Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Question: Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

The issue is specific to Office 2016 on Win 10 (Office 2016 on Win 7, no problem, Office 2010 on Win 10, no problem). Certain documents (reported by a user who receives documents with Japanese text, haven't seen it happen with others) have the layout messed up, a 2 page Word doc gets spread over 4 pages, and I've been given some sample powerpoint slides which have text overflowing the end of the slide.

Word doc was originally in Legacy 2003 format, I did manage to make this particular document display correctly by saving it in .docx format, then enabling compatibility changes via vba, setting to 2010 compatibility and enabling "Use printer metrics to lay out document" based on what I read here: BUG!! Word 2016 fails to print margins correctly / messes - Microsoft Community

The other sample file I received was a .pptx - haven't been able to find corresponding compatibility options in Powerpoint.

Wouldn't be quite so annoying if they didn't both display perfectly in Windows 7.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Office Document layout/margins overflow on Office 2016 + Win 10

Turns out it was some sort of font substitution issue. I noticed the fonts in Word/Powerpoint weren't present in the Windows font dir. Copied them over from another Win 7 machine, suddenly everything looks fine.

Not sure why Office 2010 did a better job of it than 2016, I couldn't really pick if there was a difference in the Japanese characters before and after the font, only that the page layout was stuffed...

Upon starting a new document, I entered the margins prior to typing. I entered the Title of the document and centered it horizontally 1.0" from top. I do my work using Print Layout and when I did this particular one, the title is at the top edge with no space even though the top margin is set at 1.0". Then when I viewed it by going to the Print mode, the margin is 2.0", and the bar at the bottom shows the amount of the "line" at 1.5". So I've got all these different top margins and the one I formatted my document with doesn't even show up in any view. White space is checked, I have no columns and rows setup, I deleted the title and typed it again and it still shows the different margins. I have spent over 1.5 hours today looking for the problem and doing research online. You're my last hope. Can you help me so that I'll know what to do when it happens again? Thank you

Answer:Solved: Different Margins on Document in Office Starter 2010

Drag the cursor to the top edge of the white paper, and when it turns into a double arrow, double click.

Hi.
I upgraded the Microsoft Office past weekend, now I get a error message when I open Office Word 2016 document "Word was unable to read the document"

Any ideas what to do?

Thank you

Answer:Office Word 2016 document

Hello,

I've moved your question to the Business Applications forum since those for any of the various office suites fall under that category.

Is your issue occurring only for a specific single file, or a few files, or are you getting it no matter what Word document you try to open?

We currently use Office 2007 and Office 2010 on our about 20 workstations. I'm looking to move to MS office 365 for hosted exchange. I found out that as of the first of this year, Microsoft no longer support Outlook 2007 or 2010 for hosted exchange. It seems to be working just fine so far at another site I'm involved with. The issue is that if you ever contact support, they will blame the version of Outlook you're on. So, I'm looking at options for upgrading.

Do you guys that are on office 365 for email using the premium version that includes the office subscription or buy Office 2016?

For the most part, we just need outlook, word and excel. We do have 6 people that will need powerpoint also.

Just looking for a recommendation from you guys on what makes the most sense.

Thanks!

Are there any differences between office 365 home and office 2016 pro when you compared their installations of word, excel, power point and publisher?
For example, is Word from O365 the same as Word in Office 2016? Or does one have more options/features than the other?

Hi,

Before installing Office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, my username to logon to my laptop, was "AJ ANNING" and a specific pAasswAord. Now my username does not show up at logon. "JAMES ANNING" is what shows up, and the username is now my email "[email protected]" and the password is different. Going to user accounts in control panel the only user is "[email protected]". The user "AJ ANNING" is not there.
Also, I can no longer access 3 of my network drives.
Please advise,

Answer:Installing office 365 (office 2016) and onedrive, PC username replaced

So even though "the password is different" you are still able to log onto the computer? I installed Office 365 on a new Notebook on Thursday and none of the log-in for the computer changed. As for the Networked drives, you may need to use File Explorer to Disconnect the drives then Map them again [I've had to a couple of times in the past].

Hi Folks,

The title of the thread says it all really.

I have legitimate copy of Microsoft Office 2007 Ultimate on my PC. I have just bought a copy of Office 2016 Professional Plus through the HUP.

I haven't installed Office 2016 yet - I use Office 2010 at work and find using Custom Animations in PowerPoint tricky compared to Office 2007.

I'd like to install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 until I have tried Office 2016 to see if the Custom Animations in PP are easier than the 2010 version before switching completely.

My question is, can I install Office 2016 alongside Office 2007 without conflicts - switching between versions without a problem or will installing Office 2016 screw Office 2007 or worse FUBAR both Office installations or my PC.

Any help gratefully received.

Cheers,

Zaph

Office 2016 Installation Routine Deleting Older Stand-alone Apps

I can't say I wasn't warned. I was part way through installing Microsoft Office 2016 on my primary workstation when I got a message that said, "Stop, you should wait to install Office 2016." The error message went on to say that if I decided to continue anyway, my copy of Microsoft Visio Standard 2013 would be removed. Since I had the original disk from when I purchased the software, I went ahead. Bad move. It turns out that when Microsoft says that Visio 2013 won't work with Office 2016, it means it won't even have the chance to work. Any attempt to reinstall the software will be thwarted. The fact that you paid for the software is beside the point. You're basically out of luck. When I went to the Microsoft community forums, which is where Microsoft handles much of its tech support, I discovered that I wasn't alone. Apparently hundreds of people who'd purchased stand-alone Microsoft Office products were affected, and they weren't happy about it.

Furthermore, the problem extended far beyond Visio. Users with Microsoft Project, Publisher, Access, InfoPath and SharePoint Designer were also affected. Likewise, Microsoft customers who purchased Office Apps that are normally part of Office suites but may have been purchased separately, such as Outlook 2013, were also affected.

Answer:Migrating Outlook from Office 2013 to Office 2016

You didn't say what types of accounts they are, but mostly likely there isn't a way, unless there is a third-party tool or these are Exchange accounts.

Since upgrading my main desktop to Windows 10, I began having trouble with my Office 2013 installation. I would get the "swirling circle" and the "application has stopped responding" error messages very frequently. I was able to buy the Office 2016 suite for $10 through my employer (Microsoft HUP) and since upgrading the application, I have not seen the error. Of course, I've only had Office 2016 on my PC for one day, so I'll keep checking to see if the problem returns. Has anyone else had issues with Office 2013 and Win10? Thanks!

Answer:Office 2013 issues, upgraded to Office 2016...

In fact Office is working nicely for me in Windows 10. I had PCs with Office 2007 and even with the old Office 2003 and I have not yet had complaints about crashes.

Microsoft offers a FixIt tool, which allows you to do a clean uninstall of the Office 2013 files so that you can afterwards create a clean Office installation again. As an additional ressort, there even is a description of how to manually uninstall Office 2013. I did not have to test it, but that might have helped you as well.

Hi there

I think this comment is allowed - there is an NDA but I think this is OK. The latest update installs OFFICE 2016 just fine and works OK. Office 2010 is left untouched so you can run BOTH concurrently.

OUTLOOK 2016 though uses the same data file as Outlook 2010 so SEND from outlook 2010 hoses up with "Cant access Outlook data file".

However once you've sent the email with Outlook 2016 you can see it in the SENT folder of both Outlook 2010 and 2016 so using Outlook 2016 during the preview won't cause carnage to your existing office outlook.

So far very impressed -- FORGET OFFICE 2013 completely. 2016 is STREETS better and you can get rid of that hideous over white theme too. NDA so can't post image.

Note I'm using x-64 for both Office 2010 and 2016.

If you want to try the Links were open this morning -- this could have been an error because they might close again soon.
So far so good -- note some people get activation message unless they have Office 365 subscription --I don't have and didn't seem to get that message.

Am using Windows 10 x-64 Enterprise as the OS I'm testing this on --running on a REAL machine, build 9926.

Cheers

If you wish to carry out a a complete repair of your Office 2016 or Office 365 installation on your Windows 10 PC, you can choose to undertake an Online Repair.
Quick Repair runs faster but only detects and replaces corrupted files. Online Repair takes longer, but does an uninstall and a complete repair.
To carry out an Online Repair, open Control Panel > Programs & Features. Here right-click on Office installation and select Change. You will see the following box.
Select Online Repair and let setup do its work. This post offers additional options on how to Repair Office & Uninstall individual Microsoft Office programs, along with help of switches.

Hallo everyone,

Since yesterday, I get an error in Word: "there are too many edits in the document. This operation will be incomplete. Save your work."

I've read on the internet something about the cache with temporary files but the cache is as good as empty. I also have 773 GB of free disk space (C-drive). It is a new laptop.

I am currently working on my final project for highschool. The error appears when I try to past an image from internet.

Can you guys help me with this? It's very frustrating.

Answer:Errorin office 2016: "there are too many edits in the document."

Try copying the contents of the original document and paste that into a new document.

If you save versions - don't ... that might cause this kind of error

Turn off Track changes
Turn off track changes - Word 2013
Turn Track Changes on or off - Word 2007

Here's a fairly good explanation of Word & Track changes that covers a few versions

Hi all

I am using Windows XP and office 2003. I am using Microsoft Office Picture Manager to view tif files.

PROBLEM:

1. I open a tif file.
2. I make an annotation change eg: Use the hightlighting tool to hightlight some text. Fine, no problem!
3. I save the document.
4. I close the document and try reopening it:

I get this error:

"The file selected is not a valid Microsoft Document Imaging file"

I recreated my Windows XP profile and this resolved the problem

That was two weeks ago........now the problem is back!

Any ideas?

I have Office 2010 Standard Open License Version installed on 7 XP Pro machines. We discovered, when trying to open a .tif file, that Document Imaging has been removed from Office 2010. I found and followed instructions in KB982760 from the MS web site. I got lots of parts of Office 2007, including Word, but still no Document Imaging. I tried going through Add/Remove Programs to add the feature; still no luck. Has anyone been successful getting Document Imaging from a previous version of Office to run under 2010?

I am wondering if anyone knows how to customize the "Open Office Document" program in Office 2000... this is the small program that archives shortcuts and has a tool bar on the left hand side with options that include : Web folders, Favorites, Desktop, Personal and History. I want to customize the "Look In:" tool bar...

Thanks,

Answer:Office 2000: Open Office Document Shortcut

I can't find a single way to change that setting. So, here's what I'd do.

Go to your (default) folder in Windows Explorer. Right-click it and hit Create Shortcut. Then, right-click the shortcut and hit Properties. Hit Change Icon. Give it the Open Office Document icon and also rename it to Open Office Document.

Copy or cut the shortcut.

Go to C:\windows\start menu and delete the old Open Office Document Shortcut and paste the new one in there.

I bought my Office 365 for cheap in college. It is registered to me under a college email that I no longer can access.
(this is a problem because I used that account to sign up for Bing Ads and the customer support is always messing with me to prove it is my account, hard to do when you cannot access the old email, it is a pain in the rear)
Anyway, if I buy 365 again and register it under a new email, will I lose access to all the storage I have in my school account, or will that remain. Can the accounts be synced? (the on-screen prompts imply they can be synced, but I don't trust MS enough to not verify that this is true)

I assume if I just renew it under the now-defunct email address nothing will change. Except I will be out $69 for a 1 year subscription.

What if I just buy Office 2016 for $71 and keep it for several years.
(if these guys are for real, https://www.istarsoftware.com/112-microsoft-office-2016)

Is there a difference for my purposes? I use MS Word, Excel and Outlook daily.
But I use them at the novice to lower average level user level.

Do you think Office 2016, that will last for several years and is cheaper, will be OK?

I use Outlook to access various emails and I do some very simple spread sheet manipulations with Excel.

To be honest, if it weren't for Outlook I would probably not buy it at all. I like the email client. Otherwise Open Office (I think it is called) is more than sufficient I would think.

Hi there

It looks like that a Student and Teacher edition of Office 2016 will be available at around 90 GBP - 105 EUR while an Office 365 subscription will be around 60 GBP - 73 EUR for 1 year. Since the Student edition will work on 3 machines it seems to me the subscription model is bad value compared with Office 2016.

Now there might be a caveat -- not sure if OUTLOOK 2016 is included with Student and Teacher --we'll have to wait and see.

There *Might* also be an Upgrade price from Office 2010 / 2013 too.

No.

While possible it is not recommended to install multiple versions of Office on the same computer. But they both must be the same bits. The only way this could be done is to install one on a virtual machine.

According to all sources that I could find on-line, it appears that rules are part of pst file.

However, this does not happening in my case.

I use outlook 2016 (part of MS office 2016) and have several accounts linked with this ? From my ISP (POP), Hotmail, yahoo, Gmail. I have rules only for account from my ISP.

Recently I deleted my Hotmail account, removed it from my outlook, deleted associated ost file. Then I had second thought and re-activated this hotmal account the following day. Added this to my outlook. To my surprise all rules vanished. Not a single rule remained. I did NOT have any rules setup for Hotmail account. Even column details for message folders (part of setting) got changed.

I decided to check further. Copied my pst files to another computer which had same version of outlook installed and has exactly the same setup.

Now I added some rules on my 1st computer. Checked the 2nd computer. The same rule appeared there. That means pst file does not contain rules.

So, Where are they?

Hope someone can help me. I am lost!!
Thanks

Hi there!

Well, after reseting the PC to factory settings and reinstalled my drivers, I'm encountering a nasty problem... I?m just unable to install office 2016 in Windows 10, just when it's about to finish, stops, reverts all and says there was an error installing the suite...

I could install this in build 1511, no problems, but here this happens... I tried compatibility modes, using the office cleaning tool, but no avail, I even have all the VC runtimes installed... I'm tryinto install 64 bit version.

Please guys, any advice on this? I really need office for doing my job!

Thanks in advance

Answer:Unable to install Office 2016 Professional Plus 2016 in W10 1607

Try installing 32bit option - you really do not need 64bit unless doing some mega powerful stuff.

I have a printer that is able to print all the way to the edges of the page so i like to change the page margins to 5mm. The problem is that every time a start a new document in Office XP the page margins are reset back to the original defaults so I need to change them again. Is there a way to change the default margins to my own sizes?

Answer:Changing default page margins in Office XP

Page setup/margins and set from there, but don't click on the "OK" button, click the "Default" button, they will then stay to that size until you change them again. j.

I have been able to set a default font for Open Office Writer but not new default margins. When I log off and then log on again the margins are returned to.79 on all sides again, not what I want for the default margins.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Solved: Open Office - Default Margins

I read that you need to make the changes, then save the changed doc as a template, then set that template as the default.

Straightforward instructions here.

I've been trying to prevent the OOo Writer Headers from dropping my text body's margins. Anybody know how to set the header to occupy roughly the same space as it would in MS Word 2007?

I know I can do it by messing around with the ruler but I find it to be too much eye-balling; I want to be able to adjust via some kind of prompt box or something, just as long as it adjusts it more accurately than simple hand-eye coordination.

I need to see Office Xp's original Disc Layout. Does anyone know where I can find that, I'm currently searching for the info.
In my office a long time ago a now gone tech mirrored our OfficeXP disc to the network, since then the disc has been lost but not the networked files. Since we have a site license and at that time they were probably installing and reinstalling left and right fine. However they added many many non needed directory and files to the install. My current boss wants a copy on CD, the folder is 900+ MB, I don't know what needs to go and what needs to stay, I've already found SP1 at 200+ MB with IE5 stuck in there but I don't know about the other directories.

With my continuing efforts to assist my brother in tailoring his new ThinkPad (X1 Yoga) laptop, I've recently discovered an unexpected problem relating to Microsoft Office, and specifically (at this point), with Word. As indicated in this post's title, his laptop came with Office 2016? pre-installed. Subsequently, Office 2010? was installed by his I/T staff to eliminate the extra expense of leasing (via Office 365) or purchasing/activating the resident Office 2016 code. But Windows seems determined to make using Office 2010 unnecessarily difficult.

Specifically, regarding Word 2010, with .docx associated with this 2010 version, whenever one clicks on a .docx document, Windows pops up a message stating something like ? this is a rough paraphrase; I can't recall the exact wording ? "This application cannot run on your PC. Please go to the Microsoft store to find an application that will work with this file." However, .docx files open easily from within Word 2010.

Being curious, I'm all for understanding the how's, why's and wherefor's of this seeming impediment, but I don't want to unduly burden any readers/respondents with an explanation. I'd be happy just to learn how to correct this situation; i.e., to be able to click on a .docx file and have it open within Word 2010.

Perhaps it's necessary to uninstall Office 2016. It might be preferable to find another solution, in the event my brother may (at some point) want to go ahead and start using Office 2016. ... Read more

Answer:Pre-Installed Office 2016 "Fighting With" Post-Installed Office 2010

Is the Office 2010 32 bit, like most PCs at that time ? Office 2016 and Office 2010 can run side-by-side only if the bit versions match; ie, both 32 or 64 bit.

Also, if you open a 2010 Word in 2016 Word, there should be a 'compatibility mode' in the document title bar to preserve the layout.

Answer:office.org document to office xp

You can't, Microsoft generally can't be bothered to open other suppliers document formats. You need to save as a word document in Openoffice for it to be usable by Office.

Hi all, for what ever reason, when I am sent a MS document, open it, then go to print it, it ends up in landscape instead of portrait. I have to manually go in and change the layout to portrait before I print. Is there a way to change it to permanently set it to portrait. It did not do any of this before the last office update. Any suggestions.

Answer:office 2007 page layout

Hi bassfisher6522,

To solve this, you need to make changes to your 'Normal.dotm' template. Open Word and click the Office button. Select 'Open' and under 'Favorite Links' in the left hand panel click 'Templates'. Click on 'Normal.dotm' to open it. Next, click the Office button again and highlight 'Print'. In the options that appear, select 'Print Preview'. On this page, click 'Orientation' and set it to 'Portrait'. Close the 'Print Preview' screen. Again, click the Office button and this time click 'Save' to save the new 'Normal.dotm' template. Incidentally, you can create a number of templates to use with different default configurations such as paper orientation, font size, margins, ink colour, but the default template that opens automatically is 'Normal.dotm'.

How do I change the default layout option of 'Layout this document as if it was created in Office 2007' to 'Layout this document as if it was created in Office 2003'
At the moment, this only applies to the current document but I want it to happen by default everytime I open up Word and without saving the document.

I want to do this because I want to revert back to the classic moving an image where only the outline is shown when moving the image. Look at this video: Video - TinyPic - Free Image Hosting, Photo Sharing & Video Hosting

Any ideas on how to do either of these things?

Answer:Change the default Office 2007 layout?

I understand what you are trying to do. But unfortunately it applies only to this document. I know of no other setting where you can do that permanently.

what my prob is, is that in powerpoint 2010, when writing, when text in the same sentence appears on the next line, it does not start in the same position as were the start of the paragrath appears. it is like as so I have put some spaces in front.
Is there any way to correct this and get all text to start to appear at the same position on a new line rather than having each new line in the same paragraph appear a few spaces after where the first word appears?

Hey guys
I'm trying to download Office 2016 preview. When I go to the download links it redirects me to a page to sign in to a personal Microsoft account. As i understand it you need a corporate O365 subscription to get the preview, which I have access to through my school. I just can't get it to authenticate with O365 business/education instead of the personal MS account. I don't have a personal O365 subscription either.

I have Office 2003 and tried downloading and running 2016. It did the download as expected and put icons down in the task bar. When I clicked on the Excel tab, it said it would activate it if I put in my email address and phone number. The alternative was to enter the Product Key. Everything acted, again, as if all was well and then it said it had stopped running and I should shut it down. Repeated tries gave me the same results. Trying any other component (Word, Powerpoint, etc.) also caused an immediate crash. FWIW, my first attempts to use it were to bring up previous files made in the 2003 version. This install was done through a web site and was part of a group offer. Any thoughts? Was I supposed to uninstall the 2003 version first? There weren't any instructions.
I uninstalled it for now.

First time post here, hope I follow all the rules.

Looking to acquire MS Office 2016 Professional. I have 4 computers, 3 tablets, 3 phones in the house. I have read different things about buying the software vs subscribing in terms of how many devices the software could be installed on. 2 computers use Windows 7, 1 uses Windows 8.1 and 1 uses Windows 10. Seeking advice/referrals on the best/most cost effective way to get MS Office on at least all the computers. All computers currently use MS Office 2007. Thanks.

Answer:Best way to get Office 2016

i would subscribe to put a standalone version of office on all those machines would be expensive

Assuming and average price of 120 for Office Home & Student
4 computers = 480 and does not include a tablet at that price

the subscription service at 80 per year and you can add to PCs and tablets upto 5 devices - so thats 6years to get a saving - And you are likely to change machines in that time

Also with the subscription you get the FULL version and all products (outlook, publisher - which would cost 250 )

unless you can find a multi-license version to run on 3 or more PCs
then the subscription maybe the way to go.

Rant first, tips below.Bought a 310-15ABR for my daughter and paid for Office 2016 Student & Home (not worthless 365) with the idea that since it's a full Office 2016, others could use machine. We created a MS account for her when initializing Win 10 and she created password.Days later, when she first tried to use Word, she was prompted for an Activation Key.While annoying for something that should have been 'activated' when I bought it, sounds simple enough. Where's the card with Product Key or instructions to get it ?After searching everywhere for card or something with key, gave up and called Lenovo Support. Big mistake.Support language barrier is daunting. Have to phonetically spell out everything - "Three One Zero Dash One Five Alpha Baker Romeo..." - and then listen to them repeat it back.Support did a LetMeIn/Rescue123 remote control install which installed itself as a hidden Win Service. Then proceeded to fumble around for an hour (mouse around, [Run], type chars, bksp over some chars, retype, close [Run], mouse around, launch MSPaint (?!), close Paint, talk to colleague, [Run], type chars, bksp over chars, repeat....).They finally installed what appeared to be a couple of MS updates and then WITHOUT WARNING (they were silent on phone) rebooted machine. Great. Daughter no longer around to log back in.Luckily I had created an additional local user Admin login and could get back in.Despite my pleas that we were no longer logged in as the primary user, Support had ... 1. The traditional PowerPoint metamorphoses into multifunctional storytelling data presentation.

Had I not experienced this myself, I would not believe it.

I upgraded my monitor from 23" 1080p to 27" 1440p, and Office can't handle it. Corrupted toolbars and random vertical black bars all over text in Outlook, Word, and Excel. I don't know if it's an issue with previous Windows versions but apparently it's been a known issue with Office 2016 on Windows 10 ever since it was released.

Funnily enough, Office 2016 on macOS does not suffer from these issues.

I am thoroughly unimpressed with Redmond for this. 1440p isn't bleeding edge technology.

Has anyone come across this issue and found a workaround that does not involve changing desktop resolution?

Curious if anyone else has seen this; Google, so far, hasn't been any help. I've repaired Office, this still crops up occasionally. When it does, there is nothing you can do, save close the file. If you try to save it, even your options for saving it are missing.

Image below. Basically, all icons on the main tool bar and the quicklaunch toolbar are missing. If you mouse over them, they will not reappear, but if you click on something up there, it will take effect. Problem is, you can't see what you are clicking on. I can't recreate it, and I can't narrow down what causes it; it's been random with about 4 people here, myself included. When I re-opened the file I was working on when this happened, it was fine, and the problem did not re-occur.

Thanks,

v

Answer:cannot see microsoft office 2016

Hi geordiejohn. Welcome to the TenForums @geordiejohn

When you say you installed it, did you get a retail version from a store with a license card, did download from MS and install or did you get Office 365 from MS?

Depending on the version of windows 10 you are on, V1607, Control Panel, Programs, or V1703, Settings, Apps are the various programs listed? (Word, Excel, Powerpoint)

I currently have a licence for Office 2010 for 3 PCs installed on 3 PCs.

I want to retire Office 2010 on my main desktop PC and use Office 2016 instead for which I've bough a cheap single PC licence. I then want to use the spare Office 2010 licence on a fourth PC (but only 3 will be using Office 2010).

What's the best way to install Office 2016 to keep all of my email settings? I'm assuming I should install Office 2016 in parallel with Office 2010 so the new Office 2016 installation picks up my email settings, then uninstall Office 2010 to free up 1 licence. Is this correct or is there a better way?

If I'm not in the right forum please let me know. I have an HP Stream notebook 8.1. I got it not knowing that there wasn't much room on the harddrive. I have Onedrive cloud service through Microsoft office 2016/365. I don't use any of the Microsoft office progams, except for word and onedrive. I was wondering if there was a way to individually uninstall the programs I don't use or move all of it to onedrive to get it off my hard drive, as that seems to be whats taking up most of my space.

Thanks!

Answer:Microsoft office 2016/365

Hi cstull1217 Microsoft Office allows you to uninstall components separately. To do so, simply go in the Control Panel and uninstall Microsoft Office. It'll ask you if you want to uninstall Office, repair the installation, modify it, etc. Select the option to modify Office, and opt-out the ones you don't need before proceeding.https://support.office.com/en-us/article/Install-or-remove-individual-Office-2010-programs-and-components-aeb80df5-326c-4afc-8064-bd195f560753

Desktop Computer running Windows 10, I'm currently using Microsoft Office 2007, and use Outlook for my emails.
I've recently got Office 2016 on DVD, can I just install 2016 over the top of 2007 ?, or am I better saving all my contacts/ emails and uninstall 2007 first. Thanks

Answer:Best Way To Install Office 2016

There have been considerable compatibility isues with Office 2016 and Microsoft Exchange 2007, but I have no personal knowledge of any problems installing over Office 2007.
Your suggestion of backing up contact details (and emails, as you use Outlook) and then running a clean install of Office 2016 might just be the safest route in the circumstances. You can then import your contacts and emails.

We are wanting to up-grade our current Office suite Office 2003 to either Office 2010 or Office 2013.  Our PC's are running Windows 7

I would just like to know what peoples opinions and advice is on this?

Answer:Up-grade from Office 2003 to Office 2010 or Office 2013

I can't speak to Office 2013, but I've done numerous upgrades to Office through 2010.  When you install the new version, you have the option to keep the old version or just replace it.  Starting with Office 2007 the familiar menu bar has been replaced with the ribbons which take a lot of getting used to for folks used to older versions.  There's a little program called UbitMenu that will add most of the menu bar functions back in the 2007 and 2010 versions that a lot of folks find helpful.  If you do opt to have two different versions installed at the same time, what happens is that when you switch from one to the other, it goes through a juggling act that takes a minute or so.  It's a bit of a pain, but if you need it, it could be a convenience.

Good luck.

Hey Guys,

I have an annoying issue with Office 2013 for one user. On her Dell XT3, she cannot get a drop down menu when she goes to Page Layout, for Margins, Orientation, and Size. It freezes the machine, but doesn't crash it.

She previously had 2010, and I figured the upgrade to 2013 would clear up the trick, but no dice. I ran a repair and system updates, but no dice. I logged her profile into another machine and it works fine. This is in Excel and Word, as I originally thought it was just an excel problem, but alas it is Office. This is a brand new install, same one I used for everyone and no one has ever had this issue. Google wasn't much help, so here I am.

I've attached a screen shot to be more specific, thanks guys, hope you can help me out, thanks!

Answer:Microsoft Office 2013 Error - No Dropdown On Page Layout Tabs

From your description of the problem it does seem that this might be a computer hardware problem & not an Office software issue.
How much RAM is there, is the hard drive nearly full, has the hard drive been defragmented recently (don't defrag SDD's though).

I am using Windows 10 Pro Insider Preview Build 14295 on the slow ring.

I have purchased Office 2016 from Microsoft online through my education account and they have provided me a key to activate Office.

When I finish installing Office 2016, I get this image: http://i.imgur.com/zzzmjEX.png
I am under the impression that the center image should be showing something else, other than a windows into my desktop wallpaper

When I enter my product key, I get this error: http://i.imgur.com/Jvba6E7.png

If I click repair now, Word restarts and I am presented with this: http://i.imgur.com/osLfSFq.png

Clicking repair now again, Word shuts off. If I click on a Word doc I am presented with: http://i.imgur.com/y4NKsyS.png

And if I click Accept: http://i.imgur.com/YB1Brmv.png

What is going on? What can I do?

Thank you

Answer:Office 2016 Activation Failed

None of those images even show when I click on them. Maybe a person has to be 'logged in' to imgur to see them. Just use focussed window screen shots and upload them.

Just upgraded to Office 365 2016. All OK and very quick.
Have noticed though that while version 2013 was installed to Program Files (64bit) this upgrade has installed to Program Files (x86) which means it's a 32bit application.
Version 2013 was removed by the upgrade.
Wondered if anyone knows why, is 64bit not yet available, which I find strange.
Grateful for any help.

Answer:Office 2016 installed but is now 32bit

Forgot to state - PC is Windows 10 x64

Good day all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but after I installed Office 2016 Pro, I noticed that it immediately pooped all of the Office apps onto my PC including ones that I really don't need. There's no custom option to select the ones you want and the ones you don't (unlike Office 2013).
I read that it's apparently intended to do so and Microsoft actually has called it a technology (Click To Run Technology).

I was wondering if there's ANY way to be able to exclude apps before the install so that they won't install. Is there a file that I can edit and if so, how exactly should I edit it?

Answer:No Custom install for Office 2016?

Folks have complained about this same problem in the Windows 10 forums -- and the response there is that MS has removed the option to choose what components to install.

Answer:Microsoft Office 2016 for Windows

220 or a yearly subscription as I understand it - correct?

Libre Office - nowt, nothing, bugger-all, for free.

Libre works well and you can save documents and spreadsheets with a MS file extension so MS Office users can open your Libre Office file.

Unless MS have put the kibosh on that with latest release, I don't know, but probably unlikely.

I will concede MS Office has two very good programs though - Outlook and Publisher, almost worth the 220 smackers for those two.

I have tried numerous times, using identical settings from my previous pc. I have also changed the password to make sure that wasn't an issue.

The new password works on my cell phone and att mail online, everything there works. Nothing I have tried has been able to get my e mail account established on Office/Outlook 2016. POP/Imap, ***.mail.yahoo.com/***.att.yahoo.com etc nadna

I'm out of ideas at this point. Could the firewall or AV be stopping out bound communication?
