"CCleaner is a straightforward Mac OS X application that enables you to clean your Mac?s hard disk by deleting unnecessary files.

Quickly clean and optimize your Mac from within an intuitive interface

CCleaner comes with a user-oriented interface that helps you view basic information about your Mac, such as the running OS X, computer model, processor and RAM info. The side panel offers you access to the built-in Cleaner, Tools and Options tab.

Thanks to the Cleaner tool, you can delete Safari?s Internet history and cache along with your download history and all stored cookies. In addition, you can empty the System Trash, Logs and other temporary files. On top of that, you can clear the Internet cache, history, cookies, download history, site preferences and more from other installed Internet browsers.

Analyze, examine and clean your Mac with just a couple of mouse clicks

The great thing about CCleaner?s is that you can first analyze your Mac?s hard disk and view how much disk space you can recover by running the cleaning utility. You can also preview the items that need to be removed before initiating the cleaning process.

By accessing the Tools tab, you can safely uninstall various applications from your Mac or from the Startup list. In addition, you can repair permissions and erase free space to prevent unoauthorized data recovery.

Keep the files you need and remove the items you will never use

What is more, CCleaner can be easily configured to fit your needs via the Options tab. Hence, you can enable the secure deletion option and decide what level of data overwrite you want CCleaner to perform by default.

CCleaner is a user-friendly and very simple to use OS X application that will automatically find all files you no longer need on your Mac.

After finding all garbage files on your system, CCleaner will also allow you to easily get rid of them with a simple click of a button.

Besides cleaning your Mac, CCleaner will also help you protect your online privacy, reclaim your disk space and will make your computer run faster and be more secure.

Here are some key features of "CCleaner":

1.Cleans your Mac's disk
2.Helps you uninstall apps
3.Repairs permissions
4.Erases free space
5.Erases web cookies
You can also create a whitelist for web cookies you want to keep and select the files and folders you which CCleaner to remove every time you initiate the cleaning process. At the same time, you can decide which files and folder you wish CCleaner to exclude from cleaning. You can also decide which languages you want to keep which languages you want to be removed from your Mac."

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer:Piriform ccleaner

CCleaner is a freeware system optimization, privacy and cleaning tool that removes unused, temporary and junk files from your system to include temporary Internet Files, Cookies, History, etc. Use of the cleaning feature is recommended to delete such files in order to help speed up the scans performed by anti-malware scanning tools. While CCleaner is safe and useful for removing temporary and junk files, I do not recommend using the built-in registry cleaner unless you have a good understanding of the registry. In fact, Bleeping Computer DOES NOT recommend the use of registry cleaners/optimizers for several reasons: Registry cleaners are extremely powerful applications that can damage the registry by using aggressive cleaning routines and cause your computer to become unbootable. The Windows registry is a central repository (database) for storing configuration data, user settings and machine-dependent settings, and options for the operating system. I have seen this program, and it looks like a way to eliminate some of the backlog of files that are using memory for the "restore file" program. It allows deleting various numbers of the files. My question about it is, does the program work as it seems to do, or are there problems in using it? Any help would be appreciated. Each vendor uses different criteria as to what constitutes a "bad entry". One cleaner may find entries on your system that will not cause problems when removed, another may not find the same entries, and still another may want to remove entries required for a program to... C Cleaner 1.0.0.0 - new release

Download page:http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/C-Cleaner.shtml

About:
"C Cleaner is a small, yet useful application that enables you to permanently delete temporary files from your user account folders. The software can detect recently created temporary files and easily remove them. It can display the files in its interface, as they are deleted, as well as render the total number of erased files.

Simplicity in system cleanup

Accessing applications, installing programs or browsing the Internet can cause several temporary files to be created and stored on your computer. The term ?temporary? does not refer to their limited storage on your system, but rather to their usage and purpose. For instance, a temporary file can be created when transferring an item from one location to another.

While they are not necessary anymore, the temporary, or junk, files remain on your computer, in one or several locations, usually in the AppData directory. C Cleaner is designed to thoroughly scan this folder and identify if unnecessary files can be found in it. The file extensions that it searches for include .TMP, .DAT or .INK.

Lightweight application with clear functionality

C Cleaner is a small and lightweight application, with a uncomplicated interface. All you need to do is open it and click the Clean button. The software quickly performs the search and automatically erases the temporary files it identifies. It can display the nam... Read more

With the release of version 4.18.4842, the install of Piriform CCleaner will automatically enable a limited version of active monitoring that's part of the paid version.

If you're like me and don't like having a bunch of running processes, it's simple to disable.

Load the main window, then click Options - Monitoring, then uncheck "Enable system monitoring".

Next, click Advanced, then uncheck "Enable Active Monitoring".

That's it!

Is it safe to run the Windows part of Ccleaner?
Should I untic any entries?
Thank you

Answer:Ccleaner

Moved to the Software Forum because this is not a malware issue.

Yes it is safe but be aware that removing all cookies will remove any saved passwords. And removing History may remove things you may wish to have kept too. It's up to you. You can selectively setup which Cookies to always keep under Options>>Cookies.

Also note that eveything under the Windows tab and the Applications tab are part of what gets cleaned up when you click Run Cleaner.

Thanks and God Bless
Bruce

Answer:ccleaner

Hi

If you are meaning autosign ( where you have to retype user and password ) in for your bank then its likely that the cookie set for the bank is by default removed when you run CCleaners Cleaner, but you can protect this cookie via going to Options > Cookies > look down the left list and find your Banks Cookie and use the -> to add it to the protected ( cookies to keep list )

You can do this with other cookies.

If you connect to your bank in a different way to logging in to an online page, please advise to what method is used.

The registry section of CCleaner is safe to use. It will prompt you to make a backup before it runs. If for some reason you find and issue that was incorrect, you can easily restore the backup.

Question: CCleaner help

I use to use CCleaner to clean the Registry and I allways wanted to ask about it.

If I un install say Audacity it will leave files in the Registry and all programs do this.

So when I use CCleaner it sould get any files that are not Hoocked into other Programs anymore.

Well how does it do this and does it work?

If say some programs are un installed then how does it look for files in the Registry to see if they are still Hoocked into other programs?

Answer:CCleaner help

There are often unused registry entries left behind after a successful uninstallation. These unused entries do not affect your computer performance in any way, and are best left alone. These are not "registry errors", as some commercial "cleaners" want you to believe, but just unused entries, taking up a few bytes on your HD.

Some people are obsessed with "cleaning" the registry, and some day they will have scrubbed their registry hives so clean that the computer won't start any more.

Question: Using CCleaner

I have been using this utility (like many others) for a while and I wondered if anyone would venture an opinion on the safe use of of entries under Cleaner>system and Cleaner>advanced. I know a lot of it is personal preference but there a some of those check boxes I'm a bit wary of (i.e. I dont know what they are), e.g.DNS cache, Wipe Free Space. Any opinions would be welcome.

Answer:Using CCleaner

Generally, if you do not need the space, you will not need to use these options. Some, if not most of these options will clear various caches, logs, uninstallation files, etc.

Hi I just downloaded CCleaner and because I needed to uninstall Amazing Photo Editor. So I went to "tools" and selected Amazing Photo Editor, and instead of clicking "run uninstall" i accidently clicked "delete title". Its not off my computer, just off the list of programs. How do I get the Title of Amazing Photo Editor back on the list so that I can uninstall it?

Thanks!

Answer:CCleaner help please?

I don't think you can get it back on the list.

I'm not certain where CCleaner gets its list. If Amazing Photo Editor isn't in Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs then you could go to C:\Program Files folder and see if you have a folder for that program and look to see if there is an uninstaller in the folder which you could run.

If no such uninstaller you could try Revo uninstaller (but again I'm not sure if it gets its list from Windows or populates itself).

When using Ccleaner Wipe Free Space,,,System Restore Points are deleted. Windows has a habit of deleting restore points to make disk space when it seems that there isn't any more. Filling the free space with 0 files gives Windows that impression. Hope I helped someone,,I found out the hard way!!!!

Most PC's have system restore set to 10%-12% of HDD space, I usually go with one to three percent, if it is used at all. Usually give the Recycle Bin less room too. Always install CCleaner on any PC that goes on line, that I am using, but have only used the wipe free space option on a few occasions .

Question: CCleaner

I've been using this program for some time now, and it has a feature which you can use to scan your registry for issues, and then fix them.

It also allows you to create a backup before going through with the changes. I haven't used this in some time, and that's what I'm getting at. I've been using this feature pretty haphazardly without creating a backup beforehand, and I was wondering how safe this is.

I know messing around with your registry can cause a lot damage, but I was under the impression that with Crap Cleaner, it was relatively safe.

Anyway, I've not encountered any problems as of yet, but nonetheless, I figured it'd be good to at least have some idea of the implications of what I'm doing before I just up and do it without thinking.

So should I be using the backup option more often? Or can I pretty much just delete most of this stuff and not have anything to worry about?

Okay so i have mentioned this programe before and i have watched youtube vids on it too but nobody, that i have found, tells you what not to delete. Not wanting my computer to crash or develope other nasties i like to play it safe and therefore what dangers are there in deleting things from this programe? I don't want to delete anything from my favourits section. what items should i leave unticked for complete safety and if i do go wrong how do i rectify the mistake other than do a system restore?

On my first run I took off all the ticks and ran analyse on one tick at a time. I let it show up what it was finding and if I did not fancy proceeding I unticked and went to next line. This allowed me to see what it was finding and gave me confidence to delete step by step. You can do a backup when dealing with registry with the built in save.Don't clean if you are uncertain but most will tell you CCleaner removes junk and not good stuff. You should always keep a backup. As Mike31Jp points out in the comments section of the News article, using the Portable files to refresh your installed CCleaner gives you the equivalent of the Slim version without needing to wait for the official version to be released.

Question: ccleaner

hey,

ok most of the people here will allready be fimiliar with the software cclreaner and what it does so I aint gona bore you with that. basicly I ran it a couple days ago just to clean out old keys and my browsers. but everything is starting to go wrong. my browsers are having trouble connecting to servers and I can no longer run a system restore, edit user accounts or file searches (even using command prompt) I'm 99.9% sure that its not malware of any kind. I've ran avast scan on boot and run and corrected a hjiack this log and the problems above haven't been corrected ='(

has this happend to anyone else using ccleaner? I never made a back up of what I deleted so is there anyway I can fix it? baring in mind that I can no longer run a system restore.

Answer:ccleaner

By "cleaning out keys" you mean using the issues tab in CCleaner? It gave you an option to back-up the files, no? If you opted to back them up, then simply restore them. See how it works then.

Hope this helps,
Meit

Question: CCleaner

This is from the Basic Computer Maintenance thread on this forum :

'Remove invalid registry entries:
Next up is the registry. Frankly, the registry is overrated as a speed tweak, in general, but it does get large and can contain many invalid references. The registry is not an area for even the average computer user to be playing around in. The good news is CCleaner has a safe registry cleaner built in, so why not clean out old, invalid entries?

Click the issues button.
Click scan for issues.
Click fix selected issues.

Thats it, your done, a safe, fast registry clean.'

My problem is when i open the CCleaner program i cant see a button that says 'issues'. Can anyone help me out?

Answer:CCleaner

Which version are you using? In the latest version, they've replace the title, Issues, with Registry.

By the way, I would add this to the three-step procedure: Backup the registry when prompted.

I recently downloaded and installed CCleaner from the internet and ran the Registry cleaner scan. It reported numerous problems and offered to fix them. I just need some reassurance that fixing these problems won't mess up my computer because I've heard horror stories about computers that have been messed up by bad registry changes. Is CCleaner a trustworthy program?

Has anyone on here used CCleaner? If so, does it work, and what are your thoughts about it. Thanks.Mod Edit: This will be moved to a more appropriate Forum.

Answer:Ccleaner

Hi Socom

CCleaner is fairly well recognised as a useful appn. Every time you push a key on your computer it is recorded somewhere, log files are everywhere you don't normally see. The foregoing may not be strictly accurate but the last time I used CCleaner, I got about 1.6GB extra space on my hard drive so it is worth doing occasionally.

One thing that I would suggest is, click "Options" on the left side. Then "Advanced". Then untick "Close program after cleaning". Just to see what it does.

Answer:CCleaner

I'd just let it run... sometimes it takes awhile if you haven't cleaned your temp files in a long time.

Also, it won't back up temp files. It's pretty darn safe. There's no real damage you can do from removing temp files.

Reboot, and rerun ccleaner.

See if that helps any. Some cases I found that ccleaner will mark certain registry entries for deletion, but windows will not delete them until a reboot.

Question: Ccleaner

Hi everyone , this is sort of a question about ccleaner which I have being using for a month or so. I use to use System Mechanic until a friend told me about ccleaner. It seems quite a good program but just latley Ive had a few problems such as missing dll files and the computer just going a bit slow and hanging. Did all the usual stuff but I had to upgrade anyway so I did a format 2 days ago. Everyting went ok, put on my programs and run ccleaner. Did a reboot not long after and could only boot into a black screen.(This happened direvty after runing ccleaner) So my question is im not game to put it back on my computer until someone covinces me its a safe program. (p.s. ive fixed the pc)

Answer:Ccleaner

CCleaner is a powerful tool that is very dangerous for those of us who know just enough to be dangerous!

The default cleaner is safe enough - but using the other tools requires an in-depth knowledge of what's going on inside your system.

Any changes to the registry should be preceded by a backup (which CCleaner will do for you). Any file deletions (other than the default cleaner) should be thoroughly researched before deleting them permanently.

Question: Ccleaner

I downloaded CCleaner and went through the Windows and Applications part with not much of a problem.
But when I went to Registry section and I ran it, it came back with 411 entries. It asked if i wanted to make a copy of them and I did and it was put into my Documents folder.
I started going through the entries and saw some were from from programs that were installed and removed, so I knew i could remove them. But there were entries that I have no idea of what they are. Some have a huge set of numbers and others I have no idea what they mean. But there were also some of the Microsoft UPDATES in this file. So I am stuck at that point.
Should I post what these files are? If so, I am not sure if I know how.
Let me point out one more thing in case you didn't picked this up, I am COMPUTER STUPID so please, please explain in the simplest terms.
if it wasn't for MG, I would be really lost.
Thank you

I have used CCleaner for years on my computer and have been satisfied with it. So today I installed it on my sisters computer opened it and used the clean up scan, I don't use it to mess with the registry. After it did the scan it popped up the page that on mine asks if you wish to delete these files only on hers it said it had deleted the listed files, never did give me the option to review them before deleting them.

Just wondered if I missed something or what? I like to review what it has found and select what I want to delete.

Question: AVG & CCleaner

Been following the wisdom here for a while now, using CCleaner. Also been using AVG free for years.

AVG seems to create a huge temp file doing its scan and CCleaner wants to delete this each time. In CCleaner should the AVG tick in Utilities be removed to keep this temp file? Would AVG benefit by having yesterdays temp file available?

Answer:AVG & CCleaner

Hi

I would say no to keeping this temp file, was going to say unless AVG found any malware but then that would be in report. I dont see a benefit that sticks out as its likely just a history of what was scanned, are there many of these files in the temp location and what size are they?

What file extention do these files have as there was an issue with temp files being created with .MHT extention that latest version of AVG should fix.

Chaps

I like to keep my pc clutter free, so I delete cookies and tempoarary files every night. I know its a bit over zealous but it keeps the pc operating nice and fast.

I have heard of some software called cclean but a friend of mine who installed it was frightened to use it because it appeared to delete everything in sight.

Question: Ccleaner

I was wondering what people thought about this. I was reading this other post about there way of cleaning is. And with Ccleaner I scanned the register section and got like 50 plus missing dll and a lot of etc.. and I was wondering if it was okay to fix all those or no and don't risk hurting my computer?

Answer:Ccleaner

I've used the Ccleaner registry cleaning tool on many Pcs and lappies with zero issues.
Ccleaner will prompt you to "save changes" before cleaning up the registry.
I'd reccomend you do that, as in the UNLIKELY event of a hiccup, the registry can be restored to it's earlier state.
Quite honestly I've yet to see a post on Mg's where CC had created problems on a PC.

Cheers..
