Preferred Solution: Satellite A200 - BIOS update fail

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A200 - BIOS update fail

That?s really bad but in this case you can?t do anything.

You should go to a local ASP. Maybe they can recovery the BIOS and in worst case the mainbaord must be exchanged.
On the Toshiba website you can search for an authorized service provider.

Well, I have used the BIOS updater listed on the drivers/bios updates section of Toshiba website, on Windows vista x64 and offcourse I have used the x64 executable.
Strangely, when I reboot it, it requests a bios password that I have never inserted. So I suppose the update inserted a password automatically. Now I can't boot from any device so I cant use the laptop.

What do you have to say about this?

Answer:After Vista x64 BIOS update Satellite A200-1KB PSAE6 requests BIOS password

Hello MC

Have you founded some answers? Nobody offered here real explanation what can be wrong there. Have you maybe contacted authorized service partner in your country. They have contact with Toshiba and I am pretty sure they can help you about that.

If you will find out something regarding this password issue please let us know.

I have used the Toshiba support download page to identify my model A205-S4629 Satellite laptop and downloaded the following BIOS update utility sa200f0v520.exe.

After building the IOS install disk and running the Phoenix Phlash16 utility I get the following message "File has different BIOS part number".

The utility is using the following image file MW10M520.ROM.

Any input is appreciated,

As far as I know the BIOS package downloaded from the Toshiba US driver page contains the WinRAR 32-bit self-extracting ZIP file which includes both Windows-based and diskette based BIOS update installation options.

Did you try to update the BIOS using Win-based BIOS?

What OS do you use?

My bios version is v2.60 date 08/28/2008.
I think this must be an old one.

As i can't find anything for A200 (toshiba supports now only A300 and then..) is there a new version?
I use Win 7 64bit and i don't have any serious problem right now.

Answer:Satellite A200-23W - Is there a new BIOS update?

>I use Win 7 64bit and i don't have any serious problem right now.
So why do you need to update the BIOS?
I would update the BIOS ONLY if my notebook would not run stable or would develop some problems?

Furthermore the A200 is an older notebook series and the drivers and other updates can be found in the Archive area on the Toshiba European driver page?
To get this listed you have to choose Archive in the first option (in driver download form) called Product Type

Where I can find BIOS update for this notebook for Windows XP?

Answer:Satellite A200-23U - Need Bios update for XP

Seems that Toshiba European driver page provides a BIOS only for the Vista OS and the BISO for XP is not available or does not exist.

Did you try to install XP without the BIOS update?

I think this should be possible and therefore the BIOS update would be not necessary at this time.

Your computer encountered a problem that can be caused by the computer?s basic input/output system (BIOS).

I would like to know how do I know if my Bios needs an update?

Answer:BIOS update for Satellite A200-1j3

Nice question but I don't know who should give you answer to this?
This is just user-to-user forum.

Anyway, if the A200 will be supported for Windows 7 I can imagine Toshiba will offers BIOS update. The same was for old WXP notebooks supported for Vista.

I've got A200-10W for a few years and a year and a half ago I decided to switch form Vista 64bit do Windows 7 64bit, I installed it, everything was working fine till a month ago problems started to occur.

When BIOS screen shows it sometimes freezes and sometimes takes a minute to switch to Windows 7 loading screen, I've checked the BIOS version and it's 1.40 (yeah I'm an idiot for not updating sooner), so I've decided to update BIOS but I can't find any update except 1.80 for Vista 32bit, so can anyone please help with this? =(

Sry for bar grammar

Answer:Satellite A200-10W - Need BIOS update

I ran into this issue a couple of months ago with my M200 (which I think is similar to your A200).
If there is a Vista 64bit BIOS Update, you can use that one. Otherwise just use the x86 one, it should just display an error if it's not compatible with 64bit.

this is my first time posting on the forum, hopefully someone can help me out.
I recently downloaded the latest Bios update ( for my notebook. I ran the bios setup, after completing the update it restarted my notebook, but then it went to a black screen and it won't boot up anymore.
When I press the power button only the power led comes on, the fans start spinning and the DVD-rom spins up and stops and the screen is blank.
I'm running Vista home premium 32 bit.

Can anyone provide a solution on what I can do to fix this?

Answer:Satellite A200-1SI won't boot after BIOS update

Was the system in Standby/Hibernation/Resume mode?

Its important to cold boot the system before and after a BIOS update.

You could try removing one of the RAM modules (change the RAM size) and power up, otherwise the system may need to be sent to an ASP for repair.

5.20-WIN which is not vista compatible or 1.80-WIN which is? What does compatibility in this case mean?

Not for vista = for laptops which didn?t come with preinstalled vista or laptops which are not currently running vista?

Can't this update damage my notebook?

Is this update a risk?
P.S. : I use Windows Xp SP2, not Vista.

Answer:Satellite A200-PSAE3E: What Bios update changes

You can use BIOS update without any risk and normally you can not damage your machine. Just follow the included instructions and everything will just go fine.
Didn't find a clue what exactly does this update, but those updates fixes some minor issues, add new features or improve performance.

So go ahead and give it a try. I think it doesn't matter wether XP or Vista is installed.

Hi there,

no you cannot loose any information, but in your case I would check for a NEWER BIOS version for your system because there are some threads were other users had the same problem.

A user posted that a NEWER version was released and the problem was fixed, but you must check for it here:

Otherwise it would be necessary to bring the machine to an authorized service partner. If you need a link to find the nearest one in your country:

Yesterday I tried to update the bios on my Toshiba a200 1-AD.
When I started the .exe file it gave me an error like this: Driver cannot be found. (Can't remember the exact error).

After the error appeared the update process was cancelled. Everything was still fine untill I wanted to reboot the computer. It got stuck and I had to remove the battery to shut it down(the power switch was not working).
Now it seems to be dead, when I boot the screen remains black. Also the hard disk shows some activity for 1 or 2 seconds. The DVD drive seems to be working though.

I did some research on internet and people are talking about a bios recovery jumper. I can't find if this laptop has one.

Some help would be appreciated.

Dear All,

Satellite A200-1z3

I have the same problem as many of you already discribed here. After Downgrading to Win XP I have found out that part of the functions activated by FN button do not work, eg FN+ F2 , FN+ F6, FN+F7, FN+F8, FN+F9, FN+ F12, FN+ 1, FN+ 2, FN+ TAB.

I read through this forum and found out that you can solve this problem be reinstalling BIOS. When I was trying to download BIOS from website it requires Pass and Login which I dont have. Though do you have any suggestion of do I download it from there?

If not How I can activate keboard light FN+F2 and scroll pad Lock FN+ F9 without FN button.

I have noticed Toshiba has updated BIOS versions 4 times in 4 months. So what does it mean? I want to have silent notebook back?

Answer:Satellite A200 - BIOS update and fan activity

Hi there,

did you updated your drivers and tools?? Maybe you should try this because not only the BIOS also the powersaver controls the FAN. Did you otherwise recently installed some other drivers than original toshiba drivers?

I heard from some techie that if you install display drivers from third party sites, these drivers overwrite the VIDEO Bios which is connected to the normal BIOS. This could also affect the fan behaviour.

You won?t find any older bioses on the toshiba site but if you?ve got many luck you will find it maybe on some other sites..

Or you wait till toshiba releases a new bios and maybe the loud fan would be fixed?

Hi all,

I have a 3 yo Toshiba Satellite A200-193 (PSAEC), bought in France, it was apparently not released in the US - or not under thos reference - because I can't find it in the Toshiba bios database. (I could post in a french forum but there is no such support :-/ )

The bios is a Phoenix,v1.30. This bios is known for having an inside bug, preventing unofficial and unpatched OS like linux to deal correctly with acpi (fan control in particular). The temperature is higher than it should be.

I tried to update my bios to 1.80 through the toshiba fr website, but I have and alert saying "This bios has to be used with Vista Only".
Okay, so this is purely scandalous considering specific OS instructions have NOTHING to do inside a bios, what are my options?

Has someone installed this BIOS? Did it end up correctly ?

Thanks a lot

Answer:Satellite A200-193 - BIOS update on Linux

Hi buddy,

Please don?t understand me wrong but Toshiba doesn?t provide any support for Linux. That means you have to search yourself for drivers or solutions and that?s the reason why BIOS update is only Windows Vista supported.

That means if you want to do this update you have to install the preinstalled OS from Toshiba, I think in this case Vista. Then you are able to update the BIOS.

I'm running 32bit Windows 7 on a Satellite A200 1DN. I've been having battery problems (plugged in, not charging) and I understand I need to update my BIOS. However I can't find a BIOS update for Windows 7, only Vista and XP.

Can anyone help? Should I update with the Vista BIOS? Are there any other options for solving this battery problem? I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A200-1DN - How to update BIOS for Windows 7

Theoretically, you can install Windows Vista to update Bios and return Win 7, then. Before doing, try this:

Unplug the computer from the AC adapter and turn it on. Let the computer run under battery power until the computer turns off
Remove the battery pack. Using a soft cloth, wipe off the battery packs connectors and the AC adapters connectors.
Re-insert the battery pack and plug the computer into the AC adapter

> I've already tried an ATX reset, and uninstalling the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery.

by the way, did you have the same issue before installing Win 7?

Generally speaking Toshiba doesn't support Linux and BIOS update cannot be done under Linux. All offered BIOS updates are Windows versions and can be updated under running Windows operating system.

I will try to be very short with answers:
1. If you use WXP on your notebook make BIOS update with version 5.30
2. This BIOS version is offered for days and it is possible that many people already tried it. By the way: before Toshiba release something it is tested and checked.
3. Unfortunately there is documentation about bugs and fixes but the fact is that Toshiba has designed version 5.30 to support WXP functionality on Vista designed notebook models

Answer:BIOS update failed - no display on my Satellite A200

Unfortunately, it seems only the BIOS windows version is available for this notebook model.

Anyway, I wonder why you have updated the BIOS on your notebook. Many forum users have mentioned that the BIOS update is risky!
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the notebooks motherboard ROM!

Did you follow the BIOS update guideline which is available on the Toshiba page?!
Usually all should works after the right update procedure?

You said windows stuck and needed to restart?
Well I think something went wrong during the update process and therefore the notebook doesn?t display anything!!!

This sounds not good! In my opinion you should contact the ASP in your country because after the wrong BIOS procedure only the notebook technician could save the unit!

My bios is 23/10/07 Windows Vista 32 Bit 1.80-WIN

Answer:Where can I find a BIOS update for Satellite A200-14D (PSAEC)

Did you check the Toshiba European driver page?
There you could find all drivers and BIOS for the Satellite A200-14D (PSAEC)

But I checked the page and the BIOS 1.8 for Win Vista 32bit is still the newest one.

Seems you are already up to date buddy ;)

You mean the notebook does not power up?
Is there any other reaction from the notebook?
Can you access the BIOS???

If not then it looks like something went wrong during the BIOS update procedure.
In such case you will have to contact the ASP in your country for a help.

Maybe only the ROM module must be flashed again?

I'm Going Crazy Locating A Bios Update for my A200-1AG satellite. He updated Windows 10 and Pc drivers He runs to perfection, but he is missing and above all alone he recognizes me 3 of the 4 GB that he introduced him and it is not that he reserves for the graph, which I have already checked, by placing 3 Recognizes 3 and warns me of the 3 that son usable, so the graph does not reserve anything.

What I have seen is that in Bios the maximum extended memory son 3,072 mb, AND IS A PARAMETER that can not be modified in my Bios which is a very old version (the 1.03, I think), I need to update it to the last version That is the paragraph This model, to see if in the ESA can be extended THAT Parameters, Which Results of the incongruent Search That the Maximum Memory of the model are 4gb And by Bios alone can be accepted RIGHT MAX 3GB, and Same for The drivers, in my pinion would not come badly un bond with All drivers of the last paragraph This model Or you would add compatibilities of New drivers with Old models.

Thank you very much.

Hi there,

I was hoping if someone could pls help me.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A200 (PSAFCA) .
Recently i tried updating the bios and while i was flashing the bios i forgot to plug the laptop into the power and the battery went flat half way through the flashing.

As a result the laptop now will not post when i power up and all i get is a blank screen.
I was wondering if anyone could pls advise me on how i can get the old bios back or even a method of reflashing it so i can put the bios back in so i can at least get a post to display on the screen.

Any help you provide would be greatly appreciated as i am at a loss.

Thanking you in advance

Answer:Satellite A200 (PSAFCA) does not work after triying to update BIOS

Well buddy, the notebook should be always connected to the mains while running a BIOS update! This is very important!
Now it looks like the BIOS update didn?t run and finish properly and the ROM module seems to be flashed incorrectly.

Unfortunately, there is no other solution as to contact the ASP guys and asking for the help! They should be able to help you.

But note; in worst case the ROM module is damage and the motherboard must be replaced.

Good luck

I downgraded from Vista to XP. All not working well I read on this forum on Vetko's Thread, that member "pinteno" has succeeded to update his BIOS for XP.

Please inform which files he uses and how does he update his BIOS. I have the BIOS version 1.40 on my machine. When I try to update with the setup.exe utility (BIOS ver. 1.6), it goes all the way to New BIOS then the machine is blocked with a blue screen. I have to take off the battery to put off the machin to reboot.

Can anybody help please? I have installed all the drivers for XP but the machine is not ok. Fn keys no good, touch pad so-so...

Answer:Satellite A200 - BIOS update fails on a blue Screen

Usually there are different Satellite A200 series.
Please be sure that you have chosen the right BIOS for the right series!

By the way; the wrong BIOS or a wrong BIOS procedure can damage the ROM module and the motherboard.
The BSOD is very unusual during the BIOS update and hopefully you didn?t damage the notebook.

I have a problem with my Toshiba.

2 days ago I installed a new Bios driver on the computer. Since that day, a notebook is running much slower then normal. I don't know what to do???
I wish to get previous Bios driver but I am not sure how to do it, and I don?t wont to make bigger problem than I have now.

I chose good driver for my "machine" , Vista 32 bit (
Can you help me???

I have also one more problem. My cd/dvd drive is not reading cd disk.
Is it possible that the problem is in Vista??? Because few months ago I had similar problem with cd/dvd drive. That day someone one the internet forum advice me to change something in (I am not sure) registry file.

This was a good solution because the problem disappear and everything was working correctly up to this month.

Thanks for every help,
I hope so that you understand my english :)
Have a good day

Answer:Re: Satellite A200 psea6 is running slow after BIOS update

At this time the Toshiba European driver page provides a Vista 32bit BIOS version 2.50.
Be sure that your BIOS was update to 2.50. You can check this in BIOS settings.

Furthermore I would also recommend setting the BIOS to default settings.
This can be done in the BIOS itself.

But generally it?s not easy t say why your notebook is slower. To be honest I don?t understand what you mean by ?running much slower then normal?
Does the notebook boot slower? Or what?s a problem exactly?

So now some hints regarding you CD/DVD drives issue;
Yes, sometimes the Windows sets some filter values in registry and this could affect the CD/DVD drive functionality.

Check this thread:

There you can find the solution.
And here is link to the useful program which deletes such values from registry

Hi All,

I have Toshiba A200 PSAE0E. I downgraded the OS from Vista to Xp.
When I was trying to upgrade the BIOS setting, the system frozed.

I restated the system using the power button. When restarted there is no display in my screen.
I tried to reboot it by pressing F1, F2, Home key and even removed the battery for a while, till there is no display in my screen.

I even tried connecting with external monitor, but in that also there is no display.
Right now i dont have any sort of recovery disk.

I would greatly appreciate if some one could help me.

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAE0E - no display after BIOS update has failed

For me it looks like the BIOS update procedure has failed.
Due to non apparent reason the system froze and you have interrupted the update procedure.

In mu opinion the ROM module (where the BIOS is stored) has not been flashed properly and this is the reason why you cannot boot up the notebook.

In this case you need the help from ASP? I know, that?s really stupid situation but I?m afraid there is no other solution.

I think the technician will try to flash the ROM module again using an special BIOS and then the notebook should boot up properly? hopefully?. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

Good luck

Answer:Satellite A200-14E CPU upgrade to T7400/T7600 and BIOS update

What is the model number on the base of the laptop? There should be a PSAxxx-xxxxxx number.

Generally, you should only use a CPU that is within the same PSAxxx family. So if you have a PSAF6A, look at the other PSAF6A models to determine the fastest CPU.

If you don't, the CPU may not POST, may overheat, or may run at the incorrect speed.

Here's more info I found:

I recently purchased 4GB of RAM to put in this machine. While I know that Windows will only recognize about 3GB of this, it seems odd that when I`m in my BIOS setup, it also only sees 3GB (at that level it should see all 4GB, no?).

I figured I should update my BIOS, maybe that would help. I`ve gone and downloaded a BIOS update from Toshiba, but when I extract it and run WinPhlash, I get `Cannot load driver PhlasNT.sys` and error code 1072 - despite being logged in as an administrator (see error message screenshot [here|] ).

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite A200-TR6 - WinPhlash error 1072 while trying to update BIOS

Have you tried to download the BIOS update again? Maybe it?s only a corrupt download file?
And for the update you must extract all files from the zip-archive before you start the update and must be logged in as administrator.

Normally you should see the 4GB of RAM in BIOS but as you know you can?t use the full 4GB of RAM in Windows. This is only possible on a 64bit OS.

Is there a solution for my problem?

What Sat A200-xxx do you have exactly?
From my experience there are different BIOS versions for different operating system.
The Vista and XP needs different BIOS!

But I wonder why the Toshiba recovery disk does not function anymore? ?:|
Usually you should be able to recover the system no matte what BIOS has been installed.

Did you try to format the HDD firstly using another disk for example like Win XP?
Check this!

I think you should format the HDD again and then should try to recover the notebook using the Recovery disk?

There I was thinking, I should keep my computer up to date. So I tried to update BIOS. The BIOS update got stuck for 3 hours at some stage 3. The computer will not reboot now, not even to a setup screen. DEAD

I should not have to pay any fees to get my PC working again as it was working perfectly before this upgrade attempt. I did nothing wrong.

Hi spiralvista,

> I have read somewhere that you can make a bootable USB flash BIOS recovery
Yes, I did read about such threads here in forum but it doesn?t always work and there is no official support for this procedure. Everything what you do with such BIOS recovery tools happen on your own risk and in worst case you could destroy the whole ROM module.

Best option would be contacting an authorized service provider because the guys can have professional tools to reflash the ROM module where the BIOS is stored. So you should get in contact with the guys and ask for help. They can also tell you how much it will cost.

Sorry that I can?t give you another answer but here it?s an user to user forum only where you can talk with normal people like you and me ? Nobody from Toshiba here ;)

Here is my problem with my A200-1AE (PSAECE) Notebook:
I downloaded the latest BIOS update from the Toshiba download drivers library to install Win XP since finally the drivers are realized. (Note the update clearly stated to run ONLY if you want to install XP on you NB).

So I unzipped the file and after hitting the .exe file it started updating the BIOS on its own without me giving the liberty to do so. Half way the N/B froze for about 20 minutes and as I didn?t know what else to do so I reset it.

Result? The NB does NOT boot. I press the power button, the Hard Drive icon flashes 2-3 times as well as the DVD drive, I get a blank screen and the power cord & power button icons constantly on. I removed the battery and the power cord for 48 hours hoping it will reset the BIOS on its own to no avail.

The BIOS battery is under the touchpad which means I have to disassemble the whole laptop and I am not ready to do so. I don?t know if on the motherboard there are BIOS reset jumpers and I need someone?s help as to what I should do. I am starting to think that things where MUCH easier back to when I just had a desktop PC.

THERE must be something I can do other that taking it to the service center and pay half the value of the laptop in repairs.... PLS HELP I?m desperate....

Answer:Blank screen & no booting after running BIOS update on Satellite A200-1AE

Hi there,

first of all: a notebook is not a desktop and such mobile computer does not have jumpers like a deskop computer. They surely have something to delete the BIOS but I am not so sure IF resetting the BIOS could help you.

I guess you will have to send your machine to a service center for repair because in such cases you will have no other option. Do you have still warranty on this machine?

I have a Toshiba Satellite (Model no. A200; Part no. PSAE0C-AH308C), and installed Windows XP over a previously corrupted version of Vista (which had 4 partitions, which were corrected, erased, then reformatted into one solid block). Now, I installed all the proper drivers off of Toshiba Canada's support site...

Everything worked, but I wanted to see in Windows (since I just got this computer) if everything was up and running normally before I installed Ubuntu....Then I came to the flash BIOS update. The program is supported in two formats, one for Vista, and one for XP... the one for XP has a higher BIOS version at 5.20 and Vista carries the 1.80 BIOS revision... both of which are marked as being updated by the Toshiba website. I opted to download the later version of the BIOS.

Things went awry as soon as I unzipped the self extracting program. First it said it couldn't find a .dll file (even though it was clearly in there), then what appeared as though it started to flash the BIOS but didn't finish (this was simply what happened when I opened the program)... I think it got to clearing the ROM but didn't get any code in there... Windows had tried to close the program since it was not responding, and I tried to reopen the program... got the same .dll error, but this time the program screen was just gray...

Since this program doesn't flash the BIOS unless the user selects "Flash BIOS" button, I have reason to believe this was a program bug, or a combi... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200 (PSAE0C-AH308C) - After BIOS update black screen

Hello Muhammed

A long story about your notebook and the BIOS update process.

I think your case the best way would be if you go to an authorized service provider. In this case (after a failed BIOS update) you can do nothing. The notebook technicians can try to reflash the ROM-module where the BIOS is stored and in worst case the mainboard must be replaced. The point is that the BIOS chip is soldered on the mainboard and can?t be exchanged and so it?s necessary to exchange the complete mainboard.

About the different BIOS versions on the Toshiba website I must say that it?s depending on the OS that you use. The version 5.20 is for notebooks with XP and 1.80 for notebooks with Vista.

Anyway, go to an ASP and ask for help. I?m sure that the technicians will help you as fast as possible.

Good luck!

After I updated the BIOS (from Toshiba's website), the scrolling function stop working. I can still click, move the mouse pointer, but can no longer scroll through touch pad. Reinstalling Synaptics driver doesn't resolve the problem. The strange thing is that the computer only detects my touchpad as standard pointing device (port: PS/2) device. 'Pressure graph' and 'Moodpad' function also stop working and complain 'this program requires a Synaptics TouchPad and the Synaptics Pointing device driver'.
My computer is Satellite A200 PSAE0C-TR605C.

Does anyone know the reason?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Touchpad scrolling function stop working after update BIOS

Which operating system is installled and which is more interesting: which BIOS version did you installed?? Why I am asking? Because there are 2 different BIOS versions, one for Vista (1.80) and one for XP (5.20) which means when you flash a XP BIOS on a machine with Vista installed then some functions are not working properly like the FN keys or the touchpad.

Please check this out and make sure you have the proper BIOS installed.

Usually the VAP (value added package) needs to be installed in order to update the BIOS.
Is VAP installed? If yes, try to update or reinstall this package again and check if BIOS update is possible.
Furthermore disable any security software like firewall or antivirus software which could prevent the BIOS update.

I'm having a very irritating problem on my laptop...

I have installed Windows 7 professional x86 on my laptop and the most recent Ubuntu 9.10 and the computer keeps crashing all the time.
The original operating system was Windows Vista Home edition.
The computer is 1 and a half years old and I can't beIeave that it isn't Win7 compatible and it doesn't support the most recent Ubuntu release, so if anyone has any idea to what is causing this or if any configurations are needed to run it please help me.

Answer:Both operating systems fail on Satellite A200-220 (PSAE3E)

?computer keeps crashing all the time? is pretty general statement and I don't believe anyone here can say for sure what is wrong there. Operating system installation is complex mix of OS itself and many different additional drivers, tools, utilities and third part applications.

Who knows what you have done, how you have installed all this stuff and what was your installations order? So for this issue you cannot expect simple answer.

First step is of course Win7 installation. At this point OS is ?naked? and without some additional software.
Does your notebook crashes at this point?

I tried to update my BIOS on my T530 today.  Tried both 2.07 and 2.50 (I'm running 2.04).  I'm using the Windows app, not the BIOS CD.  With both 2.07 and 2.50, I get the following error message: "Fail to do module option. The utility process has not completed."  Can anyone help?  I saw one thread that indicated this may be because I chose the option to keep my custom start up image when presented with the option, but I was afraid to choose anything else.  FYI, now the Lenovo update utility doesn't even tell me there's a BIOS update's listed in my installation history as a successful update! Thanks for any help you can offer.

Answer:BIOS Update fail on T530 - Fail to do module option

If you are on Windows 8 it is likely because you need to do a full shutdown. The default is hibernate shutdown for the next boot. Then there will be cold reboot after which if may finish the process. Windows 8 shutdowns are totally different process and the machine is never totally off.

I am having trouble figuring out what to rename the BIOS file. I have read so many posts that I can't get clear on it.

I'm going from something like post #3 in this thread
At least we know there should be some form of recovery possible using the <windows key> and <b key>.

Your BIOS update has two files in it and shortening them to four letters is simple but using a tool provided by one of those BIOS forums it gives five possible names for each of the two BIOS files included in the softpaq. The five names are the same for each of the two files which is what has me confused. HP doesn't give the manufacturer's name for your motherboard which makes it more difficult. Does your Laptop work ok at present? if it does then do not update the BIOS as its likely not needed, BIOS updates are only needed to fix specific issues, like update in Windows say Windows 8 if the said laptop was a XP/Vista based one, to hardware.

I have a HP pavilion dv6-2020EV Note book.
I downloaded an update for Bios "sp50586.exe" from Hp site an extract it. after that a program (Insyde Flash V 3.80.00) Loaded and I pushed start button.
after some time I made mistake an pushed my notebook Power Button. The note book became shutdown and now I see only Black screen.

I performed some actions with HP online guide like pushing Power button for above 1 minute, removing Coin battery, Connecting notebook to another monitor and even removing Hard Disk. I get no reply from machine.

Now the power LED is on, and I can hear sound of DVD Rom when I put a Disc in it. But I can see only Black screen.
also I tried to load Recovery disc of the note book but it could not be loaded.

Would you please Help me. I have no solution. I lost my notebook.

Answer:BIOS FAIL dv6-2020ev:black screen after Bios update

How did HP end the service call-did they offer any further solutions?

Can you direct me to the support page for your model? I can only find it at HP India using Google cache--the actual website seems to be offline. [I want to double check that they were recommending the sp50586 for that model.]

Also, is there a longer model number on the tag on the bottom of the laptop? It might be useful for finding others who have experienced the problem. [There appears to be a BIOS recovery flash option that might work but it is important to have the right version of the BIOS to attempt it.] Since that update is so new there are not many people experiencing the same problems. Your laptop has an Intel processor?

I have a Satellite A200-1G2 and i can't see the SATA HDD in bios, or boot it. I checked if the hdd has power and it has some, any other ideas ?

Answer:Satellite A200-1G2 has no HDD in the BIOS

do you mean that your HDD does absolutely NOT appear in your system and that you can NOT boot from HDD? Which means that Windows does not boot?

Do you get some error message like "media or cable failed" or something similar?

Does the HDD makes ANY kind of noise which could point into some direction?
If you got the opportunity, test your HDD on a external USB drive or with an desktop computer to make sure that the drive is 100% NOT working.

Would appreciate some feedback..

Hi iq860,

On official Toshiba website you can only download the newest version of BIOS but you can find it here: > Support & Downloads > Download Drivers

Satellite A200 is a little bit older so you can find it in *Archive*:
*Archive* > Satellite > Satellite A Series > Satellite A200

I hope it helps! :)

Hello everyone,

Intel has new vga BIOS for Intel x3100 graphics card, this new bios are in 15.6.1 drivers. My notebook is a Satellite and has this graphic card, and my question is if somebody knows when we can download the new BIOS with new VGA in Toshiba downloads??

Answer:New Intel BIOS for VGA - Satellite A200

unfortunately this VGA BIOS is not available separately for a mobile system since the VGA BIOS is embedded in the normal BIOS. So if you want to have the latest from toshiba supported VGA BIOS then just update your machine?s BIOS.

The problem is that a mobile VGA chipset has another memory and chip timings, so every manufacturer has (especially) it?s own version of the VGA BIOS.

Hi all,

I have a laptop Toshiba Satellite A200-1WF (PSAE3E-04R01DDU).
Two weeks ago the LCD was broken, so I bought a new one and replaced it. After i replaced the lcd and assembled everything, I want to boot the laptop.
But I dont see anything on the screen, I only saw the blue light that laptop is connected to the adapter and for a few secs the battery. After a few secs it went off, the same for the hard drive.

I connect my laptop to an external monitor, no signal. I opened the laptop serveral times to check if everything is connected well and as far as i know it is. I also replaced the broken one since it works. It has has only scratches and some black spots. Unfortunatly that also didnt work.

I have read somewhere on the forum to hold the on button for 30 secs, without adapter and battery. After that , replace the adapter and battery and boot it. Also didnt work.

After that i check if the laptop recognize the memory if I get one out. so i did and the adpater light turned into orange. So that works.

What I also tried is when i boot the laptop to hit the esc key and f1. Also nothing and also no sound that i hit to many keys.

Please HELP me out.

Answer:Satellite A200-1WF does't boot, even the bios

Seems you did something wrong during the disassembling procedure.
Nobody will be able to say what went wrong? fact is that you did something which has affected the motherboard or another part?

It?s really not advisable to disassemble the notebooks because the procedure is tricky and during the disassembling you could damage some essential hardware parts?

In my opinion you should get in contact with an technician who could run some test or could check the parts for a malfunction?

Good luck mate

Hi everyone,

Last week had a bad BIOS update and my laptop didn't started. I managed to fix it with the Crisis Recovery Disk and the "BIOS update" from the toshiba support web for Toshiba Satellite A200 PSAE6E, Windows Vista.

My problem now is that both the BIOS and the boot system or disk, after the BIOS ask me for a password which I don't know because I had another password for the BIOS and no one for the boot system.

Anyone knows which those passwords would be? I tried some default passwords found in internet with no luck

Thanks in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1FL: BIOS ask me for a password which I don't know

I don't think if anyone can really help you with this password or something like this in this forum. You should contact ASP (service center).

I have this above laptop downgraded at purchase from Vista Ultimate to WXP SR2, but I am having issues getting the BIOS to recognize that there is 4GB of RAM in there. It only thinks there is 3GB.

Both ram chips have been checked and they are 2GB pairs.
The BIOS version it is currently running is 1.4.

The 3 questions I have are:

1. What is the laptop version I should be selecting when choosing my laptop to look for a BIOS upgrade, I am assuming it is the (Satellite A200 (PSAEC)) as its the closes you have to the laptop code on the back, I cannot see the A200-1BW listed anyplace on your site. As this is a BIOS upgrade I want to make sure I apply the correct version.

2. Which BIOS should I be running, as the Vista BIOS is currently 1.8 and the XP BIOS currently 5.8, it looks like my laptop is running the wrong version of the BIOS for my operating system.

3. Does the new BIOS upgrades (if any) fix the 3 - 4 GB issue?

Note: This is not that the memory is not appearing in WXP, this is the post BIOS screen stating that there is only 3GB on the machine when there is actually 4GB

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite A200-1BW - BIOS Question

Regarding the question number

1) The notebook series number can be found at the bottom of the unit! Check the label. I found the info too, that the A200-1BW would belong to the PSAECE series.

2) If you use the XP OS on this notebook then you should update the BIOS to the XP version. If you want to use Vista, update the BIOS to the Vista version.

3) Usually after BIOS update the 4GB of memory should be recognized.
_But note;_ The 32bit Vista version will still use only the 3GB of the RAM due to the 32bit OS limitation!

Best regards

I've saw there's different bios version depending of the OS.
My laptop is a Satellite A200-PSAE6. The bios version for WXP is 5.30 and 1.70 for Vista.
I'd like to use either XP or Vista on my Laptop. Both are installed.
Which bios should I use ? Are there similar ?

Answer:BIOS with Vista and WXP on a Satellite A200

If you want to use WXP on your Satellite A200 make BIOS update with version 5.30. This BIOS is designed for full WXP functionality and you will be able to use full FN keys functionality.

Dear all,

I know it is already discussed problem with high fan activity in bios 2.10-WIN. But I haven't found any solution yet.

Model: A200 1N7
OS: Windows Vista 32b

Is there any solution how to speed down the fan or decrease fan activity?
Toshiba Power saver doesn't exist for this model and Vista.

Is it possible to downgrade to older bios version? Where to get it?

Thanks a lot.

Answer:Satellite A200-1N7: Bios 2.10-WIN fan activity

In my opinion Toshiba engineers have changed some values in BIOS and now the cooling fan runs often than before. In my opinion it is not any kind of ?problem?. Maybe we can define it as kind of BIOS update side effect.

Power saver tool exist in Vista too but it is not easy to find it because it is not designed as before under WXP. Please check cooling method under - Start ? Control Panel ? System & Maintenance ? Power Options ? ?Select a Power Plan? ? Change plan settings ? Change advanced power settings ? Toshiba Power Saver Settings ? Cooling Method.

Test it with option ?Battery Optimized?. I use the same option on my P200 and it cooling fan is much easier. I also use BALANCED power profile with reduced display brightness. Try to do the same.

I've tried to reinstall bios on Satellite A200, without any results. Now I cant even start the notebook. When I called to servise in our city, they say that this computer have just one way to the trash.
This computer is 3 month old. What I may to do with it?

Answer:Bios problem on Satellite A200

First of all: What do you mean with "reinstalling"???!!! Did you tried it before and it failed? Need some better explanation!

I prey sometimes that the users here (or new users) just explain their problem a little bit more detailed!!
Ok, if the notebook does not start then it must not be fully for trash.

Another question: Which service did you called!? Was that a Toshiba Servicepartner??? I think if it was a OFFICIAL AUTHORIZED SERVICE PARTNER then they wouldn?t tell you that your machine can go straight into a trash-can...

Please do the following to save your machine from the trash:

1. Click on THIS LINK: 000000871
2. Search for the nearest AUTHORIZED SERVICE PARTNER in your country and please don?t call the same one which you called before!
3. Call them and send your machine to them. They should repair your machine because you have still warranty on it.

Thats all.

Please Help me.

I bought a brand new toshiba Satellite A200 series laptop with vista home premimum in it.

For some reasons I'm not a big vista fan.
So i downgraded my OS to XP and as i was searching for drivers and all for XP i saw a Bios update for my laptop it was 5.20 which was for XP. While for Vista its 2.40 as per mentioned on website.

Now from here my problems started.
I downloaded that v5.20 bios and updated it.
Soon problems started like laptop gets overheated, it freezes, and sometimes refuse to give performance.

As i was unable to find all my drivers for XP i switched back to Vista with the help of my recovery DVD. But the problem remained the same with Vista also so finally i took my laptop to a Toshiba Service Centre.

They said there is a problem in motherboard so they fixed it but they didn't fixed the Bios.
I still have v5.20 on my machine.

I tried to downgrade to v2.40 but it always shows an error.

Can Anyone pls help me.. I'm able to boot with a USB thumbdrive but i don't have a DOS version of Bios v2.40.

Please if anyone can provide me with my version of bios.

I don?t know why you want to downgrade the BIOS.
Did you read the information on the Toshiba website for the BIOS version 5.20? I founded this:
> Supported both Windows XP and Vista OS

So I think you should not downgrade the BIOS. The newest BIOS 5.20 is for Windows XP and Vista.
You can find this information on Toshiba Asia because you have Asia model (not Europe): =>
BIOS version 5.20 upgrade for Satellite A200( For PSAF0*-****** & PSAFC*-****** ONLY)

The Toshiba Service Center did make a good work with the newest BIOS.

I just have a question if anybody noticed any difference in performance, battery life and so on with new BIOS posted this month.
I am hesitating to update because in the past new BIOS after couple of weeks was updated again because of previous bugs - in 3 weeks or so there were 2 BIOSes or even more.

Thanks a lot

P.S.: Does anyone know by chance what does this bios version update?

Answer:Any visible changes on 2.6 BIOS - Satellite A200-1SI

In my A200 original BIOS version was 1.70. I updated it to version 2.50. After nearly one month the new version was released. Till now I did not notice any performance changes. Therefore, it would be very helpful if changes/improvements list is released with new BIOS updates.

Do I need to update the BIOS? Where do I get the update and how do I update it?

Answer:No AHCI in BIOS in Satellite Pro A200

As far as I know BIOS update doesn't offer some additional options. Please check BIOS settings again. In advanced BIOS options there should be SATA option and there you can change between compatibility and AHCI mode.

I have it on my P200. It is almost identical machine but 17? and your is 15? model.

i have a strange problem in my Satellite A200-1DY, last friday i tried to update my Bios.
Firstly i had a problem, i could not update because it gives me an error:
+error -200 update failed error checking update+ or someting like this.

Then i disabled in winplash checking option and everything works ok, it seem like updated all blocks, and finally the program restarted notebook but Bios still 2.50 version and it seems look like nothing has changed. I don't undertand anything.

I have Vista x64 but my computer had installed Vista x32, and the most strange thing is that if i try to update Bios after format notebook whith Toshiba cd recovery Vista x32 everyting works fine and i have not problems.

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1DY - Vista 64bit 2.60 Bios is the same like 2.50?

Just one note; The Satellite A200-1DY belongs to the PSAE3 series.

The Toshiba page provides three different BIOS for this notebook.
At this time there is a BIOS 2.60 for Vista 32bit and 64bit and 5.6 for Win XP.

The three BIOS versions are different and if you are using the Vista 32bit you have to use the BIOS designed for Vista 32bit.

BIOS 2.5 is not the same like BIOS 2.60? I think there is a difference?

However, as far as I know the Vista 32bit has been preinstalled on this A200 series and the Recovery disk should contains also the 32bit Vista.

I don?t know why the 2.5version is still visible on your A200 but I assume the BISO update was not successful and can be related to the fact that the winplash checking option has been disabled.

I am user of A200-1bp and I installed 1.8 Bios for it.
Is there any problem on 1.8 bios because it influence my notebook performance...

How can I turn back to original bios?
thanks for answer

Answer:Satellite A200-1BP: 1.8 Bios influence performance

Why do you think that the BIOS update has some influence on your machine? How do you noticed it?

I mean usually the BIOS only maintains the installed hardware and serves the OS with the information which is stored in the BIOS eeprom, so if a new BIOS is released then it only contains improvements and not any data which could lower your performance..

Please describe which performance problems you have, I guess they could come from some applications and not from the BIOS (100% sure).
