Satellite A210-16F - BIOS update went wrong

Question: Satellite A210-16F - BIOS update went wrong

Yes, the upgrade flash went wrong with me also, as so many i've seen. Weird that toshiba recommends a bios flash when you get errors installing win7/ vista, and have it fail so much.

I tried getting 3 different bios versions from the internet, 2 from the toshiba site (2.0 and 2.1 i thought) and alaa200a.rom.

When i make the crisis disk with the crisdisk.bat (even doing it in DOS) it copies all files on the floppy, also tried the different phflash versions. Older ones seem to actually load for 2 minutes, the newer ones tend to load for a few seconds then stops and starts loading again etc.

Needless to say, all my efforts with those bios haven't paid off for one bit.

When i put the notebook normally on, and when i press the Fn button on the keyboard, the Fn light actually lights up, but nothing else happens.

Anyone who might have any idea what to do more, apart from buying a new bios chip?

Thanks in advance.

Ps, i have a Satellite A210-16F PSAELE

Preferred Solution: Satellite A210-16F - BIOS update went wrong

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I think, you should contact the ASP (service center) to reflash the Bios. The Bios failure topics are discussed almost everyday and no one can give a right solution besides contacting the ASP.

You can read an article that maybe can be useful for you:

Hello all,

I'm looking for info about my Satellite notebook that is dead after a bios update.

Model is A210-FS3 (PSAFGC-FS308C)... bios unsure.

I updated this notebook about 6 months ago (been shelved ever since) through windows7 beta (i know bad idea)... after it shut down it never came back to life.. It does not POST... Power light just flashes.

Is there a way to fix this without replacing the motherboard? I've read about ways to do it with a USB floppy but It seems sketcky to me.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A210-FS3, PSAFGC-FS308C. BIOS update gone wrong.

I tried to update the bios from 1.1 to 1.3 on A500-025 but it fried the motherboard. This unit is only 2.5 months old (sigh).
I tried that USB/floppy emergency recovery but to no avail. Send it back to Toshiba who did replace the board and with a updated bios.

Good luck , mine was still on warranty.

Hi all,

I was updating Bios on my A210 when the laptop shut it self down during upgrade (possible overheating issue) and now it wont start at all as bios is lost.
Any Ideas how to get it back to wake up ? Is there bios reset on M/B ?

Answer:Satellite A210 - bios upgrade gone wrong

This can be fixed only by a Toshiba service technician.
It looks like the BIOS ROM module was not flashed correctly? in such case the Rom module needs to be flashed once again using the BIOS crisis disk.
As far as I know you cannot download such disk. Only the Windows based BIOS is available for download? therefore you need a help from ASP!

Good luck

Hi guys.

I was updating my Bios, and the computer stopped answering.
After a few moments, I decided to force the shut down by removing the energy cable and removing also the battery.

After that the computer never started again.
Well, Let me explain:

The computer starts, but only the powersupply fan. The HDD is working, because I can feel the disk rotation, and the disk drive opens and closes.
The screen remains black, not even starting the Toshiba start.
I have tried plugging an external monitor (CRT), but nothing happens.
Also tried booting from a USB PEN, but it doesn't recongnize the PEN.

Can anyone help me on this one?

Thank you very much.

Answer:Satellite A210-10C Bios UPdate unsuccessfull

Seems that something wrong happened during the BIOS update? it?s not possible to say what happened but in most cases the ROM module has not been flashed properly and this might be the reason why the unit does not start up.

I think you will need a help from Toshiba ASP technicians? the technician could flash the ROM module using the BIOS crisis disk?

Get in contact with the guys in your country and ask for help

Good luck

Hi! i hope someone can answer few questions for me.

First is: How can I enable my laptop to use all 4GB of RAM? OS is Win Vista Ultimate 32-bit with SP2. Now Vista show all 4GB of RAM but does not use it. I've enabled PAE in Vista but still nothing. As I saw, I need to enable memory remapping in BIOS too but there is no such option (my BIOS is ver.1.70).

The second question relates to BIOS. As my version is 1.70 and there is newer version 2.00; do I get benefits if I update BIOS? Has anyone updated to version 2.00? And there are more options in BIOS after updating to ver. 2.00 (such as memory remapping or similar option)?
I'm a little bit scared to update BIOS, because sometimes my Toshiba freezes, and I wouldn't like it to hang during the BIOS update.

And the last question is there any change log for BIOS? So I can see what is added and changed, and what is new in new BIOS version. Because I couldn't find it anywhere.

Thanks for upcoming answers.

Answer:Satellite A210-16G (PSAELE) - How use 4GB and update the BIOS?

1) You can?t use the full 4GB of RAM on a 32bit OS. This is a limitation due the 32bit technology. Windows Vista with SP2 can recognize the full 4GB RAM but not use it, ?only? up to 3.2GB.
Here you can find more informations about this limitation:

2) About BIOS update I can only say it should only be done if you have problems with the notebook. A BIOS update should never be done ?just for fun? because it?s always a little bit risky. In worst case you can destroy the ROM module or complete mainboard.
Normally a BIOS update doesn?t contain new features or options. It?s just bug fixing. Furthermore it can?t solve the issue with 4GB RAM and 32bit Vista if you think about this ;)
If your notebook runs not 100% stable you shouldn?t update it because it?s too risky. Before the update you should try to solve the freezing issue.

3) If there is a change log available you can find it on the Toshiba website. If you can?t find it, there isn?t one available.
That?s all about this.

I hope I could help you a little bit.

The worst case happened and the laptop crached during a bios-update. I know that there is the possibility to repait the bios with a crisis recovery tool. Therefor you have to press 2 keys (in the most cases FN+B or Win+B) during the pluging of powercord and the following boot-up. I tried many manuals but nothing happend. Can anyone tell me which keys I have to press for the Satellite 210-15Y and maybe where I can get a cd-image of the crisis tool, because the laptop doesn't have a floppydrive?

Answer:Satellite A210-15Y crashed during bios-update

As far as I know the BIOS crisis procedure can be mad by an ASP technician.
You cannot download an traditional BIOS version which would allows you to update the BIOS from USB FDD diskette.
You can download only win-based BIOS which can be executed while windows OS is running.

In my opinion you should get in contact with an local ASP!

I was offered by Tempro to update the BIOS of my Notebook Satellite A210-17Z.
I accepted but the laptop shut down before completing the BIOS update. As a consequence, I can no longer boot my computer.

Looking for a solution on the internet, I could read that there is a possibility to create a Crisis Recovery Disk. I tried to do so with the crisis package from Phoenix, creating a Crisis Recovery Disk with a floppy disk and so on.

When trying flashing the BIOS and booting the machine, I was pretty convinced to succeed as the system did start reading the floppy disk for about 2 minutes ... but nothing happened.

I would like to know if someone has an experience and some advice to help me recovering my notebook.
I was told that I should try with the original version of the BIOS (the one I got when I bought the computer) but I don't know how to find it as I don't know what version I got at the beginning.

Answer:BIOS update failed with Satellite A210-17Z

To be honestly, I think Tempro is the worst Toshiba application :-( that prompts user to update the Bios and as the result Bios failure. In this forum, you can find many threads about Bios failure. It's recommended to contact the ASP (service center) to reflash it. You can read and ask the other users how to recover Phoenix Bios:

Today Tempro gave me an alert that there was a new BIOS update (bios-20100215113621). I duly installed in in the usual way. During the restart the machine came up with a BAD CHECKSUM message.

Whilst I was reading the message the machine gave a high pitched sqeak and promptly died. It will not restart or respond.

Can Toshiba please explain why they are distributing killer updates and propose how to bring my machine back to life.

We have two indentical machines so will leave my wife's running on the old bios.

Any one got any good ideas?

Answer:BIOS update has killed my Satellite Pro A210-1AZ

That?s pity mate?
Sounds like the BIOS update procedure failed and this means that you need an help from an ASP technician?
Hopefully the ROM module was not damage?. In most cases it would be necessary to reflash the BIOS ROM again?

Anyway, such procedure needs an crisis BIOS disk which would help to flash the module.

Answer:Satellite A210-199 bios update problem

I think you used wrong BIOS! Possibly the BIOS is not compatible with this notebook model.

As far as I know the A210-199 belongs to the PSAFGE family and the BIOS which is available for this series is BIOS v 2.00-WIN (bios-20100215113621.)

So it seems you try to use not compatible BIOS

Hi all, help is needed.

After an BIOS update with a help of Toshiba TEMPRO the notebook Satellite A210-199 left off to work. The update passed normally, but since he was turned off no longer loaded. All time the yellow indicator of feed burns only. In a few minutes a notebook tries overloaded, but nothing turns out and so constantly.

How is it possible to correct?

Answer:Satellite A210-199 - After BIOS update only yellow indicator on

Well, it seems that the BIOS update failed or something else. Maybe the ROM module must be reflashed from a notebook technician.

But you can try this workaround first:
Remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor and wait one hour. After this connect both devices again and try to start the notebook.

If it doesn?t work on the Toshiba website you can search for nearest authorized service provider: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

Good luck!

I have a Problem with my A210-1BW
I did yesterday evening a Bios update, but winphlash hangs up during update. I have waited about 20 Minutes, but nothing happened.

Then I killed the WinPhlash process and try again to update but get then an error message. I try to reboot and get white screen. I shut off the Notebook and shut on it again, but now there come nothing but black screen.

I allready try the Phoenix Crisis Disk with the BIOS version 2.0 from Toshiba homepage, but not worked.
Someone know what can i try?

And someone can send me to try an older Bios version then the one on the homepage?

Thanks for your help.

In case it doesn't boot anymore at all, there is little you can do. Re-flashing with the crisis cd is according my knowledge the last possibility otherwise you should best contact Toshiba service center. Maybe they can help you or repair the laptop (replacement of the BIOS chip).

Hey guys,

I'm happy with my Satellite A210-19Z (PSAFGE-05P00KGR) but I got some problems with the Energiesaving Mode on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
I read on the internet that a BIOS update would help but on the download-site there is only 1 BIOS Update and this includes WinPhlash but WinPhlash doesn't work on Vista or Windows 7.

Because there are no other update-tools on the supportsite and my device was delivered with the OS Vista. Because of that I created a bootable usb-stick with phlash16.exe and the "m10a190.rom" which i renamed to "bios.wph" on it.
When I start DOS and enter "phlash16 /x", my notebook starts the Application and I see a progressbar running through. After maybe a second I see the main menu of Phlash16 but it freezes before I'm able to do something (the keyboard doesn't react anymore when I push a button).

Do you know what I did wrong or isn't it possible to update my BIOS?

Thanks for your help and I look forward to receiving your answer soon.

Answer:Satellite A210-19Z (PSAFGE-05P00KGR) - How to update the BIOS?

Hey Chris,

I have also checked the Toshiba website for BIOS update on Satellite A210 PSAFGE series and it shows a BIOS update version 1.90. This update is Windows based and it will be showed on all Windows versions (XP, Vista 32bit and Vista 64bit). So maybe you can explain what you mean with it doesn?t work on Vista. Do you get an error message?

I can understand that the update doesn?t work on Windows 7 because at the moment are no drivers available for this system at the moment so the update should only be done on XP or Vista. I don?t understand why you try to flash the BIOS in DOS mode. This is really risky and you could destroy the ROM module in worst case.

I did also BIOS update on my notebook so I did it:
-I update the BIOS on preinstalled OS from Toshiba
-I was logged in as administrator
-I closed all running background processes and programs, also the antivirus, firewall and internet connection
-I extracted all files from the zip-archive and started the update that was done successfully.

I hope I could help you! :)

I've got Sat A210-199.
Yesterday I upgraded BIOS, and after that the problems occured:

While rebooting my computer doesn't start. When I enter the BIOS after some time it turns off.
I suppose all of this because the CPU temperature:

When I do nothing it's 77 C. I don't think it's normal :(.
Computer is very new, so probably it's not dust inside. And it's so hot from the start, but, after new BIOS, something wrong is happening.

Why this temp is so high?
There is no any background processes or something.
Is that normal?
And what about this new BIOS?

Answer:Satellite A210-199 does not start properly after BIOS update

To be honest something like this should not happen. I really do not understand why this happen. I have updated BIOS on friends A200 and on mine P200 and everything works well. Here on this forum we can just speculate about this issue but what you exactly need is professional opinion.

This will probably not help but install recovery image and check it with ?factory settings?. Be also sure the cooling fan on the bottom side is not blocked and the notebook can be cooled properly. If the problem persists you should contact nearest authorized service provider and clarify this issue.

Sorry but I really do not know what you can do in this situation. I do not see any alternative way to solve this.

Good luck!

Hi eldorado24,

Satellite A210-16G (PSAELE) belongs to the European models because it?s listed on the Toshiba European page. That means the BIOS update from Australian page will not work and it?s listed for other models (PSAFGU/PSAFHU). So this update is not made for your notebook.

On the European page ( you can search for newest BIOS version:
Notebook > Satellite > Satellite A Series > Satellite A210 > PSAELE

Hi folks,

I have noticed a that the fan activity has changed dramatically since I have updated my BIOS to V1.80. Every minute or so, sometimes even more often, the fan starts to work, going from what I believe is probably level 3 of 4 to level 2 and then stops.

This is getting kind of annoying, especially when I?m not working, and there?s only the internet (firefox) wokring on the machine.
Anyone else notice that ?

Thanks, Mike

Answer:Satellite A210-151: more fan activity after BIOS update to version 1.80

Did you check if the BIOS provide some settings which control the Fan/CPU performance?
Check this!

But possibly the fan table was changed/updated in the new BIOS version and therefore the fan kicks frequently.
In my knowledge the fan table is responsible for the cooling module performance and contains different temperature levels and information how the ventilators must run.

Usually this is necessary because the new-age notebooks are equipped with high-performance GPUs and CPUs which produce a lot of warmness.
As you know the high temperature could have a bad in influence on the notebook performance and could lead to the overheating issues?
In my opinion the fan table was changed to prevent the hardware from damage?
However, this is only my personal suggestion and we can only speculate.

Best regards and Happy New Year.

I wanted to update BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A210. I downloaded an update from official Toshiba site, and then I've done everything according to instructions.
I updated BIOS within Windows.
When updating ended, a massage "update completed" appeared and I just needed to turn on computer again.
So I did this and a problem occurred.

When I turn on my computer now, it shows me a blue window with a password. I don't know password.
Perhaps you know how to disable the password or you know some Toshiba passwords which will match?

Answer:Satellite A210-16f - After BIOS update a window with password appears

Toshiba doesn?t have some kind of ?universal? password and, unfortunately, nobody here can help you with this issue.
I just hope you have downloaded the right BIOS upgrade for your notebook model.

The password can be removed by Toshiba service provider. They can do this in 15 minutes.
Sorry buddy but I am afraid there is nothing you can do about it.

I also have the blank screen problem and I would like to update my bios from the 1.30 version it came with.
The problem I have is that I have a model A210 part number PSAFGC.
The support bulletin 98082422 for the Bios update doesn't mention my part number exactly and I can't find anything for my model.
The 2 updates are to 1.70 and 1.90. I have read the text from both of these and they seem quite different.
Not sure what to do. Here is the bulletin info.

Update the computer's BIOS to fix this problem, by clicking the appropriate link for your computer model from the following list.

- Satellite A210 / A215, Part No. PSAFGU: BIOS version 1.70

- Satellite Pro A210 / A215, Part No. PSAFHU: BIOS version 1.70
- Satellite P200D / P205D, Part No. PSPBLU and PSPBQU: BIOS version 1.40

he computer's Part No. is printed on a label on the underside of the case.

Unfortunately you didn't write which Satellite L40 you have exactly. I have checked Toshiba support page and there are listed three different models (PSL4xxx).
So you must be sure you have chosen the right model.
Please inform us about this.

I want also to discuss something else too. If the system runs well and stabile you do not need BIOS update. Fast or slow boot, in my opinion, has nothing to do with BIOS but with OS configuration. You must optimize start up procedure and be sure notebook must not start all useless applications and processes. It is nothing but wasting the time.

On this forum you can find many interesting threads about that. Have a look into this one

I have been recommended to do a BIOS update on the above machine. I think the existing version is 1.30 and the correct replacement is 1.70 (I think this refers to PSA33E: []).

The original BIOS has a password. Would like to know what happens if this process goes wrong. Will my system be inoperable or is there a backup procedure pre-install?

The additional problem with this is that the fan is going on every minute or so. The heatsink looks clean, but maybe new thermal grease should be applied to the cpu.

Answer:Satellite A30-931 - What happens if BIOS update goes wrong?

In worst case if the update goes wrong your computer doesn?t boot anymore. That means you can only see a black screen and you can nothing. In this case you would need professional help from an authorized service provider, they can reflash the ROM module or exchange it.

But here some important points before you start the update:
-Make sure that you are logged in as administrator
-Disable your AntiVirus and Firewall
-Disconnect from Internet
-Close all running programs

> The additional problem with this is that the fan is going on every minute or so. The heatsink looks clean, but maybe new thermal grease should be applied to the cpu.
Yes, maybe the thermal grease must be renewed if you have already cleaned your notebook. After this everything should work normally.

You have no chance to fix this problem at home, you need professional help. After a wrong update you can not simply reset the BIOS. Taking out the battery won't solve your problem, it works only if the BIOS is not damaged.

To be honest you can be happy that your notebook works because many people have had bad luck after not successful BIOS update.

In my opinion you should not ?play? with BIOS updates. At the end you will damage BIOS update and your notebook will not start at all. Maybe you should contact Toshiba service provider and clarify this. Ask for help. They should do it for you. If something goes wrong it will not be your fault.

Be careful with this. It is just my opinion and advice for you. Don?t change well running system.

I recently did a Bios update from Toshiba website and later realised it was for SP10E models.

Well my system didn't crash. Does the model number (part no) change if you update with a Bios version not meant for your system?

My system is still under warranty but the new model number/serial number combo is shown as invalid global entitlement database. My USB ports are not working any more after it showed a power surge message.

I need goto the service center. Is there any way to retrive my originial model no and part no?

Any help will be highly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P10-874: Does wrong BIOS update change the serial number?

A "wrong" Biosupdate neither erases nor replaces the modelnumber of your machine. So you don?t have to worry about when you give the machine to a sevice center, they have the possibility to retrieve your serialnumber with their system and figure out the modelnumber of your machine.

Regarding your USB-ports: send the machine to your local service-center and don?t worry about the modelnumber-stuff. Your machine is still in warranty and since they will approximately change your system pcb, your worries about the wrong bios is needless.

By the way, i cannot imagine that you have earnest a wrong bios flashed, since the machine during the biosupdate ususally shouts if you try to flash a wrong bios on it.

I have a Satellite L850-0C9 laptop and Toshiba Service Station is recommending I install the new BIOS update labelled "Satellite Pro C850 BIOS Update - v6.50".

Should I install this as its not the same model as my laptop,
If not why is Service Station recommending I install it?

Answer:Satellite L850/0C9: Toshiba Service Station recommending wrong BIOS update?

I assume this is your notebook and these are all the drivers and BIOS available for this notebook model:

The latest BIOS is v6.50 and it looks to be the right one.
The Pro C850 seems to belongs to the same series so possibly the BIOS is the same.

However, the BIOS update is always an sensitive procedure and from my point of view it?s not really necessary if you don?t have an serious problems.

Dear my friend,

I am very sad to have a fail on BIOS update. Now, my machine (Satellite A210 MS5) couldn't start. I am trying to reflash it using the Crisis Recovery Disk method. I need the original BIOS Version.: 1.00. Does anybody have this version and send to me? Many thanks! My email is [email protected]

Do you have some experience on this issue? How can I recover my BIOS?

Thanks again

Answer:Re: Satellite A210-MS5 - I need the original BIOS

Hi buddy!

Sorry but I haven?t good news for you. On the Toshiba website you can only download the newest BIOS and older BIOS versions are only for authorized service providers available.
Furthermore a BIOS downgrade can only be done from an ASP.

So in your case I would go to the nearest ASP that you can find on the Toshiba website and ask for help. The technicians can help you: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

Good luck!

I have Toshiba Satellite A210 (part number: PSAEL) and after the BIOS upgrade to version 1.8 fan activity has dramatically increased. Version 1.9 acts the same and the fan noise which they produces drives me mad.

Is there any place where I could find some older BIOS version (1.7 or older) for my laptop?
Or is there anybody who has downloaded and saved some older BIOS revision for this model, and is willing to send it to me?

Answer:Satellite A210 - need BIOS 1.7 or older

Have you tested it with version 5.20? I have installed it on my Vista preinstalled P200 and I am pretty satisfied. I also use options to change cooling method and also BALANCED power saver profile.

As far as I know when Toshiba offer new BIOS version the old one is not available and you can get it from authorized service provider. If you want make a call and ask.

I need your help.

I must downgrade BIOS from 1.80 to previous version. I haveproblem with my soundcard (dont recognize the device now).

Answer:BIOS downgrade on Satellite A210-183

It is not possible to downgrade the BIOS version because only the newest BIOS is available on the Toshiba European driver page.

As far as I know an ASP (authorized service provider) would be able to downgrade the BIOS.

However, the new BIOS which is available on the Toshiba page should not make any troubles.
In your case I would firstly recommend accessing the BIOS and to set it to the default settings.

Hi all,
I have satellite A210 - 19a and I found a new bios version 1.70 win on toshiba website. Is there somewhere written what exactly does it fix?? I?ve got bios version 1.50 now and my pc is running fine so I am not sure if it is good to install it. I am afraid some strange things could happen and I know that I cant return back old bios, or can I?

Answer:Question about bios 1.70-win on Satellite A210-19

Unfortunately, Toshiba doesn?t publish any details about BIOS improvements.

But note buddy; if your notebook runs correctly without any troubles then a BIOS update is not necessary. You should know that a BIOS update is always risky. Wrong update procedure or wrong BIOS could damage the ROM module.
Therefore an BIOS update should be done ONLY as a last resort!!!

In such situation you should contact nearest Toshiba service provider and they can do it for you. All I know is that Toshiba has several different methods for BIOS password removal.

Answer:Satellite A210-199 - (PSAFGE) - Error in the BIOS

Sorry mate but it?s very difficult to understand your message.
What I could understand is that you have some BIOS problem.

BIOS is an very serious theme? Issue with BIOS are not easy to solve since in most cases the EPROM module where the BIOS is stored must be re-flashed using special BIOS crisis disk. In worst cases there could be an serious motherboard problem and this would mean that motherboard has to be replaced.

If the notebook would no pass Toshiba splash screen, the POST (power on self test) could not be passed and this means that there must be serious hardware problem.

Unfortunately, some issue requires additional help from service engineer.

Hello everyone!

long time unsuccessfully looking for original BIOS for my Sattelite A210-1AO PSAELE-03Q00FRU (Vista32bit preinstalled).

Unfortunately i updated it and laptop lost possibility to disable.
VERY noisy DWD-ROM (TS-L632H) via BIOS (but it definitely worked with original BIOS)
It is also impossible to switch it off via device manager (tried several times).

I have looked for BIOS everywhere i could (yes, i tried Toshiba Support & Download for Europe, USA, Canada, China, Russia - NO Sattelite A210 PSAELE BIOS in the lists, the same for A200 PSAELE).

Wrote to Toshiba Russia support - no result. the point is i do not know original bios version for my model, so i have tried BIOS versions 1.1, 1.4, 1.5, 1.8, 1.9, 2.0, 2.3 - no result.
The last idea is to remove DVD-ROM physically but it is rough solution.

So where can i find that BIOS? or can you recoomend a really customer friendly toshiba support office?
thanks in advance!

I have downloaded the latest XP BIOS from the Toshiba website, as I have downgraded to XP from Vista.

My A210 has BIOS v1.70 (for Vista) installed.

The XP BIOS I downloaded is only for Winphlash, and stops trying to install as the current BIOS is different from that to be installed.

Is there a way I can download a version to install from a boot CD, or any other way of installing from Winphlash.

We have a A210-1B3 - PSAFHE-01500PEN - running Vista that had a hard disk failure.
We replaced the old SATA disk (250Gb) with a 500Gb SATA disk and used the Recovery disk to install Vista and the Toshiba specific software. We plan to restore our data from backup one Vista is installed.

Here lies the problem. We installed the new hard disk, ran the recovery and after rebooting, we got an error sating Windows could not configure the hardware and then reboots. I suspect that the new disk isn't being recognised by Vista. I've looked around and it has been suggested to set the SATA setting to Compatible in BIOS. However, the BIOS (V1.5) does not have any options for this.

So, can anyone suggest anything please? Any ideas where I can get the lastest BIOS update (pref one that allows me to create a bootdisk and update from DOS)? Any help appreciated as it has completely stumped me.

My aunt was having problems with her A210 so she bought herself a new one and gave me the old one. The problems she was having was the computer kept randomly shutting down. Hey guys

on my Toshiba Satellite A210 I have a BIOS password, which i have no clue what it may be. One day when I turned on my laptop, it came up with a blank black screen with a blue rectangle in the middle saying "Enter Password". I tried entering my Windows Login password, but this didn't work.

After 3 times of trying password the laptop will switch itself off. No one in my house uses my pc, and even if they did they wouldn't know how to do something like this anyway. Also, i have seen on other forums that this has happened to people for no reason.

One other thing, I would try one of the BIOS reset programs like KeyDisk or CmosPWD but if I put a CD, DVD, USB Flash Drive, etc, in my pc and press F12 for boot menu, nothing happens so I can't do that!

Plz help, I cant use my PC and i am currently on my sisters pc!!!

This is very strange? ?:|
Never heard about passwords which appear automatically without doing any action?

Anyway, let?s talk about solution proposals;

Hey, wondering if anyone can help here ...

Currently have a Toshiba Equium A210-1AS with BIOS version 1.80 ver 1.00PARTTBL 4/8/2008.

Since the BIOS was updated some time ago to this version 1.80 the computer has become hot very quickly and therefore performance of the laptop has decreased.
I looked on the Toshiba support site and the only version upgrade to 2.00 was not compatible with this notebook.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. The short model number is PSAFJE

Answer:Equium A210-1AS - After BIOS update it becomes hot

I have checked the Toshiba website and I didn?t see any BIOS update for the Equium A210 PSAFJE. That means a BIOS update was never released for this notebook normally.

For me it sounds like that you have updated the BIOS with a version for another Equium A210. So you should go to an authorized service provider. The technicians can install the right BIOS version for you (downgrade).

Why shouldn?t it be a good idea? I mean if your machine needs PC2-5300 DIMMS and you have some available then there doesn?t exist a problem. It doesn?t matter if you take the memory from another machine.

If the memory from another machine works and you feel familiar to exchange them then do it.

I've tried finding the same issue but unable to.

I had to reinstall Windows Vista after errors with programs (the recovery was useless so fress install was needed) and it all worked fine. I downloaded all the updates and drivers from the Toshiba drivers section, I installed the ATI graphics driver, then the BIOS update.
While that was in progress the laptop shut down, now when I turn it on, the fan on the graphics card works, the battery, power and charge lights come on but the screen stays off (not even backlit). I tried an external monitor and the same problem still. Given that the screen worked fine untill the update im guessing its something the BIOS did, or the graphics card update.

Hi All,

Really hoping someone can help me with this.

My old HDD was failing so i cloned the entire drive before it failed. - Just in time too.

I ordered a new drive - its a WD scorpio black - Advanced format.

Unfortunately I'm unable to recover my image to this new drive.

Also I'm unable to do a re-install with the original recover cd also as it doesn't have service pack 1 and that means it cant recognise the HD either.

Anyway id prefer to be able to restore my image and not do a re-install anyway if possible.

So my question is this:

Is there a bios update i can apply to my pc other than the 2.00 version which is available that will include options for changing the disk options from ide - ahci ?

This is the only fix i can think of - bearing in mind i don't have an OS installed so alignment tools are not an option also another fix; the - Intel Rapid Storage Technology drivers wont work as i have an AMD athlon processor.

So is there any BIOS i can flash my computer with to enable mentioned options?

I do have a method to flash the bios with an OS so that's not a problem.

Also any other suggestions to get a work-around on this more than welcome.

Thanks : )

I have just installed the latest Bios update for my Equium A210, as this was the first time \i have ever attempted this \i watched carefully and all appeared to go correctly but, when the notebook restarted, it beeped and showed a checksum error, I chose the option to restart with 'Default Settings'

Since doing this I have had problems signing into MSN Live Messenger and wondered if this could be something to do with the Bios update, also is it possible to 'go back' to the old Bios somehow?

Answer:Equium A210 - after BIOS update problems signing into MSN Live Messenger

Hi there,

your issue is actually not an machine related problem. The "Checksum Error" is normal after every BIOS update since the checksum of the BIOS which consists the the BIOS settings and the BIOS version is not correct due an altered BIOS version.
So, next time you update your BIOS you will get a "BIOS checksum error" again. Don?t worry, it?s nothing serious.

Regarding your Messenger:
1. Uninstall the messenger
2. Download the latest version from the MSN site
3. Install the new one
4. Have fun

You can find the Touchpad driver here:

Firstly remove the driver from Control Panel -> Programs and Features
Then download and install the latest version.

If you have Logitech mouse drivers or other 3rdparty mouse/keybiard drivers installed, remove those as well.

a friend gave me his HP DV6500 Notebook to fix it. He said it made an update and then for hours nothing happened. He shut it and started again.

I could see that it tried to recover 2 times. The second time it was successful but it somehow resetted or returned the Vista to a fresh install!!! His data was locked in a previous User account, I backed it up on a usb-stick with a linux live cd.

I can't make a reinstall because now a bluescreen always appears even when I boot from Vista DVD.

ntoskrnl.exe corrupt when try to boot vista in the normal way.
How can I fix that without being able to use the repair option of the DVD?
Sorry, the title of the thread is wrong. I figured out already that the BIOS version is for an Intel. So everything is ok with the BIOS actually.

Answer:Solved: HP DV6500 Notebook wrong BIOS update by HP update function?

Ok, I could fix it after following instructions from this page:

The Txf-log had to be removed and afterwards I was able to use the repair function of the Vista DVD again.

I have a Satellite L300. I do not believe that I changed (upgraded) the BIOS.
I have had problems with Vista and with getting the Wireless working on XP.

When I last checked the BIOS and tried to upgrade it I discovered that the most recent BIOS upgrade on the Toshiba site is 1.40, whereas the BIOS that I have installed is 1.50 and I am not permitted to install a BIOS with a lower version number.

The BIOS seems messed up.
Some items are greyed out and can't be accessed or modified.

Apart from sending the laptop back to Toshiba does anyone have a suggestion on how to re-install the correct BIOS 1.40.

many thanks

Answer:Do I have a wrong BIOS on Satellite L300?

Whats wrong with the Wireless?

Did you install Vista yourself or is it a factory image?

And what BIOS did you install exactly?
I mean normally you can?t install the wrong version? As far as I know this will be checked before you update it from BIOS installer program.

Did you load the default settings in BIOS after update? I mean theoretically the BIOS version could be correct but you have just forgotten this.

Check this!!!

I have a Satellite M100. Yesterday when I switched on my notebook the clock sets time to 2010. After I set the time back, it either lacks a few minutes or went back an hour within 1-2 hours after I reset the time.

I checked the window time with BIOS using promt but it is the same. I set the daylight saving correctly and because I am using my uni network there might be restriction for me to sync the clock. I am using windows XP home.

Please some one help suggest what I should do to stop my clock from acting wierdly?

Answer:Satellite M100: BIOS time is wrong

I don?t know if this will help but please be sure the CMOS battery is not empty. Check user?s manuals and there you will find info how long CMOS battery need to be full charged.

If you are permanent online be also sure that the notebook time will be permanent synchronize with internet time server. This option you can find under ?Date and Time Properties?.

My Toshiba laptop is SATELLITE C650-12E
I find a new version of bios update 2.10 Win (2/1/2014)

I download it but the version is "bios-Win 1.30"; in Toshiba archive extractor*
then i run it say "the bios is not for your Note Book PC .the version of Rom file is not newer than that of bios".

What can I do?

Answer:Wrong BIOS version for Satellite C650-12E

Yes, you are right.

The version on Toshiba EU driver page is reported as +v2.10-win+ but within the package you can find the +v1.30-win+

I recommend you to check and to download this package in next few days.
Hopefully this small issue will be solved as fast as possible.

Hi there again!

Now with a new and weird matter.

We all know that old say... "If it is not break, don't fix it". And if you put it into more informatic terms, "specially if it is a BIOS".

Yes, we all know that the BIOS is something quite dellitate to handle. For some reason we normally feel like if we were handling something like nitro-glycerine, or some radioactive product. And this is because we all know what is being put in risk in that moment: our (or sometimes others) computer, the full system could end as dead as some pieces of metal, plastic, and wires.

Well. I passed through all of that more than ten times in my life, and only once it went wrong. But since that old motherboard was already dead, It was not important. But I allways was EXTREMELY care. I allways cross checked everything before doing anything, allways got a backup and a way to restore that backup... and allways did this in COMPAQ systems, that were prepared that way. Updating a BIOS was just about preparing a disk, turn on the PC with the disk in the diskette drive, and wait. And if you didn't like the results, you simply click "return to previus BIOS" and that was it... very nice. And easy.

Few days ago, a friend brought me a Toshiba Satellite 1410-604 to solve some issues that were driving him crazy. After removing an expired Norton Internet Security, install avast and scan, I found more than one hundred files infected with a wide variety of virus, malware, t... Read more

Answer:Satellite 1410-604 - BIOS update > Incorrect BIOS update in the web?

Hi Fenix,

wow... it tooked very long time to read your post....

Maybe I can help you.

The Bios in the Web is the right one. So you have downloaded the correct version of the Bios.

The Askiris you have used is from Toshiba America which has most times not the exact models as Toshiba Europe.
That should be the reason, why the readme does not contain the European modelname.

I would try to make a fresh Bios update using the traditional Bios update.

Copy the files to the diskette, put it into the FDD, press and hold the Tab key while power on the notebook.
After the notebook has shut down, press and hold the key on the left side of the space-bar while power on the notebook again and wait until it powers off again.

If your notebook does not power on anymore, maybe the RAM is defect?

So, if the use of the traditional Bios and/or changing the memory does not help and your notebook is still dead you should go to an ASP, but this will cost money.

I have my fourth Toshiba notebook now and I had never problems with the Bios updates.

The 1410 is very old I think, so before going to an ASP, I would buy a new one ;)

best regards,

I hope this is posted in the right place.

I think I have messed up my computer big time and need some advice.

I was trying to update the BIOS on my Medion 8838 because I wanted to use more than 4GB of ram.

I downloaded the BIOS update from the Medion website booted the computer into DOS and applied the update.

Everything seemed to run smoothly with the update and when it finished my computer rebooted but just kept on turning on for about 2 seconds and then turning off again like it is stuck in a loop.

Now whenever I plug in the computer this loop of turning on and off starts again.

I have tried resetting the CMOS but to no avail.

I am seeking advice on what I can do.

Is this fixable?
Do I need a new motherboard?
Is my computer dead?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Answer:something wrong after bios update

Hi ironman9,
Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!
If you can still enter the F2 for BIOS or F12 for the boot menu, It means that the options are still active and I think this is not a cause for Concern.
I have checked most of the G580 online and all are not showing these message/prompt anymore.
Check here
I think this is how the recent BIOS is configured.
I tried Checking the BIOS of the G580 and I see no settings to enable this back.
Just make sure that the Options are still responsive,
Turn OFF your computer and Turn it Back ON and start tapping F2 or F12.

A few days ago i found an update for my BIOS. It was installing without any problems, but around halfway of the intallation, a power surge caused my computer to shutdown. When the computer booted back up I got this message. This is all I get, I can't access the BIOS or anything pass this
I tried removing the CMOS battery, I also tried to cross the jumpers, all with no luck. This only leads me to believe the BIOS itself is corrupted. I heard there is a way to fix the BIOS by using something called flashing. Could someone show me how to do this?

Answer:Bios update gone wrong

Flashing your BIOS is what you where doing. Depending on your system you may be able to use the Boot CD to restore the BIOS to it's factory default. If your PC is older then you will need to contact the manufacture (or a local non big box repair shop) and get a new BIOS ROM chip.

I bought a new dv7t quad edition HP laptop recently. I moved the 750gb 7200rpm hard drive to the secondary slot and was using a Crucial 256gb solid state drive as the boot drive. The HP help center told me that I needed a BIOS update, so I let it do its thing, and soon I had a laptop that would show nothing but a blank screen. I called HP and they said it was the hard drive, so I switched them and I have a working computer again. However, I need to be able to switch back to the solid state drive. How do I get rid of whatever the BIOS update did to the hard drive? If you need me to post more info about the laptop, I can.Thank you for your time.

Answer:Bios update gone wrong

I made the leap forward to SSD with 2 laptops and 1 desktop. I had to prep my one OCZ Agility 90GB prior to OS installation, but my system would boot up past the post diagnostics with just an error of No OS Found. The Toshiba System Restore utility would boot and come up with No Hard Drives Detected  as for it was having a hard time finding the SSD and only option was to exit the system restore. So your not getting a successful post ( HP Logo or detailed boot stats )?I'd perform the flash to the BIOS with the original hard drive installed. If the BIOS is already at the version you are trying to flash it to, it wont hurt the computer and it will probably show a screen that shows existing BIOS Flash Version and the Flash version to be applied. If they both match you can exit the flash process as for you are already at the latest version.*The prep that I had to perform to my SSD was that I had to connect it through a SATA to USB cable and make it act as an external hard drive. I then created a NTFS partition on it and then formatted it using Windows 7, which my Laptops OS is, and then I was then able to install the SSD to my laptop, and then boot off of my USB stick to install the OS to the SSD using the Toshiba System Restore Utility that I made before yanking the original hard drive. The restore utility now was able to find the SSD and install properly. This installation process deletes the partition I made when prepping the drive as for Windows 7 wants its default st... Hi,There has been a long thread on XP restarting on its own and seems it is affecting alot of people. For me it occurs when using 3D applications.I have tried just about everything to cure this and one thing i haven't done is a BIOS update.I read today in an earlier thread that this has done the trick for somebody with a similar problem although it was a different Mobo.My PC is under warrantee so i have rung them and they told me to download a prgram called "Burnin", it tests your hardare for faults and when using the latest version of the Radeon 9000 pro driver the test failed on 2D graphics unable to "draw shape". When i use a much earlier driver (could be the first one) the test passes and the restarts are very seldom apart from a message saying "the program has to close" which dont seem to be as drastic and not nearly as often.I mentioned all this to put you in the picture a bit.Final point is, i told Mesh what the results of the test were and the nature of the errors and he came back after a minute and confidently said "the problem is to do with either two things, the ram might be faulty or the Graphics card could be faulty and i would have to send the machine in to them". That is one thing i really wanted to avoid, he said i should have it back within 3 weeks but have heard that before! No faith, sorry.I mentioned a BIOS update and he wasn't to enthusiastic but said i could give it a go, so he directed me to the file at the asus website and i have downloaded to floppy. I... Well I've seriously stuffed up, I'll give you the long story so you get all the information

Well after I installed my 8800GT, I began having stuttering problems with a game, ut2004. Others had the problem and most say its a driver issue and will be fixed in the future, someone wrote to nvidia support and they suggested updating bios, chipset and getting a patch for the game, so I updated the chipset, 945p, easy then I went to update the bios, after downloading bios 3.7, a command prompt came up with lots of settings and commands and warnings, so I decided I'd play it safe and just do the msi live update. So I installed the msi update and its first update was to update my bios, as it finished it restarted my computer, everything seemed fine until my computer wouldn't go past the original POST page, the one with the motherboard logo on it. No beeps sounded and pressing tab or del opened a black page that says

AMIBIOS (C) 2005 American Megatrends, Inc

Intel (R) Core(TM) 2 CPU 6300 @ 1.86GHz , Speed:
(C) American Megatrends, Inc.

The page also has a live update symbol on the top right corner.

I have a hunch that the live update fed me the wrong bios, and thats why the computer won't boot. I dont have a floppy and putting my windows or motherboard cd in doesnt do a thing. Restarting doesnt and turning off and on doesnt. I have limited my options ... Read more

Hi, i was wondering if anyone had any advice.

Last night i updated my bios (ASUS M2N4-SLI), unfortunately during the update the power went off in the house when i boot now nothing happens, the keyboard and mouse are not even booting. There is power to the motherboard but i can?t get a boot screen or anything, is there any way that i can sort this out?

many thanks

Answer:BIOS update went wrong, need help please

Unfortunately there is little you can do if the flashing has failed. If the motherboard does not POST, you are most-likely looking at a paperweight. There may be a bit of hope if your mainboard has a chip socket (meaning you can physically pull the BIOS chip) but most are soldered right to the PCB. If you can remove the BIOS chip, you can send it to BIOSMAN where they will replace it and reflash the corrupt chip. I've used them before, it's a very good service.

As far as soldered goes, I'm afraid that's tough luck. Replace the motherboard.

Hello,This is my first time on a forum and I have no idea what "location" to select for this type of issue.  I will try to make this short and simple.  There were a bunch of updates from HP, one of which was a Bios update.  A bunch of others had issues updating.  Ever since then, my wifi keeps dropping, when my service and all other devices are fine.  I try to restart and it hangs there for hours, so I have to hold the power button to shut it off and turn it back on.  When I close my notebook, it will not go to sleep, hibernate or anything I set it to.  Instead it shuts the screen off, hard drive sounds as if it is still running and the computer heats up and power button light stays on.  Again, I have to hold the power button do shut it off.  I have a Windows 10 HP 14 Pavillion was advertised as windows 10 ready, so I don't think it is that since I did that update in July and this just started happening after the bios update.  Is anyone else having the same issues?  Any suggestions to anyone who may have resolved them?

Answer:bios update gone wrong

You could try a BIOS rollback to previous version.  1-Immediately after powering on start tapping the Esc key.2-When the menu appears, tap F2 for System Diagnostics.3-In the list of items will be BIOS or Firmware Management.Use the arrow key to move down & highlight it.Press Enter key.4-You should now have a Rollback BIOS option.Use arrow key again to highlight and press Enter key.

HELP - just updated BIOS, and PC re-started and seems to have given me fresh win7, with no access to files on desktop.
Luckily most files were backed-up to another HDD several weeks ago, but as I wasn't expecting this, I have lost plenty.
Any ideas how to recover, my files and previous windows setup?
Bearing in mind that I don't believe the HDD was wiped as it all happened very quickly.

Answer:BIOS update gone wrong

That does not sound like a bios issue. It sounds like something went wrong with Windows 7, or the drive is going bad.

Download Xubuntu 14.04 and burn the .iso to a DVD. Then run as a LiveDVD, to see if it shows with gparted, the Windows partitions, and files in them.

hello there recently i was working on a computer as a favor for someone. He told me he couldn't get on the internet and had some malware so i cleaned out the malware and started to update his drivers from the Hp website by the way it is a Hp pavilion a6412p with windows 7 32 bit. While updating the drivers i noticed an update for bios i preceded to download and install it after being prompted to restart i couldn't get back onto windows ever time the loading screen comes up for windows 7 it just restarts. So i tried to load it in safe mode but the same thing happens were it just restarts and i even tried to load it in last good known configuration but that doesn't seem to work. usually i would just reformat the disk but he runs his business from this computer so that is out of the question and i forgot to make a backup since i thought this was gonna be an easy job so i messed up big time. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer:Bios Update went wrong

Well, at least you did not brick the computer because it looks like you can start loading Windows. Can you access BIOS at startup? If you can, the BIOS update probably worked.

You can download the Windows Recovery Disk and burn the iso with something like Imgburn. Boot the CD and try to do a Startup Repair.

After kids have used laptop when logging into BIOS password I get "invalid Password" I don't think they been into BIOS and changed it, so the only thing I can think of is the language has been changed.

I've had this before but have always managed to log in.
Is it possible from XP to change the key board layout?

If so to what?

Is there a work round, or is it about ?150 repair.

Thanks for looking in.

Answer:Wrong BIOS Password at start-up on Satellite A series

The keyboard language layout can be changed in Windows XP.
For that you have to go to
control panel -> Regional and languages Options -> Languages tab -> details
There you can set an additional or new keyboard language.
You can also use a short key SHIFT+ALT to switch between the languages.

But the main point is that this settings work only while running Windows XP OS.
In BIOS the layout couldn?t be changed...
So it?s hard to believe that the kids changed the keyboard layout?.

For me it?s not explainable why the BIOS password has been changed or why wrong BIOS message appears?

However, if you are not able to boot the notebook due to the BIOS password then you will have to contact the ASP in your country for BIOS remove?
You will have to pay for this service but I don?t believe that it?s expensive?

I download a wrong BOIS driver on my notebook. This make it change the window which appear in the opening of it and when I tried to download update it said that there was an error to run it. As the update is not for the current use driver.

So I ask for what driver to download and how to make a update for it.

There is also another question: the "FN" button does not work before what has happened to the BOIS.

Waiting for your help.

Answer:Wrong BIOS driver on my Satellite P200 (PSPBG)

I?m afraid I didn?t understand your issue exactly.

You said you have downloaded a wrong BIOS driver?! ?:|
I assume you mean the BIOS.

The Toshiba European page provides BIOS for the Satellite P200 (PSPBG).
I?ve checked the driver page and at this time the BIOS version 1.70-WIN is available which was released on 13/09/07

This package contains a setup.exe. You can start the BIOS update executing this file.
But please ensure the following:

- Notebook is undocked.
- Notebook is connected to the mains.
- Notebook must be in boot mode and not resume mode.
- Remove any PC Cards.

That?s very important to ensure that the BIOS update would function.

Yesterday, I upgraded my BIOS from 1.90 to 2.20 for I apparently downloaded the wrong a100 BIOS for my A100 ( PSAA ...)

Now the computer comes on ( no screen) then a few seconds later shuts off and comes back on again ( continuously) I am under warranty ( and the computer is in the shop) but I was wondering what to do if Toshiba doesnt honor the warranty ?

I?m sorry to say it but it seems you have no choice?.
You have to ask the authorizes service partner in your country for an help? as far as I know the BIOS update mistakes are not covered by any warranty and you will have to pay a little tax for the fixing.

In worse case the motherboard must be replaced? :( but maybe you have a lucky escape and only the ROM chip must be flashed again?

hi --

i'm trying to fix my parents' pc (a gateway 507gr) which has been really unstable & unreliable for a few months. windows wouldn't boot properly, windows reinstalls wouldn't work. it'd boot into the bios ok, but that was about it.

in desperation yesterday, i decided to upgrade the bios, hoping to have a good foundation for reinstalling other stuff. i downloaded the files from intel's site (the board's a d915gag, with a p4 processor with hyperthreading), and did exactly what it said. now things are far worse than before.

intel gave several sets of directions for flashing the bios. the least invasive was to make a cd with this bootable .iso file, put it in the cd drive of the target pc, and boot it up. it did boot under that scenario, but instead of anything resembling the screenshots they showed in the instructions, it said something about the old bios id number, the new bios having a different number, and trying to install it, and then it went immediately to a c: prompt. for a few moments, the pc made these really quiet noises -- not hd sounds, but something somewhat similar (almost like sci-fi "electronic" sounds), but nothing ever happened. it wouldn't even boot into the bios after that.

another method intel gave for flashing was to download & copy this .bio file to a cd, put in into the drive of the target machine, and boot it up with the bios configuration jumper off, to force it into recov... Read more

I hoping someone can direct me to a fix for this issue.  Seems to me I can't be the only one having this particular issue. I downloaded the windows bios update utility and proceeded to update the BIOS.  The utility ran for 10 minutes and it just hung there.  Eventually I ended up rebooted the computer and once I did that the computer would not start again. One long been and two short beeps and this indicates a system board failure.  Here is what I did; 1. Updated bios in windows2. Computer would not start3. Unplugged power and removed battery4. Held power for multiple 30 seconds5. Disconnected battery under the keyboard (waited two hours before trying again) Any advice is very much appreciated. Shawn.
