GTX1080 SLI Surround Flickering In-Game Only

Question: GTX1080 SLI Surround Flickering In-Game Only

Hi, Guys and Gals.
I just got my MSI GTX1080 Sea Hawx SLI and NVIDIA's SLI Bridge installed but somehow two of the three monitors flicker in-game.

Overall performance is really great, but on two screens the monitor flickers like an analog TV or so...

I have read somewhere that flickering on 1080 might happen, but only on desktop, watching videos or websurfing, but this problem is only in-game. But it happens every time.

The problem only occurs on TWO of the three displays used for NVIDIA Surround AND first I thought it was the card, but both monitors are on different cards in the SLI rig. So the screen that does not flickers also shares the card with a monitor that flickers.

Two are connected using DVI-D cable and one is connected with a DVI-D cable and a Display Port adapter to make it fit because the 1080s only has one DVI-D port each.

Playing in windowed mode (even borderless) makes the flickering go away, but as soon as I switch back to fullscreen it flickers again.

Please help here if you can or point me to the right direction. I appreciate that very much.

I posted the same problem to the NVIDIA Forum, but no luck so far.... https://forums.geforce.com/default/t...in-game-only-/

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: GTX1080 SLI Surround Flickering In-Game Only

Hallo Malte und willkommen in der Windows Zehn forum

I did a quick Google search and found a thread on an overclocking forum where someone had the same issue, and the solution provided was to check if the bridge was inserted correctly, he said that his SLI bridge was a little bit loose and that is why he had flickering.

Have you checked this?

And how about the NVIDIA drivers, do you have the latest ones available?

You can check them here: NVIDIA Drivers

And also remember that there will be a big amount of games out there that don't have that great support for SLI!

Cheers, Boris

Hey all,

I have recently purchased a Logitec X-530 5.1 surround system for my PC, which has an on-board Realtek AC'97 sound (one of the newer ones, which have separate surround inputs and even optical out), with up-to-date drivers. The system works perfectly - speaker tests using the driver software work great, movies also play in full 5.1 Dolby Digital sound. The problem starts with some - not all - of my games.

Games that work in 5.1 surround mode - Call of Duty 2, Quake 4, Prey.
Games that do NOT work in 5.1 surround mode - Condemned: Criminal Origins, F.E.A.R, Half-Life 2.

Now, I still haven't figured out why these games don't work in 5.1, but I thought it's worth mentioning. By the way, settings-wise, everything is set up correctly (5.1 surround is selected within the game and all).

One thought I had regarding the issue was incompatibility with EAX effects, but I ruled that out.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance.

Hello there. So I bought my laptop several months ago, a G500, i3 3110m 2.4GHz, 4gb RAM and AMD HD 8570m. The problem is that when I try to play some games like South Park the Stick of Truth or Heroes of the Storm, I get some sort of flickering of the image, like the first image that appears stays still and the rest of the game runs around it changing between these too, if you know what I mean. I'm running on Win 8.1 now and when I had Win 7 I had the same problem but I found out that it was because of the latest driver, once I installed the driver from the lenovo website I didn't have this problem. On 8.1, I tried with the latest driver and with the one from the lenovo website but no luck so far, should I try some different versions or what do you guys think? Thanks in advance.

You can try installing the driver for windows 8 using "compatibility" settings. Also - install AMD Catalyst drivers for Windows 8.1

Hi,

I got a T440s (Intel 4400) and use Windows 8.1 64x.

All drivers are up to date.

My problem: Minecraft graphics are "flickering". This looks like graphic artefacts from previous shown frames or simply parts missing..

I basically tried everything and completely out of idea. I treid different version of minecraft on different partitions with different java version with different memory setting and tried the last 2 different intel driver versions.

All in vain. This flickering is difficult to catch with a screenshot but i managed to catch below screenshot, where you can see the box for the achievments being partially missing (its only a splitsecond).

recently, my monitor has been flickering and then the whole computer freezes and/or the monitor just shuts off [with a soundloop of the last sound in game]

before i could play HL2, but now i cant even play Counter-Strike without this problem occuring. i used to run CS at 85 fps before but now i'm forced to run it at 60 fps because of the flickering/freezing. It still freezes at 60 fps sometimes. I tried to play Lineage II. . .same result.

i suspect that this may be overheating or my outdated hardware, but i'm not sure what to upgrade

according to EVEREST Home Edition:
OS: Win2000 Pro
CPU: Intel Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz
VGA: GeForce FX 5200 [128 MB, AGP 8x]
Memory: 512 MB [two 256MB DDR SDRAM]

Temperatures
Motherboard: 38 C (100 F)
CPU: 48 C (118 F) it goes as high as 122F in games
Aux: 31 C (88 F)

is there any other info i need to provide ? what about the PSU ? [and how would i find this info?]

i only have 1 fan and it's used to cool the CPU, the video card does not have a fan, it only has a heat sink that gets really really hot. . .i touched it and could not keep my finger there for more than 2 seconds literally. I tried opening the case with a fan blowing into it. this seems to help a bit but my computer ends up freezing anyways.

i have already updated the drivers for my video card. i haven't tried to overclock anything.

Any suggestions to what i should buy ? i got alot of christmas money =) Thanks so much

Answer:Flickering monitor, Freezing Computer, and Lock ups in game

First off you should probably place another fan in the case, or another one on the graphics card. Your other temperatures appear to be normal. I was having issues like this awhile back. Try updating your graphics card driver, but use forceware. Here is the link for your card- http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_81.98.html . Hope this helps!

Hi guys, wasn't sure if I should post this here or in hardware. I had a virus over Memorial Day weekend that messed up my registry, and it took me several hours to fix it. Since then I've been having problems logging into Everquest. At first it was telling me "Reset Device Failed ()".

I did a little research and read that my video card may be shot, so I purchased a GEForce 6200. Installed it and was still having problems with the most recent NVidia drivers, so reinstalled the CD drivers. I was able to log into EQ for about 5 minutes, then moved to a different room and the game crashed. Ever sicne then I haven't been able to get back.

Now what it's doing is when trying to log on (sometimes before character select, sometimes when loading into the world) the monitor looks like it's resetting itself every 2 seconds or so. I get the message "D-sub" in the corner, the screen goes completely black, and again looks like it's flickering on and off, but the green power button on the monitor stays on the whole time. It creates and endless loop and I have to do a manual computer turn off.

The video card is working with every program except EQ. Checked dxdiag/device manager and they say everything is working properly.

I have: The GEForce card, 640MB ram (I know...it's an old comp), running in 1024x960 on both EQ and Desktop. I've tried 60hz refresh, 75 hz refresh and neither help. I'm at a loss for what to do, so any he... Read more

For the past 2 weeks I have been having issues with my display. It started with being unable to launch GTA V after a recent update - it crashes on launch, and after much troubleshooting I can only assume it is because of an issue with my GPU.

Not only am I unable to run that particular game, but I am also experiencing vertical green lines and screen flickering while watching Netflix. It is very quick, but often.

I have tried all the basic things like updating graphics drivers, but I don't really know what to do beyond that.

This is my GPU: https://us.msi.com/Graphics-card/R9-285-GAMING-2G

I have included screenshots from GPU-Z but I don't know what any of that means. :D

**Requesting moderator to move to PC gaming forum if possible! Thank you.**

Good evening TechSupport members,
Long time reader, first time posting! I am experiencing difficulties running an old DirectX6 16bit game of mine in Windows XP Pro (SP3 - fully updated). Amusingly, the game is called 'Space Bunnies Must Die!' (don't ask...)

The issue I'm having is when the game loads in, I'm able to see the HUD and what not, however - the 3D game itself is full of artifacts, strange colors, stretching polygons and to top it off - the screen flickers very rapidly. After doing a bit of research, I've come to the conclusion that it must be a videocard related issue as turning off 3D Hardware in the games options (usually) allows me to play the game fine, albeit in software mode and as a result, looks bad.

I have tried a bunch of things. Disabling and unplugging my secondary monitor, trying compatability modes from Windows 95 to Windows 2000, forcing Vsync off/on, reinstalled DirectX off the games disk, changing resolutions, setting my desktop to 16Bit color, booting XP with 1 core, disabling visual themes, forcing 640x480 and probably more that I can't think of at the moment. The game is just being very stubborn and refuses to play with hardware acceleration. I'm able to run DirectX7 and later games with no issue whatsoever.

My hardware is as follows:
Intel i5 750 CPU
nVidia GeForce GTX 570
12GB RAM
Windows XP Professional

I thought maybe it was the game running too ... Read more

I'm trying to get an Emerson KVM working with my Dell UP2715K and GeForce GTX 1080 card. The specific models are:
- EVGA GeForce GTX 1080- Emerson Avocent SV 340D 4-port dual DisplayPort KVM- Dell UP2715K- Windows 10- 2 sets of dual DisplayPort cables (one from Dell, included with monitor, one from Cable Matters)
I've tested both sets of dual DisplayPort cables directly from the card to the monitor, and they both seem to work fine. I am able to render 5120x2880 at 60Hz. I was able to _briefly_ get this configuration working through the KVM, but only once, and only at 30Hz. It was not reliable, however, and in general I am getting either horizontally stretched (half the screen visible), vertically squashed (fully width visible but only half height), or flashes of full resolution that only last about 5 seconds before going black for 10 seconds or so, then flashing back up.
Is there any hope of getting this configuration working? Is there a possibility that new DisplayPort cables from Dell in place of the Cable Matters cables would help? Thanks for any help.

Hi there,

I'm hoping to get some help with this problem I've been having since upgrading. I'll start with a quick overview:

Had a 780ti since release, decided to upgrade to a Gigabyte 1080G1 just after Christmas. I purchased through Overclockers and was excited to get the card in but I made sure I ran DDU first to get it all set up properly. After about an hour while I was playing Prepar3d the system locked up and my speakers buzzed. This remained until I did a hard reset.

This problem persisted in all 3d games (games like Rimworld no problem). It could happen 20 minutes or 3 hours after play and didn't seem to be triggered by anything in particular and there were no stutters or freezes leading up to the fatal crash. I tried rolling back drivers, uninstalling the gigabyte utilities and Geforce Experience. I spent about a week troubleshooting to no avail. Eventually I rang up Overclockers and RMA'd the card.

Now to the new card which arrived a few days ago. I decided to start a new play through of Witcher 3 and low and behold 15 minutes in the freeze and buzzing from the speakers.

Now it seems to me something is wrong with my system, but no idea what. The only message I get out of windows after the freeze is posted below. There are no abnormal spikes when I monitor the card while playing. With my 780ti in the system everything is fine.

Hi there i have a Z800 box that i am working on...  Specs are as follows:  2x X567596GB 10600DDR31x EVGA GTX 1080 SC 8GB850W PSU The system operates normally under most conditions and is real champ so far.  The video card is attached via the 2x 6pin connectors.   When the box is running Civ 6, when certain characters appear, the computer will just shut down entirely... No warning, no BSOD, just powers off.  Seems to definitely GPU/PSU related.  I picked up a Molex power to 6pin PCI  to use as one of the PCI connectors and the problem has gone away...  However this eats away from the power available on the rails i was going to use for drives etc.  When i use the stock 6 pins, it starts to shut down again.  Are the 2x 6pin on different rails? I see each of the 6 pins has 18amp available on the rails which should be more than enough, but the system shuts down entirely when certain loads are placed upon it.  If i slightly alter the game settings the characters pass normally. (change to 4x AA rather than 8x, in games like Gears of War i have to lower the AA to off else it causes a shut down...).  I had an identical issue with a Lenovo d20, but the fix there was to split power across the rails (that box has 4x6pin)  There is no way to split power here unless i go ghetto and use the molex connectors.  Anyone know any reason it may be doing this?   Can anyone think ... Hi All

I just installed a Gigabyte GTX1080 G1 Gaming into my PC.
But when I start my PC I do not get anything on my monitor.
My Monitor is a Samsung LU24E590DS.

Before I switched my Graphics Card I had a Geforce 750Ti connceted.
I used the HDMI 1 Slot on my Monitor and the DVI-I slot on my Ge 750 Ti via an adapter because I didnt get a Signal HDMI to HDMI.

Now if I use HDMI to HDMI or Displayport to Displayport, I get no Image.
Strange is, before I switched my Cards I had a Resolution of 3840 x 2160.
But if I enter the Menu in my Monitor it shows DisplayPort 640x480.

I can hear my Win7 starting correctly.

Please Help

About four days ago I built my first PC from scratch with no help. I am positive everything is plugged in correctly and there are no loose connections on the Mobo. the full build is here. click here The first day it booted up fine and I got windows installed with almost all of my third party software, iTunes, VLC, Steam, etc. all done...Then I downloaded a few games, CSGO, PUBG, Ghost Recon, and Forza Horizon. When i started up Forza, it let me drive around for a few minutes, then the screen got these green pixels all over it, and the whole PC crashed, not just the game. It tried to reboot, but the GPU would not load am an image, I couldn't even get into bios. I left it unplugged from the wall for a couple hours then came back to it.
When i came back it booted up just fine again but i had to change the resolution back to 1080p. I got all my things going again, and was messaging some friends about the problem when one of them suggested i try a lower scale game. So i got onto CSGO and started running a game just fine, when all of the sudden it did the same green pixels and crashed, again it tried to reboot itself but would not load any image from the GPU. I unplugged it after about 15 mins of frustration and left it for an hour or so. When i came back again and booted it up, it pretty much did a system resume. Everything was the same, i didnt have to change any keyboard setttings or lights, all my display settings were the same too.

I'll give any information I need to to get this problem solved. I've asked it so many times and never get a proper answer and after 2 or so replies the thread dies. I really do need to get this solved as soon as possible. I didn't pay for my 5.1 system to not be able to use it properly.

Ok, here's the issue, I've got a Logitech x540 5.1 surround system. My motherboard ("ASUS M2N-E SLI") has a C-Media sound device and drivers ("C-Media CM6501 Like Sound Device"), and has outputs for full 7.1 audio through stereo 3.5mm jacks. There are 4 of those jacks, along with one for the line-in and one for the mic. The x540 has 3 input jacks, they are colored lime-green, orange, and black.

From my research, the lime-green plug is for front left/right channels; the orange is for rear left/right channels; and the black is for center/sub channels. The x540 came with a cable that had those 3 colored 3.5mm plugs on both ends. I plugged the black plug into my computer and then into my system, followed by the lime-green, and the orange ones. I set up something that had 5.1 surround sound and started playing it. I put my ears up to each of the speakers, starting at front left, front right, rear left...

At rear left, I stopped, there was no sound coming out. I checked my cables, made sure everything was seated properly, checked that the speakers themselves were plugged in, then tried again, checking both the rear left and rear right ... Read more

I read that unplugging the front panel audio connector and replacing the original jumpers would re-enable the back ports, so I tried it. At first I didn't put in the jumpers (as a test) and no sound came out at all, which was weird, so I tried it again, putting the jumpers back in their original positions (I found my manual) and tried it out. Well, it took a little messing, and the 5.1 option still doesn't seem to work, I have to set it to 7.1 to get real 5.1 sound...and even THEN something is wrong. First, the black plug, the one that handles rear left and right channels, well it doesn't output anything at all, I had to plug it into the gray port, which is supposed to handle surround (side) left and right channels, to get any sound from the rear speakers. Annoying but ok. The other thing is, when I put in my Halo 3 Essentials Disc 2 and ran the Surround Sound Test, front left was fine, front right was fine, rear left played from both rear left and right, and rear right played from both rear right and left, then center was fine and bass was fine. Why is it doing that? I want rear left to come out of the rear left speaker and rear right to come out of the rear right speaker, this is so annoying, I mean, I know C-Media sucks, but ASUS had to have a reason for using them, and this is a pretty popular mobo, I know some people ha... I want to upgrade my gt730 GPU to a 1080, but I?m not sure if it?s compatible. If not, What?s the next best GPU that I could upgrade to? Thanks.

Answer:Is an ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX Graphics Card (STRIX-GTX1080-A8G-GAMING) compatible with an XPS 8910?

I think the card will physically fit. You will need to upgrade your power supply.
Search the forums to see what others have stuffed into an 8910 chassis.

Hey guys, I purchased a Creative Inspire T6100 this summer and I got it to work with my Vista Home Prem x64 for a while, then this past week it just broke on me, what i mean is that I only get stereo quality sound (2 front speakers and center when voice chat is on.) My motherboard is the Asus P5Q-Pro and i am using the onboard sound card which is the Realtek HD audio soundcard on 6.0.1.5591 driver version.

Now i went into the settings already and configured my speaker system to 5.1 surround sound (thats what i did when i bought my system first and it worked fine.) now it wont work. when i press test however, all my speakers work, so it cant be a connectivity problem. it is just when i use itunes to play music or when i play games, or youtube or whatever, i only hear the 2 front speakers, my sub and rear 2 just dont work, only gives out staticy sounds when u listen to them.

Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Question: Mp3 Cd in Surround

When I make an audio cd, I can play it in surround mode on my surround system, but if I make an Mp3 cd, I can only play the cd in stereo mode. Why can't I play an mp3 cd in surround mode and is there a way I can burn the cd to allow this?

I know that mp3 files are all in stereo, but somehow when I burn a normal audio cd with mp3 files my surround sound lets me play that in surround mode. I know there probably isn't a difference but in surround mode I can change the equalizer settings but on stereo mode I can't.

My setup:

Nvidia GTX 970 with one of the HDMI ports connected to my Sony STR-DH750 receiver. Running on Windows 10 Home 64-bit.

The problem:

Sound works but I have no base when setup in 5.1 speaker configuration. I have it with plain "surround" and stereo, but as soon as I switch to true surround, I have nothing.

What I've done so far:

In my searching I have found the workaround to change the driver in device manager to straight HD Audio device but that didn't work for me. Also have tried other settings as well to no avail.

Anyone have any other ideas I can try?

Thanks.

Answer:No bass in surround

When you use HDMI the sound is generated by the Video Card, not the regular PC sound card.
Check the spec's for the GTX970's audio to see if it fully supports 5.1. Your post isn't clear but as I read it you are changing to 5.1 in the Sony. Does the Sony have an option to simulate 5.1 when only a stereo signal is input?

Question: Razer Surround Pro

I recently bought the Razer Kraken 7.1 sadly I can't seem to hear the Surround Sound.
Whenever I go to "Audio Deviceslayback" I see the "Headset Earphone (Razer Kraken 7.1)" and "Speakers (Razer Surround Audio Controller)"
When I enable the Headset Earphone I can hear any audio playing but when I enable Razer Surround Audio Controller I can't seem to hear anything even though the bars on the right are flashing green (when there is audio playing).
I suppose something went wrong when setting up the Razer Surround Pro because I couldn't choose from any audio source.

i am looking for a surround sound system for a tv, and i was wondering if this is made for tv or pc, or possibly both. if not then if you could suggest a good system for my tv for not more than maybe 150 dollars, it would be really helpful. here is the system:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121012

and the tv is a samsung 61 inch 1080p dlp, if that matters, its got a LOT of inputs and outputs. thanks for any help everyone! and happy holidays.

Answer:surround sound help.

Get the real deal.

Something like this would be more appropriate and would serve as a hub for all your stuff. Check your audio outputs versus the inputs on the receiver. You'll also have a remote.

Hello, So i decided to buy a new set of speakers for my computer 5 speakers+ sub
the thing is, i can only hear from 2 speakers i've configured for 5 speakers i have arealtek
Hi-Def sound card. i already tested the sounds using the realtek software and it works just fine on all speakers but when i'm playing music or dvds ect. it only comes from 2 speakers.
i Use Windows media player running a windows vista home
PowerDVD i dont know if i need some other player or perhaps some codecs can anyone help me or tell where i can get either one of those free or to pay. thanks in advance

Answer:Need to set up surround sound help =(

the fact that it's working with your realtek software is a positive sign. at least you know the problem is not with your speakers and sound card.

you will need to check your wmp settings, will not be a codec problem since wmp (v11 with vista) will support playing all music, maybe not dvd's!! recommending powerdvd for that. just wonderful software, but not free!!
http://www.cyberlink.com/products/powerdvd/overview_en_US.html
OR
windows media player classis, excellent, efficient and so so easy, and FREE!!
http://www.afterdawn.com/software/v.../media_player_classic.cfm/v6_4_9_1__20080127_

* * wmp settings: go to tools > options > devices > speakers > properties, make sure that the correct audio device is being used, in your case, realtek.

if that's correct or doesn't fix the problem, try uninstalling your realtek software and do a new fresh installation. just to make sure you didn't skip a surround sound setting somewhere maybe. will only be a setting, can promise you that. i'm not familiar with realtek software so can't really guide you to the specific setting problem.

Hi,
I know the question sounds easy to answer and hopefully it will be something simple I've missed.
I have a 5.1 speaker set and onboard 6 channel sound but there is only 1 physical port for sound output.
the motherboard (ECS SM-M V1.0) manual talks about 'adopting' ports for surround sound but there's no explaination on how to do this.
The computer was bought pre-built so I guess any clues (extra parts) that came with the mobo didn't come to me.
Can anyone suggest what to do or suggest a decent, cheapish 6 channel sound card?
Thanks,
Phil

I have recently bought a new 7 pc. stereo system with analog 5.1 surround sound. I am using an HP Pavilion dv9000t notebook with a headphone jack, and an S/PDIF digital output jack as the only options for audio output. I am trying to hook up these speakers to my laptop in the cheapest possible way, avoiding having to buy a converter, and reluctant to buying an adapter though I know that is probably going to be my only other option. The stereo system I bought is from a company called Midiland, and the model number is MX-5. The cable that came with it is what I understand to be a 9-pin DIN to RCA 3X3.5 mm (or 1.25 in.) cable, with a connector that looks like a PS/2 connector for a mouse or keyboard on one end, and three 1.25 in. plugs on the other end, similar to the red, white and yellow composite A/V cables used to connect most DVD players and VCRs to a TV, though these are green (front), orange (center/subwoofer), and black (rear). In the box, there were also 3 adapters that have a female version of the other cable's RCA connectors on one end, and two red and white male RCA adapters on the other end, splitting each of the green, orange, and black connectors into two red and white connectors for a total of 6. The specs for the stereo system and all of the cables included in the box can be found via Amazon here, and the user manual for the multimedia portion of my laptop can be found at the HP website in .PDF form here. I've recently found out that my sound card application (creative audigy) is not compatable with win7 and have yet to find any creative programs that work with my computer. Is there a way around this to still be able to play music on 5.1 surround sound? Like a generic application to play music in 5.1? Or am i just being dumb?

Answer:5.1 surround sound help

That should be "x86" not "x84" in your system specs just to let you know for the 32bit.

Which Creative model are you running? If you have one of the Audigy 4 models or any X-Fi series card no problem on the drivers and audio console launcher! I've been through the Creative support site for those enough times. You system specs show SigmaTEl for the sound card.

Question: Surround sound

I have a yamaha dsp-e492 natural sound processor which uses a seperate amp pioneer a-307r direct energy MOS, For its main speakers... the yamaha does not have a dolby decoder built in and I am wanting to know if I can use my asus crosshair 3 which has the supreme fx, X-fi sound card.. This has outputs for center, main, rear speakers of which I tried to connect to the yamaha. I want to use the computer as a decoder is this actually possible?
I have plugged the rca to phono cables from the center, rear and main speaker outputs on the card into the Yamaha and when put in 6 channel mode I receive sound from the main speakers however the rear and center just give a hissing sound.
when I tried connecting via the amp receiver pre-out input the same thing.
The Yamaha will work with a single output from the computer main (green jack) output and you can put it in dolby mode and receive sound from all connected speakers so the amp isn't blown.
surely there is a way to use the system to do this..

If anyone has any idea what I am talking about as I know it sounds a little confusing please help

the Yamaha has many inputs outputs on the back and I have tried all different ways to connect including using the internal external switch on the front and as said the 2channel and 6 channel button.

Also the sound card has a program which comes on the install cd for the motherboard creative console

as stated thankyou for any help and if im wasting my time please say
thanks.

I've uploaded the newest driver for the motherboards integrated sound chip (VIA VT1828S). It solved the problem of non -working speakers, and yesterday the sound was also good. Thats not much detail to go by.

Double check, physical connections as well as driver settings. With creative cards you will have to use the CMSS feature to artifically expand stereo sound even if in the windows control panel you have a 4 speaker setup selected.

So I have a Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE.

This has 3 outputs that go to my Logitech 5.1 surround speakers.

Even with this setup, I never view anything with surround sound, and would like to somehow emulate it from everything, including audio, local videos, youtube, etc.

Creative has a complicated program to deal with all of this, and I have it to work a little, but not completely.
Isnt there a program that I can run in my tray or something that actively converts everything to 5.1?

So far I have winamp to work well, but I have the 5.1 surround edition.

Answer:surround sound

Might sound stupid, but have you used the correct soundcard socket for your speakers' feed? Some cards have several jackplug sockets. It could also be that your bass speaker (i.e. sub woofer) requires a separate power supply.Other possibilities include inadvertently muting one or more of the line outputs in the volume mixer, not turning the mixer's sliders to maximum output or using the mute facility in, say, Windows Media Player.

I'm trying to get my PC to work with my 5.1 surround receiver.

I'm using an optical out through the digital port on the sound card( Creative Sound Blaster Audigy SE 5.1 ).

It's throwing me because it works in the config menu when I test the Dolby and DTS sound settings. I get sound from all five speakers and the woofer during the tests, but when I set speaker configuration in the sound manager to 5.1, from 2, I only get sound from the front left and right speakers; The rest of the speakers do not respond.

I can't get 5.1 sound out of any of any games that I've tried nor does it play music from those speakers.

If you guys could help me out with this I'd appreciate it.

Question: Stereo to Surround

Hi,

I have been using XP for ages so I never run Vista. So I got a nasty suprise when I installed Windows 7. I always played my music with WMP, and in XP WMP automaticly mixes a stereo sound to all boxes in my 5.1 setup which is great. In W7 this isn't the case it just uses the front left an front right speaker. So I tried the Speaker Fill option which worked partially I got sound from all speakers except my subwoofer. Which results in a pretty crappy sound. Does anybody know an other media player which mixes a stereo sound to surround or does anybody have a trick to make it work in WMP?

i downloaded a surround test file to hear the surround but the rear speakers and subwoofer are not working.
In the software testing sound everything works the way it should be. Just like the internal test sound of the set i bought.
I need 5.1 video's to work as well. why are these not working, but the testing itself is working?

Question: No Surround Sound

I think the problem started after i upgraded the realtek drivers but i cant be sure. The surround sound i have on my system just stopped working. Currently, i only have the stereo sound. Also my microphone isnt working at all.

Computer Model: MSI GT60 2OC
Windows 8.1
8gb ram
Intel i7
480ssd and 1tb hdd
Latest realtek hd audio driver

I have tried reinstalling my whole system to fix it but it still didnt work.

Answer:No Surround Sound

If reinstalling the "whole system" did not fix it, I would suspect something other than the Realtek drivers.

What speaker system do you have? 2.1, 5.1 or 7.1? Is the speaker type set correctly in the Sound Panel, Playback section for the type of speaker system you have?

In the Sound Panel/Recording section, Stereo Mix should be set as default recording device.

Question: 5.1 Surround sound

Just wondering with widnows 7 if it is capable of outputting 5.1 surround sound? I have noticed when upgraded from xp sound does not come out of every speaker connected?

Answer:5.1 Surround sound

Yup, it works fine. If you use onboard- and it will probably be realtek if it is- there should be an icon in the lower right hand of the task bar, looks like a speaker. right click and choose sound manager- it should show what you have there.
Also try adjusting in the sound applet. Control panel/ sound- click on the speaker setup, go to configure (bottom right) and again choose the speaker setup. Should work ok then

I have my PC hooked up through an HDMI outlet to a Sony A/V Receiver with 5.1 surround sound. Last week, I was able to set the audio under playback devices to 5.1 surround sound under the Sony AV amp, and it worked PERFECTLY. But now, it only has stereo available. Anyone know why the surround sound option isn't showing up all of a sudden? All my speakers are hooked up and working.

The only thing I've recently done different to my computer was re-install a nvidia driver as there was a graphic adapter update that tried to push through Windows Updates that failed and froze up my computer, thusly making me go back to Nvidia's site to get the driver. Any help is much appreciated.

Answer:Can't set 5.1 surround sound. Please help

The HDMI audio drivers are part of the video driver package. As you upgraded/changed the nVidia (video ?) drivers, that is likely the cause. Try reinstalling/upgrading/downgrading the nVidia drivers (again).

Hi guys.

Was hoping someone more capable could help me figure out how to get 5.1 surround sound on my PC.

My setup is: I have an optical cord going from the back of my PC to my Amp. I don't have a separate sound card. I think its just part of my motherboard.

I get surround sound on my PS3/4 no problems, but the most I can get on PC is 2.1. Tried playing around with all the sound settings and the Realtek HD audio manager, but nothing works. I can't even set it to 5,1 in the audio manager.

In the PC I have:

Intel Core i7 2600K Processor LGA1155 3.4GHz CPU
Asus P8Z68-V PRO Socket 1155 Intel Z68 Chipset
eVGA GTX580 1536MB SuperClocked 797Mhz PCIE
Thanks.

5.1 comes through coaxial, fiberoptic or hdmi.
Why didn`t you get a Sony Blueray player ?

Don`t know of any dvd player that uses usb for video transmission.
Why aren`t you using the home theater for 5.1 ?

Question: 5.1 Surround issue

I own a logitech 5.1 surround setup.It...kind of works. It has worked fully in the past, but very recently (I cant think of anything that may change the situation), the forward two speakers and the rear two speakers stopped putting out...loud sound. But only under certain circumstances. When I listen to music, or watch a movie, all of the speakers play. But when I do something like play a video game, where the sound is dynamic in relation to the speakers, the sound comes out as a very low, almost not audible sound. Not good for a gamer such as myself. Also, I am using AC97 software, and there is a test on there that test each speaker to see if it works. All of them work normally, according to the test. But there is also another test, in which a bee flies around an animation of the user, and the bee's buzzing sound is supposed to correlate on the speakers like it is in relation to the user on the screen. Here, all you can hear from my satellite speakers is a very low buzzing sound, however, when the bee is positioned in front of the user on the screen, my center speaker (also positioned in front of the user) works fine, put out a nice, loud, annoying, bee buzzing sound. Also the subwoofer works fully...no surprise, seeing as how the cables are grouped as such: center-sub, front-left-front-right, rear-left-rear-right.Yes, it is set to 5.1 both on the ac97 audio driver thing and on the windows control panel. The volume for all speakers works fine. All the wires are tightened.... Read more

Using AC 97 '(Quickly scanned your post and this seemed to be the case)2. Or you're using the wrong software. It's number 1. Get a Creative soundcard that costs >40 dollars and install their (latest) drivers.Surround sound will only work with DVD's and video games, music and normal movies never have surround sound simply because they miss the files to tell the PC its surround, but with Creative drivers you can emulate surround sound.

Well, hello. I am sure that you have all heard that before.

In Windows XP I had no problems listing to 5.1 surround sounds, from mp3 files, games, videos, browser, etc.

I moved to vista, I can only hear sounds from my two front speakers (stereo).
I didn?t like that fact. So I decided to find the problem. Well after few hours I found that I don?t have the rights drivers, so after few other minutes I found the drivers and installed them. I expected for my rear speakers to work. But they didn?t. So I resumed my search. I came across a program by the name SRS Audio sandbox. Which someone told that it will enable surround in vista. After I downloaded it and installed it, it did enabled surround. But the program isn?t for free.

Now I am stuck with this situation:

Drivers don?t help. The audio sandbox works only for 8 days. And when I test the speakers in the speakers? configuration menu it shows it works.
When I play audio it plays them only in stereo, when I play games the same. Except black and white 2, I hear sound from the rear speakers in that game. So I am asking what to do, I am stuck with this situation for more than 2 weeks now.

My sound card is SoundMAX AD1800 if I?m not mistaken. I'm using Vista Ultimate x64

P.S I found that a lot of people having this problem but not a solid solution.

Answer:5.1 surround problems.

That is because Vista doesn't support multi speaker configuration...it converts any source (4.1,5.1,6.1,7.1) in STEREO, that's why you only hear sounds coming from the two front speakers. There's a project from creative labs called "Alchemy" which after installed in vista allows for 5.1 sound reproduction, but I think it only works on creative cards....you might wanna take a look at their website for more info.

According to microsoft and nokia website (I can't post link because I have less than 10 posts; silly rule), I can find the surround sound setting somewhere in the video setting section. But when I tried to do so, all I found is framing grid, resolution, audio bass filter, directional stereo and use default setting.
Where is the option to switch surround sound on/off?
Thanks.

I've been hearing only the front speakers for some time. The back speakers work, to be sure, but I figured that ordinary mp3's were incapable of surround sound as they weren't created for surround. So, I was content to have only the front three speakers playing unless I was in a game like Knights of the Old Republic. However, on one of those rare moments I got out of my computer chair (I had to clean my room), I had music going on, a mp3 from edgen.com. I bent down next to my rear speaker, and lo and behold... sound!I reset the balance to favor the back and side. All speakers were set to 100%, but I took the front left, right, and center down to 50%. Then I turned it up. Now, I have sound out of all my speakers. I am of the mindset that good music is meant not to be heard, but experienced, so this is good news for me -- very good news. However, I have to ask: What makes a sound "surround sound", then, if all my sounds can be heard out of all 8 speakers?

Answer:Surround Sound and me

Have you set Windows to know that you have this many speakers? If you don't configure the settings, don't expect it to work properly.Flame

Question: Surround sound

I just got a set of Logitech Z-5500 speakers and connected them to my Asus P5E's onboard SoundMAX HD audio via the coaxial S/PDIF. I'm running the latest drivers from the Asus website.

THE PROBLEM: the output is entirely 2.1 channel in WinXP64, when it should be 5.1. I cannot coax even a whisper from the rear speakers, or from the center, or from direct-to-woofer output.

The surround speakers test just fine in the speaker-controller's own built-in test mode, and in Vista, but not in XP. In the SoundMAX control panel, I have set my configuration to Dolby Digital 5.1, but when I perform the channel test, the only sound comes from the front L&R speakers and from the subwoofer.

The LCD screen on the speakers' control center displays the text "No Digital Data" whenever no sound is being output to it, and this is precisely what it does when it ought to be playing through the rear speakers.

I'm almost certain it's some bit of configuration I've neglected to do, somewhere deep in the bowels of SoundMAX or in Windows. I need to get 5.1 working.

Please help, for to assist the needy is divinity. And divinity is sexy.

Answer:Surround sound

PROGRESS!

For a moment I thought I had fixed, but alas, 'twas not so.

I did find that VLC will not properly play multichannel audio on my computer. I played a DVD with Zoom player and the rear channels worked just fine.

Problems still persist: When I set my speaker configuration to 5.1 in the SoundMAX control panel and cycle the test noise to each speaker, the center and rear left and right channel remain silent. I have a similar problem in games (e.g. in Oblivion, when something is behind me I cannot hear it at all).

SOMEONE has a big enough brain to help me. Please, any ideas at all are welcome!

Hey everyone!

Been beating my head against a wall all day today trying to figure this out..

I have a Yamaha RX-V463 receiver
Definitive Technology PC-600 Speakers
and my motherboard has SPDIF out..

Everything is hooked up properly but I only have options for 2 channel under the sound settings. I downloaded AC3Filter and messed around with that as well... still it only plays all 5.1 speakers when I select "5 channel stereo" on my receiver. I want true surround for games.. All my games have an option for 5.1 yet nothing is coming out of the rear speakers or center when the receiver is set to 5.1

Any advice?

Thanks!

Answer:5.1 Surround with SPIDF

I was wondering what the best PC 5.1 surround system is? I made a post earlier about which I should upgrade to - speakers or a vid. card, so I'm doing research on the two topics. Everything I've read points to the Logitech Z-680 speakers (I'd upgrade to the Creative Megaworks 6.1, but there isn't a whole lot of stuff that supports 6. 1 speakers, and I heard that some games that don't sound funny - so I figure why waste the extra money). Is this assumption correct?

Answer:Best PC 5.1 surround system under $400?

I suppose your assumption may be correct if talking about older games, but recently released games usually support 5.1, 6.1 and even up to 7.1!

But if you are looking for 5.1 speakers, I would recommend Altec Lansing 5100's, which are what I have, they are not incredible powerful, but you don't need 600W speakers in a small room like my own; it depends on the size of your room, no need to get powerful speakers if less powerful ones will sound just as good .

Although, for another recommendation, I would say that Cambridge Soundworks make some very good speakers, better than Creative in my opinion. In fact, I think Creative owns them, either way; their product quality is a lot better.

I have Creative Labs Sound Blaster 5.1 sound card, and an Altec Lansing 5.1 speaker system. I cannot get the center channel to out put any sound. I have tried everything on the creative's website, and spent 40 minutes long distance talking to their tech support. The tech guy, said both the speaker and card were bad, and to take them both back. So, last night I did just that. But, I still have the same problem. I tried all the settings, and still cannot get the center cnannel to out put sound. The other speakers work fine, and really sound great. But I want the center channel to work too.

Under Creative Miss.

Gameport joystick, I get this message,

Under Sound Video game controllers I get this message,

NTKERN.VXD and MMDEVLDR.VXD device loader for this device, could not load the drivers for this device.

Everything else is fine.

I already did everything that was on the Creative website too. CMSS was the first thing I did. And the center channel speaker does work, I switch the it from 5.1 to 4 speaker setup on the sub-woofer, and sound came out of all channels
