Satellite A300D-11S - Keyboard and touchpad freezes

Question: Satellite A300D-11S - Keyboard and touchpad freezes

I have a lots of problems with my Satellite A300D-11S (for Adriatic region).

I have Windows 7 Ultimate with installed all drivers from Toshiba site. Everything works perfectly .... but..

When I first time power-on notebook, graphic driver cannot initialize, keyboard doesn't work, and touchpad is froozen. In this situation I can use external USB mouse and keyboard, Internet (WLAN,LAN), Sound. When I reebot the system, Windows 7 loads and works perfectly and I can work 3-4 hours. After turning off notebook and power-on after 30 minutes, 1 hour, or 6 hours, problem is still present again :(

Then I reinstalled all system from zero, use newest drivers update and problems is still present. I tried this 3 times, but I havent got idea what to do. Sometimes when I close lid of my notebook, and later when resuming from stand-by touchpad and keyboard are frozen.

Notebook have warranty but last time, service replaced mainboard and Cpu. Maybe notebook is defective?

Thnx, and sorry about gramatic errors

Preferred Solution: Satellite A300D-11S - Keyboard and touchpad freezes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

> graphic driver cannot initialize, keyboard doesn't work, and touchpad is froozen. In this situation I can use external USB mouse and keyboard, Internet (WLAN,LAN), Sound.
For me it sounds like that just the internal input devices (keyboard and touchpad) don?t work anymore and they should be replaced.
What do you think about this?

You can contact your authorized service provider. They can exchange both parts for you.
Check this!!!

Regarding your display driver issue you should update the driver and install latest BIOS version.

Did you install Windows 7 drivers in Win8?

That may be the problem.
You should hunt around for compatible Win8 drivers from newer models that support Win8.

Hi everyone. I have a problem.

When I used XP I turned touchpad off while I use mouse. Then I decided to install Win Vista and there is a problem. I forgot to turn it on before reinstaling. Therefore my touchpad is not working. Drivers are fine and tried to reinstall but it didn't help. Everything works fine except I cant turn on the touchpad.

Any ideas how to do that?

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A300D - How to activate the touchpad?

Have you installed Vista using Toshiba recovery installations DVD?
Does mouse work if you use external mouse?

When you install Vista with recovery image you will have ?factory settings? again and touchpad is not disabled by default. Check FN+F9 option and be sure touchpad is not disabled.

Please help me with this one!

I am pleased with my Satellite A300D-21W PSAHCE, apart that it came with windows vista (and battery life could be better). The guy in the shop said I could upgrade to Windows 7 so I did and I like Windows 7!

But the touchpad is not working! Have been looking around for solutions, but the problem seems that there arent even drivers for it on Toshibas webpage! I understand I need synaptics and Alps Electric drivers.
Have tried a few drivers from similar models but nooo luck at all.

Please, I want my touchpad to work! its a pain in the ### to connect a mouse all the time! (plus its hogging up a usb port)

On the first install of Vista on my A300D-161 I could scroll with my touchpad by moving my finger from right above to right down on the touchpad,
Now I reinstalled Vista and I installed the utility but it doesn't have a option for scrolling.

How/what now?

if you still have it, check the Toshiba driver folder its usually C:\TOSAPINS, or just check the recovery CDs for the folder

Have you tested an external mouse on the notebook?

In your case I would try to update the touchpad driver. You can find it on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Download Drivers

Remove the old driver, restart the notebook and then install the new driver.

I use a Satellite A300D series notebook and whilst at home i use a UBS keyboard on it, but once the laptop is used without a USB keyboard only some of the keys seem to work i.e. i get the number 6 when i press the I key.

I thought this could be because the USB keyboard might not have been stopped properaly when i disconnected it and the notebook thought that it was still there but even after stopping the USB keyboard the same thing happens!!

Any answers to my problem???

I am new user for this page but I bought my laptop five months ago. A300D 17F. And from this time it is not productive. let me say something;

1. although I removed Toshiba's tempro program and other unnecessary programmes it is opening about 1,5 minute and also I closed the background prg.
2. biggest problem is that Windows explorer is so slow. it is freezing when I want to search for some files.
3. when I surfing in a video site like youtube, if I move the mouse anywhere on the monitor, it is again freezing
4. why 4 GB RAM is working so slow?
5. have I got a hardware problem? Because, I had made recovery for a few times!
6. while the other laptops which are have low performance make a small game, mine is not.

I am so angry for another problem. How can I connect to the Toshiba's online support because I did not found yet?

I am grateful from the now. PLEASE HELP MASTERS

Does the freezing happen directly after running Recovery? Or does it happen after you remove the programs?

I've had an A300D-15B for about 2 months and whilst using it I noticed that the touchpad was either hyper sensitive or not responsive at all.
I tried adjusting all the settings (and it works fine when the advanced settings window is open!) but go back to a document or Firefox window and the cursor sticks, wiggles about or drags or highlights things I don't want it to. The driver is up-to-date.

After much trial and error, I've found out that it is fine when working off battery power, but plug into the mains and it's almost unusable.

Anyone else suffer this?

I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country and checking if this touchpad issue would appear using a new AC adaptor.
I read here in the forum about the similar issue and the user solved this using another, new AC adaptor!

It?s really strange but this should be checked definitely!

I reinstalled the driver but it's still not working. What could the problem be? Help plz. Thanks

Answer:Satellite A300D-126 the keyboard is not working at all

What?s wrong exactly?
You have reinstalled the drivers???
What drivers do you mean?

The keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS and it cannot be reinstalled separately.

If your keyboard doesn?t work properly then either the software doesn?t run as it should or the hardware (keyboard) is faulty.

You could try to reinstall the OS using the Toshiba HDD recovery to check if the issue is related to the software.
If the keyboard will not work after this procedure, then an hardware issue could be possible.

My husband managed to dislodge a keycap on my keyboard, and broke the white scissor clip that holds hit on...(don't ask me how)

He spoke to the authorised service centre here in Norway, and they sent us replacement scissor clips (actually they sent an old non-functioning keyboard) but the clips are of a different design to the ones on my laptop.

I was wondering if anyone has an idea of the model/serial number of the keyboard used in the Satellite Pro A300D-151 (PSAK9E) so I can get the correct replacement part.

I really don't want to have to replace the whole keyboard when it's just 1 of the scissor clips that is broken...the laptop is only 5 months old.

Here are some photos of the scissor clip in question & the where it attaches to the keyboard (sorry about the quality)

Answer:Satellite Pro A300D - What is the model number for the keyboard?

Sorry buddy but it?s not possible to exchange some single keys on a keyboard so in this case you must replace the complete keyboard. But normally this should not be so difficult.
Either you exchange the keyboard yourself or you sent the notebook to the authorized service provider.

The model number for the keyboard is not known to me but contact your ASP!! They can order all Toshiba parts and they should know the right part number.

I have a problem with my Satellite A300D: When I press the "y" or "5", i get a "y5" and when I press "n" or "b" i get a "nb".
If i press and hold y or 5, it appears y5yyy... and with n and b I get nbnnn...

What you think could be the problem? Keyboard? Or some other hardware controler?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300D - strange keyboard problem

It?s hard to say why this happens but in your case I would connect an external keyboard and check this. Can you notice the same behavior?

If not I think the case is clear: Your internal keyboard doesn?t work properly and you need a new one. Therefore you can contact an authorized service provider in your country.

By the way: Have you checked the keyboard input language?

Hello Everyone,

My problem started after updating windows 8.1 to windows 10, of course!
First the touchpad just stopped working, for no reason.

My solution was to uninstall the drive and restart the laptop. And from time to time I had to do this proceed. Two weeks ago windows updated, and the touchpad issue's gone. . Unfortunately, another one appeared.

The feature "mousekey", which is turn it on at ease access to use the numeric keys to use them as a mouse, It's turning itself on. And doesn't matter how many times I turn it off, few seconds and it's on again.

I've tried uninstalling the drive, which after windows the last updating was "ELAN".

Then I replaced by the Toshiba drivers, which is "Synaptic", and uninstalled the drives ,the problem is the same. Because of that, I can't use my numeric key, which is annoying!! If anyone can come up with something I will be grateful.

Hi all, first Post.

I am a retired I.T. Technician & have worked on computers since about 1984, & on Laptops since 2001.

This topic is mainly about the L40-18Z, but 2 other Models are mentioned.

I have come across a problem with the TouchPad on a Toshiba L40-18Z, (& also an A100-338) which are both running fresh installs of 32 Bit Vista Home Premium, but not from a Recovery Partition or Dvd.
Same Problem as well on an L300-25K running Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Touchpad occasionally freezes. Sometimes you can move the cursor arrow, but very slowly.

All 3 work fine, straight away with a Usb Mouse.

ALL the latest drivers from the Toshiba website are installed on ALL 3 Laptops.
ALL Updates are installed via Microsoft.
ALL have the latest Bios Updates.

The L300-25K & the A100-338, I think I've solved the problem by installing the Value Added Package, but the VAP software is not listed in the drivers section for the L40.
I tried both the L300 & A100 VAP's on the L40 but they won't run.

Strangely, on the L40, I reduced the screen resolution from 1280 x 800 to 1280 x 768 & the problem seems to have gone, at least for the past day or so !!!

Also, I found that unplugging the Power Cord 'cured' the problem on all 3 Laptops straight away.

I tried powering all 3 Laptops without Batteries at the time the fault occured, but this made no difference, so the batteries must be okay.

The L300 is my own Personal Laptop & the oth... Read more

Touchpad still erratic & random freezing.

I found that C:\Program Files\Synaptics\SynTPEnh.exe was 'Blocked' so I moved the file to the Desktop, unblocked it, then moved it back.

Tried unticking the boxes for animated icon etc. but still the same.

So far, so good..........................

1 hour later & froze again.
Turned off mains to stop it charging & worked instantly.
Turned mains back on & works perfectly !?!?!?

Really baffled here.

I am super going bananas from my Dell Inspiron 700m. I think it may be my fault as I will soon explain but let's first get to the problem. I am extremely tempted to throw it against the wall at times. The touchpad mouse and keyboard freezes simultaneously right in the middle of either playing a game or just using the computer for other non-game activities.

The mouse will freeze and I won't be able to type anything at all for a period of a few minutes. When the mouse works again, it may behave erratically for a few seconds and then start functioning again normally. The keyboard freezes and will behave normally once the mouse works again; but, if I touch either before the keyboard returns, then it may cause the keyboard to behave erratic and remain that way forcing me to restart the computer.

As I stated before, I believe it may be my fault. I have tons of music files on my computer and my hard drive is nearly tapped for space. I'm praying it's not a hardware problem b/c I don't have the money to get it repaired. I am a single mom with a very expensive son and can't afford any alternatives. I hope someone can help me find a solution to the problem within reason.

I have no idea how to fix this. Every time I press a button on the keyboard, my mouse freezes for a second or so. When I hold a button, the mouse won't move until a second after I let go. This is really annoying, because if I try to run any games like SRB2, I can't walk and look at the same time. I didn't put this in the Gaming forum, because it also affects outside of games too.

Is there any way I can fix this? I'll give information if asked.

**1) I've had it for less than a month and it's been an unpleasant experience from the get go. The touchpad confuses me, I assume it's supposed to make things like scrolling and zooming easier but it becomes inconvenient and annoying. And even now looking at the mouse/touchpad options, there's only a choice between the r/l clicking, scrolling speed, and delay. If the zoom is spefically enabled for things like Chrome etc, is there a way to turn it off. The touchpad also goes in opposite directions at times or shows up at a random point on the screen (and the external mouse will be unplugged so it's not that). It also freezes/lags. It's a problem that's annoying but can be fixed with the external mouse - but it seems wrong to have to spend extra money buying one just because the touchpad has issues. **2) The keyboard...I can't find any way around this (is there an onscreen keyboard?) and I'm just glad it doesn't happen often but the keyboard freezes and not just in Word, it also freezes when I'm trying to fill in the login page, on google etc - anywhere that needs typing. **3) After the laptop freezes on games like skyrim - presumably from the exertion of running it on low resolution  - pulling up task manager just freezes that as well, and with task manager frozen I have no idea how to fix except for trying to reboot or force close through logging off... At least the fan works really well.Any help/tips welcome.

Hi um... My notebook HP pavillion was working fine this morning, but when I came home two hours later my computer stopped functioning correctly. Before I left, I downloaded a program called Digsby that I had never used before and then left. When I came back my computer wouldn't stop "ding"ing and was spewing random letters and numbers. Alarmed, I forced shut off my computer. At the part where the computer asked me if I wanted to go into safe mode or start up correctly, I couldn't move anything, go up, or even press enter, so I had to wait before it loaded. After it'd load up, my touchpad wouldn't respond and I had to use an external mouse. Then I discovered that when typing, I also could not use the key Caps Lock, or else my whole keyboard freezes up. At that time, any keys would not function, including strangly the sound system in the computer. I've tried to use system restore to go back to an earlier time but that didn't help with anything at all. I ran Webroot Antivirus Spysweeper to no avial. Not until after I went back to the earliest time that I could and ran Webroot again did it find anything. But even after the virus got caught nothing still worked.

Hi can anybody give myself and my friend some help, we both have brand new A200-28P laptops and she has just experienced this weird problem with the touchpad that I first noticed about a week after I bought mine. I was happily using the touchpad when all of a sudden it lit up blue and totally froze and no matter what I did it wouldn't respond and I had to force the laptop into shutdown(via Ctrl, Alt and Del buttons) to get the touch pad to respond again and it did this to me about 3 times and I thought maybe it was just me doing something wrong as I don't get on well with touchpads, find them hard to use especially when playing computer games so I bought an external mouse but it has lit up this blue once more since then and that was the other night when I forgot about my external mouse and moved something using the touchpad but luckily because of my external mouse could carry on and not have to shut laptop down.

Now this afternoon my friend has just sent me a text explaining why she logged off as her touchpad just did this blue light up thing and froze. There is no warning its going to do it, one minute its fine next its blue and frozen, anybody else experienced this and if so how do you fix it as couldn't find any help at all on the knowledge base or in my troubleshooting bit on the manual.

Answer:Satellite A200-28P: touchpad goes blue and freezes

well if its anything like my laptop then don't worry. If you tap the top right of the pad where you see the 2 arrows then the touchpad lights up blue as this allows you to use shortcuts and control volume with it. If it goes blue, to get it off again just tap the top right corner.

Right I have upgraded the hard drive to 500GB, added windows ultimate, added the drivers one by one and am happy.

The touchpad is horrid yet drivers are up to date and the options in the system are cool yet it either freezes or is difficult to use - counteracted by use of a mouse but why does this happen and can it be sorted? I do not get problems using an USB mouse but the touchpad itself is problematic yet before the changes it was okay.

And two more things. MUCH more important: Can I change the CPU? - it is horrible. Thinking Intel i7 or quad core Intel. How so, if so? I would think I could change it. RAM and HDD is upgradable.

Can I upgrade the graphics card? if so, how?
This is much more unlikely to be upgradable but worth a punt at questioning.

Please get back to me, I need to perfect this machine... :P

Answer:Satellite T130-13Q - Touchpad freezes and CPU upgrade

I don?t understand why you bought this notebook if you want to upgrade everything?

Regarding CPU and graphic card upgrade there are enough threads here in forum. Just use the forum search and both is not possible. You loose the warranty and other CPU?s are not pretested.

Regarding your touchpad: Why is it horrid? If the drivers are up to date you should check the preferences. Maybe you should simply disable tapping function or change the sensibility.

Hi all,

Toshiba Satellite R630-105 model.
When writing for a while (using the keyboard) without any rule-based touchpad icon character appears on the screen, and occasionally temporary freezing appears.

At the same time I use a USB mouse, and I disabled the touchpad using the Fn-F9 Tin order to eliminate the problem.
Disable USB mouse using the internal touchpad to be marked in the option menu Control Panel ->Mouse.

Synaptics currently installed driver version dated 11.03.2010.
I also tried drivers installing at later date, but don?t get a good result.

I have tried the suggested solutions but it did not work this link:

If you would appreciate a fix or suggestion for a solution.

Answer:Satellite R630-105 - touchpad temporally freezes

As I understood your issue, the touchpad icon appear while typing and this can be solved temporally disabling the touchpad pressing the FN +F9.
Is this correct?

In my knowledge you can disable the touchpad while typing by choosing the option in Control Panel ?> Mouse -> Pointing device tab (in some cases its Advanced tab) -> Setting button

There is area called ?Operations during key input?
And there you can choose the option is called ?Disable tapping? and ?Disable scroll function?

Strange but for me it sounds like a hardware malfunction...

Can you use an external mouse with connected AC/DC adaptor?

In your case I would try to update the BIOS. You can find it on the Toshiba website.
If it doesn?t work I think you should send the notebook to an authorized service provider with the AC/DC adaptor. They can check it and maybe the mainboard must be exchanged.

Hi everybody, I work on Windows 7 64bit, Service Pack 1. My portable is 3-4 months. The drives are updated and what more? Ask me if necessarely.

I've a problem with my "touchpad mouse": it happens suddenly. At first the cursor moves very slowly or erratic. When I try to shut Windows nothing works. So I click with the left button then it works once or twice and no more all is freezed. Nothing possible. My work can't be enregistred.

Sometimes, "ctrl"+"alt" +"supp" opens the Windows to choose to open the "panel configuration", but when I click it doesn't open. Sometimes, after a long time, I can start again but over times I must stop manually before start again. The ventilator seems to work too often, faster and noisely.

What do you think about this problem, does it exist a patch or something else to do ?

best regards

Answer:Satellite A80-154 - Keyboard and Touchpad don't work

It looks like a hardware problem.
If the warranty is valid you could contact the ASP in your country for a hardware check.

If the warranty is not valid you could firstly check if the keyboard cable was connected to the motherboard properly.
If it?s connected properly then a keyboard malfunction is possible and it would be advisable to check if a replacement would help to solve this issue.

The compatible parts can be ordered also from the ASP in your country.

BIOS provides USB support before Windows starts which is why it works in BIOS but not Windows.

I suggest the best place to start is recovering your files/folders. You can probably just skip to Step 2 for your case See How to recover your folders/files when Windows won?t boot

Then you can comfortably try fixing your computer (which might need a full reformat/reinstall)

After I updated the drivers of my keyboard and touchpad they wont respond or freze when the xp boot screen appears.
Oh and it works before that.

What can I do ?

Answer:Satellite A10-S177 touchpad and keyboard don't respond

Sorry mate but I don?t understand how you have updated the keyboard driver?
The keyboard driver is a part of the Windows OS so it cannot be updated manually?

Check if you can boot in safe mode.
Press F8 and then choose safe mode. Then you can try to reverse the OS back to the early time point before the OS has been muddled up.

In an attempt to get the FN key working again, I installed the latest 'Flash Cards Support Utility', which has made the problem considerably worse. No keys on the keyboard work (there is still power going to it, as the number lock light is lit) and the touchpad doesn't respond either, along with its buttons.

I'm guessing it was something to do with what i just installed but i don't really know where to start. I have a usb mouse and a spare keyboard so am able to use the laptop but would be very grateful for any help fixing it.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Keyboard and Touchpad failing

Before we start the discussion one question: do you have problem with FN keys only or you cannot use whole keyboard?
What is with touchpad? Is touchpad maybe disabled? Have you installed Synaptics touchpad driver?
It is really not easy to say what is going on there but maybe you should install recovery image and test functionality with ?factory settings?. I mean with clean OS installation everything should be OK. If not there must be some hardware problem.

Satellite C660-28H

Win7 64bit

antivirus Kaskpersky deleted "system32/driver/cekbfilter.sys" file for keylogger reason (Kaspersky Support said It is mistake of Kaspersky antivirus, file is not virus or virused), and after I restart OS I find keyboard and touchpad not working at all.

Also I already asked about this at [US Toshiba Forum|] and there was advise to ask here too

I can not use Windows recovery (do not have recovery point) , and I do not want to do full recovery to factory default - there are many soft and personal data stored.

So Is here way to recover drivers? As I already said at US Toshiba Forum - I already tryed delete touch pad driver and instal from Synaptic official website, and I not changed anything.

Also I think antivirus may delete not only file, but do some fixes to remove "wrone" driver

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - keyboard and touchpad are not working

Huh it is very stupid situation now. I never had such problems but it will be interesting to find solution to this.

Have you tried to connect external mouse, just to see if this can work? I mean it is much easier to use windows with mouse and choose different options.

If this works try to open device manager and properties for keyboard. There you can find option for driver update. Check if some driver update can be found. Fact is that keyboard uses standard Microsoft driver so f you are online maybe some driver can be found.

Of course best and easiest solution for you is recovery installation. If you don?t want to do this try to find right drivers using such driver update option.

One more thing: if you have so important stuff saved on HDD you can remove it from your notebook and connect it to other PC/notebook as external device and make backup. After doing this you can install recovery image and problem is solved.

I have problem with keyboard and touchpad. Laptop is Satellite A300-1G5

I have Vista home premium and when I power computer on, I must put password in user box then my keyboard and touchpad don't work.

In Bios my keyboard working but when Vista starts it does not.

How I solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5: Keyboard and touchpad do not work

First of all please check the device status in the device manager.
Please check if the keyboard and touchpad are listed correctly without any yellow exclamation marks.

But you should try to reinstall the drivers again even though the keyboard and the touchpad were recognized properly.
In this case I would recommend removing the keyboard and the touchpad from the device manager and then you should reboot the notebook once again.

After Vista has rebooted the both devices should be recognized again and should work.

Please check this!

I own a sattelite C870-13E computer since august.

Yesterday for no apparent reason, my touchpad stopped working. (no, I didn't turn it off)
Not really bothered by it, i kept working on my computer for several hours.
It then occurred to me it might be a little bug, so I decided to restart my computer.

When it turned back on, not only my touchpad didn't work, now nothing on my keyboard responded, not a single key. I updated drivers, bios, ran a virus scan, rolled back my computer to a few days earlier, nothing helped.

The strange thing is that the keyboard still responds when i hold the 0, F1 or F8 keys, as well as enter and arrow keys to get in the menus before windows starts up.

Using those, i used the toshiba recovery to set the computer back to factory settings.
Despite all that, keyboard and touchpad are still out.
I really don't understand, since it works during startup it can't be actual materialistic damage!

Now i'm getting frustrated cause i have no more solutions and typing with on-screen keyboard is really slow! =p

Any help?

Answer:Keyboard and touchpad don't work on Satellite C870-13E

I think it?s a hardware malfunction because you already tried the system recovery and the keyboard does not work even if using factory settings.

But it would be interesting to know if the USB external keyboard would functions. Can you test this? In my opinion if the external keyboard would works properly, then this would mean that your internal keyboard is faulty and needs to be replaced.
I?m wondering if the touchpad fault is related to the internal keyboard malfunction.

However, I think the warranty should be still valid if you purchased this unit in August. So get in contact with service and the guys should fix it free of charge!

I can't seem to find a way of fixing this or the cause of the problem.

Here it is:

I haven't had the laptop for that long and already thinking it is a terrible thing. When I start my laptop there is like a 70% chance of the keyboard not starting (this is up until it gets to the windows login) then around a 15% chance the touch pad wont start. If the touchpad wont start then I just shut down the whole laptop and start again but there is a chance with the laptop that if I use the on screen keyboard to login then the keyboard will start working again. (around 80% chance) I am getting sick of it.

I probably should have written this in code.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Note: I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and rollback the drivers, even searching for the most current.

Windows VISTA clean installation - touchpad & keyboard half of the time are working half of the time not. I'm sure it's not a driver problem (if it's not working device manager says there was problem with device..) . I've already tried 5 different drivers..
I am facing issue from the time i bought it.. I thought there might be problem with OS, today i installed UBANTU but facing same issue (Mouse pad stops working after some time) with this OS tooo.. I am sure that its problem with Hardware not with OS or any driver..

Can please any one tell is there any solution for this...

If you have noticed this strange problem from the first day why you didn?t contacted Toshiba service and asked for help?
I can imagine there is some hardware problem but I don?t know what do you want to do alone about it. do you want to exchange keyboard or touchpad alone.

Hey peeps, how are we all?

I have a funny problem here. the touchpad and keyboard do not work in windows or the BIOS, if I reboot the computer the same happens whether its just on battery or through the mains.

If I take the battery out then replace it and reboot the keyboard and mouse will work absolutely fine until I reboot it next (unless i remove the battery again).

Is there something that gets reset that would stop the touchpad and keyboard working?

Thanks alot,

Answer:Satellite Pro L40 Keyboard + Touchpad inop after reboot

That?s a strange issue.
Did you try to update the BIOS? Check if you use the latest version and update it if a newer version is available.

Generally it?s not easy to say what could cause this issue?
To be honest I never heard about a similar issue?

So check if an BIOS update will help to sort this out? if not I would recommend contacting the ASP in your country for a solution!

The laptop is just over 1 year old and has been working ok until recently.

First symptoms were keyboard and touchpad not working at windows 8 login page. Pressing power to put laptop in sleep and pressing again often got them working.

This progressed to the keyboard and touchpad not working at random points whilst using the laptop.

Finally blanked the HDD and restored windows 8 alone, the laptop still BSOD's fairly frequently - refuses to install updates required for 8.1 and the keyboard and mouse often do not work even in the BIOS setup page. I have reseated the RAM and HDD.

Running out of ideas, the keyboard and touchpad do work and so I would assume that their connections are OK - but frequently they just stop.

Any ideas appreciated?

There are no many options which could solve this problem.
It can be a hardware problem or software related issue.

Can you use the internal keyboard within the BIOS?
Check this.
If this would not be possible, I assume the hardware is faulty.

Additionally I recommend testing the keyboard and touchpad using the factory settings.
Recover the notebook and check if the keyboard would functions?. Otherwise you will need an helps from an notebook technician in order to replace the keyboard and touchpad

my touchpad stopped functioning properly half a year ago. Additionally it blocks my keyboard as well. If I go to sleep mode then start the notebook again then the keyboard starts functioning but not the touchpad. Then at some days touchpad comes back to life and works for a while perfectly.

Also, the notebook has started to heat up recently, especially around the touchpad's place.

I have my drivers installed so I guess that it should not be a problem. What can be?

Answer:Satellite A300 - Touchpad and keyboard issues

Hi buddy,

Maybe you should update the touchpad driver. You can download driver updates on official Toshiba website:

There you should find a newer version of touchpad driver.

According to your message you have to reboot the notebook in order to get the keyboard and touchpad working properly.
Possibly there is something wrong with the drivers for keyboard and touchpad?
As a first idea I would recommend to refresh the OS.
This means that you should check if a new OS installation could solve this problem.

Keyboard driver is a part of the windows OS so I think this should be checked.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110, bought a couple of months ago. In the last few weeks it has started randomly locking the keyboard and touchpad (with or without external mouse plugged in - though external mouse always works).

Now there are power up issues, with the system hanging at the Toshiba Bios screen, may fully boot up maybe one time in five.
Wireless network acquisition is also very temperamental. I have tried everything software I can think of (new drivers/virus scan/uninstall-reinstall), with the exception of a full Toshiba back-up disk reinstallation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A110: keyboard, touchpad, power-up issues

I think we should firstly find out if the issue is software or hardware related.
In this case the installation of the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD is recommended.
After the installation the notebook should works without any troubles.

But if the unit will hang and will not boot properly than there could be something wrong with the hardware.
I think your warranty is valid and in such case you should always contact the ASP in your county for a checking.

My daughter's Toshiba Satellite Pro A100 has developed a couple of faults.

Firstly, the keyboard displays random characters such as a stuck key would. eg, if in Google or Wordpad the system will at random type a single character over and over again even when no key is pressed. Occasionally it will also open windows or programs as if the 'enter' key has been pressed, or cycle through desktop icons.

Secondly, the touchpad is non-responsive and cursor operation isn't possible from the touchpad or buttons. I don't know if the two are related.

It may be worth mentioning that I also cannot get my touchpad driver to register.

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite 5200-802: Keyboard and touchpad dont work

Do you get an error message or do you have any bed signs on the screen?
Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS?
If yes then the keyboard was recognized and works!

If you cannot use the keyboard running OS then I would recommend to delete the keyboard device from the device manager and to restart the notebook.
After new OS reboot the keyboard should be recognized again.

But I think that you will be not able to access the BIOS.
Due to the fact that the touchpad does not work too, I presume the hardware is faulty or there is no connection to the motherboard. Maybe a lose cable?

Maybe you should check this. But note; if you have no experience contact the notebook technicians. Bye

Hi folks, I'm new here and hope you can help me.

I have a Satellite L750D here which has a strange Keyboard/touchpad issue.

Recently my screen has been replaced and I toke the opportunity to replace the DD with a SDD.

I used the OS restore cd's which I created from the recovery partition and completely reinstalled Windows 7 64-Bit from those.

Everything seemed to work well until after the last reboot.

Then my after reboot, the keyboard wasn't working and neither the touchpad.
I tried rebooting / shutting down and starting again, no change.

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

I reinstalled the touchpad drivers from the Toshiba website, still no change.

I then closed the lid and let the notebook go into sleepmode/hibernation and found that when I opened the lid/screen, that the keyboard was working again, but not the touchpad.

Fn-F9 made no difference.

I then pressed the button above the touchpad, but the touchpad remained dead. But after pressing that button, the keyboard went dead too!!?
Switching the button for the touchpad on/off made no difference, both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

Rebooting made no difference either.

Throwing away the drivers in safe-mode led the drivers to be reinstalled, but both keyboard and touchpad remained dead.

The only thing to bring the keyboard back to life is closing the lid and going to sleepmode/hibernation and reawakening the notebook.

But press the button above ... Read more

Answer:Satellite L750D - Strange Keyboard/touchpad issue

I connected an USB keyboard and mouse, both work perfectly.

This is really strange… from my point of few, if the external keyboard and mouse works properly, then the controller should be OK, and this would mean that the malfunction must be related to the faulty keyboard / touchpad.

But at the other hand, you said that the keyboard works properly booting from Linux Live CD.
To me this makes no sense and I’m confused…

Anyway, since the notebook has been disassembled in order to replace the screen and other parts, I think something went wrong during this procedure and probably a part was affected…

In my opinion it’s advisable to replace the keyboard and to check if it will fix the issue.

I am a novice so please bear with me. I use a Equium A300D with Vista Home OS. I have lost all use of the touchpad.(synaptics pointing device)

I have tried the F9 key, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver and even tried system restore, all to no avail. I have the touchpad icon on my task bar. The backlight on the touchpad no longer lights up. I have looked into the properties and it shows as working properly with no conflicts.

One thing I have noticed is that previously, when I pressed the Fn key on the lower left of the keyboard, the functions keys were displayed on the screen. This too has stopped.

Can anyone offer any advice?

Many Thanks in advance.

Roobee :)

Answer:Equium A300D touchpad not working

The touchpad needs two different drivers; one from Synaptics and one from Alps Electric.
In your case I recommend uninstalling both drivers. Just remove it from the system.
Then reboot the notebook, clean the OS using an CCLeaner (free tool) and install both drivers again!

The FN+F9 button will not work if you don?t install the VAP (Value Added Package).

Note: All these drivers can be downloaded from the Toshiba European drive page and please choose the right drivers because there are different Equium A300D models!

Satellite A210 less than 12 months old.

1. Speakers had problem - ASP replaced the motherboard, but now the volume is always very low, even when at 100%. All settings checked and seem to be okay. How to fix??

2. Does not always boot from battery as it is continually flat. Laptop went to ASP who replaced motherboard (again) and put new battery. Now it is always best to run the laptop from the power adaptor as the battery is still losing charge. If unplugged from mains supply battery goes flat over night????

3. Refused to boot up with the power button, talked to ASP who advised to reformat PC - did that but problem still remained

4. Reformatted lots more times and in end sent back to ASP as now the keyboard did not always work either. ASP replaced the motherboard (that is now the third one) but hasn't resolved the problem, and the keyboard. Battery still not holding charge

5. On day that I got A210 back, touchpad didn't work. Talked to ASP who gave me lots of options to try, including turning it off and waiting for 30 minutes, which did nothing. Sent it back to ASP who says there is nothing wrong with it?????

How can I resolve the power on and touchpad issue?
Have given up on the battery and the speakers
Maybe someone other than the ASP can give me an answer please. All I want is to be able to use my laptop and have it do all the usual things that a PC does, sound, keyboard, battery operation and not always have to put in a USB mouse.

Answer:Satellite A210 - Keyboard, touchpad, battery, start up issues

1. Have you checked the volume of the physical volume dial at the front of the laptop? And also the Main and Wave volumes in windows?

2. Go into the BIOS and disable USB Sleep and Charge, and Wake On LAN

3. Try holding the power button down for 2 second

4. All the keys didnt work? Or just some?

5. Try pressing Fn+F9 to toggle the Touchpad. If you installed drivers (such as Logitech or Microsoft) for your external mouse, remove them and reboot.

i have a problem with my laptop, the touchpad and the keyboard doesn't work.
Any one can help me what's the possible cause?

thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite W30T-A378 - touchpad and the keyboard doesn't work

I assume that you checked if the tablet has been connected properly to the keyboard docking.

Did you try to disconnect and connect the docking again?
Note: there is a release latch on the left which you have to move and hold in order to remove the tablet.

Maybe there is some connection problem.

On my Sat P100 PSPA6A, around 50% of the time, the keyboard and touchpad do not respond properly. By this I mean:
- mouse tracks jerkily and slowly across screen
- keystrokes lost

Both these symptoms occur at once - it's never one or the other. Sometimes a restart fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. It occurs after a fresh Windows install and with all Toshiba drivers as-new so it's not software or a virus. It's not related to overheating, as it can occur from startup after an overnight power-off. It's even occurred on two machines of this spec (one got RTMd and replaced under warranty) so it's not just some weird quirk on this one and only machine that I have.

I'm at my wit's end with this. If it wasn't for this intermittant fault, I'd be very happy with this, but I'm on the verge of throwing it off a cliff. (Well, not really, but trading it in anyway.)

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Answer:Satellite P100 (PSPA6A) touchpad and keyboard slow/no response

Have you tried to update BIOS to latest version?
If I am remembering well such issues are fixed with BIOS updates.

One more thing: if this issue is still there, even after clean OS installation, it can also be hardware related issue. You know, it is not easy to give exact solution to this. Maybe you should contact nearest authorized service provider and let them check keyboard and touchpad using their diagnostic tools.

I purchased a new C850-1G3. Touchpad doesn't work well, sometime stop to working (also during Win8 first installation). The keyboard has bad feeling: very very flexing (like netbook of some year ago).
Feels cheap.

What do you think about? Touchpad stop working is normal?

Answer:Satellite C850-1G3 touchpad stoped working - keyboard very flexing

>Feels cheap.
The Satellite C850-1G3 is a cheap notebook. You can get it for about 370 Euros.

>Touchpad stop working is normal?
Even if the notebook is cheap, the touchpad should work properly.

But what do you mean exactly by stopped working?
Can you enable or disable the touchpad by pressing Fn + F5 (or just F5)??

Did you try to modify the touchpad settings? (can be found in control panel -> mouse -> last tab ?pointing device -> settings?)

Hello everyone!

I've had my laptop for a while but I've never actually had the time to take care of the problems that came with it.

Ever since I've gotten it, all the way in July, my touchpad wouldn't work properly.
As simple as that. It would work for a couple of seconds at startup, then it would just get stuck in scroll mode.

My keyboard sometimes just stops working after a long while of using my laptop.

When my laptop shuts off after I'm away from keyboard, after turning it back on, the screen is black.
Each time I need to close it, let it go into sleep mode, then reopen it in order for the screen to display everything.

I have no idea why, also, but all three of my explorers are very buggy. Chrome, Mozilla and IE.
My videos just randomly stop, reload and rebuffer with much lower quality.
They like to close for no reason too. When I'm browsing a page as simple as Facebook, I get framerate issues, I can't scroll down properly as when I do, I find myself skipping through sections because it's that buggy.

Can someone help? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-131 - multiple issues: touchpad, keyboard, internet

Guess what?
It?s hard to believe that all this issues would be related to one ?general? problem.

For example the described internet explorer issues sounds to me like a slow internet connection. Probably the internet browsers are not able to load all the video data (probably in HD resolution) and therefore the video start to play using lower resolution.

The touchpad supports some additional features which could be configured within the ELAN settings. (control panel -> mouse -> ?ELan? settings in last tab)
If you don?t use all the touchpad features, I would recommend you to disable the options in the Elan configuration menu.

Some issues sound also like the system would be locked for a short time.
Why? I?m not quite sure about that but maybe some application run in the background and lock the system for a while.

I?m wondering if you already tried to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
If not; try it out. Feedback would be appreciated.

I have installed Windows 7 (32-bit) on my Satellite Pro A210 and have a similar problem. When it starts all is well but after hibernation the keypad and touchpad stop working after about 3 mins. The only way to fix it is force a re-boot.

Anyone have any ideas?

Answer:Satellite Pro A210 - Keyboard and touchpad stop working after hibernation

Have you installed all drivers for your notebook? I mean especially the chipset driver.
Check this!!!

If you have yellow exclamation marks in device manager you should install all missing drivers.

Last but not least don?t forget to install all available Windows 7 updates that you can get thorugh Windows Update.

Sorry but this is all what I can say at the moment?

I've had a Equium laptop for quite some time now.
But all of a sudden the touchpad seems jumpy and every now and then just stops, waits... then continues. This is very annoying because i play games and it becomes a problem ive tried everthing: from a System restore to reinstalling the drivers.

Answer:Equium A300D-16c touchpad coursor jumps

Hmm? if system restore doesn?t help to solve this issue, then a hardware problem might be possible.

I read about a similar issue while typing? this has been solved by BIOS update.
Maybe you should check this if the BIOS update would help you?

Otherwise it might be a hardware problem which could be solved by touchpad replacement.

I have tried multiple times to call on the support phone number with long waiting and no answer ( on hold for ages )

I have been having a problem since 1 week with my Toshiba Laptop as below

The trackpad ( mouse ) does not work despite removing battery , FN and pressing f2 then f9 and then f10 as mentioned in various forums

Also the keyboard freezes completely many times - have also tried checking other things like BIOS - trackpad enabled

And finally we have also done SYSTEM RESTORE to a previous date when everything was fine on laptop

Serial Number: 2D138575R
Model:Toshiba Satellite C855-2F0

Please help !!!

Answer:Satellite C855 - Mouse does not work - Keyboard freezes -

There are some options you could check and do.
*-> BIOS update.*
In case there is a new BIOS version for your notebook, perform the update on your unit.

*-> System Restore / Recovery*
You wrote above that you already set the notebook to a previous data but I don?t think this is good enough. It?s advisable to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
Either by using the previous created Recovery medium (disk or flash memory stick) or by using the HDD recovery option (power up the unit, press F12 and choose HDD recovery)

Of course running the HDD recovery would lead to data loss, so back up the data if essential.

Anyone help with this one?

My Equium A300d originally froze at the Bios splash screen.I eventually replaced both the ram and hdd but still the same problem. By trial and error i discovered that the problem was the dvd drive.......remove it and the system loads fine, put it back in and back to the freeze at bios!

I replaced the dvd drive wiith a new compatible drive but same result so assume the actual hardware is not the problem so can only assume a motherboard problem?

Anyone come across this scenario? thanks for looking.

Answer:My Equium A300D freezes at BIOS

It is really strange issue. Which BIOS version is on your machine?

If I understand you right without ODD your notebook starts properly and preinstalled OS can be loaded.

Have you tried to put ODD in place when Windows is fully loaded?

While I'm just trying to scroll or move my pointer using the trackpad, my cursor will freeze, disappear, or do some operating it wasn't suppossed to "right-click, zoom, etc)
It's not being disabled at all, because when it freezes, The pad is still recognized as operational and not disabled.
There are no mouse drivers in my Device Manager other than the default HID device, and I cannot find any trackpad drivers on Toshiba's support page either:

What should I do about this? Scannow and checksystemhealth haven't done anything for me either, and I even tried installing a synaptic driver manually from synaptics site, but the operation of my mouse trackpad still hasn't improved.

Very very confused, please help

Have you tried cleaning it? Sometimes if you get grease or some type of liquid dropped on it, it will take a while for it to start working properly again...this happens to me every time when I clean my laptop with chlorox wipes but it eventually goes away once it dries up.

Ive just sat and ripped my hair out over this laptop, its a Toshiba Satellite, A300D. It installed Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit no probs, all good and i completed the installation. installed all my apps etc... and then it crashed with the C000021A error. Start up repair fixed the issue and said it was a currupted file. So i continued, and it crashed again, but this time startup repair didnt fix it. so i got the DVD out again and tryed to boot to that and then recieved the error C000021A, i then changed the ram slots, and changed the actual ram, and this did not fix the issue, so i took the hdd out and tried to boot to the cd without an Hdd, and the same result C000021A happened.

I found the Bios was version 1.80 and a update to 2.10 was released and that fixed the issue. Hope this saves someone else the trouble.

I did thru bartPE booting to xp. otherwise i would have had to reinstall vista (wich quite happily booted with no problems at all being a 32bit version) and then update the bios.

In the end the 1.80 Bios is not compatible with windows 7 64 bit and needs to be upgraded.

Hope this helps someone.

Hi there guys/gals,

I noticed that my Satellite Pro A300D has an extra HDD slot on the right hand side but no hard drive case and no screws and the cover has pointy things on this

How can I get hold of these so I can add an extra HDD .

Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300D - How can I add a second HDD?

If there is no HDD connector, you cannot attach a HDD

I believe that space is for the models that came with two HDD's.

I found in the laptop compartment for a second hard drive, but did not understand whether it pop in a second hard drive.
Maybe someone is trying to turn. Thanks in advance.

PS: Sorry for English - interpreter)

Answer:Is second HDD in Satellite A300D possible?

There are different A300D on the market with different motherboards and different hardware specifications. But the cover and the bottom is always the same.
Therefore you can find an second HDD bay but not all A300D models would support the second HDD.

You can try to remove the cover which secures the second HDD bay to check the HDD connectors. If there are no connectors, then the second HDD is not possible!

#1 For some reason my touchpad on my HP 15 (2015 model with 8.1, now upgraded to Windows 10 1511) freezes. I hate that when it happens, you cant use it for 20 or 30 seconds or so. I close my lid and open it back up and it works normal, but then after a little bit it starts doing it again. My driver is up to date, I think it maybe Synaptics? If I need to give more info, please say!

#2: When I scroll on my touchpad up words it opens the start menu every so often when I am scrolling a lot, but when I didn't even open or even get near it or press Windows key. What is causing this? I hate it when it does this and screws up my readings then it stops scrolling and focuses more on the start menu then I have to click out of the menu and go back to what ever I was doing.

in the hardware list of this notebook bluethooth is not mentioned. That is why*I think it does not have this feature. So why is there a bluethooth software included in the package and also installed?

Is it necessary for something else or can I delete it?

Answer:Satellite A300D-13A and bluetooth

This notebook model doesn?t have BT. You can check it if you press FN+F8. Every notebook with BT has there option for BT enabling.

Just for info: as far as I know just when the BT is enabled with FN+F8 the BT hardware will be listed in device manager.
So, if the BT module is not there you can remove BT software from the system.

Satellite Pro A300D is getting very hot and sometimes it turns itself off. it has been doing this recently.

What could be the problem???

Answer:Satellite Pro A300D is getting hot and turns off

It sounds like that your notebook is overheating? What do you think?

In your case I would try to clean your notebook because it?s necessary to clean the cooling system from time to time to ensure the proper function of the notebook.

Therefore you can use compressed air spray and blow gently and shortly the air through the holes of the case of the notebook. This can remove the dust from the cooling ventilators.
It?s important to avoid blowing the air longer then 2-3 seconds because the fan in the system will rotate fast. This procedure should be replaced about 4-.10 times.

I had always success with this procedure and I do it every 3 months.
