Hi, I have been using the windows shared internet option between two laptops (one connected trough wifi to internet and the second laptop connected with the first one with an ethernet cable), but out of the sudden the second laptop was unable to get online. When I check the ipconfig I noticed that the mask was no longer 255.255.255.0 but 255.255.0.0 and the default gateway was blank. I switch both laptops so the second one gives internet to the first one and they work perfectly, so its definitely a problem with the first laptop and not with the second nor the cable.
I reinstall the drivers of both the wifi card and the ethernet card but still face the same outcome. I also tried bridging the connection but I still get a blank gateway in the second laptop.
PS: Static Ip configuration does solve the problem but I really need the automatic assignment of IP and gateway.
Thanks in advance.
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
Okay, so I have been using my laptop which is running Windows 10 to share internet to my desktop running Windows 7. Well Windows 10 updated and screwed something up so I rolled the update back and got it back up and running by resetting my desktop dns and ip back to default. It worked for about five hours or so and then stopped out of nowhere. I have tried all the ipconfig / things you can do and none of them have worked. I have tried to bridge them and that doesn't work. I will also sometimes get a ip conflict box on my laptop or on my desktop they go back and forth. I have been stuck on this for hours and networking is not my specialty. If someone could please help me I would greatly appreciate it.
Update: Okay, so I have the wireless internet bridged with the local connection and it created a Ethernet connection box and it's receiving data and sending data just not to the desktop. I have tried to use cmd with the command ipconfig /all and used the ipv4,subnet mask, default gateway, and dns from the Ethernet connection on the desktop with the local connection, properties, ipv4, properties and changing it to the local connection information I was getting a dns error. I stopped getting that error because it stops recognizing the connection. It goes from Network 3 to unidentified and when it does that I get the error that there is an ip conflict. That's all I got right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated as said before.
Update 2: Okay, It was accepting ... Read more
I have tired to get rid of this bridge connection that is on my local area connection. I try to remove it with the bridge connection area and all it says is "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing." I have AT&T hig speed internet and tired talking to them and they said it was on my end, plus I spend two hours on the phone to someone who doesn't know much english and not alot about computers. So can someone please help me. The only way I can connect to the internet is through the my D-Link router which sucks. Someone please help me.
hello, i have a usb drive connected to my laptop and laptop connected via ethernet and or wireless to the network.
i have set up a folder on the usb drive, with media in, as a network share.
also connected wired to the network is sonos, which is set to look at a network share for the media
if i unplug the drive and reboot, then reattach the drive vista will forget the share
i have set the drive so that the drive letter is always J, vista remembers this no problem
is there a way to tell vista that when i connect 'j' that i want the media folder shared automatically?
thanks

Hi people im looking for something like this
please suggest me the same
A software that accesses an email account and then copies all emails older than 1 year to a google apps or another archive account(shared network folder) not on my email server.
I think the best option is to create a read only PST file as this is the same way Exchange does it.
Thanks in advance people
ok well i just got another 360 but i dont want to buy another wireless adapter and was wondering how i can bridge my 360 using my computer.
this is how it is
my computer is connected to my wireless network using a USB adapter.then from that my 360 would be connected using an Ethernet cable that's attached to the back of my pc.
This is bad but i tried
and when i right click on "wireless network" under the "Connect to" tab it has an option to bridge the connection but it gives me an error
THIS ONE TO BE EXACT
so can anyone help
im using SP2 and windows xp if that helps
Click and hold an open area of the network connections window and
drag the mouse accross both the wired and wireless connection,so
both are selected.
Then right click a connection and select bridge.
In order to create a bridge,2 connections must be selected.
alright, i have quite a confused topic, hopefully i can explain
if anyone know how to do this please i would like to ask you to help
i have vista ultimate on both pc(1) and pc(2)
and what i wanna do is this:
blah blah blah<<wireless signal->> to my pc(1) i receive by wireless antenna>>an then <<bridge connection>>>via Ethernet cable from pc(1) to a wireless router near my pc(2)->>>> and then<<Ethernet cable>>>> to 2nd pc via Ethernet cable
*i know the cable works
*router works
i wish i could just hook up pc(1) to pc(2) bridging connections via ethernet
but i get cable unplugged on my network connections window
But when i hook up pc(1) to router it works plugged to unkown network (local)
As well as if i just plug pc(2) to router it works i get plugged to unkown network (local)
So now i need to know if iam doing something wrong or if what i need to do next!!
thanx for the help!!!
Greetings,
My computer uses a wireless connection and I am attempting to go online on my Playstation 2 console by running an Ethernet cable between the playstation and the free Ethernet port on my motherboard.
How would I go about sending a signal through my Local Area Connection from my Wireless Network Connection? I've made attempts at a Bridge Connection between the two, but I feel I'm doing something wrong.
I made a bridge connection between Wireless Network Connection and Local Area Connection and restarted my computer and the Playstation. Still no signal, and I'm getting a "A network cable is unplugged" error with two different Ethernet cables.
2 more repliesHI all,
I have been using a USB to USB cable connection with a software package called USBLinq (PC-Linq in some places) and have been able to connect to any and all systems after installing the necessary software. I have just installed Win2000 on an older PII 350 system, and tried to install this software on it, to transfer some common files. I have no problems getting the appropriate USB drivers to install (Bridge and Hub) but when it tries to install the actual Device( USB Bridge Cable) I get an error message that states that
An error occurred during the installation of the Device.
The installation failed because a function driver was not specified for this device instance.Click to expand...
Consequently, I am unable to connect the 2 systems. I have downloaded updated drivers and software package that should run on Win2000 from the Prolific Technologies, the manufacturer of the USB chip embedded in the cable, but still no joy.
Has anyone had experience with this software, or any advice on how I can get this working?
Thanx!
I am having same problem with Windows XP and Windows 2K.
Have found drivers from Prolific and a "Smart-Link" but neither work

Hey,
So, i want to disable a bridge connection, but every time that i try to disable it, it says "An unexpected error occurred while configuring the Network Bridge", and i have no clue of how to solve it.
Thanks
You've given no indication of any hardware. What device is using the bridge connection?
What is the brand, model and version of Windows on the computer you are using?
I'm trying to simply connect my Pc to xbox but cannot due to reasons because the network is bridged and I am unable to select the sharing tab. I see on forums to simply go to network sharing window, manage networks, right click and delete. But there is no "Manage networks option. Just adapter settings and advanced sharing settings. How can I disable this bridge? I've been trying to find out what the problem is for the past week but couldnt find a solution and it's definitely bugging me. Any help would be great, thank you.
More repliesHave a question, when i bridged 2 connections in my laptop, why is it that, the other computers are unable to connect to the internet and that include mine...is there a way to fix it? Please advise. Thank you.
Hi cashng.... it's hard to say without you bein a little more specific.
Could you please describe your exact network layout? a picture of your network map would be helpful too. (Open network and sharing centre and click "see full map" on the top right hand corner
hi all im having trouble bridging my ethernet to my internet im using vister home on a home pc not laptop! withy no wireless. everytime i try it comes up with TO CREATE A NETWORK BRIDGE YOU MUST SELECT AT LEAST TWO LAN OR HIGH SPEED INTERNET CONECTIONS THAT ARE NOT BEING USED BY INTERNET CONNECTION SHARING; can anyone help as i have tried everything would i be better of getting windows 7 or does someone have the anwser or had the same problem plz help as i cannot use my xbox on live thanks i have put the eternet from my xbox in the back of my pc!!!
My connection currently says it's bridged, but I'm unable to unbridge it for some reason. When I try it says "To create a Network Bridge, you must select at least two LAN or High-Speed Internet connections that are not being used by Internet Connection Sharing."
I selected both networks properly but it doesnt give me the option to bridge or unbridge. What would be the problem? I tried finding " manage networks" but couldnt find it so I cant delete it as said on a forum to remove the bridge.
Did you set it up like this: Create a network bridge
Also heed the warning mentioned at that MS site.
I am running Linux Mint 12 on a desktop PC, and I need to connect it to the internet through my laptop that is running windows xp (don't have a long enough ethernet cable) I have tried setting up a network bridge, and linux mint says that it is connected but I still have no internet access, so how do i solve this problem?
[[ Windows has detected an IP address conflict ]]
So basically my setting is Wifi router >> Laptop >> My desktop
and I bridge my laptop and desktop via cable
both of them pops up [[Windows has detected an IP address conflict]] and keep disconnecting and reconnecting ~20 second every 10 minutes
I did some search and have tried static IP but its seem not work or I did not do it properly since I have no idea about network.
This is my setting. I am really appreciate if you guys could help

Hi,
I have one main router at home which all laptops connected to it wirelessly ,
But I also have a desktop computer in the basement with another router
I want from the second router bring internet connection from the main one to let my desktop access the internet
The main router brand is D-Link DSL-2640U and the second router is Asus. WL-AM604g.
Is there an opportunity to have a bridge connection between them?
Actually I tried but failed.
Would you please suggest me what to do?
Thank you in advance
You can connect them by ethernet cable. If you mean "wireless bridge" it depends on whether the WL-AM604g supports that feature (also sometimes called AP client).
I have a 2-sided USB cord I want to bridge a connection to on my Windows TinyXP.
When I go to Network Connections it shows my Local Area Connection, but how would I get it to show the USB cord to show in there so that I can bridge it.
I didnt go buy any hardware. This is just a cord I've had for a while. I looked around for a bit and had trouble finding this information.
what you are really saying is
Code:
modem---(router)----your system---usb.connected.to.nothing
doesn't show the USB. Of course not put something on the other end
Code:
---your system---usb.connected.to.something
However, your system needs the Internet Connection Sharing enabled,
the USB connection on your system needs to have an Ethernet feature,
and the other device needs the same kind of USB/Ethernet device.
The USB slots on your systems will not do networking without using a USB/Ethernet adaptor and installing the drivers.
my mom has a wireless connection to my friends internet and i found out if i bridge her wireless and Ethernet port i can run a router through the Ethernet port to the internet port in the router and then i can have internet in my room but it keeps popping up 2 ips on the same network or i have internet and she doesn't can anyone help me with this problem
I have a new internet connection. It is displaying lights for DSL, PWR, INET, WLAN.
I can connect but it always reads the message "No Internet Access"
I went to the service provider to get this fixed. And they created bridge mode through LAN so I could connect using a username and password. (create a new connection > broadband ). But I innocently pressed reset button.
I don't want to go back to the service provider to setup the bridge mode or ability to connect by a username/password through LAN. I have attached three screenshots of how my 192.168.1.1 page looks like. If any body can take this forward from here and guide me through this, then I am waiting. I am good with computers but not this part.
if there is any other issue ( fault in laptop) then please take that into account as well. But I can connect through my mobile so this doesn't seem to be an issue to me.
My internet connection is activated and billing is on.
Please help me enable this bridge mode feature through admin. I have attached three images so you can see how my admin looks like

I have checked Device manager for updates to
Network Adapters >> Wireless
Network Adapters >> Fast Ethernet
Both of the above are up to date. The reason I am trying to bridge is because it shows No internet Access when connected through direct insertion of LAN wire into laptop and also through wireless connection. Everytime it shows no internet access.
I don't know if i have used the correct terms. Looking forward to a reply!
I get my internet connection from the college through ethernet cable. I want to be able to access wireless on my android phone. The D-Link router gateway is 192.168.1.1 . To access the college internet I have to go through SONICWALL firewall using LAN cable whose default gateway is 122.0.0.254.
How do I bridge the connection?
mbtamuli, your college should have provided you with a user name and the wireless password. Suggest you contact Student Services.

Hi ,
I have PS3 and I want to connect to PlayStation network , unfortunately the internet I have at home needs a proxy and its authentication (user and password) and PS3 network setting does not allow me to enter the authentication in proxy settings, so I heard that I can create a bridge between my laptop and ps3, using Ethernet cable. In my laptop I have one Ethernet port and I use wireless adapter to connect to internet. Also I use windows 7 ultimate
Anyone can help?

I am staying at a hotel for 2 months. The hotel has a wifi connection that requires a username and password so only 1 device can be used at a time.
I am wondering if I could bridge my wireless router to the wireless connection from the hotel so I can use my playstation and laptop at the same time.
Chances are it's a captive portal system that's recording the MAC address of the 1st device it sees. Go get a travel router, and plug that in between your mini network and the Hotel. the hotel will see the internet request come from the travel router and open up traffic for it and therefore any devices behind it.
I've been trying to play xbox live through a bridged connection on my T61 but it generally cuts out every 5 or 10 minutes. I set things up the exact same way with my old Dell 600m w/ XP and never had a problem so I'm not sure if it's w/ Vista or other software. If anyone has any suggestions they would be greatly appreciated.
Hey guys! I've been using the my T500 with the Advanced Mini Dock that @TheDude recommended in this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T500-Recommended-Compatible-Docking-Station... I have it for almost a month now and every time I dock my laptop I have to switch the wireless connection off either from the hard switch or by using FN+F5 and turning that particular radio off. Is there any way to have make the computer automatically choose the wired connection when available, if not, to use the wireless radio? I am using Windows 7 Prof. 64bit. Thanks,c1p0

ThinkVantage Access Connections (AC) can be configured to do this. Edit your Location profile, and edit the order of the adapters associated with this Location, for example, order as Wired first, and Wireless second. When I am connected Wired, and I pull the Ethernet cable, AC will switch to using Wireless automatically. When I put the Ethernet back in, it starts using the Wired connection automatically, and Wireless reports limited or no connectivity (which means the switch occurred). You may need to configure the Wireless power options in AC, i.e. turn off radio when not in use (I haven't bothered yet). This could be similar to a docking station solution. Mine is without docking; when I'm at the office, and go to a meeting, I pull the wire, and have continuity. Ideally, AC should provide a solution. But it may take some fiddling.
3 more repliesso before i did my upgrade i had my 360 bridged to my desktop via usb wireless adapter for my xbox live to work. i do this because i am to cheap to buy the adapter for it, and hooking a cable up with cause some huge problems with my cat (it likes to chew wires)
when i go into the networking setting to bridge the connections, it works but then my computer always say public connection and no internet
so i am confused to say the least

I have my desktop PC (Windows 7) connected to my laptop (Vista) with a crossover cable. My laptop has a wireless internet connection which I have desperately been trying to use on my PC. The PC has a GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 motherboard and I have tried re-installing the drivers (from the Gigabyte website). At one point I was able to share view/share files through the crossover cable, but after messing with the attempted bridge connection, I can no longer see my desktop in the network. The lights are on when the crossover cable is plugged in.
I have internet access on my laptop, but when I highlight my local area connection and and wireless network connection, right click, and bridge the connection, my internet drops on my laptop. The PC is left without internet as usual.
I have a Belkin Wireless USB adapter which I have also tried to use on the desktop. The desktop detects the wireless connection and attempts to connect to the internet. It connects, but with limited access and is not receiving packets (no internet).
The router has been reset many times.
I ran this in the command prompt (administrator) to no avail. "netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt"
ICS is turned off, IPv6 and 4 are set to obtain IP/DNS automatically. I don't know if it would be easier to try and bridge the connection or try and get the USB method to work.

Is this possible (I would think so) and if so, what have I done wrong?
Never mind the other computer's owner was being dumb :P
1 more repliesIs there some utility or something i can use the monitor the connection between my Bridge and Router. I know I can login to my router or bridge and view the connection status but I want somthing small like a widget that will show me signal strength, status and bandwidth being used.
I have a Buffalo WLI-TX4-G54HP for the bridge and a Linksys WRT54GS useing DD-WRT as the router.
that would be cool... don't know of anything that will do it though....
I've been trying to find a solution to this problem for a long time now, but so far nothing has worked. Here is my story:
I have 2 computers. 1 Desktop and 1 Laptop. I have been getting internet on my desktop through a bridge connection via my laptop, which is connected to our modem wirelessly. We have been using Qwest as our internet provider. We just recently upgraded to a 12mb connection. In doing so, we had to set up a new modem. The setup went smooth, and every other computer can connect to it just fine, including my laptop. But here is where the problem lies.
So my laptop is connected to the modem (we don't have a router), and my desktop is still connected to my laptop via bridge connection. On my laptop's side, the Wireless Network Connection, Local Area Connection 2 (my desktop), and Network Bridge are all working just fine. However, on my desktop's side, "Local Area Connection" is marked as "Unidentified Network".
I found this site through searching something on google and found someone that seemed to have the exact same problem. I read through it all and tried all the suggestions he was given. For him, his problem was fixed. For me, the same problem still exists. Here is the link to the thread - http://forums.techguy.org/networking/918416-solved-unable-bridge-connections-lan.html

Hi I made another topic with a problem which was helpfully solved but now it seems my Xbox LIve connection keeps dropping every 10 minutes or so even though the internet in the laptop seems fine, anyone has any idea why this is happening? Could it be just internet acting up? Is bridging unstable?
Any help would be appreciated
PS Would reset router and modem but they are not in my room so that might have to wait until tomorrow if its a suggestion/solution.
linksys wireless network, one PC, with the BB modem is win98, the laptop is XP, both PC's have the green icon on the task bar..no way will they see each other...so to carry on clutching straws, like we have for weeks on end..on the XP laptop, on the task bar, there are two double monitor icons, if you hold the cursor over them, one has"local area connection 400.0 mbps"and the other has"network bridge 11.0 mbps"does this mean i have a link between the two? or have i gone off down the wrong road again.thanks
a 400mbit connection means that it is almost certainly firewire. This can be used as a network configuration however it is not common. The 11mbps one is wireless, this is a totally different technology and requires a wireless card in the other pc aswell. You can use the wireless connection on the router - i think thats what it sounds like, to connect to the laptop and xp will auto detect all the settings needed. If you want further help send me and email and i can run a remote assistance session with you and hopefully get it sorted. Chris

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!
What version of Windows are you running?
I have a laptop with a wireless network card and a regular network card, I have bridged these two together. I can get internet to work on one of the two desktops I have in my room.
When connecting to the non working PC, it is as if nothing has been connected. No message saying limited connection or something like that, just "A network cable is unplugged." I have two working NICs in this PC, and neither one will recognize the line from the laptop. However, if I plug either one of these NICs directly to a router, it works fine. It should be noted that for both, I did not install any drivers, windows recognized both.
What can I do? The laptop end is fine I think, since it will work with my main PC.
So... you have a router but are choosing not to use it and use ICS instead? I'm confused...

Hello,
I had been using a Linksys WRT54G as a repeater to extend the range of my wireless network (I am using DDWRT on this router to make it work as a repeater). I has worked well first with a 2WIRE DSL modem via AT&T. I went back to Road Runner and again had success with it connecting to a Ubee wireless cable modem. With both of these modems it required a reboot every now and then (or whenever I rebooted the main modems). I have just upgraded to Time Warner Signature Home service and I have an Arris Cable Modem/Wireless/Phone router that creates the Wireless network, Internet connection and also handles the land line phones for my house. I have noticed since this upgrade that I have to daily reboot the Linksys because it loses the internet connectivity. My question is whether this is a problem with the Linksys or maybe something with the new Arris modem. Usually rebooting the Linksys brings the Internet connectivity back but it is very annoying. Could there be a time out on the Arris that disconnects the Linksys.
In instructed the TW technician to setup the wireless network with the same name and security so I would not have to reconfigure the Linksys and that seemed to work with the exception of this problem. Any ideas? I am considering purchasing another "cheap" router to use as an extender, but I wanted to do that only if it would fix this issue. Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks,
Jason

Hi
I have a server that I has a shared drive I would like to access on my PC. I have my server and my PC connected to the same router by Ethernet, but this router does not have internet access. My PC is also connected to a router with internet access via a WiFi adapter.
In order to access the shared drive on my server and access the internet at the same time, I had to bridge the Ethernet connection to my router without internet, and the WiFi connection to the router with internet. However, occasionally I will not be able to access the internet through any program, and my web browser will display errors such as "dns_probe_finished_no_internet".
I am unsure what causes this problem, but it usually happens when I am accessing or transferring large amounts of data on the network drive.
Any help is appreciated,
Thanks.

Recently I have set up 2 PCs trying to connect to internet sharing a single broadband, using Win98SE's ICS.
After setting up host PC and client PC, I could not get the client PC to go to the internet.
I suspect it is the DSL Modem/Bridge which does not support NAT, hence does not allow internet connection sharing. I checked my DSL modem, it is a Prolink Hurricane 9000/B, the manual says it is in Bridge mode, no router mode.
The funny thing is I am able to connect to Internet using this DSL modem, but my client PC can't.
Pls help. In dire straits. Any other solution? Such as using a 5 port switch?
Rgds
Simon
If you are using Windows ICS then your modem doesn't have to support anything. It is the computer you are running ICS on that does the routing.
What exactly did you do trying to get the connection sharing going?
You will save yourself from a lot of headaches by getting a router. Either a small box from a store or any old junk PC with some firewall on it.
I know that generally i need a router and have to plug the TW modem into router/switch combo, setup MAC address cloning, then attach PC's to router/switch ports but was wondering if i can set it up without router..?Telewest BB connection just has the Motorola sb4200 surfboard cable modem plugged straight into PC 01 via installed NIC.Can i add an additional NIC into PC 01, connect it with RJ45 CAT 5 x-over cable to a PCMCIA NIC for the laptop (PC 02) to get an Internet connection using ICS in Windows XP that runs on PC 01, or do i have to go with the router option, any help, alternative solutions (bridging), suggestions, thanks in advance...
Personal opinion would be to go down the router road. However:Why not consider wireless? It's relatively cheap these days.2 wireless pci adapters will allow you to connect both machines for file sharing and pc1 can be used as PC 2's web access. You can buy 2 wireless adapters (802.11b) from ebuyer for £40 delivered and no doubt cheaper from the local PC shop. The only downside to this method is pc1 has to be switched on if PC requires web access. If you go to the blueyonder networking section click here they'll quite happily supply you with netgear products to the tune of £111 for a router, wireless pcmcia card for laptop and usb wireless adapter for PC (802.11b).Definitely consider wireless, especially with the summer coming up and that nice Chardonnay you been saving can be sipped whilst you while away endless hours surfing on the lounger in the garden.Happy hunting
4 more repliesHi,
I am experiencing an unusual problem with the network bridge facility in windows vista.
My setup is as follows:
[Modem]---[Router]---[Switch]---[PC1]---[PC2]
PC1 is running Vista x86 and has two ethernet ports
PC2 is running Windows XP
When running XP on PC1 I was able to bridge it's two ethernet connections and both PC1 and PC2 could access the LAN and the Internet.
Now with PC1 running vista, with the same network configuration PC2 can access the LAN and Internet just fine but PC1 can only access the LAN
For example with PC1 I can access files share on PC2 as well as other machines connected to the switch, I can even access the modems configuration page but when it comes to trying to access any internet resources such as http, dns and even ping I get nothing.
Has anyone any suggestions as to why this would be happening?
I would be much obliged for any information
Hello,
So I have two computers. One is a laptop that connects to the internet via wireless. The other computer is a PC. I wish to connect these two together to share internet.
Ive have successfully done this in the past via a network bridge, but it was with a different wireless card on the laptop. Now that I use a new wireless card, for some reason the same methods I used before yield no results. The old adapter was a NETGEAR WG511T and the new one is the Intel 3945ABG card. I have read on the microsoft site that the possible issue might be that the intel card does not support promiscuous mode, but then gave steps to force it to be compatible. I followed those steps but nothing changed. When the bridge is connected, it sees the cables in and everything but ip address and all that is 0.0.0.0
So then I tried just networking the PC and the Laptop by LAN and sharing the wireless internet connection. This also did not work. The network works, and the laptop still has internet, but the PC does not. The PC sees the Wireless connection as shared under the network connections tab, but pings and web browsing do not work. Both networks are on different subnets (wireless is on 192.168.2.x and LAN is on 192.168.0.x). I have the PC configured with a manual ip address of 192.168.0.2. I have tried using the network setup wizard but it just ends up saying an error occurred but doesnt give me a reason.
Any suggestions on what to do next?
Any help is appreciated.
I am using Win 7. I have an xbox 360 connected to the pc via powerline adapters, am sharing my video library and internet connection using internet connection sharing by bridging my lan and wifi connections.
When I am connected to my apartment's free wifi(SSID Tenant Wifi), the xbox 360 can share the internet connection and access the videos and music on my pc just fine. I am now trying to connect to a different wifi signal (xfinitywifi). When I connect the pc can use the internet through the xfinitywifi just fine, but my 360 loses connection to both the wifi, and the pc in general. No music, no videos, no netflix. When I switch back to Tenant Wifi everything works normally again.
I have tried rebooting everything (pc, 360 and powerline adapters). I have tried going into the network settings and disabling the lan port, wifi adapter and network bridge, then re-enabling them again. None of this works.
Any ideas?
Thank you in advance for taking the time to help me.

I thought that it was impossible to use ICS and bridge the connections at the same time. You must have found some special case that works.
Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.
Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (prefer... I have win xp sp3

Well, as long as you're patient it'll probably do.
Is that wireless connection to a wireless router? If so, you simply bridge the wireless and wired connections in the one machine and connect the wired port to that switch. The other machines connected to the switch will have access to the router as long as that wireless machine is running.
hi all, I'm a newbie, but have spent some time searching thru prievous posts and upon other forums without finding an answer, so I apologise in advance if this is simpleton stuff.
I've moved into a mates house, who has moved to australia but left me his PC.
His setup is as follows: a 1ghz athlon running winxp home edition and is connected via a vigor2200usb router to a usb external alcatel speedtouch 330 modem, housed in a separate room to his PC. He used to run his PC and multiple xbox's from the router with no problems via his ISP PIPEX adsl account which.. I'm supposed to take over.
I've brought into the mix my own PC : P4 1.5 ghz running WINME which used to connect fine and run smoothly via a dialup 56k modem and ISP freeserve. I notified them I was moving but upon getting here was unable to access the internet from that PC, even if I removed the broadband connections (microfilters) from the house. (v90 modem now removed along with dial up settings)
I began to get "poproxy.exe has caused an error in KERNEL32.DLL" messages on bootup which i've traced to my about to expire copy of Norton AV, which is now removed.
In addtition I started to get weird error messages on startup to do with "program X causing an error in KERNEL32.DLL" which I gather can be for "reason X". (I'm looking into one being a possible virus) I've elimnated those errors now,via msconfig running only a bare minimum of starting task... Read more
is there any way to setup my imac running mac os 9 and windows xp computer into a network so that they can share the broadband connection? The router only has one slot so I will buy a hub but i just wanted to make sure so i don't waste money
When i had windows XP installed, i never had trouble tranfering from one network share to another... I would at least get roughtly 25MBs.. but with Vista (32 & 64) and Windows 7, transfering between network shares is super slow.. could takes days sometimes...
is this happening to other people??
I believe, this is also caused when I have to transfer files from my ipod. that it has to cache on my computer, and then transfer to the network share / computer, this is my theory, I never tested it ofc, maybe someone with more knowledge could help.
it's like unpacking a rar into a network share.
I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade my laptop to an ivy bridge processor, and if my laptop will be able to recognize the hd 4000 graphics chip?
I'm also very interested in this.
2 more repliesHi all,
Just wanted to post this for anyone experiencing boot issues with the ASROCK H61-VG4.
SPEC
ASROCK H61-VG4
Celeron G1620(P0) Ivy Bridge 2.7GHz (1155 IVYBRIDGE / CHIPSET)
RAM 4GB 1333MHz
1TB Samsung spinpoint F3
On completion of build
- computer would boot and then shut down after around 5 secs.
- could not get into the bios as computer would shut down prior.
solution / fix
installed 1600MHz RAM and computer booted with no issues.
(I usually use gigabyte mobos so never experienced this before.)
Manual states, "Memory - supports DDR3 1600/1333/1066 non-ECC memory (DDR3 1600 with Intel Ivy Bridge CPU, DDR3 1333 with intel Sandy Bridge CPU)
Anyone else had this type of issue with specific CPU to RAM MHz match to get a board to boot?
By "boot", do you mean POST? Did you get any beeps? Perhaps the 1333 module(s) is bad or the wrong voltage.

Here's a checklist of things for ICS and file sharing for 2 croslinked computers (This is what works for Win 7 and XP):
- both computers set to the same workgroup
- restarts
- advanced sharing settings - all things turned on (network discovery etc.) except for password protected sharing
- bridged the connection with the internet
- turned on Internet Connection Sharing for the internet connection - this forced an ip to the other connection (192.168.137.1) and gave an option to select which connection should have access to the ICS (the second connection or the bridge - you choose the second / crosslinked cable connection)
- shared some folders on both computers
- worked instantly (the other pc aquired a correct ip and internet)
I have one PC that is connecting wirelessly to a network
I have a laptop that I can't get the wireless to work on (this is due to a physical fault)
I've tried using an external wireless USB stick - but no joy
Basically it's an old and battered laptop
How can I share the internet connection from the PC (that's getting the connection wirelessly)?
Can I join the PC and the laptop with an ethernet cable and share the connection??
If so, how?
Thanks

I have a Win XP Pro SP1 box and Win NT 4 box. The XP box is connected directly to an ISDN connection. Both boxes have ethernet cards.

Thanks.
I have access to an internet connection that uses mac address filtering and timed sessions. i.e., from 30mins to 366days. I want to use my connection (I have a 366day account) to the network as a hotspot for my iPhone without having to go through the hassle of either getting another 366day pass or the grief associated with spoofing the mac address in order to get online with my phone. I also don't want to use iTunes because it will mess up my iPod's stuff too. And adding a new device has already cost me a library of stuff and due to "we can't confirm xyz, have a great day" after it was all deleted. (I changed those settings now though from the default burn all not the same" even if a few are just renamed to save scrolling. Anyway going off tangent their.
How can I use my laptop as a pseudo router so that the mac filter doesn't interfere with my phone? ICS through the windows networking doesn't show my laptop as a separate WiFi connection, ie transmit as a router would. (the phone will though but also rack up a fortune in data charges though.)
Please can someone help me with this. I have tried more than one so called how to that has not done what it said it would, which is turn my laptop into a pseudo-wireless router and at the same time maintain my connection to my internet connection.
And thanks to MSN giving me grief with the new format, basically because I am not using the same computer/apartment/ISP etc... that I used when I sig... Read more

We will shortly be getting Broadband from Wanadoo. We have a laptop in the house and a desktop in the office (50 metres away). Wireless connections would not be suitable because of thick stone walls. We need to access Broadband from either PC even if the other is switched off. We understand we will need a Router and Ethernet card for the desktop. Can anyone tell us how to connect all this kit together please and has anyone got a reccommendation for type of Router.
More repliesI've recently networked two computers, a newer HP Pavilion (XP-h) and an older Compaq Presario (ME) using a d-link router. Both computers have a dial-up connection when needed (which is rare) but on occasions it would be nice to have both computers online at the same time.
Is there a way to do this? I know I could do it easily with a broadband connection, especially because I'm using a router anyway, but that's just not needed here.
thanks,
JTN
you can do Internet Connection Sharing. You will have to choose which one will be the 'gateway', but I wouldn't recommend it on a dial-up service.
Actually I wouldn't recommend it period. It's a pain in the rear when something goes wrong.
Hello There,
I have been using windows since forever on my Computers.
For years I have been using Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit on My Main PC and Secondary PC.
Normally I would create a Homegroup on the Main, And get the Secondary to join.
I'd then Share my Dialup Connection, And the Secondary PC has internet too, To play MMOs, Download, and anything else.
All by just using my LAN Cable to connect the two.
But this doesn't work on Windows 8.1 Pro
I have seen LOTS and LOTS of step by step "Solutions" Which I have followed to the letter but couldn't achieve anything at all.
Can anybody please help me solve this problem so I can have internet on both of my PCs again?
And can Windows 7 Ultimate share Internet to Win 8.1 Pro still? Or is it Win 8.1 Pro too broken to even be shared to?
Please help me it is urgent and I've wasted 2 days trying to solve this, I have a killer flu and I need to fix this before Monday
Kind Regards
I was going to reformat my sister computer so she wanted me to transfer some files on my computer so she can keep those file after reformatting and move it back to her computer, but for some reason my LAN connection is not sharing any files with all of my computer (4 computers) but I can still get internet connections... can anyone help me out ASAP please!!!
Hi. I'm having this problem in Windows 8 where I can't share the Internet with another PC, which runs Windows XP. My Internet connection name displays as "Unidentified network" which I think disables ICS and sharing altogether. I've also tried changing configurations in the HomeGroup and, although a second connection called "Network 2" set as "Private network" appears, it disappears after I reboot the PC. Any help please?
Maybe this tutorial will help. It helps to use a crossover cable for this connection but I believe there are ways around that. The second link shows settings more specific to setting up connection sharing with XP machines.

You will also want to leave the Home group if you set one up. Home groups are made for Windows 7 machines only.
If you need to share files between those machines you should set up a Workgroup using the same workgroup name for all machines in the workgroup.

I already know the answer to this but I'm hoping there's something out there. Is there ANYWAY POSSIBLE to share a dial up connection through a windows 2000 domain?
Analog router is too much.
Well, I suppose you could. But why?
If you just made the connection on the main computer, you could then share it like you could a broadband connection. It would be no diffrent to setup.
Of course, it's going to be really slow if you share it. Any dialup connections have a tendency of cutting out a lot,so odds are pretty good it will keep going down.
Hi Folks
I have BT broadband to my house.
I have two PC's a work laptop and a desktop. I currently have both setup up to use the broadband access but only one at a time.
What I am wondering is if there is any way to share the connection between the two PC's so that both can be connected to the web at the same time?
If this is possible what hardware would I need?
Thanks
You would need to install a router, probably a 4 port as I have not seen a 2 port router. The router would be installed after the modem. The cable from the modem (that connects to the computer now) gets plugged into the WAN port on the router and the two computers woul be connected through the LAN ports on the router. You will probably have to purchase those cables seperately. Radio Shack is one source for all those components. Or you could go wireless. It depends on what fits your budget.
I am running xp pro on a host and client computer using a Pantech UM175 to connect with my wireless broadband. I am running a CAT5 cable from host to client and using a standard ethernet switch. The "Local Area Connection" shows little or no connectivity and I cannot connect to the internet on my client computer. I have run the network setup wizard and repair but not success. Any ideas out there? Thank you for any help on this...:confused

Hi, i have an alpha usb device which catches wireless signals at my home and that device is connected to my laptop. my laptop wifi is not working so i purchased this device in my laptop so i have an easy access to internet through that device. i want to share that internet connection with my desktop. i dont want to purchase another device for my desktop. so i tried this:
i connect my desktop pc to my laptop through crossover cable. then i select my desktop pc tcp/ip properties and clicked on obtain and ip address automatically. then clicked ok.
then i went to wireless network connection of my laptop. then properties -->advanced then enable sharing. beneath that check box there is a scroll down list. 2 options in this list. through LOCAL AREA NETWORK / BLUETOOTH. I select local area network. then i click ok but it is showing an error. what is happening?
to start off i am using one of thoes modems called the UM150 provided by verizon wireless, its a modem that connects to your computer through USB. it uses a software that you install on your computer to manage the internet connection.
what i am trying to do is "share" that connection with my xbox 360. but the only way my xbox accepts internet connection is through a ethernet cable, so my current setup is the UM150 to the USB port on my laptop, an ethernet cable from my laptop to a router, and my xbox is connected through the router also.
is there any way i can connect my xbox to the internet through my computer?
my xbox360 has a text connection program, it cannot discover a DNS
Hello all,
Okay hear is the problem that I am faced with... I have a Virgin Mobile MC760 3G broadband device, I want to share that 3G internet connection with my D-Link DIR-615 router so that I can connect to the 3G over WiFi on my other devices.
The host computer that the 3G device would be plugged into is running Windows XP version 2002 Service Pack 2.
I realize that they do sell 3G routers but I would like to use the D-Link DIR-615 that I already have to avoid buying another router. I also realize that it may be easier to share the connection by creating a wireless network on the host computer and then enable internet sharing, I don't want to do this I need to share the connection through the router.
I don't know if it is possible to do this but any help would be greatly appreciated.
You will need a second network card on the PC so that you can connect it to the router and use Internet Connection Sharing.
Is it possible to share a dial-up connection through network cards in two different computers as long as they are connected together? If so, how do I do it?

Just remember that you're bandwidth is going to be way dogged down trying to do this. We're talking zipolay bandwidth (OK, you'll have some, but probably just enough to frustrate you!)
Second, your Internet provider will definitely frown on this unless you use something (like a router) to mask the fact that you're using two systems at one time to access the Net. (Can't remember if Win9x or XP's Internet Connection Sharing does this masking automatically, but it seems to me that Win9x doesn't. I could be wrong).)
If you're using Win9x, you have to enable Internet Connection Sharing, I believe it is, in the Control Panel's Add/Remove Software: Click on the Windows tab and go to ... (have to look real quick ...) Internet Tools and enable Internet Connection Sharing. Too, firewalls may not work in this configuration either, so keep that in mind.
Hope this helps,
I want my wii to connect to the internet, but I need to share the internet and I have a dongle (mobile broadband) is there any way to connect it? If so please share!
You'll be plugging your wii into the computer for this.
1. Plug in your console (WII, Xbox 360, PS3) and allow it to acquiring ip address.
2. click on the Windows button and type "network and sharing center" and enter
3. on the left right under manage wireless networks, should say change adapter settings click that
4. right click local area connection and disable it.
5. right click local area connection and click properties.
6. there should be a tab that says sharing go to that tab.
7. there is a box that says allow other network users to connect through this computers internet connection. uncheck it if it is checked.
8.hit ok then right click local area connection and enable it.
9 now select both your wireless network connection and the local area connection and right click and it should have the option to bridge connections. when you click bridge it will do its thing and should work when its done.
Dear all
i know there is atopic with the same name but it doesn't solve my problem
any how i want to do the same work by sharing a printer with a vpn in connection but
when i ping it its giving me a message
requested time out
if i disable the VPN it connects normally
i don't know what to do really
Where is the printer located? On a Domain or Workgroup?
Is the Printer Shared already? If not that needs to be done at the location.
Do you have permission to use such shared printer?
Are you at work or at home?
Are you trying to use a printer on your Workgroup at the same time you connect to your company domain via VPN?
Are you on your company laptop?
Do you have permission granting you access to change administration functions on your company laptop.
The last one is very important because it would allow you to add your home printer to your laptop and you could use this printer any time you're connected over the VPN tunnel. If you can't get admin rights, then you need to bring the printer CD/DVD or have a support tech add your printer to your laptop. Ticket would need to be generated though? If required by your companies policies?
Hi there,
My LAN is using 192.168.xx.xx network. but I have a small office in Indonesia which all 4 users connects their notebook and retrieve email using SecurID(VPN). They are always connected and my VPN gives a 10.10.xx.xx IP address. my printer is network enabled and is plugged to the router(print server enabled). How do i share this printer with the users always connected to VPN. ?? pls help..
well, if you have a print server on the network, and your outside users are VPN'd in, they should be able to ping to the address of that print server. If they can, you can direct them through the Add Printer Wizard, have them manually configure a new Standard TCP/IP port, and then add the print drivers. After that you should be good to go.
Hi, I have a new computer the wife wants to use my old pc and use my broadband connection I have a modem for my broadband connection how can we use the same modem to connect to the internet the modem only has one usb connection to my pc
You need to network the two, either with a cable between the two or with a wireless router.

You need a broadband router for most broadband accounts.
I have 3 computers in 3 separate rooms. When my daughter comes home from college she will have a notebook computer. Without having to disconnect the ethernet cable from the back of her Desktop PC is there a way to split the male end to 2 female ends. This would allow me to connect 2 short male to male ends. One to the PC and one to the notebook. Does such an inexpensive splitter exist. I was able to split my phone lines like this and that splitter was about 2 bucks. Do they make them for RJ45 ends?
What you need is a router, and I'd recommend a wireless one so anyone with a laptop can connect without cabling.
Here's an Open Box router and wireless adapter for $23: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833127175R
The modem connects to the router, and the router shares the connection with any and all computers connecting to it. So you can all be on the internet at the same, and even sahre files amongst yourselves.
A simple splitter won't work.
I am using a dial up wireless internet modem on one computer and wish to share this connection across the entire home group.
Does anyone know how to do this?
Thanks for any help.
I would think you need to set one up in Network and Sharing Centre, then in Sharing tab in Properties, select the appropriate option. Give it a go.
9 more repliesHi all,I have recently moved to Pipex BB, and thoroughly love it. I am considering utilising two spare machines I have to go online too, I dont want to mess around with hard wiring CAT 5 cables etc...so I was thinking of a wireless netwaork/router. Can an y point me in the right directions for tips and a good guide? Including the best way to setup and what hardware I require. Thanks peeps.
You will need a Access Gateway plus a PCI wireless card for each PC. Then just follow the wizard to set up. Its very easy, but expensive in comparison to using a hub and patch cables..
