Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

Question: Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

Hi there

Is there any way to copy the stored passwords / account information saved in IE11 to edge

I've a couple of account logins (not Banks I hasten to add) on some sites where I can't remember all the details -- logon automatically in IE11 but I need to try EDGE a bit more now and can't remember those details.

Cheers

Preferred Solution: Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

You should be able to find them in Manage Web Credentials in Control Panel. If there are only a couple you can click on "Show" and it will tell you your password and then you can enter it in Edge.

Both Edge and IE store user id/passwords here I believe but I'm not sure how to make one browser use the credentials saved by the other or even if you can.

hi there,

why does IE11 remove all web passwords when you use CC cleaner and the option "saved passwords" is UNTICKED? it seems as though it's ignoring that, unless they are stored elsewhere and they get cleaned with temp files and company cleanup.

That setting seems to work for Chrome and Firefox, where passwords are kept.

any ideas?

thanks

hi there,

I would like to know if it's normal that after doing a "maintenance" cleanup on the pc, Ccleaner & PC tools "Clen Your Disk" option, (cookie/temp files, etc), then IE11 will lose all saved passwords. on Ccleaner the option "Saved Password" is UNticked.

On Chrome and Firefox instead, even by cleaning cookies and temp files, the passwords are still there.

Is it a bug or is "normal" ? I am not saying my IE11 is not asking me to save passwords as some other people reported, mine works fine just that once you clean temp files and cookies, also the passwords go.

thanks
Gab

Answer:IE11 Saved Passwords gone after cookie/temp files cleanup

Very normal, if you don't exclude your forums cookies from the clean list.

Folks,

Before I wiped my Windows 7 install, I exported my IE11 favorites into an HTM file, "bookmark", by using IE11's "export" feature.

My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.

How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.

Thanks,
Ken

How can I see my saved passwords in Windows 10 Edge? I have gone to Settings>View Advance Settings>Manage My Saved Passwords. When I click on "Manage My Saved Passwords" that right side box just goes completely blank...nothing in it. I hardly ever use IE or Edge, but had one program that required it a few years back, so had no choice then.

If you mean that the site remembers the password, just change it. You will be prompted if you want IE to remember the new password.

Hey guys so I am having an issue with passwords saving on Internet Explorer 11, the issue is when I go on Facebook and have my password saved, just so I can log in right away, but when I scroll down I find that other usernames are storing on Auto-Fill, for example, I use my mom's Amazon account because we share a credit card and my name is on it, the whole point I am trying to make here is that the username/e-mail from Amazon is saving onto Facebook, what can I do to go about getting rid of these unused usernames, I should also note I had this same issue with IE11 when I was still on Windows 7

Answer:How to remove Certain Stored Passwords in IE11

Hi see this image how to remove passwords:

Since you store passwords for credit cards I would recommend you to use tested open source software for saving passwords and compile it on your own for maximum security.
for example:
Password Safe / git-repo / [5e1e4c]

the password safe source code has been review by security experts such as Bruce Schneier https://www.schneier.com/
Using web browsers to save passwords is very bad.
There is also an installer however:
Password Safe

I recently saw the blog post promoting password managing apps and the added security that comes with it. And it got me wondering, is IE11 secure when it comes to managing passwords? Why or why not? I found articles about how easy it was to crack the stored passwords for IE7 and older, but I haven't found anything on IE11.
Follow up question. With the constant streams of news about companies getting hacked and password data possibly being compromised, what makes password managers like Enpass secure?

Answer:How Secure is Storing Passwords in IE11

Nothing is truly secure if anyone is able to really physically access your device. If that's not the case, you won't need to care too much about how IE or PW managers store their information. As long as they're stored locally. I for one wouldn't want to go with any cloud based solution like Lastpass. At least not to store sensitive information.

Hi,

I inadvertently deleted some files and folders in my user directory when attempting to clean up some temp files. I think that I restored all the deleted files, but I had to reinstall my smart-ups software and replace all the application icons on the quick launch and in the start menu.

The only issue I have left to resolve at this point is IE11 remembering website passwords. When I login to a website such as the Seven Forums, when I click in the user name box, my user name will appear, but when I click in the password box, the password doesn't appear as it used to. Now I have to manually retype the password each time I login. I do get the pop-up bar at the bottom of the page that asks if I want IE11 to remember the password each time, but for some reason the remembered password isn't there the next time I attempt a login.

Is there a fix for this issue?

Regards

Answer:IE11 doesn't remember passwords

I resolved this issue by completing a repair install of Win 7.

Windows 8.1 uses the Credentials Manager to export some credentials. It does not backup the passwords in IE11.
There appears to be no central registry location where passwords are stored.  I'd rather use IE's saved passwords rather than a third-party; such as Identity Safe from Norton.  This question was addressed in the Microsoft Community with no results.
Here's the link to Microsoft Community.
Any reasonable tips or direction will be greatly appreciated.
As always - TIA

Question: Saved passwords

So there was a nasty storm near my house yesterday. The power flickered on and off several times. Rather than my computer just shutting down, it would power off, but power back on right away. This happened several times. Now when I try save usernames and passwords on a site, it doesn't work. I have to constantly log back in every time I go back to a site. I check the "save password" box, and I click "remember" on the drop bar when it asks me if Mozilla should save the password. But I still have to log back into every site. Is there a fix for this?

I'm using Mozilla, and Windows Vista

Question: Saved Passwords

Help. I've scoured the internet on advice and have had no luck. I have a laptop running windows XP Pro. After downloading and installing a trial version of CorelDraw (from their website, not a 3rd party) my system can not remember any saved passwords. I am forced to manually enter passwords everytime when prompted. This includes Windows Live Messenger, Outlook 2007, mapped network drives, etc... The only exception is that Mozilla is able to remember any passwords I have saved on the Internet. This only seems to be a local machine issue. I have since uninstalled CorelDraw. I contacted their support and they informed me that it was IMPOSSIBLE for their program to cause any of this, despite my errors occuring IMMEDIATELY after I installed their trial. I have been looking for password caching issues and registry corrections. I have had no such luck. I am tired of entering my password for Outlook every 30 minutes. I am almost to the point of recovering XP but I would prefer not to go this route.

Answer:passwords saved

Hello
In Internet Explorer, click Tools/Internet Options. Choose the content tab, then click the settings button next to Auto complete. Make sure the box is checked for Prompt me to save passwords.
OK your way out of there, and close and reopen Internet Explorer.
It should begin prompting you to save passwords. When you return to a site you have previously saved the password for, after the user name is filled in it will fill in the password for you.

Hope this is the right forum to post this, if its not.. just leave me know where to go! ThanksProblem: Friend of mine has just rang me in hysterics & she said her boss logged into her PRIVATE email account. They only have one PC in the office (only 4 working there) and my friend is the receptionist who works on the computer. Anyway, she has her email password with her internet provider saved (for example, when she types her log-in on the e-mail site, the password automatically appears)So now she's freaked out of her brain & wants to know how to delete the saved password. She's using Windows 98 & office 2000 (her employers dont have any interest in IT, as you can guess!)Any ideas on what to do?? THANKS

Answer:Passwords that are saved on PC's

There are many programs you can use in order to help remove private info.I suggest your friend clears the Internet history, cache and cookies everytime she logs off. Do this by going to (IE) Extra -> Internet optionsor by Start -> Configuration -> Internet OptionsYou can also use programs such as System Mechanic 4 professional which is equipped with a number of tools that help boost privacy. IoloOr perhaps Advanced System Optimizer:Advanced System OptimizerThese programs are NOT freeware. I also suggest that your friends sets all the programs to not save passwords and other personal data.

i am trying to get into a site i used a long time ago when i used IE as my default browser. since then i have changed e-mail so many times i can't even remember, and i can't for the life of me remember my password. I know that in FX you can easily find a list of all the passwords that are saved, and actually see what the password is. the password is saved in ie, so i can obviously still get onto the site, but i am trying to use ie as little as possible since i have discovered the beauty of FX. so is there any way to see what the password is like you can in FX, or by going into some IE directory?

this is my personal computer, and i am the only person who uses this user (thats why there's a guest account) so please trust me and don't think i am trying anything mechivious.

Hey all, Just wrote all this out for another forum but since I just registered here for some help ( shameless plug) I thought Id share a trick I just discovered.

Problem

If you go to:

Tools > Options > Security > Show Passwords > Show Passwords > Yes

You will notice that anyone who is using your Firefox profile on your computer can look at all your passwords in a matter of 6 clicks of the mouse. I personally dont share a computer and I have a password to login, but I occasionally let friends use my computer and I know that they know about this, so it has annoyed me no end that they could easily see all my passwords. Those reading this might not even have known about this but now you do, I can tell you how to change it. This is especially important if you share a computer and everyone uses the same Windows Profile, as anyone using the profile could see anyone else's username and password.

Solution

NOTE: This does require at least average knowledge of how to navigate Windows and use Windows systems, although I will try and explain everything very simply. As the computer know-how of the average Firefox user is higher than most other computer users, this shouldn't be too hard.

The solution to this isn't miraculously clever, it just hides the 'Show Passwords' button from the Options menu in the profile you are using. There are ways around this (explained at the end) but they are the kind of things only Advanced Users will know about and th... Read more

Answer:Log in/Passwords not being saved when browsing

Are you allowing cookies from these sites and are not deleting them when closing your browser session?

For security purposes, especially with banks and other financial institutions, including utilities such as gas and electricity (if that is the sort of site that you are on about), then this is the recommended scenario.

Indeed, I always recommend having to explicitly sign in to sites that require it. This is to prevent others, who might have access to your computer, from simply visiting the site(s) and cause you problems through masquerading as you.

Not exactly sure which passwords you're thinking about. If it is saved form/user/password data in IE then you can get rid of individual entries by highlighting the entry in the autocomplete drop-down list and pressing the delete key. To adjust the settings for autocomplete go to:

Tools > Internet Options > Content > AutoComplete

if it is some other passwords you are wishing to remove, please elaborate.

Hi Verac, do you have Firefox set to remove saved passwords when it closes? You should be able to check that in Tools -> Options -> Privacy -> Private Data -> Settings...although that may vary depending on which version of FF you are using.

All of a sudden, when I go to Tools/Options/Security/Saved Passwords, whereas I had about thirty of these listed and saved, they have now all disappeared! I have not downloaded or added anything to my system, so cannot think what has happened to them all. Is there any way to recover these, or do I have to go through the routine of setting them all up again? Thanks for any help.

Hi there, I'm running Vista with IE and for the last few days none of my passwords are saving, I can't download any files and I'm unable to view any videos (youtube and such)... I've tried everything I can think of and have done a virus scan with no results.

Any suggestions?

I have a company computer, a laptop that I use at work and also use some at home. With my time spent on it at work, I am on this computer more then my personal computer at home. As a result, I have just about all my passwords to various websites (banking, email, forums, etc) saved in the browsers for quick navigation.

I will be changing jobs soon and will not be taking this computer, with all the saved passwords, with me. Is there a way I can transfer my passwords from my work computer to my personal computer?

I know this isn't a question exclusive to IE but I can't find an answer anywhere.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Transfer saved passwords from one laptop to another?

See:
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_backup and Backing up your information
http://kb.mozillazine.org/Transferri...file_-_Firefox

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

For the passwords you need two files: key3.db and signons.sqlite (previous versions of Firefox used a file signons#.txt).
Key3.db stores the encryption key for the signons.sqlite file and without that matching key3.db file you can't access the encrypted password.
You can look at the Password Exporter extension to backup and restore the names and passwords.

I have had this problem previously and thought it had corrected itself, but it has started up again:- I have a list of about forty or so saved passwords in Firefox, under "Tools/Options/Security/Saved Passwords", but recently that window is showing as completely blank. Some time later, the passwords are all back, but it can take some time for this to come about. For example, at present they are still all missing after about two hours. I cannot think what I might have done to cause this, and any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Answer:Firefox Saved Passwords Problem

You might want to try a restart. I had problems with firefox losing everything, my home page, everything. It was just a blank orange screen, I thought I was going to have to go to Internet Explorer and download a new firefox. I restarted it and everything came back. Also a thought to remember, I take a screen shot of the passwords, actually 2 of them cause I also have a lot and then print them out or put them in a folder just incase this would happen. The last update really messed my computer up as far as firefox goes. So far it is working good.

call me a noob, but how easy is it to find out someone's passwords that uses internet explorer?

i know if IE has a password saved, you can use a dropdown, select their username, and it will fill in the "*******" of their password, and you could log in, but you still wouldn't HAVE the password. even if you selected the asterisks, copy and pasted it into notepad, you end up with garbage.... not a plain text rendering of the password.

i mean, are these easy to find in the registry or something? can i dig up a text file somewhere that has them sitting out in plain sight?

i just DLed firefox 1.5, and was lookig through the options... there's a "saved passwords" tab in there, and if you click a button it will just spit out all your usernames and passwords in plain text in one easy to read window.

like i said, call me a noob.... i know firefox "got them from somewhere", but i guess i just never realized where that was. it just seems like it would be a pretty simple process to retrieve them... they aren't hashed or whatever?

Answer:firefox and saved passwords... easy to see

As far as Windows goes, there is a hack that will enable some one to view what's behind the astericks. Using the hack, Windows will no longer hide a password.

With FireFox, you can set a master password so that in order to retrieve a password from the list, you have to enter the master password first. All of this, I think, is encrypted. Try looking in the User.js file.

I used Chrome at someone else's house and saved my facebook password, now they have access to my facebook account. Shutting down the computer doesn't erase it. I am not able to access that computer anymore so I can't delete the password. Does anyone know how to get around this so this person can't access my account anymore? Thanks

Answer:[SOLVED] Chrome - Saved Passwords on different PC

Go to Facebook on your own computer and change your password in the security settings. This will prevent the other person from logging into your account because the password stored on his computer will no longer be valid.

I had to replace my son's laptop due to him spilling soda on the old one. Luckily, I was able to save the hard drive and it is now in a case and usable as an external hard drive.

He had a password saved in Firefox 3.0 that he does not know and needs in order to access a site for an online class. (There is no automated password recovery).

Is there a file on the old hard drive that contains saved passwords and can be copied over to the new hard drive?

Answer:Firefox Saved Passwords Recovery

You can copy and paste the profile files from the old drive to the new profile on the new drive. You need to show hidden files, and folders first.

Go to Control Panel > Folder Options > View > Select "Show hidden files, folders" once that is done your firefox profile is located at:

In windows 2000, XP - C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\XXXX.default (XXXX will be a alpha-numeric name)

Vista, Windows7 - C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\XXXX.default

To return the fresh install of firefox to the same settings as the old install (including bookmarks, passwords, etc) copy all files from old firefox profile, into the new firefox profile.

Can I create a backup for my passwords like I can for my bookmarks so that I can simply restore it to Mozilla if I clean install?

"Although many use a password manager like LastPass or KeePass to store online passwords, others rely on the browser to provide password management. If you use the Google Chrome browser, you may have noticed that (as of this writing) it has no way to back up stored passwords. There is a way to sync passwords among different computers but no direct backup for external storage.

The well-known freeware author Nir Sofer has stepped into the breach and provided a utility to make up for the absence of a Chrome password backup. Itís called ChromePass and is a stand-alone, portable executable. It comes in a number of languages and provides for the export of password information to several formats, including a CSV file for importing to KeePass. The program is described at this NirSoft link, where it can be downloaded."

I recently upgraded Firefox to v3.5.1. I also just noticed saved userid/passwords weren't being filled in. I checked FF Tools->Options to check my saved passwords (like i've done many, many times in the past) and it is now blank. Everything has been deleted!

So this post is part warning and part question. Anyone else see this happen as well?

Seems a quick Google search showed someone else posting same problem. So be warned before upgrading!

Answer:Yikes! Firefox v3.5.1 deletes saved passwords?

I would do some experimenting between data such as saved passwords and the privacy settings. There may be some conflict with these settings

When "private" browsing is set, and also, "warn me when I try to close multiple tabs", is checked. sometimes it gives the warning, and sometimes not. Which is usually a big head rush when it unceremoniously closes 50 or so tabs on you.

I know this isn't directly addressed to your post, but just my 2 cents regarding this version. It seems a bit buggy, (perhaps slow), and more than a little eccentric.

I'm still rather fond of version 2.0.

Okay, so here's my question. On my laptop about a year back, running WinXP MCE 2005, I accidentally mistyped a wireless password. After that day, I could go in and delete the network from advanced properties, change the password, in advanced properties and just by clicking connect and letting it fail once. And it would always revert back after a reboot to the incorrect password. I Googled for awhile and found no solution to fixing it and eventually I upgraded my laptop so it didn't matter. Now, my girlfriend's new freshly formatted laptop running WinXP Home is doing the exact same thing at her job. She fat-fingered the password once and everyday it resets back to the wrong password.

Any solutions? Command line switches or something I can run to clear the wireless key cache? Files I can delete?

*Note: The one I'm trying to fix is running WinXP Home. SP3, fully updated.

Whenever you visit a website that requires you to enter login details, your Internet Explorer will prompt you "Do you want Internet Explorer to remember the password for xyz website?" If you click 'Yes', then you will not be required to enter the login details again when you visit that site. This removes the hassle of entering the login details every time you visit that site.

Internet Explorer stores all your login details in an encrypted format in the Windows Registry. The passwords can not be seen by anyone in text format or by looking in the registry. If you want to see your saved passwords, you'll have to use a third party program. Such software will search for the saved passwords of IE in the Registry and show them to you in plain text format.

I have Windows Vista, Safari 4 and Firefox 3.0.10. Also Comodo internet security.

Not long after I installed comodo on my computer all the usernames and passwords i enter into websites stopped being saved (despite ticking save my username boxes). I'm not hugely bothered about passwords because i don't really like saving them but having to write in my username every time is getting seriously irritating if I'm signing into these things like > 10 times a day. Sorry if this is really petty.

I figured that it was something to do with installing comodo seeing as that was when the problem started but I've looked around that and have no idea what im looking at. I also looked at lots of forums but none seem to have the same problem or the right solution (especially none to do with comodo). My usernames simply aren't saved no matter what settings I change and fiddle around with be it cookies or even just the clear private data settings. On firefox i also tried the about:config stuff after looking up what might be the problem there and all seems to be ok. Then again I'm not much of a computer whizz (hence the problem) so i might be missing something. I installed Safari hoping to find a browser that might work but no luck.

Does any one know what might be the problem? I am open to all suggestions (even if i've already tried them). Cheers.

Hi All,
I'm having trouble in an AD environment whereby group policy fails to apply if the user has saved passwords (control panel > user accounts > advanced > manage passwords) to access resources on the DC

Microsoft recommend deleting the saved passwords and running gpupdate /force, however this is far from ideal as users will simply cache their passwords and GP once again breaks. I cant be removing saved passwords from 40 pc's every time theres a change in group policy.

Event viewer logs the following:

Event ID: 1030 Source: Userenv
Windows cannot query for the list of Group Policy objects. A message that describes the reason for this was previously logged by the policy engine.

Event ID: 40961 Source: LSASRC Category: SPNEGO (Negotiator)
The Security System could not establish a secured connection with the server ldap/XXXX. No authentication protocol was available.

Does anyone know of, or can anyone think of a workaround for this problem?

Question: IE11 vs. Edge

Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible?

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated? On my other desktop PC I have no issues. All language settings and packs are correctly set as UK. Am at a total loss. I tried a restore point but that was no better. I've had this issue crop up intermittently ever since getting the laptop. Sometimes it works ok but after a while the issue will re-occur without rhyme or reason. I notice under family setitngs 'Can't connect to family settings, your user data may not be upto date' sometimes comes up too. Answer:Outlook.com unreachable via edge and IE11

The machine seems to be having real problems signing into MS. For example if I launch films and TV I see lower left 'Can't sign in'. I think there is something amiss logging into the MS account causing all the issues. Store is slow and unable to update apps, always an error message after ages of acquiring license. I don't really want to have to try and create a new user acc given everything I have setup/installed
