Using EDGE in IE11 on build 10041

Question: Using EDGE in IE11 on build 10041

To enable the new engine, just type ?about:flags? in IE11?s address bar, select ?Enabled? under ?Enable Experimental Web Platform Features,? and restart the browser. Enabling the "Custom User Agent" option will trick sites that nerf IE specifically into using the Spartan Edge rendering engine.

Preferred Solution: Using EDGE in IE11 on build 10041

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

What's new: Windows 10 build 10041

The Start Menu is now transparent, which was a heavily requested feature. Microsoft has also fixed issues with the All Apps list, and it?s now easier to use the All Apps button on a touchscreen device. You can also pin apps from the most used list, and even settings from the Settings app (there?s now a pin button under the title bar).

Virtual Desktops now feature usability improvements, so that users can easily drag a window to a virtual desktop, or move it to a new desktop by dragging it to the ?+? button, all in one step.

Cortana expands into new markets on the desktop, including China, the UK, France, Italy, Germany, and Spain. Unofficially, you can test it in other regions by changing your region in the Settings app.

A new network flyout should make life easier for people that are not content with the way it worked in Windows 8. Upon clicking the Network icon, users will be greeted by a small window with quick access to wireless networks and VPN setups.

The Photos app has been updated to support RAW files and a small number of keyboard shortcuts, and will now display OneDrive photos on its live tile.

The new handwriting input canvas is optimized for a better handwriting recognition experience with short text entry, and upon tapping in edit control with a pen, it automatically displays suggestions and word predictions.

The Lockscreen has been updated to feature the new rounded avatar, and depending on your region, ... Read more

First of all, I'm not looking for any help, just going to rant for a moment about my latest experience.

My Build 10041 got hosed, not sure if it was hardware related or software. I applied the update to the build when it became available moving from 9926 to 10041 but there were issues so I did a clean install which seemed to clear up the problems I had.

Two days ago, I noticed that my display settings were not retained. Worked fine up to that point, so I fixed them. Yesterday, booted up, put in my password then I saw "Preparing Windows" and not the word "Welcome" so I knew I was in trouble.

Desktop loaded but it was black. Start menu had gray boxes. Apps that I pinned to the task bar were gone. Network driver was gone. Cortana didn't work. Files I downloaded in the download folder were gone. It prompted me to enter my Credentials, and then I had to get a Verify Code (did that 3 times). Programs I installed previously were there but when you launched them, it was like the first time.

Did a restore but that didn't help.

Did another clean install today so we'll see how long this lasts.

I'm pretty sure this is an isolated case but couldn't get over how bad the Build got, for what ever reason.
I'm done, thanks for listening.
Greg

Hello

For some reason, my search function is no longer available for me in build 10041.

I have used shexview to disable 3rd party apps to interact with explorer.exe as suggested to me in another post.
I have googled this abit, and found that others have been experiencing similar problems but was unable to find a solution, other than a complete reinstall (which I'd prefer not to).

Also, the tool in Solved BSOD - Posting Instructions - Windows 10 Forums does not save anything to my desktop.

Hi there

I've got better luck (Much better) using a CLEAN install -- Make the ISO as per Kari's tutorial then burn to bootable USB via Rufus (V2.0) and install.

Note the ESD file is in a different directory see the threads in the tutorial -- copy the whole kybosh to a folder on an external HDD and create the iso. It takes around 35 - 40 mins (I did mine on a VM) depending on what hardware you have.

I still don't like the menu but at least when you INSTALL applications it doesn't hose up as you can create start menu entries for your applications at install time.

I was using build 9926 as the OS I was starting from to create the ISO. Installing now to a spare Physical machine. - That's why I needed the USB as this machine doesn't have any DVD hardware.

Cheers
jimbo.

Answer:Build 10041 - Much better with CLEAN install via ISO

What tutorial?

I always and ONLY do clean installs, so of course, I need the ISO.

I still have the ISO's for both the 32 bit version and the 64 bit version of W-10-TP-9926.

Since I test both versions on separate PC's, I need both ISO's.

I just updated to 10041 from 9926 using an ISO file. Windows Update would not successfully to the update. Things went smoothly and I am a happy camper right now except for one problem. I made no changes to the display(1920x1080 resolution with medium icons) but the left most, right most, and top row are about 1/4 off the screen and the task bar is below the screen with only about the top 1/4 showing. Oddly enough, the bottom row of icons do not go below the task bar. I think I remember the same thing happening when I upgraded to 9926 but I don't remember how I corrected it. I've tried different icon sizes, adjusted 'make things large/smaller' etc, but no success.

Would someone please tell me how to correct this problem?

Thank you.

Hi there

Reverted back to 9926. TWO mega showstoppers for me.

1) START MENU totally hosed up again -- Brinks mod to get back the old menu from previous builds doesn't work. My installed applications don't appear on it and the search is TOTALLY DYSFUNCTIONAL. ===> NOK.

2) Activation woes -- doesn't like the serial number even when trying to enter via SLUI 3 command -- so Activation message appears every so often. ==>NOK.

While these don't seem mega issues in themselves it renders the whole OS NOT A GOOD EXPERIENCE -- an OS as well as eliminating bugs needs to be USEABLE too. The ghastly start menu DOESN'T WORK AT ALL for me and the less said about the indescribably awful search - the better.
Hopefully Brink will come up with a mod for his tutorial to get the menu to revert back to previous versions.
Until people have got some fixes I'm passing on this build.
(Note I did an UPDATE from 9926 on a VM --- X-64 ENTERPRISE version).
For those who don't want to automatically install specific updates --- such as specific drivers --another bit of bad news (although not a total loss) - the trick to add the Windows update back to the control panel doesn't work in this release either.

Can't logon to my NETFLIX VPN -- keeps re-asking for password and account. VPN working 100% in build 9926.
The menu should look something like this (copied from earlier build to 9926) - shows my installed apps and a decent search. I've removed the metro junk --I'm on a desktop).

After the struggle to find out why I could not update to build 10041 I am finally running it. Thank you so much for the help, that is the only time I have actually received help from a forum. I thought all was good until I started having problems. First I noticed that all my Steam games that use Games for Windows Live will not work, I don't know if this is the right forum for that but it may be part of the overall issues. I tried many things and cant get them to start. The games that I did play had poor performance compared to what I am used to. Example Metro Last Light, Bioshock Infinite, Tomb Raider, settings almost maxed usually plays fine at 50-60fps but it was staying around 20-30. I moved on figuring that I will deal with the games at a later time. I have the system set to fast build for updates, and build 10049 is available but when the computer tries to install it, the system restarts I get "msctfime ui systemsettings.exe application error".

I Googled this and found that others are experiencing the error also. I found one thread that said it was due to the display driver. I tried all the steps to disable the display driver and it made no difference same error build 10049 would not install. I tired to restart in safe mode and found another problem. In safe mode I get an explorer.exe error that shows "hard error" and the system in not usable at all. I also get this Hard error if I do a clean boot by disabling all programs in start up ... As the title says,

After I updated to build 10041 (computer auto updated), everything has this really really tiny amount of zoom on it. Note the top bit of the Chrome window? It doesn't have that little gap . The bottom right corner also (the rectangle you can click to go to desktop) became really small (cut off?). It's not a resolution problem (it's on max as it's been for the past 2 years), and I've tried turning it on and off. Anyone know the fix?

Also, I have a problem where this thing:

Doesn't do the notification light anymore. I can't tell who messaged me/which window had a notification on it. This, I have no idea what happened.

Since I updated to 10041 I can not get to my 8.1 notebook shares. No problem with access to the notebook from my Vista system and 10041 can access Vista and Mybooklive shares as before.

When trying to access the notebook I get a Windows Security window asking me to enter network credentials but when I do I just get the window re-appearing with the error "The user name or password is incorrect". The window also says the domain is my win 10 machine name. Is this normal?

All my shares worked fine with 9926 after I added the credentials to the Credential Manager.

I have re-added the allow insecure auth entry registry fix to no avail. Wasn't needed with 9946. Also blocked incoming on port 139 to no avail.

Can ping the IP address.

In the credentials dialog, give your Windows 8.1 username as Computer_name\Username, for example if the Win 8.1 PC is MyMonsterMachine and user profile is SuperGeek give the username as MyMonsterMachine\SuperGeek. This changes the domain from the Win 10 PC to Win 8.1 PC.

After installing Build 10041, first as upgrade from 9926, then from clean install to reformatted drive from ISO. my Acer E5-511 consistently freezes on the Acer Boot Screen ("Explore beyond limits"!) on every restart. Sometimes I see the beginning of the rotating ball (or whatever its called), but only for 1/2 revolution. Only workaround is to power off the machine and start from power on Button.

Thinking maybe video driver, I rolled this back to Microsoft default - no change - then installed previous Intel driver for Win8 from Acer web site. Likewise, no change.

Has anyone else experienced this? I had no such problems with previous builds.

Answer:Build 10041: Freeze on Restart

Yes!! You describe exactly what I have seen on an old Dell E520. I even thought video dvr as well. Great minds, must, indeed, think alike!!

I tried turning off fast startup (see here Fast Startup - Turn On or Off in Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums) and, so far, the problem seems to have gone away. In fact, I turned off hibernation so that stops fast startup as hiberfil.sys doesn't exist. May be a problem with slower hard drives not being ready in time?

Windows 10 Technical Preview Build 10041 now available
March 18, 2015 by Gabe Aul // PC, Tablet // 0 Comments

Hi everyone,

I?m happy to announce we?re rolling out Build 10041 for PCs to the Fast ring. Like all of the previous preview builds this one comes with a collection of new functionality and bug fixes. The build will only be available through Windows Update for systems already running a previous Windows 10 build. We still intend to release ISOs for builds that go to the Slow ring, but Fast ring builds will be direct downloads only.

We?re working hard to bring you a new build of Windows 10 for phones as well but we need a bit more time for that one, and we still expect to support additional phones when we release it.

We are continuing to learn and evolve the Windows Insider program as we go, and your feedback is helping us to shape the program as well as Windows 10 itself. Over the past couple of weeks we heard feedback from you that some wanted less frequent but more stable builds, while others preferred faster builds even if they had more bugs. Last week, I published a blog post that explained in more detail our approach to flighting new builds to Windows Insiders, and since then we?ve been doing work internally to be able to push builds to the Fast ring more frequently. This might sound easy, but we actually had to change many tools and processes to make it happen. 10041 was built on Friday, and you?re getting it less than 48hrs after the majority of our... I upgraded to Windows 10 build 10041 a couple of days ago and I have regretted it since. I want to go back to Windows 8.1 but all my restore points have been deleted (?) and when I attempt to use the roll back option in Windows boot mode it says that there is an error and it cannot continue.
After trawling the internet for hours looking for a solution i decided the best idea was to reset my laptop, this was only up to 49% after 36 hours. So I manually shut down my laptop which is working but still working but using Windows 10 build 10041!
Can anyone please advise me on what to do? I am at a total loss...

same, its proving impossible for me to get to the modern UI pc settings interface to open update, as explorer is crashing every second, and i managed to kill explorer, but then i am working via launching command line type stuff from task manager, but none of it will open because explore is killed, catch22! i need to force update somehow.

The update errors from the Preview Build Update page with 0x80070241 but others have the same problem.

Tried the ESD to ISO update route but the update fails on the first reboot. I have a bunch windows updates after this failure which I'm not sure are valid either.

I have a image from a couple of days ago so I'm going to restore that and if that doesn't work, I guess I'll have to wait fro an official ISO to be posted.

I have installed Win 10 on VMware 9.0. The original install was build 9926 64bit.
I tried to Auto Update to fbl-impressive 10041 Professional, but kept getting error 0x80240031.

So, I downloaded Windows10_TechnicalPreview_x64_EN-US_10041.ISO and installed it using Virtual Clone Drive.
The update appeared successful as it shows:
Windows 10 Pro Technical Preview Evaluation copy Build 10041 in lower right hand corner of desktop.

However, Auto Update still wants to install fbl-impressive 10041 Professional. It downloads but fails to update.

I don't what is happening here, since I think I have the latest build.

Any ideas?

Okay so I have had the windows 10 preview for a while and I decided to rollback since many of my programs aren't functioning. When going through the blue screen to system restore i clicked troubleshoot and then windows rollback. Now the computer was stuck on a blank screen for while and I turned it off and turned it back on. Now the computer boots up the the HP loading wheel and then to a black screen with the build number in the bottom right. I created a recovery drive on a USB and plugged it in and turned the computer off and on but no luck. I am somewhat of a computer expert and I should have known better than to download windows 10 without really considering the consequences. This is not my.daily deiver but any help would be much appreciated!

So I have an issue and I really don't know what to do. I have asked for help from everywhere and no one seems to have any input. So this is my last attempt before I give up on widows 10 TP until its finally released. I have now installed the preview on my surface 6 times and the start menu works until I start installing apps.
I can not narrow down what apps as once the issue happens, I have no way of reversing it.
I did try and install the mail app and it failed but the icons were still in the start menu but all black with no access to options. I restarted after every app install and I think its these that are causing it. Any ideas how to fix apps that are crashing the start menu that are not even properly installed?
thanks and someone please help.
FYI I ran the powershell fix on all 5 installs and played a lot with the registry. The next wipe will be the end of me as a insider. I am not ranting because I love windows 10 but I am over spending this my time on a tablet.
any ideas on a fix to get the start menu working would be great.
thanks guys and gals

wait for microsoft to provide the update. These are one of those things that are buggy in general in winodws 10. I joined the insider's program since 9926 on my surface pro first gen. If you cant find the solution provide the feedback. That's why there is a feedback app. Write a feedback or add a me too to one that comes close to your critique. Don't stress about it. It's a technical preview, not a consumer preview (like windows 8 back in the day) or RTM.

Hi there

3 Linux servers with different distros seem to be unable to read the C drive directory properly on a new Windows 10041 (Real) machine.

Seems to be NO problem in accessing the other shared drives on the computer. This problem only seems to be when SAMBA wants to access the computer (Windows to Windows works OK even a windows 10 VM on the Linux HOST to a real W10 machine).

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:Build 10041 Samba doesn't show C drive properly !!!!

It could be a SAMBA issue.

The Linux Mint 17.1 install on my laptop does something similar.
I have 12 shared folders (NTFS) on my Windows 7 desktop.

The only shared folder the laptop can see is the one with "read and write" set on it.
The other 11 "read only" folders do not appear in the file browser.

My friend's Arch Linux system can see and access all the folders (with the correct restrictions).

Luckily I can use the W7 install on the laptop to transfer files to my W7 install on my desktop (or vice versa).

I have no idea what is happening and I can't even come up with a plausible hypothesis.

Hello

I run Windows 10 on my main, which I mainly use for gaming (I know, preview build = crashes so no gaming right now). Therefor most of my drivers and software are non compatible with windows 10 (again, i know). I just updated to the 10041 build, and for inital boot, there is no issues, but some time after log-in (I am able to use the computer for up to 5 minutes) it freezes up, and I have to force-reboot (I've tried leaving it for an hour, still frozen). I know that it's not programs that's still starting up, since the C drive is two SSD's in RAID 0 (please don't bug me about this. I'm fully aware of the risks for RAID 0 and I do also know that it's only a minor performance boost as opposed to just a single SSDs but I got it, deal with it - I got all Documents, Videos, Pictures, and other important files running on 2 WD Red in Raid 1)

I tried to boot into safemode, how-ever it appears that explorer had some issues running in that - which is why I'm very worried. I'm not very used to these kind of situations, so I don't know which of the logs to post, or where to find them.

I would really appreciate help.

Thanks

Getting a SSD soon to install Windows 8.1.1, so I figured I'd try this out on bare metal before I replace the drive as my main. I tried an earlier build in a VM and thought it was alright, but I can't really test it in a thorough way through a VM. I've been using it for several hours.

So far it seems smooth. No major problems so far. I've restarted it twice and no hiccups. Start menu works okay, but it's still a bit weird with all the apps in the All Apps section. I don't use the apps much at all. The only one I could say I use regularly in 8 would be the sports app. The "Metro" search seems broken, though. I tried searching for, "defrag", so the Defrag and Optimize Drives option would pop up. It did pop up, but wouldn't work when I clicked on it a few times. I tried searching for it in the search bar by the start menu and it worked like a charm.

I use IE11 as my main browser in 8.1. IE has a stigma attached to it, but I find that it's the fastest browser and it works just fine for my needs. It works great in 10 too. Only had one problem with it. It crashed as I was in the middle of typing this out. Happened only once so far, luckily.

I downloaded and installed the latest Nvidia drivers. It went without a hitch. The Nvidia control panel works fine, even after restarting, but when I first tried it, it took forever to pop up. Hi there

To FORCE a clean install if you are using the ISO (or USB created from the ISO).

1) download something like GPARTED.

2) delete existing C partition

3) now boot the ISO / USB stick.
If you don't delete the partition Windows just goes into that Install method showing the Circle and does an update --you don't get presented with an option.
It works MUCH better with a CLEAN install.
Note --VM users on VMWARE -- -workstation 11 has a couple of problems with taskbar and system icons - also UNITY mode goes into a loop until you exit unity mode. Revert back to workstation 10 (or VMPLAYER rel 6) to fix.

AUDIO (on REAL machine - not VM) -- : Hoses up after ist re-boot -- to fix go into device manager -- click against properties in the Audio driver and simply choose ROLL BACK driver. I had the VIA audio driver installed by Windows which hosed up audio (set headphones as default -- also no APP would play sound - although Windows sounds were fine. After ROLL BACK to the Ms HD audio - working properly.
As always BACKUP any existing system you might want before wiping your "C" partition.

Cheers
jimbo

edge seems massively dumbed down, very bare options configuration compared to IE11.

From what I can see all of the following are missing.

No options to toggle tls 1.1 1.0 1.2 etc.
No options to toggle gpu acceleration
No options to set file cache location (I like to use ram disk)
No security zones
No tracking protection lists
No addons
No advanced cookie settings
No per domain settings
No options to adjust certificate verification
No options to adjust UTF-8 and IDN
No toggle for crash protection
No tab options

Basically edge feels like a mobile orientated app, as it uses the "modern" interface.

Is there a reason to use edge instead of IE11? aside from future proofing as I am assuming IE11 at some point will be obsoleted by Microsoft.

Answer:is it me or is ie11 better than edge?

Edge is still very early in it's development cycle.. give it time and it will get much better.

Oh and I'm using it right now to post here and I like it.. very fast and clean.

Question: IE11 vs. Edge

Does anyone know of a good source that explains the difference between IE11 and Edge? Pretty much all I've gathered is that Edge isn't as compatible with as many web-sites as IE11. Why the introduction of a new browser? Why isn't it more compatible?

Answer:IE11 vs. Edge

Browser Microsoft Edge and Internet Explorer 11 (Windows 10)

IE has become a failure and MS is trying to start over with a new browser, Edge. This is a ground up design of a new browser and it's looking good right now for a browser that's only about a year old. I've been using it for some time and it's been a good experience for me at least.

I am having problems on my laptop using things like Cortana across user accounts. The wheel spins and spins when I click on Cortana. I think the problem stems from the fact edge and IE11 cannot load outlook.com or go into things like account settings. It's only this causing the issue, all other sites work apart from these critical MS sites. I've tried changing DNS settings to alternates like google but nothing works to fix this. Hi Folks
Be extra careful currently as there is STILL a problem in security with IE11 and Edge which can allow "unscrupulous" users to hijack your browser / do other nasty things - and currently NO A/V software can protect against this.

BE VERY CAREFUL if using IE11 / EDGE until Ms applies the patch. DO NOT RELY SOLEY ON YOUR A/V SOFTWARE - this won't protect you in this case. People are often lulled into a false sense of security after installing some extra A/V software -- this actually makes them MORE likely to fall into traps than people who only have the base WD stuff installed but browse carefully. !!!

Here's the article - from BBC (and Google) so it's not from some dubious journalist writing for a magazine hoping to make a few bucks.

Bad bug found in Microsoft browsing code - BBC News

I posted this note also in the Browsers section as some people don't read this part of the Forum.

Has anyone figured a way to turn this crap off?

Yes, I know that Edge is Microsoft's "preferred" browser. No, I'm not interested. I need IE for work purposes because of legacy ActiveX components, so that annoying icon does no good.

I'm trying to get the new build ready for work on our domain, but considering all our employees heavily use IE every day, this is going to get on everybody's nerves and fast!

I tried copying the iexplore.exe from Anniversary Update (1607) to 1703 VM, and got an error about a missing ordinal in the EXE. So I'm thinking they added it that way - not seeing any settings, GPOs, or any other way to turn it off.

Even better when you're logged in as the local Administrator account which cannot run Edge or any other Modern apps but the stupid icon still shows up and is completely useless

Windows 10, HP 6520 Printer
I use IE 11 for most of my work and when I access Print I have the print options as designated by my printer – one of them being to print in Booklet form.
If I use Edge, the print options do not include the ability to print in Booklet form.
How can I obtain the Full print options offered by my printer when using Edge?

We want to have a pdf file download on our website for IE11. PDF's seems to act differently on the various operating systems in the various browsers. Also how it is made has an effect: Microsoft 2010 vs Adobe DC on a Windows 7 OS. (we are also trying W10
os & MSWord10 to pdf) Most of our users are in IE. where how it is made makes no difference on a W10 machine. It just puts up blank pages for a long time. Any suggestions?

Microsoft 2010 doc W7 OS used to create a pdf loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, fast in Chrome and Firefox
Note - this is with Acrobat DC Reader installed - the Word version worked before the update
In Design to Adobe DC created pdf W7OS  loaded to a W2008 server:

Windows 7- takes many minutes in IE11 (seems to hang midway), fast in Chrome, fast in FirefoxWindows 8 - downloaded quickly in IE11, Chrome, FirefoxWindows 10 - blank page loaded with no text for many minutes in Edge, many minutes in Chrome, fast in Firefox

Hi all,
Requesting your votes to get the WebRTC in IE11/Edge:https://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...port-of-webrtcWebRTC - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
All of Skypes biggest competitors are moving towards plugin-free browser calling features, and Redmond is finally admitting it has no choice but to do the same. In Microsofts own words: Its all about convenience imagine youll be able to simply open IE and make a Skype call to friends, family, or get real-time support for that new device right from your browser.
Both Google and Mozilla are way ahead of Microsoft in this area, both in terms of adding WebRTC features to their respective browsers and in terms of building plugin-free calling services that rely on the technology. In short, Skype is under threat, and Microsoft has finally decided to opt for an If you cant beat em, join em strategy.http://venturebeat.com/2014/10/27/mi...rnet-explorer/

Folks,

Before I wiped my Windows 7 install, I exported my IE11 favorites into an HTM file, "bookmark", by using IE11's "export" feature.

My clean Windows 10 install only has 2 browsers: Edge and Chrome. I do not want to install IE11.

How do I get the saved favorites/bookmarks to be imported into Edge? There is no browse function. Edge only allows an automatic import, and that seems to require a functioning IE11 install.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi there

While Silverlight is as everybody knows RUBBISH it IS a requirement for watching SKY GO on Windows. Sky GO on Android doesn't use it so It must be possible for Ms to have some other method of protecting DRM material.

So (and SKY GO is used by loads of SKY customers --particularly for Sport and Movies) as EDGE which (intentionally) doesn't support Silverlight people will have to keep IE11 for the foreseeable future - unless one wants to use CHROME - which I don't really like --YMMV on this one of course.

If Ms wants people to switch as quick as possible to EDGE they need to get current applications to work with it.

At least though SKY GO works on W10 !!.

(For those who don't know what SKY GO is - it's the service from the U.K Satellite Broadcaster SKY that people can use to stream programs on to their tablets, computers and phones - quite a good service BTW if you have SKY TV.

Good on some Rail services too in UK where trains have fast Wi-Fi available !!!

Cheers

I have posted this question/complaint on another thread, but I have been locked out. So I'll try again. Why can't Microsoft fix the Edge import process to reliably import all favorites from IE 11? I have tried all the workarounds including copying the IE 11 favorites to the <username>/appdata/local...directory and the editing the Registry. Nothing works. Why should it be so difficult for MS to implement a reliable Favorites transfer? What is the point of using Edge, when IE 11 is more friendly?

Any thoughts/suggestions? I have been using Windows 10 for over a year and the problem persists.

Answer:Problems Importing Favorites into Edge from IE11

Well, you didn't really tell us what problems you were having with performing the import.

So, let's skip the diagnosis and jump right to an alternative approach...

You might consider using a 3rd-party application called EdgeManage to see if you have better luck with performing an import operation from Internet Explorer.

my windows 10 has the Blue E that states 'Microsoft Edge' when mouse hovers over the taskbar avatar .. but My MSN videos play videos back in black screen( no video) and sound is OK .. BUT every where I look for a fix remedy says to fix this within IE11 settings where is IE11?

"When upgrading from an earlier version of Windows to Windows 10, Microsoft Edge will automatically become your default browser. Microsoft Edge is a new internet browser introduced with Windows 10 ."

in the mean time have made my default browser google chrome and have no problem with MSN videos ...

Answer:Running windows 10 AEd . confused over IE11 and EDGE

Windows 10 comes with both IE11 and Edge built in. Edge is Microsoft's recommended browser and the one where all future development will concentrate. But the business world would throw up their hand in horror if IE was removed - many bespoke company Intranet applications will only work with IE because only IE can run Microsoft ActiveX controls. Indeed Microsoft's own Update Catalog website will only work with IE for the same reason.

You have IE if you really need it but MS don't really want you to use it, so it's hidden away on an infrequently visited part of the All Apps list. It's to be found under 'Windows Accessories'. The only other place you can find it is (ironically) in Edge. Open any webpage, click on the 'three dots' icon at the top right and one of the items in the menu that appears is 'Open with Internet Explorer'. However you get to it, once running you can pin it to the taskbar.

But finding IE isn't necessarily going to help you fix Edge's video problems, the settings you need to change may be in Edge, not IE. It's not clear what you mean by 10 A.Ed. Can you type Winver in the search box next to Start and run it. To be of more help we need to know the full set of numbers shown there for the version and OS build.

What I can tell you is that for my version 1607 (OS Build 14393.187) Edge has no such problems showing videos from MSN.

Just built a new box with an ASUS X99m ws board and Intel 5930 processor, booting from a Samsung 950 Pro with 4 WD blacks configured in a RAID 10 storage and backup.
I've read and tried every googled fix and trick for getting MS Edge to load pages to no avail. Even went so far as to try the admin only delete and reinstall of MS Edge. No luck. Anybody know of anything else that doesn't show up in a standard search?
What's interesting is Edge works fine on an old DELL XPS 720 from 2006 that was upgraded a week ago. No luck on the hot, new one.

Microsoft has announced that (the embedded) Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10 was finally updated to 20.0.0.272

https://technet.microsoft.com/library/security/2755801
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3133431

Remark:   Based on the change in wording in the above document... as well as "confirmed" on my Win8.1 tablet... there has NOT (yet?) been a corresponding update for Win8.x

Answer:Updates 1/5/16 - Flash for IE11/ActiveX & Edge on Win10

So to summarize the Flash confusion at present:
the current Flash plug-in version (non-IE browsers) is 20.0.0.267
The current IE/ActiveX version for Win 7 and earlier is 20.0.0.270
The temporary [?] version for IE10/11 on Windows 8.x is also 20.0.0.267 ; an update was expected, but has not been released as of this writing (6 January 2016, 12:40pm EST).
The current IE11/ActiveX and Edge version for Win 10 is [allegedly] 20.0.0.272

Hi there

What a DOGS DINNER of a mess -- SKY GO is still using Silverlight for DRM - however it's deprecated in Windows so sooner or later IE11 won't work with it. Edge of course doesn't work with it, and the non Ms browsers seem randomly to work or not work.

This is NOT an Ms problem though -- surely SKY could use similar DRM / Copyright protection to NETFLIX etc - since the ANDROID application works without any problem whatsoever they must be using something other than Silverlight.

I only suspect that SKY would rather get people to sign up to their SKY Q service -- it's fine but not very portable if you want to watch on a laptop instead of on a small tablet or smart phone.

If Ms would RETIRE Silverlight completely then SKY would be forced to fix SKY GO for their customers !!!!

I suppose the words Customer and Service should probably be removed from the English Language or relegated tp a History archive as it seems with pretty well ANY service one subscribes to there is just about ZERO customer service available any more.

Cheers
jimbo

Answer:SKY GO - edge, IE11 and silverlight What a dogs dinner of a mess

Silverlight is expected to have a long life-cycle:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/...arch/?c2=12905

compatibility issues are always on the agenda, given that rs3 builds are going deeper into underlying code
I suspect we may see improvements further down the line, at present I am getting hints that Edge is not fully compatible yet..

- no doubt, there will be more on this subject in the coming months..

Hello,

I am unable to access Sign in to your Microsoft account on my desktop computer running Windows 10 on a home Ethernet network using Edge and IE11. I am connected to the Internet through a Fritz!Box 7490 DSL connection.

I originally tried to solve this problem as a network issue - and it may still turn out to be one - but since I am able to log in to my live.com account using Google Chrome on this computer and from Linux and OS X machines on the network, I am now looking at the possibility that it is some setting shared by Edge and IE11 that is causing my problem.

A secondary effect of this problem is that I am unable to activate Office 365 products, because once I enter my account email address, the activation process wants to take me to live.com to confirm my subscription.

I have seen a number of posts on this and other sites about the "Hmm..." messages, and that's the message I am shown when I try to access login.live.com. Since, in all of the other posts, the issue was a complete inability of Edge to access the sites, this seems to me to be something different. Thus, I started a new thread rather than add to one of the others.

I will be grateful for any and all suggestions on how to fix this problem.

Cheers,
hussar

Yesterday I was forced to reboot my computer as MS installed some Windows Updates. After the reboot I can no longer access google.com's main page and some other https site like my companies Citrix Storefront login page. These all worked before the forced update. There were 2 updates installed KB3142588 and KB3140768. I uninstalled the KB3142588 and rebooted and everything worked again. Later in the day again MS installed something and forced me to reboot. After the reboot, the same problem came back. Funny thing now, is that those 2 updates are no longer there and were replaced by others. One of them I could uninstall and the other I cannot. I uninstalled the one (didn't write done the KB#) and rebooted and still the same problem. It only really seems to be issues with some https sites. I can't believe that there is a problem with googles certificate.

I get a "There is a problem with this website's security certificate". The security certificate presented by this website is not secure. Security certificate problems may indicate an attempt to fool you or intercept and data you send to the server.

I cannot just accept the cert nor can I look at it like I could in Windows 7.

I would like to replace working certificate for the localhost (127.0.0.1), with an end date in a few months. (Win10 - Edge - IE11)
I managed to create a certificate (made a copy form the previous one with Powershell), and imported it in the list of Trusted Root Certificates. I removed the previous certificate.

But Edge (and IE11 since I suppose Edge has no support for this yet) is still pointing to the old certificate.
Does anyone know how to make the browsers point to the new certificate?
