Preferred Solution: Since my WIN 10 upgrade from WIN 7..my OFFICE programs don't work?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Since my WIN 10 upgrade from WIN 7..my OFFICE programs don't work?

What office programs are you trying to use?
What happens when you try to use it/them?
Any error messages or notification messages?

I am using MS Office 2007 mostly without trouble. However whenever I try to click a hyperlink in Outlook mail or other programs (Excel, Word etc) they fail with the alert "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system operator". There used to be a fix which worked for a few days but the fault keeps coming back. Has anybody solved this or managed to remove these "restrictions"?

Hello,

A charity is considering upgrading its workstations to Office 2013 from Office 2007.
They have lots of files in the .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xltm formats that they would need to access on a daily basis.

- Would the upgrade cause compatability problems with working with files created under these above formats?

Answer:Considering upgrade to Office 2013 - potential problems with Office 2007 files?

To my knowledge, they should not have any issues.

I have Office 2007 and it seems to me that most tasks require an extra click. Let me explain. In Office 2007 if I want to print I have to click on the office button on the top left and then click print. In Office 2003 there was a print icon on the taskbar that required one click. Is there anyway to setup Office 2007 so that some basic functions (print, save, open, etc.) can be accomplished with one click?

I'm on Windows XP w/SP2. It had Office 2003. I've had my computer since 2004.
Before I installed Office 2007, Office '03 worked fine. Then I needed '07 for a college class and installed a trial. Office '07 worked fine, but the MS Word shortcut in my quicklaunch bar pointed to Word '03 still. Whenever I'd hit it by accident, it would try to install Office '03("Please wait while Windows Configures Microsoft Office Professional Edition 2003). I canceled it on the second screen and it worked anyway.

The second screen had this:
Installation Error: File not Found

A required installation file SKU1E3.CAB could not be found.

Before, I'd hit cancel and MS Word '03 would get to working anyway. Then I'd close it and go into Word 07. I think there was some error message, but I don't remember it. Now, I just uninstalled an Office '07 trial. The same thing is happening again, but now when I hit cancel, it says "fatal error during installation." It's a different error message from the one I got last time.

I really need help here. I've got homework due tomorrow for some online classes, and need Word to do it.

I tried going into control panel > Add/Remove Programs > Office '03 and clicking change to do the repair thing, but it led to the same problem.

Thanks in advance. If you need any more information to help, please let me know. I can't open any Office items. This Windows Installe... Read more

Any idea when Office 2013 will be available for download / upgrade?

Thanks!

Answer:Purchased Office 2010 w/ free upgrade to Office 2013

Hi there
it's in the Ms store already -- although IMO I'd stick to Office 2010 if I were you.
Anyway YMMV so here's the link (UK store) .

Microsoft Store United Kingdom Online Store - Office Suites

What you'd do to get the upgrade price I don't know but Office 2013 IS available for download. Try phoning / emailing -- actually a better option these days is to use a FAX believe it or not for this type of question. Emails tend to get lost as people have 100'000's to deal with, phone calls are diabolical --endless menu systems, loads of waiting and people on the other side of the planet who are incredibly difficult to understand.

The lowly fax machine when it chatters into life usually gets INSTANT attention these days . !!

Does anyone know if I can easily upgrade my Office 2003 Student version to Office Basic or Standard upgrade versions2007?

Answer:Upgrade Office 2003 Student to Office Basic 2007

Yes, the 2007 Home and Student version of Office 2007 will do it. There's no upgrade for it, just the CD with Word, Excel, Power Point and One Note, stick it in and follow the install instructions. However, if you're going to be using Office 2007 and transferring files between versions i.e. Office 2007 at home and Office 2003 somewhere else, it's worth knowing that Office 2007 uses a new file format that isn't recognised by earlier versions of Office. For Word its .docx, for Excel its .xlsx, and Powerpoint .pptx.You can download software for earlier versions to read the new format, or alternatively, anything you may transfer can be saved in the old format. Thought I'd point it out as you mention a student version of Office 2003, and not all institutions will be using Office 2007 yet.

I did an upgrade installation from Office 2003 PRO to Office 2010 PRO. I had several issues with Access denied on C:\Config.msi. I usually select retry and all is well. I think I may have missed one of the retries before I did the system restart.
Now I get an error 2203 whenever I reboot, and the Office 2003 installer keeps popping up anytime I try to do anything.
I tried uninstalling Office 2003 and was told that I had a corrupted install. I tried re-installing it and it seems to just hang.
I also tried to uninstall and repair Office 2010.

I'm at a loss at this point.

I have 2 different Windows 7 systems that have this problem. When I install Office 2007 using the "Upgrade" option it does not remove Office 2003 and leaves the system in a confused state, especially in regards to Outlook. When I initially start Outlook it will say it is configuring Outlook 2007, but subsequent screens indicate an Outlook 2003 utility is being used.

With great pain I can manually set the default email client and do other pieces of the configuration and get Outlook 2007 running, but as soon as I reboot the system, it reverts to a confused state. I have tried all four methods Microsoft prescribes in KB2639197 to remove Office 2003. I have also used 3rd party uninstallers?specifically Revo and CCleaner. It still comes back after a reboot. I have removed BOTH Office 2007 and Office 2003 and I can reboot any number of times and it stays uninstalled, but as soon as I insert the Office 2007 install disc it ONLY gives me the upgrade option and returns to this state where both 2003 and 2007 products appear installed in a confused state.

Answer:Office 2007 Upgrade - Office 2003 Remains and won't go away

You could do a System Restore, if the restore point is there from when Office 2k3 was installed. You can also try Microsoft's Fix It tool at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/...3/140b4079-8899-4f15-a86c-608babe588bb?auth=1 but you need the original install disc and the key for Office 2003. Or the Office Removal Wizard http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/office-2003-resource-kit/office-removal-wizard-HA001140177.aspx

I just purchased a Win 8 laptop (HP Pavilion Notebook PC) for $400, after returning a Surface Pro 2 (total cost $1500 +).
The Surface Pro 2 with touch screen was a nightmare to use.
The HP has a no-touch screen and I like that.

I want to keep up with the technology so that is the reason for the new HP unit.
I have Office 2003 on the XP and I am aware that it most likely will not perform on the Win 8 device.
So, do I buy Office 2010 and will it work the same way, allowing me to store all my emails on the hard drive?
Or, does the new Office 2010 or 2013 store that info on a remote server (cloud)?

Additionally, is there a way to emulate Windows Xp on the
new computer, not that it’s a major requirement, just curious?

Hi,

Recently, my MS Office got bugged by a virus problem, and I had to uninstall it and I cannot install it back!!

I was thinking, if I was ever in need of opening and editing an office file like .doc, .ppt, or OneNote files, are there any portable softwares that can open the files without needing to install them?
By that I mean, are there any software programs other than Microsoft Office that can open and edit the files.

Answer:Solved: MS Office XP upgrade to MS Office 2003

You should be able to purchase an upgrade to Office 2003, as long as you have a qualifying program in your computer. Once you have upgraded, don't get rid of the older program! You'll never be able to do an uninstall/reinstall without the qualifying program (which I found out to my disgust and chagrin).

I've been thinking about upgrading and have a few questions about doing so.1. Will office 2007 install over 2003?2. If not and I have to un-install 2003, do I have to backup all my contacts and email?3. I have noticed that 2007 has an instant search facility, do I really need that in a home environment?4. This might sound like a repeat, but, if 2007 installs over 2003 will the new program keep all my contacts and email?Thats all I can think of for the present, but if anyone who answers this epistle could tell me how they are getting along with 2007 and what are the pitfalls if any to the program itself. Thanks for listening. J.B.

Answer:Upgrade Office 2003 to Office 2007

What edition of Office 2007 are you looking at buying and more importantly WHAT do you expect out of your Office 2007 experience. Yes the interface is different, there are new file formats and wizards - but if you are happy with Office 2003 then you may not find 2007 much different. That said - I used both and I prefer 2007. As a student, the obvious choice for me was Home & Student 2007 - I only upgraded to make use of the new reviewing tools in Word, such as the tri-pane review feature - which has greatly helped in writing my thesis. That said, the Home version can be installed on 3 PC's, but doesn't include Outlook - so your contact an e-mail question is moot if you want this version. (You get a useless copy of Onenote instead, why not Access?!) So you will need Office Standard and up for Outlook...If you purchase a non-upgrade edition then you can install Office 2007 alongside 2003 - the only problem here is that Outlook must either be 2003 OR 2007, can't be both. I found that my installation of Office was installed in the same place as my previous Office XP installation and the programmes were removed automatically (except for the ones that aren't included in my 2007 version.)Can't comment specifically with Outlook as I have a uni account with e-mail facilities so I don't use the software...You ask about pitfalls - well be aware that Office 2007 saves all files in a new XML format, whilst you can read older formats from previous versions, the older versions CANNOT by defa... A friend of my wife's has 'consulted' me about something I know nothing about (now that's unusual since I keep telling people I know everything!).

Her computer is nearly as old as mine and is a Dell with 98SE, PentiumIII, 128MB RAM and 12GB HDD (nearly 10GB free space). It is mostly used for word processing and emailing but not for serious surfing.

It currently has Office 97 which includes Word (or is it the other way round?) Her employer has offered to upgrade her in stages to Office 2000 and then 2003, so that she can do more work from home.

What she wants to know is whether the newer programs can be installed without first uninstalling 97 and risking the loss of the documents she has created with 97 (and with the MS Graphics program),which are currently stored in My Documents. I thought it would be OK but don't actually know, hence this post.

She has plenty of HD space but I wonder if the other system requirements of the newer programs would make the upgrade difficult or even impossible.

Hello,

I've just upgraded an old Win ME system with a PIII 800 MHz processor, 128 M Ram to XP Home. After doing so, I noticed that many of the programs that were on the Add/Remove Programs List are no longer there. I also notice that I can't install or uninstall ZoneAlarm Free because TrueVector is said to be running.

I don't understand why TrueVector would be running if ZoneAlarm is 'not installed'. If I end the task and try to install or uninstall ZA, I'm still not successful.

When booting the system, there appears to be a lot of disk activity - like if there is a virus scan taking place at boot up. Norton System Works was installed previously, but I don't see it in the Add/Remove Programs list or the Start Programs List.

I've done the Malware Scans, as documented in the Malware Forums, and run HJT which currently shows no signs of malware. So I'm wondering if there are some known issues with upgrading from ME to XP Home that would cause this kind of strange behavior.

Can you offer any other suggestions to try to resolve this issue? The virtual memory is reported to be too low. It's set at 384 M.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Bper

Answer:Missing Programs in Add/Remove Programs After XP Home Upgrade

To change the virtual memory (paging file size)

-control panel
-system
-Advanced
-Performance - settings
-Advanced
-Virtual memory - change
-custom size

I would just set the initial and the maximum to the recommended size
listed near the bottom of the box (mine is 1150)
depends on how large your hard drive is as to how much you want to hand over

-set

-Ok
-Ok
-Ok

64MB of RAM is the bare minimum needed to run windows XP
128MB of RAM is the minimum recommended by windows XP
256MB of RAM or more will make a huge difference

I dont really see what this would have to do with your programs acting up though
Your best bet would be to back up all of your data, settings etc
and reformat your hard drive to achieve a clean instal of Windows XP

Friend's computer started up with a Critical Warning image and telling him to download this antispyware thing in order to remove it. Some files that I found connected with this are: FNTCACHE, critical_warning.html, AVR09, winhelper.dll, and 41. I tried running DDS but to no success. Same with Rootkit Repealer. I managed to install and run Hitman Pro 3.5 and Malwares Bytes Antimalware, but both were stopped after a few seconds within scanning. Afterwards, they didn't work at all. Couldn't install Superantispyware or CCleaner. Spybot Search and Destroy was changed to read only and Ad-Aware wouldn't work. Any suggestions? Is there any program out there that manages to get rid of this?

Hi, hope someone can offer me some help. I need to be able to work from home, accessing all the emails/files/applications etc on my office server and office networked PC. Having done some research it would appear that a VPN could be the answer. In the office we run SBS 2003 and currently have a BT router. I am advised that this does not have a firewall. The office server is connected to Broadband. At home I run Windows XP Pro and am connected to Broadband. So my question really is - what additional software/hardware will I require to make this work? I think I read somewhere that a RADIUS server may be required? I'm not entirely clear what that is.Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have other posts on my VISTA reinstall problems but I'll make it short to say I had to reinstall my OS. Knowing I had to reinstall Office, I also installed Works 9.0 that came with computer (Dell). Now, that is exactly what was installed before when I installed the Office 2007 just fine the first time (pre-reinstall of VISTA).

However, now when I go to install Office, it tells me it can't find a required upgrade product. On the box Works 9 is listed as an eligible product and that is what I have installed. It gives me an option to browse to the folder where it is installed but I've tried and don't quite know where to point it to find what it wants. Works seems to be in many folders.

Does anyone know what I can do? I don't have internet on that specific computer right now because of the VISTA reinstall issues (see other post) has created an issue with all the network drivers.

I have a copy of MS Office Professional 2003 that has been installed and working fine for 2 years. Now (perhaps as a result of a Microsoft update ?) I am told that it is not genuine and will fail to work in 10 days. The invalidity is confirmed at http://www.microsoft.com/Genuine/ It seems this is part of a bunch of product keys that purport to be one in a series of a volume licence but were really stolen.

I have installed my most used programs without issues (they were win 7 compatible). I have tried to install 2 program the were listed on the MS compatability list, one was Samsung PC studio for my cell phone and the other was Dacal CD Library 4.0 for my CD library on my CD Carousel.

Even tried to uninstall and reinstalled it and still nothing would never run after the first time.
The same thing happed with Samsung PC Studio. Worked fine the first time and the next day the same thing; wouldn’t load…nothing nada.

My Excell and Word files take forever to load up. I have removed lots of unused programs from my computer and ran Virus scans, all to no avail. I am running Windows XP sp2. I have restored my computer to earlier dates and still have the problem.

I would appreacate any suggestions.

Thanks

I am trying to use EndNote to automatically insert references into Word documents. I have gone through the entire process of activating the add-in and it now appears under the "Active Application Add-Ins" list that I can access through windows button-----> Word Options--------> Add-Ins. However, no Add-Ins button appears next to the "Home", "Insert", "Page Layout" etc. buttons on the ribbon. I have been able to add the "Developer" button on the ribbon, but cannot access the "Add-In" button. This problem is not unique to Word, the button is lacking from Powerpoint and Excel as well. Can someone please show me how to make this button appear? Do I have to uninstall then reinstall Office 2007 altogether?

Answer:add-ins tab does not appear in Office 2007 programs

Hi there, welcome to the board!

Usually this tab will appear when you have an add-in loaded, either through the addin_install event, or through the file_open event (file being whatever program you're working in) with a recognized add-in extension. I am unfamiliar with the file you've described. Can you tell us how you're using it? What version was this made for? Is there even a UI with it? Is this a dll for all Office applications?

I tried to load ms office 2000 into my computer when it was nearly finished loading it gave me a message saying that "this program has performed an illegal function and will be shutdown". I have the software legally. So by the time the computer finished rebooting I tried to open MS word and it said that it was not installed. Same message for Excel and Access. Any thoughts, I'll take any help you can give me. My OS is Windows 98.

Hi,
An illegal function has nothing to do with the legality of the software - it merely means that the software tried to run in some way that was incompatible with either the hardware on which it is running or it is interfering with some other program that is running. These can be memory errors, or attempts to use areas that are reserved for, say, the operating system.
My suggestion would be to reboot and then reload Office 2000.

The MS Office programs on my PC are now very slow to start, to save, and especially to close. I work with several windows open for different office programs with several spreadsheets on the go, each new spreadsheet now takes an age to initiate or close (after saving). This I think happened suddenly a couple of months back and is getting worse.I have reloaded MS Office 97 pro, reloaded MS Win98se, regular defrags, scandisc, emptyied temp files etc. Have McAfee antivirus. PC is AMD (I think 800mhz), 256mb RAM, system resourses are regularly down to 45 or 50%, with only 3gb used on 20gb HD. I use it daily for work purposes. Help

Answer:programs (MS Office) are now very slow

Only a thought.Have you tried it in safe mode and see if the same thing happens. If not, go to start run type in msconfig and remove everything but systray from the startup. Reboot and see if that helps. If that be the case, add one item from startup at a time to find a poss, program culprit if there is one.

have windows 95 and office 95 on a old 486dx100 system and recently started getting "windows can not initialize " error message when I try to get into word or publisher etc.

Any help would be great.

Answer:Office 95 programs can't initialize

On a machine that old I would definitely star with defragging the swap file and clean the hard drive.

If you need instructions you can find them at.

Hopefully, someone can point me in the right direction to fix this problem. Brand new Toshiba laptop. Came pre-installed with Windows 7 and Microsoft Office. Computer has Realtek HD Audio. I have verified that it is running the latest driver. The Equalizer, Environment and Loudness Equalization boxes are all checked under Speaker Enhancements. Sound is awesome on the video and audio ...however system sounds are weak and all sounds in Microsoft Office will not play at all.

Deleted the trial version pre-installed and loaded my own copy of Office 2007 (which works fine on other computer). All programs are checked for "feedback with sound". Still no sound in Office.

Called Toshiba and they say it is a Microsoft issue and they cannot help me. Tried to contact Microsoft and they say because it is pre-installed I can only get help from Toshiba.

Since no sound will work in any version of Office...2007 or 2010 beta....but works everywhere else I have to assume the issue is with Windows 7. Problem is how do I re-install it when it was pre-loaded and I have no discs. Or is there some minute setting I can change in Windows to make it work right? It is either fix it or send the computer back.

Hopefully someone can help. I have been searching the net for three days and have yet to see a similar problem.

Answer:No sound in Office programs

Have you tried installing Office Sounds?

I have it installed and it seems to work with 7 and Office 2010, although I had to manually edit the location of .wav files that were created by the above installation for events that didn't have them mapped.

Also, check your current Sounds settings in Personalization - does your sound scheme have sound events for Office - now?

Hi all - I'm cringing already at the responses I suspect I'm going to get to this question.

I've had to reformat my hard-drive (again). I backed up everything to an external hard-drive and specifically selected everything in the Microsoft Office folders.

Of course, now, the software won't load. The error I get is "the operating system is not presently configured to run this application."

Why do I care? Because I lost my stinking Office 2007 cd (and case ... with the key ...).

My reformatted hard drive has a "Windows Old" file. Any solution contained in there?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Office Programs Migrate-able?

how did you back up the software - did you do an image copy or ghost copy of the harddrive - or just copy some files

if just copied some files - then you are going to need to find the CD and key

as you formatted and re-installed across the harddrive - I'm not sure theres much you can do

Hi all - I'm cringing already at the responses I suspect I'm going to get to this question.Click to expand...

I think you know the answer - unless you have proof of ownership of office 2007 to discuss with MS - I think you will have to buy it again

Hi, i'm having a recurring problem with my pc. I've got XP and most programs work ok, but for a while now i keep losing Word & Excel. I've now got a new Office 2007 disc, everything loads perfectly, but when i try to open anything (Word, Excel, Powerpoint or Outlook) i get the eggtimer for a while then it just stops - haven't managed to open anything yet. I've got the free AVG, i've run a few uninstalls with Revo, i've tried running SuperAntiSpyware and Spybot, but am getting nowhere. I tried doing a system restore to a few weeks ago, but it says it can't restore. Not really getting any error messages, apart from a couple of 'have to close Powerpoint, do you want to send error report'
I ran a HijackThis if this provides any clues, please could someone help me get this sorted - it's driving me mad!

I use Excel all the time but it doesn't show up in the Most Used area. When apps are in that section they get the little pop out window so I can go directly to a specific XLS file without having to open Excel first and then go open it.

Is there any way to force Excel to go into that list? It was in there on my previous computer but I just can't get it in there on my current one.

Thanks!

I had to upgrade my Office 2000 applications to Office XP, unfortunately as it turned out...

When I try to run Outlook now it opens, a flash screen appears that it is migrating, and then it shuts down... I did the registry fix on Microsoft's Knowledgebase, to no avail...

I need to use Outlook urgently, so I need help as in yesterday!

Please help!!

Answer:Office XP programs shut down

Look for all your .pst files and save them somewhere. Uninstall outlook and reinstall. It looks as though you upgraded (ouch, I rarely get an upgrade to work correctly) If that is the case install the 2000 version first download all of it's patches and then upgrade to Office XP. Once reinstalled import your .pst files.

I recently bought an Acer Aspire 5739G and have installed Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. The problem is that when the computer is started up, the first program used will always freeze and become non-responsive. A message will then be displayed saying 'Found new Hardware', which once maximised tells me to download an updated RAS Async Adaptor. I have tried and paid to correct this problem, but nothing seems to be working. After the message has been displayed, the program stays locked and I have either exited the program, which results in the program freezing for a further 10 minutes and then closing themselves or using the task manager. The program can be minimised and I am able to continue with other tasks whilst this is in progress unhindered and the programs work fine after this initial problem, every time the computer is started up. This is the same case for Excel, Word, Publisher, Access, PP etc. all acting in the same manner.

Any suggestions?

Can I upgrade Office 2000 to Office XP, while still running Windows 2000?

I could use some of the features of Office XP, and would really like to retain my Windows 2000 environment. Do you think I could make this upgrade in Office?

Thanks.

Answer:Can I upgrade Office 2000 to Office XP, while still running Windows 2000?

Office XP can run on Windows 2000. Even though the operating systems and office suites have the same naming convention, that doesn't mean that they have to match up (Windows 2000-Office 2000, Windows XP-Office XP).

Hello, I'm looking for a solution to when I want to type "→" using "ras" on my Windows 8 computer. By typing the letters "r+a+s" autocorrect changes this to a right arrow (→). I'm using my mac now to do this, which was simply done by going to System Preferences → Keyboard → Text (screenshot attached). Is there a way to do this in Windows? I know how to do this for Microsoft Office programs but not for general use. Please let me know if this is possible. Thank you!

Answer:Keyboard autocorrect for non-Office programs

Not easily.

You can cut and paste from the built in Character Map application (cumbersome) or (perhaps even worse) you can enable unicode entry in the registry and enter them manually (Unicode input on Windows 8.1). For example for right arrow you would enter Alt + 2192 (you must use the numbers above the keyboard to enter unicode and a numeric keypad to enter ASCII).

Alternatively you can download The Microsoft Keyboard Layout Creator and assign a specific key combination to the symbol you want (for example Alt-gr + some key if you don't use the RHS control button in your language). This is an old program but still works in 8.1. (and 10). I use it to enter French accents in Windows using a UK MacBook Keyboard.

Here I added right Arrow to AltGR + R for example...

Hey all,

When I try to run any of the Microsoft Office 2013 programs, they start up, give the menu to create a new document, then suddenly the window flashes and zooms off stage left before you can choose an option. Same thing happens when opening an already existing document... there is no icon in the menu at the bottom to show that the programs are still running, so it's as if the programs shut down, but there is no error message or anything. My wife is getting frustrated - she's a school teacher and needs to create and edit documents for her class - please help!

OK. I've come across a new problem (only a few weeks old) but it happens on both my laptop and desktop. Here's the problem description.Whenever I try to save an office file (either .docx, .xlsx, etc.) it takes several seconds (like 10 or more) to save them. During that time, the computer is unresponsive. Before, I was able to save a good sized office file in less than 3 seconds. This problem also seems to appear in Firefox....there is a noticeable delay when opening the browser, switching tabs or selecting a link on a website. The problem is not as bad as office, but it frequently occurs. After the hangup, the computer responds normally. I have no viruses and other than these quirks, the machines run fast. The strange thing is that it happens on 2 different computers with different programs on them.Computer #1Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit, 3 GB RAMMS Office Pro 2007, SP2Avira Antivirus Premium 2012Zonealarm Pro FirewallComputer #2Windows 7 Professional 64 bit, 4 GB RAMMS Office Pro 2010, SP1Bitdefender Antivirus 2012Comodo FirewallAs you can see, I have different versions of Office, different firewalls and different Antivirus on each computer.Maybe this issue was caused by a recent Windows Update or an Office Update common to both 2007 & 2010.Any ideas? Thanks.

Hello,
I think I am infected with some sort of virus.
Everything on the computer seemed to be working fine. But then after I tried to open Word last night all of the MS Office programs attempted to open on my desktop....even the Games program?
Then I shutdown manually in an attempt to restart.  I could not get the computer to turn on, despite being plugged into a wall outlet.. It woudl power up, but them immediately shut down. After serveral attempts, it's up and running in Safe Mode.
The MS Office progaram have to attempted to open again. But, in safe mode. I now keep getting message alerts from McAfee that I don't have my real time scanning on.  I turn it on, and it automatically turns off.

I recently migrated all applications and files from my old macbook pro to my new macbook air. The 2008 MS Office for Mac programs were working fine on my old computer but now I face this problem:

1. When I try to open an Office program the Microsoft Office Setup Assistant opens asking if I want to take part in the Customer Experience Improvement Program and then suggesting I "get started" by learning more and/or registering.

2. I click finish and the Microsoft Auto Update Opens. It checks for updates. The first time I did this it said there was a service pack released in December 2011 that I needed so I downloaded that. Oddly this doesn't show up in my downloads folder.

3. Now it finds no updates. I click OK and then close Microsoft Auto Upate. Word, Excel, etc does not open.

4. I click to try opening Word, Excel, or another program and the cycle starts again.
Thank you for any help,
Chris

I know you can slipstream the office service pack into the Office install but is it possible to slipstream office itself into a Windows 7 installation and have it install all at once? I would also like to slipstream other programs that can self install like Avast and other programs. Is there an easy way to do this? I search online briefly and did not find much or a good way to do it.

Answer:Slipstream Office and other programs into Windows 7

MSFN.org is a great resource for unattended setups. There are all kinds of ways to do it for different versions of office and windows.

If my memory serves me right, it can't be directly slipstreamed into a windows install, but there is a windows unattended setup file that will run a batch file in which you can include the silent office install.

I have Microsoft Office Pro 2007. I only want to download Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. I do not want Access, Outlook, Publisher, or One Note. Is there a way I can choose the 3 programs I want? I know I can buy the home and student edition, but I have Office Pro.

Answer:Choose Microsoft Office Programs I Want

Yes. Just start the installer and choose the custom options. You can uncheck all the parts you don't want. Some will be marked as to be installed on first use. You may want to install some of those right away so you don't need to dig out the CD later if they are things you know you want to use.

But the installer is very convenient. You can even run it again later and remove components or add new ones.

Have Window Vista Ultimate and Microsoft Office Enterprise 2007. For unknown for me reason I lost ?Microsoft Office? title in Start --> All Programs. In ?Windows Explorer? in ?Program Files? in ?Microsoft Office? folder, there is ?Microsoft Office? but it is empty. In ?Outlook? in Help menu I was running ?Office Diagnostic? what said there is no error with ?Office?. Check for ?Spyware?, Viruses? it is OK. Hard disk is clean, no garbage files, temporary etc. Have retail full version ?Office?. Loaded into desk and laptop (with Microsoft permission). Try to ?Repair? from CD but get info that is error. Think to save my personal file and load ?Office ?again but I used it two times. Problem what I have is with laptop. Of course I can live with it but it is ridicules to create shortcut of all ?Office? parts. How to restore Microsoft Office in my Star --> All Programs? Will appreciate any comments.

I know I need to find time to come here and just take a look at the difficulites you all are having, but I just CANNOT get impressed over VISTA. It's beyond disappointing to me.

I find I cannot even download free trials of Office Suite, or Publisher, or CuteFTP, or anything else!

In Office, when I'm in the free download area, I can complete ALL the other catagories, but the MINUTE I put in the language, the page rolls over, and wipes everything out -instead of sending me onto the download page! So do the other download areas.

Since VISTA won't work with my old Cute, or Office or Publisher, and I cannot even download these from online to see if they're compatible, what am I supposed to do with this machine?

I work web designs, and my sister and I do an ENORMOUS amount of Ministry writing. This program is absolutely worthless to us! I will NOT buy the products only to find they don't work, unless I can trial them to see what bugs there are in all of them. And I don't have two weeks to sit down and get into the "guts" of this machine and methodically work it all out.

Can ANYONE give me some simple pointers as to how to retrieve download pages??? I got the folder fix from this place, only to have my machine delete it from my system (not even on my desktop or in my download file), so I had to come back here to retrieve it again!

I don't think I have EVER dis-liked a system so much in my life -but am desperate to at least try some of these products ... Read more

I cant see why Cute, Office and Publisher wont work, what versions have you tried.

Being the admin/designer of this site and a few others I also do alot of web design, and so far every program I used to use in XP has worked without any problem.

Hi bdwinks,
UAC enabled is an added layer of protection.

How did you remove Personal Anti Virus?

We purchased a new Dell with Windows 7 then I installed Microsoft Office Professional 2007. All of the office features randomly freeze, usually when I go to print. When we reboot everything works again for a while. I've lost information when this happens. Is it a OS problem an Office problem or I read something about it being Macros... I read a previous out dated post about HP phipherials causing problems. What is the cause?

Whenever I open any Office 2000 programs, Word & Excel in particuler, they shut right off after just a few seconds. The screen goes back to the desktop. I have uninstalled the program and reinstalled it a couple of times. The only way I can successfully run the programs is to run them from the CD. However, this seems to be very unstable and the program has crashed a lot. This is on a Win 98 system.

Thanks for any help that anyone out there can provide.

I'm running Win XP and I've just started having a strange problem. When I try to run certain programs (a chess game, an icon editing prog) or functions within a program (when I try and load an external script in a 3d graphics package) a window pops up saying that windows is preparing to install Microsoft Office or Roxio (both of these are programs I do have installed but I installed them months ago, long before this problem started happening). If I hit cancel the installation backs off then starts again. I have to hit cancel several times before it stops and the prog that I was trying to run opens up. If I let the 'installation' run it's course it tells me I need to insert the disk. Is it possible there are temporary install files that didn't get properly removed hiding somewhere and are being called inadvertantly?
Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks.

I have a toshiba sattelite p105-s6177 laptop, it's running on Vista home premium 32 bit.
Last week it suddenly started acting weird, the entire computer slowed down and every single click took a few minutes to register, no word or excel documents could be opened. ( example of error message when trying to open word: "Error message: the procedure entry point stretchB could not be located in the dynamic link library GDI32.dll." I googled it and got no hits).
I also noticed that Avast stopped working.
Tried to run scan disk, stopped in the middle and got an error, after which i got a black screen with only the mouse visible.
Tried to reboot many times but kept getting the black screen as before.
I tried hitting F8 on reboot and doing a system restore but got an error too (cyclic redundancy error).
Last night i tried running chkdsk /r c: while booting and after it finished running (a few hours) i still got the black screen but after a few minutes i finally got to the login screen and was able to log on.
Now the computer doesn't seem to be too slow, but i still cannot access Microsoft office applications or open any word/excel documents. I had to remove and reinstall Avast (which the computer didn't allow me to do before) i ran a scan and it didn't find any viruses.
Now i'm wondering what attacked my computer last week and how can I fix it so I can be confident that my computer is safe and I can open MsWord.
Thanks in advance.

How can I be sure it is in fact the hard drive? backing up data has not been an issue.

I seem to have a weird problem with Word and Excel (2003). if I click on either shortcut, the program opens reasonably quickly, and then it also opens any file quickly (whether it is from the recent files list or by finding it through "File Open".

However, if I doubleclick the Word or Excel file directly (say in Explorer), it takes forever to open Word/Excel,and then loading the file takes quite long too. Same problem with rtf files created with Wordpad. Also, same slow reaction if I rightmouse the file and either "Open" or "Open With".

This is a problem that only started overthe last couple of days, and I don't think I've installed anything new.

I am totally confused.

Any suggestions will be gratefully accepted.

Answer:Weirdly slow office programs

bearspa... i am glad i saw your posting because i was about to start the same one.

i felt the dramatic reduction in speed when i open, save, copy, find, sort, cut or paste in excel. i tried saving the file from xlsx (2007) to binary format (i thought it is supposed to help with huge excel files) but that did not help either.

hopefully, someone will be able to help us.

I recently had a virus infect my computer. It took several attempts to finally remove it. Now I cannot open any of my MS Office 2003 programs. When I try to launch any of the programs, I get the following application error message:

The Instruction at "0x7c801efd" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "written".

Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on Cancel to debug the program

When I click on cancel, the error window just shuts, nothing happens. The same when I click on ok.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled MS Office 2003 to no avail.

Please help!

Answer:Can't open any MS Office 2003 programs

Hi

Is it just Office or is it other applications too?

What you could first do is to run CCleaner and clean up the temps and junk on your PC, then run Windows Installer Cleanup and delete any mention of Office 2003 applications from its list, then try reinstalling Office again.

If the above doesnt work as as that error code doesnt link to any error codes at Microsoft for Office or any product, so I would be guessing you may still have malware on your PC, so to that end I would do the below and then post a new thread in our Malware forum and give a brief explaination of whats going on and attach all the logs from the guide.

Please follow the instructions in the below link and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

OK, I hope I'm asking this question in the right place. I'm new to Windows and I'm having a hell of a time trying to find where my applications are stored. Mac OX stores apps in "Applications" (Yes, I'm a Mac girl, and my G4 finally died after 10 years of faithful maintenence-free service. I bought a PC to tide me over while I save for the Mac of my dreams). After downloading Microsoft Office, the app is on my desktop. I'd like to file it alongside my other applications, but I'm stopped when I try to move it to where other Office programs are stored. Any help will be appreciated. Thanx. : )

Answer:Move to where other Office programs are stored?

Hi and I will try and help.
I think you are saying that you downloaded MSOffice from some where and saved it to your desktop.
Is this correct?

Have you opened it and installed in yet?
If yes great. If no why not?
If you need to install it just left mouse click it twice and it should open and start the install process.

If you did install it and want to save the application for safe keeping in case you need to reinstall in the future you need to right mouse click on it and select copy from the menu.

After that you need to open Explorer and decide where you want it stored for safe keeping.
Possible directory called Backup Program.
Where ever it is all you need to do is select the location and right mouse click again in the directory and select paste.

I know it was easier on the Apple but welcome to the PC reality world.

The other day I was having so much trouble with my computer that I couldn't even get it to start up correctly. A friend suggested that I start over and run the system recovery. It was a brilliant idea, and I even kept a backup of all my old files so that if ABSOLUTELY NECESSARY I could go ahead and retrieve something from that file. Anyway, I had lost my original disks to install Microsoft Office 2003 during a move somewhere. Since it was working on my computer before, I had my burning program (NERO) create a backup copy of Microsoft Office so that I could transfer it should anything happen to my computer. I don't know if I didn't do the backup correctly, or if I don't know how to properly set up the backup, but I can't get it to work. I even pulled the functioning folder out of my corrupted backup file on my harddrive that I had saved from the recovery just in case, and it still won't work. Everything seems to be there, but when I click on one of the icons to open Word or Access or something, it says "The operating system is not currently configured to run this application." I can't find any of the setup files, but then, I'm not entirely sure what they should be called, so I've been looking for files named "setup.exe"

I'm having quite a serious issue with regards to the Office 2007 Ultimate running on Vista 64bit OS.

After a period of time of my computer running, the office programs (Excel, Word, Groove and Outlook) begin to encounter errors. They crash, and windows tells me that the program has experienced a problem and will be restarted. As always there's no response from the report this problem to Microsoft.

I've tried repairing the office installation, to no success. I've checked my Hard-drive to ensure that there's no issues with that (not that there should be as everything else runs smoothly). I've tried running office programs in safe mode.

I'm trying to hold off formatting and reinstalling everything (time consuming and have a rebuild in the pipeline to upgrade to Windows 7 in a couple of weeks) so I'm trying to fix the issue another way.

The following is what the error logs have for the crashes:
ID: 1, Application Name: Microsoft Office Excel, Application Version: 12.0.6514.5000, Microsoft Office Version: 12.0.6425.1000. This session lasted 6 seconds with 0 seconds of active time. This session ended with a crash.Click to expand...

Other program crashes have similar error messages. The details tab doesn't yield any other information.

I've been trying to ascertain what's going on. Has anyone got any thoughts or ideas as to what may be causing this and how to fix it?

Programs known to be not working/missing:

I have been opening up word and excel documents and emailing direct from them for a long time on this computer. All of a sudden yesterday when I try, I am directed to sign in to my Yahoo email account.

I don't want to send from my Yahoo account, but from one of my accounts I send and receive via Outlook Express. I changed some privacy setting in Yahoo yesterday and it didn't appear to have anything to do with this, but now I have to go in and open up OE, then write the message and browse to attach the file.

I have tried looking at places to make OE my default mail service, changed it in OE, but it still isn't working. I send documents like this all day for work and it is time consuming to do it the other way.

Any ideas on what to do?

Does sound strange, as the update to Win7&8 which enabled the upgrade message, only got released via Windows Update a couple months ago (March from memory) and was only 'activated' a few weeks ago. So most likely a Trojan of some kind...

Hi!

My OS if Windows XP
For some reason, every time I try to open some of my programs, ie. Pulisher XP, Word XP, Power PointXP, they either will not open,- htye get hung up and say not responding, or they open up for just a moment and then when I try to do any actions inside the program, they get hung up. I first noticed this problem when I was trying to use Publisher so I did the following:
I ran spyboot and got rid of the few problemsthere.
I ran Norton Utilties
I ran Norton Antivirus.
Rebooted before and after each of these.

Then I attempted to repair Publisher XP from the original disk.
when that didn't work I uninstalled and reinstalled Publisher.
No luck.

At this point, I tried to runthe other programs and they getting the same hangups.
Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

Having monitored my task manager's list of open processes, I was intrigued to find winword.exe, excel.exe and powerpnt.exe all start and close again during Windows' startup. This happens both when I'd told osa.exe to execute at startup, and not to execute at startup. What's happening here? Is it some 3rd party program starting them up? Is this a deliberate Office thing? My startup is already taking ages with the amount of startup programs I have, and I could really do without this.I've already tried looking at my list of startup programs using Mike Lin's Startup Control Panel and msconfig, but have found nothing THAT unusual.
