Satellite A - Keyboard writes wrong letters

Question: Satellite A - Keyboard writes wrong letters

My keyboard seems to have gone nuts: I hit the 'b' and I get an 'x', I hit the 'c' and I get a 'j' and so on.

Can anybody tell me what's going on and how I can get back to a sane keyboard?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi Torakan,

And what notebook you have exactly?

Are you using preinstalled Windows from Toshiba or another OS?

I have a little problem with my Volume control on the front of my notebook.
If I turn this, the volume of the notebook will not change.
But for some reason it writes "c" and "b".

For instance. When I'm typing a mail and I want to change the volume by turning the volume control (up and down) i get this:
ccccccbbccccccccccccccccccccccccccbbccccccbbccccc
The faster I turn it up and down the more 'b's I get.
It's really weird and frustrating. Have been locking for drivers to fix this problem but there ain't no drivers for it.

Can someone please help me.
(And recovering my complete notebook is not an option)

Answer:Satellite P300-13M - Volume control writes letters

Thats strange. I would try updating the BIOS and the Sound Driver. You can download them from the Toshiba Website.

Hi,

There is an interesting problem with my laptop, it cames with Xp Home edition with 1 partition, I used partition magic to create another and then format C:, after that setup XP Pro. Install the drivers one by one, now when i try to write something in anywhere like notepad or msn or word, it only writes one character in 1 second;

Like when i write "trial" it write it in 5 seconds..why did this happen and more importantly how can i work this out??

Answer:Satellite M40X-184: keyboard issue - only writes one character in 1 second

Hi,

did you tried to deinstall driver for driver how you installed it? Maybe you should do this, I think there is probably just a software problem and no hardware failure.
So, you can also try to set the type rate of your keyboard in the Control Panel-> Keyboard -> (Repeat Delay, Repeat Rate) and maybe it?s just there a setting which needs to be corrected.

Hello- After repairing my screen, Averatec returned my 5110P.Upon
return it has a keyboard problem. Averatec tells me that even though
the warranty ran out while in thier possession they cannot help me.

Here is the problem-

u types j
\ types nothing
d types x
f types nothing
g types v
j types u
x types f
v types g

Here are my attempted fixes-

1. NUM lock is off
2. HKEY_USERS/Default/Control panel/Keyboard has proper values
3. Updated drivers
4. Deleted/reinstalled drivers
5. Completly reinstalled OS (xp Pro) with start up disks

My Keyboard properties reads:

Japanese PS/2 Keyboard (106/109 Key)
Device type: Keyboards
Manufacturer: (Standard Keyboards)
Location: Plugged into Keyboard

If I go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Accessibility/On-Screen
Keyboard, the on-screen keyboard types properly

The physical keyboard types the same whether in DOS or windows

I don't have an external keyboard, so I haven't tried that yet.

I believe the "Japanese" refers to manufacturer and not Language
because, I belive I have seen that keyboard for sale in systems that
are targeting english consumers.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions. Thanks much,
Brandon

Have you tried updating the driver?

If that doesn't work, you could try remapping your keyboard with a program called KeyTweak(http://webpages.charter.net/krumsick/)

Most of the letters come out ok, but some of the keys writes wrong letters e.g. key with letter 'I' gives '5', 'O' gives '6', etc. And it's not the problem of keyboard layout, it's U.S. English and never been changed to another one. Problem persist in each application including command prompt. OS is XP Pro. Norton didn't detect any virus. Anyone has a clue?

This has been happening every other day for me recently where I will be typing and my keyboard will randomly start typing the wrong letters or pressing certain keys will open the menu bar, but my computer to sleep or just type completely random letters. I've googled it once before and found that I should change the settings in control panel > regional and language settings which worked for me once but lately it doesn't.

I've even purposely added a foreign language and then re added my normal one (UK) but hasn't helped, it was already on the proper settings anyway. The last two times it has happened was on the night and left my keyboard unplugged, the next day I plugged my keyboard back into the tower while the computer was still loading up and it has been working fine now and did the same again last night. I don't know why it does this? Also google suggested a FN key but my keyboard doesn't have one.

My mother's computer started having issues with the keyboard, recently. I'll say it how i see it, but obviously, i might be missing something.

When typing the letter q on the keyboard, "qt" comes up. w and e are fine, r types "re". This happens with two different keyboards. I brought by my (this) keyboard, and it worked fine, but i only tried for a minute. On her computer, i tried both a ps2 and usb keyboard (native for both, no adapters).

Right now, if i try to login, when i click on a user, it fills in the password field (as if there was a stuck key) and tells me the caps lock is on. Capslock button does turn it off, but it did not look like backspace was doing anything. The bios did not complain of a stuck button. Safe mode (i happened to try with networking) has the same issue. No issue using the keyboard before windows loads.

Using teamviewer from my computer to hers is tough. I can hit capslock with sometimes works, keys sometimes work and sometimes don't, if it types in two letters, i can use the mouse to highlight one (to overwrite) when continuing. With a lot of effort and time i can login. Clicking icons on the desktop does not work, from the start menu does.

I tried hitting the helper menu to get the on screen keyboard for logging on. The first time i tried, it came up and worked. Now the button doesn't do anything.

I went into Device Manager (early on, when i could still do things) and deleted the keyboard. It made me reboot, but didn't se... Read more

Answer:Keyboard typing wrong letters

Just tried again via TeamViewer. I can delete in the password field, but it acts as if there is a stuck key. (This is different than the last time i tried.) The form with the option for the on screen keyboard now does come up, but the keyboard is an empty frame and the mouse cursor (while over the frame) shows the circle of waiting.

This is weird. It's like Schrodinger's cat or something. The problem changes every time i look at it!

Well about a week ago my laptop keyboard started to act funny when I tired to backspace random signs, or random actions would happen, when I tried to use the space bar it wouldn't give me a space it might give me a d or a / or c, n and when I pressed enter it wouldn't work either then a few days ago the letters started not to work either. They all started to do random things like H might disconnect my Internet or it might Brighton the screen and I have tried every single thing I read about and nothing sometimes my keyboard works perfectly fine and sometimes it gets crazy, I scanned my laptop to see if it was a virus but nothing, I looked to see if it was the keyboard not working but the computer said that the devise was working perfectly fine. I've been experiencing something VERY strange with my keyboard (M/S "Elite" split keyboard) and had assumed it was failing but today I happened to use it on a different machine and discovered that the keyboard is NOT the problem (I'm using it now connected to a notebook).

Here's what happens:

In certain apps (noticeably Outlook Express) the letter "i" seems to be problematic. When typing a word containing an "i", like "Chief", the word will often come out with the "i" and "e" transposed (no, it's NOT my typing) and, very often, after having typed all the letters of a word including an "i" - like "Michael" - the "m" will appear on the screen and then nothing else - even though I've struck all the letters - and after a split-second I'll see "Mchaeli" on the screen.

Also, after invoking All Caps, the first time I use the "i" key it's still lower case. Upon the second use, it's upper case as it should be. Then, after deactivating All Caps, the first time I hit "i" it's still upper case, even though it shouldn't be.

The upper case problem has now extended to "C" and "O", as well.

What could this be? I know it sounds strange, but I'm hoping someone out there has seen something like this.

TIA,

Jay Palmer

That is most likely a virus, you need to run a full scan with your antivirus and make sure it isn't compromised. I would also recommend you move this to the malware forum, then you will get it touch with people that are certified to help you with this.

Did you set your keyboard language to US or UK.
Go into the control panel and click Regional and Language Options, click the Languages tab, click Details button, then check in the box to make sure English (United Kingdom) and under Keyboard you have United Kingdom. If this is what you prefer.

I have an Acer Chromebook and recently spilled some water on it. In my panic, I quickly wiped down the keyboard and all was still well and working. I noticed then that whenever I tried to type anything, completely different letters or numbers or random symbols would show up. I'm guessing that as I wiped down the keys and pressed them down at once, it did something to change the keyboard. And to add to this problem, I can't even sign into my laptop as it's password protected, and I can't type my password in correctly. Is this something that I can fix myself easily?

Hi linscrawf,

Here is an article with 2 ways of performing a powerwash before signing into Chrome. http://acer.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/27649

This should reset the device (removing any unsaved data) and any potential settings or key combo's that you may have it.

It still requires some keystrokes, but they shouldn't also intiate other keystrokes. If they are, or after performing the powerwash you still have this issue it would likely indicate that the liquid spill is affecting the circuity below and multiple keystrokes are being detected.

I hope this helps,Cory

Ok, so I had Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, but I wanted Professional because I heard it takes advantage of the dual core thing when Home doesn't, so I installed Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition 2005 and then upgraded to Service Pack 2. I didn't do anything on the computer before upgrading to Service pack 2, except register the computer and things, which I found out my problem. When entering my Email, instead of the @ sign coming up, the " sign came up.. here is a list of the keys that shouldn't be coming out when the button(s) is/are pressed(Note, I have an American Keyboard and an American copy of Windows):

Shift+2="
Shift+3=
Shift+`=
Shift+'[email protected]
Not this / but the other slash=#

Is there anything known to fix this? Because this is getting very annoying, and I just want my keyboard to be normal lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

When I try and type into Internet Explorer (or Google Chrome and Firefox) I don?t get the letter or symbol that I type.
For instance when I typed ?a? I got ?r? on screen and similarly ?w? gave ?t? and ?m? gave ?y?.
I then typed ?a? again and got ?u? on screen. When I kept
hitting ?a? I got ?u, I, o, [? which is of course part of a progression along a querty keyboard!
When I type into a ?Word? document the problem does not occur nor does it when I type into an email.
Things that I have tried:

I have run a full scan of my anti-virus software, Zone Alarm (which is up to date.)I have scanned with Spybot, which found a whole load of things that I treated.I have scanned with Malwarebytes but it did not pick up anything.I have run my registry software ?Regzooka?
None of these actions have cured the problem. What can I do to correct this?
I have Windows 7 with all of the latest updates downloaded.

IE version 11.0.9600.17041. Update version 11.0.7

Answer:Keyboard types all the wrong letters etc. in Internet Explorer and other browsers

Hi,
1. close all open IE Windows.
2. Start>Programs>Accessories>system tools>Internet Explorer (noaddons)
this will start IE in noAddons....
If the problem disappears when running in no addons mode then it is being caused by one or more of your addons...since your other browsers are affected it is probably being caused by an addon that is common to all of your browsers...
Use the Tools>Manage Addons menu from IE to disable your Toolbar and BHO addons one at a time (restarting IE each time to see if disabling an addon fixes the issue)
or
Start>Control Panel>Action Center>Internet - will list any known malware or incompatible addons.
or
Start>Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab, uncheck "enable third-party browser extensions".... restart IE for the full changes to take effect.
Start>Windows Update...... examine your optional updates lists for any driver updates (for your keyboard) and apply and install them.
You have a number of anti-virus programs installed on your computer...
You only need one.... having multiple av products installed will slow your computer and may cause errors....
Spybot S&D is not suitable for Win7 and higher... it uses black lists for url's and slows down the web browser considerable.
The AV products that you have installed are probably free versions, that do not have up-to-date malware lists... Consider purchasing a license from the AV vendor or

I have the Gateway NE56R12u 15.6-Inch Laptop
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1

A few drops of water was spilled onto my keyboard (I don't think the water got down into the laptop... as far as I could tell the water landed on top of the keys, but I could be wrong) and when I went to clean it, I didn't think ahead and turn it off before cleaning up the spill. So many keys were pressed and now the keyboard is not functioning correctly. When I press the majority of the keys, they will either add other letters/symbols, or they will trigger Windows shortcuts.

As an example..
B = "B (it also brings up the right click menu) (this will also bring up this: symbol as well as times)
O = 7i7o0
L = *L{YK

M = HM

k= yk*

j = brings up googlechrome downloads

i = takes curser to the start of the text

The space key types b ' and brings up the right click menu.

7 brings up the "open file" shortcut

and so on

I bought a Toshiba Satellite p50 4 weeks agoo and this is what happpenned.

As you can see with my normal typing (quite light and fairly quickly) it is repeating soome of the keys. A lot actually.

Whheen I took it to the store we did a system refresh and even re installed windoows again and the problem still existed.

We tried everything, making changes in the conntrool panel for bounce keys, slowing down repeat keys and the same thing happened.

Thankfully JBHI replaced it and gave me annother one.

So.... now you can see on my new Satelllite the same thing is happpening and it's driving me nuts!!

Can you please let me know if there is a fix to this really annoying problem and what it is, or is it just another faulty keyboard?

I have never had thhis issue with any othher keybooard/laptop or computer. Only the Satelitte.

Answer:Satellite P50 - Keyboard repeeating letters all the tiime.

The only obvious thing you didn't say was if the problem on the 2nd machine appeared after you added software to Windows.

I think the keyboard repeat delay and speed are linked to the keyboard device driver. Have you tried external keyboards?

Also have you installed the latest Toishiba updates?

Answer:Satellite C50-A-1DV - keyboard typing multiple letters

Connect the external USB keyboard and check if the same ?double letters? issue would appear using such external USB keyboard.

If the double letters symptoms will not appear using external keyboard, then the internal notebook keyboard must be faulty.

This would mean that the internal keyboard must be replaced to fix the issue.
But if the double letter will appear even using the external keyboard, then the keyboard controller (part of the motherboard) could be affected.

Not quite sure if this could be fixed by BIOS update but in case your BIOS is not up to date, try to update the BIOS.

Otherwise I would recommend you to contact Toshiba authorized service provider for an check.

This started to happen a few days ago and I only recently bought this laptop, about 4 weeks ago. But anyway, whenever I type, the keyboard keeps missing out letters, symbols and spaces. Does the same issue happen if you would use external USB keyboard?

If external USB keyboard would work properly, the double letters problem is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.
Then there is just one solution: keyboard replacement.

Hello

I am working with a Satellite A100-083, Windows XP SP2. Since about one month ago following problem shows up from time to time:
While typing in my browser or email-programm (both are by Mozilla) my computer types the letters "uit" turns the capslock on and opens new browser windows (about:blank, which is my startpage config.).

Of course this sounds like having a virus, trojan or sth. like that but after running some different antispyware and antivirus software, without solving the problem and nowadays without finding infected files. I tried to find something about a trojan who acts like this in the internet - just topics with the problem but without solutions or defining the trojan (if it is one). Beside this the problem isn't there the whole time. Sometimes it doesn't happen for about 2 days and returns after that.

Now I am wondering if it could be affected by some other source.

Any ideas or similar cases?

Thank you.

Answer:Re: Satellite A100-083 - Keyboard types letters automatically

Hi unfun,

I don?t think it?s a virus problem. Why a virus should cause such an action?

At the moment for me it sounds like a keyboard malfunction and I would recommend testing another (external) keyboard. So you can make sure if the problem is software related or not. You can use an USB keyboard from your desktop computer to do this.

Brand new Laptop, Windows 7, 4GB RAM, etc

Just restored it to factory condition again but to no avail.

Whenever I use the up down etc arrows, it makes letters and numbers come up, not on every key stroke but on say every second. Also the number pad tends to spit out the wrong numbers as well intermittently also, in word, excel and some other programs. The correct keyboard is chosen. Answer:Satellite L500 - Keyboard issues using arrows creates letters and numbers

Hi whatnani,

If you have already restored the notebook back to factory settings and checked the correct keyboard layout the case is clear ? Your keyboard is malfunctioning and it should be replaced with a new one.

Satellite L500 is a pretty new model so it should be covered by warranty. Just contact an authorized service provider and ask for that:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

Symptom:
Key-presses drops out or gives wrong output. The problems occurs randomly, either right at boot or after <random> uptime. Looks like its a hardware related issue and not a OS issue. Problem occurs in multiple OS?s and even in the BIOS-meny. None of the solutions posted in this forum/other posts resolves the problem.

Removing battery is not a solution (as suggested in other posts), problem reoccurs after <random> uptime and sometimes even right at reboot. (And lets face it, a laptop without a battery is a _stationary_) =)

No! Its not a heat/overheating issue, problem can occur right at bootup after a complete powerdown with battery and power removed. (and no, its not a dust-problems or a issue of broken/fault cooling-fans/cooling)

I am using the lates BIOS for my model, so doing a bios-upgrade/flash wont resolve the problem.

Hello ,

first excuse my english

i have a satellite Satellite A50-432 with a 86 key qwerty and when i install windows xp i have a wrong mapping .

i have try to find a correct driver on the toshiba support page in archive but i cant find driver for the keyboard

could you help me ?
thank for your reply

Answer:Satellite A50-432 and WXP - wrong keyboard mapping

The question is what is your keyboard language layout?
I googled around for Toshiba Satellite A50-432 and it looks like this unit was released in Germany.
Does the keyboard support German language layout?

In such case you have to change the keyboard language to German too.
Go to CONTROL PANEL -> REGIONAL AND LANGUAGE OPTIONS ->LANGUAGES tab.

1. Under TEXT SERVICES AND INPUT LANGUAGES, click on the DETAILS button.
2. Under INSTALLED SERVICES, click ADD.
3. In the Add Input Language dialog box, choose the input language and keyboard layout or Input Method Editor (IME) you want to add.
4. Apply the settings. Now you should see a language icon in the System Tray and you could switch between different keyboard languages by pressing the ALT + SHIFT keys

Answer:Wrong keyboard settings on Satellite L20

Hi,

Go to Start->Control Panel->International options and language-> and then change the keyboard settings. Go to Language tab, and then click details. At this point change the settings to your keyboard and region and you should be good to go. Sounds like your keyboard has another language set instead of the european one. Set your regional keyboard language there and the keyboard should type normal.

Please help,

I have a Satellite M50 purchased last year via a relative in Australia who works for Toshiba.
From day 1 the key functions have been unpredictable but I have learned to live with the problem.
For instance hitting @ (upper case 2) key produces " and vice versa (upper case') [email protected]
Hitting Shift and 3 produces £

# is a product of back slash key. Hitting back slash key and shift produces ~
I have now discovered that no key combination produces a back slash and this has presented a problem with some software mods I wished to carry out.

Answer:Satellite M50 - wrong signs using the keyboard

These are simply wrong keyboard language settings.
I assume your notebook keyboard settings are set to English US or UK? you have to change it.

Go to the control panel -> regional & language options -> Languages tab -> Details -> Settings tab

There you can change the keyboard language to English (Australian, New Zeeland, etc..)

Would recommend checking several languages till the right sings will appear.

Best regards and Happy New Year

Hello,

I just bought a L670-17X.
During the installation it asked me which language I wanted and I chose English USA.

This was installed but the keys on the keyboard do not match perfectly.
For example the y and z replace each other, the question mark touch produces -, the - touch produces /, and so forth.

Any help would be appreciated to get the keys to match the symbols perfectly.

Thanks for your kind help.

Hello everyone!
I'm having trouble with my laptop's keyboard, specifically with letter x.

I press it once and nothing happens.. but if I immediatly press it again, it writes the letter.

What happens?
This works almost like when you open a folder on the pc. You need to click two times quickly to open it.

I tried running the Safe mode and writing and it worked perfectly!

At first I thought it was just dirt or a piece of something that was trapped under the x key but I removed it and nothing..

Please help me.

Answer:Keyboard writes key once when it was pressed twice

It sounds like there is some program or service running in normal mode that is keying off the 'x' key to see what follows. I've never heard of something like this and have no guesses on what it may be.

Did it work OK at one time? If so, did you install some utility or toolbar around the time the problem started? Can you try a System Restore point just before the problem started?

I run Win XP Pro and recently got infected with 4 trojan horse virus. I had to complety format my HD and re-install windows, but the problem Im having now is keyboarding text. Here is whats happening. I can type a few words of text fine... and then what happens is the text jumps up to the middle of the first line of text and inserts what Im writing at that point, or it will allow me to write 5 lines of text and then jumps up to the beginning of the sentence and inserts what Im typing at that point. I cant rename folders either...it jumps out of the typing scheme into my workdesk at which point, I have to click back into the folder and try to rename it again. Very strange! It has even written. backwards ( righ to left) as Ive typed a sentence. Its very annoying to say the least. Ive reloaded all the the drivers that came with the computer, so I know they are correct. Even writting this now, its jumping all over the place. Ive scanned and there are no more virus showing. Help!!!

Answer:Keyboard text jumps around and writes backwards

I would try another keyboard and/or mouse. One way to test the mouse is to move it to a completely different window before you begin typing. If you notice that the other window becomes the "active" window, then somehow the mouse is clicking "by itself". Otherwise, you may just have a bad keyboard.

Hi, since about one year we're using a Thinkpad T61 6458W4Z thatevery once in a while has several strange issues: - Sometimes when writing in an application, most of the time this is Internet Explorer 7, all letters typed in the keyboard are written von right to left - instead from left to right. - In addition to that we have problems with the touchpad and mouse (if plugged in). Sometimes, the left mouse button keeps pressed so it's not possible to work anymore (i.e. in Excel everything is marked when moving the mouse and so on). The only possiblity to solve the problems (for some time) isto reboot the notebook. I already upraded the notebook to the latest BIOS and drivers, tough currently I am not able to access the support pages onLenovo's website for this model - 6458W4Z does not seem to bea valid model anymore. OS is Windows XP SP3 and the problems have been there sincethe purchase of the notebook. Willing to make a call at Lenovo now, however, any ideas whatthis might be? Thankslukin

My burner is Mat****a DVD RAM UJ850S ATA device and I am running under Windows Vista. The problem is as follows: I start the burning from Windows media player Burn option. I select the files to be burned, the burning starts. It fails after 3 or 2 files and then error occurs and the burning stops.

No error message is displayed. It is not possible to remove the CD from the burner without shutting down the system. You may open the burner again during the restart. My burner is almost unused, it reads the CD's and DVD without problems as far as I have noticed.

Anyone who has experienced same type of behavior - any hints?

Answer:Satellite 100-049 - DVD burner writes only a few files and then fails

Hi,

I didn?t experienced these problems, but a little question: did you tried to burn files not only with that windows media player then also with a full burning program (like nero, cdburnerXP, CloneCd, etc..) to see if the same error occurs with a program which is fully intended just for burning files?

It could be that the Windows Media player is not fully supporting the burner, so it would be worth trying.

Would appreciate some feedback on your success with that issue, just keep me informed. :)

Greetings

I thought I would share my recent adventure with a 3000 N500 I have. The laptop was special ordered with Xp Pro on it. I uninstalled and installed Ubuntu, worked great. At some point my wife spilled some soda onto the page up and down keys, resutling in those keys not working. Recently I purchased her another latop and decided to reinstall Windows Xp Pro on the N500 for use with some camera software I have. I decided to go ahead and order another keyboard from Amazon, for 21 bucks. I wiped the drive and used an OEM Xp Pro to reinstall windows. I was having some issues with sound and modem drivers and decided to go ahead and install SP3 on it to help out with the high def install of drivers. That worked great, but when I recieved the new keyboard Tuesday and install it, I noticed that some dual number letter keys were inputting numbers. I googled and was brought here where a number of posters stated several programs might be the cause. I searched and these programs WERE'NT installed on this, due to a clean install of OEM windows. This took me back to suare one, why. I'm very proficiant in PC's having built many custom machines and assisted others in repair. I decided to test the keyboard by using an flash drive with Linux on it. The keyboard worked like a champ, so that narrowed the issue to windows pr software inside it. Booting back to windows I started thinking that possibly an update inside SP3. I removed SP3 and rebooted and the keyboard worked great, no errors.... Read more

Windows 10
Start - Settings - Ease of Access - Keyboard

Everything here is off. If i turn on the On-Screen Keyboard no keys are Highlighted (indicating they are depressed/stuck )
When I use the hard keyboard and sometimes even the onscreen keyboard its as if either Ctrl, Alt Win or something are pressed down as it just types shortcuts.
EG:

-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via onscreen keyboard types as normal
-H- typed into chrome browser address bar via hard keyboard brings up -Chrome://history- But now also on the onscreen keyboard Ctrl is Highlighted.
I click on the onscreen keyboard to deactivate the now highlighted Ctrl button and try again. Now things are different, as now both the onscreen keyboard and the hard keyboard both bring up ?Chrome://history- when -H- is typed ( Shift is not depressed )

This seems to randomly cycle one min onscreen keyboard works fine, next the keyboard works fine or they either work or none of the work rendering the computer useless.

I cant help feel it?s a software issue but im no pro and I don?t have an additional external keyboard to try but as the onscreen and hard keyboard work ok for a while sometimes I assume something is up and that?s what brought me here.

Hopefully this is clear enough to be understood and to help others who may have the same issue.

Thank you so much for your time.

My son has a Dell Inspiron running Windows Vista. His computer was fine and he made no changes to it whatsoever. He came to me very upset claiming that his keyboard was not working properly.
I took a look at it and sure enough, it will not type the following letters:c,h,l,t, ***U,v. Since his password contained the letter "L," once he logged out he was no longer able to log back in.
He asked me to reinstall his operating system. I have done so, except now I'm on the screen where it asks me to type a username and password - and guess what? It still won't type those letters! I even tried the virtual keyboard - it will not type those letters using it either. However, when you press the "U" key (whether on the keyboard or the virutal keyboard) a window pops up titled: Ease of Access, and it gives me the option of hearing text onscreen, making items larger, etc.
I cannot even begin to imagine how to fix this. Please, if any of you know what to do, help me please??

Answer:Both laptop keyboard and virtual keyboard will not type certain letters

OMG! I have to add this additional information:
I just accidentally pressed the "shift" key when I tried to type an "L." It typed the "L!!" But it still will not type a lower case "L." When I press the "Caps Lock" key, it has no effect - it still will not type the letter L. This is the case with all of the above noted letters. All of them will type only if I press the "shift" key.

My 7 year old XP laptop has just received EasyBCD and a new partition with W7.I now realise that the new partition has stolen a letter F:\ which has always been used for a special partition on my external Hard drive, and I want it to stay that way.I believe drive letters are only held in the registry and have no effect outside the O.S. in question, therefore W7 will not be affected by me changing the letter which XP uses to view it.Please confirm it is safe, or explain my error.RegardsAlan.

I had Windows XP Pro installed on my laptop, then I used Partition Magic to convert some free space into a new partition. I installed Linspire on the new partition, allowing it to configure GRUB for dual-booting. This worked fine, but I decided that I didn't want Linspire anymore, so I formatted that partition from within Windows and rebooted. I used the recovery console on the WinXP cd to run fixboot and fixmbr, then restarted. This worked in my testing of other various Linux distros, but this time I got an error: "NTLDR is missing"

I did some Googling and searching here, but I found nothing that helped with my situation. After some looking around I discovered that the driver letters for the two partitions had been switched somehow. In Windows, before I restarted, the Windows partition was C: and the newly reformatted smaller partition was E:. When I log into the recovery console the Windows install partition is shown as E:/ and the new, empty partition is C:/. Buh?

I've looked everywhere for a way to change the drive letters back to what they should be, but I haven't had any luck. The DISKPART command seemed the most likely solution, but the description in Microsoft's support documentation is apparently for a completely different program, since almost none of the features listed are available from the recovery console.

Does anyone know how I can fix the drive letters? Thanks.

Answer:Drive letters wrong after removing Linux dual-boot partition

Never had the need to do it, but have you tried
Control panel->admin tools->computer management->disk management, right-click the partition and select "Change drive letters and path" option?

Question: keyboard letters

Hi, i recently purchased my Omen from best buy and, although it works fine, im having an issue with the keyboard. The keys all work fine but when im typing a word that contains two of the same letters, sometimes it pauses and doesnt register that second letter (for example the word "letter", the second "t" sometimes doesnt register). its not windows because filter keys is disabled and ive tried testing it with another keyboard. is this something with the way the keyboard is made? just curious it does get annoying sometimes.

also the second letter will register if i wait about a spllt second to press it but if i type fast it and tap it a second time it doesnt register. this is with every key not just one.

Hello, I'm considering to purchase T420s Laptop via web-side.But I'd like to have some others letters (like Ukrainian or Russian) on keyboard besides standard English.Questions:* does anybody know if ti's possible to make such orders via web-site?* is there any other way to add such letters, but stickers? (personally I do not like idea of stickers, and, e.g. for Mac, there is possibility to make laser engraving of letters on keyboard. something like this for Lenovo?)

Answer:Letters other than English on the keyboard

I'm fairly certain if you order it in the Ukraine, you'll get a keyboard that matches your region.Otherwise, you can source the proper keyboard and simply replace it yourself.

Usually this happens to me a lot, and I wanted to let anyone who didn't know how to fix this problem; when your keyboard starts changing the keys into strange characters (*Like this - ?)

Just hit CTRL and SHIFT simultaneously.

I'm sure many of you already know this, but I just wanted to leak a lil tip out there for those who don't!

Answer:Screwed up keyboard letters.

I have never come across this problem but at least I will be prepared if I ever face it, thank you.

You do know that in your system specs, you claim to have 4086MB of ram, do you mean to say 4096MB? Because having 4086MB means that you have 3.99GB of ram, which is very unlikely.

Since upgrading to Win 10 from 7, I'm unable to use the ALT keys any more for the 3 last letters in Swedish - ?, ?, ?.

Any suggestions much appreciated thanks....

Answer:How to add 3 last Swedish letters to UK keyboard

For me some Alt codes still work, while typing others seems to act like a 'hot key', going back one page in a browser for instance (odd). The ones for ? and ? do that!

For ? and ? you can add the Unites States-International (QWERTY) keyboard. Switch to that when you want to create characters with accents.

To use, press one of the five punctuation keys ` ~ ^ ' " , then the letter to be modified...

http://www.starr.net/is/type/intlchart.html

Type " followed by a for ? and " followed by o for ?. There's no way to produce ? though. Fortunately that particular alt-code does still work: (left) Alt+0229 still produces ? for me on a fully up to date Windows 10 version 1607.

PS: if you have a UK keyboard (ENG UK) and switch to the ENG INTL one then the positions of @ and " are swapped. You'll need to remember to type @ when you want the " key.

Few letters are not functioning in keyboard. pls suggest to fix this issue.

Answer:few Keyboard letters are not working

> Few letters are not functioning in keyboard. It probably would be too inconvenient to use an external keyboard (either USB or BlueTooth interface). Correct? So, your only option is to replace the keyboard. You might find an identical keyboard on eBay for less than what you would pay via http://PartSurfer.hp.combut you would either have to understand how to disassemble your computer enough to replace the keyboard,or pay a qualified computer technician to do the replacement.

Answer:Problems with letters of the keyboard.

Welcome to Techspot !
First you should know that it is impolite to type in all capital letters( Unless this was the work of a faulty Kb)
It is the same as yelling at someone.
You should try reading this post for some pointers http://www.techspot.com/vb/topic33297.htmls.
As for your keyboard,
If it is a branded type that has it's own software these have settings to control the keys usage. Sometimes an update to the software can fix these problems.
For normal keyboards it is really best just to buy a new one .They are cheap and you may get more serious errors if you try to fix your present unit.

Ok, so I had Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2, and I decided to try out Vista, so I went out and bought Windows Vista Ultimate RC2, and it was great and all, except that with only my 1 gig of ram, it sucked up my memory and I couldn't play any of my games that I have(I'm a gamer). I decided to use a copy of Windows that my sister got when she got her new computer, so I Uninstalled Vista and installed Windows XP Professional Media Center Edition 2005 and then upgraded to Service Pack 2.

Shift+2="
Shift+3=?
Shift+`=?
Shift+'[email protected]
Not this / but the other slash=#
Shift+Not this / but the other slash=~

Is there anything known to fix this? Because this is getting very annoying, and I just want my keyboard to be normal lol.

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance,
-Mr. Waffles

Answer:Keyboard letters aren't as they should be..

Hi Mr. Waffles and welcome to TSF !

Unfortunately installing a version of XP for which you own no license is illegal and according to the forum rules we can't help you any further. Stick with XP Home or Vista Ultimate, or buy an MCE license.

Sounds like you got yourself a virus (a quick google search shows that Mirar is spyware). I'm no expert on malware removal, I suggest you post this issue in the System Security section.

I have a DELL PC, about 2-3 years old.

Some three weeks ago, the a became recalcitrant and, now, appears in my text on the screen barely half the time when I type it. I have to go back and click it vigorously once or twice.

Now the same appears to be happening with the i.

Is there any adjustment I can do myself?

when i'm trying to fix some typos it types over instead pushing over to the right the letters that are on the right.

Answer:Sometimes my keyboard types over letters to the right

Often editors keep track of the overstrike/insert mode that was in effect when you edit a particular file. When you change it afterwards in a different program, the editor may set it back how it was last time you used the editor or even edited the current file. Usually there';s a different cursor depending on which mode is set. Are you getting overstrike when the insert cursor is showing? That would be strange for sure. I don't remember seeing anything like that. At least not for some time.

What editor or program are you using when you get this?

Hey guys my keyboard has been acting up recently but I'm pretty sure its a software issue. When ever I'm trying to type letters will randomly be dropped or it will refuse to type some letters all together. Like if I was to try typing the letters A through Z, it will usually show up with like 5-10 letters missing. It is very annoying when trying to log into things or when playing games. It's only been happening in the last few days or so. I've tried removing the keyboard from device manager and then reinstalling it, and obviously restarting the computer. I've tried replacing the batteries on my keyboard and using a different keyboard to no avail. Even in typing this message there were a lot of issues in some sentences and then others it will be fine. Any help would be appreciated.
