Accessing the Recovery Partition on a Toshiba Satellite A300 Laptop

Question: Accessing the Recovery Partition on a Toshiba Satellite A300 Laptop

What key strokes do I press to have the Toshiba Satellite A300 start the recovery partition?
On a Gateway PC you had to hold Alt+F10 then hit Esc and Alt+F10 again to access the recovery information on the HD without the CD's.
I don't have access to recovery CD's and I just want the laptop to boot from the recovery partition and restore the Windows Vista 32bit OS.
Your help would be appreciated!

Preferred Solution: Accessing the Recovery Partition on a Toshiba Satellite A300 Laptop

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi ..

my friend has this laptop: Satellite A300-20P.

I'm not sure what he did, but he installed Windows Vista Home Premium 64bit, then 32-bit again. The whole thing messed up.
Anyway, he didnt make a recovery disk for his laptop (damn thing). Now, becasue I have a Toshiba laptop too I know that there is Recovery on the Harddisk on the D partition (not the windows partition). I tried to use "Repair Windows" booting Windows, when I try to restore the whole PC from a backup media it says " No backup media found", now I'm not sure if the recovery sector still available or not, because the Windows cant boot. So is there away to find the recovery media?

If this mission impossible, then I have Windows Vista Ultimate to install and I can download the drivers from the site? The problem is, how I will make recovery media when install the Windows and the drivers ?

Please this is urgent.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300-20P - How to restore from Toshiba recovery?

To be honest I?m confused at the moment because first you wrote about a problem of your friend?s notebook and you wrote something about your own notebook where you try repair Windows.
So I don?t understand what you mean exactly.

But fact is you have two possibilities to restore factory settings:
1)Use the Toshiba HDD recovery option. You can start it if you go in advanced boot menu (F8) and select ?Repair my computer?. Then follow the screen instructions.
The first partition of the HDD will be wiped and you get factory settings back.
2)Use the Toshiba recovery disk. It?s very similar to HDD recovery option but whole HDD will be wiped (all files will be deleted). After this you have factory settings back, too.

So that?s all what you can do to restore the factory settings. If the HDD recovery option not work and you don?t have a recovery disk you have to order a new one from Toshiba directly.

Alternative you can use a Microsoft disk to install Windows and then download and install all drivers and tools from Toshiba website step by step.

I have an A300-1MO.
Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk \?
Or is there like a specific one for my A300-1MO?

I'm like a total noob....
Somebody pls help...!

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1MO - Can I use any Toshiba recovery disk?

No, you cannot use any Recovery disk? you have to use the recovery disk designed for this notebook model.
The point is that recovery disk contains a image. Image is a package which contains OS and Toshiba drivers?
If you would use another recovery disk then the image would be installed with not compatible drivers and this could lead to further problems?

Every new Toshiba notebook provides a Toshiba Recovery Disk creator tool. This tool can create a recovery disk?

i bought my lap last april and after the crash of the system.
I used the recovery disc that i made from the image on the hard disc but it erased all the data in the two partitions.

My question: Is there a way to use the disc to format partition C only without erasing the data on the other partition?

Answer:Toshiba recovery disc usage for Satellite A300-211

No. the recovery disk will format the whole HDD and will erase everything from the HDD and partition.
The usage of the HDD recovery procedure will format only the C and will leave the data on the data partition.

I have just created my two recovery DVDs for my new computer and I want to know if I still need my 113GB partition on my computer?

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-27H? Do I need HDD Recovery partition after creating DVD

The Recovery disk would set the notebook back to factory settings? this means that the Recovery disk would format the whole HDD and would create the same partitions like at the first day of purchase? it should create also the HDD recovery partition too?

Therefore in my opinion you could delete it if you don?t want to have such partition on your HDD?

I have satellite A300 with pre loaded Vista home premium OS, due to some reason I had to format the entire disk and I lost my OS recovery partition.

Can any one help me in getting my os partition?
I had checked with the service centers they said I can use the OS recovery partition of similar model.

So I request everyone if anyone can provide me the OS partition, I would be thankful to them.

Please contact me at [email protected]

Answer:Satellite A300 - I lost the recovery partition

I think you did understand something wrong.
On the Toshiba notebooks there is no recovery partition, they have a HDDrecovery folder that contains the factory settings.
I recovery partition that you mean is a Window Vista feature, not a Toshiba.
Here is a useful link to this:

The HDD recovery folder is stored on the second partition of the notebook. You can use the HDD recovery function if you go in the advanced boot menu, choose ?Repair my computer? and select the Toshiba HDD recovery function.
But I think this is too late now?

Did you burn the Toshiba recovery disk? Normally you can burn the factory image that is stored in the HDD recovery folder on a DVD by using the Toshiba recovery disk creator. Therefore you get always a remember message or popup that you have to do this.

If you didn?t do this and you want the Toshiba recovery disk you must order a new one. You can do this here:

I hope I could help you. Do you have more questions?

Answer:Cannot start Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator on my Satellite A300-15K

Did you change anything on your notebook?
I mean if your HDD recovery partition has been changed or the data o thin partition has been deleted?

To be honest for me it looks like the OS issue. I think it?s not a single tool issue but I think the operating system has been muddled up?

Maybe you should try to recover the notebook using the Toshiba HDD recovery option and after the new OS installation on the notebook you could try to create the recovery disk again.

In order to start the recovery you have to press the F8 immediately after the notebook has been powered up. Then you should choose the first option called ?Repair My Computer?.
This would lead to a new window and there you could choose ?Toshiba HDD recovery?.

But note; this recovery would format the whole HDD? so maybe you should backup some data before you would start this procedure.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - deleted HDD recovery partition but have ghost backup

From my knowledge it?s not possible to create it again without a usage of Toshiba recovery disk? As far as I know this partitions contains also some marks which are necessary to boot from this partition.

> Or make a recovery disc from the files? -
I have the recovery-disc-creator program if its possible to still use?
Usually this Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool needs the HDD partition in order to create the Recovery Disk. But I doubt it will functions if you have already deleted this partition.
But nevertheless you could check it.
Create the partition (Vista disk management), copy this files on this partition and check if the this Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator tool would find this.

If not then I don?t believe that you could create such HDD partition?

In such case you will have to buy a Toshiba Recovery disk

I am trying to reconfigure the partition sizes of the windows and recovery partitions as I don't like the idea of having the drive poit 50/50.

I therefore want to reduce it so that only the recovery data will fit on the D drive and my main partition will be a lot bigger. ie C: = 240GB+ and the recovery drive (D:) will only be 5GB (Big enough for the recovery data only.)

I posted this thread here a couple of day ago.

This and searching these forums has gotten me to the point where I think I need to use the recovery DVD in "EXPERT" mode. This should allow me to set the partitions manually rather than automatically right down the middle!

I have noticed that the screen which asks me what to install has a SETTINGS option which is always greyed out.

Does anyone know how to open the SETTINGS screen or if there is another way to manually create the partitions?

Thanks for any replies.

Answer:Satellite A300 1J1 - Recovery "Expert" Mode to change partition size

I have already answered the other thread (see link in your posting)

The point is that you cannot resize the partitions using the Toshiba Vista Recovery DVD.

The mentioned ?Expert mode? is not available in Vista recovery DVD.
The expert mode was a part of the Win XP recovery CD.

However, fact is that the Vista Recovery DVD sets the notebook to the factory settings and also the partition sizes.

The partitions sizes can be changed in Vista Disk Management!

Answer:Satellite A300: Does TRDC Reminder & Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator work after Win 7 upgrade?

Hello Igor

In my opinion you should create recovery disc before you upgrade it to Win7. I have done the same.
Later if something goes wrong you can use your discs and install Vista again using created recovery discs.

I don't understand why you want to wait and create these discs after upgrade. This recovery disc creator doesn?t create recovery image of current state but always the same recovery image you got with your notebook.

Tempro should work in Win7 too.

My laptop is Satellite C55-A-1K6

In the past, i have deleted Toshiba System Recovery Partition by mistake when i install new OS to my laptop then i sent my laptop to Toshiba Service and they recrate standard partitions and send my laptop to me back.

I need to ask that question to you now;

When i open Disk Management in Computer Administration i see two partition that named Recovery. One of them is at the begining of the disk and it is 1 GB, other one is 11 GB and at the and of the disk. Which one is for Toshiba System Recovery?

On the other hand i have just created 3*4,5 GB Toshiba System Recovery DVD via Toshiba Recovery Media Creator . Instead of i have those dvds am i still need Recovery Partition to Recovery my laptop in the future?

Now, if i delete all partitions on the hdd now, can i still use Toshiba Recovery with these 3*4,5 GB DVD?

Answer:Satellite C55-A-1K6 - Which Partition is Important for Toshiba Recovery?

Original recovery image contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba specific tools and utilities, and of course some additional software so it cannot be 1GB only. 11GB partition is for recovery image.

> On the other hand i have just created 3*4,5 GB Toshiba System Recovery DVD via Toshiba >Recovery Media Creator . Instead of i have those dvds am i still need Recovery Partition to Recovery >my laptop in the future?
Generally speaking you don't need it anymore. Using your created recovery DVD you will be able to install original recovery image anytime you want. In case that HDD will be effective and exchanged with new one you can use these discs to install original recovery image.

Many people don't read user?s manuals and do not create recovery media. After some experiments they are surprised why HDD recovery image installation doesn't work anymore.

I hope some other Toshiba notebook owners will read this so here is original info from Toshiba recovery reminder:

I recommend you to use TDK or Verbatim medias. I have tested both of them and they work for sure.

I have a laptop that Toshiba Satellite C55A-1K6.

In the past i deleted Toshiba Recovery Partition by mistake and now i wanna ask the thing cause of that...

When i go to Disk Management in Windows 8 (that preinstalled by Toshiba on my laptop) i see four partitions...

The first partition is nearly 1 GB and i think its needed by Windows 8, then i see C and D for my Windows 8 and at the end there is a partition that is 11 Gb and it is hidden and it is not shown in My computer of Windows...

I have just created 3 * 4.5 GB Recovery DVD Set via Toshiba Rescue Media Creator and now if i delete all partitions on the hdd, can i use these DVD Medias to restore my laptop to its first state when i bought it or i still need Recovery Partition on the HDD instead of using Recovery DVd Medias?

If i delete all partitions on the hdd now, are these DVD Medias are enough to go back to first state standalone or not?

Sorry for my bad English and i hope describe the things in my head... :)

Answer:Satellite C55A-1K6 - Which partition is needed by Toshiba's System Recovery?

>in the past i deleted Toshiba Recovery Partition by mistake
This was really bad move since the recovery partition is necessary in order to create recovery disk or to recover the notebook using HDD recovery option.

>The first partition is nearly 1 GB and i think its needed by Windows 8,
That?s right.

> then i see C and D for my Windows 8
That?s right

> and at the end there is a partition that is 11 Gb and it is hidden and it is not shown in My computer of Windows.
This looks like the recovery partition. But I don?t understand why you said above that you have deleted the Toshiba recovery partition. Could you please clarify this statement?

>I have just created 3 * 4.5 GB Recovery DVD Set via Toshiba Rescue Media Creator and now if i delete all partitions on the hdd, can i use these DVD Medias to restore my laptop to its first state

The Recovery DVD set would format the HDD and would recreate all partitions once again.
The answer is: Yes, this will restore the notebook back to the state like at the first day of purchase.

By the way: i found other thread you created about the same theme:

I've got an old Toshiba Satellite P750 (PSAY1A-01Y022). I have just upgraded my memory from 4GB to 8GB, and am planning to upgrade my HDD from 500GB to 1TB. I have ordered the HDD online and am waiting for it to arrive.

I am still trying to figure out how to create the Toshiba Recovery Partition when my new HDD arrives. I am doing the same for an old notebook, which I have manged to get something similar to it's original factory state.

I have looked at the recovery partition but cannot figure out how it was created. It is not NTFS. Does anyone have any experience in creating a Toshiba Recovery Partition on a new HDD?

And help is much appreciated.

Thank you and kind regards,

Answer:Satellite P750 PSAY1A: how to create the Toshiba Recovery partition on new HDD

Recovery partition can be created when you use original Toshiba recovery disc and install recovery image. Before OS installation starts partitions will be created automatically, recovery image copied on recovery partition and then as last step recovery image installation will start.

Some kind of files migration from one to other HDD is not solution.

Only notebook with ?factory settings? will have well working and usable recovery partition.

For a few weeks now I have not been able to view pictures in full on websites - they just don't download fully or don't down load at all.

I also am having lots of issues with both IE & Mozilla Firefox, when I try to access websites & click to enter further into the websites I consistently get errors & the page won't load until I Ctrl F5 lots of times.

You would not believe how many times I had to do this to just register on this forum & get to this stage.
Its like any site that has multiple pages or lots of info to download is just too much for both programs?

An error shows down the bottom of IE : res://ieframe.dll/dnerror.htm when this happens, if this helps.

I have checked memory etc, all is fine.

Hi there this is my first post would like to say hi. I have 7 installed on my desktop and Im loving it so far. I wish it were the same for my laptop though..

Its a Toshiba A300 (model PSAG4C-05U01C) it came pre-loaded with vista 64 and did not come with any driver/or refresh cd whatsoever.

I would like to do a clean install of 7, but im not sure if I'll have driver issues with this hardware. I cant seem to find anything specifically for 7, can someone point me to the right direction pls?

Also theres seems to be the odd time ill run into the odd app that only runs on 32bit. Would you guys recommend using a 32bit version? or is it better to stick with 64 w/ this laptop?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300

A quick look at your system specs: I would say it should run Windows 7 just fine. I would go with 64bit that is the wave of the future. Many 32bit older applications will run on Windows 7 x64, however there are some that just don't work.

Installing XP on a SATA drive requires an additional step:

However, Most newer BIOS allow an Alternate method for SATA . . Go into the bios and check the "Sata Operation" setting,

change it to "Raid Autodetect/ATA if it is not already. Now try to install XP ( could be IDE Mode, Compatibility Mode or Legacy Mode - different BIOS use different terms )

some will say IDE instead of ATA)

If there are no such settings you'll need to slipstream the sata drivers on the XP CD, follow the instructions in this guide :

I have downloaded all the applicable programs associated with Windows 7 32-bit, until now all have worked perfectly smooth... However I have searched for the Toshiba Disc creator and have found none in the download page of Toshiba.

This is the link I use: E_RSL_DRIVERS

If someone could help me out in this and redirect me to the download page of Toshiba Disc creator (For Windows 7 32-bit). would be appreciated

Answer:Satellite A300 Toshiba Disc Creator (for Win 7 ?)

The Toshiba Recovery disk Creator is available only in connection with the original Toshiba image.
You cannot download this tool.

My laptop has developed a strange power fault, it will charge the battery while it is off but when you turn it on it seems to run off the battery then power down when the battery goes flat. All the time this is happening the AC power light is on which suggests the power is connected and all is well, the battery light shows it is fully charged until power on when it changes from white to amber.
I am going to buy a new battery as mine is not lasting very long and I need the laptop for work and can't afford to replace it right now. Any suggestions as to why the battery is getting charge but not the laptop itself.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A300 power fault.

There could be a number of reasons. A loose connection, power adapter fault etc.
Try removing the battery from the laptop and see what happens when the mains power supply are then turned back on.
You could also have a look at this link for Toshiba information
Doing a simple internet search, there appears to be a number of Toshiba laptop charging problems mentioned, with some possible solutions.
Failing that, have you tried Toshiba support and customer care?.

I recently bought a Toshiba A300-16c but have been unable to find it on the Toshiba website.

I am trying to look to extend the 1 year warranty and there is an offer on at the moment to extend the Toshiba 1 year warranty on a variety of models but the A300-16c isnt listed and doesnt even exist on this website.

Can anyone help?

Answer:Re: Cannot find Satellite A300-16c on Toshiba website

Satellite A300-16C seems to belongs to the PSAJ4E series?
It?s definitely a Toshiba European model and as far as I?m not mistaken this unit were delivered in Italy?

May I ask you how did you try to register the warranty???

In your case I would recommend visiting the Toshiba European support page: -> Support & Download -> Standard Warranty

Check it out!

Hi all ...

I have this laptop (link) : [Satallite A300-1G5|]
I have some questions regrading the exist utilities:

1. the webcam utility , is there a way to disable it sidebar and just live with its icon tray?

2. Toshiba Notification icon tray , can I get rid of that ?? it doesnt show any notification , but the icon still there , dunno why and its annoys me.

3. what does the TRDCReminder & TRORDCLauncher do ? what are these installed software (on the Add/Remove of the windows) do ?!

4. I dont use the DVD Player , DiscCreator and Ulead of Toshiba, I have better alternatives , can I uninstall them and get'em back when I need? How?

ok, hope that me questions are clear ... have one little GOOD question here ...

*Is there any software that can read the sensors of the laptop and show them to me ? like CPU temperature , GPU Temprature , Fan RPM , HDD Temperature .. a software from Toshiba itself and really can do the job ? 3rd party softwares not helping much in the case of the laptop apparently ...*

*one more thing, when Windows Vista SP2 32-bit Update , recommend a new driver for my wireless, NIC and touchpad .. can I download them or its a bad idea since the windows which find those updates?*

looking forward to hear from u ...

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - Questions about the Toshiba Utilities

I will try to offer some answers. Hopefully it will help you. ;)

1. No. as far as I know this is not possible but if you don't need this application just go to exit and stop it running in the background. You can start it again anytime you want.
2. You can disable this notification in RUN > MSCONFIG > Startup tab. I don't know how the right name is but you will find it there. Just remove check mark in front of it and this will never start again.
3. New notebook models are delivered without recovery DVD and you must make it alone. Toshiba has created small ?reminder? and this reminder should tell you ? Please don't forget to create this recovery DVD. So please do is using "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". This installations media you can use for further Vista installation. I recommend you to use DVD-R media only. TRORDCLauncher is Recovery Disc Creator Launcher . When the recovery DVD is created you can remove both applications from the system.
4. Yes you can remove them from the system. How? Control panel > Programs and Features > there is the list of all preinstalled software. Click on application you want to remove and click on the menu on option ?Uninstall?.

You can download some third part applications like ?Speed Fan?. Please note that thisr part applications are not tested and all info you see there must not be 100% right.

Please don't download driver updates using Microsoft update option.

Hi people,

I have a question concerning the Toshiba Satellite A300-129;
I would like to install Windows XP on it (due to stability problems with Vista) but when I enter the Windows XP setup I get the message that Windows Setup could not find any HDD's installed on this computer, even though the BIOS tells me there is one installed. Do I need a HDD-driver to install Windows XP on this machine?

thanks in advance!

Reformatted hard drive and loaded xp from usb stick as dvd drive would not read windows cd. How do I load drivers as dvd drive still wont read cd and cant connect to internet to download drivers?

Answer:Solved: Toshiba Satellite A300 has no drivers

If you can find the driver for the ethernet controller, and can then get online, the other drivers will be easier to deal with. Toshiba's website is notorious for its uselessness in driver downloads so it's easier to go to the ethernet adapter's Properties in Device Manager and click the Details tab. You should be looking at the Hardware ID which will have four characters showing after VEN for Vendor and another four after DEV for device.

Note those down and go to and input the DEV code into the second of the two input boxes then hit Enter. The VEN code you have will appear in column three so you'll then know who made it and have a link to their site where you can download the right driver.

Hey guys,
I've searched the forums a little to find a solution to my problem.
Having not found anything that seems to be the fix, i'm here - with my first post.

I've been looking at a friends Toshiba Satellite A300, that wont power on.
It was working fine until he purchased a new charger - a universal one.
He took the model number into the shop and was told this charger would do the job.
He told me the tip was hard to get into the charger port, he had to use force.

Since then, it hasn't powered on. He told me the charge lights were coming on, but nothing else.

I have the same model laptop as him, so we tried with my charger, my battery, still nothing.

I've taken the laptop completely apart. Re-seated everything. Still nothing.

What i noticed was that with the battery in, and my charger, when i left it charging for a while and tried to power on, it waited maybe a minute then the fan and power on lights came on for maybe 5 seconds then it died again.

Another thing i've noticed is that when it's charging with the battery in, the quick play lights near the power button work. I can press them without the laptop being on and they turn on/off except the media light, it stays on if turned on.

The only thing i have yet to try is replacing the CMOS battery.

I was wondering if anyone here has any idea what may be the problem here? It seems very odd for this to just start happening. The laptop hasn't been taken apart ... Read more

I have gone into safe mode and attempted to repair, but i don't know if i am doing it right. I suspect that the system is compromised and it may have to be reformated, however i do not have discs, it is a legal copy and somewhere i read most laptops have the back up on the harddrive itself, can anyone help lead me through this? thanks Chris

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW with BIOS 3.5 version. Can I make upgrade it to 1.7 version which i will download from Toshiba site?
Whay i want to do this?
Because I have a lot of problems with this notebook. For example:

1) Slow system loading on Compatibility mode
2) When I will set AHCI mode and install SATA drivers then loading is faster but I have problems with Critical Error

I don't know what to do :/ Maybe I have bad drivers (it is not possible because all drivers are from Toshiba site) or maybe I didn't install some drivers (there are a lot of drivers on Toshiba site, I didn't download and install all of them)

Can someone write the list of drivers which i need to install?

Thanks in advane and have a nice day.

Answer:BIOS Upgrade on Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW

Hello Tralla

As I can see you have already posted one thread with the same question and I am wondering you ask the same again.

You have these ?problems? because you didn?t install WXP properly. If you want to have well preinstalled WXP and use it with full speed use AHCI settings in BIOS and load WXP with all SATA drivers.
After doing this notebook will run fast, you will not have problems and BIOS update must not be done at all.
This theme is discussed very often on this forum and please take a little bit time and check this forum about WXP installation using SATA driver.

Conexant High Definition Audio Filter Agent (What is this program for? Do I really need it in startup?)
Toshiba Power Saver
Toshiba Flash Cards
RAID Event Monitor

So, my friends. Could you give a valuable suggestion whether or not it safe to disable the above startup entries? I want to speed up my laptop to highest possible level.

Those processes are quite important and don't really decrease the performance of the system.

If you want to improve the performance, installing more RAM or upgrading to an SSD Drive and using an efficient Virus Scanner will have the most impact.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1BZ Blank screen after Toshiba logo

Windows may be corrupted. Have you tried booting from a Bootable CD? For example, try the Memtest ISO from

Directly after you see the Toshiba logo, press F8 a few times to access the Windows Boot Menu, and try booting into Safe Mode.

If you can get into safe mode, run CHKDSK C: /F to check for file system errors, then reboot normally.
If that doesnt work, then go back into Safe Boot and restore the PC back to a previous state using System Restore.

Does anyone know the correct order in which they are installed or offer any help?

You have to install the TOSHIBA Common Module
The Common Module software is necessary and should be installed at first.
In my case it worked properly on another Toshiba notebook!

PS: There is a BIOS especially for Win XP
Should use it if you running Win XP

I recently bought a Satellite A300-15A ; model: PSAJ4E;

The laptop has 6 Multimedia keys on the top.
As described in the manual, they are supposed to perform the following funtions (left to right): (i am numbering them for convinience to mention them afterwards)
1. Mute/ LED On/Off Button
2. CD/DVD Button
3.Play/Pause Button
4.Stop Button
5.Previous Button
6.Next Button

Can someone elaborate on all the above buttons.

The only function these peform for me are as folllows;
1st Button only switches the LED off/on but does not perform any mute operation with any application (not even Windows Media Player). Even when it performs the LED off operation; only the 6 keys and the bottom 'SATELLITE' display is off; the other LED's (DC in, Powe. Battery, Disk) are still on......what is the problem and how can i start its mute operation so that i can mute the pc with any application running.

2nd button does nothing but open windows media player. What is it supposed to do exactly?

All the other keys do nothing but work on Windows Media Player. They dont work on any other application; be it VLC or any other. How can I make them work on all the media applications......

Please do elaborate and reply with solutions.

Answer:Satellite A300-15A: How does the Toshiba Control buttons work?

3-6 buttons work well also with other applications , all you have to do is to choose an actual option in Application preferences (not notebook's !).

According to the first two buttons, i got the same problems... I found out that older version of Toshiba software had "Toshiba controls" application in Control panel used to change settings for all of these button.. but now it dissappeared ;< I am already looking for any way of changing 2nd button result :) If i found out any other than changing the registry then i'll let u know here :)

I have quite a weird issue that I haven't encountered before.

When the laptop is turned on, you get the Toshiba splash screen, hitting f2 gets you in to the bios, f12 gets you to the boot menu, both these menus work fine.

However, anything past this just results in a black screen, for example, if I was to choose network boot as the first boot option, or cd-rom, or hdd!

I have tried the following troubleshooting steps

1. Removed HDD/DVD and tried to network boot - nothing
2. Reset BIOS to factory defaults, checked boot items were set correctly
3. Removed ram and fitted known working ram, tried both slots
4. Removed battery and drained the static
5. Attempted recovery of the bios using floppy disk (results in same black screen when trying to boot to it)

No bios updates have been ran previous to this, all the client tried to do was connect the laptop to a projector.

Any Ideas?

Jon Roberts

Answer:Satellite A300 - No activity after Toshiba splash screen

Hi Jon Roberts,

Why you want to update the BIOS?

If nothing works after the Toshiba screen it seems to be a hardware malfunction. You should contact nearest authorized service provider to get professional help. The guys can check the notebook and repair it.
Furthermore on the Toshiba website you can find a list of all ASPs.

Good luck! :)

Answer:toshiba satellite pro A300 bios password reset

1. Welcome to Tech Support Guy
2. If you KNOW the password this is the procedure
If you know the password for the BIOS or UEFI or don't have one set, you can change or remove a password through the UEFI/BIOS settings, Hardware Setup Utility, or TOSHIBA Security Assist Utility.
As explained on the link with the sub links to the appropriate OS
3. The procedure you appear to refer to, irrespective of where you found it is - I would think part of a suggested method when you do NOT know the password.
4. If that is the case, then one of the rules of this site is

Passwords - Please do not ask for assistance with (or ways to bypass) a forgotten or unknown password, personal identification number (PIN) or any other type of access code that may be required on a computer, mobile device or web site. Hi guys,

please do me a favour. i am in Dubai, i bought my Toshiba laptop in Dubai. That is Satellite A300-1G5, Sr.No. 98487056Q.
The problem is: whenever i try to find my laptop in Toshiba help and support web site, it is not detecting my machine.

I have tried Auto detect, putting serial no in the box, both option, but all returns with the same result---- not available in region.

Until I detect my machine I am unable to identify the exact driver and so cannot check for updates.
It is strange that Toshiba laptop is not getting found by Toshiba website.

Can anybody help me?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 is not detected on Toshiba support page

It can happen that system somehow cannot identify notebook model but for drivers download it is just important to know first part of the part number.
So your notebook belongs to PSAG4E series and on Toshiba download page you can define exact notebook model and see which drivers are available.

Have you tried to choose your product manually?

Hi, I'm not the most computer savvy person out there-so I may need extra explaining. I have an Asus ux32a zenbook and basically, I was wanting to reinstall my windows 8 back to the factory settings. Long story short, my recovery image I saved is deleted and I may have started formating my hard drive but am not sure. I try the f9 at startup to access the asus recovery but nothing hapens.

I have a copy of Windows 7 I was going to just install over it but when I go to the advanced set up where it asks where I want to install windows I get a long list of disk paritions that have OS, Data, Restore ect. already on it looks like , which makes me think I can still access windows 8 somewhere on my computer.

The problem is, when I boot my computer without an installation usb, it directly takes me to the bios and nothing else. My question is, is it possible to see if I can access my recovery partition, if there is one, just through bios, since that is my only option when I turn the computer on? Thanks in advance!

Answer:Help accessing Recovery partition?

The problem here is that if by pressing the F9 to access the recovery utility of Asus and it goes no further, it is not longer there.

Your best and easiest solution would be to order the recovery discs from Asus and put it back to factory condition.

Hello Everyone,

I have an Asus laptop. I am running Windows 8.1. I upgraded from 8 to 8.1 via the MS app store. I am having difficulty using the Windows 8 recovery option to do a completely fresh restore back to factory state.

Each time I try to Restore back to factory state, the program starts and a few minutes later I am told my recovery environment partition is missing. I know it is there because Easeus shows it as available as does Windows Disk Management Tool.

I have tried to run Recovery via settings.
I have tried to run Recovery via F9 at startup.

More Background Information:
I did have a linux distro installed which is why I have many partitions as seen in screenshot.
I naively did not make a Recovery USB drive when I got the laptop.

I have attached a picture of Windows Disk Management Tool to show that the Recovery partition is there but with no letter. I am thinking I need to assign it a drive letter but the option isn't available when I right click on the partition. The only option available is, "help."

In the screenshot, the two partitions labeled, New Volume and New Volume2 are old linux partitions.

Any suggestions on how to access my Recovery environment to allow myself to reset back to factory state would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds like the ODD filter in the registry may be invalid. Have a look at this hotfix:

Another thing to try is get a microfiber cloth and gently wipe the optical lens to remove any dust.

If still no good, it may be a hardware problem with the drive itself.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1EB: Toshiba Control buttons & FN keys don't work on Win XP

The Satellite A300-1EB belongs to the PSAG0E series.
So please choose firstly the right notebook series before you will start to download the XP drivers.

After choosing the right notebook model you will have to reinstall the XP drivers.

The Common Module and Hotkey Utility are necessary to get the FN keys working.
The Common Modules must be installed at first.

To get the Multimedia buttons working you will have to install the ?Controls? .
I didn?t find it in the PSAG0E series but in other A300 series like PSAGCE. So check it out!

By the way: SP3 can causes some compatibility issues... so maybe you should remove it firstly!

Hello, I have this problem with Toshiba satellite A300.

I deleted many files and folders from my C and E drives. On restarting the computer, it only shows the Toshiba logo then a blank screen slightly gray on close inspection. Whenever I press the CRL + ALT + DEL keys, the computer restarts and behaves in the same manner.

I have tried using an external monitor but there is no difference. On trying to boot using a CD/DVD, same behaviour happens, it won't boot from it and screen remains blank after the Toshiba logo, I have even tried changing g the boot order but to no avail.

What could be happening?
Thanks in advance.

Answer:Re: satellite A300 screen goes blank after toshiba logo, won't boot from CD/DVD

It looks like you removed system folders and Windows doesn't boot anymore. Have you tried to restore the factory settings from hdd image or recovery disk? Or make Windows copy installation... It's easier to reinstall it rather fixing the problem.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 - blue screen / hardware problem

Wow what a long post? lol.

Try running memtest (burn it to disk and allow it to run at bootup; may need to change your BIOS settings to boot from CD/DVD rom). The error you are getting (BC Code 7f) could spell faulty or failing give this test a try and see if you get any errors after running a few passes.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 here, running on Windows Vista, and it will not see any wireless networks. The wireless adaptor is enabled and I have checked this several times to make sure. It will connect perfectly if connected with an ethernet cable in the RJ-45 port so this has slightly confused me. I'm sure there must be a simple fix. Also there seems to be no problems with the network drivers installed (No yellow exclaimation marks or anything). Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks in advance

i just bought my new Satelite, but now i see that the best tool from the former Satelite line is missing!
POWER SAVER! i'm running vista at the moment, but power saver does not exist so it seems!
I was wondering if that was indeed true, or it just does nog exist in my language!

If it does not exist, i would like to suggest it to Toshiba, to bring it back, but it was a most usefull tool, mutch better then the one that is standard on windows vista!
If anyone has a solution, i would be glad to hear from you ofcourse!

PS i tried installing the version for windows XP witch i downloaded from the Toshiba site, but it does not work on Vista ofcourse!

Answer:Toshiba Power Saver on Satellite A300-PSAGCE with Vista OS

Power saver is installed under Vista too and you can find it under:
Start ? Control Panel ? System & Maintenance ? Power Options > ?Select a Power Plan? ? Change plan settings ? Change advanced power settings ? Toshiba Power Saver Settings

As you can see the settings are not like before under WXP. The fact is that most of settings are now controlled by Vista and Toshiba power saver has no much influence in power settings like before.

I have a Gateway laptop which runs on Windows Vista. It's a normal, average laptop that has the OS on drive C and the recovery partition on D. I had a very nasty accident that basically erased 90% of drive C. I want to reinstall the OS using the recovery partition but I can't access it (I tried F8, F11, Control F11, Alt F11) nothing... now I did insert my XP disk and I did manage to access drive C/D using the console and I saw that D had the recovery files but C was pretty much empty. I formatted C and now I need to find a way on how to access and run the recovery software on D.

Any suggestions?

I own an x230 and it came preloaded with windows 8.  I decided to dual boot ubuntu into the computer but messed with the master boot record to use ubuntu's version of grub.  Then stupid me decided that I didnt want ubuntu, and formatted the ubuntu partition in favor of fedora.  Long story short, I can't access the window's recovery partition and the grub boot loader has been overwritten by a corrupted window's bootloader. So how do I access my recovery partition?  Im thinking of contacting support for a recovery cd of win8 but I heard it can cost up to $59

hi all, sorry to bother you yet again with thinkpad problems...I'm having trouble accessing the recovery partition on the hard-drive.An F11 promt is meant to show in the first two seconds of BOOT. "Press F11 to invoke IBM Recovery" However, if the prompt does not display then you can not invoke the recovery. The hard drive had crashed but eventually i managed to access the saved data from the Windows XP parition by plugging it into my pc.I've tried the IBM recovery prompt recovery disk. However, this thinkpad didn't come with a floppy drive so i borrowed my brothers. The problem there is that it didn't work. He thinks the floppy drive is damaged. I don't know anyone else with a thinkpad. So i'm kinda stuffed there. I can't repair the recovery prompt. Is there any way of getting the stuff off the Recovery parition? BTW: it's not accessible via windows explorer, it's a Hidden Protected Area.details:Thinkpad R31 2656XP HomeThank in advance all.;o)

I have a Satellite A300-21H and using MS vista but will be getting dual boot ubuntu soon.
When i look up my disk size i see C drive is 148GB and then there is an E drive also at 147GB.
The E drive is ntfs ( contains a folder called HDD recovery and text file ) - i assumed this was the recovery disk but it seems rather huge!.

Then i looked into the manula to see the recover should only be 1.5GB and there is a hidden 1.5GB drive on the disk also.
My question is what is the E drive, can i merge it with the C drive? and can i wipe it and still use the 1.5 GB to recover things? and The two back up DVD's i made what are they for?

Thanks in advance:

Answer:Satellite A300-21H - What the hidden partition means?

Hi buddy

The notebook contains 3 partitions;
One partition contains the Vista OS
The second partition contains the HDD recovery folder. This HDD recovery folder is needed for HDD recovery procedure. You can recover the notebook without using the disk. You can boot from the HDD and can start the HDD recovery process.
But it?s strongly recommended to create a recovery disk! This could be helpful if something will go wrong with the preinstalled OS and the HDD recovery.

Last partition (the hidden one) contains the Vista backup files? called WinRE.
This backup files are needed in order to repair the OS in critical situations?
It?s no recommended to remove, delete or merge this partition!

I have model Satellite A300-1MT and I don't know how to get access to hidden partition.

Answer:Satellite A300-1MT - how to get access to hidden partition

Why do you want to access the hidden partition?

Do you know why this hidden partition has been created on the HDD?

This hidden partition is created automatically by Vista and it contains the backup files which are needed in order to repair the OS if something will go wrong.

It?s not advisable to access this partition or to delete it!

my Satellite Pro A300 came with 2 different partitions, and I would like to change the size of the partitions (the data partition is too small).

Would that affect the recovery tools? Are there any suggested approaches?

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 - How can I change the partition size?

Which OS do you use on your notebook?
If you use Vista this document could be useful for you:

Normally this should not affect the HDD recovery but to be sure burn the recovery disk if you didn?t do this as yet.

If you have the recovery disk you are on the safely side.

I have Tosshiba Satellite Pro A300-1GR and recently noticed a file named R08985EF.tag in E:\.
The file's content is "R08985EF" and it's dated 12.7.2008 - the same date as HDD Recovery folder and all its content and has very similar modified-time.

The file isn't read only and has not any protection.
What is it used for and may I delete it without any harmful consequences?.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated!

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1GR - File R08985EF.tag in E:\ partition

I would not recommend deleting this file because this file could belongs to the HDD recovery procedure and if you would delete it then you would be not able to un the HDD recovery procedure

I have purchased a new laptop Satellite A300-1EC.
I was successful in completing the complete setup of the system.

When i check my drive i find only two drives "C" and "E".
Drive C is for operating system and "E" is data disc with one folder HDD1.

Now if i want to save my normal files like in word, excel etc... which is the drive to save my files.

Will saving in "E" effect the functioning of computers.

best regards to all

Answer:Can I save my files on "E" partition of my Satellite A300-1EC

I presume the partition ?E? contains data which is needed to start the Toshiba HDD recover.

I think you could save your files on the ?E? partition too but you shouldn?t change or shouldn?t delete any folders or data which already exist on the ?E? partition.

Hello everyone,

I've just bought a Satellite A300 - 1MC (model no. PSAG8E-00W00TEN) and i'm trying to use the Toshiba Assist software, but its asking me for a password and i have no idea what it is or where i can find it.

Any suggestions?

Also slightly off topic, the laptop has buttons for controlling media player, is there anyway i can change them to control iTunes?

Answer:Satellite A300-1MC PSAG8E - Toshiba Assist software asks for password

Have you tried to make an update of Toshiba Assist? A new version and all other Toshiba stuff you can find here:
Maybe the update will solve the problem.

About the control buttons? I think you must set iTunes as standard media player and select all file with playing iTunes.

Hi Levi

Have you tried to reinstall the Toshiba Value Added Package? This package controls the multimedia keys and also the illumination of these buttons.
Check the Toshiba website for an update!

Furthermore the illumination can be enabled or disabled in BIOS. Make sure that this option is set to enabled.

Last but not least BIOS update is worth a try! ;)

I'm trying to help my friend fix his computer, which was FULL of viruses. I think I managed to delete somewhere around 96. So his Dell Inspiron e1505 laptop, (vista sp2) now boots and works. BUT the viruses wrecked havoc on the OS. All the short cuts on the start menu are gone, the administrative tools are missing, internet settings are messed up, and things like System Restore, Windows Defender, and Windows Firewall are completely gone. I checked, and his laptop has a recovery partition left by Dell to fix windows if there was a problem. Well, there is, and since I can't be 100% every single virus is gone, and windows is so beat up, he decided to have me reinstall Vista for him...

PROBLEM: I can't get into the recovery partition. The method on Dell's website isn't working. I know its there and I'm pretty sure it still has the windows files, but I just can't access it to fix it.

Aside from calling Dell and requesting a disc (which I think would be like $40 or so), is there a way to fix this? Thanks

Answer:Help accessing Dell's Vista recovery partition?

I assume he didn't bother making his own set of Recovery DVDs. Having him order them from Dell is probably best. If you have available or can borrow an installation DVD of the same version (OEM, Home Premium or whatever) you may be able to install that way and use the Product Key that should be on a sticker on the PC.

Hello, Here's the problem from the beginning to now. I've been trying to fix my cousin's laptop because of this problem. I decided to reformat the harddrive by installing windows 7 ultimate using the usb boot method and I did not change/delete the recovery partition. The recovery partition exists and I need help trying to access it so that I can restore the computer to factory settings. I installed R&R on windows 7 ultimate so I can try to use the recovery partition but I haven't been able to use it. I don't have an external cd drive to use recovery cds. How do can I use the recovery partition to restore to factory settings? I tried pressing enter and then F11 to do recovery options but I get an error like Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the case. To fix the problem:1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.2. Choose your language settings, and then click "Next."3. Click "Repair your computer." If you do not have this disc, contact your system adminsitrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.Status: 0xc000000f.Info: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. Any help is appreciated.

Hi, I'm working on a problem for my folks.  My dad got my mom a brand spanking new Helix (not exactly a cheap laptop).   It came with two pieces of malware:1.  Windows 82.  AstroMenda Since I can't do anything about #1 and #2 is a serious PITA and the machine is new out of the box (really), I thought I'd just restore the machine from the recovery partition. However, I cannot seem to get the machine to boot to recovery mode. Enter doesn't seem to do anything (that is the only keystroke suggested by the splash screen). F12 gets me a boot menu but I don't see any recovery options.  Selecting the Windows Boot Manager or the Hard Drive itself results in Windows 8 booting. F1 gets me the BIOS.  Though I imagine I might be able to set the recovery partition (which #?) to the #1 boot option, I absolutely should not have to do that. Shift doesn't do anything (suggested elsewhere on these forums). F2 doesn't do anything. F11 doesn't do anything. Esc doesn't do anything. My older lenovo T61p had the ThinkVantage.  I always thought that was pretty goofy but now I'm wishing I had a ThinkVantage. BTW, Lenovo Support was USELESS.  They told me to return the machine and transferred me to returns but since my folks were on vacation when it arrived, we are outside the 30 day window, returns wouldn't do an exchange.  They opened a case with Customer Advocacy (never heard of that) b... if you downloaded windows 10 installation media from Microsoft on the last week, you can clean install it and use your BIOS embedded windows 8.1 key to authenticate. if not, download the latest version of the windows 10 installation media: to retrieve your product key: you must install windows 10 skipping the product key request steps, once at desktop, press the  windows logo key, click on Updates and security, click on Activation on the left side and follow instructions to change or activate your product key, use your windows 8.1 product key to activate.

I have a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-1OP with Windows Vista.

The hard drive is partitioned into C:\ and E:\, each of around 75GB with a hidden partition for the System Recovery Options. E:/ is showing only about 5MB left free while C:\ shows 28GB. However, the listing of folders/files for E:/ shows a total of around only 10GB. I have set hidden files & folders to be shown in Control Panel/Appearance but no more are listed to explain the "missing" 65GB. I also get a warning window popping up telling me to free up space in E:\ drive.

What is the problem and how do I fix it? I have run Disk Cleanup but get no more free space.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1OP - Missing disk spce on E:\ partition

I am pretty often here on this forum and I am always wondering what kind of problems people have with their notebooks.
If you have created recovery DVD move all files to partition C and start computer management > disk management. Delete volume E (second partition). After doing this create it again and make full format.

It will be interesting to know if the partition will be shown properly after doing this. if yes, move all data back and hope everything will be OK again.
Please note: after doing this it can happen that you will not be able to create recovery DVD or use HDD recovery installation so please do this if you have created DVD.

my A300 has become a bit slow loading up and such. So i want to format the hard drive.
I have made 2 DVD's using Toshiba recovery disc creator. Now what.
Do i do use the two disks that i have just made or do i use the product recovery media disks that came with the system.
Also what about all the drivers and such will they be on the disks i created or do i need to search for them and other programs such as my virus programs and such.

Cheers for any help

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - How to run recovery

I assume you didn?t read any topics here in the forum regarding the recovery procedure?
So I recommend doing this because this theme is one of the most asked themes here in the forum!

PS: You need to boot from recovery disk and have to follow the instruction on the screen.
Recover disk will format whole HDD and will set the notebook to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

Did you create a Toshiba recovery disk at the beginning?

I think if you didn?t use the recovery disk then the issue is related to the missing driver or software part?

Hi guys My laptop is a TOSHIBA Equium A300-16C RM-70, and was purchased in Sept '08, it has been used regularly up until July 2010, when it switched off and wouldn't start up again. For about 6 months prior to this, the laptop would often overheat when laying on my bed and switch off. I've had my battery charger lead tested and it works. But it hasn't started up since that date. When I press the power on button, the laptop start up light doesn't turn on.I'm not sure whether it is a simple battery problem or a much more severe problem. Thanks for your help in advance guys

Answer:Problem Laptop will not turn on: Toshiba A300-16C

Try taking the battery out and switching of the power lead. Then hold the on button for 30 seconds then refit the battery and switch on the power lead and see if any difference. If not try with the battery out and just use the power connector.

After breaking my favourite ever laptop I made the mistake of just buying a new one, I then discovered Windows 8 which I hated so I gave that away to my girlfriend so at least I got some brownie points. I then bought a second hand Toshiba satellite Pro L550-19T running Windows 7 which works away fine but it's a bit cumbersome, the sound is rubbish and I just don't like it.
That's the "why" out the way, now I have just bought an old Toshiba A300-1MP which is almost identical to my old one but I would like to boost the performance as much as is reasonably possible. It has the Intel GM45 Express Chipset with an Intel Core 2 Duo T5800 processor, from what I have read the chipset will take up to a T9900 processor. Will it be the BIOS or the chipset that is the limiting factor on a cpu upgrade assuming heating issues are not a factor?
That's my main concern, the old damaged A300 will still boot so I may install in that first to test my eventual choice of cpu other than that I'm planning to max out the memory and install a solid state HDD.
Any advice would be really appreciated, I've been out of the loop so to speak on building and upgrading computers for the past few years and just repairing what's gone wrong.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

Answer:Toshiba Laptop A300-1MP upgrade options.

Barry. The short answer is 'Laptops don't up grade
Hdd's can be swapped for a bigger one' add more more memory perhaps.
But that s it.
Even changing to a SSHD may not be feasable
You risk spending money on unsuitable bits and pieces
Far better to buy a machinecro suit your needs.
Another way to kook at the problem is to change operating/systems
W8 is very heavey for older machines consider looking at Linux Ubuntu or Mint both very Windows like in use'
They can be run from a 'live'CD' to try and it is all FREE to download including software
