Mouse & Keyboard Center/"STOP 0xC000021A" error

Question: Mouse & Keyboard Center/"STOP 0xC000021A" error

Tried booting 3 times with same result. Dual booting 10TP with 8.1 Pro. 10TP boots, I log in fine, and about 20 seconds in it states that MS Mouse & Keyboard Center has failed. It writes a report to send. Then about 10/15 seconds later I get a blue reboot/collecting data screen with a "STOP 0xC000021A" error. So I look that up: ttp://

That states some causes.

?Mismatched system files have been installed.
?A Service Pack installation has failed.
?A backup program that is used to restore a hard disk did not correctly restore files that may have been in use.
?An incompatible third-party program has been installed.

I do have an MS Arc mouse. This all runs fine in 8.1. I?m thinking OK, MS Mouse & Keyboard Center had installed via Windows Update automatically and perhaps it didn't load correctly or it?s incompatible. I look to see that it?s not working in JDobbsy1987 thread of working/not working apps. Sure enough it's there, although that thread hasn?t been updated lately. Windows 10 Preview Tested Apps Trouble is that I don?t know when it installed. Usually I get a settings screen after it installs, but I just don?t remember that.

Anywho, I know I won?t have time to go in and uninstall or any other task. Also keeping in mind the other potential causes and suggestions/remedies. So I go back to 8.1 and make a 10TP Safe Mode. Boot into it with a warning off the bat that states "explorer.exe warning. Unknown hard error", which I?ll assume it?s Mouse & Keyboard center. Soon after it shuts down with the "STOP 0xC000021A" error reboot screen.

Any ideas? I suppose reinstall is in order, but catching MS Mouse and Keyboard before installing is impossible since I'm not able to shut off automatic updates unless it?s possible to uncheck "Give me updates for other MS products when I update Windows?. Would someone please check if that?s greyed out too?

Preferred Solution: Mouse & Keyboard Center/"STOP 0xC000021A" error

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Mouse & Keyboard Center/"STOP 0xC000021A" error

You can uncheck that it is not greyed out you can also uncheck get recommended updates also.

My win 10 computer has just started giving me the above error code.
I can log in using mouse & keyboard, but when I get to the start screen I get the above error code 0XC000021a.

I have tried several times to do a fix, like shutting off the power supply, rebooting, waiting etc.

Any solutions out there?

I am sending this Email on my Win 8.1 desk top.

I was wondering if there was *some* way to launch Modern apps with the "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center", or whether there's a Modern version of "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center" in the works.

Is there some sort of command or something that can be put into the "Open a program, webpage, or file" field?

If nothing else, is there a program that can be launched that can automatically launch a metro app?

Answer:Launching Modern apps with "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center"....

I was wondering if there was *some* way to launch Modern apps with the "Microsoft Mouse And Keyboard Center"

The only method that I have seen is using macros.  E.g. find the minimal, most reliable method of using the Start Screen to do whatever it is that you want to do via the keyboard, then express that sequence by a macro and assign it to an "unused"
function key.

customizable buttons/keys don't work in programs which runs under the certain conditions of compatibility modes, or if program runs with administrative privilege...
making administrative privilege to "itype.exe & ipoint.exe & mousekeyboardcenter.exe" does not help... as well taking ownership of the folder and files of "Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center" does not help either...
looks like some security problems, but extremely annoying because to work without customizable buttons on the keyboard it's a pain in a neck... strangely but nobody so far is writing about it on this forum...

Answer:"Microsoft Mouse and keyboard center"

What are you trying to do? Use custom keys in some apps? Try updating the Intellitype software to the latest version from Microsoft's site. Then make sure that the specific application doesn't override your keyboard settings.

I have a very strange problem on a computer we are attempting a repair on. No keyboards or mice, either ps/2 or usb, will work properly on this computer.

The computer is running Windows 7 x64.

The reason why it's very strange is that when I plug in a new mouse or keyboard, one that has not been previously installed, it will work until it has become fully installed. The moment the hardware installation popup says "your devices are ready to use", the device becomes completely unresponsive. Lights remain on the mouse and the numlock light continues to stay on but will not respond to any buttons or keys. The computer's time still ticks and the computer will shutdown properly if the power button is pressed so the computer is not frozen.

The same result occurs in safe mode.

We have tried running the windows 7 recovery disc and running 2 different system restores but neither would complete.

Answer:Mouse and Keyboard stop working after "installed". USB and PS/2

Give this a try.

Shut down the computer.
Unplug the keyboard and mouse. (USB)
Boot the computer then plug in the keyboard and wait for the sound and the popup to go away.
Then plug in the mouse and do the same thing.
Try the mouse and keyboard.
Reboot and see if they still work.

It's very unusual that a PS2 won't work.

Answer:*RESOLVED* Media Center "Tuner Not Found" error, "Receiver service has stopped"

Okay, I resolved the first two issues, Tuner error and ehrecvr error. It had to do with multiple Admin user accounts on my computer. My computer was originally set up with a user Robert Baker with full privileges as administrator. I then also set up a MediaCenter account with full privilidges. For whatever reason the MediaCenter account has access to EVERY action on the computer except starting the ehrecvr service.1.  First set Media Center Service Launcher to log on at NT Authority    Services > Right-Click Windows Media Center Service Launcher > Properties > Log On tab > Log On As 'This account: ' > Type " NT AUTHORITY/LocalService " > Click Apply > General tab > Start service.2. I then set the Media Center Scheduler Service AND Media Center Receiver Service to log on as my other admin account. Same as above but with other account credentials and started the services.3. Reboot and no ehrecvr errors. Since this was a good sign I tried WMC and was able to set up my TV fine.I STILL, however, get the "Upgrade in progress" message when I open Media Center. Anyone know how to fix that? I've run setup again and can't get rid of it.

I recently updated my PC to windows 10. It worked fine for a couple of weeks, but then it stopped booting. I started it regularly, and it showed the HP logo with the spinning circle, but then it just loaded into a flashing grey and black screen. Booting it in safe mode only got me a blue screen error, with the 0xc000021a error. I've looked pretty much everywhere, and I can't find a fix that works. Sfc scans stop at 100% verification and say "Windows resource protection could not perform the requested operation." I tried "CHKDSK C: /R, but it found no errors. Any other fixes seemed to require launching windows for downloads / file access, and I can't appear to do that. Any help would be much appreciated, so thank you to anyone who replies!

Been having very, VERY annoying issues with my computer as of late. I could be playing a game. All is well until all of a sudden my keyboard and mouse just completely stop working (although the computer still appears to be running fine, just keyboard and mouse stop). So i restart my computer, only to get a message along the lines of "bios checksum error" with very fast, constant beeping. I reset my computer again and i get nothing on my screen, the light just turns amber. After turning my computer strait off and back on again, it comes back to life and begins working again like nothing ever happened. (until the next time it happens).

I am really struggling to find out what the problem actually is, but i THINK that it might be the motherboard, but im not sure. What do you guys think? Sound like a motherboard problem?

My system specs are as follows:

CPU: Pentium 4 2.2Ghz
Video: GeForce 6600GT
Mobo: ECS 661FX-M (I know ECS is crap, this is why i think it might be the mobo)
PSU: Thermaltake 430w

I thought I fixed the problem and this computer feels slightly faster, etc. Today, while I was away and while the computer is running item 2 and 3, the computer gave me a BSoD as per attached screen shot.

Answer:BSoD with "STOP:0x00000024" error and "Ntfs.sys"

Hello rting,
You have quite a few different types of crashes there.
Before we investigate the underlying causes it would be wise to do the following.

1. Asacpi.sys

The pre 2009 version of this driver is a known BSOD cause.

Please visit this link: Asus tek computer inc. -support- drivers and download p7p55d le

ASUSTeK Computer Inc. -Support- Drivers and Download P7P55D LE
ASUSTeK Computer Inc. - Motherboards- ASUS P5K-VM

Scroll down to the utilities category, then scroll down to the "atk0110 driver for windowsxp/vista/windows 7 32&64-bit" (it's about the 12th item down).

Download and install it.

Go to c:\windows\system32\drivers to check and make sure that the asacpi.sys file is date stamped from 2009 or 2010 (not before).

2. McAfee is a frequent cause of BSOD's.
I would remove and replace it with Microsoft Security Essentials AT LEAST TO TEST!

Hi everyone!

Yesterday my HP laptop (Windows 7) started getting BSOD with various types of errors (mostly "STOP: 0x00000F4", "STOP: 0x0000007A", "c00021a" and one "missing %hs, c0000135"). Most of the time it restarts without any issues and works fine right after the BSOD and then an hour or two later I get a BSOD again.

I have tried restoring to Last Known Good Configuration, startup repair, hard disk check, virus scans and I also uninstalled any recently added programs I could think of and cleared up more than 50% of my hard disk space. None of these seem to have helped and I still get BSOD regularly.

I have attached the folder from the SF Diagnostic Tool and would appreciate any advice!
Thank you!

Hi all.
I am getting a blue screen error of: stop: c0000135" and "winsrv was not found". It is not due to installing SP2 or any type of service pack. It happened after I used RegCure, i believe that it corrupted my registry and now it cannot find the winsrv. I was wondering how i would go on about fixing it. At the moment I am using a Linux Live CD and I have access to all my files on my hard drives including the windows partition, so if there is a way to revert to old registry settings through that please let me know.
FYI: I am using XP x64.
Thank you.

Enabled Windows updates, it caused my mouse and keyboard to stop working (except in the BIOS), so I did a restore. The problem then was *after* logging into Windows (using my keyboard to type the password and login), Windows searches for updates for my USB keyboard and after they are installed (takes about 2 minutes), the keyboard just stops working. The LEDs stay on, "extra" buttons on the keyboard (such as the music button to open Windows Media Player) still work, but that's it. I tried a second USB keyboard, it has the same problem (LEDs are on, extra buttons work, nothing else).

So, I restore again, unplug my keyboard so it doesn't auto-update and disable auto-updates for drivers for all peripherals on my PC. Then I plug in the keyboard, it doesn't try to update anything and my keyboard is working again.

The problem:

This is not a long term solution because eventually I will want Windows to auto-install drivers for any new hardware I get. Clearly the latest Windows keyboard drivers are faulty, so what can I do about this?

Answer:Windows "auto-install" drivers causes keyboard to stop working.

Ok where do I begin?! I have been dealing with viruses, spyware/malware for the past week. It all started with Norton advising me that I had been infected with Trojan. Vundo and Trojan.Zonebac. After that I started receiving many different pop ups warning me about critical system alerts. I also had an annoying yellow triangle at the bottom of my screen warning me about different trojans and worms. More evil friends included 2 new icons that had made their home on my desktop one named "Live Safety Center" and the other "Online Security Guide", also installed was a new toolbar named "Security Toolbar 7.1". I have scanned my computer with many different programs and have somehow finally managed to get rid of the pop ups and toolbar, although I know I'm probably still infected somewhere. I'm sorry this is so long but, I wanted to explain EVERYTHING! I'm running Windows XP SP2, and have followed all steps to post. I downloaded DSS, but after many attempts to run, it just wouldn't let me. I do have a fresh hijackthis log and my Panda report, I hope this is good enough.
Many thanks in advance to whomever helps me, I am desperate!

This began after dumbly going to some non-commercial website. NAV auto-protect did initially detect an infection, but indicated it could not quarantine or delete.

Now when launching IE6, it attempts to redirect to a fake virus software website. When I choose the "not recommended" link, IE crashes shortly afterward. Also, I get a fake "Security Center Alert" popup every few minutes. I stupidly clicked on the link to update the security center.

With System Restore deactivated, I have run (all updated, full scans in safe mode) NAV, Ad-aware, Spybot, SpySweeper, Avira and CCleaner. (Then I found this website and learned I should have waited to do this.) Spybot found a couple of registry entries, but that was the only detection made by any of the programs, other than NAV's initial auto-protect message. File gmer.txt is attached.

Before any work can be done on this machine, there is something that requires your immediate intervention.

This machine is messed up pretty badly because you have several anti-virus programs on your machine. That's not a good idea!!

Alike firewalls, anti-virus programs have conflicts co-existing with each other & produces undesirable results. Please uninstall ALL leaving only one of them.

ALL the antivirus programs must be removed via add/remove program.
For any program that doesn't have an add/remove entry, you will have to do this:re-install the program -> reboot -> uninstallPost a fresh logs when you have completed the above task.

I am infected with this crap and have used the following tools to try to get rid of it:
Windows Defender, Unible PowerSuite (SpeedUpMyPC, Registry Booster & Spyware Protector) and Norton's One Button Checkup and WinDoctor.

Not sure if it's related, but my DISPLAY is locked at 640 X 480.

Atempted the 5 Step Process before posting and Panda ActiveScan froze and crashed after scanning 59253 files, but not before identifying 28 spyware files.

I'm running Windows XP SP 3. I have fake "Security Center Alert" popups and "Security Center" popups. A program called "Malware Defense" has also seemed to installed itself onto my computer. And I've just noticed porn icons appearing on my desktop. It's also disabled my Avira software.

Let's try this version of gmer.

Download GMER Rootkit Scanner from here to your desktop. Double click the exe file.
If it gives you a warning about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run on NO, then use the following settings for a more complete scan.

Click the image to enlarge it

In the right panel, you will see several boxes that have been checked. Ensure the following are unchecked Sections

I reformatted my computer recently, with all the same hardware and software I usually do, but this time I noticed something different.

On my E: partition (non-system), there is a folder called "9ca233a934811ecf86022b48e5" which contains two folders: "AMD64" and "i386".

I researched a little bit, and found out those folders pertain to a windows 64-bit edition, but I don't have anything to do with a 64-bit edition, mine's a 32-bit.

Here's my system specs:WinXP Media Center Edition Version 2002 SP3
Intel Core 2 Duo Processor E6300
NVidia GeForce 7600 GS 512MB
ST3300831AS 300GB HD
I have my HD partitioned to 3 drives:14GB System Drive (C:)
40GB Document Drive (D:)
190GB Storage Drive (E:)
I also have 40GB partitioned as an Acronis True Image Home Secure Zone, for storing Disk Images.

I was wondering why those two folders are on my E: drive, when I'm running a 32-bit version of Windows. Also, (sorry if this should be in another thread) my computer has been restarting unexpectedly while I've just been doing random things on it. Nothing graphics-intensive, or anything like that, so I don't know why it's doing that either.

Thanks for your help and time,

Answer:"AMD64" and "i386" folders on WinXP Media Center 32-bit edition

It sounds like those are temporary files from a driver installation. A lot of companies seem to package every possible driver in the zip or executable, extract them all to the hard drive, find the one the system needs and copy it to the system32 directory, then leave the rest behind.

In that case they should be safe to delete. It would take a bit more research on your part to make sure. Maybe a readme or help file somewhere in the directory?

I don't have a clue where to begin trying to fix this problem. Spybot doesn't seem to fix the problem. I keep getting random icons on my desktop and start menu called "online security guide" and "live saftey center". There are also many fake balloon warnings appearing and a window titled "Critical System Warning!" that wants me to download stuff. What process can I go through to clean my system. Any help would be great...thank you!

To all those who keep on spouting the talking point that "touch" is the future of computing...
In fact is clearly is NOT. At least for the next half century is isn't.

As far as we can tell NOTHING is more efficient than the traditional keyboard and mouse for entering data, it is indisputable.

Perhaps in the following century there will be bionics that will allow those that want to compromise their bodies to use mere thought to transfer that data to a computer, but that is too far down the road to be concerned with now and even the near future, until then the rational, logical and practical issues mean that touch will not be the future except for playing with games or light texting on an WinPhone or Tablet.

Answer:Touch is NOT the "near" future of computing. Keyboard & mouse is.

In 50 years, the keyboard will still remain. The mouse won't. We've been using a QWERTY keyboard since the age of type writers. We've used computers with a keyboard until the mouse came into the game more than 25 years ago. It's not going to last a long time because if you have a UI that takes advantage of touch input, much like how the GUI took advantage of the mouse, it's gone. Not only that, there's gesture input as well...

Call it a change to how we interact with our PCs...

I did follow MicroBell's 5 Step process and the Panda scan said that no virus could be found. However, my Avast anti-virus warned me 5-6 times about files while I was running the Panda virus scanning. One of them was named "win.exe" and was in C:\temp\ but has now been deleted. Every time Avast issued a virus alert I chose the option to delete the file in question.

Answer:Can't access "Network and Sharing Center" nor "User Accounts"

Hello Jayrrus, and welcome to Vista Forums.

I would recommend that you use Microsoft Standalone System Sweeper to scan your system with at boot to help make sure that your system is malware free first.

Afterwards, you might see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using a restore point dated before you had these issues to see if that may be able to fix them.

Hope this helps,

I have a Dell 5100 which is approximately 2 years old. When I switch on the mains supply there is usually a brief activation ( sounds like hard disk or fans ) & when I subsequently press the button on the front of the case the system starts up. At the moment this is not happening. There is no light showing on the keyboard, the red light that shines out from the base of the mouse does not appear. The power light shows amber on the monitor and pressing the button furthest left results in message "In power save mode, press any key on keyboard or move mouse".
So far I have tried removing all connections & powering up. I have also checked for loose boards & connections inside the case. Any ideas? Is this most likely to be a hardware problem?

Answer:Keyboard & mouse "dead" on power up

For reasons beyond my understanding the system booted on the latest attempt. I cannot tell what the problem was - but it has made me wonder if I should try & get some maintenance cover !!

So here's what happened: I've been updating drivers and such trying to improve hubby's RCT3 game performance. Haven't done anything radical, just updated drivers. All has been working fine. Don't think this has anything to do with the problem, but figured I'd include it to help in diagnosis. The real problem begins the next day after all was still working fine from the last update.

In the morning I attempt to check email (outlook) and get all sorts of connection errors -- a quick check of my modem shows a connection problem. No big deal, I reboot and go to work -- maybe its a BellSouth issue. When I come home I try again, no email server connection, yet when I reboot my modem shows all ok. When I open email, the connection fouls. Reboot again, all looks good, even the dsl connection (ie, all lights green). So this time I open Internet Explorer and receive a "can't display" page, even though my modem shows a good connection. BellSouth Fast Access has a help program that pops up when there's a problem loading a webpage and asks if you want help, so I say yes and it goes through its thing -- testing connection, etc. and it tells me it needs to reset network settings, which it has done before. Only this time, when it reboots the computer, I get the lovely grey "active desktop recovery" screen and no mouse or keyboard.

Here is what I have tried so far:
* rebooting many times (both with reset and power buttons),

I'm a new poster here and I discovered the forum while searching for a solution to a problem that I am having with my Windows Security Center being turned off.

This is the last symptom of a problem that I noticed about a week ago. At that time my Google searches in Firefox were being hijacked to other sites on a pretty consistent, but not 100% basis. Google searches in other browsers, IE9 and Chrome still worked. Also my System Restore functions had been monkeyed with so they looked like that was not working (wouldn't open) but I could tell that it was actually working and the error message was spurious.

I was able to restore the Google search functionality in Firefox AND get system restore back by installing and running SUPERAntiSpyware. That program found several bits of malware and apparently fixed most/some of them. (Yes, I purchased a copy immediate--out of gratitude, if nothing else!). I also own a copy of Anti-MalwareBytes and ran that, but it found nothing.

I thought I was good to go, but today I noticed the little flag icon in the system tray was red X'd and I discovered the error message about the Security Center is turned off. I tried going to the service center and turn it on, but same error. I tried opening the list of services and there is none for Windows I'm assuming some malware has either removed or disabled the files in there.

As I mentioned I came here via Google search and read a long thread about a similar probl... Read more

Answer:Error message: "The Windows Security Center is Turned Off"

After posting my message above, I continued to Google around and found a page with directions about restarting the security service. I guess I'm not SUCH a "savvy PC user" after all, as I had missed the exact name of the service and I reported it missing above.

I re-enabled and then restarted it and it seems to be functioning again.

Thanks for anyone who read the entire message and my apologies for wasting your time if you did.

It then said something about dumping physical memory to disk. I encountered this BSOD after I purposely powered down my machine and it had been turned off for a couple of hours.

Can anyone tell me exactly what this program is for? I don't know if it came installed on my PC or if it was something downloaded inadvertantly with another program I've downloaded. It seems to take-up a great deal of space (about 70 MB!!) for something that I don't think I'm going to be using. I suppose there is a chance I might want it in the future (perhaps I could decide if I knew EXACTLY what it does) - but for right now, I don't connect any "Mobile" Device to this PC.

MS thinks that one of my PCs is running W7 that's not genuine. It is genuine - at least I bought it from Amazon and paid ?141 for it so that - to me - means it's genuine. It may not be but neither Amazon nor MS will take any responsibility for it not being genuine so I've given up with them both. I think that the issue arises because of hardware changes I've made. Oh - yes, I've lost the box with the key on it too.

Long story short. I use this PC very little and when I first first got the black screen and messages after I installed a larger hard drive and reinstated the drive image from an Acronis backup. I stupidly forgot to reinstate the drive signature. Then it happened again when I changed the ITX motherboard.

Now here's the real question. Every now and then it gives me the "black screen" treatment. I fix it by restoring a drive image and turning off W7 updates.
If the damned thing is told not to call home then it shouldn't should it? What's going on? It seems to give me a month or two and then goes psycho on me like HAL9000!

Answer:How do I stop W7 "calling home" and displaying "not genuine" messages?

If this is an OEM version then I can understand why it's doing this after you changed motherboards, since it is forever tied to the first one it is installed on.

If you can follow these instructions for activation issues,

Windows Genuine and Activation Issue Posting Instructions

The results of that can help resolve your issue.

Filling in your system specs will help as well,

System Info - See Your System Specs

If your installation is valid then there's no reason to turn off updates or try to keep it from calling home.

A little bit of back story-- Company doesn't have an IT guy, I'm the local PC "expert", they stick me in charge of setting up the new server they purchased. I can accomplish just about anything I want/need out of my computers, so I figured this task wouldn't be too far out of my knowledge range. Mind you, I have zero experience in Server OS. It was purchased from Dell, so all the initial setup was already done.

First, I went in and installed the AD Domain Services and DNS Server roles. Configured the new forest domain to mybusiness.local and restarted server after installation completed.

Then, I downloaded and installed Exchange Server 2016. It did its prerequisite checks and found no errors. Restarted computer and opened Exchange Administrative Center, only to receive the "Object not found. Error 404" nonsense. I double-checked that all Exchange processes were running. The only one I'm having trouble with is Microsoft Exchange Mailbox Replication. I get a dialog box stating that it started and then stopped.

I've tried researching the issue, but I haven't been able to find anything with a resolution.

Hi all

I am running windows xp up to date
Windows xp media center edition 2005 version 5.1.2715.2773
update rollup 2

I have a HDHomerun Dual tuner that is working with the software that is installed in the Homerun set up (quicktv).

When I go to use the set up in windows media center it says "tuner not available, please restart the computer".

I have goggled potential fixes and can't seem to find anything that will work.

Any help would be appreciated,

Answer:Media Center "no tuner available error"

MCE 2005 requires an Analog/NTSC TV tuner adapter to be present before it will allow a digital tuner to be detected. Check that a Analog/NTSC TV tuner is installed and working.
The ?MCE Rollup 2? update is required:
Microsoft Download Center

According to their Setup Guide Quickstart Guide ? HDHomeRun DUAL MCE required that there is a analog TV tuner installed on the computer before it will recognize the Digital Tuner. Try updating the MCE Rollup and see if that helps. Or post in Siliconsdust's Forum

I was having an issue with my Windows 7 cursor flickering between 'arrow' and 'working in background' at an irritianting rate and found the following TechSupportGuy thread a couple of minutes ago:

One of the posts in the thread lead me to the solution but unfortunately it seems most people have opted for reinstalling the OS instead!

Given the the original thread is closed I decided to create a new one and post the solution here in an attempt to prevent people from taking such drastic measures to get rid of this (incredibly irritant) issue in the future.

I simply disabled the Windows Search service and killed the process behind it (SearchIndexer.exe) in Task Manager. My cursor is now back to normal

Disabling this service means any new files will not be indexed although you can re-enable it and leave the pc running for a couple of hours every now and again so that new files are indexed. Hope this helps!

Having read a previous post to your site called "Mouse and keyboard DISABLED!!"
I have exactly the same problem. My PC is an old (2003) but good to date desktop Medion 2Gb RAM running XP home edition, not sure of service pack because I can't get in to it.
I run McAffee antivirus free with my O2 broadband!
I can't get into the computer at all now to give you any form of log file.
It started with popups telling me I had corrupted registry files and gradually got worse. Asking me to buy the software to remove these nasties. I did manage to remove it once with MBAM from but after a few weeks it has come back, or a new one with a vengeance.

Now the mouse is disabled, so I couldn't buy their magic-fix software even if I wanted to (ha ha)!
Booting in normal mode presents the usual fake application to purchase a $$ fix from, but the mouse is disabled, nothing works, not even Ctrl,Alt,Del.
Booting in safe mode - pressing F8 continuously - gives a black screen with the message "SVGA mode not available" or similar.
I have tried your 5 - step guide. No luck. I can't get into safe mode, and I can't see how to do a system restore. Although a restore will wipe latest files and I dearly want to preserve my Outlook .pst file if possible.

Help, I don't want to ditch the PC even if it is some years old, it is like a trusted and loved pet around our home!

Hoping you can shed some light on this.
Many thanks

Hi, I have a Windows7 Acer laptop. I have used it for over three years with the supplied 500gb hard drive and a wireless Logitech mouse. It has been very satisfactory.
I recently bought a 125gb SSD (SAN brand), installed Windows7 and everything else from scratch.
It worked like a dream. It loads Windows7 and apps far faster than before.
However I am now finding that, after the laptop has been switched on for a while, the mouse is getting slower and slower to react. At first the laptop will respond instantly to any mouse press but, after some minutes, it gets slower and slower, sometimes taking several seconds to react.
It is also happening with the keyboard. Sometimes it will act normally and enter each character as I type it but it then starts stalling or freezing and then suddenly displaying the string of characters I have carried on typing.
Each character should smoothly appear as I press the key not sometimes jerkily in a string a second or two after I have pressed the keys.
I also notice it when playing backgammon. Instead of smooth movement of the pieces, they start moving jerkily.
The up, down, left and right arrow keys are also affected.
Right clicking in Firefox 23.0.1 to open up new tabs etc is also sometime slow and jerky.
The scroll wheel is also affected.
The problem goes away for a while every time I restart the laptop but it always comes back again after ten or fifteen minutes. I see no sign of any overheating.
At first I suspected the mouse but a different wir... Read more

My Sony Vaio laptop model VPCF224FD developed an interesting problem this morning. It's been chiming as if a media device was disconnected whenever I move or set down the laptop, and now if it happens too often it seems to trigger a BSOD with the following error message:

Sony had me reformat my computer, but it didn't resolve the issue (not too surprised there, but oh well). Neither Sony's agent or google searching the error have been able to tell me anything more about the error code. Before I spend even more money taking it in for repairs, is anyone able to help me clarify the error code please?

Thank you!

A couple days ago, my computer started acting up both physically and performance-wise. Whenever I started doing a lot of general tasks at the same time, I would here a weird "hiccup" from the tower--It's the best way for me to describe it. At first I thought it was the fan, but they were both doing fine. The problem steadily got worse until the system went to a blue screen and did abrupt memory dumps before restarting the machine. Both the hiccups and the memory dumps got worse until finally, I got this BSOD upon startup:

*** STOP: 0x0000007B (0x82AF8C50, 0xC0000032, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

If this is the first time you've seen this Stop error screen, restart your computer
. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

The hiccups have stopped but I can't get past the BSOD.

I don't think I have a virus, but I do have a new SATA drive and SATA controller board to have it work along side my IDE HDD. However, I've had it for months now and I've never had this problem. I'm also not running the OS off the SATA, so that just further shows me th... Read more

Press F8 at startup and see if last known good configuration works
If you get the same BSOD and error, I suspect your hd has died.

You can attach the sick hd via USB adapter to a computer and see if you can pull any of your data off.

Hello all.

After numerous updates, I have been getting a critical stop sound on shutdown, however I have noticed the screen flashes white for a second, also tonight it made the sound twice and a small box appeared in the middle of the screen, but I couldn't read it in time... I have tried looking in Event logs, but I have no lead... Any suggestions?

Dear Experts,
Recently, I often got Error "A problem has caused a program to stop working". This happened when I was on Paint, Google Chrome, and some other applications. Here's what I found in Event Viewer. Please tell me what to do.
Thanks all

Answer:error 0xc0000374 "A problem has caused the program to stop working"

I googled the error and found the error may be a hardware or memory problem.
Just copy the error and paste in a windows search.
How old is your system and how much ram does it have?

Some of sites recommended doing a restore back to when your computer was not having this problem.
I am not an export in solving your error problems but someone will be along to help out in the meantime look under the hood and make sure everything is clean and seated properly.
Might even try a restore also.

Hello All,

I am experiencing a very debilitating issue with my laptop. The error indicated on the title of this thread appears every time I try to open multiple programs on my machine; the error is present in at least the following applications: Windows explorer, HP SimplePass, HP CSI Shell, HP Support Assistant, HP Installer, Adobe Acrobat X Pro, Synaptics TouchPad V7.5... and perhaps more.

I include with this message a zip file with some recent logs (CBS. log, Errors Event Viewer, Last Scan.txt, Malware log.txt, Check Disk Event Viewer log) for your review so that both of us can save some valuable time.

Note: I am not by any means an expert on either computer software or hardware so, I would really appreciate if you help me out to sort this issue having that in mind.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Error message: "A problem caused the program to stop working..."

Can you remember when this problem started to happen, if so had you made any changes to the computer such as software installations?

If so, you can try a system restore or use a backup if you have one to roll the os back to a time when all was working well and see if this solves your problem

I can almost guarantee that this is either a damaged or corrupt shell or a conflict with some software, as the fact that you can load the operating system up and get past post shows that it's not hardware related in anyway

Thank you

Okay--apparently 3 or 4 years ago I used a document to create a form template (not technically a form or template in the sense it did not have any fields--just used it to bring up to create new documents based on it). In any event, the document and apparently had some codes in it that I did not see and everything was fine for until moving to Word 2010. Now, virtually any document I pull up comes up with an error. I tried "Open and Repair" and that did not work.

But here is the issue--THIS NEVER SHOWED UP IN PRIOR WORD VERSIONS! I can go right now and pull the same document up on any one of 3 or 4 different computers in the office all running Office 2007 and the document displays fine. So there must be a way to stop Word from displaying the error. I don't want to have to go in an take out all of those codes from all the documents we have that includes them.

Answer:Any way to stop Word 2010 displaying "Error! Main Document Only"

My wife keeps getting kicked out of Farmville and Pioneer Trail, both on Facebook, with an error message ("A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available") indicating an issue with the application. It seems to be coincidental with our starting to use McAfee virus protection software. The computer is fairly new (i.e. a few weeks old) running on Windows 7. She did not have this issue on Windows XP using AVG virus protection. Any ideas what the issue/solution

Answer:"A problem caused the program to stop working" error

If this started when you installed McAfee, try temperately disabling it. Double-click the taskbar icon to open Security Center \ Click Advanced \ Click Configure \ Click Computer & Files. Turn Virus Scan off in the right-hand window and set it for how long. Click Internet & Network to do the same with Firewall. Now see if you still get kicked off.

Due to my problem with booting the laptop in my previous thread, finally I decided to reinstall Windows XP with the old Windows CD I have since many years ago. On the Windows Set Up screen, during the reinstallation process the page alerts me that it is not able to find some files on the CD - so I had to hit ESC in order to proceed the reinstallation. There are many files missing it seems so I had to press ESC many, many times.

After I finish the reinstallation, the laptop rebooted but now, once Windows XP restarted it only took me to a blue screen page with error message "STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error}" which says that the process terminated unexpectedly with a status of 0xc0000135 (0x00000000 0x00000000) and that the system has been shut down.

At this point I have no option else to do but to turn off the laptop. Once I turned it on again, the Windows will attempt to reboot and shows an XP Set Up screen saying "Set Up Restarts" for a couple of seconds, and then will end up again at the blue screen c000021a error.

I have since got a new Windows XP CD but do not seem to be able to reinstall Windows again on my laptop - whatever I do now I can only get Windows to restart which would end up again at the Set Up Restarts screen, and then the blue screen error.

Answer:Unable to reinstall Windows XP ("STOP: c000021a" error)

This error (i.e. c000021a) is caused by pending file-rename operations that are scheduled in the Windows registry, but somehow are not completed. According to MS it can also occur if the file that is described in the error message is corrupted (probably due to hardware issues I think).

The logical point to start with is check your HDD's health. Do you know what is the make/model of your notebook? If so go to the site of HDD manufacturer, download their diagnostic utility and thoroughly check your hard drive. Regards

My laptop isn't starting, I get the blue screen with the following error message:

Stop: c0000218 {Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive (file): \SystemRoot\System32\Config\SOFTWARE or its log or alternate its is corrupt, absent, non writable

I've had a look through some related posts here and tried:
-starting using the last working configuration settings - No Effect
-starting in safe mode - No Effect
-booting from the original Windows XP CD and in the recovery console running the chkdsk /r command - currently 3hrs in and at 65% complete

Hopefully this will work, however if not I am going to try the manual steps guide written by poolboynatur (

My questions are:
1)I don't know if my Windows XP Home edition is OEM Installed, if it is will this stop me being able to perform the manual steps in the guide?
2)Will following the manual steps to recover route delete any of my personal files/folders/pics?
3)I'm concerned about all my personal files/folders/pics etc being deleted or overwritten, obviously I can't start my laptop to access them now to perform a backup to external hard drive, is there a way of performing a back up before I do any of the manual steps to recover?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Error Message "STOP: C0000218 (Reg File Failure)....."
A necessary Registry hive file couldn’t be loaded. The file may be corrupt or missing (requiring either an Emergency Repair Disk or a Windows reinstallation). The Registry files may have been corrupted because of hard disk corruption or some other hardware problem. A driver may have corrupted the Registry data while loading into memory, or the memory where the Registry is loading may have a parity error (turn off the external cache and check the physical RAM).

Yesterday, our computer around 6PM got a fake antivirus virus that popped up and installed automatically. I went and removed it off my computer. That one was called "Malware Doctor". Later, about 2 hours later, I got another one that popped up on my task bar called "Antivirus 2010". That one didnt install and I removed it. Today i started up our computer, and I got Antivirus 2010 again. I exited out of it, and removed it. Then I could not access the internet via Google Chrome, so i tried AOL. AOL worked, but it was freezing as always. I decided to restart my modem and my computer.

When I turned it on, It would go past the XP screen and continuously reboot. I then hit F8 many times, and got the menu(not sure what its called) and make it so it would not auto-reboot on system failure. Booting into safe mode doesnt work, or the other start options. I am using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS to access the internet/techguy.

I then got this error on a blue screen:

c000021a {Fatal System Error}
The Windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly with a status o
f 0xc0000022 (0x00000000, 0x0000000)
The system has been shut down. Click to expand...

I do not have a XP installation disc, or any other windows recovery discs. How may I go about fixing this?

Thanks! You guys are awesome, you helped me tremendously when I had my last virus/PC problem.

I have recently installed a new Motherbaord and CPU.

Win2k Pro boots up with the dos-like progress-bar ok and then it goes to the grphical procgess-bar with the logo and the following error occurs:

I have done some research online and it seems that the drivers for my IDE controller are missing, so win2k cannot start. I can access the HD using the repair console though.

Can the Emergency Repair Process sort out this kind of problem?

I downloaded win2k drivers off the website and selected the option to install them where setup indicates me to press F6, but when I put the disk in I get this error: txtsetup.oem cannot be found. Obviously this is a special file that generated by the manufacturer which I do not have. - Is there any other way it can be generated? Do you know the syntax of this file?

I have a Win98 installation on another HD and that works fine. If I reintall Win2k will it sort out the problem? And if so, what settings in Win2k will I lose?

I have tried several other things which I have seen that have worked for other ppl online including: Disabling PNP, disabling UDMA, not using auto detect buy typing old mobo settings (in case the drive translating is diffrernt on the new mobo).

I'm replacing the hard drive on my computer and decided to use this opportunity to install WinXP Home onto the newer, bigger drive (the old hard drive had Win98SE).

I've made it past the blue text-mode install process (license agreement, formatting the NTFS partition, copying over files from CD). It is during the driver install portion of setup when a BSOD appears with this stop error:

***STOP: 0x000000D1 (0x00000000, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

I already have the latest BIOS update; I've pulled out the modem card and sound card; ran a memory check using memtest-86, and the problem still occurs if I try WinXP setup again from the beginning. I've even booted from the old hard drive, ran the System Compatibility Checker from the XP CD-ROM, and also ran SiSoft Sandra. Both don't report any hardware problems.

Any other pointers and suggestions for troubleshooting or advice would be great.

Answer:"DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL" stop error during WinXP setup

The crash may be caused by faulty ram or device driver error. The system event log and the minidump has the most useful diagnostic information. When Windows crashes with blue screen, it writes a system event 1001 or 1003 and a minidump to the folder \windows\minidump. Check system event 1001 and 1003 and it has the content of the blue screen.

Event ID: 1001
Source: Save Dump
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.The bugcheck was : 0xc000000a (0xe1270188, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x804032100).
Microsoft Windows..... A dump was saved in: .......

Event Source: System Error
Event Category: (102)
Event ID: 1003
Error code 1000007f, parameter1 0000000d, parameter2 00000000, parameter3 00000000, parameter4 00000000

Control Panel -> Adminstrative Tools -> Event Viewer -> System -> Event 1001/1003. Copy the content and paste it back here

Zip 5 to 6 minidumps to a zip file and attach it here. Techspot has an upper limit of 100K per attachment. I will study the dump and find out the culprit. If you can't provide the minidumps, run memtest to stress test the ram.

I have just fitted a new M/B (Gigabyte K7 Triton) and a new Athlon 2.6 chip. Memory is 256md ddr 400. Works fine in the other machine I have.
Eveything seems to be fitted together OK (I had the shop check it) but when I boot up it gives me this error

Stop 0x0000007B (0xf9e49640, 0x00000034, 0x00000000, 0x00000000)

It does this on every HD I try so I presume it has something to do with the Board or the set up. It asks me to check for viruses and run chkdsk. I have newly reformatted the first HD I tried and it has been nowhere near the internet as yet. The other is virus free. I've had it running on the other machine as well.

So I'm stuck, any ideas??

I got an e-mail from a friend today that said her computer is having a "windows stop error problem." She said that she called her tech and he said that usually updating the motherboard will solve the problem.

I asked her what the error was, and even though I don't think this is exact, she said that she can leave her computer and go back to it and it will be a black screen. Sometimes when she is on it (like browsing the web) it went black and will come back on in safe mode. She said the error was:

ERROR TYPE: Windows Stop Error
Solution: NO
Needs to Restart
Device Driver Causing the Problem

Of course this above isn't exactly what it showed, because she said she doesn't know which device driver. This sounds very strange and was curious what is the best advice I could give her?

I have an Acer Aspire M5 that I got a few weeks ago. I'm new to Windows 8. For the past week or so, every time I turn it on I get a message saying my PC ran into a problem that caused it to restart, then it lists these files, the same ones every time:

After that, this window pops up: Attachment 24311 Note: I've never actually gotten a blue screen.

That offers no help though, since my computer has Intel and not AMD. Also, it takes the computer at least 10 minutes to shut down. Not sure if that has anything to do with this. Other than those two things, it runs the same as it has been.

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:

I can't get into safe mode. I tried to get into the Recovery Console, but am having difficulties. After selecting which installation I would like to log onto, it prompts the Administrator password. The partition doesn't have a password, so I tried ENTER. "The password is not valid. Please retype the password." I try the administrator password I use to logon to my XP account. Same message. I was planning on running chckdsk /f, but I can't even get into the Recovery Console!

I've done some looking online and it looks like the stop: 0x00000007B error usually also includes some reference to an unmountable drive or the like. I've read at least 3 or 4 different posts about this BSOD, however, every single stress test did not point out anything good... (Have tried each of them, memtest, prime95, drive verifier for at least 3 hours each...), however, I have thought pretty interesting things.
First, I used to have those kind of problems with pirated windows 7 (I hope it's not a problem to mention past problems of this nature here), then, after updating to windows 8 BETA, my BSOD drastically reduced in numbers...
When again returning to windows 7, my BSODs' returned... I've read that a clean install might solve the problem... I've been trying to install Ubuntu in order to scape windows... and it ALWAYS freezes. Can this be related ? Whenever I tried to install either windows or ubuntu using a Pendrive or DVD, it always ended up freezing at some point... even when my system had no OS , and no data, recently formatted... If the problem is the HD, is there some sort of way to prove it?
I thank your attention in advance,
P.S.: According to the rules, I've attached my dump files and system info in this post

Answer:BSOD downloading heavy files / "stressing" Hard Drive error STOP 0x101

just got another 4 or 5 BSOD just trying to post this.. I believe this is somewhat internet or driver related.. please help.

Thank you.

i have dreamscene that awesome app that make video appear as wallpaper

but now i got active desktop calendar
which is a very good calendar that add events/notes in precise way and i was looking for something like this for my mom medicine it have strict times that cant be delayed

anyway i installed it and then added events then restarted then got this error "error reading original wallpaper bitmap" which come from active desktop calendar side

then dreamscene stop working and isntead of cool video on wallpaper it turn black

i tried everything couldn't find a clue and tried to ask the customer support in each of dreamscene and active desktop calendar and no reply until now

i dont know what to do

if someone have any clue about this please help

or if you know another perfect calendar/note/reminder program that actually like active desktop calendar or better than it tell me it's name

Answer:Dream Scene Stop Working After Restarting "error reading original wallpaper bitmap"

You have altered the original BitMap photo of the calendar by adding events and Dream Scene cannot find the original un-altered photo so it gives you a black screen. I don't think you are going to be able to have an active calendar for a screen saver that you can add events to, as far as I know.

I cannot open User Accounts in Control Panel, I keep getting ...

Microsoft (R) HTML Application host has encountered a problem and needs to close.

Anyone with a fix? . My appreciations in advance!

Answer:"User Accounts" in Control panel wont Open-Error is "Html application Host Error"

Do you have a recovery restore install disc or partition?
You can try doing a repair or system file check...
Scan For Missing/Corrupt System Files...

Windows XP comes with a wonderful tool called System File Checker (SFC)
Itscans and verifies the versions of all protected system files after you restart your computer...
To Do This:
Click Start menu, and then click the Run icon.
In the small box that Opens, type the three letters: cmd then click the OK button.
In the command prompt window that just opened (a black background and white text), type the following command:
SFC /scannow
And then click OK
You must be logged on as a member of the Administrators group to run SFC..
You will need your Windows XP CD during this procedure if SFC needs to get an original file. Please remember that Windows XP can have multiple instances of a .DLL file and remember which version is for which program.
I have been asked if it is possible to have a "progress meter" show when SFC runs... This is the registry hack you need. PLEASE do not go messing with your registry if you do NOT know what you are doing!
System Key: [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon]
Value Name: SFCShowProgress
Data Type: REG_DWORD (DWORD Value)
Value Data: (0 = disabled, 1 = enabled)

I broke one of the "feet" on my old E-Machines PS/2 keyboard I have used for years and like. I also use one at work that's pretty close to the same layout. I am looking everywhere for a keyboard with a large "enter" and "backspace" I can't find one. I don't care if it's USB or PS/2 but hate the "flat" type that ship with computers these days you look at the key to hard and it presses. I have HUGE hands and like the "old style" keyboard that you have to press pretty hard on the keys (like an actual spring under them) Do any of you know of a specialty keyboard shop or somewhere else with a big selection? I have looked all over the internet on the "major" places. (i.e. Newegg, TigerDirect, BestBuy, Wal-Mart, etc...)

If anyone knows of a place that has "old style" keyboards please let me know. I may have to settle but for such a small purchase that I use so much, I'd like to get what I want and I can't be the only one with massive hands having these same issues. The world isn't made for us big guys.

Answer:Keyboard large "Enter and Backspace" and "stiff" keys

Actually, PS2 is still in vogue on on most motherboards, and most local computer repair shops sell older KBs - maybe for more than they are worth, but they do.

I have an older KB that is PS/2 - I'll make a pic and post it if you want it.

If you have made no changes at all try isolating your memory chips and testing them one by one.

Application is actually a game .previously it was working perfectly. But now whenever i tried to open it, it gives that error "application has stop working" . i also tried uninstalling that game and installed it again but the problem persists . i m using windows 7 professional 64 bit on hp probook 4520s

Answer:How to get rid of this error "application has stop working" ?

Hello umairchang and welcome to Seven Forums. Not much info to go on but I'd try system restore to go back to a date/time prior to the problem starting.

System Restore

If system restore doesn't work it would help if you told us what game it is and gave the specs for your computer as well as any other information like what you were doing just before the problem occurred. Just as an example: Did you install any other programs? Update anything? Suffer a power outage?

Hi - I was asked to come to this forum....
from the forum "Tech Support Forum > Microsoft Support > Windows XP Support"
-- thread -- Stop 0xd1 error win xp pro sp3

Briefly - getting BSOD -- Stop 0xD1 error.

I mentioned
"spyware removed -- SpywareProtect2009
then "Backdoor.Tidserv" was detected - but "Left Alone" (Filename UACb7d4.tmp)"

And was referred here with "NEW INSTRUCTIONS".

FYI - I can run computer in Safe mode - but no internet access

I started following the instructions.
1) Backup --- done
2) remove cracked software (didn't see anything to remove)
3) downloaded dds, ran it, included "DDS.txt" and attached Attached.txt
4) downloaded GMER -- could not run...
5) read more threads to find problem with GMER - and found old note about not running DDS ???? -- "New instructions - say to run it" ???

Please do the following:

Lets see if this will get you back connected to the internet:
Go to Start > Control Panel, and choose Network Connections.
Right click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection for cable and DSL or Dial-up Connection if you are using Dial-up, and choose Properties.
Click the Networking tab
Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item.
Write down the settings in case you should need to change them back.
Select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically".
Click OK twice to get out of the properties screen and restart your computer.
If not prompted to reboot go ahead and reboot manually.

In I.E.
Check internet options settings.
Tools > Internet Options > Connections
LAN settings
Choose "automatically detect settings"
uncheck both proxy settings boxes

In FireFox

Click on Advanced -> Network -> Settings?
the No Proxy option should be selected

Hopefully that get's you back connected.

Uncheck the following ... Sections

Im wondering if it wouldn't be better to try and resolve the problem w/o the bat file. Have you tried different drivers for the 1082? The bat file might need to run as admin. Check it by opening a cmd (type cmd in search) window and right clicking. highlight run as administrator and run the bat file. see if that works. If not there are other options.

Let me know if this doesn't work

Hi - I have a barely used Window 7 pc on which I run only Yahoo messenger and more importantly Proquote ( stock exchange data)

I keep getting the following pop up messages:

Setup was unable to automatically close all applications etc etc before continuing setup etc etc with the options to "Abort, Retry or Ignore" I have tried all 3 options, i have re started the pc but this pop keeps occurring- I don't even know what it;s trying to setup!

related I'M also getting a Setup message saying: " unable to execute file c:/users/wayneoffice/appdata/roaming/compatability verifier/compatabilitycheck.exe create proces failed code 5 "

I generally use a mac - and have no idea how to remove these error messages nor do I even know what they are trying to do! help!

Answer:How do I stop "setup " error messages

You might have some malware that luckily is failing its install. I would run Malwarebytes and see if it turns up anything before we start trying to debug this issue. It's free and available for download here:

My friend is having this problem where he gets the error "Power Surge in Hub Port" and his mouse stops working. Usually he is able to just take it out and put it back in and it will work for another 10-15 minutes. However, as of today, he got that error and tried several times but nothing, it's just stopped working. The stupid thing is it tells him to click on it if he wants to fix it, but his mouse isn't working, and when it does work, the message goes away. Is there anything I can do to help him out? So far, having checked out the problem, its not the mouse, unless both of the mice he has are both defective. I just can't locate the problem. Thanks in advance.

Answer:Unresponsive Mouse "Power Surge in Hub Port" Error

Is this USB or PS/2? In other words, is it a little round connector, or a rectangular one?

If it's round (PS/2), I'm not sure what to do, but if it's rectangular (USB), try plugging it into a different USB port. Maybe plug it into a port on the front of the case.

This error i'm having seems very common (seen videos and such) but I can't seem to get this problem fixed.

Everything was running fine, until last Sunday. Then the mouse started to have this problem - It doesn't matter what USB port it's in or anything, and tried the device manager tricks and that isn't either.

I have a Cougar E-Sports gaming mouse. Has anyone got a workaround for this problem, it's driving me nuts!

Answer:Mouse freezing/stops, and "Last USB device malfunctioned" error.

Reinstall the USB drivers.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

Answer:Solved: Windows Explorer "Duration" Column - no "Seconds", just "Hours" and "Minutes"

I just did a clean install on W10 and change my bios to UEFI (which it supports.) I'm having this intermittent problem with the Windows "Start" Button in the lower left. It just stops working - left clicking doesn't do anything, although right-clicking does. I just have the basics installed now.

Also, my Windows "Start" key on my keyboard stops working as well. I checked on a keyboard checker and the key itself is fine. I have to log out/back in to get it to work again. Annoying!

Any thoughts?
