Hi

In Windows 10 v1511, how do I make sure that the lock screen does not display the time?

Thanks

Preferred Solution: Avoid the time display in the lock screens

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Avoid the time display in the lock screens

This is for Windows 8: http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2...ck-screen.html

but I can't find the equivalent for Windows 10 (yet).

I just purchase a z70-80 with Windows 10, and I installed VMware WorkStation with Ubuntu running inside it. The screen lock comes up after a few minutes even though I am running development tools in the VM. I went to display settings, and in Power and sleep and modified the screen turn off and sleep to 45 minutes. But that did not resolve the issue. I would like to have the screen up indefinately. What setting do I need to adjust please? I do not know if it is a sleep mode, or the screen saver, or something else. I hope I am describing the issue with the right words.

I had to reset my Acer Aspire E 15 (Acer E5-573), Windows 10 Home, 64bit.

After some time the sound, e.g. music (played with a music player program) is turned off automatically and the amplifier plugged in in the HDMI socket of the Notebook, a Pioneer VSX-830-K, automatically switches off (generally after 15 min. without getting a signal) stays switched on, after 15 min. it switches off. When I switch on the amp the sound is available.

The screen saver causing such is turned off.

When I use the Notebook it does not happen

How could I avoid that the sound is turned off?

Ugh! I should have learned my lesson by now. Always keep a list of disabled services as you disable them! I spent a dramatic amount of time referencing 2-3 resources for each service I disabled and have had no issues up until now.

I disabled a few in a row without restarting and managed to forget which they were.

This has caused two issues which I need help resolving. If I can't/don't - the end result will be me having to reset them all to default, go through them one by one again - AND STILL not know which was the one(s) that caused my problem(s) which will risk the same thing happening again.

Without further adieu

1) I set an account picture to my Microsoft.net account for windows 8.1x64 (the one that pops up when you turn on your PC and have to enter your password right after the lock screen but before windows) and after a restart, it disappears and goes back to the default grey square with a white outline of an avatar)

2) all my installed programs disappeared on the start screen! It's literally blank. I didn't have much due to it being a fairly new install but they all disappeared including PC settings and metro store (the two metro apps I had left). I checked if the apps still worked (mumble for example because it also disappeared) and they did, but if you go under program data/start menu/programs etc, all the folders with the app shortcuts in them are gone!

I tried to reinstall mumble; and it reinstalled fine, but still NO folder w shortcut bein... Read more

Answer:Please help me avoid wasted time! (Services issue)

I rarely disable services. The great thing about Windows 8.x.x. Is that it will now decide which services need to be running or go into a standby mode if not needed.

The one that I do turn off is the BlueTooth service on those units that do not have Bluetooth adapters. Indexing is an iffy, due to it is used by File History when backing up.

Lenovo Y720 So, when I hit caps ock or num lock an on screen display tells me whether capslock or num ock has been pushed. While I appreciate it is helpful for some, in my case it become a hinderance. You need to remove "num lock" for single key print screen request, and if I have a short time frame, I am stuck without being able to screenshot until the num lock indicator goes away.  How do I turn off the on screen display.  Now, before you send me to the previously asked questions of similar nature, I have tried. There is no "display settings" in Control Panel. There is no "advanced display settings" on the settings panel. And there is no way to control it through NVIDIA or Intel graphics settings (that I can see).  Thanks kindly.

Hi, I own a T420s 4171 and have 2 external monitors hooked up to my docking station. That works fine, but when I try to also display my laptop screen (as my 3rd screen), it won't enable it. It seems to only allow 2 viewable screens (2 external monitors OR 1 external monitor + laptop screen). I tested a T420s 4173 and was able to get 3 viewable screens, but not my 4171, even after updating all of the lenovo drivers. I was comparing video card specs (4171 vs 4173) and it looks to be the same. Can someone confirm/deny that I'm able to have 3 screens with my model? Thanks.

I've been battling with XP for a couple weeks now, and I've decided to ask for 3rd party help. Here's the problem:

Symptoms: When running anything other than IE or MS Office programs, XP Blue screens after 10-15 minutes; when installing programs (especially games) XP lags, locks up, and eventually blue screens; when left running (especially if Bittorrent is running) XP Blue screens; when running Itunes (especially if my Ipod is connected) I get lag, then blue screens.

My System:
Dell Dimension 4600 (3-4 years old) with XP home edition
80 GB hard drive
Pentium 4 (2.6 GHz)
1.5 GB of RAM (512MB standard, I've just added 1 GB)
Nvidia GeForce 5200 Video Card
Soundblaster audio card (I don't know the model off the top of my head)
Logitech Wireless Desktop (mouse and keyboard)
Linksys Wireless LAN (WRT54G router, matching network cards)
Shaw Highspeed internet, Shaw Secure Extended as my firewall/antivirus (up to date definitions)
---Network - 2 PCs wireless, 1 PC wired (all running XP, my PC is one of the wireless ones)
---All Drivers up to date

What I've done: I run RegistryFix, and it helps only minimally. I've formatted twice so far, and on the second format I partitioned my system into two drives, C (windows and Drivers, 7 GB) and D (everything else, 70 GB). I've defragged C drive, and my PC Bluescreens when I defrag D drive. The blue screen states I've run out of physical memory, so I bough more RAM (the 1 GB stick) but that didn... Read more

It seems a little silly to come here for help on this, but I'm having an issue watching movies on Netflix since I got a new Windows 8 PC...

I can watch them, no problem... but after an hour or so (I've not actually timed it yet) it goes to the lockscreen because of "inactivity".

I've scoured the web and done the 'fixes' to disable the lockscreen, and to edit the delay for it to kick in, but neither option has helped. (According to the sites I've been on, disabling the lock is only for the timeout period to turn off the display when you have already locked the computer, and that is not the issue for me.

What I have done, is to enable the option to display the console lock... and I have set it to 0 minutes, hoping that 0 would mean never, since "never" is not an option... didn't work. I set it to 600 minutes, hoping for a 10 time frame, just for giggles... and it still cut off after the hour or so into a movie.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, as I am disabled, and spend a great deal of time watching movies from my bed.

Thanks, in advance, for any help. Apologies if this is in the wrong section.

Here I go again (and this is getting old) - seems the more I "learn", the more problems I have ...

Recently (past couple of days), for reasons totally unbeknownst to me, both of the PC's I "attempt" to "maintain" (or "administer" - HAH! that's a joke!) are going to a BLACK SCREEN (of death??) on occasion (so far, for no seeming rhyme or reason?) when I am switching between tabs or programs, etc. - the remedy for which has only been to IMPROPERLY SHUT-DOWN THE MACHINES (pressing/holding the power button down for four seconds).

Moving/clicking the mouse does nothing, Ctrl/Alt/Delete doesn't work - and nothing happens (as has always been the case) - when I press the "Esc" key.

Where might I start to try and diagnose THIS one please?

Thanks in advance as usual,

PS - These PC's are NOT networked, and are in two different towns approximately 150 miles apart ... and have different ISP's.

Answer:Recent BLACK (Lock-up) Screens on BOTH PC's

Without actually sitting down at the PCs, it's hard to really provide a course of action. But if 2 totally separated PCs are doing more or less the same thing, you should take a look at what you've done to each PC in recent days/weeks that is more or less the same. Did you recently install the same program(s) on each? Was there a virus infection on each? A driver update? Windows updates? New hardware? You could try a system restore on one PC to a date when you know there was no problems. If it works with one PC, try it on the 2nd....

Hi all,

I have this odd error with changing the lock screen that's been driving me mad and I really don't want to have to reinstall just because of this.

Going to PC settings shows this screen:

Note how the lock screen tile is empty. Clicking on it brings me to this:

So no lock screen image choices are being shown to me at all. I can click "Browse" and select a new image, but nothing happens. Choosing a lock screen slideshow does nothing as well.

I've tried many, many things, from resetting libraries and messing with the SystemData folder (in fact, that's the only way that I can change my lock screen, by replacing images in the SystemData folder.) Deleting the SystemData folder to try and generate a clean one doesn't work.

Any suggestions? Could anybody provide me with a clean, default version of the SystemData folder?

Hello, I received a new laptop and do as i usually do and do a clean install of windows 10 pro. Everything is running well but when i attempt to set the lock screen background image there seems to be an issue. For example the image i set for my lock screen is applied when i do a WIN-L but on restart the image is completely different.

Here is the strange part so say i select image X the WIN-L lock screen saves it as image X but the boot lockscreen is image Y. If i set an image to image Y for the lock screen the boot lock screen image goes to image Z. I personally think the callback for the selected image is not the one windows is pulling to be used as it is a different boot background every time i change it.

hi, my first post here, i have had a nightmare with my 9800XT card over the last few months, whenever i install any drivers above 4.10 Cat. it seems to give me blue screens randomly, i have updated my motherboard chipset ect.. As ATI advised me to but still im getting it. Even today while running a 3d Mark test i got a blue screen. My GFX card (In the ATI overdrive panel) says its at 70-80*C outside of a game, In the "PC health" section in the start up the CPU is 30-40*C. I mainly get the problem playing the following Games, Battlefield 2, Joint operations and Blackhawk down. i cant figure this out and thought i would post here.

Im currently using the latest ATi drivers (5.7)

Any help would be grateful.

Jonathan.

Answer:ATI 9800XT Radeon (blue screens, lock-ups, ect.)

The 9800 series cards run very hot. Your card fan may be failing. You can get a VGA Silencer for about $15. It replaces the fan and heatsink and does a great job of cooling the card. You may also need to do a clean install of Windows if you've changed the video driver alot.

I like dual monitors though I usually just dump something on my secondary and don't need to access it with a cursor for long periods of time. It's kind of a pain having the mouse constantly jump ship when you move it slightly too far on file menus and chrome tabs

I have searched some applications.
Dual Monitor Tool's "Swap Screen" keeps not working. The program Cursor lock I had trouble getting working at all and it is application based.

What do people use to lock a cursor to a monitor?

Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of locking cursor to 1 monitor, been using dual screens for years now be interesting to hear the answer to this, my suggestion, just be more patient as it really is not that bad to have cursor on other monitor, myself I have the issue of using TS and my back button going back on explorer unless I get it out of focus then no problems

Strange problem here. I have four Dell desktops set up the same way as my Dell laptops, however, the desktops all work fine but the laptops don't. I have the latest Windows 10 Anniversary Edition installed and the only way I can get it to work is by installing a basic build, with nothing kept.

If I install Windows 10 and keep the existing files, upon boot, the laptop loops between the login and lock screens ad infinitum. The only thought is that I have all but Shutdown and Restart set and all other options greyed out. Is there an easy Regedit patch available to reactivate Hibernate, Sleep, Lock, Switch user, etc?

My plan is to restore a previous Windows 10 image and reactivate all of the above options and then to upgrade to the latest Windows 10 to try and prove my theory.

Answer:Windows 10 loops between login and lock screens ad infinitum

Hi, it sounds like you may be saying that if you do a clean install on your laptops, all is fine.. (or at least if you opt not to keep existing files) "If I install Windows 10 and keep the existing files".

If so, this suggests sthg you have installed or configured is interfering.

Hibernate isn't recommended these days.

Consider this, and try powercgf -a from a command prompt:
I have two new laptops (an HP and a Gateway) with Win 7 Pro on each, and set up
exactly the same. On the Gateway, the sleep and hibernate work fine.
On the HP, the sleep and hibernate are greyed out.

Using cmd: powercfg -a
The Gateway shows " the following sleep states are available ... Standby (S3),
Hibernate Hybrid Sleep"

The HP shows "sleep states not available..system firmware does not support
standby state" "legacy driver vgasave .. prevents this standby state"

I want to browse and drag and drop using two screens. Laptop screen and desktop monitor screen.
For that I detached VGA cable of desktop monitor from CPU box and attached it to laptop. I right clicked on the laptop screen and clicked on properties. That popped up "Display Properties" screen. I clicked on "settings" tab and checked "Extend my Windows desktop onto this monitor"
Clicked on "Apply" and "Ok"
This setting allows me to drag and drop between monitor and laptop. I can browse the content of the laptop only.

Now I want to browse through the content of desktop. How can I do that ? VGA cable which is attached to CPU box stays attached to it.
Do I need separate VGA cable to attach to laptop ?
If so, how can I attach second VGA cable to monitor ? As there is slot for only one VGA cable ? Is there any splitter or switch available, so that I can use two VGA cables ?

thanks

Answer:Display using two screens

You could try using a KVM switch. What this does is it allows you to connect a monitor, mouse and keyboard to 2 (or more, depending on the switch you get) computers and change which one you are using at any given time by simply pressing a button.

For more information on KVM switches, here's a link to the Wikipedia article on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KVM_switch

If this is not what you are looking for or if you don't think it will work (I'm not sure how it'll work with a desktop and a laptop as I have only used kvm switches with desktop machines), just say so and either myself or someone else here will help you as best as I, or they, can.

Hi,I have another problem aswell as the previous one!I have been able to set my PB K5285 (NVidea) to use a double screen set up to veiw on my Phillips LCD at the same time. That was easy doing it through controlpanel/display/settings/advance. At the same time with the LCD I was unable to do this with our Fujitsu Amilo D7820 using ATI Radeon 9000. When the additional monitor using the above settings was checked, it was said to be not available because it wouldn't support DDC.It seems, after checking that Radeon 9000 will support DDC so how can I get around this?If this is not able to be done, can I use the LCD as the default screen and not use the original fujitsu screen at all? How could this be acheived if it is possible?Richard.

Hey, I hope everyone is doing well. My problem is when im entering the welcome screen where you choose the user, whether it be logging off or just starting it up, i have to wait way too long for it to load. The screen will just appear black and I'll hear the cpu every once in awhile. Its a recently new computer and it has no other problems besides that, does anyone know what is causing this or/and how i can fix this?

I appreciate any help.

Answer:SLOW loading time between welcome screens

Have you been on the internet? You could be infected with:
Viruses
Spyware
malware
Adware

Also try running a defrag, clear up your desktop, uninstall program/games you haveing used in a long time, if you running XP turn down the overall detail and look of windows, Clean up your temp, chache, cookies ect and empty out your recycle bin.

This should speed up your system overall. It should at least speed up the start up.

I'm not terribly familiar with troubleshooting for computers. I've used them for years but haven't had any real issues until this new laptop.

I got a BSOD for the 2nd time stating Driver power state failure. I tried updating windows since I thought that was the problem but apparently not.

The BSOD said to check for any improper new installations (that could be anything really since this computer is relatively new) And also to disable bios memery options such as caching and shadowing (huh?)

It could be related to the antivirus avast but I don't know since it could be anything

So I'm a little stuck...any help would be appreciated

Hello,

Satellite A100-192 PSAA9 with ATI X1600 video card.

Despite the fact that I have installed the most recent driver from the Toshiba support site, display darkens (turns off) from time to time with no apparent reason.

I turn off the computer by pushing the on button for several seconds.

When I turn the computer on, the display is still dark although computer boots.

Only after I take the computer battery off and on again and then turn the computer on, the display is OK.

I haven't been able to find out whether it's a hardware or software issue.

Computer is one and a half years old.

I wanted to find out whether anybody has had such an experience before I take the computer to the service center.

Ok, this is the deal-e-o. I just purchased a new 24" Asus monitor and currently have it hooked up to my aging M1710. I have the Asus set as the primary monitor and is extended to the laptop display, no problems here. Now to my point...Is it possible to have a game running on the 24" and still have access to internet, music, etc on the laptop screen. I had a browser window up on the laptop and attempted to load wow on the 24". The laptop's resolution changed, and i could not interact with the browser, even though i could see it.

Answer:Extending Display Across Two Screens

You have to run the game in Windowed mode to be able to do anything on the other monitor. Just alt-tab out of the game and go about your business.

Not sure about the resolution change.. What is the resolution of the laptop monitor? I haven't ran two monitors with different resolutions in quite some time, so I can't tell you much there if that's the case. And is WoW running at the 24" native res?

Just a question. I don't notice anything wrong with mine (2x 1920x1080) running StarCraft on one. It stays at it's native res (the second monitor. The first goes down to whatever starcraft is running at... 640x480?)

Hello everyone. This is my first post here, and I really hope you guys have a solution for this. I've been spending an entire day, testing a bunch of different methods on the internet.

It all started with my computer launching up, but not being able to show my monitor through DVI (the white cable) I tested with the HDMI access that goes straight to the motherboard, and that worked. I realized I wanted to fix it anyways, so I decided to follow a simple guide on the internet about how to reset your BIOS. (After I did this, I wasn't able to use the HDMI on a television either) and now I was getting a two small beep after the one normal beep on launch.

I then tried refreshing all my ram, by placing them differently + tried with a single ram one at a time too. In the end, I even tried to unplugging my video card more than once, but that didn't work either.
What could the issue be? I'm very confused.

Answer:Suddenly no display on any screens

Another important thing to say is that I just now tried to reset the BIOS again. It actually stopped the beeping noises, but there's still no view or light in keyboard or mouse now. (So that is most likely a failure launch?)

Hi everyone. This is probably a simple issue. I have just bought an ASUS computer running Windows 8.1. My old computer (Windows 7), would detect when I plug in a new screen (e.g. connecting my laptop to my desktop screen) and automatically change the screen settings for that screen. Now I find I have to re-start every time I plug in a new screen for the display settings to work. Then re-start again when I go back to using the laptop screen.

Wondered if anyone could advise what I'm doing wrong.

I'm not sure how I got a virus, as I usually have pretty good internet habits, but I think I must have one. Whenever I try to shut down my computer, it will Blue Screen right before it turns off, and sometimes if it is idling, it will also Blue Screen. Also, my date and time has recently changed to sometime back in 2008 and Firefox will not respond properly, siting this as a problem. Chrome, however, still seems to work fine. Whenever I try to change it, I am told that either I don't have the administrative privileges to change or, or it won't respond at all.ANy Ideas what this virus is, and what I should do? I have AVG, but it doesn't seem to be helping/

Hi there, I'd be very grateful if a pro could give me a hand in diagnosing the problem I've been having with my pc. Details to follow:

Ran beautifully since build, but about a month ago I was playing a game (League of Legends) with some friends, when it crashed to a black screen. Upon restarting and rejoining the game, it happened again after a few minutes. Then after this happening once more, it crashed even when I had just been on the desktop for a minute. I proceeded to go to sleep to deal with it the next day.

Since then this problem has been somewhat intermittent - Many days it would be fine all day (even playing games), but if it started crashing, it would proceed to be crash-prone for the rest of the day.

Because it is a black screen crash, there is no BSOD with any information, and 99% of the time there appears to be no dump for the crash, and eventviewer doesn't have anything in it other than the 'kernal power' unexpected shutdown message.

My windows is always up to date, I've updated gfx drivers, bios, even other stuff like my SATA controllers. No improvement. I've monitored temperates on my gfx card, cpu, northbridge, everything seems fine (even under ... Read more

Answer:Black Screens, having a hard time diagnosing

Just wanted to upload more info as directed in the BSOD posting instructions thread. Ran the two tools (autoruns etc) and am attaching the files. Note that autoruns stopped responding a few seconds after running and windows prompted me to close it, which I did after waiting a short while. As a result, I'm not sure if the information collection was complete.

Hello,

I have problem with my laptop.
From time to time the display dimmed for a few seconds and restore again.
It does not matter laptop runs on batterie or is plugged.

Can somebody give me an advise?

Answer:Satellite R630-144: From time to time display dimmed for a few seconds

Hi

Theoretically it could be only a software issue; for example display driver starts to do some strange things? in such case I would recommend updating or reinstalling the display driver to check if this could helps?

But it could be also an hardware problem; FL-inverter
FL inverter is a small part which controls the backlight so theoretically it could be also an FL inverter malfunction? but this is just my guess
This should be checked by an technician to get more info.

Hi, I was wondering if I could get some help with this:

I just built a new computer and it's been running decently up until I tried playing some video games on it. When running games (e.g., World of Warcraft), my screen freezes up for one second, followed by a black screen for a few more seconds. After that, the gameplay resumes, but I'm sitting there wondering what just happened. The sound is still intact the entire time.

Sometimes it occurs frequently, and sometimes I can play for an hour or more at a time without any black screens. I've been trying to figure out what has been triggering it (i.e., exploring new territory in-game, etc.), but haven't found anything conclusive.

I have a feeling it has to do with my video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 460 v2), but I'm not sure.

I checked for overheating problems with CoreTemp, but found that the temperature was stable during gameplay. Specifically, right after the crashes I would check the temperature and see that it was average and unwavering.

Hope to hear from you soon, thanks!

Answer:Periodic black screens, persists for 3-5 seconds at a time

The first thing I would do is update the video card drivers. I suggest that you get them from World Leader in Visual Computing Technologies | NVIDIA. Hope it fixes your problem.

I have a dell xps M1530.
After fiddling with a bunch of settings to get protools 7.3 (an XP program) to work in compatability mode, it wouldnt work after installing and uninstalling it a few times so i bought the new vista compatible version but when i went to uninstall it it wouldnt let me.
I then turned off DEP with setup>performance>dep but it didnt work so i disabled it in command prompt but it still wouldnt let me uninstall it.
Then after i turned it off the next time i turned it on it wouldnt start. Every time i try to start it it loads up to the start of the windows load screen where the green bars usually go across the box, but after loading the box and the windows logo it blue screens and goes back to the initial loading screen.
Every time i run startup repair it says there is no problem, then restarts and does it all again.
Every time i run system restore i run it back before i tried installing protools at all, and it says its successful but then the same blue screen happens at the same time. When i run system restore it only lets me run it on the OS: (system) drive and the other drives are able to be highlighted but i cant tick the boxes.
Any ideas? thankyou!

Answer:system blue screens every time windows tries to load

Will it boot into safe mode immediately after you run a repair?

hi i've had a slew of problems with my new computer

-i get blue screened and it says a warning message that isn't the same from the previous windows, you know hwo it normally said your system has become unstable and what not. this message says that there was an error and windows is shutting itself down to prevent further damage

-i get black screened(iduno if thats the term) but what happens is i'll be working on some files and then out of nowhere my monitor goes black, the computer and monitor stay on, but the monitor goes into some sort of standby mode thing where the power light flashes

-i also ocassionally have trouble rebooting one of my other computers and whenever it gives me a problem the screen goes black and there's a green line that goes across the top of the monitor

iv'e tried spy ware removing programs/anti viruses/fire walls none of them seem to be working

any help would be greatly apprecieated

Answer:Solved: blue screens black screens green screens

The issues sound a bit like a hardware failure, the blue STOP screen could be hardware or software.

The Black screen sounds like the PC has died, but the power supply continues to run. This could well be hardware.

Both issues could be something like overheating of the CPU (are all fans running, is the CPU fan dust clogged - shouldnt be if it's "new")?

If it's "new" and under warranty, take it back.

It would have helped to know if it was a desktop or laptop though.

Hello,

I have a Gateway 22" LCD display that is less than a month old.

Recently, I have noticed that when I turn on the display it takes about 40-50 seconds until it displays the picture, whereas it used to display the picture almost instantly when I turned on the display. Once the display is on, the monitor seems to function just fine.

I can't recall making any sort of changes that would effect this sort of issue, so I am wondering if anyone in here has had a similar experience, or can offer up any sort of advice on how to go about fixing this?

Thanks!!!

Question: Lock DOWN time...

have 40 to 50 systems running 2K prof. I'd like to lock them out from being able to surf the net. I figure it can be done several different ways. I'm new with this company, and am just now learning their enviroment.

There are 3 different locations. Each site, has it's own 2K small biz server running.

They have no group policies in effect as well.

Where would you begin, or what would be the easiest solution, all the while providing some scaleability?

Thanks for the help

Help,

SP is my OS

About a week ago my computer slowed down in every way.
1. During bootup the computer started taking really long for the desktop icons to go from the generic microsoft icon to the proper icon image. So boot up time tripled.
2. Mouse clicks got super slow, normal to 8 plus seconds, depending on its mood.
3. Somehow Adobe Flash will not work. Tried to install an upgrade and the computer says I have a more advanced version already installed, but You Tube says I need an Adobe Flash Player upgrade installed.
4. While trying to burn a DVD twice my computer locked up with a White screen once and a green screen the second time.
5. for months now MBAM is always opening  and trying to run a scan (5-10 time a day).
6. for months the AVG is always telling me to reboot my computer.

My computer is slow in almost every way no matter what you do on it. Today i booted up and it is moving fast enough for me t get off this message to you

BTW One other thing I had a desk top that did the same thing a year ago. In my current desktop it needed a power supply. So I took the one out of my old desktop and installed it in this computer. After 8 months this computer is starting to act similar to the broken desktop. Could a faulty Power Supply cause issues with the computer. Just had to ask.

Thanks,
yarlac

Dear all

I am running Bloomberg and need the picture to extend on to two 24" full HD LCD screens. Including the integrated screen of my current laptop, I use three panels at once. Can I do that with the Z30 1 CZ? Will I have to buy a docking station for that?

At the moment I am using an ultrabook from a different manufacturer but I am not satisfied for reasons that have nothing to do with the display. Currently I use a docking station where one screen connects by DVI and the other by VGA cable.

With the Z30, can I just use the VGA and the HDMI ports of the laptop to get the same solution?
Best wishes,
Peter

Answer:Portege Z30 - need to extend display to two external screens

From my knowledge the display out ?feature? depends on the graphic card/chip.

Usually you can use either the VGA or HDMI output.
VGA (RGB) port provides analogue signal, HDMI provides digital signal and as far as I know you cannot use both at the same time?

However, you could purchase an "usb hdmi adapter? adapter which would allow you to use two external monitors simultaneously.

Whether it's a window on my desktop that pops up, such as one tellling me it's not good to keep the battery fully charged, or a browser program, certain windows are very very tiny and I don't know why and it makes it hard to use. I upgraded to Windows 10, so not sure if that's an issue or if it's a Yoga 2 Pro issue, as this is a relatively new computer for me. Any ideas/advice would be greatly appreciated. Here's an example. .

Answer:Teeny-tiny display on some screens on Yoga 2 Pro

I've had this problem since getting this laptop about 18m ago - never did get to the bottom of it so would be interested to hear others' views.  Its not Windows 10 though, as when I first got mine it was on 8.1 which was the same.  I think its something to do with the high resolution of the laptop, but technology on other sites etc. hasnt caught up yet?

Hi, I'm planning to buy a Probook 650 G2 or a 640 G2, in combination with a standard 90W docking station. I plan on using 3 displays: 2 external (hooked up via vga/dvi) and the internal laptop display. Can these 3 screens be used simultaneously? In the past, the Intel graphic card only allowed to use 2 displays. The new Intel DH 520 chipset should allow 3 screens. Can anyone confirm please?

Answer:Possible to use 2 external screens and laptop display simult...

Unfortunately it isn't really about the chipset. It can be done via the operating system. You may be able to use two external display devices fomr the ports on the notebook, depending on the configuration you have selected to have it delivered with. You can use a docking station in order to use two external displays with your notebook.  See the following examplehttp://store.hp.com/us/en/pdp/z---categories-for-promotions/kensington-usb-30-docking-station-with-d...

Not sure how to do 2 displays with 2 graphics cards as I have a 24" monitor which I want the desktop to always to be displayed on - Display 1 then Display 2 will be the main program / game screen which is the 60" plasma.

I will be using 2 X Ge-force GT730's for the test setup which can not be SLi'd

Is this a simple thing to setup or not possible, my spec is on my profile page but performance should be identicle should it ????

Answer:Usin 2 Graphics Cards For 2 Screens - Display 1 & 2

In the course of my fixing computers I don't usually work with people who need 2 monitors but the 1 I have to is using a single video card with the VGA and DVI ports and plugs into both, one monitor uses a DVI to VGA adapter, seems to work fine. Gaming would be a different thing but without SLi one might be better off with something like this:
XFX Radeon R7 360 DirectX 12 R7-360P-2SF5 2GB 128-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 CrossFireX Support Plug-in Card Core Edition Video Card - Newegg.com

My x200-219 was less than a year old when it started playing up.
It went to Toshiba's authorised repair centre under warranty, unfortunately, these guys were not able to repair it so it had to go back to Toshiba direct.

The problem I had was with the video cards, and apparently they both needed replacing as they had 'burnt out' although I was unable to get a technical report from Toshiba about what the actual problem was.

I now have my laptop back, but with a difference.
In my display properties, I used to have the main screen and a second screen I could extend my monitor to (I run in non-sli as its a feature I need).
Since my laptop has come back, in my display options i now have screen 1, 2 AND a 3rd screen!

Where has this come from? What is it for?

All my drivers were up to date from the the Toshiba website before it went away, so I can't understand what they've done to my laptop to give this extra screen output?

Does anyone know?

Gary

Answer:Satellite X200-219: 3 screens in the display options

I have uploaded a picture of my display settings to show what I mean by a 'third' monitor.

Note the main monitor and the 2nd which were there initially, and the third which appeared after Toshiba's repair.

Do you mean the the boot process is not being shown on the external screen, that nothing shows on the external screens or something else? If it's regarding booting you will need to set the external screen as boot display device in bios. ok. so i bought a new computer from my local retailer and got it home and was happy as a clown. i then decided to put vista ultimate on it, so i did so, worked great for a day or so, then it blue screened with an error i was unable to memorize, (ill search through my logs and try and find them all) its a brand new quad core computer that has a "made for vista" logo. i discovered that it does it when the system is under high disk or memory access usage. so, to see if i was right, i ran a burn-in-test, and it did throw errors in memory verification and video memory (but did not blue screen during the test) MSI board, 500GB HD intel q8200 onboard nVidia Graphics 4gb ram. i googled the errors (when i remembered them, i have a terrible memory) and a lot of them pointed to somthing with either drivers or memory, so yea. any ideas of what to do whould be greatly appriciated. i might try just reinstalling, but pleae let me know. thanks!!

Answer:New Computer Vista Ultimate Blue Screens often, but different error each time!

Have you run a memory diagnostic? If not, leave Memtest running for several hours, preferably overnight, to see if the RAM is corrupt. If it is corrupt, call the maker of your PC and have them RMA some new RAM to you. If your RAM is corrupt, or if there is a hardware fault, reinstalling Vista will not solve your problem.

What I thought was a hardware problem I'm beginning to think might be some kind of virus. After being on windows from anywhere from a minute to about 40 minutes, my entire screen will turn to gray very suddenly and I have to force a restart. Usually when I restart my computer will not turn on again at first. I'm running a Toshiba l305d laptop.

Answer:X230 Memory Test Fail (blue screens all the time)

I'd try Windows 7 Memory Diagnostic as well (press F8 during Windows boot) but it is almost clear that your RAM module or memory controller is broken and needs a repair.

Is there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? I followed some instructions that I found on the internet that involve adding ".bak" or ".backup" to the lock screen file in "SystemApps" but it didn't have any effect. Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.

Hello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.

What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?

Thanks

Answer:AM/PM For The Time At The Lock Screen

You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.

To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:

Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:

h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:

Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Is there a BIOS update that allows me to select "BOTH" as an option for the Power On Display?
Currently it only lists Auto-Select and Internal.

Auto-Select only outputs to the external screen if one is connected.
I need to set the default as output on both screens.

Older Toshibas do this. In fact, every other Toshiba I've used has this feature.
As a presentation/hire/conference laptop, this is an important feature.

And yes, I've updated the BIOS to the latest version.

Thanks

Hi dronz

Welcome to Tech Support Guy Forums!

Right click on the
Taskbar > Properties > General tab
and place a check mark in: Hide inactive icons Click Customize
Locate: Local Area Connection
Look to see if it is set to Always Hide, and change it to Always Show or Hide when inactive.

I keep the Always Hide box unchecked, it annoys me when Icons suddenly leave.

Which updates did you download?

I have an unusual display problem that i need help with. I have a Lenovo G560 with an Intel HD gpu. It worked fine for a few months and now I'm having display problems. When I turn on my G560 the screen is divided into 4 sections and each section has the same image. I checked my display settings and the frequency is set to 60Hz and color depth is 32 bits. The only thing that has changed is my screen resolution is now 800 x 600. I tried downloading and reinstalling the latest Intel HD graphics drivers but the problem persists. I read online that this might be due to a physical problem with the gpu's connection with the motherboard but I'm not sure if this is true. I need help from a Lenovo expert on how to get this issue resolved. Thanks.

Answer:Lenovo G560 display problem - multiple screens

A few years later.....i just had this same problem with my Lenovo 560, 7/12/2015. I just cleaned out the underside and I noticed that the connection to the display was loose. Cleaned it up and reconnected, and it fixed my display. It was located next to the power plug for the cooling fan. Hope this helps anyone else that has the same issue.

My X1 Carbon, with Windows 7, works just fine with my work/home monitors. I use Display Port to VGA at home, Dsiplay Port to DVI at work. But on two consecutive weeks I've gotten up to do a presentation and connected using a Display Port to VGA connection to a conference projection system and the X1 Carbon was undetected. I changed the screen resolution. I pressed F7 and tried Duplicate and Projector Only. Did not work. I rebooted. Did not work. If it was just one conference that would be understandable. In both cases on exactly the same VGA cable a Mac worked and a PC worked. But because my computer has special fonts etc the presentation looked bad. I've done Google searches etc to identify if there is anything at all I can do to figure out what's up. I've run Lenovo System Update. But sitll no positive outcome. Do you have a pointer for me as to how to fix the issue? Thank you.

Answer:X1 Carbon external display problem. X1 to projection screens.

Yup, Just happened to me too on my brand new Yoga 2 Pro, with micro-hdmi connection .  It is really frustrating and embarrasing to fumble a presentation because your computer won't talk to your projector.  A solution would be much appreciated!
