Satellite A120 - Touchpad scroll issues

Question: Satellite A120 - Touchpad scroll issues

At seemingly intermittent points, my laptop scrolls down uncontrollably to the point where it is unusable.
It only ever scrolls down, and stops just as suddenly as it started.

I have tried everything I can think of, scanned many times for viruses and reinstalled the touchpad drivers and am now at the end of my tether.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A120 - Touchpad scroll issues

Does your laptop have an Accupoint (between the G, H, B keys)?

Maybe that is causing the cursor to drift. Try disabling the Accupoint in the Mouse Settings in Control Panel.

Hi

I have just brought a new A500/026 laptop and when I play music from my ipod I get a small pop static sound on regular intervals during the song... this happens on all my music. I accidentally scroll horizontally across my touhpad and my screen minimises or maximises. I try to locate how I did it but can never seem to get it back to its normal state. There is obviously some kind of function here, can anyone help me with what this is? I have installed the x64 bit version of windows 7.

Thanks

Eddie

Answer:Issues with sound and scroll function on touchpad on my Satellite A500/026

Hi

The touchpad settings are placed in control panel -> mouse
There you will find the additional tab which would allows you to access the touchpad properties.

As far as I know the touchpad properties contains a lot of different options which allows you to configure the scroll function, to enable and to assign different actions to the touchpad corners, etc?

Check it!

Hi,

I started noticing this when I installed the Google Sketchup application - which allows one to utilize any hardware graphic acceleration via OpenGL.
When I have the OpenGL option ON, it no longer displays objects created properly. When I have it OFF, it is fine and running properly.

It was not a train-smash.

As curiosity got the better of me, I installed some games, namely Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna which utilizes the on-board graphics card: Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset. Clearly, something with the graphic driver was just not working properly. I cannot find a new driver update beyond the one I have. I am really not worried about the game, I am more worried about not being able to run Google Sketchup with OpenGL! It makes a big difference with OpenGL support!

I tried Intel's graphic chipset downloads, and it told me that i should be speaking to Toshiba... so here I am...

I'd really like to know what I can do at this stage... because it is affecting my work.

My system is
Notebook: Satellite Pro A120 (PSAC1E)
Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset with driver version: 7.14.10.1147 (current download on Toshiba)
DirectX 10

Thanks.

Answer:OpenGL issues on Satellite Pro A120

Hi,

in your case I would try the drivers from the Intel site which could perhaps solve your problem. There could be also a chance for a solution by visiting the opengl site

-> http://www.opengl.org/

and downloading the latest version of OpenGL. Maybe it would be worthy to update your DirectX because this could also be a reason for your OpenGL issues...

Can anyone help me with this.
My laptop is a new Satellite Pro A120-185 with Windows Vista.

I had less configuration of my last laptop, but you know what? It was faster!!

I am supposed to have cetrino duo 2, 2 GHz processor and 4 MB of cach, plus FSB 667 MHz, RAM 1 GB although they are 533 MHz, 100 GB HDD with 5400 RPM.

Eveything is slow, not only booting, opening programs, playing something, the browser, and even copying from the CD to the hard disk sometimes gives me remaining time 4 days !

Clicking on something takes forever. What is wrong?
Need less to say that with vista none, and I mean none, of my peripherals are now working. Bluetooth dongle, USB disk, printer, NAS, and and...

Answer:Performance issues on a Satellite Pro A120-185 with Windows Vista

Hey dude,

Please don?t forget that Vista was installed on your notebook and additional Toshiba tools and utilities which control many additional features!!!
There is a huge difference between the Vista and early MS operating systems.

The Vista eats the computer resources and many old peripherals don?t work or cannot be installed because the 3rd device manufacturers don?t provide the Vista drivers!!!

In my opinion a ram upgrade up to 2GB would increases the notebook performance.
All the utilities and programs could be loaded faster?

I have a Satellite L750 (my first Laptop and first touchpad) running Windows 7. I have set the mouse scroll to 1 line at a time but every time I place the pointer on the right scroll bar down arrow (and press the left button or tap) the screen jumps so that the scroll bar is at the bottom. I want the screen to 'inch' down slowly as it would if I was using a mouse wheel.

Yes, I know that the answer is probably very easy so please, those folks that are itching to reply remember I am a 'newbie' at touchpads.

Regards

Answer:Satellite L750 - How do I scroll with the touchpad?

Hey,

You can scroll with the touchpad on right side of it. Just move your finger up or down on the right side of touchpad and you can scroll with this gesture. It?s not complicated and very easy.
Furthermore such basic operations are described in user manual and I would recommend reading it. ;)

If you are not familiar with the touchpad you can also connect an external USB mouse (same mouse like on a desktop computer). Such external mouses are not expensive and you don?t need a driver for that. Just connect it to one USB port and it?s ready to use :)

I have Lenovo IdeaPad z510 laptop with windows 10 (upgraded from 8.1).
For a few months (or more?) I have a problem with my touchpad:

In some situations it doesn't work at all. Sometimes it works just fine. And sometimes it's so fast that I can't control what it's doing. And it's not always the same speed. And sometimes the faster I try to scroll the slower it actually goes.

Note: I use 2-finger scroll.

Examples:
Google Chrome:
It seems to work just fine, but sometimes (witout any obvious pattern other than that when it happens - it happend everytime I try) when the window is out of focus or when I scroll with just the right speed - it goes uncontrollably fast. And when it does that - the faster I try to scroll the slower it goes (I will later describe it as faster=slower)

Netbeans/all java programs:
Works only when the window is not in focus. And sometimes too fast. And faster=slower

Steam:
Doesn't work at all

Windows CMD window:
Way too fast to do anything. Even with 10000 lines (max) it's so fast that I can't measure the faster=slower effect.

Explorer.exe, Edge browser:
These work fine

What may be possibly wrong and how to fix it!?

I'm 100% sure it's fixable because it works correctly on linux.

Hi!

Did you activate the virtual scroll function in Synaptics driver?

You should check this because this feature must be enabled. Go to control panel => Mouse => Device Settings => Settings => Virtual Scrolling.

Therefore the Synaptics driver must be installed. I?m using the driver from the Toshiba website and don?t have any problems.

Hi guys,

in 2007 i bought my Toshiba Satellite A110-156, shortly after i got vista home from Toshiba as an present for my new Laptop.
All good, only my touchpad didn't scroll.

After a new driver version 703014, it works.
Only vista keeps naggin by the start up. I have to accept the drivers three times before it works.
Every time by a start up!

After a while, i finally found the solution - sadly enough - this weekend i had to reinstall my laptop en forgot what the solution was.
I have the same driver, version 703014 from the toshiba site and saddly the same problem.

I can't find the solution on the dutch sites, so i hope you can help me!

I already tried to install the drivers by de hardware programs, this didn't help!

Answer:Satellite A110-156 - touchpad doesn't scroll

Hi

Maybe you have to configure the touchpad again?

I think you will find the touchpad settings in control panel -> mouse.
There you have to search for the touchpad entry? I?m not sure if you have to got to the properties or settings but one of this option should be available to get advanced touchpad settings.

The A110-156 seems to be a PSAB0E series?
If you are using the Vista then you have to update the BIOS to the 5.20-WIN version because this BIOS is only for Vista usage!

Hi, like I said just turned on the laptop as usual, but for some reason now the Touchpad will not Scroll (but works to touch to click). And, the Bottom bar Disappears only when I am on the internet chrome (on chrome its gone, but still there on internet explorer, but who wants to use explorer!! lol).

It makes it so hard to click between research and writing! Its always there like it should be on word doc , excel etc.

Small things, but super annoying and I dont understand why the change, or how theyre connected. Would just like them fixed, its so silly it would just change on me.

Any help is much appreciated!!
Thanks, Jenna

Answer:Touchpad does not scroll and bottom bar disappears on Satellite Pro L

Hi

The touchpad settings can be changed in control panel -> mouse
Here you have to go to last tab ?Advanced? and click on Advanced setting button.

Now you should get a menu with all options available for touchpad.
There should be a option called ?Use Scroll function?. This should be checked/enabled.

Check this!

Hi

Yes, the Satellite L500 supports virtual scrolling.

But therefore you need the touchpad driver, this feature is software based as on other notebook. It?s not a problem because the driver is already preinstalled and additionally you can download it on the Toshiba page. :)

Hi

Does this means that scrolling function is available after the installation of Win 7?

Hmm? for me it sounds like you would need to configure this touchpad function.
You can do this in control panel -> mouse -> device settings
There should be an additional tab containing all the touchpad options?

There you could change and increase the touch area which is needed for scrolling and similar? you could increase the sensitivity too?

One day I realized I had lost pinch and scroll functions on my touch pad. Don't know why.
So I tried to install a Synaptics touch pad Driver. This provided the missing functions but the Cursor got delayed and the sensitivity of the touch pad was restricted to a certain spot. Therefore I de-installed the Synaptic Driver again.
The sensitivity issued got cured but I still had no pinch and scroll function on the touch pad.
Therefore I went to the Toshiba download site and learned that the ALPS Driver was the original Driver.
I tried to install this Driver (as requested for 64 bits).
The installation seemed to pass smoothly. After re-starting there is still no pinch and scroll functionality and nowhere the driver is found neither in the programs list nor added to the "mouse" Screen in the System functions Folder.

How can I get that pinch, zoom and scroll functions back to my touch pad?

Answer:Satellite L50-B - lost touchpad pinch and scroll functions

This sounds like program interference, you will need to perform a clean boot and disable firewall and antivirus and then try and install the driver. Here is a description on how to perform a clean boot, https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

Your Satellite S50T-A seems to support a Touchpad with additional features like click pad with multi-touch control gestures supporting various scroll, zoom and launch functionalities at your fingertips.
You can disable this and other features in
Control panel -> mouse -> Device Setting tab -> Setting button

So since the Windows 10 update my 2-finger scroll on the touchpad on my Yoga 2 Pro sucks. Sometimes it will work to scroll down for a first swipe then when I pick my fingers up to keep srolling it wont scroll at all. Then I cant get to to scroll anymore after that. It sometimes acts like ti wants to zoom and gives this werid cursor on the screen, but it doesnt do anything.

This is super annyoing and now I either have to click and scroll or hit the arrors to scroll. It only seems to be an issue in Chrome. MSOffice programs seem to work fine.

Hi.

I bought a Z30 and i'm pretty happy with it as I worked for years with Thinkpads (+ Dock)
but there are some minor (more or less can be adresses as driver) issues I discovered.

Notice: I'm using Win7 64.

1) With the Replicator Docking Station I'm not able to undock while the USB Audio Device is Running.
Like you play a Video or some Music. - I searched for some newer driver (from C-MEDIA) as the standard Microsoft Driver may not be the beste choice but I didn't find ANY Win7 Driver for this device. The only C-MEDIA Drivers I found is for Win8.

2) ALPS Touchpad (driver)... Huh.... the only hardware mistake on this model really seems to be the touchpad. It is pretty hard to click the AccuPoint Buttons (the ones beneath the keyboard) and the touchpard drivers aren't flexible in any way. Gestures are not really implemented as they should.. seems to be like ALPS had to work on without much time. Synaptics would have been a much better choice.
The driver can't be adjusted at scrolling speed with gestures and the default value is WAY... really ridiculous WAY to fast. In short It's unuseable for regular uses. This effects the right scrolling stripe, the gesture with two fingers and also the circle gesture. there is desperately missing a slider to change the speeds. Or at least some registry guidance to adjust the settings.

Also please advice ALSP to add the 2 finger tap as a regular feature to the driver. It can be used without any problems after minor registry... Read more

Answer:Portege Z30 / Replicator Audio driver Issues + Touchpad scroll

I think the user manual contain some parts which refers to different Toshiba models like Portege Z30-A /Z30t-A / Satellite Z30-A /Z30t-A

Some models are equipped with NFC function but cannot say for sure which models support this feature exactly.
Fact is that in many cases the additional M.2 connector is free for such additional modules.

Regarding UEFI mode: check if BIOS update would add it. Some notebooks supported such function after the BIOS update.

Hi,

the Alps touchpad driver for W8.1 that is currently supplied by Toshiba does not have an option to adjust the vertical scroll speed of the two finger gesture. With the default speed, even leaning the fingers downwards without moving them results in a scroll that is equivalent of PAGE_DOWN, e.g. way to fast. The version I use is the latest one from the website (tpdrv-20140306120847.zip)

There is a registry entry in HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Alps/Apoint that make the situation a bit more bearable (set ScrollLines to 1), but there is no way to adjust if further it in the settings or the registry

A newer Alps Driver (8.103.404.104) from another company has this option and scrolling works like it should on the lowest speed, but it does not support 2-finger rightclick.

Why does toshiba use an outdated driver that is missing this critical function? Is there a new driver available? Did anyone find a fix for this?

Answer:Satellite Z30 - Updated Touchpad Driver with adjustable scroll speed?

Hi

From my knowledge notebook manufacturers modify and adjust the own drivers.
The driver versions are always different and are not always comparable with driver versions released by other notebook manufacutrers.

As you said above:
the Alps driver released by Toshiba does not support the scroll speed but at the other hand it supports the 2-finger right click.
The other driver supports the scroll speed option but doesn?t support the finger right click.

Well it would nice to have an driver which would support all the mentioned options.
So I think we can just wait and hope that the next releases will support some more nice-to-have features?

My touchpad (Alps Ver. 7.0.302.8) looses the scroll function periodically when switching between web sites in Firefox.
Under "mouse properties" the graphic shows no activity for the scrolling activity.

It usually highlites the graphic when I touch the scroll area of the touchpad. I am at the latest driver ver., but have not tried removing & reinstalling it yet. Anyone know if this is likely a Vista (Vista Home Premium SP1) issue or an Alps driver issue?
I also occasionally lose my pointer settings, like speed, when awaking from sleep. Not sure of exact conditions when this happens though.

I have seen an issue with my wireless adapter not being recognized after after sleep.
For this, I must restart the computer & the device is reinstalled.
The problem with the touchpad did not occur for the first 2 weeks of use, but the wireless adapter problem started from day 2 or 3.

Oh, BTW, I also have a Logitech mouse (Ver. 4.24.28.0) installed & Wacom (1.2.2.0) driver installed.
I can do without the Wacom being installed at start, but I do want the Logitech mouse driver installed.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks, kev

Answer:Satellite P305-S8828 touchpad loosing scroll function

Hey kev

We can discuss about this just if you use recovery image or ?factory settings?. You have installed third part driver and the Toshiba responsibility stops there. Nobody knows if there is some negative influence to Toshiba preinstalled driver.

If you want to have full touchpad functionality, use Toshiba stuff only. But if you want to use some external device with own driver or software you must live with it.

Hello, I got my new Lenovo Ideapad U410 (Windows 7) yesterday and I'm just starting to get things going. The one thing that has been bothering me is that I can't scroll uing the touchpad. It must be the Page Up button/Scroll Lock using the Fn Key, but I've tried it and absolutely nothing happens. The Fn Key works for the upper keys (F1, F5, etc.) but not for the buttons on the side (Home/Pause, End/Break, PgUp/ScrLk, PgDn/Insert). I figure I should reinstall keyboard drivers? Hi, since you got the laptop yesterday, did you install / uninstall any drivers? Or did the problem exist right up? ?f the former please roll the driver(s) back. ?f the problem occured later on,you could do a system restore, if you have a restore point, or even since the system is so new,you could restore to factrory settings. after backing up. Otherwise please call Lenovo support, they'll advise you.

I just had my new W530 delivered yesterday, unfortunately with Windows 8 Professional. I noticed that the cursor would not move when I moved my finger across the touchpad or the cursor was "stuck" until I tried a repeat movement with my finger. I adjusted almost every setting on the latest lenovo driver which provides for windows 8 screen gestures. The responsiveness to windows 8 gestures does not appear that good, but it is a story for another post. The main reason for my post is that vertical scrolling barely works in IE 10.I have all the smart check items disabled and the palmcheck lowered to 3. I've got the touch sensitivity to light, but have also tried heavy. I have to push like I'm trying to crack the case to get the cursor to move up and down, and often I will touch the right side of the touchpad and nothing happens or it takes a few tries of swiping to get the window to move up or down. I called two support agents and the first one reminded me I have 30 days to return the unit for a refund, and the second guy had me update the driver with the lenovo update utility which showed the same version as the one I downloaded and installed. It made no difference. He then suggested that if I keep the laptop, the trackpad needs replacing. From looking at some other posts, I really wonder if the pad could be ok, but lenovo is actually selling this thing with a trackpad that performs that poorly. &nb... Answer:Touchpad vertical scroll horrible or touchpad defective

On the W520, the two finger scrolling is unusable, it just randomly jerks the window, or not. Tried every trick in the book when I first got my W520, after a couple of months of wasting time gave up and only use it with a mouse. The W520 has the worst trackpad in the history of computing devices (and the worst mic and speakers, or at least worst drivers). If you need a working touchpad, dont by a Lenovo W series.

Hello,

Recently my touchpad has started malfunctioning. If I move my finger on it constantly during boot up it works fine in windows, however inactivity for around a second causes it to freeze. If I close then restart apoint.exe, it works as long as there is constant activity on the pad.

First I uninstalled original drivers then installed the most up to date versions. This did not solve the problem. Then, rather excessivly I formatted the hdd, reinstalled windows and drivers, this did not solve the problem.

I would say it was clearly a hardware fault but it works perfectly as long as there is constant activity and when it does freeze, restarting apoint.exe sorts it out until the next lapse of inactivity!

Please help

Answer:Touchpad issues on Satellite P10-304

Hi

I think this could be only a hardware malfunction.
After fresh installation of OS and the Tosh drivers the touchpad should be enabled without any touching.

But what about the function FN+F9?
Does the touchpad work if you enable or disable the FN+F9?
Please check it

Hi All,

I recently sent my Satellite A30 back for repair because the touchpad died. Since I have had it 'repaired', it behaves erratically. Sometimes I lost all horizontal motion, with only the vertical direction working. Sometimes during a windows session, I lose complete touchpad functionality (including the left/right button).

I have also noticed that a fresh windows session allows me to use the scroll function (side of the touchpad) and also the back/forward facility in web browsers. However, after a little while, windows stopss recognising the scroll and b/f gestures (even though the touchpad icon in my tray highlights the fact I am using them).

I have upgraded my ALPS drivers to the latest version but this didn't fix it.

I am guessing that this is a software issue and not a hardware fault as a reboot fixes these problems temporarily. I'm not sure if there is a hardware problem which then confuses the software. I have no idea.

If anyone has any thoughts or has experienced this before, please let me know as this is most annoying.

Cheers,

Jason

Answer:Touchpad Issues on Satellite A30

Hi

It?s not easy to say why this touchpad issue occurs.
Sometimes very strange issues occur because of overheating. I have noticed that if the temperature goes to the critical level the OS shuts down, the notebook hangs or many strange issues occurs like touchpad malfunction. In your case I recommend checking the cooling modules and try to use the vacuum cleaner for the cleaning. Maybe it helps.

The second possibility is that the touchpad has a malfunction. You know, it was replaced in the past and it?s possible that there is something wrong with the hardware.
You can contact the Toshiba service partner and explain him the situation after touchpad replacing.

Good luck

Hi everyone.

I purchased a brand new Satellite C50 yesterday. Everything is working fine, apart from the TouchPad won't allow me to scroll. Both the two finger scroll and the one finger at the side fail to work. I have tried to update drivers etc but apparently they are up to date. I don't know what else to do. It's really annoying.

Thanks in advance!!

Hi to all,

My name is Bill and I have bought a Satellite A100 6 months ago.

I face a odd problem with my touchpad. More specifically, the Right button is not responding. Some times it clicks automatically and other times it did a left click in contrast to my settings that i have set it to do right click.

I usually use a USB external mouse and as i do my job all of a sudden the right button clicked without click on it.

The most interesting is that I sended my notebook to my local service and they had replaced the touchpad with a new one, but after a while (about 1 month) the problem appears again.

Can someone know something about this? I deduce that maybe motherboard is responsible for, but i am not sure.

I wanna notice that i have checked almost anything about Software issues (I have used recovery CD, I have installed new touchpad drivers, I have looked touchpad setting and so on)

I think that i am very unlucky.

Regards,

Bill

Answer:Touchpad issues on Satellite A100

Hi there,

maybe a solution would be to send your machine to your servicepartner again, and to mention that the problem persists.
So if they ask you, then say you think it can be something with the Main board. So they will check it properly.

:)

You know, if you checked already everything, than that can be for sure a hardware issue.

I purchased a C50-A-1DV Satellite for my wife and have noted 2 significant "features" which to all intent and purposes should be readily resolvable but I'm damned if I can cure them for her.

1st the touchpad (at least I assume it's the touchpad) seems incredibly sensitive. Sidebars, alternate workspace (running windows 8) seem to open-up even without direct contact with the pad. This is really quite annoying but it is just about in bounds for being able to live with it.

2nd the machine is unexpectedly dropping into a sleep/energy save mode. Now personally I've not encountered this one when running through checks on it but the aching of my ear tells me otherwise.

Anyone else experienced this or better still has a solution to this?

The changes to the touchpad can be applied very easily:
Go to control panel -> mouse
Last tab Device Settings would provide you some further options to improve the touchpad functionality.

Take a look into this Toshiba HowTo doc about the touchpad settings. It should be useful for you:
[How to change the Synaptics touchpad settings in Windows 8?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/HTD3101Z30000R01.htm]

Well, you could disable or change the single power plant settings in control panel -> power options.
There you will find the option for sleep and hibernation mode

I have a P-50 C laptop and since I upgraded to Windows10, I have been having problems with my mouse. If the pointer accidentally touches any link, it clicks automatically, without my wanting it. It is particularly irritating when I just leave apage without wanting to, because the pointer was pointing in that direction. I don't know how to solve this issue. I am not an expert in computers and would like a simple remedy for this.

I have a Toshiba Satellite E205, Win 7. A small icon with a picture of the touchpad keeps appearing in the middle of my screen, quickly followed by a similar one, but with a red circle. The mouse or touchpad then freezes briefly. By looking in Task Manager, Processes, I see that this is accompanied by the appearance of touchpadED.exe, which then disappears from processes. I think it started when I unplugged a USB hub with mouse and keyboard from my computer while it was still on. I removed and reinstalled the Synaptics Touchpad driver from Toshiba, ran virus scan and malware software, and cannot stop the process in Task Manager. How can I get rid of this problem??

Answer:Toshiba Satellite E205 touchpad issues

Try installing this: http://www.synaptics.com/resources/drivers It may fail since Toshiba has very bad support for drivers coming from manufacturers.

Hi,

my touchpad stopped functioning properly half a year ago. Additionally it blocks my keyboard as well. If I go to sleep mode then start the notebook again then the keyboard starts functioning but not the touchpad. Then at some days touchpad comes back to life and works for a while perfectly.

Also, the notebook has started to heat up recently, especially around the touchpad's place.

I have my drivers installed so I guess that it should not be a problem. What can be?

Thanks.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Touchpad and keyboard issues

Hi buddy,

Maybe you should update the touchpad driver. You can download driver updates on official Toshiba website:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

There you should find a newer version of touchpad driver.

Regarding the keyboard it would be interesting to know if the same happens with an external one. Can you test this please?

Hi

I have just baught my GF a refurbed Toshiba laptop for her 21st birthday from a reliable source, its a Satellite Pro L300.

I started it up did all the setup stuff it told me to only to find that the touchpad and keyboard will not work AT ALL.
The keyboard caps lock key doesn't even light up when I press it,
I've downloaded all the latest drivers for EVERYTHING inc. the touchpad, this has made no difference,

I'm running out of ideas fast and coming to terms with the fact that the keyboard and touchpad might be faulty and as a result ill have to give my GF a faulty laptop for hewr 21st, not happy :(

Does any1 have any ideas?

Thanks :)

Edit: OK, very odd, right after i sent this message i tried the keyboard one more time and it works fine?
Could it be something 2 do with the downloading of the VAP package?

The touch pad is still knackered even when i try the fn + f9 combo?

Ok,

I can't seem to find a way of fixing this or the cause of the problem.

Here it is:

I haven't had the laptop for that long and already thinking it is a terrible thing. When I start my laptop there is like a 70% chance of the keyboard not starting (this is up until it gets to the windows login) then around a 15% chance the touch pad wont start. If the touchpad wont start then I just shut down the whole laptop and start again but there is a chance with the laptop that if I use the on screen keyboard to login then the keyboard will start working again. (around 80% chance) I am getting sick of it.

I probably should have written this in code.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Note: I have tried uninstalling, reinstalling and rollback the drivers, even searching for the most current.

Thanks,
Emz

I have been having trouble with the touchpad. If I move the touchpad anywhere the screen scrolls vertically (not just on the right scroll bar) and the mouse is stationary. When I touch the trackpad underneath the clickable buttons it somehow disables scrolling so I can move the mouse.

I have gone to control panel mouse options and:

Hello everyone!

I am facing some problems with my laptop A500-1HK AND I would like to have your opinion!

the last month the application eco Utility can not be activated from the keyboard from the special botton in the botton of the keyboard although Ihear the special sound because its touch botton (so it works fine). I can activate it only from the start menu and then the touch botton in the keyboard becomes green.

At the top of the touchpad (mouse) there is a botton that activate / deactivate the touch pad. this again doesn't work.

Some times when I work, the screen becomes black and then after 5-7 seconds it becomes to normal with a message that nvidia GeForce GT 330Μ had stop working but now works ok! (is it something serious?)

At the taskbar there is an icon with a yellow exclamation mark that says the function RST Intel doesn't work. What is this?

Keep in mind that I have install all drivers to the last version but nothing has changed! I have windows 7 64bit GR

Thanks in advance!

Go to control panel -> Programs and features

Then visit the Toshiba EU driver page and search for the ECO Utility.
Download the software and reinstall it.

The same like the ECO utility. Uninstall the display / graphic card driver
Download the newest driver from Toshiba page and install it

>At the taskbar there is an icon with a yellow exclamation mark that says the function RST Intel doesn't work. What is this?

IRST mean Intel Rapid Storage Manger. It contains the SATA driver for SATA HDD controller.
In case this does not work, reinstall it again.

Hello,

I'm looking for suggestions or ideas how to deal with the keyboard and touchpad problem, which occured right after I've installed new OS. I had to recently recover my notebook from scratch using the CF provided by Toshiba. However after upgrading all the patches from Microsoft my touchpad has stopped working. It is not the Fn+F9 problem.

The driver for Alps is missing, also the application for managing the touchpad also does not show up. I tried installing the patch for Alps from the CD as well as downloaded the driver but it fails with the error code 0x00000103 and then failed init 0x0000000.

Can someone kindly provide me some assistance about how to fix it ?

Thanks,
KK

Answer:Touchpad issues - Error 0x00000103 on Satellite R series

Hmmm.... have you checked the list of all available updates? You should do this before the update starts (disable automatic update).

I have noticed that there is offered option for ?Synaptics ? Input ? Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad? but this update is defined as optional so it must not be installed and you should use Toshiba installed driver only.

What to do now? Try to roll back OS to earlier time using System restore tool. Sorry but now it will not be easy to do much. If nothing helps install OS again using recovery image but then disable automatic updates and do it manually. Always check the list of available updates and avoid updates for hardware components. I do the same and everything works fine.

Hello,
I recently upgraded my Satellite L650-18C (short part no: PSK1JE) to Windows 8 Pro, through a commercial copy. The laptop is running very well and I'm happy with the new OS, but I'm experiencing a couple of issues.

1 - Touchpad
When I first installed Windows the touchpad was using generic drivers, so I went [here|http://pt.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp?service=PT] to download the adequate drivers. I couldn't find any Windows 8 drivers, so I went to Synaptics' website to get drivers directly from there. I only found Windows 7 drivers.
When I try to open the touchpad settings in Windows I get an error message that sounds something like "Can't connect to Synaptics pointing device" and I have to reinstall the drivers.

2 - Wireless connectivity
With an Ethernet cable I high speeds (~70Mbit/s), but over wi-fi, I only get 3.5Mbit/s.
I read that this is related to drivers, so I searched for appropriate drivers, but so far found none that even get installed (I click Yes on UAC and then nothing happens).

I really would like to avoid going back to Windows 7.
Is there anything I can do?
Any help would be very appreciated.

Answer:Wi-Fi connectivity and touchpad issues with Satellite L650 on Win8

At first you must check if your notebook is supported for Win8 or not. Do it on
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/checkWindows8Compatible.do?service=EU

If not then you can try to use drivers for newer but similar notebook models.

WLAN ? I've checked notebook specification and your notebook has WIFI and Bluetooth combo card. It is Wifi 11b/g/n+BT V2.1+EDR (Broadcom BCM94313). Unfortunately on Toshiba WLAN portal you will not find Win8 drivers at the moment.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110, bought a couple of months ago. In the last few weeks it has started randomly locking the keyboard and touchpad (with or without external mouse plugged in - though external mouse always works).

Now there are power up issues, with the system hanging at the Toshiba Bios screen, may fully boot up maybe one time in five.
Wireless network acquisition is also very temperamental. I have tried everything software I can think of (new drivers/virus scan/uninstall-reinstall), with the exception of a full Toshiba back-up disk reinstallation.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A110: keyboard, touchpad, power-up issues

Hi

I think we should firstly find out if the issue is software or hardware related.
In this case the installation of the OS with the Toshiba recovery CD is recommended.
After the installation the notebook should works without any troubles.

But if the unit will hang and will not boot properly than there could be something wrong with the hardware.
I think your warranty is valid and in such case you should always contact the ASP in your county for a checking.

Hi there,

Im having problems with my Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 Touchpad. It was fine until when i was walking down the stairs and accidently dropped it. The hard drive had to be replaced and the touchpad wansn't working. I've tried to diagnose the problem by checking device manager updating driver's etc. And ive narrowed it down to 2 causes: Damaged motherboard OR the touchpad wire has come loose/off. So as im really good with computers and very good with laptop's i need to disassemble my Laptop to get to the touchpad wire and check it out first. And then i will know if it is the touchpad or the motherboard. 2. Does not always boot from battery as it is continually flat. Laptop went to ASP who replaced motherboard (again) and put new battery. Now it is always best to run the laptop from the power adaptor as the battery is still losing charge. If unplugged from mains supply battery goes flat over night????

3. Refused to boot up with the power button, talked to ASP who advised to reformat PC - did that but problem still remained

4. Reformatted lots more times and in end sent back to ASP as now the keyboard did not always work either. ASP replaced the motherboard (that is now the third one) but hasn't resolved the problem, and the keyboard. Battery still not holding charge

How can I resolve the power on and touchpad issue?

Hello everyone!

I've had my laptop for a while but I've never actually had the time to take care of the problems that came with it.

Ever since I've gotten it, all the way in July, my touchpad wouldn't work properly.
As simple as that. It would work for a couple of seconds at startup, then it would just get stuck in scroll mode.

My keyboard sometimes just stops working after a long while of using my laptop.

When my laptop shuts off after I'm away from keyboard, after turning it back on, the screen is black.
Each time I need to close it, let it go into sleep mode, then reopen it in order for the screen to display everything.

I have no idea why, also, but all three of my explorers are very buggy. Chrome, Mozilla and IE.
My videos just randomly stop, reload and rebuffer with much lower quality.
They like to close for no reason too. When I'm browsing a page as simple as Facebook, I get framerate issues, I can't scroll down properly as when I do, I find myself skipping through sections because it's that buggy.

Can someone help? Thanks.

Answer:Satellite L50D-B-131 - multiple issues: touchpad, keyboard, internet

Guess what?
It?s hard to believe that all this issues would be related to one ?general? problem.

For example the described internet explorer issues sounds to me like a slow internet connection. Probably the internet browsers are not able to load all the video data (probably in HD resolution) and therefore the video start to play using lower resolution.

The touchpad supports some additional features which could be configured within the ELAN settings. (control panel -> mouse -> ?ELan? settings in last tab)
If you don?t use all the touchpad features, I would recommend you to disable the options in the Elan configuration menu.

Some issues sound also like the system would be locked for a short time.
Why? I?m not quite sure about that but maybe some application run in the background and lock the system for a while.

I?m wondering if you already tried to recover the notebook back to factory settings.
If not; try it out. Feedback would be appreciated.

Only models with ATI chipset can be upgraded to 2GB and I think this is the reason why some websites say it can be upgraded to 2GB and others to 4GB.

However, for the RAM upgrade DDR2-RAM PC2-5300 (DDR2-677). You can buy 2GB modules for a maximum of 4GB.
But don?t forget that only a 64bit OS supports 4GB RAM.

I am in the market for a A120, I only have a limited budget of 450 so I have to get this right. Can anyone confirm whether the cheapest A120 (PSAC0E-007009EN) has tv-out/svhs-out. I know the A100 has tv-out, but what really attracts me to the A120 is the inclusion of 5:1 card reader.

I ask the question because the specifications say nothing about tv out, yet the virtual tour clearly shows the A120 having Tv out.

hope someone can help me out.

Cheers

Answer:Does Satellite A120 have TV Out port?

Hi

I have found some infos about the price of the Satellite A120. At this time you have to pay about 949 euros for the unit with Celeron Processor M410, 1149 euros for Core Duo Processor T2300E and 1290 euros for Core Duo Processor T2400.
But you know it depends on the dealer and country where you will purchase this unit.

As far as I know this unit supports a connection to external monitor but I don?t found any informations about the s-video or tv-out. Possibly this unit doesn?t support these interfaces

Hi,

Does anyone know where I can get a dc jack for a Satellite Pro A120.
These seem to be quite rare models.

I have spent hours searching though google and parts websites but just cant locate this.

Anyone?

Answer:From where can I get the AC Adaptor for Satellite Pro A120

Hi

All compatible Toshiba notebook parts can be ordered from the local ASP.
The authorized service in your country could order such part from Toshiba if it would not be on stock.

But as far as I know the Satellite Pro A120 needs a *PA3092U-1ACA* Universal AC Adaptor which supports 15 V, 4 A, 60 W.

Try to search for this part number in internet and I?m sure you would find some offers.

Hello, I need a new motherboard for my laptop Satellite Pro A120 as I stupidly spilled an entire pint of orange squash over it..
it has been dried out and cleaned but still no power, just a little orange light thats flashes..

I have spoken to Toshiba and they said it probably needs a new motherboard..
I have searched everywhere but I cannot seem to find one..

can anyone please help me??

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 needs new motherboard

Hi

The motherboard can be ordered from the ASP in your country but the new mobo will costs a tiny fortune because the mobo is one of the expensive notebook parts.

You could also search on some internet webpage?s like Ebay or similar to get a second hand mobo? maybe you could find an second hand Sat Pro A100 with good motherboard.

Hi,

I've had my Satellite Pro A120 for just over a month now, and in that time it's frozen maybe five or six times. This is the type of crash where the system completely stops responding, cannot be recovered using the task manager to end processes, and the only remedy is to turn it off and turn it back on again. When this has happened, the laptop hasn't been running any particularly demanding programs, maybe Word, iTunes or Mozilla Firefox.

Could this be due to overheating? The unit often feels warm to the touch around vents on the left hand side, but not excessively hot. Is there a utility I could use to see if any of the hardware is defective?

I've run the Toshiba PC diagnostic tool, but it says the hard drive, memory and processor are all fine.

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 freezes sometimes

Hi

Well, it?s not easy to say why it happened.
Yes, your suggestion is right. Something like that could happen if the temperature is too high. But if the notebook overheats the OS should shut down the unit automatically without any warnings.
However, to prevent from overheating, be sure that there is enough free space around the notebook for a good air circulation.

But also software issue could be a reason for any frizzing. Then OS on my brother?s notebook has frizzed many times. I have simply installed the fresh WinXP and since then everything is ok.
You should investigate a little bit?

Hi

I have recently lost all sound on my Satellite Pro A120. I am running XP SP2 and have tried to uninstall and re-install Raltek drivers. Prior to that I went through the help program from windows, but that only told me that everything was working okay. Can anyone help me please.

Answer:No sound from Satellite Pro A120

No sound? The only solution I've found is to get a USB headset like the Logitech USB Headset 20. I have had this same problem with my Tecra 9100 for almost 6 months. I tried on a pair of USB Headset and it works! because it bypasses your internal soundcard. The downside is that if you have a great pair of speakers on your laptop, then it's kind of a waste that you can never use it. But at least, with this, you can now listen to CDs and chat on the internet

Hiya guys,

I?m new to this forum and looking for a bit of technical advice. I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my Satellite Pro A120-166 to the full 4GB threshold as described in the manual.

How do I choose what memory to buy? Does the memory speed have to match the FSB on the Processor or what?

The online manual lists the [email protected] 533MHz however if I go into System performance on my laptop it states that it is an Intel(R) [email protected], 800MHz, 256MB of RAM. Does this therefore mean my FSB is 800 MHz?

The online manual says my laptop comes with 256MB of DDR2 ram (533 MHz) so I'm kinda lost as to what MHz rating of memory to buy now.

Please help!

Answer:RAM upgrade on Satellite Pro A120-166

Hello

You are right about maximum RAM. You can upgrade it up to 4 GB.
Toshiba recommends for usage compatible PA3513U-1M2G (DDR2-667 2GB Memory Kit).

You can also use Kingston module. Visit their page and there you will find the list of compatible modules.
Please don't be confused about MHz. You can use module with 667 MHz.

I recently bought a Satellite Pro A120 with Windows Vista Business. I have a problem with the DVD drive (Mat****a DVD-RAM) in that sometimes when I insert a software CD the drive spins up but doesn't recognise the disc.

I've tried different CD's but the problem is the same. I can only resolve the problem by rebooting the machine. This seems to always happen unless the PC has only just been booted.

I have installed the latest BIOS and still have the problem.

Answer:CD Not Recognised - Satellite Pro A120

Hi

Do you mean the CD cannot be read or the ?AutoPlay? popup window does not appear?
Did you use the compatible CD?s??

In the user manual you should find a list of compatible CD?s & DVD?s.
But you should know that the user manual lists only the CD and DVD manufacturers and NOT vendors like TDK or Verbatim, etc...

In the internet you could find a freeware software which finds out what is the manufacture of used CD or DVD.
Then you can compare the manufacture of your CD/DVD with the compatible and supported manufactures from the user manual.

If the CD or DVD is not listed as supported or compatible medium then some different compatibility issues could appear.

Hi,

I'm running seriously low on HDD space and want to upgrade my HDD in my Sat Pro A120 128. Is there a max size that I can upgrade to? Does this model take SATA or IDE?
Any suggestions on make & model HDD to upgrade to?

Thx!

Answer:Satellite Pro A120-128 - HDD upgrade

The laptop can take 2.5" SATA HDD's.

These models came with 80GB/100GB/120GB HDD's, so a 120GB HDD or a 128GB SSD should work fine.

However, sizes above 137GB may not work due to the LBA48 limitation on older PC's. http://www.48bitlba.com
But a 160GB or 200GB might work fine, you just need to test it before buying the HDD.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated thank you in advance

Answer:Satellite A120 recovery

No, without the recovery disc you cannot reinstall the machine. BUT: you can go to an earlier restore point of Windows if this option is activated. You can access the restore manager by clicking on Start -> Programs -> Accesoires -> System Restore.

A System Restore Manager will open and guide you trough the further steps. I would choose an really early restore point to exclude any contingencies.

Copied from the underside of the computer:

Toshiba Satellite Pro A 120 Model Number PSACOE 007009EN

The OS is Windows XP Home.

It has 512MB RAM installed, but I'd like to add another 512MB - or even another 1GB, although with the 1.46GHz process, there's probably little to be gained.

I know very little about computers. I gather that if it's an A120, it needs DDR 667 PC 2 5300 200 pin SODIMM; if it's an A120/007 (which looks possible from the model number quoted above), then it takes DDR 533 PC 2 4200 200 pin SODIMM.

If in doubt, would it do any harm to buy DDR 667 - would it be "backward compatible" with DDR 533? And would it work with the existing RAM if that happens to be DDR 553? I'm hoping it would; simply working at the speed of the lower RAM.

Forgive me if I seem to "disappear" - I'm not too sure about my way around the forum yet, but will try to check back from time to time.

I'm also posting another thread about start-up programmes - I assume it's better to stick to one main question per thread.

Answer:What exactly model is my Satellite Pro A120 and what RAM does it take?

Hi

According to this page you can use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM memory modules
http://www.orcalogic.co.uk/asp/prodtype.asp?prodtype=42661&ft=m&st=3
The point is that DDR2 667MHz and DDR2 533MHz modules could be used.

But everything depends on the FSB (front side bus). If the FSB would support max 533MHz then the faster memory modules 667Mhz would be clocked down and would run only with 533mHz

Hope I could help you.

Have a look on the Toshiba website for the Brochure for your model notebook, it should specify the max RAM you can install.

Once you know that, you can purchase extra RAM (ensure its compatible with the A120) and install it yourself, or get an ASP to install it for you.

When you use Toshiba recovery image OS will be installed with all necessary drivers, tools and utilities. If yo0u don't have it you must use Microsoft installations CD to install OS. After doing this you must install all missing stuff additionally but it is not big deal.

Please visit Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads
Choose the right notebook model and preinstalled operating system.
All drivers, tools and utilities will be listed there. If you need stuff for WXP please check first entry on the list. There you will see ?Installations Instructions? document. This text document contains the right installations order.

I have checked the specification of your notebook on the Toshiba page and this notebook can be upgraded to 4GB RAM. Therefore you have to use two 2GB modules with DDR2 (533 MHz) technology.

You can get new RAM from an authorized service provider or from every computer shop. I have good experience with high quality modules from Kingston.

Incidentally, can someone please explain why Toshiba provide all the necessary drivers for the operating system if they don't provide you with the operating system itself - i.e. they give you a disc image which already has all the drivers preinstalled on it.... Doesn't make much sense to me, unless you were to find your own copy of windows XP, which probably won't work with the Toshiba windows XP serial key in the first place and then try and download and install each individual driver?!! I think not.

And note; there are more ASPs in your country as only one.

So maybe you should contact several service points.

I am having problems with a Satellite Pro A120 laptop. When the laptop is switched on it is possible to open the CD/DVD drive, hence I know that the drive functions.

However, when the laptop is switched on, the computer shows the screen "In touch with tomorrow TOSHIBA" for a long while, and then the screen goes black and the message CD-ROM ERROR" appears. The D drive does not show on explorer.

I have found instructions to delete LowerFilters and UpperFilters from
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SYSTEM CurrentControlSet/Control/Class/4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318.

by running “regedit”, but when rebooting the laptop the problem remains.

I have tried also tried to run the “Product recovery” CD from an external Drive, but the reboot ignores the CD, although, once the reboot is complete it can be seen that it that the external drive has been registered.

When the computer is logged off a message about “memory that could not be read” appears.

I would be most grateful for a prompt response.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A120 - CD-ROM error appears

Hey,

To be honest if the CD-ROM error message appears before Windows starts it seems to be a hardware malfunction. So maybe the CD/DVD drive is not recognized properly and so the Toshiba screen appears for a long while.

Deleting the upper- and lowerfilters will not help you, this is software based only?

You should search for a new CD/DVD drive. Therefore you can ask an authorized service provider in your country. They can offer you a compatible drive. :)

Please can someone let me know what the procedure is for getting a replacement keyboard for an out-of-warrenty Satellite Pro A120 laptop in the UK.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite Pro A120 and keyboard replacement

Well, you can order the compatible keyboard from the ASP in your country.

The addresses and phone numbers you can find here:

http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com -> Support & Download -> Find an Authorized Service Provider

You can also ask the ASP for the keyboard replacement.
But it?s pity that your warranty is not valid. :( So you will have to pay for the replacement.

Anyway, the keyboard replacement is not very tricky and if you have a little experience then you could replace such keyboard by yourself.
To remove the keyboard, follow these steps:

1. Turn over the computer.
2. Open the display and make it flat.
3. Insert your finger tip into the slit on either side and remove the keyboard holder. This is a small plastic cover above the F1-F12 buttons.
4. Remove the 2 flat head screws securing the keyboard.
5. Lift the top edge of the keyboard while releasing the hook and turn the keyboard face down on the palm rest.
6. Remove one screw and keyboard support plate.
7. Disconnect the keyboard cable from the connector on the system board and remove the keyboard.

But note; be always careful and don?t use any force to remove any parts.

If the setting changing will not help try to reinstall the touchpad driver!!!
