Loud static noise then total lockup-crash-freeze

Question: Loud static noise then total lockup-crash-freeze

I'm getting these more an more frequently. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it either. My computer can be totally idle and I come back to it and it's locked up or I can be simply reading something on the web and it might happen. Can anyone offer any support on this?

Preferred Solution: Loud static noise then total lockup-crash-freeze

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: loud static noise!

My computer is constantly making a loud static/rushing/electronic interference noise, all the time apart from when I play a CD using the Windows CD player - but if I try and play a CD using Windows Media Player I still get the noise, and the CD volume is so quiet you cannot hear it over the interference!

Any suggestions? I have a USB broadband modem and the problem started shortly after I installed this. I only have integral sound that came with the motherboard, I don't have a soundcard.

Any help welcome!

This problem just started about 20 minutes ago, for no reason at all my laptop started making this noise. At first it was intermitten static, almost like static beeping, but then it became steady. I restarted my laptop, but it started up again once I turned it back on. I also heard it through my headphones but I unplugged them and now it's just from the speakers again. It starts as soon as I play audio, and stops about 30 seconds after I stop playing audio. I don't know what to do.

Last night I had some friends help me, we tried updating my Realtek driver, restoring my laptop, and finally updating my graphics driver I went to this website and selected the automatically detect option. However, after installing the driver my laptop now freezes on the hp loading screen.

Hi everyone, I hope i'm posting in the right place. I joined this forum because i need some help. Less then a week ago i purchased a new sony laptop model number sve151a11w. My problem is almost every time i play a game (i only have dawn of war 2 + expansions and minecraft at the moment) after a couple of minutes of playing there will be a loud static sound from the speakers then the computer will freeze, the only way to unfreeze it is to hold down the power button until it shuts down. Ctrl + Alt + Delete doesn't work, the windows button doesn't work and i'm starting to get worried about shutting my computer off like this all the time.
Any help is appreciated.
Cheers, Ben.

I would really appreciate anyone with any idea how to fix this.

Hi. My Toshiba laptop has been randomly crashing/freezing with colorful static on the monitor and loud static noise from the speakers (usually if I'm on youtube). This has been happening on and off for months. Sometimes it just crashes to a black screen and restarts but often it does the dramatic crashing. I don't have a good connection to go downloading troubleshooting stuff and I have no idea if its the battery, the video card, a virus (because rarely on boot-up the microsoft security essentials is turned off or malwarebytes has an error about root-kits that doesn't come up again when its restarted), or what. I don't know what to google to even start finding answers to this problem and I need help.

I recently got new headphones (Bose QuietComfort3) and they work fine with an ipod and one of my computers. However, with my other computer, I get a loud, constant static noise coming out of them. The noise starts around half-way through booting up Windows and doesn't stop until the computer shuts off. My old headphones work fine with the computer (they are very cheap headphones though) and my speakers work fine. These new headphones also play sounds fine, but the static sound drowns everything out. My soundcard is a SoundBlaster Live! 24-bit.

Things I've tried:
1. Updating the soundcard drivers.
2. Disabling the soundcard.
3. Making sure there were no loose connections in my case.
4. Cleaned out my case.

Thanks for any help.

I re-installed Win 7 Pro 32 bit from a USB device (I have the product key) after being unable to prevent further BSOD occurrences. User errors were the cause of the failed first 2 attempts of the re-install, but the third time proved to be a charm. No more blue screens, but ...

1) My CPU now sounds like a jet as it roars down the runway. This especially while playing games on FB with Chrome as my browser.

2) After the re-install there were more than 150 updates. Normal? I installed the IMPORTANT ones -- there were 102. (BTW, post re-install I did Updates first and then Drivers. Hope that was correct.)

3) There is a crackling noise emanating from the built-in speakers, even when muted. The static cannot be heard when the head phones are used. The noise is still present, but only the expected audio comes thorough the wires. Also, I don't recognize the sound driver. I am pretty sure it's not the same, but not certain. Can't confirm either way as I erased the backups. Sorry about that.

4) When I ran sfc /scan now, it took forever and the marathon yielded many, many corrupt files. Some files were reparable and others not. Some of the errant files were Chinese Dictionary files. It surprised me, too. Unfortunately I do not have that log.

I really need some help with this. I am going on 24 hours with no sleep and can't see myself soundly sleeping until this is solved. I have no idea how to solve it. Another re-install?

I should mention that the hard-drive capa... Read more

Hello and welcome John mate the roaring CPU would be a heat problem at a rough guess if yo cannot get the temps up with Speccy try this Core Temp

The updates mate yes fairly standard for a fresh install. That the sfc took so long and yealded what it did I would reinstall again and try this

Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 make sure of the language and that the version is the one you have the code for and that it doesn't have "old" or a large "N" alongside it.

You really should think about some more RAM too mate and I guess the hard drive could be best dealt with a test try SeaTools for Windows | Seagate

Hi,I have a new computer (1.3g Duron, PC Chips M/B, 512mb ram etc.), I have installed Windows ME myself and updated via the Microsoft web site but the problem I have is that I get completely random crashes/lockups etc. This can happen when I'm in Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, Publishing a web via Frontpage, Printing via different applications, virus checking (I have used two different ones, uninstalling one before installing new one). Some crashes state that:vsmain has caused an error in MSI.dllvsstat....................... mcscan.dllmmtask........................mhsshk.dlldw15.........................crypt.dllkhooker.......................msshk.dlliexplore......................mshtml.dlletc. etc or combinations of the above, although an error in MSI.dll does seem to be the most frequent. Can anyone help?

The problem used to be a daily blue screen leading to a reboot, and after updating the audio drivers this issue ceased for a time. Since then, it has crashed a couple more times, and today it crashed to a screen of static.

hi. i have a Toshiba Satellite A300D-15B, and it has just starting occassionally making a loud screeching noise, coming from almost the bottom, almost in the middle (not the side where the fan is). When this happens, the laptop then starts to struggle a bit, and sometimes freezes, sometimes leading to a crash.

is this a hard drive issue? what course of action may i need to take in order to correct this problem?

any help/advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Gary

Hello

I've been experiencing the same crash repeatedly now, while playing any game(it's happened so far in Rainbow Six Siege, Fallout 4 and Just Cause 3) my screen will randomly lock up and there's always a loud EEEEEEEEEEEEE sound until I shut the PC off manually with the power button.

I've tried checking the event logs and there doesn't seem to be anything in there when the lock happens and the PC is completely unresponsive during the lock.

Would you please upload a new zip from the dm log collector (from the BSOD Posting Instructions) to provide new data about the recent crashes.

Answer:Hard lock, loud noise crash while playing games.

I am having the exact same problem. Tropico 5, Prison Architect, Battle Field, Guild Wars 2 at this point.

20 minutes or so in and It freezes. The only relevant error is the critical error in the logs related to the hard reboot. I have an AMD 7790. From what I can tell it worked fine before I upgraded to Win10 but I don't want to say that for sure was the cause because I was really busy with work for 6 months and did not play any games during that time (March through August).

I have:

1) reinstalled windows 10
2) ran Fur Mark for 8 hours (no crash)
3) Ran memtest86+ for 24 hours (no errors after 12 passes)
4)removed existing AMD drivers with DDU and installed the beta drivers
5) blown out the dust from every crevice of my PC (there wasn't that much since I have filters)
6) re-seated my GPU
7) scanned for malware with malwarebytes
8)cleaned my registry with CC Cleaner

The only thing that I have not done is adjust my timeout settings in the registry because I have not seen anywhere that doing so would solve this problem on Windows 10 (seems to be a vista/7 solution)

My last resort will be to buy an Nvidia GPU and hope that there are no issues.

Hello, My name is Maria and I am from Moscow.

I have purchased this laptop (Toshiba Satelite L 670-15) on 16th of december 2010 and from the very beginning I had problems with it. Before I managed to install any programs, it said to me: " There isn't enough memory", I couldn't install important updates and software was working very slow. I took it to the service center RSS and by warranty they changed a harddrive there and reinstalled Windows.

Later, approximately in a month, my laptop began to get hot, very bad, like iron and to turn off. My friend cleaned and blew the laptop with a canned air. First three weeks it worked good, then the problem repeated. Before the end of my warranty period left not so many time and I took it to the service center again.

They took my laptop and said: "Your laptop is getting hot, it needs to be cleaned, it is not warranty fixing and it will cost 1750 rubles (about 54 dollars). Is it normal? Why at least on the warranty period you can not offer me a free fixing? In the service center I was told, that there was no any other problems, except of dust, but I'm always using my laptop at home, it's very clean here and no dust, I use the laptop, according to user's manual and I don't understand how in such a short period of time it's getting so dirty, that I can not work on it!

I need this laptop for my work, but service center took my laptop for more, than 2 weeks, though I refused from paid fixing. After that I sen... Read more

I?m afraid the ASP is right and this is not warranty case?

It?s nothing unusual that notebook?s cooling fans needs to be cleaned from time to time. I do that with my two different notebooks from different manufacturers.
I use my notebook at home, the other while traveling and both needs to be cleaned. I use a simple compressed air spray to get the dust removed.
This is good enough to keep the cooling modules clean.

Here is a nice and useful document from Toshiba knowledge base:
+How to clean the cooling system of a Toshiba notebook+
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD7A01ZZ000AR01.htm

But if cleaning the cooling modules does not help, I would recommend changing the settings in power management of the Win 7.
Go to:
Changes in Operating System:
Control Panel --> Power Options --> Change plan settings --> Change advanced power settings --> TOSHIBA Power Saver Settings --> Cooling Method

Here try the setting: Max performance.

Furthermore go to TOSHIBA HW Setup -->... Read more

I hope someone may be able to tell me how to fix the problem I'm having with my modem. My modem makes a loud humming static noise while dialing to get on the internet or to talk with someone and then disconnects and ends the call immediately after dialing. Sometimes there is no static noise while dialing and then the loud humming starts immediately after dialing and the telephone call terminates after about 30 seconds. On one call, I heard someone talking from the other end of the phone line but couldn't understand what they were saying because of the loud static.
I have an IBM Aptiva computer, with a windows95 operating system and an IBM Aptiva 28.8 mwave Data Fax modem which is located right on the mother board. I bought the computer new about 5 years ago.
I'm not too familiar with technical terminology, although I have looked in every part of my computer. I looked at a lot of things under system, modem, network neighborhood, program manager and communications, but everything looks normal. IBM notified me that they don't stock this modem any longer. I'm at a complete loss of any new ideas on how to fix this problem exept to try a new modem which I'm a little hesitant to buy until I'm sure the one I have is bad. Any help I can get woud be appreciated. Thank you.

I didn't really see a clear cut "help desk" or "request some support" section... so i think I will try here... Sorry if it isn't the right forum!

So...

ok..... so I have been having one issue since the new build..... it didn't start right away, it started about 10 days ago.(complete new build roughly 25 days ago, my first one)

Random freeze or total crash.

I am not getting any blue screens of death......

If it freezes, it literally freezes, and i cant do anything to get out of it but a hard reboot (power button for 5 secs)

If it crashes.... the whole system goes down... then idles at an almost start-up... screen stays black though, and it doesnt enter the boot cycle. When this happens, I can press the reset button on the front of the unit, and the machine boots right up.

In each scenario I get the select an option of how to boot up screen... i always just select "Start Windows Normally" and it boots right into windows.

Sometimes this will happen twice in a night, sometimes it wont happen for 2 days. It feels random.

I do feel like the only 100% constants are the following

Asus monitoring/OC'ing software (I dont do any overclocking, everything stays at default settings)
EVGA Precision OC/Monitoring Software (Again, no oc'ing just use for monitoring)
AVG (Anit-virus)

Answer:Random freeze or total crash on new build

Your overall system temperature is quite fine but as for your cpu your celcius temp range is 131-136.4 in fereinheit. I don't know what your chip is rated for but I would look into this. If it is too hot then that may be your issue right there.

Also, what is your power supply and wattage?

I have a new G580 (2689) which crashes at least once per day. The screen becomes corrupt displaying a mixture of random coloured noise and fragments of the desktop which flicker / shimmer. The system freezes, the mouse pointer (also corrupted) will not move and the situation is unrecoverable by anything other than holding down the power button (for 8 seconds) to turn the machine off. It is very similar (if not identical to) the issue reported on other Lenovo machines here. Here's what I've investigated? Drivers: all drivers are up to date according to Lenovo Solution Center, they were all downloaded from the support page, or auto updated via Intel's HD graphics driver itself. Temperature: I've logged temperature for both the CPU and the GPU using CoreTemp and GPU-Z / CPU-Z. Neither are getting above 55 celcius even under maximum load (Furmark). RAM: I have checked the RAM using both Mem86+ and Windows Memory Diagnostics and both found no issues. HD: I have error checked the hard-disk and found no problems. The system freezes randomly, sometimes after many hours of use, sometimes after a few minutes. It is not linked to any one piece of software. It will crash whether the system is receiving input (mouse / keyboard) or is unattended. OS: Win 7 x64 Please advise as to what else I can test (and how to go about it) or whether the system needs to be returned as faulty?

Hi Ampa,

Thanks for posting to the Lenovo Community,

Am sorry to hear about the issue that you?re facing,

I?d like to guide you through the steps to try to get the machine back to the initial state like the first day that you get the machine if you got it with pre-installed OS and didn?t change the OS and didn?t change the size of the partitions of the HDD and also make sure to take a backup from your data as all the data will be lost from C :\

Kindly connect the charger and the battery and make sure that the machine is completely off and then press on the One Key recovery button and then check the below link for the recovery steps:

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?DocID=HT062552

Hope the information helps. Let us know.

Regards

Question: Lockup w/loud tone

Every now and then my computer completely freezes and a loud, high-pitched tone can be heard from my speakers. After manually resetting the computer, I discover no errors in the system event log.

For anyone who is wondering, I have an Audigy 2 ZS sound card, AMD 64 3200+ processor and 512MB RAM.

Any ideas as to what might be going wrong?
Btw, I checked my CPU temp and it seems to be around 40c.

Answer:Lockup w/loud tone

40c sounds ok - have you tried removing and re-installing the audia drivers?

If you haven't already, run a scan here:-

Hi all,

About two months ago I bought myself an upgrade for my battered old pc. All was working well until about 2 weeks ago when suddenly I started experiencing random freezing, I'm not just talking about no mouse, I mean, full on lockup, sound on loop and unable to turn num lock on and off, bad times. It can freeze anywhere from while windows is loading to when browsing Overclockers to playing a game. Its very perculiar.

I have tried all sorts, from re-seating the RAM and CPU to updating all drivers and am thinking about clean install of windows.

I have been reading somewhere that a shabby PSU could be the problem, I have been wondering about this as mine came 'free' with my case, so it can't be owt clever.

By the way I have enough cooling, side fan blowing onto CPU then a rear case fan sucking air out.

Also Event Thing in windows shows nothing expect for when I have done a hard reset.

Anyway I'm just after some ideas as to what it could be because its driving me mad!

My specs are below:

- AMD Phenom II x4 955
- Asus M4A785TD-V EVO Mobo
- 4GB Micron DDR3 RAM
- ATI Radeon 4670
- 1x LG DVD RW
- 1x 500GB Seagate Drive (SATA)
- 1x 250GB WD Drive (SATA)
- Windows 7 x64 Ultimate

The power supply is: EZCool 500W Socket 775 ATX500 JSP??

If you need any more info please ask, I'm totally stuck.

ALSO I can run XBMC for hours watching films but if I go to play a game it simply just freezes after a few minutes of gameplay.

Hi guys thanks for looking at my post.

I have a rather elderly pc - five years or so - but which has all the relevant updated drivers and a recent addition of memory, and a Hauupage TV card which does not work properly despite all drivers being fully up-to-date (although that is not the reason I am posting here, thought it might be relevant - the picture is 'stuttery' so I gave up trying to use it . This current problem is only a recent development and the tv card has been installed about three months) It runs Windows XP Home Edition with Service Pack 3.

It was a custom build based on an Asus machine, with the following specs:

ATI Radeon 9600 series video card
Single core Pentium 4 2.8 GHz processor
2G RAM

Not sure what else you will need to know re specs.

The problem is that the machine has begun to lock up completely at random. . When it does this the mouse is frozen, the keyboard does not respond, and I have to press the power button. There is no problem when I turn back on again.

I play MMORPG without too many problems and browse the net, MS Office applications and graphical applications such as Illustrator all run fine - except for these apparently random lockups.

There are no consistent error messages but I did get a Windows one which mentioned EPGService.exe and also the wireless network card seems to be returning 'access violation' errors - yet it works. The wireless netwrok card is new also - a Linksys wirelss N one to pair with the new WAG... Read more

Not sure if anyone can help with this but recently, as in sometime in the last few days, my HTPC audio has gone spastic.
When trying to watch live tv or previously recorded tv (still in the media centre tv format) there is really load static over the top of the audio stream. When I say loud I mean take those warehouse clearance ads (Mr bankrupt for example) and multiply by 100. It has got to be the maximum audio output and I thought it was going to kill the tv speakers!
Watching video in any other form (AVI, MKV, h264, mpg) is fine and all other audio I have used (mostly mp3 or ogg) seems to work too.
PC info below;

CPU ? 3Ghtz Athlon 64 X2 6000+
MOBO ? Gigabyte MA78GM-S2H
RAM ? 4 GB DDR2 RAM
TV Tuner ? Compro E750F
OS ? Windows 7 (Media Centre 7)
Has anyone encountered this before or have suggestions?

Answer:Loud static on HTPC tv

just a short idea: Did you recently change any cables? It sure sounds like defective/insufficient shielding of some sort.

This is not good. No CMOS battery or CMOS / BIOS reset jumper to use. Factory / Lenovo staff absolutely no help. No masterpassword for the BIOS provided. No help on providing a copy of the service manual via email. Lenovo staff generally clueless and unhelpful. Bad company to deal with. Round and Round and Round in CIRCLES for ever. I am told that according to "them" the only option is to send the laptop back, for them to throw out the motherboard and put in a new one - charging me almost the same price as a new laptop. Being a lawyer, - I say Law Suit. So either post me a mater password to my email address because I will exercise my legal skills and shred this company and advertise it all over the web. Me vs. Lenovo / IBM

Answer:"Power On Password" misplaced = Total "No Boot" System Lockup....

Hi,

Sorry that you have forgotten your Power On Password!

There is no master BIOS password. That would largely defeat the purpose of BIOS passwords.

You might try the procedure to reset just the Power On Password at the bottom of this support site page for ThinkPads.

The manuals for your G570 are here.

Hope this helps!

Okay so I have installed WIndows 7 x64. After having HUGE Issues getting the proper sound drivers I had to resort to a fix that someone made for windows 7 and the soundblaster's (x-fi). When I'm either on skype or ventrilo I hear LOUD static when other people have their microphones queued (on skype this is all the time, ventrilo is hotkeyed) Even if their microphone is physically muted, when they queue their microphone i hear LOUD static. I have no other audio issues but I cannot solve this and its becoming frustrating.

The weird thing.. is that in games like Heroes of Newerth or Counterstrike Source I hear no static when people queue their microphones.

Any ideas :( ?

Answer:Windows 7. Loud Static on VOIPS. not in CSS?

Anyone? I managed to fix this error last night by installing the drivers on the creative site in combination with Daniel K's fix. the static was gone. I log on today and it's back. When someone has their mic muted I hear static, and when we're currently in a conversation i hear the static, the only thing that subdues it is when we begin to speak, it dissapears.

Also with my OWN mic now, when I hit "listen to this device" and unplug my mic attachment I hear the same static.

Hi,

I currently bought the Tt eSports Shock One headset:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16826254008

The microphone emits a loud feedback. Using a program like mumble, the noise suppression feature allows the buzzing to be removed.

I am looking for driver/software that would allow me to put noise supression on the mic at a Windows 7 level, rather than a program level.

Thank you for your help.

Please move this to another subforum if this is the wrong place.

Question: XP Lockup/Freeze

Hello all

I've recently started experiencing a frustrating problem with my XP system pc which I hope someone can help with.
My pc will boot up fine to the normal desktop.
I can start/run "some" programs without problems ie. Windows Explorer - Norton Utilities/Antivirus - Belarc Advisor - Ewido - Easycleaner.

Other programs such as - Internet Explorer - SisoftSandra - Aol - Windows XP system Restore - will "almost always" cause the pc to Lock/Freeze with no use of the mouse/keyboard or access to the Task Manager to close the program.

The lock-up's appear to occur when I try to run Internet based programs such as AOL - IE but will also freeze with SisoftSandra & the XP Restore facility?
Very occasionally I can start/run AOL - IE and all other programs without problems but these occurences are few and far between.... hence the use of another PC to post this plea for help.

Any help with the above would be very much appreciated
Many thank's, Dave

Question: PC lockup/freeze

Greetings everyone,
I seem to have a strange problem which started occuring about 2 and a half weeks ago after my power went out while using the computer. THe problem is that my computer locks up, to the point of having to pull the plug. I figured out that the problem occurs because the computer stops responding to my hard drive. If look at my hard drive through perfmon.exe when my computer starts locking up, the transfer rate stays at zero and the highest active time stays at 100%. If the perfmon, exe is open when the hard drive "stops working" there will be spikes aproximately every minute when the hard drive works. These spikes last for maybe 2 seconds. It should be noted that when the hard drive "stops working" on perfmon.exe, the Memory also stays at 0 and spikes when the hard drive spikes. My hard drive is a WDC Caviar Blue 320gb AAJS. The problem occurs within 5 minutes of bootup if i am connected to my network, but if i am not connected to my network, it can usually go for at least an hour without freezing. Although i realize it might just be due the the poewr out age damaging my hard drive, i hope it's a virus because then i wont have to buy a new one. I have done full scans with macafee and malware bytes with no results.

*Cant post GMER log.* When GMER was scanning, my computer froze up so i had to pull the plug. Now when ever i try to scan with GMER it gets stuck on \Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy1. I have tried several times, it even went... Read more

This is my recent problem:

Often, very often, but still inconsistently, XP will simply freeze/lockup when I get a typical open file/save file/browse dialog box. It requires a reboot to get XP back.

I have run a disk scan (Windows -boot) and defragmented (Diskeeper), no errors. I have updated Windows via Windows Update, and I'm running that latest drivers/patches for all my hardware...

ECS-K7S5A - latest Bios
Athlon 1.3
256 M Ram
Samsung SV30SVH - 30G/HD
ASUS GeForce 2 GTS 32M
MS Optical USB Mouse
Acer 10/4/32
Creative 12x DVD
Wacom USB Tablet
Agfa Snapscan USB

The only things in my systray are Norton 2002, and Kaza Lite, could either be the culprit?

Any help would be appreciated, thx in advance

Hey,

My month and half old Acer V3 started to give BSOD's, did some sort of recovery and started working again for a couple of hours, if not trying to access any Windows files. If tried to look up error logs etc it gave different versions of the BSOF. So I tried to run Recovery, getting it back to factory settings, and that's when Windows crashed completely. I followed Acer customer support advice, ordered recovery discs (couldn't create one because Windows crashed when trying it. I got the recovery discs, ran the recovery which ended up giving me failure because of "missing image-something". Another call to Acer and they told to run different recovery version from the puter.

That recovery end to a failure again. After several restarts and what not, windows started up again, being slower than usual. I'm now having constant problems losing internet connection, I've had couple minidumbs and several issues with windows updater and such and these after machine should be back in the factory settings. Anyhow, here's the last log if anyone could take a look on it before I throw this machine to the wall.

Answer:BSOD and total windows crash and recovery crash/failure

For starters:

At work we start all repairs with a set of diagnostics. Often they find problems that weren't even expected. It's a waste of time to try to fix software on a system that has hardware problems.
Please try these free diagnostics for starters: Initial Hardware Diagnostics
Also, please ensure that you have ALL available Windows Updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

In particular, start with the hard drive diagnostics as I suspect that is the problem.

Although there's only 2 memory dumps (it usually takes 4 or 5 to conclude if it's a hardware error or not) - the repeated failure of factory installs makes a hardware failure the most likely problem here. Please run the diagnostics that I suggested above and let us know the results.

There are a list of drivers that need updating (because the recovery media was made a while ago). Don't worry about them until you've finished the hardware diagnostics. If all the diagnostics pass, then update the drivers.

Please update these older drivers. Links are included to assist in looking up the source of the drivers. If unable to find an update, please remove (un-install) the program responsible for that driver. DO NOT manually delete/rename the driver as it may make the system unbootable! :

Hi everybody, I would like some help!

I recently bought a new fan to help with cooling as the summer approaches. My new fan replaces my old chassis fan but is plugged in slightly differently as it is plugged into the 3 pin mother board connector (the old one was plugged into the molex and is now positioned as an intake fan at the front).

My problem is that since I've installed the new fan my computer is actually louder than before, Everest tells me that the revs for the new fan are 5114 rpm as I type this so it's clearly working too hard. I think it's working too hard because my processor fan is only idling by comparison at 1705 rpm. Which temperature does the chassis fan use to control it's speed and why has my CPU fan suddenly become lazy since I installed the new fan? Is there anything I can do to make the CPU fan work harder and take some of the burden off of the chassis fan?

Many thanks for any help!

Answer:New fan but loud loud noise

Try speedfan, that should work.

It seems this driver, Driver Reference Table - SaiMini.sys, caused problems with driver verifier.
I'm not sure what it is related to, but I would suggest to update the software/drivers or remove the related things.

I recently bout a new gaming computer form ibuypower about 4-5 months ago. Since ive had it, randomly during gameplay (typically Arma 2 and Empire Total war) distortion such as a crackling, noise would slowly develop though the speakers, the game perfomance would begin to plummit, and eventually completely lock up the entire computer within a period of roughly 1-3 minutes. The only way to get the computer working again would be to swith the power off and on again. This has been occuring more frequently during the past couple of weeks.

Things I have tried:
Uninstalling, reinstalling the games.
Cleaning up files, defrag, ect.
virus/maleware checks.

System specs:
Vista 64-bit
Intiel i-7 920 2.67GHz
Nvidia GTX 260 x2
500GB hard drive
6 GB RAM

I have temperature monitors installed, the highest teamperature usually reaches 47C during gaming. When the computer is freshly rebooted, it runs fine until I run a game or somewhat stressing application.
Since the rig is still somewhat new, I'm hoping it isnt a hardware issue.

Any advice would be great. Just want to figue out what is causing this. My next step is to just go purchase windows 7 and hopefully it will be the magic fix.

Answer:Crackling noise, performance drop, then lockup.

Hi all,

I made the decision to upgrade my OS from XP SP3 (32bit) to Windows 7 last week and bought the upgrade disk, making sure that I downloaded the idiots' guide and read into how to install the new OS.

Funnily enough things when awry and I had difficulty installing the 32 bit version as I kept getting crashes after about 90% of the installation process was complete. I took the computer back to the manufacturer and they installed the 64 bit version of Windows 7 after having the same difficulties as I experienced.

The problem is that after startup things look ok, but after about 3 minutes the computer freezes - no BSOD, just can't move the keyboard, mouse or do anything elses.

I've gradually updated all of my drivers via Safe Mode with networking (and Driver Detective), having the most difficulty in replacing my Mass Storage Controller driver. My 1TB drive (not the OS drive) is coming up as unpartitioned too, which is a shame as it has my iTunes library on it! (not to worry as I can recover this from either the drive or my iPod after I resolve the freezes).

I've spent 36 hours trying to figure out what is causing the crashes to no avail, and would appreciate any advice. I have attached the SF Diagnostic Tool readout for guidance. Safe mode works a treat - but something goes horribly wrong in normal mode. Not related to overheating imo as I changed the PSU last year and have never had any issues with heat.

Many thanks,
Mark

I've spent 36 hours trying to figure out what is causing the crashes to no avail, and would appreciate any advice. I have attached the SF Diagnostic Tool readout for guidance. Safe mode works a treat - but something goes horribly wrong in normal mode. Not related to overheating imo as I changed the PSU last year and have never had any ... Read more

Started a few days ago, when awakening fromo screen saver/inactivity the toolbar is gone and nothing responds.  The mouse moves, I can click on an icon, it will darken and the curser goes to hourglass, but nothing happens.

Ctl/Alt/Del won't do anything, Windows key, nothing.

I end up holding the power button til it turns off, then hit it again to restart.

I first thought it was something in Firefox as I usually have it left open, but today it was just my normal desktop.

I run Boinc as my screensaver, I should perhaps disable that for a day or two and see it that makes any improvement.

This is a dell Opti GX620 4 G ram running XP Sp3, Zone Alarm and AVG.

Answer:Freeze/Lockup when awakening

Tried disabling screen saver by selecting 'None'

No improvement.

I will check other threads here to get the usual tools used to see what is happening 'under the hood' and see what I can learn.

Occasionally my system locks up without any warning and no bsod, have to hit the reset button on case to do anything. Computer freezes while using flash media (youtube, hulu) including some add banners or other flash based games. It will freeze while looking at any PDF file, and sometimes it will freeze while just sitting idle, even in safe mode. The freeze is not immediate, it will usualy run said programs for up to 10 minutes before freezing. However it never freezes while playing Champions Online, or battlestations
Pacific. Any DVD runs fine with no error aswell.

At first I thought it was a memory problem, but I ran about 30 passes of memtest with no errors. Event viewer only shows a Kernel-Power id 41 category 63 error. I have reseated the RAM and video cards, checked to make sure everything was pulged in firmly. Computer temps are always around 35-40 when the freeze occurs. Not sure what i should do next to reslove this issue, any advise is welcome.

Hi guys,
I have a samsung chronos 7 running windows 7x64, a few months old, and as of yesterday it has developed a problem. It boots up and I can login as quickly and effortlessly as normal, but after a short while, 30 secs to a minute after, the whole machine becomes unresponsive and incredibly slow.it cant even open windows such as "my computer", and cannot shut down, i have to force a shutdown with the power button.
I noticed after a couple of reboots with that happening that when it freezes the hard drive activity light is solidly on, as if the drive is in constant use.
At this point I attemped to run chkdsk as soon as i logged in, trying to beat the lockup. It crawled to 67%, stage 2 verifying indexes, 329020 of 361216 processed. At that point it froze for hours.
I reset and booted into safe mode and ran chkdsk again. This time it sped through to 67% again, even the same index number and froze.
In safe mode the computer was useable slightly longer before it froze and chkdsk ran faster but same result, no response, light solidly on and its now been there for 7 hours on 67%, whearas reaching that point took about 5 seconds.
Could anyone offer advice on what steps to take, or what the issue may be. Also accessing logs may be a problem as i only have my phone to get on the internet with, but if theyre small files i may be able to upload them from here.
I really dont wanna have to replace the drive or reinstall windows as my backup external drive died last week and... Read more

After roughly 40 minutes, my computer will freeze (mouse stops moving, cursor stops
blinking, general freeze). It is usually precluded by some lag in system performance
and occasionally a little clicking coming from the motherboard. This starting happening
after i used chkdsk to repair the MBR (master boot record) on my hard drive. What
can i do to fix this? Will a reformat solve it?

I have 512MB RAM and an 80GB Western digital hD.

Answer:Computer Lockup/Freeze

The clicking could be coming from your HD, try and run the Western Digital Disk utility to see if your HD is bad

Having a really bad experience with this computer. This was purchased in December 2015, and has never really worked right. Random freeze up of the entire OS seems to be the consistent problem.Worst part is that the freeze also happens during creation of recovery disks. I ordered factory recovery media and I am in the process of resetting to factory defaults for the second time. Not exactly an enjoyable experience. However, when you cannot create recovery media - and that is the only thing running - then there really is no other option.I thought this might have been a graphics driver issue, but it now seems deeper than that. Hardware diagnostics check out fine. Please help or this unit is going to be returned

Well I have had the computer within the past month and a half lockup 3 or 4 times. 1 has happened on vista and the others were on windows 7. I thought that win7 was the issue and i had various other reasons but i went back to vista. on win7 when it would lockup, the screen would go to a solid color and the sound was constant. With the one on vista, the video output ceased and the sound was a drone again. As well, with win7 i could soft reboot to fix, whereas with vista i had to hard reboot.

Well, im running prime95 right now, but other than that im not sure where to start as far as "fixing" whatever it is.

Welcome to the forum

One of the primary causes of freeze is sypware. Run your antivirus and then download and run malwarebytes http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php

Hi... i have had this computer for so long
and have tried to figure out whats wrong but i just dont get it

This computer keeps freezing just locks up with no reason
Freezes in some games like Doom 3 or when loading windows XP
installing if i am not fast enough to select options

also freezes during memory tests like memtest86 and
even prime95

the system runs at 55celsius
but i dont think its a temp problem since it freezes
when everything is disconected and just installing windows
xp or running a memory test

MotherBoard D850EMV2
CPU : Intel 850I Pentium 4
RAM : 512MB PC800-40 RDRAM
also tried 512MB PC-800-45 RDRAM
and problem still persists

any ideas
and by the way i also swaped out
the PSU with another 350W

thanks

Answer:Please help me, computer freeze/lockup

whats your graphics card? your PSU might not have enough power for it...

mine used to freeze through-out games, and sometimes at the load up screen... it still does on occasion... but the freezing in games was down to my graphics card over heating...

try taking off the side panel of your pc, then blowing a house fan on it... whilst you play Doom etc.

Hi all this is my first time posting on a tech forum of any kind. Usually I can browse and find my issue already posted and fix it myself but this has been incredibly random for the past month or so.

The main thing that happens is I get a hard lock, where i can't ctrl+alt+del or do anything. I have to hard restart or power off. This can happen a few times in a row when i restart, and then it'll be fine for days. No changes made on the computer or anything, just random crashing. It happens sometimes at the desktop, but very rarely is that the first in the series of locks. Normally it would happen shortly after I had begun playing a game.

Recently it has escalated a bit. As of yesterday it is locking up every time I try and launch a game. It gets to the point where the screen normally flickers or goes black and the first image would show from the games title/load screen, and it locks there. Sometimes it is just a solid color displaying on both monitors, others it freezes the image and has an almost checkered pattern across the screen.

So far I have updated graphics drivers, windows updates, and motherboard chipset. There has been no change in the last day after any of this. Any help or advice will be much appreciated.

a temp solution may be to go back to dxdiag and go to sound and reduce accelleration , you can try this also on "display"

Seeing as I don't ever get a a BSOD I took it that I couldn't post in the BSOD thread.

Important thing to note is when it occurs.

1. Fail to start right from turning on (no BIOs splash screen). Although this is rare and has only happened a few times.
2. Lockup on loading up Windows login. (it will freeze on the circling load in graphic).
3. Can run for like an hour or more in Windows and then I get audio stutter and freeze from like 1 - 30 s then the system continues on it's merry way just fine. Or after 1 - 2 mins of lock I just restart (hard reset) and it's fine till it happens again.

I have tried almost every kind of trouble shooting measure. SFC, safemode (yes it still does it in safemode). Ramtest. Driver updates, driver rollbacks, cleaning... removing many processes, turning off processes. Re-seating of various hardware components.

All tests show zero problems, no heat issue, no hardware issues. The system ran almost perfectly for a year and half. I had one failed stick of ram other than that nothing else. Built the system my self.

Now I have run various hardware monitors so they would record things so when I come out of a lockup, I could possible check max and min recorded values. All the processors highest recorded values are 100%, so the lockup is occurring due to all cores maxing?

This to me indicates a hardware issue with either mb or cpu. Voltages always seem fine. So I rule out power supply. It's so random when it occurs. So I contacted MSI and they wan... Read more

Our company bought and distributed about 100 of these computers to our various stores we support. We upgraded each of them to Windows 10. Almost all of the stores now have issues where one of the computers locks-up/freezes and in the process takes down the entire network. Not only is there no Internet, but you cannot ping between other devices on the network.Forcing the effected ThinkCentre M91p off by pressing the power button fixes the issues, and the whole network comes back online. After a bunch of research I think it must be the network card. The Intel 82579LM Gigabit Ethernet driver is NOT available from Lenovo for Win 10. Not sure if you plan to host it on your site ever. Lenovo forums highly suggest to ONLY use the drivers hosted on the support site for download (Because they are tested). Well since that was not an option, I tried to use the newest version from Intel's website despite what Lenovo suggested... But the issues still persists.Since it takes down the network each time, and since the driver is not listed for Win 10 on Lenovo's site, I think that this is the problem (The network card/drivers/Windows 10)...Has anyone else run into this? Have you had success resolving it? We are in need of a resolution. Were almost to the point of sending USB to Ethernet adapters to the effected locations as a test. Thanks!Zach

Answer:M91P Win 10 - Freeze & Network Lockup

Lenovo doesn't have Windows 10 drivers for the M91p because that gen Intel processor (Sandy Bridge) is not certified to run Windows 10.   You may fix the network issue with a different adapter, but who knows what other issues you'll run into.   And if they're processor related, it will be unresolvable.

Windows system momentary lockup/freezes are usually ribbon cables about to fail. I had a problem with a hard drive not being read by the system until I changed what appeared to be a good cable. It worked on and off or only some pins were good.. Same thing with a DVD player not reading dvd's although the player was installed fine. Again when a CD/CD-RW drive read but would not write cd's, even after the ISO file was repaired. All fixed with new cables. ----BUT be certain it is a momentary freeze and not just a stall taking place with pop-up blockers, etc. woking during web site pages being opened. ---also try Microsoft Fix It Center free check . It will cure several other problems as well

- Clock Inturrupt Not Recieved on Secondary Processor within Allocated Time Interval BSoD

Problem occurs because the 2 CPU's timestamps are not synched and causes an issue or BSoD.

This happens to me so far only in Age of Conan.

A fix for this problem was installing the AMD Dual Core Optimizer, I have had this installed when I had XP and installed it on Vista as well. From what I've seen, it is not required in Vista, because apparently Vista fixes the timestamp issue. Again I've had no problems with this other than in AoC.

- AoC SLi Freeze/lockup

Running AoC in fullscreen in SLi freezes up after awhile, time amount varies. When running out of SLi and in windowed mode, the game runs fine.

Trying to get SLi working with AoC since it's the game I primarily play right now.

updated all drivers yesterday, X-Fi to the latest 2.18.0004, nvidia to 177.19, and nforce board drivers.

Any suggestions?

Hi there, this is my first post so play nice. Also, i'm not sure if this is the right section for this, so sorry if it's not.

I have recently built myself a new computer.

The specs for the main components are as follows:

- Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 G0 Stepping (2.4GHz 1066MHz) Socket 775 L2 8MB Cache (2x4MB (4MB per core pair)
- Abit AB9 QUAD GT P965 Socket 775 DDR2 7.1channel audio eSATA ATX
- Sapphire HD 2900 Pro 512MB GDDR3 Dual DVI ViVO PCI-E Graphics Card
- Corsair 2GB Kit (2x1GB) DDR2 800MHz/PC2-6400 XMS2 Memory Non-ECC Unbuffered CL5(5-5-5-12)
- Hitachi 500GB Hard Drive 7200rpm SATAII 16MB Cache - OEM
- Arctic Power 700W PSU - With PCI-E, SATA, 20+4, ATX12V, 8pin +12V Connectors
-Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit.

I put it together, no hastle. Now during the installation of vista occured serveral lockup's, auto restarts and even a blue screen of death. I immediatly pressumed it was the RAM but after several extensive tests it showed no problems with it. I decided to try one of my dual core processors, so i popped it in and bam, i installed vista no problem. After a couple of hours pushing my computer it still worked no problem, so i tried my quad core again, and .. again .. i get lockup's/freezing at random points during the vista bootup process. Now if i start vista in safe mode it works no problem, so theoreticly it has to be a software problem, a driver maybe? But then im thinking it can't be a driver because it lockedup during th... How can I find out what is crashing my system when it is just freezing and not providing a dump file / error?

This just started happening yesterday.  Wow freezes, monitor goes black like its lost signal, sound freezes/stutters, whenever I'm in the game for about 5 minutes.  This is not a crash that produces an error log which is why I'm having a helluva time tracking it down.  I have to manually 4 second hold power.  Otherwise the computer seems to be working fine with no lockups other than in game.  I've tried other games, not as graphics demanding as wow is, but no issues at all.

The only "new" things in my computer was the update that WoW pushes every Tuesday.  Over the previous week or two, the graphics driver had updated.  I went into Event Viewer and also saw an error I had seen several months prior when I suddenly started having random shut down for no reason issues, involving a Syswow64 driver (kbdcap.sys).  But I also noticed that those driver errors were occuring even when my system was stable and able to play the game.  I also saw a possibility that the new driver was causing lockups and should be rolled back.  "Rollback" wasn't an option (grayed out), so I uninstalled and reinstalled a different driver, same result.

I am in the middle of full blown tinker-itis and need some help/direction.  Usually I can just sleep on it, and my brain figures it out for me.  Not this time. ... Read more

Brand new build of Win7 computer...OS installed last week.

The screen is locking up on me....1-2 times a day requiring a hard rest. Since this does not produce a BSOD there is no log I can check for errors (that I know of)

I have done all the traditional troubleshooting I can find on google....usually focusing on video card driver issues.

I have removed the drivers in safe mode and used driversweeper to remove any entries.
Run memtest for a few hours with no errors...
Run furmark and have my GPU's up to 93 degrees Celsius for an hour or so (seemed hot to me, but Nvidia says these cards are rated to 105 degrees)
done driver verify ect ect

Kinda at a loss now

The symptoms are complete screen freeze up...and no response from keyboard or mouse....and never returns (I have waited 20 minutes max)

Today a strange thing happened were it froze up and there was no response...but my pen could move the cursor (for 2 minutes) but not click on anything. And a status bar pop up appeared.

So not 100% frozen but 99.5%
I posted a video on youtube of this
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T8s2OpaqXmU

I have never had an issue like this before.
This is a fresh install of Win 7, with a brand new 1200 watt PSU

I have also attached the win7 forums files from that nifty little program
Thanks for your help

Question: A Very Loud Noise

I was working in the computer area one night. Of four computers, I was using two, one had been shut down for the night, and the last had been left on, but was unused.Suddenly the room was filled with a very loud noise. We are talking quite loud, almost like a fire alarm - uncomfortably loud to the ears. My first thought was an alarm on the UPS. I checked it, and it was fine. Then I thought maybe a fan bearing gone bad on one of the computers. I shut down the one not being used. Nothing. So then in spite of losing work, I felt it urgent enough to immediately shut down the two computers I was using. Nothing. So my next thought was fans in the room. Shut them down - nothing. Then I thought maybe the lights. Nothing. So my final thing was to unplug the computer that was already shut off - Bingo! What a surprise. I wasn't sure if the noise was from the computer or from the surge protector it was plugged into, so I ran an extension cord across the room. It ran fine about 3 days and then the noise came again, not quite as loud this time, but still loud.So I am thinking power supply or motherboard. The frequency and texture of the sound is the same as the squeal you get from the computer when you disconnect the power and the electricity drains from the system, except that that sound is mildly soft, but it gives you an idea of the nature of the sound. So I'm thinking maybe the motherboard is alarming me about something, but why so loud? And why continuous and won't go of... Read more

Question: Fan Noise too loud

Hello. Any suggestions on how I can easily cut down on my fan noise? It sounds like there is a lawn mower in here. Please tell me I can just buy a new fan for my processor... or maybe it's the PSU that's so loud. Thanks!

Answer:Fan Noise too loud

Google SpeedFan.

It allows you to vary the speed of your internal fans. Mess around with it til you get a stable, low temperature and desired noise output.

Or, you could just buy new fans.

I got a dell dimension c521 and I notice at random times it has a really loud fan noise. Sounds like an airplane is about to take off or something? It usually happens if im playen video games and what not. I was wondering if this a bad thing or if its normal, and if theres anything I can do to prevent it from getting so loud? Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?

Answer:Really loud fan noise?

The fan runs at full to extract the heat when playing. About the only thing that you can do is to open it up and clean out any dust that you can see.

Hi,

I recently upgraded the ram in my pc from 1.5gb to 2.5gb as it seemed to be getting pretty slow. I was expecting a pretty big jump in performance but it doesn't seem to have happened.

The pc can sometimes be faster than it was and sometimes it really drags. There is also an intermittent loud noise which i believe is coming from the fan and when this happens the pc is slow.

I took out the fan and cleaned all the dust from it but this noise still starts every couple of minutes and the pc becomes slow.

Any ideas?

Answer:Loud Noise from PC. Don't think it is the HDD

Two things to consider...
The amount of memory doesn't have much to do with speed unless some process can specifically use that extra memory. You can to more things well, but not necessarily more rapidly.

You system will utilize all memory at the speed of the slowest module. If you have some memory that is value ram or other inexpensive ram, the timings could be significantly different than the best brands and models.

Your system only uses what memory it needs, not what you want it to use. As long as the RAM meets the requirements of the motherboard, it will not protest.

If you want some programs to run at optimum performance levels, all memory must be identical. It is wise to buy matched sets of RAM from the same manufacturer at the same time to get the ultimate performance. Top memory is already sold in matched sets in the same plastic wrap. Otherwise, you have to look at the timings and other information posted on the package or the label.

Question: loud noise

I have a loud noise on PC or speakers after its been on a while and it comes on for short time every few minutes.. Its a noise that is hard to describe. Grand daughter says its a space sound, what ever that is.Its odd as when playing music its fine just comes on after pc has been on a bit. Also can't tell if its pc or speakers. Just got new monitor as mine worn out and was hoping it would go but hasn't, it started 3 weeks ago. I turn speakers right down to get away from it.

Answer:loud noise

Is it a beeping sound? If so, can you count the beeps and does the sound repeat itself or is it just now and then.

Hello... I'm new here. I've got a strange problem (at least for me, anyway.) Maybe this has happened to someone else who can tell me how to fix it. It is a bit long winded, so please bear with me:

About a month ago, a friend's 14-year-old daughter brought her computer to me because it "wouldn't start." The computer was built by a friend of her dad's, so I don't know all the specs on the motherboard other than the hardware and that it has an AMD Athlon processor and 128mb ram.) All I did was plug it in and try to boot it to know that the power supply was fried. Simple enough, I replaced the power supply with a new one and returned her computer. I also noticed that there was an internal motherboard cooling fan that had not been plugged in. I thought that since the original power supply fan was coated with dust and debris that it was not providing enough cooling for the computer, so I plugged in the extra fan as well hoping it would help cool it down. Parts of the motherboard had quite a bit of dust on it. I didn't have anything to blow the dust off (and I am not about to use a vacuum.) Later that evening, she called back explaining that she could no longer access the Internet. I figured some dust might have accumulated on the modem card and the PCI slot from moving the computer around so much so I went over to her house and removed the modem drivers and uninstalled it. I switched slots and reinstalled the drivers. Within minutes she... Read more

Hi everyone,
This is not a question but a solution to, what seems to be, a common problem.  My Precision 7510 laptop was having an annoying problem with the Touchpad where the mouse would freeze.  It would freeze for a good 5-10 seconds.  Sometimes, while frozen, the mouse would continue to move at a very slow rate in a particular direction while I waited for the freeze to end.  If I used it later in the day, however, it would be completely fine.  The following possible solutions were tried:
1) Update the device driver.
2) Update the BIOS.
3) Turn off the PointStick.
4) Turn off Touchpad Gestures.
5) Turn off Touchpad Touchguard.
6) Ran the Dell Diagnostics.
Nothing worked.  There was also a possible connection mentioned between Google Chrome running and the Touchpad.  It turns out that it was Google Chrome, but not from the browser running.  It had to do with the background processes running.  I ended up going into the Task Scheduler settings and stopping the Google Updater processes.  Here are the steps on Windows 7:
1) Open Windows Control Panel.
2) Open Administrative Tools.
3) Open Task Scheduler.
4) Under Task Scheduler Library (Local), click on the title Task Scheduler Library.
5) Disable the following services:
GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore
GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA
6) Disable any other unnecessary background tasks.
After making this change, I am no longer seeing the frozen mouse and I've re-enabled all of the disabl... Read more

Hi everyone, this is my first post on this forum but I will try to be as accurate as possible in describing my issue. I'm running 32bit Vista and I've included a DxDiag text file so you can have a more intimate knowledge of what I'm running.

So here's my problem. About six months ago I reformatted/reinstalled Windows through system recovery. I did this just to keep my computer clean and running smoothly. After some time I noticed that my computer would completely freeze when watching netflix, and sometimes flash videos from other sites such as Dailymotion, Kissanime, Youtube, and generally any site with streaming video. When the issue occurs the computer is totally frozen. I'm unable to move the mouse, ctrl/alt/delete, etc, and I'm forced to hard reset by holding the power button. The problem was rare at first but over time it became intermittent, and then frequent. Just this morning I reformatted Vista again in an attempt to fix the issue, yet the problem still occurs.

Here are some facts I've learned from troubleshooting the issue over time:

*Most important* The type of video player used by the site has a clear effect on the probability of my computer freezing. With Netflix it is almost assured my comuter will freeze within 5-10 minutes, or less. With Youtube it is unlikely to freeze at all, but rarely does anyway.

*Also important* The problem occurs only with streaming video. I can run very graphics intensive games such as Skyrim on ultra settin... Read more

When the laptop is put into the sleep mode and while closing the lid, a loud noise comes from the place near the touchpad. The sound goes off when the lid is opened. It is happening since a month.
The sound is not coming from the speakers. It is coming from inside the laptop.

Answer:Loud Noise while closing lid

Hi Arun,Thanks for the response.I would suggest you to enable the audio device and uninstall the audio driver. Then restart the system and Windows would automatically try to install the sound driver. Run the Windows Audio Playback Diagnose and Repair from the below mentioned MS FIX-IT http://support.microsoft.com/mats/AudioPlayback/ You may also run the hardware diagnostics to check if there is a hardware failure. To run the diagnostics you can get the instructions from the online videos available on the following link: http://dell.to/Sm161v Once you open the above page, under the option, “All Videos” select Dell Tools & Services >> Then select Dell Support Center–PC Checkup/Offline Diagnostics Please find the screenshot below:1. Click Start, All Programs, Dell, Dell Support Center and Launch PC Checkup. 2. Click the PC Checkup button and then click Run Custom Scan. Note: If the hardware is detected but the driver is not installed, instead of Run Test, the field will read Disabled. In the given list, click to select the script or component test desired and follow the onscreen prompts to complete the diagnostic. Please reply with the findings. Thanks & Regards Vishal S #iworkfordell

There is a loud and griding kind of noise while i use my laptop. It is so annoying and it keeps on vibrating the laptop too.My laptop model number is HP ENVY M6 1215TX .I have been using it for the past 3 years now and there has been no heating issues or fan issues. Please tell me what to do.Should i get the fan  replaced or laptop serviced? And around what will it cost me if i go for the replacement of the fan? (My laptop is not covered in warranty)

Answer:Loud fan noise and vibration

Well the problem is unquestionably the fan. The replacement process is shown on p. 73 of the Manual here: Manual Where do you live (country)? I ask because I am not familiar with what service technicians charge for this kind of work in every country. In the US I can tell you the part would be maybe $15-20US and the labor would be $80-150. If you have some skills at following a manual and maybe a video it is something you can do yourself.  http://www.ebay.in/itm/New-CPU-Cooling-Fan-for-HP-Pavilion-M6-M6T-M6-1000-m6-1002xx-m6-1035dx-m6-/11... We are happy to help as much as possible.

When some sound is playing (game, video) every 30 seconds there is some "static" noise. It sounds as looking up different stations on a old radio.

I don't know if this is hardware or software problem. No new hardware is added. I dont have any other loudspeakers to test.

A while ago I had this problem as well but somehow it disappeared. the noise is more often when surfing on internet or only navigating in windows.

Hi guys, I just bought this Lenovo Ideapad 510s 13IKB 80V0.The fan is terribly noisy. It's very noisy at low speed, terribly noisy at high speeds and it is running loudly all the time even when the computer is idle just after start-up!I can't even make a skype call because of the fan noise. This is very fustrating. I have updated the driveres but it didn't improve. Is there a specific drive update which solves this? Some people suggest using a fan control software. I'm afraid this will damage or reduce the lifetime of some components. Can it affect the warranty? Please help me, thank you very much!

Whenever i start up a game, a loud squeeky noise appears for no reason. I think its my video card but im just wondering if its something else. Does anyone know about this problem??

Answer:Weird loud noise????

It could be a fan, when you put more pressure on your graphics card it may well decide to turn up its 'im a little bastard' fan.

They can be quiet loud. They should be torn asunder and replaced with nice Coolermaster or Zalman things.

Frosty cool and quiet.

Hi, when I bought my PC two years ago, it was silent, it barely made any noise. However, I later made a huge mistake. I opened the case to clean the inside of the computer with an air compressor, but while I was cleaning the fans I wasn't holding them so the air compressor made them spin faster than normal. Following that, every time I boot my PC now, it makes a loud noise and also the PC makes a lot of noise in general. A lot more than when I bought it, to a point where sleeping next to it when it is turned on is a hard thing to do. Now, I'm wondering if that mistake is the cause of the noise. When I look at the fans, they don't seem to be damaged at all. I have 3 fans: The case fan, the graphics card fan and the power supply fan. My PC is cleaned regularly so I know it's not dust or anything that's causing the problem.

Here's some interesting info: It only makes noise when it's booting after the computer has been turned off for more than 30 minutes. If it's less than that, it doesn't make the loud noise. I have no idea why. Also, about 3% of the time, the desktop doesn't get to fully load because the computer freezes. It's a problem that started at the same time the noise started. If it is indeed one or multiple fans that are broken, how can I know which one(s) is?

I made a video of when I'm booting the computer so you can hear and see what is happening.

Answer:My PC is making a loud noise

You didn't tell us the brand and model of the computer.
Using an air compressor is very bad, because you risk the damage of static electricity that is generated in amazing amounts. Next time, us canned air designed for use in cleaning computers.
Replace the CPU fan, us buy a new CPU cleaning kit, and any fans that blow air to the outside, and replace the power supply with one of decent quality. Clean the dust of fan blades and computer walls with a soft rag soaked in denatured alcohol. Get some nylon or plastic ties to hold the cables together and away from any fans. Tie down SATA and EIDE cables so they cannot block air or rattle. Make sure all air flow passages are free and allow full movement of cooling air. All these will likely return your computer to normal. You could also buy "silent" cooling fans for very little money which would reduce your noise even more..
Use canned air to get

I was just taking apart my desktop and cleaning it up/blowing off the dust using a pressurized air gun (not too pressurized), and now that I have the nuts and screws back on, I plugged it in and the loudest noise began to come from the cooling fan.

It sounds as if theres something hitting the fan as it turns, this only happens on start-up for about 5 seconds as the fan blows at full speed. I did a visual inspection and there was nothing close to the fan, all wires were tucked away. What should I do?

Answer:Loud noise coming from fan

It's possible that when you blew compressed air through the cooling fan, some grit/debris inadvertently got into the fan motor pinion. It should eventually work itself out, but if it's stubborn then try blowing more compressed air. You might also want to check if there's a lubrication port somewhere on it (some of these fans are completely maintenance free, but some can be lubricated).

I have a ~2 year old PC, that upon starting has a very loud fan noise, which gradually dies down after ~2 minutes, approx. when entering windows.
I attach a zip file with recording.
Occasionally the PC has become unresponsize as CPU working flat-out.

My PC spec can be viewed in my sig, it did come with a larger fan than required inside for cooling, and I have since doublede the RAM to 8Gb (after which I did experinece some other issues here).

Any ideas, or suggestion of further diagnostics I can do would be appreciated?

What model? Have you taken off the cover to look inside? Has it been moved recently? Sometimes a wire can get caught rubbing in one of the fan blades.Or it could be taking off.Let us know what you find.

I just got my new XPS 2710 a week ago. All things working perfectly (Windows 8 not too exciting)  except the fan noise. I have no application consuming CPU, memory is low and no network activity still I hear the fan running a bit higher than normal.
Does anyone has seen this or has recommendation before I call support and debug.

thanks

Answer:New XPS One 2710 loud fan noise

Hi pkmaster,
The fan could be running at a higher speed due to any Windows background services accessing the processor resources. However, I suggest you to run the hardware diagnostics to check if all the components are working properly and particularly on the Processor and the fan by following the steps provided in the following link:http://dell.to/OUGnqT
Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Hello everyone. I own a dell inspiron 9300 and I recently read that if i typed msconfig into the run tab on my computer and then disabled some of the items on there that it would run quicker. Well I did just that and then I tryed to switch it back and I can't. Now my internet connection won't work and it makes this extremely loud beeping noise for no reason. It's always been really slow and I thought I could speed it up. I only use it for going on the internet and for fixing my pictures. If anyone has any advice I'd really appreciate it. Thanks

I as far as I can remember have never had this loud noose before, but lately for a month or so? Ish? I've been having a series of loud noises from my pc, so loud that I can hear it even when playing BF3 with a headset! And so violent at times I can feel the keyboard vibrating lightly, and if I touch the PC it is vibrating decently softly.

I may be wrong but it seems it started after BF3, and thought it might be the fan or my PC really struggling with the game, but it does it even when I'm not playing.

It's sometimes just a softer sound, then will accelerate to a "burr, burr, burr" then go full auto into "brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr" occasionally very loud.

So here's the REALLY scary part: while playing Skyrim a very weird thing happened: it stopped. The sound of the game looped into a "drrrrrrrrrr" and I had to hold down the off button. Nothing else did anything. I rebooted and tested it again...sure enough: 30 seconds in I had to do the same thing. I gave it one last chance and decided I would try to discern if it did anything else notable, but the third time it was fine. I left the game open a while to see if it'd do it again, but it didn't.

So I'm scared. WTH is wrong with my PC? BTW it is kinda low on disc space...if that matters. Also the disc options are gone when I click on documents under the c\ drive and stuff...then again I had installed virtual drives...I dunno

Answer:Very loud and scary noise from my PC.

It's a windows 7 64bit 3.2 ghz i5? Or quad core. GT230 graphics card. And I "it stopped" I meant my pc. Not the noise. The monitor just started going as if it were preparing for screen saver mode.
