Question: I just found a typo in Windows 10 TP

Is there any way I can report this?

This is just my first post and I'm tryna help out a bit

Preferred Solution: I just found a typo in Windows 10 TP

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

So I was browsing around in Windows Defender (Windows Settings > Update & Security > Windows Defender > Open Windows Defender Security Center > Virus & threat protection > Virus & threat protection settings, then scroll down to Controlled folder access.)

The sentence "Protect your files and folders from unauthorized changed by unfriendly applications" has a typo in it.
(Refer to the attached picture)

? The word "changed" has a typo in it and should be the word "changes" (with an 's' instead of a 'd'), or
? There is at least one missing word in between the words "unauthorized" & "changed"
Somebody should inform Microsoft about this typo.

But Also: I noticed that this is a new option, since the last time I was browsing around in there. What does this option exactly do? It was originally off, but I turned it On. Yet I must say that I have seen a few messages pop up in the right corner of the screen, stating that Windows Defender blocked some programs from making changes. One of them showed explorer.exe from modifying the Favorites folder without me doing anything with Favorites. Exactly what does this option do? Is it kind of like some sort of strict "Firewall"? Because if so, then I like that.

Answer:HAH, I Found A Typo In Windows!

Mine says 'unauthorised' (but then it should in the UK) - still has the typo though

Blocks access to your files and documents by unknown apps (malware/ransomware). It's off by default because not all 'good' apps are in it's 'trusted' list. It takes a bit of fiddling to get all your apps to work after you turn it on.

So I decided to buy Windows 7 from eBay. I didn't trust the people selling product keys only, so I purchased a brand new retail package. When I shop on eBay, I always look for sellers that are really close to me so shipping is fast. So I found a seller, said to be located in Maryland (which is two states away from me), with a great price and great feedback for his W7 sells. I was pissed because when the guy sent me the tracking number, I found out that the item was coming from Beijing, China, not Maryland! But I figured, well at least he shipped it.

THEN, I get an email from eBay saying the listing for the item I just purchased because the copyright holder reported that the item may be a counterfeit. At first I was pissed at eBay because now I had to record of the transaction in my eBay account and could not contact the seller directly from within the item invoice, since eBay deleted. Plus, he had several other sells of this same item, all with positive feedback of the W7 package, and eBay did not remove the listings for them. So I was like, why me? Luckily, I had his email from paypal and contacted him. He assured me that he is the legal owner of the item and that he sent proof to eBay saying so. Still never got my records back.

Anyway, this prompted me to search counterfeit Windows 7 retail packages. I found some interesting info, but my package doesn't fit any of the counterfeit profiles Microsoft says to look out for. The top hologram is built onto the ... Read more

Answer:My Windows 7 copy looks counterfeit. Typo on back cover. Came from China (eBay). Pics

It's fake, that's pretty obvious. The hologram thing is most likely a sticker on top of the actual disc surface - you can use a fingernail or razor blade at the very edge and lift it up a bit, that's 100% proof. The part numbers don't seem to match up with the actual Windows 7 Ultimate part number, and it just has a fake quality all the way around.

If you contact Microsoft, show them the pics, explain where you bought it from and your situation, there is a small - small but it exists - chance they'll provide you with a key just for making the report and identifying the seller you got it from.

No guarantees, but at the moment you're better off reporting it to them and going from there. Sure can't hurt to let them know, either way.

I'd report it, personally, without even really thinking about it. It just SCREAMS fake.

I mistyped a url earlier (I believe i typed 'radiosahck' instead of radioshack) and was redirected to a strange website (something about internet surveys I believe) I closed it right away and did a quick scan with malwarebytes to make sure nothing was wrong, and it came up empty. I'm probably being a bit paranoid here, but is this anything to really worry about?

Answer:Odd URL typo redirect...

Redirects can be something to worry about, as you have no idea what content is being hosted on the re-direct. Most popular anti virus programs, have real-time scanning, where it's constantly scanning your computer, and as soon as you're redirected to a bad website, it will block any content that's harmful to your computer. I use Eset and it does this.

Question: Microsoft Typo

Microsoft made a typo in their WinSAT application, How can we let them know about it?

Answer:Microsoft Typo

Hi Steven,

You can try contacting them by following the link below. Whether or not you will get a response I cannot say. I have managed to locate the error in the 'WinSAT.exe' file (notice the space between the letters), and you can edit it to replace the erroneous 'o' with an 'i', however by doing so you will probably cause it to fail an SFC scan. In my opinion, it is such a minor error that it is probably best left ignored.

Okay helping a friend via long distance phone calls and the random email. This is the only info I have, if someone could shed some light on this and help, we both would appreciate it. Here is the email she was able to send:

"Still messing with that damn trojan. AVG sees it and asks the usual, delete, heal, or move to vault. No matter how many times I choose delete, or heal or even move, it comes back again and again. This is what was causing my IE to try and dial out (at least, that's what I get from looking online for info on this damned thing) and share my info with the hacker. Avast does not seem to see...this file. It is saving itself (and apparently restoring itself) in my Windows folder as a dll file. prntsvr.dll to be exact.

The name AVG gives is PSW.Dumarin.C. The last thing I tried was to turn my
system restore off, delete the file and re-start... but guess what? lol, Yep, it is still there. *sigh* Why do people have to make these things???"

I'm really feeling uneasy and stressed about this, any advice?
Why does stuff like this happen whenever your in poor health or any other of life's trials and complications?

Answer:Open DNS typo on router

Two things you might check:
1. In Windows, do your Network Properties have a DNS Server entry(s) that point(s) to your router (probably or close) or do they point to the published OpenDNS IP addresses? Easy check: From an Elevated Command Prompt: ipconfig /all
2. After you corrected the DNS router entries, did you have the router do a cold reboot?
I believe you shouldn't overly stress yourself over this if you didn't make any financial transactions. But new passwords could be needed.

Hello everyone,

I am experiencing the red typo lines when there are no typos. This happens on occasion when I'm typing emails and posting or responding to forums. It seems to occur when there is an actually typo and I correct the error. After that the entire post/email from that point on will have the red typo lines.

For example it is happening now... I'll try to post a pic for a better understanding.

Has anyone experience this as well and most importantly does anyone know of a solutions to this?

My unit is new and I have yet to DL Office 365 so I don't have Word. Not sure if that will matter.

Any input is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Spyware authors and phishing fraudsters yanked an old scam out of the playbook Wednesday by directing malicious code at Internet users who may be prone to typing or spelling deficiencies, according to security researchers.

Finnish security firm F-Secure said they discovered an attack aimed at Web surfers attempting to land on Google's (Quote, Chart) homepage, but who may have mistyped the Web address.

Internet users who punch in "" are treated to a host malicious code, as the computer gets slammed with a heap of the unwanted software that is automatically downloaded and installed. Memory corruption caused by an unknown driver. Please run memtest and driver verifier.

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program.

Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Win7 Startup Repair feature).

Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo? For example, I type "tsanding," and instead of changing it to "standing," it underlines it red. I know I can then right-click it, and select AutoCorrect > standing, so that, from now on, if the same exact typo arises in the future, in which I accidentally type "tsanding," it'll change it to "standing." I've thus far collected *hundreds* of specific typo corrections in this way. But that's very time-consuming, and is only a weak attempt at preventing typos I may be likely to make in the future (based on the fact that I made the exact typo at least once before). Is there any way to establish that I want Microsoft Word to go ahead and correct every single "underlined red" occurrence from now on, based on its best guess as to what I meant? (except in cases where the typo was so bad that it has no guess at all) That way, when it corrects something I *didn't* want corrected, I can then go back and add what I wanted to its dictionary, to tell it not to consider that word an accident from then on.

Answer:Is there a way to tell Microsoft Word to "guess" what I mean every time I make a typo?

Found this in the Word Help files. On the Tools menu, click AutoCorrect Options. In the Replace box, type a word or phrase that you often mistype or misspell ? for example, type usualy. In the With box, type the correct spelling of the word ? for example, type usually. Click Add. Is this what you're talking about?

Hello all,
Here's something i've not run into before, this in on a newer computer, purhcased in the
last 6 months, and I came back to my computer, seemed to be asleep even though I have
sleep and hibernation disabled, and I had to force my computer off, after no response from

Then Windows 8.1 won't start, and the automated repairs don't succeed.
When windows was trying to start, it states something about the drive being locked, and

Then I booted to the command prompt, get to the C: Drive, and I look at the directory and
it seems to be missing a number of folder such as Windows, and Program Files, as well as
the users directory is missing my primary user name.
Then I look into the found.000 folder, where CHKDSK keeps it's recovered and orphaned

I've never seen this before, i've had crashed drives, garbled data, corrupt data, etc..etc..
but I've never found a significant amount of data, in this folder, and clearly this is where
my windows, user profile, program files, and personal data has gone.
The folder has yesterday's date and time stamp around the time I encountered this problem.

So it's a long story.
I hadn't had Microsoft Net Framework on, so I turned it on.
Then my PC randomly crashed.
Tried to reboot but it got stuck in the crash then reboot circle.
I tried my hardest to fix it but I couldn't find anything to fix it so I decided to just,
reinstall windows.
I made a bootable usb windows install which worked last time I had to reinstall windows.
This time I load the usb up and it goes to the language settings, then it has 2 modes.
Custom or upgrade.
Upgrade has the whole "you've loaded windows with the installation disk blahblah"
Which doesn't work cause I've tried to fix that to.
So I'm forced to do custom, which only show Disk 0 (Which is my Usb)
I choose browse so i can see what disks I have and I have 3.
C: (Usb)
X: (Don't know what this one is)
and The cd drive.
The "X" drive only has 30 free mbs of space, even though my HDD has 500 Gigs.
TLR Hard Drive doesn't show up.
Please, someone help as this is very annoying.

After installing Norton provided by my ISP did a scan and norton detected a trojan horse in big bold letters. don't know what it deleted, but now half of my system is gone, I can't reinstall windows because I never got a disk, and since the computer is much older I cannot install win 7 on it until I upgrade some of the hardware. yet I do have an activation code for windows. everything that is on the computer is infected including malware bytes.(which I downloaded after finding out I had a virus) I am messaging on my new computer that I am almost positive is not infected. (I say almost because I think my husbands computer may have a virus on it too, and we are connected to a wireless network also I have a usb flash drive that I used on both our c... Read more

Hi hgkaroley,
Have you downloaded the TVT System Update from the support site?
You can also download individual drivers here: Drivers and software - ThinkPad T500, W500
Let me know if that works out for you!

I have a laptop that currently has Windows 10 installed on it.  I'm trying to install Windows 7 instead of 10, but the windows 7 installer is showing there is no disk available.  In diskpart if I list disks it says there are no fixed disks available.
What am I doing wrong here?

Please help! For the past few months our computer has been constantly popping up virus messages. Every few seconds we get a Windows antivirus message that says windows has detected spyware... As soon as I close this box it reappears. Every 2-3 minutes we get a Windows Security Alert stating Warning! Potential Spyware Operation! And sporatically we get a Trojan Found message from McAfee VirusScan although I can not delete the infected file.

I looked through some websites and messages on this board looking for help. I downloaded Super Antispyware Free Edition and ran that program. It deleted 450+ items but the computer is running no better and the messages are popping up just as often.

Moreover, I can not access my control panel through the start menu and can not add or remove programs.

I have seen some people post similar problems and they are told to run a Hijack report. I am not sure how to do that or what that means.

Can someone please advise? Thank you so much in advance for your help!!!

Answer:Solved: Windows antivirus, Trojan Found, Windows Security Alert

I have been working on a laptop windows XP, SP2 Sony Vaio for about 7 hours now.
Originally it had no functionality due to the Windows Recovery Virus, but having tackled that (using ComboFix) I have now found further problems. It was first apparent when Windows IE redirected and Google Chrome failed to load. Programs are failing to install properly and my memory sticks are infected every time I insert them into the laptop. However after following instructions for obtaining diagnostics using the following as a guide;
I would like some further guidance. Hopefully it should be a simple case but the sooner the better, until then I'll continue to see if I can do anything myself.

Thanks for your time.

Answer:Windows XP initially with Windows Recovery Virus, but subsequent infections found.

Well...I don't think that it's wise to use a malware topic for a specific person on a specific system...with perhaps other a "guide" for self-troubleshooting.

That said, I will move your topic to the Am I Infected forum where those experienced with malware situations...can advise/suggest.

There are numerous threads with the same issue online, but none of the solutions have worked for me, so I'm posting my own. I did contact Microsoft and Lenovo, but Lenovo is asking for money that I can't afford for tech support, so I'm hoping someone here can help me out.
Here's the situation:
I have a Lenovo Y510P that came with Windows 8.1. Half a year later, I'm sick of 8.1 and want to downgrade to Windows 7 (I know that simulation softwares like ClassicShell and such exist, but I would really rather just use Windows 7).
I downloaded a legitimate copy of Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and burned it onto a DVD disk.
I also downloaded all of the Windows 7 device drivers from this Lenovo site: Laptops and netbooks :: IdeaPad Y Series laptops :: IdeaPad Y510p Notebook - Lenovo Support (US)
^I had to specify the model number and OS, so I'm hoping I downloaded the correct drivers (all of the drivers are .exe format, is that what it's supposed to look like?)
I put all of the drivers onto a flash drive.
So, I am now equipped with a DVD with Windows 7 on it as well as a flash drive with all of the drivers on it.
I boot from the disk with the DVD and flash drive attached. Windows 7 installation begins and here I get the error, 'no device drivers found.' When I click 'browse', I see that the flash drive is recognized, but the files on it aren't.
What do you guys think the issue is??

Answer:'No device drivers found' error Windows 8.1 -> Windows 7 downgrade ins

Why would you do all that? Win7 is a driver-complete OS in the installer and via Windows Updates after install. Providing a bunch of drivers is from the XP era.

You only need the wireless driver in your backup so if it isn't provided during reinstall, you can install it to get online, enable Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3), then run all Important and Optional Windows Updates which should deliver most drivers. I would only import drivers still missing after all rounds of Windows Update are finished.

For a Win8 PC there are special steps that must be taken to disable Secure Boot and enable CSM or Legacy BIOS to Downgrade Windows 8 to Windows 7. Then when you boot the installer to do the Clean Install Windows 7 delete all partitions using the Drive Options shown in Steps 7 and 8, create and format new as you wish, install to first partition.

Other tips to get and keep a perfect Win7 install are same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

I have IE 8.0 and Netscape 8.1.3 on Windows XP (media ed). Both browsers have the same problem. Google searches' links are redirected. The first link clicked works, but subsequent ones are redirected. There is no other unusual activity. The redirection does not occur with a proxy server using google.

I have tried Norton, Trend Micro PC-cillin, Malware Bytes, and Spybot S&D. None of these detect any malware and none solve the problem. The DNS is automatically obtained.

I have looked through the forum, and there appears to be a number of people with similar problems, but the solutions offerred (if not too specific) have not worked.

TL;DR Ubuntu finds and uses a PCIe Wifi card just fine, but Windows can't find it. (Apparently needs USB header connection on MB?)

Long Version:
I use a PCIe card with the Intel Dual Band 8260AC chipset. The interesting part is that it has a USB 2.0 header on it that you're supposed to plug into a header on the MB. I had it installed this way previously and it was working fine til last night. I upgrade my CPU/MB/RAM, but the new MB is one USB 2.0 header short. The old MB had 3, all filled, but the new MB has only 2 USB 2.0 headers and 1 USB 3.0 header, so one device is left out. I decided to leave the wifi card plugged into the PCIe slot, but not plugged into a MB header and fire it up and make sure everything else was working.

No surprise, but I had no wifi. Figured maybe a new driver might solve the issue as it seems weird to need both a PCIe slot and a USB connection. So I dug out a USB wifi dongle I had and proceeded to update/install every possible driver, BIOS, etc. for the new MB and the wifi card. Still nothing.

Just out of curiosity I rebooted into Ubuntu (latest 17.10), and voila! Wifi worked! I removed the USB dongle just to make sure, but it definitely works just fine in Ubuntu, but Windows 10 cannot find the device. This is without the USB connection BTW. I've installed and reinstalled the driver, but no dice.

Any thoughts on getting Windows to recognize the card without the USB header connected? And any thoughts on why Ubuntu can find and use the device jus... Read more

Answer:Intel Dual-Band 8260AC PCIe not found in Win10, found in Ubuntu

Huh. So it seems Windows doesn't recognize it even with the USB header plugged in. This is annoying.

Hello, today when booted up my pc found an WMA file with title '$291Ae3' (without quotes), I played it and it's the Windows XP Welcome Song! I was wondering how did I get it instantly on my desktop? (Note that it's hidden file) I have no Windows XP, no virtualization, etc... My Windows 7 is original too. How did I get it then? I have no viruses too. I'm adding an attachment right now to prove it. If you want, I can add the song too.

P.S: I didn't download it either... Just found it on desktop!

Answer:Windows XP 'hidden song' found on Windows 7 desktop

Run a full scan with Malwarebytes anyway just to be sure.

Please if someone knows the answer to this question or if anyone has any experience in this problem. Can someone guide me - I am not much of an windows expert.

The problem started, with a never ending loop of restarts - after I put the computer to sleep mode. I regret doing that but it was no use since the problem started. So to do a quick fix I plugged in my Windows XP recovery disk and did the following - chkdsk /r, chkdsk, fixboot, fixmbr. And doing this - I made a temporary fix as I was able to boot into Windows XP but while booting I got this msg. Invalid boot.ini (Booting from C:/Windows)

So Next I tried using my Windows 7 recovery disk to do /fixboot, /fixmbr and when I was typing in /rebuildbcd this came out - No Windows Installation found (0 Windows Installation Found). So what must I do.?

Answer:Windows 7 Recovery - (Bootrec.exe 0 Windows Installations found)

I have Windows XP and Windows 7. My main OS that I use for my daily use is Windows 7 so it's recovery is vital to me.

So let me be more clear and precise to get more accurate help. I have 2 hard disks - one is of 250 Gb which has 4 partitions - C: D: E: F: (XP is in C:/ partition) and my second hard disk is of 1 TB and it has 3 Partitions - J: K: L: (Windows 7 is in J: ) it was set in dual boot setup. I was able to boot into XP because I used my Windows XP recovery disk to stop my computer from eternal rebooting loop. I used the fixboot command and others as mentioned above from the XP recovery console and temporarily fixed it as now I can boot into XP for the time being but I really need to use my Windows 7 because that is what I use for my daily work. Additional NOTES - Everytime I boot into Windows XP I get this message (Invalid boot.ini booting from C:/Windows) I know I can fix that by using bootcfg /rebuild but like I said, Windows 7 is what I need not Windows XP.

Hi and thanks for a very helpful forum. I read through all the malware removal instructions and have completed the step-by-step cleaning process (which seems to have worked) and now would like to confirm that my system is actually clean. Please see attached logs. Note: ComboFix did run but then froze during the "preparing log report" phase, so the attached ComboFix log is just the txt I found in the folder, not the full zip log. Also, RootRepeal failed to run at all (in normal or safe mode).

More infor about infection:

AVG found Crypt.AQLW but couldn't fully clean it
CPU & HD constantly at 100%, firewall had been disabled, internet traffic going mad & link redirection - immediately disconnected from internet
SUPERAntiSpyware found and cleaned Trojan.Agent/Gen-Loader
MalwareBytes Anti-Malware found and cleaned Exploit.Drop.CFG
ComboFix found and cleaned Rootkit.ZeroAccess ... but failed to generate full report. CPU dropped to normal after this!
RootRepeal failed to run
MGTools ran normally

Note: Before finding this forum, I also found advice to run Kaspersky TDSSKiller which I did, and it did find something, but didn't fix the issue. Log for that attached as well.

Answer:AVG found Crypt.AQLW and subsequent scans found Rootkit.ZeroAccess

More logs ...

Note: It says in the ComboFix.txt that AVG was still enabled (and it also gave me that warning message) but I had already used the recommended AVG removal tool and AVG was no longer installed or running at the time.

I've now updated my OS and all my software, have switched to MS Security Essentials and re-enabled firewall etc.

I ran into this problem a few hours ago and have been pulling my hear out. Autorepairs diagnose the problem as a problem with the partition table, but is unable to automatically fix it Ive gone into diskpart and confirmed that the partition was active. I reset the MBR thought bootrec,
bootsect.exe /nt60 all /force

Success on all three windows partitions manually creating the BCD initially works. I can create the store, but when i run bcdedit /import i get an error saying the store does not exist. I am desperately trying to avoid an os reinstall. I havent made any changes in the past few weeks so I dont know what could have caused this. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:bootmgr not found. bootrec /rebuildbcd and /fixboot give 'Element not found" error

I just solved my problem in another way.. non of the above solutions helped me.. kept saying in rebuildbcd, that the total ammount of windows installations found was: 0 I moved the sata cable to another port,.. that fixed the problem for me.. might help others Anders

i ran trojan remover on safe mode before i ran into this tech forum.

it found 2 malware infections. a trojan and a hacking system file.
they both were deleted by the trojan remover program. when i ran it again. nothing was found....but my main concern right now is that i was reading the log that i was given and it said something about some files being locked or in use. and im not sure if the computer is really finally out of harms way.

i do have a boot disc if i have to reformat. but i do run a store AND reformatting is such a huge hassle. i will do it if ihave to. but i would like to know if im still in harms way.

i ran the programs you guys asked and i will be attaching them here.
ALSO i will attach the trojan remover log..just so you see what im talking abt.

the computer started acting up, an the main that it was doing, was everytime i would turn the computer back on, the receipt printer was uninstalled. EVERYTIME.

thanks in advance.

Answer:possible hacking problem/malware found/trojan found....URGENT

I am currently reviewing your logfiles and will assist you shortly with instructions. Please be patient.

Meanwhile: Please subscribe to this thread if you have not done already and please don't do any other scans on your own and don't install or remove software. Thank you!

Hi all, I'm trying to do a vanilla installation of my Lenovo R61e 7650 and am experiencing something I've never seen before - I boot up XP, Press F6 and load the correct SATA drivers, Windows continues and successfully sees the hard drive, I tell it to format the hard drive but when it comes to asking for the SATA floppy disk again just before copying files (as normal), the setup suddenley ceases to see the floppy drive - game over.I decided to abandon the vanilla install and boot from the recovery partition but I don't get the To Start the Product Recovery program, press F11 message as instructed here: Does anyone have any ideas how to solve this?  I wanted to update the bios to see if that helped but have discovered you can't do it from a floppy ( CD only and I don't have a burner apart from on my laptop ) or directly from Windows on the laptop ( and the laptop is blank because I've formatted the drive during setup and I can't run the recovery partition). Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Bob

Background: clone the entire contents of the HDD to a SSD with the aim to replace the HDD, including the OS.

After having cloned a HDD with Windows 7 laptop to a SDD successfully, and replaced the HDD with the SDD, resulted in a smooth boot exactly the the same procedure failed with a 2007 laptop Vista 32bit.

Procedure with support of the guidelines of the SSD Vendor (Sandisk):
1. Initialize SSD

The BIOS indicates: no IDE device found.
When starting up, the message 'Operation System not found' appears

A major difference between the Win 7 and Vista laptop is the transfer mode of the (former) HDD and the new SSD: Win 7 had a SATA 300 installed, while the Vista has a SATA 150. The SSD is SATA 600.

What I did?
1) I created a ISO Vista 32bit file to get the laptop into the repair mode. This repair mode does not recognize a drive c: (checking out with the installed DOS).
So, i'm turning in circles. There is no way to get the internal SSD recognized.

2) When connecting the new SSD drive with USB to check the SSD status with the Computer Management/Disk Management tool, this is displayed:

I had Windows Defender installed under Win-7.  I did the upgrade to Windows-10 (straightforward).
However, when booting from cold, and after logging in, a message box has always appeared saying:
Windows Defender
This app has been turned off and isn't monitoring your computer.
If you're using another app to check for malicious or unwanted software, use Security and Maintenance to check that app's status.
I'm not using any other antivirus - just whatever came with Windows-10.  I originally thought that this would be some wrinkle that would get fixed by an update, but it's still there.
I've looked for ways to uninstall Windows Defender, but can't find a way to do it.  Typing "Defender" into the Search bar brings up an option saying "Windows Defender Desktop App", which when clicked also brings up the message box
mentioned above.
Is there any way to get rid of this message box?

I'm not sure when my computer was infected, but on Wednesday morning I logged into my email and saw that my eBay selling account had been hacked, and the hacker(s) made 55 transactions through my PayPal account (draining my existing PayPal funds, then my bank account, then my credit card...the latter two were attached to my PayPal account and those transactions were still pending). I made all the necessary phone calls, then changed my eBay and PayPal emails using a friend's computer (which had just been reformatted the day before and hadn't been online before I used it that day). I neglected to change the password for the email I had associated with my eBay account, and the next day, my eBay account had been hacked again, but eBay had unlinked my PayPal account due to the suspicious activity the day before so no transactions went through. I then changed all passwords again, including my email password. That seemed to do the trick. I got home today and got back on my computer, then ran a scan on avast, which found Win32-Spyware (I clicked "Move to Chest"). I also ran Malwarebytes and it found Codec-C.exe (Affiliate.Downloader), I quarantined this. And I'm not sure what else may be lurking on my computer, so I would be very grateful for any help.

I am trying to reinstall the original harddisk that my Toshiba Portege M400 146 came with, but the recovery program will not accept that there is a working harddisk in the computer.

I know the harddisk is working as i have used in other computers for experimenting with Windows 7 etc, and in the Toshiba computer windows 7 (still on the harddisk) will also start to boot, but them crash.

The error message is that there is no working harddisk and the following text can be found in 2 command windows both with the title:

I have also tried with other harddisks and the same problem persists.

Have anybody seen the same problem and found a solution?

Answer:Portege M400 - No HDD found during Recovery "no TMBR found"

Possibly the partitions which appears on the HDD are corrupt.
I could not install the OS on my notebook because the partitions were muddled up? I don?t know why but I couldn?t format the HDD using the recovery disk.

Finally I took the Windows XP disk and formatted the whole HDD and removed all partitions from the HDD. Then I have installed the Windows XP using Microsoft disk.
After that I took the recovery disk and installed the OS again using the Toshiba disk.
Then it was possible to reinstall the OS.

Note; The M400 seems to supports the RAID and therefore you will need to install the RAID driver firstly!

On a quick scan of Malwarebytes, it found item called trojan.downloader.

It was on C:\windows\system32\java.exe

I clicked to remove, rebooted as directed, reran scan and all clear.

Then I ran Superantisypware:

It found a malware trace in registry items:

This was also quarantined and then I restarted as directed and rescanned and all was clear.

I then ran an anti virus and that was clear.

I have windowsvista.

I am concerned that there still might be a problem on the system after seeing these two that were found.

Looking forward to your help.

Running scf has disclosed corrupt windows files that cannot be fixed and have been reported in the CBS.log. I dont have the ability to burn a windows 7 disk to replace the corrupted files. I was hoping I could fix these by upgrading to windows 10 although if someone and there awesome wizard skills could help me replace them like "to the power" did for this user here:
This all transpired because I want to play a game called Blade and Soul and my computer keeps crashing everytime I load it which is the only game iv ever had this happen with. It is very inconsistent and I can load it sometimes and play for days leaving it logged in after im done and leaving my pc on. However after a update I get kicked out again and the problem persists all over again when previous "fixes" such as uninstalling and reinstalling, disabling all none microsft drivers, disabling antivirus etc doesnt work anymore. After weeks of troubleshooting between myself and there tech support we have determined there anti cheat shield thing (gameguard) is conflicting with corrupted system files and is causing the crash for me and many users.
Below I have attached a Dxdiag txt file for my pc specs and my CBS Log from the errors.
Thanks for the help its much appreciated!

Answer:Will Windows 10 Fix Corrupt Windows 7 Files SFC found?

Hi jherring89 Upgrading to Windows 10 will replace your whole system, therefore, all the Windows system files as well. So to put it in your words, yes they'll be "repaired" (in fact, they'll be replaced by Windows 10 version of these files) if you upgrade to Windows 10. I've seen a bunch of users do that and they were all okay with it.

Since February 10th, and despite running cleaners and Tweaking, I've been unable to download and/or install any available update or even view the "real" Update home page.  My update page (snip attached) shows "upgrade to Windows 10" with a hyperlink to "show all available updates".  At the available updates page, whether I checkmark one, or three, or all 15 updates, there's a permanent notation stating I've already selected "1 optional update" (snip attached).
BTW, the setting has always been "check for updates but let me choose whether to download or install them", and many months ago I uninstalled and hid KB3035583 and KB2952664.
I found a hidden file in C drive named $WINDOWS.~BT, but it only had 73.4 MB (deleted it).  I ran Disk Cleanup, and then clicked on "View system files", and there it is...7.11 GB in "Windows Update Cleanup". Snip attached.
Does anyone know if I tell it to delete those system files if it really actually delete what's in this Update Cleanup?  And where is this Update Cleanup file?  I don't see it anywhere.

Answer:Found Windows 10 in Windows Update Cleanup

The windows update cleanup log is called Deepclean.log located at C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\DeepClean.log Any packages it finds for removal will show as such in the log:

after opening computer many folders open showing errors like "can't found windows", "can't found document & setting"

Answer:can't found windows

himal, if your quotes are correct, I smell a rat. "can't found windows" is incorrect English. M$ has been accused of lots of things, but incorrect English isn't one I've ever heard of.If you are indeed seeing that, I suspect a nasty (worm/trojan, virus). Be aware that a virus and a Trojan are similar, but not the same. Many times, an AV detects one it can't clean, other times, it gets missed entirely. If you need to clean one, Superantispyware (info only. I?m not paid for recommendation) can do the job and you can get it free @: other places. They have a Vista compatible version if needed. Dunno about Windows 7 or later. If it turns out that you need to use it, be sure to update Superantispyware prior to running and disable 'restore' (restart after cleaning) so the nasty doesn't get put back. They just released a new update recently and it changes all the time. Things are in a constant state of flux. The restore thing is critical. May not be your deal at all, but won't hurt anything to try.HTH.Ed in Texas.

I restarted my laptop and when it came back on the messages 'COMCTL32.dll not found' and 'MSVCR90.dll not found' came up when I tried to open different programmes. The messages say to reinstall the programmes to my computer. I tried looking up how to do this and I found that the easiest way to fix the problem is to just do a system restore. When I tried to do this it kept stopping and saying that the restore didn't complete because antivirus software was still installed. Hello all,

I've had this issue for quite some time now, it never really bothered me that much, but it is annoying, so I thought I'd give it a shot to see if anyone could help me out.

I've got 2 external USB drives, one on 2 Gb and one on 4 Gb.
the 2Gb drive is no issues at all. Works flawlessly.
The one on 4GB though is never found when I boot the computer. The drive does however have a powerswitch on it, so when I turn it off and on again, or if I replug the USB cable, the drive is found and works just as flawless as the first one.
I've checked disc management, but it does not show up there before I restart the drive.
A clean install of the entire computer didn't help either (not for the sake of this issue though, but it was a good check anyway).

The drive in question is of the brand Intenso.

Answer:USB disc not found at boot but is found when restarted

Hello and welcome arke could you be a little more specific with the system specs please - an Asus board but what model for example.
It is of interest because it could just be the driver for the USB ports that need updating again for an example.

The Intenso drive mate what model is it as it may need updating of some sort.

But for starters anyway you could run these if you haven't already. < use the /f option in Option 2 ifnecessary

Last night was using Auslogics to defrag an external WD 1.5TB BU drive... 2 hours in we had a power loss...lights and TV went out and came back on. The laptop that was running the Auslogics had a batt, but the external drive lost power in the middle of the defrag process. Turned everything off for the night.

This morning ran chkdsk on the external (always run from cmd but for some reason today ran from inside Win7 Admin) and got the reply that errors were found (duh) and that a FOUND folder was created. I am familiar with this and usually find them in the root. Only I can't find the FOUND folder anywhere! Was hoping to get an idea of what files are toast!

Anyone know where W7 might have stuck it? I have hidden files enabled by default and went a step further to enable hidden system files, but it's not on the external drive nor on C root.

Ideas? Thanks!

For anyone who might find this post later while searching for a similar problem, I thought I'd write a followup of what I did, though I have no real answers...

The FOUND folder def didn't get created or Windows slipped it into a parallel dimension. I read afterward that Auslogics defrag won't lose data in a power outage, but don't know if that refers to the machine Auslogics is installed on running an internal operation, or to Auslogics performing defrag on an external drive that loses power. Hi, have you run chkdsk or scandisk recently or had a bad shutdown, chk files are usualy lost file fragments that are converted to .chk files. Usually .chk files are nothing to worry about and can be safely deleted.

Hello. I recently had a hard drive issue with my laptop (Sony Vaio PCG-3B2L), so I got a new hard drive, re-installed Windows 7 build 6.1.7600 32 bit, and a DAY after this happened, I was playing a Sega Genesis emulator (Fuzion) with Sonic & Knuckles, along with Cabal Online, which had been freezing up from time to time so I had to reboot. However, whenever I was just playing S&K, the computer BSOD, my hard drive was reformatted, and now I can't partition my hard drive! Whenever I start my computer up, it says, "Operating System not found. Press any key to continue..." and whenever I put in my Windows 7 DVD, it won't recognize any partitions or allow me to create a new one, even when I click load drivers. I know there wasn't that much on this new hard drive, but I really need some help here, as I'm totally lost as to what happened. I cannot boot into BIOS, Startup Repair doesn't work, and I seem to have hit a dead end! The hard drive was working just fine and it's only 4 days old! Any help here?

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo

I purchased a new model of Seiko Smart Label Printer and installed it without any problem using the manufacturer's CD. The printer works fine but Windows XP keeps popping up messages to say it has detected new hardware and when I delete them it says that there has been a problem installing the hardware, which is nuts. How do I stop Windows XP from being a damned nuisance ?

Answer:Found new hardware in Windows XP

Good Morning baalsepa, if you remove the device physically (unplug it) does the message still appear.
Try booting a couple of times with it removed then refit it and see if it can sort itself out.

Hi. My puter reboots randomly. After restarting I send report to Microsoft.
After restarting this threads Title comes up. MS says it's driver software but for what? I tried CD for sound and mouse to no avail. Printer is off.
Can I go someplace on net to get this necessary software?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Upgraded from XP (using easy file transfer)to windows 7. Nothing on USB ports works. Device Mgr shows all eight USB Root Hubs have a yellow mark against them and Windows advises drivers are latest. However Device manager says drivers not installed code 39I have tried disabling, uninstalling (inc Safe mode)and Windows picks them up on reboot but all fail again.Via site does not address the issue and contacting them just refers one to the site.Bios is Phoenix Award. Motherboard AsusPV5D2-MX.Chipset VIA P4M890 + VT8237AI had expected Windows just to pick the USB hubs up but as it stands none of my peripherals on 8 ubs hubs will work. I have withdrawn all tiems and reinput in different slots but no joyHelp please!

Answer:USB Controllers not found Windows 7

I would look up your motherboard details and visit the makers website and download the drivers from there ,put them on your desktop and right click the file and select run in compatability mode for ,and select (for example windows XP) .this should get them up and running .Have you updated windows via windows update yet ,I would have thought you would have found some drivers that way .PS: 32bit or 64.

I have an HP Color LaserJet 2600n and had to get the software online at HP website when we bought the Windows 7 64 bit sp1 (was on XP) and now I don't have HP toolbox to clean and calibrate. HP is absolutely no help at all and I thought maybe someone on this forum had found a download or a fix.

Answer:HP Toolbox can't be found in Windows 7

I know I've seen posts on bootable cd's before, but don't have time to find the subject post. Bart's PE is a program designed to create a bootable Windows cd-rom. Nicely customizable as well to include network support among a lot of other things. Most other bootable cd's I've seen are actually Linux kernels. This is a true Windows boot cd.

Answer:Bootable windows CD found here

Didnt realize PE was released thanx
Bart's has got lots of other great info as well
