Preferred Solution: Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A100 - Windows and BIOS doesn't start after BIOS update

Do you see the Toshiba logo?

Was there a power failure when you updated the BIOS?

Try removing the battery and AC Adapter, and leaving it for a couple of hours. You could also try reseating the RAM.

If that doesn't help, you may need to send it to an Authorized Service Center for repair.

After updating BIOS on a Satellite A100 it gave an error but restarted OK. The following day, the notebook doesn?t switch on. No led is switched on, even the power cable connected. Which is the procedure to follow to restore it?

Juan Carlos

Answer:Satellite A100 doesn´t switch on after BIOS update

Seems not good with the error on BIOS update, but you can try the following:

Take out battery from your notebook and disconnect it from AC adapter. Now, just wait as I would say a minimum of 30 minutes. Then put all together and try to start your machine.

I hope this little trick can do it for you.

Hi all,

I updated the BIOS of my laptop to V6.0 (from Toshiba's site) while under Windows XP and it went well, then the installer wanted to restart the PC.
But at restart, it doesn't go through the boot process. I can't access the boot menu nor anything else by clicking on F2 or F12. But could go to the detailed process by clicking on escape. And there I see the following messages:
Phoenix TrustedCore(TM)
Version.Mak -r1.53
detects [email protected] dual core

No TPM or TPM has problem.
1023M System RAM Passed

And that's it.
I can't get hold of older BIOS versions, and I couldn't find the version of the V6.0 updater which I could put on a CD for another BIOS update.

Anyone has an idea on what's wrong? And if you confirm it's to do with V6.0 and I'd need an older version, please could you send me the necessary setup files to do the update through a CDROM.

Thanks for your help.

Answer:Satellite A100-920 - After BIOS update it doesn't boot

Maybe the BIOS updated failed and now the ROM module isn?t working properly...
You can try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor, then wait 1 hour. After this connect both devices again and try to start the notebook. Maybe it does work.

If not I think you need help from a notebook technician. It seems that the ROM module must be reflashed or something else.

Please, someone tell me what's the problem with the SP4220 BIOS v1.60 update? It doesn't start at all even doing according to the given instructions.

I have been doing the following:
1. downloading/unzipping the v1.60 package from the BIOS page to a non-bootable empty diskette
2. putting the diskette into the machine
3. powering up the machine with pressing the F12 key

With one diskette I did get the "non-system disk" error and with another one "EMBRL missing" error. What's the latter one, I'm not familiar with that one?

Best regards,

Pete V.

May I ask why you want to update the BIOS?
Do you have any problems?
If the notebook runs well the BIOS update is not needed! My notebook is about 6 years old and I did not update the BIOS!

However, I think you didn?t use the right update procedure.
Please check this document before you start the BIOS update:

I'm new in this forum and have the problem, that after an update from the Toshiba homepage with the Phoenix secureCore Tiano my Satelite L555 is asking about a password for starting the BIOS, which I haven't entered and never been asked for. X-(

What can I do to get this machine started again? I've tried to get in with the F2; and the F12 while starting the machine, but it's allways asking my about this password and after 3 "wrong entries" the notebook closes down again and I've to restart it. (with the same results)

Can somebody give my an idea, how I can get my notebook to work normaly? ?:|

I just done update BIOS on my laptop Toshiba P100-286 and since then I can't use it. When pressing the power button the computer doesn't start, the screen is blank (black).

Any ideas how to resolve this issue ?!

Please help.

Answer:Re: Satellite P100-286 doesn't start - black screen after BIOS update

Try this:
- Remove battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
- wait several time about ~30-40min
- connect both parts and try to power up

If this will not help you then you will need to ask the ASP in your country for BIOS refalsh. It looks something went wrong during the update procedure.

On attempting to update my Bios via windows, on unpacking the zipped file my anti virus (f-secure) flashed a warning.

The warning claimed that the file contained a trojan and that it had been deleted to protect my computer.
A microsoft warning also stated that access to these files had been blocked to protect your system.

Is it possible that this update, downloaded from Toshiba really did contain malware or could there be some other reason for this occurrence?

Any help advice would be appreciated

Answer:Satellite Pro A100: Trojan warning message during BIOS windows update

Hi james

Don't get panicky! You BIOS is not affected by any Trojans, Malware or Virus.
Mostly such BIOS files are not known to the AntiVirus applications and therefore the anti virus software reports and notifies a virus.

Before you will start the BIOS update you should disable the virus auto protection!

The CD/DVD drive doesn't appear on the windows manager and I can't incert CD
The BIOS display "none" in the place of "optical device"

Does it mean that the CD device is dead ?

Answer:Satellite A100: CD/DVD drive doesn't appear in device manager and BIOS

Hi Micky,

Unfortunately it probably does :-( . You could try to remove the optical drive and then re-insert it into the notebook, then power on and see if it is recognised as a new device.

Also check that it is not shown in device manager and if it is remove it before trying the above.

I just wanted to upgrade my old Satellite A100-386 with 4gb RAM (2x2Gb Crucial) instead of 1Gb, as I am now under Windows7 Pro 64bits instead of the original XP 32.

I read I had to upgrade the BIOS as mine is v2.00. So, I downloaded the last one.
It seems to be an automatic BIOS upgrade (S10V600.exe) as mentioned on Toshiba Website.
But when hit the .exe, I have an error message box telling me :
"LOADPEDRV.EXE: failed to start the service"

My question is: Do I need to be 32bits OS to run the automatic BIOS upgrade or is ther any way to flash the BIOS with a Windows7 64 bits OS running?

Thank's a lot for any answer as I did not find "how to" in research mode on this furum.

Best regards

Answer:Satellite A100-386 - How to update the BIOS?

Hi FPSim,

Who says that you have to update the BIOS just for RAM upgrade? The maximum RAM capacity is depending on mainboard and chipset and not BIOS.

On official Toshiba website I saw that the model supports 4GB RAM so BIOS update is not necessary. Upgrade the RAM and everything is ok.

Hello Lukas

Unfortunately there is no public document about that but if you check some other topics you will see that latest version fix some graphic problems and it is confirmed that latest version fix this successfully.

I don?t know why your latest BIOS update was unsuccessfully but when you make BIOS update please be sure that there are no external devices connected and very important is that it must be done with AC power supply only and not with battery power supply. Before you start with BIOS update please check Info how to do this.

I ask my self why should Toshiba publish an wrong BIOS ?:|
This makes no sense to me? You can find many people with a A100 Satellite and as far as I know nobody had and update problem with the 5.9-Win BIOS for A100 PSAA8
So I assume you did something wrong?.

However, according to the Toshiba European driver page the 6.0win Bios is available at this time and should work correctly?

But I?ve got an important question; why do you want to update the BIOS?
Is there something wrong with your notebook?
If not, then the BIOS update is not necessary and as you already know a BIOS update is ALWAYS risky ;)

I have just updated my BIOS to version 6.0 as TOSHIBA says >> 26/11/07 "This Bios Update adds increased functionality to your system : Satellite A100 (PSAAN) 6.00-WIN Toshiba.

My original BIOS was 5.9
My computer works fine A100-33 But when my computer restarted it showed the BLACK Screen;

I noticed that it displayed BAD CHECKSUM and suugested I select the default BIOS but I *ignored this advice* as wanted this new BIOS Version.

What does BAD CHECKSUM mean and what effects will this have on my computer peformance please if any?

Under system Info this is displayed for my BIOS Version/Date Phoenix Technologies LTD 6.00, 12/07/2007

OS Name Microsoft??® Windows Vista Home Basic

Answer:Satellite A100 BIOS update - BAD CHECKSUM

don?t worry if the message "bad checksum" only appears once.

"Bad checksum" means that the BIOS was modified, rewritten or the settings were restored to default. So, every time you save your bios settings, the bios makes a "checksum" to verify on the next boot that the settings were kept and everything is alright. If something goes wrong or was modified then the stored checksum from the last save don?t match the actual new generated checksum.

So if you perform a bios update, all your settings will be modified so - logical - you get an "Bad Checksum" error.

Another reason for such "Bad Checksum" is a empty or malfunctioning BIOS battery, so the BIOS cannot keep it?s settings and you will get everytime you boot the machine a "Bad Checksum" message.

I just made a bios update to my Satellite A100 PSAA9, and after that I started to hear some clicks on the hard drive, from time to time. They do not occur very often, but I'd like to know why do they started!

The bios update was released in 26/11/2007.
Does anyone have the same problem??

Answer:HDD clicks after Bios update on Satellite A100

I don?t think that this has something to do with the BIOS update.
I don?t know how old you HDD is but possibly this click are related only to the HDD hardware issue?

Several time ago my HDD created similar clicks and sounds but it?s running great?
I didn?t notice any serious hardware problems? however, we cannot exclude a hardware issue and therefore you should backup the important data to prevent the files from damage.

Theoretically, bad Os. or hardware issue can cause lap restarts. The overheating can also make Cpu and other parts on the mobo the overheat the system and it restarts.

Being kind of tech swavy, i know my chances are very low in fixing this but here goes.

I decided to update the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7(PSAA8C-TA702C) laptop to the latest version available (6.00).

I did this because I've heard of people have better luck in making their FN keys work in linux with the newer BIOS.
The installation finished normally(went through all the steps, wrote all 21 blocks) without any errors but after rebooting I noticed that it now hangs at the Toshiba logo screen.

The blue progress bar moves twice but then gets stuck about 1/3 of the way through.
In order to see how bad the damage was, I pressed esc at the beginning of POST and saw that it gives me the right BIOS Version (6.00).

It also tells me that "No TPM or TPM has problem", and "2039M System RAM Passed."
It then displays the message "Press <F2> to enter SETUP" (which makes the message disappear, but otherwise does nothing.

If i press f2 during the Toshiba logo screen, it replaces the message at the bottom with "Please wait" and nothing happens even after waiting an hour.
(Which makes sense because before the whole blue bar would load before going into the CMOS settings). The thing is that the BIOS doesn't really "freeze", It just gets stuck at one specific place (I know this because i can press F2 even after waiting an hour and the laptop does respond to it by displaying "Please Wait".

Ola amigo

It?s very long story and it sounds not good?

>I decided to update the BIOS on my Toshiba Satellite A100-TA7 (PSAA8C-TA702C) laptop to the latest version available (6.00).
I wonder about your BIOS version? as far as I know the notebook series was designed for Canadian market; it?s a Canadian series and the BIOS or drivers should be downloaded from the Toshiba Canadian website!!!
Wrong BIOS could cause a issues like this one described it your message above!!!

>I did this because I've heard of people have better luck in making their FN keys work in Linux with the newer BIOS.
Toshiba FN buttons need Toshiba driver and fact is that Toshiba driver pages don?t offer the drivers for Linux distributions? so I don?t believe to the story propagated by any people.

I don?t want to write a long story so I would cut this now;
Fact is that something went during the BIOS update procedure.
Either you used a wrong BIOS or wring update procedure and therefore the notebook cannot pass the POST?

You have to contact the local ASP to solve this? maybe you are a lucky guy and the technician has to flash the ROM module again? but in worst case your mobo is damage and needs to be replaced. :(

Good luck

Recived my Windows Vista upgrade from Moduslink yesterday. I followed the book on how to upgrade to Vista and the first step was to upgrade the BIOS to 5.10. The BIOS code was provided on a CD and i applied it by the book. Now my A100 wont start. It´s hangning at the nice red Toshiba -logo in the POST Screen. The only button on the keyboard that is responding is the escape button. When pressed the screen switches to the detailed POST screen. Just under the CPU info it says that there is "No TPM or TPM has problem", then there is memory information and "Press F2 to enter setup"
Nothing more happens....
Is there any smart way of resetting or rollback the BIOS ? please ?

ACPI\TOS1901 *TOS1901 <--- This is the unknown device after BIOS update to 5.10 on my Satellite A100-153 notebook

now vista shows it in device manager as unknown ; the TOS1900 was shown too, but after installing Toshiba Value Pack for Vista it is gone.

Please help. WHAT IS: ACPI\TOS1901 *TOS1901

Answer:Unknown device on Satellite A100-153 after BIOS update to 5.1

ACPI -> Advanced Configuration and Power Interface
ACPI defines hardware and software interfaces that enable OS-directed configuration and Power Management to enumerate and configure motherboard devices.
For example: ACPI is needed for the stand by and hibernation mode.

Now to you question; the new BIOS was updated and configured for VISTA usage.
It seems the VISTA was not compatible with the previous BIOS version because of the ACPI interface. Now you can install the Vista on the notebook but it seems you will need an driver. Possibly new chipset driver release could help. But as you probably know, the drivers are not available at this time. Unfortunately?

I'm having some issues with my GF's Satellite A100 (PSAA8A). I accidentally, while installing a new HDD with a clean install of XP, flashed the BIOS while installing the drivers. Its kind of bricked now.

Using a CD Bootdisk, combined with the V6.00 BIOS update, I can get to a DOS command prompt but am uncertain where to go now.

Under *Tradional BIOS Update*
See link : [ IOS&FID=TRO0000000b07]

It says :
+1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.+
+2. In the temporary folder three sub folders will be generated. "docs", "Update - 3,5' Disk", "Update - CD-R or CD-RW"+
+3. Insert a formatted 1.44MB diskette in the floppy disk drive.+
+4. Execute the *.exe file in the folder "Update - 3.5' Disk". Follow the instructions on the screen. A BIOS update diskette will be generated.+

But there are no 3 folders. There is only one called S10VWF which contains Winphlash etc (see pic url). As far as I'm aware I can only run Winphlash in a Windows environment due to its GUI. So what do I do? Help!!!!!

Answer:Re: How to run BIOS update from DOS prompt - Satellite A100 PSAA8A?

Hi Brett

There is a tiny thing that you have forgotten or overviewed.

The BIOS which you have downloaded is a ?WIN? BIOS version. It?s not traditional BIOS update!!!

The description posted in your posting describes the update using traditional BIOS.
But Toshiba driver page provides only the WIN-based BIOS updates. Such BIOS can be upgraded only from running Windows OS.

Please don?t mix these both updates possibilities!!!!

Hey i have some trouble after install the Bios Version 5.1 on a Satellite A100-289.

First of all: There is NO external USB Device connected!
After waking up the Notebook from Sleepmode i got a message in Windows XP the a power fault was detected on one of the USB Devices. A Dialog opens and i can "reset" the Device.

This only happens after the notebook is waked up from sleepmode, maybe also from hibernate, but not when startup the Notebook. It seems that everything is working fine, but this message makes me nervous.

Can anyone tell me, whats going on in this box?

Answer:Satellite A100-289: After Bios 5.1 update powerfault on usb device

Bios 5.1 is designed for vista...
so when you are using it with XP may have problem...why? is designed for vista...

If you have the XP then you should install the bioses for XP.... ( i dont know which numbers ( version), but for M100 models the 2.x are for XP and 5.x are for Vista )

An upgrade is not possible

However, you could try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor and then wait one hour. After this connect the battery and AC/DC adaptor again and try to start Windows.
Furthermore I would load the default settings in BIOS before you start Windows.

If it doesn?t work it seems that your ROM module must be reflashed. In this case an ASP can help you.

Hi Guys,

My laptop (few month old) decided to die and I have been told by tech support that it could be due to the BIOS. Is there any other mirror to get the traditional update or even some way to convert the Windows BIOS update to a boot disk?

If you can see only one BIOS version on the Toshiba page then only one version exists and is available!!!!

I don?t think that BIOS could be responsible for such problem.

You should firstly provide more infos about this issue!!!
Does the notebook pass the Toshiba welcome screen?! Did you try to recover the notebook with the Toshiba recovery CD?

Please provide some details!

I have downloaded the BIOS upgrade (file S10V600.exe) for my Toshiba Satellite A100-437 (PSAA8). When I am trying to run it I'm getting the answer:
"Cannot load driver
This driver has been blocked form loading.
Error code: 1275"
(I've putted dots in place of less interesting part of this message.

My system is Vista Business 64bit SP1.

I did have turned off User Account Control (in fact it the first thing I did after installing Vista ;) ).
And just to be sure I also tried to right-click the S10V600.exe file and choose "Run as administrator".
I was using the admin account.

Nothing has helped. Still the same window with the cited above message appeared.

Any help would be appreciated!

Answer:Satellite A100 - BIOS update problem with phlashnt.sys and Vista 64

Perhaps it's because you have 64bit Vista installed?

You may need to use XP or Vista 32bit to update the BIOS.

After updating the bios on my a100 920 to the latest 5.60 I can no longer boot from USB attached memory sticks or hard drives.

Is this a known problem? Can I revert to an older bios and if so where do I find it? If not how soon will there be a fix, or is there something I can try to fix in the mean time.

Help! It's really frustrating!

Talk about the old "if it aint broke don't fix it" biting me back.

Answer:Satellite A100-920 PS9AA: 5.60 BIOS update has broken booting from USB

Did you really boot from the USB stick???
In my knowledge this is not possible and not supported.
Only the booting from HDD, ODD, LAN or USB FDD is possible but not from USB stick or USB HDD.
But the A100 is a one of the newest notebook series and maybe the booting from USB memory was included.

Did you check the Toshiba HWSetup?? This tool supports different options and you can control the Boot Priority from this utility!
Check in the ?Boot Priority? tab if the USB memory is available and was set as first.

Regarding the BIOS downgrade; I think something like that is not possible because only the newest BIOS versions are available on the Toshiba page.
But if you want, you can contact the ASP in your country for details and maybe the technician could downgrade the BIOS to the second last version.

I receive message that there is TPM error inbound (missing or disabled), in trough I have this TPM in security section of Bios, but I can not change it.

Answer:Satellite A100-PSAAN: Can I update the Bios from PSAA8 model?

NO you can?t!!!

The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the motherboard.

I read you first thread and it seems you get the TPM message because you Downgraded the OS from Vista to XP!

Hello all,

I used Toshiba's BIOS update utility on this machine. It was working fine before, now it gets stuck with the Toshiba splash logo. Pressing F2 and/or F12 do not work. Pressing esc. Gives the following error. No TPM or TPM has problem. Everything else seems as normal. It show Bios 6.00 which is what I'd in theory flashed it to.

I'm guessing the flash went bad. Is there an emergency recovery procedure for this?

Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash: =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42

After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.

I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?

What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?

Thanks in advance

Trying to update BIOS on Satellite Pro U500 PSU9CA. The download site says there is a new version available, after downloading and running the program nothing happens. You can see the Winflash process in task manager but it never 'pops' up. Has this even been tested by Toshiba?

Has anyone been able to get the BIOS updated?

Any help or suggestions?
How can I install back my BIOS backup from DOS?

Answer:Satellite U400 - After BIOS update I can't start Windows

Did you really choose the right BIOS for your notebook? Because on the Toshiba website are different U400 models so did you choose the BIOS for PSU44E on the Toshiba page?

After the BIOS you should load the default settings in BIOS.
Did you check this?

A BIOS downgrade is not possible. This can only be done from an authorized service provider. So you should contact them and ask a technician for help. I?m sure that they will help you. ;)

Hi All,
I tried flashing my BIOS through windows as recommended on my Laptop Manufacturer (Toshiba) website. I guess the process went wrong as after 2 hours still the message "Do not interrupt" was getting displayed. I had to force power off my PC. Now it is not booting up.
The Laptio is Toshiba SA50-114, Satellite series.Model No - PSA50E

I have tried suggestions in following link
However, this did not work.

However, I don't have the recovery disk tool and BIOS/ROM file. Have tried searching on internet, but with no results.

Can someone please help me with
1. How can I perform the BIOS update to get my PC running back.

2. Point me to links where I can find the files in the above link.

Many Thanks in advance.

Not possible if your BIOS ROM module was wrong flashed.
If you are a lucky man then only the ROM module must be flashed again using an special procedure. But this can be done only by an authorized service provider in your country.

There is no link! You will have to ask the ASP for the help.

I got a sattellite pro L300, width a partitioned HDD, C with Win XP installed and D with Windows 7 installed, the problem is the follow:

To days when i switched on my laptop, the OS Boot screen doesn't appear, the startup process stop on the Toshiba logo.
In addition i can not enter the BIOS using the button F2 or the boot manager using F12 button.

Please help.

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 doesn't start - Cannot enter BIOS

>the startup process stop on the Toshiba logo
This would mean that the notebook cannot pass the POST (power on self test) correctly and this would mean that an hardware problem has been detected on the motherboard.

Remove one of the RAM modules (check both) and try to power up using only one RAM module.
It could be possible that one of the RAM modules is faulty?

It could be also possible that the motherboard malfunctions? as you see, it?s hard to say what part could be wrong but everything looks like an serious hardware malfunction?

HelloI have some issues with my Y50-70 laptop. For some time I have strange FPS drops while playing games. All runs smoothly but suddenly fps drop to 5-10 for a few seconds, then all goes back to normal. I read that it's a matter of old BIOS version. I tried to update BIOS (2.00 -> 3.03) but id doesn't work. InsydeFlash starts, then I get a prompt about not turning off PC, I click 'ok', then IF flashes some messages about 'erasing and writing new files' and then system reboots as always (without any updates, installs or anything alike). I tried to install BIOS using USB stick, but for that I need iso file. The thing is that on Lenovo support site all iso are literally empty. Just hollow file with nothing inside (yet somehow it weights about 20mb). I cannot find any solution on the internet, as if this problem occured only on my laptop.I'm using Windows 10 64bit and Ubuntu 17.10 (dual-system, combined using grub 2).

My problem is that I update the BIOS and after that the machine does not restart. ( BIOS corrupt ? )

After the BIOS update (Satellite L40 PSL48E) the machine reboot and with the F2 key I open the BIOS setup.
I check the BIOS version ( 5.50 ) and exit the BIOS setup. The machine must be reboot now.....
No Way, the machine does not restart . No screen only the powerled lights-up.

Is there anything I can to fix it on my own like a BIOS reset ?

Thank you for cooperation.

Answer:Satellite L40 (PSL48E) - Doesn't reboot after BIOS update

This is strange because after the BIOS update you could go into the BIOS.

However, try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then put the battery in and connect the AC/DC adaptor. Try it again.

If it doesn?t work there is something wrong with the BIOS or hardware and should be checked by a notebook technician.

Hello all!

When I tried to install it, Vista crashed and now the laptop won't even turn on.

When I keep the power button pressed, the fan wheezes but nothing else happens.
I think the BIOS is gone or corrupted.

What do I do?

What to say buddy?. Looks like something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure? Possibly the BIOS was not written correctly and the ROM module must be flashed again using a special procedure and tool.

In such case you can do nothing? you have to contact the ASP in your country for a fix!!!

Don?t waste a time and ask an authorized service technician for a help.

I'm in the process of upgrading my old Satellite Pro 6100.

I began to upgrade Bios via the Toshiba download site (using WIN) - zip files downloaded OK and installed, machine switched off automatically. Problem is it did not reboot - so now I have a 'dead' laptop which does not respond to any key I have tried.

Any suggestions for resuscitation?

Previously I updated XP to SP2.

Answer:Satellite Pro 6100 - After BIOS update it doesn't respond

It sounds like that the BIOS update failed and your notebook can?t start again. But try this workaround:
Remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery, and then wait one hour. After this connect the AC/DC adaptor and battery again. Try to start the notebook.

If it doesn?t work I think the mainboard must be replaced or you go to an authorized service provider. The technicians can reflash the ROM module.
But maybe you can find a cheap second hand mainboard on eBay?

I have recently (yesterday) downloaded the latest bios update dated 25/02/10 version 2.20-WIN, after downloading and running the software the laptop immediately stopped working and shut down. I am now no longer able to boot the laptop at all, all I get is the power light on and the hard drive light blinks, I can hear the CD/DVD drive spinning, but thats it no screen nothing at all, I don't think it is booting.

Is there a way to correct this without taking it to a shop/engineer, recovering the BIOS??

The Laptop is a Satellite L350, I have opened the laptop to try and reset the CMOS by removing the motherboard battery (not sure if this would have helped), however as far as I can tell it doesn't have one or I can't find it.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Andy,

Hmm... If BIOS update failed you can do nothing because only an authorized service provider has professional diagnostic and recover tools to make an update again.

So in my opinion you must contact an authorized service provider in your country. Get in contact with the guys and ask for help. They will tell you what to do now.

Here is a list of them: > Support & Downloads > Find an ASP

I doubt you can fix a damaged BIOS yourself. If the BIOS is corrupted, it cannot initialize the hardware, which means you cannot boot from anything.

You would need to get the Mainboard replaced at an Authorized Service Center.

I think in this case you must go to an ASP. I don?t see another solution for this problem because I think the ROM module must be reflashed or the completely mainboard must be replaced.

On the Toshiba website you can search for the nearest ASP: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

Answer:Satellite L100 doesn't boot up - BIOS update issue

Hi there,

if bios had been corrupted, then it will leave you with no option but to bring it to an Authorized Toshiba Repair Center.

Updating the bios is really risky, It should not even be interrupted. The Bios is responsible in Identifying and Initialization of the system component hardware (such as the video display card, hard disk, and floppy disk) If this is corrupted then you might just really get a black screen.

Hope this will help you :)

I upgraded my Satellite L10-119 with new HDD 250Gb and update BIOS. The notebook worked fine.
After two month a follow probem happened - only first 137Gb(2^48) of HDD is accessible.
I detected:

1. If I flash BIOS again and computer rebooted after flashing, the upper part of HDD is accessible for a short time or until I reboot again.
2. An internal clock show 01/01/1988 if I disconnect and connect a main battery.

So I suppose this is a problem with RTC battery (the L10-119 is 2.5 years old)

I tried to charge RTC battery by connecting the notebook to electicity for a long time, but it doesn't solve the problem.
Does anybody know that can I do else (except visit ASP)?

Message was edited by: Admin

Answer:Satellite L10-119: BIOS Update clears and RTC battery doesn't charge

Your guess was right, and I think too, the problem with your always cleared BIOS settings lies in RTC battery.
In other words, the RTC is dead.

Charging the battery won't succeed, because it can't keep the charge.
And it is surely not as easy to replace then with desktop PCs, so I would advise you to contact local ASP, because the whole unit has to be disassembled.

I'm sorry to tell you, that this is the only method I know to get your notebook back to life.

anyone an idea ?

Answer:Satellite Pro 4600 - unit doesn’t start after some BIOS settings are changed

It?s very strange because in my opinion a changing of some battery settings in the BIOS don?t induce such issues.
In the battery area in the BIOS you can change the settings like processing speed, cpu sleep mode, cooling method, etc?
What you can do is set the BIOS to default values. In this case you have to use the ?HOME? button.
But if after this procedure the notebook doesn?t work so I assume that there is something wrong with the hardware. In this case you have to contact the service.

If it's not, then you might have success with Crisis Recovery Disk. I don't have any A350, but I have used Crisis Recovery with lots of dead Toshiba's, and it sometimes works. There is more information [here|] but be careful, because this method can make a good BIOS go bad.

I installed this BIOS update for my Equium M50-164 and during the installiong i got and error -164 laptop and now everytime I try to boot it up I just get a black screen, the lights tell me it is powered on, the hard drive is on etc but the screen is just pure black and I tried an external monitor but that didn't work either and I also tried by toshiba recovery CD and that didn't work.

I have even tried the crisis disk recovery method, but actually need someone to help me and give me a back up of the working bios as toshiba will not.

Answer:While BIOS update I got 164 error - my Equium M50 doesn't start anymore

I?m sorry to hear this.
The fact is that something was going wrong with BIOS update and now the BIOS is simply damaged.
There is no way to start your notebook with damaged BIOS.

The best thing you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba authorized service provider. they can help you with it.

My XPS 15 9550 laptop received a Dell update notification to install BIOS 1.5 about 3 days ago.  I did the update and it initially appeared to succeed.  Today I rebooted the laptop for the first time since updating, and it failed to restart.  It does not POST or show the BIOS screen.  The power light illuminates when pressed, and goes out when pressed again (after a short delay). The keyboard illumination comes on while the power button is lit. Other than that, there is no sign of life. If I power on with the 'D' key pressed, the screen does show the color-flashing LCD test.
The symptoms are exactly as described in this thread from May:, exactly.  I did all the same diagnostic steps listed there, and got absolutely identical results at each step. The BIOS recovery proposed there also failed identically for me.
The final message in that thread seemed to state that it was a motherboard failure.  It's just too much of a stretch that my motherboard would fail in the exact same manner, immediately following a BIOS update (unless you classify a corrupt BIOS as a motherboard failure?).
What other steps can I take to clear and reload my BIOS, if the USB stick with BIOS_IMG.rcv and Ctrl-Esc-PowerPlug recovery method never succeeds?

Answer:XPS 15 9550 dead after BIOS 1.5 update, doesn't POST or show BIOS

Hi all

I 've bought my A660-12E laptop in june 2010, and since a few months I've been encountering frequent problems of freezing screens, unsollicitated shutdowns ... so I decided to clean my computer and update the core programs of the computer (including BIOS) with the latest versions found on the Toshiba website, hoping it would run more properly.

So when it came to BIOS update. I wanted to do it slowly because I know it is the most touchy point in update, but I don't know what happens during this step: the program was barely launched (and it was the only program running) that he was already updating my BIOS, and at this special moment my laptop automatically restarted ... obviously I've got no BIOS anymore since my computer won't start again, the screen doesn't display anything AT ALL. There are barely the fan noises and the lights when I turn it on, but that's it.

So I'm quite angry at Toshiba's BIOS update program (and also at Toshiba) because I have the feeling that I did everything correctly, but nevertheless this updater just bricked my computer.

Is there any way to recover it, or do you also think it's bricked and lost ?

Answer:Satellite A660-12E crash down during BIOS update, doesn't restart anymore

I?m afraid BIOS is screwed up now and what you need now is professional help.
I strongly recommend you to contact nearest Toshiba service provider, explain the situation and ask for help.

Hi there,

I installed the BIOS update 3 days ago, I did have a couple programmes open at the time and also an external USB mouse in at the time. The hard drive crashed and then blacked out, but the power was still on with the fan working at full pelt. I attempted turning the computer off by the power button, but it wouldn't, so I let it run out of battery. Since then the computer seems to turn on but the screen has been blacked out ever since, so I cannot see what state the hard drive is in.

Any ideas?

Answer:Re: Installed BIOS update to my Satellite Pro L300D and now screen doesn't work

Oh buddy, this sounds like that your ROM module is damged due a faulty BIOS update :(

Normally a BIOS update should *not* be done with running background programs (also antivirus). I think this was the reason why the update wasn?t successfully.

However, you can do nothing. You will need help from a notebook technician that can try to reflash the ROM module. On the Toshiba page you can search for an ASP: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

I bought my Satellite Z930 in August and installed 2GB extra RAM in it. Worked fine, the Ultrabook detected it and had total 6GB of RAM.
Yesterday I stopped ignoring these Toshiba Tempro messages and installed the suggested BIOS Update to Bios 2.20 (don't know which version it was before). Now I have several problems:

*First one*, my Ultrabook doesn't start anymore with the extra RAM. I press the power button, then the power LED starts blinking: 2 times yellow, 1 time orange in loop. The screen stays black and the CPU fan raises to maximum level..Only when I remove the extra RAM, then it starts.

*Second problem*, without my extra RAM it starts, but sometimes with the CPU fan at maximum level. So i have to restart that it stops.

*Third problem*, Windows only detects 2GB of RAM. I have now no extra RAM istalled, so it should detect 4GB of RAM, like when I bought it. Now there are only 2GB...

So is this what happens when I install suggested updates? -.-
So what can I do now? At least I want my preinstalled 4GB of RAm back. Is there any BIOS downgrade, or something similar to revert the changes?

Answer:Satellite Z930 - after BIOS Update, Extra RAM doesn't work anymore

OK, solved the problem. I found a BIOS downgrade to 2.1 at this page:
Now I have my 6GB back :)

I updated the BIOS to 4.70 in my P100 PSPAAE. After the restart I was waiting for about 10 minutes, but nothing happened, after the BIOS screen the display went black. I turned the laptop off than.

I chose "start windows normally" option. Since than (I suppose) the laptop doesn`t boot from the optical drive. No matter I set it to boot from there. Everything else works fine.

Is it because of the BIOS update, or something else can cause this problem? Any idea or help appreciated!

Answer:Re: Satellite P100 - After BIOS update it doesn't boot from optical drive

Is the optical drive recognized from BIOS?
Can you read the disk in Windows?

Maybe you should load the default settings in BIOS and try another bootable disk.

like recommended by tempro, I updated BIOS from ver.2.1 to 2.2 (windows-Version). After rebooting, touchpad incl. tips doesn?t work anymore. In bios touchpad is enabled, in system it says unit is working properly. FN/F9 makes no effect. Reinstalling synaptics drivers - no effect - still dead.

Satellite L300-26K
Using Vista 32bit home

How can I restore BIOS to 2.1 again? (if i try the windows-bios utility from V2.1 it says it is still installed - so I cannot downgrade by this easy way)

Please help - I need my notebook without external mouse (this works)

Answer:Satellite L300-26K - After BIOS update the touchpad doesn't work anymore

Hi enigmo,

I can?t imagine that this happened due the BIOS update. Have you tried reinstalling Windows by using Toshiba recovery disk?

This BIOS downgrade can only be done from an authorized service provider. The technicians can install every version because they have such special tools to make a downgrade.

On the Toshiba website you can find a list of them. Just give the guys and ask for that. They will help you! :)

I just got an email saying there was a BIOS update for my laptop. It started to install but my computer shut down and won't start back up

The update was: ACPI Flash BIOS version 1.90 for Sat/Sat Pro L355D/L305D (PSLE0U, PSLC0/1U)

Answer:Satellite L - After BIOS update it won't start up again

And what Satellite notebook you have exactly? Is your notebook designed for this update or is it another model?

After a failed BIOS update you can try this workaround: Remove the AC/DC adaptor and battery then wait one hour. After this connect the AC/DC adaptor and battery again. Now try to start the notebook again.

If the notebook doesn?t start you need help from a notebook technician. Therefore contact the nearest authorized service provider. They can help and will try to reflash the ROM module I think or the mainboard must be exchanged.

I am trying to update my BIOS to version 2.00-WIN for Satellite Pro L40 PSL4BE.
My OS is Vista 64bit.

I have downloaded the file and executed the .exe however nothing happens.

I have also tried copying the files to a floppy disk and booting with a floppy, however, I get an error message advising to remove the disk from the drive on booting. Any help please?

Answer:Satellite Pro L40 - After I start the BIOS update nothing happens

First of all the BIOS update for Satellite Pro L40 is Windows based so it?s possible to update it in DOS mode.

Furthermore I have checked the Toshiba website and I can only find a BIOS for Windows XP and Windows Vista 32bit.
It seems that the BIOS update is not supported of Vista 64bit.

If you want to update it, you should change to Vista 32bit or XP. Then you can update the BIOS.
Don?t forget that version 2.00-WIN is for Vista 32bit and 5.50-WIN for XP.

Hi, First of all, this is first post.

I have 2 satellite L50-A-160 with bios 1.1

Problem: seems to go to sleep after couple of minutes even while working on them (same with both)

So I found an update 1.9, downloaded and run on one of the laptops. the biosupdate tool found matching bios and did a run.
In middle of flashing it went to sleep. turned on and no boot. what can I do? Any recovery options? i guess the same will happen with the other too..

What is wrong with these computers?

besides; very poor battery, alway shows 0 percent availiable and not charging..
Do anyone have any solutions?

Best Regards
--still hoping--

Answer:Satellite L50-A-160 does not start after Bios update

Have you tried to change it in Power Options?

see screenshot and try to change the ones I have marked (it may refresh the settings, just change the values) and observe if this solved the problem.

and for the other laptop with no boot, a laptop sleeping while updating bios will surely mess it.

what I cant understand is why your laptop sleep at BIOS update, as far as I know sleep settings is only active while on windows(since this is controlled by windows)
it should not sleep while in BIOS even you leave it for 1year, sleep settings only activates after loading windows.

have you tried checking the temps of your laptops processor? maybe its overheating causing auto-off

I can't get into the bios anymore. I updated the bios via the BIOS Update Utility 2.56 and after that I can't see the "press enter to interupt normal startup" message anymore. And therfore can't get into the bios. Windows is still booting normally.  Any ideas?

Answer:T430s bios doesn't show press enter to interupt normal startup after bios update

I found one way to enable it again temporarly: "One way to do it is to use the advanced restart facility in windows 8.  To do this open up the "modern" UI settings (Win-C then choose settings-->change PC settings), go to the general page, scroll down to the bottom and you'll see an option for "Advanced Startup".  If you click the Restart now button and then choose to restart on the page you get offered as the PC powers down, it should let you enter the BIOS." But as soon as windows 8 is booted again the enter message will disapear again.  Any ideas on how to make this permanent?  Thanks

After bios update with downloaded utility my notebook does not start up.
Did this case covered by warranty?

Answer:Satellite A series does not start up after BIOS update

I?m not quite sure if this would be covered by warranty. You should contact the ASP in your country for details but I presume it?s not covered.

PS: Did you try this workaround:
- remove battery, disconnect the AC adaptor
- wait ~ 40min
- connect both devices again and try to power up the notebook

I have just updated my BIOS from 2.10 to 2.20 to try to overcome an overheating problem with Linux.
On rebooting the laptop XP will not start. I get the XP screen for a few seconds then the blue scrren of death flashes up beofre the laptop reboots. The blue screen is so quick it doesn't finish writing up the text - so I cannot see any numbers to check the error.

If I select Linux Mint from my GRUB screen the laptop starts correctly. I can also see the Windows partitions. I have tried to boot from an XP disc to run CHKDSK but I get to the stage where it says it is inspecting my configuration then hangs on a black / blank screen and just sits there.

Any ideas? Is it possible to roll back the BIOS?

Answer:Xp wont start after BIOS update on Satellite L

> Is it possible to roll back the BIOS?

Yes, you can downgrade (rollback) if you have made a backup.

Can you enter the Bios and check if compatible mode enabled (after Bios update, it could put AHCI by default)?

I've got Sat A210-199.
Yesterday I upgraded BIOS, and after that the problems occured:

While rebooting my computer doesn't start. When I enter the BIOS after some time it turns off.
I suppose all of this because the CPU temperature:

When I do nothing it's 77 C. I don't think it's normal :(.
Computer is very new, so probably it's not dust inside. And it's so hot from the start, but, after new BIOS, something wrong is happening.

Why this temp is so high?
There is no any background processes or something.
Is that normal?
And what about this new BIOS?

Answer:Satellite A210-199 does not start properly after BIOS update

To be honest something like this should not happen. I really do not understand why this happen. I have updated BIOS on friends A200 and on mine P200 and everything works well. Here on this forum we can just speculate about this issue but what you exactly need is professional opinion.

This will probably not help but install recovery image and check it with ?factory settings?. Be also sure the cooling fan on the bottom side is not blocked and the notebook can be cooled properly. If the problem persists you should contact nearest authorized service provider and clarify this issue.

Sorry but I really do not know what you can do in this situation. I do not see any alternative way to solve this.

Good luck!

I have bought my wife a Toshiba L300-20D ( PSLB8E-0CK00YEN ). It came with Vista loaded which she cannot get on with.

My grandson offerred to sort it out. He fitted a new hard drive, loaded it with XP and managed to get nearly all the drivers working with the exception of the WiFi .

After spending many hours he decided to update the bios from v1.8 to v1.9. Since then it wont start.. It comes up with the Toshba screen, Start windows normally, it then tries to load windows, flashes and starts the cycle al over.

He has tried the default settings, tried an XP disc, setting it to start on disc, nothing. It does just the same in safe mode.

Any suggestions will be appreciated

Answer:Satellite L300-20D - After BIOS update it wont start now

Did you set the SATA Mode to "Compatibility" when installing XP? (You would see a BSOD with the code 0x0000007B - if Automatic Restart is disabled from the Windows boot menu)

The BIOS update would have reset it back to SATA AHCI Mode. So set it to Compatibility again.

If that doesn't work, try a System Restore in Safe Mode to return the registry back to a previous date.

Using the Toshiba Service Station, it notified me of an update. The update is called "Satellite L670/L675, Satellite Pro L670 BIOS Update Version 1.50". When I install the update, it gives me this error: "There is an error occurred, please check below items. BIOS version above 150. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached."

I tried the update when my battery was 100% and the AC was connected and yet I still get the error.

Can anyone help me with this?

Answer:Re: Satellite L670 - Error when start BIOS update

First of all I must say if you don?t have any problems with your computer forget this update. BIOS update is only necessary if you really have any problems, otherwise I wouldn?t such risky update.

Anyway, if you download the BIOS update you have to extract all files from zip archive first before you start it. Make also sure that you are logged in as Administrator.

I can't use the CD/DVD device to boot with a Win PE.

I think the BIOS was not successfully because your notebook doesn?t boot again.
In this case you can?t make a lot of.

Try this: Remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor, wait up to 1 hour and then connect the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Try it again and hope it works.

If it not works you should contact a local ASP. In worst case the mainboard must be exchanged :(

Today I was installing recommended BIOS update 1.70 to 1.90. During installation the mouse cursor disappeared and was no reaction to keyboard keys. But there was a message DO NOT TURN OFF COMPUTER. So I was waiting for a long time (an hour?), but the update progress bar was still in the same place - like my computers is hanging.

After long time of waiting with no reaction I decided to reset computer. Only way to do it was pressing Turn on button for some seconds.

But after turning on again there is nothing visible on the screen, only reaction of computer is that turn-on lamp is on and hard disk lamp is flashing every two seconds. What to do? Please help me! I have very important data on hard disk at the moment! Can I reset BIOS? I tried to yutm on computer having pressed Escape key and F2 key, but no effect. I put CD with Operating System, but no effect.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 dont start after BIOS update

Its possible that the BIOS chip is faulty, causing the BIOS update to fail during the writing process.

If you have tried reseating the RAM and removing the power for an hour, there is not much else you can do except send it to an ASP for warranty repair.

I have an A30, and I tried a bios upgrade to 4.2 which is the latest version for my model. Bios upgrade went well, it prompted me to restart the laptop after the process was finished, but after that I was not able to boot. I makes it to the screen where I can enter BIOS setup (which I can actually do, and I am able to change settings and save them) but after that the screen turns black and it hangs.

At first I thought that I have done something wrong and upgrade did not work well, so I started looking for crisis bios recovery methods, I found this article:
Following the steps described I managed to get my USB floppy drive working and, hopefully, reflashing BIOS, but it did not help it still would hang at the same stage.

My laptop has an expired warranty, so I can not get it fixed for free, and service will probably cost me half its price. Is there anything else I can do to get it fixed?

I was thinking to flash an older bios version - maybe the latest 4.2 is not actually compatible with my model, but I could not find any... is it possible to get an older bios version and give it a try with a floppy drive?

In my opinion you shouldn?t not try any ?Crisis Recovery disks? which you fond in the net? this can lead to mobo damage?

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

Hi All ! Excuse my poor english because i'm french.

A friend gives me his Notebook (a Satellite 4090CDS exactly) because he had a probleme.
In fact, the problem is that when I switch on the computer, i have one and only one message(not even the red toshiba logo) which is "Ready for BIOS update. Place the BIOS update diskette in the drive, and press any key when ready to proceed."

So I go on french toshiba website, in the BIOS download, i find that i have to download this update:

Ok, i download and unzip it to a diskette and i boot the notebook with the disjette, it said that the update was made successfully and automatically reboot.
This time, the red toshiba logo appears, but next i have a black screen with a message:

**** Bad check sum (CMOS) ****
Check system. Then press [F1] key.

And after that, i can't do anything, not even press F1. If i reboot the notebook, i meet myself one more time with the first message "Ready for BIOS update..." and it is still and still the same.

If anyone could help me to understand what is the problem, it would be very nice.

Answer:Satellite 4090 BIOS issue - "Ready for BIOS update..." message appears

It sounds as if your CMOS chip has a problem. It?s possible that the CMOS battery has failed and your BIOS settings are being lost.
Maybe the RTC battery is empty. In this case you should plug the AC adaptor to charge the RTC battery.
Please note that the RTC battery (CMOS battery) will charge after the notebook main battery was fully charged. In this case the charging procedure could take several hours.

But if after this long charging procedure this message appears again so I assume the battery is dead.
I suggest you contact your nearest ASP to get your notebook checked.

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?
