Preferred Solution: Windows 10 suspended mode

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

We religiously track Windows Application fault events in our environment.

Recently we have noticed that when, Word 2013 x86 version (15.0.4823.1000, 15.0.4805.1001) running on Windows 8.1 x64,  crashes due to corrupted heap, we find suspended winword process that have no running threads.  the ccorrupt heap crashes are of
the type  exception c0000374 in Ntdll.dll at offset 0x000e6054.  We have two different situations in which we can trigger a crash that will produce the corrupted heap.

The problem is after the App crash the Windows Error Reporting service, attaches the WerFault.exe to the crashed process and saves the WER Dump file.  The problem is after this process is finished we are left with Winword.exe process that are in suspended
state.  They are not visible in the TaskManager but they show-up in Procexp,  these process have no running threads and the End task or end task tree have no impact.  The only way to exit the suspended process is to log off the user session.

The suspended Winword.exe process cause problems when we re-launch a clean word, we have an add-in that detect's the suspended Winword and will not run.

On a test machine we disabled the WER service and of course we no longer see suspended threads, this is not an option for use because stopping the WER service stops logging of all Application Fault event ID 1000 and Application hang 1001 entries from the Application

I cleaned an AVscan-infected Dell using MBAM. I was able to boot into safe mode, in which I ran both MBAM and SuperAntiSpyware and cleaned out the infection.

The problem is that now I cannot access the internet from this machine. Safari returns its standard page not found errors. I tried ping as well, and I cannot get a response to pings of sites. This happens in both safe mode and normal mode.

I went to the Control Panel - Networking and did a "Repair" on the wireless connection. No change in the result.

I checked on System Restore while I was there - and the restore is listed as being in "Suspend" mode although there is 66GB out of 100GB free on the hard disk.

I followed a link from another post here to something call win sock fix, but when I downloaded it Windows warned that the file contained something dangerous so I have not yet tried that over on the laptop in question.
How do I re-enable the system restore modes, and how do I repair the networking issue?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:post-cleanup, cannot access internet, restore mode suspended

Found it.
They had added a proxy server flag, with no proxy address provided. In Safari, Tools - Preferences - Advanced - Change Settings - LAN settings - unclick Use a proxy.

Any ideas on the System Restore fix?

I have an annoying problem, windows loads normally up to when the desktop picture appears, then it hangs for probably a minute (you cannot do anything with the mouse although it moves around) then it resumes loading as normal and runs normally.

I suspect it's some sort of indexing or windows is looking for something, how can I find out which program or process is holding things up?

Answer:Suspended windows loading

use msconfig from the run command and try turn one thing off at once and reboot till you find the one that causes the hang.
dont forgot to reenable each one after the reboot.
just remove one at once till the culprit is identified

Hello, I'm having an issue with my Windows 8.1 that the computer always crash after I want to resume to my suspended activity. I've read in other places that the issue was the Hybrid Shutdown. Well, for some reason, my computer does not have this option, but I was able to disable it via regedit.exe and cmd.exe.
By other people complaints, this issue happened just after they upgraded to Windows 8.1, when for me, it happened in the last update (I was already using Windows 8.1 and my computer was suspending it just fine).
I use suspend on my computer for fast loading time, instead of powering on and off. I was doing this for forty (40) days, before I decided to restart to make some updates (The Windows Update was realized between 12/31/2014 and 01/01/2015):
The latest updates were:
KB3000850 (Optional update) ( )
KB3013769 (Optional update) ( )
KB3013816 (Optional update) ( )
KB3014442 (???) [Not shown on the Update History table] ( *)

I know I'm not the only person who uses AIM here, and hopefully not the only one that discovered my account suspended the other day.
Turns out it was AOL screwing up, yet again.

From Slashdot:
"According to a story on eWeek, AOL has mistakenly suspended a very large number of AOL Instant Messenger (one of the most widely used IM programs) accounts, by mistake. I don't know about you guys, but this happened to me and a large percentage of friends and coworkers. AOL says that a fix should be ready by Monday."

Yet it could take up till Moday before it is fixed. Programs like Trillian are starting to look a lot better really fast for me.

Answer:Your AIM account is not suspended.

That sucks...that happened to a friend of mine.

I use Trillian though but theoretically it could have still effected my aim account...but it didnt...oh wells...

For some reason starting about a week ago certain processes occasionally become suspended on my laptop. I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro on a Sager laptop with 16 GB of RAM and then i7 processor. The processor becomes suspended varies but IE 11 is one of the ones that become suspended and when it does obviously cause all kinds of problems. I'm attaching a screen capture showing 4 processes that were just suspended when I checked. Any idea how this is happening and how to prevent it?

Answer:Processes Becoming Suspended

What sort of problems does this cause?

The ability to suspend programs particular the new style apps is a design feature of W8 and W10 and is to ensure that they do not consume memory and CPU time when they are idle. If you open resource monitor and look at the CPU tab all the suspended apps are shown in blue at the top.

Question: Suspended Account

Goodday to all you windows 10 gurus:

I am attempting to remove the suspension on my Microsoft Account. MS has informed me that they will text me a code to remove the suspension. The problem is that I'm a 76 year old dinosaur who has a land line phone that doesn't receive text messages. I've tried very automated link to support service to remedy the situation with no luck. Do any of you good folks have a support link where I can contact MS to get this resolved?

Thanking you all for any responses in advance and looking forward to your responses.
Powell Lucas

Answer:Suspended Account

Hi Powell Lucas.

Try this link.

Assuming you get in I would then proceed to open a gmail account. Its only use will be for these codes. Set it up so that the alternate email address for your gmail account is your microsoft account.

In your Microsoft account enter into the security info section and update it with your gmail address.

Going forward if you have a problem with either account the "code" will be sent to the alternate.

Hi All,
We've implimented Windows 7 to our organisation, but we're having some sporadic issues with BitLocker.
We've recently bought in Toshiba Z830 laptops (TPM 1.2, BIOS Ver 1.6) to our fleet and we're finding in about 10% of rebuilds (using PXE F12 boot or SCCM deployment) that the BitLocker starts to encrypt the C drive, but suspends itself before completion.

You could try uninstalling it. **backup your chats first** then soft reset your phone (Vol down and power together until vibrate on) install WhatsApp again and see does this help. Also make sure you don't have it to run in the background in battery saver.

Anyone experience their T470 being hot while suspended? I should note that I'm using Linux, but from reviewing dmesg the laptop is suspended on lid closed. The red light pulsates, but the CPU gets hot. First noticed after pulling it out of my bag, and it was very hot. Kernel dmesg shows it waking up when I open the lid, but obviously not everything is powering down how it should. I haven't tried with Windows yet, but would it make a difference? I thought suspended was suspended. But perhaps I'm wrong.  I'll be able to try with Windows in 2 weeks or so. Thanks.

Hi- My first post.
I've got a Toshiba laptop running Windows7. I like windows7 a lot actually!

Today, I tried to install a video program. It never seemed to work and hung up on "installing directx plugins". So, I downloaded Directx 11. It still didn't work and so I uninstalled the video trial (Vegas).

Anyway, so now, when I go to use my recording software (Sonar and Cakewalk) it tries to launch and installs it's plugins, but hangs up during launch. I go to Task Mgr and it says it's running, but only at 11,438 bits.

I look further into the TM and it says these programs are running but "Suspended". Not sure why this would be, I can only think of the new Directx thing.

So I tried doing a system restore to before I installed dx11. Still no go.

I CAN get both programs to run in Safe Mode, but it's not practical.

Any ideas what I can do short of an OS reinstall?

I have setup an outlook email for support, thus far I have received and send only 2 emails, but when I tried to log in I have got a message (twice), that is has been used to sent junk. Thinking about it now, I have emails forwarded to, which is marked as spam by many services, could it be the reason?

Recent activity shows only mine logins, but I use a default password, like: Password123.

EDIT: I have moved to Zoho email. This is the third and the last time I gave outlook a chance.

Answer:Why does my outlook account keep being suspended?

Its unfortunate that this message is worded so. I see it a lot as I set up students in my class on Outlook. We've checked and there is no unauthorized use.

I believe what it should say with recent accounts, I know we confirm you were not a robot when you opened account but we would like to check again, please.

This is obviously not the message you want to show seniors and it reinforces their doubts about safety on the Web.

Once you do this validation it is highly unlikely you will see message again, at least that is history with my students and we do about four new email accounts every three months.

Now with Outlook you also have to develop "rep". New accounts that try to send to large distributions seem to draw the verification process more often. (history with one of my students.) With normal use your rep or what seems to be rep develops quickly.

I think the app suspension feature as implemented pretty poorly without the option to disable this behaviour for select apps. I'd like to use the apps but I simply can't seeing that the main programs I use break when they're suspended.

Skype stops all contentions and will rarely give me message notification on new conversation, and while most types of downloads in Chrome will break including streams and sometimes even normal http downloads. If I want to check on another app like Skype or my email I'd like to switch from Chrome and come back hoping my stream be complete or download still working. Instead I have to juggle my apps around to make sure Chrome never leaves the screen for more than 5 seconds or I'll have to start all over

I wouldn't mind if Skype and Chrome were in the background using memory 100% of the time. I know this should be left to the developer to improve the background app functionality, but for the time being is there any way I can prevent suspension?

Currious to see if anyone else has ran into this issue with Windows 7 64 bit on these laptops yet.

Not sure when this happened - but I am no longer able to play music with the Microsoft Music app when switched to desktop or another app. When switching, the music app is immediately suspended and sound and playback ceases.
In the past, music continued playing in the background and when I adjusted the volume, a display would come up showing the current song playing. It seemed that the app was integrated into the system in this way, but no longer.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I have the Realtek HD Audio Software installed.
I also have Windows Media Center installed.

I have attached a picture of a sound control panel tab which I thought may be related but changing the settings has had no effect.

Answer:Music App - No Sound - Suspended when switched

it should still work in the background.

have you changed anything recently (since it stopped working)? updated drivers? installed software?

Hi All,
Was directed to this forum by a friend to hopefully solve a problem. For some reason(ie I clicked on something) a system restore started on my laptop. There wasn't enough space to complete it so it's suspended. Is there a way to undo it/cancel it as I think it's used up a lot of memory and is affecting my laptop.
thanks in advance,
p.s. Wasn't sure what details required so I thought it best if you tell me what you require.

Answer:Cancel a suspended system restore

You may want to give this a try. If it does not work, delete all points and then make a new one, in case it is needed

Occasionally my IE 11 Process will become suspended. When this happens I can still use the IE window I have open but many other things stop working correctly. I've attached a screen capture from Process Explorer to show you what it looks like. I've noticed several other processes becoming suspended such as ShellExperienceHost, Search and several others. I have no idea why they are becoming suspended. I'm running Windows 10x64 Pro on a Sager NP 7378, i7 4710 processor, 16 GB of RAM...

Any ideas what's causing this?

Sasser author gets suspended term

VERDEN, Germany (AP) -- The teenager who created the Sasser worm that snarled tens of thousands of computers last year was convicted on charges including computer sabotage and given a suspended sentence, a court official said.

Sven Jaschan, 19, was found guilty Friday of computer sabotage and illegally altering data, said Katharina Kruetzfeld, a spokeswoman for the court in the northwestern town of Verden. He was given a suspended sentence of one year and nine months.

Jaschan also must perform 30 hours of community service at a hospital or home for the elderly, but will not have to pay court costs.

Jaschan admitted to creating the worm at the beginning of his trial Tuesday -- reiterating a confession to authorities at the time of his arrest in May 2004.

The proceedings were held behind closed doors because he was a minor at the time.

Jaschan was arrested at his family's home after Microsoft Corp. received a tip from an informant seeking a reward. The worm had raced around the world, exploiting a flaw in the company's Windows 2000 and Windows XP operating systems.

Sasser caused infected computers to crash and reboot, making it impossible to work on them. The worm snarled tens of thousands of computers and caused Internet traffic to slow.

Authorities who questioned Jaschan said they got the impression his motive was to gain fame as a programmer. He was arrested sitting at his computer at the house of his mother, who run... Read more

Ok this is kind of a weird problem to have. and i can't get a straight answer from Blizzard as to why this has happened. a few months ago, i had a string of bad luck. i was playing starcraft: brood war on and my power went off. well, when this happens bnet sees this as a "sudden disconnect." and sudden desconnects constitute a short ip ban. so this one lasted about 15 minutes. well, about a week later, the same thing happened to me again. this time, i was banned for a couple of days. the very same day the ip ban was lifted it happened again. anyways, after that was lifted and happened once more, i was ip banned for about 2 months. when that ip ban was finally lifted and i sign onto bnet once more, my chat privileges had been suspended. now, i have talked to blizzard on the phone twice and they told me that my cd-key had been muted and could not be reversed. the weird thing is, all this stuff happened to me on my desktop. i use a wireless router to play on my laptop sometimes and also the same cd-key and i don't have this problem on my laptop. so its obviously not my cd-key that's the problem. also, if i understand correctly, the public ip is what would be tagged if it were an ip issue and that's the same on my laptop and desktop, so i don't see how that could be the problem. i told blizzard all of this and they said that i may have some sort of virus that's causing it. i've ran all sorts of scans and can't find anyt... "It is better to prevent malicious code to run at all, than allow it to run and try to detect & prevent harmful behavior."

There is ALWAYS a point at which malicious behavior detection fails - no matter the security software solution. Period.

In other words, default-deny is the only reliable solution => block, and just don't let it run. Period.

So simple that it is brilliant.

I see your point, but if it was so simple I think most people would use it instead of the traditional default allow.

if you're using all solid state disk drives, there is no need to have metro apps and regular frequently used apps automatically launched under parent process "application frame host" in a suspended state, caching to swapfile.sys.
this is useful for mechanical disk drives but not for solid state disk drives.
the means to turn this off is by changing the start status of "superfetch" from "automatic" to "manual" (located in services console).
apps such as "Calculator.exe" will no longer automatically start in a suspended state under parent process "ApplicationFrameHost.exe" (cached to swapfile.sys).
this solution may have been posted before but i searched and could not find a similar solution.

We have a number of users running a corporate XP build (sp3) on T420's. A handful are finding that the RTC is holding on to the time & date they suspended their laptop rather than updating correctly. This means they can't do a domain logon as the t&d is skewed relative to the dc's.If the laptop is powered off the t&d updates normally. Has anyone seen (& hopefully fixed) similar?? Regards, Paul.

Answer:T420 not updating time & date when suspended

My guess is that this is an xp networking problem and not a hardware issue. You can check the RTC if you suspend the laptop, wait a few minutes and then press and hold the power button to shut it down. This will lose any applications open and you will get an error when you restart, so it is not recommended for normal operation. If you boot into the BIOS, my guess is that the RTC will be correct. When you come out of suspend, XP should supply the credentials to reestablish the session with the DC, and supply the time in the packet. The time should be refreshed from the hardware at that point, and I would guess that it isn't.

I have an Australian Bigpond account and the last couple of days I have been having trouble opening my emails.
I am able to login to my inbox but when I try to open an email I get an error message " User Mail Server Account Suspended". I have tried accessing my emails through the bigpond home page webmail link on my laptop (a windows 8) and on my ipad with safari, both with the same error message.
I contacted bigpond support (thru 24x7 live chat) who remotely accessed my laptop to view my email and told me that I had a malware virus (the heartbleed is the one he mentioned) and I needed to deal with their bigpond platinum service for a fee of $15 per month (for 2yr contract) or $200 for 1 fix. The bigpond support guy said that my account hasn't been suspended but the reason I am unable to access my emails is because of the malware that is on my laptop is stopping any email activity.
I declined this and asked my brother for help, he usually is pretty good at fixing pc stuff. He suggested that I restore my laptop. I have windows 8 and used the refresh option.
After the refresh, I tried to access my emails again but still got the same error message.
A few days ago, I did receive an email, which looked like a bigpond account statement. When I opened this I noticed that it was for an overdue account in another name and account number than my account. I told bigpond about this email but they didn't really seemed worried about it.

Looking for a beefy gaming rig, and don't mind getting your hands a little wet? Hardcore Computer's Reactor might just be the 100-pound computational monolith for you.

Crafted from 2.5mm-thick aircraft aluminum and packed with powerful hardware, the Reactor is already a fairly striking and competitive machine. But there's a secret weapon sloshing around in that unassuming tank: four and a half gallons of cooling oil.

PC enthusiasts looking to get the most power out of their machines have often turned to overclocking ? pushing key components to perform faster than the manufacturer intended. This generates quite a bit of heat, which is traditionally fought using an array of fans or a maze of tubes pumping cooling fluid to select components.

The Reactor takes the liquid-cooled principle a bit further by submerging everything into a tank of coolant. Of course, this isn't your average fish tank filled with mineral oil ? take a look at the innards of this (relatively) mini-supercomputer.

Left: Behold, Hardcore Computer's Reactor. Like most gaming PCs, it's crammed with overclocked, high-performance hardware. But there's an important difference here: Every single component is submerged in a custom-designed cooling oil, called Core Coolant. Less trouble with heat means a faster, highly stable system. Dunking everything in fluid works surprisingly well, and is more efficient compared with traditional air- or water-cooling methods.

Hello to all, new one here to the forum. Well, title says it all... At first I think it was a problem with the way Linux suspends the machine, but now I realize it happens too when I suspend from Windows (I have dual boot with Windows 7 and Linux Mint 17 actually). It started making it sometimes, not always, but now always happens: I suspend, close the lid and put the notebook on my bag. Hours or even minutes later, when I want to use it again and open the lid, its shuts off right at that very moment. If I suspend and 2 minutes later resume with the notebook still on the table, everything goes fine... so I suspect it may be a time thing or bad contact with the battery, but really don't know. I'm reticent to bring it to tech service because of several reasons, so I want to share this and hope to hear if someone had the same problem and how fixed it, if it can be fixed. Oh, and sorry for my perhaps strange english, I'm argentinian.

Hackers exploit suspended and inactive Twitter accounts:

A hacker group has claimed to have discovered an exploit that allows them to seize and reactivate suspended and inactive accounts on Twitter. The group called "Spain Squad" was reportedly able to briefly reactivate accounts that were previously banned from the platform including @Hitler, @1337, @DarkNet, @LizardSquad and @Hell and take control of them with the hope of selling the infamous screennames to the highest bidder, Business Insider reports...

While handles such as @Hitler, @LizardSquad and @Hell were previously suspended by Twitter, other accounts like @AK47, @1337 and @megaupload have been inactive for a while. If an account is found violating Twitter's rules or terms of service by engaging in abusive activities such as spam, harassment, hateful conduct or promotion of violence, it may be "temporarily locked and/or subject to permanent suspension." Once suspended, there is usually no way of creating a new, separate account with the same screenname or reinstate it without the company's go-ahead.

If an account has been inactive for some time or abandoned by a user, the account isn't usually deleted by Twitter, basically rendering it unavailable for anyone else to claim.
"Suspended and deactivated usernames are not immediately available for use, so you'll need to select a different username," Twitter's suppor... Read more

Answer:The Install Wizard Will Complete The Suspended Installation Of A Feature

<<The highlighted volumes do not have enough disk space available for the currently selected features. You can remove files from the highlighted volumes, choose to install less features onto local drives, or select different destination drives.>>

I suspect that this is the reason for the failed install, insufficient space on the hard drive.

I also suspect that the install will proceed normally if you move sufficient files from the hard drive to another partition, DVD, whatever.

So the first thing I would suggest is disk cleanup, emptying the Recycle Bin, removal of all unnecessary data files, and moving all video, graphics, text, and word files to another location.

How many partitions or hard drives do you have and how much free space is on each?

I've never had a failed install (other than RC2 of XP SP3) which did not immediately spell out what the problem might be.

Alright, well, here's the issue
(I come on this site all the time, for trouble shooting, thought I'd finally make an account.)
I have come to find that after start up, after a few minutes. My computer will run EXTREMELY slow, I would wait a few minutes and open up task manager, and see that my CPU (AMD athalon 64 X2 Dual core processor 6000+ 3.1GHtz) and my Ram (16GB gameing ram clocked at 800) both maxed out at 100%, with no other programs running. Just after ideling from start up.
I open the resource monitor, and click (from highest useage) and one of the SVChost.exe files are causeing all of my resources to be taken up.
"for those who will want to know, it's SVChost.exe (LocalServiceAndNoImpersonation)"

So for the past few months, it's either I don't turn my computer off, or when I do, I need to be quick and catch it when it does start eating up the resources.

The only reason why it's a pissoff to me to the point of posting about it, and actually posted about something, is because if I want to start MSN or Skype (only those 2 programs that I know about) I need to go through the whole SVChose.exe list, find that one, un-suspend it, wait for the program to finish starting up, and pray that it doesn't lock up my computer.

I have Win7 64bit Home Premium, SP1
running on my custom gaming computer built by myself.

Hello all,I just got a used w520 under warrantee from a guy that seemed very nice on Ebay.It had the Intel 80GB mSATA in there and I upgraded to the Crucial m4 256GB and a Bluray Burner. I should mention beforehand, it is a dual boot windows/linux setup, with 200GB on mSATA dedicated for Windows (ntfs with the hard drive 'boot' flag), 1GB as a shared FAT32 drive (to share between linux and windows in case linux O.S. cant read/write to NTFS), and ~50GB remainder for the linux partition (3rd partition divided into many four logical partitions: /, /boot, /home, linux-swap).It was working fine for 1.5 days.I noticed while in Windows it'll suspend. and I turn it back on and even though battery is full and plugged in, it seems to want to suspend again. Then turning it on again, the screen is black and stays that way, I think it gets to a Windows login screen cause i can swipe my fingerprint and think it sounds like its going into Windows. I think if i closed the monitor and re-opened it *may*/rarely actually show something on the screen for a bit (but may go away). I then powered down many times and it didn't even show BIOS screen! I put the old Intel 80GB SSD back in and wasn't having much more success (but it helped get the BIOS screen back). I tried without the battery plugged in and just using AC. I am in dire need of some major assistance!

Background: My comp automatically goes into hibernate after 20 mins or so. That being the case, it is not too often I shut down/restart my system. The last time I did, however, the computer rebooted with the problems stated below.

No sound at all. I get an error message prompting me to download required codecs that are missing for video files. iTunes gives me an error message claiming the sound device is not working properly. System functions in the Control Panel show me all devices are working properly.

No taskbar. I have to run programs using Ctrl+Alt+Delete.

I cannot add, remove or generally move files. This is particularly stressing being that I cannot create backups. When I attempt to run a program installation (iTunes setup, for example), I receive an error message stating Windows Installation cannot complete the setup.

System restore is "suspended". When I attempt to run system restore, I get an error message stating my computer cannot be protected and to restart. Even after restarting, I get the same message over and over again. The status of system restore shows "suspended" due to not enough disk space on my PC. This cannot be accurate as I show plenty of space available.

Attempted troubleshooting:

- Virus Scanner (Avast), nothing found
- SpyBot Search & Destroy, nothing found

Hi all Previously I considered my x121e suffer from overheating issue and causes real time clock error (RTC). However, after more testing and investigation, I believe the problem is related to other hardware issues and I like to hear people opinion before sending the laptop back to Lenovo. The machine goes into suspend status either pressing the power button or closing the lid from Windows7 (clean install) without problem. However, it would wake up itself randomly, "beep" twice and screen shows RTC and CMOS checksum error. This happen more often when I am holding the machine (i.e. some movement/vibration). I wonder:- Is it the RTC battery problem, cause the RTC to wake up the machine?- Other hardware failure? The laptop has a clean OS installed/recovered. Latest 1.16 Bios installed. No USB or memory card attached. Ram replaced and not the cause. Please advise Howard

Answer:x121e randomly wake up from suspended status and real time clock error

In my experience, reports of CMOS and clock problems indicate that the CMOS/RTC backup battery is bad almost all the time.  If you replace it and problems persist, it could be that the motherboard has a bad BIOS image loaded, in which case I would try reflashing it.

Hello.I have reached the conclusion that I need to format my laptop: acer travelmate 2414wlmi.and reinstall windows xp, however I am not sure if this is possible as the os does not load in either normal mode or safe mode.I picked up a virus a few days ago that redirected me repeatedly to *Blocked Russian URL*, a problem I've seen that others have had. But now that I have access to an external hard drive to save my work, windows does not get past the welcome screen in normal mode, and is only usable for about a second in safe mode. Is there anything I can do to save my work?Any help would be great. ThanksEd

Answer:Windows does not load in safe mode or normal mode. Need to save work and format.

Depending on the type of hard drive you have you can use one of these adapters to connect to a friends computer and get your data off.  If you do make sure your friend runs a scan on your drive before removing any data.Good luck!Alan <><  [attachment deleted by admin]

Hi, All of a sudden a day before, my computer froze and when restarted it started exhibiting horrendous symptoms-1. windows logo appear,then2. blank screen and no cursor login etc nothing display just sits thereAfter that, I tried to do startup repair but failed.Coming over to Safe Mode it is working fine.I also tried bunch of repairs from there still nothingused the clean boot from msconfig to see if any software causing issue or conflicts and did a system restore, still nothing.checked device manager and there is no exclamation point either that may depict hardware failure. My recent activity-installed "Advanced System care 9" 2 days back but have now removed using safe mode.1 more point it has been a month since my primary HDD is showing SMART error.but if safe mode is working can't we get normal mode backup and running. Please help me out of this conundrum, Any help would be sincerely appreciated.possible options I have in my mind-1.get new HDD and reinstall os2.format existing HDD and install fresh copy but doubt if this issue might returnreadily looking out for other options and would prefer rectifying old one first so that I can avoid a long tedious process of reinstalling everything from scratch.Sincere thanks to any responses.

I have Dell Inspiron 14z 5423. Recently this ultrabook crashed and I had to fresh install windows 7. When I tried to install Win 7 then it didn't load any of the Hard disk. Someone suggested me to change the SATA mode to AHCI ( Previously it was set to  Intel Smart Response Technology Mode.). I installed win 7 with AHCI mode enabled ( but I also had to delete the whole 500 GB Hardisk unfortunately). The installation how ever was successful but the performance I think has been degraded. It used to boot so fast previously but Now it takes much time to boot and also battery performance has been reduced.

Now I again want to Re-install windows 7 with Intel Smart Response Technology Mode set in BIOS. Please help me with the detailed and step wise instruction for installing windows. Coz as I change the SATA mode to Intel Smart Response Technology Mode then it does'nt show the hard disks.
I would me much grateful If i receive the solution from the Official Dell Support Team.

Answer:Installing Windows 7 with SATA mode set to Intel Smart Response Technology Mode.

Hi TusharKhatiwada,
You should be able to install Windows 7 with Intel Smart Response Technology mode. You may follow the steps below:

Please ensure SATA mode is set to Intel Smart Response Technology in BIOS
Go to RAID BIOS and disable accelerate option for SSD (Use Ctrl+I at ‘Dell’ logo)
Initiate OSRI
Install all the drivers including Intel Rapid Storage Software.

Now to ‘Accelerate’ the HDD using ISRT, you may follow the steps below:

Run the Intel RST software through the All Programs menu or the task bar icon.
Click ‘Enable acceleration’ under either the ‘Status’ or ‘Accelerate’ menu.
Select the SSD to be used as a cache device.
Select the size from the SSD to be allocated for the cache memory.
Select the drive (or RAID volume) to be accelerated. It is highly recommended to accelerate the system volume or system disk for maximum performance.
Select the acceleration mode. By default, Enhanced mode is selected.

Note: Enhanced mode: Acceleration is optimized for data protection.Maximized mode: Acceleration is optimized for input/output performance.

Click OK. The page refreshes and reports the new acceleration configuration in the Acceleration View. Your system is now successfully configured with the Intel Smart Response Technology.

Once this is done the SDD drive will not be visible in windows.
Hope this helps. Keep me posted with the findings.

I got win 7 home premium 64 bit on an i3 laptop. My system worked fine until today morning.

The problem is this;
When I boot the system in normal mode, I get to the part where I need to enter my password to login. Once i do that, all I get is a black screen with the mouse pointer that moves about normally. I've waited for the normal desktop environment to appear (ie icons and taskbar) but this doesn't happen (btw, my desktop background color is always black).
The system boots perfectly in safe mode.

Yesterday was the first time in over a year I used utorrent. I used to get the BSOD when I used to use it. I couldn't rectify the problem and hence had stopped using it. It worked fine yesterday though.

Any idea whats happening and how I could fix the problem?

Answer:Windows doesn't login properly in normal mode but fine in safe mode

I've tried running SFC /SCANNOW a couple of times but I keep getting a message that there may be corrupted files. I also created the sfcdetails.txt file.
Going to try the system restore option now

After upgrading to SP2 about a month ago so I could take finals on my computer at school, i noticed that my computer wouldn't boot up in safe mode (i just get a blank dark screen and i can hear the computer doing something but giving it a reasonable amount of time it doesn't progress from that screen). It didn't concern me because normal mode was working and i was able to take my tests. But now I want to get to the bottom of this. I delayed getting sp2 because i had a feeling it would mess up my computer. (i've had other problems too with visual skins but i was able to resolve those). If it matters, i ran a scan of my system with spyware doctor and it said i had a trojan.dialer and needed to boot in safemode to get rid of it. When I tried, it wouldn't load. Oh, btw, any way to get rid of that trojan.dialer without using safemode?

Answer:Windows Xp Home, After Sp2, Safe Mode Doesn't Work, Normal Mode's Fine?

Try running Ewido online scan and post the results overhere.

I need some help please as I do not know where to start.

I installed a Windows Update a few days ago and then got a BSOD the next time I turned my PC on. So I did a system recovery and this seemed to work.

Now, it's happened again without me doing a Windows Update and I cannot get into safe mode.

I am really sorry but I cannot even follow the BSOD instructions to run a diagnostic tool because I literally cannot get into anything to run the diagnostics.

Can anyone offer me advice?

Microsoft made a few quiet but great changes to its kid-proofing SteadyState tool for Windows 7, changing the name to Guest Mode
This nearly-hidden feature called Guest Mode that is primarily aimed at shared consumer PCs that need to be returned to their original running state after being used by a child or guest. The feature can be enabled on individual user accounts; when user logs off or the PC reboots, those accounts are wiped clean and returned to their original configuration. Guest Mode is useful for small classrooms, libraries, and other shared computing scenarios, but is really designed for home use, where parents may want to configure the feature for their children.
Guest Mode was originally called PC Safeguard. Its features: -Prevents system setting changes. Any attempts to change the system while running under a safeguarded account are prevented.
-Prevents the installation of applications and other software. Once you've enabled Guest Mode, it is impossible to install or permanently configure already installed software applications.
-Prevents the user from writing to the disk outside of their user profile.
-Data saved inside of the user profile is deleted when the user logs off.
To find Guest Mode, open Control Panel, User Accounts and Family Safety, and then User Accounts. (Shortcut: Open the Start Menu and click your logon picture in the top right.) Then, click on Manage another account. From the list shown there, select the account for which you'd ... Read more

Hello everyone.  I am trying to fix my mom's computer but have so far been unable.  The laptop is running but it is incredibly slow.  When I first got on it a bunch of pop ops took over the screen.  The computer would randomly go to other sites on it's own.  It would go to a search sight called "clarosearch".  Worst of all, it's incredibly slow.  For example, from the desktop, it take about 45 seconds for the IE window to open when I click on the icon.  It takes about that long to navigate to a page and so fourth. I downloaded and ran a registry cleaner, spybot search and destroy, malwarebytes, and ad-aware.  These found a bunch of problems and cleaned some up, I guess.  The pop ups are gond and so is the strange search site, but the computer is still running just as slow.  It's a paperweight.  Getting another computer isn't really an option right now as my mom is unemployed and we're actually trying to get her resume online but we can't even do that right now with the way the laptop is acting.  I downloaded hijackthis and ran a scan.  Here is the log.    Oh, and as the subject says, the computer runs fast and fine in safe mode.  Please let me know if there is any other info that is needed as I'm not sure what to provide.  Thank you in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide.  Logfile of Trend Micro HijackThis v2.0.4Scan saved at 6:26:57 PM, on 4/26/2014Pl... ok my pc works like it should in safe mode but it doesnt in normal mode im getting annoyed with this as i have to put internet filters on my pc to block nasty sites and i ahve a feeling that disableing acces to services.msc and gpedit and also changing the safe mode boot in bcedit on cmd may have something to dow ith this im not sure please help

Answer:windows runs fine in safe mode but normal mode is broken

There are many situations where Safe mode can work well and the normal mode hangs, it may be a suspect/culprit of a hardware/software.

Try the following possible steps for diagnosis in safe mode

1) Go to Control panel -----> Device Manager ------> then check for warnings or error marks which makes the hardware made trouble thus your OS freezes;/ try to uninstsll then check if still persist.

2) Go to Start Menu ----> Click Run -----> then type msconfig -----> go to services and startups then try to untick any possible problems, assume it should not be from Microsoft. Check if still persist.

This option managed to fix by most users which going to BIOS by tapping del key or f2 key (depends on the manufacturer default key command) then change all settings by default, restart and check if still persist.

Windows XP will freeze after about 10-15 seconds after starting up. I cannot move the cursor or right-click. I have no other choice but to hold down the power button and shut down. However, it loads OK in Safe Mode. Where do I go from here to fix this?

Answer:Windows XP freezes on startup in normal mode, but loads OK in safe mode. What do I do?

Arrrgh! Now when I go into Safe Mode none of the icons appear, and I can't see the Start menu! It's a totally black screen except for "Microsoft ® Windows XP Build..." and "Safe Mode" in the four corners. Please help!

Hi, today I decided to restart my PC but it got stuck at the "logging off" screen, so I just held down power button to turn it off.
When I tried turning it back on, it got stuck at the windows logo. Safe-mode won't work, nor will system recovery.Note: I had not made any hardware changes in the past 3 years. I also don't think I have made any big software changes in the past couple of weeks.
What I was doing before I decided to reboot:
I was reinstalling different versions of firefox because I was having flash issues (FF and Flash arent very compatible on some of the newer FF versions)
So I installed 30.0 and it asked me reboot to finish the installation and here I am. I don't think it's related, might be just a coincidence.
Full details of what is happening:
Normal boot-up freezes at the windows7 logo. The animation freezes too. PC does not auto re-boot.
Safe-mode gets stuck while loading components. Notably at storport.sys (not sure if I spelt that right) PC does not auto re-boot.
System recovery freezes after a while during the © Mircosoft Corporation screen with green loading bar. PC does not auto re-boot.
The little light that flickers when the PC is doing something is not lighting up during the loading screens. It flickers for the first couple of seconds and then just stops (or very faintly flicks every 3-4 secs) The loading screen animation then freezes after ~10-15 seconds.

Hi everyone,

I'm attemping to install Windows 7 64 bits in a Sony vaio SVE14A25CLB laptop. Many threads in this forum already help me a lot to change the UEFI settings to boot from a DVD or USB device in UEFI mode and I clean the hard drive with diskpart. Also secure boot is disabled.

My System specs:
Sony Vaio SVE14A25CLB
Intel Core i5 -3210M, 2.50GHz
Sony Vaio Intel HM76 Express Chipset
Intel HD Graphics 4000, AMD Radeon HD 7670M 1GB
HDD 750GB, 5400 rpm

My next opponent in this journey is while windows setup is loading the files, on UEFI mode, it just stop at loading the disk.sys file (checked in safe mode), but in Legacy mode (BIOS) the windows setup (DVD or USB) start without issues (this is how I managed use diskpart).

I don't think it could be due to hard drive or memory issues (I didn't run any tests yet), as the windows setup start normaly on Legacy mode and It install successfully Windows 7 on a MBR partition.

From factory, the laptop comes with Windows 8, but even if the general performance is very good, it was some "features" that bother me. So hard drive already has GPT and I want to keep that partition table mode in case I need to do a dual boot with windows 8 in the future.

After clean the hard drive I even created GPT partitions following these steps:
Sample: Configure UEFI/GPT-Based Hard Drive Partitions by Using Windows PE and DiskPart (see Sample DiskPart Script: Default Configuration)

Answer:Windows 7 setup stop in disk.sys on UEFI mode, but in BIOS mode it did

Sony boot key is F12.

Make sure you have followed Option One in UEFI Bootable USB Flash Drive - Create in Windows
to create the flash stick.

To install Win7 in UEFI mode sometimes requires some level of CSM or Legacy set in BIOS, even "Boot UEFI First." You will need to scour those listings, post back camera snaps of all available choices for UEFI, Legacy, CSM, and boot order. Are you choosing UEFI device to boot. That would point to the media being the problem.

At Eight Forums they can help you derive your Product Key so that you can reinstall 8 to an MBR disk using media they should also be able to link you to. This is providing the BIOS won't auto-activate on MBR. These mysteries are all shrouded in EightForums which I will get over to one day when Win7 stops being the most popular OS and keeping us so busy here.

Hello there,
I really need help on this one. When I switched on my laptop ( Hp windows 7) , it started as usual and it screened the message " starting windows" as usual , after starting I was expecting the log on screen to come. But there it was, just a black screen while the standard windows tune was heard, there was NO log on screen. It was just black.
Then I went into safe mode with networking. And that's all how it works now.
Please I would be really greatful if you could help me out.
So basically the laptop is functioning all fine in safe mode but wouldn't go further the " starting windows" message in normal mode.
Please Please help

Hey guyz,

I am really in a great trouble. I wonder if some one could help me out with this issue.
My os details: Windows XP service pack 2.

My machine is unable to start normally. It always shows me the black screen with mouse pointer on it.
When I restart my machine it shows me the options to start my windows in:
Safe mode
Normal mode
last known good configuration

I am only able to start my windows If I select 'last known good configuration'. With the rest two I again go back to black screen.
I really cant continue my work like this any more.

Can any one give me a good solution for this?

Answer:Unable to start windows XP either in safe mode nor in normal mode

What is the brand and model of your computer, or motherboard, and what sort of Windows operating system disk you you have... OEM, Dell, Gateway, HP, or other recovery disk?
And how old is your system?
You either have a bad infestation, or a defective hard drive, video graphics, or memory module.
We can perhaps help more when we know what you have available.
