How to Restore an Satellite A300 PSAGOE?

Question: How to Restore an Satellite A300 PSAGOE?

Sorry if this is in the wrong place or has been answered, but a friend of mine would like me to restore her Satellite A300, the only info she can give me is that it runs on Vista and that it is a psagoe 03uo1yen.

She has no discs for this laptop at all. She has purchased a memory pad so that I can do a backup of her laptop before I start anything on it.
My question is this, will she lose Vista and/or any drivers with a system restore? I was hoping to restore it to 'out of the box', but realise this may not be possible.

Thank you in advance of any information you can provide or advice you may have.

Preferred Solution: How to Restore an Satellite A300 PSAGOE?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to Restore an Satellite A300 PSAGOE?

Hello Carla and welcome on Toshiba forum

At first I must say that ?out of the box? state can be done with original recovery disc and if you don?t have it that can be problematic.
If this notebook runs with original preinstalled Vista there is maybe possibility to do this using HDD recovery option.

It works as described on this Toshiba document -
Please check this option.

At the end I must say that I was not able to identify this notebook model and give you more info so please be so nice and post here exact model number (PAxxx-xxxxx) and model name (A300-xxx).
Both numbers you can find at the bottom on Toshiba sticker.

If you have more questions let us know.

I recently installed windows 7, drivers were auto found and I installed just to be safe chip set, display, sound, blue tooth and card driver.
What happens is when I play dota the graphic is generally slow and have some blinking of screen during the game. I have on other partition windows xp and it works just fine.

Tell me is there anything special I can do, or drivers I can instal in order to have better performance? And what I don't see is second display device. Operating mode is single display?

Please help.

Answer:Satellite A300 (PSAGOE) - Screen blink and it's slow

Does this mean you have only problems with this certain game?
To be honest this game is not known to me so have you checked if it?s compatible to Windows 7? Some older games are not compatible or you have to run it in compatibility mode.

Otherwise make sure that the latest display driver from the official Toshiba website is installed and update your DirectX version.

Which Windows 7 version you have installed?

I have a problem with my Toshiba.
When i play dota or any other game my pc starts to heat up to much.

If i dont put on something so coller is couple of cm from the table it shut downs itself.
And Laptop is hot in that stage.

Any tips beacuse i play on line and always shut downs in the middle of the game?

Answer:Satellite A300 PSAGOE shuts down itself playing Dota

What do you think about cleaning the notebook if your notebook is overheating? I mean the notebook shuts down itself due higher internal temperature and this is ok because otherwise the hardware you be damaged.
So in this case the notebook must be cleaned.

Therefore you can use compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators and you must not disassemble the notebook. You can buy it from a computer store fore example and I recommend reading this Toshiba link:

I had to replace the hard drive on my laptop Satellite Pro A300. Before that, I successfully made a complete computer backup with Windows Complete PC backup. Now I would like to restore the entire computer from the backup, but I have at this problem:
When the computer restarts I press F8 key and select Repair My Computer, and in the System Recovery Options, I click on the Windows Complete PC Restore. Then the window appears for the selection of available backups. When I click the Next button, I get the following message:
"To restore your computer, Windows needs to format the disk that Windows Recovery Enviroment is currently running on. Boot your computer from a Windows installation disc or a recovery disc to try again."

I don't have a Windows installation disc. When I boot my computer from the rescue disc and press F8 key in Advanced boot option, I don't see te option Repair My Computer.

Does anyone know, how can I restore my computer?

Answer:How to restore my Satellite Pro A300?

I don't know what really happens in your computer but it's a little bit difficult to restore without Windows installation disk. On another computer, you can download and install Acronis true image and activate it. In Acronis, there is an option ,, Convert Windows backup copy to Acronis backup,,. You convert it. Then, create Acronis bootable rescue media onto disk. The converted Acronis backup, you can place on usb flash drive or burn dvd disks. Insert, Acronos bootable media, browse the backup and restore.\

It's a little bit difficult to explain everything, but in your case, it's better to get windows copy and make a clean installation

Hi, I have Satellite A300-1AL with Windows Vista Home Premium
I've bought this laptop with no recovery disk. Currently C drive is messed up(failed to install windows XP), How can I restore system from a pre-installed system on a hidden partition?

Answer:How to restore disk on Satellite A300-1AL

Try holding down the Zero key when turning on the laptop.

On my laptop, I need to time it properly, like this:

1) Hold 0 key
2) Turn on laptop
3) Release 0 key when the Toshiba logo appears

If the recovery partition is already gone, you can order a recovery disc from Toshiba

My computer freezes for a sec or 2 every so often and from Toshiba support I was told that it might be a software issue. I don't think so, because it started on the day I bought the laptop and the display driver keeps on stop working, but because I was told that if it's a software issue.
I would have to pay for it, I want to try everything before I send it for repair. Therefore I would like to restore my Satellite into its original state as it was just when I bought it.

So basically I have 2 questions:

1. Does anyone have an idea why it keeps freezing on me? And what I should try to do to fix it?
2. Can anyone tell me how to restore the laptop to its original state?

Thank you very much, Dina

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - How to restore the original state?

You should of had restore disk come with the computer if not you can make them from the toshiba restore disk utitly.

Make or use restore disk

Boot from restore disk folow on screen prompts to factory reset. should be straight forward.

Hi ..

my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.

I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?

If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?

Please this is urgent.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

To be honest I?m confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friend?s notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I don?t understand what you mean exactly.

But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. It?s very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.

So that?s all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you don?t have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

I made a big mistake two years ago. I installed windows 7 on my Satellite A300-1QD but on the notebook was Windows Vista installed and I did no recovery disk, but I have the original serialnumber of it.

Are there any possibilities to get Windows Vista back on the notebook without to buy an new version of Windows Vista?

Answer:Satellite A300-1QD - How to restore preinstalled Vista?

If you don?t have a recovery disk you must order such a disk from Toshiba directly to restore preinstalled Windows Vista with all drivers and tools (factory settings):

But it?s not for free? As far as I know it costs ~30 Euros.

So I don?t understand why you didn?t create the recovery disk yourself. Everything is mentioned in user manual?

Hi everyone,

With my Toshiba nothing but problems. First I waited replacement screen for month cause there wasn?t any at warehouse. K, after that I downgraded to XP but driver are buggy, sound is poor, cant get USB2.0 to work, system is slower than Vista so I decided to return to Vista.

But of course, there is no DVD so I need to restore via HDD restore folder I have. But cool, Toshiba doesn't let me to download utility to create backup DVD. So what I can do? I have HDD Recovery folder, how to now create DVD without utility I was first given.

You can say it?s not Toshiba fault; you did that bla bla. Of course, but first I waited replacement screen, I wasn?t given original Vista DVD, I cant even download utility from Toshiba. What sad piece of equipment. I have experience, my first installed OS was DOS and Win95, numerous OS installation after that but this that I can install back my OS in 2009 I wouldn't hope its gonna happen.

Any ideas you good ppl

Answer:Satellite A300-1lT - I want restore Vista with the recovery option

Sorry buddy, but in this case you need a new recovery disk. The HDD Recovery folder is not useful for you because you don’t have Windows Vista yet and as you already know the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator can’t be downloaded.

So you must order a new disk from an authorized service provider or Toshiba directly:

To be honest this is not a problem of Toshiba. If you start the notebook at first time you get the following message and this should not be ignored:

+your system is equipped with hard disk recovery system. if you need to repair+
+your computer by restoring it to original factory state, you can do it directly+
+from harddisk (press F8 when you boot your computer, choose "Repair your computer"+
+and follow the menue instructions) or create a bootable Recovery Disc Medium for this purpose.+

+Toshiba recommends you to create Recovery Disc Medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator" to ensure+
+hat you are able to restore your computer to the original factory installed state, even if your computer+

The story so far...

Laptop failed (A300-1MC)

No recovery disk available
Replaced HDD
Installed Vista using borrowed recovery disk from earlier Toshiba Satellite model
Installed missing drivers => working system without valid product key
Connected old HDD using external usb enclosure
Launched original TRORDCLauncher on old drive - no errors

So now I apparently have 2 recovery DVDs.

Question: Will these DVD's restore to original system ?

The earlier Satellite had no TRORDCLauncher and came included with recovery disks

I wanted to use system restore due to attempting to reconfigure administrator rights, its somehow deleted all my shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things.

However when i try to use system restore (i have attempted to use it in safe mode, via cmd promp, both together and normal boot), yet all seem to stay hanging in the same green page where it reads something along the lines of 'system is initialising restore etc' (spending 45 mins on this page before i get fed up and shut down the computer). I have tried using different restore points but the same occurs. It like its not working at all.

Can anyone help with this please?

My laptop is a Satellite Pro A300-1A8.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1A8 Vista system restore not working

You mean the Vista tool which can be found in (Start button -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) does not work and you cannot set back the Vista to the early time point?

Well, usually there is no much to do? to restore the OS to the early time point you have to star the system restore tool and have to choose the restore point. Then everything should run automatically.
If this doesn?t work then something is messed up? as you said in your posting above somehow deleted all your shortcuts on my menu and messed about with a few things? possibly the OS has been messed to.

Try to clean the OS using the free software for example CCLeaner. I use it too. It?s great. Repair and clean the OS and check if it?s possible to use the system restore tool again.

I found also this MS page:

Hi all

My Satellite hard disk has *3 partitions* as in picture

In the partition E: there is a hiddn folder named "*hddrecovery*" with a lot of files and a redame file (.html) warns:
*"HDD Recovery Folder*
*Do not delete or modify these files and folders.*
*Any modifications may damage the HDD Recovery system! "*

Last time that I made the system recovery using the 2 DVDs (created at the first boot), it was also *deleted the "D:" partition with all data files*. I'm very disappointed for lose data :_|
Suggest me _how to make safely the system restore to factory state_ *without affecting the secondary partition and its files*.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Satellite A300 - How to restore the system without loss data partition?

As i know, restoring factory settings from Hdd image (F8) will remove all data on disk C:. Using recovery disks it will remove all data on local C: and local D : ( creating hdd image folder). If you have some important data move it to external usb device or dvd disks for any case. That's all I can suggest you

Hi all,

Is Satellite Pro A300-1NT (or Satellite Pro A300-1GT) eligible for adding a second hard drive?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1NT (Satellite Pro A300-1GT) -- second hard drive

Hmm?. As far as I know you cannot use an second HDD in this notebook.
There could be an second HDD bay but this would not mean that an usage of second HDD would be possible.

What you have to know is that A300 series has been equipped with different motherboards and not all mobos provides an second HDD controller.
If you want you could remove the cover secured the second HDD bay and could check if connectors are available.

If not then you cannot connect and use the second HDD.

Why does the Satellite A300-1EC stand dearer as Satellite A300-1EG, but on configuration loses him?

What is their substantial distinction in?
What model of notebook can advise, in this price range?

Answer:What is the difference between Satellite A300-1EC & Satellite A300-1EG

Satellite A300-1EC belongs to PSAG0E group and Satellite A300-1EC to PSAG4E. When this model numbers are different that means they don't have the same hardware configuration.

The first one has Intel 965GM (Crestline) graphic controller. The second one has ATI M82XT (256MB). The HDD capacity is not the same. The first one has 160 GB HDD and second one 250 GB.

So that is the difference between these A300 notebooks.

In my opinion the second one is better. You must make your decision and choose the right one.

At the moment I am here in France and I am planning to buy a Satellite Pro A300 with an AZERTY keyboard (which is not exactly a problem for me at the moment). The problem will begin when I come back to my country where the keyboard layout is QWERTY. I plan to sell the laptop when I get back (I don't like hanging on to a laptop for a very long time). The thing is the Satellite A300 is officially sold in my country but not the Satellite Pro A300. I am now wondering if the keyboard for the A300 is compatible with the Pro A300 (looking at the forum threads for older models suggest that they are compatible but I am not completely sure).

Can anyone provide a definitive answer to this compatibility question?

Answer:Are the keyboards of Satellite Pro A300 and Satellite A300 the same?

The keyboard button layout doesn?t depend from the Satellite Pro or Satellite series but from the country where the notebook has been purchased.

Different countries need different keyboard button layouts and therefore the buttons are assigned to different positions on the keyboard.

But the keyboard itself could be used in Sat Pro or Satellite notebook too.

Hi, i have a small problem with my A300 laptop. On the left bottom corner of the laptop it says the word Satellite. It always used to be lit up but now for some reason it doesn't. I didn't change any settings that made this happen. Did the light die on me already after less than 4 weeks? Or maybe there is a way to turn it on/off? It's obviously something small but it does irritate me.

Perhaps there is a Toshiba Utility or BIOS setting that can turn it back on.

I need some suggestion currently I have Toshiba Satellite A205 - S5841 which Dual Core 1.73 GHz.
I am planning to buy Toshiba Satellite A300-1EC which is Core 2 Duo 2.0 Ghz..

Tell me is it worth?

Answer:Need suggestions Satellite A205-S5841 and Satellite A300-1EC

Its your choice. Is the A200 too slow with the Applications you use? Do you need better 3D performance? Is photoshop taking too long to process images?

The A300 would have a faster graphics chip, faster memory, faster/larger HDD, better connectivity, possibly more memory, more features, a bit more CPU grunt.

Have a look at the specifications in the Brochure and decide if the faster components or features would benefit you. My friend has an A300 with face recognition (and FM radio I think!), its quite a good machine :)

What i'm supposed to do?

I mean that the l500 recognises the drive...please help me...

thanks in advance..

Answer:HDD swop from Satellite A300 to Satellite L500

Satellite A300 supports the same HDD like a Satellite L500. Both use the SATA HDD therefore the inserted HDD should work.
Its good sign, that the HDD is visible in BIOS. This means that HDD is recognized and in good condition.

I?m wondering what you have done after the HDD has been inserted.
Did you try to install the system using Toshiba recovery disk or another disk?
Did you try to format the HDD firstly?

Try to boot form the system disk and format the HDD firstly.
Then follow with system installation

The question is can i put in second HDD to Toshiba A300-1EG notebook, there is a place for one as I found, and what HDD should it be, i mean 2,5" and etc?

As I read, there can be no connection for HDD, all depends on model, how can I found out?

Answer:Can i put in second HDD into Satellite A300-1EG

You can check this yourself.
Remove the plastic cover which secures the second HDD bay.
If there are some HDD connectors then you could install an second HDD.
If the connectors are missing, then you will not be able to use second HDD.

I know it?s a little but confusing because of the second HDD bay but the point is that different A300 models supports different motherboards and not all motherboards are equipped with two HDD controllers.

In my Satellite A300 I have 2 HDDs inside:

- Toshiba MK2552GSX (250GB)
- WD WD2500BEVS (250GB)

Oh man, it takes me 10 minutes to check this. ;) Maybe you can pay a beer now. ;)
Put it in Google and you will find some online store where you can order them.

Of course you can buy HDDs with more capacity. I think HDDs up to 500 GB should not be problem.
Caddy? Huh das can be problematic. Check if you can find something on eBay, or you can try to call Toshiba service and ask if you can order it there.

So that means you can?t add a second HDD. That?s fact!!

The point is that all A300 models using the same case but if you can connect a second HDD it?s depending on the mainboard. This connector is fixed on it and so you can add such a connector.

I think you issue is related to a wrong keyboard language setting.
It seems your keyboard layout does not match with the language setting in the Control Panel -> ?Regional & Language Options?

Possibly you use an English *UK* layout instead of English *US* ?

Try to change this and check if it helps.

Hi everyone,

I have a question:
My Satellite A300-1MX has 4GB of RAM... now as I have WinXP professional, its only capable of 3GB...
but how come i only get to use 2GB... Probably because my graphics card uses 1GB.
How can I switch in how can i change the amount of RAM the Graphicscard uses?

I've been usin Adobe after effects, and in the memory & cache options it says that i have max. 2GB of ram...
I mean is this really possibe that i buy a laptop with 4GB and at the end use only 2!?!?
The graphicscard (3650) has 512 dedicated...but its usin 1GB.

I still shud have 2.5GB of RAM then if it wud be logical.

Can anyone help?

Thanks so much

Answer:Satellite A300-1MX - Get only to use 2GB

The Windows XP 32bit handles max 3.2GB RAM.
Only 3.2GB RAM are possible due to the 32bit OS limitation.

The ATI graphic card supports the Dedicated Video Memory and it shares the part of the main memory too.
But listen dude; everything is controlled automatically. This means that the graphic card driver assigns the needed memory parts.
If the memory is not needed then the graphic card driver does not assign any main memory parts to graphic card memory.

Hi all,

I'm wondering if it's possible to add a 2nd hard drive in my A300-02C?
There is a 2nd HDD slot, but no sata connector on the PCB (see picture link).

I'm wondering if it's possible to add the connector (by myself or by the toshiba customer service).
If someone knows if it's possible and where can i buy the sata connector... Please leave a comment :)

Answer:Can I add a 2nd HDD on my Satellite A300-02C?

I think there is nothing you can do about it.
Satellite A300 is delivered with several different hardware configurations and several different mainboards. I really don't believe you can add it additionally.

For exact info contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider and ask for help.

If someone has experience with this stuff then Toshiba service technicians.

I thought I was the happy owner of an A300: Intel 2x 2,66GHz, 4GB, 2x500GB HHD, ATI HD4650m 1GB, 17". Trying to find a SATA-driver for XP, I noticed that all Satellite A's have a short-serial format like PS_*A*_***. Mine is PS_*P*_CCE. According to the format system, that would implicate that it's a Satellite P series. But the label clearly states A300-23E. I also started doubting the info on the label, cause the XP SATA driver for the A300 doesn't include the Intel ICH9M-E/M AHCI, which -according to Vista's system management- is the controller used.

1: Have I got an A- or a P-series?

2: Is there an SATA-driver for XP available for my ICH9M-E/M controller?

Answer:Do I really have Satellite A300?

Satellite A300-23E belongs to the PSAGCE series.
So at the bottom of the unit you should see the model number for example like this one: PSAGCE-0CN00JRU

If your model number begins with PSPCCE-xxxxxxxx then this is not A300 but P300.

The SATA drivers for Satellite P300 series are placed in Intel Robson package!
(folder -> Winall\driver)
You can find it on the Toshiba European driver page!

Can anyone help me with the procedures on how to permanently delete Vista Home Premium and replace it with Windows XP Professional?
Once WinXP Pro is installed, will the drivers for my laptop Satellite A300-15D still work because of the new operating system?

Answer:Re: How to install Win XP on a Satellite A300-15D

If you want to replace the Vista with your Windows XP OS then just simply boot from the Windows XP CD and follow the installation instruction on the screen.

After the XP OS installation you will have to visit the Toshiba European driver page and will need to download the compatible XP drivers!
(maybe you could do this before formatting the HDD and Vista)

Your notebook seems to belong to the *PSAJ4E* series.
Please choose this number before you would start the driver download.

By the way; The notebook support the SATA controller therefore you will need to include the SATA driver during the XP setup procedure.
The Storage Manager which is available on the Toshiba driver page contains such SATA driver.

If you don?t know how to include such SATA driver please use the forum search option for searching.
There are a lot of similar threads regarding the SATA driver installation.

Good day,

Yesterday I bought the laptop Toshiba Satellite A300 and then I installed it, Windows 7 RC1 and now there is a problem. Key to that is to Slovak keyboard symbol "??" for English is "\" in combination with the Shift key does not work :-( If you press a key on the keyboard itself is displayed as the character but if I use the keyboard combination Shift key and the cursor is not removed.

Can someone advise me whether there is a problem with the laptop or is the problem of operating system and drivers?

Answer:Malfunctioning key on Satellite A300

Have you tested keyboard functionality with preinstalled and SUPPORTED operating system? Do it and you will see that everything works well.

When you try to use not supported OS offered for testing only, you must not wonder if something doesn?t work well.
I am 100% sure described issue has nothing to do with hardware malfunction.

Answer:I need to upgrade my Satellite A300

Since few years I use A300 too and have pretty good experiences with this machine. To be honest I was not happy with original Vista version.

I have done follow steps:
-I?ve upgraded RAM
-I?ve bought 265 GB SSD
-and last step was Windows 7 installation.

Believe me machine runs like a ?rocket?. Windows 7 is fully supported and all drivers, tools and utilities you can find and download from Toshiba download page -

All stuff should be installed following right installation order. If you need some help or assistance please let me know.

You need to wait until Toshiba starts Win7 support and offer driver designed for Win7. All offered drivers will be tested.

Hi all, I have got a Satellite A300 running Vista 32-bit

I posted in this forum previously about my reboot loop problem

I finally found that my laptop is fine when in safe mode, or when only running on battery
Once I plug in AC power the loop comes back, I saw in another post that disabling both processors in device manager can solve the problem, and it worked for me!

However I would like to do a factory restore since my OS is corrupted quite badly (probably due to virus?), lots of services cannot start and also no internet access

Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?

I tried other OS like ubuntu but problem still exist so I am sure it is not OS problem.

So I would like to know:
1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?
2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
3. Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)

I have been trying to fix my laptop for weeks, your help is much appreciated!

Answer:Satellite A300 cpu problem

> Problem is when I do factory recovery, the processor driver will probably get installed at some point then my laptop will go into the loop again and never able to finish the recovery?

I think this will always happen whether you install the system using recovery disk or clean MS disk.

> 1. Whats the difference of CPU running mode in safe mode/battery only mode/AC power mode?

First of all if you run the notebook is safe mode, only some essential system processes would be load and many non-core components are disabled.
The CPU supports also different power saving modes (C1, C2, C3) in order to save energy
Each CPU has several power modes and they are collectively called ?C-states? or ?C-modes.?

> 2. What does the processor driver do? What happen when I disabled them?
Its an essential system driver. Without the CPU driver, the system would not recognize the CPU properly and the CPU cores.

> . Any way to set the CPU mode in BIOS? (so I can keep the recovery process working) (I tried "dynamic/always low" and disable "multi core processing", no help)
The CPU seems to be the troublemaker and i guess it needs to be replaced

I have a problem once again. I need some bacic system device drivers but I don't know which drivers I should download and install.
You can see something on this picture:

And here you are screen with list of drivers which are installed now on my computer:

My operating system is Windows Xp Pro + SP3 with integrated SATA drivers.

Can somebody make list of drivers for Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW?
Where are a lot of drivers on toshiba site but I don't want to install them all because some of them are unlesses.
They only make my computer slowly.

Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

Answer:Need some drivers for Satellite A300-1MW

> Where are a lot of drivers on toshiba site but I don't want to install them all because some of them are unlesses.
Funny… I doubt this. ;)
Why do you think should Toshiba offer drivers they are not necessary?

To be honest I can't say what drivers are missing because the screenshots are not in English language.

In your case I would visit the Toshiba driver download website. Download and install every driver and tool that you can find for your notebook model. This is really important. Otherwise some things would not work correctly. They make your notebook not slow because they are necessary.

Randomly they loose the Fn F5 ability, if pressed only LCD appears out of the normal 5 options.

Annoyingly i can't replicate the problem myself its just something that happens and only a restart will fix the problem.
They were built from a fresh and all the Toshiba Drivers were used, latest firmware etc.

I tried restoring a laptop with CD to as it was from Toshiba and that hasnt worked either.

Is there reason to upgrade A300-1NDs SATA HDD to SATA2 HDD? I know that SATA2 is faster and is backward compatible with SATA, but dont know if laptop would be able to use full speed of SATA2.

thx all

Answer:Satellite A300-1ND - can I use SATA2 HDD?

SATA1 is limited to about 150MBytes/sec (1.2MBits/sec taking into account the overheads).

Only the super fast 10,000RPM WD Raptors and similar HDD's can get near 150MB/sec. A normal 2.5" 5400RPM/7200RPM HDD will only reach about 60MB/sec -> 90MB/sec.

So installing a SATA2 HDD wont have any benefit.

To take advantage of SATA2, you would need to install a new generation SSD (for example Toshiba's new 512GB SSD) which are known to reach about 280MB/sec.
(most current/cheap SSD's are not much faster than normal HDD's)

Hi all

I have Satellite A300 that boots fine. Once on desktop it freezes and then the graphics develop green blocks and lines all over the screen
I think it has a bad GPU.

Is this repairable? Owner doesn't want to spend alot of money as it is over 3 years old.

Answer:Bad Graphics on Satellite A300

I also think that graphic card is defective. To be sure you can make one last test and connect this notebook with external display and check if the same will happen again.

Of course it is reparable but the whole mainboard must be exchanged and it is most expensive hardware part.
If owner doesn?t want to spend a lot of money best solution is selling it on eBay and to buy new notebook.

Other way, you can check if you can find some used mainboard and exchange it alone.

Is there anywhere I can get a "Home" key for my Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 without replacing the whole keyboard? I have asked around, but shops don't have single keys.
My home key is broken and does not stay on properly and I would like a new one.

Answer:Need Home Key for my Satellite Pro A300

You are right. You cannot order single key. For such situations best option is eBay.
There you can buy used keyboards and it costs few Euros.

Last month I sold one used keyboard for A300 on eBay and got 14 Euros. It is really not expensive and you can buy it.
When you get it you can exchange whole keyboard or try to repair this single key.

Sorry but I don't think there is some other alternative to fix this.

I have just bought a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. It came pre-installed with Vista, and also an upgrade DVD to windows 7 professional (which I have installed).

I tried starting up the machine this morning, however for some reason it wouldn 't boot. All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).

The thing is that I seem to have been able to solve this issue, but I just don't understand how/why this happened!
The issue seemed to be related to the battery. At first I was trying to boot the laptop (with only the battery connected) however it would not start. I dont think this has anything to do with the amount of charge in the battery, as it did have more than enough in it. I then tried booting it with just the power cable (and no battery). For some reason this seemed to do the trick, and the laptop was able to boot. The laptop now also boots when both battery and cable attached.

Why is this happening?
The reason I am interested in finding out, is because this laptop has given me a few problems already. The laptop has also been bought very recently, so I can still return it for a refund (which I am seriously considering!).

What should I do guys? Any help/advice you could give about this would be very much appreciated.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E. Should I keep it or not?

>All that happened was that the initial toshiba screen would appear, followed by a frozen black screen (showing an underscore in the top left corner).

The blinking underscore in the left corner means that the BIOS battery was empty or something wrong with the HDD (possibly BIOS didn?t find the right booting source)

I recommend accessing the BIOS and to set it to the default. Save the changes and try to boot the unit again.

You should also keep the notebook connected to the mains for about 24 hours and the notebook should be ON as well.
This will help to charge the CMOS battery?.

Check this?

- Memory: it shows only 2,840 GB but I have 4,000 GB of RAM and I dont know what can I do to help to the computer to see all the memory it has to use.

3,2 GHz on Vista? Never!
The OS does not affect the CPU speed.

Windows XP 32bit and every 32bit OS does not support 4GB.

Hi Folks,

I have got a Satellite A300 with built-in loudspeakers. From time to time it happens, that the left one is not working properly. There comes no sound out of it. Next time when I start the notebook again averything is alright. I already installed new drivers for the soundcard. But no success. I should mention that the headphones-connector is working correctly.
My question is: What can I do? The warranty time hasn't expired yet. Should I send it back for a repair?

Answer:Satellite A300 - Sometimes no sound comes out

Hi Marcus,

Sounds like the internal speakers must be replaced. I mean if external speakers or headphone working properly, the only reason could be the internal speakers.

So in your case I would call an authorized service provider how much a repair costs. I assume such internal speakers shouldn?t be expensive but just ask for that. I think the technicians can make you a good offer! :)

My laptop has crashed. When I turn on the laptop I get a black screen asking me to select either startup repair (doesn't work) or start Windows normally (doesn't work).

I am then presented with System Recovery Options (start up repair, system restore, windows comple pc restore, windows memory diagnostic tool, command prompt, toshiba recovery wizard). No matter what optioin i select, nothing works. I have tried the recovery wizard but it advises i will lose all data.

I can't afford to lose all my data as it will mean i also lose itunes and i wont be able to deauthorise the computer.

I also have alot of photos and other important info.

I dont have any back up disks (they were not supplied when i purchased the laptop).

Hoping someone can help as i really need to retriend my everything.

Answer:Satellite A300 is not working

> I dont have any back up disks (they were not supplied when i purchased the laptop).
The Recovery disk are not supplied because you have to create the recover disks using the preinstalled software called Toshiba Recover disk creator (I guess this is mentioned in user manual )

But this is the same recover procedure provided by Toshiba recovery wizard which you can find press F8.
Both procedures (HDD recovery or Recovery disk) would format the HDD.

I think you should boot the notebook using Live CD. You can use Linux Live CD or WinPE (or BartPE).
Google for that?

These CD would boot an Windows or Linux environment and would get a access to the files on the HDD.
Then you could safe the files on external medium and then you can install Windows using HDD recovery .

It has been a year and a half since I got my Satellite Pro A300. Just a week ago it started overheating very badly. At low CPU usage it maintains its regular temperature of 55 - 60C (given the hot summer weather).
However if I try to do anything CPU heavy, the temperature gets to 100C in a matter of minutes and the laptop shuts down. The fan is working, except that it does not seem to generate as powerful air stream as usual, which made me think that it was clogged. I disassembled the laptop, but I could not get to the cooling unit because of the three cables connecting the motherboard to the plastic shell, which have white T shaped connectors that for the live of me I could not pull out even a little bit. Nevertheless, I cleaned what I could with compressed air, and a little dust was cleared, but the fan/radiator did not look clogged at all.

After putting it back together there is no noticeable difference.
I am certain that this is a new phenomenon as I've been running the machine in much hotter weather in worse conditions with CPU loads close to 100% with no trouble. I checked all settings, just in case something had toned down the fan, but the power saver utility is set to "Maximum Performance".

I would appreciate any ideas and help, even just tips on how to disconnect the motherboard cables.
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - Overheating

I can imagine that there is a lot of dust inside and maybe is time for professional cleaning. You can contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. The guys there can disassemble the whole notebook and remove all dust placed between cooling grills.

Anyway, try to use your notebook with balanced power plan that will reduce CPU performance but your notebook will have enough power for usual operations.

Generally speaking, I believe your notebook must be cleaned up properly.

Hi everybody!

Shortly after I received my Toshiba Satellite A300-13i notebook, the CTRL (control) button got loose from the keyboard.
I inspected the key and saw that some of the plastic hinges were broken.
I guess this is covered by the warranty, but I don't feel like sending my notebook to Toshiba and wait for it to return; just because one plastic button is broken.
So are there any options of buying spare keys for this notebook?

With best regards,

Answer:Broken key on Satellite A300-13i

If the plastic hinges are broken, then only a full keyboard replacement could help you.
The keyboard replacement is not very difficult?
The keyboard can be ordered from the ASP in your country.

As I?m not mistaken it?s secured with two screws which are hidden under the thin plastic cover above the F1-F12 buttons.
If you remove these screws you could easily lift out the keyboard.

But note; the keyboard is connected to the motherboard with the cable. So be careful!!!

Finally I have to say that if you would do this then only at your own risk!!!

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1G3, recently I had issues with my laptop in which the laptop all of sudden stops working, when I checked the forum, I have been advised to clean the cooling system, which I did and everything is now ok; recently I have noticed that CPU fan stops momentary, then backs to work, is that ok?

If not, what should I do, should I replace the CPU fan? Or what?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G3 - question about CPU Fan

As far as I know CPU fun runs automatically and it will run when necessary so this fan behaviour is nothing unusual.

If your notebook works well and, after cleaning, you didn?t notice any shut down anymore I think everything is OK.

Greetings from Spain,

I had 1 month ago a serious issue with my laptop (which is 5 months old), related to crcdisk.sys.

After several hours investigating I gave up and send the computer to technnical service. (Vista was not loading and no recovery was possible)
The technnical service has changed 1 hard disk and the motherboard (don't ask me why)
This computer cames with 2 HD. (2 phisical devices)

The first has a partition with recovery.
The problem now is that I can see the second HD (D:) but I cannot read or access to it.
However, McAfee, can scan it and I can see the file names (they were there before sending to T.Service) while scanning.

The only solution I have from Toshiba is "send it to us again", but with the previous experience I had with this guys, maybe now they put a new keyboard and I wait another month....

Any Ideas?

Now I can read the second disk from Internet expolrer...., i.e. D:\documents.. I can play some videos I had there and seems to work.
Howver I cannot read with regular windows explorer or cannot write files there from any program.

BTW. I can access from explorer, but just direclty to folders, i.e. d:\documents\letters, but not to the root?

Answer:Satellite A300 - cannot read second HDD

Have a look in Disk Management, can you see D: Drive in there?

Did you ever install software that hides folders or drives?

If all else fails, you have the option of running Recovery to revert back to its Factory state. Backup your data first.

*I have a problem with my optical drive.*

It can't read cd's. It can read dvd.

I tried to reinstall and I tried everything. It's not working.

I have Mat****a UJ-850S drive in Toshiba Sattelite A300-17N on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Thanks for help!

Answer:Satellite A300-17N can't read cd's

Check if firmware update is available for you drive on the Toshiba European driver page.
If there are no updates then the issue might be related to the ODD malfunction.

Try to remove also the upper and lower filters from Windows registry:

Test the different medias (CD & DVD) from different manufacturers.
If this will not help, the drive replacement is needed.

Hi, My Satellite a300-21V with SSTCorp TS-L633A DVD-RW Drive doesn't working (no reading, no burning) with CD-RW(however works fine with DVD-RW); i have upgraded firmware from TO1 to TO03(from toshiba's site), but no effect; furthermore i modified BIOS settings with mode compatibility(changing from AHCI compatibility), but no progress.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-21V Can't read CD-RW

> modified BIOS settings with mode compatibility(changing from AHCI compatibility), but no progress.
This setting has no influence on CD/DVD drive
This setting affects only HDD controller and using compatible mode no SATA drivers for HDD controller are required.

In you case I recommend deleting the upper and lower filters like mentioned here:

Furthermore I recommend testing different CD-RW from different manufactures.
I made good experience with TDK disks

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1J1 - it was purchased 2 years ago, and recently it keeps cutting out.

For example, it used to cut out whilst playing games such as The Sims 3, which is understandable as it may be overheating. A few months ago I started putting my laptop on 3 spaced out CD cases so there was well over an inch of space underneath the laptop to allow for air flow.

The last few days the laptop has been turning on, getting to the desktop, and switching straight off. When I reboot it, it suggests doing a recovery etc, which I have done. I'm currently running Windows Vista Home; there was an update for windows on the laptop recently, which when I tried to install, the desktop froze, then cut out.

The laptop doesn't feel over heated, and I even turn it on with nothing whatsoever underneath it. I'm now using my partner's laptop just so as I can find some solutions!

I have tried running the laptop in safe mode, but again it just reaches the desktop. My Auntie borrowed my laptop last week and said she found when she moved the screen and held it in a certain position, it stayed on for longer.

Any ideas or help would be really appreciated.

Thank you

Answer:Satellite A300-1J1 - Keeps cutting out

The notebook shuts down automatically even after new OS installation. Is it right?
Well, indeed, it sounds like the notebook would shut down because of the higher temperature?
First of all the notebook?s cooling modules should be cleaned.
I mean there could be dust and debris which prevent the fans from rotating faster.

I clean my notebook from time to time using a compressed air spray?
Furthermore if you would not notice any improvements, then memory check should be done? the easiest way to check the memory is a usage of software called memtest86+

Of course, notebook should also be checked by an technician if nothing would be helpful?

Hey guys,

I was hoping I could find some help on these forums. I hope I have posted this in the right place.

A while ago, Windows Vista went crazy on one of my laptops, and I wanted to install XP. (No, you cannot laugh at me). I have the XP Pro SP3 disc.
Although, even the recovery agent that Toshiba has on all of its laptops/computers could not fix these issues I had. I put the XP Pro Sp3 disc into the MAT****A DVD-RAM UJ880AS drive, hoping to use the formating tool on that so it would let me install XP as Microsoft/Windows made it impossible to revert. Anyway, the formatting went all well, and then the installation just came up with billions of errors.

I currently have a Ubuntu Live CD running on it, to make it actually DO something, and its working fine. But i really badly want XP on it.

I think the issue could be BAD SECTORS on the HDD.

I need help, and input.

Do I buy a new HDD and hope the install works? Do I buy a whole new laptop?

Your help is appreciated like you wouldn?t believe. This has been driving me nuts for ages.

Answer:Cannot install WXP on Satellite Pro A300

1) Check if your compact disc has no scratches.
2) Make sure that the lens of the DVD drive is clean (dust free). If not perform a cleaning operation by using cotton wool stick and alcohol (make it very accurate and avoid making any micro scratches).
3) Backup all your data from all partitions. Then start a clean installation of Windows XP. In the setup remove all your existing partitions (make sure that after that you have ONLY unpartitioned space) then create new partitions of preferred size. Format those partitions in NTFS (Quick) mode. Finally, install the system onto partition C.

That's it.

Good Luck to You, and keep posting your progress.

Hey guys,

So my laptop crashed down on me there a few months back and I never did anything about it. But now i'm determined to get it sorted!

So basically, while I had my laptop plugged into my printer via usb, the laptop just froze. Nothing was responsive so I turned it off.

Now when I turn on the laptop I get this message about "Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer."

Then it goes on about it possibly being caused by a usb device being disconnected while in use by the laptop. Now I can't remember exactly as it was a few months ago, but there is the very real possibility I accidentally disconnected the laptop when I was using the printer!

I can't start the laptop at all. I get that message described above and if I click enter I get the option to launch startup repair (Doesn't work, just brings me to a black screen after attempting to load files or something) or start windows normally, just bringing me back to the screen about the error!

I've tried my recovery discs I got with the laptop but that also just ends in a black screen, no noise of a disc moving as if its launching its application.

If anyone had a solution to this problem, that'd be great. (I said I'd give you guys a shout before I went to the Computer Expert, which equals money, so hopefully one of you can help!!!)

Thanks a lot for reading!

Did you boot from the Recovery Disc or run it in Windows?

Can you boot from other bootable CD's or DVD's?

Has extra Memory (RAM) been added? Perhaps test it with the bootable Memtest CD from
You may want to test the Hard Disk as well using Hitachi Drive Fitness Test or similar bootable CD.

I Have two problems.

1.After installing windows 7 ultimate my A300-1eg started to overheat and then switch off.
I know that OS cannot influense whether notebook overheats or not, nut this the problem i've got.

2. I have recovery stuff on HDD what program should i use to wrote it on DVD's and recover factory settings, pre-installed OS Vista ond so on?

Answer:Satellite A300 overheats

Your notebook started to overheat after Win 7 installation?
Did you notice the same issue using Toshiba preinstalled OS?

What graphic card driver did you use running Win 7?
The Toshiba graphic card driver should be used because such driver supports an ?overheating? protection. The graphic controls the GPU performance and the heat dissipation? usage of non-Toshiba drivers can lead to a higher temperature and to overheating?

Regarding the second question;
Usually the Toshiba Recovery disk creator was preinstalled on your notebook which allows you to create the recovery DVD? this application should be used in order to create such recover disk?

If you didn?t create such recovery disk and if you have formatted the partition where the Vista was installed, then you will not be able to recover the unit to factory settings?

In such case you will have to order the recovery disk from here:

I have just formated my laptop, and because I have lost the recovery disc I am trying to find the drivers on the toshiba website. But I cant find the Network controller one, nor the Massive storage one, Can someone please help me??

thanks a lot!!

Answer:Re: Need drivers for Satellite A300 iBH

I doubt you lost the recovery disk? as far as I know the notebooks are not delivered with Recovery disk but there is a option which allows you to create a recovery disk using a preinstalled Toshiba recovery disk creator.
I think you should read the user manual ;)

What notebook model is it? (the model number can be found on the label at the bottom of the unit)

You said you cannot find a driver for network controller. But what network controller do you mean exactly; LAN or WLan???

As far as I know some of the Satellite A300 series supports Marvell LAN card or Realtek LAN card.

And there are also 3 different WLan cards; Realtek, Intel and Atheros.

If you need the Wlan driver then you can find it here:

The LAN driver should be released on the Toshiba driver page.

Hi guys,

*Do you know of some reliable online stores where i could buy a Fan for Satellite A300 *- 1MS model?*
Where do you buy most of the replacement parts for your used laptops?

Here is two stores i found, but i have no idea if they are trustable or not.

I have seen many sites that say A300 but the case is silver metal and the original is black plastic.
The plastic or metal is not a big problem i am worry of some fitting issue.

Thanks for any help,

You could order every notebook part from Toshiba authorized service provider available in your country. The ASP should be able to provide such part even if the notebook belongs to an older notebook series.

I've just recently spent 400 odd quid on this laptop.
Hated Vista and installed with XP Pro.

However I find when I get my 'login' screen on XP, my desktop comes up and it takes a decade before I can start any applications like Firefox etc (egg timer etc). In fact its probably the same speed as my old Satellite 1900D (thats 8 years old). But once it all loads up its 'pretty' quick but not lightning fast.

I've defragged after the countless windows updates and it seems to be quicker. But quite disappointed still. Any thoughts?
Virus scanner is Mcafee Total internet

I've also played about with 'startup' thru MSCONFIG and got rid of stuff I dont need, but still no avail.

Is the A300 really that slow? I dont have any dodgy applications just normal office 2003 and as said above Mcafee

Any advice on disabling some files that I dont need thats within the Toshiba system that could possibly slow it down?

Answer:Satellite A300-1MC is slow using the Win XP

I wonder how you have installed the Win XP?
Did you change the SATA mode to compatible? Yes?

Well, then this is the reason why the notebook is ruining slower as expected!

If you want to get the full HDD performance then the SATA mode must be set to AHCI and you need to install the Win XP using the SATA drivers!

I recommend checking this thread:

Jimi posted nice link to the Intel Matrix Storage Manager which contains the SATA files

Hi all,

Does anyone know where the hard drive is located on the A300? Is it an easy find? Are the many screws to take out?
I think I need to replace the hard drive as mine is slowly failing on me...

Does anyone have the specifications for the hard disk? Is it SATA?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300: Where is HDD located?

There should be a User Guide/User Manual in the notebook, it should be on the desktop or in the all programs area. It will have diagrams of where the HDD is located and how to access it.

The HDD is located inside a panel on the bottom of the notebook. There will be a couple screws, its not to difficult, just be careful. HDD will most likely be a SATA 2.5".

Best regards,

Answer:SSD for Satellite A300-1MW (PSAGCE)

Usually it should be compatible because SATA standard is down compatible.
This means that even if you would use an SATA III device connected to SATA II, then BIOS should recognize such device.
But of course you would not get the speed provided by SATA III because the notebook does not support this kind of controller. The speed would be limited to the SATA 2

I would like to clean my computer really good.
I have search in the internet and somebody uses a vacuum cleaner in the grill, but I would like to know your opinion, what things I have to open in the interior without the risk to clean the fan system of the core and all that.

Can you help me please?
Thanks everyone.

Answer:How to clean my Satellite A300 1BL?

To clean my notebook I use compressed air spray and could blow away the dust from the cooling ventilators.
It?s not necessary to disassemble anything.

If you have no experience how to disassemble a notebook you should not do this. It?s a little bit tricky and you have to remove a lot of screws and it?s your own risk.

Like two weeks ago, I bought a A300 16I. Everything worked well, but today when I was working on my battery (only working with Word), my notebook swichted off. My battery was nearly empty so I thought that that was the cause. But when I later tried to start my notebook again, it wouldn't start (then I worked on electricity)

I also didn't see any lights going on at my notebook, for using electricity.
Tomorrow I'm going to contact with Toshiba and maybe sent it back, but maybe it's just a little problem I can solve myself.

I'm not really good with computers, so maybe one of you got any idea what;s wrong or if there's anything I can try.

Answer:Satellite A300 16I won't switch on

Yes, maybe it?s only a little issue and maybe I can help you.

Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Wait several minutes (about 30min) and then connect both parts again.

Try to power up the notebook and check if it will boot up.
If it doesn?t help I?m afraid the ASP technician will have to check this baby

However when i searched teh forum I found that there are fixes kb888111 XP SP1.exe for SP1 and kb888111 xpsp2.exe for SP2 but I have SP3.

- Reboot the notebook
- Install the sound driver
- Reboot the notebook

PS : Excuse me if you find mistakes, I doesn't speak very well

If there is no second SATA connector on mainboard it?s not possible to install 2nd HDD because you can?t add such a connector to mainboard.

As far as I can remember there are other threads about A300 and 2nd HDD here in forum and the point is that all A300 using the same notebook case but the mainboards are different. So you may have a 2nd HDD bay but no connector.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1DO.
No Recovery CD's were delivered by Toshiba.
I have a formatted notebook, a valid XP key, but I cannot install it because it does not recognize the hard drive.

Where can I find the hard drive drivers for my A300 1DO.

I am really tired of finding a sollution for my new notebook.

Answer:Satellite A300-1DO - HDD drivers for XP

You are right. Recovery DVD is not delivered because recovery image is saved on second HDD partition. After first start there is reminder with exact explanation that you should create recovery DVD using Toshiba recovery creator tool.

If you have ignore it, now you do not have possibility to create this DVD again. Really great!

Anyway, what you need now is SATA driver and it must be loaded at start up using F6 button. You can save it on FDD or create own bootable media.
On this thread you can find exact explanation about WXP installation on Satellite Pro notebook but the principle is the same and you can do the same on your notebook.

Hi all,
Quick question. I have still six months toshiba warranty on my A300-1ED. Notebook is very good. Never fail. But it lacks in performance so i want to upgrade my PDC T2390 to some C2D class processor.
Tell me truth what model of C2D my A300-1ED will run (mainboard and bios)? T7500? T5750? What FSB frequency? 667 or 800?

Anyone do this before?

Thanks for all advice!!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1ED - CPU upgrade from PDC to C2D

First of all you would lose the warranty if you would disassemble the notebook!
This should be clear for you.

Secondly there is no warranty that your notebook would run properly and stable after such CPU upgrade.
I?m thinking about compatibility issues between CPU and BIOS since BIOS was not pretested with other CPUs.

However, I read some threads here about CPU upgrade and some users done this?
Seems that some notebooks run without any big problems after CPU upgrade but I think this is not regular for all series?

Maybe this topic could be useful:

My Toshiba (Sat A300-1EC) OS was changed from Vista to XP. Easy keys, hot keys and illumination stopped operating.

Thanks to much information from this forum, I downloaded four drivers from Toshiba Support (Common, Hotkey, Utilities, Control).
Everything becomes OK, except LED illumination. First (left) of easy keys turns on/off sound (as Fn+Esc), but not illumination.

Did you choose the right option in Toshiba Control buttons tool?

Usually you should find this in control panel -> Toshiba Controls

Select Illumination On/Off in the first button settings and save the changes.
Then check again the illumination button functionality!

Hi everybody,

last night the laptop turns itself off without warning, I touch the bottom and was very hot. This morning I disassembled, cleaned and changed the thermal paste to the microprocessor to better dissipate of the temperature.

Well, the laptop is running on about 30 minutes because it again goes high temperature and turn off. I formatted the hard drive too and does not work. The fan runs and take air but the air strip is not hot, it is rather cold, which is strange because monitoring the micro gets in the 90 ? C before switching off.

I Dont know what the hell is wrong with the laptop, and the only way of working is set the microprocessor to 50%.

But before baking it in the oven or buying a refurbished one i must be sure that it is not a motherboard issue. Is there any possibility that my motherboard has also an intergrated gpu, which means that after having removed ati mobility hd3650 the screen should have turned on (which didnt).

I have a Toshiba laptop model Satellite A300-1J1 (which does not have a HDMi socket) & have just purchased Toshiba XV551D 40" HD tv. Want to be able to connect laptop to tv with the best picture quality possible, would a DVI to HDMI cable be better than the standard 15pin monitor to external monitor/tv cable?

My laptop has a IEEE1394 socket, i'm presuming this is the same as a DVI socket??? (I could be wrong tho!) Also on reading the tv manual, it says unless I am connecting HDMI to HDMI, I would need a separate audio cable?

Please advise asap, I'm looking to buy all necessary leads online rather than go shopping so want to make sure I get correct leads from the off.

And apologies if i sound thick lol.

Answer:How to connect my Satellite A300-1J1 to HD TV

HDMI or DVI will be the best quality.

15pin VGA is analog and has a limited resolution.

If your TV has speakers, you can simply use HDMI to output the sound to the TV (HDMI includes audio signals).
If you use DVI, you will need an Audio Cable from the headphone jack on the laptop, to your Speakers/Hifi.

IEEE1394 or FireWire is not a video connector. It is similar to a USB port, primarily used to transfer video/audio from a camcorder to your PC.
