Avast Free and Avast Internet Security ( in terms of memory usage )

Question: Avast Free and Avast Internet Security ( in terms of memory usage )

Confuse between Avast Free and Avast Internet Security .. In terms of memory usage. Which will use less CPU and RAM?
Can you help me?

Preferred Solution: Avast Free and Avast Internet Security ( in terms of memory usage )

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Avast Free and Avast Internet Security ( in terms of memory usage )

I know that the free version is light weight but Internet Security may be higher considering that it uses a firewall and various other stuff. But to be honest I have no idea. I would recommend trying to trial version of Internet Security and see how it does and then try out the free version.

Answer:Avast 2015 Free vs Internet Security

First of all, Avast 2015 was just released and in my opinion too early to make judgements. Detection rates should be identical assuming both have NG installed and running. Internet Security will have more features.

You can see what's on offer by visiting their new and updated website, http://www.avast.com

Here's a screenshot comparison between Free (left) and Internet Security (right).

Avast Firewall does have some cool tricks with tracking where your Internet-facing application are connecting too - I forgot the name from 2014.

Hello, which is better? Norton Internet Security 2011 or Avast! free 5.0? Which one will slow down my computer more, or has higher detection rates?

Answer:Norton Internet Security 2011 vs Avast! Free 5.0

The best in the opinion of most does not even seem to be listed. Microsoft Security Essentials, gets high marks in all areas. Its free, too. It has a good malware engine and works great with the Windows Fire Wall.

Hello, I have an Acer Aspire One netbook running Windows 7 Home Premium, and I need protection. It only has 1GB of RAM, so would I get Avast! free 5.1 or Comodo internet security 5.0? I was thinking of maybe MSE 2.0, but heard it is not RAM friendly.

Answer:Avast! Free 5.1 final vs Comodo Internet security 5.0

I wouldnt use Comodo AV since its hasnt been tested and it has an okay detection. The backbone of the whole suite of comodo is the D+ which is a HIPS.

Why not use Avast Free + Comodo FW w/ D+? You get a very good AV and an excellent firewall+hips program.

AIS has SecureDNS.

A user in Avast forum mentioned "It is programmed so that it is used, and not your isp or other dns services".

I think during install this should be mentioned that SecureDNS enabled will use Avast DNS instead of ISP DNS or system DNS.

SecureDNS enabled gives randomly "check if the site name entered is correct".

SecureDNS disabled gives no probs.

And this is confirmed. I am checking for past few days.

Anyone with the prob?
And does SecureDNS has malware/phishing protection?

Answer:Avast SecureDNS in avast Internet Security?

SecureDNS is design to provide protection against hijacking webpage which translates the web address to IP to determine if its in blacklist + in my view the malware/phishing protection may already incorporate in Web shield so there's no problem if both turn on.

I haven't used avast for a while so I thought of downloading it and trying.

The other day I was looking to avast 6 features and I came across this feature called as "SafeZone". I clicked it and it switched me to an avast OS. They only include a browser, no my computer or documents. I thought it will be nice to test malware links in it.

Is avast SafeZone good or should I continue with my VMware Win-7 OS to test malwares. I felt no slow down while using SafeZone.

Thanks.

Answer:avast! Internet Security 6 - avast! SafeZone

SafeZone isn't meant for testing malware links, nor is it an OS.

The avast! SafeZone is special web browser in avast! Pro Antivirus 6.x and avast! Internet Security 6.x, which allows you to browse the web in a private, secure environment, invisible to the rest of your system.Click to expand...

I'm a former Bitdefender Internet Security user. Looking to experiment with other products. I want to know what is the best choice for my Windows 10 lap. I don't want my machine to get slow but need enough protection. Also, need to mention that I plug my lap to my office network so need protection from others possibly infected machines in the network.

Answer:Avast Free + Windows 10 Firewall vs Bitdefender Internet Security

I believe it is not a correct comparison between free and paid products.
BIS is a great security suite, all in one, effective and very configurable but a bit heavy on the system.
Avast is one of the best free AV, and if it is configured in hardened mode (aggressive), it provides very solid protection.
The Windows firewall does its good job, even if it is not easily configurable, but you can use third-party applications like Windows Firewall Control or Glasswire, to better manage it.

Which would be better for zero day malware protection and signatures: Avast Internet Security 2016 Or Avira+ Comodo firewall

Answer:Avast Internet Security 2016 VS Avira Free + Comodo Firewall

Avira + Comodo firewall is almost unbreakable. Best signatures and best proactive for zero day malwares.

Hi

A friend gives me an Avast Premium license for 8 months. I am using a free combo with Comodo Firewall (Cruelsister settings) and Avast (Jack settings) and I have doubts about which option protects me better.

I dont know the quality of the Avast firewall, I also dont know the level of its sandbox and on the other hand, Comodo Firewall is not comfortable to maintain, since it blocks legitimate programs, browser extensions, and even Windows updates.

I know I can have Sandboxie installed on my computer to act on demand, but what I'm most interested in knowing is what configuration do you advise me regarding protection.

Thank you in advance

Answer:Avast Premier vs Comodo Firewall + Avast free

Avast is sux better totaly change it to other software... go use fully Comodo and instal free zemana and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for o/d scan. if you dont like comodo sandbox you can use free version of sandboxie at last.

I am having a problem in my sister's laptop. She does have antivirus installed (AVG Internet Security). However, its license expired, so I downgraded it to free version. After, downgrading it, I installed Avast! as it's antivirus and decided to uninstall AVG. Then, a few minutes ago after rebooting the laptop, a window opened saying that Trojan is infecting my computer, I heal it.. Then, another pops out. Heal and heal and heal..

After doing it, I rebooted the laptop thinking that it will refresh the system. Unfortunately, after rebooting, I cannot connect to Internet now. :cry :cry :cry Help me please? I already performed the Malware removing however, it did not help the laptop. I attached the files you asked me.. Please, help please? Thank you!

Hello, I'm new here. I just clean installed Windows 10 and am wondering what AV to use. I've used avast! free for the last 3 years (windows 7 and 8), but now that I'm on a new sparkly clean OS, I've decided to reevaluate and survey the field for cheap or preferably free options. Panda , Avast, Avira, BitDefender, etc.

It seems to me, from what I've read, the most balanced in terms of zero day and general protection (online or off) is Avast (talking about across the board protection, heuristics/behavior/signtatures/yada yada, avast just got HIPS too). Comcast offers Norton for free though, a full security suite. Norton is never mentioned as a top contender nowadays. However, how does it compare to avast free? Thanks folks!

Answer:AVAST Free Antivirus 2015‎ vs Norton Security Suite

Hello welcome to MT

I 'd pick Avast free, I'm used to its settings... and with hardened mode can protect more effective. Its been a while since I used Norton. It was pretty good when I used it.

It depends on if you want a change or go with what you know... but both are light and decent choices.

First, thank you for your reading.
I want to ask you about the better setting for building secure PC on Windows 10 as a consumer.

I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as the main anti-malware software and firewall software on my PC. It looks good.

But at sometimes, Bitdefender is heavy a little, especially when updating signatures.
And booting time of my PC is long. Updating time at start up Windows is also long. I think it.

So I seaching another security softwares for my PC, and I find some softwares which I guess that it is good for using PC. The soft is Avast Free 2016, and Microsoft EMET or Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit Free Edition.

~Q.1~
Which is better, Avast Free 2016 or Bitdefender Security 2017. I will use EMET or MBAE for covering protection of vulnerability when I use Avast Free.

~Q.2~
What is Bitdefender and Avast Free regarded as security software for Windows 10 Consumers?
Which software do many people regard as a good solution?
I heard that Bitdefender is getting very high level score in many tests, but it is heavy for many PC.
And I aloso heard that Latest Avast Free gives security enough for many consumers, but sometimes do false detection, and it may be serious for OS at sometimes.
Please teach me about above things. I guess my English is not well, but I will read all replies from everyone. If I will be late replyng you. excuse me.

Thank you!

I know alot of people here like AVAST Anti-virus free edition. What about the paid version "internet security"?

I would assume that it is an entire security suite complete with email and spam protection, firewall etc..

My question is would this be a good suite to get or would buying separate protection elements e.g (anti-virus, firewall, spam and email) from separate manufacturers be better. I hear so much about the Avast anti-virus, but not much on their firewall?? I guess I'm just trying to find something to replace McAfee total protection when my subscription runs out and kind of like the idea of a total suite.

Answer:AVAST Internet security

Am not familiar with the paid edition myself but I have used the free edition for a long time and am extremely happy with it, as are many, many other users, so if that's anything to go by, then it certainly wouldn't hurt to give it a go!

Evening all,

As the title says, I have just installed Avast Internet Security, and now I cannot access the internet without disabling the Web Shield.

I've looked at their knowledge base which, for a computer numpty like me, is not very helpful...

It says...

Check your firewall configuration. For the correct operation the Web Shield process (ashWebSv.exe or aswWebSv.exe) needs a permission to access the Internet on TCP port 80 and a permission to act as a server and accept incoming connections from localhost (the local machine) on TCP port 12080.
Err... What? How do I go about this?

For your information, I have uninstalled Norton 360, and am running Windows 7 Home Premium.

Cheers,

I have recently bought a new laptop and I installed norton security standard version no backup
And yesterday I got a new license from the avast giveaway that was posted here on MT
I like how little impact has norton on my system but I don't know if it is good enough for detecting PUP and PUA, and this system might not be always connected to the internet (around 80% of the time),
so do you guys think that avast is a better solution or should I keep norton

Answer:Avast internet security 2016 vs Norton security standard

I vote for Norton.
If you change SONAR to agressive you will have better protection against zero-day threats even offline.( despite Sonar requires on-line connection for better heuristic real-time protection. )
Norton is lighter, Its improved performace and, I think if you are 80%of the time not connectec to internet, norton gives you a very good layer of protection

Check if you have valid license key or has the trial has expired.
Go to add or remove programs and then click on avast and repair it.
Actually you have posted this query in the wrong thread. Your query will mostly be moved by a mod to the proper place so dont be surprised if you dont find it.

Answer:Best configs for Avast Internet Security?

Here are instructions on how to setup Avast. Its for 2016 but its still relevant today.

How to setup Avast Internet Security for Maximum Protection (2016 Guide)

As for malwarebytes and zemana, since their both free options you can have both stored on your pc and run weekly or monthly scans with them.

I would also recommend malwarebytes 3 over 2. It has come a long way and is not nearly as buggy as it was when it was first released. I would not suggest running outdated software. Malwarebytes 3 is their baby now. Not 2.

Hi,

So, I need to protect my computer, had no luck with ESET not working and Panda causing BSOD's, so I'm now evaluating other options for a comprehensive protection (antivirus, antimalware, would be nice to protect banking, web browser and have a firewall) that I have offers to get quite cheap from my local vendors. Since there's no general topic, I'll ask on the subforums of the possible options. So, how good is Avast IS? How good are their labs and engineers? Are the lab tests really that good?

Any advice would be nice... Thank you.

It had stated that I could "go back to the free Avast with just a click!" but I have no idea how.

Any help would be extremely appreciated. Thank you!

Answer:How to uninstall Avast Internet Security

EDIT: I feel like a complete moron. Avast seems to have hidden where you click to get back to the free version. Sneaky sneaky..
Anyways, I went to Maintenance > "SUBSCRIPTION" [normally it would say REGISTRATION] and clicked the bottom arrow.. then "get back to Avast Free"

I apologize for creating this thread. It's no longer needed.. but I hope it helps out someone else wanting to get back to the free trial.

Hi downloaded Avast Internet Security trial version twice tonight and both times I had to remove it because it stopped my Internet Connection.
It downloaded Ok but Firewall and one of the scanners would not work probably because of the no connection.
Tried everything I could think of and looked at The Network Adapter in device manager and found about 4 or 5 bits and pieces of Avast on there.
That cannot be normal can it.
I think the main cause could be that the Security Center is not running.
Went into services and set it from Manual to Automatic but it still does not run.I pressed run now and it closed with error 5.
I removed MSE to install Avast so don't know if the problem is anything to do with that.
I did a system restore twice to remove Avast maybe I should have used Revo Uninstaller.

Answer:Cant get Avast internet security to work

It's best to use the antivirus removal tool to uninstall such programs Avast uninstall utility.
How did you remove MSE? MSE removal

As a one time lover of Avast, it disappointed me when this once excellent software began to slide in detection and have problems. (Blue screens, incomplete uninstalls, bloat, and the list goes on) The latest version looks promising. Just wondered what others thought about the new version. I'm not putting Avast down in any way. But reading posts here and in the Avast forum over the past year or so, indicates what I've said is true. Thanks.

Answer:Internet Security it OK to finally use Avast again?

Hi,My daughter and I both had the free version of avast! Antivirus on our computers. Before she installed it on hers, however, she had AVG. She got a virus when prompted to install update for Adobe Flash Player. She couldn't get rid of it. It got past her firewall and into her security center. She had to do a system restore. Twice. So she uninstalled AVG and installed avast! and registered it with her name and info. Then I decided to go ahead and upgrade to avast! Internet security and purchased it for 3 computers. But I don't know how to get it to include her computer. I didn't see anything answering that question on the avast! FAQ. Will she need to uninstall it and reinstall it?Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Installing avast! Internet Security

What is the exact product name of her Avast product? If it isn't exactly the same as what you have. She will need to uninstall hers and install the one you have available for her.

I'm helping my friend's mother setup her new laptop. Bran new windows 8(wow is that different) from Best Buy. Being from best buy and all, it of course has all sorts of software that it doesn't need. She put on Avast as that's what my friend told her to do, as that's what I usually put on for people since it's FREE and a decent program. The question/problem:It came with Kaspersky Internet Security (NOT installed). My first thought was that, it doesn't need it. But, I started to consider installing it for one reason. My friend's brother is living at his mom's house again and he uses the laptop as well. Now a couple years back when my friend was still living there himself, his brother used his computer a lot. (my friend is blind). While cleaning up my friend's computer I often found traces of, well... visits to sites that my friend didn't appreciate his brother visiting. I don't think I need to explain that further. Now, this is something that the mother is completely unaware of, at least as far as I know... they're all grown adults and all. Not my place to bring it up. I don't know if he plans on using her laptop for such things.... SO... looking at the back of the kaspersky internet program it mentions parental controls. I was thinking, maybe I could set some things up so it's more difficult for him to visit such sites... something that none of them even need to know I did. I decided that since th... Read more

Salutations,

I finally figured out that Avast Internet Security is the culprit that is blocking my FTP transfers in Cute FTP and any other FTP program ( i.e. FileZilla ).  What do I do to fix it??

Windows 7 Ultimate SP1
Avast Internet Security v2014.3.0.2011
CuteFTP v9.0.5.0007
FileZilla v3.7.3

What do I do to fix this?  It works fine if I disable Avast.. they changed the interface and I'm a bit lost.  The network application rule has been set to allow all connections for both programs and the windows filewall has passed both of them.

Thank you for your time and effort on my behalf..

Less than a year ago I purchased a license for Avast Internet Security, mostly I bought it for the firewall so that I could actually have private browsing because I have no choice but to use a public wifi and the wifi I believe has a parental advisory or some kind of setting like that on it. When I first started using the avast once it was activated I had no problems with accessing the sites that I wanted to with no problems but for the past three months or so I have had issues like when I try to go to one of the sites I get blocked by the advisory on the wifi. At that point I went into the program and I selected the option on the firewall to turn off until restart of computer so at that point I restarted the computer and once it came back to the desktop and I opened up my browser and attempted to access the site I was trying to get to it worked, so every time that my firewall seemingly stopped working I went through the same process each time and it worked every time until this most recent time. A little over an hour ago I tried to access one of the sites and I got stopped so I closed my browser and opened Avast I then set the firewall to turn off until computer start then once I closed avast and made sure everything else was closed then restarted the computer, pretty normal for every time this happens, once the computer came back up I opened my browser and attempted to go to the same site and was once again blocked. So I do not know what is going on with the Avast program... Read more

I have a friend asking me to help make her laptop secure.. I'm not a computer genius I just know a tiny bit but somehow I'm a computer guy now.  It runs Windows Vista and currently has Trendo Micro Internet Security Pro running on it and although it says it provides some type of anti-virus the computer gives a alert that says it isn't protected in the notification tray. When I click it and the Windows Security Center comes up, it says under Malware protection that no program is found for Virus protection.

My question is Avast, without paying for anything, better protection than Trend Micro Internet Security Pro?

If I had to install Avast with Trend Micro still on the computer would it cause a interference and freeze it up?

Answer:Trend Micro Internet Security Pro or Avast

There is no universal "one size fits all" solution that works for everyone and there is no single best anti-virus. Every vendor's virus lab and program scanning engine is different. Each has has its own strengths and weaknesses and they often use a mix of technologies to detect and remove malware.IMO avast Internet Security is just as good as Trend Micro Internet Security Pro.See the IMPORTANT NOTE about not using more than one anti-virus program in this topic: Choosing an Anti-Virus Program

I am running Windows 7 - 64 bit on my laptop. I currently have Avast Internet Security installed and I have tried to uninstall the Avast software as I wish to change my antivirus software. I have tried uninstalling in safe mode using the Avast Clear utility. Unfortunately after using this utility the Avast program still remains on my hard drive in Program Files which I then have to delete manually. After doing so and restarting my computer I have no internet connection and the only way I can restore my internet connection is by copying the Avast program back into my Program Files. This is very frustrating and annoying and I would really appreciate it if someone could help me to resolve this problem so that I can remove Avast without losing my internet connection.

Hi,
I had Internet access this morning on my desktop computer prior to upgrading my free avast software to the trial version.
After I upgraded it, I no longer can access the Internet. I'm not sure how or why that happened but I was wondering if you could help me to restore my connection please.
I rang my service provider and they were unable to help.
I'm running Windows XP.
My modem is showing as connected and my computer is picking up the signal from the Ethernet cable also. When I hover the mouse over the local area connection icon it shows that the Internet is connected but the browsers all say Server Not Found.
Please help. Thanks

Follow these steps incase your Internet connection is connected but you cant browse using any of the browsers.
You might be able to play games online like CS 1.6,DOTA or HORN but JUST cant access any website.
METHOD 1:
>> Resolve your DNS settings to that of Google's
1. Go to LAN settings
Control panel > Network and Inernet > Change adapter settings > Right click on local area connections > Properties > Click on IPv4 > Properties >
Use following DNS server address > Preferred DNS : 8.8.8.8 Alternate DNS: 8.8.4.4.
Check validate settings upon exit.
If it still doesnt work then repeat the above steps but uncheck validate settings.
METHOD 2:
>> WINSOCK reset
1.Go to run and type 'cmd' (Run as administrator)
Type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" and press enter
Type "netsh winsock reset" and press enter
Reboot
METHOD 3:
>>DNS Flush
1.Go to run and type 'cmd' (Run as administrator)
Type "ipconfig /flushdns" and press enter
Reboot
If none of the above methods work then do a boot time scan using your antivirus cos it might be a virus attack thats causing the problem.

Verdict
From the firewall to the spam filter, the sandbox to the new network scanner, there's a lot to like about Avast Internet Security 2015. Experts will appreciate its extreme configurability, too. But Avast's distinctly average protection scores from labs including AV-Comparatives and AV-Test are a significant concern, and this core antivirus issue makes the suite hard to recommend.

We Like
Smart firewall, accurate spam filter, SafeZone protects your privacy, handy new network scanner, highly configurable, some detailed Help pages

We Don't Like
Unimpressive detection results with independent testing labs, can interfere with some legitimate applications, some tools require extra spending to be useful

So i ran across a website in hunt for a new wallpaper in google images. The site (***.ryylxjw.com) was instantly blocked by Avast as infectious.
As far as i can tell Avast blocks 15 items on the site and refuse to open it. Seen in retroperspective i should have noticed that the url was, lets say, a bit odd but i didnt check at the time since i was clicking on an image.
You can see what image i was clicking on in the upladed image.

Anyway, i went to VT and scanned the url and the scan says 0/68. So now im a bit lost to what Avast is protecting me from?
Is it a real threat or a FP???

Not sure if this is the correct forum but i had a hard time finding a place for this question.

Answer:Avast blocks site but VT Internet Security all green.

Are you sure than you are not infected?

Shared Antivirus
Avast's lab test scores range from best to worst. It received AAA-level certification fromDennis Technology Labs and rated Advanced+ in two tests by AV-Comparatives. However, "crazy many" false positives caused it to fail the file detection test from that same lab. Bitdefender and Kaspersky generally take top scores across the board.

In my own hands-on malware blocking test, Avast earned 9.0 of 10 possible point, better than most products tested using this same malware collection. Webroot SecureAnywhere Internet Security Plus (2015)earned a perfect 10 in this test.

My malicious URL blocking test uses newly-discovered malware-hosting URLs, typically no more than four hours old. When I challenged Avast with about 100 of these, it blocked all access to 29 percent at the URL level and eliminated another 43 percent during download, for a total block rate of 72 percent. That's quite good, though McAfee Internet Security 2015 managed to block 85 percent.

Good, Not Great
Avast Internet Security 2015 offers almost all of the expected suite components (parental control is the exception), but their effectiveness varies. I like the innovative home router scan; this is an area that most vendors overlook. And Avast offers plenty of other bonus features. The problem is, top suites just do a better job overall.

Self-explanatory title; Why was Passive Mode added to Avast? Was it highly requested or internally implement to improve compatibility with Windows Defender on Windows 10?

What are your thoughts and opinions on Passive Mode for Avast?

Answer:Why did Avast add Passive Mode? And Internet Security it needed?

I believe Passive Mode is simply a bypass for the whole "Uninstall other AV products" page that you get when you try to install a new protection suite over an existing one. For example, if you have EIS installed, and you try to install Avast, it used to inform you that EIS must be removed first. Passive Mode will bypass that and install Avast anyway with Passive Mode auto-enabled.

Not a whole lot of user posts about Passive Mode so far, but this seems to be the gist of it.

Hi all,

new beta version is live: 12.3.2277
This release is about passive mode which will make it easier to run Avast with another antivirus. To try it you can go to Settings and turn it on. It basically disables all realtime protection, but still receving virus definition updates and program updates so it's ready for on demand scans. Please try also to install this beta version on system, where is already another AV running, in that case the passive mode should be activated automatically. Please note that the other AV must be registered in WSC. This feature works on Windows 7 and higher.

Fixed:
+ BSOD for Skylake processor running Windows 10 Anniversary Update(RS1)
+ Randomly opening Avast UI bug
+ SafePrice browser extension component is no longer installed during update when Browser extension was not installed in the previous version

Download links as usual or just update your current beta.

Enjoy,

Avast Internet Security 2016 offers a great level of protection on its default settings. However, there are a few settings which you can change to increase even more the protection offered by Avast Internet Security 2016.
This guide should also cover Avast Premium 2016, and some settings should apply to Avast Free 2016.

1. Enable Potentially Unwanted Programs (PUP's) detection
A PUP (potentially unwanted program) is a program that may be unwanted, such as spyware, despite the possibility that users consented to download it. This usually includes: toolbars, browser hijackers or adware (ad-supported software)

Open Avast, then click on Settings (gear icon)

In the "General" tab, select "Scan for potentially unwanted software (PUPs)".

2. Enable Avast Hardened Mode
Hardened Mode is designed to make protection tougher without interfering with the computer usage much.
Avast by default checks suspicious files with DeepScreen within virtual environment to see how they behave. But if you use Hardened Mode, it starts to behave a bit differently.

Hardened Mode: Moderate
Under normal conditions, if Avast decides that some file is too suspicious by various characteristics, it then throws it into the DeepScren for further scanning. But if Moderate Hardened Mode is enabled, Avast automatically blocks files that are detected as suspicious by preliminary analysis.
In most cases DeepScreen checks the file and if it doesn't... Read more

Does Avast do a good job at keeping malware, adware etc out of the whitelist that governs hardened mode/aggressive?
In addition to enabling Avast hardened mode/aggressive, I have disabled wscript and cscript.
Does this give me an effective default/deny setup?

Do they have any "file intelligence" service?
Search with a hash to see the file whitelisted or not, so we can check our samples that site.

In most cases DeepScreen checks the file and if it doesn't find obviou... Read more

Good evening everyone. Thanks for your access to this thread. I hope you to read and answer for this question.

I want to ask everyone that which software should I use for keeping security of my PC.

Now I am using Bitdefender Total Security 2017 as main anti-malware soft on my main desktop PC.
And also I was using F-secure SAFE as anti-malware soft on my PC until last week.

Yesterday, I heard that new Avast Antivirus 2017 was released, and new Avast Free is including behaviour scanning system.

I am having trouble deciding which software should I use as anti-malware soft.
Please tell me about your recommend.

I think that...

?Protection features
Better : Bitdefender 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017

?Performance and speed
Lighter : Avast Free 2017 > F-secure SAFE > Bitdefender 2017

?the risk of false positive trouble
Bigger risk : F-secure SAFE > Avast Free 2017 > Bitdefender 2017

?SSL (HTTPS) Scanning is enable without fake SSL certificate to browser
Unnecessary fake certificate : Avast Free, F-secure
Need fake certificate : Bitdefender Total

F-secure SAFE is the very nice solution as protection from malwares and keeping speedy PC. But it is having big risk of false positive ratings; especially the website blocking is not good with many many false positive ratings. And, sometimes slow down my PC.

Bitdefender Total Security 2017 is the best solution as protection from malwares. This software is providing users very nice anti-malware solu... Read more

Answer:Avast Free 2017 vs F-secure SAFE vs Bitdefender Total Security 2017

Quick question, why Bitdefender Total Protection? Do you need ALL those additional features, or looking for an Antivirus only, because there are Bitdefender Antivirus Plus and Free versions.

What about other protection software like Emsisoft Anti-Malware/Internet Security or ESET Nod32 Antivirus/Internet Security?

Hello,

In your opinion which of the two is the best antivirus in Windows 10 Enterprise 64-bit?

Thank you.

Answer:F-Secure Internet Security vs Avast Internet Security

My vote goes to F-Secure, it has a good detection rate and uses Bitdefender engine and most of the time it runs lighter than Bitdefender itself.

Thank you.

I had Avast Internet Security for about 3 years. Recently, I had a computer problem and took my computer to Best Buy's Geek Squad. They installed Webroot, and uninstalled Avast. I am glad they did. Avast had automatically renewed my subscription last year and the year before, and altlhough I e-mailed them several times, I couldn't reach them to tell them that I did not want the installation. I don't want Avast anymore, but am afraid that, in the fall of this year when my present subscription expires (although the program is no longer on my computer), they will reinstall avast and automatically charge my credit card again. I need to be able to talk to someone who will assure me that this will not happen. Does anyone know how I can accomplish this and be done with Avast?

Many, many thanks for your help!

Answer:Solved: Must contact Avast antivirus people, make sure they don't reinstall Avast.

Hi! I would call my credit card company and tell them to stop the payment to Avast. If you have uninstalled Avast, they can't install it. You would have to install it.

I got a pop up that said my virus protection found a bad toolbar and wanted to remove it.  After that my computer kept rebooting.  Finally I was able to debug the boot up and was able to finally use my computer.  My firefox was disabled, so was Maleware Bytes, Avast, and other programs.  I was able to reinstall Maleware Bytes which found one virus (pup.optional.sweetIM.a).  I wasn't able to reinstall Avast! so I installed AVG which didn't find any viruses.  My kids have been using my computer lately and I've had to remove other viruses they accidentally installed.  At this point, I'm pretty sure I still have a problem.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Yesterday I used the Avast uninstaller - avastclear or such name -  to uninstall Avast trial software.  I then installed BitDefender Total Security trial yesterday.

This morning in my BitDefender Event Log, I see this entry:

The application C:\program files\common files\av\avast! antivirus\backup.exe attempted to connect to the Internet using TCP protocol on port 49etc.  Bitdefender Firewall has granted access for this application.

The next entry, about 24 minutes later was:

Firewall module status changed
Firewall has been enabled

I did nothing to disable the Firewall and have a question for BitDefender, but I am miffed that Avast is still slinking around on my computer after I uninstalled it.

Is that legal for them to do that?  How can I get ALL Avast off my computer?

Thanks for help in understanding this.

Answer:Uninstalled Avast but "avast! antivirus\backup.exe" accessed network

Backup.exe is distributed by emergency update to all avast versions...read the explanation by petr_matrix, Avast team in this avast topic. Did you use Windows Explorer to physically search for and confirm that backup.exe is still in that location?Yesterday I used the Avast uninstaller - avastclear or such name - to uninstall Avast trial software.Did you run avastclear in safe mode...per these instructions? If not, that may explain why it was not removed.BitDefender Total Security includes a Firewall. Anti-virus vendors which offer suites with a Firewall allow their programs to manage Windows Security Center & Firewall by default so it has complete control in order to prevent conflicts and duplicate warnings. This management action is normally taken during installation and many users are unaware of this fact. Windows 8/10 Defender and Microsoft Security Essentials are also typically disabled when installing third-party anti-virus software.

Re: Avast 4.8 Home Free AV running on XP XP3.Anyone have any suggestions how to curb Avast 4.8's continuous near 27% CPU usage. Can anything be tweaked in resident protection settings? I think the problem relates to ashdisp.exe. (Task manager shows CPU usage at 27% but in the process list nothing uses that much CPU and system idle sits at around 96%. Ashdisp.exe is close to the top of the list when sorted on CPU usage but never shows more than 4%). Whatever it is that's eating CPU, it isn't letting on. If I uninstall Avast the problem goes away so its definitly Avast.I don't want to run without AV (and I really don't want to pay for it). I was running AVG 8.5 happily, then upgraded to AVG 9 which was heavier on CPU than Avast is and really slow browsing. I've also tried MS Essential and it too is worse than Avast in terms of constant CPU usage (surges up to 50%). I'm sure its my clunky old desktop to blame but any suggestions gratefully accepted.

Answer:Avast 4.8 CPU usage

[system idle sits at around 96%. ]If system Idle Process is using 96% Avast cannot be using 27%.Have you got another user account on your computer that may be set to run a scan.

Hello,
I am having a few problems with my system (currently using Windows 7 Home Premium). Here followes a not-so short description of my problem:
A few days ago, I encountered a somewhat strange problem. While browsing (using Firefox), the computer suddenly froze. I assumed it was caused by an unresponsive script in Firefox , which happen all the time owing to the large number of tabs I run simultaneously, which usually stop in a matter of seconds (sometimes minutes). I did, however, get impatient, and shut down the computer by pressing the on/off button. When I restarted, it updated the registry (nothing strange there, I presume it was the Windows updates that it was installing). However, when I logged on, the Avast! antivirus software I was using was disabled (which caused me to shut down the internet connection immediately so that further (possible) infection could be avoided), and when I tried to restart the Avast! service, it gave me the following message: "Unable to start the File System Shield! Shield unreachable." I tried scanning as well, which resulted in this message: "File System Shield provider not found." Messing around with avast! did, however, slow down the computer tremendously, and the CPU usage was subsequently stuck at a 100%, and I was hardly able to use the computer. Therefore, I shut it off again. When I started it this time, I could not log on: logging on simply resulted in a black screen. I found this highly distur... Read more
