Event Log 7031 Errors on Shutdown

Question: Event Log 7031 Errors on Shutdown

This appears to be a general issue with windows 10, I always get the following errors on shutdown:

The VMware Workstation Server service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The User Data Access_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The User Data Storage_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The Contact Data_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The Sync Host_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

I suspect the Event ID 7031 Service Control Manager errors occurred initially in windows 8.1 upgrade and was resolved by Microsoft. It looks like the problem is back especially with the new windows 10 services (with the exception of the VMWare Workstation server)

I suspect this error also affects shutdown/reboot times.

Ideas anyone how to resolve this

Preferred Solution: Event Log 7031 Errors on Shutdown

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi! I have an issue with Windows 10 Pro that causes Windows Media Player to stop playing whatever it is playing and Windows Media Center Extender (Xbox360) to crash (yes I got WMC and extenders to work on Windows 10) that I have determined to be caused by the following event viewer errors/warnings. I hope that if I can fix these errors/warnings my problem will no longer occur. Event ID's: 117, 7031, and 10010 occur when WMC crashes whilst Event ID's 107 and 113 occur beforehand (these warnings might not matter at all).

The only constant errors I get when I reboot are these four, that all share the same ID of 7031.

The Contact Data_Session2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The Sync Host_Session2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The User Data Access_Session2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

The User Data Storage_Session2 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

Is there anyway to fix these, or better just leaving them be?

Answer:Anyone know how to fix Event ID 7031?

I also get these as well as one from VMware. Most people think they get generated when you start Windows. In fact, they are generated when you shutdown or restart Windows. To see this start Windows and wait about 5 minutes. Restart Windows and look at the time stamp on the event error message. It is the time when you shutdown not when you just restarted.

It seems that these services after being terminated by the shutdown want to start up again in the time specified. Of course they can't because they are shutting down. The problem is most likely with the service not the shutdown procedure.

As the errors are generated at shutdown I wouldn't worry about them. If they were generated at startup then I would have an issue with them. Some folks have disabled the services involved via their Registry entries as they don't show up when you run services.msc. I'd advise not to do this.

So in a nutshell, it is a bug but nothing I would worry about.

Hi Everyone, i must say i am so relifed to see this forum . I have one problem and dont hava any idea how to fix it. As you can see from the title its about print spooler. Printer is attached to desktop mashine and its shared. My Laptop use that shared printer and also using pdf2xls printer. Whena i want to use pdf2xls printer my printer spooler stops. From event logs i get the following error:
Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7031
Date: 07/07/2010
Time: 14:49:27
User: N/A
Computer: JFSMAINSERVER
Description:
The Print Spooler service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 60000 milliseconds: Restart the service.
PLS HELP

Answer:Print Spooler Event id: 7031

Hi Sarajevo,

I'm not familiar with the pdf2xls program. But here's a few ideas.
* If you uninstall it does the issue continue with the other printer? If so, it's unlikely (but not guaranteed )that the pdf2xls program is your issue.
* Perhaps pdf2xls does not have permission to write to %systemroot%\system32\spool folder
* try to uninstall it and re-install it with as an elevated Administrator prompt by right clicking on the file and selecting RUN AS ADMINISTRATOR, and run it in XP Sp3 compatibility mode. (i.e. set them both up and run).
* Once you've completed the point above, do the same to the pdf2xls.exe before you run the program.

-Timo

PS: If there are any unprinted files stuck in the spooler that you can't remove, run the attached batch file as an elevated administrator to remove the stuck files.

Hi,

I check and found this annoying code in the Event Viewer...

The Event ID code is the same but with different explanation and usually come in group..This happened to me usually after restart....

1. Event ID 7031.... The Sync Host_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

2. Event ID 7031....The Contact Data_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

3. Event ID 7031....The User Data Storage_Session1 service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 10000 milliseconds: Restart the service.

All these are on the Error Level... not warning...

Anybody know what happen and how to solve this???

I want to stop error code 7031 from showing up in the event viewer log in win 10 (since its a redundant code that means nothing anyway), so does anyone know the steps (and explain in layman terms) to prevent it from posting. I do not mean just filtering it unless that is all that can be done, I want it gone. Thanks

Windows 10 64 bit, latest version, is working fine on my Toshiba i7 laptop with 8 Gb ram. But I have problems with shutdowns when I click on restart. It seems to take far too long to shutdown. I am not sure how to find out why but when checking out the event viewer, I found several shutdown errors (some critical and some warnings). So I got the following screen shots (not sure how I got there) which seem to reveal several errors during shutdown. When I click on the web link I get a non working website.

Question:
1. How do I find out what is making shutdowns so slow when I click restart? (I "think" Shutdown seems faster if I just click on shutdown instead of restart)
2. What problem do these screenshots of error indicate and how do I fix them?
Thank you
Edit:
Got to those screens: Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Component services. Event viewer(Local) -Applications and Services Logs - Microsoft -Windows - Diagnostics Performance - Operational.

Here are some recent error screenshots which occur in both shutdown and bootups.
As can be seen this is a problem that goes back to 2016.

i have noticed that my computer has been taking longer to start up and shut down lately. i have used all my resources to see and control what i am running on startup, from msconfig to spybot's startup manager, there's not a lot running there so i went to check the event viewer and it's full of errors, critical events and warnings.

I tried using MS's websites for help but they are a nightmare to use, posted this same entry in their forums but no answer yet. I'll appreciate if you can help me understand what's going on with my computer. Thanks in advance

Hi,

I was hoping somebody could offer an insight on the below, as searching around I've not found much to go on other than "overheating"

Basically my laptop has been having very high temperatures for a long time (usually ~60C for CPU and often 100-110 for GPU...insanely high, in other words) For example, see how hot the machine gets just by resuming from a sleep (this is all within a minute or so):

I have been seeing the following error in event viewer each time I start Windows (4 entries) for some time:

So today I bit the bullet and had the back cover off the laptop and noticed what a bad state the thermal compound was in, for both the CPU and the chipset chip, so wiped it off using TIM Cleaner, and then applied new thermal compound and put the laptop back together. I was actually shocked because for the first time since I can remember, I could feel cold air blowing from the vents of my laptop! I logged into Windows and noticed that my temperatures had fallen and were staying at around the below:

Not as low as I'd like but a massive improvement. Trouble is, I am still getting the WHEA-Logger event errors in Windows Event Viewer ('processor core') and wondered if this was not in regards to overheating after all?

The plus side is my laptop is now almost totally silent - the way it must have been when I bought it new 3 years ago! But I was wondering how to investigate these WHEA-Logger errors, if anyone has any advice that'd be great.

Answer:WHEA-Logger event 18/19 errors in Event Viewer (W7 Home Premium)

First, well done on applying the thermal paste to the cpu/gpu. I assume you cleaned the vents as well. Did you use arctic silver 5 (just curious)?

I wonder if the processor could have been damaged from the heat. Are you experiencing any BSODs or other problems? You can run Prime95 to test your system. And Furmark for gpu.

EDIT: ARGH, sorry, meant to post this in General Discussion forum, I have no idea if it is a network issue.

Hello everyone,

I keep seeing this error appear several times a day, even during idle, in my Event Viewer. I did a clean install of build 10586 less than a month ago. I'm not having any overt issues yet, but the error is disturbing.

SettingSyncHost (9144) {979B90BD-0F81-4D83-B038-62032DD17C47}: Database C:\Users\xxxxx\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\SettingSync\metastore\meta.edb: Index deleteDetection of table items is corrupted (0).
I have spent a few hours researching this and I can't find any reports of similar issues or even what the file metastore\meta.edb is for. Is this hopefully one I can just rename and it'll automatically create a new one?

Answer:Event Viewer Errors: SettingSyncHost, Source ESENT, Event 467

Bump... anyone have any idea? I keep getting it averaging about once an hour.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot to add, already tried /sfc scannow, it doesn't find the error.

Out of the blue I get 3 event errors when I boot up my Home Premium 64 bit. First time in two years.

Event ID 7006:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied.

I don't have AVG. I have Agnitum Firewall, Panda Antivirus (Free).

Event ID 7009:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the IPsec Policy Agent service to connect.

Event ID 7000:

The IPsec Policy Agent service failed to start due to the following error:
The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion.

When I checked the windows services table, I noticed that IPsec has in fact been started but probably not in a timely fashion. How do I get rid of these 3 annoying errors although I don't notice any performance problems in my laptop?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Three event errors on bootup: Event ID 7006, 7000 and 7009

Hi Atom.

"Event ID 7006:
The ScRegSetValueExW call failed for FailureActions with the following error:
Access is denied."

These events are normal because of Panda Cloud Antivirus' self-protection feature.

"Event ID 7009:

A timeout was reached (30000 milliseconds) while waiting for the IPsec Policy Agent service to connect."

Follow the instructions from here:

Event ID 7009 — Basic Service Operations

You can put new value as 60000 instead of 30000.

The Event ID 7000 should disappear when you boot your laptop next time.

Hope this helps.

I am getting lots of critical errors in the event viewer. Event ID = 100, 200, 400, 307, 402.... (Below are the details for a couple of them). I have seen several posts on the web for this issue but no solutions. It seems to be an issue that affects a lot of vista installs on all different pc / laptops. I'm running an IBM (lenovo) T61 laptop. I don't know if these issues are related but frequently when I reboot the laptop it will hang during the boot up. When this happens I need to Hard Boot the laptop, I will then get the message that windows did not shut down correctly and asks to 1) run a repair restore or 2) boot window normal. Sometimes I need to do this several times before it will boot up. I?m afraid the day is coming where it will not boot up at all.

I would appreciate any information someone might have.

Thanks...

My computer seemed to be running more slowly after the Creators update, so I went into the error viewer and found a ton of errors with the source EapHost, Event ID 2002. From Googling around, I found that this error can be caused by leftover keys from Cisco software, so I went ahead and deleted two of the keys referred to in the error logs, and the errors associated with those keys stopped popping up. However, there's a third error that keeps popping up:

Skipping: Eap method DLL path validation failed. Error: typeId=21, authorId=311, vendorId=0, vendorType=0

The trouble is that this doesn't give me enough information to figure out which key I need to delete. It refers me to a node in the registry called WLANProfileCreationUXAuth. There are six subfolders under that one, and some of them contain keys that I can't delete. (Stupidly, I tried, but the system wouldn't let me.)

What I'm wondering is this: how can I figure out which of the specific keys I need to delete? None of them refer to Cisco, as far as I can see.

Hi -

Most of the 11 BSODs list NVIDIA video as the probable cause.

1. Update your NVIDIA video drivers -

Code:

nvlddmkm.sys Tue Mar 16 22:00:40 2010 (4BA037C8)
nvBridge.kmd Tue Mar 16 21:31:37 2010 (4BA030F9)

NVIDIA --> http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us

One of the BSODs had a bugcheck = 0x124 = WHEA = Windows Hardware Error Architecture - potential hardware failure

Info on 0x124 --> http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-loc...-what-try.html

2. Remove Daemon Tools/ Alcohol 120. A driver common to both sptd.sys is known to cause BSODs.

3. Update your ESET installation to v4.2.64.12 --> http://www.eset.com/download

You need device driver updates. Alienware Support sends me to Dell Support -

http://support.dell.com/support/down...nConsent=False

4. Update all device drivers - chipset (NVIDIA & Ricoh), audio, network. DO NOT download the NVIDIA Video driver from Dell - go to NVIDIA Support per step #1 above.

Wake from sleep is slow and I loose control over curser for 10 sec.

These are most of the errors and their numbers that I have been getting over the past 5 days.

Boot duration 100,101,109,103
Stanby duration 300

Driver caused delay
351 Thumbdrive driver delay
302 Peer-to-Peer Tunneling Protocol
302 RAS SSTP Miniport Call Manager
302 NVIDIA MCP Networking Function Driver
351 ACPI Driver for NT
302 RICOH SD/MMC Driver
Shut down delay 200, 201
Shut down caused by Services delays 203 many different services

I have done the boot and shutdown trace (Gathering a Startup, Shutdown, Sleep, Hibernate, or Reboot Trace[2]=Performance%20Maintenance) and have pm'ed you the link.

I am doing a clean install and would like to get these errors handled before I make an Image.
Thanks for your help!

Answer:Boot errors,shutdown errors, wake errors.

Those numbers are in milliseconds, so all of them added up isn't going to amount to anything. Your trace didn't merge (you have a kmode and a umode .etl file), so I'm merging this manually (meaning I may be missing some portion of the data - I would hope not, but it is possible). There are a couple of things here (the nvidia driver is causing network stack delays during boot, disk fragmentation is apparent, especially in the MFT, Windows Defender is enabled and scanning, heavily, during boot, etc), but I did find something interesting. the xmarks IE add-in seems to cause about a 10 second driver request at about the same time csc is loading, which also occurs at around the same time that an svchost is doing a scan of the registry (and a lot of random writes during read). I also notice that the system spends a lot of time on D:, but the disk information says the partition is C: on a Fujitsu MHW2160BH - that seems a bit odd, so I'm wondering which is which.

Ultimately, however, I am not sure it's anything you've done, per se, but it's a convergence of things here that are conspiring to slow your system. It might make sense to do a few things:
Stop/Disable Windows Defender, and replace it with an actual antivirus/antimalware product like Avast, MSE, etc.
Disable/remove xmarks temporarily - it's not doing you any favors
Run a manual disk defragmentation pass, and then defragment free space as well with defrag.exe (see /? for options)
Make sure your nvidia drivers are up to ... Read more

EDIT: 11/21 The latest thing it says is windows did not shut down successfully because the system stopped responding. Anyone?
After PC is left unattended more than an hour or so it gets a black screen with no error messages, but the CPU and fans are powered up. I must power off and cold start. Usually it takes 3 or 4 tries to get a successful boot, and when I do I get a message that says windows did not shutdown successfully.

The windows error log says the problem is shut down unexpectedly, event name bluescreen, OS version 6.1.7601.2.1.768.3 Locale ID 1033. (Windows Home Premium)

I have all power, sleep, and hibernate options set to never. I have run the memory test and it is OK. I have also run a windows integrity scan which said no corruptions in windows integrity.

I'd really appreciate a hand with this issue. Thanks.

Edit: Although at the top of the post I said "after an hour or so" that is not always so. A more accurate description would be after leaving the PC unattended for several hours.

Question: Shutdown Event

Hardware: IBMPentium(R) 4 CPU 2.6GH1.99 GHz1 GIG RAMXP HOME VERSION SP3Error message I keep getting: "Event provider attempted to register query "%1" whose target class "%2" does not exist.  The query will be ignored."Explanation: "An erroneous dependcey for the class in the query no longer exists, a missing class definition."This has occurred with Firefox crashing, Internet Explorer crashing (not as often), other programs.  After rebooting, it usually runs a checkdisk and reinstates "orphan" files, or repairs corrupt files. In the viewer logs AVG anti-virus keep popping up prior to a shutdown event and I've heard somewhere that it's no longer recommended.  I know that every time I come back from the reboot, AVG needs another complete update.  It's as if information is being wiped out, so that computer can't make the connection and crashes. The User Action says: 1. Compile the definition for the target class into the WMI repository by compiling the class povider mof file.2. Reinstall the program.  Relevant mof files are automatically complied when a program is reinstalled. This is obvious being managed by the Windows Management (Inventory?)Anyhow, I don't know what an mof file is.  If it's AVG that's causing this, or it's a clash with other programs, maybe that's it.  I have some freeware: Spyware Guard, Spybot Search & Destroy, Spyware Blaster, F... I think your regisrty is locked so AVG can't complete a update. It sounds like it deleted or uninstalled some files and you regisrty is still pointing to them.Spybot Search & Destroy locks the regisrty. You can try to uninstall it and than try to run the update for AVG to see if it takes. If not than uninstall it and do a reinstall.Let us know how you make out.

I boot system. I sign in.....system shuts down all by itself. When I re-boot it tells me it failed to to "Thermal Event" and tells to be F1 to continues.

What is "Thermal Event"?

Answer:Thermal Event Shutdown

Hello,

It basically means that your system overheated and shut itself down so as not to damage any components.
Reasons for this range from dust on the heatsink or a fan not spinning to heatsink not being seated correctly.

What is the make/specifications of the system and roughly how old is it?

Hello, I have an x61s running Windows Vista business (32 bit).  I'd like to be able to close the lid while the system is shutting down. That is I initiate a shutdown by selecting "shut down" from the Windows Start menu, and then I close the lid of the notebook, without waiting for the sutdown to complete. Problem is that closing the lid makes the notebook go into sleep mode, even if a shutdown has already been initiated. Does anyone know how I can avoid this, so that the system will continue to shut down even though the lid is closed in the process? That would be most useful, because when I decide to shut down my computer, I want to close the lid immediately.  However, if I close the lid during regular operation (not in a shut down scenario), then I don't want the system to shut down; In this case the system going to sleep following the lid close event is fine. I tried setting a "Lid closed action delay" of 2 minutes (in power manager, global power settings, advanced settings for the "lid closed" event), but this does not seem to work, the system still goes to sleep immediately after I close the lid.Message Edited by astra4 on 12-17-2008 08:22 PM

After losing 15GB of data that will take an enormous amount of time to regenerate ( I have just completed digitizing about 100 vynil LPs and had only burned a few of them to CD) I would appreciate XP Pro informing me a little more forcefully next time there are controller problems on a HDD rather than rely on me to check the log. On review I might have seen something if I checked every day but I don't, only occasionally. My bad but really if the system can come up with a message like 'the drive is corrupt' you think it could tell me.

Is there any way I can get the event viewer of some other service/app to let me know if the red error level event occur esp if they are genetrated by ntfs or disk. It doesn't seem to be an option anywhere that I can see.

I've had the CPU (Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550) moved from my previous pc to a new, identical machine.

Ever since then, I found the pc in "sleep" mode even though I had disabled it, and I'm getting lots of event id 35 errors. It would seem "energy saving features" for the four processors "are disabled due to a firmware problem".

Question: Event errors?

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could help me with these errors? Thanks for any suggestions.Attachment 13376

Answer:Event errors?

These errors from Diagnostic - Performance\Operational includes information about trouble start & shutdown system

Event ID 100 - measure start time
event status:
If start time is less than 60s - event is not reported
if start time is between 60-90s- event is reported as warning
if start time is between 90 -120s - event is reported as error
if start time is longer than 120s - event is reported as crititical
Event ID 101-199 - reports what cause start delay
Event ID 200 - mesure shutdown time
Event ID 201-299 - reports shutdown trouble
It could be possible events id 3xx and 4xx I don't know exactly their meaning although it also some common start & shutdown time

Click on every events and all tabs in every reports if you know more details

see below how it looks by me - it is old event because from long time I don't have event ID 100 - my system start time is less than 60s

Hi

A few months back I started to find that my backups using Mirror Folder were not working using the ntfs change journals. Don't know if this is related to problem this morning though.

I have just tried to back up some files/folders with another application, Macrium Reflect which is now throwing me an error about not being able to create a volume snapshot with error code 0x8004230f.

I have checked the event log and found errors with VSS going back to 02/11/2010. Mainly writer errors until this morning.

This morning I got a different error having reformatted the external drive I was backing up too last night. A catastrophic failure error. See attached vss.txt from windows event log.

I have run 'vssadmin list writers' from command prompt which shows no errors.

I have run chkdsk /f on the reformatted drive which shows ok.

Am continuing to investigate but can anyone give me any ideas as to what I should try first?

Answer:VSS event log errors

Is this the problem?

Looks like it's just not possible. Currently investigating how Mirror Folder handles external encrypted (non-system) drives with regard to VSS.

Hello all,

My laptop works on Windows Vista Business. I use Panda Cloud antivirus and also SuperAntiSpyware and have never detected any problem.
Suddenly I can not connect to internet and even Windows firewall can not be activated. The Chrome browser does not work also. When browsing sometimes I got a page from urlseek.vmn.net. In the Event Log I got the following errors:

Answer:Several Event log errors

Hello again,

It seems that I cann't edit the contentts and the only possibility is to add a new post.
I want to clarify about urlseek.vmn.net because I do not think I expressed myself well. What I mean is that before losing internet connection when I surfed in chrome sometimes I got a page from urlseek.vmn.net. Apart from that I didn't have other important problems apart from beeing a bit slow at boot up.
Also, I found that in Device Manager, if you enable the option to show hidden devices, the section of Non Plug and Play Drivers shows that TCP / IP Protocol Driver and HTTP are not working and have error code 24. I used the option to reinstall TCP / IP using netsh command but does not work.

Thanks in advance.

Question: Event Log Errors

I am trying to help my mom out. But not having much luck. I don't know anything about Vista. So I'm struggling with that too. So if someone could help me out I'd really appreciate it. She has a bunch of errors in the event log. I'm starting with the ones that happen the most.

5 kernel-general
6 ACPI
6 Kernel Whea
10 Kernel whea
1000 Application error
1002 Application hang

could you tell me what I need to do to correct these?

Answer:Event Log Errors

It is sort of difficult without a few more specifics. Is the computer suffering from some specific problem? You can look up the error cods yourself on Microsoft's site, but they are pretty generic.

Hi there and thanks in advance for any help I may receive. I have been getting constant errors in my event viewer, which I look at after my computer does any or all of the following: Freezes at random, loses internet and sometimes BSOD, (although I have not received a BSOD since reinstalling my OS a few weeks ago). I seem to be getting them all over again only this time there is no DHCP errors. This time it's event errors 4202 and 4203. The computer just reboots, no blue screen even though I have the setup to show a blue screen. Using a static address on a wireless desktop with a linksys wusb54gs adapter to a netgear wireless wgt624 router. Anyone, please help. Thanks. Strange, it's been running just fine for the last 2+ weeks until today.

Answer:Event errors

"The computer just reboots ..."

Because of experience with one of my PCs and with a neighbor's my first suspicion is that the power supply is failing (or something in the power circuit). If it is the power supply it may get better for a while but sooner or later it will bet worse. And sooner or later you will get registry and disk corruption. So keep your backups current.

Two other possibilities, easier to check, are overheating and a memory error. A good memory checker is this one: http://www.memtest.org/

Question: Event Log Errors

I discovered several repeating event log errors today when I decided I wanted to speed up my boot time. I've attempted to fix the errors but have been unsuccessful thus far.
Problem: My startup time should be quite a bit faster then what it is.
I have adjusted my services to the "safe" specs from Black Viper's website. I only have 5 startup programs and they are the following:

ESET Smart Security (I have disabled the startup scan)
Cobian Backup (small backup program that has a small service running in the background so it knows when to start my scheduled backup; this program loads instantly)
Launchy (I only have 1 shortcut on my desktop and 4 in my taskbar. This program replaces all of the shortcuts.)
AHK Script (custom made script that is extremely small)

I have attempted to disable every automatic update program on my computer.
I thought I had disabled adobe flash player from auto updating itself but I got a message this morning notifying me of an update.
I've looked through the services and startup and I can't seem to find the right program to disable.
Where can I locate this program?
Here are the two errors that I'm getting:
1.
Event ID: 315, PrintService
Error: 2114

I plug in a flashdrive, scan it, copy a few files, pull it out (it had 3 files on it, never have viruses. Never.). Windows suddenly decides to shutdown. Waited :30 sec, rebooted, logged in and went to Event Viewer>System and filter for 6008 events. Zero, no listings. Can't find anything in the past 20 minutes that looks like a shutdown.

What gives? How can Event Viewer not show the shutdown? How can I find out what the burp was? I've had no issues lately (since a new card in July), Windows has been flawless. I hate it when Windows does something like this and I can't track it down.
Thanks in advance for any interest,

I have been encountering slow shutdown times on my desktop recently. I looked in the event logs to try and find some clue but they were not that helpful to the less than technically minded

1: EVENT_TCPIP_TCP_CONNECT_LIMIT_REACHED
I had a lot of the above that were listed both as information and warning

2: also W32time came up several time as both info and warning

3: NetBT came up several times - with
"the name MSHOME could not be registered on the interface with IP address xxx, the machine with the ip address yyy did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.

The only hardware I have installed recently is a Belkin wireless card (whose problems I have posted elsewhere ) This may have something to do with it but I am not sure. Briefly my setup is a wireless laptop (no problems) and a wired desktop (which has been re-configured to run on wireless)

I am running Windows XP pro with SP2 on an AMD system with 2 gigs ram

I have run several virus checks and I run spybot regularly, I have a belkin router to connect through to my blueyonder broadband.

Any advice?

I tend to run my computer 24/7, but within the last 3 days, I had my computer shutdown while I was away with an Event ID 109 with the following reason:

The kernel power manager has initiated a shutdown transition.

Shutdown Reason: Battery

Thing is, I am on a desktop computer, not a laptop with a UPS connected. And it is an APC UPS with Powerchute Personal Edition installed. Although this is a Windows 7 to Windows 10 upgrade with Powerchute Personal Already installed. Does anyone know of a reason why Kernel-Power is shutting my computer down for this battery reason?

Answer:Windows 10 Pro Desktop Shutdown with Event ID 109

Hi:

Until someone more expert arrives...

What does the PCPE dashboard tell you?
Are you hearing any beeps from the APC UPS?
How old is the APC UPS?
Are you sure everything is plugged in and working properly, including the data cable from the back of the PC tower to the UPS?

Reason for asking: I had a relatively new APC UPS fail after only a few months several months ago.
It was under warranty and, after calling Schneider Electric, they RMA'd the whole unit (not just the battery), no questions asked. They sent a brand new one in 2 days.
(After many years of using their products, this was a "first". But I was pleased to find that they took care of it with zero fuss. The only chore was having to haul the old unit to the UPS store for the return shipment.)
Just a thought.

I am running Windows XP-Home. All of a sudden when I want to shut down my computer I get a box that comes up and it's for "shutdown event tracker". I never had that before and I would like to just be able to select either shutdown/restart/etc. not having to put in why I am shutting down.

What I read is that this was originally for Windows 2000 but in Windows XP this was shut-off. If that is so - why do I get that pop-up?

In the help area this is what I found:
"On Windows 2000 Server products, you will be prompted to supply information regarding why you are shutting down or restarting the computer. This feature is turned off in Windows XP."

How can I get this turned OFF?

Answer:Shutdown Event Tracker Question

How to enable and disable Shutdown Event Tracker
1.To open Registry Editor, click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.

2.In Registry Editor, navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Reliability

3.Name:ShutdownReasonUI
Type:REG_DWORD
Value:1=enable;0=disable

Hello. First of all, I didn't know where to post this so I chose Win7 because it's what I use.

OK so this problem started about a month ago, but now it's becoming more frequent than ever. What happens is, as I'm chilling on my desktop PC, it just shuts down spontaneously, and here's the thing, since I don't have a restart button, I can't restart it, the monitor goes black (no BSOD) and even if I hold the power button too long, it won't shutdown. The only way to shut it down is to remove the power supply cord (which of course could lead to corrupted hardware, data loss, etc).

Now this mostly happens when I play games with high demanding hardware. So for this reason, I'm monitoring the CPU heat and it seems fine. Max temp goes to about 51C. OK I am now gonna post dxdiag info so you can examine all my PC specs, if you need anything else, just say so.

Thank you very much in advance!

Hey,

I recently had a random shutdown while using Google Chrome.

All I have is the minidump but no way to read it.

There seems to be no record of the crash in my event viewer.

I checked my ram, PS, HD and Gfx card and they all seem to be in working order.

This is a brand new rig that I built so I am thinking it's software related but I want to make sure.

What should my next step be?

My currently up to date windows 10 pro machine has been restarting very very frequently after I've left it for a goodly while, including nearly every night, and in trying to figger out why this is happening, I learned about this option, Display Shutdown Event Tracker. It's supposed to be in the Local Group Policy editor, but I do NOT see an option named that. I'm an admin on my machine, so I'm not sure why I can't see it, unless it's not there any longer? Moved? Who knows? I did locate the .msc for GP, and ran it explicitly as an admin, but nada. Someone had mentioned looking at the user32 events in the regular event viewer, but this is all I see there:

"The process C:\Windows\System32\RuntimeBroker.exe (LAPTOPNAME) has initiated the restart of computer LAPTOPNAME on behalf of user LAPTOPNAME\MyUserName for the following reason: Other (Unplanned) Reason Code: 0x0 Shutdown Type: restart Comment:"

Any thoughts anyone?

I have noticed that in the event viewer that there is a red X and says event system error 50 ID#4609 and under the system control manager there are 4 red X's and they are scm PfMot.nt failed event 7000 and the other 3 are DCOM service data base locked ID#1005. What are these errors and how do I fix them. When I click on them microsoft downloads what it is but not specific enough for me to understand. Sometimes from a cold boot it will hang at finding the hard drives. So after a restart it usually fires up. I have checked the memory with memtest and passed with no errors. The parts are all new. Can some one explain what there errors are and should I be concerned about them..Thanks for any info.

Answer:Event viewer errors

Not sure if this will give you any more information, but go HERE and type in the source and the ID for each event.

Every XP system I have ever seen or worked on has always had a couple of errors, including mine.

I think you will probably find that your "hanging" problem may be unrelated.

If it hangs during Safe Mode startup, then it's more than likely a piece of hardware that XP doesn't like.

If it doesn't hang during Safe Mode, then the culprit is more than likely a driver issue or a startup program/s that's the culprit.

The above is not a rule set in stone, but it's an easy and quick thing to check and may give you an idea.

Also, make sure you are using the latest compatible drivers, remove any hardware you don't use, check Device Manager for any errors and have the minimum programs enabled during startup.

Hi there,

I may just be a little paranoid after dealing with what I can only describe as a hybrid of ProRat with any other combination of symptoms from RootKits and other various malware, but I wanted to make sure that I am not still infected because I'm seeing all sorts of errors in my event logs (mostly to do with licenses and version mismatches, etc.) and RootKitRevealer crashes every time I try to use it. Since it looked like the rootkit was in the MBR of a SSD, meaning that I couldn't write zeroes, I replaced the SSD and even flashed the BIOS (it was ready for an upgrade anyway). Now as I'm working on a fresh Windows 7 install, I'm seeing the Event Log errors popping up more than I would think they should be.... Can you help me confirm that my machine is safe?

I've attached a copy of the error listings so you can get an idea of what I've seen today, starting immediately after I started to install on the fresh SSD.

Thanks so much!

I have several Win2k servers that I run performance monitoring on. To different degrees, each fills the application event log with perflib errors (at least one error for every update to the perfmon log). I have set the diskperf -y on all servers and this has reduced the total number of errors, but has not eleminated them.

Any ideas as to what to check, MSDN search returns nothing.

TIA

Answer:Perflib errors in event log

Is it the same error every time, or do the errors have different sources and messages?

There are about a dozen articles in the MS KB when I searched just on perflib. Without knowing what the errors are I can't point you at any one in particular.

I recently called two separate tech support people who remotely accessed my computer, and used the event viewer. Inthis, they showed me that in the application list, there were 36,246 entries, and in the system catagory, 58,424 entries, with lots of errors. They also said that I would need level 3 tech support in order to fix these issues, which are making my computer run extremely slow. This is super expensive. So, I was wondering if someone could show me how to fix this stuff myself, or recommend a less expensive tech support. I don't know much about computers myself.

Maybe we can help but if your computer is slow it may just be easier to do a clean install.

Please provide us with your Event Viewer administrative logs by following these steps:
Click Start Menu
Type eventvwr into Search programs and files (do not hit enter)
Right click eventvwr.exe and click Run as administrator
Expand Custom Views
Click Administrative Events
Right click Administrative Events
Save all Events in Custom View As...
Save them in a folder where you will remember which folder and save as Errors.evtx
Go to where you saved Errors.evtx
Right click Errors.evtx -> send to -> compressed (zipped) folder
Upload the .zip file here.

I see this in the Event Viewer in "Aplication"

Windows saved user MCD4X4\Brian registry while an application or service was still using the registry during log off. The memory used by the user's registry has not been freed. The registry will be unloaded when it is no longer in use.

This is often caused by services running as a user account, try configuring the services to run in either the LocalService or NetworkService account.

And these two in "System":

The Matrox WDM capture/crossbar driver service failed to start due to the following error:
The service cannot be started, either because it is disabled or because it has no enabled devices associated with it.

Timeout (30000 milliseconds) waiting for a transaction response from the MGABGEXE service.

I'd like to fix them because I can't use any capture software, probubly related??

Answer:Event Viewer Errors:

Did you chk your drivers. My computer then right click and go to properties, click on the hardware tab, then click on the device manager button, check to see if you have any yellow exclamation marks next to any hardware if you do, then it means the drivers weren't installed or they need to be updated
Click on Start, Run and type "Services.msc" It'll bring up all registered services on your system. Try looking for Matrox WDM capture/crossbar driver service and see if it's started, stopped or disabled. If it's not started, then start it. If it's disabled, then enable and start it. Try capturing after that.

Answer:Help with several errors in event viewer

Hi, just a quick comment- there was a very similar post to which I responded about event viewer errors; I took two examples, and suggested an approach to one and posted a thread in this forum on another. The poster, having seen the nature of what would be required just to address one such, was deterred.

If you have something specific which concerns you and is related to a functional problem you are experiencing, by all means please post that, but to try to address a range of event viewer errors would be a very lengthy and not necessarily successful process.

It would be better for you first to pick a couple of the most serious or most frequent and do some initial research yourself, if you are no further on than being at the point of looking at your event viewer and thinking 'What's all this?'.

Let me say that I'm not really sure if this is the correct place to post this question, if that's so, please move it accordingly

Answer:SideBySide errors event ID 33

Hi,

Based on my further research, Event ID 33 is logged in the Application log when you start an application that has versioning conflicts. This kind of error doesn’t
affect the functionality of application. You can safely ignore this. BTW, from your event log, it seems to be more related to Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. If you do would like to prevent event error from being logged, you may need to isolate applications
and Side-by-side Assemblies to correct the DLL versioning conflicts, please visit the following site for reference:

Isolated Applications and Side-by-side Assemblies

Answer:Various Event Viewer Errors

HI swarfega,

Here's a link to a post where item #2 was fixed:

Local Activation Permission

I also have a similar item #3 and I know for sure it is a driver issue with my old USB3 enclosure. Unfortunately, the vendor has no intention of addressing that issue (like they did in Win 8.1). The good news is it still works!

So, maybe you can fix that item #2. For the record, I am not going to touch it. I know what it is and it is not causing any issues for me.

Good luck!

I'm getting the error reports shown below in my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 PC. Please advise what this error means and how to fix it.

Answer:Event ID 513 CAPI 2 errors

It is an authority issue when making backups or restore points. There is a fix detailed here that works: Event 513 errors when setting a restore point or running backup - Microsoft Community (look at the "most helpful reply" post)

Be sure to read it carefully and to enter the string on one line. It is difficult to reset the authority if you get it wrong so make a restore point first. My results for SC sdshow MSLLDP were different to the one in the link so for me the fix was

Code:
sc sdset MSLLDP D:(D;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BG)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;SY)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;BA)(A;;CCDCLCSWRPWPDTLOCRSDRCWDWO;;;SO)(A;;LCRPWP;;;S-1-5-80-3141615172-2057878085-1754447212-2405740020-3916490453)(A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;SU)

It is quite simple though - you just add (A;;CCLCSWLOCRRC;;;SU) after (A;;LCRPWP;;;S-1-5-80-3141615172-2057878085-1754447212-2405740020-3916490453) wherever it is in the string. This adds NT AUTHORITY\SERVICE to the MSLLDP service.

If you aren't sure post the output of SC sdshow MSLLDP and SC sdshow MUP commands.

Hello. I have been using hwinfo to monitor my PC, and it is reading WHEA errors. Checking in the event system viewer, they are all event ID 20, and event ID 5. The PC is barely a month old, and was originally using windows 8.1, and never had these errors. In fact, every error seems to have begun the exact date of my WIndows 10 installation. Any help and ideas exactly what is causing this would be greatly appreciated. I haven't had any BSOD just to clarify, just the error codes.

Answer:Event ID 20 errors becoming more frequent

There are many events, like event ID 20, that aren't errors but informative events.

Event ID 20 is the event that says if the last shutdown was succesful or not, everyone gets it.

Code:
Event[3518]:

User: S-1-5-18
User Name: NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM
Computer: TheDude

The last shutdown's success status was true. The last boot's success status was true.

I haven't been able to find in your event logs an event with ID 5, but lots others starting with 5.

The corrected hardware errors are from your USB/chipset drivers, they share the same address.
What you could do is updating these drivers, Gigabyte should provide them.

Hello, I am back with a new mystery!

So, the parts for my new system will be here soon (hopefully start of next week). However I wish to find out what these error messages are before I build the new system.

Here we go:

______________________________________________________________

I am using Win Xp Pro SP2 and every once in awhile I get these errors that show up in the event viewer. I switched not that long ago from win2k pro (finally wore me down lol) and I've never got them before, so I am wondering exactly what is up with them.

Sadly, there is like no info it seems on these errors so I am not sure what to make of them.

They are as follows:

1. Category: Application, Type: Information, Type: ACK_REQ_CHA_LIST End

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( ACK_REQ_CHA_LIST End ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details. The following information is part of the event: ack request channle list.

2. Category: Application, Type: Information, Type: AddChannel

The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( AddChannel ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description;... Read more

Answer:How to remove several Event Log Errors?

Do you have actual errors or issues in your system that led you to look at event logs?
One thing I would do (and that last event type may suggest as much) is to ensure your drivers are up to date for all components.

Hello SF!

I have two errors constantly being registered every time reboot(or turn on) my computer that i cant resolve:

The first one is a Event 3006 LoadPerf:

Quote:
Unable to read the performance counter strings defined for the 01a language ID. The first DWORD in the Data section contains the Win32 error code.

And a second one a Event 1530 User Profile Settings:

Quote:
Windows detected your registry file is still in use by other applications or services. The file will be unloaded now. The applications or services that hold your registry file may not function properly afterwards.

Answer:Two errors in Event Viewer

We'll need the information from the Data section of the error in order to get the Win32 error code on the first error.

As for the second error - it's gonna require uninstalling applications until you find out which one is causing it. Or, you can use the free program Process Monitor to see what's doing the registry accesses - but the log file is huge. It's available for free from here: Process Monitor

I searched and saw where this could be related to restore, so I went and created a checkpoint on system restore and went back into event viewer and there was the same error at the same time I did the creating a checkpoint. Here's the error:

Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

Details:
AddLegacyDriverFiles: Unable to back up image of binary Microsoft Link-Layer Discovery Protocol.

System Error:
Access is denied.

Answer:More errors in event viewer

Hi,

That error keeps on cropping up occasionally.
As the message suggests it has to do with permissions on some folders in the windir. It is generated whenever Windows Backup or any other back up software is invoked.

As it happens I just fixed it on my Insider Preview system a few hours ago.
Copy the entire lines of commands into a command prompt with admin rights and let it execute. It should return a message like "Operation successful" or something along those lines.
After that you'll never see the CAPI2 error again.

Cheers,

I just did a clean install of Home Premium but I'm STILL having performance problems. So I naturally go to the Event Viewer to check it out. I came up with a CRAAAZY amount of Warnings and Errors. (Snipping jpg attached). But what I need to know is how to fix all this stuff. Any help available???
