Satellite A500-1GR - RAM Memory upgrade but 3GB usable system memory

Question: Satellite A500-1GR - RAM Memory upgrade but 3GB usable system memory

I upgrade my laptop's ram to 8GB (2*4Gb). A 64-bit version of Windows 7 shows that I have 8GB of memory but there is only 3 GB of usable system memory. How i can use the 8GB. My version of the Bios is 2.00. In the Bios, i have not found the option "Enable the memory remapping feature".

Preferred Solution: Satellite A500-1GR - RAM Memory upgrade but 3GB usable system memory

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A500-1GR - RAM Memory upgrade but 3GB usable system memory

Such option doesn?t exist in BIOS and the whole thing is controlled automatically. BIOS update will not change anything.
As far as I know on Toshiba notebooks you cannot ?force? notebook to use defined amount of RAM.

Answer:Satellite A500-1EN - RAM Memory upgrade

Hello

According notebook specification your notebook can be upgraded up to 8GB RAM. Tested and recommended 4GB module has part number PA3677U-1M4G amd it is 1066 MHz.

Unfortunately in notebook specification I didn?t find what the FSB speed is for Mobile Intel HM55 Express Chipset but you can check it on Intel support page.

If you still need help let us know.

Hello,

As I'm willing to upgrade memory of my notebook, at the moment my notebook has 2x 2GB DDR3 PC3-8500 @ 1066Mhz (at least this is what specification says). I plan to remove them and put inside 2x 4GB, but PC3-10600 @ 1333 Mhz. *Is my plan doable or the 1333Mhz memories won't be compatible with my laptops motherboard?* Problem is, getting 1066Mhz is quite unreal where I live, as they are a quite rare product and most shops offer only 1333Mhz and higher.

Thanks in advance for any answers/suggestions.

According notebook specification your notebook model can be upgraded up to 8 GB.
If you want to have 8GB RAM you can upgrade it with 2 x 4GB. Compatible 4GB RAM for your machine has part number PA3677U-1M4G.

Try to find online store where you can order RAMs with this part number.

Hello,

I own a Toshiba Satellite A500-1H4, and I would like to upgrade my memory from 4 & 2GB to 4 &4 setup.
Given the complexity of the subject, I need some information:

- what are the detailed specs? Should the memory be 1066 or 1333 MHz? Should it have 200 or 204 pins?
- should I replace both of the chips, or would one suffice?

I would be very obliged for any responses.

Also, sorry for my english.

Best regards,
Piotr

Answer:Re: Satellite A500-1H4 Memory upgrade - what specs?

Hi

As far as I know the RAM upgrade is mentioned in the user manual.
Did you check this in the past?

The notebook handles the DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500) DDR3-SO-DIMM (204 pin)
memory modules.
You can upgrade the RAM to 8GB (2 x 4GB) because the Intel HM55 supports 8GB RAM.

I recommend using two exactly the same modules in order to avoid some compatibility problems.

I have just upgraded my A660 to 8Gb using 2x recommended Toshiba 4Gb memory modules. (DDR3 4GB 1066Mhz SODIMM)
Running Windows 7 64Bit OS

DxDiag and Computer properties all seem to recognise all 8Gb, however in Taskmanager it only recognises 4026MB of physicam memory.

Running latest BIOS 1.80

Answer:Satellite A660-11M - Memory Upgrade to 8GB only 3.93GB usable

Hi

What does the POST (power on self test) screen shows up; 4GB or 8GB RAM?
Is the whole memory recognized in BIOS?
If yes, then the memory has been recognized properly and Windows 7 64bit should be able to use all 8GB RAM.

Hi there,

I have just added 4Gb Crucial memory (2x2Gb) to my existing 2Gb RAM (2 x 1Gb) for 6 Gb total. The system info shows 6Gb but only 4.94Gb usable.

Any suggestions as to the difference and how I might get more usable memory?

n.b. When only 2 Gb was installed it all appeared usable.

(I have looked and Max Memory is unchecked in msconfig)

Second take a memory test to see if its the slots or the sticks or neither

To the future posters, lets not get into the mix and match thing. If thats not the problem, here fine, lets just find out what is the problem.

After installing a 2GB DDR3 1066 SIM to in addition to an existing installed 2GB Sim I was expecting at least 3 GB usable but it is only 2.46 GB. Running Windows 7 Pro 32Bit Is there anything I can do to increase the Usuable RAM?  Is Video grabbing some RAM or another device or application?

Answer:Physical Memory after Upgrade 4.0 GB (Usable 2.46 GB)

I am experiencing the same issue -- it appears my ThinkCentere will only allow for 2.4GB usable.  BIOS shows 2.4GB, Windows 7 sees RAM installed @ 3.5GB and in parens ( 2.4GB usable ).  I tried swapping memory cards with same results. As for the video card, I have the motherboard video disabled thru Device Manager ( can not find in BIOS to disable it ) -- I am told Windows will reserve a certain amount of you have a separate video card, but not 1GB for a 500MB video card.   I will be watching this thread for an answer.

I own a A500 which worked perfectly so far. Today I experienced a problem I also found on few postings on the internet : A KeNotify box pops up saying that memory is running low. When I check the task manager I see that there is a lot of physical as well as virtual memory available. The pop-up cannot be dismissed unless I close KeNotify from the task manager. Unfortunately, I can't, for now, say under which circumstances this pop-up does appear but my bet is that a recent update (Windows update ?

Automatic Chrome update ?) is causing this problem. For the record, I have 8Gb of RAM installed and the OS is W7 64 bits.
I hope someone can help investigating this further or give a solution. I want to keep Kenotify installed (Toshiba Flashcards/FN keys).

Thanks in adavnce for the help.

Answer:Re: KeNotify generates low memory pop-up on Satellite A500

If you reboot the notebook, does it make any difference?

If not, try updating the Toshiba Value Added Package from the Toshiba website.

Doing a System Restore may also help.

Win7 gives SAMSUNG R620 DDR2-800 *6.2 POINT*
But it gives to my laptops memory *only 5.9* which is DDR3

So I looked RAM speeds with everest program and get shocked..it says my ram frequency is running at *73 mhz* (DDR speed). lol..
Updated BIOS to latest version but nothing changed.

This is ridiculous. What does it mean?

I took screenshot from everest you can look it from here:

Hi,

Here's the situation:

I have a Toshiba satellite M100-126 (PSMA1E - 0PV021FR) running Windows 7 32bit.
It originally had 2gigs of Ram, but after my brother's laptop broke down (motherboard failure) I took his 2x2gig ram and installed them in my laptop.

At first, the BIOS only detected 3gig, so I flashed the bios using the one recommended by Toshiba Download center, i.e. v 3.0 , direct link http://support.toshiba-tro.de/tools/eula/calleula.asp?ID=66238 (if it works). There is also a version 5.6, only for Windows Vista, but I did not use that one.

So now, the bios detects 4gigs, and so does Windows, but windows indicates "only" 3gigs of usable memory.
In Windows resource allocation, 1gig is "hardware reserved", so it's 3gig usable memory. If I replace one of the 2gig modules by a 1gig module, I get only 2mb of hardware reserved, and the 3 installed gigs of memory are usable...

Here are the questions, now:
I am aware of the memory limit for 32bit systems, and that I won't be able to use the full 4gigs anyway, but my brother got 3.5 gigs of usable memory on his 32bit system... Is it

Answer:Satellite M100-126 - Win 7 32bit indicates "only" 3GB of usable memory

Hi

Win 32bit can allocate only 3.2GB (not 3.5GB)
This is the limitation of all 32bit operating systems.
I don?t see any problems here? the BIOS detects 4GB RAM. That?s ok.
The Windows can use 3GB only because the other part is used by graphic card.

The GPU can share a part of the main memory too and this depends also on the available main memory.

Hi there,

I upgrade my Satellite P200 (PSPBGA-01W015) to Windows 7 x64 however I got problem with memory, Windows says: Installed memory 4GB (3GB usable).

In Resource Monitor say Hardware Reserved 1026MB

When I check Graphic Adapter properties, it says: NVIDIA GeForce Go 7600 with Dedicated Memory 256MB, Shared System Memory 1279MB, Total Graphics Memory 1535MB.

I guess the graphic card occupies that 1GB memory but there no options anywhere that I can adjust that shared memory (both in Bios setup and in Windows).

The only Bios version I can find on Australia Toshiba support site for my model is "BIOS Version/Date TOSHIBA V1.70, 21/08/2007" which is actually only supported Windows Vista.

Not sure if I can find similar Bios version at Toshiba Europe website? Last time when I upgraded my computer to Windows 7, support staff advised me to Europe website as well, but the similar model in Euro market named differently. Now I don't remember which Europe model match with my laptop Australia model.

It seems Toshiba Australia support website not always been well updated. :(

Thanks very much if any have any solution for this. Would be appreciated.

Cheers
Anthony

You are right?. The part of the main memory is used by graphic card but you cannot assign the part of the memory manually? this is controlled by graphic card driver.
If the running application like game needs some more graphic memory, the driver assigns this automatically.

I've buyed a Satellite P30-154.
It have 512MB of memory inside.

I've buyed also 2GB of expanded memory (2 1GB modules).

I've removed 512MB of memory from PC, and i've mounted 2GB.
When i've restarted windows the system is crashed!

After i've tried to use only 1,5GB of memory (1GB module +512MB module) and the Operating System isn't crashed.

I've repeated the test using the other 1GB module of memory and the sistem did not crashed again.

I suppose that the bought 1GB modules are not broken.

Do you have any suggestion?

Answer:Satellite P30-154: System crashed after memory upgrade

Hello

Your unit can handle with 2048MB of RAM and there should not be problem. Have no proper explanation. It is just possible that those modules are not 100% compatible. Tested memory module with this unit is 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G).

Hi, everyone,
I have upgraded my system from 2G to 4G(2 X 2G). I am using the windows 7 64 bit ultimate version. The laptop is hp dv6500z.
The problem is: from the system information, it say "4G installed (2G usable)".
Can any one tell me how to fix this?

Originally, I use 2X1G pc2-5300 memory, and I am using 2*2G pc2-6400 memory. But it is said to support the pc2-6400 memory from the RAM Memory Upgrade: Dell, Mac, Apple, HP, Compaq. USB drives, flash cards, SSD at Crucial.com. (Otherwise, none of the sticks should be recognized.)
Quoted as:
""Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-6400,DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot"

The status of my laptop is as follows:

Chipset: nVidia nForce 630M
Drive Form Factor: 2.5"
Drive Interface: SATA
Maximum Memory: 4096MB
Slots: 2 (2 banks of 1)
Standard Memory: 1024 or 2048MB removable
USB Support: 2.x Compliant

I put 2 stick into the slots. , why?

Answer:4G memory installed 2G usable 64bit system

HelloGreeting, i have a problem that after some search i came in conclusion that my Lenovo B475 need to update the BIOS because the memory problem. I have 4 GB installed but only 1.47 usable. After some look on Resource Monitor on Windows 7 Home Premium 32bit, i found that the 2568 MB Physical Memory has become memory that Hardware Reserved. This is the BIOS problem and need to update so these 2568 can be fully identified and use.BUT, when i looking in this site for the BIOS Update, it said that B475 doesnt required to BIOS update so there is nothing to update for my Laptop. But there are B475e, there are BIOS update for it. And when i search for update bios "HGCN11WW", my laptop's bios. THere is nothing found in this site. This is obviously the bios problem but lenovo doesnt have it, the bios updater for my "LENOVO Sabine Lenovo B475" Laptop. So, is there any solution for my Lenovo? T^T is so cruel that my 2568 MB Physical Memory cannot be used......

Answer:Need Update BIOS my Lenovo B475 Because Memory 4GB Memory only usable 1.47 GB.

Hello, it's common problem in Lenovo B475 and from my experience not all RAM are compatible for this series so make sure to try defferent kind of RAM about 8 ICs (Integrated Circuit) or 16 ICs, some manufacturer have both different IC. (Ask the shop that you bought to change the RAM with defferent amount IC) May this solve your problem, and have a nice day sir!

HiI have installed 32gb to my W520 but Windows says it has 31.9Gb. Where does those 100mb go? I don't know why, but it bothers me to see that. What do I have to do to see just 32.00Gb??Also, when I open the ThinkVantage Tools, in System Information it says that the Installed Memory is 32Gb and the Maximum Supported Memory is 16Gb. Do I really have my 32Gb working?Another question. Before my upgrade, my pagefile.sys was 12gb, and now is 31.89gb (curious, almost same value as Windows says). I was wondering if I could custom size it to 2gb because I have enough memory. Thanks for the help and excuse my english, im from Peru =).

W520: i7-2760QM, 1920x1080 FHD, 32GB RAM, Nvidia Quadro 2000M, Samsung 830 128GB SSD, 320GB HDD, Color Sensor, Intel N6300

Answer:Memory installed, usable memory? Heelp W520 with 32Gb

Thinkvantage should show 32GB as max supported, because it is. If it wasn't, windows wouldn't support it. as for the pagefile, that is set by right clicking computer, going to properties(A.K.A Control Panel > System and Security > System), then clicking Advanced system settings on the left side of that window( last item in the list on the left side) Then clicking settings under the Performance header( first header), Then going to the advanced tab and selecting Change under virtual memory. That should allow you to change it. I guess windows has virtual memory(Page file) and the hibernation file I believe, set to the same size as the RAM. as for the missing ram, It goes to the iGPU. My W530 with 16GB shows 15.8GB available because the iGPU/dGPU Optimus setup takes some RAM for overhead.

The laptop was originally supplied with only 512 MB RAM.

I have installed 1 GB of Kingston RAM (part no. KTT533D2/1G) into the remaining free memory slot. However, every time I switch on the computer, the system freezes up within a few minutes and I have to re-boot.

Is this because there is an uneven amount of memory in the 2 slots? Do I need to have 512 MB in each slot or 1 GB in each slot etc?

I would appreciate your advice.

Hello

I have Toshiba Satellite L755-161 and Windows 7 32bit installed (for quite some time) - when checking My Computer properties I can see that from 8GB of RAM only 2.74GB are usable.

Is this a normal value for usable memory?
Would this change depending on the additional software installed or would this only depend on hardware?
Would this value change (hopefully increase) if I reinstall my Windows 7?

Second thing:
Would it be possible/wise to upgrade to Windows 10?
Are all necessary drivers for Windows 10 released and where can they be safely downloaded?

Thanx in advance.

I recently did a new install of Windows 7 64 bit. I noticed windows showed 4Gb of ram (2.75Gb usable). I read tons of articles after googling this and tried several options to free up some more ram.

I have 2 options in bios to change memory remapping over 4GB. S/W and H/W.

When I enable S/W remapping, windows boots everything seems fine but I get a crackling sound from speakers. Bios shows 4Gb (3Gb usable). Windows shows 4Gb ram (3.0 available).

When I enable H/W remapping, windows BSOD during boot, but bios shows 4Gb ram and all 4 Gb available.

So, does anyone have any suggestions as to how to eliminate the BSOD after enabling H/W memory remapping? Try installing Windows 7 again? I read some people saying bump up the voltage on ram perhaps? I've never done any overclocking, but would try if someone thinks it may help.

I've tried several different setting. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:4Gb memory (2.75 Gb usable) memory remapping in bios causes BSOD

This sounds almost like a bios memory compatibility issue to me.
Have you tried checking the ram in both modes using memtest?
RAM - Test with Memtest86+
Since the memory is obviously the center of this I think it bares testing.
Keep in mind you'll need several passes each way with memtest to get any kind of accurate result and will take some time

I've noticed my memory is sky rocketing up to the 90%s when gaming or idle. I checked my specs and have realized only 6.6gb is usable. I was wondering if anyone had a fix to this? Thanks.

Answer:Windows 10 6.6gb memory usable out of 16gb memory.

Moire info needed.

Make/model of system board/computer.

What does your BIOS show? At first glance it appears you have shared memory, typically this is a laptop setup and if memory allocated to video less available to the system.

I have an ASUS P5VD2-X motherboard with 4GB of RAM installed in 2 x 2GB DDR2 configuration. When I boot up the BIOS tells me that I have 4096MB memory installed and 2495 usable memory. If I take out individual sticks of RAM and install them in either socket the BIOS states installed 2048MB, usable 2047MB.I understand that there may be times where video memory overlaps with the installed RAM and therefore reduces the amount available to the OS but my graphics card only has 512MB RAM. Worst I would therefore expect is to see 3.5GB usable. Where has the rest gone?

Answer:Installed memory vs. Usable memory

Hmmm. Your manual is not very helpful here. All I can find is a simple comment 'Due to chipset resource allocation, the system may detect less than 4 GB system memory when you install 2two 2Gb DDR2 memory modules'. I also know that, if you are working with XP Pro you will only be able to use some 3 GB of RAM in any case. You might like to post you query additionally with ASUS click here

Just as the topic looks, that's what I'm having an issue about right now. Now, lets begin by laying some different things out on the line. 1) I used search, 2) I used Google, 3) I even tested this on different machines (will explain below), and 4) I put this in the right forum... I hope..

Ok, I work in an office and I got an agent to come to me to help them install Java. Knowing he ran Windows 7 - Home Premium, I checked the System menu for what version OS he was running. I noticed 64bit, but couldn't help to notice that he had 3GB installed (2.75 being used)... Right away this through up a red flag because I thought that Home Premium 64bit was able to fully use every bit of installed memory up to 16GB. Acer is the manufacturer of the laptop, so I don't know if they might have something messed up in the BIOS or if it is simply because he got it about a week after Windows 7 was released.

The reason that I am fearing this is because I have a custom built desktop that is currently running 4GB (3.25 usable) of the Windows 7 RC Ultimate 32bit, so I know that I'm only going to get about that much out of my RAM. However; because it is soon time to reformat, I have a Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit CD + Key waiting to be used, and another 4GB of memory to be installed. I don't want to have an issue when reinstalling that I'm going to be missing any bit of RAM being used either just because I'm using Home Premium or any other reason.

Answer:Installed Memory (Usable Memory)

Hello Joshgt2, and welcome to the forums

Theoretically 64bit can address 128GB of RAm , although Motherboards typically do not support such amounts yet.

Certain chipsets (Such as AMD) using built in graphics, will use a certain amount of RAM dedicated to graphics only.
(naturally it pulls this dedicated graphics memory from you installed RAM)

So if it is set dedicate say, 512Mb in the bios, and you have 4GB of RAM installed...

In Windows you would see something like 4Gb installed (3.5 useable)

By the same token, if you have 8GB installed, it would show 8GB installed (7.5 useable)

If you install a actual graphics card, and disable the onboard, you will gain full use of your RAM again, As a graphics card has its very own memory onboard.

hope this answers your question

3. Currently, I have everything taken out of the case with only the motherboard, CPU, HSF, and PSU hooked up.
4. I have tried both sticks of RAM seperately in each slot.
5. I have tried resetting the CMOS.
6. I was careful to constantly touch the grounded PSU before I touched sensitive pieces.
7. I made sure all connections were secure, and everything was in its proper place.

I have a Satellite L30-11D and I am wanting to upgrade the memory modules in it, I have found this;

Part Number: PA3411S-2M1G
1024MB (1GB) Memory PC2-4300 DDR2 (533MHz)

and it will work but im unsure on this - can you have more than one plugged into my laptop?

Please help!!!

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite L30

Of course you can do more then one memory module. On your Satellite notebook there are two slots available and you can put two memory modules. Your notebook can handle with max 2 GB of RAM.

According the notebook specification you should have now 512 MB of RAM. New 1GB module put in place where is now placed 512 MB module and old one put into empty slot.

If you need more assistance please write again.

I wonder if there are any ram upgrade for my A40-221 notebook. Non of our stores here in my area which sells Toshiba has it, and when i ask I only get the message that they don't have ram to my notebook because it's to old. So Im at loss....

Thank you in advance.

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite A40-221

Here you go. You can upgrade your notebook to a maximum amount of 2GB ram. You can buy this ram nearly everything. Just make sure it has the following specifications:

200-Pin PC2100 (266MHz) DDR SODIMM

Would suggest you buy 2x1GB modules for your machine to give it a nice performance boost.

I have upgraded an A60 Pro with a 1GB memory up but the Control Panel /System/ General tab still shows it as having 192MB RAM. This limits me downloading some Security Software from BT Yahoo.

Can anyone advise on how I can make the machine recognise the new RAM or is the 192 MB RAM noted different memory from the new memory upgrade?

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite Pro A60

If you use non-compatible RAM module it is logic that system can not recognize it correctly. I do not know who is the manufacturer of this 1 GB RAM module but if you want to use compatible one pick up some info about PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G) or check Kingston web page.

Hi,

I have a Satellite Pro R50-B-12u with 4Gb of RAM.
I have purchased an additional 4Gb RAM stick but cannot see how you fit it.

My last Satellite Pro had a memory flap on the back but all I can see on the back is about 20 screws but no flap!

Can somebody please help me or point me in the right direction?

Thanks in anticipation.

Wozza

Answer:Satellite Pro R50-B-12U and memory upgrade

Hi

The Satellite R50 does not contain separate memory bay.
The memory modules and slots are hidden under the bottom cover.

In order to get access to the modules, the bottom cover has to be removed.
But I would not recommend doing this because this would cancel the warranty!!!

I guess your warranty is still valid and in such case only authorized technician should perform such upgrade to keep the warranty valid.

I have Satellite m70-159 with 512 RAM and want to upgrade memory.
Is kingston ddr2 sdram so-dimm PC5300, 667Mhz 1G memory compatible with my notebook?
I know that this memory will run as PC4200, but I don't know where to buy PC4200.
Thanks.

Answer:Re: Satellite M70-159 memory upgrade

The Satellite M70 can be upgraded to 2GB RAM.

The Kingston RAM should be compatible with your notebook because Kingston makes high quality RAM and a lot of users here upgraded it with Kingston modules.
And as you said the RAM will run as PC4200, this is no problem.

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite A50-104

Hi

You have several ways to find out what memory module is compatible and supported.
You can use a diagnostic too like ?Everest?, you will check the user manual or the Toshiba website for details or you will contact the service in your country for supported modules.

I will try to answer the question: The Satellite A50 should support PC2700 DDR-RAM like these parts:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

Now it?s your choice. You can also google for the offers

I have a Satellite L30-134 which appears to be running quite slowly - I think due to large amount of photos and itunes music.

I am wondering which is the easiest way to resolve - buy a memory upgrade (no idea how to change the memory though) or get an external hard drive?
And if I change the memory will I lose what is already saved on the laptop?

Answer:Memory upgrade for Satellite L30-134

Sure you can improve performance by upgrading your notebooks memory. The maximum amount of your notebook is 2GB and if you want to buy memory modules, make sure the following specifcations are present:

DDR2 533MHz (PC2-4200) 200-PIN SODIMM

An external HDD won't improve performance but keeps your data safe, if you have to reinstall your system. For me, it is best way to store pictures, music videos and stuff like that.

But there are other things to make your machine faster. Depending on your operating system, there are several guides around the internet.

I want Kingston RAM but I can't find on the kingstonmemory website. And I don't know the maximum I can use.

Answer:Satellite P30-143 - Need memory to upgrade the RAM

Hi Johann

Well, regarding the user manual you can upgrade the RAM up to 2GB. That means you can put in 1GB module in each memory slot.

The new RAM should have the following specification: DDR-RAM PC2700 (DDR333)
Normally you should find such RAM modules on the Kingston website because I bought DDR-RAM PC2700 last year from Kingston for my older notebook and it works perfectly.

By the way: In the user manual of Satellite P30 you can find useful instructions how to upgrade the RAM.

According the specification you need PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51) RAM module. Please bring your back and buy PA3164U-1M51. Those are tested and they should work properly.

Hello.

I want to upgrade my memory (one chip 256 DDR SoDiMM 333 Mhz PC2700 installed). If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two work together and is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip?
Thanks

Answer:Satellite A30 RAM memory upgrade

Hi

>If I add to the original 256Mb a 512Mb chip will the two works together?

Yes, both modules will work together. In such case you will have 768MB of main memory.

> is a 512 DDR SoDIMM with a frequency of 400 Mhz compatible with the laptop computer and 256Mb chip

This depends on the front side bus (FSB). As far as I know the A30 supports a 533Mhz FSB. So the 512MM module should run with full 400Mhz speed.

But note; if the 256MM memory module supports only 333Mhz then the faster 512MB module will also run with 333Mhz. The 256MB module will make the second, faster module slower.

I need a few recommendations :-

1) Best 80GB drive to buy.
2) I want to upgrade my memory, who's can I use? (2048MB is the target)
3) Can the modular 2nd drive adaptors still be bought
4) Do the adaptors only let you add an 2.5 inch drive?

Also, anyone got any views on how the P20 (mine has a 3.2 GHZ processor) will handle Vista? I think the graphics card may be a little wussy.

Also, how does the P20 compare with current machines?

Answer:Memory upgrade on Satellite Pro A40

Hi

On the Satellite Pro A40 you will find 2 memory slots and you can upgrade the memory to max 2GB (2x1024MB)

It should be possible to use these modules:
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)
PC2100 1GB (PA3278U-1M1G)

And

PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G

I purchase the compatible parts and devices always form the Toshiba service partner in my country because so I'm 100% sure that this parts are compatible.

Answer:Satellite Pro L10 Memory Upgrade

Hi Luis,

The specification for your notebook indicates that it can accept up to 1,024 Mb RAM. If you have 2 RAM slots then you can use any combination of RAM modules as long as you do not exceed the quoted maximum. Obviously if you only have 1 RAM slt then you must remove the original 256Mb module before inserting you new 512Mb one.

I have a Toshiba L40-15G with 1GB DDR2 ram (2x512MB). It works at a frequency of 266Mhz.
I want to upgrade to 2GB of ram by going 2x1GB sticks or a 2GB stick.

However, i don't know if the 2GB stick will be accepted on one slot.
Should i buy a 2GB stick or 2 1GB sticks?

And, can the frequency of the new sticks be higher? like 800Mhz/500Mhz?

Message was edited by: Ruixituh

Answer:Memory Upgrade on Satellite L40-15G

Hi

The memory module frequency depends on the chipsets FSB (front side bus)
If the FSB is limited to 266Mhz then your modules will run only with 266Mhz even the modules would support a faster speed.

As far as I know the notebook supports the Intel GL960 Express Chipset.
This chipset handles max 2Gb RAM so you could use only 2 x 1GB RAM modules.

I thing the chipset will handle 533Mhz

I have recently installed Vista Ultimate on my Satellite M60 Laptop, it is activated and updated but I think it is short on memory. I have two 512 banks of memory and have bought two 1gb memory chips from crucial to install instead of the 512 banks.
Question is, I can find one bank under a lid on the bottom of the laptop but no other, where abouts is it situated and how do I access it?

If both memory slots are not placed under the memory cover (bottom side) one of them is usually placed under the keyboard. To access it you must remove the plastic cover placed over the keyboard and after doing this the keyboard itself.

Hi

normally You don't need to bother with brands, MHz'es and stuff like that. If You point out that You want to buy either (recommended) Toshiba original memory option for that model, or a f.ex. use a Kingston 3rd party memory - You just have to say "I have this model, give me a 256, 512 or whatever memory".
It will then work perfect in Your system along with any memory You already have.

The notebook doesn?t boot after the memory upgrade due to these different issues;

- memory modules are not compatible together
- memory modules are not compatible with the notebook
- memory modules are faulty
- one of memory slots is faulty

In most case the memory module replacement helps.

One hint; did you try to switch the memory modules in the slots? Sometimes this helps.
Several weeks ago I have updated my memory and the notebook didn?t boot.
I thought it?s a memory malfunction but after module switching the notebook booted correctly.

Good luck

Hey all

I want to do a memory upgrade on my Toshiba Satellite L20-181.
Now i have 256MB and i want to add another 256MB memory stick.
Could you please inform me about the type of memory this laptop has?
On the site it says:
System memory standard : 256 MB
maximum expandability : 2,048 MB
technology : DDR2 RAM

DDR2???
A link with such memory would be very helpful.
Also any way to buy online memory?

Best Regards

Answer:Satellite L20-181 memory upgrade

Hi

The info that you have is absolutely right. Toshiba has tested this notebook with follow memory modules:
DDR2-400/533 256MB (PA3389U-1M25)
DDR2-400/533 512MB (PA3412U-1M51)

As you can see it is DDR2 memory module and if you use part number (PA?.) at the Google you will find a lot of online offereor where you can order this tested memory. I recommend you to buy original one or maybe Kingston module. On this way you will be sure that new module will be recognized properly.

Good luck!

Answer:Satellite Pro A10 memory upgrade

Hi

I have investigated a little bit on the Toshiba pages and I have found a short information:
This unit supports PC2100 DDR ram modules. In this case you can use this Toshiba recommended memory modules:
PC2100 128MB (PA3126U-1M12)
PC2100 256MB (PA3127U-1M25)
PC2100 512MB (PA3164U-1M51)

Hi, I have a Satellite Pro A60 PSA65E which currently has 192mb RAM and Celeron 2.8GHz CPU.

My problem came when I tried to install Adobe Creative Suite 2 onto it but it wouldnt allow me to do this as it needed 384 mb RAM to run it. I was wondering if somebody could tell me which RAM upgrade is compatible with my machine and whether it slots into another port or if I have to take the old one out and replace it?

Thank you

Answer:What Memory Upgrade should I buy for my Satellite Pro A60?

Hi,

your notebook has 256MB internal memory, I'm not sure why it shows only 192MB. This internal memory can only be replaced by a service technician. But you also have a currently unused memory slot, in which you can place a maximum of 1024MB RAM.

Here are the modules from Toshiba you can use:
PC2700 256MB (PA3311U-1M25)
PC2700 512MB (PA3312U-1M51)
PC2700 1024MB (PA3313U-1M1G)

I have Satellite A60 and I want to update the memory from 256MB to 1GB

Please can I do it?

Answer:Memory upgrade to 1GB RAM on Satellite A60

Good news for you. It is possible to upgrade your notebook to a maximum of 1,2GB of RAM.
Just make sure you buy one module with this specifiactions:

1 GB - SO DIMM
333 MHz / PC2700

You will have to buy one 1GB module, because you have only one slot available. The 256MB are onboard.

Question: Usable memory

hello, i have recently been having some problems with my "usable memory". it started when i increased the virtual memory to 10.5 GB, now i get the message that i have 6 GB installed physical memory but 5.25 usable memory, i have tried going in to change the virtual memory, i erase the current amount than reboot, it says i have 6 GB virtual memory, but it still shows 5.25 GB usable. system information says

installed physical memory 6.00GB
Total physical memory 5.25 GB
available physical memroy 3.56GB
total virtual memory 10.5GB
available virtual memory 8.63GB
page file space 5.25GB

i am using windows 7 64bit. i guess im using RAM for the video card. is there anyway i can reset the usable memory back to 6GB? thanks

Answer:Usable memory

If you use onboard video ... then you share your main memory for your Video... You cannot back to 6GB unless you buy a seperate video... an dyou can reduce the memory size for Video in teh BIOS...

I bought two OptiPlex 5040 computers around July of 2016. One is a Desktop and the other is a SFF. They are both running Windows 7 Pro.
They have both been slower than I thought they should be and just figured out that while they came with 8 GB of RAM installed, only 2.46 GB is usable ON BOTH. I went into the BIOS and it shows 8 GB available.
One is a computer I use every day and the other is one that gets little use yet they both have the same memory problems.
Please help.

I am trying to upgrade the memory of my toshiba satellite m55-s135 and recently baught a kingston 1 gb ddr2 pc2-5300 chip, however, when I went to install it the chip wouldn't fit into the slot. It seems that the little peg sticking out of the socket and the corresponding recess in the ship don't align.

Does anyone know of a brand of memory which is known to work with Toshibas? Or perhaps what I'm doing wrong?

I could physically force the chip in but I would have to bend one of the memory clips to do it and I would rather just buy a new chip.

Thanks for your help.

Hi, new to this forum.
I tried to find a direct contact to ask this, but could not locate any email options on the website, only phone numbers, which aren't an option right now as I have other obligations during business hours at the moment.

I'm a computer technician of 30 years and have today purchased a new Satellite Pro R50-C PS566A-004001 with an i7-5500U, 8GB of RAM and 1TB HDD Notebook for a customer of mine. He has requested an additional 8GB of RAM, which I purchased at the same time from my wholesaler. On opening the box I discovered there is no access to the memory slots or the Hard Drive. The Toshiba Website states in the specs that the RAM is expandable to 16GB, but it appears the back cover has to be fully removed to gain access. I would like to check if I remove the back cover will this void the warranty. The specifications on the Toshiba website do not state that it is not user accessible to change the RAM, where as from the research I did for the customer, other cheaper models do state this. I have sold Toshiba and other brands Notebooks in the past and have always ensured that the specifications for the laptop did not say the RAM was non user accessible, and as such that I would be able to upgrade the RAM as customers request.

As above, I just wish to check that upgrading the RAM on this laptop will not void the Toshiba warranty, since the specifications do state that the laptop is expandable to 16GB of RAM, and do not state that it is not user accessible/u... Read more

Hi there

I own Satellite P200 17c. My current memory is DDR2 PC2-5300 2gb. I would like to upgrade it to DDR2 PC2-6400 4gb ram. Can i do that and is there going to be some improvement of the speed if I upgrade to PC2-6400 instead PC2-5300?

On my P200 17c I have 2 HDDs. 2x100gb. I would like to upgrade one of those two HD from 100gb to 320gb 5400 rpm. Can i do that? and is it going to be some difference if I upgrade with HD that has 7200 rpm?

Thank you

Answer:HDD and memory upgrade on Satellite P200-17C

First of all: your machine is able to handle a maximum RAM capacity of 4GB but please be aware that you won?t be able to use the full 4GB due to some chipset limitations which are explained in the following article: http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB82022E0000R01.htm

Regarding the module speed: the chipset specifications are defined for PC5300, so it will not enhance your speed when installing faster modules.

If you would like to upgrade your harddisk then just do it like you want, because there shouldn?t be any limitations, you can install a drive with 7200rpm together with a slower one.

The only difference will be that the faster drive will be faster. The whole system performance would only raise when you?re installing your OS on the faster drive (which is recommendation from my side :) )

Answer:Satellite P70-A-125 - 16GB memory upgrade

Hi

According notebook specification you can upgrade your notebook up to 32GB.

Compatible RAM modules have follow part numbers:
4GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M4G
8GB DDR3-1600 - PA5037U-1M8G

I strongly recommend you to use these tested and 100% compatible modules. I have very good experience with Kingston modules. They cost maybe a bit more but they are recognized properly and work without any problems.
Use part numbers and check the specification and prices.

PC133 128MB (PA3085U-1M12)

Hi

This depends on the chipset which is installed in your notebook.

The notebook with the Intel GM965 chipset supports max 4GB RAM but the A300 with the Intel GL960 supports max 2GB RAM.

So check your chipset and you will known if theRAM can be upgraded up to 3GB or 4GB.

Please can anyone assist with providing some insight or details regarding memory upgrade options for a Satellite L350 - 107 laptop

According to the Toshiba spec sheets this unit can only be upgraded to a maximum of 2gb RAM - There are web sites that advise that this unit can take a maximum of 4Gb RAM..... Can this unit be upgraded to 4GB RAM and if so, how is it done? I have installed 4Gb RAM into the unit and the BIOS recognises the RAM during the POST. Windows starts to load and then crashes.....

The unit is a Satellite L350 - 107, Model number PSLD0E - 00500TF3

Many thanks

Answer:Satellite L350 - 107 Memory Upgrade

Hi

Generally speaking the memory upgrade depends on the chipset which is placed on the motherboard.
The Satellite L350 ? 107 has been supplied with the Mobile Intel GL960 Express Chipset and this chipset handles max 2GB RAM
This means that you can upgrade the RAM to max 2GB RAM using the PC2-5300 Memory Modules.

Hi,

that your system can use up to 512, does not include that it is compatible with all brands. Check your compatibility in your manuel. Kingston has memory available for almost every system, they have a search engine at their site, check it out.

Try to put your original memory back, and check if the system posts. If it does, then you new memory is not compatible with your system or it is damaged.
