Only have this error message on one website so far, but I was able to visit it a few days ago with no problems. Not sure why anything has changed, can someone please help?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Clear the Cookies, etc for whatever web browser you are using. If using any third party security software, make sure that it is not blocking that website. Basic stuff that you need to go and check to make sure that it is not one of those two items causing it.

More repliesI was trying to download the latest version of UnrealTournament 2004 for my computer and you just get it from the universal site online. Only problem is I can not get there, due to this message, Forbidden:You don't have permission to access /index.php on this server. I have Mozilla Firefox, do you think it's that? Could Windows Vista do that to me? Should I try Internet Explorer? Any suggestions and/or solutions are greatly appreciated.

Hi! I have a strange problem accessing one partcular website and no other. Whenever I try to access reflexive.net from my home computer I get the following: Forbidden You don't have permission to access / on this server. A client of mine cannot update his AVG free because an error message states "Update failed . Access forbidden by server".I uninstalled AVG and installed a later version but the error persisted. The AVG forum provided a repair file called rmagent_en.exe but this did not cure the problem.Deatils are Windows XP home and IE7.Has anyone of you helpful chaps an explanation for this odd error message, or better still, a cure for the update problem?Searching the internet seems to point only to the rmagent solution which is a waste of time.Regards Awestruck
A long-shot, but get him to check his Firewall, may need to allow exception.Or, if this is something new/recent, try a System Restore back to when the updates worked OK.
7 more repliesI have Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 and I have msn.com as my home page. When I tried getting onto my home page a little bit ago, a notice came up that said "Server Error 403 - Forbidden: Access is denied. You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials that you supplied". I was able to go on other web sites fine and when I changed the home page (back to msn), the message went away. But other users on the computer have the same problem. I heard someone say it may be the result of a hijackware infection. Could that be the case or something else? Thanks.
Well, it looks like it's not an issue anymore. The other users home pages are working fine now. No error message or anything. Sorry for the trouble.
1 more repliesOn Windows7 Pro, trying to run IIS. The way I am used to execute is on the browser "localhost". I used to have the code in the directory C:\inetpub\wwwroot. Even before I copy, I am hoping to see
the image IIS welcome page. Once it is successful, want to copy the code as that was the way I used to do in Window XP. However I am getting the following message. I have administrator access to the machine and gave full permissions
to the folder 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'. Still the same message.
Error message 401.3: You do not have permission to view this directory or page using the credentials you supplied (access denied due to Access Control Lists). Ask the Web server's administrator to give you access to 'C:\inetpub\wwwroot'.
Can someone help me to address this issue. Thanks a lot in advance.

I have emailed them many times but get no response at all can anyone help me
Sounds to me like some program on your computer is blocking cookies or Private Headers like a firewall maybe?
Agh!
I keep getting this error everytime I try to get onto a certain site:
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access / on this server.
And I am not sure why. I can access the site when I am on a different network or through a proxy, but not from my home network. Is is possible that I was blocked from this site or something? Is there a way to get around this (other than a proxy)?
Can you tell us the site or give us a link to it so we can see if others get the same error.
Cheers!
I've been denied access to a Website directory but the webmaster says I should have access. What is wrong and is it my computer or their server?TIAConfused
It will most probably be their server.
1 more repliesDear all:
This question is about giving right permission for users to access a folder, which contains a MS Access file database. In this case, without using MS Access to grant Read/Write rights, I can use Server OS to control user permissions of Read/Write.
However, it has happened a few times that suddenly some of us who have Administrator rights were only able to read the data but not able to alter; in other words, our permission rights have changed from Administrator to limited users. (Admin has both read and write, limited users only have read only).
I checked on the Server end, the permissions (for accessing that folder) are given correctly (assigned within Active Directory).
I was trying to figure out how it happened, and suddenly, I was able to view the database as Admin again.
There seems to be a glitch with my network across MS platform or something... sometimes either I cannot view the computers/shared folders on network, or sometimes I cannot access certain directories with right permissions.
Gladly this does not happen often (like once a month). But still, I would like to fix it. If anyone knows anything about it, please feel free to share your knowledge -)
Thank you~~
When I try to open Yahoo email, Gmail OR get Windows Updates it won't let me. When I go to Windows Updates I get the following message.
Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:
Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
403 - Forbidden: Access is denied.
Does anyone know how to fix this? I've gone to "Tools" in Explorer, but I'm not sure which things to "enable." I don't want to enable everything and have something else go bad.
Thanks
Are you administrator on the PC? You will more than likely need to be.
Here's a KB from Microsoft that may help you. It has a "Fix it for me" option, which should help complete the steps successfully.

Hi Rich,
I receive the same message when I go to the website in VirtualBox. I used to get this error when I set incorrect permissions on my index file with CHMOD. Perhaps the website is being upgraded. This page is particularly odd since it actually loads the domain, yet still gives the error.
I would give it a few days and see if it's up again.

Hello there,
I use steam. So basically what's happening is that sometimes, randomly I get this error message because of which I can't connect to steamcommunity.com at all. This can be solved by disconnecting my dialup cable wired internet and reconnecting it.
But the problem is, it stays as long as 15 minutes and then the same error occurs again. It keeps on occurring the entire day and so on and it's really a drag to keep reconnecting my net every 15 minutes.
So, any solution ?
Thanks in advance.
Wow. I've caught something good. I cannot access any web based email program (even ones I don't use). Also, recently downloaded yahoo messenger 8.0 after having the problem, and now it won't let me log on. But wait, there's more!
I've noticed my Norton firewall settings were changed. It no longer comes on, and I cannot access it because it says I am not logged in and am not the administrator. Kind of boggled me, so I fired up my computer in safe mode and noticed my user account, a buddy's user account I set up a while ago which has been dormant for a while and now a new administrator account. I cannot uninstall norton firewall.
Also, another problem is that I'm running avast anti-virus, which I had set to come on automatically when I booted up and to check for new updates. Anyway, now it doesn't come up automaticallly. I've checked for stuff with avast with nothing found, removed some adware with Ad-aware and now I'm off work again, about to check with spybot.
Does anybody have any ideas of what I may have caught and a good way to deal with it? Dealing with it besides chunking my old PC and getting another? Thanks, Kenneth.
Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis
Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.
When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
CounterSpy - ONLY IF you were not able to run Windows Defender
Bitdefender - from step 6
Panda Scan - from step 6

More repliesGood day and thank you for reviewing this post.
I have been dealing with a computer that had multiple viruses ..... including the TDSS. I have successfully removed TDSS and others from machines using a cocktail of Vipre, MWB, Avast boot scan, and Combofix. I have probably done 10 of these in the past 2 months with no side effects.
Recently I have experiences 2 machines that refuse to access MS update site after full removal. I have "verified" my complete removal by running MWB and Vipre in safe mode and getting no hits.
I have tried Dial-a-fix, and I have followed the instuctions as MS for this 403 Forbidden error to no avail.
All else seems to work well ... web sites, email, programs, etc. The only thing I cannot seem to do is MS updates ... I can even update MWB and Avast ... but not MS updates.
Does anyone out there have any experience with this or suggestions as to what I should do to regain my ability to do updates?
Thank you very much for your time and advice.

The forum looks OK to me (as a guest) and I can get as far as the 'register' and 'login' pages too. It may be something corrupted in your browser's cache or its cookies. One quick check for that is to try the site in a private browsing window (so you won't have any existing cached pages or cookies). On all browsers except Chrome you can open one with Ctrl-Shift-P (on Chrome that is for 'Print'). If it works in private browsing then clear your browsers cache and the cookies for the site.

I don't even think it has something to do with the newly installed d-link, i think you got to check your provider?, your control list? and your ie itself maybe you have accidentally change some of the settings regarding your ie.

The error you're getting is generated by the website's server. It has nothing to do with your computer. It has to be solved by those who maintain the website.
So, there is nothing to worry about.
A friend has recently gone broadband with Tiscali. When he goes on-line he does indeed access the internet but he cannot load any web pages. Shortly have recent changes (stated above) the issue started with 5 users in parent domain. After existing user logs in applications like windows explorer, internet explore, will error with "windows cannot access the specified
device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate permission to access the item". Also, other applications will not run as they are attempting to resister OCX file and DLLs. cannot access computer management even after granting affected
user local admin rights. This issue has now transcended to child domain and is affecting at the moment only 1 existing user.
Unaffected users are able to login to same test computer and run applications without issue.
Clearly a domain permission problem with the user account, but not sure how to proceed.
For testing I gave affected users domain admin rights and the issue goes away. Remove domain admin rights and the issue returns for the user.
Any ideas?

Hello,
I am attempting to access an application.exe file on my desktop. Each time that I click on it the Windows message, "Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item." pops up. I am the system administrator so this should NOT be a problem but apparently many out there are dealing with this as well. I can delete, move and even copy the file but I cannot run it. There is no option for override with password or grant permission. It just says that I cannot run it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Also, the system I am running is Windows 7 Ultimate x64.
Hello KyRy, and welcome to Seven Forums.
You might check to see if you can right click on the file, click on Properties, click on Security tab, and make sure that you have Read & execute permission allowed (checked) for your user account or the administrators group.Permissions - Allow or Deny Users and Groups
If not, then you might see if you may be able to install and use the free program Unlocker on the file to have access to it afterwards.
Hope this helps,
Shawn
Hey everyone,
Thanks for this great website. This will actually be my first post here. I am having issues with my DNS configurations, under the IPV4 properties. I originally had it set to receive the dns server automatically, and now it is constantly changing to receive dns server through a static IP. The static Ip address that keeps getting assigned is 216.146.36.240. I do have internet access, but I my outlook which is setup with a exchange email address is not connecting because of this issue. I noticed that my homepage did change once, but I dont know if it was because of a software that I downloaded or virus related. Honestly, I am not sure what is causing this.
Things that I have already tried:
Booted into safemode and ran rkill followed by malwarebytes and superantispyware.
I didnt know I wasn't supposed to run it on my own, but I ran Combofix (sorry)
I ran Microsoft Security Essentials
I ran from a command line ipconfig /flushdns, and rebooted.
Thanks guys
I thought it was dyndns.org that was the issue, and i just realized it wasn't.
There is a software called Sendori, I uninstalled it. And that seemed to be the problem.
I run a windows 2003 server. I have about 10 computers connected to the network. Everything was working great, until I took a vacation. When I came back one of the computers could not connect to the network. Everytime I try to go to the network I get the message "\\servername is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions." I have not changed anything with the server. I have tried disabling the firewall on the computer that cannot connect. I reformatted the computer and the message still appears. Does anyone have any ideas?
It may have been dropped from the domain, happens from time to time. Try removing it from the domain and readding it.
I now get this error message trying to access network resources from a laptop that used to work just fine. My wife's similarly configured laptop continues to work fine. I regularly share drives and printers across all machines and all appear to work except for this laptop. I have found that I can pring the other computers without issue if I use the ip address and can "net use" the drives directly by specifying the ip address rather than the computer name. However, any attempt to use the computer name fails (as above or as a "System error 53 has occurred" in a command prompt). Using the [email protected] solves part of the problem but I cannot find a similar [email protected] workaround to get to my network printer successfully.
All computers are running XP professional. I have tried disabling firewalls. The laptop is a work-configured laptop (as is my wife's) and works fine connected to all manner of networks. As I mentioned, this machine worked fine a unil I noticed an issue about a month ago. This problem persists through re-boots.
Here is nbtstat -n and ipconfig /all from my laptop. Any and all ideas much appreciated.

Is there a good guide or tutorial to show you how to set up a file server with file permissions and access?
Hey I am sharing a program on the server and the clients can use it fine but when they click to open a blank diagram which is located inside of the same folder we get an error message stating it cannot find the path to the file. I have changed the security to allow the users to have full controll but it still has the same problem.

Hi all,
The server 'seems' to be operating fine but when I check the stats for the server (net stats server) I noticed there are over 300 permission violations. How can I find out what these permission violations are? There is nothing in the Event Viewer.
Thanks in advance.
I am trying to email a client and get the following message when it bounces back:
Connected to xx.xx.xx.xxx but sender was rejected.
Remote host said: xx xx Client does not have permission to submit mail to this server
I email this client frequently and now all emails to anyone in their company are bouncing back like this. I am going to call them today, but was curious what this meant before I call.
Thanks.

Ok, I posted earlier that I needed a solution to my problem, well I found one. I got the eval version of windows server 2003 (180 days to use it), my school is looking into purchasing a license as I type this.
Anyway, onto my problem. I have everything set up and running, DHCP server, DNS server, Active Directory, etc. Plus I have all the users created. Everyone can login (I have mandatory profiles set) and do their work and that's fine. However, here's my problem, I created a share directory called "Users", this directory contains all the user folders (by their full name, so "John Smith" for example). I have set the correct permissions and everything (I believe) but people get an error everytime they try and save, something along the lines of permissions not being set or the disk being read only.
Just to be clear, if person X is logged in, and they try and get into person Z's folder they get access denied (and vice versa )
I have each folder set (under the security tab of the properties box) so that "Administrators" and that particular user have FULL access to that folder, it's subfolder, and it's contents (on the advanced tab I have deselected the inherit permissions thing).
So any ideas on why they can't save in their designated folder?
share permissions take the most resterictive between ntfs permissions and sharing permissions no? make sure you have them configure correctly to allow the onwers to write to their dir.
i have just added a hotmail account to OE anddownloaded folders as well. my pop3 messagesdownload in seconds but hotmail take ages,nowwhen i click to recieve mail a zonealarm alertasks if i want OE to act as a server. is thisconnected with the slow hotmail connection andshould i allow OE server permmision. any help.thanks.
Yes you do want Outlook Express to act as a server, go into the program window in Zone Alarm and make sure you have four ticks in OE line, have a look in Start Up (RUN>MSCONFIG>STARTUP) and see what you have running this could be causing slow download, but Hotmail is not the speediest.
7 more repliesI've set up several users on my W2K server domain controller. I've set up several directories to be shared with 'everyone' on the network. Whenever I attempt to logon a workstaion as one of the users, I am told 'access denied'.
If I am making the resource available to everyone (with full read/write permissions), how can someone be denied access? Am I missing a step here?
The server is W2K Server, and all the workstations are W2K Pro...
permissions on a share is a separate set of information than login information. If you share something with everyone, it does not mean that everyone can log into a workstation. They will have to log in as a valid user, then connect to the share from there.
I have just set up a computer with Windows 7, and I'm apparently missing something simple, but I just can't find it.
I installed Windows 7 on the machine and everything works great. I then joined the computer to a 2003 Server domain. Everything still appeared to work fine. However, when I log into the domain on the Windows 7 computer, I don't have the correct permissions on the local machine.
I can access the domain. The login works fine. There are no errors. However, when I try and access anything on the local drive, like explorer.exe, it tells me that I don't have the permissions to access it. I can run some programs, in some directories (like Program Files), but if I try and run anything in the Windows directory, I don't have permission. I can access things on the domain, and I can even use Firefox to view the contents of domain machines, mapped network drives, and even the local C drive. I just cannot run anything that's in the local Windows directory.
I can access the local drive using either the domain administrator account, or the local machine administrator account. However, using either of those accounts, I'm not allowed to change permissions on that folder! I can see that the folder is set as read only, but when I attempt to remove the read-only flag (using either account), it tells me that I don't have permission to do that.
I've also tried to give the domain user administrator permission on the local machine, but that has no effect either. That part really con... Read more
This thread at TechNet seems to relate to your problem. It mentioned something about you need to set the password the same as the Administrator's password of the Windows 2000 system. And also you need to change the NTLM authentication level in Windows 7. Even though you are on server 03 this may still apply.
Read it here> Can't connect Windows 7 Pro to Windows 2000 server Domain.

HOW CAN I ACSESS THIS SITE?
For starters, where are you trying to access it from? Is this an Internet connection from home, college, business, etc? If it's a home connection, perhaps you should speak with your ISP to see if there are any issues. As for business and colleges: the people in charge of networking at these respective establishments would be the best bet.

We're in a domain at work and a user have a folder on the server that he usually syncs with from his computer. The problem is that when I right click on the folder and choose "syncronize" it gives me "permission error".
How do I fix this?
Hello everyone, I'm new here and I signed up specifically because I was told this place was great for helping people with really intractable problems.
I have a user, Markus, he's an engineer, and he likes folder structures. He's got a nice one set up on my server with very well-defined permissions for several groups for his engineering projects.
His computer: Core 2 Duo machine running Windows Vista, non-SP1.
Server is a Dell PowerEdge running Server 2003 SP2 with all the latest updates.
We are in a Windows 2003 domain which is running pretty smoothly.
Starting a few weeks ago, he has been having problems very sporadically where a file that has has been working with and saving frequently, in a directory he has full permissions to access, refuses to save over its previous incarnation.
To break that down: he'll be in Word, say, and he saves his file every fifteen minutes, and at some point it will refuse to save over the existing copy and it will instead pop up the Save As box. Happens in Word, Illustrator, and Pro-E, so it's not program specific.
It ONLY happens for this user, none of the others. This means to me that it is either user-specific or OS-specific, as he's the only one running Vista, too.
Some of the programs will spit out an oddly-named file (like "a3bdfe8c") before giving the error. I assume that this is because the program is attempting to save the file and then write over the old one, in an attempt to make it an ato... Read more

you might need to start in safe mode to load this prog or maybe you have a restricted account and need to be in an administrative account to do this.

There's a free version of AVG available to download - http://free.avg.com/gb-en/download-avg-anti-virus-free
If you're using a pirate copy of the full version, we can't help as we don't offer support for illegally obtained software, cracks or keygens.
Sorry if this has been covered elsewhere - if it has I couldn't find it - but I'm using Windows 7 and there seems to be two icons for My Documents. When I double click one of them I get the message 'You do not have permission to access this folder' which is very annoying especially since this used to happen with Vista and I'd hoped MS would've fixed the problem. Are there any solutions?
The location of XP folders like Documents & Settings and History are no longer in the same place. They are displayed when ?hidden files? are displayed but they are ?Junctions?, i.e. they are there for historical reasons so that old programs that would normally use them are redirected to the new Vista and Windows 7 locations. Junctions can be recognised by having a little padlock on the icon and cannot be accessed.You can see a list of these folders using a command prompt. Click the Windows Orb (Start) > Run, type cmd /k dir /al (note the three spaces) and press Enter. The results will be a list of all the Junctions for the user folders, showing the name of the old XP user folder and the name of the new folder in brackets.
2 more repliesHello Everyone, because I didn't want people to access my files and I needed to leave my PC turned on in the office, I went to my drive E properties, then security tab then edit and switched my controls from Full control "Allow" to "Deny" locked with a password. I checked it wasn't opening. There we go! Success.
Later on
Failure;
Because now even though I have the password removed, I re-installed my windows 7 to the same 32-bit version. It isn't opening
I changed the controls from full control "Deny" to "Allow" but I can't get access to them. I tried opening it somehow(don't exactly remember how) but still if I have to open up any of the files, I'll have to go to that particular sub folder and file to the properties, security tab, allow full controls and then it opens.
Now I have more than 8 thousand files in it.
Moreover, after re-installing my windows, I can't open my files anyway.
Can someone please help me. I'm assuming this website will notify me if someone leaves a reply to this thread.
Lets get this out of the way first. Are the file names green?

First, yes I have searched the forum and looked at other threads with the same error message but haven't found anything that helps. If I've missed something relevant please let me know.
System
Acer Aspire all in one
Win 7 Home premium 64 bit SP1
Problem description.
I am re-deploying a computer. I created a new admin user, then deleted all existing users. After a lot of sweat I found out about and applied the hotfix for KB article 2866086 and now all but the original admin users profile directories stay deleted!!!
However I still can't get rid of the original admin user's files. I have gone through the change ownership routine and turned UAC off but all that has done is that now when I log in as the new admin and try to delete the files I am told that I need permission from the login I'm currently using!!!
To add to my confusion, properties shows the root directory (C:Users/Old admin name) as containing > 7000 files and > 1000 folders. It is also shown with a lock symbol on the root folder although it is not shared. If there was a file equivalent in Windows for 'kill -9' I would have nuked the bloody thing.
I've even tried explaining that if it doesn't behave I'll re-program it with an axe, but Win 7 developers obviously haven't read The Hitchhikers Guide.
Short of reinstalling the OS from scratch has anyone got any useful suggestions?
Thanks in anticipation
When I've run into stubborn cases I have booted to a Linux LiveCD or LiveDVD and deleted from within its file manager. Booting Windows next may give some squacks but running a reputable Registry cleaner helps. Many say not to use such a program but I've had no problems doing so. I don't use it until nothing else works and never as a routine thing.

1 more repliesOn my new win7 home 64bit system I wanted to share my drives so that it would work with my other winxp computer as well so I used the trick of assigning permission to "Everyone" on all my drives. This worked great (better than the homegroup). However today I decided it wasn't a great idea to share the C drive so I removed permissions for "Everyone" on the security tab thinking I was just undoing the ability to share it. OOOPS. Big mistake. Now I can't access the C drive at all even though my user acount is labled as an administrator. When I select the Security tab of the C drive properties I get the dreaded "You do not have permission to view or edit this object's permission settings."
I tried safe mode, but I get that same dreaded message.
I added a "Take Ownership" context menu (using the Ultimate Windows Tweaker), but when I right click on the c drive and click on "Take Ownership" is appears to do nothing.
Damn, damn ... I've been working away configuring my new computer and I haven't done a full Acronis backup of the C drive for three days. (I know - that was stuuupid.) I can go back to that backup, but that means many hours of work lost. Please someone tell me it is possible to undo the removal of permissions to my C drive. HELP!!!!
~Paul
As an update to my sad situation described above, I tried system
restore figuring that would get me back most of my work. However system restore just reported "Access Denied". Evidently I need to access the c drive to restore it. Darn again.
I also tried booting to safe mode and running "cmd" as an administrator (using my usual windows account). Then I typed the command:
takeown /f C:\ /r /d y
However I got the message "ERROR: Access is denied."
Personally I feel there should be no one way switches in any software. Sooner or later someone is going to switch it, and if you can't switch it back and you need to ... well that is more than frustrating.

Grrrrrrrr...
I am fed up with this stupid thing!
I need to copy a file to a usb drive. I AM The Administrator. DEP is Off. I have no software running that could stop this transfer like spybot tea timer, or an anti-virus.firewall. UAC is Disabled.
My Win 7 tells Me... ME I don't have permission to access the file! The very Nerve of this thing!
I am GOD on my PC and I don't want Windows interfering in MY business! Apparently this uppity Win 7 seeks to challenge it's master. Well it's time to stop that behavior and show it who's the boss.
Any ideas?
This is strange, because I was able to copy the folder the file is in, from the Downloads folder to my Desktop.. but now suddenly I don't have permission to access the file?

Edit, I am trying to change my title back from the Advanced Editor.. I still wish to know why you would do such a thing.
Edit: It only created a sub title. Please change my main title back.
~~~~~~~~~~
I also notice that under Properties, and the Security tab, I cannot change the permissions. I should be able to as I AM the administrator.
create take ownership shortcut.
Take ownership of that file.
Right click go to properties and now change permissions to Full control for your accoount.
Easy?
Hi,
Im having trouble accessing an external hard drive. It says this when i try to access C:\Users i can view the rest of the hard drive though. When i go to change ownership it goes through the files and gets stuck on one particular file 3/4 times now and wont get past the one folder. Any ideas?
Thanks
The easiest solution is this: Add "Take Ownership" to Context Menu of Files, Folders, and Drives
1 more repliesWindows 8.1 running on C drive with all my back up/pervious folder/files on D drive from Windows 7. No issues initially.
Windows 8.1 developed operations issues and bugs a few months ago such as intermittently not allowing access to folders so I wiped C drive and reloaded again.
Currently I have tried to access some picture files, being the ones that were most likely modified /saved to D drive by the original Windows 8.1 and I cannot. Oddly enough it seems I have full access to documents and music folders/files on same D drive and the earliest picture pre first Windows 8.1 and latest pictures save buy current Windows 8.1.
When I click on the files in question, a window opens:
You don’t currently have permission to access this folder
I then click on “Continue”. The next window opens:
You have been denied permission to access this folder
I then click on “security tab” The next window opens: with tabs for General, Sharing, Security, Customise. I have clicked:
“General” to see; size: 0 bytes, Attributes: Read-only (selected), clicked Advanced… to see allow files in the folder to have contents indexed in addition to file properties (selected). No encrypt or other attributes has been selected.
“Security” to see “You must have Read permissions to view the properties of this object.”, clicked Advance to see Owner: Unable to display current owner. I click on the corresponding Change prompt and go through procedure to take owner ship of file. When I attempt to... Read more
I have tried to follow the steps to take ownership of the printer but when I right click on properties the only tabs are 'General' and 'Hardware'-- no 'Security' tab. So, I can't follow the rest of the steps. How do I find the printer through Windows Explorer?
I am the only user on my computer and I am the admin, but when I transferred my files from the old computer to the new, I was added as a User due to the old settings.
Now, when I want to access anything, I have to go through the permissions spiel.
Is there a way to change this so I have access to everything?
Hmmm.... Interesting-- I just started a new document and was able to print that out but not older documents that I transferred from old computer--??????
I was able to find my way to the proper folder and access the Security tab but everything is grayed out so I can't make any changes. Help!
2 more repliesI have three computers, and I'm running Quickbooks accounting software on all three. Quickbooks requires all three computers to connect to the company file, stored on one computer. The file is stored on a computer called OFFICE, and OFFICE runs windows 8.1 pro. The other two computers are SHOP, running 7 pro, freshly installed at the end of december, and TOMMY, also running a fresh install of 7 pro as of last Friday. All windows copies are legitimate copies from Microsoft.
Originally, I set the network up wirelessly, and all three were communicating properly. However, quickbooks shuts down if communication to the host is lost even for a moment, and is not supposed to be compatible with wireless connections. So on Monday, I made some CAT5, ran it from each computer to the router, and got everyone hooked up to the internet. My cable tester was bad and gave me a false positive on one of my cables, resulting in me reinstalling the NIC driver in an attempt to get SHOP to recognize that it was plugged in. Eventually figured out I'd gotten a false positive, retipped the cable, and got connected properly.
Now for our network, I tried to set up set up shared files. I gave everyone permission to read/write to the file, but SHOP could not access the file. So I set up a windows homegroup on OFFICE and had TOMMY and SHOP join it. TOMMY and OFFICE can both see each other on the homegroup, but neither can see SHOP. SHOP can see both TOMMY and OFFICE. I removed all three from th... Read more
i run a network with quickbooks also. it is a pain. check the hosts file, go to computer, windows, system32, drivers, etc folder. open it in notepad. at the bottom, you should have the ip address and computer name of the server on the clients. there are examples in there to show you how to add them. if this is the case, then i would suggest paying for a quickbooks tech to remote onto your system and help. but first, try the forums on their site, i have used them and they are pretty good, just not too fast if you're in a hurry. quickbooks is pretty reasonable with their rates, and when they remote in, you don't have to do anything, although i would take notes while watching, i did.
Hello,
I am on my Laptop, i have 3.5 IDE Hard Disk which is quiet few years old, my some Pictures and data is stored on it, now i am looking for few pictures of mine, and few notepads, i try to connect it on my laptop by using 3.5 hard drive ide enclosure caddy. problem is i keep getting ''you don't currently have permission to access this folder'' on few folders but not all of them, can anyone solve this issue?
Try Take Ownership Shortcut on the folders or drive.
Can you plug in the drive internally?
You can always Copy & Paste - in Windows Recovery Console or use Paragon Rescue Kit Free Edition 11.0 Free CD to another HD which require no permissions.
Hi, i have this problem that i cannot solve. i know why it happened but i was kinda trying stuff without really knowing what i was doing, so now i turn to this forum cause i tried all i could think/find and i still cant solve my mistake.
I had two HD,
C: with XP pro sp3 and linux (dual boot)
D: formated in ntfs with all extra data (songs, video, reports, receipt etc..)
When i had these two working normally, i needed to restrict the access of the second HD (the D to only one computer on the network so i messed around with the permission. I ended up deleting the whole list;
it was looking like this (under the security tab of the HD properties)
"Administrator"
"SYSTEM"
"User" X\username"
So i deleted these, it gave me problems , then i found how to re-take owner ship. but i only re-added
"User" X\username
i could then again access my files on the D: . but i still couldnt share my files as i wanted for some reason. so i decided to re-install windows...big mistake!!
I formated the C:, re-installed windows on it, no problem with that. But now i see the second HD in windows explorer as RAW and access is denied. Meaning the HD is detected and listed there, but the used space and total space amount is not showing, if i click properties, instead of NTFS its says RAW. If i try to open it to explore the content, i get an access denied message.
I tryied chkdsk it did some things (looked like it was changing stuff, but i cant see a... Read more
Hi everyone, I have an old hard drive that has firefox and with boomarks etc. Id like to import these bookmarks etc into a new installation of firefox. The problem I have is I get the You don't have permission to access this folder.
I believe I am accessing the right folder which is under documents and settings.
Thank's for any help
FF has its folders in two places:
users [user] appdata local mozilla...
users [user] appdata roaming mozilla...
Which folder can't be accessed? Normally, the above two folders are no trouble to access.
Hi everyone, this is my first post.
Let me first apologize for my english :-)
I need your help because i'm getting crazy with some computer.
My office lan is quite heterogeneous : some PCs are in a local domain, other not yet.
One computer (let's call it PC-A) is a winxp professional SP2 with a shared folder for wich Guest and Everyone account permission are set up. This computer is not joined to the local domain.
The problem is that some computer (Win7) can access it and its shared folder , others can not.
More specifically i have a pc (PC-B) with Windows 7 Enterprise, not joined to the local domain , with a static ip that can access PC-A both with \\computername and \\ipaddress.
Another pc (PC-C) not joined to local domain, static ip, win 7 enterprise cannot access PC-A in any way (\\computername or \\ipaddress) but the ping works and so the remote desktop on PC-A.
A third PC (PC-D) , with win7 enterprise, is joined to the local domain(with DHCP and DNS server configured) and cannot access PC-A (the same as PC-C) . In local domain a DHCP server provides ip addresses in the same class of other pc in the lan not yet joined.
Hoping i was clear and provided the necessary information.
Can you help me to resolve this problem?
Thank you.
Have you tried making adjustments to the local security policy which would allow access to shares on the XP machine from anonymous users?
