SteamOS - Available for download, 13th Friday

Question: SteamOS - Available for download, 13th Friday

It recommends that only "intrepid Linux hackers" download Steam OS for the time being, until it's more polished next year, but we're sure that won't stop PC gamers with itchy feet from jumping in as soon as possible.

Valve also announced that it will be shipping Steam Machines and controllers to 300 lucky beta participants on the 13th too, but only to US gamers.Click to expand...

Preferred Solution: SteamOS - Available for download, 13th Friday

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: SteamOS - Available for download, 13th Friday

Hopefully this will usurp Microsoft's hold on PC gaming, especially since SteamOS will be free.

So I must be coming across as total idot but let me point out I have built a fair few computers in my time, and although not professional I do generally know I am doing so the I can only think it is because it is Friday the 13th I have had the following problems, please bear with me there is a point.

1) I install memory of 1gb. Despite it being compatible it fails and the computer wont post. i replace the memory all works except:
2) I Install a psu when its linked up to the DVD or HDD caddy the computer wont start
3) I install a new PSU - the system boots up for about 10 secs until I realise the cpu fan is not turning.
4) Not to worry becuase the HDD caddy has burst into flames, oh and the HDD has been totally fried.

now I am pretty sure I have tracked the problem back to the caddy, and the rest of the stuff should work okay, but I am at the point when I have to throw another block of money at the system to buy a new HDD. Is it really worth buying a new HDD just to find on install that the cpu was fried when the fan didnt work, etc etc. I can post to the monitor yippie, theres no smoke anymore, the cpu is recorded as a 3.2 and the memory is 1/2 a gb of DDR2. But I am not sure what the chances are of my rig having survived all its tribulations

What do you think chance it or bin it?

Current [pre fire] spec:
MSI PM8PM-V SKT775 AGP 6channel audio DDR2 mATX
Intel Celeron D 352 (3.20GHz) Socket 775 FSB533 512kb Processor
Crucial 1GB DDR2 533MHz / PC2- 4200... Read more

Answer:Should I just bin this build. ARGH Friday 13th. Really need help

If it will post, you're part of the way there.... didn't we discuss the chance of some faulty wiring in the caddy or DVD a few days ago??? Hmmmm.... If I remember, you said the caddy OK Anyway, chances are all your parts are OK. Celeron CPU's don't reach critical temps too quickly, so if you at least had the heat sink on it and you powered down in under 7-10 seconds, it should be OK. The only way to know for sure is to hook up a HD (hopefully an older used one, just in case) and install your OS and software, and see how the thing runs..... good luck my friend

Oh, today is Thursday, the 5th of July.... you're still a week away from the 13th, right????

Hi all,Have used the Google Toolbar with IE 6.0 for ages now and think its great. After a while of browsing today, I noticed that it had added some hearts to the background of the search box, and that the 1st O of the Google logo + the 'Search Web' icon on the toolbar had changed to hearts also. However, whenever I now double click the IE icon to launch the browser and connect to the internet, it doesn't launch the connect dialog box, says that it cannot connect, and askes me to click the 'try again' or 'work offline' button, none of which connect me to the internet. I have to manually connect by going to Start>Connect To>Freeserve Anytime. It's OK I suppose, but it's a pain. I've checked in Internet Options and Freeserve Anytime is listed as default and 'Automatically dial my default connection' is selected. I havent changed anything or added any new hardware or software, so it must be the Google toolbar. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, but it just changes itself to the valentines version almost instantly. How can I solve this? Thanks,Andrew P :o)

It's 3/13/2009 and I'm returning from a sevice call where the most
awful thing occurred. Computer was running slow. It had AVG v8
and Lavasoft AdAware and I ran a quick scan with SuperAntiSpyware
which came up clean. I uninstalled RegCure and Security Advisor.
I deleted Temp files and Temp Internet Files.

Upon rebooting the PC, and coming up to the Windows XP desktop,
a dos style cmd window popped up which indicated that hundreds
of files were being deleted.

Upon further investigation, I discovered that all the Favorites from
IE were gone and only the empty folders remained. Outlook
Express Email was wiped clean, all the video and picture files were
also deleted.
I'm currently trying to recover all the lost files using PhotoRec with
the hard drive slaved to another clean computer.

Question is, what caused this to happen?
Is this a Friday the 13th type virus or was it caused by RegCure or
Security Advisor?

i've been cleaning computers for many years and never saw
anything like this before that targets all your most critical data
and deletes it. Wow!!

Any ideas?

Hello.

Personally, I avoid reg cleaners. Some members of TGF agree with me; some TGF members agree with you. Some of us like apple pie. Some of us do not. I am not trying to trivialize decisions about reg cleaners.
No antimalware program will catch each piece of malware. SAS is good. If SAS updates their definitions and the computer encounters a new malware that hit the streets at 1201, poof, the PC is infected.

Keep us posted.

Good day,

I have an Hp desktop running Windows 7 sp1 Home edition..   started auto update on the 13th,  when i got home later that day it was stuck at 33 percent or so.  left overnight 10 hrs.   no progress.  Shutdown and restarted not a great option but, unit would not do anything else..   Now it tries to install for an hour then does a roll back to previous. It will finish that after 1-2 hours. Then go into shut down.. will never shut down left it for 24 hours no result.. restarts and will be in the loop.  Safe mode same results.   If I can avoid rebuilding it would be great but.

Thanks

If your notebook came with Windows OS it locks out installing other OS.  I would remove the Windows OS (if you are not going to dual boot it) then clear the BIOS (chose default setings, save and then reboot) and see if you can install the Linux OS.

If it still refuses to boot you can try re-flashing the BIOS to remove any Windows security keys from the UEFI storage - then it should allow you to install another OS.

Good luck.

Read the title,

Is there any way I can do this?

I prefer Ubuntu 14.04 to Windows anything other than XP.

I have a Dual Boot setup with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 14.04 and I would rather use my Ubuntu boot to play games, but most new games aren't compatible immediately with Wine.

Is there any way I can ignore games on Steam that I am able to/have installed on Ubuntu?

Regards in advance.

Answer:I want Steam to ignore Linux/SteamOS games.

You can sort them into categories, but I don't think you can sort them from OS playability, the problem with this method is that you have to go to the store page to find out if it works on Linux or not

After applying latest updates I noticed that all Office 2013 programs (Excel, Word, etc) take a long time to open. Does anyone else noticed this?
UPDATE: Restarted the PC and now the lag is gone, no idea what caused this.

Answer:Problem with October 13th Updates

I have another problem. After applying the latest updates and restarting, I get a blinking or flashing "administrator" icon bottom left in the taskbar. Starting the internet explorer or file explorer from the link in the taskbar is not possible anymore. Right click in the taskbar also produces no reaction.
I recovered to a restore point before the update, and all is fine. Did the update again, and the same problem happened.
Anyone can help me? Please, please!
(note: I also described this in the Windows 8 News subforum, but so far, no reply to my help call).

The last Spybot u/d was 13th September. There have been a number of Ad-Aware updates since this date. Is it just one of those things, or should users be worried. As you know (probably) there was a time when Ad-Aware updates stopped whilst they were developing Version 6.

Answer:Last Spybot u/d 13th September. Should we worry ?

Gandalph are you there?Someone has to detect new "threats" to make sure they are real and no diubt do a few tests to make sure all is ok.Then they release a new update! On the other hand maybe there is nothing new out there so no update needed.

I'm trying to save a batch of HTM files I created using Dreamweaver to a CD ROM for a Uni presentation next week. Originally, I was able to save them OK but then I found that I had to reroute the SRC links for the images on the versions of the files that I had copied to the CD.

After I'd redone this stuff, I tried to resave the CD files only to be told 'You do not have permission to save in this directory. See the administrator to obtain permission. Do you want to save to My Documents instead?'

Saving to My Documents just sends me back to square one concerning the srcs.
The administrator of my home network says that she hasn't been given any permission codes for this sort of thing.

Do you have any ideas how to solve this problem?

Bagle the 13th spread defies belief
By John Leyden
Posted: 15/03/2004 at 16:29 GMT

To nobody's great surprise, another Windows-infecting mass mailing worm began spreading over the Net last weekend.

Bagle-N is spreading rapidly and most anti-virus firms rate it as medium to high-level risk. Email filtering outfit MessageLabs has intercepted 11,105 copies of the worm since Saturday.

The worm normally spreads by email but it also capable of propagation across P2P file sharing networks. Bagle-N arrives in either a password-protected zip or rar file, and the password is either included in the body of the email, or in an image file attached to the email.

Apart from the image-file ploy (a minor 'innovation' in virus writing), Bagle is little different from its 13 predecessors - not least in the fact that it infects Windows PCs only.

Bagle-N commonly comes in email messages with variable subject and attachment names. The ‘from’ field of the email is spoofed so that it appears to come from a potential victim's sysadmin. Message bodies warn that the user's email account "might be disabled" or suffer some other odious consequence if a user fails to open an attachment.

If you open the worm's infectious archive file you may infect your PC. The worm disables many security software packages and includes a backdoor component which listens on TCP port 2556. Bagle-N scours the hard drives of infected computers for email addresses. It then se... Read more

Through our sources close to Microsoft, we can now confirm that the Windows 7 RTM build that will be chosen over the next few days will be officially announced on July 13th, 2009, the same day as the WPC09 (Worldwide Partner Conference) will take place in New Orleans.
As I just mentioned, Microsoft is still in the process of testing and choosing from the RTM candidate builds as they need to ensure that all show-stopper bugs present in the OS have been eradicated to ensure as much of a smooth, bug-free release as possible. TechNet, MSDN, and other partner connections will be getting their hands on the RTM build shortly after, if not on the same day.
Ever since many got to experience Windows 7 with many of it?s new features and performance improvements particularly with 6801 and Rafael?s Blue Badge tool, most fell in love with the OS. Stay tuned for our in-depth Inside Windows 7 series, which will highlight and discuss many of 7?s improvements over Vista, along with our RTM build review complete with benchmarks once the build surfaces on TechNet.

Answer:GTX 580 or GTX 590 this Friday

590 is a big outlay, with new AMD cards around the corner I'd be tempted to wait for prices to adjust after their release. If you are upgrading for BF3 then I'd say the 580 should be fine. Need to check my BF3 beta settings but my 2 x 5850 seem to be running everything very nicely and they are often on par with the performance of the 580 GTX.

I am running XP/SP2.
On Friday when I logged on to my ADSL broadband all was fine, then after about an hour the connection dropped out. I could reconnect, but all day it intermittently dropped out at all different time spans. I rang my ISP - they spent over two hours troubleshooting with me on the phone doing what I was advised to do. They came up with the fact that they had upgraded their line service to there customers and for me to take advantage of those upgrades I would need to upgrade the DRIVERS on my D-Link 200 ADSL MODEM. They sent me the upgraded Drivers via my email, but with their guidance and after uninstalling the existing drivers from 'Add and Remove' the new drivers would not install.

I was then told to ring D-Link and tell them of my problem and ask for help to install the upgraded drivers using the software sent to my by my ISP. The technician at my ISP then guided me to reinstall my original drivers so at least I could get onto the internet until I could get help from D-Link. As it was late in the day, I decided to do this on Saturday morning/yesterday. So I booted up yesterday, was able to connect to the internet, and for 15 hours until I logged off I did not loose connection to the net. Not a thing went wrong. So of course I did not ring D-Link, there was no reason for the call. My question is - Why did this happen? Also this morning/Sunday not a problem. If someone could offer an explanation for this mystery I would be most grateful.

Ok, well in attempt to cure my boredom I thought I'd post a thread asking what you IT/computer people did on Friday at work (provided you worked); if not post the last day.

I occasionally do work for a small electronics rep firm, they sell Intel, LSI Logic, Zilog, IR, Legacy Electronics, Aromat, Bourns, NKK Switches, are only a small sampling. My dad works in the same office as the company does so I went in with him.

They had just ordered brand new Dell Latitude D500 laptop's, and since the use the craptastic Lotus Notes, it takes awhile to set it up, in addition to some other stuff to install and configure. I got there at 7:30, and talked to the guy who's in charge - he's an electronical engineer and he is in charge of the companies computers. He told me about what he wanted to do, and such and told me to start moving the computers over to an empty office room. So, I started moving the laptop boxes over to the conference room and then he had some instructions ready for me telling me what to do "map these drives, install this software, etc, etc" - and so I did that. I pulled one out of the box, started setting it up - when it got to the point of where it was doing something, I pulled out another laptop and started to configure that one. At one point I had 5 laptops being setup. I ran into a few problems here and there, but I managed to get 2 all setup with Notes; 2 had problems and one I did as much as I could (had different settings - going to... Read more

Answer:What did you do Friday at work?

Sounds like a fun day.

For me it was the normal get to work an hour early, work through lunch, go home at my normal time just to try and keep afloat.

Worked on a continuing issue we have had with Win2k SP4 systems having a very slow time (30+ seconds) access win2k servers if they have the Novell client installed. I finally got that fixed.

Worked on some login drive mapping issues we have been having for a Citrix application.

Did a series of administratives things on user accounts.

Checked up on people's surfing using our monitoring software...Big Brother IS watching.

Worked on getting a CAD program to print to this crap-tastic Toshiba digital copier/scanner/printer.

Built a WinXP pro system for a co-worker.

Did other standard network admin stuff like working on the backup tape rotation, etc.

Worked on trying to organize one of our division office moves which more and more is looking like a total clusterfuck.

I'm going to finally call in my Windows 7 order this Friday. I finally have some time off!

I'm going to use my student discount for the 29.99.

I currently have windows xp pro. I also just purchased 4GB of ram to add to my Q6600 rig in my sig.
I'm going to try and get a full install, but is the upgrade decent enough? If I can't get a full install disc I'm going to try and complain for Win 7 pro. Other than that, ready to go.
Just asking if there's anything you can tell me/need to know.
Thanks!

Answer:Win7 Friday. Anything I need to know?

I would recommend a clean install if possible. Update your BIOS, make sure you have the latest drivers on hand and you should be good to go.

Microsoft will release Vista RC 2 this friday. However, "RC2" Microsoft has stated is not a milestone build, but rather an interim build. Even so, it will be out soon.

Link-age:
http://www.windowsitpro.com/Articles/Index.cfm?ArticleID=93715

What sucks is that I just bought a 250GB HD and installed 5728 on it last night. Do'h! Now I will have to do it again soon.

I apologize for the influx of Vista articles, but as an upcoming OS from a major corporation it is pretty exciting news. =)

Answer:Vista RC 2 On Friday

I installed 5728 after a format and was suprised at how quickly it finished. Beta2 took 1+ hours to install on the same system... RC1 about 45minutes... 5728 from boot on DVD to format to loaded and at usable desktop was 30minutes.

I'm sure it's obvious, but my brain is wrapped around some other issues right now.

I have a remote site where they are trying to add another computer in an office with a single lan port. They threw in a TL-SF1005D switch, and now both machines will log into the domain, but prompt for domain credentials again whenever any network resource is requested. Remove the switch, reboot and all is normal.

The network layout is desktop -> 10/100SW -> 1G Switch -> 10/100SW -> Cisco VOIP router -> 10/100SW -> GW -> Server.

Yes, I know... I'm working on getting most of that extra crap consolidated, but I have other fires burning.

Answer:Friday stupidhead networking.

Check the network adapter and make sure it's still the same type of network, ie "work, home, domain, or public". It might be switching the type and causing the issue.

Hey all,

I'm in the market for a 17" LCD, and have a couple quick questions. First, I will be using it for design, and not gaming.

Is refresh rate as important if I'm not gaming, and not planning on watching much video/tv? There are a lot of good deals on 25ms screens, but all the talk is 12-15 ms. Any thoughts there?

Second, interface. almost any monitor on sale this weekend is analog. I know digital is a ton better, but again, will it make a big difference in apps other than gaming?

Basically, right now I have a nice 19" NEC flat CRT, and I want to add a 2nd monitor. I'm deciding whether to ditch the CRT and get 2 17" "good" LCDs ($500-ish total), or keep it and get a "great" 17" LCD ($450ish) and then get another down the road when they price drop again.

OK, sorry to ramble. Any thoughts would be great!

Thanks, Richard

Answer:Black Friday - LCD choice?

I would say go for the one that is the best value.

You can tell by:

Refresh rates, although this wont make that big a difference if you arent gaming.
Analog vs. Digital, from my knowledge it's all just one is more expensive than the other.

Most honestly if I were you, I would get a second NEC 19'' because they have the best image quality compared to LCD's.

Answer:Friday only - ADSL DROPOUTS

Maybe all it needed was a new IP lease. With dynamic IP, sometime two customer can have the same address, one of them would get disconnected while the other is on.

Black Friday?s coming, and that means huge rebates and sales. Actually, the hype has already started and the sales have begun. If you have ever tried shopping offline on that day, you probably vowed not to do it again. Ever. No matter what. Offline shopping on Black Friday and Cyber Monday hurts ? sometimes literally.

Why shiver on the street waiting for a store to open when you can shop while lying on your couch, right? Online shopping is really convenient, and you won?t get crushed by a crowd of manic shopaholics.

That?s true, but online shopping has its own dangers, and Black Friday and Cyber Monday followed by Christmas sales are the high season for cybercriminals. As you are trying to get a shiny new TV or a pair of jeans for the price of a pair of socks, bad guys are trying just as zealously to steal your money. For example, as our statistics show, the number of phishing pages that target financial data spikes by about one-third (about 9 percentage points) every Q4, which is really a lot.

How do you stay safe and still have some fun shopping on Black Friday? We have advice for you, but first let us describe the most common types of scams that might await you during this season of sales.

Beware of fake shops
The fact about online shopping that amuses me the most is that you basically exchange your money for a promise to deliver something to you. Really, during that 1?7 day period, your money is already gone and all you have is an e-mail saying that your p... Read more

I am STEAMED about this purchase. I bought this laptop with full intentions of wiping the drive and installing XP - HOWEVER, it seems that HP and other manufactures decided to not develop drivers for the hardware in this product or I just cannot simply find them. I've narrowed it down to 3 drivers that I need - 1. VIDEO 2. AUDIO 3. WIRELESS NETWORK

I have tried many many different driver packs with absolutely no luck. Every video pack I have tried says it is not compatable with XP and the other drivers are just not right either.

Did anyone happen to purchase this and get it to work properly or know of a way to get these drivers to work properly? 1000 thanks for any replies.

A2 = 03/21/2016
B2 = 04/05/2016

There are 15 days in the pay cycle.

I need to add 5 days to the end date to get the payroll date. But if that date falls on Saturday or Sunday, I need to get Friday's date.

I'm doing the formula in C2, though it doesn't matter.

Examples:

A2 = 03/21/2016
B2 = 04/05/2016
C2 = 04/08/2016 (because the 10th is Sunday)

A2 = 04/21/2016
B2 = 05/05/2016
C2 = 05/10/2016 (because it's a Tuesday)

I've been trying to work out the WEEKDAY function, but can't get it to work. It's been a while.

At one of the restaurants in our complex, every Friday evening between 5:00-6:30, our card readers begin declining debit and credit cards. This has been a routine occurrence for the past several weeks. About 90% of the transactions get declined, regardless of the machine (Exadigm 1200). It denies all types of cards (AMEX, VISA, MASTERCARD ect). The POINT OF SALE machine it is connected to (the machine where the servers put the order in) is not affected. We have ruled out any problems with our network, all IP's are static so no conflict or DHCP leasing. During the outage, I ping each machine and the switch with 0% packet loss and full connectivity.

We also have another restaurant in the complex with the exact same setup, however, there are no problems with transactions going through.

Our best guess is there is a problem with the companies processor for that specific unit. Any other ideas or troubleshooting techniques?

Firefox Surpasses One Billion Downloads Friday

Congratulations to Mozilla and Firefox for passing the one billion downloads milestone on Friday. CNET takes a look at the achievement and why the number is only part of the story. About the only thing preventing FF from being my primary browser is a lack of threaded support. I absolutely LOATHE losing the entire browser just because a single tab crashes or hangs.

But lest Firefox fans get too carried away with their success, there's another number that shows what Mozilla is up against. According to a source familiar with Microsoft's statistics, IE 8 has been downloaded more than 200 million times in the last four months since its release. That's a fifth of the way to what Firefox achieved since Firefox 1.0 was released nearly five years ago. And Microsoft hasn't even begun pushing IE 8 through update in earnest yet.

Answer:Firefox Surpasses One Billion Downloads Friday

Nice!
I don't think IE 7/8 counts as it's a pseudo-compulsory update with Windows :P

I'm a student and I can't afford anything like a Mac, So my options are very limited, but anyways.

I'm looking to buy a new laptop on Black Friday, because my current HP laptop (w/Celeron processor) is breaking down.

I'm just going to use it at home in general, and I usually use it all day.

Right now I'm considering, Sony or HP (..again) or maybe Dell? (Max $500)

What's the best? Pros and Cons? Price? Webcam quality? Battery life? Any fan/overheating problems?

THIS SONY VAIO LAPTOP

OR

THIS HP LAPTOP

ANY OTHER YOU SUGGEST?

I'd appreciate any help! thanks!

Answer:PLEASE HELP me pick out a good laptop to buy on Black Friday?

Intel dual core processors (Vaio) tend to heat up more than the core i series. Since you want to use it all day i would suggest HP.

I don't know if this is where this question belongs, so mods move it as you see fit. I was wondering if anyone had any experience trying to buy mid- to high-end parts on Black Friday or Cyber Monday. Do sites like newegg or tigerdirect offer good deals? Are the parts easy to get or do they run out of stock immediately?

Thanks,

VishKapish

Answer:Black Friday/Cyber Mpnday Deals on parts?

I got a GFX card last year for about 70 dollars off from newegg.
Great deals, but with the economy, don't count on them to get better by the years.

Earlier this week, an issue impacting Internet Explorer affected a small number of customers. The potential exists, however, that more customers could be affected. As a result, today we have released a Fix it that is available to address that issue. This is an easy, one-click solution that will help protect your computer right away. It will not affect your ability to browse the web, and it does not require a reboot of your computer. Then, on this Friday, Sept. 21, we will release a cumulative update for Internet Explorer through Windows Update and our other standard distribution channels. We recommend that you install this update as soon as it is available. If you have automatic updates enabled on our PC, you won?t need to take any action ? it will automatically be updated on your machine. This will not only reinforce the issue that the Fix It addressed, but cover other issues as well. Today?s Advance Notification Service (ANS) provides additional details about the update we are releasing on Friday - MS12-063. We are planning to release this bulletin as close to 10 a.m. PDT as possible. This cumulative update for Internet Explorer has an aggregate severity rating of Critical. It addresses the publicly disclosed issue described in Security Advisory 2757760 as well as four other Critical-class remote code execution issues. For more details, please check Source

Answer:Internet Explorer Fix it available now; Security Update scheduled for Friday

Thanks for the update!

Can anyone help me out with suggestions? I'm a FPS, RPG (Witcher 3/ROTTR), Racing and Flight/Fighter Sim guy.

I'm thinking of adding Blood & Wine and hearts of Stone to Witcher 3. COD historically disappoints me a bit with console ports that still don't have DX12. But I'm thinking maybe Black Ops 3 (cheap) but likely pass on Infinite Warfare still a bit expensive for DX11 and the reviews I've seen.

How is Fallout 4 and GTA V? Blackrose, you have those, right? I know GTA V is constantly on Steam's most popular. But is it a lot of driving as opposed to shooting? I don't like game controllers and hate a lot of driving with a keyboard.

For those who don't have it yet, I noticed a huge discount on Doom.

Answer:Black Friday Weekend (2016) Game Recommendations

Sorry, just saw this.

Fallout 4 is pretty fantastic. There are more than enough side quests to keep you busy if you don't feel like rushing through the story and the story itself is pretty good (so far. 320 hours in but haven't finished it yet).

GTA V has a great story based single player mode which is about equal parts driving and shooting if you go straight through the story. You can also do things in story mode like play the stock market, which I found to be fun. There's also GTA Online, the multiplayer section, which I've spent most of my time on lately. It's challenging, but has a ton of various modes (races, stunt races, PVP deathmatches etc.) that can be a lot of fun. If you're into playing with randoms, there are also things like motorcycle clubs or companies that you can form or join that have their own separate missions that can bring in tons of money and XP. You will run into modders/cheaters on GTAO occasionally, but R* has done a decent job with the banhammer lately.

I tend to mostly play GTAO with friends, but I will sometimes pop into public freeroam for things like challenges (Fly lowest to the ground for the longest distance, longest bail from a land vehicle etc.) which pit you against the others in the session for bonus cash.

I just looked it up and I'm up to 997 hours and 27 minutes in GTA V, so obviously I think it's worth paying for. hahaha

hey folks working on a pc with an infection and when the pc starts it loads hi contrast fonts sticky keys and what not also Userinit.exe created Friday March,13,2009.....that seems odd. there is a registry key that no matter what keeps reoccuring and it is hklm/software/microsoft/windowsnt/winlogon userinit.exe, SKEYS.EXE /I.....Looks suspicious to me. only just started removal process and not touching this file until i get some clarification.

Answer:Userinit.exe created Friday March,13,2009.....infection

Pretty safe bet the machine has been compromised. If you can get into Safe Mode (Command Prompt only), run the following command and make sure to have the XP installation CD handy:

sfc /scannow (then press Enter and follow the prompts as required)

If any of the system files are corrupt, it'll tell you and request the originals from the CD (I'm betting there's gonna be a ton of 'em).

Ok, right off i'll say that i know neither of these is a particularly good laptop, but my budget is short, and my need to have a laptop is high, so i'm rather stuck choosing one or the other. Its not impossible for me to stretch out another $100, but with rent and bills do and extra expenses coming up, extremely painful. So, we're trying to decide between the lowest Best Buy and WalMart options:

Best Buy
HP w/
Intel Celeron 900 2.2Ghz 800FSB
2G DDR memory
160G SATA 7200RPM
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 4500M
3 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi, 5 in 1 media reader, DVD±RW/CD-RW

WalMart
Emachines w/
AMD Athlon 64 Processor TF-20 1.6Ghz 667Mhz bus 512K L2 cache
2GB of PC2 @667MHz DDR2 Memory, expandable to 4GB
160GB SATA 5400rpm
ATI Radeon HD 3200 Graphics with up to 1919MB of HyperMemory supporting Shader Model 4.0, Microsoft DirectX 10
2 USB 2.0 ports, Wi-Fi, 5 in 1 media reader, SuperMulti Double-Layer DVD burner
There's only a dollar's price difference from them, but their spec sheet (not helped by style differences) are so different to a layman that i have no clue which is better, hence the question. I've been running on Macs for years, but recently used my travel room mate's Dell with XP and found that i could live with it (still prefer my old beater of a Mac), and of course Linux is always an option, so it comes down to the hardware doing what i need. All i use a computer for is email, web surfing, listening to music, and watching the occas... Read more
