New WIN 10 Install on new SAMSUNG EVO 250GB SSD

Question: New WIN 10 Install on new SAMSUNG EVO 250GB SSD

This is just what is says. A fresh win 10 install on a new SSD. Do not explain to me about cloning.

To date I've upgraded the BIOS (UEFI) on a ASUS P67 Performance Gen3 motherboard. I've changed the SATA Mode to AHCI. I can see the drive in the BIOS.

The Windows installer the page where it lists the drive partitions. I only see one drive partio

Drive 0 Partition 1 239.9GB 232.8 GB Primary

I get the error
Windows can't be installed on drive 0 particion 1. (Show Detailes)

The New button is greyed out and when I select next I get

We couldn't create a new partition or locate an existing one. For more information, see the Setup log files.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello hiltonr92 and welcome to the forums. See if this will help https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/1...n-install.html

Are you installed in UEFI Mode? If so, when you boot from the USB drive use the entry that says UEFI and the name of your USB. If not in UEFI, boot from the name of your USB without UEFI in front of it. Delete all partitions on the drive until it says unallocated and then click the 'NEW" button. The installer will create all the necessary partitions. I hope that helps.

has anyone installed a Samsung 850 EVO in a dell 3542. ive seen older posts on net where people were unsuccessful. going crazy researching this drive. and if u did get it installed. was it WOW thats so much faster?

Answer:anyone install samsung 850 evo 250gb in 3542 laptop?

Whether you can use one depends on which version of the system you have.
One version has a Celeron CPU (N30xx) and an embedded 32G eMMC drive - this one CANNOT  be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
The higher line model has an i3 CPU and comes with a 500 G hard drive.  That model CAN be upgraded to a 2.5" EVO SSD.
Yes, the EVO will be immensely faster than a conventional hard drive.

Hi, I bough a 250 GB Samsung SSD EVO 850.I got a Lenovo X201 computer. My SSD is not recognized by the MAGICIAN Samsung programso i cannot clone my HDD to my Samsung SSD. Please HELP me !!!

Answer:Samsung SSD 850 250GB not recognized by Lenovo X201 Samsung Magician Program

Hi, nocoin, and welcomeIs the SSD installed into the main bay of laptop or external USB box?Samsung Magician application is a tool not for cloning operation. Use Samsung Data Migration Software intead. It's a simple, free of charge, reduction of the Acronis True Image Home application. Then, after installing SSD into the laptop, use Magician app for disk management. Also, you might use another software for the cloning:Clonezilla, Macrium. As well Acronis ATIH full version (I'm not sure whether trial version supports entire drive cloning).

I've been looking at some of the features in Samsung Magician, and ran the Benchmark test twice. Both times I got very high scores, above the max listed in the program for all 4 tests. I have the drive set to MAXIMUM RELIABILITY. Just wondering about the scores reliability.

Scores in Parentheses are Samsung 's listed maximum high:

Sequential Read
549 mb (540)
Seq write
532mb (520)
Random read
97442 (97000)
Random write
70189 (66000)

Answer:Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250gb

Benchmarks are artificial at best [and a benchmark from the mfg is tailored to that particular piece of hardware] I would think you would get different results using a another benchmark program such as ATTO.

In short do not put too much emphasis on any given benchmark. Modern ssd drives are reliable and it should last for quite a while so I would not worry about the drive.

Hi,

Just purchased a new Samsung SP2514 250 gig hdd and XP can only see 32239mb.

Tried using samsung's drive overlay to install xp, but gave up + uninstalled it -(the drive overlay).

I booted from the Xp cd + installed but XP only sees 32....gig's.

I have enabled big LBA by using EnableBigLba from www.48bitlba.com to no avail.

From searching through the forums, I see that a BIOS update may be necessary.

Do I also need to update my motherboard + chipset?

If so, are reliable updates available free on the net?

Any step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx in advance

Hi guys,

I was going to do clean install Windows 10 but there was an issue of GPT so I decided to convert into MBR. I didnt selected the volume by mistake and clean the whole disk.

Before there was 2 partitions

C: 150GB
D: 88GB

Now there is only 1 partition

C: 238GB

I have very important data on D drive and I am very confused right now.

Moreover, its still GPT and I also checked on Lupu Linux maybe if its on RAW but its not connecting through usb case.

Regards.

Hello and thank you in advance for your help!

I bought a new Samsung 850 EVO 250GB for my old aging computer and this happened:

1. Cloned my old c: drive to the ssd, replaced it and everything went fine for a while until i started getting an infinite loop.
Windows wouldn't boot. Did a registry recovery via command line but my windows installation went to hell to forcing me to reinstall.

2. From this point everything went to hell, and after multiple windows reinstalls here's some of what happens:
- Windows installs but errors immediately follows;
- Some windows updates install but eventually start failing until windows update fails completely;
- Windows installs, updates install but eventually windows fails to load and enters repair mode claiming startup errors;
- Programs stop working for no apparent reason, some examples: Browsers won't run, file associations disappear (class registration errors), explorer;
- Driver problems with peripherals,
- File system corruption errors;
- I got situations where the computer would get stuck in a reboot/system restore/repair loop
- Automatic and manual restore points disappear making it impossible to restore to an earlier time;
- Changing the sata mode to IDE instead of AHCI seems to solve some of these issues but eventually the system locks up, the hdd light stays on, and after a reset the ssd doesn?t get recognized at startup. I have to power off to get it back but it?s the same all over again.

I replaced a Kingston 128GB SSD with a Samsung EVO 250GB SSD. Cloned Kingston SSD to new Samsung SSD using Acronis True Image.

Now, when I boot, it sits there for 30 seconds flashing the hard drive light blinking then proceeds to boot normally. All BIOS settings are default.

Hardware details in Specs.

Booting from the 128GB SSD was fine, no obvious delays.

Any idea what might be causing this? Could the new SSD be defective?

Answer:30 second boot delay with new 250GB Samsung SSD

Hey Rich,

Since it's for 30 seconds, it sounds like the time it waits before the default OS runs automatically. You might check to see if that may be it.

:hyper

My sons got me a Samsung 840 EVO SSD for my birthday . . . and it ROCKS! (That's right . . . I be the Dad . . . :major). Never used an SSD before and been wanting to try one out but I couldn't justify the expense at this time.

I was able to clone my existing HDD to the SSD with no trouble. The speed of this thing is amazing all by itself, but Samsung has a RAPID (Real-time Accelerated Processing of I/O Data) setting in its provided software that allows the use of up to one gigabyte of system RAM to use as a high-speed cache. This seems to more than double the sequential read and write of the SSD. I'm astonished! So far, so good.

On to my question . . . I've been putting various OS folders on my old HDD (all the Library files; Documents, Videos, Pictures, Downloads, etc.) but I was wondering if anyone could suggest any other files that would be wise to move from the SSD to my regular platter drive? I've researched this issue, and there is so much contradictory information out there I'm not sure how to proceed . . . so I came home to MG to ask

Thanks

Answer:Samsung 840 EVO 250GB Solid State Drive

I think I answered at least one of my own questions - It's apparently not wise to move the AppData folder to another drive besides the OS drive. I can't really think of any other caches or folders that would make sense to move.

I've moved I.E. temp files, all my document Libraries, and put a good few of my most used utility programs on my HDD. This seems to be taking some of the pressure off the SDD. I've had it installed and running since May 27th and have only written .17 TB to it. I intend to keep the games I am currently playing on the SSD. Though, from the testing I've seen done on this drive, longevity doesn't seem to be an issue with this model.

Ran another performance test on the drive after a reboot, and the Random Write (IOPS) results are insane! Top is the SSD of course, and I ran a comparison test on the 500GB Seagate Barracuda drive that had been my OS drive. SSD FTW!

Hello,

I have the following:

- Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1
- Intel i7-5820K Extreme Hex Core CPU Processor (3.30GHz, 15MB Cache, 28 Lanes)
- Samsung 950 PRO NVMe M.2 256 GB Solid State Drive
- Asus STRIX GTX970-DC2OC-4GD5 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 Graphics Card

I have only the Asus Graphics Card in the PCIEX16_1 which is running at PCI-E 3.0 16x as expected. I have removed the USB3.1 card that comes with this motherboard for testing purposes so I literally only have the Graphics card installed.

The board has an onBoard M.2 x4 Rev 3 connector which the Samsung 950 PRO is installed into.

I believe this connector should allow 32Gb/sec bandwidth (since it uses PCI-E 3.0 x 4) - please note there is also an optional card where you can add the M.2 (or a second M.2) into a PCI Express slot - I'm NOT using this card, just the onBoard connector.

Samsung Magician says the following:
- Controller: Samsung NVMe Controller (Driver Ver: 1.4.17)
- PCIe Slot: PCI Express Root Port 1 - 2F03
> Link Speed Cur: 4Gbps, Max: 8Gbps
> Link Width Cur: x4, Max: x4
> Bandwidth Cur: 16Gbps, Max: 32Gbps

The performance data also suggests this - the read speed should be a lot higher but seems to be reduced, whereas write speed which is a lower number is over the actual "Upto Speed".

It appears as if my SSD is running at PCI-E 2.0 speeds? The bandwidth is being throttled. Any ideas how I make it go to 32Gbps instead of 16Gbps?

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Asus X99-Deluxe/U3.1 + Samsung 950 Pro (250GB) M.2 Speed Issues?

Believe it or not, I've just stumbled across the solution.

I am using high FSB Corsair Dominator sticks and had them using an XMP (Extreme Memory Profile) - essentially my memory was overclocked.

I thought I'd try running in "normal" mode ie. stock settings and when I checked, the Samsung Magician is now showing as 32Gbps!!

The motherboard must sacrifice something to run the Memory at the higher clock speed which means it can't run the M.2 at PCI-E 3 and has to drop it to PCI-E 2.

Worth baring in mind for anyone else trying to achieve these elusive 32Gbps speeds

Answer:How to install Everything in new upgraded 750gb hdd from 250gb

The recovery discs that come with preloaded systems usually require the HD currently in the machine to be exactly the same as the one that was in the unit when sold. I would contact the maker or check their online support. Perhaps you can get a discounted upgrade to Windows 7. Or you may be able to install Windows 7 for evaluation purposes using an install image. You may want to check out Windows 7 Help Forums for guidance. The evaluation period is plenty of time to determine everything works.

This is my first post on this web site. I certainly not a guru and could use some help of this is the way you ask for it. At 78 I am kind of slow and methodical but am willing to follow detailed instructions as to how to keep my old pc going.

The Windows community has convinced me to do a clean install of Windows 7 on a new 250GB SSD that is replacing my HDD. The C: HDD is getting errors when I use Seagate's SeaTools programs and my PC has really slowed down to a crawl. in trying to repair my C: HDD I have run System File Checker multiple times (no Problems). Checkdisk multiple times /f/r options. it only shows errors on stage 5 of 5 free space verification and correcting errors in the volume bitmap.
My latest Windows Backup on a flash drive and a Windows System image on the External HDD are considered not reliable by the community and they strongly recommend a clean install of Windows 7
I have the WIN 7 DVD with product key that I purchased when I went from XP to Win 7. I have the other SW apps product DVDs. Although I have a Windows Backup and a Windows 7 System Image I have been told, and I believe, that this would be dangerous to use vs doing a clean install. Now that I am convinced to do just that I want to be pro-active in making sure that I do it right.
Is there a step by step process documented anywhere that will take me through this install. I need to save years of data from all of my pc applications, e.g., Quicken, Word, Excel, Adobe, email, etc.

Hi Roger, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The process of clean installing and restoring your data is quite straight forward. You can use Windows Easy Transfer (WET) to backup your personal data, all your documents, images and such, then clean install and finally retrieve the backed up data again using WET.Step 1: Use WET to transfer your settings and data to an external hard disk or USB drive
Step 2: Clean install Windows 7 on your new SSD
Step 3: Use WET to restore your settings and data
Tutorials:Windows Easy Transfer - Transfer To & From Computers
Clean Install Windows 7
If you have any questions or issues either with WET or clean install, please post your questions in respective tutorial thread. Any other concerns, please post here or start a new thread in an appropriate section of our forums.

Hello
My laptop has two regular harddrives, one of which I rarely use. So I am thinking to transfer the files and documents that I don't regularly access to the unused harddrive and transfer the OS and programs to a 250 gb SSD that can be installed internally.

I have been looking online, but it seems that the cost of a 250gb ssd may not be low enough for my tastes. I am wondering if anyone knows what brands or models I should be focusing on and whether anyone is aware of very good deals.

I have a Gateway NX860X laptop here and the HD crashed. So I grabbed a brand new 250gb SATA drive, formatted it NTFS thru the USB port on a different PC, and popped it in the laptop. XP setup didn't see the drive (BIOS does) so I hooked up a USB floppy drive, created an 'F6' SATA driver disk for the Intel ICH7 Mobile chipset, and restarted the XP setup. This time I pressed F6 at the appropriate moment, loaded the drivers from the floppy as I've done dozens of times on other PCs, and XP setup saw the drive and let me format it again. But right after the format, when setup says "Checking Drive C:...." and then says "Creating list of files to be copied" it stops, and goes to a screen that says "Insert Intel Storage Matrix Manager in Drive A: - Press Enter When Ready". But the thing is, the disk is in the drive already, and pressing Enter does nothing - the floppy drive doesn't spin up, removing the disk does nothing, different disks do nothing. It's like the floppy drive itself disappears at this point, and the XP install is basically impossible.
HELP!!!!

(Just for kicks, I installed Windows 7 w/o a hitch; I then reformatted the drive and installed Vista just to see what would happen; both Vista and W7 install fine like I figured they would, but XP craps out right before the file copy part of setup is supposed to start)

Hi folks, I bought ThinkPad R61 3 years ago and it has been working perfectly. Last week however I dropped it down and as a result the original HDD is damaged. So I have bought new hard drive - SEAGATE 250GB SATA2/8MB 9.5mm and it turned out that I cannot install Windows XP (neither SP2 nor SP3) on it.The message from the Windows setup is: ?Setup did not find any hard disk drive installed in your computer.? Well, of course before the installation I have partitioned the hard drive (with Partition Magic) ? I have created primary drive, activated it, then I have formatted it.I tried everything I could think of but the result is the same ? Windows XP setup does not recognize the hard drive :-(Unfortunately I do not have recovery disks. Can anybody help me with advice how to get rid of this situation and install the Windows XP on the new SEAGATE drive? Thanks and best regards,Lyubomir

Hi folks,

I recently bought a new Hitachi 250GB SATA hard drive and created one primary partition of full size using Partition Magic on a boot disk. I then installed windows xp on it (no service packs). Straight after install I noticed it showed as a 232GB drive (fair enough) but also said around 113GB of space had been used.

I have now installed some more applications and the total file size of everything on the drive totals 24.1GB. My C drive shows 134GB used with 98.3GB free.

I guess it's something to do with partitioning larger HD's but I'm new to all that so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Hi, I want to buy a new hard drive for my desktop PC, and I was wondering if the western digital black 250GB hard drive or western digital enterprise 250GB hard drive would work better for such a PC. Both of the HDDs I mentioned are SATA, in case you're wondering.

Hi Guys,

Just bought a new Samsung 840 evo 250gb SSD. Burned off a new copy of 8.1 from the MS VLSC site and thought I would install it. No such luck.

My current equipment:
Z77X-UD3H gigabyte board
i5 2400
120gb mushkin SSD
12gb ram
Plus other HDDs etc

Now I installed win 8 a while back on this mushkin SSD without issue and upgraded to 8.1

The error I get is http://joeyfoo.files.wordpress.com/2012/06/win8drivererror.jpg that when I boot from the DVD with 8.1 on and go to install.

I have:
Checked SATA settings in BIOS
Formatted the new SSD every which way
Put all motherboard drivers, (extracted and zipped) onto a few externals to pickup during install
Tried to find samsung ssd drivers.
re-burned the 8.1 disk and even tried a win8

All with no luck. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance,
James

how to install a Samsung evo 950 pro m.2 ssd on a gigabyte gaming g5 motherboard?
I have installed it into the m.2 slot, but the computer is not recognising that it is there and I have no idea how to fix it as there are no options in the bios to help configure it.

Answer:how to install a samsung evo 950 pro m.2 ssd?

I've never used an m.2 slot board, but for normal SATA ports, the BIOS has (should) be set to AHCI mode for SSD's to work properly.

Hi Everyone. I purchased a Thinkpad P-50 with a i7-6700HQ, 16G RAM, 4K screen, NVIDIA QUADRO M1000M, WIN 10 Home, and a 500GB HDD. I want to install a Samsung 950 PRO SSD M.2 NVME with 512 GB to be the system/windows boot and keep the HDD for data. I allready purchased the 950 PRO and the M.2 tray to do this. This is what I know so far: 1) I have to install the 950 PRO with the tray inside the P-50, 2) I have to install the Samsung controller driver, 3) I have (or can) to clone the HDD content onto the 950 PRO using the Macrium Reflect Free software, 4) Set the BIOS to boot from 950 PRO, and that's it....I know that can always make a clean install of the Windows 10 if something gets wrong. I would like to know if you guys think that this is a right procedure?  Can I just clone the entire HDD to the 950 PRO?  Am I forgetting something? Thank you very much!

I was using my old Samsung printer with a computer that had Windows XP. The original disk was designed for Windows 2000 but I managed to download a driver file from the internet. It is called the Smartjet SF-4300C/4500(C) It is both a printer and fax but I only want to use the printer.
When I switched to a replacement computer I assumed it would work as the new operating system is also Windows XP and it is a 32-bit computer.
I copied the printer-driver files onto a USB stick and tried to install but it wouldn't work. Computer Printer Wizard didn't like or recognize it. Wizard also could not find compatible driver on the internet.
With help, I found the compatible driver still on the internet and downloaded it, But every time you tell the computer to iustall it , it reports "driver was not installed".
Funnily enough, when I look in the computer's logbook under System Restore, it says the software has been installed about six times now. But it won't bloody work.
I have tried looking on the Samsung website and they have withdrawn support for all but their laser printers now.
Was I wrong to connect the printer before installing the software? or trying to anyway?
I like the printer as it is sturdy and does not fall apart when subjected to heavy work-loads or stupid users.

Hi, I have a ssd samsung 830 128gb bought from Amazon, just the drive without any kit along with it. I believe this ssd is 7mm thick, which is perhaps thinner than traditional hard drive for T400. What should I do to install this ssd fit perfectly in the slot, I'm totally new to this kind of thing. If anything I need to buy in order to install this ssd in, please give me a link, truthly appreciated

Answer:install samsung 830 in T400, what should I do

Hello!

Is it safe to say that you're not replacing your HDD only adding a second one? If so, you'd need to use this: ThinkPad Serial ATA Hard Drive Bay Adapter III

It will take up the slot your optical drive currently occupies.

I hope that helps!

when I try to install an app on my Samsung laptop my device field shows..no carrier Samsung sch-1545 and Verizon wireless sch-1545...the wireless is my cell and the app has installed on my cell. I can install on no carrier sch 1545 and it tells me it is installed but it is not on my laptop. where did it install? I don't know how to find my laptop device name and how to get it to show on the screen when I am installing apps. thank you

Answer:cannot install app on my samsung laptop

Don't understand what you're saying, The sch-1545 is a Samsung Galaxy S4 cell phone using Verizon as the carrier. It runs the Android OS and Android apps can NOT be installed on a laptop running MS Windows 8.

To find apps installed in Win8, you look through the list of Apps by name and then click the tile for the app that you just installed.

Hi all,
I'm coming to you with my problem.
I had W8.1 on my laptop. I finally decided few days ago to upgrade to W10.
Upgrade went "well" matter of speaking, because everything was very slow and buggy.
So i've decided to reinstall on clean hard drive.
This is when all went wrong.
I have downloaded on usb stick w10 install, hdd is displayed as clean and unallocated. But when i push the install, at the end the laptop loop on the boot and does nothing.
In fact, on this laptop, i've got a msata 7.5 Go ssd. The purpose of this one is for expresscache.
But during the w10 installation, Windows create mbr on ssd and put data on the hdd.
It seems like this is the issue. But i don't know how to use only the hdd to have all the differents partitions (mbr etc)
PS: i'm able to install ubuntu instead, but it is not what i want with this laptop.
Does anyone have an idea for me to deal with this?
I hope my problem is clear. If not, don't hesitate to ask more info.
Thanks a lot in advance.

I'm having a hard time trying to install Win 7 Ent on a Samsung NP900X3A with an SSD. I tried the flash drive method, DVD's and also the factory recovery disc without any luck.

I can get it to boot and pass the Install window, but once it's there, I'm stuck at the part where it ask what disk and partition to install. I've used GregRocker's suggestions to prep the SSD but, still no luck. Any other help will be highly appreciated. TIA

Answer:Can't install Win7 Ent on Samsung NP900X3A with 128 SSD

Check to see if you have a UEFI BIOS as you'll need to take special steps to Install Win7 64 bit if so: UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums

If this doesn't apply then reset your BIOS to defaults. While in BIOS setup set the SATA controller to AHCI first to try install, then IDE if that fails.

Remove all but 2gb of RAM to try install.

Where did you get Win7? DId you burn the DVD yourself?

Hello 7forumteam,

I didn't tought that this things can happen to me , but it seems that I need your help

Recently I purchased a new SSD, the all famous 850 PRO SSD ... but as soon as installed Windows on it, got several crashes.

I couldn't install successfully all windows updates, because some of them failed and after that some got corrupted, tried to repair with all available tools, but still left 1-2 updates ... anyway, pointed my hand on RAPID because of accessing the memory and this was a possible reason, because some stability was reached after it was disabled( and disabled stay after my last successfully install of windows)

Anyway, because of those not sucessfully updates, started from scratch again with a new windows install, but didn't installed at all the samsung magician latest version till I was able to do a complet install + all updates ... installed the samsung magician and even without rapid mode I get BSOD.

Don't know what to say, but I want to remind you that I hadn't any issue in last 4 years with my system, no BSOD , no memory issue, my last windows install was 3 years ago ...

I don't know which hw or driver is conflicting with the SSD, so I'm posting my minidumps files.

Hope to get this fixed otherwise I will RMA this SSD back to samsung.

I have just purchased the new samsung 950 Pro 256gb NVMe SSD M2.
I can't install windows 7 onto it.
My System is Asrock Z97Extreme6, 32gb Ram i7 CPU.
The Firmware on the m/b has been upgraded to the latest version.
I have a Copy of Windows 7 Ultimate x64 which has all the latest Updates Slipstreamed into it.
I've Tried 2 methods of install, one from usb flash drive and one from DVD.
That copy until now has worked Flawlessly with my previous hardware setup, that was with the 850 ssd.
That version still works on any other PC.
During the Install of windows it sees the 950 Pro and the Installation continues until the first reboot.
At this point it Freezes ( where the four colored windows swirl around ).
It appears that nothing I do can fix that problem, not even system repair.
However I have One Version of Windows that will work, that is Windows 7 Pro OEM x64 on DVD, Original Microsoft .
Can anyone help.

Answer:Samsung 950PRO Can't install Windows 7

So if you have a dvd that will work, what`s the problem ?

If you want a dvd with Service Pack 1 then download it from here.

Microsoft DigitalRiver Mirror

Your dvd of Ultimate is more then likely counterfeit, there is no reason to slipstream updates into the installer.

i thought that the cause for that is because i still have the kingstone drive plugged in, and there is conflict between those, but even when i unplugged the kingstone drive and execute windows installation, same thing is happen.

i tried to change order of booting from the pc setup and again nothing is chagne (samsung drive is shown in the pc setup and also when i load windows from the kingstone drive)
i also tried to version of windows setup iso which are used from Disk on Key "burned" with rufus latest version.

I'm trying to get everything right this time. I have been doing a clean install of windows 8.1. So far so good thanks to your help. Now I've got all the motherboard, Sound card, Video Card, Asrock, drivers installed from disk and updated. I've gone through the windows update. All cool. Made a restore point, and Now just installed Eset Smart Security 7. Now I see that I haven't installed Samsung Digital Magician that came with the SSD 840 EVO. Should I install this now before I go any further? I know that I installed it on my first complete install in April, but of course I screwed up with a refresh a few days ago, then finally I just did a clean install last night of Windows 8.1. My next step was to Install Acronis and slowly adding all my software to get me going again.

Answer:Samsung Digital Magician for 840 EVO when to install?

It's not required but sort of nice to have. Install it at any time.

I installed it when I first added my Samsung SDD 840 EVO 250GB then uninstalled it once everything was running good. I reinstalled it again a few weeks back to check something and decided to leave it installed. Just ran it now and it updated to ver 4.4.No need to allow it to auto-start though. Just delete the link in your Startup folder once it's installed.

Hi Davee3, welcome to tenforums I had a similar issue with a Samsung EVO 128G SSD. No matter what I tried the migration software/function would not work. I ended up taking the existing SSD (Crucial 64G) with W10 on it out of the computer, installed the new SSD, booted from install media (W10 iso on a USB or cd) chose repair, and then restored with a backup/image I had (from my internal backup HDD) to the new SSD.

This was a workaround for me to have all things remain, and not start over with a clean install. I've actually done this a couple times, once with Win7, and once with W10. Both times went without issues, except on Win7 I had to boot from install media and repair start to get it to boot from the new SSD.

I have a very sturdy and reliable old Samsung Smartjet printer/fax that I'm reluctant to chuck away. It worked with Windows ME. Now I've got a computer with Windows XP it won't install, although I have the printer driver disc and I have got New Hardware Wizard. The Wizard keeps telling me (a) the printer is not digitally signed, (b) the computer doesn't recognize what's on the printer driver disc as relevant to my hardware, (c) I need to put in the original Windows XP disc, which I havn't got. Is this a sign that my XP is defective (it's a secondhand) or just that my printer is too old and has to be sent to the dump? There are no drivers listed anywhere for Samsung Smartjet Full Colour Multifunction. It hasn't got any mumbers that I can find but it's been far more reliable than any other printer. I am still hoping to find somewhere, a magical update file or something that would adapt the old driver for Windows XP. I thought that Windows XP would do anything that the older versions would do?

Answer:How do I install the latest Samsung SSD firmware?

Couple of things you can try.
- Move the DXM04B0Q folder to your desktop. Does the Samsung Magician see it?
- If still no joy, try letting the Magician download the firmware. Verify it downloaded the correct version.

Existing Setup
Abit IN9 32-Max, 2gig OCZ, E6300, WD 250g, Win7 v7264 x32
NO issues, everything runs fine.

Removed WD 250g and switched to Samsung F1 Spinpoint 750g drive (which is essentially my old gamming system running on xp).

Cannot install Win7, regardless of version, locks halfway through install. Hard reset and Drive is no longer detected.

I experienced this same issue back when I had the gaming system and the only way to fix it was to disable Command Qeueing ( which was recommended by users with same issue ). The problem seems to be with the nvidia chipset ( in this case 6) not playing nice with some Samsung drives. However, I was able to install XP and of course disable this option. PC then ran fine for a year, no lockups.

Basically same system, but will not allow Win7 to install. Ive tried different sata ports, different partitions, different win7 versions, different bios settings... Always locks halfway through.

I use to have Kies on my previous pc but it 'died' on me. As the pc was totally dead I couldn't even search for assistance from TSG or any other like you.
So I took it to 'Curries PC world' expecting to shell out to them to fix it, honestly I was quite willing to pay to get back online. Like so many things we attach our selves to, we don't miss it until it's gone. I was gutted to be told there isn't a damn thing that can be done to retrieve the info, personal stuff like addresses, phone numbers and a whole stack of info. The other thing was, when at one point I downloaded Kies, I couldn't make either of my mobiles to connect. What on earth am I doing wrong
Regarding the above, I would really like to hear from anyone who can furnish me with some advice, like if it is possible to remove a hard disk or what ever. I have a new lap top now so it's only the info, not to use it.

The above leads me onto another problem. I had Samsung Kies installed on my old machine, now though I am trying to install it again, I really do need it for photographic records. The snag is, for the life of me I can't recall who I used before,(that last sentence makes no sense does it), but I'm having problems and had to scan twice, to remove, do they call it 'Malware', something that my internet security found, quarantined and advised me that it wasn't good.

So I would be eternally grateful if first, you can advise me what is caus... Read more

Do my Optiplex 3050 MFF support nvme drive such as 960 pro? and what part do I need to mount this thing in to my board? I disassembled my Optiplex, but I can't see where to put screw to mount m.2 2280 drive.

Answer:Install Samsung 960 pro with Optiplex 3050 MFF

Hi Krit1412,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
We have gone through the model and checked the system supports NVMe standard M.2 cards hence it also supports 960 pro card.
But to answer your question the screw should be inserted as given in the picture which is attached .
The second image refers where the screw needs to be mounted.
If you still have any doubts or issues mounting the screw please take a picture where you are installing the card so that we can help you better.

Hello,
On this link for a Samsung laser printer, they have the Samsung universal printer driver that is supposed to work with all Samsung printers. Click the driver tab. You want to download the UPD that is 20.66MB, not the PS universal printer driver. There is also a guide for the universal printer driver which might help. Good luck.

Okay, I'll try to make this a short, but clears as I can. It's kind of crazy, so hang in there.

Currently I run a Samsung XP941 128G M.2 drive in my Asus X99-A w/Intel 5820K, 16GB G.Skill 2400 DDR4 and Windows 7 Home. I decided I wanted to upgrade to the new Samsung 950 NVMe M.2. After realizing I couldn't back up and restore on the drive as W7 has no drivers for it, I got a PCIe card, loaded the Samsung NVMe drivers and cloned the XP941 to the 950 Pro using Easeus and had it optimize for SSD. I was able to boot from the new SSD, but then things started to go wrong over the next few hours. First I noticed that I lost all Chrome setting and extensions and Norton Security needed to be removed and reinstalled. Then I noticed I lost the ability to do a Windows update after the first successful attempt it decided to stop. I then found that my Pinnacle Studio 18 would load and then hang. Last was my Asus systemboard apps (AI Suite III) wouldn't load and I had to remove them.

After all that I figured something went wrong using the Easeus cloning, so I went back to the old drive and did it again, double checking everything. This time it seemed okay, so I started doing some benchmarks. When I went into AS SSD Benchmark, it showed that my alignment was bad. I doubled checked by going into MSCONFIG32 and dividing the offset by 4096. It came up with a decimal, so it is bad. That's when I used MiniTool Partition Magic to align the partition. It didn't take long and I was u... Read more

Hi all,
I'm coming to you with my problem.

I've been dealing with this for hours. I've looked all across the internet and I have yet to fix my issue.

SPECS/ISSUES
MSI GT80 Titan Laptop
Windows 7

I just bought/installed two Samsung SSD 850 Evo M.2s
I already have a 1TB HHD with all my stuff and OS on it (windows 7)-Not Samsung

Followed these instructions perfectly in Video directly from MSI
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1md2eUqKrKo

I have already Raid configured my two new SSD's into a Stripped Array and booted SATA etc
The system on boot does not install/try to install an OS. It acts like there should be an OS and fails the Windows screen load(freezes for a sec on the colors) then brings me to .5 sec blue screen that I cant even read its so fast, then it starts the "start windows normally screen/or restore previous version", neither of which work cuz it just fails over again etc.

Why can't/wont it let me install my OS. Yes I have the boot Disc in the cd drive also. It is the first OPTION on boot.
Any help leading to this will be appreciated. I'm beginning to think I'm ruining my computer restarting it so much trying to figure it out.

I've tinkered more, and decided to test out just a normal array of the SSD's to non-raid and when I boot it just ignores trying to install on the new SSDS and loads up the OS from my HDD. Even more frustrating. Apparantly when the two SSDS are Stripped and Together they are DYNAMIC and they can't have a OS installed onto them?! Now googling more issues ~~~Still clueless... Read more

I go into bios and change the following settings:
disable fast boot, and make the OS selection CMS make USB boot first
Then when i boot, it just boots back to windows 8. I also noticed that once I reboot back into bios, the USB is not set to first boot as I set it initially.
By the way I have a Samsung Series 7 Chronos with nividia graphics.

I just got a Samsung Series 7 Slate off of Craigslist. I have already booted from a USB flash drive with Windows 8 64 bit. But I realize I don't want to just go ahead and install it without some advice from some others who have already been.

First of all, do I do a full install of Windows 8, or do a dual boot with Windows 7? I've already managed to dual-boot my desktop PC with a Windows 8 64 bit on a VHD partition. I used Easy BSD to set up the boot menu.

I found a page on the Samsung site, that describes using a USB-based keyboard when doing the installation.

So as much as I'd like to fire up the gadget on Windows 8, I'd rather hear from someone who's already been there.

Answer:Just got Samsung Series 7 Slate, how do I install Windows 8?

I would burn a set of the factory restore disks for Windows 7 before I do anything. There is a good chance the hidden recovery partition could get messed up and end up not being usable.

Answer:Cannot install windows 7 on Samsung RV509 Notebook

HI,

So, you are planning to install Windows 7 but you are getting an error when it restarts...
Make sure if you install windows, that you completely format the drive, So that all the partitions are gone (or at least a clean partition to install windows on.)

Otherwise you could try activating the installation within (asuming) windows xp. and install it that way.

Hi all,

I'm new to the tenforums (nice to meet you all) and need some guidance on getting Windows 10 working on a 950 pro using an MSI Z170a gaming M7 motherboard. I want to remap the disk controller from SATA to PCI-E which the motherboard supports via RST RAID configuration in UEFI bios. Two major blocking issues I can't get past. See this thread on the MSI forums for more details: https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=264103.0

1- If I try and install Win10 with pci-e remapped, Win10 install won't detect the SSD. The screen where you choose a drive to install to is blank and the ONLY way I've been able to find the drive is by using the MSI install disk which includes a version of RST drivers. However if I complete install using this method, I can't install the Samsung 950 pro 1.0 NVMe drivers and Magician doesn't see the drive as a 'compatible' device.

2- If I ditch pci-e remapping and just install as a regular SATA device, I can install the NVMe driver and Magician works. BUT the drive is setup as a SATA device and I specifically purchased this hardware to run at pci-e x4

It looks like very few people, if any, have this same issue which boggles me since I've now tried 3 different motherboards (2 M7s and 1 M5) and 2 separate brand new 950 pros without any success. Samsung tech support and MSI tech support both seem to have no idea how to troubleshoot this. I can't believe I'm the only one facing this issue, but hours of searching and troubleshooting I have ... Sony Vaio VPFC1, Win 7 Ultimate.
I have installed the Samsung software but the drive can't be 'seen' by the system.

Answer:Sony vaio, install Samsung SSD 500Gb

I'm not sure what you mean by installing the Samsung software? Usually its a case of removing the original drive and replacing with the SSD. If there is an option in the BIOS to change to AHCI mode then change it before installing the OS, with either your recovery disks or a Windows disk. Not sure your model number is correct though.
Possibly this link will help out and also see the link for Vaio F Series Windows 7 64-bit Clean Install Guide Using OEM Recovery Discs.

Hi,I have a PC running Win XP home, using 2 hard drives.1 is a Seagate ST34342A 4.3Gb drive which is partitioned into 2 X 2Gb drives. The first partition on this, Drive F had a clean install of Win98 installed and used to install the XP upgrade, whilst the second Drive D is now empty. The second HD is a Deskstar 120GXP IC35L080AWA07-0 83Gb drive which is partitioned into 2 drives, Drive C had a clean install of XP home and Drive E contains data.I am now running out of disk space and have bought a Samsung SP2014N 200Gb drive to replace the 4.3Gb drive.I removed the 4.3 drive (slave) and installed the 200Gb (slave). The bios detects the correct drive, post boot screen also detects it as does Hardware Manager but the drive is not recognised in Win Explorer. This is where I have a couple of questions. How can I get this drive to work? Why can?t I view/access the drive?Do I need to format the drive first? if so, isn?t there a limit to the size that can be formatted or I am confused with something else.Maybe it will cause a problem, I am not sure, but I do not have a floppy drive, so I would have to boot from HD or CD.Would it cause problems because the original 98 install drive will be removed? are files used as part of the upgrade to XP?Any help or advise would be much appreciated, please let me know if you need more information.CheersSimon

Answer:secure erase a samsung ssd before clean install ?

You will have the option during the Windows install to reformat the hard drive. That option will erase any previous data on the drive.

But, a new drive doesn't have to be "erased".

Hello.

My problem is that I can't install windows 7 on my laptop even from the recovery disk which came with it. I have tried other 7 editions too, but neither works.

Problems begun when I tried to install ubuntu on one of my partitions. After installing it didn't boot and do anything at all. Then the problems came, and by accident I changed the attributes of the recovery partition that cam with the laptop (I made it visible somehow). After I have found that no more I can use that partition (recovery won't work). Then I tried to install the windows from the DVD-disk. I found that the install hangs at some point (after choosing partition to install the OS on). From my experience I knew that sometimes you can't install the windows OS from a disk if you have the recovery partition (Asus case?). Then I deleted the recovery partition.

Here problems became even worse. If before the install hanged somewhere after choosing the partition to install on, now on the install hangs either after writing "starting windows" with only the red visible from the whole WINDOWS FLAG, and that only a point.

Should I take my laptop to the recovery center or the problem can be solved with available in the internet methods?

Thanks in advance.

It worked the first time, synced it and everything with Windows Mobile Device Center, but then when I unplugged and replugged it in, driver's were corrupt(obviously), and tried uninstalling it all, and then reinstalling them all, drivers and WMDC, and I get a little notification that informs me that the drivers were unsuccessfully installed.
