So as the title says, I randomly crash after on hour or so of uptime when I have both sticks of RAM in. Once it crashes, it will restart and crash again until I turn it off.

Things I have done
-Ran memtest86 with both sticks and got over a million errors before the test crashed on pass 4/4.
-Ran memtest with each individual stick and they both passed with 0 errors.
-Moved both sticks to the secondary slots of my mobo but still crashed.
-Made sure the mobo slots were working by switching a single stick around and running memtest.
-Updated bios and mobo chipset through asus website.
-Updated gpu drivers through geforce experience.
-Made sure every other driver was up to date through the device manager.
-Also tried setting up an xmp profile that made the RAM run at its timings and speed.
-Tried reinstalling windows

In this screenshot of bluescreenviewer, all crashes are with 2 sticks of ram except for the system service exception errors and the blank one before it that occurred on 3/10/2017. Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

Preferred Solution: Randomly crash with 2 sticks of RAM but run fine with 1 stick.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey,

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

Answer:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

I have a brand new medion akoya desktop - it came with 4GB ram in two sticks of 2Gb. Problem is the computer is very unstable with both sticks in but runs fine with 1 stick (either). Problems will occur within minutes of opening a browser or lots of windows ending in BSOD.

The bios is up to date but allows no voltage manipulation. I have also inserted two other memory sticks with the same results so the memory is fine.

any ideas?

Technically it should work. Make sure you purchase ram with the same speed/timings though.

Hello, My PC had crashed lately and was unable to turn it on(made some beeps)after some online research I found out it was one of my RAM sticks was burnt and after removing it and a fresh Win7 install, everything is working now.
Now I only have one stick of 2GB RAM and with Win7 I don't get the best performance...
I have a spare PC(with the same motherboard), that's not working properly
but I think has good RAM sticks(two 2 GBs), I want to add these RAM sticks to my PC and replace the one I got left(I know it's best to install pairs of same type RAMs and not to mix them).
My questions are:

If I take these RAMs can it damage my PC because they have some stored data/settings from the spare PC?

(Although I know RAMs are not like hard-drives - that store data after shut-down PC)

Can I just remove my old RAM stick and install the spare RAMs?

(using an online guide to install the RAMS from the spare PC, as if they were new)

Answer:Replacing RAM stick with used sticks

providing the Ram you have is compatible with the new machine then you can swap it out

I have 1Gb of ram in the form of 2 sticks of 512Mb.

I'd like to add another gig, was wondering if I can add a 1Gb stick or do I need to go with 2x512.

I have full spec info on my existing ram sticks in-hand, so could match timing and whatnot.

I read a review on NewEgg (exact same brand/specs as 512 sticks I'm already using) where purchaser said these were "double-sided" and using 4x512 slowed the speed from spec 400MHz to 333MHz. Post said "don't be a dummy like me, just get 2x1Gb instead."

I didn't really understand the part about "double-sided", but did get the "slower" part LOL.

Does this make sense to anyone? i.e. 4x512Mb would be slower than expected?

If the answer to my original question is No, you can't use a 1Gb stick with 2x512Mb sticks, would you then recommend discarding the 512s and just getting 2x1Gb as suggested? (would rather not due to financial constraints)

Thx smart people!

Answer:Solved: Adding ram; can add 1Gb stick if using 2x512 sticks?

yes you can add i gig if you are using windows xp.. i just added a 1 gig along side 256 ddr pc2100.no problem for me.

Hi all,

I have this question and I hope you all can give me your opinions.

For a Pentium 3 pc, since the mobo does not support dual channel, does it really matter whether the memory is made up of 1 stick of 512MB or 2 sticks of 256MB SDRAM?

Will there actually be any noticeable speed difference or it does not matter at all?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:SDRAM - 512MBx1 stick or 256MBx2 sticks better?

personally i would go 2x256 because its almost like raid 0. information can be written to each stick of ram at the same time so its faster but u wont see that much of a difference.

Hi have a PB SW51 laptop, AMD Turion 64, 2gb DDR2 ram.

It has been running windows 7 32bit fine for over a year now.

Foolishly I decided to give Win 7 64bit a try.

The installation went like clockwork until final reboot to start windows (after installation complete)

The splash screen displays, then freezes, then I get BSOD telling me my BIOS isn't ACPI compliant.

After Googling for info I read about removing a stick of ram, which I did, and hey presto it boots with no problems.

I've run memtest86 for 3 passes on each stick of ram with no errors.

I know that Win7 64bit is best with 4gb of ram but thought I'd give it a try anyway.

Now I really wish I hadn't as I decided to reinstall the 32bit edition and am now getting the same error
with that.

please help.

Don't know why I'm getting this error now. As when I first got the laptop, over a year ago, I installed Win7 32bit without problems and it ran sweet as a nut.

Answer:Win 7 laptop freezes on boot with 2 sticks of ram, but fine with 1

Did you try with each stick of ram individually? If it works with one and not the other, replace the defective one.

I got a system in recently with a weird issue. It would reset after a few minutes, and then shorter and shorter intervals on restart continually. I tested for all the normal stuff (power supply, temperature, unplugged the video card) and checked the error logs but only the unexpected restarts were listed, with no suspicious events around them.

If I removed a memory stick it ran fine though. I thought it was a bad stick but I ran memtest on both sticks without errors for a few passes. Immediately though if I plug in both sticks the system won't stay on for more than a minute or two.

I adjusted just about every bios setting concerning memory without change, and tried loading bios failsafe defaults.

Anyways I'm considering between just telling the owner that the system can only support one ram stick now, likely due to some motherboard fault, or trying to do a bios update though I'm a bit hesitant that if there are issues with the motherboard maybe I should just leave the bios version alone.

I'd be interested in hearing others takes on the issue.

CPU- AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ 2.40GHZ
Motherboard- amd690gm-m2
RAM- CORSAIR CM2X1024- 6400C4 800 MHZ 4-4-4-12

Answer:System restarts with two memory sticks, fine with one

Often a faulty memory stick will work by itself, but then fail once running in duel channel.

Unfortunately this is very difficult to test with two sticks, so there's no guarantee that this is the issue. You may just have to buy some new memory.

The attached memdumps range from september to december, please give them all a look-over. I generally do not get a BSOD with this problem, I'd say it happens about 1 to every 10 times I get a freeze which the computer freezes and I cannot do anything but restart. To avoid this problem, I have found that running only 1 stick of 2gb ram I will have zero noticible issues.. I ran it this way for a month without a single freeze or bsod. the problem is I don't want to be only running 2gb for the rest of the life of this brand new x64 system. I'd like to have 8gb ram at some point.

? I have recently updated to the newest available bios, didn't fix the problem.
? Have also run memtest up to 20 passes, and with no errors.
? Have tried setting voltage in bios to specified 1.5v with no luck.

Hello,

Have you tried running Memtest86 on the stick of RAM you took out?

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Also, uninstall Daemon Tools, as it is using SPTD. When that is done, remove SPTD with this tool: http://www.duplexsecure.com/download...t-v174-x64.exe

Hey guys,

I got a "Kingston ValueRAM 2GB DDR2 SDRAM Memory Module - 2GB (1 x 2GB) - 800MHz DDR2-800/PC2-6400 - Non-ECC - DDR2 SDRAM - 240-pin DIMM" (KVR800D2N6/2G)

I thought it would be a regular 240pin memory, but the division is slightly offset. Is there anyway to fit it in or is this a manufacture's fault?

Here's a link to my motherboard http://usa.asus.com/products.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=1402&l1=3&l2=15&l3=368

Would I be able to say I got the wrong product than advertised? I got it from here and the picture looks like a normal one, lol

What a bummer, trying to buy a filler item

Thanks for any advice,

Dami

Answer:Re: Memory stick does not fit at the division, but length of the sticks are identical

Looking at the specs of your board, you need DDR RAM and not DDR2, that's why it's different. Buying DDR RAM will give you sticker shock when compared to DDR2. Take it back man.

Hello everyone, I have been getting BSODs for awhile now unfortunately. At first I thought it was my power supply not supplying enough power anymore because it's 2+ years old and has been through many builds.

Well, I ran Memtest last night just to be sure, and after waking up 8 hours later, Memtest had reported over 450+ errors, this was with BOTH ram sticks inserted / being tested.

My timings were set as they should be (9-9-9-24-2t command rate and 1.5v DRAM voltage).

Now onto my question:

I'm currently testing 1 stick at a time to see if the errors pop up on one stick only. Now, in the BIOS, I have the timings set to 9-9-9-24-2t command rate, 1.5v DRAM voltage, but in Memtest it says:

CAS: 6-6-6-20 / Single Channel (when testing one stick only)

Are those timings normal / what they should be for testing one stick? Or is there something wrong?

Answer:450+ errors in Memtest with both sticks, now running 1 stick, question

Try resetting the BIOS options for CPU and RAM back to normal and try again. This could be the problem to begin with (overclocking). If you get a BSOD while overclocking, reset the BIOS back to normal.

I want to upgrade my ram and im either going to buy 2x2gb sticks or 1x2gb stick depending on what it was shipped with. Does anyone know? Answer:Lenovo T61 2gb, Factory shipped with 1x2gb stick or 2x1gb sticks?

I had a T61 with 2Gb (factory installed 1+1), which I recently upgraded with a 2Gb module. I replaced the first 1Gb module installed. The second or remaining module I left as 1Gb since I don't anticipate using a 64 bit OS anytime. 40Y7735 2GB PC2 5300 DDR2 SDRAM   (Mfg part #: 40Y7735)  I too have Vista 32, which will only recognize a total of 3Gb of installed RAM.  You can always try to sell the spare 1Gb module on eBay...  BTW...there has been no noticable performance increase of my T61 since this upgrade.  It's still the same dog it's always been, and quite frankly the worst experience I've had with any of the past 5 thinkpads I've owned. Cheers, Mark

I just opened a brand new T470s, running Windows 10 1709 x64 Pro. I noticed after Windows did some updates that the laptop was stuck on the Lenovo logo with the message "To interrupt normal startup, press Enter". I waited about 15 minutes, but there was no change.  I pressed Enter, but this did nothing.  I then powered the laptop off and then back on, and it displayed this message but then quickly moved past it to the rotating dots, configured Windows updates, and then successfully booted into Windows.I've done some testing, and what I've discovered is that the machine does not reboot successfully.  If some software wants me to reboot or I tell Windows to reboot, I get the behavior where it sticks on the boot screen with the Lenovo logo and that message about pressing Enter to interrupt the normal boot process.  If I shut down Windows and power it back on (or I power it off on that boot message screen and power it back on), it starts normally. I tried updating the UEFI and also Windows, but this hasn't solved the issue. Any suggestions or assistance is welcome!

I have a problem i have been trying to get my head around for about a week I am googled out.

Last week i had 2 PCs that would start up in safe mode constantly So i reimaged them.

The first problem i noticed was that the icons were missing and when you moved the mouse and the graphics would dissappear, this happened after updating so no programs were on the system at this stage, however i was running updates.

The next problem was the error "A problem is preventing windows from accurately checking the license for the computer. Error code 0x80070002.

I would click ok and it would go back to the logon screen then i would get the error there is not enough resources to load the profile the countdown would start then it would go back to the logon screen.

If i took out a stick of ram (512) the system would work fine put two in and the system went nuts. I have run a check on the ram its good.

System event ID errors are

Event 59 Side by side error
C:\windows\system32\mobsync.exe

I have downloaded NET Framework
2.0 Software Development Kit (SDK) (x86) and run this

I have downloaded VC80

I have run a full update and that did nothing.

Now when i put 2 sticks in it just restarts.

At the moment i am running a repair install

If anyone has seen this before assistance would be good.

The systems are XP SP3 attached to a 2003 SP1 server Domain

Answer:2 sticks of ram cause system to crash

Hi

1. This could be your Power Supply - Have you checked your voltages and also the temperatures.

2. It could be the motherboard's one memory slot? Does this happen whenever you put the 2nd memory module in a specific slot? or does the PC work with one module in any slot?

3. Is the VGA onboard? If it is, it would be sharing your memory and that could be a reason why your graphics are getting messed up.

4. Did you test the memory with Memtest?

Problem:
I created a backup file from user data of dutch Tele Banking Software (for the dutch: Rabo Telebankieren) on a USB stick. Before creating and saving the file, all data on the stick had to be erased (which was no problem, there was almost nothing on it). After creating the file I put the stick in my new pc (did it before without trouble. Win xp too.) and it instantly crashed. Windows showed the famous blue screen with some crash information...
When I put the stick back in the other computer, the one I created the file on, there were no problems.

In my opinion the backup software of the telebanking software screwed something up on the stick, but I can't find out what it is. How can I fix this problem? I'd like to be able to use this USB stick on more than one computer...

Thanks in advance for your reply and help!!!

Question: USB stick crash

Don't know if anyone else has this problem, but I get a Windows Explorer crash when I plug a USB memory stick in to any of the USB ports on my PC. It doesn't happen immediately and I have been able to open files, but then it all goes pear shaped and stops functioning. At which point W.E. gives up and wont recognise the existence of the stick. If I try and shut down, it refuses to let me. Having seen a similar problem reported with Vista, I reformatted one of my sticks to NTFS. This worked, so is the problem with the FAT file system and Win 7?

I am running Win 7x64 on AMD Athlon64 Dual Core 6400+ with 4Gb Ram

Hugh

Answer:USB stick crash

I have had no problems with my FAT32 stick. Did you try reformatting with FAT after formatting with NTFS? If not, then there is a possibility that the stick just had a bad format, and reformatting it fixed it.

Hi all, I've had this problem for some months now, and I can't seem to fix it despite my best efforts. When I try and write a dvd-r the computer freezes solid, and I have to restart. I've tried different software, a different drive, and changing the ram. I've also reinstalled a hard disk image to where everything was working - all to no avail. By chance I found out this weekend though that it will write to dvd+r disks with no problem (I've never used them before). Oh yes, if I use my video editing software to write my video to dvd-r that appears to be working okay. I hoped somebody somewhere might be able to glean something from the disparity between dvd+r and dvd-r disks- its certainly got me beat. I'm using xp home edition, service pack 3, the drive is an LG supermulti, I have 4 GBs of ram fitted and its an AMD Phenom II 3.4 quad core cpu. Thanks for any help.

Answer:DVD-R now crash the pc but DVD+R fine!

Hi and welcome to TSF what did you use to write to the dvd-r

Hello there,

I have been having problems with keyboards on my new Windows 8.1 build. I have been able to replicate this using 2 different USB keyboards (Logitech G15 and Razer BlackWidow).

Every once in a while when I am typing, a key will get "stuck" and type out several times on the screen. So for example, if I was typing the word update, it might look like this.

updattttttttttttttttttttttte

At first I thought it was the keyboard, but since I have switched and just had it happen on the new keyboard.

I have switched USB ports on my mobo and that didnt seem to help it.

I am using the default Windows drivers as well for the keyboard.

Any ideas?

Hi, thank you in advance for your help

I have just bought a new 512 MB RAM stick for. The manufacturer is Kingston, model is KTM0055/512.

This is PC133 SDRAM.

My motherboard is a Asus CUV4X. It has 3 RAM slots. Each RAM slot can contain 512 MB max RAM. One slot has 256 MB, one slot has 256 MB, and the new slot contains 512 MB.

Here are the specs of the motherboard concerning the RAM:

DIMM
3.3V
168-pin
Unbuffered

Now the stick I bought is compatible with these standards.

When I put the new stick in the machine, the memory stick reads the correct amount of RAM (1024 MB = 256 + 256 + the new 512)

The BIOS reads "Installed Memory 1024 MB".

But when I try to start Windows, it impossible, even in Safe Mode, it just reboots

What can I do ?

Answer:New RAM stick = system crash

3 sticks have to match each other in number

HelloI write here because I can not contact support by email, i have never confirmation My problème :After the 1511 windows 10 upgrade, the stick does not start correctly.I have only a black screen (after Lenovo screen) or the troubleshooting screen. I cant restore or reset the system (error) orrestore my W8.1 system image backup: w10 tells me that he does not format hdd on which troubleshooting software is running & I must boot from an ext hdd. Problem: I can not boot from a USB drive or usb cdromWhat is the procedure to boot on usb? I only have the choice of booting from the internal disk. I have found nothing in the bios (Bios O27KT07A). Thank you for your help Sorry for my english i am french.

Answer:Lenovo ideacentre Stick 300 crash

https://communities.intel.com/thread/93643 Read the whole thread, and you'll understand what's happening. Turning off write cache for the internal SSD is the key. You can boot from a USB stick formatted with the pre-autumn update build W10 install package from Microsoft. The link to MS's original download page is still live, I found it through searching I seem to remember. Some sticks work, some do not. This is true of all PCs due to weird spec changes that happened. If the install program detects the stick, it will work. After installing, turn off write cache to the SSD before updating to the latest version of Windows 10. Problem solved. Do NOT turn write cache back on for the SSD or your system will become unstable.

Hi everyone,

Hoping to have some assistance on this issue that I have been facing for quite some time.

Everyday when I bootup my computer and start using it for a while, it will randomly freeze and produce a "jammed" sound for a few seconds before restarting and the weird thing is after the second bootup, I can use the computer for hours and the issue won't occur until the next day when I power on my computer again. I have not seen any BSOD till date when this issue occurs.

Initially I suspected it was due to a fault processor so I had it RMA-ed but a brand new chip was sent back to me and placed in the computer, the same issue occurs. I have also tried to format my C drive but to no avail as well.

The issue will still occur if I leave the computer unused upon first bootup, just a matter of how long upon bootup.

Upon second bootup, windows will prompt me that it has recovered from an unexpected shutdown.

I've had a previous problem http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/141283/computer-crashes-after-reviving-from-standby-or-hibernate/ (still not fixed)This is a brand new computer with 2gb RAM, no new software or hardware, i have run virusscans and chkdsk. But just today, in the middle of whatever, the computer just randomly shut off without warning. I pushed the power button, and it booted up, but in the middle of the process, the welcome screen, it randomly restarted without warning! I turned on the computer again and it's working just fine. What could be wrong?

Several times recently I have powered up my PC from cold and it has failed to post, i.e. no BIOS. The fans all come on (PSU, CPU, graphics & case) and the HD light comes on, and I get a single beep. Then nothing more. After a while the HD light goes off, sometimes the CD drive lights come on, and stay on. I then turn the power off fully and leave it 10 secs or a minute and try again. After several attempts I usually give up, and when I try again maybe 10 mins or an hour later, it may, or may not fire up. When it has booted(as it just has), everything seems absolutely fine. Its a MESH built, fairly high spec 2 yr old with XPSP2, 2Gb ram, 550W PSU, 8800gt, 4800+cpu. Clearly something is wrong/on its way out, but what to check first to stop this seemingly random, intermittent and highly irritating problem? I'm sure one day it'll stop completely, but until it does I can't really send it back to MESH, as sods law dictates it will work perfectly for them. Everything seems to be properly connected/seated, and the PSU happily runs the graphics at full load etc when the PC is running, so I don't think its that. Could the BIOS be corrupted - but then why would it work sometimes and not others? Could it be RAM related? The problem has only started in the last couple of weeks. A new HD, and new graphics card were installed couple of weeks before the problem started (with no immediate problems), so that may, or may not have something to do with it.

Answer:randomly wont boot, no bios, then fine!

I have this old 300-01IBY Stick from Lenovo I bought a few years ago... I am using the adapter that came with it (2A) yet it seems to be randomly shutting off in the middle of playing a video mostly if it's high def YouTube or anything very graphical Kodi for example movies it will shut down. It is connected to my 50 inch television. Anyone else experiencing this? Is it just not powerful enough to handle those sorts of tasks? I really don't think it's down to the adapter or cable since I am using the provided one that came with it. Also it's currently running Windows 10.

I had this memory stick for a while, and its been working fine. It has a lot of my important college work on it too. Just a few days ago it randomly stopped working. I've tried it on all computers I can and none of them recognised it, and it didn't pop up in 'My Computer'.
The best reaction I got was on this laptop, where it said it was processing, but then said that I did not have a suitable driver software or something like that. Please help, I have a lot of work on it .

Answer:7dayshop USB memory stick randomly stopped working?

I ordered some computer stuff at 4a.m. and I had a major brainfart when doing so.

I ordered some Crucial ram that came in 2GB sticks, Newegg.com sold is in doubles and triple packs, my thought was well, 6GB is better then 4GB when ordering but after doing so I thought, wait, don't you normally run ram in two's for dual channel?

So tomorrow I have 3, 2GB sticks showing up. Should I order a forth? I mean I KNOW I can run just 3 sticks but that puts is out of dual channel mode, correct? Does it REALLY matter when you get upto 6GB of ram? I mean computers are so quick now days, does it really actually matter?

I have this motherboard:

Newegg.com - ASUS M4A88TD-M/USB3 AM3 AMD 880G HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard

I intend to install Windows 7 Ultimate x64 tomorrow on this new motherboard and a Dual-Core CPU.

Answer:RAM... Two sticks, three sticks, dual channel, triple channels, huh?

Most MB's will let you run the 3 sticks in dual channel mode. One channel will have 4GB and one will have 2GB. Check you MB manual and it should show which slots to use.

Hello,

To provide some background information, I will explain what happened to 'cause' the problem in the first place:
I was on vacation with my parents (it's their computer, by the way) and prior to that we took out all the plugs of the computers just in case. When we came back, all that was done was re-plug the computer, and then we tried booting it. It turned on, but the display didn't work.

After some fooling around, it was identified that RAM was the issue, because when I took out a single stick, it suddenly showed video again. However the next boot it didn't, so I took the other stick and tried it, but it didn't work, so I put it in the other port and then it did work.

Long story short, I have tried both RAM sticks together: doesn't work. Tried them individually, and they both work SOMETIMES. Sometimes one of them works in one port, then it works in the other, then it doesn't and the other stick has to be in one port, then the other. It seems completely random, and I haven't been able to identify any other issue.

I'm not entirely sure if I'm in the right section of the Forums, but since I restarted the PC about a hundred times, it seems like I am.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
~Marty

Edit: Realised I forgot to mention that the motherboard is an ASUS M4N78SE and the RAM are 2x2GB 1066 DDR2 Fatal1ty (OCZ).

Answer:Computer won't boot with 2 sticks RAM, though both sticks and slots work

This is my new system:

Core 2 Duo E6750
Asus P5N-D (nForce 750i)
2X2 GB Kingston KVR800D2N5K2/2G
Asus EN8800GT
WD 250GB SATA II
500W

It works perfectly in Vista x64, however in XP SP2 32-bit, as well as XP SP2 64-bit, the system freezes randomly (often with graphical corruption in the last frame(s)) despite the fact that I've installed the latest BIOS from ASus, latest drivers from Nvidia, and all available XP updates from Microsoft. These freezes started occuring right after I installed Windows XP, without any other drivers or outside programs present.

I should also mention both XP versions run fine (well, they don't lock up) while in safe mode.

Does anybody have any idea what the problem is?

Answer:Vista runs fine, XP freezes (and locks up) randomly

sometimes this problem is due to conflict of drivers(hardware, software)or programms
and rarely to malware
in your case, as you said they work fine in safe mode,
ok, then we can suppose that either program or service would cause this
if that's right, try to disable one after one by doing this:
start ==> run ==>type "msconfig" without quotes
choose (selective startup) option and try to unckeck one by one and restart to see
for now, I have no other solution.....when I get anything new, I'll tell you

are your versions unattended?? I mean aren't they original, downloaded from microsoft or not?
and you are using Professional or Home Edition Version?

SOYO DRAGON BOARD P4VTP
2x512 3200 Corsair RAM
450watt PS

I just recently purchased a SY-P4VTP motherboard a month ago and started getting weird bluescreens right before Windows XP would load with a STOP: (hexadecimal memory location weird number like 8EH00092-0000) . Other times everything would run fine and the compuer would react normally. In minor instances the pc would just restart itself. (saving itself from damage due to a fatal error I am assuming)

At first I thought my power supply might be the cause since I didn't want to believe my new mobo was faulty. I then purchased a 450 watt and to no avail was receiving the same problems. I started leaving my computer on by itself for extended periods of time since it seemed once it worked for over a few hours it would run flawless... the boot/bluescreen problems only seem to occur 5-20minutes after starting her up. I then thought my ram might be faulty so I purchased 2 sticks of 512 3200 corsair a few nights ago now I am still receiving the same problems and I am out of ideas.

I plan on purchasing a new ASUS P4C800E board in the next week or two but would hate to drop 180$ only to find out I'm still having the same problem.

If anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated or even if someone could confirm my motherboard is the most likely problem. Also I am curious if I am harming my ram in anyway with these errors and reboots? I use my computer 5+ hours daily ... Read more

Hey,
My desktop is connected to my router via cable. And it randomly gets disconnected from time to time. I've tried re-installing drivers. I get the red X on my network icon in the taskbar, which usually happens when a cable is unplugged. I fixes it self after a minute or 2, its never longer than 1 minute, usually 10-15 seconds, and it happens ever 10-15 minutes.

My wifi works fine, and I have a vonage box connected to my main router which works fine too. It's just my desktop. I've tried different ports, same problem.

I'm heading home in a few hours and I've picked up a new 5 meter cable to check with.

What else could be the problem if the new cable doesn't fix it.

My network adapter is the on baord one on the Asus Maximus Formula.

Thanks.

Answer:Network randomly disconnecting. Wifi works fine.

Seems to be something wrong within the cable or could be the network card within your pc? Did you try the cable on any other pc or that?

(I apologize if this is a repeat question, I searched the forums for a while but I couldn't find anything that matched the issues I'm having! I'm not entirely sure what to search for...)

My browser (any browser) crashes after running for about 5 to 20 minutes. It doesn't matter what page I'm or what else I have open, even left idle in the background the browser will crash.

Firefox and IE don't give me an error message, only a notification that the program crashed and will now close. Chrome gives me the following under "error signature" when I click on "view technical information about the error report:"

AppName: chrome.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: rdolib.dll
ModVer: 6.0.88.4 Offset: 00003c91

I've run Ad-Aware, MalWareBytes, SymanTec Anti-Virus and SpyBot Search and Destroy on this machine, and they can't find anything anymore.

Before I bite the bullet and reinstall, is there anything else I can try?

So it just happens 100% random out of no where and I get this error:

(note i ripped this image off google but this is the exact thing that happens)
so I found TWO temporary fixes.

One: unplug router / modem for 10 sec and replug

Two: Go to the network settings and disable the ethernet (note I am connected via ethernet cable, 100% wired)
disable it

Enable it BUT i have to enable it about 30 times before it enables.

When it's enabling, it doesn't enable, it shows the message that it's enabling and I refresh the background and it's still disabled. I have to keep enabling until it randomly works (if anyone knows why I have to keep enabling it 30 times for it to actually enable please let me know)
why does my internet randomly stop on my PC? it works fine on other devices while its not working on my PC and it takes forever to enable the ethernet after i disable it.

I had a narrow sign saying on a website saying, I broke the law and unless I pay a certain amount 500.00 by 40 days my computer will crash? I have windows 7, and Norton, I did not click on anything, but logged off immediately , and ran Norton eraser, with no virus found. However I am still worried that in 40 days my computer will crash. I do not know if the intrusion was blocked for sure. Everything is working now perfectly, and there has been no signs of anything in control of windows 7 of my computer. But now am I still in danger of this as maybe a hacker, that could crash my computer in the future? Or not?

I am trying to get my two sticks (2x 2Gb) of Corsair RAM (CM2X2048-6400C5C) to work in my Asus P5Q Deluxe mobo.
Both sticks work perfectly because I have tested them in all slots individually and the computer works flawlessly.
However, the problem that I'm having is when I put both sticks in, be that in A1/B1 or A2/B2.

With both sticks in, the computers powers on, the fans spin up but the computer progresses no further and does not POST - a blank screen.

What could be wrong? Is there a setting to adjust?

Tom.

Answer:Mobo & RAM: two sticks individually - good, two sticks together - bad

The sticks should be in A1/A2 or B1/B2. Try that configuration.

See page 2-11 of your motherboard manual. If you don't have one, go here: http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_775/P5Q_Deluxe/#download

First off, how in the world did my warrenty expire in September 2016 when I bought the thing in January!! I started having issues a week ago with random crashes. I guessed it was from overheating, but it always seamed to run warm. I attempted to reset Windows, because that's the first thing any tech support person will tell you to do; and it never completed the reset process. Why? Probably because it shuts off after a few minutes of being on. As of now, if I try to boot it, the Lenovo splash screen plays, then it shuts off again. If I get any errors (now) it tells me Windows failed to start, and must reboot. But it just turns itself off, instead of rebooting. And the cycle repeats. So, how do I go about opening a Warrenty ticket if you say the item expired long before I even bought the thing from the store?? And when I'm on your website and go to "Correct Warrenty Expiration Issues", I get Error Code: c5cf42042019561e10e66b34f119cbd1???

Running Windows 8.1. Have admittedly modified it quite heavily but perhaps someone could point me to the root of what I have screwed up.

Pretty much, any apps which have the purple wheel splash screen do not load (presumably crash). Normal windows settings work fine. Windows applications and Metro apps works with no hitches (I have none downloaded but default Music, Games all start with no issues).

Much appreciate any suggestions.

Answer:All Metro Settings crash (Acc, Display), Apps work fine.

Modified what? Using what? 3rd party software? Is your copy of windows a registered version? Can you recall when it stopped working properly? Have you tried restoring to an earlier state?

Answer:Why does windows media player crash in ie7, vista, but works fine in firefox???

probably an ActiveX error. Try this:

Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs > Add/Remove Windows Component

uncheck Internet Explorer, then OK to uninstall it.

Reboot, then go to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/default.mspx and install a new copy of Internet Explorer.

It wouldn't hurt to try. I had problems viewing PDF's in my IE browser but it was ok with Firefox and Adobe Reader. Reinstalling IE7 did the trick for me.

As the Title says I have 2-2 gig sticks of memory that are only showing up as 2-1 gig sticks. I have had this problem a while, but it is really aggravating. I overlooked the problem because I was running Win XP x32 and it doesn't allow 4 gigs of memory to be accessed. Plus my mobo (Asus M3A) states that no more than 3 gigs should be used with Win XP x32, but that more than 3 gigs will not be a problem, just not used,
So, I updated to Win 7 x64 to see if the memory would kick in but to no avail. Still only 2 gigs.
I ran the Windows Memory Scan program and have run Memtest which both report no problems.
I also reset BIOS to default values and had already downloaded the latest BIOS from ASUS.
Siw tells me BIOS is seeing some kind of error, I am posting that info here.

So, here's the deal. I recently bought a new XPS 8900.  I have switched out the 1TB HDD for a 500GB SSD.
Now I want to increase the RAM. It came with 8gb (2 x 4gb sticks). To be absolutely sure I got compatible sticks-I bought 2 x 8gb sticks from Dell.  My machine has 4 slots, so I can have 4 sticks...
My Question is: can I use all 4 sticks ( 2 x 4gb and 2 x 8 gb ), or will mixing sizes screw up something?
Thanks, for any advice!

Answer:Dumb Question? OK to mix 4gb RAM sticks with 8 gb Ram sticks?

Yes  Make sure to keep the matching sticks paired in matching slots. or in other words, put the two 4GB sticks in the white slots and the two 8GB sticks in the black slots. ( or vice versa).
You might consider running the built-in memory diagnostics after installing the memory.

Hi and welcome

In looking at these crashes there were four different causes. In one chrome, an other IE, the third your video driver, and the fourth A memory problem.

When there are this many causes it makes me think hardware. I would first look at the memory.
download memtestx86 and run it for 5 passes.

If the memory is clear I would run a system file check to verify and repair system files
type cmd in search>right click and run as admin>sfc /scannow

Let us know the result as you may have to run these again

using windows xp when playing pc games my computer either returns to desktop or restarts itselfhow can i resolve this?

Answer:games crash randomly

Try closing all unnecessary programs running in the background. The first place to look is in the system tray, close everything you don't need to run the game. Make sure you are disconnected from the Net first. This does mean that you will have to log off as the present user and then log back on again (to re-start apps) before you can use the net again.

Since I got my new computer, I've had a problem with it. Randomly it would seem, All of the hardware seems to crash.

I'm not sure if it's just hardware (monitor, mouse, keyboard, speakers, mic), because when I was trying to stream something a while ago (I was watching from my laptop) and it crashed, I could still see the stream working. I couldn't move the mouse or type anything though.

I did find out that the problem will always happen a few minutes after trying to use the Phone feature in Gmail though...Nothing else seems to always trigger it 100% of the time.

If it helps, here's the log.

Hello,

I was wondering if someone could help me with this issue. This is a friends computer that I offered to help fix (thinking it would be an easy solution as they're a bit of a technophobe!) but alas my basic knowledge has failed me

The only symptom I can see is that programs seem to randomly crash at different times (can be as soon as they are opened, can be 20 minutes later). This is happening with Chrome, Google Earth, IE and Explorer (for definite) and possibly others. There is usually no error warning (although on occasion there has been) - mostly the program window just completely disappears all of a sudden. This has caused me to go into at least three separate rage incidents today

I have been googling away all day and have read a few similar sounding problem threads on here but everything I've tried has done absolutely nothing to solve the problem I've run CCleaner, Spybot Search & Destroy and Norton full scan all in Safe Mode - they all pretty much found nothing and solved nothing.

I've posted the Hijack This! and GMER logs below in the hope that someone here can help. If not then I shall be taking my friends computer outside and setting fire to it!

Thank you in advance for any ideas,

Stacy

hi, i have a windows XP SP3, my computer started to reboot randomly, every day or 2, i scanned with Avast and it didnt returned any infection, then with Anti malwarbytes and it also had no infection, so i ran combofix, and it got a few infections, so it started to take care of it, and then it asked to restart, when the system came back, the desktop disappeared the only thing what was on screen was the box from combo fix with a blinking line, was there for about an hour without seeing any results i did a hard reboot, and then i got back to my desktop, but the computer is still crashing.

i inspected the Dump file, and i got IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL and caused by driver tcpip.sys, and i am having 4 files highlighted which are

bckd.sys = K9 Web Protection
ntoskrnl.exe

now my question is, any help on this?

Some times my computer will randomly freeze up and all programs im running will say that they are not responding, i dont know what the problem is.

Music will keep playing if im listening downloads, or files being extracted or things being installed will freeze and once the computer unfreezer (for lack of a better term) the bars will jump to where they wouldve been as if nothing happened and i continue working, it is sort of irritating, im only using about 12% of my cpu at max, on my average day to day use, so if anyone can help me it would be very great.

Answer:Computer will randomly Crash

Suggestions:
Check your Event Viewer for something being reported around the time things freeze.
Check supplier sites to ensure that you have the latest drivers for your Display card, NIC etc.

Answer:BSOD crash hit randomly

These crashes were caused by memory corruption probably a driver.
Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.

* If you are overclocking anything reset to default before running these tests.
In other words STOP!!!

* If you have a Raid update its Driver.

Memtest.

Quote:
*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5-7 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

Any errors are indicative of a memory problem.

If a known good stick fails in a motherboard slot it is probably the slot.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Driver Verifier

Quote:
Using Driver Verifier is an iffy proposition.
Most times it'll crash and it'll tell you what the driver is.
But sometimes it'll crash and won't tell you the driver.
Other times it'll crash before you can log in to Windows.
If you can't get to Safe Mode, then you'll have to resort to offline editing of the registry to disable Driver Verifier.

I'd suggest that you first backup your stuff and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise.

hey guys
so i finally decided to install win7 x86 - everything went well - put all the standard stuff on there etc - i rebooted many times because of installations and updates
on my last reboot it just got stock in the bios screen (verifying dmi pool data..success! etc)
so i rebooted, same thing, took the disc out, same thing - turned off boot devices same thing
tried to use window's useless repair tools (whatever happened to repair install?) which didn't help - so i decided to format and reinstall - then it says it was unable to do that (partition error or something)

the annoying this is...is that this EXACT..i mean EXACT same thing happened when i installed vista sp1 from scratch - this happened - and to fix it i had to leave my pc open overnight with the hard drive cables all unplugged..in the morning with my fingers crossed i tried the installation again - and it worked.

my d: always disappears (single hard disk sata 233gig (250)) - sometimes it'll vanish from my computer and stuff - but this can't be the problem because the d: is a single drive on its own - my c: is a25gig partition from my e: - so it's completely unrelated.

does it matter how i replug the sata cables (2 of them) into the mother board? - they're both being recognised anyway

this is really annoying though - mostly because there isn't really an explanation - and because this random stuff always happens to my pc! - is it my hard drive because that's the only thing that would half- make sense :-/

Answer:installs fine, runs fine, reboots..not fine

Did you delete/recreate the partition? If you haven't then do this first and try re-installing Win 7. I wouldn't recommend removing the watermark as that can have unpredictable results.

Recently my computer (running 8.1 pro) has been "crashing" a fair bit. 4 times in the past 2 weeks.

Details of the crash are as follows.
the screen will go whatever color it chooses, whether it be grey, black, white, or even a light pink (like today)... the entire screen goes that color, the computer is no longer responsive at that point. Shortly after the screen goes whatever color it wants, the audio starts to go out, it makes a crackling sound then stops all together.

Remedies I have tried that did NOT work:
uninstalled graphics driver, shut down, turned on computer, reinstalled driver.
tried unplugging, then plugging the monitor back into the HDMI port, the screen would then turn black (and not display any color at all)
tried unplugging and plugging all USB devices back in while it was in this 'crash state'.

I have scanned my computer inside and out multiple times with multiple anti virus and anti malware programs, none of which found a single thing.
I recently cloned my internal hard drive to a new SSD I bought, however I doubt that is the cause.
Also, I have not had a BSOD for close to 2 years now.
And a last note, event viewer shows no software crashes or anything that would indicate a piece of software, or hardware is on the fritz.
I made this thread because right now, I Just want to know what the hell is going on, that way I can at least budget for whatever piece of hardware might be going to computer heaven.

Hey all.

I am having a problem where my computer or programs will randomly crash without warning.

The only program that will crash on startup everytime is Steam.

The first time this happened, i started with an error message from lenovo about my power application not working. I do not remember the error message exactly, but i have no gotten it in some time. and everything to do with my power seems to be working.

I did not do any drastic changes before these crashes started happening, so i am unsure as to what is wrong.

Figured I would post here to get some advice. I have a gaming PC that I built about 18 months ago that runs like a tank except for this occasional lockup I get. It locks up entirely and then reboots shortly after. It's only been doing this for the past few weeks and I get no BSOD. Today I checked the event viewer and saw that it saved a memory.dmp file with more info but after trying everything I can not get windb to open the dmp file due to symbol errors.

This board has a killer Ethernet adapter with garbage drivers that I think are my issue. The only issues I've had with this system over the past year have all been related to the killer Ethernet drivers. The system hang usually happens when I'm in a download client or leave something downloading for an extended time.

Log file attached. Any help would be awesome Thanks!

Hey well my problem is that my PC likes to crash on a lot of my games, it seems to only happen on the newer games, e.g. Dirt 2, Left for dead 2, Battlefield Bad company 2, GRID. Basically i could be playing said game from 1hour to 7hours and in that time the game will crash, the crash is simply a freeze then the game has stopped responding.
I have done a memory Diagnostic scan and found no problems. I have also brought a new graphics card around 2 weeks ago and still have the random crashes.

Thanks any help is appreciated.

Hi, I'm kind of a newbie to all this computer stuff but I know some basics of computers.

A few months back, my computer won't boot at all, and I had to reformat all of my partitions and do a complete reinstall. After that, my computer keep restarting by itself and sometimes give me the BSoD while using.

By now, I've tried many methods to correct this problem but nothing's work. I've tried booting the computer in safe mode and my computer did not restart by itself. I've also updated my drivers.

I also used IOBit Advanced SystemCare tool's to detect the problem. The other test I did was the Memtest86+ and passed 4 times. The laptop's temperature is between 45-50 C.

Answer:Computer randomly restarts (sometimes crash) while using.

Compared to the folks on this site, I am a total newbie as well. I am curious, what error message are you getting with the BSOD?
My first guess is that you need a new hard drive but I am interested to hear what those much smarter than me have to say.

Thanks any help is appreciated.

I built a new computer about a month ago (my first time building), and everything has been running pretty well except that a few times a day I have programs randomly crash. Firefox crashes the most often, which makes sense, since I use it the most, and initially I thought it was only a Firefox issue like a problem with a plugin or something but I don't think that's the issue anymore since other programs are also crashing. AVG antivirus would give me an error message every time I booted the computer and would crash during scans and sometimes randomly throughout the day, so I uninstalled it and installed NOD32 to see if I would have the same problem. I have only had it for about 24 hours now and it has already crashed once or twice (It automatically restarts so it's really not a problem, but still). AIM 6 also crashes once in a while, along with DVDRebuilder 1.28.2 and Cinema Craft Encoder. Also, about once every day or two my computer seems to restart itself for no reason. It has always happened while I was away from the computer, so I suppose it could just be windows updates, but it seems to be occurring too often for that to be the cause every time.

I have tried using memtest86 to check if it is a problem with the ram and got no errors over 4+ hours and 8+ tests, so it seems that the ram is ok. I also doubt that I have any type of virus that could be causing this since I have run scans with both AVG and NOD32 and everything is now clean. I have updated many d... Read more

Hi Everyone, thank you in advance for any insight. I've been running Windows 10 just fine on a Lenova Thinkpad Edge for about a year (2.4Ghz processor, 4 GB Ram). I recently installed Pro Tools 9 and FL Studio 12. While using Rewire to link both programs, the laptop suddenly started rebooting out of the blue. It happened twice. I was testing FL Studio plug ins when it happened. I ran a test and received this print out of the errors that led to the apparent crash. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?????? Much appreciation.

Hello!

For the last couple of months I've been experiencing BSOD crashes randomly. (or so they seem) I've brought my computer to a professional who ran hardver tests but found nothing. The crashes carried on though. Firstly they occured when I played Dota2 (no other games caused a problem). When I was full of it I tried updating all my drivers manually, as Windows Update couldn't find any updates available. That seemed to "solve" the problem, the BSODs were infrequent, sometimes I haven't had them for weeks. Now as of yesterday I had multiple BSODs when just browsing. Yes, I had many tabs opened in my browser. And when the computer reboots there is often a second crash just after getting the message "Windows has recovered from an unexpected shutdown".Another thing which is happening that Firefox is crashing a lot lately (as of yesterday also) even when I don't have many tabs open just 1 or 2. I tried switching to Chrome after a BSOD and immediately after I opened Chrome (couldn't even load properly) I got BSOD. And this is the point when I came to see your help, I'm totally clueless. My BSODs had all kind of error messages I will list the most frequent ones:

PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA (most frequent),
SPECIAL_POOL_DETECTED_MEMORY_CORRUPTION
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (only got this once, today when opening Chrome)

I've attached the log file as instructed. Please help if you can. Thank you in advance!

Tomi

Hi

I got a L770 in November and it has suffered from random crashes where i get a blue screen.
I manage to read that it is creating a crash data dump which fails,
it does say alot of other stuff but it doesn't stay on long enough for me to read any more.

After the crash data dump fails it then it tries to reboot but is unable to as it cannot find a boot source.
If you turn it off and back on again it starts up fine again and works perfectly until the next crash. has anybody got any idea what it could be as it is really starting to annoy me now?

Thanks
Matt

Answer:Satellite Pro L770 crash randomly with BSOD

Hi,

Blue Screen errors can be caused by anything so we need to know the details of the error.

Can you tell us the STOP code? You should see something like 0x0000004A and a system file name.

. I have 2 pc of Lenovo M93p core i5 and i7. the problematic one is core i7. I used to swap the CPU between 2 pc and the BSOD still occur only on the CPU i7 even with the new swap motherboard. But with CPU core i5 it runs smoothly with any hardware. One time, I received a message BSOD on a "clock interrupt was not received on a secondary processor". Then I configured the BIOS to let the PC runs on a single core and the PC can run smoothly with single core mode. but now I should utilize all resources of the CPU. I configured the CPU to run all of the CPU cores and the problem returned.

Could experts help me out on this issue?

Earlier today I got a google redirect virus but managed to get rid of it. For some reason, my browsers (Google Chrome and Firefox) crash randomly when I open them or sometimes they won't even open. Microsoft Word 2007 also crashes for no reason. Internet Explorer 9 still works though. I have windows 7 64 bit. I use Malwarebytes and Superantispyware. I have done multiple scans with them and nothing shows up. I have also scanned with TDSSkiller, which results in nothing. I use Avira as my antivirus.

Hello! I've been having this problem for about an month and a half now. Here it is.

So, after a few minutes of gaming, usually 3-15 minutes, at any random point in time, the computer will very quickly show green- colored lines across the screen and instantly go to a unicolor screen that's a different color every time the crash happens. I've seen it in bright green, brown, pink, gray, basically any random color. I built my PC around Christmas of '16 and it was working fine until mid January, and I've tested dozens (literally) of possible causes to no success. Here's what I know.

-It's not the graphics drivers: I've replaced them with the ones that my GPU came with on the disc and I have updated them to the newest versions- no difference.

-It's not an internal loose cable (I scanned the whole PC- it's not a hardware contact problem unless it's a PCI-E slot or something that I can't see)

-It's not with one specific game- the only one I've seen that it hasn't happened with is Hearts of Iron IV- which I played for about 8 hours straight.

-Not overheating: I've had HW Monitor in the corner while playing and when the crash happened the CPU was at 42 C. and the GPU was at 61 C.

-Not a loose power cable or HDMI cable- made sure they were secure.

-Not a BAD HDMI cable or power cable- switched both out.

-Not a speaker, keyboard, mouse, headset, ethernet, etc. problem- I've tested it with NOTHIN... Read more

I am not sure why this is happening. I checked my bios settings. Reformatted my system. Did a clean install of XP and still I get random restarts. Since I reformatted I have had 14 crash dumps since May 23rd 009. It was happening before I reformatted as well. Sometimes it happens twice a day. Sometimes it will not happen for a week apart. This leads me to believe it could be hardware, but I can't tell for sure. I always get the same errors in the minidumps, usually it says probably caused by afd.sys or ntoskrnl.exe, and once or twice I saw Ntfs.sys, but usually like I said its the other two. If someone could analyze the dumps for me and help me figure out what is the most likely culprit it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

Hello and thanks in advance.

I randomly get BSOD dumps. Sometimes the blue screen doesn't appear and my system simply freezes for a second or two then immediately shuts down and restarts. This occurs sometimes while I'm working on the system and other times while I'm away and it is idle. I can't say for certain how often the BSOD actually appears because more than 50% of the time it happens when the system is idle and I am away.

Sometimes I can go several days w/o it happening and other times it can happen twice in one day. It is very random.

This has been happening for a couple of months now. It had happened at other times in the past where I was able to get help on here to fix the issue or the issue went away. I have been very busy the past few months and am just now getting a chance to post here.

It happened this afternoon. The system simply clicked off and restarted while I was working. No blue screen.

My DM log is attached. Please let me know what additional information I can provide.

I've just put together a new machine so there's not much software running on it but I'm getting some sort of BSOD/crash at random times. Most of the times it occurs when I'm away from my machine so I won't see the actual error just windows rebooted with a message stating it was shutdown improperly. The few times I've seen it, the message displayed was "IRQL_not_less_or_equal.

I've attached the files stated in the BSOD instructions post.

Answer:BSOD/crash appears to occur randomly, IRQL_not_less_or_equal

Then make a System Restore point (so you can ... Read more

My HP Probook 4320s laptop was purchased in October 2011 - just before I left for an extended volunteering trip in Kenya.

It quickly developed the extremely annoying problem of freezing / crashing. Unfortunately I was in Africa at this point - so just tried to live with it.

Thankfully, my wife has a laptop that we have been using instead, we just haven't been using the HP at all anymore.

I called the company that it was purchased it from, they asked me to do a memory test & hard drive test - they showed no errors.

They then advised me to reinstall Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit (it was preinstalled when purchased).

I reinstalled it, & downloaded all of the drivers from the web (a painfully slow experience on Kenyan internet...!!).

After installing all of them - it's still happening!

I see there are lots of issues with the blue screen, thankfully I have never had that problem, just the freezing.

Sometimes if left for a couple of minutes it will start to work again, sometimes it needs a reset with the power button.

If I was at home in the UK I would insist that it be swapped by the company purchased from, but being over here that isn't an option!

I would apprciate it so much if someone could offer some advice that would actually lead to the problem being solved.

Thank you very much in advance.

p.s. - I'm not extremely computer literate, so please phrase replies as you would to a 5 year old!!!

I was infected with what appeared to be a Redlof.A variant. I was chatting on a forum discussing digital audio, when I got a PM from someone who sent me all kinda of information on the binary format of a PCM wav file. Sure enough, the second I accepted the PM (I always yell at my Mom for this) my secondary Hard Disk unmounted itself and then remounted with a little surprise on it... a desktop.ini folder and a folder.htt folder hidden in the root of the drive, unclearable and linked to a network drive. Also a myspace window popped up with the title "WORM Audio." PCTools removed hidden files inside the folders but couldn't remove the folders themselves. However, my modem light would still blink occasionally for no reason (really quite often, every minute or so) and on startup and shutdown. Being that this is not normal ( I uses WEP encryption on my wireless, so no freeloaders), I then used UBCD4WIN to backup and reformat. Then I reinstalled XP using a full reformat of my system disk. Now when ever I startup windows my modem light flashes once (not normal) and then when I restart the computer hangs for a second and the modem light goes crazy ( I can only assume I am botted). I did get all windows updates, SP3 first, before touching anything else on my system. Answer:Reformat, Clean Instal, SP3 Immediately, IE8 Crash Randomly

Also, when I run malwarebytes to scan, my modem light will blink while its scanning! In fact it blinks everytime I run an .exe, whether it is internet related or not ! This really is not normal! I am not paranoid, I know my computer intimately, and it is not behaving like a fresh install should, and I did this twice. I know I am infected, maybe I should repost with a better title lol...
