Preferred Solution: Reading Pane in Mail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Reading Pane in Mail

Can't imagine why would you like it like that but clicking on those 4 lines icon on the top right turns reading pane off.

Yesterday afternoon my mail app suddenly decided that I no longer wanted the reading pane off to the right side unless I am in full screen mode. If I open the window wider (but not full screen) it will either let me have the preview screen or the bar off to the left with the list of accounts, but not both. If I open the mail app in full screen it has both the preview pane and the ribbon on the left.
I'm sure I must have clicked something to make it do this but have no idea what. I've clicked and unclicked "show preview text" a few times and completely restarted once to no avail. What have I done and how do I fix it? I'm using a desktop PC.

I can't seem to disable the "Reading Pane" in Outlook 2003. Under "View" > " Reading Pane " I get no response when clicking on "Reading Pane."

I am under the impression that it is a good idea to keep the Reading Pane "off" so as not to "open" automatically emails which may contain viruses.

Any suggestion, on how to turn off the Reading Pane in Outlook 2003 when my Reading Pane "switch" seems to be disabled, would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Hello,

I keep getting the following message while clicking on a link in the reading pane of Outlook: "This operation has been cancelled due to restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your System Admin."

Well, I am the Admin and I've checked every conceivable setting in Outlook and my browsers (both firefox and explorer) and it still can't figure out what the problem is.

I am behind a Linksys wireless "WRT54GS" router.

This started happening a few days ago and I haven't loaded any new programs.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

I'm having a weird problem. All of a sudden, the reading pane in outlook went away. I've tried setting it to both settings (Right, Bottom, and even Off). Tried going through Programs and repairing office ultimate. Also uninstalled outlook from there and re-installed, but still won't show.

Any ideas on how i can get it back! All I see is the list of emails, and then I have to double click to open in seperate window and read/respond/etc.

TIA!

Do you by any chance have Dell MediaDirect on your system? If so, try uninstalling it, reboot and check Outlook again. I had the same problem until I did this and it worked.

Hi Guys,

I have been doing some research and it seems that the reading pane in outlook isnt that safe. In most of the sites i visited it said it was better to turn this off so you dont open your self up to viruses. Can somone confirm this is true before i send an e-mail round my organisation telling them to turn it off.

The reason i started to look into this was when one of our users started to recieve loads and loads of spam mail i have sorted the problem wit that now but because she had her reading pane on it seemed to infect her computer but if she had to double click on the e-mail to open it this would not have happend. Can anyone please confirm if this is the case also.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:How Safe Is The Reading Pane In Outlook?

Though turning it off is recommended, good email AV should be sufficient.

And, no, double-clicking does not protect anyone. Opening the mail by any means has the same effect.

A good AV with a "resident shield" is sufficient in most cases, but the added email scanning feature of AVG, for example, that scans incoming mail, adds even more security.

The point really is that mails from unknown persons or with suspicious titles should not be opened at all.

Is there a way to globally diable Outlook 2003's reading pane?

Answer:Disabling Outlook 2003's Reading Pane

Well, it USED to be that you could do a command line switch:

outlook.exe /nopreview

But I don't know if that still works in 2003.
And I don't know what you mean by globally--all views on one PC? all PCs?

Every time I create a new folder in Outlook 2003 the Reading Pane "Hide header information" option is enabled by default. I know I can select View / Arrange By / Custom / Other Settings and then uncheck the "Hide header" box, but this is tedious if I'm setting up several new folders.

According to Microsoft no global change can be made to this value in the Reading Pane. Does anyone know of a tweak or utility which can set the default to show the header in the Reading Pane view?

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bits with a monitor in portrait.

For that reason I would like to get the preview pane in Explorer at the bottom of the screen for having a readible preview for example of a pdf (because the new 16:9 screen are getting so low, and thus so narrow in portrait).

Is this possible.

In that way one could also choose to have a filmstrip of the pdf :

- Landscape monitor : pane right : full pdf view
pane bottom : filmstrip of pdf pages.

- Portrait monitor : the opposite

I have the reading pane activated in Outlook 2003. I've noticed that when any email is shown in the reading pane, the header information is followed by approximately 10 blank lines before the message text is shown. This happens regardless of the location of the reading pane (below or to the right). If I open the email, everything looks fine. The blank lines are annoying because I usually have to go to the reading pane and scroll down to see the entire message. I should also add that the blank lines are fixed, so when I scroll through the message the white space stays there and doesn't scroll. Any solutions? I'm running XP SP2.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm using Outlook 2003 (on Exchange) on an XP Pro machine. I have it configured to give me 2 email accounts. I have the reading pane activated on both accounts.

I used to be able to print (clicking the print icon or using the menu) from the reading pane without actually opening the email for each of the two accounts. Now, I can only do it from one of the accounts. The error message I get when I try to print from the second account is: "Message headers cannot be printed. Download the complete message and then print."

The fact that I used to be able to print from both, but now only from one leads me to believe I inadvertently changed a setting. Someone suggested it may be a security setting, but I have no idea.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

I'm using an Acer Windows 7 machine with MS Outlook 2010.

When I left-click and hold on the scroll bar of the reading pane
when viewing a long email, and move the mouse/scroll bar
up/down, the email doesn't scroll up/down with me as I move
the scroll bar. When I release the mouse, then the email moves

How can I get Outlook 2010 to smoothly scroll, like it does every-

I find the 100% setting for reading emails in Outlook 2010 too small and would like to set 150 or 200% as a default but I can't find any facility for this and I have to adjust the setting manually every time. Can anybody advise me please?

Answer:Outlook 2010 reading pane zoom default

Hello again urbanspaceman1

You have two options for doing this:

Option 1:
Create a new email type something and go to the "zoom" feature on the top right.
Select the percentage% you want the fonts to be displayed at.

Note: The fonts may not appear large when you are viewing them on the reading pane or double click open the email. For that view you will have to always manually zoom it yourself on the right corner in the bottom but you will be able to see the fonts large when you hit reply after doing the 2 points mentioned above.

Or

Option 2:

Change your DPI settings following this tutorial:
http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/443-dpi-display-size-settings-change.html

I will search for similar stuff.
Till then, HTH

Basically, every time I open a word document, I want it to open in reading layout. I know I can select this option through the menu in MS Word. However, I need this to be a permanent setting and want to make this change through the registry editor.

Howdy,
Been searching for this one for a bit. Found loads on Blank Reading Pane however this is slightly different.

Have a home user who some messages are not displaying in the reading pane. These are mainly from Facebook and some various ones from their work colleagues.

When choosing reply message is also blank however selecting Office Button > Editor Options > Display > Hidden Text (checked) the message content appears.

Why then is the message content not visible in the main preview pane? These are just the simple message notifications such as from facebook.

Looked at fonts / mail format (tried all variences) to no avail.

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

My MS Outlook (2003) reading pane has simply disappeared.  I've tried to get it to come back by selecting "bottom" "right" or "off" under the options.  I've tried restarting MS Outlook.  I've even rebooted.  No luck at all.  Any other suggestions or possibilities as to where it might have gone?  It doesn't appear to have been minimized or "hidden."  I'm honestly out of things to try.  Any help is appreciated!

After importing my email from OE6 in to Windows Mail in Vista my Windows Mail crashes everytime it shutsdown. I recieve a message that Windows Mail has stopped working and either have to select Close or it restarts itself.

I have tried removing my Antivirus software (AVG Free 8.0) but it still happens.

I believe it is related to the 'Info Pane' that I now have at the bottom of Windows Mail. This gives me the option to search the internet via Orange.co.uk. If I open 'View\Layout' I have the option for Info Pane as a tick box. However as soon as I move my cursor towards it it changes to 'Search Bar'. It looks like the 2 boxes are on top of each other but I can find no way to access the Info Pane box to turn it off.

I have also tried completely emptying the mail folder and letting Windows Mail recreate the folders but the problem and the Info Bar are still there.

I can't be sure that this is what is causing the problem but I believe it is a very likely culprit.

I really don't want to have to reload Vista in order to resolve such a small glich.

Try this:

Click Start button

Type "regedit" in to the search field

When Regedit opens, go to HKeyLocalUser\Software\Microsoft\Windows Mail

(For backup purposes you can export this tree part in File>Export)

Find the key on the right called "BodyBarPath".

Delete it

Also delete the key refering to BodyBar location/placement

Hi
I have configured my new domain name email address in the Windows Mail internet 'Tools' > Accounts etc. The newly set up account 'name' does not present in the left windows navigation pane with 'Inbox' etc.like a couple of others I have!!
The unusual part about the configuration is ....I can send mail using the new email address to my main existing mail address which I have received but when I do a check send to the new address ...I don't receive the mail sent to the new address???
I know its in there some where due to sending and no bounce back ...spent quite a few hours trying everything to rectify this situation ...but to no avail!!!
The in coming mail server is POP3 110 - Outgoing mail (SMTP) 25 ...Same address mail.XXXXXX.com.au ...in both the incoming & outgoing as per host/provider instruction.
In the Tools > Accounts 'general' the rec & sync box is ticked ...understand that one!
All other boxes in 'servers' and 'advanced' with exception of the 'delivery' in 'advanced' (leave a copy... ) remain without ticks. Did try with ticking the boxes etc to see if I missed out on any format!! Still missing my new email address!!!
What is the process to setting up a new email account to appear in the left navigation email accounts pane?
Any assistance to adjust/correct the situation will be greatly appreciated. Ta!

Hi to all! I can't believe I'm starting my third thread about Windows Live Mail within a month, but when you practically live in your mailing system, any kind of illogical behaviour quickly becomes an irrritant. And this forum seems a marvellous place to report these things.

This thread is about another of those instances where Live Mail appears to be designed to work the same way as Outlook Express, but actually has odd quirks that are illogically different. It's is about the view of the folder pane to the left of the application window.

In my system, under "Storage folders" I have created a number of "category" folders, some with several sub-folders in them. The purpose is to be able to archive incoming messages logically, pending use or deletion at some later time. Pretty standard, I would have thought.

To prevent the column of folders from stretching down to infinity, and to keep things looking as tidy as I can make them, I generally keep the sub-folders hidden by clicking the little arrow to the left of the heading folder, which collapses the view of any sub-folders within it. In Outlook Express (and much other software) the equivalent to the arrow was a plus sign for expanding the view and a minus for contracting it. So far so good!

What I am finding extremely annoying is this. Suppose you have a batch of new email messages that you have just downloaded, and their headings are in view in the main list of emails, and you want to drag some ... Read more

There were some things in Windows 10 that I couldn't live with so I re-loaded Windows 7. After I did this my Windows Live Mail storage folders are not showing.

I searched for .eml files to see where they resided.

According to the search, the folders has thousands of emails.

When I opened my Outlook Express 6.0 yesterday everything seemed fine. But when I switched identities, I could not see the messages in the preview pane. Then, when I switch back to my default identity, the same thing occurs. If I close the program and then reopen it, the main identity is fine. I did notice a fix offered by sekirt, dated April 07,2004, in which they suggested closing OE, then click on start--> run. type in regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (noting space between the "2" and the "i") click OK. This worked once or twice, but only until I closed and reopened OE. I also made sure to restart, thinking that this would make this fix permanent. It did not. As a matter of fact, I just tried it for the third time, and it didn't work at all. I am running Windows XP Media Center Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 2 on a Toshiba Qosmio Notebook with Intel Pentium M processor 2.00 GHz, if that helps. What I don't understand is why this is happening on one identity and not the other. Any other ideas? I'm a novice at this, but can follow directions, even if I have no clue what you are doing. This is my first posting, so forgive me if I messed up anything in this posting. Thanks!

Question: Reading old e-mail

I have a lot of old email files saved on my computer back from when I had a local ISP. I can't read them, other than pages of html code and such in Firefox. I'd like to know which program could open these in their original form, pictures and all. I was using an older version of Netscape at the time, which I have deleted. I'm using Win98 and a slow dialup connection. Any ideas?

Answer:Reading old e-mail

Need more info.  How did you access your email with your former ISP?  Was it web-mail or POP mail?  If web-mail, how did you "save" it to your computer?

Is there a way to run a mail trace program, or find out if my mail is being forwarded by an administrator to another account?

I have a friend who had her mail redirected to someone else's account in the company, whilst her PC was being moved.

How does she know that the Goon who was receiving her mail has stopped reading it, and turned off the rule that sends her mail to his inbox...?

Also, the company that supplies the domain and the account administration may be reading her mail too. Is there any way to trace who opens a message, or who reads it...??

I could insert a script in my mail message, or an html image, and see how many times it gets viewed....? Does that sound like a plan...? The more secretive the better please!

I had to manually find all related files to OE6 to delete it so it would reinstall. Then the updates. Now nothing shows up on the preview pane or when I open the email. I can use Outlook instead but what is wrong? The only view of the message is in properties: details: message source.

Answer:Solved: OE has empty preview pane, open pane

1. With Outlook Express closed, go to Start>Run
2. Type in: regsvr32 inetcomm.dll (with the space after "regsvr32")
3. Click OK (or press the Enter key)
4. Open OE and see if things are fixed

When I open an instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane show little or nothing (no drives, folders, etc.). Also the preview pane does not show a preview for any selected files (See Capture1.JPG).
If I open a second (or higher) instance of windows explorer, the navigation pane functions properly (the preview still does not show) (See Capture2.JPG).
I have previews set to show (See Capture3.JPG).
Also occasionally, the file icons will be blank instead of showing the file type specific icon. When this happens, the address bar also seems to take a long time to load. The load bar will stop before reaching the end and won't finish (See Capture4.JPG).

Does anyone know what is going on or how to fix this?

FYI I am running 64 bit Windows 7 Pro.

Answer:Windows Explorer: Navigation Pane and Preview Pane Bug

Try Explorer++ and see if you get the same problem.

Need to enable "Folders" view.
If it works then you can rule out problems with system files and it's probably a buggy shell extension.

https://explorerplusplus.com/

It's portable and runs without installation.

Let us know if navigation pane works using Explorer++

Correct you need to contact whoever is in charge of libero.it

Now keep in mind they probably wont give your friend any information since it looks like the email was just relayed over their network and even for privacy reasons.

When I get an attachment to my e-mail (on Outlook Express) I frequently can't open it. I save the attachment, then double-click on it and I get a message saying that this program can't read it.
Then, I go to the box which lists other programs and I don't know which to try. Is there a list somewhere showing for a given file type (.doc, .pdf, etc.) which program to use?

Answer:Reading e-mail attachments

here's a great big huge list you can bookmark to keep handy.

odds are though you only get a few kinds on a regular basis
- when you open, after virus scanning!, an attachment, don't you have the PC make a file association so it knows what to open next time?

I am trying to move email msgs from inbox to my local folders (long list) to read later.

Presently I am using both Firefox and Thunderbird, v7.01. I am using XP home version service pack 3, pentium 4 cpu 320, with 275Gig of ram on a sony desktop unit.

Previously I haven't had this problem moving them, but now, I am having some intermittent problems moving some emails to a file folder already established, as they revert back to the alphabetic beginning of the list, rather than starting at that point I just used, as it has been doing. I keep my receiving list alphabetically by sender.

Previously, and even now, on occasion the "move to" list continues alphabetically from the last moved file, thereby keeping the moving alphabetically, but now more frequently it returns to the beginning of the alphabetic list starting with the letter "a" and so if my previous message was moved to the list at "VOTING",my list reverts to "A" and I have to then move down accordingly to the correct position.

Because I have a large list of "from folders position" this makes going through the mail very time consuming. Is there a fix for this?

I use WLM and have no problem with it.

You can also use most other e-mail accounts with it too.

The only e mail programme I use is Windows Live Mail. This normally doesn't give me any problems, but yesterday, I received three messages from Superantispyware Professional saying there was an update. My problem is, the message will not open in a way that is easily readable.
It appears to have all the code on display and makes the messages a bit silly. I have tried setting WLM to open in Plain Text, but this had no effect, so reverted back by unchecking that requirement.
Any body any ideas as to how I can open the messages so that they can be read?
Thanks
TonyV

Answer:Reading messages in Windows Live mail?

If Superantispyware is your install antispyware program. I would go direct to their home site and check for any updates.
If not I would delete and ignore any further emails from them, maybe a adding them to the spam folder.

Hello and a Happy New Year,

I hope someone out there can help me with the problem I am having with Microsoft Outlook. What happens is when receiving emails that are composed using plain text I have nothing come up on the screen other than the outlook window. There is no type in the body of the message. There are no error messages or anything to give an idea of what is happening. Is there some sort of parameter that needs to be set??

The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium and the Office is Enterprise 2007.

I have managed to protect the same e-maill address for about ten years or more and have managed to keep the spam down to just one or two a day at most.

Someone is sending me spam a couple of times a day, always with a different return address. There is never any text in any of the mail. It's one of those things where they type it, put in their pictures and then convert it all to an image and embed it the e-mail. It looks like text; but, it's just a picture of text.

Anyway, here are the headers and I need to know how to read them so I can send an abuse report. Better still, if someone could give ma a link to a tutorial on how to read mail headers, that would be nice.

Answer:Reading my Outlook Express mail while overseas

Unless BT is different from most other isp's, you should be able to log into their website and retrieve your emails. You should also have the option to leave the emails on the server or to delete them. This won't use Outlook Express, but will be via Internet Explorer or another browser. The emails will be the same. You should also be able to send emails the same way.

Last night, while reading what appeared to be a legit e-mail received via Yahoo over a FiOS FTTP internet connection and being read via Mozilla's SeaMonkey, v.2.40 browser/e-mail client, I had a sudden and seemingly temporary BSOD. I saved the Microsoft message that popped up in RTF format but DM collector program has apparently captured that info and a lot more. Having never seen anything like this, I am thoroughly baffled.

The PC involved is a 64 bit Dell Optiplex 780 with Windows 7-Pro, fully updated, with Kaspersky 2017 Internet Security s/w installed.

While I go back to the IBM PC-2/MS-DOS 6 era, I have never really understood any of the Windows NT variants that followed the Windows 9.x family.

Thanks, in advance, for any advice, explanations, or suggested follow-up actions.

I am having trouble reinstalling Windows Live Essentials where I am getting Error 0x8007064c Source: WLXSuiteLang. Answer:Problem re-installing Win Live Mail. Help needed reading CBS.log

Please post the sfc /scannow log in your topic.  I will not download anything to my computer without knowing exactly what it contains.

To find sfc /scannow log, type cmd in the Search programs and files box.

cmd will appear above the search box under Apps., right click on it and choose Run as administrator, this will open the Elevated Command Prompt.  This will look simlare to the image above.

Copy and paste the following in the Search programs and files box, then press Enter.

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt

This will place a new icon on the desktop titled sfcdetails.  Click on this to open the log, copy it and paste it in your topic.

Is it possible to have no Nav Pane when opening a Desktop folder, but have Nav Pane when opening Win Explorer? Like it was in WinXp/Win98/Win95?
When I disable Nav Pane, it disappears for Desktop folders and Windows Explorer.

I think the answer was 'no' for Win7.

I installed Classic Start Menu hoping one of it's features could do it. If it does, I've not been able to enable it. Other than that, Classic Start Menu is a super improvement.

RESOLVED: See second post, here.

Original Post:
I have looked around a little, but haven't seen anything specifically about this particular problem.

Windows 7 Enterprise x64
Office 2010
All latest MSUpdates, etc
This problem just started happening to me this afternoon.

Normally, when I open an e-mail that has a URL in it, Outlook displays that URL to me as a hyperlink. However, now they are just displaying as text, and to use them, I have to copy and paste into browser.

This is not an issue with hyperlinks not functioning properly. No error messages, nothing. The URLs simply aren't hyperlinks.
To be clear, the e-mails in question definitely have URLs that Outlook on another computer (at home) is still indeed displaying as hyperlinks....same e-mail....hyperlinks at home, but no longer here on my work computer.

I have not tried it yet on a different work computer (next step), but I did try it with a different 'profile' in Outlook, and got the same behavior (or lack of behavior).
It's not happening to all e-mails in all e-mail accounts. I have a bunch of e-mail accounts that I access through Outlook, and this problem is only happening to certain ones.

Example: I have at least 3 e-mail accounts on a single domain. This problem is happening to the e-mails in the inbox (and/or any other folder within that account) of two of these accounts, but not the other one.
Also, I notice that the e-mail messages this is happening to are all 'plain text'. Howev... Read more

Answer:Outlook 2010 - URLs no longer display as hyperlinks when reading mail

I figured it out.....and yep....it was something I did.

File
Options
Mail
Editor Options
AutoCorrect Options
AutoFormat tab
Replace
Internet and network paths with hyperlinks
For some reason, I was going through and turning off all kinds of autocorrect stuff (cause I hate that stuff), and didn't realize that this particular setting governed how e-mail gets displayed.

I thought since it was in the section called 'Editor Options' within the section called 'Compose messages', it was only relevant to what happens while composing new e-mails.

At any rate, I got it taken care of. :-)

I play Battlefield 2, and I jsut recently baught the Booster Pack from Microcenter.  The original game works just fine, but whenever I put in the Booster Pack CD to install it, my CD Drive starts making weird scratching noises and it does not read the CD.  I already tried exchanging the CD's to see if maybe the disc was defective, but neither disc that I have baught works.  Any ideas? Thanks!

I have an issue with my Lite-On DVD Combo drive model GCC 4120B for sometime now. It has a very difficult time reading certain types of cd's, mainly original game cd's or dvd's. It doesn't have really any issues reading burned cd data whether music, video or whatever. The computer harddrive was completely reformatted and new OS put on (XP Pro) and still have issues. Even bought a new cd-rom but still has the same issues. If I put in a game cd or original dvd it takes forever (up to 3-5 minutes) and sometimes not at all before I can see what files on it or run an install or play the dvd. I am guessing it is more to do with the motherboard, cables or maybe a crappy harddrive. Please forgive the long thread, but at my whit's end with this. I am just an old retired Marine Gunny living abroad in Ethiopia (don't ask why) and getting a decent pc here is ridiculous as the tax is overwhelming. I bought this old refurbished Dell Optiplex GX280, Windows XP pro, 80gb Western Digital Sata hardrive, 2gb of ram and this cdrw/dvd combo for the price of probably 2 new ones in the states. Anyway all and any advice would be greatly appreciated from you highly knoweledgeable guru's out there. Also I have taken the cd's to other computers and they access quickly with no issues.:confused

Have a look on other thread, please refrain from double posting, it will decrease response time, infact it may annoy members and stop them from replying, however i think this one was an accident?

Hey everyone. Happy early Labor Day Weekend!

This morning I plugged in my 8gb USB (with only a few songs on it) and my computer didn't recognize it at all. It just wanted to format it. So I formatted it, but it only formatted it for 1gb of storage space. Any solutions? Thanks.

Answer:8GB USB not reading correctly (reading as 1.75gb)

Are you talking about a thumb-drive / flash device, or a small usb hard-drive?

i just bought a new sata drive for my computer because it was needed it is a 120g. i had it installed and then when i got home i saw it only showd 24 g out of 120g. i was told to update the bios i did that and called HP to do it correctly but it still says on my c drive that i only have 24g.

Answer:not reading my 120g only reading 24g

You are going to have to give us more info on your problem since we will have more questions than answers before we even start trying to help you... at least, I know I do

For instance... is this a back up drive or the Main OS drive? Did you reformat the drive after connecting it? How did you install it? I have a feeling your drive is partitioned, you just gotta Activate the other partition(s) and assign a a Letter to it.

Answer:DVD combo not reading DVD but reading CD

Hello and welcome to Techspot.

Sounds to me that the drive is faulty. It`s only 2 months old so it will still be under warranty. Get it replaced.

Hi all,
I am hoping someone will be able to give me some sort of advice as to what may be going on and/or what to do, or where to go next. I have a Gateway NV73 LapTop…that possibly may not even matter, though. I am using Windows 7.
I’ve recently (a month ago) installed Magic Jack onto my laptop-and have had zero issues until now. I was in the process of writing/burning a music CD via Nero 7 Premium. I was on my 2nd CD (I finished one CD, and it worked just fine), when all of a sudden my computer would no longer read my blank CD …later to realize that is was not reading any CD. And even later to realize that my computer was reading my USB post (where my Magic Jack is installed) as my CD Drive.
Ive tried DVDS, CDS, and it will not pick up anything. It always prompts me to “insert a CD and opens my CD door). So, it opens and closes fine…the green light goes on and then off. And it even registers as if it is TRYING to read the CD drive because the CD light above my keyboard constantly is blinking on and off.
I’ve uninstalled Nero. I’ve cleaned the registry via PC tolls registry cleaner. Ive even deleted the filters (both lower and upper). And nothing has worked. I wiped off the CD lens too.
Does this appear to possibly be something installed on my computer that is suspicious….?
Any words of wisdom will help. I use my CD-Rom all the time!
Thank you in advance!

Answer:CD-ROM Not Reading/USB Reading As CD-Rom Drive

You don't say what the condition of the PC was when the drive stopped working, were you connected to the internet, was there any likelihood there was an incoming call or were you also performing any other task?
Could the drive have failed? If it suddenly went down and fails to recognise any CD after a lot of use (" I use my CD-Rom all the time") it could simply be worn out and failed.
The fact your PC is attempting to identify a drive and finding the USB may also be an indication.

Hello,
Outlook Express and Firefox. As the subject says, I occasionally wish to access my e-mail from Firefox when a link is presented. Previously clicking such a link opened the New Mail window in Outlook Express. Now it just opens Outlook Express. As these links usually have a pre programmed message, opening the 'New Mail' window manually doesn't really help?
Is this a Firefox problem as I have always up dated to the latest Firefox version.
Thanks,
Alec

Answer:web browser e-mail link opens the correct mail programme but not the new mail window.

You could try resetting the default email program support.mozilla.org first reset it to 'always ask' and then close down Firefox. Then open Firefox and reset it to Outlook Express and close down and open again. (to be certain FF clears its prior memory and saves the new setting)
If that doesn't work then it might be a bug in the latest FF

They 2 doesn't seems to talk to each other... even though they carry the same name... Is that any special setting(s) I need to tick?

Answer:Reading List as a standalone app vs Reading List in Edge

No, I don't think there exists a cloud sync between these two unlike chrome or pocket applications.
