I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Warning
Programs that claim to update your drivers install either the wrong or corrupted drivers.
If you have installed any driver with Driver Booster 3, please remove them as it may cause trouble.
You can remove the drivers via a restore point that normally is created.

The single dump is corrupted, so we need to wait for another crash. We might be able to force one.

DRIVER VERIFIER

Warning
Please make a backup of your important files and get your rescue media or create one.
Please create a restore point.
Please follow this tutorial to run driver verifier.

Driver verifier stresses your drivers and will crash your pc if any driver fails due to a violation.

Driver verifier should be performed for a max of 48 hours, or when you have a bluescreen, whatever comes first.

If driver verifier has found a violation and you can't get back into windows normally, try to boot into safe mode and reset in safe mode driver verifier, or in the troubleshooting options open command prompt and type verifier /reset.

Note
Your system will act very sluggishly while driver verifier is enabled, this is normal as your drivers will be being subjected to heavy testing in order to make them crash.

Hello,

I have bought a desktop about 5 month ago and it never has been stable.
I have random freezes (BSOD when I am lucky) every now and then.
I have given back the PC for reparation 2 times already. They changed the mobo and the second time the ram, but the same issue still pop.

The BSOD is always the same, a 0x000000D1 code about storport.sys

Nothing installed asside from the microsoft updates, no change of hardware.
I tried to use the latest storport.sys driver available from microsoft (even a beta version for a KB not yet deployed), but that did not help.

Here is the minidump from dbg tool:

Computer has been running stable on Windows 7 Home Premium for about a month but just recently my computer will randomly throw a BSOD with error code 0x000000d1 caused by storport.sys driver.

I've made sure all of my drivers are up to date and have searched multiple forums but found no suggested fixes besides a hotfix for Windows Server 2003.

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hello all. I keep getting BSOD. It happens even after reformatting and installing Windows, so I'm guessing it's a hardware problem. Can anyone help me?

Is Windows 7 . . . - x64 ? - Windows 7 Home Premium x64 - Full retail - What is the age of system (hardware)?
1 year 9 months
- What is the age of OS installation (have you re-installed the OS?)
Just reinstalled to reformatted HD.

Thank you,

Answer:BSOD at random, PFN_LIST_CORRUPT and KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

You have a Belkin USB Wireless Adaptor - Win7 doesn't like these devices, and when combined with older (Vista era) drivers it will spit out BSOD's at a rapid rate! Here's my rant about these devices:

Quote:
I do not recommend using wireless USB devices. Especially in Win7 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 - and using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

You also have the 2005 version of ASACPI.sys installed (it's the Asus ATK0110 ACPI Utility driver). This is a known cause of BSOD's in quite a few Win7 systems. Please update it from the Asus website for your motherboard/system. It's the 14th one down in the Utilities section on this page (you'll have to enter your OS type in the dropdown box): ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P7P55D PRO
It's called "ATK0110 driver for WindowsXP/Vista/Win7 32&64-bit"

Your Western Digital software drivers date from 2008. Please uninstall that software.

Please also update your networking drivers and your JMicron storage/RAID controllers - they date from 2009 and should be udpated.

If the above steps don't stop the BSOD's, please zip up and upload any new memory dumps with your next post - and we'll see what we can figure out from... Read more

Hi,

I just recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and after while it just started to BSOD more or less randomly, it appears to be triggered more often if I have any process open that does accesses the GPU (Browser, Games)

I already ran memtest86 for about 8 hours (over night) with about 6 passes and 0 errors so I figured it is most likely not my memory.

Then I used Driver Verifier to filter out almost anything that isn't really needed there shouldn't be much third party drivers left.

Also I tried to get something out of the crash dumps where the call stack seems consistent however it is not very helpful at all as it always happens in ntoskrnl at the exact same location.

After spending a lot of time trying to figure this out on my own I'm hoping theres someone smarter than me here

Edit: I should mention I also tested my hard drive and it seems fine at least chkdsk claims that.

Well, I have to admit I've been away from PC's for about the last decade and I decided to get back into PC Gaming. It's been pretty daunting, and I'm still getting back into the swing of things (I've been using a Mac for about the last ten years.) The build I've done has seen its share of troubles, the newest being a constant, seemingly random BSOD. Sometimes I can be up and running for about a half hour playing a game or just listening to music, other times it BSOD's right after boot up. I can't seem to make it past an hour or so and there never seems to be a logic behind the crash as I'm not doing anything very intensive. All drivers should be up to date, I had to bring it in for repair because of a dead power supply and the tech there updated all drivers, but the problem could still be in that area based on the crash report. If anyone could lend a hand that'd be great and if I've left anything out just let me know and I'll provide as much info as possible. Thanks!

Hi!

Since I've upgraded my PC with a new motherboard, CPU, a second Nvidia GTX 580 graphics card (to make it SLI) and a cooler system for the CPU, I've been having random BSOD crashes.

I reinstalled my OS after changing the hardware, and since then I've been having these BSOD.

The BSOD refers the cause to a driver named ntoskrnl.exe.
I've included the DMP files and a system health report on this message.

You can find my system spec on my profile.

Thank you for your help guys!

These were caused by a memory exception. Please run these two tests to verify your memory and find which driver is causing the problem.
1-Memtest.

*Download a copy of Memtest86 and burn the ISO to a CD using Iso Recorder or another ISO burning program. Memtest86+ - Advanced Memory Diagnostic Tool

*Boot from the CD, and leave it running for at least 5 or 6 passes.

Just remember, any time Memtest reports errors, it can be either bad RAM or a bad motherboard slot.

Test the sticks individually, and if you find a good one, test it in all slots.

RAM - Test with Memtest86+

2-Driver verifier

Problem- repeated issue with BSOD that is infrequent and unpredictable, was having issues before with a graphics driver giving BSOD which was caused by an ISO program (magic disc confirmed after running verifier) but over the past week I have having this BSOD with "Storport.sys" which is a recurring error which makes me wonder if this was the original cause of the other BSOD's I was receiving before.

Any help would be very appreciated as this is becoming a bit of a pain in the you know what.

It seems that your Intel RST driver has been causing problems, by accessing paged pool which wasn't allocated to it's address space (can be other reasons), and has thus caused a page fault at a IRQL Level greater than 1. This is a illegal operation since only non-paged pool is accessible here.

I've been struggling for 2 days with this BSOD of mine that happened out of the blue and has prevented me from getting the machine to boot back up in normal mode. Even had a blue screen or two in safe mode.

The only thing that I have done in recent days and have been trying to undo was re-install my Alcohol 52% program back for my iso image mounting.

I have so far ran memory and HDD diags with no errors, OEM disk repair with no errors found, restore point from before the software install ( but its still loaded), and attempted to uninstall it to only have the uninstall not find the product.

Will work on the driver verify while awaiting a reply....

Everything was fine, no new software no new hardware suddenly BSOD in the morning, and two or three more during the day.

I did
IRST drivers reinstall - did not help
Asmedia AHCI drivers reinstall - no idea if anything changed yet

All Windows updates for Win8 are installed

Edit:

I have just installed RSTe_and_AHCI_Drivers_GUI_CIM_CLI_3.8.0.1111_2013.09.26 instead of IRST_VistaWin7_8_VER3601093
I'm also thinking about updating to Win 8.1

Answer:BSOD's storport.sys

Only 117 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 150 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have a Compact Wireless-G USB Adapter

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win7/Win8/8.1 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7 and later - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7/Win8/8.1 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

E: drive only has about 1% free space; D: drive only has about 4% free space. Windows likes 15% free space in order to perform stuff "behind the scenes" without adversely affecting the system's performance. Please free up 15% on ALL hard drives (you can get away with 10% on larger drives and won't notice a large performance penalty)

MSI Afterburner (along with Riva Tuner and EVGA Precision) are known to cause BSOD's in some Windows systems (it's driver is usually RTCore64.sys). Please un-install it immediately!

If you're overclocking, please stop the overclock while we're troubleshooting. Feel free to resume the overclock once the system has been stabilized.

Please provide the link from where you obtained the IRST drivers so we can see if it's the latest version. T... Read more

Question: Storport BSOD

Newly built custom server. Both my storage drive and OS drive are on the same Channel. When the storage drive is not connected I haven't had any BSODs (could be coincidence).

I would rather not have to spend another grand and buy new drives for the SAS channels; would like to continue using SATA if we can get this fixed.

Zip file attached, you guys rock.

Answer:Storport BSOD

Also, I have swapped out all the drives and tried new ones; both OS drive and storage drives; no luck there.

Answer:Storport.sys BSOD

Your RAID drivers look like they're bugging out. If you don't use RAID (given that you only have 1 drive, I reckon you don't), you'll want to disable it in your BIOS. You also want to make sure that your drivers for your hd controller are up to date. This could be either the chipset drivers for your motherboard, or whatever controller card you have installed that your drives are connected too. Make sure firmware for your drives (both the optical and hd) are up to date.

That's all I can give for now. The crashes are identical, which means at least it's not hardware-related, and that we can give a fairly good assumption it's something involving your hd controller.

I've been struggling with a BSOD that happens while my computer is idle.

It has triggered both a HAL error and two storport.sys errors... I think it's actually hit a few more times, because I've found my computer "off" when it shouldn't be, and only an "unexpected shutdown" is recorded with no BSOD information. Have seen a few posts on here with BSOD related to storport.sys also, that don't seem to really find a cause.

EDIT---

I thought it was due to Renesas USB 3.0 drivers, but I uninstalled those and moved my external drives to different non-3.0 ports and it bluescreened again overnight. This time it was Hal.dll that bluescreened, it's been one or the other now 4 times in just a few days, always when the computer has been idle for a long time..

I installed Windows 8 fresh back in January, to get off of the preview now that full 8 is out. It ran fine and without issue until just the last few days.

I've attached the SF Diagnostic Tool logfiles.

Answer:BSOD with StorPort.sys.... possible cause?

IME Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Drivers dated from 2010 will sometimes have BSOD issues. Those from 2011 and later do not seem to have these issues.

Hi all,

Lately I'm experiencing annoying BSODs while just doing my things. It does not happen at a specific time or when I run a specific program. Sometimes it happens 2 times after another, sometimes a few days it's fine and sometimes I just get it randomly 5 times a day (like now).

It is really frustrating, I'm losing the work I done before the BSOD and it is just taking the piss pretty much.

I hope someone is able to help me here, as you are pretty much my last resort. I've tried the most common things myself already like memtest, prime95 etc etc, though it doesn't solve.

I am able to give you all the details you need to help me out, your time is much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS. These BSODs started to appear when I moved all my components to another case. I changed from casing because in my old case the temperature was really high. This one has more fans and better airflow.

Hello Everyone,

I recently purchased an Asus G53SX Notebook, and I keep getting BSOD's at least daily. Some of them refer to ndis.sys, nvlddmkm.sys, ntoskrnl.exe, tcpip.sys and Ntfs.sys. I suspect it might be some RAM modules that the store owners added to the laptop before I purchased it. So far, I upgraded the BIOS to the latest version, upgraded the graphics card drivers, checked memory for errors with the Windows utility (No errors). Most of them are KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED. Hi guys,

I've registered today at this forum and hoping to get some help on my half year journey to solve my bsod's

First let me introduce myself. I'm Chris, 31 and living in the always rainy Netherlands.

The BSOD that's coming every 24 hrs is bugging me a lot. This evening when i was busy in a 4 hour build of a Farcry 4 multi player map it BSOD'd with the irritation of all the work lost. I was THIS close to destroying my machine but with the amount of money and time invested i let it rest for an hour and cool myself down for some time.

Which takes me to this point to invest some effort to register and maybe the smart people around here could tell me what is going on with my machine. I didn't had all the logs but some of it contains the storport.sys BSOD which is the main problem

What i tried earlier is reinstalled the Intel RST drivers but with no success. (about 3 months ago)
Also changed the hdd's to different sata ports but also no success.
it's on since a fresh install of win7 and also same problem with win10.

system specs:
Asrock extreme6 X79 mobo.
I7 4930k stock speed.
32GB G-skill ddr3.
EVGA GTX 980 sc sli.
Evga supernova 1300W power supply.
Win10 pro x64.
Hooked up to 2 displays. (Iiyama B2888UHSU uhd monitor and Samsung UE65HU7500 uhd LED tv
Desktop contains 1 ssd (850 pro) and 3 hdd's. (which could be the problem i guess)

I'm desperately hoping for a solution. Saves me a lot of money on a new build lol

Thanks all in advance.

Hi robbie26 and welcome,

Firstly can you please update to Windows Service Pack 1, which will help stabalise your system and also please ensure you have all Windows updates installed

Your 3 crashes are related to:

IMAGE_NAME: storport.sys

A windows update may well fix this issue.

Also please update your Intel RST (Rapid Storage Technology) driver, which can be found here:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Default.aspx

Click on Continue underneath where it says:

Hello,

For quite some time I have been receiving random nvstor.sys and storport.sys BSOD's. I have reformatted and reinstalled Windows 7 professional 64 bit three times now and nothing has changed. I am currently using older drivers for my video card and motherboard, and the BSOD's don't seem to be occurring as regularly, but it hasn't cured the problem; it obviously lies elsewhere.

I don't know if my motherboard is going or not. The reason I say this is because my computer has some serious boot issues. For example- some days it won't pass the post screen, it will simply keep on repeating the post process by restarting, which will result in my overclocke settings reverting back to stock (at least that's what it says on the boot screen) , but when I go into the bios, my overclocke settings are set as they should be. When this happens, the only thing that seems to get my computer to boot properly is if I unplug it, therefore no power to it at all, leaving it for 5 or 10 minutes, and it virtually always boots up properly.

I am really losing my patience. I am physically handicapped, so when the computer freezes or BSOD's and doesn't restart properly, I can't restart it myself and I'm stuck looking at an idle computer screen.

Please, any help would be greatly appreciated. I will supply as much info as needed.

Thank you very much,
Cam

I see you have had Driver Verifier enabled, but only because I can see the bugcheck codes listed in the system event log when your crash was logged. However, strangely there are no crashdumps being produced, and therefore I cannot provide any solid analysis. I heard this could be an issue with Win7 SP1. You can check for the fix here. Ensure you have crashdumps by looking for .dmp files in your Windows folder. Hopefully you'll have a list of minidumps available. Also do not use any "cleaning" or "optimizing" software on your PC, as often they love to delete crashdumps.

I want to note that a system this young experiencing crashes is typically the sign of faulty hardware. You may wanna end up looking at some hardware tests as mentioned below:

RAM: Memtest86+ (Overnight)
CPU: Prime95 (Torture Test; Blend; Overnight)
HD: Seatools (Long & Short Self Tests)
GPU: MemtestCL/G80

These are available (albeit somewhat outdated) on the UBCD for bootup hardware tests.

Hello. This is my first post on here so i'm sorry if I lack any required information, just let me know what you need.

For about 2 months or so now I have been getting these random BSODs that seem to occur at any point, even when i'm not using the computer. Often I will be browsing the internet and Internet Explorer will stop responding, then the screen will freeze and go to BSOD or it will freeze then clear up for about a minute before going straight to BSOD. It should be noted that it also happens while not using Internet Explorer but more often than not thats what I'm using at the time.

Often when the Blue Screen comes up I will leave it to make a dump report and it will not do so, however on some occasions it has made the minidumps that I can read using 'BlueScreenViewer'.

The Bug check code is: 0x000000d1
Bug check string: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
Caused by driver: storport.sys
Caused by address: storport.sys+2fa5

I have browsed the forums and can't find any information relating to the exact problem I have.

Answer:Windows 7 x64 BSOD (storport.sys?)

Hi,

storport.sys may be the problem here but first get rid of sptd.sys which is also mentioned.

STPD.sys is known to cause BSODs; remove Daemon Tools, then use this SPTD installer to remove it (pick the uninstall option when you run the installer): http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/downloads

If that fails to fix it then remove Kaspersky which is a potential cause.

A few weeks ago my computer started with crashing Chrome and frezzing in games sometimes, with sound loops until I restart PC. Past week, PC frezzed every time I played games or surfing more than 5 min.
Now I even get a BSOD-s.

Temps are O.K. , in games: 65-72c CPU and GPU is never higher than 55C.
I cleaned registry, scanned with antiviruses...

With BlueScreenView i discovered that ntoskrnl.exe and storport.sys caused this few BSOD-s.
I Started DM Log Collector, he completed the process but with message that system cannot find .dmp files, so I sent to you few more files with DM Log zip included.

I made this post just to see what is with computer, is this a hardware or software failure.
I am going to completly format my HDD, maybe even Low Level Format (Not just because of this, but also because I am not the first owner of this PC and its full of unnecessary things, all in on one (system/C: ) partition ) and then Install fresh Win7.

Please, help me if you can. Thanks
P.S. Sorry for my bad English;

Answer:BSOD caused by storport.sys and ntoskrnl.exe

You are running an Acer Product ID (PID) on an ASUS board.
This makes your installation counterfeit.
Troubleshooting a counterfeit installation is useless as it is not known what has been modified to your system.
A counterfeit installation contains heavily modified code which causes the system to behave in unexpected ways.
For this reason, analyzing counterfeit systems is unreliable and most analysts won't try it.

Code:
OS Configuration: Standalone Workstation
OS Build Type: Multiprocessor Free
Registered Owner: Dejan
Registered Organization:
Product ID: 00426-OEM-8992662-00006 <-- Acer PID on ASUS board
Original Install Date: 10/10/2015, 9:05:23 PM
System Boot Time: 12/18/2015, 12:58:25 PM
I recommend to install a genuine copy of Windows.
If, after you have installed a genuine copy of Windows, you still get BSOD's we'll be happy to assist you.

Hi,

I am seeing frequent BSOD erros since last month. The error either due to SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION or BAD_POOL_HEADER.

The latest error was due to SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION because of storport.sys.

I am not able to attach .dmp file. Hence i have attached screen shots.

Please help me out to fix this issue.

Thanks.

Hi there,

I have a problem when installing Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. I boot from the DVD, the files are copied on my hard drive, then the setup loads and a BSOD appears : IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL for file storport.sys.

Here is my PC specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
ASUS P5N32-SLI Deluxe
4 gb DDR2 OCZ
2 x 250 gb HDD SATA stripping
Geforce GTS 450

Here is what I tried :
1. Use a different dvd (Windows 7 x64 Home premium) but same problem.
2. Remove 2 gb of RAM : I don't have the BSOD but the setup loads infinitely
3. Reset the BIOS settings to system defaults
4. Start the setup from OS (Win Vista x64) and start from bootable DVD
5. Delete my stripping arrays and use the HDD normally

Any idea of something new I can try?

Got this new Dell laptop for my wife last summer and started getting BSODs in a random nature. Sometimes when running applications such as Excel and often when laptop was closed (at rest). I did the Dell debug, research and downloaded supposed updated drivers and it seemed to help for a bit. Then it came back.

After the return I took the step to restore the laptop to it's original condition from Dell and then slowly reloaded applications, etc.. All seemed to be OK, but has now started again with the BSODs.

The Dell routine indicates that unknown drivers have been the culprits.

Those drivers noted are: storport.sys and smb_driver_intel.sys ...

I think those drivers are also current.

I've attached the zip file with all the pertinent information in the hopes that someone can help suggest a good and solid repair to this hiccup.

Thanks so much in advance.

Hello I just had a returning BSOD I think, caused by what seems to be storport.sys

I had BSOD problems like a week and a half ago maybe, with my graphics card which caused all of the BSOD/Lock Ups cause it was faulty. So we fixed that by buying a completely new card of new series, also on the forums here and I had no BSODs, lock ups or usual card problems.

Now just a half minute ago I had a BSOD caused by storport.sys and I was just reading an article on Wikipedia when it happend. This could be some random BSOD that will never return but, I want to make sure.

Now my biggest issue is that I did not get a dumpfile what so ever and have nooo idea what caused it. Can someone help out here? Everything is as it should be but I do not understand why I am not getting a minidump. I need help with fixing that so we can find the root issue.

EDIT: The logbook on my computer displays that it was Kernel Power issue and before you ask if I have sufficent of Watt Power for my PSU (750W and half of it barely used)

Hi,

storport.sys is the Microsoft Storage Port Driver. As we have no dump, there's not much I can analyze and tell you what went wrong and what to do. Are all of your storage related drivers up to date?

I was the one who assisted you with your previous issues, can you remember if I had you run any hard disk diagnostics?

hey all

So heres the thing, about 2 week ago, i started having BSOD, didn't do anything about it at first not giving it much though.

But now, it happens everyday, and some times up to 3,4,5 times. I've checked WhoCrash and it says its mostly

storport.sys
ntoskrnl.exe
swdumon.sys

it has to do with out of date drivers i think. I tried using driver updater such as SlimDrivers, but every time im actually downloading the drivers, my computer Crashes.

ive also tried that Windows Driver verifier but wasn't understanding it much. I don't have much knowledge when it comes to these problems.

Please help, i need my computer for work and this is really slowing me down

thank you

Hi there, I've been struggling on with this all day and got absolutely nowhere so I thought it best to ask some people who probably know what they're talking about.

I've searched high and low through forums and google and it seems this is a common problem but the range of answers are very different so it makes sense to start yet another one...

It all stemmed from last night (I dont know if it has anything to do with it) but I was attempting to watch a video and windows media player asked to install a codec (assuming it was legit as it was through windows media player) suddenly the screen went black and started up with a blue screen, ever since it's been very temperamental in whether to work or not.

There seems to be three different versions of the blue screen, all mentioning a stop error with all those 0's and such with "IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" and then mentioning "storport.sys." Another mentions "amdsata.sys" and another doesn't mention either.

I've been able to get in through safe mode several times and while in here tried different anti virus/spyware checkers but to no avail as it usually crashes after a short while.

I read your instructions to get a crash dump but since I've attempted to get back on to enable this it's obviously stopped letting me and quite frankly I'm bored and annoyed so please any help would be much appreciated!

Thanks a lot for making it this far!

as title says, thats what i got. when i run debug, it says iastor?.sys(i think), but i dont know which of these who are right. this started to happen after i installed corsair link which come with my H100i. but my H100i don't show up in corsair link either, i have to plug it in and out several times befor it gets detected, this is connected via one usb header on my mobo.(i also did a serious cleanup in my messy cable management, remapped all wires when i first had it open)! but when i installed clean windows on another disc to test, everything works fine, even corsair link and it have been showing up everytime there so far. from what i can see, this is a common issue with RSTe, but i got bsod after i uninstalled that aswell. there was an KB hotfix for storsys probs from microsoft, but when i try to run it it says it's not fr my computer..... what to do

Answer:bsod, driver_irql_not_less_or_equal, information: storport.sys

Registered on this forum just to answer you.

I have the same problem. I've applied one solution, but not enough time has passed since to know whether it helped or not.

Check out this post and the link to another post inside it.

I've removed RSTe 3.5.xxx and installed this version, confirming that I want to overwrite the previous installed driver version.

P.S. driver itself won't be uninstalled, when you remove RSTe. But it should be removed, when you overwrite it with another version.

I will post back if the version downgrade helped me, but that won't happen earlier than in 7-8 hours.

---------------------

UPDATE: Uptime is about 3 hours now, and no bsod so far I will post back once more later.
UPDATE: Uptime is about 5 hours now, and still no bsod (it used to happen every 2h with 3.5.xxxx version). I think we can say that problem is solved.

Hi all,

I'm running Windows 8.1 64-bit on my Lenovo X220. I recently had a DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL BSOD which cited storport.sys as the offending driver. I ran the dump file through a free analyzer at Instant Online Crash Analysis and it says "PROCESS_NAME: firefox.exe", which leads me to think that Firefox was related, but I don't really know.

I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on what happened.

I've attached the following files:
- generated_analysis.zip is the archive generated by the "SF Debug Tool" in the sticky,
- online_analysis.txt is the analysis of the BSOD dump generated by the website I mentioned earlier,
- windows_dump.zip contains the actual dump file, and
- report.zip contains a report generated by BlueScreenView about the dump file.

I don't do any overclocking, it's just a relatively new installation of Windows 8.1 64-bit with some miscellaneous programs installed. I Googled online and apparently storport.sys is related to hardware, so if it helps, I usually connect my laptop to an external monitor and a USB hub, and the USB hub itself is connected to a webcam, mouse, and two external HDDs. Also, recently I've been having some problems with the connection between the laptop and the battery (e.g. the laptop wouldn't boot / would instantly crash if a battery was inside / inserted during operation, so I tried a different battery and it worked).

Thanks!

Answer:BSOD due to storport.sys, dump PROCESS_NAME = firefox.exe?

In general, the process name is usually unrelated to the cause of the crash.
In extreme cases (many, many BSOD's), if I find the same process name over many BSOD's - then I look closer at what the system is doing (and how it could generate problems that may be involved).

In short, the process occurs in the user space, while BSOD's are caused by problems in the kernel space. The prevailing opinion is that user space things cannot cause BSOD's directly. But, I suspect, that they can make requests of kernel space components in improper ways - and that may cause an improperly written/corrupted kernel component to throw a BSOD (but it's just a guess on my part).

Storport.exe is a Windows driver related to the storage sub-system on your computer. This may/may not be a clue - but there's some things we have to analyze (which is done from the reports that you've uploaded).

So, here's the analysis...............

Only 43 Windows Updates installed. Most systems have 70 to 90 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

Don't worry about the specific number, it's just important that you have checked and installed any updates that were available (and didn't experience any errors).

There are many Windows Update failures in the WER section of MSINFO32. Should these failures continue, please visit the Windows Updates & Activation forum located here: Windows Updates & Activation - Windows 8 Forums

My computer is about a year old, and I've had the freeze problem from the very beginning. If I leave it idle for about 20 minutes, it'll freeze absolutely solid, with no remedy other than to hold down the power button. Even more strange, this freeze doesn't happen if I'm playing audio in windows media player (which I tested in an attempt to see exactly how long the freeze took to happen -- and it didn't.) Sometimes, I can move the mouse, but clicking does nothing, and that eventually locks up, too.

I don't know whether this is related, but it freezes frequently when I'm playing Minecraft or Torchlight 2, even with windows media player in the background. The freeze happens in a very similar way (mouse movement with no response, then losing that). Unlike the idle freeze, this actually makes it to a BSOD.

Answer:Freeze when idle/BSOD while gaming (storport.sys)

Welcome aboard.

Though storport.sys is listed as the probable cause, it cannot be the real cause at all, as it is a microsoft provided driver. So there must be some other storage related driver in your system which is causing the crashes. Let us see.

► well, there is nvstor.sys, nVidia Storage Drivers. And it is failing continuously.

Hi, I've been getting a few different BSODs for the last month or so. I've included the attachment from the diagnostic tool, but when I checked the minidump on my computer, it only had a few dumps, not nearly as much BSODs I've been experiencing.

There's also a small problem I've been experiencing with unicodes, mostly Japanese and Korean. They'll show up as squares (like the language pack isn't installed, though it is) about 75% of the time I boot up my computer. I don't think this is directly related to the BSODing, but when the languages DO show up, I've noticed the computer will crash a lot faster.

Oh, and, after the BSODs I have to disconnect my battery and my charger for a bit before I can start it up again, or else the computer will hang about a minute after start up.

Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Hello everyone,

So out of the blue the other day I started experiencing BSODs randomly. I have had this PC build for about 5 years. The only thing I changed recently was I installed a GTX 980 ti, a USB 3.0 PCIe card (Inateck PCI-E to USB 3.0 5-Port PCI Express Card and 15-Pin Power Connector) some new radiator fans, and front case fans (with a SilverStone 1-8 PWM Fan Hub.)

It will just happen randomly.

Here are my files.

Thank you VERY much in advance.

My computer has been getting slowly worse and worse and now its to the point where I can do anything. I have a intel SSD SC2CW120A3 (I think that's the model number). Usually gets really laggy when I open chrome, watch youtube videos, and when it lags it makes my whole computer studer. Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you for any help given!

Hello, I have been trying for two or three weeks to fix this problem but so far no luck, so any help is appreciated. I generally only get a BSOD when I'm playing games, but I've had a very small amount when not playing anything. I ran memtest86 7 times overnight and I got zero errors, and since everything I've looked up pointed to a driver issue I've tried updating everything I could find to update. My first thought was it is an audio issue because for the past month I often get a crackling sound from any audio playing, but every audio driver I've tried doesn't fix anything for long.

I then thought it might have been a graphics card issue so after updating and uninstalling/reinstalling the drivers I tried swapping my R9 270x out for my old amd hd 6850 and the crackling went away and I stopped crashing for 3-4 days. I tried running one of those Furmark burn tests on each of the cards and the 270x crashed every time about 3 minutes in and the 6850 went for 30 minutes fine. Since I wanted to upgrade my card anyways I got a geforce gtx 1060. For about 4-5 hours of gaming I had no problems but then crackling audio came back and so did the crashing.

For the first time last night when it actually let me update the Realtek audio drivers it sounded perfectly clear and I stopped crashing. Then when I turned it on again after work the crackling is back and so is the crashing.

Hi Drazlok,

Welcome to the 10forums

 RAM TEST

Run MemTest86+ to analyse your RAM. MemTest86+ - Test RAM - Windows 10 Forums

   Note

MemTest86+ needs to be run for at least 8 complete passes for conclusive results. Set it running before you go to bed and leave it overnight. We're looking for zero errors here. Even a single error will indicate RAM failure.

Make a photo of the result and post it.

Addition:
If errors show up you can stop the test, remove all sticks but 1 and test this single stick in each slot for 8 passes or until errors show, switch sticks and repeat.
If errors show up and you see them a lot later, no problem, the errors don't affect the test.

I never really had any problems with my computer until upgrading to Windows 10, now I am having very frequent crashes that all seem to be similar. My guess is memory corruption, but I can't figure out the cause of it.
The crashes are pretty random, they can happen when I'm playing a game or when I'm simply browsing in Chrome.

Things I have done to try an resolve the issue:
Clean Install of Windows
Installed lasted MB BIOS
Ran Driver Verifier (still running)
Configured my RAM timings and voltage to match manufacturers recommended specs.

Also I had and AMD overclocking driver installed, I removed it. So nothing should be overclocked.

Please help! Thanks

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Daemon tools, Alcohol 120% and Power Archiver Pro uses SCSI Pass Through Direct (SPTD), which is a well known cause for BSOD's.
Please remove Daemon Tools and run the SPTD pass through remover.

Uninstall Daemon ToolsDownload the SPTD standalone installer and follow these steps:
Double click the executable to open itClick on the button shown below

If the button is grayed out, like in the image, there is no more SPTD installation on your system, and you can close the window

I was listening to music and doing some reading for college when all of the sudden my computer crashed. The error code I was presented with was "KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED"
When googling the problem, I am only able to find answers relating to Windows 2000, and those answers involve this BSOD occurring upon start-up. This just randomly occurred while listening to music using VLC media player.
Here is more information about the problem.

Edit: I finally found the topic Mak posted about troubleshooting stop codes. I have not installed any thing recently, so my problem is still unresolved.

Edit#2: It turns out that windows did download updates today, but I have not restarted my computer to install these updates until after I have had this BSOD occur.

Answer:BSOD KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Mak mentions that this could be caused by "invalid memory and access violations caused by faulty drivers or hardware devices" would this point to faulty RAM?

I immediately used dm_log_collector hoping it would help resolve the issue.
I had a previous BSOD long time ago but it was different and never had it again and for that they suggested to run memtest but I haven't had the time.
Also my PC used to reboot itself but it turned out it was an issue with my mains power (it is already fixed and it hasn't happened again).

Edit: Also looks like this is one of the builds that there are no symbol files available for on the Microsoft server so I can't do anything with the dump.

Hi,

I got this error twice this week. I was just doing regular work with Visual Studio, Chrome, Spotify, Dropbox, TotalCmd running. I checked MEMORY.DMP with WinDbg on the crash today and it shows chrome.exe as the process where the error happened but I guess it could be hardware error and nothing related to Chrome.

Hey guys,

i have a lot of BSOD in the last time.

Story:
I already had windows 10 running on my old system - without any BSOD.

I upgraded some Hardware a while ago (mainboard, graphics and processor) and did a clean installation of Windows 10...
Since then i got at least 2 BSOD each day (Even while writing this thread).
I did another clean insatllation of Windows 10 a few days ago, because i thought it might could solve the problem (...).
But it didn't help anything. I still get the same amount of BSOD.

What i already tried:
- Clean installation of windows 10
- updated BIOS
- Updated all drivers
- Installed only driver (without MSI Gaming App or Killer Network Suite)
- sfc /scannow (no errors)
- memtest (no errors)

Hi everyone,
This is my first post in this forum.
I have a problem with multiple BSODs on my computer.
I tried to solve the first couple of BSODs but with no luck at all.
I then decided to reinstall Windows 10 on my computer but the BSODs kept coming.

The first one was KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (nvlddmkm.sys). Unfortunately I don't have a dump file from this crash because i forgot to configure the dump file.

I tried to reinstall my Nvidia drivers using DDU and install the latest drivers from Nvidias site.
In blue screen viewer I can see that TCPIP.sys i also mentioned.

I have also tried to run sfc /scannow and there was some problems that couldn't be fixed.
I then used the dism tool to repair it with a windows image.

After this the computer work for a day or two and it blue screen again.
This time it said KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE and i then watch in the "WhoCrashed" program and ut said the source was ntkrnlmp.exe.
On internet some people said that this was solved by removing Hyper-V switches.
So I decided to remove Hyper-V from my computer (Awful software).

It worked again for a day or two and then it crashed again with the message KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and the source was: tcpip.sys.
But blue screen viewer says the source is nvlddmkm.sys.

I'm really starting to think this is a hardware issue but I hope it's a bad driver.
I hope some i this forum can help me with this issue I've attached the Zip file as requested.

Thanks in advance and excuse me i... Read more

A few weeks ago, I started getting the BSOD. It happened not long after a windows update. I did a rollback to before the update which didn't help and I did Dell's Backup and Recovery which also didn't work. Every time I have to restart the computer, it does 2-3 BSOD on restarts and then recovers on its own. Thanks for any help!

Hi everyone.

Quite a while back, I purchased an HP Pavilion Sleekbook with Windows 8. It had problems since the day I bought it around two months ago. The shop does not accept refunds. But this laptop has been in the PC clinic around 8 times since I bought it. The problem persisted, although the laptop was formatted many times, and the network card with the problematic driver (netr28x.sys) was replaced. it's crashed many more times since I brought it back, so I got fed up and disabled the network card. I had an old wireless adapter lying around, so I connected that to the computer earlier today. It was working fine for a little while... and then yep. Bluescreen. This time the error was KMODE_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL (intelppm.sys). I've attached the files that the SF Diagnostic Tool yielded. I believe four of the five dumps are from before, caused by netr28x.sys, and the latest one is this new error.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:BSOD with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

I would be on the phone with HP right now. HP's warranty is 1 year - and Win8 came out last October - so you should have about 2 months left on your warranty.

The latest memory dump is suggestive of a hardware problem (see the Usual Causes listed here: BSOD Index ).
Although driver problems are possible with this error, your having reformatted it several times should have ruled that sort of issue out.
You must remove the wireless USB network adapter to completely rule out driver problems (as these devices tend to crash a lot). Here's my canned speech about them:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win7/Win8 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7(and I suspect with Win8) - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7/Win8 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful. (For laptops I suggest using the in-built wireless card, or the in-built wired connection)

Meanwhile, you can start with these hardware diagnostics: Hardware Diagnostics

This happened a few days ago and only once. I had a few applications open, nothing too taxing.

I've only ever had one other BSOD, months ago. I can't find where I wrote down what the previous BSOD was, but it was not the same as this most recent BSOD.

Answer:Kmode_exception_not_handled bsod

There are enough signs here that I have to wonder about this installation. Should this be a pirated copy of Windows, please be aware that we may not be able to fix it (as the hacks that were done to activate it will cause the OS to behave differently than we expect it to). If that's the case, our efforts to help may just waste your time. Secondly, the forum rules prohibit assisting with pirated software - so the topic would be closed if that is the case.

Been recently encountering BSoDs with KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED when gaming, specifically the open beta of Monster Hunter Online. Happens after around 2 hours or so. Doesn't happen with other games and has not happened before.

Attached my minidump and required information.

Thanks!

You are missing a driver, unfortunately I haven't yet been able to find out from what this driver is.

Hey guys,

i have a lot of BSOD in the last time.

My current system:

Computer name: REDHEAD
Windows version: Windows 10 , 10.0, build: 10586

The dmp files are attached.

I appreciate your help and hope we can solve this problem togther.

Hi muleee,

Welcome to the 10forums

Did you immediately started to install software after Windows was done installing?

I see many memory access violation crashes so for now I'll focus on the memory explicitly.
How many passes were completed with memtest? What memtest did you run?
Please revert back all overclocking on your system, whether you removed them in the past but resulted in nothing isn't relevant.
What is relevant is that overclocking can cause more problems on an unstable system, if not being the cause which is not what we need.

Please fill in your system specsPlease follow this tutorial and download the tool. The tool will give you detailed information about your system specs, please fill in your system specs more completely including PSU, cooling and other used stuff like mouse, keyboard, monitor, case, etc.

Hello,

I really need help...
I have Vista x64, and I have random crash with the code 1E. I checked msconfig to deactivate/remove entries which were not necessary but I can't say now if that worked or no... Maybe if I don't have any crash more until tonight, that would mean I managed to deactivate the failing component!

I put the debug log in attachment, made with DebugWiz.
It says that "ntkrnlmp.exe" would be responsible for that crash... Wow! System component...

The 2nd, 3rd and 4th parameters are strange : 0, 8 & 0!!
Does anyone have a suggestion?
Many thanks

Answer:BSoD - KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

NTKRNLMP.EXE is the on-disk image containing the OS kernel and Executive. It is very common for memory corruption issues to manifest themselves as crashes in the functions of that module. That doesn't necessarily mean the underlying fault is a bug in the kernel. In fact, it almost never means that

This minidump is not going to directly help you pinpoint the cause, but you could start bu updating the oldest drivers in that list. For example:

fffffa60`0357f000 fffffa60`0358d000 ElbyCDFL ElbyCDFL.sys Thu Dec 14 22:22:27 2006 (4581C093)
fffffa60`039fa000 fffffa60`039fd600 copperhd copperhd.sys Wed May 24 05:51:13 2006 (4473D831)

Some are relatively new but you might be able to do without them while you're troubleshooting:

fffffa60`00f32000 fffffa60`00fa1680 mfehidk mfehidk.sys Fri Sep 19 01:06:00 2008 (48D2DED8)
fffffa60`06363000 fffffa60`0636e500 VBoxUSBMon VBoxUSBMon.sys Mon Feb 16 18:26:18 2009 (4999A1BA)
fffffa60`0636f000 fffffa60`06391540 VBoxDrv VBoxDrv.sys Mon Feb 16 18:26:11 2009 (4999A1B3)

And so on... then you check the next dump - if there is one - to see the next crash pattern.

Hi there forum. Decided it's time to start dealing with the Bsod's and lockups.
My bsod issues are admittedly not as bad as others, I get them quite rarely. I experience lockups more often and cannot justify what causes them.
The computer and hardware I use is about a year old. I have never over-clocked or re-installed OS, I don't run alot of heavy applications. Mainly just internet browsing, photoshop, illustrator, quite a bit of video games.. etcetc.

OS is Windows 7 Home Premium x64
Not sure if OEM or Full retail, a shop put the system together, but I have the install disk etc.

Thanks for your time.

Read more

Answer:Kmode_exception_not_handled bsod

1 Windows Update installed. Most 8.1 systems have 26 or more. Please visit Windows Update and get ALL available updates (it may take several trips to get them all).

You have a Broadcom 802.11abgn Wireless SDIO Adapter:

I do not recommend using wireless USB network devices. Especially in Win7/Win8 systems.
These wireless USB devices have many issues with Win7(and I suspect with Win8) - using Vista drivers with them is almost sure to cause a BSOD.
Should you want to keep using these devices, be sure to have Win7/Win8 drivers - DO NOT use Vista drivers!!!
An installable wireless PCI/PCIe card that's plugged into your motherboard is much more robust, reliable, and powerful.

SSD's were temperamental when they first came out, but their reliability has improved greatly over the last year or two. There are 2 things that MUST be checked on systems with BSOD's and SSD's:

1) That the SSD firmware is the latest available for the SSD
2) That the storage controller drivers on the motherboard are the most recent. They must date from late 2012 or later. This is ALL controllers, not just the one that the SSD is attached to.

My biggest suspicion is AhnRghNt.sys - AhnLab Common Registry Hook Driver (appears to be part of a security program). Please uninstall it to see if the BSOD's stop (be sure to enable Windows Defender and the Windows Firewall while testings without the AhnLab program).

Hi,

We have two consistent bug checks:
KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED (1e)

This indicates that a kernel-mode program generated an exception which the error handler did not catch.

BugCheck 1E, {ffffffffc0000005, fffff800044ff150, 0, ffffffffffffffff}

^^ 0xc0000005 = access violation.

hey everyone,

I happen to get this BSOD after trying to access certain folders in my data drive. (D: Drive)
I ran CheckDisk because I found it was taking a very long time to access these files. I ran it and it corrected the errors. All my other hard drives had no errors.
Now i'm getting this KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED(iaStorA.sys) blue screen of death and it has happened twice.

FYI
Bios up to date, every driver is up to date, very windows update is on it. I am using an SSD as my C: drive and I only strictly use it for Windows 8, no other data besides that.

If any more information needed, let me know. Thanks in advance

Please read the instructions here: Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) Posting Instructions

There is a lot more information available that I need to see that will be contained in the zip file you will upload after running DM_Log_collector.

Also, all thart was in the zip file was a shortcut, not the actual dump file itself. DM_Log_collector will handle all that for you.

My best advise is to return it. Anything we advise might void the warranty.

Hi, windows ten crashes once a day after the last major update, the BSOD indicates: KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED

Everything I've looked at so far has indicated driver errors but I can't work out which ones. I'm at a loss I hope someone can advise me of what the dump files mean and help me out.

Here are some specs: Operating System: Windows 10 Pro 64-bit CPU: Intel Core i7 4790K @ 4.00GHz RAM: 32,0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 999MHz (9-11-11-31) Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. Z97-DELUXE (SOCKET 1150)
Graphics: 3071MB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (EVGA)

Attached to the post you can find the dump files.
Thanks.

Please remove / disable items from the startup in taskmanager
These programs could interfere with the boot process giving you trouble and increase the boot time.

Please uninstall Bitdefender, use Windows Defender as alternative and let me know how it goes

Hi Bleeping,

For the past few weeks, I have been receiving BSOD's, which appear to be in relation to stressing the network card when downloading or even browing for periods of time.

I have done the usual -

SFC/ scannow
memtest
driver updates
checked windows updates and rolled back several "just in case"

I am now stuck!

Subsequently, I am uploading SysnativeFileCollectionApp.zip and perfmonreport.zip.

Can someone please tale a look and see if they can spot anything.

Here's the rundown -

OS - Windows 2008 R2 Sp1 (build 7601)
x64
Installed full retail from scratch
Hardware in a HP N40L, about 2 years old.

CPU = AMD Turon II NEO (dual core)
GRaphics card - onboard Mobility Radeon HD 4200

Help appreciated!

Having BSOD's kmode_exception_not_handled athw8x.sys PITB on a new system build which seems to be a common one everyone is having!!

Thank you!

Answer:BSOD's kmode_exception_not_handled athw8x.sys

Took a quick peek at the athw8x.sys logs and it appears that you are trying to install an Aetheros wireless adapter driver (and it failed). Is this a PCI add-on wireless card that you are trying to use on a desktop?
