Preferred Solution: Re: Satellite A300-1mt - HDD upgrade question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Re: Satellite A300-1mt - HDD upgrade question

I think the notebooks BIOS should recognize the new HDD.
The new HDD is a SATA HDD and this is most important thing.

You need a SATA 2.5? HDD!
The size and the speed are not really important because the new SATA controller should handle such HDD trouble free.

Hi everyone,

after few years I decided to spend some money to upgrade the RAM.
Now, I am quite stuck to understand what to do.

I have always known that my notebook may be upgraded to 8GB.
I also have many references for this information:

- model: Satellite A300-1Q PSAGCE-07000QIT

I physically checked the slots: there are currently two slots of 2GB each.
As non-expert, I thought that the most logic way to upgrade such a configuration is to buy other two chips of 4GB each to reach the 8GB.

However, it seems that this combination is not feasible becasue I do not find it (I checked on Kingston and Amazon website). The RAM upgrade I would like to achieve is:
-800 Mhz

If this can be of help I jot down all the data on the other two RAM modules:
2GB 2Rx8 PC2-64005-666-12-Z3
800 Mhz DDR2-SDRAM

Can anybody help me to figure out what to do for upgrading the RAM to 8GB?

Many thanks,

Answer:Satellite A300-1QP - RAM upgrade question

The notebook was equipped with the Intel GM45 Express chipset and according to Intel ARK page this Mobile Intel GM45 Express Chipset is able to handle the 8GB RAM
The chipset seems to support the 667MHz / 800MHz / 1066MHz modules

If you want to upgrade the RAM up to 8GB RAM, the best option would be the usage of 2 x 4GB SO-DIMM (DDR2 800Mhz) modules
The present modules has to be removed and replaced with two 4GB modules.

Usually you can use different brand modules but cheap modules can cause many different and strange issue. Therefore I would recommend you to purchase good quality modules like Kingston, Toshiba, etc?

Hey there, sorry if this has been asked before but my search was not leading anywhere.

Currently I do have a

- Satellite A300-25K (with painful Windows Vista Home Premium),
- Intel Dual Core T 6400 @ 2GHz
- ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650

I wish to *upgrade to Win7* (in hopes of less pain)

- Would it be *possible* to upgrade to Win7 *64bit* version?
- Would it give me some *advantage* over the *32bit* version?

Your help is greatly appreciated, thanks for spending the time reading and replying

Answer:Satellite A300-25K Upgrade to Win7, 32 or 64 question

I have installed Windows 7 on my Satellite A300-1LI and can confirm that everything works perfectly. I am very satisfied and it runs really good. I use it for 6 months now and until now I didn't notice any problem or some strange issue.

I have done clean Windows 7 installation and not an update.
If you need some assistance with Win7 installation let me know.

I don't know which version do you use now but if you use 32bit you cannot upgrade it to 64bit. It must be clean installation.
Advantage? I didn't test it on my satellite with 64bit but theoretically OS should use more hardware resources but it can happen that many software you use is not designed for 64bit OS.

I wanted to ask, how can I upgrade to Vista 64bit without loosing all the software I got packed with my Toshiba Satellite A300-1EG laptop?
Would I miss the Toshiba disc creator and so on?
Is there a way to extract them somehow from the recovery DVD?

Answer:Question about 64-bit Vista upgrade - Satellite A300-1EG

Please don't mix two different things. 32-bit and 64-bit versions are not the same and if your notebook is supported for 64-bit Vista version you can find all drivers, tools and utilities on Toshiba download page under

Have you already checked this?

BTW: recovery image cannot be used for single parts. It can be used as package only.

Hi :)

i'm quite a new user to laptops...
Can graphic cards like nvidia geforce be installed in my Sat A300?? to what max extent of mem can i install??

Answer:Satellite A300: graphics card upgrade question

No, the graphic card cannot be upgraded.
In most cases (except of MXM module) the GPU is soldered on the motherboard and I don?t think you could remove it.
But even if you were able to remove the chip you will not find any GPUs which would be compatible with notebooks motherboard and BIOS.

So in my opinion you should forget this upgrade?

We have a Satellite Pro A300-2C4 (purchased 23/11/09) which came with Vista Business 32Bit installed but was downgraded (using disk provided) to Windows XP because of business network requirements.

When Windows 7 became available I purchased the Windows 7 upgrade DVD that Toshiba were offering so that if the Business decided to upgrade to the new operating system we could do so on this laptop.

This is what I have recently tried to do to discover it cannot be done as the DVD is for Win Vista Bus to Win 7 Pro upgrade. What is the best way to do the upgrade without having to purchase another upgrade disk. I do have a set of Recovery Discs for another Toshiba SatellitePro A300-2C4 which was purchased about 2 months before this one; these were created using the Toshiba Recovery software before any changes were made on the laprop. Would I be able to recover the system to its Windows Vista state using these discs and then use the Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD to do the upgarde?

Any suggestions or recommendations would be greatly received.

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A300-2C4 'Windows 7 Professional Upgrade DVD' to upgrade

Upgrading from WinXP to Win7 is not supported by Toshiba nor by Microsoft.
The only possible way to upgrade (go from 1 installation with some data to Win7 and keeping your settings and data) is from WinVista SP1 or later.

So regardless of how You look at it, You need to get XP out and either begin with WinVista factory installation + any 1 million updates that were released after this, OR
you can boot up from the Win7 media directly and install clean.
The second method saves a lot of time BUT have some negative side effects - namely not all drivers and utilities will be available in the final system if installed clean.
Some packages from WinVista works well in Win7 and are for that reason expected to be in the system during the update.
Hence, if You do a clean install, they will be missing.

However, they might not cause any trouble for You if they are not there, but that is not known until You're there and can see what You are missing.
Basic functionality should be expected though (WLAN, LAN, Sound, on)

So, think about what You want to do and get busy with either recovering your unit with the WinVista set, updating, and then running the Toshiba Upgrade DVD, Win 7 upgrade and finally the Toshiba upgrade DVD again, OR just install Win7 clean + adding as much as possible / needed from the Toshiba Upgrade DVD.

Good luck!

I have Satellite A300-210 and I want to buy SSD disk. Can I input in into second place for disk in my notebook? I can't find there any connection to the disk.
I even can change my disk for the new disk.

I have one more question is there SATA 1 or SATA 2 interface.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Upgrade with SSD

Hi przybi,

It?s no problem to install SSD into second HDD/SSD place if there is an additional connector for such a drive.
If you don?t have a second SATA connector you can only exchange the current HDD with your new SSD.

Regarding SATA interface: I think it?s SATA2 already but it?s not important. Newer SATA2 drives are compatible to old SATA1 interface. :)

I have done follow steps:
-I?ve upgraded RAM
-I?ve bought 265 GB SSD
-and last step was Windows 7 installation.

Believe me machine runs like a ?rocket?. Windows 7 is fully supported and all drivers, tools and utilities you can find and download from Toshiba download page -

Answer:Satellite A300-1MM: RAM, HDD, CPU upgrade

To be clear: HDD and RAM upgrades are supported.
CPU upgrade is not supported due to several reasons. Check lease -

You must understand that hardware upgrade on mobile machines is pretty limited due to specific construction and cooling system. I don?t know for which kind of operations you use your notebook but my A300 runs perfectly with Win7 32bit and has enough power for everyday activity and all multimedia operations.

Upgrade RAM to maximum and be happy with it.

Hi all,
Quick question. I have still six months toshiba warranty on my A300-1ED. Notebook is very good. Never fail. But it lacks in performance so i want to upgrade my PDC T2390 to some C2D class processor.
Tell me truth what model of C2D my A300-1ED will run (mainboard and bios)? T7500? T5750? What FSB frequency? 667 or 800?

Anyone do this before?

Thanks for all advice!!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1ED - CPU upgrade from PDC to C2D

First of all you would lose the warranty if you would disassemble the notebook!
This should be clear for you.

Secondly there is no warranty that your notebook would run properly and stable after such CPU upgrade.
I?m thinking about compatibility issues between CPU and BIOS since BIOS was not pretested with other CPUs.

However, I read some threads here about CPU upgrade and some users done this?
Seems that some notebooks run without any big problems after CPU upgrade but I think this is not regular for all series?

Maybe this topic could be useful:

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1G3, recently I had issues with my laptop in which the laptop all of sudden stops working, when I checked the forum, I have been advised to clean the cooling system, which I did and everything is now ok; recently I have noticed that CPU fan stops momentary, then backs to work, is that ok?

If not, what should I do, should I replace the CPU fan? Or what?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G3 - question about CPU Fan

As far as I know CPU fun runs automatically and it will run when necessary so this fan behaviour is nothing unusual.

If your notebook works well and, after cleaning, you didn?t notice any shut down anymore I think everything is OK.

How this will affect battery consumption?

Answer:Satellite A300 - CPU & GPU upgrade questions

Satellite A300 is newest notebook model and I am wondering you think about such hardware upgrade after so short time of use.
Generally speaking such upgrades are probably possible but definitely not supported by Toshiba.
On other way such radical upgrade like display upgrade is definitely not logic to me. You probably know how expensive such parts are.

In my opinion you should sold your notebook and buy new one with exact hardware like you want to have.

What to say about last question? Please check all settings in system settings and be sure you have chosen right option when notebook is on battery or plugged in.

According notebook specification you can upgrade RAM up to 8GB.
You must use DDR2 800MHz 1GB/2GB/4GB RAMs. If you have 2x2GB at the moment you can buy additional 4GB RAM or maybe two of them to use maximum RAM.

Compatible 4 GB RAM module has part number PA3670U-1M4G.

Win7 drivers download page you can find under
Unfortunately drivers for your PSAGCE models are not available at the moment. I am pretty sure the drivers will be ready for download next days. From time to time check this page and you will see when the drivers will be there.

Storage capacities supported for your notebook model are 120, 160, 200, 250, 300, 320, 400,500 GB.

Just be sure you will order SATA HDD.

I purchased a Toshiba A 300 in May so I am not eligible for a free upgrade. I have these questions that I wasn't able to answer after extensive trips to the Toshiba and Microsoft websites:

I assume that if I purchase the Windows 7 and install it (clean install) I would lose the ability to use some of the Toshiba functionality and the recovery partition functionality which is based on Vista for my machine.

I'd be happy to pay for an installation CD from Toshiba that would create a clean install of Windows 7 on my machine with the original Toshiba software as well as create recovery partitions.
I just haven't found any mention of it anywhere. It all about the "free upgrade" which I don't qualify for by virtue of one month. Can anyone out there point me in the right direction?

Many thanks,

Answer:Windows 7 Upgrade on Satellite A300

Hello Dave

Your notebook is delivered with preinstalled Vista. Vista recovery image is saved on second partition in folder called ?HDDRecovery? and there is no some kind of ?special hidden recovery partition?.
You can install Vista on your notebook so often you want and after fresh Vista installation you will have ?factory settings?.
You can install Vista from HDD using F8 and ?repair my computer ?option or you can install Vista using installations DVD. This DVD must be created by you using preinstalled "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator". Please create this disc; maybe twice to be sure you will not lose it. After creating this DVD you can do with your notebook whatever you want. You can delete whole content and ?kill? all partitions. Using created DVDs you can have everything as before.

So now you can install new OS. I agree with you and best way to install Win7 is clean OS installation using Microsoft installations DVD. When Win7 support starts all Toshiba drivers and Toshiba specific tools and utilities will be offer for download. All this Toshiba stuff you can install alone and you don't need Toshiba Win7 recovery media.

If you have more questions let me know.

And most important, have you unpacked the BIOS files, after downloading? If not, do that and try it again.

BIOS update version depends on what operating system you are using. I guess you have WinXP installed if you use version 2.70. For Windows Vista you should use version 1.30.

This depends on the chipset which is installed in your notebook.

The notebook with the Intel GM965 chipset supports max 4GB RAM but the A300 with the Intel GL960 supports max 2GB RAM.

So check your chipset and you will known if theRAM can be upgraded up to 3GB or 4GB.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-1MM laptop.
It is running Windows Vista that came preinstalled.
Can I upgrade it to Windows 8?
Thanks for advice.

Answer:Satellite A300-1MM - Can I upgrade to Windows 8?

Generally speaking your old A300 is not supported for Wn8. It is supported for Win7 only. Not even A500 is supported for Win8 upgrade.
I have it too but running with Win7 32bit and I?m very happy with it.

As far as I know Vista to Win8 upgrade is not supported so what you can try is to install Win7 and install upgrade for Win8. With drivers and especially with Toshiba specific tools and utilities can be a bit problematic but you can try to use stuff offered for newer notebook model.

Unfortunately on this forum we don't have much information about such upgrade.
If you will try to install Win8 please post some feedback.

Good old A300. I had it 2 years ago. It is very good old machine and it runs very well with Win7.
I don’t know how many RAM you can use with it but I think from 4 up to 8GB should not be problematic. SSD is very good solution. Your A300 will run pretty fast and much faster than before.
I can recommend you Toshiba or Samsung SSDs. I’ve tested both models on different machines.

Sorry for mistakes, english is not my native language.
I want to ask a couple of questions about upgrading a300-144.

*Some info first.*

CPU: T2370 ([]).
Chipset: GM965 ([]).

1. My notebook memory frequency is 533 MHz, memory controller supports 667MHz, memory modules can work at 667MHz. Is this because CPU FSB frequency 533 MHz and new CPU with 667/800 MHz FSB will fix it or this is hardcoded in BIOS?

2. Intel says that max memory size for my chipset is 4 GB (2x2 GB), but Toshiba says that only 2 GB (2x1 GB), who is right?

3. As I know, socket of my CPU is μFCPGA-478 aka socket P, max FSB 800 MHz, max TDP 35 W, so will T9500 ([]) be compatible processor or there are some limitations in BIOS?

Answer:Few questions about upgrade on Satellite A300-144

>1. My notebook memory frequency is 533 MHz, memory controller supports 667MHz, memory modules can work at 667MHz. Is this because CPU FSB frequency 533 MHz and new CPU with 667/800 MHz FSB will fix it or this is hardcoded in BIOS?

The speed of the memory is related on hardware. This means that FSB is responsible for the limitation.
If FSB would allow support 667MHz then the memory would run also at this speed.

>2. Intel says that max memory size for my chipset is 4 GB (2x2 GB), but Toshiba says that only 2 GB (2x1 GB), who is right?
The memory depends on chipset. So if chipset supports the 4GB RAM, you should be able to upgrade this to 4GB RAM

>3. As I know, socket of my CPU is ?FCPGA-478 aka socket P, max FSB 800 MHz, max TDP 35 W, so will T9500 ( be compatible processor or there are some limitations in BIOS?

It could be possible that the new CPU would not be fully supported by BIOS but in most cases it should not be a problem if the chipset would support the new CPU.
But as far as I know the CPU upgrade is not supported by Toshiba or any other notebook manufacturers and its your own risk to run notebook with new CPU.

I would really appreciate some help as I am going around in circles. I have a Satellite Pro A300-1C2 and I want to replace the HDD and install Windows 7, whats the best HDD I can get for the laptop?

Also what's the maxium RAM I can install into the Laptop.

Any advice would be great the machines running poorly at the moment and I think the HDD has a bad sector in it.

Answer:Satellite Pro A300-1C2 - HDD upgrade advice

Best HDD? For this question I don?t have precise answer. You don?t need best but compatible HDD. According notebook specification your original HDD was 250GB SATA HDD.
In my A300 I have Samsung HDD inside. Visit your local dealer and buy high quality SATA 2,5? HDD with 300 or maybe 400 GB. It will be enough capacity I think. It can be Toshiba, Samsung or Hitachi HDD. Check the prices and make decision.

RAM upgrade: your notebook can handle with 4GB RAM. not more than that. If you have 2 GB inside you can buy one more RAM module with 2GB. Compatible 2GB RAM has part number PA3513U-1M2G.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300-15B, purchased almost 2 months age. I have created a recovery DVD using Toshiba Recovery DVD Creator as mentioned in the manual. The question is, I have created this DVD 2 months upon purchasing and I used the notebook for this period. Would my recovery disc be the same as a recovery disc created just after purchasing?

My recovery disc's content does not include any setup that I can see which makes me think that I might have created a wrong one. Can I use this disc for re-installing Vista assuming that I am now using Windows XP?

And how many recovery discs are required for this model of Toshiba? I only have one.

Thanks for your time and consideration.

Kind regards..

Answer:Question about recovery DVD for Satellite A300-15B

>Would my recovery disc be the same as a recovery disc created just after purchasing?
The recovery image is always the same. When you use it the notebook will always have the same configuration, the same you got after switching it for the first time.

>My recovery disc's content does not include any setup that I can see which makes me think that I might have created a wrong one. Can I use this disc for re-installing Vista assuming that I am now using Windows XP?
There is no setup.exe because the installation cannot be started under running OS or in some kind of DOS mode. Just put recovery disc into optical disc drive, start your notebook, press F12, choose CD/DVD drive there, press ENTER and follow the menu on the screen. You can use now what you want. after using recovery DVD you will have ?factory settings? again, the same you got after switching it for the first time.

>How many recovery discs are required for this model of Toshiba?
This question is understandable for me. Generally it depends on media you use for creating recovery media. Just follow the instructions in ?Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator?. It can be that you need two DVD-R medias.

Do you have more questions?

My laptop needs restoring as it wont let me go onto windows or anything i have the discs ready. But this model has two hard drives built in and all the stuff i want to keep is stored on the second hard drive if i reinstall windows will everything on the second hard drive be deleted as well?

Im not bothered whats on the main hard drive but want everything on the second hard drive.

If it does deleted everything what about if i take the second hard drive out then reinstall windows then plug it back in what would happen then?

Answer:Question about recovering Satellite A300

Second HDD will not be affected. All data saved there will not be deleted.

If you want you can remove second HDD and after OS installation you can put it back. There is no problem but you must not do this.

Yes, you can do this!
If the HDD has been recognized by BIOS then you should boot from Toshiba recovery disk in order to reinstall the OS which was preinstalled by Toshiba.

in the recent c't Magazin (germany) there was a very good article about replacing the wlan card with a newer 11n(draft) 300Mbit Card. They said it would require your notebook to have the card accesible (it is) and to have two antennas (it has). 11n can or does use three but it does not require all three.

The mag said, some manufactures prohibit this and present you an bios error if you replace the card, some dont and even provide help and instructions.

So my questions are:

1. Does Toshiba allow me to change the card or do you have to use "tricks"?
2. Does Toshiba offer some original parts to upgrade or do you have to use third party parts?

Thanks for any adivce or help!

Answer:Upgrade WLAN card 11g to 11n on Satellite Pro A300-15U possible?

That?s not so easy.

Look on the notebook bottom side. There is a label and there you should see that WLAN card is built in.
If the card has A/G or B/G standard, then the notebook does not support the N standard because for the new N standard you need 3 antenna cables and the old standard has only 2 antennas.

I hope I could help you a little bit.

I decided to upgrade my old Toshiba Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E-00700TTE Vista to Windows 8.

After two trials it was succesful. Vista was driving me crazy and when I decided to give to my son, I wanted it to function better.

Toshiba does not seem to be willing to give support to the older models. (older than 3 years.)

I can't even find this model code in the lists, the website does not seem to recognize the serial number.

Therefore all the tools provided for Windows 8 upgrade are irrelevant.

I have come accross with some minor problems before, but Toshiba Turkey never responded the messages, even the ones concerning new products when I considered buying a new notebook. At the end I went for an Asus, which outdid my expectations.

I don't expect any support this time either, due to the past experience. But I still want to try one last time.

Is there a way to get the hardware in this notebook work under Windows 8?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9E - Win 8 upgrade issues

>Is there a way to get the hardware in this notebook work under Windows 8?

Satellite Pro A300 is not Win 8 supported? this means that you will not find Win 8 drivers for this series? but of course you can use Win 8 on this unit.

In some cases the common Win 7 drivers would be compatible.

Also the Toshiba tools like VAP (value added package) for Win 8 can be used but you have to look for a Win 8 VAP released for other newer models.

Touchpad driver can be downloaded from Synaptics driver page? also other drivers like LAN or WLan can be found on chip manufacturer pages.

I bought my A300 with Windows Vista on board, afterwards I was provided with Windows 7 upgrade DVD.
Unfortunately I have lost the disc and as far as I know even if I use Toshiba recovery solution I will be back to Windows Vista. Is there any option to request the Wind 7 delivery or I have to buy the new one ?

Thank you in advance!

Answer:Satellite A300: Missing DVD with windows 7 upgrade

As far as I know this was special offer from Toshiba when Win7 was launched. I think you cannot order it anymore.
What you can do now is to buy original Microsoft Win7 installation disc and install clean Win7 version on your A300. I have the same machine and Win7 runs perfectly on it. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page.

I have the Toshiba Satellite A300-1G5 which has the Intel GM965 Chipset. The Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG Network Connection was preinstalled in it.

Currently I want to upgrade it to the Intel N wifi 5300 wirelss card. Is it possible to do this?
As I am not sure whether the motherboard is compatible with it.
If yes, Is there any guide on how to do it?

Answer:Satellite A300-1G5 - Can I upgrade it to WiFi draft N?

It?s not possible to upgrade the notebook to draft N only with a new WiFi card.

Draft N uses 3 antennas and all older standards uses 2 antennas. So your notebook has only 2 antennas and so it?s not possible to use draft N.
You can install an WiFi card with draft N but it will not work with draft N.

I hope I could help you a little bit.

I bought Toshiba Satellite A300-24X notebook WITHOUT preinstalled operating system.

I'm running Linux and I want to upgrade my BIOS from version 1.8 to 1.9 via some DOS/FreeDOS utility.

The main problem is what the BIOS flash utility running only under Windows OS.

Why Toshiba do not provide DOS flash utility for people who bought notebook without Windows OS and want/need to upgrade BIOS without buying/installing Windows OS only for these purposes???

Is it possible to upgrade my BIOS (Insyde H2O) with some DOS flasher?

Answer:BIOS (Insyde H20) upgrade from DOS - Satellite A300-24X

You could update the BIOS using the floppy disk but you would need a traditional BIOS update.
But fact is that ONLY Win-based BIOS is available on the Toshiba page and it can be updated only running a Windows OS.

But as far as I know the local ASP (authorized service partner) in your country could update the BIOS using a floppy disk.

So if you need the BIOS update and don?t have installed Microsoft Windows OS then you would need to contact the ASP guys.

I have Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW with BIOS 3.5 version. Can I make upgrade it to 1.7 version which i will download from Toshiba site?
Whay i want to do this?
Because I have a lot of problems with this notebook. For example:

1) Slow system loading on Compatibility mode
2) When I will set AHCI mode and install SATA drivers then loading is faster but I have problems with Critical Error

I don't know what to do :/ Maybe I have bad drivers (it is not possible because all drivers are from Toshiba site) or maybe I didn't install some drivers (there are a lot of drivers on Toshiba site, I didn't download and install all of them)

Can someone write the list of drivers which i need to install?

Thanks in advane and have a nice day.

Answer:BIOS Upgrade on Toshiba Satellite A300-1MW

Hello Tralla

As I can see you have already posted one thread with the same question and I am wondering you ask the same again.

You have these ?problems? because you didn?t install WXP properly. If you want to have well preinstalled WXP and use it with full speed use AHCI settings in BIOS and load WXP with all SATA drivers.
After doing this notebook will run fast, you will not have problems and BIOS update must not be done at all.
This theme is discussed very often on this forum and please take a little bit time and check this forum about WXP installation using SATA driver.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Downgrade question from Vista to XP

> 1. after I install the XP, can I put back the ACHI mode ? does give me a better performance (I really dont know what is ACHI!)
No, you can?t change to *AHCI* back if you have installed Windows XP in compatible mode.
Some users have reported that the AHCI mode is faster then the compatible mode. I don?t have a comparison between these modes because I always used the AHCI mode.
This option is available on all notebooks with SATA HDD.

> 2. will this void my warranty ?
No! You can set the AHCI or compatible but nothing affects the warranty of the notebook.

> 3. If i had a problem, XP installing failed for some reason and no OS on my laptop , will still be able to use the recovery DVD to restore my laptop?
Yes, you can restore your notebook with the recovery disk. The Toshiba recovery disk contains an image of the ?factory settings?. That means the preinstalled Windows Vista with all drivers and tools or let?s say the same settings as you have started the notebook the first time. You can use the recovery disk every time. You must only boot from it and follow the screen instructions.

About your question to the drivers I can only say I assume that some software applications like DVD player are only designed for Vista. These are only applications and not necessary. The notebook is delivered and designed for Vista and so you will not find all applications.
I have checked the Toshiba website and there I have founded all necessary drivers and to... Read more

The beautiful graphic which appears using the FN buttons belongs to the Toshiba Vista FlashCard utility!
According to the name it?s a Vista tool and can be used _ONLY_ on Vista OS.

Windows XP supports the FN button functionality too.
Everything is the same but the icons and the graphic which appears using one of the FN function is different.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on possibly upgrading my new [Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9C-01500Y| art=8813#spectop] to a different model.

I do not use this system for gaming or anything like that, mostly Office 2007, web browsing, media and programs like Photoshop and Dreamweaver. Nothing too high end.

My model has 800MHz, but after looking at a few different models I see that for $100 or so I can get a higher FSB speed (1066MHz) Like the model [PSAG9C-01J00Y| art=9131#spectop] which has a little faster CPU as well.

One of the things I have noticed as well is the max Ram for my system is 8GB and most others are only 4GB. I will not be using 64 bit windows, so it doesn't matter anyway.

I would mainly like to know if it is worth worrying about the FSB. I understand how FSB works and what it does, I am just not sure if i need to worry about it.

Any advice or suggestions are most welcome.

Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite Pro A300 PSAG9C-01500Y - FSB question

In your case the FSB speed is not really important if you want to use your notebook only for Office 2007, web browsing or webdesign.
The higher FSB is useful if you want to use high performance memory modules with higher speed?.
For example; you?ve got FSB of 533Mhz and memory modules of 800Mhz? the inserted memory modules would NOT run at 800Mhz because the lower FSB would slow down the memory speed.

But as I said a higher FSB is not really important if you don?t use the notebook for high-end gaming?.

Hi ,

i have a question about the standards temperature that is ok for my notebook and what is the normal temperature and how can i keep it low ?

Answer:Question about Satellite A300 ND1 internal temperature

It?s not easy to say what a ?normal temperature? could be.
The temperature is not always the same and it depends on the notebook usage.
Usually the temperature would increase while gaming or while running high performance applications. Why? Because all devices like CPU and GPU would create mire heat dissipation and this leads to a higher temperature.

> how can i keep it low
This is very simply? you cannot keep it always on low level but you can ensure that there is enough free space around the notebook to guarantee a good air circulation.
Furthermore don?t use the notebook on knees etc? in order not to clog the cooling ventilators.

It?s also advisable to clean the ventilators from time to time using the compressed air spray. Such sprays are really helpful and you could buy it in different computer stores.

Hi to everyone,

I bought an A300-149 with pre-installed Vista.
A friend of mine told me, the partition that was used to install Vista is not useful anymore, it consumes space from my HDD, so I deleted the partition, and rearranged the partitions as I was going to use them.

I just found out it was a big mistake to do so, because the partition contained all the drivers and the Vista with the license key.
Do I lose the license of my Windows if I will have to eventually reinstall it? (I have the label on the bottom of the computer with the key...)
Can't I download the content of that partition (in the form of an ISO) from somewhere this site? (and use the key from the label, like it is usually done with software)

I payed for this operating I don't get it why haven't I received a DVD with the software? (When I opened the box, I was looking for the DVD and I was wandering why is it missing...)
It is frustrating...

Waiting your answers,

Answer:Satellite A300 - question about Vista License Key

The disc is not bundled in the box anymore. The Recovery Disc needs to be created after the laptop is purchased.

The Vista License that comes with the laptop is a Toshiba OEM license, so you cannot use that license with a retail/downloaded version of Vista.

Your best option would be to purchase a replacement Recovery Disc from Toshiba
You can order the disc from here:

A Friend of mine got an Toshiba Satellite A300-1L0 Notebook with broken Display.
On Ebay he has the Chance to get a Toshiba A300-1HP Notebook, which is optically identical to his Notebook and regarding to the product Sheet of Toshiba has nearly the same technical Specs exept of Core 2 duo Model, ATI HD 3xxx Model and HDD Size, as far as i can judge. The Display has the same specs on the Product Sheet.

Further on ebay, there are Displays sold "universal" for Sattellite A300 - meaning if you type in "Satellite A300 Display" you dont have to specify which A300 model you've got.

What do you mean?
Are The Displays at least "Pin Compatible" or why should an ingenieur / Engineer use a different Pin layout on the Same Notebook Casing?
Does the A300 have the same mainboards futher?

Thank you !!!

Answer:Satellite A300-1L0 - Display compatibility question

I guess all displays released for an Satellite A300 series should be compatible with the single Satellite A300 model.
All Satellite A300 notebooks was equipped with an 15,4 " TFT display panel and this is most important fact. You have to use such 15,4 " TFT display panel.

The resolution can be different and this will not affect the display compatibility since the graphic card is able to support different resolutions.

What do you mean exactly by "bad sound quality"?
Is it too low or what?

The A300-15D seems to belong to the PSAJ4E series.
The Conexant audio driver for Win XP and vista is available on the Toshiba European driver page.

I've got the same sound chip in my notebook and the sound is ok... I have also noticed that I've got a SmartAudio in the control panel.
This seems to be a additional tool to improve the sound quality.

I bought a Satellite Pro A300 which came with Windows Vista pre-installed on it. I was offered a Windows 7 Uprgrade for ?30 by Toshiba which I purchased and received 2 discs:

1) Windows 7 Upgrade disc
2) Toshiba Win7 Drivers Upgrade disc

I have upgraded successfully however the Toshiba Drivers disc does not list my notebook model. I tried installing the drivers on the disc for OEM software such as the web cam drivers (which are unavailable online) but they're not working. Also now my DVD drive won't open and I can't view the disc contents??

Can someone advise who I get in touch with about getting a suitable disc for my model notebook?

Answer:Satellite Pro A300: Win 7 Upgrade DVD does not list my notebook model

What notebook model do you have?

Did you try to choose another model instead of your notebook model?
Do this!

I read about similar question here in the forum and the user could solve this choosing another notebook model number.

By the way; all Win7 drivers can be downloaded from the Toshiba European driver page:

I got 2 problems with Toshiba tools on my Satellite A300-15B (Vista)

1. The alert reminding me to register my computer appears at every system startup, and i have already registered my computer some time ago...
I tried to turn off the alert, but once i used an option of turning off registration alerts, it turned gray and nothing changed. What should i do to get rid of this alert? :)

2. Toshiba Tempro reminds me of upgrading firmware of DVD-ROM. But i can't find if my version should be upgraded... The readme file wants me to check if i got "TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-1632H (TO02)", "TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-1632H (TO01)" or "TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-1632H (TO03)" ... But i got "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA T-40N (JT03)". Maybe i've done something wrong...

I'd be glad if someone answered my questions. :)

Answer:Firmware upgrade & Registration alerts on Satellite A300-15B

Regarding the point;

1) This alert can be disabled very easily in ?MSCONFIG?.
Use the command msconfig to start the system configuration tool. In the tab called ?system start? (it?s a second last) provides a list of applications which loads automatically when Vista is loading.
There you could try to disable (unmark) the application which is responsible for such alerts.

2) Tempo alerts always if a new drivers was released on the Toshiba page.
The point is that many different notebook series were equipped with different CD/DVD drives. So possibly the firmware is not available for your drive and the update is not needed?. Anyway; my recommendation is; never change a running system and don?t updates anything if it?s really not necessary ;)

HI all,

i have with me toshiba Satellite A300 notepad.
Bought from UAE. I just upgraded my pc to windows 7 and it seems to have effected my battery life, i guess.

Anybody has idea about hw long the battery last , i mean hours.

Now i can use it only for nearley 30 min... Some blog answered me of updateing the bios.

Is that realley the reason or is the problem of windows 7,or with my battery, experts please advise.

Many thanks,arundev vb

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - short battery life after upgrade to Win 7

I?m not sure if the BIOS update would help you but if the new BIOS is available for you notebook series, then it?s worth to update it.

But you should also check the Win 7 power management settings.
Please check this Toshiba HowTo:

It?s about vista but Vista power management is very similar to Win 7.

There you should change the options to ?more battery friendly?.
Check this!

I can't find the way to upgrade the graphic "Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family" on Toshiba satellite A300-1J1 :
- all downloaded drivers show a error message which explain that the computer is not fit ;
- Intel website told me it's a specific driver they can't give but I have to find it on the constructor website ;
- Toshiba website can't offer me only an old version of driver (2008) & can't show the model (satellite A300-1J1) in the list of Labtop.

So, how can I update the driver of the graphic Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family on my satellite A300-1J1 ?

I have already upgraded a lot of computers but here I waste many hours without find a solution... :-(

NB : I need to update this driver in order to to use OpenGl.

Answer:How to upgrade Mobile Intel 965 driver on Satellite A300-1J1?

The latest driver for the [Mobile Intel? 965 Express Chipset Family| ProductLine=Laptop+graphics+drivers&ProductProduct =Mobile+Intel%C2%AE+965+Express+Chipset+Family] can be downloaded from the Intel page.

But to install such driver, you have to use the advanced installation procedure.
Download the ZIP package containing the latest driver.

Then go to device manager and choose the graphic card. Now click on the driver update button

As I said above, you need to choose the ?Advanced? installation procedure which allows you to point to the driver folder you have downloaded from Intel page.
The system should pick up the driver files and the driver should be updated.

Does anyone know where I can upgrade my Toshiba A300 PSAG8C-02W13 Motherboard? This is the worst laptop I have ever thought of getting!

The graphics card is terrible and cant play any game! I mean what is this im wasting my money on this garbage so you guys can convince me to buy another motherboard for this garbage! I never even knew they put this stuff in a laptop!

Can someone tell me where and how I can upgrade my laptop!? Its funny how the only reason I am upgrading this is because of the terrible graphics card!

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 (PSAG8C-02W13) - Can I upgrade the motherboard?

You cannot upgrade the Mainboard in laptops due to their custom design.

Unfortunately you chose a laptop with an Intel Graphics Chip, which is designed for business use, not gaming.

You would need to sell this laptop and purchase another model with an ATI or nVidia graphics card.
The A350 has an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3470 which is designed for games.

I was trying to upgrade the BIOS after reading an alert from TOSHIBA TEMPRO, after some time, it didn't seem to launch so I ran it a second time, then both BIOS application showed up in the taskbar only and it froze while I didn't start upgrading or anything, I had to power off.

I tried to reboot but now, it just stays on black screen ( the monitor isn't even powered, as if the system wasn't running ), all leds are powered with the "accessing hard disk" flashing, the led from the DVD reader keeps on flashing while making a noise every 3 seconds or so.

I've read on the forum that there may be no solutions but to take it to an authorized service provider, but I'm willing to take any possible solution before doing it.

Thanks for any advice.

I need an advice. I've just took a 1GB memory (Samsung) module from older model Satellite A200 and put it to my newer model Satellite Pro A300. The following is the information about SPDs:

_Original one (that was installed on factory):_

DIMM1: Kingston (2 GB DDR2-667 DDR2 SDRAM)

@ 200 MHz 3-3-3-9 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 12-26-2-3-2-2 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

_From old Toshiba Satellite A200:_

DIMM3: Samsung M4 70T2953EZ3-CE6
Manufacture Date Week 42 / 2007
@ 333 MHz 5-5-5-15 (CL-RCD-RP-RAS) / 20-35-3-5-3-3 (RC-RFC-RRD-WR-WTR-RTP)

I would like to know if I install Xp erasing all the partitions in my hd (now I have three, two normal and one not showed).
Does the recovery disk Toshiba create again the original partitions and install over it the Windows Vista?

I am spanish, but I can read in English.

Thank you very much.

Answer:Re: Satellite A300 - Question about format. XP. Reinstall Vista.

Before I start to explain how it works I must say follow: before you do anything CREATE recovery DVD using Toshiba recovery disc creator. Don't forget it.
Using this DVD you will be able to install Vista and have ?factory settings? again.

When you start WXP installation all three partitions will be listed and you can choose destination for WXP installation. If you choose partition C other two will not be deleted.
Later, when you want to install Vista using created recovery DVD whole HDD will be deleted and formatted.

Those processes are quite important and don't really decrease the performance of the system.

If you want to improve the performance, installing more RAM or upgrading to an SSD Drive and using an efficient Virus Scanner will have the most impact.

I just bought a Satellite A300 with following details:

Satellite A300/Y00 model (exclusive to Dikc Smith Electronics in Australia)
2.1Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo T8100
2Gb RAM DDR2 (667MHz)
Intel Graphics X3100 (GM965)
MS Windows Vista Business pre installed
MS WIndows XP downgrade recovery media for A300 on disc

I have basically just turned it on and set everything up, nothing done on it yet, not even any other software installed.
I have immediately made 2 copies of the product recovery media for Vista. So both XP and Vista discs should have all drivers on them.

I want to install a particular software (for programming of electronic parts) but the company says it is not yet fully compatible with Vista. Thus I wish to downgrade to XP and use that for 6 to 12 months, then later on POSSIBLY revert back to Vista.

Now, the information provided by Toshiba is limited with respect to downgrading to XP. (And there is absolutely nothing about reverting back to Vista.)
The documentation provided shows four options when downgrading:
1) Recover to out-of-box-state,
2) Recover to the Windows only state,
3) Recover without changing the hard drive partitions,
4) Recover to a custom size partition. It then goes on to say "Please do not select 'Recover without changing the hard drive partitions' as a recovery method. Windows XP cannot be used by the partition composition of Windows Vista".

Answer:Satellite A300 PSAG0A: Vista to XP downgrade question

Hi Robert

I don?t have the A300 Satellite and I don?t have a Australian notebook but I?m an owner of another Satellite European model with preinstalled Vista OS!
Anyway, I would like to share my experience with Vista and XP and of course with the recovery procedure on E?

First of all I have noticed that newer notebook series are not delivered with the Toshiba recovery CD but the recovery image is store on the HDD and you could create and burn the image the own DVD.
Seems you have already done it.

As you already suggested the Vista supports 2 different partitions. One partition is the system partition and the other, smaller, hidden partition was created for the Vista backup files. So if something will go wrong with your Vista OS, you could use the Vista repair function to repair the OS. In such case the small, hidden backup partitions in needed.

I like Xp too and therefore I have installed it on my notebook. I didn?t format the HDD but installed the XP on a new created partition.
You can create a partition in Vista?s disk management.
Anyway, I?ve got a dual boot OS now and I can use Vista and XP.

Regarding the usage of the Vista recovery DVD;
If you would like to go back to Vista, you will need to boot from the Toshiba Recovery CD and the Vista installation procedure should start.
But you should know that the Vista Recovery CD would format the whole HDD.
So it would erase the partitions and would delete the stored data.
Therefore you should backup you... Read more

Hello to everybody,

I'm italian, I've a Satellite A300 with Vista Home Premium, I payed 30 euros for the free upgrade to Windows 7 that reached my house yesterday. I received 2 DVDs:
- 1 to "make ready" my laptop : *TOSHIBA UPGRADE DVD*
- 1 to upgrade the O.S. : *WINDOWS 7 HOME PREMIUM UPGRADE DVD*

+The first step:+ to use the first DVD: all right, "the system is ready to install Windows 7, please insert the second dvd". When I insert the second one, I accept the license and after that, the first step of istallation: *"system compatibility check"*
*This steps is my problem.*

I restated more than 10 times the praxis but it jams at that step, I left laptop at this step all night long but today morning it was still there, no advances, it's obvious that there's a problem, but I cannot understand if it depends on my laptop or on the DVD.

I tried to start the laptop with Windows 7 DVD inside, the system start by the DVD but it ask me to format the partition in which are vista files and this is not an upgrade. I bought an upgrade just to not delete previous programs and to not format the first partition of my laptop's disk.

How to do, whom can i turn to?
Does anyone have the same problem?
Does anyone know an escape?

I'm getting frustrated so I've come here to see if anyone knows a way to help resolve this issue.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A300 which came with Windows Vista 64-bit pre-installed. After about a year or so of having the laptop, I decided to upgrade to Windows 7 64-bit. In the process, I believe the driver to my webcam (Chicony usb 2.0 camera) was deleted.

When I go into devices manager in the control panel, the webcam isn't listed; neither is "imaging devices."

I have tried downloading the driver manually, but I keep getting an error message, "Webcam open fail. Restart camera or computer."

My computer has listed my webcam as "unknown device."

If anyone knows how to fix this, please, I beg you, let me know.

Answer:Satellite A300 - Chicony webcam not working after windows 7 upgrade

> My computer has listed my webcam as "unknown device."
> I have tried downloading the driver manually, but I keep getting an error message, "Webcam open fail. Restart camera or computer."

This means that the webcam driver is not installed properly.
Visit the Toshiba European driver page and install the right webcam software/driver for this notebook model.

If the installation fails, restart the notebook and tries again.
This should solve the issue.

The 9600m gt uses 20 watts and the 3650 uses 35 watts so I have been told but am not sure about the 3470 on how much watts it uses.

The card reader on a notebook can?t be upgraded. As far as I know it?s soldered on the mainboard and so it?s not possible to exchange it with another model.

So if you want to read cards they are not supported from the internal card reader you have to buy an external reader. I have also such an external card reader from Kingston. It was very cheap and can read all available cards.

In my opinion you should create recovery disc before you upgrade it to Win7. I have done the same.
Later if something goes wrong you can use your discs and install Vista again using created recovery discs.

I don't understand why you want to wait and create these discs after upgrade. This recovery disc creator doesn?t create recovery image of current state but always the same recovery image you got with your notebook.

Tempro should work in Win7 too.

Hmm?. As far as I know you cannot use an second HDD in this notebook.
There could be an second HDD bay but this would not mean that an usage of second HDD would be possible.

If you want you could remove the cover secured the second HDD bay and could check if connectors are available.

If not then you cannot connect and use the second HDD.

Why does the Satellite A300-1EC stand dearer as Satellite A300-1EG, but on configuration loses him?

What is their substantial distinction in?
What model of notebook can advise, in this price range?

Answer:What is the difference between Satellite A300-1EC & Satellite A300-1EG

Satellite A300-1EC belongs to PSAG0E group and Satellite A300-1EC to PSAG4E. When this model numbers are different that means they don't have the same hardware configuration.

The first one has Intel 965GM (Crestline) graphic controller. The second one has ATI M82XT (256MB). The HDD capacity is not the same. The first one has 160 GB HDD and second one 250 GB.

So that is the difference between these A300 notebooks.

In my opinion the second one is better. You must make your decision and choose the right one.

At the moment I am here in France and I am planning to buy a Satellite Pro A300 with an AZERTY keyboard (which is not exactly a problem for me at the moment). The problem will begin when I come back to my country where the keyboard layout is QWERTY. I plan to sell the laptop when I get back (I don't like hanging on to a laptop for a very long time). The thing is the Satellite A300 is officially sold in my country but not the Satellite Pro A300. I am now wondering if the keyboard for the A300 is compatible with the Pro A300 (looking at the forum threads for older models suggest that they are compatible but I am not completely sure).

Can anyone provide a definitive answer to this compatibility question?

Answer:Are the keyboards of Satellite Pro A300 and Satellite A300 the same?

The keyboard button layout doesn?t depend from the Satellite Pro or Satellite series but from the country where the notebook has been purchased.

Different countries need different keyboard button layouts and therefore the buttons are assigned to different positions on the keyboard.

But the keyboard itself could be used in Sat Pro or Satellite notebook too.
