I've just installed Windows 10 and experimented with the Groove music player. It finds all the songs but they are tagged Unknown Artist and Unknown Album. The songs appear fine in iTunes with the correct details and album art.
I reset Groove and made it scan the music directories again but the problem remains. Any solutions?
I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.
I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.
You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)
It's not something I've experienced and so I'm probably going to be of little help. However, out of interest do the actual song files themselves have metadata stored in them? For example, find the one of these audio files in Windows File Explorer, Right-Click > Properties > Details Tab.
If there is no metadata there, in Groove Music > Settings, is "Media Info: Automatically retrieve and update missing album art and metadata" set to on?
Also, do you have Indexing switched on in Control Panel > Indexing Options and the location where your music is stored (EG: Users folder) set to be indexed?

I've been trolling the forums here for a while. Lots of great info but now I actually have an issue where I need some assistance.
When I was booting one day last week I got a nasty BSOD when Windows was trying to load. Then on the next reboot Windows 7 said it couldn't load and needed to do the recovery OS option from the Windows 7 repair on the CD. Well, before trying that I did a cold reboot and it got back into the OS fine so I didn't think much of it. Now, I noticed Ghost shows the C: drive status as "Unavailable" and it can't back it up anymore. It does give me an option to restore from one of my old backups. I'm thinking the MBR got hosed up somehow or something like that. But I'm skeptical to run an MBR repair since I have that 100MB partition on my SSD where my OS resides.

This was about a week ago my Windows 7 started acting up right before the big patch Tuesday. I've been running it for over a year now and it's been solid. When I first set it up I installed it on my SSD (Intel 510 120GB) drive. One of the qualms I had with the install is Windows created a separate boot sector on the disk drive where it stored my boot files. This is known the the "system reserved" operating system files 100MB partition. Apparently the way to avoid this is to use a third party partition tool before doing the windows install. That way it will keep the Boot sector files on the same partition which is how I would of liked it for doing resto... Read more

How can I get my music played on mix Radio as a unknown artist and would I go about doing that
More repliesEDIT: For clarification: My core plan is to get the music app to organise albums by album artist, but use song artist for artist view. I.E For the "Songs for Japan" album, I'd have only one album visible in album search, but I could see the one song each artist contributed under their individual sections and not a separate "various artists" artist. I could do this with my iPhone...
Hi
I was wondering if the Music app organises content by individual song artist, or album artist. For example, I have a number of compilation albums that have a number of individual artists. The album artist is "various artists" as I find iTunes has a tendency to bug out and make multiple separate icons if they dont have the same album artist.
Thing is, I tend to get a "various artists" column in the artists section, which is annoying. (and yet some songs "slip through" with their own data? Even those in the same album?). I never had this problem with the iPhone, though I suppose it's because they used the same music structure.
Secondly, when adding music via windows explorer, do I have to post it in with the artist folder? In other words, can I just copy paste in "XYZ album" into the music folder, or do I need to separate it by artist. (which obviously makes pasting in compilation albums a pain)
Thanks,
FireZealot
EDIT: For more info, I went into the metadata of my files. For the most part it is correct. Yet sometimes it will split albums in half, seemingly randomly. In these cases, the album name... Read more
Short answer: Yes. Microsoft prefers the "Album Artist" over "Artist" when organizing music.
I am experimenting with good old Media Player right now with my collection of MP3's. I finally decided to try the following settings checked:
"Retrieve additional information from the Internet: Overwrite all media information", "Rename Music files using rip music settings", "Rearrange music in rip music folder, using rip music settings".
I'm going to let it do it's thing, then verify and clean up the tags/album art with MP3Tag, then sync with my phone, to see how things turn out.

3 more repliesHello,
I currently use WMP10.
I have ripped music from some of my burned CDs and entered the tracklistings on the occasion where no info shows up. I would have all of my music files nicely organized, named and with pictures of the CD on the folder. This morning when I opened my music folder, I noticed an "Unknown Artist" folder filled with tons of the files that I had just renamed! This happened a couple of times before, but I ignored it and went back to re-typing all the artist info. This is getting very frustrating and only seems to happen to about 3-4 particular CDs that I ripped. It will also take the first track from an Album and put it in it's own folder by itself (titled "Soundtrack")
I'm really confused and frustrated. Any idea on what could be causing this?
Background:
Not on anniversary update yet. I was having a problem with the Groove app not adding any Artist art for any of my music on my Lumia 1520. Artist art would not show up at all. I have all the metadata and Album art setup perfectly using a program called mp3 tag. I have the exact same music on my phone as I do on my computer (copied from computer to phone via usb).
I tried the Groove app on my computer once, but didn't turn on the setting to "Automatically retrieve and update missing album art and metadata" because I didn't want it to mess up my already perfect metadata. I did, however, turn on that setting on my phone, but still no Artist art. Troubleshooting and solution:
I decided to turn on that setting on my computer groove app and within a few seconds I started getting Artist art. All but a few were found. I then went to the phone, turned the setting back on and still nothing. I then tried hooking the phone to my home wifi, and within a few seconds I started getting Artist art. I never hook my phone to wifi because I have more data in my plan than I know what to do with so I use LTE exclusively. It seems the groove app isn't capable of, or allowed to, download the Artist art on a data connection, but it does work fine when on wifi. If you're having any issues try hooking to wifi and then open the groove app and let it do it's thing.
Only a few Artist art were still missing so I used a program called Groove Manager. This program was able to find ... Read more
Hello,
I wanted to know how to change artist artwork in Groove Music. I have a band that does not have the right artwork in the "Artists" category. Any idea how to change this? Or is there no way and maybe the new Anniversary update will fix it?
Thanks so much!
So a pretty known feature on Groove Music is automatic artist images (I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT ALBUM ART) where artist images load even they aren't in the music files themselves.
Artist images load fine on my netbook on Groove Music. (Windows 10)
The problem I'm having is on my PC. When I play music, I expect artist images to load and show up (I'm connected to the internet so that couldn't be the problem). But they don't. I have also tried turning on the "Media Info" option but this doesn't seem to fix the issue. I've been having this issue for quite a while now. Updates have passed but they don't fix the artist images problem on my PC.
What can I do to fix this?
Does anyone know how to get Groove to show Artist photos in the PC version? They show fine for most of the artists on my phone, but not the PC app. :S I even tried enabling the metadata setting and that didn't work.

There is a unknown 'portable' device (F:/) on my computer which I dont recognize.
I saw it when I was about to scan my computer with Norton and was about to select which drive I wanted to scan, if I show hidden files it also shows up under My Computer, but I cant access it....
What could cause this?
I replaced the motherboard on my Dell 8200 desktop with the exact same board, more powerful CPU. Popped in the CPU, cards, cables, etc. Machine powered right up, everything was groovy.
Then I tried to play a CD ? machine shut down, rebooted. I looked in Devices; everything was there EXCEPT the CD-Rom drives. They were at the bottom of the tree in a grey square labeled Unknown. Inside were the 2 drives, properly labeled but showing as unknown devices. Attempted to reinstall drivers, but machine couldn?t find drivers (do CD-Rom & CD-RW even need drivers?).
Swapped Primary & Secondary IDE cables, no luck. Did an uninstall (of both CDRW & CDROM) & reboot, same thing. Did a safe boot, removed Unknown devices & rebooted, same thing.
Machine is a Dell Dimension 8200, P4 2.8 GHz, 400 fsb, 1024 MHz RDRAM. Drives are an LG CDROM, & TDK Velo 24x10x40 CDRW.
How do I get this thing to recognize my CDROM & CDRW drives correctly?
Thanks & take care,

Since installing WMP 10, the player will not identify my CD's from internet databases. It just lists the tracks as "unknown artist." All my settings are correct and I am connected to the internet. When I click "find album info" the player will find the album info, but when I click "finish" it still names my album and tracks "unknown artist". Also, when I click on sms.napster to find album info I get a small window that says "This type of document does not have a security certificate". Any ideas short of reinstalling or upgrading to wmp11? Thanks.
Hello,I am a really big music lover, and due to this, i have ALLOT of songs (0.5 tb worth), any way when ever i download a song i usually can edit the Artist and Album name, etc. and i love this option because i organize ALL of my music, now when right click on my Mp3 files (while inside a folder recognized as a MP3 folder) and i got to properties -->summary, the only three things there i can edit are: the track number, title, and comments, if you know how to restore the other properties (album name, artist, durration, genre, etc..) please help
MP3 files contain that data. I can't imagine how anything would affect every one. I'd more suspect your application is not displaying the data.1/3 of highway deaths are caused by drunks. The rest are by people who can't drive any better than a drunk.
3 more repliesWhen I am using Microsoft Groove Music to play my local music files, I go to the Artists tab and start to scroll through to find something to play. Every 10 seconds or so, the list refreshes back to the top, no matter if I'm doing anything or not. It doesn't seem to do it on the Songs tab. Very frustrating. If I can't find something to play within 10 sec. i have to scroll back down again. I can't seem to find any relevant settings to turn off refresh. Is there something else going on?
More repliesHey guys!! So I know there are quite a few people who want to change most of the images that Groove Music uses as but not limited too Artist Images, Artist Banners, Live Tiles etc. The process does take a while but If you are hell-bent on changing them, or if you prefer another image it is possible!! Groove music stores all these images locally; I am not talking about Album covers.
Programs you need:
Photoshop CC
CMD
Step 1.
Ensure ?View Hidden Folders? is ticked. To do this open start menu and search for ?Folder Explorer Options?. Once opened click View. Under Hidden Files and folders tick ?Show hidden files, folders, and drives?.
Step 2.
Navigate to this address in explorer: (Where USERNAME is you own)
C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.ZuneMusic_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\ImageCache\20
Step 3.
Back up all these files anywhere, such as a separate folder.
Step 3.
Now inside the original folder it will be filled with blank looking files. The easier option is to use advanced renamer to change all the file extensions to jpgs. Here?s a link on how to bulk change extensions using cmd:
Step 4.
Scroll through this list until you find the images you want to change. Open that file in Photoshop and change the image ensuring you don?t change the file name or dimensions and click save.
Step 5. When you have change the file you need to remove the .jpg extension back into file. Do this following step 3. And replace the orginal file in IMAGECACHE/2... Read more

How do I fix this? Like 80% of the songs in my music library cannot be played by Cortana either by voice or typing a command in (I just get told I need a subscription when I already HAVE the song--only a few songs play properly via Cortana).
I can't tell by your screenshot what the format of the song is. If it is MP3, you should have no problem. But if you have a file saved in a type that requires a license and it's not on this PC, you won't be able to play it.

I just upgraded my CPU to AMD Athlon 11 245 2.9GHz dual core and what a difference in speeds the only problem is a very small one when in system it shows up as AMD Processor model unknown 2.9GHz. When I run CPU-Z it shows everything about this processor even the model number but it shows nothing through Windows.
Anyone know how to fix this? I don't feel like taking my computer to the shop and paying to fix this very small problem.
What does it list for the CPU in your BIOS settings?
When you replaced the CPU, did you perform a CLEAR-CMOS (or CLR-RTC) procedure?
I just rebuilt a computer (XP3200 to Q6600) for someone who has tons of software installed and thus does not want to reinstall (neither do I, because it would be an immense hassle on my end). I was about to attempt a repair install using my retail XP disc (using his product key, I assure you), but the damn thing lists both of the SATA drives as unknown partitions.
Booting to a Symantec System Recovery disc, however, show both drives intact. And, in fact, the system does try to load Windows if booted normally (BSOD, of course).
So I'm sitting here scratching my head. This process has been a complete nightmare (the details of which are irrelevent to the current problem) and I feel like my brain's just not working at this point, so I'm reaching out for help. Can anyone explain to me (use small words, I don't think I could process anything above a third grade level right now) what would cause the XP disc to not see the partitions properly?
Update: I grabbed the latest SATA drivers to load during setup. When I'd accidentally used my XP upgrade disc to run setup it had seen the partitions without issue, so I'm not sure why the actual XP disc would have a problem. Regardless, that seems to have done it. I think this is the first time I've seen setup detect the drives but fail to recognize the partitions due to a driver issue. Anyone else come across that?
The very first thing that should be looked at is the BSOD. The codes from the BSOD will let us pinpoint the problem.
When in Windows Explorer I see an unknown pc. I dont understand why?
We need more details. Is file and print sharing enabled? Do you have other computers on a network? Is this home or business? Are you using a wireless router? Is it password protected? Is there any device that is connected that may be misinterpreted by windows as an unknown PC? You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.

Hi,

2 x Laptop's
1 x Belkin Router (192.168.2.1) Connected directly into my PC.
Connected to the Internet all good working fine.
But there is also a terminal (a PC symbol), called "Unknown 192.168.2.5"
Does anyone know what this is or how do I check what this is or what it does?
Is someone hacking me, how do I cut them off?

Hi Simonwar,
We don't think there is any other client connected to the router. If the computer is both wired and wireless, that might show two different IP Addresses. Make sure the wireless security on your router is enabled, so that no one can connect to your router wirelessly. 192.168.2.5 could be a static ip address also. Make sure the ip address on your computer should be assigned by the DHCP.
To isolate this issue you can login to 192.168.2.1 and check that out. Please follow the steps given below:
1. Open an Internet Explorer and type in "192.168.2.1" in the address bar without any quotation mark and press Enter.
2. Click on Login, by default the password might be blank and click submit.
3. Click on DHCP Client List on the left hand side of the page.
4. You can view the Client name and the Client's MAC Address and the ip address which is connected to your router.
Note : If that is a wireless client, you will have to enable the wireless security on your router. That will automatically get disconnected as soon as you enable the wireless security on your router.
If the problem persists, please get back to us with the following information:
1. Model and version number of the router?
2. Number of the computers connected to the router (Wired and Wireless)?
3. If the IP Address is assigned manually on one of the computers?
Thank you.

I have a Dell desk top computer about 10 years old. I noticed in the Add/Remove in my control panel that there are several download installations from HP that I didn't add. Why would I have HP on a Dell computer? Would it hurt anything if I uninstall all these HP downloads if they are not being used?
Before you uninstall anything you might want to check in MSCONFIG--STARTUP to see if anything from HP is running and then decide if you need it. I seem to recall some HP software/drivers that are used by other systems as well. But if it's just the updates, online store and solutions center then yeah, that's just BS and can be removed.

I have two services that show up under services in the Computer Manager: Nwcdbh02ist and Udfstapteet
They also show up in the Ultimate TroubleShooter. In that program, when I click on "Explore Services Folder" for each of these services, I get a message saying that the folder cannot be found.
The Computer Management provides no information about either service other than they are both set to manual, local service and that there are no dependencies on them in either direction. Both services are stopped - I did not set them that way.
Any ideas of what these are? I've already searched the file database here on BleepingComputer and got nothing. A Google search also brings up nothing. Given the rather Germanic appearance to the name, I think Udfstapteet might be related to SpyBot's TeaTimer which I had installed for a while, but I'm not sure.

Well, I have discovered one small bit of information. In looking at my HiJack this Log, I have found that Nwcdbh02ist is connected with the NVIDIA Corporation. In googling that company I find that they deal with Graphic cards and video software including software that decodes DVD's for Windows Media player and Microsoft Media Player.
Since my graphic card doesn't appear to be from NVIDIA, I'm left with the conclusion that is related to my media players. I'll have to see if I can play a DVD, and if I can't I'll have to figure out how to get the rest of the software this service belongs to.

to be honest i don't know if this thing got switched out of my desk drawer with some other model usb dvd writer i had been using which worked. i have a few of these portable usb dvd drives and they all look the same, but i'm pretty sure this one has worked.
went to use it today and on work computers where i'm pretty sure it has worked in the past, now windows shows it as "unrecognized device, driver not installed". This was on some computers that have not had windows update in a while, some of which are off network lab computers which are pretty reliable and never have a problem. I tried it on a test pc that has all windows updates as of now, same deal.
In device manager it shows up as a problem device with yellow triangle.
I try it on my home pc, and that says driver installed but then shows up as Unkown Device under Universal Serial Bus Controllers in device manager. I did windows update with it connected as unknown device and windows update did not help. go under device manager and look at the properties of device, Hardware ID comes up as unknown. The driver key property shows up as
{36fc9e60-c465-11cf-8056-444553540000}\0030.
In every case, this usb dvd writer never shows up under my computer, or in disk manager.
anyone know of a way to troubleshoot this more to figure out why the generic usb cdrom driver in windows does not work for this device?

The driver verifier program, Verifier.exe, shows 4 drivers from "unknown provider".
The Drivers tab of Autoruns.exe does not show these.
Neither PowerShell nor Windows Explorer finds them and yes, I even specifically looked in Windows\system32\drivers.
The quick Malware Bytes scan and the quick MSE scan found nothing.
Here is a snip from the driver listing shown by Verifier (sorted so that the unknowns show up first).
The ones beginning with dump are typical in a crash scenario. The top one is the default sata driver supplied by windows, don't know why it's showing as unknown provider.
It does happen though...
They are usually emergency drivers just for the purpose of writing a dump file.
The last one I am unaware of, being stuck on my laptop I don't have immediate access to my usual resources though.
Hi all,
I have no idea how to sort this one.
On a few of my MP3 files, I can not add the album, artist etc, there is just no option to add it! It was not in there in the first place. See below image. I am in the right place for it - Properties, Summary, Advanced.
Any help would be great.
Thanks.
Hi Joe
That is strange. Can you use the advanced tag editor in Windows Media Player to add details?
Go into your library. Select 'Songs' from the sidebar. Then, right click on a song and select 'Advanced tag editor'. There, you can use the different tabs to add song and artist info.
Hello,
I used iTunes to rip all my cds onto an external hard drive a while ago. I then upgraded to the latest iTunes, and having done so, iTunes reimported my music from the relevant folder. However, a huge number of songs (and I'm talking in the thousands here) are missing their artist and album info. I don't understand why this has happened when I used a previous version of iTunes to rip the cds in the first place. I've tried looking at the tags for these songs, but I don't get an option relating to ID3 tags when I right-click, so I can't manipulate that.
The only way I can see me fixing this is to manually important each album and type in the artist/album info. With such a huge number of songs to fix, I really don't want to do this! Suffice it to say I am not going to update iTunes again, ever!
Many thanks for any help you can give.

I would check the files again with a tag editor like Mp3Tag to see if the data is there or not. If the Artist and Album tags are still there then you should be able to rebuild the iTunes library.
If the tags are missing you might be able to update the tags from the filenames with Mp3Tag if you have a consistent file naming convention.
I have Windows XP Pro, SP2, a Linux distribution and in that I use the desktop KDE.
The only reason I mention these two, is to let it be known that I have experience with more than one tag editor. And the three I'm familiar with have only the fields: Title, Artist, Album, Track, Genre and Comment.
But in Windows Media Player, (WMP), when you right click on a song, on the Context Menu that comes up, you can select Advanced Tag Editor. It's not a real tag editor, because it doesn't make a permanent change. It only changes the way the WMP library sees it. On that Advanced Tag Editor, under the Artist Info tab is a box called Album Artist. So far I've only seen it have the same artist as in the box above, called Artist.
One of the questions are that, sometimes that Album Artist box is empty. Sometimes it's not. If it has an Album Artist WMP will see it as a different album. Even though all the fields in regular tag editor are identical. One of my other questions is: where does it get that information? Can you get tag editors that have an editable Album Artist field?
Thanks,
royeo
I looked through my tag editors and I found that TagScanner (freeware) will edit that field. WMP fills in that data when you do an internet lookup from whatever online database WMP uses. Some of those fields are not maintained that well so sometimes there's data in them, sometimes not. Composer is another such field.
The question is do you want use that field for anything? Does it provide any useful information?
when i open my laptop it shows error: unknown filesystem because i updated it to windows 10 from window 7.so please help me regarding this.
More repliesHi !
I have this kind of a problem: I am working with my external Toshiba 3,5 alu case HDD 500GB and after a while of copying files into laptop it dissappears and shows up that device wasn?t recognised.
Can this be caused by not enough power in USB port?
THX for any help or workaround
Hi there,
yes this may be caused by the fact there is not enough power supplied by the USB port. firstly note that 3.5inch external USB hard drives are usually designed to be used with desktop systems due to their higher power requirements (this is also the reason that many require an external power supply of their own). my suggestion would be in future buy a 2.5inch external USB hard drive designed for use with laptops. another reason that the hard drive may disappear while copying files is that there may be a problem with the USB cable connection between the laptop and the external HDD. i would suggest checking that both ends are plugged in securely and not to place any pressure on the cables and to keep them stable.
i hope this helps you with your matter
Guys i have a similar problem but unlike the problem above my partition magic software does not read my external HD.. The device manager shows the HD is working properly.. and the disk manager shows DISK1 unknown and not initialized.. i m giving screen shot for both of them.. My external HD is WD 1TB HD.. it does not matter if i lose the data..but i want the HD to work
I had a Seagate drive fail suddenly last week -- a lot like the situation you described, and neither the Seagate nor the WD drive diagnostics even see the drive when it's in an external drive caddy. When I connect it to an internal drive cable, I get a SMART error and the PC hangs on the boot.
Have also tried Minitool Partition Wizard and some other data recovery apps, which CAN see the external drive, but they can't find or recover any partitions.
Suggest you check with Minitool as they offer a free trial of a data recovery app that might work for you.
This is the first time in years that I've had a drive fail and NONE of the data recovery apps have been able to find anything on the drive.
I've resorted to sending it off to a local data recovery service and am awaiting a quote.
Hi there,
First, i'm running 64-bit Windows 8.1
My issues is that when i run ccleaner to clean my computer Norton insight alert pops up showing that i'm downloading unkown exe files. This has happend a few times and don't know why. One of the file names was $RZDTPML.EXE. I believe file was downloaded to $recycle.bin but the source of the file is unknown. When i tried to locate the file after the first alert message from norton insight it states that the file can not be found. Don't know if this is a true issues or just a glitch with norton insight. All virus scans (malwarebytes, hitman pro free, norton) show that my system is clean.
Thanks for your help!

Hello
I got my 1tB WD external disk and it's not working as it used to. The problem came from nowhere, suddenly, totally unexpected. There is/was my precious data on it which I collected for 10+ years and I'd like not to lose it.
Origin:
It was working fine a day ago, no problems occured. Hasn't been unplugged since then. Has never fallen. Has never had any kind of error. But: I've seen some kind of ".COM not responding" problem on my PC (don't remember, closed it immediately). I believe my laptop is in a good and healthy condition.
So, what my WD HDD does is:
- it can be seen as a device by my computer. I can plug it out safely.
- diode shows that it's working (not showing the data transfer activity)
- nothing else
What I see in Device Management/Storage is (as in the title):
Screenshot by Lightshot
What programs I used to try to restore partition:
- Mini tool Partition Recovery Home Edition (quick and deep scan, no results. Shows disk as a Bad Disk)
http://prntscr.com/2wpy8s
- Mini tool Power Data Recovery (pro, non-free tool, however after scan there was no results)
- Find and Mount (no results)
- TestDisk (quick and deep scan, no results)
What I haven't tried doing is connecting the HDD directly to the laptop.
Any suggestions?
You should try directly conmcting it. If that does not work, try this: Recover a flash drive turned RAW ? Partition Wizard and TestDisk. Do recovery with partition wizard. (Don't mind the name) But if that does not work, your drive is dead. Like a wise man said, backup, backup, backup!
4 more repliesInstalled new hard drive and Windows 7, wireless card shows up as unknown device.
I was having major stability issues with windows. I wanted a new hard drive so i installed it and a new copy of windows. The wireless worked fine before, and ethernet works fine now. It shows up in device manager as other devices, network controller with a yellow exclamation mark. I have gone to Dell to install the driver. It almost finishes then says you do not have a recognized wireless device.
My comp is a Dell Inspiron M5010, I installed windows 7 HP 64 bit same as what was on before. WHDPC, K5Y6D are the numbers I have found for the card. I have tried several different drivers and all have the same error.
Any idea how to get windows to recognize the card so the drivers I install will recognize it? There are many threads about this in various places, but none of the solutions work.
Have you entered your service tag number from Dell.
That should tell you what was installed when you purchased the computer and point to the correct drivers.
On my PC I have one directory for all my mp3s. However, on my portable mp3 player (Archos FM Recorder) I would like to have my mp3s organized into folders (i.e. /Artist/Album). I want to keep my PC single all-mp3 directory the same (because if I could have this structure on my archos I would but can't due to a 400 file per directory limit on the archos) but I would like to have Artist/Album directories on the Archos in order to stay under the 400 files per directory limit as well as make it easy to find the files
on the archos.
Is there a way or piece of software that will export my one huge directory of mp3s into smaller folders of artist and album on my Archos player so that I can deal with them easier on the player. I've heard that the program Visual MP3 can do this ( with its MP3 search wizard and batch catalog features), but it keeps crashing on my computer. Are there any other programs out there that can do this?
Also, say I do manage to have all my mp3s in one directory on my PC and get my desired Artist/Album directory structure on the Archos. Is there a program that will sync my PC mp3s and mp3 playlists with the Archos, given the Archos' different directory structure?
Thanks so much for your help!
I have a .bat file that sorts my download folder.
contents of the file are below
move c:\downloads\a*.* c:\sort\a\*.* /y
move c:\downloads\b*.* c:\sort\b\*.* /y
move c:\downloads\c*.* c:\sort\c\*.* /y
move c:\downloads\d*.* d:\sort\d\*.* /y
and so on.
To do this just make a file in notepad and save it as a .bat file.
Then run it when you need to sort your files.
The /y at the end of the move command makes it so that the computer doesn't ask me for permission to overwrite, or move a read only file.
When I click on "albums" on my iPhone, it brings up a list of albums separated by artist (i.e. if there are three different artists tagged in one compilation album, all three of them have their own folder). This is a problem for me because sometimes I want to listen to an entire album on shuffle, the same way I'd want to listen to a specific artist's songs on shuffle. Some compilation albums have works from several different artists so each folder has only one or two songs. Is it possible to make it sort only by album, or to just tell it to play several albums at once? I'm not talking about playlists; this is for a quick sort, shuffle, and play.
Ive sorted all my music into folders, but some don't have artist/album names, such as:
i've right clicked and clicked rename, but it comes up as:
i've also clicked properties etc, but no joy there:
has anyone any idea how to do this?
im on Windows Vista Basic.
and its just your average folder.
its really bugging me!
Have you tried clicking the empty space inline with the track under Artist/Album etc.

After 3 years for performing great my other Dell will now not boot as the "set-up" shows, "unknown device" for my hard drive. How do I try to fix that? Disconect ribbon cables and re-install them? I'm sorta at a loss. Any ideas?

Im converting about 1000 flac files to mp3 from a bunch of different bands. While converting they are being output into one big mass of songs.
Is there any software out there that will read the albums/artist from the details and create the folders for each and place each song in there respective folder?
Basically...if theres 10 songs that are from one album, i want them in a folder named that album. Can anything read the details and do this for me, i really dont want to spend hours doing this manually
I had used Media Monkey once to do that.
It worked really well.
Screenshot of my situation: http://i31.tinypic.com/e8txr7.png
I am aware that most or all of these song files do actually contain information on them, since I had them in an old computer, and everything was just fine. On this machine all the columns show blank.
I got tons of song files from various sources and none of them show any information under folder explorer. When I add them to the Winamp playlist the tags show normally, however by hitting Properties > Summary on any file I don't see any information there as well.
Thank you for your time, in advance.
How do you make it, so that when a Nero-burned Audio CD (a compilation, not a copied CD) is played in Windows Media Player, the Album name, Track name and Artist name appears. My MP3's have ID3 Tags, they don't show up when burned on a CD. I'm not talking about CD-Text, that's different.
Currently, all I get when I play the disc in Media Player is something like:
Unknown Artist
Track 1
I actually want the Artist name, Track names and Album name to show up in the player.

I REALLY WILL STOP SURFING PORN NOW
pops up new ie windows (not tabs) that link to random sites, often unknown search engines showing results for last string searched on google, often for other random things (news 6 live, adfat, sals barbershop). seemingly benign.
After some time of this, more serious infections occur, including antivirus soft, many others.
Malabytes will knock out what it brings in, but not kill the initial infection.
have run malabytes in safe mode, safe mode + neworking, and mutiple times after knocking out later more malicious infections in both safe mode and regular. Sometimes picks up a few stragglres, sometimes not. But in all cases I still have the original thing which pops up a new ie window to some odd thing and presumably opens the door for the rest.
Any help greatly appreciated, and, really, despite any other sex life to speak of, sad though that may be, I will leave the porn sites alone after this.

15 more repliesI'm not sure if this forum supports Windows installed on a MacBook,
but I'd appreciate any help provided.
Regarding my laptop, it's a MacBook Pro bought around 2011,
witn Windows 7 x64 installed from my friend's disc.
(Sorry I cannot remember exactly what it was)
"Barely alive" condition.
Works fine, but suddenly shuts down at times, alert shows battery not inserted (UNDETACHABLE on this MacBook model), won't run without power adapter connected, immediately shuts down when inserting USB cable into 1 of the 2 USB ports, won't detect internet connection, and so on and so on......
That aside, it worked fine until last week.
I was running Windows Update when I accidentally insert USB cable into the wrong port and "forced shut down" the laptop.
When rebooted, I get a flash of BSOD and auto-restart, which leads to startup repair.
From there, I ran startup repair a few times, each time I get the successful result yet Windows still won't start.
Then I switched to Mac OS to use it for some urgent stuff.
While in Mac OS I did went around and did "repair disk" and stuff to the bootcamp.
Next I tried searching for solutions through my phone and did this and that on command prompt.
chkdsk bootrec etc etc tried all posted solutions to something similar to my case.
The next thing I realized was that I now cannot even choose "Windows" on boot and I got stuck.
Then I asked my neighbor and fortunately could borrow Window... Read more

I had to reformat my computer thanks to a handful of Trojans and of course, I am missing the Ethernet driver to connect. In the past, I had a friend set me up, but he never told me how to do it and he's gone in basic training so I can't ask for his help today.

I will have Windows XP HOME installed when I get the cash.
What I need is help figuring out where to look to find the model number to install the correct driver. I have tried the HP website and it does not work; My driver is built into the motherboard.

Recently my computer (Dell Dimension 8100, Win98SE) developed a problem with Outlook. I tried everything to resolve it, including uninstall and reinstall. I finally reformatted and reloaded everything. On the first time around it didn't automatically reload the chipset and I had never had that happen before, so I missed it completely and loaded other hardware before I realized that I had then screwed up the IRQ settings, so I reformatted and reloaded again. I also upgraded from IE 5.0 to IE 6.0.
I'm also having problems where if Outlook is receiving mail a Word document will not load until it is done. There is a severe delay in windows opening from one application to another at different times that I can't pin down.
Sometimes the screen doesn't refresh properly.
I had continual problems trying to install Shockwave and Flash, so I restored IE 5.0 and upgraded to 5.5. I now regularly have a problem with this. I was in the process of updating several sata controllers and chipset drivers. I also installed a new USB 3.0 hub and was in the process of moving around several devices between ports. I had a problem with my keyboard which uses USB 2.0 as a connector but I would recieve a "Unknown USB Device (Port Reset Failed)" code 43 on every port on the USB 3.0 Hub. I had to reconnect the SATA cables because it got disconnected while I was moving my PC around. Upon the last restart of my PC.
I checked Disk Managment and noticed lots of system reserved partitions and drives which were not there before. I have no idea what happened but I think updating several drivers and the combination of reinstalling USB ports via device manager or the optical drive being reconnected may have messed up how windows used to have system reserves as partitions. I only had one visible system reserved drive before, now I have 2 visible and lettered system reserved drives.
I also have a unknown partition at the top of the list, I cannot right click that partition and select any options. The only option in my context menu is Help which brings me a link to Overview of Disk Management
I also had my video quick access as my DVD optical drive when I restarted. I have fixed this issue by changing my quick access links back to their proper folders... Read more
Hello taqiyya6 Welcome to the Ten Forums!
Your problem is actually quite basic. You are going into the Disk Managetool and seeing system reserved partitions mounted and assigned drive letters where they shouldn't be seeing any! The 450mb partition is there to allow changing from the MBR type primary to the GPT type usually seen with server set up or large volumes exceeding 2tb in size such as installing and partitioning a new 2.5tb, 3tb, 4tb, or even one of the latest 5tb drives.
The sight of the System Reserved partition being present on the second Disk 1 500gb drive simply shows that had previously seen a Windows installation on it at some time likely before adding in the large 1tb Disk 0 drive you have the present install on. The most likely to succeed option for taking care of the smaller 500gb if nothing is on it would be a complete wipe and a fresh single partition intended for storage and backup. That would eliminate the first SR but not small second unless using an open source type partiioning utility like GParted while still an option to close up the small gap since it is only a 500gb and not exceeding the 2tb mark.
For cleaning the mess overall however going into the Device Manager and knocking out drivers before a full restart would allow Windows to redetect the drives fresh without seeing the System Reserved and MBR parts mounted again at least on the OS drive being the main concern since the SR part has to remain invisible as a system protected space not mount... I'm not sure if this forum supports Windows installed on a MacBook,
but I'd appreciate any help provided.
Read more

Bring up an album in Groove, click on 'More...', then click on 'Get album info'.
Is the album art in the Now Playing screen really that blurry? All of my files have HD album arts, but when played in Groove, it shows pixelated album arts, and it's a major eyesore for me.
It really is that blurry on mine.
Albums purchased from the Store have high res graphics. Older imports don't.
Even tried 'updating album info' and even though it replaced the artwork, was still low res.
I guess older albums may just have limits on the quality available.

I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 on a 500 Gig hard drive with 3 partitions. The problem is I marked one of the partitions, not Drive C, as "active" by mistake.I done a Command Prompt to make it "inactive", but when I started the system up again it wouldn't boot.I used the Vista disk for the recovery process, but I got a message "Operating system unknown on (unknown) local disk" i tried fixing the problem with a command prompt "bootrec/fix boot" ,but nothing happened. When I look at the info in Command Prompt it doesn't show the disk partitions, just Disk 0.Also I can't repair because no Disks are listed to be repaired. If I look at the drive in "My Computer" it is full with a file system marked as "Raw" and it wants me to format the drive.I used "Recover My Files" software and it shows some of the documents that are on the drive, but doesn't show any recovery.I looked at some internet post about the message I got and partition and boot problems like I have, but at this point I don't to try any else to make it worse.I would do a reinstall ,but on one of the drives I have some stuff that wasn't backed up.I never thought about backing it up because it wasn't on the C drive.Any help to solve this problem would be appreciated. ..........Kumpie
Welcome!
Try marking the C partition as active again, using the Windows method in my post here.
Then run Startup Repair from the repair disc. Hopefully it will see your installation.

5 more repliesI am using Windows 7 Ultimate x64 SP1. I ran HijackThis as you do and saw the following line which I removed.
Internet Settings, ProxyServer = 127.0.0.1:19876When running DDS in the dds.txt file I found these settings which may be unrelated but I cannot explain them.TCP: Interfaces\{5D969EFE-1A71-4BC0-950C-B6214B4FC1DD} : DHCPNameServer = 88.82.13.60 88.82.13.60When I found these items I ran CCleaner just to lighten the amount I needed to scan. Then I ran ComboFix and Malwarebytes Antimalware and found nothing. I then used GMER and removed a virtual cdrom that had been sitting on my computer long after Deamon Tools had been removed.
It is the proxy server that worries me. Doing a quick search of it there does seem to be a Trojan keylogger that will listen on that port.

13 more repliesI successfully downloaded a new Album from Amazon.com The Album Does show up in Windows Media player and will come up in a generic computer search of either the Album title or artist. It is located in the same file with the rest of my collection. This new Album, however, does not show up in Groove and if I search for either the Album title or Artist name in the Groove app I get the message "Sorry we didn't find that in your collection". Any explanations?
More repliesI have Norton (on windows 8.1) and the only file Norton doesn't list a Trust level (shows Unknown) is the file app2.ini.exe (also app2.ini.exe.aux) and the only info I can find on the net is that viruses sometimes are named this to Hide.
Does anyone know what this file does? Can I delete it? Is it safe?
I called Microsoft and they said that these files aren't one of theirs (???).
Norton also lists this file isn't on a lot of peoples computers, which is a red flag.
Hi,
I've been struggling for months with this problem.
My laptop won't connect to some networks. Usually there are networks like that on my university or other shared networks.
The problem I get is that it doesn't recognize the DNS server. Usually it is solved whenever I restart my laptop, but then the problem returns after a while.
I have entered a automatic DNS address, tried programmes that have flushed my DNS and so on, but nothing seems to help. Is there any other solution out there that will allow me to stay connected?
Thanks
Welcome to the forum try setting dns to 208.67.222.222 & 208.67.220.220 the error can be you have no connection as that will give a dns error as well
3 more repliesI turned on computer today and I saw that I have two mouses on screen. My main mouse is movable and I can work normally with it, but second one is stuck on top left corner and it's copying my main mouse icon (hand, arrow, typing icon).
And then I don't know why but I have looked into System Resolution control panel and I saw that I have a third monitor that weren't supposed to be there. Resolution is 640x480, and it's number 1, and my primary monitor is number 2.
I can't turn off that monitor ("Show picture just on 1" (my primary monitor)) like I had it before.
I am posting screenshots.
I am sorry for my English, because English is not my primary language.
Simple restart solved both problems

Hi,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
I?m sorry to inform that it is a false indication from Lenovo solution center. Since Windows doesn?t detect any missing device drivers within the device manager, there is no driver that is missing.
If the warning keeps popping up, change the reminder settings to ?never?. Probably, you have to wait for an LSC update in which the bug would be fixed.
Refer here for further information regarding the issue.
Hope it helped!

Hello. My computer recently (less than a day ago) started to display User Account Control prompts whenever I deleted or copied that weren't in the "Users" folder, such as the Program Files folder. I am using an Administrator account, and the User Account Control is set to notify when programs make changes to Windows but without dimming my desktop. Whenever I try to delete any type of file not in the Users folder, the User Account Control prompt pops up like in the attachment. I believe there is something wrong with the "File Operation" program, because I'd imagine it would be signed by Microsoft and would automatically be elevated to Admin status so the prompt shouldn't show in the first place. Clicking on "Change when these notifications appear" doesn't do anything, but I am able to copy/delete files after clicking "yes".
I'd really appreciate help, because it's getting annoying getting this prompt whenever I want to delete or copy a file, and this prompt never appeared before when I was just deleting a file until a day ago. I'm using Windows 7. I'm just using a Windows 8 RP theme. Also, I don't want to disable UAC, since it lowers security.
I feel perhaps something happened to that certain registry key or keys related to it. But I'm not sure.
EDIT: I figured out that something was wrong with shell32.dll, so I replaced it with an unmodified copy of the file from another computer and the prompt doesn't come up anymore.
*bump* same problem
2 more repliesHello,
I have ran avast antivirus but everytime it does not delete the infected .sys file , as it seems to replicate even if the antivirus deletes it over and over again. In addition, the mail scanner of avast pops up and shows services.exe and svchost.exe sending mail to unknown senders. The computer appears to be slower than usual and often has a hard time booting even in safe mode. the machine is runnning windows xp SP2 and has 256mb of ram. I have no idea how the virus came into the pc as i am not the main user, maybe an out of date java problem?
I hope the information is helpful to see some light on this problem.
P.S windows xp is in french on this computer if it's of any relevance
Thanx a lot in advance!

Can you use "Hey Cortana" in Windows 10 to play specific song, album, or artist from your music? I'm hoping to be able to do this, similar to the way Amazon Echo works. I'm running Windows 10 10158, but so far I can't get it to work.

3 more repliesI have a hard drive with XP Home on it that I need to get data off of after the partition blew up and now shows up as "Unknown" in XP setup and "RAW" in disk manager. The utility partition and recovery partition form the hard drive are still intact but not the OS partition.
I've already run chkdsk /r , fixboot and fixmbr to no avail. The hard drive ran without errors in HDAT2 and the IBM HD utility, no bad sectors or anything. When I ran fixboot it did tell me there was an error and it took 3 tries to write the new boot sector then I tried another chkdsk /r and still nada.
Anyone have a clue how to fix the file system so I can get this data off the hard drive?

Win7, latest version of Media Player. I have a ton of music that all of a sudden is shown in Media Player as "Unknown Artist", "Unknown Album". The track names are still OK, and the actual MP3 files are still in the original locations (\\Music\Artist\Album\## TrackName) (where ## = track number).
iTunes shows everything properly, but Media Player is wrong. I've tried a tag editor but even with the correct settings, it doesn't want to re-tag the files - it wants to rename them. The tags within the files are correct.
Wondering if there's a "cache" of some sort, or another way to force Media Player to re-scan my entire library, and update the tags based on the directory structure. Any ideas?
The basic problem here is that iTunes use ID3v2.4 tags, Windows (and WMP) uses ID3v2.3 tags and can't read ID3v2.4. So if you update the tags with iTunes and then add those tracks to WMP they're going to show up as "Unknown Artist". This is always going to cause problems if you try to use both iTunes and WMP libraries at the same time.
So pick which one you like better to use as your primary library and use the other one as a player only. You can use Mp3tag to take a look at the tags, see which versions are on the files and convert ones that are incorrect.
If you use iTunes as your primary library then I would delete the WMP database. But before you do you should turn off monitor folders so that WMP doesn't automatically add music files to it's library. Here's how to delete the database, ignore the last step:

Hi All,
Maybe I'm just bad at searching the internet, but I've spent 2 days looking for a solution to a pretty major problem, and I'm astounded I seem to be the only person in the world with it.
I just did a clean install of Windows 7 Pro. On my old box, I had one huge folder with all my thousands of MP3s, which I copied into "My Music" on my new Win7 box.
When I started up WMP for the first time, I set the options to automatically download info from the net, rename files based on tag info, etc, as I had never bothered to do anything like this before to organize my mp3s. Immediately WMP went to work updating my mp3s. Good stuff.
Now to illustrate the problem. Lets use the example of 5 Aerosmith songs I have from the album Get a Grip. When WMP was all done with scanning my mp3s and updating info, everything appeared fine in WMP. That is, I could scroll to artist "Aerosmith" and then to the album "Get a Grip" complete with cover art, and see the 5 songs. Again, good stuff. Then I clicked "Show file location" and noticed something weird...
WMP player had automatically created the folder My Music\Aerosmith\Get a Grip. Awesome. Problem is, the "Get a Grip" folder only had 4 songs, despite the fact that in WMP I could see FIVE songs in the album. I searched for the 5th song and noticed that it was still orphaned in the base My Music folder. Why the hell hadn't it been moved with the rest? When I did some pok... Read more
The reason you couldn't fix the data with a tag editor is that Album Artist is a field that's only stored on the WMP database and isn't written to a tag, so the only way to edit that field is through WMP.
Whenever you update your music information with an internet lookup the results are mixed, something will always get screwed up whether you use WMP or other software and then to use that data to change folder locations compounds the problem. You should only lookup an album at a time so you can fix any errors manually. I personally never let any software move my files around, it's asking for trouble.
My best advice is to not use WMP to store your music, the only thing I use WMP for is for viewing video. Try MediaMonkey it does a much better job of organizing music. It's also a good idea to use a tag editor so for that try Mp3tag.
