Satellite A200-24B Wont Start

Question: Satellite A200-24B Wont Start

I've had my A200-24B for almost 2 years now and the problem i'm having is driving me crazy.

My laptop will not boot at times. All the LEDs come up, the Satellite LED on the bottom left lights up as well. But there is nothing on the screen.
Doesnt matter what OS i use and I've even tried installing the latest version of the BIOS. Nothing.
I can see the hard drive led blinking, and i can even hear the Vista startup sound.
I have to switch it off manually by pressing the power button manually. Even this doest work sometimes. I remember doing the startup-shutdown routine upto 10 times.
The problem now is that Windows 7 goes to repair mode automatically. This never happened with vista.
I even tried changing RAM chips in vain.

Please keep in mind this happens at random and I've have not been able to recognise a pattern.
Any help will be appreciated.

Its still under warranty.

Preferred Solution: Satellite A200-24B Wont Start

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

>Its still under warranty.
Can you see Toshiba welcome screen or enter BIOS settings?
In my opinion you should not play too much with it. Put original Toshiba recovery DVD and install recovery image, if possible. Test it with ?factory settings? and if there is some problem contact nearest service and let them repair your notebook.
Satellite A200 is not newest notebook model and I can imagine warranty is valid for next few months only.

On the other Sattelite A200-19K computer we have here,
When we try to turn it on, the power light comes on, and the AC power light if it is plugged in.
The hard drive light also flashes once then goes off but the screen stays black and the computer makes the usual 'woosh' noise that all computers do but just for a second before dieing out.

We have tried removing the battery then replacing it already but it hasn't worked.
Any ideas on what the problem could be, and how to fix it?

Answer:Satellite A200-19K wont start

Sounds not good dude!
You said you have already tried to replace the battery?

Try to remove the battery and disconnect the AC adapter for about 20-30min.
Then connect everything again and try to start the notebook.
If it doesn?t help then you have no other choice as to contact authorized service provider in your country for a help.
The A200series seems to be not very old so I assume your warranty is valid and the reparation should be done for free.

Good luck

today my Satellite A200-1ZF laptop wouldn't start, instead my power led blinks orange-orange-blue-orange-orange -blue and so on and so on.
The HDD led turns blues when I turn the computer on and seems to work fine (I can hear the normal running sound from the HDD).
I tried removing the RAM module to see if there's a fault in one of the modules, no help. I tried removing the battery and running it only on ac power, also no help.

Anyone got any idea?

Today I decided to turn off as many useless program's as I could (to speed up my pc) so I went to Msconfig (I have vista home premium 32 bit), and turned a lot of things off. Including the "toshiba button support". The next time I restarted my extra buttons on the top of the keyboard all worked, beside one. The one that normally turns windows media player on. This time, it did nothing at all. The play/resume, stop, forward, backward and internet button all worked without problem.
However, I really liked the WMP button, so I tried to find out what the problem was. I found out it was the button support, so I decided to turn it back on.

However, this did not help :( . I turned it on in msconfig again, but it won't start with windows anymore :(. I know it's the program I need, because when I manually launch the program (it's the program: programfiles/toshiba/TBS/HSON.exe ) the button works.
I did put a V in front of the program in msconfig, but that did not work. Anyone has an idea why not?

Edit: I found a solution, although not the best. If anyone ever has the same problem:
I made a shortcut from the program that had to run (can be found in C:programfiles/toshiba/TBS and is called HSON.exe). Next I clicked on start, and said "all programs", here I selected the folder "opstarten", this is the dutch version, but my guess is it is called something like "start up" in english. In this, I pasted (copy/cut -> paste) the shor... Read more

I have a Satellite A200-AH1 (PSAE0C-AH106C), The laptop will power on but the screen stays blank. I tried taking out the battery and letting it sit. I also tried reseating the HDD and RAM.
I tried booting with no RAM at all and did not get a beep error. Any help or suggestions would be very appreciated. BTW the warranty expired 1 month ago (go figure!!).

Answer:Satellite A200-AH1 Wont Boot up

My first idea was to remove the battery and to disconnect the AC adaptor and to wait for about 30min.
But it seems you have already tested it. Is it right?

Hmm?. This is really a difficult situation? if the workaround described above will not help or didn?t help then I don?t see any other way as to contact the Toshiba ASP and to check the notebook.
I mean this issue could be caused by any of the parts on the motherboard.
So we can talk about what this issue could be but only the notebook check could provide an 100% answer.

My toshiba Satellite A200 when press start button the power led is light blue (on) but screen stay off.
I've try to remove RAM and HDD and put back but the screen is still off.

Thank you for your help.

Answer:Satellite A200 wont turn on

Try this:
Disconnect AC adaptor, remove the battery and wait 1 hour.
Then connect both parts again and try to power up the unit.
If the notebook would not power up then you should check the RAM modules.
It would be recommended using new RAM modules for testing?

My notebook didn?t boot up due to RAM fault?
Of course other parts might be faulty too but I think that RAM modules should be checked firstly?

According THIS product specification your notebook can be upgraded up to 4 GB RAM.

At the bottom you can also find part number of compatible RAMs. Listed RAM modules are tested and will work with your notebook.

ive got the toshiba Satellite A200-27z laptop & a while a go it wouldnt turn on at all, i took it to a computer repair shop & they seemed to fix the problem, except they delete all the 'stuff' what the laptop came with.

On the most part it still does the things i want it to do. but recently i went to play a dvd in it & it wont work, although it does play dvds if theyre sent to me through msn etc.

Normally, when i put a dvd in, the toshiba dvd player would automatically load up straight away, but now it wont. when i go to manually open the toshiba dvd player a message comes ups saying:

*the specific drive cannot be located. check the settings by going to settings > action settings > source. or otherwise check that the drive has been properly connected to the pc.*

ive gone into the 'action settings' but the source box is blocked (cant type anything in it). i dont know much about computers and so dont know how to check if the drive is properly connected.

it also wont recognise when i put a cd in it either, as normally if i put a cd in then itunes would automatically load up, now itunes wont show if a cd is in the laptop & i cant find it anywhere.

can anybody help, i have no idea with these things!

Anyone can have an ideea about this strange?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 - baterry wont charge

My first idea is a battery malfunction?.
The described issue looks like something wrong with the battery?

So what to do ?:|

The battery is covered by warranty for about 12month. Therefore a replacement should be done for free.
Contact the authorized service provider in your country and ask for a battery check.

Maybe the guys will send you a new battery immediately for a check.
So don?t waste the time and call the ASP.

Manual states web cam software is configured to start when windows vista is turned on, it doesn't, cannot also restart through program menu as per instructions. Model is Satellite A200. Can anyone help please

Answer:Webcam wont work on Satellite A200

after Vista starts up you should move the mouse to the left edge of the screen and the webcam utility should slide out since it?s hidden and moves out when moving the mouse cursor over it.
Otherwise go to the Drivers Download site and reinstall the webcam software manually.

Would appreciate some feedback if you have found the user interface on the left side of the desktop.

Bought this model laptop in Nov 2007, motherboard failed in January this year, had warranty fix then returned to me late March. Now experiencing same issues as before, and want to know whether i should bother doing warranty again or just get a new laptop.

Issue: Computer working, not overheated, shut down and won't turn on.
Battery and power lights are on, but nothing happening.
Have tried reseating RAM, swapping HDD's out (data is still accessible on both HDD's), battery in, battery out, AC in, AC out etc, waited 12 hours, still nothing.

To be honest, this particular PC has been no end of problems for me, and now failing (with similar symptoms as earlier in the year) would like some advice what to do?

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAF6A wont turn on

This sound really weird? looks like a serious hardware issue (motherboard????)
If the motherboard has been already changed on this notebook then you should definitely contact the ASP again in order to get more information how to proceeding?

As far as I know the replaced part should be covered by warranty for some weeks/month but I?m not really sure therefore you should ask the ASP for details.

Good luck

But last month, strange behaviour.

Vista always perfect closed.

Next day, want to start my PC.
_ON-button is doing nothing_, although battery is 100% ok.

Other issue:

Is this known? Solution ?

I have an A200 with XP PRO installed.
After a routine defrag and restart the laptop when booting back up gets to my screensaver page then makes the noise off shutting back down.

No toolbar appears just goes straight tomy log in page and i have to shut it down?

When I try to restart in any of the three safe modes, again I get to the log in stage press enter the screen flickers twice and I get the login page again?
I have taken out the Ram stick and HDD to see if anything is amiss but they both seem fine..

Xmas eve and no laptop. Yeah I know. Get a life.
Can anybody help?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 does not start up

If you cannot even start your notebook in safe mode it is very bad situation.
What you can try is to obtain Microsoft installations CD and try to boot up with it and use REPAIR option.

If this will not help I really don't know what you can do aside from clean OS installation with recovery media.
Do you have some important data on the HDD?

I bought this laptop about 6 months ago.
I don't use it that much, came to use it yesterday, wouldn't start.
Thought the battery must be dead. Plugged the AC in, nothing. No ac light.

I took the AC cable to my local computer shop.
He did a test on it and he said thats fine.

Has anybody got any ideas what this could be?
Thanks for any help.

Answer:Satellite A200-1AB don't start

Try to remove the battery from the notebook and disconnect the AC for about 20min.
Then connect everything again and try to power up the notebook.

If it does not help remove the battery and connect only the AC to notebook and try to start the notebook.
This is everything what you can do.
If this will still not help, then there is no other way as to contact the technicians in your country.

The authorized service partner should check the notebook.
Because the notebook is about 6 month old, the warranty is valid and everything should be done for free.

Good luck

I have had my Satellite A200-27R for 2 years and 8 months and 2 weeks ago it crashed and turned itself off. At the time I was browsing on the internet and probably had open 3 or 4 webpages when it froze and I had a blue screen with white writing telling me something had gone wrong and my laptop was shutting down to protect itself.

I was unable to turn it back on for 24 hours but when it did come back on it seemd to be working normally again but I backed up all my files incase it happened again. About 10 hours later the same thing happened again: freeze; blue screen and then trying to reboot.

Since then, when I try to turn it back on it either gets stuck on the Toshiba "leading innovation" start up screen; or goes to a black screen and tells me there has been a media test failure and something to do with Realtek about 100x or until I take out the battery so it turns off; or asks me to start in safe mode and do system restore which I have done several times now but this has not helped.

I would be really greatful if anyone could tell me if they had any similar experiences and what they did and if there is anything I can do to fix it? Many thanks.

Answer:Satellite A200-27R cannot start up

BSOD can be the result of serious software problem or hardware issue.
If new OS installation didn?t help you to solve this, I think that the hardware malfunction would cause the BSOD.

Usually the notebook shuts down automatically because of the higher temperature.
Higher temperature can affect other parts like RAM modules or motherboard.
So in many cases the BSOD appears due to memory issue.

I think you should firstly clean the cooling modules. You should remove the dust using a compressed air spray. In most cases this is the best procedure to get rid of the dust.
Then check the RAM modules. You can try to boot the notebook with one module only.
Then switch the modules to different slots in order to check the slots too.

Of course the HDD should be checked too. You can use a free software called Drive fitness Test. It?s good, freeware software which can be downloaded from different pages.

If no of mentioned tips would help you, then I would recommend asking a Toshiba technician for help. They could use some special tools in order to get some results about the malfunction.

Hi all, I'm new here so introductions first The name's Chris from the UK.

A friend has a problem with his laptop and he's left it to me to solve...

What happens
When the computer starts up it loads as normal and gets to the windows loading screen (black screen with progress bar and windows logo) however the progress bar does not appear and after around 20 seconds the computer blinks the blue screen error and restarts...

Here's another issue!
He can't find any of his discs when he bought the computer just to check if he has any form of recovery and he never received a vista disk. The product key is still visible under the laptop...

Ideally he'd like the computer restored to it's original state because he has never backed up any photos and everything for the last 4/5 years has been loaded onto his phone (itunes) In saying that... I've told him it could be a harddrive failure and he may lose everything and he's kind of accepted that as a last resort..

So, what do you think it will be? is it fixable? how can I reset everything without a CD?

thanks for your time all!

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 - Wont boot (constant restart)

Hi there,
if you are going to reformat and lose everything, a standard windows disc may all that need to be required, after all the laptop makers, have all drivers and their recovery software on their website, if you haven't got the original discs and you don't want to pay out for their copies from the company.
you could also try and error check the hard drive, if you can link it up to another computer as a slave, see if you can fix any problems that their might be on it.
Not sure they what you after but they are options around it,

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200 wont boot when the power cable is plugged in, unless it's in safe mode. If it's running on battery, it will boot fine normally, but as soon as I plug the power cable in, it freezes. While on battery power, I've uninstalled EVERYTHING. If I boot windows on battery power, then plug it in, it's fine if I dont do anything, but as soon as I do something like open IE, try to shut it down, etc, it freezes.

So to summarise, everything has been uninstalled, safe mode and battery works fine, but plugged in freezes the laptop.

Anyone got any ideas?

was wondering if anyone could help?
My Satellite Pro A200 with windows XP won't start. It begins with the Toshiba screen.
Then goes to a black screen with text where it says "PXEE61 media test failure - check cable" (I have no cables) then says exiting PXErom; moves onto the next screen which lists options: safe mode; safe mode with networking; safe mode with communal prompt; Last known Good Configeration; start windows normally.

All of which have been tried and results in the windows loading page coming up for about 20 secs then it just gives up and tries the whole process all over again (before flashing a blue screen).

Nothing seems to work - have tried taking the battery out a number oftimes...and the power cable but to no avail.
This has happened before but after a few false starts gets going - however this time it just won't snap out of it. I could take it in to some where locally but i'd prefer not to as I'm living in Spain and need the laptop asap and not sure I want to leave it in some one else's hands at the risk of them wiping the hard drive.

I'd be so so grateful for any help asap and I'm afraid short hand tech may have to be explained.

Many, many thanks.

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 - System won't start

I think the problem is that the OS cannot be found on the HDD.

The ?PXEE61 media test failure - check cable? appears mostly if the notebook tries to boot from the LAN.

Why the notebook tries to boot from the LAN?

- maybe the LAN option was chooses at first in the booting order in the BIOS
- maybe the HDD is faulty and therefore the notebook tries to boot from LAN
- maybe the MBR (master boot record) is faulty

I think you should take the Toshiba recovery CD and should format the HDD and should reinstall the OS.
This should helps.

If not, then the HDD could malfunctions and should be replaced!

Hello, i?m trying to find a whats going on with my laptop. It's a Satellite A200 on Windows 7 professional.
From a few days ago i can?t start the laptop anymore. It doesn?t look like a software issue because when i push the power button, the only thing that happens is the power led turns on (blue color) and, 2 seconds later, starts to blink orange. And never passes this stage.
The screen remains as off, and i think, the BIOS does not start as well.
I?ve already tried to remove the Ram and the hard drive - Keeps doing the same. Doesn?t even bleeps over the missing Ram or drive!!!
Anyone have any ideia about what?s going on??!! Please anwser!

Hello at all

At first i want to excuse if my english is not so well and maybe a little bit wrong.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200-1UM since Cristmas 2007 and until now I never got any big problems with it but now I got a huge one.
Yesterday when I came back from school I started like always my computer first, to check my emails etc.
At first all was normal the normal screen appeared : "Toshiba Leading inovations",after the screen with the blinking underscore, but after that.. a progress bar appeared with the text about it : "Windows is loading files"
I thought: hm k let him load his files...

Okay after loading all seemed to be okay the next screen came: (C) Microsoft Corp. with the moving green bar on it, normal too...
But then after, it just became black.. nothing happened anymore ..
I waited.. and waited.. and waited, but nothing happened..
Then I restarted, maybe it would work now, but it happened still the same same loading screen and so on ... and it became black again ..
Then I tried to start it in Save mode (I pressed F5 at the 2nd loading screen)
I tried all diffrent options of Save mode, but it always stopeped at drivers\disk.sys ... I got like crazy ... I tried out the diffrent options at F5: start at last normal version, and so on, but it all stoped at any time... and nothing happened than anymore..

Than I had enough I put out my product discovery and wanted to format all.. At the first screen I presses F12 and than I went ... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200-1UM - No start and not formatting possible

Hi xanbur

That?s really strange and I can understand you and that you are down with your nerves. Such thins always happen if you need the notebook immediately. :(

However, I?m not sure but for me it sounds like that your HDD is faulty.
Do you have a Microsoft Windows disk? If yes, please try to install Windows from this disk.

If it doesn?t work I?m pretty sure that your HDD is faulty but you can check this with a HDD diagnostic tool. Therefore you can use Drive Fitness Test. It?s easy to use and you can make a bootable disk. From this disk you can boot and start the test.

I had a similar issue last year on my notebook. I can?t start the OS or format it using the Toshiba recovery disk. I tried the Drive Fitness Test and it told me that I should exchange the HDD. After this the notebook worked again.

Good luck! :)

When I turn the power on all the right front panel lights are on and I can hear the fan and something loading, but afterwards I get two beeping sounds and nothing ever displays. No BIOS, no boot menu, no Toshiba splash, nothing. I read in the support FAQ about holding backspace or taking the battery out but it hasn't helped.

I have had this for 3 years now and use it quite often, I'm guessing the motherboard has finally just faulted but I want to be more sure. If I have to get repaired might there possibly be a way I could back up the data on it?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A200 - Does not start up, no display

Hi asoberirishman

If you have already checked the Toshiba FAQ and followed the instructions there, there is nothing more that you can do. What you can do is connecting an external monitor to your notebook, maybe it?s only an internal display malfunction.

But usually in such cases it?s a mainboard or CPU issue. You should ask a notebook technician for help or with other words to check the hardware. The guys have access to all diagnostic tools from Toshiba.

Good luck! :)

I've got a Satellite A200 that I?ve had for almost 18 mths. I recently installed some burning software and as soon as it was finished a blue screen was displayed telling me the computer had been shut down to prevent damage.

It then automatically restarts and I try to log in, but after about 15 seconds it goes to the same blue screen and restarts again. I?ve tried starting it up in safe mode but that doesn?t help.

I?m not really that computer-competent so I?m not sure how to proceed.

If you?ve got any tips id really appreciate it.

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 - Start only with BSOD

I think if you can?t also start in safe mode you must reinstall Windows. It?s strange if your computer shows only BSOD?s after installing burning software but however, I think there is no other way.
What burning software did you install?
Maybe it?s a virus and not a problem of the burning software.

So use the recovery disk and reinstall Windows. The HDD will completely format so backup your data first if you can put the HDD in an external case.

I have a Satellite A200-1KB (several years old). Suddenly, from one day to the next, it refuses to power up. There are 5 blue lights at the front bottom, of which the power lights shows on, the start light shows on, the battery light showson, the next lightight flickers and then dies, and the last for internet access, of course, does not light. Moreover, on the right of the machine, there is a yellow/orange light at the DVD port showing on, when I press the start button, but the port does not open, so I do not know if there is a disc inside.

Can anyone help?

Many thanks in advance.

Can you see anything on the screen after switching notebook on or not?
If you want to see if there is disc inside you can open optical disc drive manually. Normally there is a tiny hole underneath the disc tray. You can insert a paperclip or something similar into this hole and manually open the disc tray.

Hello there !

My Toshiba Satellite Pro A200-1KW don't want to start up fully! Last evening is turned off suddenly (I got it since 2007 and I haven't got any problem). I wanted to reboot it immediately, then it remains stuck on a black screen with grey flashing dash on the top left corner.
I've got windows XP.

Just before it turned off suddenly, the image of JAVA JRE appears on the screen, and few seconds later it turned off. Restored the system with the CD provided by Toshiba with the purchase, but nothing!

Please help me!

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 - Enable to start it

What does it mean exactly?
Do you have after recovery installation the same problem as before (black screen with blinking cursor)?

Fact is if after recovery installation the computer doesn?t work properly it?s hardware malfunction and you need professional help from an authorized service provider.
The Toshiba recovery disk can restore the original out of box settings they are pretested by Toshiba so it?s no software issue?

My Satellite A200-1BJ doesnt start. After switching button on it starts only for 1 or 2 seconds (LED blinking, HDD working, fan working, display blank) and then it automatically switches off. Once it happened before several days but I had not time to solve it and during next days it did not occur. Now I tried to start it more than twenty times and it still doesnt start.

I tried it only with full battery and also only with power adapter. I removed HDD, RAMs, keyboard, DVD, speakers, display and some other connector under the keyboard and it still doesnt start and everytime after 1-2 seconds it goes off.

In previous months it sometimes went off because of overheating during working so I cleaned it from dust inside.

Any problem with motherboard or power?

Thanks for help.

Answer:Satellite A200-1BJ doesnt start

Hmmm...on this virtual way it is not easy to say what the problem is. described behaviour is the same as in case when the BIOS is screwed up after failed BIOS update installation.

Of course it is ?mainboard problem? but what exactly, it is not easy to say. For me it sounds like defective BIOS.

Have you installed some updates or anything that can be responsible for this?

I am sure this has got progressivel worse over the months? I've removed nearly all the files out of startup but to no avail.

Answer:Satellite A200-1N needs 10 minutes to start up

Did you install new OS on the HDD???
What SATA option did you choose in BIOS: AHCI or compatible mode?

Usually the compatible mode would slow down the HDD performance and the unit would need longer to boot.

Hi Everybody, Hope You Can Help Me !

I Can't Start My Webcam On My Laptop .. I Don't Know What Is The Problem Exactly

I Downloaded The Driver From here

But It Still Doesn't Work .. Even If I Open The Msn Messenger, The Webcam Button Doesn't Shows up

& This Is My Laptop Model: Toshiba Satellite A200-1M5 PSAE0E

Wish You Can Help Me

Answer:Cannot start Webcam on Satellite A200-1M5

How did you try to install it?
Did you remove the old webcam driver?

I would recommend firstly removing the old software, and then rebooting the notebook.
Then you should use a freeware tool called ?CCleaner?.
Run this tool, clean the registry and the system and then install the new software.

Good luck

My Toshiba Equium A200-1VO wont load up onto Windows fully, which means I cannot use it. When you turn it on everything is fine up to the welcome screen in Windows Vista. From here it starts to make weird crackling noises and it beeps occasionally. It wont start up from here and these noises don't stop.

Help please

Answer:Equium A200-1VO wont start and makes weird noises

Very strange but this crackling noised could be caused of the HDD.
Have you checked the HDD? For this you can use Drive Fitness Test for example:
Download the CD image, burn it on a CD and boot from it. Then you can the HDD.
On the same website is a user guide if you want to know more.

What OS do you use?
Can you boot in safe mode?

The laptop is 17 months old.

Answer:Satellite A200 will not start, no lights whatsover

hi fooddude35,
the unit died "overnight"?.... strange

take out battery, attach ac-adapter and try to boot!
just in this order, to make sure that the system has definitly no power for a short time!

if it boots up check battery pack
if "no boot" is current - there is a big problem...

as you said that there no led lit it maybe a bigger problem...
ask a servicepartner for assistance - if the warranty is still valid it will be cost free...

I am trying to restore my Toshiba laptop Satellite A200-28P (Windows Vista Home) using the product recovery disk supplied with the laptop, no matter what I try to do I cannot get it to run, the only thing it will allow me to do is restore the laptop to an earlier date. I have full admin rights on the laptop, there are no virus's or any other malware on it, all this seems to have happened since it updated with windows vista about two days ago, have uninstalled the updates but that had no effect.

I cannot find the recovery console any where on the laptop yet I know it was there before. I have tried many of the solutions found on the web but none of them work. I did use the recovery disc about 2 1/2 years ago when the laptop crashed and it worked fine then.

Any help apprecited

Answer:Cannot start recovery installation on my Satellite A200-28P

I cannot remember anymore how it was with A200.
Have you got recovery DVD only or you were also able to start HDD recovery installation using F8 at start up (Advanced boot options > Repair my computer)?

Anyway, your problem description confuses me.
If you use recovery DVD as bootable disc there is no repair console or some options.
When recovery installation starts you can just see menu where you must click on next.
Please check my lats posting on

Can you see the same when notebook starts to read recovery disc?

I read several times that I can install 4gb ram in this laptop (2 2gb) but it only works with 2gb.

I bought it here: c.htm&SNO=00000886

I know that the Toshiba website says it would only accept max. 2gb.
Both 2gb ram work, I tested both of them seperate. Also 2gb plus 512MB won't work. So is it true that it only accepts 2gb? I run Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Thanks a lot for your help! I'm almost about to send the other 2gb ram back, but I would really like to make it work! ;-)

Answer:Satellite A200-1CC doesn't start after 4GB RAM upgrade

This model has a Pentium DualCore T2080 CPU, which is limited to 2GB max RAM. The models with a Core2Duo (T7xxx series) usually support 4GB or RAM.

So the optimal solution would be to use 2 x 1GB RAM Modules.

You may have luck getting one 2GB module working with a 1GB module in the second slot, but its not recommended and may be unstable or cause other problems.

Installing Vista 64bit wont help. Its a limitation of the CPU/Chipset.

Hey guys!
I'm hoping that someone can help me.

Every time I turn my laptop on (I have Satellite A200-23Q) when my desktop appears at some point it pauses and I get the "cfixer" window popped out saying that it can not find that cfixer file, and there is also a date when the file is deleted (it's always the todays date, the date when I'm turning my computer on). On the bottom I have options to cancel, retry or restore. When that happened for the first time I clicked restore, but it happened again the next time I was booting up so I assumed that it's a virus so since then I always click on cancel. But it's going on for 3 or 4 months now, and it reallly annoys me. When I get rid of that window the booting continues, loads the side bar, bluetooth and some other programs.

Please help! Is there any way to sort this out without reinstalling the OS?

Thank you in advance!

Try to reinstall ConfigFree utility.
You can download it from Toshiba download page under

I hope someone can help.

My laptop would not boot this morning, so I hit CTRL-ALT-DEL to restart, I got the splash screen telling me to push F2 or F12, let it go and the laptop stopped at a black screen with a flashing cursor in the top left corner.
I had done a backup two days ago, so decided it was time to do a factory restore and clean up the disk.
I shut it down, then pushed the 0 (zero) key and tapped the power button, as per the instructions. When it beeped, I let go of the button adn it now said:
A disk read error ocurred
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

And at the bottom is:

I got this Satellite A200 PSAF0A-04X019 from a family member, who didn't create recovery disks when setting the laptop up.

Can I do anything to access the recovery partition and run a file manually, or is its beyond repair??

Answer:How to start recovery installation on Satellite A200?

If you cannot start HDD recovery installation on ?regular way? there is no other chance to have access to recovery image.
To be honest I don?t know what this error means exactly. I don?t know if there is some problem with HDD or recovery image.

What you can do now is to install own OS and later download all drivers, tools and utilities alone or try to contact Toshiba service provider and ask if they can order one recovery DVD for you.

Hmm? I would say that your power button doesn?t work.
Maybe the power switch is faulty or there is a loose contact between the button and the motherboard? maybe it?s a mechanical malfunction.

Therefore I would say; YES. You should contact the technical support in your country.

i have a Sat A200 woo.
The problem started when my laptop froze when i was downloading something and i turned it off using the power button.
But now when i turn it on it comes up with this pre boot execution environment (pxe) and keeps saying the media is missing and to check the cable?

Can anyone tell me how to fix it

Answer:Satellite A200 won't start up - PXE error message

You mean this message??

+PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable+
+PXE-M0F: Exiting Intel Boot Agent.+

This means that the OS could not be found? possibly the HDD has died or the OS was not installed properly.

I recommend checking firstly if the HDD appears in BIOS. If not then you should replace the HDD and should install the OS again.

Any idea why?

Answer:Slow start - Satellite A200-1KZ PSAE3

Generally the booting speed depends on the amount of the applications and background processes which must be loaded at the beginning!

The booting on my notebook takes about 1min but I have installed an Antivirus application and an additional firewall.

Anyway, according to your description you don?t use the Toshiba preinstalled OS but your own one.
You should check how long the booting procedure takes with the preinstalled Toshiba image.

But we should not exclude the hardware malfunction!
Possibly there could be something wrong with the HDD.

A200 PSAF6A-02C01N Vista recovery inbuilt into HDD

My friend was using this PC and it just shut down with no warnings.
Vista now will not start.. turn it on and it starts to load then apparently hangs on a blank black screen just before the Welcome screen.

I tried using Linux to access the drive to get his stuff out before reinstalling, but several different Linux versions cannot mount Windows.

I tried running system recovery by holding down 0 while starting, then releasing 0 when the pc started beeping.
Starts loading the recovery, then screen goes blank for awhile, then comes up .. error.. error code F3-F000-0001.. press ok to restart.
Press ok, error screen goes.. screen goes blank.. hard drive light shows hard drive is working.. but it doesnt shut down.

Tried running a Vista disc to reformat. Boots into the disc, loads files, then hangs, just like the original problem , on a blank screen.

Tried running XP disc.. works well until it gets to the part where you choose where you want to install .. and says.. cant install on this pc there is no hard drive!!

Tried formatting disc with Gnome Partition Editor.. it hangs while examining the disc.

I'm thinking next thing to try is to throw the thing off a tall building and see if it can fly..

anyone got any ideas?

Having problems with my Satellite A200, which is approx 2yrs old. 2 days ago it beeped once. I

continued working then shut down with no problems. I restarted again and had no issues. Then, as of yesterday it will not go past the Microsoft logo at start up. After waiting a while there is a clicking coming from it. Roughly the same thing happened to me last year with the same laptop. Starting from scratch and reinstalling the OS solved the problem (until now).

Obviously I can do this again but I want to know if this is a known issue with this type of laptop or is it something I am unwittingly doing?

After hard-living with originally installed Windows Vista for 4 years, I decided to move forward to Win7 operating system...

So, I formatted the C: partition and installed Windows 7 Ultimate...
For about a week everything went like a charm, but after searching through some ''crack'' sites - without installing before any antivirus suite *StUpiD GuY* - , system freezed up...
I turned it off by continuous pressing the upper right button and I restarted it the same way...
The system freezed up just after passed the BIOS testing...

I left it for some minutes -assuming overheat issues-, and after that it turned on normally loading Win7...
After approx. 5-6 minutes it freezed up again...
So, until now I've tried some things to make a conclusion...

I've tried a bootable Linux CD, and after some minutes the system freezes...(concl: not a virus issue...)
If I try to reboot instantly it doesn't even pass the BIOS...(concl: overheating?)
When I try a ''cold'' start up, everything goes OK for 5-7 or maximum 10minutes...
In that short time I managed to install a temperature monitoring program, which shows very normal temperatures until freezing again...

Ignoring that fact, I disassembled the whole laptop very carefully, I cleaned up the fun-heatsink assembly and I replaced the thermal conductive paste from the processor...

Problem persisted...

Another fact that I realized, is that ''Total Commander'' which I had installed just before the problem appeared, now is... Read more

In such situation first step should be clean OS installation.

If yes there must be some problem with hardware. I cannot say for sure what it can be but test HDD and memory at first.

How and from whare I can obtain this.

Answer:Satellite A200: password appears at the start-up

Hm, it seems that is a BIOS related issue. In this case, please go first to the drivers download site and download the newest BIOS for your machine. If the password does not change even after you performed the BIOS update then go to the store where you bought the machine and tell them that your machine has a BIOS password since you bought it.

It think they should handle your problem in your interests.

Have never defragged my hard drive so downloaded Piriform Defraggler 2.00.230

Ran the program and left the computer.

I have tried to restart the computer but can only get past the microsoft green loading bar and then stops at a black screen with only the cursor, at this point have to turn off as nothing else can be done.

Laptop starts fine in safe mode.

I uninstalled the Piriform Defraggler program thinking this may be the problem.

Answer:Preinstaled Vista doesn't start on my Satellite A200

I don?t want to speculate what the problem can be but fact is that preinstalled Vista is screwed up.
There is no guarantee that you will be able to get it work again.

In my opinion best option for you is to install Vista again using Toshiba recovery disc.
Before you do this, start OS in safe mode and back up all your important data.

Yesterday my laptop had a couple of errors and tried to shut down.
It stayed on the shut down screen for quite a long time so I decided to press the power button down until it switched off.

When I went to switch it back on it started going through the normal screens, the Toshiba screen and then the blank screen with the Microsoft indicator at the bottom. At this point the screen goes totally black and stays that way.

Guys I need help...

I download the Karspersky antivirus 2009 and I install it on my Toshiba Satellite A200-gs1 psaece
It was recognized the cec_main.exe as virus and block it...
I put it in the exclusion list, it continues not works, and when I was starting my laptop it was saying "cant execute cec_main.exe...".

I remove the program and install it again I?ve put it again to the exclusion list.
Now it is saying turn on your camera when I?m running the program of my cam.
I don?t know what else I must do...

Answer:Satellite A200 - after Karspersky installation cannot start cam software

Here is the cure:
Probably a good idea to go to Toshiba and download to your desktop the latest software for the camera. Do not open this software yet. Go to control panel and remove the existing Camera Assistant software. Next open the Kaspersky software and click on settings, click on threats and exclusions under the Option tab. Click on trusted zone. Click on Trusted Applications. If CEC_MAIN.exe is there, remove it. Restart the computer.
Might be a good idea to remove your internet cable because we are going to right click on the Kaspersky shortcut and click on PAUSE PROTECTION. This is a must!!! Probably best to set it for a 10 minute pause. Close this menu, and then re-open Kaspersky. Go to Settings > Threats & Exclusions > Trusted Zones > Objects > Add+ > and then manually type in or copy and paste the following exactly as stated below::

C:\Program Files\Camera Assistant Software for Toshiba\CEC_MAIN.exe

to the exclusion rules, to allow CEC_Main.exe to be a trusted application. Then reinstall the camera assistant software. Kaspersky should still be in the pause mode, but will let you know that CEC_MAIN.exe can be be a virus.
Ignore but look for the option on this same screen that will allow you to add this as a trusted application. This is the key to whole thing....Kaspersky has to be in PAUSE mode during the reinstallation of the software. Once you tell Kaspersky to add this as a trusted application, your installation shou... Hello, I have a few issues with my A200 laptop which is approximatley 3.5 years old.
The most serious problem is that the computor, most recently takes up to 3 attempts to get it to run. or shuts down of it's own accord even when plugged in, this doesn't happen regularly but often enough to be a big pain in the prevurbial, especially when in the middle of an assigment ( yes I frequently back up), the fan appears to be working ok. I'm not sure if there is a driver problem that isn;t showining when I run a diagnostic through toshiba pc diagnostic or device manager or microsoft diagnostic or a direct driver update (which has never been required). my main line of thought is that there is a problem with memory or file extension.
Q1 Can file extension errors cause this problem? how do I solve file extension problems without spending any money- if possible?

When I connect an external display quite often the display driver stops working often reesulting in a complete freeze requiring either the use of task manager or a reset by turning off the computor and rebooting- bad news really.
Q2 how can I remedy this?
I have updated the bios and have all current required updates.
Any pointers, help etc would be greatly apecieated.

Answer:Satellite A200 - start up freeze and display driver stopping

To be honest I don?t know why you think about file extensions? If your notebook shuts down itself it could be an overheating issue. The notebook would shut down to protect the hardware.
Have you ever clean your notebook before? If you have it already for 3.5 years there is a lot of dust in cooling ventilators so use compressed air spray to blow the dust.

Regarding your second question: Have you installed newest display driver from Toshiba driver download page? This is important because the Toshiba display drivers are pretested and designed for this model. So they would work properly and don?t cause any problems.

I hope I could help you a little bit ;)

Maybe you should try FN + F5

But to be honest, it sounds like a display problem.

Actually the problem is that there is a continuous beep sound from an internal speaker during start-up that is when the name TOSHIBA appers at the time of starting and moreover it freezes there right on that screen. But , I somehow kept using my system by pressing F5 or F9 and then letting it start manually in NORMAL MODE.

But, i can't keep doing this all the time. And moreover, this beep sound blows continuously only while starting the system and it goes on hanged up in the same screen until i press either F5 or F9. I kept restoring my system but to no use. Could any one please help me out in this.

Sincerely waiting for the reply.....

Answer:Satellite Pro A200: A continuous beep sound during start up and freezing

To be honest it is very strange issue. Is some external device connected to your notebook?
Have you tried to update BIOS to latest version?

Sorry but I believe in such case there is no much you can do. Maybe BIOS update, clean OS installation. That?s all.
Maybe you should contact nearest service and ask what it can be.

Dear community,
a few months ago my screen stopped working. I took an external display and worked that way. (laptop screen didn't work at all, not even toshiba logo)
All until I once turned on my laptop, closed the lid and then raised it again after 5 seconds (when all the lights turned on), the screen worked normally.
Since then, I figured out that I have to do that procedure each time I'm turning it on, or else way the screen doesn't work at all.

So, I have to close the lid and then reopen it after 5 seconds (not less) every time I turn on my laptop. It works that way for months already.

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 close and then open lid for screen to start working

The FN + F5 key combination switches between the monitors.

Did you use this combination in order to test the display switch?
To be honest I?m not quite sure if this key combination would be helpful because it sounds a little bit like a problem with an display ON/Off switch (sensor).

Usually such switch enables and disables the display backlight if you close the lid?

Therefore I would recommend checking this, but of course this is job is for an notebook technician?

Cannot start up my Toshiba Satellite A200 running Vista.

The following message pops up on the screen: "The file is possibly corrupt. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum".

I have tried the recovery disc, but it does not solve the problem.
The following message appears: Status: =xc0000428 (together with instructions that do not seem to help me at all).

What can I do?

Answer:Satellite A200 cannot start up - file header checksum is possibly corrupt

You mean the new OS installation using the Toshiba recovery disk didn?t help?
Hmmm? in such case it seems like a RAM issue?

I have searched a little bit in net regarding this error and found some info that this could be related to the faulty RAM.

You should try to check if only one RAM module is affected.
Otherwise you will have to replace both modules and then should try to reinstall the OS.

_sometimes_ my sattelite A660-10x (PSAW3E) wont start.
I turn it on, you hear the fan coming up, on screen you see blinking cursor on left top screen, than it sort of jumps more to left and top more into corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while i turn off the laptop.
If i do this 3-5 times eventually it starts. Sometimes it starts on first attempt.

What i tried:
Reinstalling the PC from disc partition with Win7
Taking out HDD into my desktop PC and running CHKDSC with scanning and repairing errors.
Cleaning up the whole PC from dust, fans etc.
Pulling out/in battery/AC
Memory check (RAM)
Processor power management change the minimum processor state from 5% to 100%

I understand PC well but so far have no idea what can cause this. The only thing what comes to mind is that the partition at start of the disc has errors which i cant reach since there is boot partition, original-installation partition, and the rest which is the only one i cant reach with CHKDSC.
What i heard that someone tried is changing the Motherboard battery (the small round one), can it be it?

It doesnt seem to be disc or LCD problem, nor RAM memory.

Answer:Satellite A660-10X sometimes wont start - black screen at start-up

> I turn it on, you hear the fan coming up, on screen you see blinking cursor on left top screen, than it sort of jumps more to left and top more into corner and stops. Nothing happens, after a while i turn off the laptop.

Flashing cursor in the left upper corner is a known sign and could be related to faulty HDD or RAM memory problems.

Memory check could be performed and from my experience such memory checks provide approximately correct results. But even if the memory check would not find any RAM problems, it could be still an RAM related issue.

Of course, I cannot say for sure, if its RAM related issue or maybe its related to another faulty part.
Fact is that such issue is caused by hardware problems and in worst case the motherboard would need to be replaced.

My SP A60 is refusing to start up.

It was working fine when a blue screen came up, with random lines streaming down the screen, matrix style, and then it shut down. When I try to turn it on, the 'In touch with tomorrow' screen comes on, but the images and text are...sort of distorted, pixelated, and I know it is not a flaw with the monitor.
A second or so later, the screen comes up asking me if I want to start in...'Safe Mode' 'Safe Mode with Networking' 'Last Know Configuration..' etc. No matter which option I choose, the screen merely blanks out for a few seconds, then returns to the distorted 'In touch with tomorrow' screen, and it all starts over again.

I have tried removing the battery, but to no avail...I thought that always worked with electronics!
I've got all important files backed up on a USB stick, so solutions that involve loosing the data are fine.

Answer:Satellite Pro A60, keeps returning to start up screen and wont start up

How you know it is not flaw with monitor? Have you tried to test it with external monitor?

Anyway, if you can not start your notebook choosing ?safe mode? the best solution for me is to make ?clean? OS installation. Your important files are backed up and you must not be worried about loosing important info.

I better buy another laptop...

So... I found on Ebay a MB TOSHIBA SAT A200 A205 Motherboard ISKAE LA34 TESTED, model K000054260, refurbished...on 150 dollars...

Now I ask you...
I saw the picture with this MB and it's identically with my MB... now...will I have some problems with my laptop if I buy this MB?
What do you recomend?

Answer:Motherboard for Satellite A200-1CR fits with other A200 models?

I have had this laptop now for just under 2 years and one day I was on it but stupidly fell asleep, it ran out of battery and has not started up again since, when I press the power button the power light comes on and it sounds as if it?s about to start up then nothing happens and the screen remains blank, but the fan comes on every so often if I leave it on.

Can anyone help?

Remove the battery and leave the notebook without power supply for a while.
Later try to start your notebook with AC power supply only (without battery).

On your notebook model you cannot remove battery. It is placed under the bottom cover and it should be removed by authorized personal only.
But your model has ?force shut down hole? that you can also use for notebook reset. How it works you can read on

Please test it. I hope this will help you

Hi Will

For me it looks like the installed OS was muddled up for non apparent reason?
If you are not able to boot in the Windows XP OS and if the repair option doesn?t help to boot in the safe mode I don?t see any other possibility as to boot from the Toshiba recovery CD and to reinstall the operating system again!

But note; the booting from the recovery CD will format the whole HDD and you will lose all files stored on the HDD. ?

This is a drastic procedure but in my eyes it?s the only one which could helps to solve this issue.

Ive had my laptop for a couple of months, but today, i got this fuzzy screen, which led me to believe my display was playing up.

Then, however, after i was forced to turn the laptop off, it decided not to turn on again.

In detail; When the power button is pressed, sometimes the loading screen appears, sometimes not (Which means the display works fine). What happens afterwards confuses me though...

Whatever happens, soon after a click sound OR a beep sound is heard, and the computer turns off alltogther again. Then, for some weird reason, it tries to turn itself on, repeating the same process...

I have no idea what has happened, so any answer would be greatly appreciated...

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1HL wont start-up

Hi Ollie

I don?t think there is something wrong with the display.
In case of display issues, the notebook would power up properly and you should be able to use it in connection with an external monitor.

I guess there are some serious issues with graphic card or motherboard.
From my point of few such part malfunction would prevent the notebook from booting up.

Of course this is just a suggestion.
Is your notebook covered by warranty?
In case it is, you should get in contact with an local service provider in order to check the hardware.

I have several problems with my Satellite M40-149.
When shutting down hangs on a blue screen.

Almost impossible to boot. After some shaking and if its my llucky day, it starts but in most of cases hangs at Toshiba logo "In touch with tomorrow" with the four symbols for hd, cd, floppy and script. I did all tests I could find, there is no virus, the hd is ok (I tried several) and after successfull
start the screen seems ok to me.

I even tried Linux on another with almost the same results, very difficult to boot.
Is there another test I could do (except the Toshiba test)?

Any suggestions about where to look are welcome!

Answer:Satellite M40 wont start

Hi dimlog,

This sounds a little bit strange like a hardware problem. I can?t imagine that this has something to do with the software for example. If the notebook doesn?t start properly and hangs on Toshiba screen (BIOS screen) something is wrong with the hardware.

I?m not a technician but maybe the mainboard is the reason for this. But to make sure that is causing this the notebook should be checked from a notebook technician.

If you can repair it yourself, have also a look on eBay for second hand parts they are cheaper as new parts.

Good luck!

Yesterday my Toshiba Satellite C850D laptop with Windows 8.1 did an update when I turned it on, it took a while and once it got to 100% it said it ran into a problem and needed to restart which it did with no worry. It worked fine all day, didn't miss a beat. Then this morning when I turned it on the normal Toshiba logo popped up but then a greyish coloured screen with a flickering small line in the top left hand corner appeared and it wont load further then that screen.

Every button on the keyboard I press makes a loud beeping sound. I have pressed f2 and f12 as it tells me too under the Toshiba logo to no help. Could this be from the update? Also can someone please try and help me?

Many thanks.

Try to start notebook again and press F8 or F12. Can you enter advanced boot options or boot menu?

My laptop was working fine and I left it for 30 mins.

It went into sleep mode as usual but this time I couldn't get it out of sleep mode, so I tried taking the battery out and following other steps to try and make it work again.

Now when I try and turn it on all I get is a completely blank screen, a flashing light on the edge of the laptop along with the normal power light, and can hear something spinning inside it.

I'm not sure what is spinning inside it but it speeds up then slows down, then speeds up and slows down, and keeps on doing this until I turn it off.

Does anyone know what I have to do to fix this?

Answer:Satellite L750-04K wont start up

> so I tried taking the battery out and following other steps to try and make it work again.

So did you removed the battery and waited some hours (3-5 hours) in order to get the display back?
Try to connect the external monitor and check if the FN + F5 option would help you to switch between the monitors.

> I'm not sure what is spinning inside it but it speeds up then slows down, then speeds up and slows down, and keeps on doing this until I turn it off.

It?s really difficult to say what?s wrong here: possibly you hear the cooling module spinning around.
In worst case the issue might be related to faulty motherboard? but this is just a suggestion?

Hey .

I hope to find someone that can help me.. I've bought ram-memories and tried 4 different memories in my Satellite C55-A-1MW. But every ram card I insert makes the computer unable to start.. it will light up just to shut down again.

Is there some compability issue or anything? I've used 2 different aData Ram extensions car, 1 4gb and 1 2gb . the 4gb card was 1333 mhz and the 2gb card was 1600mhz. and i've tried 2 different corsair cards 4gb 1600mhz.

Is it something that makes it only able to extend the RAM with Toshibas own memories or is the second cardslot for RAM memory broken?

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1MW wont start with new RAM inserted

As I can see you use RAM modules with different specifications. Your problem is definitely RAM compatibility problem and you should use RAM modules with the same specification.
According notebook specification there are 4 memory slots and notebook can handle up to 32GB of RAM.

Compatible RAM modules are:
4GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M4G
8GB DDR3L-1600 - PA5104U-1M8G

Of course you can use modules from other manufacturers but please don't use some cheap products. I can recommend you usage of Kingston memory modules.

I have a Satellite Pro L500 and it has never worked properly since I got it.
Sometimes it starts up but more and more it wont start until I tap it around the keyboard. Is there a known fault in the L500? To me it seems like there is a loose connection or dry joint somewhere and it needs a tap to get the contact to work again.

Apart from that it works OK.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Answer:Satellite Pro L500 wont Start-up until I tap it

I?m wondering you didn't contact your local dealer when you saw there is some problem and try to get new notebook.
I don't know what is wrong there but I can imagine you are right about loose connection. Contact nearest Toshiba service and let them check your notebook.

Notebook has valid warranty and service should take care about it.
Do not touch anything or try to disassemble it on your own. It can cancel valid warranty.

Hi All

I have a sick toshiba Satellite 2410-504 laptop.

When booting up it says:-

"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: <Windows root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please re-install a copy of the above file."

Ive put the Windows CD in the CD drive and I've gone into the BIOS and set the CD-ROM as the first Priority but it fails to boot from CD and just continues (what appears) to boot from the HD.

When I changed the BOIS priority it came up with a

PXE-E61: Media test failure, check cable

So after reading this error message I've check the HD is installed and disabled the net card in the BIOS but still wont boot and reverts to the error message as above.

Any other ideas? Is the HD broke?

Why wont it boot from CD?

I have no idea why this error appears but it would be recommended to reinstall the Windows and to configure the system again.

You should use the HDD recovery option!
For this power up the unit and press F8
Then new menu should appear where you should choose the option ?Repair my Computer?.
After that choose ?HDD Recovery? option which allows you to reinstall the Windows again.
Finish the configuration and test the notebook.

The beep codes means that an error on motherboard has been detected.
The notebook supports Phoenix BIOS.
You can google for Phoenix BIOS beep codes to check what this could mean.
But generally it?s something with hardware? so possibly you will need a new board.

If you made a set of recovery discs for it using the Toshiba utility in Windows when your laptop was working okay (which you should have made when your laptop was new), boot your laptop from the first disc in the recovery set.If you didn't make a set of recovery discs, you should be able to order a set of backup media via this Toshiba web page: aware that using recovery discs/backup media will erase everything that's currently on the hard drive, so I hope you already made backup copies of your files. If you didn't, before using recovery media you should remove the drive and put it in an enclosure. Plug it in to a working computer and copy your files to a pen drive or to DVD/CD media. Then put the hard drive back in your laptop and proceed with recovery using the recovery discs. message edited by phil22

Answer:Differences between Satellite A200-1YO & Satellite A200-244

Hi Duncan,

you cannot always rely on images on websites to dictate your shopping experience, as these websites may not have updated their pages in a while.

My suggestion would be to visit a retail store selling the computer model you are after and view the computers there (After making a note of the computer model number you wish to purchase).

However, for your purposes, A200 (last year's model) had a silver keyboard and the newer models (A300) have a glossy black keyboard.

I hope this helps.
