Preferred Solution: Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A200

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite A200

Sure, the performance will improve highly since the difference between 1 GB and 2GB is big.

Be sure, that you use DDR2 PC 5300 modules to get the most out of your machine.
If you got still any questions, then ask please

Hello, i'm from greece and i'm new here, i know im newbe..

I have toshiba Satellite A200-23q (motherboard: intel gm965, cpu: t5550 (1,8ghz) )...

Resently i bought Intel T7500 (2,2ghz)..
Can i upgrade this laptop with this cpu?? What bios can i updated it to?

Sorry for my language mistakes...

thanks..

Answer:Satellite A200-23Q - Cpu upgrade question

Hi

Usually the CPU upgrade is not advisable.
First of all the BIOS which was developed for this unit, has not been tested with different CPUs and in worst case the BIOS will not be compatible with the new CPU.

The Chipset should support this CPU;
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/316273.pdf

Chapter 1.1.1 Processor Support:
The chipset supports the Intel Core 2 Duo Mobile processors 533Mhz and 800Mhz FSB support.

The Intel? Core?2 Duo Processor T7500 supports 800 MHz FSB so it should be supprted by chipset.

But once again; there are other reasons why the CPU upgrade should not be done;
The BIOS is one reason.
The second reason is the higher heat dissipation which would be created by stronger CPU? this could affect the notebook functionality as well.

I want to purchase some internal memory for my A200 Satellite Pro Mod No,PSAE1E but I cannot find my model in the drop down lists, which memory do I need, I want to upgrade using two 1GB memory sticks, at present I have two 512MB sticks installed.

Answer:Question about Ram upgrade on a Satellite Pro A200

Hi friend,

what you need are two "DDR2 PC5300" RAM sticks with a frontsidebus of 667Mhz.

Like these one: http://www.memorysuppliers.com/200pinddpc66.html

I would recommend kingston since they are known to work well in almost all mobile computer devices from a big brand..

Hello

I have Satellite A200-1CR, PSAE0E-02G01TSK
I have 2Gb of RAM
Can I install 4Gb of RAM (because I try 2x2Gb, 800MHz) and don?t working.

Do I need only 667 MHz or my laptop supports only 2Gb?
Thanks

Answer:Question about RAM upgrade on Satellite A200-1CR

Hello

Your notebook can be upgraded up to 2 GB only and for upgrade you must use compatible 667 MHz modules.
For successfully upgrade I recommend you 2 X 1 GB DDR2-667 with part number PA3512U-1M1G.

Hi to all.....
I would like to ask something.....

I have toshiba Satellite A200-1cr with 120GB HDD.....

I would like to change my HDD. I 've found a hard drive 2.5" with 250GB.

My questions are the following:

1) My knowledge of desktops are very very good. Is it easy to change it on my own?
I guess it is but i want to be sure.. I suppose it gets IDE on it, right?? No SATA at all?

2) If i changed it am i losing my guarantee?

3) Can i give my notebook in a Toshiba official shop in greece and let them do the change?
Can i take it in an unofficial shop, too??

4) Can i put on the notebook 2x 250GB such us new toshiba laptops?
Is there enough space in the notebook for such a change?

thank you in advance.......

Answer:Satellite A200-1CR: Question about HDD upgrade

Hi buddy

It?s good that you ask this.

1) The Satellite A200-1CR supports SATA and not IDE interface and therefore you would need a SATA HDD. It?s really not difficult to replace the HDD and as far as I know you should find some details in the user manual. There is a useful instruction and pictures which explain the whole procedure.

2) Hm? as far as I know the HDD replacement does not cancel the warranty and has no affect on the warranty state.

3) You can also contact the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country for a HDD replacement but in my opinion this is really not necessary because the replacement is not very tricky. As I said above, check the user manual.

4) I don?t think that your notebook would support 2 x 250GB HDD.
Of course, there are some other notebook series which are abele to support two HDDs but I don?t think that your A200 notebook support it.

Just a little comment about the new HDD:
Fact is that some bigger HDD are not supported by BIOS. I mean a upgrade from 120GB to 250GB HDD is really a big step an possibly your BIOS would not recognize the HDD correctly.
Therefore I would recommend testing the HDD firstly before buying.

Hi

I have Toshiba Satellite A200-13O ,with (512+512)GB ram.
I want to change the ram to 2GB but i cant find same type of ram.

Is it possible to change it with any type or not?

Regards

Answer:Satellite A200-13O: RAM upgrade question

Hi

You have to use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM memory modules. Usually it?s no matter what RAM manufacture it is. It?s only important that you would use the right memory modules which support the right specifications.

By the way; you can also order the right memory module from the Toshiba ASP. Just contact the ASP technician and ask for the compatible parts.

*Hello !*

I have got a dual boot with windows xp/ubuntu. I want to upgrate my BIOS for more functions but can I replace the v1.7 to the v5.6 ? I have read : "This Bios is only compatible for Notebooks with Windows XP". -->

Bios 5.6 and my computer

I don't want to crash my computer.

Sorry if my English is not perfect... I am French.

Answer:BIOS upgrade question on Satellite A200-25B

Hi there,

I would suggest that you stick to the WXP BIOS updates. The reason v5.x upgrades are available (and saying that the BIOS is only compatible with notebooks with Windows XP) is because they are BIOS updates to enable installation of Windows Vista.

If you do not wish to upgrade to Windows Vista, stay with WXP BIOS's in the range v1.x - v2.x (also check that the BIOS is specifically for Windows XP or not).

Hope this helps.

Recently bought a toshiba a200-1MB laptop.
It came with a 1GB ram( 512+512 DDR2,667Mhz).

I want to upgrade the ram to about 2 GB, is it possible to add RAM keeping the originals in place?

Also, I wish to replace the Vista with XP, is it possible to do so. The product recovery cd came with vista preinstalled in it. Can i install the drivers from the recovery cd and install xp separately.

thanks

Answer:Satellite A200-1MB - Question about RAM upgrade and XP installation

Both slots are already busy.
If you want to upgrade the RAM you have to remove one module.

You can upgrade the RAM up to max 4GB (2 x 2GB)

You could use the DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM

>Also, I wish to replace the Vista with XP, is it possible to do so. The product recovery cd came with vista preinstalled in it. Can i install the drivers from the recovery cd and install xp separately.

This is possible. You will have to install the XP from your original Microsoft CD. The XP drivers can be find on the Toshiba page

I have a Satellite A200 PSAF6A and I am trying to upgrade the Bios since the current one has a virus or something in it and I want to know how to do this with a DOS based floppy disk or how to make a bootable floppy for the bios .

Any help would be so much appreciated thank you.

Answer:Satellite A200 PSAF6A - Bios Upgrade question

> I am trying to upgrade the Bios since the current one has a virus or something in it
Virus in BIOS?
Sorry mate but I don?t believe that! Why do you think that the ROM module where the BIOS is stored could be affected by virus?

Furthermore the traditional BIOS (DOS as you said) is not available for download!
You can find a win-based BIOS and such BIOS can be updated from running windows system!

I was planning on upgrading my A200-1QK (320Gb HDD).

I was looking for a HDD with more space and possibly with more speed, I work with audio mixing composing and recording software and libraries tend to eat a lot of space (I know a desktop would be the best option and I have one but sometimes I need a more portable solution). I even thought of running the OS from an external SATAII 1TB HDD but I don't know if it possible.

Well but the question here is:
What are the technical proprieties I must look for in a HDD so it would work on my laptop?
Is there any 7200rpm avaible for laptops? I'm looking for something 500GB or bigger.

Thank you in advance =)

Answer:Satellite A200-1QK - Need new HDD for upgrade

Hi

Theoretically you can buy an HDD with 7200rpm but it produces more heat and need a little bit more power as 5400rpm model. So it?s your choice what you buy. ;)
You can buy every 2.5? notebook HDD with SATA or SATA2 connector. If you search a little bin on online shops you should find enough 500GB HDDs with 7200rpm.

I have good experience with Hitachi and Western Digital HDDs.

I'm wondering if it is possible to upgrade to 4GB memory
In the specifications, it is stated that the maximum expansion is 2GB.

However, I don't know if 2GB is the maximum expansion for each slot, being possible to have two modules of 2GB each, or the mother board is only able to stand 2GB altogether.

Thanks in advance

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-130 RAM Upgrade

Hi mate,

you can upgrade your machine up to 4GB but only 3.5GB will be recognized. So if you want to upgrade your machine to 2GB then there is no problem, the 2GB will be recognized as 2GB.

You do only need 2x 1GB DDR2 SO-DIMM modules

Thats all..

Hello all,

Don't worry I'm not here to ask about only 3GB of RAM showing in a Windows 32bit system! :-P

I am wanting to upgrade the RAM on my A200 and what I was wondering was can I only upgrade with 667MHz RAM? I know the FSB on the processor is 800MHz so can I not use 800MHz RAM? I had a look in the BIOS to see if there was an option to change the speed ratios like on my desktop but I couldn't find anything. Is the RAM speed locked and if so is there an update to the BIOS available that will allow it to be changed?

Hopefully this isn't a really dumb question but thanks in advance!

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A200 - RAM Upgrade

RAM with more MHz will not make your notebook faster. I am not 100% sure but FSB speed on mainboard is 533 MHz and RAMs you have inside are 667MHz.

If you can upgrade RAM up to 4 GB use compatible 2 GB RAM with part number PA3513U-1M2G.

Hi!

I don?t know how much it costs to upgrade to 4GB RAM. This depending on the modules that you can buy and where do you buy it.
For upgrade the RAM you need modules with DDR2 (667MHZ) specification.

And changing the RAM is pretty easy. Check your user manual, there you can find some instructions and pictures how to do this. ;)

Hello, im a owner of laptop A200-1N7 and i want to upgrade parts in it. Could some of the staff provide information of:

-max supported CPU for this laptop
Wonder will those cpu work:
T4500 FSB is 800Mhz
T3400 FSB is 667Mhz
T2390 FSB is 533Mhz - same as T2310 in A200
Now I would say T2390 will work for sure, T3400 maybe, but it would be good if T4500 would run. All those are Socket-P, all have TDP35W and all are at roughly the same voltage.

-max supported ram - i know book says 2gb, but maybe there is some BIOS upgrade or so that takes care about that limit, at least 2x2gb would be awesome

-max supported drive + max power the drive can take up, I was wondering about buying a SSD drive, since this is a laptop just for few months and I could use it later in the new one

-link to the latest drivers & bios page

I would really appreciate the help. Please don't answer in style: You should do that or that because you can damage it/you should go to TOSHIBA center and bla bla bla. I know what im doing and what i want to do :), not my first laptop or pc. Just i want to avoid buying 3xCPU for 10euro and buy one but working.

Answer:Satellite A200-10W - max RAM upgrade

Google found this: http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/product/Satellite-A200-10W/127560/#0

It can support 4GB max.

Only the new Intel Montevina chipset in the latest laptops support 8GB.

Windows XP and Vista 32bit are limited to about 3GB. The memory address space above 3GB is virtually mapped to the Video Card and other devices. So you will waste 1GB if you installed 4GB of RAM.

If you want to use more than 3GB, you need to install Vista 64bit.

Hi

I want to upgrade processor in my A200-1M8 (now there is T7100).

I consider two processors:
a) T7700 Merom with 65nm, Sockets Supported PBGA479, PPGA478
b) T8300 Penryn with 45nm, Sockets Supported BGA479, PGA478

I'd prefer Penryn becouse of low power consumption and less heat generated then Merom.
But I don't know for sure, will Penryn run on my laptop?
There are also no bios updates for A200-1M8 (PSAE6E) - I gess, that my bios doesn't support newer T8300.

I searched internet and didn't find anyone who did this before.

Thanks for help

Answer:CPU upgrade on Satellite A200-1M8

Hi, upgrading the CPU is not advisable since the cooling system and power supply are designed to support a certain range of CPU's. If a high performance CPU is installed, it can cause stability/cooling problems, or it may damage the Mainboard, or not boot at all.

If you must upgrade the CPU, the best option would be to use a CPU model that is available in the other PSAE6E-xxxxxx models. If one of those other PSAE6E models use a T7700, then it should work fine in your A200.

Does anyone have a list with all CPU running with this motherboard?

Thanks for helping.

Answer:Satellite A200 - CPU Upgrade possible?

Hi

Did you read some threads here in the forum about the CPU upgrade possibilities?
Do that!

Fact is that CPU upgrade is not easy as for example on desktop PCs.
The BIOS is always different and modified by notebook manufacturers.
So even if the chipset would allow you to upgrade the CPU, there is still a question if BIOS would handle this new CPU. So such upgrades are always risky.

The notebook uses the Mobile Intel 943GML Express Chipset

So you have to check what CPUs are supported by this chipset:
http://www.intel.com/Assets/PDF/datasheet/309219.pdf

Here on the page 30 you can find this:
+All features supported by Mobile Intel 940GML / GM Express Chipset shall be supported+
+by Intel 943GML Express Chipset unless noted otherwise below.+

_+Processor Support+_
+? Intel? Processor A100 and A110 on 90 nm Process with 512-KB L2 Cache 400-MHz+
+front side bus (FSB) support+

So you should check what CPUs are supported by Intel 940GML

Hello,
I am thinking of upgrading my RAM, from 2 gig to 3 or 4 gig.
I know windows 32 bit only recognises 3 gig max, but I was wondering if it would be better to install 2x2g then 1x2 gig and 1x1 gig?
Another question I have:
I opened my laptop to see what was inside right now, and it seemed that it had 2 parts of ram inside (photo: http://i44.tinypic.com/xojyhw.jpg
)
. So I was wondering, is this 2x1 gig? Or is one of them just a fake one to fill the slots?

So in short: do I have to buy a 1 gig or a 2 gig RAM, and do I have to remove one that is installed in order to install the new (2gig) one?

Answer:Satellite A200-1TW - I want to upgrade the RAM

It?s not a fake the both modules that have 2GB (2 x 1GB).

Your Satellite A200 can be upgraded to 4GB RAM. So you can buy 2 x 2GB DDR2-667 RAM for notebooks.
But don?t forget that Windows XP will only recognize 3GB. For 4GB you need a 64bit OS.

Here you can read more about the limitation on 32bit OS:

The notebook supports the Intel? 945GM chipset. The RAM upgrade depends on the chipset.
As far as I know the 667Mhz RAMs would be clocked down to 533Mhz?
But you can upgrade this to 4GB RAM (2 x 2GB)

3. 200 GB hard Disk

With change in RAM, do I have to update the drivers? If Yes, what are they?

Answer:Can I upgrade Satellite Pro A200-1YK?

Hey,

Both components you can upgrade: RAM and HDD.

RAM upgrade:
According the specifications of Satellite Pro A200-1YK it uses an Intel GL960 Express Chipset. That means it supports up to 2GB RAM and therefore an upgrade is not possible because you have already 2GB.
Here are specifications of your chipset:
http://ark.intel.com/chipset.aspx?familyID=26558

HDD upgrade:
I think on HDD upgrade there is no capacity limit because your notebook supports already SATA interface.
So I assume 500GB should be no problem. You need a 2.5? notebook HDD with SATA interface and that?s all! :)

Hallo,

The specification from the new one is very good, but I need the old box with a white keyboard and a better sound system.

Answer:Question about Satellite A200-13L

Hello

Sorry but it is not easy to say what you should do. You must have your opinion and own priorities. Inform you about all available models and make a decision. Do not buy something if you are not 100% sure that you want to have it.

For me design is very important but the hardware configuration is definitely more important for me. Be sure the notebook has good graphic adapter, enough RAM and all what you need for everyday work (WLAN, BT, webcam maybe and so on).

Answer:Some question about Satellite A200-1BJ

> Three years ago, at the time of buying Toshiba laptop, I got the drivers CD as well along with the recovery CD. Why the Drivers CD is not being supplied in current edition of laptop.

I don?t know exactly why Toshiba has decided to provide only the Recovery CD and not the driver CDs together with the notebook but all the drivers which are preinstalled on the notebook can be found on the Toshiba driver page. Hi,
all I have an Satellite A200-1X1 with 1 gig ram, I have installed another 1 gig ram which is the same make: SAMSUNG 1GB 2Rx8 PS2-5300-555-12-E3, it work fine but after 10min the laptop restarts and goes to a bluescreen, can any help me on this issue.

THANKS

Answer:Satellite Pro A200-1X1: RAM upgrade problem

One question;
Did this issue appear before you have installed the second RAM module?

If not then this issue is definitely related to the second RAM module.
What you could do is to switch the both memory modules in another memory slot.
Sometimes this helps.

If the BSOD will still appear then you should replace the memory module and should test another one.

Best regards & Good luck

Answer:Processor upgrade on Satellite A200-18W

Hello Xavier

As you probably know CPU upgrade is not supported. I understand you that you want to have more powerful machine but have you tried to make lower level hardware upgrade to get better performance? I mean RAM.

Satellite A200 is known to me and I still use old P200. With maximum RAM and Win7 32 bit my P200 runs perfectly. For everyday activities and older games machine is perfect si I think CPU upgrade is definitely not necessary.

Is there some ?special? reason why do you need faster CPU?

Good afternoon, I updated the bios to version v: 1.80 but I do not know which is the maximum processor supported, I made some improvements:

- 4 gigabytes of RAM
- SSD hard drive

Which higher graph could put you if you can change for another besides to subrogate some ram for the graph to improve its performance in graphs

Hi,

I have a Satellite A200. PSAFCA-01K00J. This is the system bought in Australia around mid 2007. There is currently a Nvidia GeForce Go 7300 GPU intslalled on the system.

Initial inquiry leads me to belive there is limited upgrade options for the latop, however there seems to be a number of anomalies to lead me to think upgrade may be within reach. For example.

In my user manual, it describes my gpu as the following:

lnVidia GeForce Go 7300 model:
External 128 MB VGA DDR2 RAM (depending on the model you purchased).

Now the external word i believe refers to type of interface. As some A200 have the Intel 258mb Gpu marked as intergrated (and i am aware intergrated means no chance of upgrade). This sugests the nVidia is not intergrated and leads me to belive it is MXM connection and therefore changeable / upgradeable.

Another thing to back up this idea is the Nvidia software found in the control panel, has a section on system information and it describes the bus as PCI express X16. That if i am not mistaken refers to a normal PCIe slot - definately changeable. However being a laptop they may have made it Mobile and hence Mobile PCI Express Module and i am back to MXM with upgrade capabilties.

Can this be confirmed please, and are there any toshiba fans that could lead me to an apropriate card - maybe off the shelf Nvidia or even a used one from a later toshiba laptop. preferable 512mb or at least a 256mb.

I ike using this latop, never had a problem. ... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200 (PSAFCA) - Can I upgrade the GPU?

Hi!

In my opinion it?s not possible to exchange the graphic card. As far as I know the graphic chip is soldered on the mainboard.

Furthermore if the graphic card would be exchangeable I think the mainboard and/or BIOS will not support the new graphic card. The point is that notebooks are not so upgrade friendly as desktop PCs.

Check this Toshiba document and think about this:

Hi Guys ,,
MY laptop is Satellite A200-10w , I wanna ask if there is a place to install second HDD or not and can I upgrade my HDD to 1TB (1 tera) or the mother board doesnt support this ?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A200 - upgrade to 1 tera HDD

If I am remembering well at the bottom side you will find two HDD covers. Remove the second one and check if HDD connector is available.
If connector is there you can put second HDD.

What to say about new HDD. I believe you are the first one who wants to have 1 tera HDD in notebook. As far as I know some new notebooks support HDDs up to 500GB and I am not sure 1 tera will be recognized properly.

Lets see if someone else can confirm this.

I'm thinking to upgrade the RAM of my laptop, but I don't know which kind of memory I should buy and which brands are compatible.

The current RAM is 2 GB and I would like to pass to a 3 or 4 GB.
On the other hand I would like to know if this laptop is compatible with Linux.

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A200-1FL: RAM upgrade - What memory can I use?

Theoretically you could use the memory modules from different manufacturers.
But the memory modules must support the right specifications.

You should use the modules which are DDR2 667MHz (PC2-5300) 200-PIN SODIMM.

You could update the memory up to 4GB but I think it?s not necessary to do this because the windows OS will recognize only 3GB due to the 32bit OS limitation.

Regarding you Linux question;
Fact is that Toshiba doesn?t release any drivers fro the Linux and therefore you have to search for the drivers on any other 3rd party websites. But generally I don?t see any gig troubles with the Linux installation on Toshiba notebooks.

Approximately 2 years ago I bought Toshiba notebook Satellite A200-23P with Windows Vista perinstalled. Now I want upgrade to Windows 7. I download Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it wrote me that:

1) More info from TOSHIBA TOSHIBA has a website that might give you more information about getting Windows 7 running on your PC. Visit the TOSHIBA website
(i haven't found any information on your web-site regarding updates issues)

And information about TOSHIBA software like: Disc Creator, DVD Player, Config Freeetc... that they "don't have compatibility information about this version of the program"

I want to know is it safe upgrade to Windows 7? Do i need to make some preparations or smth like that? Or is it better to just stay on Vista ).

Thx.

Answer:Satellite A200-23P - Upgrade to Windows 7

Hey,

As far as I know on official Toshiba website there are no information anymore regarding Windows 7 upgrade because this Windows 7 upgrade offer did already end few months ago.

Before you make an upgrade or new installation, check on Toshiba website if all drivers and tools are available for your notebook.
If yes the upgrade shouldn?t be a problem but I would prefer a clean installation. Properly it will run smoother instead the upgrade version.

Hi everybody,

I want to improve the performance of my computer Toshiba A200 and then I have decided to buy a 2 Gb Memory Ram Module.
Looking the results of this forum and the report from an application called Everest (I am sure you know it) the memory I must buy is DDR2-667 MHz (PC5300) DDR2 RAM 200 pin SO-DIMMs.

I was about to buy this kind of memory and then looking for more information on the internet, I found a very interesting page http://www.techsupportforum.com/ with lots of useful post about computer world. One of the post was titled 'Selecting RAM for your LAPTOP', and it explains that the memory that suits to your computer depends on the processor you have... It's curious because my processor is T7500, and in the post I find this

Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 Processors:
DDR2-800 MHz (PC6400) DDR2 RAM 200 pin SO-DIMMs

So, what do you think, can I buy this kind of memory (faster than the one I have assembled), or the information in this post is false.

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Curiosity about RAM upgrade on Satellite A200

The processor will run at the speed the bios is locked to. Some people like to nudge the bios and buy a faster mem chip hoping to overclock. Ram is backward compatible speed wise ie 800 ram will work at 667. Buy the recommended ram and pop it in.

Total Physical Memory 3,00 GB
Available Physical Memory 2,01 GB
Total Virtual Memory 6,19 GB
Available Virtual Memory 5,12 GB
Page File Space 3,29 GB

So my question is WHY AVAILABLE PHYSICAL MEMORY IS STILL 2.01 GB? when i have installed 4GB and the system can see that only in theory.

Answer:4GB memory upgrade on Satellite A200-23W

There is nothing wrong with your system. As you already posted, windows shows your total amount of 4GB physical memory and the total physical memory of 3GB.
The part with the available memory is a windows thing and shows how much memory is left for other programs, because windows needs some of it your its own.

So, if you want to use the full amount of your 4GB you will have to use a 64bit version of Vista, because 32bit versions are limited to a maximum size of 3,29GB as your page file space already indicates.

Hope this cleared some things now.

Hi mate

Don?t worry!
The temperature is not too high.
This is a common temperature value.

You should know that if the notebook internal temperature would be too high, then notebook would shuts down automatically to prevent the hardware from damage?
If the notebook is running troublefree then everything is ok with the internal temp.

Hy there,
I have a problem... or that's what I think it is... I bought a new TOSHIBA Satellite A200-1CR with Vista Basic preinstalled and I upgraded it to Vista Business. The problem is regarding the usage of FN key with the additional shortcuts... Using those shortcuts is kind of tricky because I don't really know how they work... In Windows, after boot in top of the screen I have a couple of buttons(exactly the FN shortcuts) which I can use by keeping the mouse on top of and they slide down, but, the problem is that after those buttons appear the usage of the FN shortcut keys from the keyboard is disabeled... or kind of, because I can use FN+F9,FN+F10,FN+F11 shortcuts. Please help me and tell me if this is normal... and if not tell me how can I fix this. Thank you!

Oh, thats normal, don?t worry. You can disable that buttons and then just work with the FN-keys.
Just remove that bar on the top from autostart and it won?t annoy you anymore.

This may be in the wrong section... I don't know.

I've never owned an OEM OS and I also don't understand why the HDD comes partitioned 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).

The thing is that I have to format and partition differently (since I have to dual boot Linux) and need to create a structure more like 40,40,100 or such. (100 being fat32 so data can be accessed for both)

Now I'm just wondering which data I should be keeping from these drives. There's a folder called Toshiba on the C:\ drive which seems to have drivers and such, a few wallpapers and who knows what else. Then there's the D: drive called WinRE which has some sort of sdi and wim files.

Another question, if I buy the 2GB which is listed in the compatible options for my laptop (A200-28P)
Link: [http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/jsp/individualOptions.do?service=UK&OPTION_ID=138301&t oshibaShop=true&selCategory=4700]
Will it match the 2GB already in the laptop? Will it void the warranty in any way?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Question about HDD partitions and RAM

Hi

> I've never owned an OEM OS and I also don't understand why the HDD comes partitioned 90, 2, 90 (who thought of that?).
I assume you are using Vista.
The 2GB partition is a hidden partition which contains Vista backup files and data. This partition will be created always automatically during the Vista installation.

Regarding the other partition 90GB;
Well, this partition (data partition) can be used to store some files like pictures, movies, personal documents, etc? It?s always advisable to partition an large HDD in more partition. This improves the performance because OS can access the files much faster.

Of course you can change the partitions size. In Vista you can change this in Disk Management.

Regarding the RAM upgrade;
The notebook seems to support the Intel? PM965 chipset and it handles 4GB RAM. So it seems that you could use one 2GB RAM in one slot.

I have this above laptop downgraded at purchase from Vista Ultimate to WXP SR2, but I am having issues getting the BIOS to recognize that there is 4GB of RAM in there. It only thinks there is 3GB.

Both ram chips have been checked and they are 2GB pairs.
The BIOS version it is currently running is 1.4.

The 3 questions I have are:

1. What is the laptop version I should be selecting when choosing my laptop to look for a BIOS upgrade, I am assuming it is the (Satellite A200 (PSAEC)) as its the closes you have to the laptop code on the back, I cannot see the A200-1BW listed anyplace on your site. As this is a BIOS upgrade I want to make sure I apply the correct version.

2. Which BIOS should I be running, as the Vista BIOS is currently 1.8 and the XP BIOS currently 5.8, it looks like my laptop is running the wrong version of the BIOS for my operating system.

3. Does the new BIOS upgrades (if any) fix the 3 - 4 GB issue?

Note: This is not that the memory is not appearing in WXP, this is the post BIOS screen stating that there is only 3GB on the machine when there is actually 4GB

Thanks in advance
Tony

Answer:Satellite A200-1BW - BIOS Question

Regarding the question number

1) The notebook series number can be found at the bottom of the unit! Check the label. I found the info too, that the A200-1BW would belong to the PSAECE series.

2) If you use the XP OS on this notebook then you should update the BIOS to the XP version. If you want to use Vista, update the BIOS to the Vista version.

3) Usually after BIOS update the 4GB of memory should be recognized.
_But note;_ The 32bit Vista version will still use only the 3GB of the RAM due to the 32bit OS limitation!

Hi everyone,

My problem is (not sure it is a problem or not) I see that my ccomputer uses minimum %33 (~1gb) of memory instantaneous. I did not understand working principle.

Be sure it is set to ?Normal?.

Hello,

I have a notebook Satellite A200-1DR (with 1Go DDR2 RAM) and it is 5days old. I bought another 1Go of RAM from Corsair (DDR2 PC5300 5-5-5-12 like the first one). The problem is that with the two memories the notebook doesn't boots, or cans boot when the quiet boot option is on in the BIOS, but windows Vista refuse to go or restore.
I also tested the Corair Memory alone on the first memory slot of the notebook, and it works perfectly (vista and memtest86).

So I tried both memories alone on the second memory slot of the notebook, and both are not working: with the quiet boot option on vista can't go and memtest86 freeze after 1s. When the quiet boot option is off, the memory test of the bios freeze at 256Mo (with the 2 memories it freeze at 512Mo).

To me it's seems to be a BIOS bug, do you have any information on such bugs?
Thanks in advance

Answer:Boot problem after RAM upgrade on Satellite A200-1DR

Hi,

man thats no bios bug. Did you ever heard from compatibility issues between memory modules? The strange thing is that memory modules which can even have the same specs must not work together when they are not compatible to each other.
You have two different manufacturers which use different modules and pcb?s (printed circuit board).

So if you gonna tell me which manufacturer is of the stock module I will tell you they are not compatible since I really good know that corsairs work only properly and good when you install two corsair modules (or how I would like to say. TWO MODULES OF THE SAME MANUFACTURER).

Thats it, and it?s the same story in desktops. I have two desktops in my office at home and one of that is for over-clocking. I had many modules in my machine so I had many problems when pairing two different modules. And thats the thing why I am telling you that, because I really have some knowledge about that thingys. :)

Just purchase another corsair modules and put your stock module on ebay. You will see how your machine will work. Or do it better, bring the corsair back, sell your stock module on ebay and purchase some pair of finest kingston modules you can get since that modules absolutely have no problems with compatibility.

Thats my opinion. And nothing with some bios bugs or whatever....

Yoo should try search first, because I remember this topic. And no, it is not possible to upgrade graphic card, because it is part of the mainboard and it is not like easy or intended to change graphic cards.

I think if you really want to have more performance, at least for games, then you have to look for an other machine like the Qosmio ones.
Sorry to tell you that, but those days it is impossible. Maybe it will be with future notebooks but, who knows?

Hi there!

I have a +*Satellite A200-1AG*+. I'm planing to upgrade the memory to 4GB. Mine uses +(2x1GB) DDR2-667Mhz+ and I've seen that 2 modules of +2GB DDR2-667Mhz+ cost the same as +2x2GB DDR2-800+. Will I benefit in any way from that upgrade? Can I damage my laptop? I've heard that my laptop will run anyway at 667MHz, but I will like to know your views on it before I purchase it.

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A200-1AG - Which memory modules for upgrade?

Hi

You can buy both module types. The point is that the fastest modules (DDR2-800) always downgrade compatible to lower system speed. This would mean that the modules will run at 667MHz.

So you don?t destroy your notebook, it?s just a feature. Everything will work properly.

As far as I know your notebook can runs at 667MHz speed.

Hi,
I have a Toshiba A200-13R laptop with a built in Integrated Intel graphic Card.
Is there a product sort of an external graphic card from nVidia that I can use to upgrade my video card, like an external video card?

If not, please provide solutions.

Regards,
Hadi Ahmed

Answer:Satellite A200-13R - Is upgrade of graphic card possible

Hi

The GPU (graphic card upgrade) is not possible because the chip is mounted and fixed on the motherboard?
You should know that a notebooks motherboard design layout is different as the desktop PC mobo? the notebooks motherboard are already configured and it?s not possible to change parts like GPU or CPU (in most cases)?

I googled a little bit around and didn?t find any external graphic cards from nVidia. I found other products but to be honest I?m not sure if you will get an performance improvements using such external cards.

Hello,

After SP3 upgrade of XP I have problem with TFncky.

_System_:
- A200/PSAE7
- XP Pro (2x XP with OS selector, 1st XP main OS, 2nd XP for gaming)

_Problem_:
After XP startup of my main XP installation I always get an error message pop-up stating that there is prob with TFncKy and TFncKy has to be stopped. As "problem signature" I get following:

+AppName: tfncky.exe AppVer: 3.22.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll+
+ModVer: 5.1.2600.5512 Offset: 00012ace+

Using one of following keys on keyboard always results in above described error pop-up but key are functional:
WinLogo, DEL, HOME, PGUP/-DN, END, right SHIFT, FN + F-Keys etc.

My second XP installation (stripped down for gaming) runs smooth after SP3 upgrade - no error TFncKy related error message.

As my second XP runs without any problems after SP3 I am not sure if the proplem is related with +tfncky.exe+ or +ntdll.dll+.

Btw:
Which driver package includes "tfncky.exe"? Toshiba Controls?

Thanks in advance for any information or hint to solve this problem!

Best regards,
Andreas

Answer:TFncKy.exe problem after XP SP3 upgrade on Satellite A200

Hi,

the problem was already discussed in another thread: http://forums.computers.toshiba-europe.com/forums/thread.jspa?threadID=18082

The last post was probably the solution for the whole case. The user mentioned the "TfncKy.exe" belongs to the Toshiba Hotkey utility which must only be removed and reinstalled to resolve that issue.

Additionally it would make sense to perform a registry check with e.g. CCleaner before reinstalling the Hotkey Utility.

Cheers

Hey there, regarding Windows 7.

I have purchased my laptop model which is Toshiba Satellite A200-1M8 in year 2007.

I want to know first:

If i'm able to upgrade it for free or for money according to Windows Vista to Windows 7 upgrade thing you offer, if yes to which Version of windows 7 it will be upgraded (Home, Professional, etc..)

If not, can I order Toshiba to make a Recovery DVD for Windows 7 specially for my laptop version and if yes, to which version of Windows 7 will toshiba give me?

Regards.

Answer:Satellite A200-1M8 - Can I get a Windows 7 upgrade disk?

Hi

All informations that you want to know you can find on the Windows 7 upgrade page:
http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Windows 7 Learn More

As you can see a free upgrade is only possible on notebooks purchased from June 26, 2009 to January 31, 2010.
Furthermore your model isn?t Windows 7 supported. There is only a limited driver support for a clean Windows 7 installation and so you can?t get a Windows 7 disk from Toshiba.

But all these informations are already on the Toshiba page ;)

Hii!

Im thinking of upgrading to windows vista on my Satellite Pro A200-16N, and i've ran the windows vista upgrade checker from the microsoft website and it says my system will support windows vista so im ok on that.

The problem is, if my laptop were to break or something like that at some point, will my recovery CD's that was supplied from toshiba still work on the laptop with windows vista?
Will they return the laptop to windows xp or since my laptop has a different operating system will they not work?

Also...
Whats the deal with BIOS?:S
I dont understand!
If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
As i have to download the new drivers before upgrading yes?

Thanks!

Answer:Satellite Pro A200-16N: Can I use Recovery CD after upgrade to Vista

Of course the Recovery CD will work.
The Recovery CD will set always the notebook back to the factory settings. This means that the whole HDD will be formatted and the Toshiba image will be installed.

> Whats the deal with BIOS? I don?t understand!
> If i were to upgrade to windows vista should i update my BIOS before or after upgrading to vista?
In my knowledge this notebook was already delivered with Vista therefore you don?t need to update the BIOS if you want to install Vista again.

Some A200 Satellite series needs a BIOS update if you want to use the XP.
In such case it?s advisable to update the BIOS to XP version firstly and then to install X OS.

I read several times that I can install 4gb ram in this laptop (2 2gb) but it only works with 2gb.

http://www.corsair.com/configurator/system_results.aspx?id=63820

I bought it here:
http://www.speichermarkt.de/show.cgi?ID=toshiba_satellite_a_200_1_cr_a_200_1_c c.htm&SNO=00000886

I know that the Toshiba website says it would only accept max. 2gb.
Both 2gb ram work, I tested both of them seperate. Also 2gb plus 512MB won't work. So is it true that it only accepts 2gb? I run Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
Thanks a lot for your help! I'm almost about to send the other 2gb ram back, but I would really like to make it work! ;-)

Answer:Satellite A200-1CC doesn't start after 4GB RAM upgrade

This model has a Pentium DualCore T2080 CPU, which is limited to 2GB max RAM. The models with a Core2Duo (T7xxx series) usually support 4GB or RAM.

So the optimal solution would be to use 2 x 1GB RAM Modules.

You may have luck getting one 2GB module working with a 1GB module in the second slot, but its not recommended and may be unstable or cause other problems.

Installing Vista 64bit wont help. Its a limitation of the CPU/Chipset.

Hello

I have a Satellite Pro A200 (PSAF4A) with a Intel Celeron M 540 (1.86GHz) processor and a Mobile Intel(R) 965 Express Chipset Family.
I have upgraded the RAM but that just is not enough performance for me as its limited to 2GB.
I know Toshiba won't admit it but I have heard people have upgraded this type of processor before. I cannot afford a new Laptop altogether but will settle for what upgrades I can get.

My questions are;

Are there any companies in New Zealand that can upgrade my processor and/or my Chipset?

I have also noticed that the space for the second HDD has no mounts or anyway to add another HDD, is this because of my Laptop or is this a manufacturing flaw?

Are there also companies who can add these mounts to my board so I can have a second HDD?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200 (PSAF4A) - CPU and chipset upgrade

First of all the chipset is not upgradeable. It?s soldered on the mainboard and can?t be exchanged. Furthermore about the CPU upgrade you should read this article that I have founded in the FAQ area:
http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/TSB9401AX0001R01.htm
The point is that the new CPU must be supported from the mainboard, BIOS and chipset and this is not so easy.

Installing a second HDD is no problem if you have a second HDD connector (as far as I know SATA) in the second HDD bay. I think some models of the Satellite Pro A200 were equipped with a second HDD and some other notebooks are not. So if you have connector in the bay you can install an additional HDD.

Maybe stupid comment from me but noting is broken and must not be fixed. Problem is hardware compatibility. If some hardware component is not compatible it will not work.

Is it posible to upgrade this card for me to play the MSTS game?

Answer:Is it possible to upgrade the graphic card in Satellite A200-195

Generally it?s not possible to upgrade the graphic cards installed in the notebooks!!!
The notebook technology is simply different!!!
The graphic card is fixed on the motherboard and it?s not possible to remove it on a simple way.

I always recommend using desktop PC for game playing!!!
If you need the computer for hardcore gaming you should buy a desktop.
Why??? Because the newest games need mostly the strongest graphic card and the desktop PC can be upgraded much easily as a notebook.

But finally it?s your choice what you will use ;)

Although the [specifications|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/jsp/productPage.do?service=UK&PRODUCT_ID=131911] says my Sat-Pro A200 (PSAE7) comes with Toshiba DVD player, it is *NOT* installed in my device. I have also looked inside the Recovery disk that comes with the laptop, but cannot see anything obvious to click to install the player.

Please could anyone help and tell me how to install this DVD player?

Answer:Question about DVD Player on Satellite Pro A200 PSAE7

It?s a little bit strange?
On the Toshiba European driver page I could find the Toshiba DVD player software.
It?s a DVD Player version 1.10.06
So I presume it should be preinstalled on the Toshiba notebook.

The recovery CD which was delivered together with the notebook contains a Toshiba image. This image should support the Windows OS, All Toshiba driver, tools, utilities and additional software.
Please insert the Recovery CD into the CD/DVD drive and boot from this CD.

This procedure will format the whole HDD and will install the OS again on the notebook.
After a new installation please check if the Toshiba DVD player is available!!!

Answer:Question about Battery & Cooler at Satellite A200-14D

Hi

> How long hold battery (6-cell) at the A200-14D???

It depends on the notebook usage and battery type? if you will run any applications which need CPU and graphic performance or will watch DVD movies then the battery working time would be much shorter.
But 1h 50min is not bad?

I found a compatible Battery Pack PA3535U-1BRS for this unit. It?s a Li-Ion, 9 Cell, 6000mAh battery and the performance should be better.

If you have bought a SATA 2.5? HDD then I don?t see any serious reasons why this HDD should not work.

After the HDD has been replaced, boot from Toshiba Recovery disk and follow the instruction on the screen. The HDD should be formatted during the setup procedure?
That?s should function?

2. This BIOS version is offered for days and it is possible that many people already tried it. By the way: before Toshiba release something it is tested and checked.

Hello,

I bought 5 months ago a Satellite A200-1M5 notebook, but I face some strange and annoying inconsistencies such as blue screen after start up, inconsistencies with several programs or devices, finds sole registry keys, problem with microsoft register server, Mp Telemetry and other inexplicable things that make you angry. Apart from that, Vista are so heavy for "only" 1024mb memory.

For all the above, I was strongly thinking to change my operating system from Vista to the more consistent and light XP. However, I don't have any idea if the machine will cooperate fine with XP. Will anything work correctly? Any inconsistency? Someone, told me that perhaps the Toshiba flash cards case will not work. But if so, how can I manipulate for example brightness? Will FN combination work?

Thanx in advance for the help

Answer:Question about changing Vista to XP on Satellite A200

I think your machine should work well with WXP. Many people use WXP on newest and different Satellite or Equium A200 notebooks. Before you start make BIOS update to WXP designed version. It must be 5.xx. Check it out!

For WXP installation use WXP SP2 installations CD. All necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can find on Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

BTW: before you start check some threads here about WXP installation on A200 notebooks. You can find much useful stuff.

HI,

"The current graphics display driver cannot be used. It was written for a previous version of Windows, and is no longer compatible with this version of Windows. The system has been started using the default VGA driver."

Any help with this would be appreciated. I don't know much about computers in general. Spoke to a tech at work and he told me my drivers are probably out of whack and I should be able to find updated ones online.

It seems that the Satellite A200-BB5 belongs to Toshiba Canadian notebook series.

The latest drivers should be placed here:

If you will still get this error message, then I recommend checking 3rd part webpages for a compatible driver.

Answer:Question about memory frequency on Satellite A200-1GH

That normal, since your CPU is working with a FSB of 533 which does not mean that the FSB rises if you install faster modules. Why do you think, does tosh install such modules if the CPU would be capable of more FSB.
IF the CPU would be capable to run on a higher FSB then why don?t they install faster modules? Because the CPU does only run on a FSB of 533.

Here?s a site which shows the FSB of your CPU -> http://www.intel.com/products/processor_number/chart/coreduo.htm

Yours is the core2duo mobil "T2450".

I 'd like to know if toshiba recomments a way to fill and empty the battery so it holds the same time, with the years passing......
In the first battery i was filling and emptying it full, 5-6 times a week and laptop was on ac adapter the rest time.....
But is there a way to use battery and power adapter armonically without destroying time that battery holds.....

What should i do????
Keep it always on the power adapter?
Full the battery and emptying it continuesly?

What i sure now is that i must not put it in a closet..... then i should throw it....
What is your opinion????

Sorry for my english.....

Answer:Battery usage question on Satellite A200-1CR

Hi

First of all you have to know that all batteries are covered by warranty for 12 month (one year) and sooner all later all batteries must be replaced because after a long time of usage every battery will lose the performance.

Well, you want to know how to handle the battery?
To be honest I?ve got 3 notebooks and I never removed the battery if the AC adaptor has been plugged in.
But if you want you can use the notebook without the battery if the AC adaptor is connected but there is a risk that the notebook would power off if you disconnect the cable accidentally.

However, the new battery generation is more stable as the early notebook batteries and usually it?s not necessary to remove it when AC has been plugged in.
In my opinion it should not affect the battery performance.

Cheers

I have a Satellite A200-221 (PSAE3E) which motherboard is faulty. I sent it to Toshiba official support and they confirmed that the motherboard is faulty and I had to buy a new one. It was too expensive, so I didn't let them repair my laptop.

Now I saw on ebay a motherboard which is the model I need (ISKAA LA-3481P) but I'm not sure if it fits because the part number of the processor is not the same as mine. Mine is K000058130. Ebay's motherboard is K000057340.

Will that board replace perfectly mine faulty motherboard?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Question about part numbers

Hey,

I?m a little bit confused about your posting. Why you talk about a processor number if you need a new mainboard?

Anyway, here it?s an user forum. That means you can talk with normal people like you and me here. Such questions about part numbers can only be answered from an authorized service provider because they have access to all Toshiba databases.

Hi there,

did you already performed a BIOS update? It would be useful, maybe it?s just because the BIOS does not support Ultimate correctly. Which drivers did you download?

It?s a little bit tricky but I think if you reinstall it and then put the drivers on it, it should work. Remember: Vista Ultimate needs a lot of resources and has a lot of unnecessary stuff which can cause the machine not working properly.
