Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager

Question: Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager

I have a Dell Inspiron M731R laptop upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 Home 64-Bit that suddenly quit connecting to the home network. Was using wireless, so switched to an Ethernet cable, but still no luck. I just discovered that ALL of the network-related devices are now listed under an "Unknown" tab in the Device Manager. A check of properties of each item in that folder says they are all working properly, but that obviously isn't the case. I tried uninstalling each of the 4 items, but when they are recognized again they still show up under the Unknown tab. Any suggestions would be welcome.

Preferred Solution: Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Network devices listed under Unknown in Device Manager

Well, oddly enough I managed to resolve this. I removed the devices under Unknown, then attempted to install an external USB wireless device (Realtek chipset). I used the installation disk for Windows 7 since there didn't appear to be one for Windows 10. When the OS set up the new device, it also rescanned and installed the other network devices... Properly this time! I uninstalled the new external device and all seems to be well with the world. I have no idea why this worked.

I am having a slight issue with my new setup, appears to be driver-side. Every time I restart my computer a window pops up stating that a driver could not be installed for "IDE channel." This box appears six times in which I have to close out. There are six of these "IDE channel" devices listed (under IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers) in the Device Manager w/ the little (!) next to them. When I go to install a driver for each of the devices I get "driver is not intended for this platform" or something like that. I don't know what I should do because I'm really not sure what I am looking at exactly. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I've installed all the drivers for my motherboard, graphics cards, and sound card ...all of which work fine. In the Device Manager, I am also seeing two "PCI device" and a single "Unknown" device. The only PCI card I have installed is the Sound Blaster and I installed the drivers for that; it works fine. No idea what the "Unknown" is...

Hallo,

I have installed Vista on my Satellite A100-771. I have also installed all the drivers downloaded from the Toshiba Support site.
But when Vista starts, one message come out always ----- new hardware founded. I really don't know which hardware it is.

There is a unknown Device in device manager, and windows cannot find the driver for this device online.

Can anyone help me?
Thanks a lot!

Answer:Vista on Satellite A100 - Unknown device listed in device manager

Hi there,

may I ask you which drivers you?ve downloaded? And regarding the new founded hardware: Did you checked your device manager for that device?
What is standing there as the non-installed device? Mass-storage or multimedia? Please be more precisely with your explanation and don?t forget the drivers to list.

Thx

I'm really stuck, so I'd appreciate help if someone can give it.

I'm working on someone's computer. I should mention that I am doing this remotely, & I don't have another choice just now.

Due to a whole mess that with his computer, we needed to do a full destructive installation of windows. (XP Pro SP2)

Now, here's the problem. There were no USB devices listed in the device manager in windows after the new installation. There also aren't any unknown devices. There had been one, for audio, but I've fixed that.

The computer is older & the motherboard is a Microstar International MS-6738. I went to their site. i've run their live update multiple times but it just isn't finding anything missing regarding usb controllers and I did the 3 available updates for the motherboard. They didn't seem related, but i tried just in case. No luck, besides of course the audio working.

At this point I'm really at a loss. I feel like throwing the computer out the window, except I can't even reach it to do that! lol

Any ideas? Thanks for spending the time, for anyone who read this.
I did also run belarc advisor. If it would help, ask & i'll post it, as long as that's ok on this board.

Hi,

hopefully I have selected the correct section to post this question.

Basically my PC(Dell Dimension 2400) has stopped recognising USB devices (1 exception).
I have tried connecting an iPhone, an external hard drive, a flash drive and a digital camera.

I've read a few forums and after trying a few things have noticed that there is an Unknown Device shown in Device Manager. On looking further I found that it is USBROOT_HUB20.

I am assuming this is the cause of the problem.

So far I have tried the following

Deleting unknown device and restarting PC, no effect
Re-Install chipset drivers
BIOS Update
All of these worked in their own right, but not with regards to fixing the unknown device issue.

The one exception I mentioned is a printer which has its own power source, so thought perhaps that could be the cause i.e. a lack of power to the other devices.

Can anyone help and is this possibly the cause of my problem with the above devices ?

The technical information on my PC is:

Anti Spyware Software : AdAware

Answer:USB\ROOT_HUB20 listed as Unknown in Device Manager

Good information helps, thanks.

This is normally a driver issue ... is there a yellow exclamation/question mark by the device in Device Mangler, if so, it needs updating, worth checking the Windows Update Site anyway, use the "custom" button to look for all updates.

However, you could try using an external USB "powered" hub ... beg, borrow or buy one. Look for "HighSpeed" sticker or logo. Cheap enough.

It's not unusual for a USB to fail, or cause the devices to fail, by trying to draw too much juice. A std hard drive needs 12v but the std USB port typically only produces 2.5 watts at 5 volts ... we seem to be a bit short.

That was only a loose example, but you get my drift.

Here is a great source of anything USB ...

I have a Toshiba laptop, model L505-ES5018. I had Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit installed on here, but decided to reformat my hard drive using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. After the reformat was finished, I ran Windows Update and it found several items to download and install for me. I noticed that it also found optional items to download and install for me, so after all the important updates installed, I ran the optional updates. After all of this installed, I checked Device Manager to see if there were any errors and I found nothing. I assumed everything was fine. I decided to check Devices and Printers and under my laptop icon, there was a yellow icon with an exclamation point on it. I decided to run the troubleshooting option when I right-clicked the icon....it gave me a solution to download a Toshiba password utility program, so I did that and nothing happened, even after restart. Same icon appeared. When I clicked on the icon a second time, I noticed that the model of my computer at the bottom of this window, changed from L505 to TIAS. I have no idea what this is. I decided to do another reformat on my hard drive. This time, I ignored the optional updates. I checked Devices and Printers again, the same icon appeared but the model of my computer said L505, like it should. There is something in the optional updates that is changing this. Could it be the Intel chipset driver that the optional update is pushing? I'm not sure. I went back to Device Manager, th... Read more

I cannot currently get online through wifi or an eithernet cable. In my device manager one iteam is listed as an 'unknown device' and I believe it may be my network driver. Also I get a driver error when trying to connect to my wifi, but I am able to see my wifi and connect to it with my phone. I'm assuming I'll need some sort of driver download, but being as my older phone is the only way I can get in the internet right now it's been hard tracking down what I need. I own a NV57H20u laptop. If someone could link the download for me that would great. Or let me know what I should do instead. Also I've already ran the computer in safe mode with networking and AVG as well as Malwarebytes without any luck.

Answer:Network driver is listed as 'unknown device'

On the unknown device in Device Manager, right click and select Properties. Under the Details tab select Hardware ID's in the dropdown box. Please copy and paste the first line in your next post.

I have T61p 6460-8WU which I downgraded to XP with the Lenovo supplied XP Downgrade CD's.  I recently restore from those CD's again.  I have the latest BIOS, but ever since I had the machine I have had the wired network disabled in the BIOS, the AtMEL TPM device was disabled because it said in the BIOS it couldn't be enabled with the wired LAN disabled, the Firewire disabled since I don't have any devices like that, and maybe one other thing disabled.  After my last restore, I decided I wanted to get the latest drivers for *everything* installed before making an image of the drive so that I didn't have to restore again with this flaky restore CD process to a backlevel point, so I enabled everything in the BIOS. Now I have two Unknown Devices with the yellow exclamation point icon in Device Manager, and I can't find device drivers for them anywhere on the Lenovo site.  These devices are: 1.   PCI Serial Port2.   PCI Simple Communications Controller Any help in finding the appropriate drivers for these devices would be greatly appreciated!

I clean installed an ASUS Laptop Model a2500h, Windows XP Home edition SP3.

There are two drivers that I can't seem to locate. The Hardware ID's are as follows.

ACPI\WEC0515
ACPI\WEC0517\4&19A7495A&O

I know ASUS often has utility programs that show up as drivers, for example I had the ACPI\ATK0100 which was listed as an UNKNOWN DEVICE, and I installed that utility fine.

I am just not sure about the other two. I was told on another forum that it could be something to do with the sound drivers, but I suspect it is one of ASUS' little utility programs.

Any help would be appreciated. Also if any additional info is required, let me know and I will post it.

Answer:Device Manager 2 Unknown devices Help?

You can go to asus's official website to download drivers, in most cases is a sound card problem.Or you can go to download a "My Drivers", to another similarly configured machine up a backup drive, then copy to your computer up.Good luck.

If it is a new unit this should not happen. Did you cut the factory tape on the box? Maybe someone altered something? As far as fixing it. First try pressing the blue button at system startup and restore to factory defaults. If that doesn't work call Lenovo and tell them about it.You could go get unknowndevices, run it and it will give you a clue as to what the unknown devices are. Then go get the drivers and install them.

Hey guys, I Recently had Windows 7 installed on one of my computers but the computer isn't very good so I downgraded back to windows xp sp2.

My problem is after Windows Xp installs on this computer it doesn't detect my network device. What I mean by this is there is no network tab or anything listed in the device manager.

My ethernet is built into my mboard which is an EVGA nf66.

I've tried installing all sorts of drivers and combinations of the such and nothing seems to work. The internet worked fine prior to installed xp and has had xp before without this problem.

Also, in the device manager there are 3x devices that are listed with yellow exclamation marks beside them that I am unsure what they are.

-PCI device
-other pci bridge device
-sm bus controller

I previously had another computer with this same exact problem that I couldn't fix as well, the only way I could fix it was to install windows 7.

Please help guys I really need this to work.

Does anyone else have these two Unknown Devices in their XPS 13 device manager? I don't recall removing anything that would cause this and the system can't find any device drivers for it nor does updating the drivers from the dell web site resolve it. There isn't any current function that we're using that isn't working so I'm not sure what category of thing these are and the hardware ID's aren't of the expected format so they don't reveal anything either.  Everything is unplugged and wireless is turned off(airplane mode on) so these are not external items.

When he performs a search and tries deleting it will not allow him to. Now he tells me there are over FIFTY unknown devices showing. When he right-clicked one it came up with LPT Port....He has doubled the memory (to 512mb) with no discernable improvement. I would move everything to his second HDD and reformat, but I am not there and he feels this is too much to try himself. Wait a moment. Which operating system you try to configure?

Have you checked on Toshiba download section if ?installations Instructions? document is available? If you just follow this document you will install all you need and everything will be OK.
Anyway, multimedia controller can be Multicard reader device, network controller is probably wireless card. I cannot say what unknown device is because I do not know which drivers you have installed already.

Answer:Re: Satellite L300 - Unknown devices in device manager

Hi

Could it be possible that the 3rd party software which you have installed to use the USB ports has muddled up the whole system?

The driver for the unknown device which appear in the device manager can be identified very easily.

I recommend checking this HowTo:
http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/ann.jspa?annID=78

You need the Vendor ID and Device ID and using these both ID in pci database would help you to find out the right driver.

By the way: if your Wlan and cam don?t work, install the drivers? die you already tried this?

Hi there are many out there who seem to have the same problem after the  Windows 10 upgrade to your Acer: the touchpad did not work any more.Connecting an external USB mouse works perfect. Here is what I did to get it running again:- I checked in the Device Manager all drivers and noted that the Intel Serial IO Driver had a yellow exclamation mark- for security reasons I made first a new restore point- then I uninstalled the IO driver and downloaded the latest version from the Acer Support pages:IO DriversIntelSerial IO Driver604.10135.1001.530013.4 MB2015/08/11You need of course to check the right version for your own model, the above is for the Acer Aspire V3-112P- I installed the driver in normal mode (no compatibility mode) and restarted the computer AND I removed my USB mouse during the restart- now the touchpad was immedidately recognized and it started to work and it also showed up as a HID/PS2 mouse in the device manager- I reinstalled the USB mouse and went to the "Settings", "Mouse and Touchpad" and kept both external mouse and touchpad active together. Both drivers now were visible in the device manager.- it is now possible to switch on/off the touchpad with the Fn/F7 key. I hope that the above helps to identify. The first three say "Drivers not installed ..." and show in the "Details" tab the "Property: Device instance path" with the "Value: ACPI\INT33FC\n" (n = 1,2,3). The "SDA ..." says "Device currently waiting on another device ...". So I think the last problem might somehow be based on the first three problems(?).I installed all drivers given on the Acer website for Win 10/64 bit.I tried to update the drivers in the device manager ... the problems are still there.I used the Intel "Driver Update Utility" ... the problems are still there.I found some hints in the web concerning "ACPI\INT33FC\n" - but mainly on, in my opinion, strange sites for drivers updates. But somehow I do not trust those pages ...Has anybody a solution for this problem? Or the same problem? Is this a serious thing? Shall/can I ignore it? Maybe until an upcoming driver update by Acer?Any help is welcome! Thanks in advance!

Answer:Windows 10 device manager: "unknown devices", ACPI...

ACPI is part of Intel IO drivers:http://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Driver/IO%20Drivers/IO%20Drivers_Intel_603.9600.1948.28229_W... sometimes you need to force the installation manually, so go to the ACPI unknow devices, update/install drivers, search manually and browse to drivers folder and let windows choose the right one.

I have a dv7-2170us laptop.I performed a clean install with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.I used the drivers for this laptop model from the HP site.I'm getting a few unknown devices in Device Manager.I've tried un-installing the devices and re-installing to allow Windows to re-detect but no drivers are found.  See pictures below, what devices could these possibly be referring to? I have all the necessary drivers loaded that I am aware of and I installed any driver that looked valid from the HP drivers site.

Answer:Unknown devices in Windows 7 device manager - dv7-2170us

EDIT: Everything works!  Thanks for the tip Daniel.  I googled how to identify hardware id's and came up with this site http://www.pcidatabase.com/ , punched in the device id's and bam, it WAS the card reader.  Weird because it was working perfectly.  But I downloaded the driver anyway and re-installed and this resolved the issue.  ============================================= I tried the Intel Chipset Utility, didn't work. Here's the hardware id's though:  If you look closely you'll notice that each of these devices are in fact different.

Answer:thinkpad Helix - 2 unknown devices in Device Manager

The only time I got the same problem was if I put the tablet to sleep while docked to the keyboard, removed it...and woke it up again. Or as my memory is a bit fuzzy, it might have been the other way around. If you are having devices that are missing drivers, then if you post a picture of what you have in the device manager I can compare and find what is missing.

Have just installed XP on a U300, I've downloaded every driver from the website.
Now i've got 2 Unknown devices ! Any ideas of what these could be ?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro U300 - 2 Unknown devices in Device manager running XP

One could be the unknown PCI memory manager.
This PCI memory controller is Intel Turbo Memory also called Intel Flash cache logic chip.
It is a new technology designed to support new Vista capabilities.
There is no driver for it for Windows XP, because XP doesn?t support the cache function. Only Vista supports this!

I have no idea what could be the other unknown device. Check simply what devices don?t run and you will know what it is!

Hi,  I've just bought G700 (59-377707), a clear without OS version.  I've just installed 64bit Windows 7 and installed all available drivers (some from the CD, some from Lenovo Support website). However, the device manager still shows two devices as "Unknown". Here are the details:Device 1Hardware Ids: root\spfd_busDevice Instance Path: ROOT\SYSTEM\0001Device 2Hardware Ids: root\Lenovo\VhidDevice Instance Path: ROOT\LENOVOVHID\0000I think the second one is concerning power management. However, as I already installed available drivers and updates I would also ask for any help on it.  Thanks a lot!

Hi,

Windows 7 64 Bit, does not detect ANY network adapters. We installed windows in August and it has been fine, now for some reason it simply doesn't detect any adapters at all and does not display a Network Adapters heading in the device manager folder tree.

The hardware in question is an onboard LAN card on a ASUS Sabertooth X58 motherboard, the lan card is listed in the bios as a RTL8110SCLAN

I have checked to be sure that the device is enabled in the BIOS, as well as disabling other on board devices in case there was some kind of conflict. I also tried installing an add on LAN card and that card is not detected either. I have also reset the bios and removed the battery etc. I have tried reinstalling the chipset and other drivers and I have uninstalled windows updates that happened near the time the network adapter vanished.

I used RKILL and ran ComboFix and Malwarebytes to clean up a few minor virus/spyware files. But that too has not helped.

This is my first post, but I have been a big fan for a long time you guys do great things.

Please help before I get any more grey hair.

Thanks

So I'll try to keep this short.

I have a HP B209a-m that I have just gotten rid of and now am trying to remove all the software from my system. I've run revo and the issue still persists.

It gives me a device install path of ROOT\MULTIFUNCTION\xxx where xxx is a number. I have about 20-30 of these instances in my device manager and all have different install paths. I'd really like to remove these. I've run the HP L4 Uninstaller multiple times and still the issue is here.

I'd just really like to remove HP from my life.

Thanks for the help.

I had some trouble last night and today with getting rid of a virus. Now that it is gone, I am having sound problems (maybe related, maybe not). This morning, when I opened iTunes I got a message that there was no audio device detected. After trying several things, I rebooted. Magically, I could play music again. However, a short while later, I again got an error message telling me that there is no audio device found, even though it shows up in Device Manager as working properly. The problem goes away for a short time after I reboot, but returns. It is Realtek AC 97. Why won't my computer keep recognizing it?

(It tried going to Realtek's site to download an update. It has updates for Windows 98, 95, etc., but not for XP. Or at least I couldn't find it.)

After refreshing a family Dell Vostro 3460 with new HD, new Windows 7 and a driver disk that was also provided by the (legit) Windows vendor), and after all the Windows updates, everything is fine in Device Manager except for three items, for which updated drivers cannot be found, and one for which no driver present at all. I don't know enough to know where to being looking for whatever is needed.
They are:
Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller
Unknown device
USB2.0-CRW
The unknown might be the built-in card reader in the front? Just a guess, since no other USB devices are "attached" as for as I know.
The CRW is the one that shows up as having no driver present.
Can anyone assist me? More info needed from me?

Hello,
I recently tried switching from a USB wireless headset to a audio jack set of headphones, only to realize none of the outputs on my PC are working. I checked the device manager and the only audio devices listed are my GPU and 'intel display audio'... my mobo's audio device isn't listed there so i'm guessing this is the reason none of the outputs are working.

Anyone know a way around this? I only noticed this after installing windows 10.
Cheers!

Answer:Mobo audio device isn't listed in device manager

Looks like you have posted a picture but i can not access it.
What mobo do you have? you should be able to download the drivers from the mobo manufacturer's site.
but first try Start - Power - Restart (not shutdown) this sometimes forces windows to see hardware and install new drivers.

There are 2 connections, a ribbon lead and a power lead. If you have a spare power lead from the power supply unit try that one in place. Also make sure the ribbon lead is firmly pushed onto the M/B.

Anybody have any thoughts on the subject? Should 2 be listed because it's a dual core CPU?

Yes, there's supposed to be 2 there. It counts 2 "logical" CPU's, but there's still only 1 physical CPU. It's the same in my Core 2 Duo computer; and if you were to have a quad core, there'd be 4 listed in the device manager.

Good day everyone!

I have an issue with the Touchscreen LCD listed in the title, an LG monitor. The problem is, I plug in the device, Win7 then tries to automatically install drivers (I have a working internet connection), it fails, and asks for a reboot. I reboot, then it recognizes (or doesn't recognize - i should say) the display as an unknown device, installs the driver for such a device (successfully installs, ready to use, name: unknown device) and the touchscreen does not work.

The problem came up when the PC was turned off (it is used in a caf? for administration and such) properly after a day of work without any issues. The monitor has been used for 3 years now, without any errors. The next morning it started being listed as an unknown device and I can not sort out the problem. Things I tried:

-Plugging it out, then back in.
-Turning it off and on again.
-Using another USB slot.
-I asked everyone who had access to the computer if they did anything, they did not.
-I asked if they even plugged a USB flash drive in, they did not.
-Installing the touchscreen driver from LG's site (win7 never asked for it, the automatically downloaded driver always worked up until now)
-Disabling the device, removing the display's USB and VGA cable, uninstalling drivers, then plugging it in, reinstalling everything.
-Disabling and uninstalling every USB root hub from device manager, reinstalling every driver.
-Installing Microsoft FixIt, running it.
-Running the Win7 HDD repair servic... Read more

Hi,

This is a common problem with a simple solution. In Device Manager make sure that DMA is OFF for the CDROM. Also update IDE drivers.
Also try hitting the Windows Key (on keyboard) and Pause key at the same time, or go to control panel and open System. Go to device manager and locate your CD-Rom Drive. D-click it and go to the settings tab. There should be a box where you can check/uncheck Removable. Mine is greyed out so I can't do anything to it. See if your is checked and uncheck it. If not, let us know.

Good luck,

Hey!
I'm using an dell inspiron laptop with windows vista. Few days back, installed windows Xp professional successfuly. The main purpose I installed xp was to program a microcontroller via the com ports. But to my surprise the com ports were not listed in the device manager in XP! Any help??

Answer:COM Ports not listed in device manager

Are you sure the laptop actually has a COM Port? Finding a laptop with a COM port newer than a Pentium III model is rare, as they have been all but replaced by USB.

Make sure you're not confusing a VGA port for a COM port. Same size and shape but the VGA has 3 rows of contacts (15 total) instead of 2 rows of contacts (9 total) for a COM port.

If the laptop shipped with Vista I'd be surprised if it did. Even many 4-5 year old laptops that shipped with XP don't have a COM port.

If it does have a COM port, check in the BIOS to make sure it's not disabled

Answer:Ports not listed in Device Manager

Well it certainly should show any working external com ports. It may not show and "virtual" comports such as those emulated in Win-modems - I seem to remember it does, but I can't check as I don't have a modem.I presume you do have at least one externally accessible com port on your system? You should look in the BIOS to check whether it's shown there as active, and not disabled. What is it you wish to change? - it's an uncommon requirement to need to change com port settings.

If I use the original Receiver, nothing works.

I tried re-installing MS IntelliType Pro 5.5 for both but only the mouse works.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Windows XP home edition, in the device manager - 4 monitors are listed. 3 of which are default (winseset) and 1 plug and play. Does any one know how to get rid of these? I only have one! I have tried deleted them and letting windows find the monitor and the same four show.

Answer:4 monitors listed in device manager

If you have more than 1 monitor port, it might list all the ports. (i'm guessing you don't have 4 though) Sounds like a weird system error or something like that.

My printer assigned to LPT1 stopped printing after a mishap. When I went to device manager, the ports are no longer listed. Ports have disappeared.

Answer:No ports listed in device manager

Might have to install motherboard drivers. I guess it could be a bios issue that they are disabled there. Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

Hi!

I have two USB audio devices that I cannot seem to properly install drivers for.
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 & KORG MicroKONTROL

I am in communication with both product tech support teams but so far they have not offered a successful solution. As the same issue is occurring with multiple devices I thought it might be an OS issue.
I run Win 7 Home Premium x64

The problem is as follows:

The product drivers install correctly without error. However, instead of showing up in the Device Manager in either USB Controllers or Sound Controllers they both show in Other Devices with a yellow exclamation mark.
I have tried the following fix from this site (USB Driver - General Fix for Problems) and this actually enabled me to access a portable HDD that wasn't working, but it didn't fix the issue for my 2 audio devices.
I have also tried right clicking on the devices in Other Devices, selecting Driver Update. I then find the correct drivers listed but when I hit install I get the following error message on both:
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. One of the installers for this device cannot perform the installation at this time."

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Audio USB Devices showing under Other Devices in Device Manager

Could it be the two devices are competing with each other and the driver installer gets confused? Details on the devices and the needs to use two of the same type probably would be helpful.

Hello everyone,

Laptop Samsung NP300V5A. Sound stops working about a month after Win 10 upgrade. No changes done at the time.

Audio devices show up under Device Manager, but not under Playback/Recording Devices. Same for Realtek Sound Manager - it doesn't see the devices. I can install, delete and update drivers under Device manager but it doesn't make any difference. It is not a physical problem, tested on Linux live CD.

Solutions tried:
-Installing various versions of HD Realtek Drivers (including windows update version)
-Installing/Removing Realtek software.
-Enabling/Disabling devices under Device Manager
-Called spirits of ancestors. Seemed like it worked for a while, but ended up being a joke.
-Did system restore to various dates.
-Restarted in safe mode
-Restarted various services such as Windows Audio, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, Plug'n'Pray, Power, etc.
-Checked system, application and driver even logs.
-Tried a couple of registry fixes. Angered spirits of ancestors. Turning gray..
-Reinstalled chipset drivers
-Rebooted about 30 times
-Sound Device Troubleshooting finds no issues
-Display Disabled Devices is enabled

I've been looking for a solution to this issue for about a week with no result.

Answer:Audio devices in Device Manager, but not in Playback Devices

By what you have done, it suggests a Windows/sound corruption. Probably going to take a Windows reinstall. Sorry.

Possible solution:
Make a linux usb live disk. e.g. use Rufus to make an ubuntu usb install disk.
Change bios boot order to boot from linux live disk.
When linux is booted up, open up the built in browser, and go to a webcam testing website on google to turn on the webcam. After you see that the webcam works, reboot back into Windows, and Windows might reinitiate and reinstall the webcam driver to get the webcam working again.
Problem:
Laptop built in webcam suddenly listed as unknown device in device manager. Uninstall, reboot, detect hardware, does not work, and device remains as "unknown device" in dev manager. Driver update fails, as there are no drivers available from manufacturer or microsoft.
Basically every possible troubleshooting method short of OS reinstallation fails.
(recently my asus k53ta laptop webcam suffered this issue. Posting this here for search engine results)

Answer:Webcam suddenly doesn't work, listed as unknown device.

Most likely there is a malware &or virus that took control of your webcam &or others.

Recommend to go to SuperAntiSpyware.com to download the free version.
Run the scan by selecting "Scan this computer" and do a "quick scan".
If not resolve, do a full scan.

I have updated my bios ,update came out last month, and still under the device manager it shows "unknown device". The BIOS recognizes it and the Sytem under Control Panel recognizes it. Anyone with the same issue? I don't have any performance problems and didn't even with the old bios. I attached a screenshot.

Answer:Q9650 Intel Quad Core listed as unknown device?

I have looked on the net and this seems to be a fairly common problem. One suggestion that came up few times that seemed to work was to uninstall the unknown devices in Device Manager and then run a refresh or reboot.

You may be able to use a vista driver if you install it in compatibility mode. to do that right click the installer>properties>choose OS

Hi,

While exploring Device Manager today in my Win 8.1 system I discovered I had three entries listed under Sound, Video and Game Controllers:

(1) AMD High Definition Audio Device
(2) CyberLink WebCam Virtual Driver
(3) Realtek High Definition Audio
Every now and then when my wife is playing some of her Facebook games she says the computer will shut down and restart with a message similar to: "Your PC ran into some problems and needs to restart. We will correct them and restart for you." She says that message is preceded by what looks like a 'sad' happy face.

As an added note in Device Manager under Audio inputs and outputs both my Microphone and Speakers are controlled by Realtek High Definition Audio.

That being said do I really need the two Sound Cards (1) and (3)? If not, which one could I disable?

Thanks and regards,
2harts4ever

Answer:Two sound cards listed in Device Manager

The AMD High Definition Audio Device is for HDMI audio.
The Cyberlink Webcam is for your web cam.

Nothing there that is duplicate or needs disabling.

The problem with the PC ran into some problems has nothing to do with audio. Can't say what that is but its for one of the other forum sections that deals with crashes.

Hello -- I have a problem regarding the NVidia NVS 5400M inside the Thinkpad T430. I use Windows 8. I'm not exactly sure how it happened, but the NVidia card no longer shows up in Device Manager and the NVidia driver (both the standard driver from their website AND Lenovo's Optimus driver) refuses to install, complaining it can't find any compatible hardware. Device Manager does not list any graphics cards or unknown devices, and as far as Windows is concerned the NVidia card does not exist. Here's a summary of what I see:In Discrete Graphics mode -- my Linux installation (which uses native NVidia drivers) works fine and uses the NVidia card. Windows 8 boots and runs with a generic graphics driver; there is a performance hit, and no graphics cards or unknown devices are listed in Device Manager. That's the problem I want to fix.In Optimus mode -- Windows 8 boots and runs with the Intel integrated graphics (Intel HD Graphics 4000) which is listed in Device Manager. Again, no other graphics cards or unknown devices are listed. I appreciate in advance any help towards getting the NVidia drivers installed successfully!

Hi there
1. I recently purchased an Asus X53-sx1159v laptop (Windows 7 64 bit os - other detals at bottom ).
2. While it has a wifi network connection (which works fine), it doesn't seem to have any listing for ethernet (ie wired) connection. (even though it has the port for wired access.)

3. When i look under computer/device manager/networks, all i get is the wifi atheros 9485 network adaptor. There is no other listing. (see attched file for screen grabs)
4. Am i missing something obvious with all this? The Asus website has examples of this model with screen grab which includes an ethernet adaptor as well (see attached file)

Note that laptop is labelled as an X53 series but in the computer it get listed as a K53e - nice and confusing.
any advice appreciated - DEM

I've just bought B590 model 20206 (integration 59397712). Original OS was FreeDOS, but I've installed Windows 7. The seller's site says there should be a discrete nVidia GPU, but I do not see any other than the integrated Intel GMA. BIOS, AFAIR, do not have any options on the GPU switching also. Does my laptop contain nVidia GPU at all or am I deceived? If it does contain it, then how do I make it visible in the device manager? P.S. I've tried (re-)installing the drivers several times w/o any effect.P.P.S. Everything else works fine. There are no unknown devices in the device manager. Also, there are no warnings or errors in the devices list.

Wifi is not working in my envy m6. Some times wifi will work and suddenly the wifi symbol disappears. While wifi connected then ralink wireless driver was listed in the network adapter but when it goes of that driver won't be listed and the color of wifi button is always in red

Answer:Sometimes Wifi drivers is not listed in device manager

Hi: A couple of things you can try... 1. Make sure you have the latest W10 Ralink wireless driver installed.  Install and restart the PC. Package contains the driver installation package for the Mediatek (Ralink) wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system. 5.0.57.0 Rev.A http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp71501-72000/sp71571.exe 2. If the adapter disappears from the device manager, see if running this troubleshooting software helps. This package provides HP Sure Connect (HP Wireless Rescue Tool) for supported models running a supported operating system. HP Sure Connect automatically recovers the driver of a communications device that has stopped functioning. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp78001-78500/sp78408.exe

Hello Everyone,

I have a Compaq Presario F553US running Windows 7 Home Premium 32 Bit, I just installed a new copy of the OS so I know this is not virus related. I cannot get my wirless card to be detected in the device manager. I downloaded the drivers and HP Wirless Assistant and still nothing. So I thought maybe the wirless card was bad and replaced it with a new card. But still nothing, I even checked the BIOS to make sure that the wirless was enable and it was.

So now I have no idea was this suddenly stop working, the light on the front (next to the wireless switch) is an orange color instead of blue. Do anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this problem.

Thanks
Jim

Answer:Wirless Card Not lIsted in device manager

I've seen a number of laptops where the built-in wireless device stopped working and had to be replaced with an external USB wireless adapter. It sounds like you have the same problem.

I'm am trying to update my firmware for my Sony Optiarc 5500s... basically my Blue Ray dvd rom drive for my Laptop (Asus M70-B1) because a blue ray dvd is not working properly. When Windvd BD starts playing the dvd It says that it could have a 2-3 minute load time based upon the compatabilities of my hardware. It gets through the previews fine but it will not load the main menu of the movie and after a short period of time my Blue Ray dvd rom spins down and ceases to do anything. I let the black screen sit for well over 5-7 minutes and still nothing.

I assume that a firmware upgrade could fix it. I went to

http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/en/support-service/downloads/blu-ray2

and got my firmware upgrade. It is a flashing tool and when I clicked flash it said "updated failed".
They give an update procedure here:
http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/en/support-service/downloads/updateprocedure.html

My problem is that I cannot disable DMA on my DVD rom because I have no channels listed under my "Ide ata/atapi controllers"
I have "Intel(r) ICH9M-E/M SATA AHCI Controller" (which doesn't seem to contain anything useful" and then controllers for my multi card reader.

My DVD Rom drive is on channel 1. It's using the basic windows drivers and it explains this here:
http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/en/suppo...ny-drivers-to-download#FY6okbB-ZbPUErTGoGvQxA

I'm running Vista Home Premium, Motherboard is Intel PM45 Montevina

Answer:No IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers listed in my Device Manager

Contact Sony about the issue, it is a Sata Optical drive, and XP-Vista has no method to change the UDMA setting on Sata devices.

http://www.sony-optiarc.eu/en/meta_start/contact

The only other suggestion is if there is a way to change it in the bios, unlikely.

I upgraded my Y650 to Windows Ultimate so I could become a member of the domain at work. Everything went swimmingly with the upgrade except the web cam. It no longer works (and Fn+Esc does not help). When I look at the device manager, it is not listed. I went out to the support page and downloaded the driver for Vista 64 (IN1CAM20WW3). When I go to install, the message comes up that says: "No Matched Device Driver" and installation quits. Can anyone help me get my web cam back so I can use Veriface? Thank you! :: toma ::

Answer:Web cam not working, not listed in Device Manager (not turned off)

You need to install energy management first.

I recently replaced a Logitech mouse with a MS Wireless 5000. After initially installing the 5000, I found that in device manager it was listed twice. This didn't seem to be causing any problems and I left it alone but have since had a few BSODs. Wasn't having any problems before the mouse install.

So I went into device manager and uninstalled one of the entries but did not delete the drivers.

On reboot, there are now two entries again but one is "HID compliant mouse" and the other is "Microsoft USB Dual Receiver Wireless Mosue (IntelliPoint)".

Is it normal to have both of these items listed? If not, how do I stop Windows from installing the second driver on every reboot?

Answer:2 mouse drivers listed in device manager

Both entries refer to the same mouse and should be left alone.

Your new mouse is a "HID compliant mouse" like every modern mouse, so Windows loads it's own driver for that.

But you've also installed the Intellipoint driver which accounts for the second entry in the 'Mice' category of Device Manager.

I also use a MS wireless mouse but I didn't have to install a driver for it. Windows took care of that (Windows 7), so my Device Manager shows only one mouse entry which is "HID compliant device".

Unless your MS mouse has any special functions with extra buttons, it should work perfectly well for standard functions without the Intellipoint software & driver, in which case you too would have only one mouse entry in Device Manager.

i'm using windows 7 64-bit. i've tried uninstalling one of each but they immediately reappear. another odd issue is that if enable the usb keyboard wake option in bios, the computer won't sleep while having 2 of each device listed under device manager. if i disable the wake option in bios, the computer will sleep but i can't wake the computer with the keyboard which i need to do since my power button doesn't work. there was a short period in which i had only 1 of each device listed in the device manager and the sleep and wake processes worked fine. i'm not sure what happened to cause 2 keyboards and 2 mice to appear. any tips?

Answer:2 HID keyboards and mice listed in device manager

Hi,
I have Windows 7 x64 as well and have 3 each HID keyboards and mice. This is normal for me (four different installs on two computers) and is a result of other Human interface devices (HID). One is an IR remote control.

With all above, my sleep works fine.

In the device manager, select view by connection and see which device is attached to these entries.
