How do I import saved IE11 favorites into Edge?

Question: How do I import saved IE11 favorites into Edge?

Folks,

Before I wiped my Windows 7 install, I exported my IE11 favorites into an HTM file, "bookmark", by using IE11's "export" feature.

My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.

How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.

Thanks,
Ken

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I want to relocate my Internet Explorer Favorites into a different folder, for ease of backup.

When I right-click on the Favorites folder and select properties, I would expect to see a "Location" tab and then simply choose "Move"

However, when I look in the properties, there is no "Location" tab.

See attachment.

I have posted this question/complaint on another thread, but I have been locked out. So I'll try again. Why can't Microsoft fix the Edge import process to reliably import all favorites from IE 11? I have tried all the workarounds including copying the IE 11 favorites to the <username>/appdata/local...directory and the editing the Registry. Nothing works. Why should it be so difficult for MS to implement a reliable Favorites transfer? What is the point of using Edge, when IE 11 is more friendly?

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have been using Windows 10 for over a year and the problem persists.

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Well, you didn't really tell us what problems you were having with performing the import.

So, let's skip the diagnosis and jump right to an alternative approach...

You might consider using a 3rd-party application called EdgeManage to see if you have better luck with performing an import operation from Internet Explorer.

Hi there

Is there any way to copy the stored passwords / account information saved in IE11 to edge

I've a couple of account logins (not Banks I hasten to add) on some sites where I can't remember all the details -- logon automatically in IE11 but I need to try EDGE a bit more now and can't remember those details.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Copy saved passwords / account info from IE11 to Edge

You should be able to find them in Manage Web Credentials in Control Panel. If there are only a couple you can click on "Show" and it will tell you your password and then you can enter it in Edge.

Both Edge and IE store user id/passwords here I believe but I'm not sure how to make one browser use the credentials saved by the other or even if you can.

Answer:Can't import favorites from firefox to edge.

Hi:

Disclaimer: I do not use Edge.

However, it looks as if the blue text to which your arrow points is a link -- did you try to click it?
I expect it would open some sort of drop-down or other menu from which to select Firefox as the source of the "bookmarks" (they are called bookmarks in Firefox)?
Then one would proceed to the next step, Step 5 (shown at the bottom of your screen shot): "Select Firefox from the list and then click "Import Button"".

There's also this tutorial -- perhaps it will help:

Hi, I'm using Edge and having a problem when I import Favorites from IE.

The problem I have is one folder in particular, St. Louis Rams that has 22 items in it, (see screen shot below) only one item/bookmark came over when I imported Favorites from IE to Edge. I checked, and as shown in the snip all the links are there. Also went to here %LocalAppData%\Packages\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge_8wekyb3d8bbwe\AC\MicrosoftEdge\User\Default and all the links are there too. The only place they're missing from is the Favorites in Edge after importing favorites.

I have tried importing them several times with no change in the St. Louis Rams folder, I did learn that as bookmarks are added in IE you can just import them again from Edge and it will only add the new ones to Edge favorites.

Does anyone have any idea why those didn't import with the rest of the links? And is there a way short of going to every site and bookmarking it in Edge to get them in Edge?

Answer:Import Favorites some are missing in Edge

To solve this problem I just highlighted each of the sites I wanted in file explorer and left clicked to open properties, then I highlighted the URL went to a tab, pasted the URL and went to the site. Once I was on the site I used the "star" in the address line to add bookmarks, create folders, etc...

Would have been much easier to import them along with the rest of my favorites from IE but this worked and now they're there. Thanks to anybody that read my post, I guess there's no solutions right now. Edge has glitches and isn't (IMO) near as obvious (organize favorites, add favorites) and easy to set up as IE was, I hope this isn't as good as it gets for Edge.

Also don't like that the folders are at the bottom of the list and individual links are at the top, I have bookmarks probably in the hundreds and have folders within folders. I've tried to manually swap them (folders at the top, links at the bottom) but it doesn't stay after you close favorites.

It seems like something may be going on with my profile. After I take my laptop home for the night and off the domain, the next day after I bring it back in, it wants me to import my favorites again. Its happened multiple times now. Its not creating a temporary profile or anything like that.

My Clickonce applications also need to be reinstalled which leads me to believe its some kind of profile issue.

If anyone has any thoughts or ideas, they'd be appreciated.

Hi everyone,
This is my first post on the forum. I tried Windows 10 over a year ago but decided to go back to 8.1. Ive decided to come over to Windows 10 permanently now so bare with me Im a total Windows 10 novice!!! :-) My question is about importing bookmarks in the Edge browser. With Internet Explorer in Windows 8.1 I always backed up my Bookmarks/favorites in HTM format by exporting to a USB flash drive for safe keeping. Also, Ive always used a local account on my laptop previously so when Ive done a clean install ive imported the bookmarks into explorer after Windows installation. Everywhere Ive searched on the net says that you cant import bookmarks in HTM file format directly into Edge yet. Ive read that with Windows 10..you have to firstly import the bookmarks into Internet Explorer 11 and then have Edge import them from the Internet Explorer browser. Is that still the case?
My current situation is I have my Bookmarks/favorites from Windows 8.1 saved in HTM file format on a USB flash drive and I want to know the correct method to transfer my Bookmarks over into the Edge browser in Windows 10.
Also, For future reference...When you have the bookmarks set up in Edge. How do you back them up correctly...and import them back into Edge when required?
I just want to be sure I understand the Import/Export Bookmark/Favorites file correctly and if it can be done in HTM file format as I used to be able to do in Windows 8.1.
Thanks for your patience. Im sorry if that was a ... Read more

If I remember right, it was an easy step by step process. And now I have no idea what to do, my computer is freaking out, and I am generally not impressed with this new update. And the apps! Apparently I have too many already, and that's within the first five minutes? What did they install on here??

This is really a MS EDGE question, but as there isn't a forum category for it (why on earth isn't there) I will ask it here in the IE 11 forum. Has anyone written a script, extension or plugin that will allow me to search through my extensive favorites collection?
Is there an app that can accomplish this almost universal service in every other browser?  I try to use the browser native to the OS I'm using. I have looked in other MS support forums and not an answer to be found about this. Several iterations
of this very basic question have gone unanswered for almost 3 years.  Is MS
trying loose customers? Any suggestions?  Any idea about why there isn't a forum category for EDGE. When it launched, it looked as though MS was sincere about maintaining a net browser, but they also acted as though they were going to
make, sell and support mobile phones, but we all know what happened with that.  Any answer at all regarding these questions would be greatly appreciated.

When you click on a Favorite in Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 10 (1607), IE only opens a blank page.

We could narrow that problem down - it apparently only occurs if Favorites are redirected to a file share and Enhanced Protected Mode ist enabled.

It works fine in IE11 on Windows 7 though using the same configuration (redirected Favorites + Enhanced Protected Mode).

I miss something somewhere that this was fixed? Can anyone confirm?

I have enough icons in the Edge favorites bar that they do not all show in a browser window. Before the Creator update, at the right end of the items that showed there was a down carrot that expanded vertically down to show a list of the remaining favorites beyond those displayed horizontally. I'm not getting the down carrot now unless I toggle the "Show only icons of the favorites bar" setting. Then the down carrot comes back, but only for that Edge session. Toggling the "Show Favorites Bar" setting does not fix the issue. Any thoughts?

All of my IE favorites are stored in My Documents in the "Favorites" folder. How do I make them actually work on Internet Explorer? How do I "import" them?

Answer:how do i import internet explorer favorites from the "Favorites" in My Documents?

If it's the actual shortcuts themselves, copy them to C:\Documents and Settings\%username%\Favorites. If it is a bookmark.htm file, then import it by opening the browser and clicking File, Import and Export, and then follow the wizard.

My IE11 instance was re-sorting my shortcuts on the favorites bar no matter what I did. I'd drag a shortcut to a different spot and within 2 seconds it'd snap right back where it was. This started about a month ago (Sept 2014), and I've been using Win 8 ever since the Jan 2013 $39 upgrade offer, and never saw this before.

Here's how I fixed it, althought I'm not sure why this fixed it: I opened RegEdit and went to

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\MenuOrder\Favorites\Links

I exported that entire Links key to .REG file on my desktop. Then I deleted that Links Key from the Registry. THEN, I merged my saved .Reg file back into the Registry, and lo and behold, I can sort manually again just by dragging. Go figure.

Hi Everyone,

I have just finished a clean reinstall of Win7 Home Premium following a BSOD incident --- cause unknown.

As no update was being offered following the install, I chose to install IE11 manually.
This appeared OK, and I then moved the Favorites folder to my D:\drive.
Checked registry and it appears in the appropriate "Shell" entry as D:\Favorites.

In the "View" Tab, I have Menu Bar and Status bar ticked, but the Favorites and Command Bar are greyed out completely.

I have imported some Favourites into the folder (from prior to BSOD) and they are all visible, and usable, when I click on the Favorites Tab. I can even see them in the Organise Favorites bit too.

Can anyone please shed any light on what is wrong here please, and hopefully, let me know how it can be remedied?

Thank you,

Ian

I recently upgraded to Win 10 64 and have decided that I am going to use Edge as my default browser. I have followed the directions on 2 websites now that tell how to transfer favorites from Firefox to Edge and seem to have hit a little snag. I am trying to transfer my favorites but every time I complete the steps, it takes my favorites and puts them in my favorites bar. I have a whole list of pages on my favorites bar in Firefox that I want to use for my favorites bar on edge. Why is the program turning my favorites from Firefox into my favorites BAR on edge? How do I transfer my favorites from Firefox into favorites on Edge and my favorites BAR in Firefox into my favorites BAR in edge? Thank you in advance for your help.

It appears that most of the posts regarding Internet Explorer were in this category, so I hope that I have the right one.

Without going into unnecessry detail, my problem is that a few days ago IE 11, Windows 8.1 would no longer load my bookmarks from my favorites bar and would pop up with a message about security. When I said to proceed, a second screen would pop up with a yellow band at the top with another warning about security and would then ask to proceed. When I clicked yes, the printer box would pop up with the original security request. When I clicked on this box to proceed, all the messages would then disappear and I would be left back at the home screen. When I went to the favorites center and tried to load a bookmark, nothing would happen.

Once again, without going to into unnecessary detail, I then spent the better part of the next three days looking for a solution on the internet and I have tried every single one of them. No, I have not recently added any software and I have not installed any additional hardware. Yes, all of my Microsoft updates are current. All of my hardware drivers are current. I cannot relate this problem to any specific event.

Sites that are entered manually will load and sites related to icons on the desktop will load. The problem appears to be related to the bookmarks in the favorites bar and favorites center.

I have tried the following: sfc (no problems), dism, system restore to a point well before I began experiencing this problem,... Read more

hi there,

I would like to know if it's normal that after doing a "maintenance" cleanup on the pc, Ccleaner & PC tools "Clen Your Disk" option, (cookie/temp files, etc), then IE11 will lose all saved passwords. on Ccleaner the option "Saved Password" is UNticked.

On Chrome and Firefox instead, even by cleaning cookies and temp files, the passwords are still there.

Is it a bug or is "normal" ? I am not saying my IE11 is not asking me to save passwords as some other people reported, mine works fine just that once you clean temp files and cookies, also the passwords go.

thanks
Gab

Very normal, if you don't exclude your forums cookies from the clean list.

hi there,

why does IE11 remove all web passwords when you use CC cleaner and the option "saved passwords" is UNTICKED? it seems as though it's ignoring that, unless they are stored elsewhere and they get cleaned with temp files and company cleanup.

That setting seems to work for Chrome and Firefox, where passwords are kept.

any ideas?

Hello all!!!

Lately I was having issues with my machine. Been years since I formatted. Finally after receiving a few blue screens I decided it was the time. I had backed-up my .DBX files messages in OE to a separate drive as with other important data. I dived in to the format. After all was said and done none of the .DBX files worked!!! I checked in Google to see if I was doing something wrong. All looked fairly straightforward except there was one tip about they might be read only, nope mine aren't. Since I had a fresh copy of everything I did transfer my old .DBX files to a desktop folder, where they still sit. I did try the import messages from File and it said it was successful, but nothing. I tried to drag & drop into the new message store, nothing. I even removed all the new files and replaced them with my old ones, no go.

Have I lost this info for good? Did I not b/u correctly? I could sure use some help here. Thanks in advance. Rich

My computer won't boot, likely because of an old registry cleaner that fouled something up. All I can run is the recovery console from the installation CD. Otherwise, it goes around in circle, giving options such as safe mode, but restarting each time.

But before the registry cleaner ran, it saved the whole registry as a ".reg file." If I could somehow run a registry editor from a boot CD and then import that .reg file into the registry that would perhaps allow the system to boot again.

Can anyone help?

I formatted my hard drive last night, but saved my e-mail folders beforehand. They show as dbx files on the disc.
Now that I come to import them back into Outlook Express I can't find where to put them! I get as far as Documents and Settings/Rhona/application data/ then the big long number that is my folder, but the sub-folders where I had saved the e-mails from aren't listed. I have already set up the folders within OE though.
Do I have to make these folders myself in order to import the dbx files to them, and if so, HOW?!

I am using XP Pro.

Answer:how do I import saved e-mails to Outlook Express?

Warning: this is W98 method - your XP eXPerience may differ

did you put any emails into the new subfolders (the ones with the names from your saved files)?

for some reasoon if the folder is empty, it doesn't create a corresponding .dbx file

just copy a junk email into each folder you want to import into from your saved files - doesn't matter what, it'll be overwritten.

then close OE

make sure the import ones have the right folder name, ending in .dbx
then copy, paste them into the folder, overwriting the ones you put the junk email into

that's the long way LOL

have you tried using the import function?
just identify the loccation and folders you want to import and they pop in with the same folder names

for future reference, here's the tomsterdam site for OE stuff

The Reset may have. If they're not in the Favorites folder, you'll have to reconstruct the list manually. Get in the habit of exporting the favorites to an HTML file. That way, if problems arise, you can simply import them from that file. I do this every time I need to re-install Windows because of some blunder on my part.

I have two PCs running Windows 8.1 and IE11 and a Surface 2. I have set them all to use Skydrive to sync Favorites. They all appear in the various IE11s but those added on the desktop lose the URL parameter when they arrive on the Surface. Favorites added on the Surface appear correctly on the PCs.
Having an even closer look I see that on the Surface the shortcuts added on a PC have the attribute 'Hidden' checked. Any ideas how I can unset them?
Any other ideas?
Thanks.

Answer:Syncing IE11 Favorites between Windows RT and Desktop

As I have found the problem, I will share the solution in case anyone else gets it...
Despite the Favorites folder being set to "Make Available Offline", shortcut folders inside it (as seen on the Surface) are not. So it is this parameter which is not being synced properly. Changing it for each sub-folder on the Surface, makes the Favorites work.

Hi All

I apologize if this has been discussed, however I could not find a thread related to my problems.

After being infected with the Vista Internet Security virus, (that's another story) my favorites are now all messed up.

When I click on Favorites in IE8, it lists old Favorites. When I open my bookmark.htm which is located in C:/Users/Guardianangel, all the correct Favorites are listed.

I've importing them several times, from the User folder, its says its completed, however no changes area made, it continues to list the old favorites.

When I click on Organize Favorites, the "correct" folders are listed.

I can see the correct Favorites in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents/Favorites

I searched bookmarks.htm and found two, one in C:/Users/Guardianangel/Documents and another one in Guardianangel/Documents. They are both the same .htm file.

I do not see a bookmark.htm with the old bookmarks, (I changed my file view to show hidden files)

I reset my IE8 back to the original default, and now both the Favorite and Organize favorites are both old. However, the bookmark.htm folders list the correct favorites, and the Favorite Folder lists all the correct folders.

Is having the two htm files messing it up? if so, which one do I delete? Is there a way to delete all favorites without having to delete one at a time.

I appreciate any help!!!

I am setting up my new machine (windows xp home), and i use Outlook 2002 from office xp suite (NOT outlook express), and while I've been able to import everything else into Outlook 2002, I can't get the favorites to import.

When I click on import/export, then pst files, etc, it asks me where the favorites are I want to import. I browse to them (they're on floppy), but it doesn't find them. They are THERE. I have opened them up and looked at the favorites and they are intact. I even tried dumping the folder from the floppy into documents and settings/all users, etc, etc, but that didn't work either. It just keeps saying it can't find the favorites and cycles me back again and again...

I posted this problem in other forums, but alas, no help yet. Here's hoping someone here can assist. Thanks.

Favorites have become inaccessible during the process of Organizing Favorites. My IE Favorites were on OneDrive long before upgrading to Windows 10. I have used IE11 in Windows 10 for 2 weeks. Since using Organize Favorites in one sub-folder the IE Favorites I see in the Favorites menu are no longer what is on OneDrive.

Clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar I see only the one folder I Organized, with one sub-folder, and the sub-folder is empty. Clicking on Organize Favorites, I see all of the Favorites I expect to see, with the one folder I had previously Organized at the top of the list, sorted out of alphabetic sequence. If I look at Favorites on OneDrive they look normal. If I look at this Registry key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders\Favorites
the data in that key points to the OneDrive Favorites folder as expected. The IE11 Favorites Bar is visible and active even though the Favorites menu is hosed.

One more piece of weirdness - clicking on the star icon in the upper right corner (View Favorites, feed and history) results in the correct display of Favorites. So Favorites accessed by the star icon and by Organize Favorites (under Favorites in the Menu Bar) are displayed correctly, but clicking on Favorites in the Menu Bar results in a useless display.

Edit added - I turned IE11 off in Contr... Read more

Select Bookmarks Import Bookmarks and Settings.
Select the program that contains the bookmarks you'd like to import.
Click Import.
Click Done..........but under "select the program" it only lists IE and Firefox, which I do not use, and HTML file. I have the Favorites on another Chrome page (I maintain work and personal gmail accounts), and on my hard drive. How can I access it and import it?

Answer:How do I import Favorites folder into Chrome?

you would need to export the favorites as an HTML file from Chrome before you can import them into another chrome account.

If you use a Chrome (Google) account, you can sync them together by signing in to Chrome with the same account. Then they both can be on both instances of Chrome at the same time.

I am newbie and running Vitsa Basic 32 bit. I hope I am in correct thread and this is my first post.

My questions are does Vista need to have a User name/ documents / favorites folder? And a User name/ favorites folder?
I had a problem importing favorites from my win XP IE 7 via a flash drive,( not a valid bookmark file error ) and after upgrading to IE 8, uninstalling IE 8 and reverting back to IE 7 I got my favorites into the User Name non documents folder.
I deleted the favs folder in documents which showed it as empty. Now I cannot re import my favs again from the flash drive.
I am trying to avoid the whole process of installing IE 8 and reverting to 7 again and I think I did some stupid deleting.

Can I just create a documents /folder name favorites and hope that IE will import form there? If so I tried it and got an error ( incomplete URL ). I am in over my head .

Should I have just been happy that my favorites seemed to work with just the User Name Favorites folder and not messed around?

I really have tried to find the answers to my questions but have found conflicting information all over the place. I am trying to set up a Windows 7 64 bit computer with Outlook 2010. My backups are from a Windows XP machine with Outlook 2007.

In looking around for the best way to transfer my email and browser files, some sites/forums advise using the import function of both Outlook 2010 and IE8. Others say to copy the files from the backup to the new machine.

Based on the advice from one site, I decided not to use Outlook's import function and instead I copied my backed-up .pst files to the Win7 \documents folder into a new folder i created called Outlook Files. Then I set up the account info in Outlook.

Now I have an outlook.pst and an outlook1.pst in the \documents\Outlook files folder AND i have a .pst file called [email protected] in the \nick\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook folder.

When I run outlook, I see in the navigation pane three email locations or folders.I have the inbox and subfolders under "Outlook" and these appear to be the emails i transferred over.
THEN, i have [email protected] which is the same level as the first "outlook" folder. It is here that new mails are being received. However, when it got setup it somehow had about 400 emails in it, the dates of which overlap with the inbox in the first "outlook" folder.
Finally, I have something called Outlook Data, which has nothing in it.
I know this is confusing a... Read more

Answer:import or copy over emails and favorites?

@Karambel

Typically the simplest way and the best way to make sure you get everything is to boot the host machine (Windows XP in your case) in WinPE or a Live Linux CD etc., and copy then entire \Documents and Settings\Nick directory to a USB Flash drive, in a Directory called NICK BACKUP. (assuming the user account name is Nick).

Take the USB Flash Drive to your Windows 7 machine log on as Administrator or an account that has complete admin rights. If you cannot do what you need you can always boot the WinPE or Live Linux CD.

Then you can copy from the Flash Drive \Nick Backup\Favorites to \Users\Nick\Favorites
Next copy from the Flash Drive \Nick Backup\My Documents to \Users\Nick\Documents

Repeat the same pattern with the information you want to have access to on the new machine.

The Outlook data is a bit different. The simplest way to get it is to EXPORT and IMPORT it.

On the Windows XP machine booted and logged in as NICK. Open Outlook and select export make sure you pick the whole tree of emails so you get Inbox, Sent, etc. Export it on the Flash Drive as NICK.pst.

On the Windows 7 machine logged in as NICK. Open Outlook and unload/close any other PST files you have loaded (Outlook1.pst). {Note you need to make sure the Outlook on the Windows 7 is clean, you may have to boot the WinPE or Live Linux CD to delete the Outlook1.pst or any others you created; do that before you do the import. Outlook has a bad habit of doing something you don’t want if you do... Read more

Answer:Can't import favorites from Windows Vista

What method are you using to import faves? It could just be hanging temporarily whilst trying to parse a (large) bookmarks file....

Post back with more info

I've got IE9 installed on a Windows 7 (x86) system and on a Windows Vista (x86) laptop. On both machines the same problem:

I export favorites to a bookmark.htm file, then delete all favorites in IE9.

I then try to import bookmarks from that same file into IE9.

It fails, I get a red cross and message "There was aproblem importing some of your settings".

Tried exporting/importing new bookmark file several times on both machines.
Same error every time. Luckily I was able to import them into FF3 and from there into IE9 via "Import from another browser".

Has anyone experienced this error in IE9? Thanks in advance.

Running Internet Explorer 6, on Windows XP, SP-3.
Trying to import Favorites. IE says not a valid Bookmarks file.
Same file used on other computer with no problem.
Same file used on problem computer for Firefox. No problem.
Same file used on yet another computer, IE-8, Windows 7. No Problem.

Suggestions?

Answer:Internet Explorer will not import Favorites

Try IE7 or IE8. I'm just guessing that maybe there is something in the file that the ancient IE does not know anything about.

On my old XP machine I had a large collection (hundreds) of bookmarks, aka favorites.  I followed the prescribed procedure to import them to Google Chrome on the new Windows 8 machine:
1. Export the "favorites" to an HTML file
2. Transfer that file to the new computer
3. In Chrome, select "bookmarks", then "manage bookmarks", then "import bookmarks from HTML file" and select the file
4. Open the HTML file (options were "Open" and "Open as read-only", I chose the first

The only trouble was, the bookmarks didn't transfer.

I did check the HTML file, it does indeed contain all my old bookmarks.

So what am I doing wrong?  The file is named "bookmark.htm" (rather than *.html) but that is XP's doing, not mine.

The original bookmarks/favorites consist of 1,274 "Internet shortcut" files in 118 folders under C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Favorites .

Do I need to change the extension on the "bookmark" file?

Answer:Can't import IE "favorites" to Chrome bookmarks?

First, are you signed into Google Chrome? This will require the creation of a free GMail account. You don't have to use it for much, maybe to get a free piece of software, to to give out to those whom you know or suspect may spam you. Then try the below instructions. This was how I imported my Firefox bookmarks.

Hope this helps.

Question: IE11 vs. Edge

Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible?

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

I am have a difficult time trying to import all of my Favorites from Windows XP Internet Explorer 8 to Windows 7 Favorites.
I have read many threads in this forum but none seem to provide me with the answer.
I copied all of my Favorites to a disc then copied them to Windows 7 Desktop.
Following all explained procedures still leaves me pulling what hair I have left on my head.
Can this be done easily? If so I need some kind soul to give me a step by step procedure as to how to do this.

Thanks for any help from out there.

Answer:Bulk Import Favorites From Win XP Explorer to Windows 7

Easy, go to the IE in XP and Export your favorites. They end up in a bookmark file. Then go to your Win7 IE and import them from the bookmark file.

Edges has them all so why aren't they in IE any more? And why is there no 'export' in Edge? And why does IE refuse to import ? Gee, do you think maybe they really don't want us to use IE any more?

Answer:IE refuses to import favorites file from any location

After you copy your Favorites from OPTION ONE, doing steps 1-3 in OPTION TWO is what copies them into IE.

Please read and follow the steps in the tutorial. It shows you how step by step.
