I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My PC is fairly new and I'm having problems with slow shutdowns/restarts and slow sleep/wakes. Recently it seems to fail waking altogether and restarts after a while instead. Usually during waking I just have a black screen for a long time before the reset/restart but sometimes I see the Windows log-in screen but it's unresponsive.
The problem predates my CPU undervolting and doesn't seem to change when I switch RAM settings back to Auto instead of XMP (I my RAM necessitates some kind of overclock in order to function at its rated speed).

Can anyone advise how to proceed? Thanks.

Has anyone found a magic keystroke combination for "Sleep" or is there anyway to create one? I know about Win+I then Power then Sleep.

Has anyone found an option to stop scheduled tasks or other triggers that "Wake" your computer from sleep? I find my computer running in the morning after putting it to sleep at the end of the previous evening! I have reviewed all 41 scheduled tasks created by Windows and installed applications and "apps" and found none that have the Wake Computer check box checked. What's annoying is the fact that once woken the computer does not go back to sleep again! I am using the supplied balanced Power plan. Any advice?

KJ

Answer:Windows 8 Sleep, Wake, Restart and Shutdown

I use this approach to the various "power" options. Check your wake on lan settings in Device Manager > for your various network adapters. Also, check wan on lan setting in BIOS or, I suppose, UEFI.

. . . Macrium Reflect "fix boot errors" is saving my A**!
Between updates, on Wake from Sleep, no Wake . . .. requires hard start . . . spinning dots . . . no boot . . . requires my Macrium Reflect intervention disk . . . "fix boot errors" . . . . System then actually does Start . . .
Anyone else . . . ? What is going on?

Hi,

I am new here. Hoping someone can help me out with this issue. I work in IT so am not a complete computer bonehead and am at my wits end with this.

My laptop is about 4 years old, it's a toshiba. For whatever reason, it started taking 5+ minutes to wake up from sleeping. If it sleeps for an hour, it's OK.. but if you leave it sleep all night and try to wake it up in the morning, it's quite cranky. After the 5+ minute wake up, it performs as normal. It was running Windows 7 Home 32 bit.

Troubleshooting steps that I have taken are as follows.

Reinstalled windows. Issue was resolved! but after about 2-3 weeks, issue came back. I thought maybe it was some type of windows update, so I reinstalled windows again and paid closer attention to the updates. Issue presented itself again after 2-3 weeks, and there were no updates immediately done prior to it starting.

I started to think maybe it was something related to my hard drive, so i performed laptop surgery and swapped out my original hard drive with a solid slate drive, and installed windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit (this laptop can support 64 bit so I figured why not upgrade.).

issue again was resolved for a few weeks, and now it's back to taking 5+ minutes to wake up again.

If you're turning the laptop on from scratch, it takes 10-15 seconds tops. if you're restarting, it's 10-15 seconds tops (man, I love SSD...)... if you're waking itup within the hour, its 1-2 seconds. But anything longer then that, 5+ minutes.

It ba... Read more

Windows 7 pro, desktop, 2 internal sata hd

Read most of the many threads on this subject. I have turned off Sleep using Control Panel, Editing the Registry, disabling hybrid computer as described in this forums tutorial.

The Start/Sleep button is not grayed out and still shuts down the computer although the automatic timed sleep mode seems to be eliminated. Moving or clicking the mouse does not wake up the computer as originally. I have to remove the power cord for a few minutes and then press the power button. I think the computer then comes back up w/o the windows sign-on window as if awakening from Sleep. Windows 7 initializtion is very slow.

Problem with Sleep arose after installing an external drive enclosure with a sata hd and using the esata interface which did not work and caused loss of 2nd internal hard drive.

I do not mind the automatic sleep mode if the computer would awaken properly.

Forgot to mention the following: Even though the Sleep recovery does not work, the computer responds to Restart and turn on from power shut down normally in its usual quick fashion.

Hi folks. I'm having a little weird problem. This is a new system and you can see the specs in my sig. Everything is going well, and there are no problems whatsoever, except for a little weird one. Whenever the pc goes to sleep, it will not come back to life normally. I'll just have to restart it. This is what happens exactly:

Note: It doesn't happen if the PC just went to sleep, i.e. it will wake up if for example it went for sleep like a 5 seconds ago.

I come after a long day at work, and the PC will be sleeping. I'll move the mouse and the screen will come back up but only the mouse is responsive. I can only move the mouse cursor....That's all. If I press Ctrl Alt Del to enter task manager, it will bring me that page where I can choose task manager, log off, switch user...etc. And that will be it. I will not be able to do anything after that. The whole PC will freeze(after I click on task manager for example) and i will no longer be able to even move the mouse or hit Ctrl Alt Del combination to get into task manager.

I thought this might be because of my overclocking but it happened even at stock settings so it is not overclocking related. The only thing I can do is to fully disable sleep mode in both windows and BIOS(I think) to overcome this. This is just a workaround and not a solution.

Anybody have seen this before in windows 7 ? Suggestions? Comments?
Thanks.

Answer:Windows 7 fails to wake up from sleep

1: test your hdd with hd tune or hd sentinel to see it there are any communication or sector problems.
2: disable all background programs and see if the problem continues. if not start adding stuff back unit it happens again.
3: update your bios.
4: my preference, stop using sleep mode and turn it off. it can't take that long to boot?!

stand by/sleep mode has always been a PITA!!

My Dell desktop PC has been running Windows 10 since last Fall. About two weeks ago it began to have difficulty waking from sleep. Pressing the power button or a key on the keyboard causes the fan to come on and the hard drive to spin up, but the screen remains dark and in low-power mode. When I press a key the Caps Lock indicator lights up briefly.
I have to shut the PC down by a long press on the power button. When I reboot it, it starts up OK and in fact the previous set of running programs is reopened. I think this might be due to hybrid sleep: when I force a restart Windows reloads state from the hibernation file.
I've tried a couple of suggestions I found online, such as using System Restore to roll back. No improvement. Others have suggested changing the version of a device driver, such as the graphics driver, but my graphics driver is the same version it has been since installing W10.
Has anyone else noticed a change in the behaviour of sleep in the last couple of weeks? I'm wondering if this is due to some update pushed by Windows Update.
TIA for any advice.

Answer:Desktop PC fails to wake from sleep, how can I fix this?

Hi Richard,
Are you using Windows 10 1511 version ? If yes, Please try to install the latest windows update KB3140768 which brings your windows version into Windows 10 build 10586.164. So far it is fixing my issue with "sleep issue" on Microsoft Surface hardware.
No problem so far that I can see.
Hope this helps.

Hello, I have 3 HDDs on my PC. Two WDC 640 GB Blacks (manufacture date June 2009) and a 1 TB Black (manufacture date November 2009). I use the 1 TB Black for storing my documents while the two 640 GB Blacks are for OS/Apps and Scratch files respectively.

The problem is when I wake up the PC from S3 sleep mode. The 2 640 GB Blacks spin up fine and I could get to the desktop but the 1 TB Black fails to start. Has anyone had issues similar to mine? Any suggestions?

Motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-55P-UD4PA.

I have a U430 touch which worked fine with Windows 8.1 until some update caused problems with waking from sleep. Now on wake from sleep the computer restarts itself (no crach log after this happens) I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 but this did not solve the problem and I tried suggested solutions to various other sleep problems (e.g. installing an older IMEI version, setting devices no to wake the computer, turning off fast startup, etc. and nothing seems to work). Help with this would be very much appreciated! It is very annoying not to have a sleep function on the computerThanks!Aya

Hello to everyone, I have a HP p7-1417cb that was bundled with the HP 2711x monitor.  The past few months I've had intermintant issues with the monitor not wanting to "wake up" after sleep or a restart.  The monitor will come on and will scan the DVI/HDMI sources but won't find anything and will go back to sleep. Thanksfully the computer is still under warranty (I purchased in December 2012 from Sam's Club and opted for the 3 year extended warranty and if you are a plus member you get an extra year for free so in essence I have until Dec 2016) and has been back for service 4 times.  I just got it back and all they did was reload software.  I can do that!! Anyway, I have tried a different DVI cable without luck.  I tried a HDMI cable using a DVI adaptor.  No luck.  I tried a different monitor with a DVI cable without success.  I tried a VGA cable to a Samsung TV using the PC port and it worked.  The Asurion people are simply reloading software.  Maybe this computer can't use Windows 10?  They claim it's Windows 10 causing the issues.  It shipped with Windows 8 - upgraded to Windows 8.1 with the Pro Pack.  Ungraded to Windows 10 when it became available to comsumers and since I had the Pro version, it gave me Windows 10 Pro.  NO issues up until a few months ago.  The computer has the Radeon HD 7660D (integrated of course) video card and haven't found any updates. For years I have had dual monitors working fine in my Win 7 machine. Then a few months ago I started having problems when the computer turn on or wakes from sleep mode. The primary monitor turns on then switches off after a second. The only remedy is to
turn off the monitor, turn on, and repeat until finally the monitor stays awake.

I have tried shutting down the computer and starting using the system restore disk - the monitor does not come on.
I tried installing a replacement video card (and turning off the motherboard video support) the problem is the same. This indicates it is not the video driver or physical video chip.

Hi all,

just bought a new Portege M800 running Vista.

When the system goes into sleepmode or hibernation, there isn't any posisbility to wake the system up. I have to remove the battery to start up again.

Downloaded and installed the latest BIOS, did all Vista updates. Also checked the BIOS, wake on LAN and wake on keyboard are enabled
Anyone else with this problem?

Meanwhile, I disabled hiernation and sleepmode in Vista, but this shouldn't be the way to do it.

Any advice much appreciated
Cheers
Dave

Answer:Portege M800 - Sleep mode and wake up fails

Hello

I?m not a Portege M800 owner but normally I would suggest that you should try to update the BIOS and install all Windows updates but you have already dont it.

What you can do now? If you have installed your own Windows version try it with ?factory settings?. Maybe it has something to do with the software or so? I?m not sure.

If it doesn?t work I think you will need professional help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can check your notebook and exchange faulty hardware parts if it?s necessary.

Hi,

I am running Windows 7 Pro x64 and I am having an issue where my computer goes into sleep mode, fails to wake from sleep, strangely resumes its state once I do a cold restart, and then after restarting again, refuses to boot.

Here is what's happening step-by-step:
Computer goes to sleep based on the time set in the Balance Power options scheme. Fine. Often, computer wakes up perfectly fine from moving the mouse or pressing a key. Fine. Very occasionally however, upon waking up the computer, the lights, keyboard lights, fans and everything else except for the display comes on. I am forced to do a cold shutdown by pressing the reset button. Upon booting up, Windows displays "Restarting Windows" rather than "Starting Windows" and resumes its state when it went to sleep. Strange but OK. Everything seems to work normally. The problems come in when I then do a shutdown or restart after it has resumed from the cold shutdown. The computer shuts down perfectly fine but during the next boot, freezes right during the animation of the windows logo and immediately restarts the computer and launches into the DOS-looking prompt asking whether I want to do a Startup Repair because the computer failed to boot.

I have tried Startup Repair from HD and from the Windows disc and neither have done anything. I am usually forced to just reformat everything and start anew. This problem recently started occurring after I installed an Intel X-25m 120GB ssd and put th... Read more

Answer:Windows fails to wake from sleep, then corrupts boot

Hi,

I just recently got hit with a similiar problem, it unfortunately resulted in a corrupted BIOS that is unrepairable, it ends up locked in a low power state. There is no one single reason why Windows fails to wake up, and it's kind of a common problem. From the research I've put into it, hardware and the version of Windows does not matter. You'll either suffer from it, or you won't. My recommendation would be to disable both your display and PC sleep settings, and stick to manually shutting down and a screensaver to completely avoid it before any possible hardware damage is inflicted, and until there is more information available on it. The CPU, mobo and PSU are the most likely to become damaged.

If you still wish to use Sleep, make sure all your drivers are up to date, along with Windows, might make a small difference.

If you have another system available to you, or are able to borrow a mates, go ahead and use it to test your hardware for faults incase your situation is hardware based, and not failed coding on Microsoft's part. Also on that note, try removing your SSD for a week or two (or however long it usually takes before your system decides to sleep in) and see if it solves it, and post back with results.

I would still keep an eye on here, no less, incase a solution comes to light. Go ahead and do some Google searches on the issue, the plethora of possible fixes people have tried may work for you.

If possible, can you recall anything else you have ... Read more

but not after a short period?

Hello to all

I have set up a windows 7 x64 machine as a file server for my htpc in the lounge.
Now to save pennies i have set it to sleep at night and then wake in the mornings so its up and ready for the music and movies to be present for the htpc.

Now if i manually run the scheduled task to set the machine to sleep and set the wake schedule for ten minutes later, it wakes fine. But if i run the schedule as it should at night, the system never wakes in the morning and neither will the mouse let me? i have to press the power button for it to come back to life like its hibernating. But i have disabled hibernate using the following link.

I have a step by step guide as to what i have done in regards to both sleep and wake schedule here.

Any advice would be greatly received and tested asap, also when the kids have has their showers and in bed i will provide specs of that system if its going to help.

Hi there,

I am running a Windows 7 64-bit setup, and I'm trying to get a timer to wake Windows from sleep or hibernation.

I've got it to work flawlessly on my desktop, however on my laptop, a Dell D630, I can't seem to get it to work. I've created a task triggering on a specific time and running the operation '/c "exit"', which should just start a command prompt and close it again. I've set it to "run with highest privileges" and "wake the computer to run this task". However, it just doesn't boot as scheduled.

The history of the scheduler says nothing at the moment that the trigger is set to go off, but a minut later (probably when I manually boot) I get a "Task scheduler "{....}" instance of the task "\Wakeup" due to a time trigger condition."

What can I do to fix this?

Thank you.

Answer:Scheduler fails while trying to wake Windows from sleep/hibernation.

Hello and welcome to Seven Forums.

Some things you can try for testing:

Turn off "run with highest privileges" - you shouldn't need it for this task

Try different setting combinations for:
"Run whether user is logged on or not" / "Run only when user is logged on"
"Start the task only if the computer is an AC power"
"Stop if the computer switches to battery power"

Compare each page in the Task settings between the Desktop and Laptop.
See if you can find some different setting(s) that might cause this.

If you logon with a Standard account when the computer sleeps, try using an Admin account.

Hope this helps,
David

hey inspector_60could you uninstall all Lenovo software that you have installed.then see if you have the same issue.if you have the same issue, then run msconfig and turn off all startup program except windows startup items and try again. this is to determine if something in the startup might be causing the issue.

I have a Dell Optiplex 755 with WinXPPro SP3, 2GB RAM and an Intel Core 2 Duo E4600, and it is unreliable for Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring. I also wonder whether my Standby - Sleep - Suspend (S1 or S3) is working correctly.

When the PC is in Standby - Sleep - Suspend mode (S1 or S3), Wake on LAN and Wake on Ring work some of the time but not all of the time, and I'd like them to be 100% reliable.

These may be two different problems, but your advice will be appreciated. (Also, if I should post in a different forum, please advise.)

My Network Card is an Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection, and I recently upgraded its drivers using "generic" PROXP.exe from the Intel website, although this has not helped the problem. The specific driver file e1e5132.sys is now from 2009 -- it used to be from 2007. But, as I say, Wake on LAN from Standby was not and is still not reliable, both before and after the driver update.

In Settings .. Network Connections ... Local Area Connections ... Properties ... Configure ... Power Management, all the Wake on LAN options are checked ON:

- Wake on Directed Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet
- Wake on Magic Packet from Power Off State
- Wake on Link

The NIC card's Diagnostic checks are all OK.

My fax modem card is a Conexant D850 PCI V.92 Modem, and I have the most recent drivers dated 7/27/07, version 7.67.0.50. In Settings ... Phone and Modem Options ... Modems ... Properties, "Allow this device to bring... Read more

More to above: Dell has suggested I must re-install Windows. I've never done that, and I realize I'd probably lose all my applications and data - no good. Seems to me that's like using an atomic bomb to kill a mosquito. And why should I assume that will work?

But is there a way to re-install -- or maybe fix -- Windows that leaves everything else safe?

FYI - About a month or so ago, I ran SFC (System File Checker) in repair mode, and that didn't help with this problem.

Any ideas?

Hi I am a fairly capable person, fairly confident on my computer but don't always know all the jargon and abbreviations you guys use, so please bear with me.

I just had to do a clean system install as my computer was running slow and nothing else helped. It is running lovely in general now except that an old symptom from way back that I had solved (and cannot remember how) has returned.
When the computer powers down to save energy (if I walk away) usually I click the mouse and it wakes, but now it won't wake and the fans come on fully and they just don't stop until I press the power button to shut it down. Then when I start it up again it acts normal, no error message etc. Today it also seemed to shut itself down when I went out for a while and had left it on a dell diagnostic thing on the dell support website (that bore no fruit, didn't seem to do anything).

I wish for the life of me that I could remember what 'fixed' this before but it was a few years ago and being a mother of a small child I only have half a brain for remembering these things.

ETA it regularly now shuts itself down when left to sleep for a while, never had that before?

I really hope someone can help?

Answer:Won't wake from sleep and fans on full - needs to be shutdown

Then I have to do a hard reset. I had the same problem without the 2nd drive when I tried to use the HD Password in the BIOS and found out that it was something to do with the Crucial M4 drive I'm using. But this same problem is now happening ever since using the 2nd drive slot. Any ideas? I really like the extra storage space and don't want to remove it based on this problem.

Answer:T410 fails to wake from sleep with 2nd Hard drive installed?

Quick update. It wakes up eventually if you leave the machine for about 40 seconds.

Good Day, My Lenovo U41-70 laptop fails to wake up from sleep mode after I lift open the screen lid.The power button does light up and I can hear the system running but the screen is not lighting up nor is it showing anything at all. I always have to end up pressing the Power button for a longer time to force-restart the system. This problem seemed to happen after I updated the system to Windows 10. I would appreciate any advice from Leveno or users of Lenovo who have previously encountered & have the solution(s) to the same problem. Thank you in advance. Regards,Jersine

Have x201t that was purchased August 2010.Sleep state worked fine, and after installing several apps and updates, it stopped working properly in early October 2010:The system failed to recover from a "sleep" state and required a soft reboot (4 second depressing of on/off button).

I'm using Logitech's latest LGS for my G700. It's very annoying that I have to exit and restart LGS when my system comes out of sleep or LGS doesn't recognize the mouse as being awake (windows drives it then). This happens when the mouse is running wirelessly. It also happens across versions.

Is there a way to create a task in TS that will exit and restart LSG upon the wake event before or at logon?

Thanks,
Salt

Answer:Using Task Scheduler to restart a program upon wake from sleep

Here is a trigger (Custom Event Filter) for a scheduled task I have that might help you.
It runs when the PC wakes from sleep or resumes from hibernate.
Here is the source text for the Event Filter XML

Code:
<QueryList>
<Query Id="0" Path="System">
<Select Path="System">*[System[Provider[@Name='Microsoft-Windows-Power-Troubleshooter'] and (Level=4 or Level=0) and (EventID=1)]]</Select>
</Query>
</QueryList>
You would need to add actions to:
1) kill the task for the running program
2) start the program

Hope this helps,
David

When I put my computer in sleep mode, it won't 'wake up'. I have to manually turn off the computer and then start it up again. This has happened twice. I'm not putting it into sleep mode until I find out what's wrong and that's exasperating as I normally leave my computer on all day so I can periodically play my games.

Starting with BIOS 1.61, Twist will fail to wake up after sleeping for approx 3 hours.  After sleeping for 3 hours, the system will enter a "deep sleep" state that Lenovo calls 30-Day Standby.  Due to a BIOS bug, the system is not able to wake from this state.  After trying to wake for 2 minutes (while the red LED flashes), eventually it will fail and the system will reboot.

To work-around this issue, please run Lenovo Settings from the Win8 start screen.  Then click on Power, and choose the option to disable 30-day Standby

Answer:Twist/S230u bug: system fails to wake after long period of sleep

On my Twist S230U, I have turned off the 30 day standby as suggested but it has not fixed the problem. At first I thought it had but 1 day later it hasn't. The 30 day standby is still off.

When I put my laptop to sleep and then attempt to wake it up, it will power on (going through the boot up screens) instead of just waking up, thus causing me to lose any information open on the computer.

I have tried a few things to try to wake it up to no avail:
sfc /scannow in cmd
unplug all usb devices before going to sleep/waking up
rollback graphics drivers
resetting power plan settings and power button settings back to default state

Is there some memory dump file I could send to help fix this?

What happens if you disable fast startup?
There are some lengthy threads in the forum about sleep issues- worth searching to see if anything helps. As you can probably guess not all sleep-related threads match your exact symptom.

G'day All,

First post here - been having this problem for a few months now - developed a work around, but it's starting to get under my skin now.. Mainly because the system does it's updates at night, which means that my PC stays on (after BSOD) and usually keeps the screen on as well, which wakes me up eventually, or keeps the house hot (who cares, anyway.)

I've been reading the forums & trying to work it out myself, except the error code changes depending on what I'm doing..

I've attached the current BSOD grab, hopefully it gives enough information, and I've run the FurMark - and the display driver crashed (as usual - I'm starting to think it might be a faulty Graphics card..)

Enough of my chatter - let me know if it's something simple

I know this is not the most powerful laptop ever, but it seems to take an inordinately long time to wake from sleep. Any suggestions on how to improve this? Would adding a flash drive for Windows Ready Boost make a difference?

Answer:X120e slow to wake from sleep

Hi

Thanks for your post

Under Power options I am sure you have sleep mode enabled and in that setting there is also "Hybrid" sleep mode.  If "Hybrid sleep mode" is enabled then the system has to write all 4 GB of RAM data to the hard drive and then load it upon resuming windows.  disable hybrid mode and I'm sure your problem will go away

Since computer is only slow after wake-from-sleep, and fast again after restart.
I thought it would have something to do with driver or sleep state. So I dumped

Here are the differences

I emphasize that the problem occurs when sleep conditions (or being turned off or hibernated) is for a long time (more than an hour) and in short time periods, there is no error!!!! I have a Razer Copperhead USB Mouse.

Specs of my desktop can be found here: TechComet: My Gadgets

Basically, I put my desktop to sleep (using S3-STR) and when I wake it up my moues does not respond for about 15-30 s after which it works fine. I am running Windows 7.

I have no other problems with my system, my keyboard responds fine and I have all necessary drivers installed.

I have no idea why this is happening and the fact that my computer resumes from sleep in 2 seconds is great, but not when I have to wait another 30 for the mouse to work!

Any ideas?

Answer:USB Mouse slow to respond after wake from Sleep

Welcome

Did you check for new drivers?
Are drivers working properly?

Did you experiment with another mouse?

Go to device manager, to check drivers. A yellow warining marker will inidcate problems. It will not show if it is the most current, however.

When waking my computer from sleep it takes 8 seconds for the screen to come on, then nothing responds for another 25 seconds. I fixed all the errors in event manager, updated the bios, installed all the newest drivers, changed BIOS settings. All to no avail.

All the components (except the MB and CPU) were recycled from my last motherboard which would be ready to go immediately from sleep. My previous build (which ran great) was also Windows 8.1 but the motherboard died. I have no password. The lock screen is disabled. Disabled suspend, and shut off hybrid sleep.

Why the lag? Is there any way to find out what's slowing me down?

Answer:Windows 8.1 New Build Slow Wake from Sleep

Solved - I examined the sata settings in the BIOS and found the SSD drives were not detecting. Or perhaps semi-detecting since the system could boot off of them. I moved them onto different ports and they started to detect. This also restored my proper wake from sleep speed.

Hello all

I am having an issue with slow Network performance after my machines wake from sleep.

After a fresh boot of my machines I achieve 30 - 40MB/s (Wired) or 10 - 14MB/s (Wireless N) from my Nas, however, when I resume my machines from Sleep the Network performance falls to 10 - 20KB/s for both the Wired and Wireless machines.

I have found that if I Disable the Network Adapters and then immediately Re-Enable them my Netwok speed is restored.

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate x86 and x64 with Realtek and Atheros Nics.

All Drivers on all machines are upto date.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

Kevin

Answer:Slow Network performance after wake from Sleep

not sure if it's been fixed yet... windows 7 "sleep" is a killer. I suggest turning sleep off and just just turning the monitors off after a set ammount of time.

I have 2 harddrives in my Windows 7 RTM PC - a Seagate 500gb 7200.10 SATA (I think) as my c: drive and a Seagate 1.5tb 7200.11 SATA as my media drive d:. When waking from system S3 sleep I can immediately access my c drive and all its files. I cannot, however, access my media drive for 2-3 minutes after wake. After that time passes, response is snappy once again. I have no such issues when I reboot.

Sometimes on wake - I'd say once out of every 2 dozen, my media drive disappears completely.

I contacted Seagate technical support and they had me increase the "Delay for HDD (Secs)" from 0 to 10 or something. This had no impact on wake from sleep, only on fresh boot.

I've swapped countless power/SATA cables and have even swapped out my media drive for another and had the same problem.

I've disable hybrid sleep and hibernation all together.

Any ideas?

Have you always had your OC at 2.7 or just recently bumped it up? I've just gone through hell with my Shuttle once I OC'd from 2.5 to 2.7. Just a weird coincidence that my PSU started acting up and before that my 7200.11 Seagate started doing weird spin up spin down shenanigans. I have same chipset as you. Try 2.5 with HT @ x4. I know your situation's not the same and it sounds more like a software issue.. but just worth a try to narrow things down.

I would report this directly to support but Lenovo it won't allow to me register my wife's X1 with my account inspite of the fact that I'm the one who ordered it. Ugh. Machine model: 20HRCT01WW My wife has 6 week old machine and it is much slower to wake from sleep than its predecessor (2nd Gen Carbon X1). I timed it this morning and it took in the range of 10 seconds. I just double checked the old, takes 4-5 seconds to wake up. (Having been asleep for several days). One would niavely assume, newer machine with faster CPU and SSD should wake faster. I have a pretty decent understanding of the various sleep states (S0 -> S4 - i.e. hibernate). I have spent a few minutes in the Event Viewer but can't find much useful logging of sleep state changes to figure out is going on. I have just time the time to wake from hibernate and its only marginally worse than sleep (~12 secs). (Full reboot is noticebly faster). How can I tweak the system so that wake from sleep is less painful? ThanksMark Levison

I updated my Aspire 7750G laptop to Windows 10, and everything went well except for one thing. When waking from sleep mode, it powers up, but just shows a black screen for about 90 seconds.  When it finally does show the Windows login screen, it works just fine.  It's just the delay that I can't explain.   No amount of keypress or mouse click speeds it up. Before upgrading, it did not have this problem.  Wake from sleep took about 2 seconds. I have the latest bios update and all the latest video drivers.  Is this a known bug?  Anything else I should try? Thanks,Matt

Hi everyone, when I wake my Yoga 900 from sleep mode, it takes around 6 seconds for the screen to turn back on. That's reasonable. My girlfriend's Yoga 900 however takes only 2 seconds, we bought them around the same time, same system etc. Also, since yesterday, when the screen goes black after the set time (e.g. 5 min) and I touch the touchpad or press any key it also takes around 7 seconds before the screen goes back on which is way too long since before it reacted alost instantaneously. What might be the issue? Could both things be connected somehow? Thanks for any help!

I have an issue with the sleep function. The computer does not awake from sleep. When I try to do it, it behaves as if it was waking, but it never ends and there is only a black screen; the mouse and keyboard are inoperative. The only thing possible to do is a hard reboot. When it boots, it shows a notice with a minute report (in the zip file) usually saying there was a blue screen, but I NEVER see any blue screen at all.

I know the power configuration is OK because I have always used the same scheme. A powercfg ?energy report shows several errors and warnings. They refer to USB and PCI (vendor 1002=ATI motherboard), but I don?t know how to repair them.

I downloaded the drivers downloader from Rrecipester.org and downloaded and installed the drivers. They are all Broadcom Corporation signed, the brand of my USB Bluetoth attachment. I rebooted after installing, as recommended. Run powercfg ?energy again and got the same report issues (in the zip file). I don?t think the processor utilization warnings to be very important because they are low and sporadic picks. It has been like this for some time now, so I don?t have a restore point. Can someone help and tell me what I can do so solve this issue, please?

Files uploaded in the attached zip:
. Windows warning after reboot
. Windows dump and xml files (2 = 1 each)
. Powercfg -energy report
I wanted to correct the thread title, but was unable to do it. Maybe someone else can do it.

Answer:No Wake From Sleep – BlockedI have an issue with the sleep function. T

Quite confident it's a driver issue, it will be very difficult to troubleshoot from the one included dump file though as it's incomplete and inconclusive.

Hi all - quick question. I have a Inspiron 13 7000 special edition. So far, I love it. The only nit that I have with it is that frequently, when waking up from sleep - even if I just have the lid closed for 5 minutes - it takes about 30 seconds to 1 minute to wake from sleep.
It's pretty annoying and if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

Sometimes this laptop refuses to come out of Sleep or Hibernate (blinking cursor) and will force a Startup Repair.

Occasionally BSOD's will occur but the previous issue mentioned is more prevalent.

Has been happening over the span of the last two months.

Appreciate any help, thanks in advance.

Answer:Wake on Ring problem - Fax modem fails to wake PC reliably from standby

I may not be able to help, but I am curious - is this a dedicated telephone line?

If not, what services do you use, like call forward, messaging, call waiting, etc.

Or does the dedicated line have anything like that that you know of? (or didn't know of)

Question: Wake from sleep

My Vista PC keeps going into sleep mode, or closes down. When I start it up again, it gets to a black screen saying continue restore, or re-start. Sometimes I get a blue screen with some sort of loading message on it, but on re-booting, it's ok. I 'googled' the sleep mode problem, and on one link it said it is commonly and registry error, and I needed to download a program to fix it. Can anyone help with the solution. Thanks.

Hi, I was wondering if anybody has had this problem before?

My computer was put to sleep earlier on today, and I moved the mouse to turn it back on. The power light went from orange (sleep mode) to blue (powered on). Nothing was displayed on the machine. Bashed some buttons, nothing happened, so did a hard reboot.

The power button went red (which happens if I hard reboot it) then to blue but that's it. The fans and hard drive starts going, but no beeps, no POST, no display. Nothing.

Already, I've tried:

- Reseating my RAM sticks - nothing
- Unplugging the hard drive - bf actually broke a sata slot, although he says it was lose before. The pins are not straight now and I can't get the black slot back onto the mobo. Plugged hard drive into sata 2 slot, still get no reaction.

Anything else I can try?

Answer:wake from sleep

It may be that one or more devices in your system is/are not compatible with sleep mode, hence those options are greyed out.

Hi guys, srry haven't been to tech support guy for awhile, in case if i miss any information, feel free to remind me
and i'll post it asap.

My laptop is about 2 years old (Acer Aspire 6920), one day like any normal day i was away from my laptop
and it went to sleep. The next time i was using it i tried to wake it up, it froze for around 10 mins, so i tried to
restart it and the next thing i knew it only starts up to "startup repair". Any attempts to access safe mode to
debug the computer has failed and since then the laptop has gone on a loop -->fail to repair in startup repair
--> restart computer again --> running startup repair. So i decided to reinstall the OS.

after reformatting and reinstalling windows 7 to my laptop though, i seem to encounter a similar error. The laptop
seems to work fine although whenever it goes to sleep and i try to wake it up, the screen froze and starts
flashing and the laptop wont work until you restart the computer again. I made my second attempt to reinstall
a new OS to the system and the same error occurred. My laptop has the latest bios and i tried various versions
of drivers for my graphics card (intel 965 chipset) and the problem continues to persist.

I was wondering if there's any program to debug this error or whether this is a hardware error that i can somehow detect.

Thanks!

Hello IndianinIA,

I wonder if that was caused by your network driver. Try uninstalling and reinstalling that driver, e1e6032e.sys, and make sure that you get the latest version.

Hello Eight Forums,

New HP Notebook. One month power on. W8.1 64bit

Setup with Classic Shell and Fast Startup Off

Have to decide next week. If I should return for new machine exchange or keep with two known issues.

1) Sleeps on timer okay. Just cannot wake from Sleep. Tap space bar. Black screen goes gray. Times to black.
Noticed ethernet lite not on. Plug is clear plastic with white led normally on and on during startup.

Suspect power to NIC not satisfied so, no wake from Sleep. Have to force shutdown. Startup is normal. Forced shutdown is not flagged prompting startup options.

2) igfx Tray Module has stopped working pops dialog box on some startups.

HP and I have been round and round. HP wants me to contact Microsoft. We all know that's not fun. HP is bad enough. Always leaving remote session with machine worse for the experience.

HP went through settings and drivers. HP un-installed, re-installed over-installed and updated drivers till they were exhausted. Using HP Support Assistant and pulling soft paks from HP.com.
Then came the requisite System Recovery. Then came more BS.

Yesterday, after a Device Manager graphics driver un-install / install. Windows Update offered it's two cents with an Intel HD Graphics update.

I can return to Staples for new same machine. No harm. No foul. No cost. New warranty period.

Machine worked no issues afaik for two weeks. Then BIOS and UEFI manual pull updates via HP Support Assistant. No issues.... Read more

Since installing SP1 my computer has been acting like a one year old. When I put it to sleep at night it keeps waking and then goes to sleep only to wake again. Left untouched it went through this cycle all night. Starts 20 seconds after I put it to sleep and stays on for 2 minutes and then goes to sleep for 20 seconds then wake for two minutes etc etc etc.I disconnected a flash drive that I had in a USB port.
I disabled "wake timers" under Sleep in Power Options
I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" in the properties of the USB wireless mouse
In the properties for the network adapter under the "Advanced" tab I disabled the "Wake on Settings". That fixed the problem but then I couldn't wake my computer with Logmein and I think Orb is disabled.
Noticed when I went back that there's another tab "Power Control" for network adapter. I disabled "allow this device to wake the computer" and changed the Advanced tab "Wake on setting" to "OS controlled".
Now when I put it to sleep it seems to stay down. I'll update tomorrow if it misbehaves tonight.

Answer:Sleep Wake Sleep Wake

If you think it might be the network card, you can always open a cmd prompt and run powercfg -lastwake to see which device was logged as waking the machine last.

When i go into configure my network adapter, and go to the power management tab, if "allow the computer to turn of this device to save power" is unchecked, the app works, but when the computer comes back on it cant connect to the internet, if it is checked, the app doesnt work, but when the computer turns back on the internet works. Any ideas on how to solve this problem, so the internet will work when it wakes and the app will work, thanks!

Hi Guys/Gals

Never use sleep function but last night instead of selecting shutdown hit sleep by mistake. Couldn't get system to wake from sleep and had to turn off by holding power button.

Today when switching system back on i get fan & case lights on , hdd and dvd activity. The keyboard is unresponsive (no lights) and monitor remains in stand by. Mouse gets power but doesn't wake pc.

Using reset or power button on case just restarts system to exact condition above.

Can't contact pc manufacturer til monday (pc 4 months old). Read quite a few other posts regarding vista sleep issues but haven't found anything that would seem to rectify this problem.

Any comments/tips gratefully recieved

Answer:Can't Wake PC From Sleep

Well I'm a beginner but I had a lesser important case than yours. I found you interupt a process of sleep if you try to wake it before about 5 seconds. Anyway, there are a couple of things you can try.

Unplug the power cord and plug it back in.

Pull out the wall socket thingy and put it back in.

Try doing something like booting into safe mode if you can.
The pc maybe still functioning but the monitor can't interact with it. Once you try to boot it, keep pressing F8 for about 10 seconds and then press enter. See if anything happens.

Could also be a shortcircut or something. Other people have had a similar problem.

Hi,
I've been running Windows 7 Ultimate for the better part of a year now. For about the last week or so now, my computer is going in to (what I assume is) sleep mode at the most inopportune moments. No amount of anything will wake the computer from its sleep - not the keyboard, mouse, ethernet activity (which should keep it from falling asleep in the first place) - only a hard reboot will bring my PC back to a state where I can use it.

Some of the things I've tried, so that people don't answer with "change your power plan settings" or some such thing. If it was that easy, I wouldn't be here asking for help. I'll restate that I've been using the same Win7 Ultimate install on the same PC for a year now, and it's only in the last week this has been happening.

Anyways, I have:
Verified all my power plan settings;
Disabled any screen saver;
This is an older desktop, not a laptop, so hibernate and hybrid sleep options are not even present. Nevertheless, I've followed this guide and this one for disabling both.
Used device manager to specify my keyboard, mouse, and ethernet card as "wake up" devices. Also used the command line to manually set these as "wake from any state", only to have them all not work.
Tried changing group policy and eliminating sleep/hibernate from the user group.
As I said, it's only been doing this for a week or so now. All my drivers are current. All my system updates are current. I haven't installed any new software. I was ... Read more

I have a new computer with Vista Home Basic. If I set it to "sleep" for short periods there is no problem. The power button light flashes and if I press the button the PC resumes where I left off. However if I leave it in sleep mode for a long time, eg overnight, the PC will not awake and I have to turn the mains power off and on and reboot. The PC suppliers say that with modern computers and programs sleep should not be used for long periods. Seems strange. If I want to continue in the morning where I left off in the evening what can I do? Should I use hybernate? How does that work?

Answer:Sleep - can't wake up!

It may be considered unwise to leave your PC on for long periods when unused. The PC is still `live` electrically and is using power, still `warm` and accessible. As a result, there is the risk of damage from electrical power `spikes`, perhaps fire could result and of course it is not particularly `green`.Whether there is a real problem with it not resuming after long periods of inactivity or whether this is a `feature` of the OS I have no idea. But, it would seem reasonable for it to resume unless there is some form of software problem; bad graphics drivers have been known to cause this kind of anomaly in XP.

Hi,

Hoping someone can help me with this.

I installed 7RC a couple of months ago. Since then whenever my pc sleeps I can not wake it up. It used to wake up fine in XP.

To get it going again I have to cold reboot or pull the plug. When it comes back up everything I was doing is still there, I just have to enter my password.

I think I have all the settings right but if someone could run me through everything that needs to be set I'd be really grateful.

Thanks in advance.

So it sleeps no bother normally but it seems that if my htpc has woken it with a wol magic packet, it will not go back to sleep , ever unless manually put to sleep. Rebooting and automatic sleep works again. I recently reinstalled windows and have looked atvevery setting I can think of. Including unattended sleep timeoutvin gpedit which I have tried not config and set to one min. Powercfg shows nothing.

Answer:no sleep after wake on lan

I have been searching the internet and it seems that this situation is unique.

To clarify, sleep works fine but if the computer is woken with a magic packet from any source it does not then go back to sleep after inactivity. Even the monitor stays on.

In gpedit I have tried disabling allow applications to prevent sleep under power options with no change.

Anybody got any ideas, this is driving me crackers!

I have a 4 yr old custom built desktop upgraded from Win 7 pro to Win 10 pro about 8 months ago. Up until two weeks ago the sleep/wake up has worked perfect. Now the unit will not wake from sleep. I have tried everything I have seen and nothing has worked. It has to be booted from sleep. I have now set sleep time to never and will shut the unit down at night rather than letting it go to sleep. Anybody have anything new that I could try. Is MS working on this???

Answer:will not wake from sleep

Win 10 pro installed on a Desktop computer. Like so many I have experienced the problem with the Sleep option not allowing the computer to Wake. Nothing I have tried has done anything to change this, so I decided to not use the Sleep and to just Shut Down when I am not using the computer. It seems that the Shut Down option does the same thing as Sleep. They both put the computer in a state where it will not Wake up. The only options are to hold the Power button until the computer completely shuts down, or to hit the reset button. Now when I do a normal Shut Down I am then holding the Power Button to completely Shut Down the computer. This is totally ridiculous. Is anyone working on a solution to these problems? I also have a Laptop with Win 10 installed that is doing the same thing with Sleep and Shut Down.

Hi manusdn7 and welcome

The windows memory test does not stress your memory enough to tell, plus it is run from within windows.

You need to run memtestx86

Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember that memtest errors can be either memory or bad motherboard slots so you may have to test memory one stick at a time, and the slots with known good memory.

Windows 7 x64 7600 clean install, intel e6550 cpu, intel 965g motherboard, sapphire radeon 4670 video card on 2 monitors, nvidia 6200 video card on two more mornitors, 1.5gb memory

- no problems going to sleep or waking up, using either S1 or S3 as sleep state in bios

2nd system
Windows 7 x64 7600 clean install, intel i5 750 cpu, gigabyte p55-md80 motherboard, sapphire radeon 4670 video card on 2 monitors, nvidia 6200 video card on two more monitors, 4gb memory

- no problems going to sleep or waking up, using S1 as sleep state in bios

- no problem going to sleep using S3, however cannot wake up from S3 sleep. Pressing the power button produces a normal reboot instead of a wake up.

System 2 can sleep and wake up normally when using just the nvidia 6200. It is only when the 4670 video card is used in system 2 that S3 sleep becomes an issue. Doesn't matter if its by itself or paired with the 6200.

I have tried every sleep tweak suggested here in terms of modifying bios settings and advanced power settings. I've tried the radeon driver 9.9, 9.5, and 9.3 for win7 64. There are many reports of S3 issues with MSI motherboards in general, as well as with win7 ati drivers. Open to any suggestions. Thanks

Greetings.  I have a T61 that won't wake from sleep. Situation:Put PC to "sleep" using Fn+F4, closing lid or let it go to "sleep" via system timerPC will not wake upon opening lid, using Fn+F4 or power button. We're forced to either 1) hold down power button (which forces a reboot), or 2) (when that fails), unplug from wall AND remove battery.System:T61, 7664 RYU, Bios 7LETC6WW (2.26)VistaAll Microsoft and Lenovo patches installed and current Notes:Don't have a restore point we can refer back to.Don't want to have to burn it down and start over.My hunch is that there is a conflict somewhere in the registry (maybe between what the bios thinks and what the registry has)?I'll PayPal you $25 if your solution fixes it....  Seriously. Many thanks.

Question: Wake up from Sleep

I have a Q180 and N5902 wireless remote. After putting the Q180 to sleep I wish to wake it from the remote as the Q180 is in an normally out of reach area. I have gone to Device manager for keyboard and mouse and both were checked for "turn on computer from this device". However, I am not able to wake the computer. What is the way to do this?

Hi group,When my PC (HP Pavilion) goes into "idle" - when I'm not using it - it will not wake back up. I get no video, and sometimes my mouse will not wake up either. When I disconnect my power cord and reconnect the computer, I am able to boot up and things work. The computer works fine as long as I don't let it go to idle. For example, when I shut it down, it will boot up fine the next time. This just started happening recently after two updates: one from Norton, and the other from Quicken. I have no idea whether one of these caused the problem. I keep my PC well-maintained with all the latest updates. I have run the power troubleshooter, as well as the updates troubleshooter, and both detected no problems. Open to any ideas you may have,Thanks,Jeff

Hi All,
My boss just bought a XPS 15 9550 last September.  There are a few cases each week that it does not wake up from sleep.  All drivers are up to date.  I did an online check with Dell for hardware check and all seems fine.
The computer goes into some state that the screen is black, the computer is running and there is nothing else but holding the power button down to restart it.

It's frustrating.

Answer:Cant wake up from Sleep

Hi,
Thank you for writing to us!
We would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused.

Answer:How do I wake up Windows 10 from Sleep?

If all else fails, you should be able to wake it up by briefly pressing the power button on your computer's case.

I have done a lot of reading on this website in the last couple days and I have learned so much! Thanx guys/gals! I read the posts about computer not waking up after sleep mode, most replies said you should shut it down at night if for some reason the computer won't wake when you try to use it in the morning. Two questions pertaining to this..I have my defrag etc run at 3:00 am, it won't run if my computer is down will it? Also now I am having problems with walking away from the computer during the day (even a half hour) and I come back and have to restart the computer because it won't work. I know the hard start is bad for my computer! I have done lots of things posted here because my computer is so slow, and it has seemed to help a little bit, but computer is still slow, (even when I was on this morning at 5:30 am) and it use to fly! I used spider that was recommend on another post and cleaned out alot, I defragged again, I cleaned up my start up thanks to someone here looking at what was running and telling me what could go! Also I have to click on links several times to get it to go to the page I want, mostly I can't even see the hour glass to tell me that it is at least trying to do something! Sorry such a long post and help/ideas would be greatly appreciated!

After my H50 machine goes into sleep mode, moving the mouse eliminates the screen saver back to the main screen, however, none of the programs work, at this point.   The open programs are all condensed on the taskbar.  When i hover the mouse over the task bar icons, I see the running programs and screens, but clicking on them does not activate the program into the larger screen.    I've had this problem right out of the box since I bought the computer several weeks ago. I end up shutting down the computer and restarting to get my programs to work again. Any ideas?

Answer:H50 - Does not wake up from sleep properly

What H50 model and what Windows OS are you running?Have you updated the system to the latest video drivers etc. or applied all the Windows Updates yet?

This was working fine on Win 8.1, but since my upgrade my PC now won't wake up from any keyboard, mouse or PC power button press once in S3 sleep or hibernation.

The only way to wake the PC is to reach back to the PSU and turn the power off, wait 5 seconds, then turn the power back on. I can then press the power button on the front of the PC and Windows then resumes from sleep.

powercfg /A returns this:

The following sleep states are available on this system:
Standby (S3)
Hibernate
Hybrid Sleep
Fast Startup
The following sleep states are not available on this system:
Standby (S1)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Standby (S2)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.
Standby (S0 Low Power Idle)
The system firmware does not support this standby state.

I have the latest firmware on my relatively new Gigabyte 970A-D3P. Any ideas?

hi, ive had my pc 3 years now and up untill xmas all was sweet as a nut but then it started to refuse to wake from sleep around 50% of the time..

i use sleep mainly so i can start it from my iphone and play itunes without having to go upstairs and wait for it to boot and as i say up untill xmas all was well

ive done virus checks, spybot and malwarebytes but nothing solves it

i did take the case panel off and noticed the graphic card didnt seem to be working (fan was stationary) and 2 red lights were on

normal boot from cold is fine (if a little slow)

any help would be greatly appreciated

thanks

ps, this booting from sleep is getting worse all the time and i would guess its around 75% failure right now

if this helps if i put it to sleep and try and awaken straight away its 100% failure, and if i leave it for 24 hours its the same, try and boot after a few hours has a better chance of booting

Answer:pc refuses to wake after sleep

Hi hondavee4,

Please run the SFC file checker (the sfc /scannow command) 3 times and post the last log file here once you have completed it for me. Follow the directions here:
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

If I install the "F6" drivers via the Device Manager, Bluetooth won't wake up after the computer has been put to sleep. If I install the drivers via the .exe installation bundle, it seems that Qualcomm installs a background process named "Extension Core" (BtvStack.exe) which wakes up the Bluetooth adapter after the computer wakes up.

Problem is, the .exe installation package includes both wifi and Bluetooth drivers, and the wifi drivers have issues when installed via the .exe - as a result, I have to install those using the "F6" drivers. So I'm stuck in a situation where working wifi means broken Bluetooth and vice versa
