WiFi disconnects, must close and reopen laptop to reconnect

Question: WiFi disconnects, must close and reopen laptop to reconnect

Hey everyone,

I'm a college kid who has been having major issues with my laptop, I'm desperate for some help.

The problems:
My Wifi cuts out at random, and after that my laptop won't reconnect- or connect to any wifi- until I either close the lid, wait for the green light to go off, then reopen, or I restart. This always temporarily fixes the problem. (This actually happened when I first tried to submit this post, so I have to retype the whole thing . This happens within anywhere from 10 minutes to a few hours from when I reconnect to wifi, and it seems to be somewhat correlated to me opening new tabs (or submitting a new post ). I don't use my laptop for anything other than casual browsing and school work, so I don't have any weird programs that might cause this. No single event started this, but it's been happening for months. I'd really appreciate any help.

My system info:
OS Name Microsoft Windows 10 HomeVersion 10.0.14393 Build 14393Other OS Description Not AvailableOS Manufacturer Microsoft CorporationSystem Name DESKTOP-8UUH9ORSystem Manufacturer ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC.System Model X751LABSystem Type x64-based PCSystem SKU ASUS-NotebookSKUProcessor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz, 2197 Mhz, 2 Core(s), 4 Logical Processor(s)BIOS Version/Date American Megatrends Inc. Let me know if I need to provide any more information, preferably tell me how to provide that, too (complete computer noob).

Thank you all so much, I'd be so grateful for any help.

Preferred Solution: WiFi disconnects, must close and reopen laptop to reconnect

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

This Chromebook is quite possibly the most frustrating thing I've ever bought. Throwing aside the fact that the trackpad stopped working after a few days (which I assume is tied to a disconnection within the case), the internet continuously disconnects and, more frustratingly, won't reconnect without a restart. I notice it when I try to save a project or load a website. The bottom icon will show that wifi is not connected. I click the icon and reselect the network. The wifi icon will then change to show as connected but nothing will load. Interestingly, if I try to load a page (such as CNN.com), the status in the lower right-hand corner of the window suggests (to me) that it's loading some data (e.g. it will tell me it's loading... I don't know... cookies? I don't know anything about this stuff but it will show something along the lines of "loading cdn.[text].com/"). Anyway, it will eventually pause on the of the updates regardless of the website. When I open my network settings, it still shows as connected. It's only when I enter settings that it shows it's not connected and only after this point does my wifi icon go blank/zero bars (as opposed to showing an 'x'). No matter what I do, I cannot get connectivity without restarting and losing my work. Chromebook 14 (CB3-431)1-2 Months OldProblem exists on home and public networks.

Hi there,

I need help!

The wireless internet access of my laptop disconnects after every few hours of use, and does not reconnect for a good hour or so. During the 1 hour it constantly connects to the router, fails, breaks the connection, and tries over and over again. After an hour or so it just succeeds and internet connection is back and works fine again for some hours.

- wifi signal is excellent (full bars, sitting right next to the router does not make a difference)
- other devices have no trouble connecting to the router (smartphone, other laptop, etc, and they do not experience such hiccups)
- restarting the router does not help
- restarting the laptop also does not help
- The router actually registers my laptop connecting every minute, and then it disappears for the list of connected devices.
- I cannot ping the router (or anything else) from my laptop during this time.
- device manager says drivers are up to date

I am guessing its either my wifi card dieing, or I have some odd signal interference. Or maybe something else. Any ideas?

(asus laptop, win7, intel centrino wireless n-100 card, bt broadband service, bt home hub 5 router)

Answer:Wifi disconnects and fails to reconnect after prolonged use

Open Device Management and go into wifi properties, power management and uncheck turning it off etc.

Also download Linux Mint MATE and make bootable DVD/USB. Boot with it (no need to install) and see if it will work alright.

How do I fix the following problem?

While using my computer, I have no idea what triggers it but every so often, the WiFi will seem to randomly disconnect. If I try to reconnect, it says it fails to connect. However, if I restart the computer, the WiFi will automatically reconnect. The problem is when it disconnects every 10 minutes while I'm trying to do something, and I keep having to constantly restart my laptop just to stay connected to the internet. When this happens, the laptop is plugged in, and the option for disabling a network adapter to save power is disabled, so that shouldn't be the issue either.

This doesn't seem to be a problem with my Network or with my service provider, because it doesn't occur on any other internet enabled devices. My Xbox One and iPhone SE are both connected to the exact same WiFi and never experience this problem.

Why would restarting allow me to reconnect to it when I can't connect normally within the network options?
Why does it seem to disconnect in such random intervals of time?
How can I make it so my WiFi no longer disconnects on its own, constantly requiring computer restarts?

I've dealt with this problem for months and have no idea what causes it or how to fix it. I even had to restart my computer in the middle of typing this post just to get back my internet connection. Please help! I don't know if it's a problem with my laptop, with the OS, or what. I do know that the problem has pe... Read more

Hi,
My XPS 13 (Windows 10) disconnects from WiFi when it suspends, and is slow to reconnect on powering back up.  I have tried disabling "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" under Power Management options for the Broadcom 802.11 Network Adapter, but that doesn't solve the problem.  Does anyone know of other options to try to solve this?  Thanks!

Hey folks, I got a brand new Y580 with windows 8 a week ago ang I keep having problems with my wireless connection. Basically, when I'm in front of my computer and I use internet everything is fine. But when I leave the computer alone for a bit (maybe 2hrs), the WIFI disconnects. If I try to reconnect, it cannot. But if I put the "airplane mode" on and off (a.k.a. resetting the adapter), it works fine again. I'm really annoyed because I typically access my computer from work using TeamViewer and everyday, by the time I get to work, the WIFI is lost. Then when I come back home, I see that the computer is simply not connected. It is not a problem with my internet since my EEE PC keeps the connection without any issues and I can remotely connect to it anytime. What I've done: - installed latest centrino drivers- tried latest intel PROSET drivers- tried Lenovo PROSET drivers- tried without the intel PROSET drivers Also my wifi connection is set up to:- always connect/reconnect to my house internet- wifi adapter cannot be turned off to save energy And my computer never goes to sleep. Any ideas? Thanks!

Answer:Y580 - Wifi disconnects after a few hours... and doesn't reconnect.

hi pasei, have you tried to disable "save power" option?right click my computer > manage > device management > network adapters > find your wireless adapter > double click > on power management tab, make sure "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" unchecked

When I am wirelessly connected to the internet and I close the lid on my laptop my internet loses connection. I have the settings on 'choose what to do when you close lid' set to 'do nothing'. What else do I need to do? Thanks

Answer:Internet Disconnects When I Close Laptop Lid

I had this on Vista and cured it by fiddling around in the Networking and Sharing section in control panel/Internet options/Connections/Lan settings. It could have been ticking 'Automatically detect settings' that fixed it but it was a long time ago.

Hi, I have Lenovo B570 with windows7 installed. To avoid internet disconnection problem, I changed settings in Control Panel as follows:
In Power Options, then in advance settings I selected options "Do Nothing" When laptop lid closes...
It resolves my problem partially... After closing the lid if system does not get lock then internet connection works fine but if system goes to lock state (this happens when lid closed time is more than 20 mins) then after login, the internet connection is visible as disconnected.
Any suggestions?

Are your drivers updated to the newest one avaible ??

Also you can try disabling this:

I have a U310 running Windows 8.1 that has had issues since it was purchased 1.5 years ago. The SSD died shortly after purchase, and was replaced by Lenovo (but not programmed at all...they just threw a new SSD in and no formatting was done). This computer does not boot quickly, but I can live with that. The real issue is the WiFi connectivity. This unit recognizes my home network, but often will not connect. After turning WiFi on/off, or disconnecting and reconnecting, it often says that the network is connected but the signal is limited. Alternatively, it will say the computer is connected to the network with full bars, but the internet will not load and Chrome (and other browsers) do not recognize a connection. All other wireless devices in my home work perfectly and NEVER drop the connection. This Lenovo is the only unit experiencing any issues. I've re-installed the WiFi drivers, but no change in activity was noted. Any help will be greatly appreciated. I don't want to purchase a new computer, but this unit needs to be able to connect to WiFi reliably.

For a few days now, my laptop keeps randomly disconnecting from the wifi. The wifi is fine -- it still works on other devices -- and is still available with full bars but refuses to reconnect unless I restart my laptop, at which point it'll be connected and working fine again (until the the next time).
I've tried updating the wireless adapter drivers and turning off WiFi Sense but no dice.

Hello,
I am a network admin deploying Windows Server 2008r2 with Internet Explorer 9 as terminal servers, I am having trouble with an ActiveX element in one of our internal pages. The page requests the CAB file with three files being an INF, OCX &
a DLL.
Running the page as an Administrator. Opening the page for the first time, IE hangs as it gets the CAB file and then will present UAC to allow it to install the ActiveX as an Add On for IE. Each time you come to the page after it will work fine.
Running the page as a user, Every time the user access the page after logging on IE hangs and then will put a red cross in the ActiveX section of the page. If you then close and reopen IE it will then allow the ActiveX element of the page to work fine. The
issue is that the user would have to do this each time they logged on.

Why does the page not work first time the users access the page?
Regards,
Mark

You could try IE Reset, "IE > Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Reset button". You lose your add-ons but they soon come back with usage. Your favorites etc are retained. Is this only on one webpage? If so give us the link in case that tells us something. If you have an alternative browser does it happen on there too?I suppose malware is a vague possibility but it doesn't obviously fit the symptoms.Always pop back and let us know the outcome - thanks

At the suggestion of some troubleshooting sites I have uninstalled Silverlight and reinstalled it --- this seems to make a temporary fix, but in a couple of days the problem returns. I have done the same with JAVA with no change.
The problem seems to reside in Internet Explorer, since it does not occur with I use Firefox. Anyway, the error slows down my computer when using the web.

Answer:A Problem with this webpage caused Internet Explorer to close and reopen the tab

Open Internet Explorer in Safe Mode without Addons. Browse some sites. If you find that you do not now face any problems, it means that one of your IE add-ons is creating a problem.
Use the IE Addon manager to disable the add-ons one after the other and try to find the offender. To manage browser add-ons in Internet Explorer, open IE and press Alt+X to open Tools. Here you will see Manage add-ons. Click on it Once you have identified it disable ot remove the addon. Details - Manage Browser add ons..
Run AdwCleaner to see if you have any malicious add-ons installed.
If nothing workw, you may need to Reset Internet Explorer settings to default.

Hi, I registered here because I'm having a problem with VPN on Windows.

I started using a private VPN for video gaming in general since last month, but I've started running into a problem I cannot fix... my PC tends to disconnect from the VPN after a while (6~12 hours of use?) and I can't reconnect to any VPNs until I reboot my PC.

However.. my normal internet connection works fine... at least it seems to be OK.

When I try to reconnect to the VPN after I get dropped, I'm welcomed by this error:

I'm on Windows 7 64bit and I use the default windows VPN client... idk what's it called, it's what you setup in the network and sharing center.

I've tried the following things:

*diagnose the issue with windows 7 network diagnostics
*/flush DNS cache
*/release and /renew lease
*reset internet connection
*using a neighbor's internet connection and I'm still unable to connect to any VPN until PC reboot.

Hello everyone,

For about a month now, my pc randomly disconnects from the wi-fi network (my home network) I was connected to, mostly (actually almost exclusively) when I am on Youtube watching videos. Sometimes it happens after 10 min, sometimes after 2h. I can't reconnect to any available wi-fi network in range, and can only regain connection and internet after restarting my pc. Other devices connected to the network don't have any problems.

Network adapter: Qualcomm Atheros AR9485 Wireless Network Adapter
Drivers are up-to-date.
No AVG installed.
Restarting the network adapter doesn't help.
Malwarebytes, HitmanPro, Spybot, AdwCleaner all return clean scans.

Can anyone please help me?
All suggestions are welcome!

Thanks in advance!

Answer:PC randomly disconnects (when on Youtube), can't reconnect

Open up a Command Window and enter the following command: netsh wlan show all

That will give you everything you need to know. Usually a poor connection can be due to congestion on that channel, weak radio in the Access Point, or too far away and your laptop keeps wanting to find a better connection.

My router is often getting disconnected from the internet and it cannot connect again before I reboot it. It is an Encore ENTR-104-2 router and I set it to reconnect automatically - however when disconnected it does connect automatically (and neither manually if I try) and I have to reboot it to be able to connect again. I bought this router a few months ago and did not have any problems until the past few weeks, when it has started getting disconnected every 3-5 days. I have tried downloading a new firmware from the Encore site, but did not find any for my exact model, and the nearest one I found was not accepted by my router.

I contacted my ISP who stated there is no problem at all with my connection.

A log of my router is reproduced below. It was taken when I found my router disconnected, and I even tried to reconnect manually, but to no avail. Any ideas/suggestions would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

I saw this thread

http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/448767/wireless-connection-stuck-on-acquiring-network-addressforever/

First, I want to say that I don't think there was ever a malware problem on this machine, a Lenovo R500.

It worked ok for a long time, but a year or so ago it started disconnecting from the wireless network.
It would say connected, and "acquiring network address" but it never completed.

I did a network tcp/ip reset on it, that didn't change anything. I got another identical wifi /bluetooth card and changed it, no difference.

A few days ago it was working, then stopped with the "acquiring network address", and as a test I gave it a static IP on the local network and it connected. It worked until I shut down.

Today, I booted up, same static IP configured, and it worked OK for about an hour.  Then it stopped working and said "acquiring network address" even though it had a static number configured. I checked!  Very odd.

I started reading threads, including the one I referenced above. I compared some of the regedits that were recommended then, but nothing really stood out.

I did notice that even though the Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service is marked as started and automatic, the start/stop buttons are grayed. I could not determine for sure that it's running or not, but I admit I don't know that it needs to be running.

Everything has been working like a charm on my new PC build. The only thing I have been having issues with is more of an annoyance. PC goes to sleep then pc makes the usb disconnecting/reconnecting noise. I cant find out how to stop the noise from happening.
All my usb devices work fine once the pc comes back up. I tried to disconnect one device at a time and it does it with all the usb connections no matter what is connected. Any help?

I seem to be having some issues with my remote desktop connection. Im connecting from my work (Win XP Pro) to my home laptop(winxp Pro). My home laptop is behind a firewall(port 3389 open), and then behind a router (incoming connections to my routers ip address are port forwarded to 3389, which should be my remote desktop).

Now this worked fine for the first hour I tried, then perhaps I was idle for a while and it disconnected, and now it wont connect back, I get the following error:

"This computer cant connect to the remote computer.

Try connecting again. If the problem continues, contact the owner of the remote computer or your network administrator."

I know the laptop is still connected as I can see my home download logs from my isp...

I have recently subscribed to a local cable ISP and have a Linksys wireless router broadcasting throughout my house. About every half hour, my wireless internet icon in the task bar flashes that it is connected to my home connnection at full signal, and then just after, disconnects.

I am running a toshiba laptop with windows XP pro SP3
In Wireless Network Connection Properties, I have my home internet connect configured at the top of the list in wireless networks, the box that says "use windows to automatically configure..." is checked. Under my connection's properties, it is set to connect even if it's not broadcasting, and to connect when it is in range.

Even when it disconnects, you can see that it still shows up in my wireless networks list at full signal, but it does not automatically connect.

Any suggestions?

Dialup internet

I have an issue where I will dial up fine, surf internet fine for 20 minutes to an hour,
then I get disconnected without any warning. I still have the little network icon saying I'm connected, but I don't send or recieve packets. I'll get "(webpage) cannot be found" if I open my browser. If I pick up the phone, I get a dial tone, so it drops the connection completely. When I try to dial up again, it dials, handshakes and connects as usual, but the same thing happens immediately, no packet traffic, so I can't bring up any pages at all.

I don't have any indication of any other problem, puter runs fine, as fast as I've seen any puter surf on dialup. Oddly enough, when I ping my default gateway, it gives me 4 replies, even though I can pick up the phone and be able to tell I'm not connected. I've reinstalled tcp/ip. The only thing I haven't done is a destructive recovery.

As a workaround, I can uninstall my modem and reboot, and it will connect sucessfully and let me browse again, but the same thing will happen again in half an hour. Sometimes I can ininstall and then add the modem immediately using 'add new hardware' wizard without reboot and get reconnected, but if I reinstall it any other way (manual driver file, 'add modem', etc.) it has the same proble... Answer:dialup disconnects, cannot reconnect without modem reinstall

A PCI modem is 100% (or near enough to 100%) controlled by the CPU in real time.

That means it is 100% reliant on every other piece of sofware and hardware installed to "play nicely" with it or all hell breaks loose.

It is likely a driver bug, but also likely that there may be little you can do about it. WHile the makers try and assure compatability they cannot possibly know of every environment in which the modem will be required to work.

Upgrading drivers (where they exist) is always a good starting point, but given the ultra low cost of these modems, replacing it is another alternative.

I can assure you from experience, the old PCI modems make a satisfying "clunk" when you chuck them in the bin.

When I had my PCs on dial-up, I relied on an external RS232 serial connected modem, which contains its own CPU and has no reliance on the PC's CPU. Never another proble.

USB modems are usually PCI modems "in drag" so are also best avoided.

My laptop is randomly disconnecting from my new router. Sometimes it's every few minutes, sometimes it can be an hour or two in between disconnections. This only seems to effect wireless devices and I notice it most often on my laptop. The router is a Fritz!Box 7490 and is connected to 2degrees Internet. The message in the WLAN event log is :

Wireless LAN device deregistered itself (5 GHz). MAC address: 64:BC:0C:6A:79:62

The weird thing is that if I disconnect from wifi and reconnect it re-establishes the connection near instantly. Sometimes it just shows as connected to wifi but not to the internet.

I have tried factory resetting the router (As suggested by 2degrees Internet) and I've tried setting my laptop DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. I have also tried to change the wifi channels in case of interference.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome and I'm happy to provide extra info on request. Thank you for your attention.

I currently have an Acer Aspire E5-571 that I have been using for about a year and a half. Recently, the laptop would randomly freeze, even though I only surf the internet. Then, at the same time the wifi would disconnect and would refuse to connect again. It is not my router at fault because the same thing occurred with different other wifi networks. I completely reset it but had the same problems. I tried troubleshooting and they said that the wifi adapter was broken. I replaced the wifi adapter but the same thing happened. I also updated the Intel driver but nothing changed. Other details that may be relevant: Disk is sometimes 80%-95% even when there's only 0.1mb Laptop temperature is about 40-55 degrees, and all I do is surf the internetWhen the laptop disconnects from wifi, restarting it or turning "wifi" on and off may reconnect it I did not download any viruses or any other content before this started happening. I scanned it for viruses and nothing came up.I tried restarting the laptop after it froze one time and it showed the blue screen with the face. When disconnected, there are no available networks listed when you click the wifi icon on the right side of the taskbar.Wifi adapter said "disabled" and couldn't enable itselfAny advice would be greatly appreciated, thank you!

Good afternoon all,
I'm having the following problem with some PCs on a domain at work (and the "official" admin is a bit puzzled too, let alone me, the "unofficial" local admin :-) ).
The scenario: there are a few PCs (with either Windows 7 Pro or XP Pro) with networked drives which point to a Windows 7 Pro PC acting as a server.
We can get these networked drives working nicely, then without warning, the "client" machine drops it's connection, and we can't reconnect the network drive without rebooting the "server". (A message comes up something like "the network drive is already in use".)
The admin is puzzled because Windows 7 Pro can support 20 concurrent network connections (or so we believe) and when we run "netstat" on the "server" there aren't anything like 20 connections; 12 maybe, but not 20.
Has anyone got any ideas I can try?
Thanks in advance,
Roger V.

I am about to blow my brains out over this , i bought a samsung series 5 windows eight laptop nearly a month ago, been having trouble with my wireless ever since, no other computer or intternet connected device in my household has this problem it is only my windows eight laptop.

Windows eight is annoying enough without this problem but this is the last straw, tried to ring technical support got through to a terrible microsoft employee who tried to connect me to the technical department which had closed two hours before hand . You think he would of known this before he tried to connect me right ?

Anyways i need help, my computer constantly loses connection to the internet even though i have full wireless signal and it give me limited access(meaning i can do nothing), now for all you brainiacs who will comment go into power settings and un tick box that says let device manager turn off wireless to save battery, i already tried this fix to no avail, so is there any decent people out there with some answer?

Hello. My computer's internet disconnects when I put it to sleep, as if I hit the disconnect button. When I restart it, I have to manually reconnect to my network, and it takes quite a long time. It says "this is taking longer than usual." Before this happened, I had an issue where the internet would disconnect randomly every 20 or so minutes due to a gateway issue. I ran the troubleshooter and it fixed it every time, but it got frustrating. I finally installed some drivers, and the gateway issue was fixed, but this issue presented itself. Thanks in advance.

You might want to disable the Power Mode setting of your Wi-Fi adapter in Device Manager see if that helps, here's an image.

Can you also try a wired connection if possible and see if you can replicate the issue?

The phones are still on the network and I can get to them by their IP address, but they do not show up on my DHCP lease list, ever. Sometimes, the phones will reconnect by themselves, but will disconnect again in 5-15 mins.

With the PC still on and connected to the network, a hard reboot of the phones will get them working again, for that 5-15 minutes. If the phones are hardwired to the router, they work pretty flawlessly.

Issue started about a month ago, each fix I try only works for a few days to a week before the issue happens again, and I can't use the same fix to take care of the problem. I've reinstalled the drivers for my killer 2200 multiple times, did a system restore, used command netsh winsock r, disabled and re enabled the wireless card, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the network adapters. I have a very disturbing problem with my wireless card. After a random period of time (differing from a few minutes to a few days), wifi card disconnects from network and shows yellow star tray icon. When this happens, the icon doesn't respond in any way. It also won't automatically reconnect, no matter how long you wait. Left or right clicks on the tray icon don't work. The only way to get it to respond and connect again is to disable and re-enable the device manually by visiting Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections. As soon as I hit Disable, the popups of previous clicks suddenly appear all at once. I have tried a lot of possible problems. - Disabling all other network adapters - Changing all possible configurations (2.4GHz <> 5GHz, 20Hz <> 40Hz, 802.11n only <> bgn mixed, all of them) - All possible power settings are set to maximum performance,  in both windows & lenovo power settings - Disabling Microsoft Virtual Miniports and even the hosted network service Please help or fix the driver if it's responsible. It's a business laptop. I have automatied processes requiring network. ThinkPad W541Card: Intel Wireless 7260ACDriver version: 18.11.0.8 (latest from Lenovo)OS: Windows 7 x64 (up to date) The notebook is in a fresh state, no registry hacks applied whatsoever and no software is installed that could possibly do something with wifi drivers.

> All possible power settings are set to maximum performance,  in both windows & lenovo power settingsI took my first Thinkpad back over a similar problem. The tech claimed it was due to a power-saving Wifi "feature" which he showed me settings for. I had already toggled off other wifi power saving options, but apparently such settings exist in multiple places. IIRC one setting was burried in Lenovo PowerManager under Power Agenda -> Battery StretchAnother one is in Lenovo Access Connections under Tools --> Global Settings --> Allow wireless radios to be turned offThere was another setting elsewhere, but darned if I can recall where. I wasn't going to risk another long trip and insisted on new hardware.

Older laptop disconnects from hotel wifi at regular intervals about every 45 seconds?

It is a dell d600. it supports wpa2 but i think there maybe a problem with tkip/aes or something. This is the second time I have stayed at a hotel with it. And it connects but then disconnects after 45 seconds or so, kind of like it is on a timer or something...

I have a newer laptop and it stays connected.

So anything I can do about this problem? Or I need a new wifi card? Thanks

Hi,
I purchased a Dell Inspiron 15 5000 series laptop (5558) in October 2015 from the Dell store in Amazon. It was shipped with Windows 10 pre-installed (I didn't have to upgrade). The laptop is generally functioning very well and I don't see any hardware issues.
The one issue I'm facing since the time I bought my laptop is that the WiFi disconnects automatically (after a while). There's no specific time period at which this happens, but it happens nonetheless if I leave it alone for a significant period of time (anywhere b/w 30 minutes to a few hours). I mostly leave the laptop on (throughout the day). Each time the only option I'm left with is to restart the laptop which fixes the issue.
Another thing that I observed whenever this issue happens is that all options regarding WiFi don't work. For eg: I tried disabling and enabling the WiFi driver. I clicked on the disable option multiple time and it doesn't do anything. However, when I restart the system, the driver is disabled and I have to manually enable it for WiFi to connect.
Other Devices: I used to have a Dell XPS 13 before and it used to work fine and my office laptop is a Dell Latitude and it doesn't have this issue either. I also connect my phone (Samsung S5) and tablet (Nexus 9) to the same network and no issues.
Details:

OS: Windows 10 (shipped with laptop in Oct 2015)
Internet: Comcast 50 Mbps

Hello

Suddenly laptop find only close wifi signals and even tho i'm sitting next to router i get like 2-3 bars. I use to see all my neighbours signals, but now i'm only seeing mine. Same happens with any other router or place i am.
I have asus x55a, windows 7 i have tried to update my wireless drivers.

Answer:Suddenly laptop find only close wifi signals.

Try reseating the wireless adapter

If the adapter is easily accessible, usually through a cover on the bottom of the laptop.
Remove the power adapter and also the Battery before doing the following
Remove and reinsert carefully and firmly several times to cure any possible looseness or corrosion.
At the same time check to make sure the antenna leads are securely attached.

Note: This is not taking the machine apart. I do not recommend removing the keyboard when that is necessary to find the wireless, unless you are experienced in this sort of disassemble.

There are often some good examples of how to disassemble laptops on "youtube" and you should see if the wireless card is on the bottom of the laptop

Heres an example (they do vary) of a wireless card - with the clips where the aerial leads usually clip

If anyone could find my errors and assist me I would greatly appreciate it.

This is a strange issue only in Win8.1.

As we all known, if there is a running application in a machine, there should not be any other behavior against the application when we connect/disconnect/reconnect to this machine by Remote Desktop Connection. However, we found that Win8.1 will
fire unload and load events to the WPF application when we close and reconnect to the machine using RDC. And this is an unwanted behavior which may cause error. Here are the stable reproduce steps:

1. Write a WPF application which contains a button and handles the unload and load events of this button.
2. Using RDC to connect to a Win8.1 from Win7 for example.
3. In the remote desktop, run this WPF app.(a load event will be recorded in a.txt).
4. Close the RDC by clicking the 'x'.
5. Connect to this Win8.1 again.
6. You will see the unload and load events have been fired.

If the WPF app runs in Win7 or Win server 2008, those events will not be fired.

So, I think it is a unwanted behavior in Win8.1. Is that a bug in Win8.1 RDP? Or is that a new feature? I'm looking forward the answer.

Thanks,

Peng

Hello all,

My network connection may need some troubleshooting. Here is what I did, tried to install latest drivers (but newer drivers were already installed). Then I did a fresh repair install with the same problem.

What is going on is this: Internet connection (wifi) requires a login through Cisco's client portal, it is a guest account.

Many times the internet connection does not connect and the close button appears with my home wifi connection not displaying. Also the speeds are not as what they should be at times.

Do I have a virus or something or is this a normal problem?

Answer:Toshiba Laptop - Internet disconnects, frequent disconnects

Welcome to the Tenforums @jinzu

I assume this started recently. If not the information below may fix but we should check interference from other networks. So assuming this started recently.

You may want to disable IPv6. This link was provided by @Fafhrd

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/...nts-in-windows

If that does not resolve please go to Toshiba's web site and download their driver for your wireless card. Its older. Install. Test. If this provides stability we have to shut off Windows updating drivers.

So my computer won't reconnect to any wifi network after it resumes a suspend. This happens with all networks, secured and unsecured. I have to manually reconnect, when this is done, it doesn't always reconnect the first time. Some times I have to attempt to reconnect multiple times before I get it to work. I believe this problem after I installed the Sprint broadband card manager. I removed the software but I am still getting the problem. I also ran an System File Checker on the system and it didn't do anything either.

Anybody know what can cause this and how to fix it? Thanks.

Answer:Wifi won't reconnect after resuming suspend

This is part of your Screen Saver settings. You need to go into your Advanced power settings and stop your computer from putting your devices into sleep.

since i see you are using windows 7

Right Click on your desktop and select Personalization

Bottom right click on Screen Saver

Change Power Settings >>> Change Plan Settings

then Change Advanced Power Settings

After doing one of the ThinkVantage updates, I don't know which, I have had a problem with WiFi. After Sleep or Hibernation the WiFi will not connect to network.  I have to run the troubleshooter and it will often fix it and reconnect.  Sometimes I have to reboot. There is also an annoying problem that even when it is connected and working fine, the tray icon still show the network icon with a red x, instead of the bars of a wireless connection.  I do not know if these problems are related. I have T510 with Windows 7 32-bit.

I was found only one automated solution [advertizing removed by mod]. May be some one knew a free solution? Because $30 is a cool price for me.

Answer:How to reconnect to wifi network automatically?

It is a lot of articles about how to automatically connect to ad hoc networks at Windows 7/Vista (since Windows Vista you can't do this), it uses a windows profiler to perform this operation, but I'm afraid this solution is not suitable for you, cause actually you will have to run the task every fixed period of time.

p.s. at the link you provided price is $15.

Wifi will work fine, and then for no apparent reason drop the connection.  Even though I can see the Wifi network, it will not reconnect when I try.  The only solution is to reboot, which so far always works.  Problem is that it will then drop Wifi connection again, usually in less than 30 minutes.  Will happen over and over again over a couple hour period.  Use a hard connection daily at work, so problem happens when I travel or try to use laptop from home.

Answer:Wifi randomly drops and will not reconnect

How far are you from the wireless access point? Is this an onboard wireless adapter (i.e.: inside of a laptop via mini-PCI card and an antenna array around the lid) or is it an expansion card (i.e.: PCMCIA card, express card, PCI card, PCI-Express card)?Did you go to the PC manufacturer's site (or the card manufacturer's site) and download updated drivers?  If not, try that.

I have a Dell LatitudeD400 with Windows XP. Whenever I close my laptop to do something for a short time (with it still being on)- and reopen it- is flashes a blue screen for short time (short enough that I cant see what it says) - and then it restarts. The computer works fine and it has been doing this since I got it two years ago.

If I go to Standby manually, by going to start->shut down computer->standby it works fine. I just have to leave the lid open the whole time and when I press the power button, type my password, and all is well. No idea what is going on...

Hey guys/gals!

This problem just recently started happening with my computer. I'll be playing a video game or surfing the web or whatever and all of a sudden my wifi connection will drop.

So I'll click the wifi symbol at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to reconnect... but even though it will say that there are connections when I hover over the icon, the list of possible connections will be blank.

I uploaded a screenshot to imgur so you can see for yourself: http://i.imgur.com/qAC5YX1.jpg

The only way for me to fix this problem is to system restore to a few days ago. But this is getting pretty tedious.

Help please?

Hi, I have a T440p with the intel 7260AC wifi card. I recently upgraded my HDD to an SSD and did a clean windows 7 install. Now, when waking up from sleep, it alwas takes about a min before it reconnects to a wifi network. The reconnect used to be instantaneously.I turned off the setting in power management of the Intel 7260AC to "allow the computer to turn off this device to save power". But this didn't solve the problem. I also have the latest intel wifi 7260AC drivers 17.0.2.5.Anybody knows what could be causing this?

Wifi dongle I'm using is this a DLink DWA-140

Background info: I connect to the internet through my ISP's supplied router, i've set it up with my own SSID and my own password, it works perfectly fine with my android phone, my GF's iPhone, my tablet, my laptop, her laptop, her iPad.. but not with my PC running windows 10.The problem: When i boot, it doesn't always automatically reconnect to my wifi, despite having it checked as "connect automatically". My wifi dongle can see every other wifi network within 20 miles, EXCEPT my own wifi. Go figure?!
In order to get it to connect i have to hit "Connect to Hidden network", type in SSID, type in the password, which windows will prompt me is incorrect, hit cancel, wait a second, and BAM it connects to my wifi.

Hi, I'm new to this forum and hope the community can help me. This problem has been driving me nuts.
I have a Belkin F5D8632 wireless N router, and have just moved into a new apartment building. I set up my router and found that the wifi regularly drops (on all devices) and doesn't reconnect until I perform a reboot. Wired devices are unaffected. The wireless drop seems to happen fairly quickly when the connection is in use, but it will last slightly longer if the connection isn't subject to heavy traffic.
I have this app on my phone and can see that there are numerous networks around me, taking up most channels. The app shows that the least congested channels are 2 and 13, but they still overlap with relatively strong signals from other apartments.
I've tried several channels but I can't get the wifi to remain constant. I'm not even sure that it's channel congestion that's causing the problem...
Will I ned to buy a dual band router in order to make use of the 5GHz band, avoiding interference with neighbors? I'd really rather avoid having to do this as it would mean replacing all my wireless cards with 5GHz capable ones. Mine and my girlfriend's mobile phones also only support 2.4GHz connections.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm about to throw my laptop out this very high window.

Every time I use my Y530 for a few hours the Wifi internet connection drops out and the whole systems slows down to a crawl.  Although I am still connected to my router I can no longer connect to the internet.  When i disconnect and reconnect, or use the hardware wireless switch to turn the wireless off and I, then the system can't locate ANY wireless networks.  The only way to get connected is to shutdown and restart the machine.  I have tired removing Readycomm and that did not help.  BTW, I'm using Vista.  At this point I'm frustrated enough to get rid of the machine.  Anyone find a fix to this frustrating problem?  Thanks for any suggestions.

I couldn't find a suitable answer or solution to my problem upon a search here, so here goes a new post. First of all - the subject is indeed right: wifi for my laptop is not getting reconnected unless I reboot the system, or else get "support from LAN cable". I have explained below..!It is a 15" T42P (type 2373 N49) having 2GB RAM, 128 MB ATI Mobility FIREGL T2 and a 9 cell battery. Ever since i got this laptop as a used one, off-lease, I have noticed this behaviour with respect to wireless connectivity. It doesn't get disconnected for no reason, so in that way it is working fine. But when for some reason, say if power goes off and comes back, the router gets restarted, and therefore it tries to reconnect wifi but fails (unless the LAN cable is already hooked up to the laptop). It doesnt even show/detect wireless signals nearby during this time. Even if it does detect, it tries to reconnect but fails. NOW, the funny thing is, if I am not having the LAN cable connected, when I am not sitting near the router, so I have to take the laptop physically near to the router and then connect the LAN cable,... in a flash,.. it shows wireless connected and so also the ethernet (ofcourse).Another way to bring back the connection (So far, I have experienced ) is to reboot the system and wireless gets automatically re-connected. It indeed is a mess to get up and get hooked to get the wifi back. Anyway It may be some what fine during the day, but say if I have left the s... Read more

As of the past month, my internet connection would drop evrry 10 minutes or so. However after manually disconnecting and reconnecting, my connection would be fine again for another 10 minutes or so. I am positive this is an issue with my PC as it is the only device affected in the household. I have also used the same PC round another person's house but the same error seemed to occur. I have since tried to rectify the problem by changing wireless card, but the same problem still arises. Is there anything I can do to find out what it is with my PC that is the issue? (software or hardware). Help of any form would be appreciated.

Answer:WiFi Connection keeps dropping, but resumes after manual reconnect.

On Windows 8.1 pro, my computer would instantly connect to the wifi network from sleep.

However, when I upgraded to windows 10 pro, the computer takes about 1 minute to reconnect to the network (which is very annoying).

I have turned off the "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" option for my network adapter, but this does not change anything.

Does any body know how to fix this (or just prevent the computer from disconnecting from the network entirely during sleep as this is a desktop and I don't care about power management)

Thanks heaps in advanced!

I prefer to keep my home WiFi network from public view by disabling the SSID broadcast, i.e "hiding" the network.

With two modem/routers (a Belkin Play Max F7D4401 ADSL modem/router and now a Cisco EPC2325 DOCSIS modem/router) on two computers (home-built desktop and Acer TM8172T notebook), after the initial connection Win8 Pro would not reconnect without tediously re-entering the SSID name and password. Once it does connect, it displays the original SSID name with a new one with an incrementally increasing appended number like:

I was manually deleting them all (except the original) using netsh, until I realized you can <right-click> on an entry in the screen above and choose "Forget this network."

This is the process I go through each time to re-connect. Is there something I'm missing?

I read that if Win8 saves too many WiFi connections, it cannot "remember" them to automatically reconnect to them, so on the notebook, I deleted all but wpcTrue (the original), and it now automatically reconnects, although occasionally it will add a new connection with an incrementally increased number -- currently the notebook shows both wpcTrue and wpcTrue 2. I had used the notebook on the road, so had about five WiFi connections saved. On the Desktop my home network is the only WiFi connection I've ever made. However, no matter what I do on the desktop, it NEVER remembers to automatically log on when the SSID is not broadcast.

I even tried... Read more

By not best workaround is to delete all profile, do a 1st connection to hidden network then disable automatic connection to the network; hidden network will be listed and it will be possible to manually click on connect button.

I recently bought a y500. Often when I use the laptop wifi connection becomes "limited access" by itself and when disconnect then try to connect again, it doesn't work. The wifi popup won't even appear. The same happens whe n I just disconnect the wifi and reconnect again even when it doesn't turn into "limited". Everytime this happens I have to restart the machine, which is very inconvenient and even worse it won't restart properly because it gives me a blue screen which says "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE". By this point I realised it's a driver problem. I went to atheros website and installed the latest WLAN driver for my computer. This makes the blue screen to appear less often (sometimes still happens for the same reason). And the reconnnection problem still persists like before. PLEASE HELP!! :'(

Did not have any WLAN issues with my Y500 before. Try doing a one key recovery and see that helps. Also did you notice this when on Batt with AC or on Batt only?
