Time format incorrect on lock screen after restart

Question: Time format incorrect on lock screen after restart

I sign in with my MS account (administrator) and after signing in and using win+l the time format is correct hh:mm (24hr) but after each restart the time format reverts to h:m (12hr). This after successfully upgrading from 8.1 pro 64bit to 10. What am I missing? Thanks

Preferred Solution: Time format incorrect on lock screen after restart

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

For the past week or so my computer has been starting up showing the time as 23.03 and the date as 31st December 2002. I have corrected time and date - connected to "Automatically synchronize with Internet Time Server" - had confirmation that time and date successfully synchronized - next time computer switched on time and date setting reverted to 23.04 on 31st December 2002.

Normally, when computer is switched on a 'DOS' type screen appears for a second or so - then it scrolls through various Microsoft Windows XP - loading your personal settings, etc. When it opens up with an incorrect time and date I get a different 'DOS' type screen - at the bottom of which are the options:

F1 to continue - DEL to enter SETUP

F1 continues to the normal start up routine - DEL opens up another 'DOS' screen - and on this screen pressing F10 offers the choice to exit and save - Y for yes N for no

Have tried saving this screen when correct time and date displayed - reverts to incorrect time and date next time machine switched on.

I would appreciate any help and guidance that I can get.

Hi, I'm a new user posting here, but I've been using 7formus for a lot of time. The guides are just amazing. I installed Windows 10 yesterday and used a lot of registry hacks already.

I'm having a little problem with the new lock screen, and maybe you guys can figure it out.

I'm from Argentina, I use Windows in English but I choose Spanish (Argentina) in region and format in control panel.

What I can't figure out is how to get the day of the week and month with the first letter uppercase, here's a couple screens to show what happens when I choose English vs. Spanish

Spanish format, notice how the date on the lock screen looks just bad

And in English looks much better

Is there any way to make it uppercase in Spanish?

Thanks for any help

Hi,

I'm having a weird issue.

Every time I Restart my Laptop, the Lock Screen does not show the Welcome Screen and skips directly to the User Account login screen. Actually, it shows a darkish blue screen for a couple of seconds and then jumps to the user account login.

When I use the logout function or the shutdown (and I power it back on) everything works normally.

I have ran SFC / Scannow in windows (8.1 by the way).

Any suggestion ?

Thanks.

Answer:Welcome Screen (Lock Screen Pic) not showing on Restart

I may have misunderstood what you are asking but does this tutorial help?

In Windows 8 and 8.1 there are two "Lock" screens.
The user lock screen is the one that displays when a user locks the PC while still signed in to Windows, and when the user is selected on the sign in screen, times out, and returns to the lock screen. Each user is able to change their lock screen background image to an image of their choice. The default Lock screen image is the one that displays when there are no users currently signed in to Windows or selected on the sign in screen.

I want my lock screen's date format to be abbreviated day, day number, then year. Can this be done? I know about the Registry LocaleInfo's TimeFormat key that controls the time format, but it doesn't seem to affect my Lock screen at all. I'd also like to see AM | PM in the time. It never shows, even though my key has h:mm:ss tt, with neither seconds nor AM | PM appearing.

What about the date? I'd like the date to show as, for example, "Sat. 16 May, 2015," and a long-name month as, e.g., "Fri., 25 Sep., 2015."

Answer:How to customize lock-screen date format?

Swipe down on the right side of your screen, or go to "Search" from the Start Menu. Search for "PC Settings" and choose the purple and white gear icon. On the left side look for "Time and Language." Click that and then make sure from there "Date and Time" is selected on the left. On the right side, at the bottom, select "Change date and time formats"
The lockscreen is not very customizable, but you should be able to get the date changed from there.

The title says it all, almost...

I'm able to see a 24-hour time format on the user-based Lock Screen for Windows 8.1x64 on my personal laptop, but upon logging out of my account, the lock screen returns to a 12-hour time format for the system default lock screen. I have tried every option that I know of, from RegEdit to Lock Screen Customizer from WinAero.

If I need to upload screenshots, then I may have a problem, as I don't know that there is a way to upload a screenshot from the Default Lock Screen...

Any and all help is appreciated, thanks.

Just for the record, the phone is less than a year old Nokia Lumia 920. It was bought new on the Black update, never even lagged until the Cyan update. It occasionally froze and the app Spotify brought it out more than anything else. Today, the phone screen froze mid-scrolling and wouldn't react to anything. I finally flicked the screen off button and the screen went black, for a second. The place where it's supposed to show the time on the screen was replaced with a one big static rectangle. Needless to say I panicked. Flicked the screen on again and discovered the whole thing is on static now. After a few close-to-heart-attack moments, I did a soft reset on the phone and once it booted up, it showed 2 AM in the morning, 22nd of May, 2014 ( while it was 1.52 PM 28th of September, 2014).
I just really need advice if i can blame this on the Cyan update or is my precious little one broken?

Answer:Nokia Lumia 920 lagging after CYAN update, static screen and incorrect time

Backup everything, then download Nokia Software Recovery Tool and restore the latest rom (cyan) from ground up. This should solve your problems.
You can also first try a softreset, if you would be very lucky that would solve your issues.

Anyone know how to make the sign-in background appear on restart / boot up with Lock Screen disabled?

I had a custom background for sign-in background. It works whenever i locked my screen (after login). However, when i restart or boot up, it will show a blank (solid blue) sign-in background. I had disabled Lock Screen with the "NoLockScreen" registry since i do not want the lock screen. However, i do want it to be displayed as sign-in background before login from a restart.

Nobody tried to achieve that?

Is there any way to keep the lock screen from shutting me down if I don't do anything on the keyboard for a minute or 2 minutes, or whatever it is? I followed some instructions that I found on the internet that involve adding ".bak" or ".backup" to the lock screen file in "SystemApps" but it didn't have any effect. Then I clicked on "Settings" in the Start menu and got totally lost in all that stuff.

Hello, I like seeing AM/PM on any time value. I already know if it's AM or PM, but it looks more Proper to see the AM or the PM with whatever time it is.

What Registry modification/Program can help me achieve this?

Thanks

Answer:AM/PM For The Time At The Lock Screen

You can change the time format, how time is shown on Windows notification area freely but AM / PM is regardless of your settings never shown in Windows Clock and lock screen if 24 hour clock has been selected.

To change how time is shown on Windows desktop, select Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Region, click Additional settings:

Now change time formats manually typing any of the following values for short time. Add :ss for long time for seconds:

h:mm
12 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

h:mm tt
12 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

hh:mm
12 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

hh:mm tt
12 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

H:mm
24 hour clock, no leading zero, no AM / PM

H:mm tt
24 hour clock, no leading zero, with AM / PM

HH:mm
24 hour clock, with leading zero, no AM / PM

HH:mm tt
24 hour clock, with leading zero, with AM / PM

Here I have selected 24 hour clock with AM / PM, but it's only shown in notification area. Opening clock does not show AM / PM, nor does lock screen, whatever settings I have chosen as long as I am using 24 hour clock:

Using 12 hour clock AM / PM is always shown in Clock and lock screen if selected.

Hello, I used to use a reg file for Windows 8.1 to customize the time until the screen turns off during the Lock Screen Time Out. I want to know if that command still applies for Windows 10.

The reg file command is:
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Lock Screen]
"SlideshowDuration"=dword:000493e0
(where the screen turns off after 5 minutes).

I have the formula to figure out what you need to calculate to insert after "dword" for the amount of time until the screen times out (goes black). Ask me for the formula... as long as the above works.

Thanks

Never mind. I went into the Registry and checked it out.

So, I have searched the internet for what I am trying to find but the only thing that comes up is how to add a timer that will turn the display off after a certain time WHILE the lock-screen is on. That's not what I am asking.

What I am asking is if there is a way to auto-lock the computer after a certain amount of time. I know you can activate a screensaver after a certain amount of time, and then once touched again it will show up at the lockscreen. That's not what I want. I have the lock-screen setup to play a slideshow of pictures that I want to play when not in use. (This is a 58" touchscreen display that is used to interact with a powerpoint presentation in a public area). If I leave the desktop screensaver option on, it'll turn off the lockscreen slides. Why does that matter if the slideshow is running you may be asking? Well, I have a script on the desktop of this computer that will lock the computer with a single click. This is because when someone is done doing a presentation, I want them to be able to lock the screen immediately so that when they walk away someone can't just walk by and start messing with a wide-open computer.

So, idk if this is possible or if someone has a better solution but i'd appreciate any input.

I frequently am logging in and out of my Windows 8.1 laptop. I have a good, secure password that I use and because I'm human, sometimes I mistype it. The issue is that on these occasions, I am locked out for a good 30 seconds from attempting to
login, even for the second time.

I can understand the time delay if it were say, my 5th or 6th attempt, but for one attempt this is entirely too long. How do I go about significantly reducing this, or ideally removing it?

Thank you very much!

Hi,

apologies if this has been covered before somewhere else.
I am trying to remove the time and date from the lock screen. having searched I have seen several customisation options but the only one that actually covered this specifically was to make a change in regedit:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\SystemProtectedUserData\S-1-5-21-x-x-x-x\AnyoneRead\LocaleInfo

this brought about issues relating to administrator accounts which seem to be a common problem with windows 8.1.
nearly all of the solutions were not available to me but I finally found I could make the change in regedit by changing ownership of the file and changing the format of the time to a space. unfortunately the date is still showing.
how can I remove the date?

further, just to clarify, does the original account I signed in with have full administrator privileges? are they disabled and need to be enabled?
ive seen the tutorial on the built in elevated administrator account, this didn't work on its own either. do some files require a change of ownership to be altered regardless of which account you are signed in with including the administrator account?

any help appreciated

thanks

Hello,
First I want to point out that the "Play a slide show on the lock screen" is not the option that I'm looking for, since it remembers the original image that was set for the lock screen after I log back in, or restart the computer.

I am looking for an option that will always load a random picture from a certain folder to appear as my lock screen, every time the lock screen appears.
So for example, I turn on the computer and I see Image #1. I log into my account and after a few minutes I lock the computer. When I lock the computer, I want to see Image #7 as the lock screen. Now I restart the computer. Windows shuts down and starts up again. I am now at the lock screen again. I want to see Image #4. (The reason why those image numbers are like that is because they're random).

So does anyone know of an option in Windows that can do that, or a 3rd party program that can do that?

Thanks so much

The whole thing started to appear around 3 days ago. The problem is that everytime I boot, windows 10 stays on a weird lock screen without any buttons for a long long time. There are just 4 icons in the bottom right corner (shut down, accesibility, ethernet...) It sometimes manages to get to desktop, and sometimes not. Not sure what caused it, could be a recent windows update, not sure tho. I ran some HDD scans and everything turned out fine, also did a registry cleanup, tried disabling lock screen, and nothing seems to work. Any suggestions or solutions?

Answer:Windows 10 stuck at lock screen for a long time

Welcome to the TenForums @Taukonza

Could you please review your update history and see if any updates for Windows or Drivers were installed in last week?

You mentioned when you boot. Not sure if this is happening on restart or power on or both. If it is power on booting can I suggest a quick test. Open a command prompt (admin) and type

powercfg -h off

This will disable hibernation and in turn Fast Startup. Test. If no change you can re-enable by typing

powercfg -h on

After you boot have you reviewed your Event Viewer to see if Windows is kicking out any serious errors to the system log?

Ok, so on the weekend my computer decided to shut itself down and restart after a blue screen flashed in front of me. It was so fast I didn't have time to read anything. So, I let it do the "disk check" for consistency or whatever it was doing....but it's happened 6 times since then. I read another post about a similar thing happening to another poster and followed the instructions to post a "minidump check". So I'm going to do it here because it looks like we're probably having a different problem. My fan seems to be working fine....no problems with the monitor, etc.

Here's my dump check (see attached). I'm really nervous because I have a home business and can't afford to lose all my info! I've gone out and purchased an external harddrive with a USB to do a backup!!

Hey guys, I have been having a pretty major dilemma with my computer. So basically:
A few days ago (January 11, 2018), I downloaded the new windows update (forget the name every time ). It was initially working out quite well. Fast forward to like four o' clock, when I leave home for a few hours. I then come back to my computer, awakening it from its sleep, and then the lock screen is utterly broken. It appears as a white screen with red and green (maybe blue too???) lines running to and fro. My cursor as well appeared as a jumbled mess of black pixels. I have been dealing with this dilemma for the past few days (today is January 16 2018 at time of writing), and I have had no luck searching for help. If you have any knowledge of what is happening, or can offer help, then please offer it, that will be wonderful.
EDIT: Oh, forgot to include this, but I have tried a malwarebytes scan (probably at January 12, 2018), but it did not come up with anything important.

Hi,

You'll find that the messages are controlled by a piece of software that came pre-installed on your machine when you bought it. Try looking for a Hotkey managing app to see if the notifications can be disabled.

Sometime in the past couple of weeks, Windows 10 (1511, build 10586.679) has begun to show the incorrect time after restart or when waking from sleep. It's as if the computer thinks that no time has passed since I shut it down; it just starts/wakes up at the same time and goes from there. This is on a laptop, and it's always plugged in, so I'm assuming that means that the on-board battery can't be the problem? [EDIT] Never mind, I found a newer CR2032 cell in a drawer, put it in the computer, and it seems like the problem is solved. [/EDIT]

i had linux on my old pc (a dell dimension 8100) i have just taken the hdd which had linux on it out and set it as a slave in my current pc.

vista installed the drivers for it but when i go to my com0puter and try to format it i get a message saying "windows could not start format" and when i right click on it in my computer it says "size 0 bytes".

any suggestions? im prob gonna format it with my ubuntu live C.D just to see if that works, my vista OEM cd cant format it either.

Answer:cant format hdd and incorrect parameters

I agree with using the ubuntu disc. I would also suggest that you try deleting the partition and creating a new partition, then reformatting.

Since after installing Fall Creators update I am facing a very weird issue for which I don't seem to find any solution anywhere. Whenever I restart/reboot my PC, the first screen that shows up even before the logon screen is:"The user name or password is incorrect"How can that be, when I have not even had a chance to enter any user name or password. After clicking OK on the infamous message, then I will have the logon screen where I can enter my credentials (user name & password). After that, everything will go smooth. The problem is nerve-racking, frustrating, freaking aggravating. I even changed my password but to no avail. I also ran a repair install with no luck either. Two temporary solutions I found didn't appeal well to me:- netplwiz settings: Untick Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer (I don't want to leave my computer unprotected)- Enter the following command in Run box: shutdown /r /t 0 (I don't want to do that every time I am restarting my PC).I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue after installing Fall Creators Update. It seems that this problem is not new and has been around since Vista & Win 7 especially after an upgrade.

Answer:User name or password is incorrect message upon restart after FCU

This isn't a new problem - it has happened to me since Windows 7 at least (now and again).

Try toggling netplwiz on and off a few times restarting in-between - it often resets it.

Why are some of my dates changing (the month and day are swapping places) when I have a pdf file and do a file - save as - spreadsheet - Microsoft Excel Workbook???Some of the dates convert correctly, but some of them are not. Such as...9-11-2014 will show up as 11-9-2014...

Answer:Date format incorrect when I convert from pdf to excel

Since I don't have the ability to save pdf's as Excel spreadsheets I can't test the proces. The best I can do is speculate.I also don't know by your examples what format your examples are in. You say the month and day are swapping places, but I don't know if the original (9-11-2014) is supposed to be mm-dd-yyyy or dd-mm-yyyy since 9 and 11 could be either a month or a day. It would be interesting to see what would happen if the dates in the pdf were 11-22-2014 or 22-11-2014, depending on which format they are using in the pdf.In any case...For the dates that are changing to a different format, it is possible that your system is converting them to correspond with the format set within your regional settings. Excel may be assuming that e.g. 9-11-2014 is mm-dd-yyyy but your regional setting is dd-mm-yyyy so Excel converts it for you. It's just trying to be nice. ;-)For the dates that are not changing, it is possible that Excel is not actually seeing them as dates but rather as text. It is a well known annoyance within Excel that dates imported from "outside sources" (web pages, databases, etc.) are not always seen as dates by Excel. Changing the cell format to one of the date formats doesn't help, since Excel doesn't consider the contents to be a date. If Excel is not seeing some of the "dates" as dates, then it won't convert them to match your regional settings.Sorry, but that's the best I can offer at this point.Click Here Before Posting Data or VBA Code ---> How To Post Data ... after transferring files from Samsung R530, 32-bit machine to HP Pavilion dv7, i5, 64-bit, using Windows Easy Transfer (both machines running Windows 7) via Belkin F5U279ea cable, all seemed normal

on restart, entered password recently created and used successfully, whereupon received 'incorrect password' message and am now locked out
what can I do?

since it is new there are no data to be preserved, so happy to go back to how it was before I made the transfer, but would need to know to do this

would also like to know what might have happened in the transfer process to nullify my password

any help gratefully accepted

Answer:Incorrect Password, on restart after using Windows Easy Transfer

I have always understood the Easy Transfer was meant to transfer your personal files and settings to a new computer. I don't think it would change your password, but I have never actually tried it.

Are you using the same user name and the same password as the original?

Why does your title say you are getting a Blue Screen? Did the Windows 7 install go OK, or did the system come with Windows 7 installed?

I know this has been posted about before, but I'm confused again.
After British Summer Time kicked in on Sunday, Windows say it went forward 1 hour, but it didn't.
If I sync the time, it is OK, but when I booted into OS X (dual-boot setup) it sets the time correctly, then going back into W7, the clock is behind an hour again.
I then noticed that my BIOS time was behind an hour as it didn't move for BST, so I reset that.
What is going on? What role does the BIOS time have in all this?
Also, I seem to recall that I put in some registry edit about UniversalTime previously.
Don't know what effect that has on all this.

Answer:Incorrect time - again!

Just had another thread with the same problem and British Time. It would be my hunch that the British Time change is not programmed correctly. If that is the case it may be best to wait until MS has enough complaints and sends an update.

Question: incorrect time set

Windows 7 always boots with the time at utc (0) even though I have set the correct region (+10).
When I update from the internet "time.nist.gov" the time is displayed correctly but it is tedious to have to do this at every boot.

The local time shows correctly in the bios and in dualboot Linux.

Any clues?

Answer:incorrect time set

You are dual booting, that would be the issue right there. Windows and Linux handle time differently, and unfortunate Linux has this annoying ability to disrupt Windows' time keeping.

I recently bought Sony moviEZ software. I don't think my problem is restricted to this software bu I am hoping that there is a simple fix. When I attempt to register it I am presented with a window prompting me to enter my serial number (nothing else). When I do so a window pops up telling me that my serial number or system time are incorrect and prompting me to enter the correct information. I have tried several times to make sure that I've entered the serial number correctly but without success. There is no place on the registration screen to specify the system time and I have checked that Windows is set for the correct time. I have had no response from the Sony forum. Help!

I was able to set it to automatically adjust from an internet time server. On some of the other computers i tried the same thing and it would not bring up that tab. any suggestions on how i can get the times set correctly and auto adjusted for all the computers on this server?

Hello,

Are your PC's on a domain with Active Directory? If so, you can set them to point to the same NTP server via group policy.

Check out Computer Config\Admin Templates\System\Windows time services

The settings here should aid you. Remember gpforce to get instant results on the machine.

I've never had a CMOS battery fail on me, so no clue on that one. What is your timezone set to, in Windows (or what ever OS)? That'll keep changing it, as long as you have it automatically synced.

Hope this is in the right forum!

For some reason my computer has the wrong date and time. When I turned on my computer today it was on the same day that I turned off my computer 3 days ago. Also, when I completely unplugged my computer from an energy source, the time and date totally freeze on the exact moment I turned it off and unplugged it. Is this suppose to happen? And how can I fix it? Could it be a virus/malware doing this?

Answer:Date and Time Incorrect

Yes, virus can do this. Do a lot of scannings. MBAM or SAS.

Combofix can on rare occations cause this. Did you use Combofix recently? The clock will usually get back to normal when you uninstall Combofix - like this: Start -> Run -> type -> cf /u

Also the program Dial-a-fix can repair your clock. Link: http://majorgeeks.com/Dial-a-fix_Full_d4899.html

Perhaps you need a new battery. There's a small button battery inside laptops and a bigger one inside other computers. It controls the time and has a few other jobs.

Hey,

I'm running windows XP, and my windows time(the one on the taskbar) keeps really bad time, it slowly drifts into the future, today it was a good 6+ hours off. It seems to be just be a little fast as it's not off by exact hours. I just reset it and it's already counting the minutes a little fast.

Anyway, it's sorta annoying and I've just be dealing with it as I have a clock 2 feet from my computer screen anyway, but wondering if anyone has run into this problem before and knows of a remedy for it.

Thanks in advance for anyhelp.

Answer:Taskbar Time incorrect...

i have seen something like this before with winME...i thought it was because the CMOS battery needed replacing, but after i reinstalled their operating system the problem went away. i think your problem is software related. i have no idea where the specific source of the problem could be.

When the user receives a voicemail on the land line, they are sent an email via a voicemail-to-email tool. The email has a copy of the voicemail, duration, phone number, etc. The time stamp within the email is correct. However, the time stamp that Microsoft puts in the message is incorrect. It is off by approximately one hour. Both the time and date settings and Outlook settings appear to be correct though. The time stamp that I am referring to is below the Respond Group within the Message tab. It is directly above contacts name and the subject of the email. In Outlook options, there is only one time zone selected, which is: UTC-5:00 Eastern Time US & Canada. The data and time settings for the computer are correct too. When I forward the original email as an attachment and subsequently open it on a different workstation, it has the incorrect time displayed too.

I have rebooted the workstation, performed a repair to Office, and opened the affected emails on another workstation (same problem). Any ideas how to resolve this problem?

Lately, in OE, the "received" column of my incoming e-mail shows over an hour into the future! My computer clock is correct, thanks to a little program called Dimension 4, the outgoing time is correct, and most, if not all of my e-mail comes and goes in the same time zone. I sent myself a message; it went out at 10:02 (which was the correct time) and in a few seconds, came in at 11:12! I went to the OE help site, and could not find any similar problem there. I have Windows 98, if that matters, and Outlook Express 5. Not too major a problem, but it has served to make me realize how much I did look at the time that mail came in!! I am sorry if this question has been answered, the only threads I found had others having the same issue but no definitive answer. I am working with an XP service pack 3 system whose clock didn't change after DST and is still an hour behind. So far I have checked the system clock in BIOS and saw that it was an hour behind so I set it to the correct time. In XP I ensured that the time zone was correct and that automatically adjust for DST was selected. When you change the clock manually it changes back at some point throughout the day or at reboot every time. Searching pointed me to a DST patch http://support.microsoft.com/kb/955839 but when I downloaded and installed XP told me that the patch was already installed. The only clue I have is when I run a net time /domain: on the system I get local time {GMT - 5:00} as \\ is where as other system on the network work the same command gives me current time at \\ is thanks in advance for your help

Answer:Solved: Time incorrect after DST

Verify that you have actually selected Eastern Time (US & Canada). The last time I saw this, the PC was set for Central America instead of Central Time. At a quick glance, it looked correct. It wasn't until we circled back around that we noticed the difference.

If you right click on the time at the right end of the taskbar you will have an opportunity to adjust the date and time. However, I checked that and something is screwy about the zone settings list. I live in Florida, USA -- Eastern Time Zone but the settings say (UTC-08:00) Pacific Time (US & Canada). It seems something is amiss in the program. I'm going to post a query about that. Meanwhile, if your time display looks OK I suggest you leave it alone. Windows 10 is full of holes and I believe that MS will fix them eventually. I also believe in world peace and the Tooth Fairy.

Hi,

The time on my win 7 x64 ultimate is incorrect. I am in the uk so am on London time. We have recently entered Daylight Saving Time. So the clock should have gone back one hour but it appears to have gone back two! A week ago the time of day now would have been 00:20, the time now should be 23:20 and the time my clock is showing is 22:20.

I have looked in control panel > Clock Language Region - and my time zone is set correctly to UTC Dublin Edinburgh Lisbon London as it should be. I try unticking adjust for daylight saving time and click apply but this doesn't even change the time( not even by one hour as it should) it seems to not matter whether it is ticked or unticked, my clock remains an hour behind what the current time actually should be.

Any Ideas on how to fix this?

The date and time function has gone peculiar. I do not have the computer on every day, and now the date and time only seem to work whilst the computer is switched on. If I turn it off at 1.39 on the 3rd February, then when I next turn it on the date is still 3rd February, and the clock starts up again from 1.39. I have had the computer for 7 years. Is there an internal battery that might now be defunct? Could this be the reason the computer is not keeping the time right. I have adjusted the date and time, but they still freeze when the computer is turned off, and restart at the same point once it is switched on. Any ideas please?

Answer:Date and time incorrect

You need to have a new Button Cell put in to the Mother board. Mine only lasted 5 years

Depending on how old the CMOS battery is, it is the most likely cause.XP uses the time.windows.com link to update the system clock manually or automatically; why not try it from your browser?

Re: would know if ican setup a lock screen wheny computer boots up to completly lock

Don't log in :-D

Use a very difficult password. We have plenty of password generators on majorgeeks.
Enable the system admin account and password protect it.
Those two are probably enough. How advanced is he?

Hi Everyone,

I hope anyone can help me with my problem with my laptop! Currently when I log onto my computer, it takes more than 5 minutes to load. I have already browsed through many threads and have minimized the number of start-up programs. It was a little better but it still wasn't like how it was before.

Also, when I want to shutdown my computer, I have to wait 10 minutes before I will hear the "Windows turning-off sound" and it will shutdown. Does anyone have any clue about how to fix this?

The computer in general appears to be running smoothly once everything is loaded into the computer except for when I want to add/remove any programs where there is a huge lag after uninstalling a program!

These problems started occurring about a couple days ago. I haven't been doing anything differently nor have I installed any new programs onto the new computer. I have scanned for viruses using Symantec Endpoint Protection (and no results) and also used CCleaner to clean everything else.

Here are my laptop specifications:

Dell Latitude ATG D630
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU T9500 @ 2.60 GHz
2 GB of RAM
Operating System: Windows XP Professional Version 2002 SP3
If any help can be provided, it will be much appreciated!!

Thank you in advance!

I've just built a new system. ASUS M2N4-SLI board, 4400+ dual core AMD, nVidia 7600 GS, 250 GB SATA...and so on.

Anyway, the problem is with my clock time. I can't get it to display the correct time after a reboot. I currently run a dual boot XP/Simply Mepis system and what tends to be the case is that one OS is always displaying the wrong time.

So my BIOS time says (for example) 12 noon, and when I log into Linux it says 12 noon. Then I log into XP and it says 11 a.m. I've made sure the time zone is correct.

I've also tried to change it manually. But what happens is it just resets back to -1 hour on reboot. I've tried changing my windows region to the next time zone...in other words so the time zone is +1 hour. Again, this works till I reboot, when even on the different timezone it shows an hour wrong. Plus, when I try this method it alters my BIOS time by an hour backwards and then my Linux time is also an hour retarded.

I'm sure there's a simple explanation. I just have no idea what it might be.

Any ideas chaps?

Answer:Clock time incorrect in XP/Linux

Have you loaded all Windows updates, including the 2007 Timezone patch?

You can download the timezone update here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931836/

Answer:Incorrect Time in Outlook 2000

Check the time zone that the computer is in. If that is not the problem, check the region.

My phone is incorrectly showing location as africa, me being in India. Feature worked best when I went to Singapore and malaysia and couple of days in India. Time zone was correctly detected and even location. But this has been bugging me since past few days. System time automatically goes to African time and zone is set to African time zone. I have checked with maps, gps is still showing Africa. Although wifi solves the issue but on mobile data it is still a problem. Is anyone else facing the same issue??
