Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

Question: Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

I want to build a Laptop computer for ~ $2000. Ibuypower seems to be the only site where I can find a laptop that is high performance, good price, and 15in. Everywhere else (that I can find) only has laptops that are either less good spec's, or good spec's and 17in.

Preferred Solution: Are there disadvantages of ibuypower.com?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Question: www.ibuypower.com

http://www.ibuypower.com/mall/lobby.htm

has anyone heard good/bad things about this site?

I'm someone who lacks the ability to build their own PC and i've seen quite a few people recommend this site for building gaming rigs, so i was wondering if this is a good place to buy a PC from...

Answer:www.ibuypower.com

my desktop is an ibuypower computer which i think is pretty good but their tech support is really sh*tty and on top of that say if u purchase 2GB of ram and your motherboard will only support 1gb they will only give u the 1gb and they wont even tell that ur mobo aint compatiable with it. if u want to build a ocmputer there like i did i searches the stuff i was getting and made sure it would work with each other. but if u can get it built and it performs well its a kick ass computer like mine

Having issues with BSOD and i can't find out why or how it happens. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
thank you. I've never used a forum before, and have no idea what else to do in my position. I uploaded the files that you will need to solve this if you can, thanks again. Also my temps read around 40-60 because i play mmos, and my rear fan runs hard core alot even with case open, and idk if its just the fact that its a gaming pc or if it is telling me of a soon to come heat problem.

Answer:BSOD like many others. New iBuyPower....

Hi,

Uninstall Avast then use the removal tool. Set Windows Firewall and Windows Defender to Automatic and start them too, using services.msc.

Update Realtek HD Audio codec driver from their website:

RTKVHD64 RTKVHD64.sys Fri Mar 29 09:40:06 2013 (515599B6)

Update motherboard bios to newest version.

Likely that the memory is not configured well, mismatched, or defective.

Please attach a screenshot of CPU-Z first tab, one of memory tab and one each for each stick of RAM of SPD tab - along with newest crash dumps - if necessary after completing the above. (Or perhaps Avast removal is the trick instead.)

Where should I buy my compy from? I'm looking for something in the $600 range. Which would be better?

Answer:Ibuypower or eMachines?

Hey.

I have never heard of an Ibuypower, but I do have an Emachine. I am still using an Emachine 333id model. I would say an Emachine. Go with what I know LOL.

I am on my 3rd machine (4th if you want to be technical). Built the third time. Build the machine if you can afford it. If you check my past post you can see just how fustrating it can be, but normally not that hard.

Does anyone out there know if the iBuypower computers or other computer out there on like Tigerdirect or the ZT brands from Costo are any good? I've never heard of them but keep seeing them popping up everywhere....

I've only ever had a Dell, HP or Gateway machine.

Answer:iBuypower and other non-namebrand computers

They're most often made from quite much better quality parts than Dell, etc as they don't get exclusively extra cheap motherboards and other parts like the big brand companies. They do sometimes use lower quality power supplies though, quite a feat considering what the factory built boxes have. I wouldn't recommend getting any of them without modifying it yourself and selecting a quality power supply for it, or replacing it yourself to save a few dozen dollars, as well as getting a longer warranty for the PSU.

Hey all, new to the forums and in pretty serious need of some help. I bought an IBUYPOWER prebuilt gaming rig last... April I think, and its been working great for me. Recently however ( the last month or so), the sound keeps going out. It went out for about a week before randomly coming back (nothing I did), and now its been gone for about 2-3 weeks. The sound icon down by the clock shows a red x and says that no speakers are plugged in. I've tried a bunch of things to try and get my audio back on, but no luck. I'm not sure what I would need to provide here for anybody to help me, or what I SHOULDNT post for security reasons, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Some important notes
*I have Windows 7
*I have two jacks for my speakers, one in the back where you would typically expect to find one, but also an additional one in the front panel. Neither one apparently works, leading me to believe its a driver issue.
*Gosh idk what else to put down! any help would be greatly appreciated, I used to think I was capable with computers but this seems to be beyond me

This was an "Opened and resealed" deal from nobetterdeal.com. I knew the unit wouldn't last for too long as-is but I did at least expect it to work on arrival. Out of the box it would turn on for about half a second and then it would die. After I got it opened, I reseated RAM and GPU and all of the other motherboard connections and then it would start. When I connect it to a monitor, though, the monitor  just sits there in a dormant state. BIOS doesn't even try to run. Neither the motherboard's connection nor the graphic card's will work. I know the motherboard is at least partially functional because the CPU and GPU fans are running. The tech told me it was either the motherboard or the PSU, but given that the stock PSU that they use on Amazon is only $25, I'm betting that it's the PSU, but I'm not an expert. I had the tech trace the serial number and it turns out that this website nobetterdeal bought the unit from amazon. com after a customer returned it. I have about 24 days to decide on getting a refund or keeping the parts. What do you think? Does it sound like the PSU? Or is it more likely the motherboard? Thanks!Specs: Motherboard: Gigabyte Ultra Durable GA-78LMT-USB3PSU: ALLIED ATX12V Model #:  SL-8320BTXOther Specs:     AMD FX-4130 (3.8GHz)    8GB DDR3, Power Supply: 300 WATT    1000 GB 7200 rpm Hard Drive    AMD Radeon 6670 1GB    Windows 8

Answer:iBuyPower Dead On Arrival

Update: I've tried starting the computer with 1 stick of RAM installed and no RAM installed. Didn't make a difference. I've also tried starting it without the graphics card. \Also, the CD-ROM drive will not open. I've confirmed that it's connected to the PSU and the motherboard, but no love. I'm not really sure what that implies. If it sounds like the PSU I think I'll take the plunge and buy another one for $25. If it might be the motherboard too..idk.

I found a really decent laptop from iBuyPower.com, but I have a concern about it.

When I google search P170EM, I find that it's made by "CLEVO". And that it's listed a LOT cheaper at other places. I'm willing to spend $1700 on a laptop with no questions asked. But if I can get it cheaper, and more options, then I'll go that route. So what gives? I also find that Sager NP9170 is extremely familiar to the one at ibuypower.com

Either way, what are some good websites that offer gaming laptops? I've been messing with iBuyPower, SagerLaptops.. I'd REALLY like to have a AsUS laptop but I can't configure them :'(

Answer:Ibuypower Or Cyberpower Laptops?

Ummm , the styling looks a little old, like the " C " series Dell. It is also AMD. More then likely it is a good notebook. awahat you have to think about is worst case scenario, this probably will not happen, what if you have a major failure. How good are they with warranty. Will they send you the part like Dell does or will you need to send the whole notebook in. I see a lot of Dells which also means if a few years down the road you crack the LCD, you more then likely can buy one on ebay instead of paying double or triple from the OEM. Also site support like drivers. support email. How much do you have to spend ? Have you looked at alienware notebooks ( they are owned by dell)

Hi everyone...I'm in the process of getting a new computer and I'm currently looking at this online place called www.ibuypower.com ... basically that site lets you choose the components and they'll put it together for you. I searched the parts on NewEgg and the price actually came out higher hahah

Anyway, what's troubling me is that a look at their ratings at ResellerRatings.com is "great" http://www.resellerratings.com/seller2001-p3-s1-d1.html

So my question is has anyone here had experiences with that company along with suggestions, etc. Thanks in advance.

Hey!
What seems to be wrong us that the UEFI can't seem to detect the harddrives when determining boot order? That's my best guess. I really have no idea. If I load Bootable media, such as my installation drive, it detects it just fine and all my components are fine and I'm able to format and install as I please.
However, I'm unable to access the UEFI configuration, as the pc just stops.
Twice in the past few days it's been able to work itself out and boot as normal, so I know it's not a harddrive issue, but it's extremely rare.
I formatted and installed a fresh windows on a secondary drive to see if that would help to both avail.
I have a video showing what happens, but I can't upload it

I have just recently noticed how slow the install is because I got a new copy of Windows 7 for my 13inch MacBook Pro(2.66 Core2, 4GB RAM) and it seems to run games faster and be more stable. If so it probably uses an Intel NIC. You can download the chipset drivers from here: http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=N&ProductID=816&DwnldID=12150&strOSs=45&OSFullName=Windows*%20XP%20Home%20Edition&lang=eng

of running the 64-bit version against the 32-bit???

Many mainstream apps that won't run on 64-bit for instance?

Answer:What are the advantages/disadvantages

Improvement in memory management starts it off. That sees less information sent out to the paging file for virtual memory keeping more in the active ram.

It doesn't necessarily the 64bit is faster then the 32bit overall however. The first thing everyone looks is not being limited to the 3.5gb of available ram due to the 4gb maximum for the 32bit kernel.

As far as the endless variety of softwares retail or otherwise you'd be surprized at what you can actually get running on the 64bit 7 while maybe not so on the 64bit edtitions of XP and Vista alike while having been written even for the 32bit XP! With anything new you also have to expect some things are going to be lost as well.

With each particular program even with some 32bit device drivers it's best expressed as what they call "the luck of the draw". Sometimes you can get something 32bit to run while the next time it won't! But the same goes for a 32bit program to a newer 32bit app where the next version simply won't run an older program written for the previous version.

I'm relatively new to the actual buisness side of Networking as I graduate in 2 semesters from college and I'm doing my intern this summer for email at the 3rd largest bank security company in the US.

My question is this. I was thinking of buying some router equip for my home and wanted to know the advantages/disadvantages of going with a rack mounted server with 4 hotswap drives vs just a large tower PC with a ton of internal sata drives with Server 2003 on it.

Answer:Advantages/disadvantages

Generally there isn't a hardware advantage to one vs. the other. However, the reason I've gone with rack mount vs. tower in my house is because of space. I can keep adding servers and not take up any additional floor space. Racks do usually cost a little more.

What are they? Disadvantages, security risks and so on?

For instance if I open a port that is necessary for an application to function, can this port be used for malicious intent (through the program, or just through the port in general because it's open)?

I ask this (in this forum) because my internet connection suddenly malfunctioned stating it had no or limited connection. I couldn't even access my router. And this happened a few hours after I opened a port.

Now my software firewall stated it found an IP (which looked like a default gateway but the number was slightly altered) wanting to connect to some IP I'd never seen before (and it's not my IP). The firewall stated it was to be automatically added to be trusted since "it can connect any computer to yours" etc., etc.

I just don't know what the hell is going on here, and I don't like not knowing what's going on.

Hi,
I am sorry but I am a n00b at this.
I have a 8800GTS with a core clock of 580Mhz I am thinking of Overclocking it, but I have a question regarding overclocking. What are the disadvantages? will it affect the chip? (even when you overclock it in stable condition) does it hurt the GPU in anyway?
So if you overclock it, as long as you maintain it in a tempertaure under 60C would it be fine?
I just wanted to know the conqusences of overclocking.
Thank you.

Answer:Overclocking? Disadvantages?

The risk is it could be unstable. You could also burn out your chipset if you bring it up by large increments.

Honestly if you play it safe then there's nothing to worry about when you overclock.

Just keep an eye on your temperature and maintain a safe threshold below the specified maximum. You might need to buy an aftermarket cooling unit if you cannot manage the extra heat.

Overclocking is forcing a setting that makes the component run faster than the manufacturer's specification, which does "shorten the life" of the chip. But that's usually nothing to worry about because the magnitude of overclocking damage is way too small. You'll probably go through a few new video cards by the time the negative effects of overclocking start showing up.

Hello,
This is my first thread in a forum, so I hope this is the correct spot.

I'm currently looking at buying a computer, and so far, have found two that fall in my price range and seem to meet the requirements for what I need.

I mostly use my computer for:
Music (iTunes)
Internet browing (IE)
Gaming
and
Word processing

The first computer I am looking at has an older, slower processor (AMD Athlon 64 3400+ with a Newcastle core.) But it has a significantly better graphics card (XFX GeForce 7600 GT).

The second computer has a better processor (AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ with a Windsor core.) But it's graphics card is a bit worse (GeForce 6200TC). Although, this computer comes with twice the memory (2 gig), and tons of software (notably Office 12 and Photoshop, but also quite a few others).

Otherwise the comptuers are about equal. I can probably get either for about the same price.

I'm just wondering what you guys think I should go for.

The second one seems like the better deal, except for the video card. How much would it cost to upgade the video card in the second one to something equal or greater to the video card in the first computer?

Thoughts, comments, advice, and suggestions would be very helpful!

Thanks very much.

Answer:Which would be better for me? Advantages vs. Disadvantages.

I would lean to towards the second computer too. A dual processor would be a lot nicer, and buying the software programs can get very expensive.

I am actually using a 6200 series Geforce video card and it does an ok job. It runs Battle Field 2 just fine but I have to keep the settings low.

I believe that a GeForce 7600 video card goes for around $150-200 if u wanted to upgrade to it. From what I hear they are really good video cards becuase you get the most bang for your buck.

Selecting an AV is more of a personal decision, than a "which is better" decision, since the one's you have listed are all reputable products. The reason I say it's more of a personal decision, is the fact that no AV program will catch every problem, so it boils down to which user interface you're more comfortable with using.None of them are 100% effective, so for that reason, it's a good idea to occasionally run a couple of the free online scans, as an extra layer of protection.I also recommend staying away from suites. It seems the more they add to the program, the more problems people have with it.That's why, in my opinion, it's better to use programs that are dedicated to one job (AV, Firewall, Antispyware, ....), instead of trying to do everything. You'll have fewer problems in the long run.You should also consider using one of the free AV's on the market. They're just as effective as their pay-for counterparts, but they lack some of the "bells-and-whistles" of the pay-for programs.Personally, I use AVG Anti-Virus Free, and have been completely satisfied with the program. This link, Freeware Replacements For Common Commercial Apps, will provide a list of several alternatives, that work just as good as any paid program. There's even a free version of Bitdefender. All programs on the list are used by our members, and Spyware free. Also, why pay a lot for something (Antivirus, Firewall, Anti-Spyware), that you can get for free, that will do the same job, if not ... I'm currently using a T41p, going on 6.5 years, still going strong but a bit long in the tooth. I'm thinking of replacing my T41p and it looks like the T410s is the logical counterpart of this generation. My T41p specs...1.7 GHz Pentium M14.1" 4:3 screen 1400x10502 Gb memory64 Gb HDD128 Mb video memory ATI Mobility Fire GL T2Just a question - are there ANY "downgrades" of going with the T410s?1) less screen real estate in the vertical direction2) slight increase in the width of the laptopOther than those 2, are there any downgrades going to a T410s from a T41p? What about the video capability? What about the screen quality and brightness/contrast? I've heard the current Lenovo screens are left wanting but are they at least the equal or improved upon the T41p? And what about the build quality in general? Keep in mind my T41p is "IBM".Other general questions...1) Do ThinkPads still lead in build quality and construction among laptops? Just asking since I've never owned a China-produced Lenovo before. Are ThinkPads of higher quality than a top end Japanese laptop?2) Do they have a bluray/dvd burner option?3) Do they have a 160 Gb solid state drive? Thanks for your time.

Answer:T41p to T410s - any disadvantages ?

i will answer your general questions.

1) Thinkpads now have an internal magnesium rollcage, and in every sense still true to the original Thinkpad name. Apart from Panasonic Toughbook, Lenovo Thinkpads is far superior in quality (in terms of toughness and longevity) than any other japanese laptop counterparts. Also, apart from Panasonic whom still produces their own laptop and many of their parts. Other Japanese laptop companies employ ODM and JDM companies to design and produce their laptops, so in many cases you are just paying for the brand and less than unique laptop design.

Contract manufacturer like Quanta, Compal, Foxconn, Inventec, Wistron produces most of the brand name laptops like Apple Macbook/Pro, Acer, Dell, HP laptops.

2) yes you can option the T410s and T410 with an ultrabay slim blu-ray burner.

3) you can get 128 gig SSD, not sure about 160 gig SSD.

What's that they say about opinions...?

It's amazing to read something like that since there are already several books out on Vista, and even training on Vista from MS. The wiki seems to be written by someone with little to no hands on experience with Vista. It's not the middle of 2005 anymore.

I'm in the market for a new digital camera, probably a 5-megapixel model. I have two CANON 2-MP digicams and several Compact Flash cards. While I'm partial to CANON, I would also strongly consider other highly-rated cameras, regardless of brand, and especially -- though not exclusively -- those which use CF cards.

One of my cameras uses AA batteries, so I have two sets of NIMH and a 15-minute recharger. I really like the convenience/availability of AA's, but it seems that most 5-MP cameras use some form of proprietary battery, usually lithium-ion, instead. Why is this? Do the proprietary batteries such as the lithium-ion have major advantages over AA NiMh's?

I'm open to suggestions and recommendations for a good 5-MP camera, no matter what type of batteries and media cards are used; I'd be willing to move away from AA and CF for a great deal on a digital camera.

Thank you,
wgreene

I have Comcast cable internet. I am looking to do a little job for a friend of mine who wants to have 2 PCs connected to the internet. I can connect both thru the cable modem. One via Cat 5 and the other via USB. I don't know the speeds and such, but the USB seems to go at the same speed. Are there any major advantages or disadvantages to doing this? It saves the money of buying a switch or router and the extra cable?

If you think it's a stupid idea, should I go with switch or router?

Answer:Advantages/Disadvantages of connecting thru USB

I would definitely go with the router.

Connecting both through the cable modem requires 2 IP addresses. Your friend may have these addresses now, but unless he is paying for multiple IP addresses, his ISP may take them away at any time. If he only has 1 IP address, he won't be able to use both PCs at the same time.

Also, a router wll protect your friend's network from "intruders" and only requires 1 IP address.

Hope this helps!

Hiya Bleepsters.

I've heard that storing files in the Windows "Libraries" is not the best idea. Some people completely loathe the idea. I can't remember why ATM.

What say you? Should I create my own folders for storing my music, pictures, and documents? And/or/if so, should I copy and paste/drag and drop what's in the libraries right now to newly created personal user folders of my own naming, or are the Windows libraries only shortcuts to get to the files within, with said files actually being somewhere else on the machine? (Maybe THAT'S what I've heard others say they loathe so much.)

Lastly, I mainly use the backup/image built into Win 7 x64 Home Premium to backup/image to an external. Once in a while I also use Macrium Reflect as an extra measure. Is there any advantage or disadvantage to having said files in or out of said libraries for ease of backing up and restoring?

Tera-thanks!
BTW - as mentioned, I'm running Home Premium x64, but it's a shop-built computer. More specs are in my profile here. Thanks.

Answer:System Library Disadvantages?

It is a personal preference thing.

Just like office 2010 vs Office 2003. You either like the new interface or you hate it.
I'm in the latter camp by the way.

I store files on a different data only drive.
That way when I go to back them up to a BluRay disc I know where they are.
Not to mention I don't want to put junk on my boot SSD despite it having plenty of room.

In terms of backing up I cloned my boot drive so I can go back to it if something happens like catching a virus. Thus for me having all data files on a different drive works best so I can restore the boot drive from the cloned version and not lose all the data files. I'll be burning 100gig or so Sunday to back them up and free space. I fell behind on backing up.

You need to decide what works best for you.

Cheers
Roger

Hi,

Does anyone know where i can find information about the advantages and disadvantages of using Microsoft Access and Oracle as part of developing a web site and in general use? ie why is one better than the other?

Thanks
Seema

Answer:advantages/disadvantages of database

Comparing Access to Oracle is like comparing a ten speed to a Harley. I am working with both now. Access is fine to use as a front end tool to connect to Oracle or as a small application database on a desktop, but if you are going to be storing lots of data, and having lots of people accessing it, Oracle is the way to go.

The other side of the coin is that Access is a lot cheaper than Oracle. I guess it all depends on the amount of expected use and what you / your company can afford.

Sorry, I don't have any technical links for you to read, but maybe someone else will.

On active directory I do not have a profile set for my username, so I assume this will keep everything stored on the local computer when I log onto the domain.

So are there any disadvantages to connecting my workstation to the domain? For example, what happens if the DC is down (this happens often, because this is a test lab).

Programs I install when I am connected to the domain that store data in the documents folder might not work properly when the DC is down and I have to logon to the local machine??

Answer:Disadvantages to joining a domain?

Well it all depends on how the domain profiles are set up. If you map the my documents folder to a netowrk share and the network is down then yes it will effect the programs that store data there. On the other hand when you log into a domain, presuming you dont use roaming profiles, all the user data is still stored locally. If the Domain Controller is down the computer will still be able to log in using cached credentials, but once again, anything stored or mapped to the DC will not be available. Also, even if you are on a domain you can still log into the computer locally, regardless of the OS. XP and 7 do it slightly different but it still works. Is this a DC your setting up at home?

MSE's been getting a lot of praise for being lightweight and effective while being free. It can't be perfect, but I haven't been able to find very much to convince someone to opt for a paid option over MSE. All I've found is MSE doesn't seem to have scheduled scans. Also saw one person say it's not as good with unknown malware, but that's one statement and I've found other statements that disagree.

So does anyone know what MSE might be missing?

Thanks!

if you want to use two SIMs (and thus, two plans and or numbers)
why? maybe ones for work, the other is personal?
maybe combining two smaller plans could be cheaper than one big one depending on where you are.
That's what i know off the top of my head, but dual-SIM phones are all but nonexistent where I am.

Hi there,

I consider myself to be fairly adept at using computers, whether that be Windows or Linux.
For a long time, I have run my computer without any antivirus in the background, and it is much faster than it would be otherwise.
Since I know what I am doing, I have never downloaded any kind of virus on my windows partition, although I know enough to remove most viruses in about 5 minutes, but anything with a rootkit takes me longer. If worse comes to worse, i can always just format reinstall, or just delete crap from my Linux partition, since my windows partition isn't used for anything besides games.

Given these type of scenarios, Why should Computer Technicians and IT Professionals use an Antivirus?
I keep all of my Malware Removal Tools up to date: MalwareBytes, Hijackthis, etc. and I know how to use them.
What purpose does an Antivirus have for skilled computer users?

Answer:Advantages and Disadvantages of running an Antivirus

Even experienced computer users make mistakes, you'd be lying if you said you didn't. You can accidentally click a malicious link, mistype a URL, etc. So having a layer of PREVENTION rather than cure, can take the hassle away from having to reformat. Most modern AV programs do not cause a noticeable slow down.

The only consideration would be what other devices are being used at the time, since all USB devices on a single root hub will share the 480MBit/s bandwidth.

I've noticed that there are quite a few third party DNS services that you can use instead of the default servers assigned by your ISP.

Some examples are Google DNS, Open DNS or Comodo Secure DNS.  A few others mentioned here.

Some of the claims include:

Faster
Better security (some claim to filter malicious domains that host malware)
More reliable

I've tried Comodo DNS which I configured my modem router to use, but I've reverted back as oddly, it broke some of my local network features (network service discovery).  Apart from that, the only other difference I noticed was that dead links for domains that no longer exist went to a Comodo page.  I can't say I noticed it being either any faster or slower than the one provided by my ISP.  Blocking of malicious domains would be a nice feature though (if it works as intended).

What I'm asking then is what is the experts view on using services like this?  Do they offer advantages for most people or are you better off sticking with the default ISP provided DNS.

Thanks

Answer:Third party DNS servers. Advantages and disadvantages?

No expert....but after some hiccups in my ISP's DNS server I switched to OpenDNS a few years ago. No more hiccups and does
occassionally but rarely lets me know the site I attempted to go to is acting suspiciously or some other reason it is best to avoid.

I was reading an article this morning that you might be interested in. Just scroll down to the comments on DNS servers.

I am considering purchasing a small (11.6" screen) laptop which has Windows 10 pre-installed and has an 32GB SSD device - yes very small but very few small laptops have 64GB SSD or larger and they tend to be a lot more expensive than I want to pay since it won't be used a lot.

I intend to use the laptop ONLY when I am traveling and so will only install 2 or 3 applications taking around 2-3GB. I don't want to store images, songs or videos and if I do I will store them on an SD card (laptops usually have an SD slot).

I was thinking that to preserve as much free space on the C: drive (32GB SSD) that I install any programs I want on the SD card (and basically leave only Windows 10 on the C: drive).

What are the disadvantages installing software to a removable device (in this case an SD card which I will leave plugged in all the time) apart from maybe being a bit slower to load?

How much space does a typical Windows 10 take (NOT using NTFS compression)?

That question is where you are wrong.

If you buy a 32GB device it absolutely WILL use compression by default. You can check it by running the command compactOS as described here Compact OS - Compress or Uncompress Windows 10 - Windows 10 Forums

I'm a bit of a fan of compression (so take my claims with a pinch of salt as I might overstate them).

What I'll say though is uncompressed, Windows 64 bit (on its own) will take about 17GB. When you compress it (which will probably make your device faster) it will go to around 7GB. When you delete stuff you don't want (pointless apps) you'll get down to between 3 and 4.

I run 64 bit Windows with full Office 2010 and it takes just under 6GB.

You'll have a problem with upgrades at 32GB as the whole system is uncompressed before the procedure. I had to increase my space assigned from 20GB to 32GB as I could not upgrade even though Windows + Office is less than 6GB.

As for running programs from SD card, I have spent almost a month running the game Divinity Original Sin off a SD card as I didn't have enough space (20GB) to put it on my laptop. It worked absolutely fine - the heat problems were due to my feeble CPU and graphics on my MacBook Pro - not the SD card speed.

You have nothing to worry about there.

Hi All,

I've currently got my collection of mp3 files sorted into "album" folders, those folders are in "artist" folders, and those folders are in the main "music" folder.

Music
|-Artist1
| |-Album1
| | |-Song1.mp3
| | |-Song2.mp3
| | |-Song3.mp3
| |
| |-Album2
|
|-Artist2
| |-Album1
| |-Album2
V etc

This has served me well for years, but due to various circumstances, I've been thinking about dumping everything directly into just one big "Music" folder. All of my filenames are standardized, so the music would sort itself out properly, and all of the songs are tagged properly also.

Before I go ahead and destroy my subdirectory structure, though, I want to know if anyone thinks having all of these files in one place would cause any problems (there's about 15,000 files taking up about 40 gig).

Does anyone else sort this way, or know of any reasons to avoid doing so?

Thanks!
~Joe

Answer:[SOLVED] Benefits/Disadvantages to folder structures

I suppose it really boils down to personal preference. I personally use your current folder structure just because I like the organization of it. I also play through a media centre using third party plug ins that use the folder structure to get meta data off the net and add it to the folders. Having this folder structure makes it very easy to do.

For a new mainboard based on Z87 chipset I have to buy an Intel CPU.

So my considerations so far are:

I want to use later a full 4K monitor with 60Hz and with integrated iGPU Graphic.
On the other side I want to use a CPU with minimum Thermal DP Watt.

As far as I can see a core i5 4th generation CPUs with integrated HD 4600 graphic are suitable.

But which of the sub model versions should I take?

The variants with the smallest Thermal DP are the core i5 with the letter "T" at the end e.g.

4460T,4590T,4570T,4690T

Are there any heavy disadvantages when using these CPUs rather than other core i5 4th Gen. models?

I understand that doing it from safe mode is NOT reversible; however I have later restore points than the one I plan on trying so it seems that I would NOT be completely stuck with whatever happens from the restore, right??

Need for restore is:
I had started thread on my situation and only rcvd partial advice, so am going to do Windows created System Restore. I have been setting up new Desktop Win 7 pro 64 bit, and had attempted to redirect APPDATA subfolders to a different internal drive. This redirect was only partially successful; in using Windows built-in button to restore locations to default several thousand APPDATA files were deleted. The computer runs and I can use Internet. I have recovered most of the files with RECUVA software, however it seems that trying a restore point is my best option - my only question is whether it is preferable to do the restore in Safe Mode.

Thanks

Answer:Are there disadvantages to doing System Restore in safe mode?

This tutorial should be helpful by Brink.

If you do a System Restore when the computer is in safe mode, you cannot undo the restore operation. However, you can run System Restore again and choose a different restore point if one exists.

Hi.

i heard that setting RAID can increase or not speed.. can anyone more expert explain me how this works?

1.) First of all what is RAID (explain in words that an ignorant in computing like me can uderstand)

2.) What's the difference between raid 0 or raid 1 and how it affect the computer?

3.) What are the advantages/disadvantages choosing between this two settings?

Answer:Advantages & Disadvantages of RAID and How affect Qosmio G30 speed

Hi

I?m not a RAID guru ;) but I have used the Qosmio G20 with and without enabled RAID technology and I did not notice any speed disadvantages.

I see you are a newbie and therefore I will try to explain the RAID functionality very easily ;)
So what is RAID? RAID (Redundant Array of Independent Disks) helps to save data.

The RAID mirrors the content of the first HDD to the second HDD. That means that all files (depending on the RAID settings) which are stored on the HDD1 are also stored on HDD2. If the HDD1 will damage, you will be able to recover the whole content from the HDD2.

The two HDD?s can be used with RAID-1 mirroring or RAID-0 stripping
When using RAID-1 the data is stored twice (once on each of the HDDs) so if there are problems with one of the HDDs, the other HDD can be used to recover the data.
But you can use the both HDDs only as a single HDD. (2 HDDs = 1 HDD)

When using RAID-0 (stripping) the size seen by the OS is twice!
Using the RAID-0 configuration, all data on both disks will be lost, even if only one of the two disks fails!!!

I think the RAID is very useful because it safes the HDD content!
Of course, if you use the mirroring option you can use only the one available HDD!!!
But you are on the safe site ;)

for windows 10 lumia please bring back the windows music player the groove is not user friendly

Answer:Why is it when we make suggestions about the disadvantages of an application it takes ages to fix?

Software development takes time. They have to program, test, debug, etc. It can be a process to get it right.
But more to the point of your specific example, Microsoft has committed to Groove as their current and future music platform, they aren't rolling backwards.
However, Windows Media Player is still in Windows 10. You can find it by typing it into Cortana search box beside the start button.

Hey there,

I have about $1,500 dollars to spend on a new computer give or take, and I dont feel comfortable enough to build my own so i've been waiting for the i7-2600 to come back out and I saw this one at costco... http://www.costco.com/Browse/Product.aspx?Prodid=11513502&whse=BC&Ne=4000000&eCat=BC|84|56671|78518&N=4047242&Mo=37&pos=0&No=5&Nr=P_CatalogName:BC&cat=78518&Ns=P_Price|1||P_SignDesc1&lang=en-US&Sp=C&ec=BC-EC10600-Cat56671&topnav= (i would have to add a video card to it)...
or if someone could build me one at www.ibuypower.com for the same kind of cash that would be awesome as well.

Thanks in advance,

Yesterday I posted about Advantages of Windows 8 over Windows 7. Here is another thread on Windows 8, this time to list down the disadvantages of Windows 8 over Windows 7. Not many at this point as I am yet to discover what all is happening behind the scenes. My concern has always been safety and privacy. So much so that I regularly run online scans to see if there are any keyloggers. I use the on-screen keyboard in Windows to use my bank account (unfortunately, my bank does not provide one). It might be an obsession but keeps my mind at peace.
1. It was tough to decide whether to use the default antimalware in Windows 8 or to install 3rd party antivirus. I do trust the abilities of Windows Firewall from Vista itself so there is no problem there. But then, is the default antivirus good enough? I have not yet installed any anti-virus on Windows 8 as I am still looking for a detailed literature that explains how it works. If you know of any resource, please let me know.
2. Media Player: What is this thing? What happened to the default codecs? Where are all the options present in the good old WMP? Are they hidden or completely done away with? No DVD support is understandable. I can use VLC player in case I need to play a DVD but then, what if I wish to rip a DVD into WMV format? One option is to install a video converter and convert from DVD. On Win7, I use AnyVideo Convertor. For some reason, it won't install on Windows 8. Did anyone else face similar problem?
3. Privacy: I... Read more

Answer:Disadvantages of Windows 8 Over Windows 7

Happy with the performance of Windows 8 on my main machine, went ahead and installed it on another machine with 1.5GB RAM on 1.6MHz processor. Guess what? Uninstalled it and went back to Windows 7. Also, removed Office 2013 from Windows 7 on that machine. Reason: <xyz> not responding... Click a menu and wait for minutes before the drop down list appears.
Microsoft said any machine capable of running Windows 7 will run Windows 8 conveniently. No, it won't. Dear Microsoft, you are wrong!
