Preferred Solution: When I start Satellite I have to enter a BIOS password

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Unknown BIOS password cannot be removed.
In such case you have to ask ASP for the help

I'm having a problem with a Toshiba Satellite L300D. After I reinstalled the HDD it would beep. To solve this I went into BIOS to look and see if the board had some sort of intrusion setting. When I exited the BIOS and restarted I know get the Enter Current Password (with a blue background on a black screen) with continuos beeps. The thing is it seems to auto enter in 10 characters (*) and then stop. There are no other options.

I have searched unsuccessfully for any info about this and I cant even find where the CMOS is located which I think is soldered onto the board.

Has anybody had any similar experience like this?
I would really appreciate any help its driving me crazy.

HI, Satellite L70-A-13P

I setup a user and supervisor password. Works fine. However I can't anymore enter bios. If I press F2 as usual, i have the box "enter password" (the same as for normal boot). After typing the supervisor password, the computer continues to boot and don't enter bios!

I keep F2 key pressed but nothing works.
I also tried Esc, F1, INS, F12, 0.

Answer:Satellite L70-A-13P - can't enter BIOS after setting BIOS password?

Are user and supervisor password the same?
Have you been able to enter BIOS in the past?

Perform complete shutdown and start notebook again. Then try with F2 or F12. When you will be asked put supervisor password and I hope you will be able to enter BIOS settings.

Hi All, how have u been.

It's been 2 months I have bought the laptop Satellite A300-1PH. Yesterday, first time I tried to see my system BIOS by pressing F2, but it required Password to enter onto BIOS but I never put the password as I am very first time opening it.

Can anybody tell me what is the exact problem?

Answer:Satellite A300-1PH - Why I have to enter a BIOS password?

Maybe the shop who sold you the laptop put a Password on the BIOS?

Give them a call and ask if they put BIOS passwords on their laptops.

If they say no, then you should send the laptop to an Authorized Service Center. There is a list of ASP's on the Toshiba website in the support section.

I've set a BIOS supervisor password (no user password is set). I know the password.

If I hit F2 it enters the text editor but does not give any opportunity to enter the password, and so whilst I can view everything there is no way to change anything.

Any suggestions?

I got a sattellite pro L300, width a partitioned HDD, C with Win XP installed and D with Windows 7 installed, the problem is the follow:

To days when i switched on my laptop, the OS Boot screen doesn't appear, the startup process stop on the Toshiba logo.
In addition i can not enter the BIOS using the button F2 or the boot manager using F12 button.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 doesn't start - Cannot enter BIOS

>the startup process stop on the Toshiba logo
This would mean that the notebook cannot pass the POST (power on self test) correctly and this would mean that an hardware problem has been detected on the motherboard.

Remove one of the RAM modules (check both) and try to power up using only one RAM module.
It could be possible that one of the RAM modules is faulty?

It could be also possible that the motherboard malfunctions? as you see, it?s hard to say what part could be wrong but everything looks like an serious hardware malfunction?

Hi Guys,

I have a laptop, it is a Toshiba Satellite C660D-15F
Part no : PSC0UE-02R00MFR

At startup it blocks on password (Bios), but the owner does not remember it.
I know there is 2 nodes on the motherboard to jumper to reset the BIOS.
Can anyone tell me what is the label of those nods or give me any solution to unlock the BIOS ?

Thank you very much

Answer:Re: Satellite C660D - how to reset BIOS password at start-up?

BIOS password is very important security feature and we cannot discuss about this on public forum. Why to protect my notebook when someone who steals it can post on Toshiba forum can ask how to remove my protection?

BIOS password must be removed by authorized Toshiba technicians after check if you are real owner.

After kids have used laptop when logging into BIOS password I get "invalid Password" I don't think they been into BIOS and changed it, so the only thing I can think of is the language has been changed.

I've had this before but have always managed to log in.
Is it possible from XP to change the key board layout?

If so to what?

Is there a work round, or is it about ?150 repair.

Thanks for looking in.

Answer:Wrong BIOS Password at start-up on Satellite A series

The keyboard language layout can be changed in Windows XP.
For that you have to go to
control panel -> Regional and languages Options -> Languages tab -> details
There you can set an additional or new keyboard language.
You can also use a short key SHIFT+ALT to switch between the languages.

But the main point is that this settings work only while running Windows XP OS.
In BIOS the layout couldn?t be changed...
So it?s hard to believe that the kids changed the keyboard layout?.

For me it?s not explainable why the BIOS password has been changed or why wrong BIOS message appears?

However, if you are not able to boot the notebook due to the BIOS password then you will have to contact the ASP in your country for BIOS remove?
You will have to pay for this service but I don?t believe that it?s expensive?

I have had this H50-55 for sometime, several years and suddenly it ask for a bios password when I try to enter the bios to change the boot order.  I have no clue what it is. I hate passwords and NEVER use one unless forced...What can I do?

Answer:Lenovo H 50-55 Bios password suddenly appears when trying to enter bios. I don't know it.

my guess is that your cmos battery died and it wants you to set day/time.  There is no backdoor password.  The choices are remember the PW or replace the motherboard.

Think Pad Twist i7-3537U No matter how fast or how many times I press the enter key when starting, I can not access the start-up menu. Immediately after the white "ThinkPad - To interrupt normal start press Enter" letters appear for just a fraction of a second on the bottom left corner, there comes the windows blue logo, and windows starts. - The enter key is working fine (I can use it with any application)- I am completely shutting down the laptop, not sleeping or hibernating.- I have tried a "safe mode" start from msconfig -> same results.

Ok, I've been able to access the BIOS with the following procedure: Winkey+C > PC Settings > General > Advanced Startrup > Restart Now > > > UEFI Settings But this is only a temporary solution. What will happen if I can not start Windows and I need to access the Startup for recovery purposes?, or to boot from a USB device?  I would like to have a solution to normally access the Startup Options pressing the Enter key. Thank You

Need To Access BIOS through Windows. System is a DELL 520 Desktop. The F2 message is missing at startup so rebooting doesn't work. Somehow, the "boot order" has been changed and it is skipping my C: drive and CD Rom, so even a bootable CD doesn't work. In other words, windows doesn't startup because it's skipping over the operating system. If I can get into the BIOS I can put the boot order back to how it should be.

Answer:F2 BIOS menu missing on start up, need a way to enter BIOS

How do you expect to access the BIOS through Windows, even if it could, if the system wont boot? There is only one way to get into the BIOS and that is at start up.What do you get on the screen if anything? The boot order doesn't change by itself. I suspect there is something else wrong. If you insert a bootable CD in to the CD drive and everything else is working it will boot from that if everything else fails.Failing that you should gt a message to insert a bootable disc or reference to PXE Boot ROM failure. If you get non of these then it is something more than the boot order.Stuart

Hi mohabayman, welcome to the forum,
unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a hardware maintenance manual available for your system, but from your account your first attempt should have done the trick.  Did you save changes before leaving BIOS?
Please also try just pressing "n" leaving out the backslash; special characters aren't usually recognised by BIOS.

When entering the BIOS, I am first prompted for the hard disk password (the appropriate icon is shown). I am then prompted for the power on password (the appropriate icon is show) which is NOT enabled in the BIOS. Simply pressing the Enter key get me to the BIOS but without the ability to change any settings. I've tried a number of methods but never see the supervisor icon password prompt. I tried the documented approach of disabling power on password (it was set initially). The hard disk and supervisor password are the same and 18 characters long.

Hi Guys!

Just bought Toshiba C50-B, This is ****test laptop I ever see, no recommend to anyone, avoid this brand at all.. 15 day I tried to enter in to BIOS ad still nothing this completely useless, even no cd-rom in it!

Answer:Re: How to enter BIOS on Satellite C50-B

I presume you are not informed enough how all this works and your opinion is, unfortunately, based on low level of information about Win8/Win8.1.

At first you must perform a complete shutdown in Windows. How to do this you can read in

After doing this restart your machine and press F12 to enter boot menu.
There you can choose bootable device and also find option setup to enter BIOS settings.

I've just taken delivery of an R500 with Xubuntu installed.

I need to get into the BIOS to change some settings. I know the supervisor password and I know that normall one presses ESC and then F1 to get into the BIOS. Unfortunately, I don't get the option to enter the supervisor password - it just puts me straight into the 'User' settings.

I'm also having problems getting the F12 boot device settings to work.

The manual suggests that I use the Windows Configuration utility to adjust some of the bIOS settings, however - I'm not running windows ...

Any thoughts?

Answer:Portege R500: Enter BIOS with known supervisor password

Thats far as I know you will had have windows installed to access some further bios options.

The problem is there is no other software then this windows configuration utility and the common moduls which can access the hardwarelayer.

So, if you want to change something you will have to use windows.. :/

Hint: you can use another HDD where you can install Windows. Maybe a good way to keep ubuntu on the harddisk

It's a Packard Bell Easynote L4. It had a fault hard drive - but I could access the Bios by hitting F2 key.
After a successful hard drive upgrade, I now get asked to enter a password, if I want to get into the Bios configuration page.
I have downloaded a Bios upgrade from the PB website ( along with drivers), and wonder if, by updating the bios, which is now on a bootable CD, this might resolve (reset) the Bios problem.
Is it worth the risk, as the laptop is booting into XP and is working well?

There I have founded the following information:
+C:\Program Files\Toshiba\PassowrdUtility\TOSPU.exe+
+This utility lets you do the following:+
+Register, delete or change the supervisor password+
+Create or invalidate a supervisor password token+

Check this and then you should be able to delete the password if you know the current.

I have been trying to put XP onto a hard drive that I previously only used as a second archive hard drive, but when I take out the current main hard drive and set the slave to master, then boot-up with my bootable XP CD it won't do anything and gives me an error.

First time it completely ignored the bootable CD, gave me a blank screen and stopped, saying that the System 32 hal.dll file was missing. After several more attempts I gave up and put the old main hard drive in, set the one I was trying to put XP on back to slave, then formatted the second hard drive from C:\.

I then took out the old main hard drive again, set the second one to slave and tried booting up again with my bootable XP CD. This time it completely ignored everything, gave me the black screen and this time a different error: 'NTLDR is missing' and told me to Cntrl+Alt+Del to restart. I tried this a couple of times and just got the same thing.

So, next thing I wanted to check was the BIOS to see if booting from CD was definitely enabled (it always has been and I have used it before on this PC). I pressed delete on start-up as I have always done to enter the BIOS and it WILL NOT enter the BIOS! Tried again several times and it just won't do it.

Has anyone got any ideas why first of all my PC thinks there are Windows files missing when all it has is a blank, formatted hard drive to deal with? Also could anyone suggest why I can't get into BIOS? Maybe these problems are related. I ha... Read more

Answer:Can't enter BIOS on Satellite A100

I don't have a direct answer to your question.
However, notice that you ought to be able to access (as I usually do) bios settings from within windows xp by toshiba console utility.
As long as it works with you it can help you out in bypassing your problem and make adjustements to your settings.
(I own a different satellite, but I believe tehir are similar on this feature)

I said , I found these instructions on the Internet to enter the bios legacy on windows 8.1 (On Youtube ) :
- From the right sidebar press " settings" , - Choose " Change PC settings" , - "Update and recovery " - ?recovery?

- ?advanced startup?

- ?restart?

On restart press on :

- "Use a device",

- " EFI USB device" ...

The following message appears :

?System doesn't have any usb boot option. Please select other boot option in boot manager menu.?

- Press enter : boot menu appears .

- Choose Enter Setup : you enter the BIOS Legacy !

End .

Unfortunately for me it just happens that you restart Windows 8.1

Could you give me a hand ? Thank you

Answer:Satellite L50-B-1M1 - enter Bios legacy from Win 8.1

I’m wondering what you want to do exactly.
Do you want to access the BIOS?

If yes, you have to press the F2 button after powering ON the notebook.
The F2 should be pressed several times to ensure it was registered correctly.

Note: in case the notebook has not been shut off completely, please check this workaround:

Start notebook again and press F12 to enter boot menu. Thee you can find option for BIOS settings. You can also try with F2 at start up.

Hi everybody,

I want to set my Satellite M50D-A-103 to boot from USB. I have set USB as the first boot device using the Toshiba system settings utility in Windows 8. Doesn't work. Now I want to enter the BIOS, but I never get there. I have tried all imaginable ways of pressing the F2 and ESC keys (hold while turning on and keep holding, hold while turning on but release after 1 second or 3 seconds or once the Toshiba logo appears, press after turning on, press once Toshiba logo appears, keep pressing it or just repeatedly press it...), but I never get into the BIOS.

I have even tried to open the laptop to remove the BIOS battery to reset it, but even with all screws removed I cannot seem to remove the plastic laptop bottom.

Any suggestions?

Best regards,

Hey what are you doing? Do you want to lose your warranty? Don't do such stupid things. Removing BIOS battery you will not reset BIOS. It is not desktop machine.

Please perform complete shutdown - - and after doing this start your notebook, press F12 and you will enter boot menu with option to enter BIOS settings.

By the way: before you do anything create recovery media using preinstalled Toshiba recovery media creator.

Toshiba laptop(owned by a friend) installed with Vista Home PREMIUM-forgotten admin password-used Vista Home BASIC recovery disk from another laptop to 'return to out of box state' YAY! worked! vga driver,no fingerprint scanner, etc etc. ah well, suffer in you jocks works, sorta except now its saying its not a genuine copy of windows..i tried the recovery disk again but now it wants the product key from the other laptop which i cant get hold of right now, (owned by me) Anyway now it wont even startup so i cant change the boot sequence to cd boot to use repair disks etc...can you help?? Please...:-o

Answer:Vista wont start after i enter password

Call Toshiba, tell them you need a recovery disk for the laptop that is now unbootable. The windows serial should be on a tag on the bottom of the notebook. The recovery disk is not free but at least your friend will have the correct recovery CD with all the proper drivers for the laptop.

I've also seen this site mentioned as a place to buy recovery CDs.

I have an HP DV-6500 running Vista Ultimate. When I type my password to startup the vista circular icon that indicates it is working comes on and stays that way and I can get no further. 1) Have you tried Safe Mode with Networking to connect to the internet?2) Have you tried the Startup Repair tool? Here's a link to the how-to: Have you tried generating a bootlog for both SafeMode and normal mode? To do this, at the Safe Mode screen, select "Enable boot logging", then boot into normal mode (note the time at this point). Wait a while to make sure that it's thoroughly locked up, then reboot into Safe Mode (noting this time also). Then open the C:\Windows\Ntbtlog.txt file and locate the 2 logs that are listed around the times that you booted. Copy/paste them into your next post (they're gonna be long!).

Answer:Satellite A300 - "Enter password" on startup screen

I presume your notebook is locked with BIOS password.
BIOS password cannot be set from alone but I don?t understand your situation.
Either you have blocked your notebook with BIOS password or someone have done it without your knowledge.
Have you some explanation for this situation.

Anyway, if BIOS password is not known to you, you must contact nearest Toshiba service and ask for help. They can remove it for you.

I needed to boot on an USB and couldn't do it on UEFI mode, so I changed boot mode to CSM Boot and can't now enter to BIOS by holding F2 and pressing power button later.
Even, in CSM
Boot mode can't do anything, it only shows a screen where the following text can be found:

pxe-mof exiting pxe rom
select proper boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key

As nothing works, I thought to reset the BIOS to factory for restoring the UEFI boot mode by removing the CMOS battery for around 30 minutes, but it didn't work, maybe because I can't remove the main battery connector.
I was also looking for the typical jumpers to restore the BIOS but I couldn't find these pins on my model.

Please, I need help for exiting the CSM mode or restore the BIOS, my laptop is now unusable.

Thanks in advance.

so I couldn't boot from cd or enter the BIOS.
Is there any solution for this??

Answer:Can not enter BIOS or boot from CD - Satellite 5100

Hi Veenone,

Erasing the partition on the hard drive would have the same effect as formatting, but you should still be able to boot as far as loading the BIOS (this is normally where the Toshiba screen appears with the boot options), before you see an error along the lines of "HDD:0 .....", although this error may be different according to boot options etc.

You should be able to re-install Windows from a recovery CD.

Could you tell us any error messages you are seeing or any other screens or options etc?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1LG - cannot enter BIOS settings

To be honest I?ve never heard about such problem. It is pretty strange due to fact that you can enter BIOS from time to time.
I don?t think there is anything you can do about that, except to set BIOS to default settings. In my opinion BIOS update is not the solution. BIOS is the first and lowest hardware check level and notebook users don?t have much possibilities to do anything about that.

I?m afraid you need professional help with this.

Press F2 button several times in the row.

Otherwise I recommend start the Toshiba HWSetup Utility. (All Programs -> Toshiba -> Utilities -> HWsetup)
Here you can change some BIOS settings like setting it to ?Standard? (default).
I think you will need to change from ?fast boot? to ?normal boot? because you said you cannot see the Toshiba splash screen.

I own a Satellite 5200-801 and I?ve recently bought a new CD/DVD - rom cause the original just died. The thing is that the drive I bought is from US market and my laptop is European. So I?ve double checked all the serial numbers on it and everything was correct except the manufacture serial number that I suppose makes no difference to be different.

My problem is that when I install it the light indicator flashes normal but when it boots it shoes IDE error boot and windows doesn?t see it at all. Do u know how can I enter BIOS setting to change master/slave cause I believe that there is a difference among them at this point....the original is master and the second is csel.

Also is there a key to enter BIOS because I can?t enter at all no matter key combinations. Finally if I change the reading head of the DVD/ROM and put back the original would make the change I need?

I've got a Satellite pro 6100 notebook, en I was trying to make it boot from an external USB HD. When I enabled the second hard disk option in the BIOS it stopped booting all together en I can't even enter the BIOS Setup anymore. All I get is the "TOSHIBA in touch with tomorrow" screen with the icons to select the preferred boot method manually after that it's just blank screen with a blinking cursor in the top left corner.

Holding down the ESC or F8 key before powering on usually results in fast beeping sounds.
Holding the tilde (~) key before powering on results in the screen remaining blank (not even the toshiba splash screen appears) and slow beepings sounds.

Appart from that I can't really make her do anything at all.
I tried resetting the BIOS by disconnecting the CMOS/RTC battery (hoewever it's called) from the motherboard for a while, with no results.

Powering on without the internal HD results in a blank screen with an "IDE #0 ERROR".
I can always shutdown by holding down the power button, don't bother about the external HD, it gone I don't even want that to work anymore.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100: Can't enter BIOS and won't boot up

Hi Barrie,

Sorry to hear you are having problems with your hard drive.

To enter the BIOS settings, start the computer and hold down ESC whilst tapping F1. If you hold down the keys, then switch on the power, the computer will see this as a stuck or jammed key on the keyboard, hence the beeping noises.

Once in the BIOS, you should be able to undo the setting you changed earlier.

The IDE#0 ERROR message is where the notebook could not find the internal hard drive on boot up.

I hope this helps, please post again if you need more assistance

Could it be possible that another user/person set it on your notebook?
