Microsoft Store is broken in Windows 10 and I can't fix it

Question: Microsoft Store is broken in Windows 10 and I can't fix it

Hello, I was receiving an error whenever I attempted to install an application via the Microsoft Store after receiving my brand new Surface Book. I found a fix to my specific issue here. The relevant bits are:

Code:
As you are unable to install an app from the Windows store, I suggest you to try the below and check if it helps.Method 1: Run WSReset.exe .

Press Windows+R key to open Run boxEnter wsreset.exe in the Run command and then tap or click OK.Restart your computer and check.
If resetting Windows Store cache does not help. Try the below,
Method 2: Re-register Windows Store by running the following commands in a CMD window started as Administrator:
Follow the below steps.

Open the Start menu, type Windows PowerShell in the search bar.Right click on the Windows PowerShell and select Run as administrator. Then enter the chkdsk command
PowerShell -ExecutionPolicy Unrestricted

$manifest = (Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.WindowsStore).InstallLocation + '\AppxManifest.xml' ; Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $manifest

After running #3 in method 2 the Windows Store wouldn't even start. So based on what I was seeing I tried what was suggested at this link, relevant bits below:

Code:
Now, use the Add-AppxPackage command to reinstall the Windows Store. Use the following command:Add-AppxPackage -register "C:\Program Files\WindowsApps\<PackageFullName>" ?DisableDevelopmentMode

That didn't work, and using PowerShell I discovered the following:

Code:

Any ideas on how to fix this merge error? I don't have a system restore point as the Surface Book is brand new, and I don't know how to completely uninstall and reinstall the Microsoft Store.

Preferred Solution: Microsoft Store is broken in Windows 10 and I can't fix it

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Microsoft Store is broken in Windows 10 and I can't fix it

Hi, you can (apparently- I've not tried it) remove store from current user or all users, but this is NOT RECOMMENDED
See:
Apps - Uninstall in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums
(To remove Store app from current account only - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Get-AppxPackage *windowsstore* | Remove-AppxPackage

(To remove Store app from all current accounts - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Code:

Get-appxpackage -allusers | where-object {$_.packagename -like "*windowsstore*"} | remove-appxpackage
(To remove Store app from new accounts created afterwards - NOT RECOMMENDED)
Code:
Get-appxprovisionedpackage ?online | where-object {$_.packagename ?like "*windowsstore*"} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage ?online

Naturally you're welcome to try and see how far you get, but I suspect you will end up doing a (relatively painless) in place upgrade install: I've seen a number of people struggling with apparently confined defects (myself included) for which one might think there should be an easy fix, and waste a considerable amount of time doing so.

Note that typically used Powershell commands from build 10586 break things rather than fix them now. Frustrating.

Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums

You could of course try the following well-known sequence from an elevated (admin) Command Prompt, but I suspect the answer will end up as an in-place repair install- sledgehammer approach.

SFC /scannow

To open an admin Command Prompt window
Press Win key + X, then click ?Command Prompt (admin).
Then copy/paste each in turn at the prompt, press <Return> and wait for the command to complete.

Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /StartComponentCleanup
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
SFC /scannow

Well I use groove music to play my offline music but it lacks an equalizer and lyrics support so I was wondering If there is anybody who can suggest 5 great looking and feature rich free offline music players in the store or conventional music players if the interface is modern.

Basically, my WIndows Store app somehow managed to break itself. I cannot install/update apps as is just infinitely says "installing". after it gets stuck, the progress bar just plain won't budge. I can't click "pause all". I can't even download apps at this point...

i tried the "wsreset" function, more than once. didn't work.

Answer:Windows 10 store broken

System restore? Lol who uses windows store anyways? I only used it once ever when I had Windows 10 to look around.

Edit: are all the windows store services running?

Somehow I corrupted the Windows Store. The Start Tile itself is working. It updates regularly showing new content. When I click the tile the screen morphs to the green full screen Windows Store. But it has the "merry-go-round" dots endlessly. Without the Store I can't download any apps. I can live without that ability but it would be nice to have.

I tried SFC but the huge report made no mention of Windows Store details. I tried a PowerShell script that was to refresh the cache. It didn't. I tried a regedit fix by tricking WS into recreating its cache. Didn't work. I didn't even find the cache where it was supposed to be. Didn' find it at all.

New sets of eyes and minds would be greatly appreciated!
As always TIA

Have you tried System Restore to a date prior to the beginning of the problem? Do you have all the Windows 8.1 updates installed?

So, a few weeks ago, I started playing Rise of the Tomb Raider on Steam and every time I would exit the game my volume icon and my start button became unclickable. I searched the web for a solution and found a PowerShell solution. It worked, but it only fixed the problem until I decided to play again.

A few days ago, I went to open up my camera app and a screen would open up for 1 second and close. It also happened when I tried to open up the Windows Store.

"@{Microsoft.WindowsStore_2016.27.2.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe?ms-resource://Microsoft.WindowsStore/Resources/StoreTitle}"

I've tried everything except system restores. I never set up restore points and that's my fault. I really don't want to spend hours downloading all my games and programs again. I also don't want to spend money on a external hard drive to make backups of everything. If I have to, I will. Hopefully there is a quicker and easier fix. I don't understand why there just isn't a uninstall and reinstall option for the Windows Store.

Well, here is a screen shot I made of my issue. I've read through a few other posts about Store errors, I think mine is different than most of the other ones on here. Thanks for any help you can send my way.

When I open the Windows Store app, it immediately closes. Event Viewer says this: "Activation of the app Microsoft.WindowsStore_8wekyb3d8bbwe!App for the Windows.Launch contract was blocked with error 0x80073CFC because its package is in state: Error from application of unknown origin." Windows 9 will reportedly have new activation methods that will tie the OS more closely with a specific PC

Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) will unveil Windows 9 this fall, claims notorious Russian leaker WZor, who has a pretty good track record. In a Russian language post on Ru-Board, the leaker said that the upcoming update to Windows 8 will be the last major overhaul of the existing OS. Microsoft is expected to launch the Windows 8 Update 2 in August.

Windows 9 to have new activation methods

WZor claimed that Microsoft will back the launch of Windows 9 with heavy advertising blitzkrieg and a new distribution method. The new activation methods will tie a copy of Windows 9 more closely with a specific PC. It will require the user to log in to Microsoft Store, and users won’t be given an activation key. Talking about Windows 8, WZor said that there will be new updates after the Update 2 due next month. But no new features will be added to it.

Motivation behind the new activation method is “problems in China.” The world’s most populous country recently banned Windows 8. Notably, a couple of weeks ago, WZor claimed that Microsoft may announce Windows 9 at its Worldwide Partner Conference, which begins July 13 in Washington D.C. That claim was missing in the latest report, but WZor reassured us that the new OS will be launched this fall. However, he only talked about the announcement, without revealing whether it will be a Developer... Read more

Answer:Microsoft to Force Microsoft Store Account to Activate Windows 9

Not sure how logging into the store ties the OS more specifically to a computer. Doesn't seem right at all. However, if it is only logging onto the Microsoft Store to activate, and not forcing a Microsoft account to use the computer, I can see that being okay. As long as the local account continues to be an option, things will be fine. If I'm forced to use a Microsoft account to use my computer... I'll stay on 8.1. And then maybe move to Linux.

Transformation of UI is already being done in 8.1 Update 1. No surprise that it would be further enhanced.

Launch of 9 wouldn't put an end to 8. And let's face it, Microsoft never lost its dominance on the desktop market. There is nothing for them to re-establish here. The only thing they need to establish is a stronger presence in the mobile market.

Just got a refurbished Surface Pro 2 and I feel like the Windows installation might be a bit broken. Done all the usual googlings and every step I make takes me further down a feedback loop of 'computer says no'.

Firstly, if I try to check for updates (in control panel), it gets stuck in a 'checking for updates' loop. I saw one fix was to make sure the date was correct, mine was WAY off, oh how I delighted in the promise of that being the obvious fault - it was not.

The other issue is that the app store thing has never worked. At first it was because the initial Windows set up messed up my attempt to log in using my Microsoft ID, then I rectified that and, like the update issue, it too hung upon trying to start it. I did the fix where you copy and paste this 'Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register $Env:SystemRoot\WinStore\AppxManifest.XML' into Powershell, but all that did was delete the actual store app.

Store is ok now, no particular reason, just windows update that's broke.

I'm trying to update my current genuine Windows 8.1 home to Windows 10. Unfortunately it fails no matter what method I use. I've tried everything. I think it's due to the fact that my windows apps are broken. Same goes for windows store and pc settings. Upon clicking any of the above I get an icon in the taskbar but clicking on it does not reveal any window. Also live update for the tiles associated with apps does not work.

I've tried already :

1. Automatic repair of windows store and apps with a dedicated microsoft app. Output : "Can't find ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches"

2. Using automatic registry repair tool called Wise Registry cleaner. Rebooted, nothing changed.

3. Ran 'regedit' and tried to access HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\Local Settings\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\AppModel\Repository\Packages
Unfortunately, folders 'Repository' and 'Packages' did not exist. Author of the troubleshooting guide available here [FIX] Error "ms-windows-store:PurgeCaches" While Resetting App Cache In Windows 8, 8.1 encouraged readers in comments to create these directories if they don't exist. If someone really wants the high end $2179 version of the Lenovo Helix, and lives near a physical Microsoft Store, you might stop by and check the price. While it is on sale for $1799 on the web site, it was marked at either $1399 or $1499 in the Scottsdale store. Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention, hence the statement it was one of those two prices. It, however, was certainly not a typo since all three demos had the same sales tag and they were definitely all the high end model.

I could access the store with my Comcast account.. a great PR move on Microsoft's part. as most providers use all operations systems anyways for their customers..

Answer:Microsoft should allow Local accouts access to Microsoft/Windows Store for local accunts

You can already selectively sign into the apps like the store, groove, film and music etc.
I use a local account and i can download apps + games as i have only signed into the store.
When signing into a Windows System App such as Groove or Store, choose to sign-in into that app only - it is the option written in semi grey text.

Hi,

The Microsoft Store on my laptop (Dell Inspiron 14 / Windows 10 version 1607) does not work. A screen capture is included in this post. The issue started a few weeks ago, before the last few updates. I have attempted several fixes that I have found on the Internet, all with no success. I have done the clear and reset fix - i.e. wsreset.exe. I have done several power shell command fixes with no success. The last thing I did was a system file system check - i.e. sfc /scannow and everything was fine. The issue occurs even on a newly created user. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks,

Was at the Microsoft Store today and they had a Windows 8 preview on a Samsung tablet. Amazing is the last word I would use. It was incredible. No way this translates well for a desktop, but it certainly works well on the tablet. Not to say it won't be nice, just not the same great experience as on the tablet. Not to mention while I was there, one of the store reps greeted the customers to a demonstration, which I thought was pretty good marketing. Just thought I'd share.

Posting this here as both a question and FYI for anyone that may run into this in the future. Last November, I purchased Windows 10 Pro (full retail) from the Microsoft Store as a digital download. I found it strange that they did not send me a key, so no problem I'll just use Produkey to extract it and store it somewhere safe if I ever have to do a re-install.

Well fast forward to yesterday. I recently built a new system (specs in sig), and to make a long story short I went through LITERAL HELL with Microsoft to get this re-activated. The key I extracted from the previous install was blocked due to the hardware changes. I think.. oh ok, no problem.. I'll just activate by phone.... WRONG. It still failed. I ended up calling Microsoft support, got transferred 4 times, and finally got to a nice young lady that remoted into my machine and fixed the issue for me and got the system activated.

So upon further research.. Microsoft has changed the way they do the licensing a bit for Windows 10. I have what I believe is called a "digital entitlement" which is basically locked to the hardware it was installed on. At first they told me I would have to buy another copy of Windows 10 and I was furious and demanded a supervisor, at which point they realized I had bought a legitimate copy and proceeded with getting it activated. This may be old news for some, but posting my experience and what I uncovered anyhow.

So here's my question.. is the Produkey method ... Read more

Answer:Windows 10 Microsoft Store purchase - where's the key?

The product key is likely a generic key because as you said the licensing is done via digital entitlement. It's very similar to how product keys on OEM activated computers are basically generic, place-holder keys.

The nice part about digital entitlement is that you can reinstall without typing in a key, you just skip they key and if the system was already activated the new install will activate as well. The bad part, as you encountered, is that the store purchase, just like the free Windows 10 upgrades, you don't actually get a key if you want to move it (if you're even legally able to).

Regarding your issue, when you bought the 10 license originally did you see a EULA that mentioned transferring to a new computer?

I just tried to find some EULA information for the version of 10 purchased from their store and I cannot find any. I really don't know what the restriction is for transferring.

Are there any ways to block the Microsoft store on Windows 10 Pro now that the official method by Microsoft was removed with the anniversary update? Or at the very least, is there a way to stop people from downloading and installing apps? Even though the user is logged on as a User, not Administrator, they can still install the app (but not traditional software executables). Is there a way I can maybe do this on the network level by blocking ports?

I do have some Enterprise licenses but I would rather not have to waste them if the computer already comes with Windows 10 Pro.

Many Windows 10 users are facing Store related issues as can be seen in various forums. Microsoft Windows Store team has also identified some of the top Store related issues and is working on their diagnosis and fixes.
Some of the Store issues being identified and mentioned by the Windows Store quality team in Answers are : Store launch failures : When you click on Store app to open, it just opens for a moment and closes or not opening at all. App updates not completing or downloads getting stuck : While downloading new apps or updating existing apps from the Windows Store, one may notice that the app download stops in between without completing or the download appears to be persistently stuck at “Pending”. “Server Stumbled" error VCLibs system libraries being downloaded multiple times.Store is missing error
So Microsoft Windows Store team has identified these top Store issues and is working on to fix them. Microsoft appreciating the users patience is working on the details to determine and deploy fixes. It will be posted or informed as soon these are ready. I am a windows insider. I have been complaining about their "modern apps" failures for 6 months now. Most people tried to shut me up by saying they were test releases. But as we got closer and closer, I escalated more and more including Satya Nadella and Gabe Aul. They seemed to come out with bandaid fixes but never addressed the root cause. While the store is likely to stabilize over time, you can look forward to problems with other modern apps like "People", "Microsoft Money (Finance)", and other apps that are the ones generally supporting live tiles. Mail and calendar have not been resistant to this problem. While I suspect that data in your users/appdata folder is getting corrupted, windows folks in Redmond have been keeping mum about this issue. So sorry for your experience with Windows 10. I can tell you that classic apps seems to be pretty rock solid. In my opinion, only when Microsoft starts debugging with tracing and a sniffer on their network do they have a chance of resolving this. My experience is that they keep recoding and hope it goes away. Best of lu... Read more

Microsoft Releases Broken Windows 7 Update to Fix Broken Windows 7 Update

Windows updates are still a huge pain in the neck for Microsoft, as the company is often hit with reports of failed installs and bugs caused by the botched patches that it ships every month.

This is what happened with the Windows 7 August Monthly patch rollup KB4034664, which introduced a series of problems affecting users with two monitors.

Basically, the update broke down the display on the second monitor, causing rendering issues that required a manual workaround provided by Microsoft itself and involving enabling Desktop Composition and then configure the main monitor in the monitor layout.

Earlier this week, however, Microsoft attempted to address the problem with a new patch, which would have made the manual workaround pretty much unneeded. But it looks like the KB4039884 update in charging of doing the whole magic is broken as well and introducing a series of other problems on Windows 7 systems.

New update, new bugs
As Woody Leonhard notes, there are users complaining that this update, despite installing fine, restores a number of update files to old versions, which in its turn triggers notifications for more than 20 important and recommended updates in Windows Update, even though all these patches have already been installed.

Removing the update eliminates the bug as well, but without it, the only way to deal with the dual monitor bug is to turn to the manual workaround.

Hi All,

I need help finding the folder for the games I downloaded from the Microsoft Store in Windows 10. If they are xbox app games they are listed and can be launched via the xbox app.

For a list of all your downloaded app games, click the store app, click your account photo on the upper right of your screen and click "my library", all your game downloads will be there, you can then click on a game and then click open to play it.

Hello, I do own a Microsoft Lumia 550 from the 30th of December '15 and I didn't have a problem with it since the last days, when I wanted to download from the Windows Store the app called "CSR Racing". P.S: The phone itself came with Windows 10 installed and I did do the phone update(s) and did install all app updates, I even did a factory reset to see if that solves the problem, but no luck there :(

First, I am not sure whether this is the correct discussion, sorry if it is not.
The problem: Two days ago I bought the app Oxford Hachette French Dictionary from the Microsoft Store using their web page. I have confirmation that the payment has gone through and that I am the "owner".
I attempted to download the app, clicking on the button on the web page, whence Store opened. The app appears to have downloaded and Install starts, but then there is an error Code: 0x87AF000B. I have done this several times just in case.
In the "elevated" cmd prompt, I have entered
net stop wuauserv | move "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution" "c:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution.old" | net start wuauserv
then rebooted the computer. This made no difference to downloading the purchased app so I reversed what I had done. [ | is standing for carriage return or enter]
I ran WSReset.exe. The result was "ms-windows:store:PurgeCaches | Package could not be registered."
I'm scared to go further in case I make the situation worse.
Please would someone advise how to make MS Store downloads work.
Thanking you in advance for your answer/s
regards
JanetW

Microsoft officials say the latest Windows 10 cumulative update fixes problems some users were having with Windows Store. What else is in it? We have no idea.

The newest cumulative update is KB3081438. The Microsoft Support page says nothing about the specific features and fixes that are new to this update beyond "This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality of Windows 10."

Answer:Microsoft's third Windows 10 cumulative update said to fix Store issues

"This update includes improvements to enhance the functionality"
Any update with a vague description like that should be considered suspicious. If I were offered an update worded like that for my windows 8.1 machine I would definitely refuse it, if they won't say what it is for it is either not important or not pleasant. Remember that this is the sort of language which was the wording used for the KB page of kb3035583 when it was first released (it's page has been updated since to give a more accurate description of what it does, but when that update first came out it's page was all vague like that).

Hi guys!

I'm having this problem since yesterday, and I can't find anyone with the same problem.
I have this problem where no microsoft applications work. I can't open Edge, Windows Store or Photos app. When I want to open them, there is absolutely 0 response. No error-message, nothing! When I observe the task manager while starting these apps, they DO appear for like, 1 second. They immediately disappear though.
I don't know what the issue is. I have this problem since I installed the application: SaferVPN (I already uninstalled it).
Ou yea, my Windows search doesn't work either. No reaction from the system at all.

I already tried running sfc /scannow.
My computer is up to date.
There were no windows updates involved at the point of time where the problem occurred.
I tried restarting windows several times.

I run Windows 10 for quite a long time now. Also, when I want to add a Microsoft Account, it give no response either. (I think thats because it usually opens a small Edge Browser Windows for entering the credentials.

Can you guys please help me? I usually find my solutions in already existing forums, but I didn't find anyone who had the same problem as me (perhaps I didn't google the right thing and couldn't find it because of that.)

Thanks for anything in advance.
Kind Regards,
Maarten

Just like it happened in Windows 8, Windows 10 requires users to log in with a Microsoft account in order to install apps from the Store, but this is no longer valid for those whose computers are powered by the Pro SKU of the operating system.

German website WIndowsArea has discovered that Microsoft suddenly made a policy change that makes it possible for Windows 10 Pro users to install apps from the Windows Store without the need for a Microsoft Account.

There are some limitations though. First of all, only freeware applications can be installed, so if you want to purchase an app, an account is still required.

Then, if you?re trying to update a paid application that?s already installed on your Windows 10 device, an account is once again needed.

Why the change?
Microsoft hasn?t explained why exactly it made this change, but given the fact that it concerns the Pro version of the operating system, it?s not difficult to see that the company specifically targeted companies that are trying to get more control over what users install on their systems.

On the other hand, it?s not yet clear if the Enterprise SKU of Windows 10 can also install apps without a Microsoft account because reports in this regard are still mixed, with some claiming that it works, while others indicating that it doesn?t.

Without a doubt, installing apps from the Windows Store without an account can boost adoption of Store apps, but we?ve reached out to Microsoft to find out if this is inde... Read more

Kind Regards,
Maarten

Hi smaardy, welcome to Ten Forums. The best way right now to fix your problem is by doing an repair install/ in place upgrade. This is from the Tutorial Forum. Repair Install Windows 10 with an In-place Upgrade - Windows 10 Forums . Choose the option to keep your apps and files. There was a way to re-register the windows apps, but it has not been working with the latest version of windows (fall update or version 1511).

Microsoft has acknowledged multiple issues with the $14.99 DVD Player App for Windows 10 and has suggested some workarounds.

1. The video is stuttering or failing to play. Many people can fix this issue by installing the latest graphics drivers (AMD, Intel, Nvidia). We are continuing to investigate and fix other causes of this problem.
2. When changing from one DVD to another, Windows DVD Player will not play the new DVD. This can be fixed by closing and re-opening the Windows DVD Player app.
3. Windows DVD Player does not detect that a disk was inserted. This can be fixed by closing Windows DVD Player, inserting the DVD into your DVD drive, and then re-opening the Windows DVD Player app.
4.Inserting a DVD opens the Windows Store. If inserting a DVD opens the Windows Store, rather than launching the DVD player, you may need to update your program defaults. To do so:
Open the Start menu, search for “DVD” and select the result labeled “Autoplay” under Settings.
You should see four DVD entries in the AutoPlay Control Panel, including “DVD movie”, “Enhanced DVD movie”, and “DVD-Audio.” Set the default for each of these items to “Play DVD (Windows DVD Player)” under the drop down menu for each entry.
The Windows DVD Player app should now automatically launch when a disc is inserted.
5. Windows DVD Player will not play audio using Dolby Digital Plus 5.1. Some ... Read more

I believe this happened to my son's Windows 10 lap top.
I just need to know if it's possible to "break into" the loop he is in, so use the information in this link

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us...85-3320-4a4b-bc71-bb4de869b13f?page=25&auth=1

This is, supposedly, the "short form" of the Fix

delete folder C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\XblGameSave
delete registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\Microsoft\XblGameSave
Re-run the update
But he needs to get into Windows !

I find it perplexing that Microsoft still hasn't considered adding the ability to share Windows Store apps between all accounts on a shared PC like a family desktop. There are several feedback items in the Feedback Hub calling for sharing options ranging from sharing apps across accounts added on the PC to sharing with accounts added as your family on all your PCs.
Consider a simple scenario. I own Quantum Break on the Windows Store through my Xbox One Pre-order. Now I would like to install the game on my family desktop and be able to have it playable on other user accounts on my PC. Unfortunately, Microsoft doesn't make this a straight forward process like it is on platforms like Xbox One or Steam. The only way you can do it is by adding all other accounts to your family and then changing the Windows Store account on all those accounts to my Microsoft Account.
I don't have to state how archaic this whole process is. Given how much Microsoft is promoting Xbox Play Anywhere these days, they really should focus on making these basic scenarios simple first. As it stands, I cant convince anyone in my circle of family and friends to invest in the Xbox ecosystem if it cant deliver these features which steam has had for years.

Answer:Why hasn't Microsoft implemented Windows Store app sharing between accounts on a single PC?

I'm sincere: first time I herd that. Accounts were created for differentiate people on the same machine, avoiding damages or interferences.
On desktops, when you install most apps / progs , if you choose Custom install instead of Fast, it will ask sooner or later "Applies on your account or all accounts"

Came across this by accident after just watching a video. Haven't seen any post about it on this forums so, here it is. You simply press the following combination of keyboard keys, and Edge, or any other Windows Store application instantly enters full-screen mode:Ctrl + Win + Enter
Press the same combination of keyboard keys to exit full-screen mode, or hover you mouse pointer to the top right corner of your screen and click the exit full-screen button.
Not sure why this handy feature isn't readily accessible via a shortcut in Edge's overflow menu, but that's typical of microsoft...

The Store app WordPad 10 which is installed (several times) on my Tablet PC, is 'broken' and I cannot get help with it. This is because (a) the link to a support email address on the Store page does not work (emails are bounced) and (b) the link supposedly to its website takes you to a completely different site, the authors of which say they have no connection to WordPad 10. I have lodged a report to MS, but am not expecting to get a reply.
So how can I get help with problems? ---- such as files listed in Recent Events not opening, plus Open on the main page not working; the This PC page shown in the Store page not being available; the in-app purchases not being offered. I can (partly) tell how the app is meant to work because it is working OK on my Windows phone. Unfortunately, the app on the phone does not have the required contact details either. It seems that the outfit is still alive somewhere because they have sent pop up-notifications of new additions to their offerings. I am thinking of following them up even though I dont want their new apps, such as a dedicated pdf reader (I have used Foxit for years, and WordPad 10 reads pdfs anyway).

I just tried in vain to download 4 different apps from the Store. Each one started to download and then stuck for several minutes until I gave up and tried a different one. Apps included 3 Anatomy and AutoCad. Later I looked at the downloads listing and they were still there, doing nothing. The AutoCad needed my account and activated OK but then stuck. Perhaps the store is swamped at this time (10:30 PM EST) but -- this is Microsoft, King of Computers. So maybe it's a setting on my pc. Any thoughts?

I purchased last week ideapad s10-2 from microsoft store online which came preinstalled with windows 7. Questions: 1. Is it possible to create factory default disk/recovery disk on an external usb dvd/cd drive as the netbook has no optical disk drive2. If so is it possible to recover from the exteral recovery disc created in case disk crashes I spoke to lenovo tech support in the US and they said they do not support these in netbook. I read other posts on this forum and none of them talk about windows 7. Any information will be appreciated. Thanks,Shiva

Answer:Possible to create factory default/recovery disk on s10-2 with windows 7 sold by microsoft store?

If it has OneKey Recovery, and it works the same as the version that comes with the S12, then yes, you can create Factory Default Recovery Disks using an external usb cd/dvd burner. One would assume that you can do a recovery this way too.

Hey guys, long time no see!

Well, after a bunch of changes in my pleasantly static life, I'm back here with this problem:
I work installing multiple computers using always the same image I made on a virtual machine and use to update often. The image have a normal Windows 8.1 Update 1 x64 installation with Office 2013 SP1 that I activate with their respective licenses after restoring, also adding a couple of extra applications for daily use of the owner of the computer I'm restoring. Some of those applications are Windows Store apps, specifically Facebook, Microsoft Solitaire Collection and Microsoft Minesweeper.
In order to install those apps I linked the local user account I made to an empty Microsoft account that I created specially for that purpose, downloaded the apps and later unlinked the Microsoft account converting the user account into local again. Everything is perfect on the virtual machine. I can open the apps without problems using the local user account. But, after creating an image of that and restoring in another computer, those apps shows a black "X" on a white spot in the bottom-right corner of their tiles. That means only one thing: clicking that kind of tiles deliver you to a message error that contains a "Go to the Store" link in order to fix the problem.
All my "drama" starts right here because I need to re-link the user account with my empty Microsoft account, fix the problem for every app with the error and unlink again.... Read more

Hi All, I did an upgrade from Win7 HP 64 bit to Win 10 - I triggered it manually from the MS download. At first all was well, but then Edge locked up. I killed the appropriate processes in Task Manager, then rebooted. The PC basicall works, but some of the major bits of the interface do not:
The Edge & Store icons in the Taskbar are blank. Clicking where the Store button should be brings a message that 'This app can't open' and refreshing the PC might help fix it. The Edge button location does nothing.
The Start button or key also do nothing visible, the Search doesn't work either - so I can't get into Settings - Control Panel is accessible, but of course doesn't have the new Settings.
I booted from DVD - got into Repair, but it won't roll back to the previous version (which I did use on another PC to get back to Win7).
A system restore did complete, but hasn't fixed things. Also, trying to Reset the PC failed too. I also tried a new User account (which I found as a possible fix) - I had to do this via CMD - no good either.
So, before I do a clean install, is there anything else I can do?
Thanks in advance!

Answer:Win 10 broken - blank Edge, Store in Taskbar, Start not working at all

As we know reset would be like a clean install. Fact being if ever did want to go back to old OS,since having issues now even trying rollback. Through advanced options it did not work either, rollback to Win 7 ? https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...s-windows.html

This is a long shot, but try system file checker and DISM.

Admin Command prompt copy paste and press enter, let it finish
sfc /scannow

Same open command prompt, copy and paste this, press enter let it finish
Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

reboot the pc, make take several reboots 3x's and several tries with these commands to try to fix it, if it can.
When you booted from the DVD it was a Windows 10 iso disc, right ?

Hi, I have a problem with a Windows 10 store on my desktop PC. This is not a phone.
I have the latest build 10240 with all of the updates installed. The last few updates installed over last night and then my Store app stopped working.
I searched reddit and found some guys have a similar problem:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Windows10/comments/3ej38n/store_update_stuck_on_00mb/
The thing was that when I tried to open the Store app this morning I've got a message: Before you can shop, we need to update the Store
I then pressed Update button and then It tries to update the Store app.
But then it just says Pending and it doesn't do anything for the whole day now.
I think there must be some other applications waiting for an update and they all got stuck.
Does any have any idea how to open the store?

Answer:Windows 10 Desktop (not for phones) Store update pending. How can I open the store?

Exactly the same problem here in New Zealand on 2 machines. 10240 is installed on both PCs and they simply refuse to download any data from the store that will perform the store update. One PC is sitting on the "pending" which the other gets a little further to "0.0 MB of 40.1 MB...". It is only a few days until official launch so these basic bugs really ought to have been sorted by now :-(

Answer:Windows Store Access: Make Store accessible to Admins only?

I think you will have to add the Desktop Experience feature in Windows Server, on your Domain Controllers to enable such a Windows Store Group Policy.
After that you will see the Group Policy setting at: User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Store
No way I know of to do it on Windows 10 Pro.
