Google releases Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome

Question: Google releases Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome

The native bookmark manager of the Chrome browser is as basic as it gets. All it enables you to do is to search bookmarks, move them to and from folders, and to delete or edit them.

When you compare that to the Firefox bookmarks manager for example, you will notice that it is far superior. From options to sort bookmarks in multiple ways over extensive editing option to the display of additional information about each bookmark in the interface.

Google has released a new Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome and Chromium-based browsers that aims to improve the native bookmark manager.

It replaces the bookmarks manager which you notice when you open the bookmarks in the browser. Instead of displaying folders and links only, colorful tiles and other information are displayed by it by default now.

You find search, edit and import/export options at the top now which is an improvement to the native implementation. The search has been improved by Google as it will include information found on the page itself in the search and not only the bookmark title, snippet and url.

The left displays all folders just like before but with options to display subfolders right away or hide them instead.

The location of each bookmark is highlighted by the tile, and drag & drop operations are supported to move bookmarks around. Tiles seem to be placeholder icons. New bookmarks show a thumbnail image of the site in question instead.

The extension adds a star icon to the toolbar that you can click on to bookmark the current page. This did not work on my system and I'm not sure if the issue is caused by a bug or because I'm not signed in to a Google account. It is interesting to note that tapping on Ctrl-D did work and allowed me to bookmark pages.

Doing so displayed an option to select an image from that page, add a custom note and select the folder for the bookmark.

Signed in users can get their bookmarks organized automatically by Google similar to how Google sorts emails in its new Inbox application automatically for users. This seems to be optional though.

Closing Words
The new Bookmark Manager by Google improves the bookmarking capabilities of the Chrome browser. Options to select an image from the page and add notes to bookmarks right away are nice to have and the ability to find bookmarks based on page content is great as well.

It is unclear why it has not been integrated directly as the new bookmark manager. Maybe it is a test to see how it is perceived by Chrome users before a decision on that is being made.

Preferred Solution: Google releases Bookmark Manager extension for Chrome

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Back in june this year, Google announced an alpha Google Chrome extension called "End-to-End" for sending and receiving emails securely, in wake of former NSA contractor Edward Snowden’s revelations about the global surveillance conducted by the government law-enforcements.

Finally, the company has announced that it made the source code for its End-to-End Chrome extension open source via GitHub.

Google is developing a user-friendly tool for individuals to implement the tough encryption standard known as Pretty Good Privacy (PGP) in an attempt to fully encrypt people’s Gmail messages that can’t even be read by Google itself, nor anyone else other than the users exchanging the emails.

PGP is an open source end-to-end encryption standard for almost 20 years, used to encrypt e-mail over the Internet providing cryptographic privacy and authentication for data communication, which makes it very difficult to break. But implementing PGP is too complicated for most of the people, therefore, the new tool was designed to make encryption easy.

Woke up to a new bookmark's page in Chrome - and I DO NOT like it
I want those tiles or list view to be history.
Is there a way to get the old one back?

Answer:Disable Chrome's new bookmark manager page. Any way to get the old one back?

Best way I dealt with such pages, I created on my hard-drive my own default home page, and "hard-wired" IE, GChrome, FF to use that hard-drive html as home page. From that home page, I can go anywhere anytime. I know of no way to go back into history and use a past page -- unless one can copyNpaste that desired html onto the hard-drive, make a few necessary tweaks, and "hard-wire" that page into IE, GChrome, FF.

This issue is of no real practical consequence to me other than the fact that it's a bit annoying and also a matter of curiosity as to whether I can alter the settings of my Chrome browser bookmark manager so that it won't open up each time two thirds of the way down the menu and with the same folder being opened with it's list of contents.

I've attached a partial screen clip below to show you that specific area to which it always opens. I have the bookmark manager loaded into my bookmark bar (toolbar) and have the bookmark manager list open as a sidebar. My problem is that I am unable to alter the settings so that list opens to the beginning of the list, and not to the "Reference Information" folder area, and also I cannot stop that folder from being opened each time I open the manager.

I of course have closed the folder and set the list to the top of the selections when I closed out in hopes that setting would be kept, but no such luck. If anyone could inform me as to how the default setting could be altered, I would appreciate it.

Quite frankly, I am uncertain as to whether this is a Google Chrome issue or a Windows 7 issue.

Hi all,
my Google Chrome has a very slow loading for the bookmark folders that contain a few hundred bookmarks on my bookmark bar. When I try to navigate to those folders, the entire browser just hangs there for about 10 seconds before the list of the bookmarks in the folder pops up. However, with bookmark manager it loads just fine. This has been very troublesome for me as I am very used to opening bookmarks via bookmark bar, also drag-and-drop my favorite websites directly into my bookmark folders on the bookmark bar. I hope there is a solution to this. Thanks!

Google Chrome 4 Gets Bookmark Syncing

The latest developer versions of the Google Chrome browser come with the build in option to synchronize bookmarks across multiple computer systems by utilizing a Google account to store the data. Google Chrome dev build users might already know the feature from previous developer builds where it had to be enabled by launching the Google browser with the ?enable-sync parameter to enable the menu item and the feature.
The rest of the functionality remained the same. The bookmarks will still be stored in Google Docs and not in Google Bookmarks, apparently because of the way bookmarks are stored in the web browser. The latest builds of the Google browser, for example 4.0.223.11 and above, offer bookmark syncing between multiple computer systems running Google Chrome out of the box.

Some of you that use Google Chrome may have noticed that the bookmark menus have changed (different colour background and more widely spaced).
A workaround to revert to the original style is to add a space followed by
--disable-new-menu-style to the end of the Target field in the shortcut that you use to launch Chrome.
Note that if the existing Target field information is enclosed in quotes the space and --disable-new-menu-style need to go after the final quote.
If you launch Chrome from an URL link the workaround doesn't come in to play.
There is speculation that Google may "fix" this unwanted change as it is irritating a lot of users.

I installed the latest stable version of Google Chrome today as I was after a better performing browser (than IE) and Chrome (and its derivatives) seemed the best bet.I like a lot of aspects of Chrome, especially its minimalist layout and Chrome certainly performs well with pages rendering considerably faster than IE. However, it falls down so significantly in one major area, the handling of bookmarks (aka favourites), that it just isn?t a viable candidate with the laborious bookmark handling negating the performance benefits of Chrome.I would be interested in others input to my criticisms and suggestions below. In particular I would be interested if anyone has suggestions as to solutions / workarounds to the points I raise. My intention is to submit a considered review (in respect of bookmark handling) to the developers rather than a piecemeal comment (complaint?) about just a single aspect.BTW, I could have posted this in one of the other forums, but the Helproom seemed as good a place as any. Thanks, BatchSo what is it about Chrome that?s so bad?Firstly, let me say that I have in the order of a thousand or so bookmarks, organised in a series of folders and sub-folders.See next post....

Answer:Google Chrome - poor Bookmark handling

As for the issues:----------------------1. On importing my old IE favourites, Chrome wants to place these in a separate ?Other Bookmarks? folder over to the right of the window. These aren?t other bookmarks ? they are my main bookmarks and I want them to be recorded and usable as such in Chrome. It seems I have to manually drag each of the folders and top level URLs in to the main bookmarks area. This immediately leads on to the second issue.2. If one creates a series of folders / URLs immediately in the Bookmarks bar, these appear across the Bookmarks bar and rapidly fill this up, requiring one to shuffle (not scroll), using the displayed double chevrons, back and forth across the bar (just like one has to generally on overloaded toolbars in various apps) to see the folders. This is incredibly painful. The alternative to this (I hesitate to call it a solution) is to create one main folder (say ?Bookmarks? at the top level and then put all of the real folders below this. This then, at least provides a single expandable / collapsible hierarchy.3. But unfortunately the use of the hierarchy is not sticky. So when one navigates to a particular sub-folder and opens a URL and then want to open another URL from the same folder one has to navigate all the way back down again. This sub-folder access is very much akin to the Windows Start Menu navigation (in fact it looks and performs exactly like it).The lack of stickiness can be circumvented to some extent by opening up th... Is there a way or an add-on, to add deletion verification to bookmarks (Y/N)? Its annoying to find out that someone has accidentally hit that delete button on any bookmark (or entire folder) only to find out theres no 'undo' option, and that no one was asked 'are you sure Y/N' on doing so :( thanks for any help.

This is surely the worst thing about the browser (other than any media or websites not loading correctly, or default browser bookmarks not having the option to be on the left hand side of the screen, next to "save page as pdf", without having to import from another browser, or create your own bookmark folder).

As far as I can tell, I have the right extensions installed to allow the following to happen: When clicking a link, the new link is to open in a new tab. This apparently is working fine except when I'm in a Google search screen (ie, searching for something using Google). When clicking a link within Google, the link opens within the Google tab, whereas it should open in its own tab (like Firefox)???

The same thing also happens when clicking a bookmark. That is, in order for a bookmark to open in its own tab (not in the existing tab), I have to right click and choose "open in new tab." Would like bookmark opening to open in new tab, just like Firefox.

Answer:In Chrome, want Google and bookmark links to open in new tab.

I'm not sure about Chrome, but I have Firefox and in order to open anything in a new tab, I just middle-click it. Or to do that from the Location Bar or the Search Box, I just press Alt+Enter.

Finally: Google Chrome Extensions Turned On By Default In Dev Releases

Not many users understood why the Google Chrome development team decided to operate with lots of switches to manage some functionality of the web browser. Users who wanted to turn on the extension engine had to launch the web browser with a parameter, the same is true for userscript support, bookmark syncing and dozens of other switches that are available as launch parameters. The reason for this method of testing is not clear to most users who think that Google could also add options to enable or disable these features in the web browser?s settings which would make it more comfortable.

G'day.

So I was browsing the web and checking my bookmarks which I view in my day-to-day internet life and I found out that my bookmark icons have been changed automatically and it is not the real icons too, just some random icons added.

Even the MalwareTips icon has changed. I did a complete scan using MalwareBytes and Hitman PRO and cleaning cookies, cache's and temps using CCleaner. But my system was clean.

Is this the new 'Gauss' virus which was detected by Kaspersky's and is now all over Middle East?

Thanks.

If you are worried about Gauss, you can use this tool:

Extensions let you add new features and functions to your browser. My computer was running slow so I went to my task manager and seen a whole bunch of Google Chrome processes running. I was confused at first because I don't even have Google Chrome installed. As I tried to stop the processes one at a time, more only popped up. Then I looked it up on the net, found others yall have helped on this site, and know there's something wrong. If possible, would like to know how and when the malware was installed as I have multiple students that use the pc and this is the first time ever had this happen, would like to know if it was a user doing something wrong by accident or on purpose (is even possible to know, but mainly would like to just get pc fixed!)

I right clicked and Disabled Antivirus AutoDetect (Norton); Downloaded zoek and have result log attached. Required a pc reboot and did that too. Problem is still happening. It also changed my home page to google.com (I changed it back). I also uploaded a picture of my task manager if that helps any.

Cookies can be used for authentication, storing your site preferences or anything else that can be saved as text data. Unfortunately they can also be used to track you.

You could turn off cookies completely or just shut off third-party cookies. But that would also keep out useful cookies that many web apps rely upon to work (like Google Mail or Calendar).

With Vanilla you can select which cookies you want to keep on a whitelist. All unwanted cookies are deleted automatically (or manually if you prefer).

If you close your browser often, follow the "recommended usage" on the options page to get rid of unwanted cookies whenever you close Chrome. If you seldom close you browser you should let Vanilla automatically delete unwanted cookies after 30 minutes.
By default no cookies is deleted.

All the cookies from visited websites will be in "unwanted cookies" list.
Double click the website that you want in whilelist
Click "Add" to add in whitelist
Website added in whitelist
Similarly add other good websites in whitelist

Here you can choose after how much time the unwanted cookies will be deleted automatically

You can add websites in whitelist as shown below.

5 Google Chrome Extension For Google Services

The extension development for the Google Chrome browser is slowly taking up speed. While there is still no option to use extensions in the latest public release of the Google browser the developers are slowly improving the capabilities of the extensions manager. The latest dev builds of the web browser support extensions right out of the box without having to supply startup parameters as it was previously required. It is generally expected that extension development will really take off when the public releases of the browser start supporting extensions.
The chance is however relatively good that some developers have already created extensions for popular web services. This article will look at five Google Chrome extensions for popular Google web services including Gmail and Google Reader.

Hi, about 3 months ago I accidentally downloaded the SaveOn program which has affected Google Chrome as an extension and IE as a toolbar. Whenever I restart the computer they come back, but I've just been dealing with it by deleting the extension from Chrome, and then it becomes usable again. I believe that it is now keeping me from updating my Chrome browser now, though, so I need to get rid of it for good. I ran Farbar and have attached both documents.
Thanks in advance.

Hello,

I'm have some trouble with an extension for Google Chrome which always returns after I reboot my notebook.

I noticed that it happened after a game was installed using Steam, and that game had secondary installers. One of them gave me problems to install, so I did it manually (the program was pbsvc_blr.exe). Ok, after all of that the game didn't run and I deleted everything.

Then, the ads started to show up in the pages. I looked in the Extension manager in Google Chrome and there was an extension called "gcknhkkoolaabfmlnjonogaaifnjlfnp".

I am 100% sure it is a virus, or a malware of some sort, but nothing I did seemed to work. So I come here to ask for some help.

I'm sorry if this isn't the place where I was supposed to create the topic, or if there was another topic with the same problem already fixed, but I would appreciate some directions.

Thank you, anyway.

Hi all, I recently bought a new HP Envy notebook about a month ago, and it came installed with Windows 8 and the newest HP SimplePass software. Not being a huge fan of Internet Explorer, I downloaded Google Chrome, and--to my dismay--the SimplePass extension did not download with it. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling SimplePass, but that didn't work. I read some other forum posts on this topic and ended up downloading the Authentec SimplePass port for Google Chrome. This caused the entire fingerprint scanner to stop working, so I uninstalled everything and started fresh. Can anybody help me get SimplePass working with the newest Chrome and Windows 8? I appreciate all of your help!

Answer:HP SimplePass Google Chrome Extension?

Hi Rehg98, Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP ENVY Notebook and issues with SimplePass and Google Chrome. The biometric device is the hardware that controls the fingerprint reader. There are options in the BIOS to turn the biometric device on and off. Here is a document on how to turn it on.Hope this helps.Thanks.

Answer:How to get rid of Save On extension on Google Chrome

Hello,
Before we start please read and note the following:
Limit your internet access to posting here, some infections just wait to steal typed-in passwords.
Don't run any scripts or tools on your own, unsupervised usage may cause more harm than good.
Do not paste the logs in your posts, attachments make my work easier. There is a Upload a File button which you can use to attach your reports. Attach all reports.
Stay with me to the end, the absence of symptoms doesn't mean that your machine is fully operational.
Note that we may live in totally different time zones, what may cause some delays between answers.
Do not ask for help for your business PC. Companies are making revenue via computers, so it is good thing to pay someone to repair it.

I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!
There are no silly questions. Never be afraid to ask if in doubt!

I've been having problems with multiple adware extensions on Chrome, most of which I have managed to delete...except for EnormouSales. I have deleted all extensions on the browser manually so that when I check the Extensions list on Chrome there is absolutely nothing. However, when running Task Manager I can see that Extension: EnormouSales is being run (enclosed a photo of the screenshot down below). Even when I End Process the extension will disappear and rerun itself after a while.

I have used the following to scan my computer:
- Junkware Removal Tool
- AdwCleaner
- AVG
- Hitman Pro

They found several files and deleted them accordingly, but even now after having run them all I still have EnormouSales active. The extension shows multiple adds that come in the forms of redirects, popups, and extra search results (which are actually ads) on Google.

This is so frustrating. I've never install any antivirus in my life but I've been very careful with files I dowload over the internet so I've never have any problem. This is the first time I face this kind of problem.

Basically I have a go save extension on google chrome which keep on appearing even if I delete them through extension page as well as through remove program. And it seems after few weeks I have 3 extensions that keep on appearing after I delete them.

I have done the FRST scan and upload them here

Answer:Go Save google chrome extension

Hello,
Fix with AdwCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save the file to your desktop.
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
Follow the prompts and click Scan.
When finished, please click Clean.
Upon completion, click Report. A log (AdwCleaner[S*].txt) will open.

Please include the contents of that file in your reply.

======================

Fix with Farbar Recovery Scan Tool

This fix was created for this user for use on that particular machine.
Running it on another one may cause damage and render the system unstable. Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop:

Both files, FRST and fixlist.txt have to be in the same location or the fix will not work!
Right-click on icon and select Run as Administrator to start the tool.
(XP users click run after receipt of Windows Security Warning - Open File).
Press the Fix button just once and wait.
If for some reason the tool needs a restart, please make sure you let the system restart normally. After that let the tool complete its run.
When finished FRST will generate a log on the Desktop, called Fixlog.txt.

Please attach it to your reply.

Hello,

Whenever I try to use Google Chrome all these pop ups and ads take over the browser. When trying to delete the extensions (neXtCoup 1.0 and Pricoechop 3.9) manually from the setting/Extension of Google Chrome it comes back after shutting down the browser and opening it up again. Very annoying. I also even tried finding the program under uninstalled programs and can't seem to find these programs in the list. I also have Microsoft Essentials and it didn't find anything. Any guidance on what free program i can use that will remove these annoying ads and unwanted extensions?
Thank You.

You could possibly use Adblock to block the ads https://getadblock.com/

Then go to chrome://settings/

Under extension, disable every extensions and then click the trash icon. They shouldn't do anything if disabled, then restart the browser and see if that helps.

Hi, while searching on google chrome I have recently noticed that in the google list of results there is a popup 'ads from safeware' listing 'enhanced results'. I tried a few steps from this site http://malwaretips.com/blogs/safe-saver-virus-removal/ with no luck so far. I have also in the process, found in chrome extensions, one called DigiSavero 6.7. I have no idea when or where this came from and I cant seem to find any info on it either. I was wondering if someone could shed any light on the subject.

Miscreants have created a Trojan that poses as a Google Chrome extension.
Spammed messages attempt to dupe prospective marks into trying an add-on that "helps you better organise your documents received in your email".

Interested parties are pointed towards a counterfeit Google Chrome Extensions page, which offers a malware executable.

More observant punters will notice that the download is offered in an .exe file and not a .crx Google Chrome extension. Such markers are easily missed, however.
The Trojan horse malware on offer (identified by Romanian security firm BitDefender as the Agent-20577) blocks access to Google and Yahoo webpages. Attempts to reach these sites on infected machines are hijacked and redirected to counterfeit sites. Such trickery is commonly a prelude to either phishing attacks or a technique by the hackers behind the trick to gain affiliate income from scareware slingers or other undesirables.
The appearance of the attack shows that cybercrooks have begun targeting Google Chrome users, something that only tends to happen when a product or service becomes widely used among end users and is therefore a compliment (of sorts) to the success of Google's browser technology.
More on the threat can be found in a write-up, containing screen shots, by BitDefender here

From Google Chrome Now Offers A 'Do Not Track' Extension:

After much discussion today on how the Google Chrome web browser’s up and coming “Do Not Track” button would be applied to the browser in future versions, Google has gone ahead and released a preliminary extension to make it so. This extension is one that anyone can click to install on their Google Chrome browser with ease, the functionality of it very likely to simply be baked in to future Google Chrome releases. This extension acts to opt your web browser out of online ad personalization via cookies once and for all – permanently. This extension offers you an one-step persistent opt-out.Click to expand...

Hello. For several months, Google Chrome on my Windows 8 laptop (at work) has been infected with the GoSSave 2.0 extension (my other regular browser, Firefox, has not been affected). I have attempted to remove it via Add/Remove Programs, Malwarebytes and clicking the trash can in the Extensions menu, but only the latter works on a temporary basis. Each day when I start up the computer and open Chrome, I need to manually remove it.

For the last few weeks, I've also gotten a pop-up screen when I open Chrome with the header: Disable developer mode extension, which is followed by this text:
Extensions running in developer mode can harm your computer. If you're not a developer, you should disable these extensions running in developer mode to stay safe.
This screen includes two buttons: Disable and Cancel

Also note that any ads that pop up indicate Ad by GoSave (with only one "S" as opposed to two in the extension name).

Please let me know if you have any suggestions on how to permanently remove this extension, using free software if at all possible. Note that I will be out of the office on Friday, so if no one is able to follow-up on this today (which is perfectly understandable), I will check back with you on Monday. Thank you.

Answer:save on Google Chrome extension/virus

Hello,
Before we start please note the following:

Analysis and research take some time, also sometimes real life gets in the way, please be patient.

I can't foresee everything, so if anything unexpected happens, please stop and inform me!

Greetings people!

I recently un-installed a program by the name 'Wise Registry Cleaner' because I figured it was useless.
I used the method of control panel to remove it.
Directly after un-installing it, I get multiple popups.
It opened Google Chrome as well, leading me to the Wise Registry Cleaner's website.
There was a popup that said a 'WhiteSmoke' extension was installed.
My Chrome was completely re-themed and all my settings have been modified.

I tried to fix it by deleting the 'WhiteSmoke' extension but it did not appear under chrome://extensions/.
In fact, none of my previously installed extensions were showing up.
At that point I knew I had a problem so I ran multiple full scans with Hitman Pro, Microsoft Windows Malicious Removal Tool, Microsoft Security Essentials, Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and IObit Malware Fighter.
None of them found any threats.
I tried using TDSSKiller, Adwcleaner, JRT, and RKill to no success.
All I could manage was to remove the Conduit search engine option and clear my cache and browsing history.

I have a Dell Studio 1735 running Vista Ultimate 32-bit.
Google chrome is my default browser.
I'm not sure if this is the only infection/issue on my laptop so any help is greatly appreciated.
Please and thank you!

P.S. I noticed my Chrome is very buggy.

Hello everyone. Thank you for your access.
I am a user of the latest version Firefox and Vivaldi Browser.

I have a question about "Hola VPN" extension on Google Chrome.

Today, I installed the Vivaldi Browser and some extensions to my desktop PC.
I am using Firefox, and I like it very much. But I wanted to try a new Browser, so I choosed Vivaldi.

I also want to introduce a VPN extension to Vivaldi. I searched it on the Google Chrome Official Store.
Then I find the Hola VPN Extension. It seemed that the "Hola" is very useful extension. I installed it to my Vivaldi.

But I am worrying that is the Hola VPN extension connects P2P networks.

In Japan, a famous magazine-blog told that Hola VPN is using P2P networks for manage the service, and Hola Client Soft is connects this P2P networks.
The article also says that if you installed and use Hola VPN Software, your bandwidth will be used by other user of Hola VPN, and it may lead to accidents.

So I want to ask everyone about Hola VPN Extensions.

Question 1:
Is the Hola VPN extension on Google Chrome connects P2P Networks?

Question 2:
Does installing Chrome extension of Hola VPN lead to using my network bandwidth by other Hola VPN users?

Question 3:
Is the news article right?

Question 4:
Did you know some Free VPN extensions for Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox?
I want to choose Tokyo as VPN Access Server location.
Are there extensions which the user is able to choose Tokyo as access location?

Answer:Need help with safely removing SaveOn extension from Google Chrome

Hello,
Before we start please read and note the following:

I still need Addition.txt report.

There's a lot of note-taking extensions out there for Google Chrome. Now I was an avowed Opera browser before I explored Chrome. Didn't take me long to make the switch.

What I really enjoyed about Opera though, and probably the one reason why I stuck with it, was the notepad extension built into the browser. This wasn't any ordinary extension: it was simple and efficient to use. It had a search bar to search for specific keywords in notes and those notes would be pulled up. Even had a mini icon next to the note to let you know what website that text originated from, among other features.
None of the current Google Chrome extensions for note taking are anywhere close to as efficient, with the exception of Mini Notepad, but it's still not close to par from the Opera version. Anyone know of any type of script, extension, or whatever program is similar to what I'm trying to find?

I am reposting my topic from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/538013/google-chrome-extension-caused-a-problemmalware/?p=3397067

You can see that even the pasted sentences below are highlighted in light blue.

I downloaded a free extension from Google Chrome Web Store called History Calendar made by Russian programmers, it's supposed to allowed the Chrome users to look for older surfing history (3 months or more) and URLs easier. It instead messed up my Chrome.
I had to discard it.

Now, SiteAdvisor is not working or displaying in Chrome.

Both search results from Google displayed in Internet Explorer and and Google Chrome will be highlighted in blue colour unless Siteadvisor is shut down. Once Siteadvisor is shut down, I am blind even though I have WOT.

Whenever, I signed in to email my username also will be highlighted as I typed my password.

I found out from Google search that Google Chrome Web Store is riddled with malicious malware in the shape of extensions (free of course). I should have found earlier but now it's rather late.Damaged done!

First, it's annoying to see search results in Google.com and my username highlighted all the time whenever I logged in for my emails, going to forum like bleepingcomputer, or searching for info.

I was on vacation, so my desktop computer was not in use for 2 months.
I logged in my google chrome account using another person's laptop, and the browsers in that laptop somehow got affected by these malicious software.
I tried many different ways to remove those virus but it was in vain, so I removed google chrome from that laptop and was using IE only.
When I got back from vacation, I realized that my desktop computer was affected as well. I am not sure if the two devices somehow got linked or something.

Please help me with this problem....... These extensions are too annoying to be neglected.
Thank you!

I will working be on your Malware issues, this may or may not, solve other issues you have with your machine.

Hello,
Uninstall some programs

We need to uninstall some unwanted/unneeded programs.

Press the + R on your keyboard at the same time. Type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
Search there for each entry mentioned below, right-click the entry and click Uninstall one at a time
The list of programs to uninstall:
BlockIt Ad remover
IncrementEdit
After completing uninstalls, please manually reboot your machine!

Note: If you get the message like: An error occurred while trying to uninstall, just press Yes.

Hello all.

Earlier today someone asked about a few browser extensions which turned out to be rogue, so I decided to see how long it'd take me to find another extension which was posing as a reputable security vendor (but isn't really from one). It took less than 1 minute. I went to the search bar and looked for "ESET NOD32" and instantly got the following on the search results: ESET NOD32 Antivirus (beware the link should be unavoidable by you because it points to a fake ESET extension, do not under any circumstances install it unless you are testing it in a secure environment).

Nice! The full ESET NOD32 software as a browser extension as the screenshot for the extension demonstrates...

News flash, it is too good to be true. The extension page on the Chrome Store shows many red flag indicators, I'll list some for you.

1. The account which uploaded the extension ("lomernixmzloa932") - a professional vendor like ESET will not be using personal account handle names, especially worded like that, to publish their software (including extensions).

2. ESET are actually a Slovakia based company (originally at-least), therefore it makes no sense for them to only offer English language support. Of course maybe it is one of the most popular languages in the world but I am sure if you were a German company then by default you'd support German before English? Also ESET have translators, they always have some form of multi-lingual support.

Answer:Fake ESET NOD32 extension analysis (Google Chrome)

I've found two more extensions over on the Google Chrome Store which appear to have been made by the same people who authored the one I used for this analysis.

The URLs are below, remember to be responsible and careful with them.

Code:

https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/online-avast-antivirus-se/jkoeopldgpnkjklifappmhmibgkgdmna?utm_source
https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/online-avast-antivirus-se/ifbghkfjclonkhipcfoicgacnhfgjema?utm_source

The similarities are too close to indicate it was authored by the same person/people, I do not believe it is a coincidence. One of the above extensions has applied anti-analysis techniques however the actual JavaScript code format is more-or-less identical (and 360 minutes is used for the timer instead of 180), whereas the other one will rely on shortened links instead of hard-coded target ones. Not to mention that one of them also uses the same alarm name and techniques, and the one that has applied anti-analysis techniques for strings and what-not also relies on short-links (which both matches them as similar when you also take into account the identical code style and how all three of them are posing as security software extensions).

background.js from one of the above fake Avast extensions.

Code:
chrome.alarms.create("check-ext-exists", { periodInMinutes: 180 });

chrome.runtime.onInstalled.addListener(function (details) {
if (details.reason == "install") {
chrome.browser.open... Read more
