No DVD-ROM after Recovery - Satellite A100-289

Question: No DVD-ROM after Recovery - Satellite A100-289

I recently had my A100-289 shipped in for repair. Few days later the unit came back to me with a new motherboard.
Unfortunately my OS did not start up any more, so I recovered it from the DVD.

Upon completion of the recovery process, Windows MCE prompted with the "Found New Hardware"-Wizard, that wanted to install a driver for the DVD drive. Usually you don't need drivers for these, do you?

After unsuccessfully searching the net for several hours, I tried to recover once again, so maybe the problem would disappear all by itself, but this was unfortunately not the case, not even after the third recovery.

I tried installing from a clean install disc I was using on my desktop PC before, just to see if it works and uninstall it afterwards. What can I say? It did not work anyway :(
I am writing this from said notebook on which I have Mandriva Linux 2008 installed as secondary OS. The DVD-Drive does work flawlessly here.

I conclude this must be a software issue, that has to do with Windows Maybe there is a way to solve it, but I did not get a working solution yet, though I tried uninstalling and reinstalling both driver and drive several times without any success.

Any ideas?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: No DVD-ROM after Recovery - Satellite A100-289

Hi

First of all if you are able to install any of the OS then the CD/DVD drive works and surely it?s not a hardware issue.
So after the installation of the recovery CD you should check the device manger if there are any yellow exclamation marks.
Then you should remove the drive from the device manager and should access the registry.

There remove the Upperfilters and Lowerfilters values completely from the following registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

and then reboot the notebook.

Good luck

Hi all,

here is my GOAL: I want to reinstall the original Windows Vista as it was when we bought that laptop.

My PROBLEM: we never succeeded to create that recovery DVDs (just after the purchase), always gave an error... today and to my surprise, I cannot find any recovery tool from the OS either...

1- At power off/on: I tried the "0" key (as read in internet) but did not do anything special..

2- I tried then from this options menu (after F8 at reboot): REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER
Then (after choosing spanish language and logging as user) I tried to lo launch the WINDOWS COMPLETE RESTORE but it said that no CD/DVD found ....(no current issue with this CD/DVD player = working fine)

3- I tried then the other interesting option : HHD RECOVERY (More or less like this, as I have it in spanish version)...Just a pop-up opened (maybe about the recovery DVDs) but without any buttons to follow the process....

Trickier situation now, isn't it?

4- INFO:
I could find the hidden partition and unhide it. It contains folder and files: a 'source' folder, 'boot.sdi' file if I remember well..and maybe more..
=> I copied them on a USB key and recorded as well on a new DVD (and the image.iso of them as well) and repeat the above points 2 and 3, but nothing changed...(the content of this DVD is read without any problem on another laptop)

=> QUESTIONS:
- This folder and files (found in hidden partition) means that the recovery is still there?
- Is there a sp... Read more

Answer:Satellite A100-999: Recovery process (without recovery DVD/CDs) ?

I understand now that these files (in hidden partition) are those used for showing this special menu (after clicking REPAIR MY COMPUTER) with WINDOWS COMPLETE RESTORE, HHD RECOVERY, ...

Is that right?

Then I suppose that I should have a RECOVERY folder somewhere..but I read in some posts that comment type :"the A100 series has not been equipped with the HDD recovery partition"

If not available then, I'm already then on this last-chance-step explained above? this means to order the recovery DVD on [https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx]

anyway, I'm waiting for some feedback from you guys...

Hello guys

I had a few questions about the recovery CD:

1- What does the recovery CD contain? and the other CD which is called Media something?

2- Does it have Windows in it? So I can format my PC using it? And from where can i find the product key (windows key)

3- What if i wanted to use the CD without formatting? etc. installing the softwares?

Sorry for asking too much but my laptop started disturbing me. Just for knowledge my Laptop is satellite A100-847

Answer:What does the recovery CD contain - Satellite A100-847

Hello

I will try to answer your question.

1 ? Recovery media contains recovery image. Recovery image is a kind of package that contains operating system, all necessary drivers, Toshiba tools and utilities and some additional software like WinDVD or Norton antivir application. ?Media something?? is not known to me. Maybe exact description can help.

2 ? Yes it has Windows OS. Yes you can format your notebook using it. You do not need product key. Just install it.

3 ? I do not know what you mean. The fact is that HDD will be formatted before you start recovery installation. Be sure all your important data are saved on some external device.

Bye

Hello Sara

The fact is you must bootup the unit using recovery media. With simply words: put recovery media into DVD drive and switch OFF the unit. After few seconds switch the unit ON and press immediately C button and keep it down for 10 or 15 seconds.

This will force the unit to use DVD drive as first bootable device. When you see activity on the screen please follow the instructions. If you need more info about recovery procedure write again.

If you don't have original Toshiba recovery disc you can install supported operating system using Microsoft installations CD.
All drivers, tools and utilities for your Satellite A100 you can download from Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.

I don't know if you can order recovery for this notebook model but check it under https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

I want to restore my Toshiba Satellite A100 laptop to its original factory state, but the recovery DVD that comes with the package does not work...

I load it in, start up computer, and press F12, and it boots from DVD. It says "Loading RAMDISK Image", after which I am told by Toshiba customer service there should be options for me to wipe the hard drive or restore Windows XP.

However, after RAMDISK is loaded, I see a mouse cursor on a black screen, and then the laptop shuts down and restarts. After logging in, NO CHANGES have been made...

What is wrong with this? How do i really use this recovery DVD?
Someone please help me.

Thank you.

Answer:Satellite A100: Recovery DVD will not work

Hi

The recovery procedure is not difficult.
Simply try to boot up from the recovery CD or DVD and follow the guide line on the display.

Your problem is very strange?. Did you created any partitions on the HDD?
I really don?t know why your recovery CD doesn?t work properly but I think you should try to format completely the HDD (also the partitions) and then try to boot up from the recovery CD.

Be sure that the notebook is in the boot mode. (don?t mix the stand by or hibernation mode)

Hello people!

Well i've had my Toshiba A100 Satellite for nearly 1 year, and I've got these un-removable spyware and ad-aware. But besides that, i want to reformat my pc but i can't. When i choose the cd-rom drive for the booting device, it loads RAM disk image, it comes up with an instant message and then it disappears, but I noted to see F6 and so I reloaded the DVD again and I spammed F6. And this is what comes up:

"Setup could not determine the type of computer you have, or you have chosen to manually specify the computer type.
Select the type from the following list, or select 'other' if you have a device support disk provided by your computer manufacturer.

ACPI multiprocessor PC
ACPI uniprocessor PC
Advanced configuration and power interface (ACPI)PC
NPS uniprocessor PC
NPS multiprocessor PC
Standard PC
Other"

I was thinking, if i use System Mechanics or something else, can i just reformat with that fully and then i use the toshiba recovery cd and i'm thinking that the cd will have windows xp. Can i just install windows xp from there and then get all the toshiba utilities off the download site and install them? Or like does it have to install the display drivers with the recovery cd or i can't see anything and i will stuff my pc up? Lol usually everytime i try sumfin to help my pc i usually wreck it. So i still got warranty so i might even take it back to there. But i would appreciate it if you guys could help.

Thanks

Adam

Answer:Recovery error on Satellite A100

Hello Adam

Honestly, your posting is so complicated and confusing for me that I will just try to explain you how you can install OS on your Satellite A100.

If you want to install operating system you can do this on two ways:
- Use delivered recovery DVD put it in ODD and shut down the unit. Switch it ON again and immediately press C button. Keep it down for a short time and the ODD will be forced to be first booting device. When installations procedure starts just follow menu on the screen.
- You can use Microsoft installations CD (full version). Install OS and after that you must install all drivers, tools and utilities manually. All stuff you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com ? Support & Downloads

Before you format HDD try to create own Tools & Utilities CD. This option you can find under Toshiba Assist ? Protect & Fix tab.

That?s all! If I have misunderstood something please post again.

I have 20 TOSHIBA Laptops in my office. I have recovery CD for all laptops kept together. Now I want to reinstall my A100-234 laptop.

How will i identify the recovery CD for that laptop.

I tried using 3 diffrent recovery CDs. With all CDs Installation completes successfully and is asked for reboot. But system does not boot.

Any suggestions?

Answer:Satellite A100-234: How to identify the right Recovery CD

This particular laptop comes with Microsoft Office Onenote preinstalled on it which will be on the recovery disc, look on the back of the CD cover for the recovery and there will be a product key for Onenote. If any of your recoveries do not have this product key on the back then it rules them out. At least this will help you narrow down the choice of recoveries to choose from

Hope this helps a bit.

I have a satellite a100-192 with 100gb hard drive.
When i bought it i used norton partion magic 8.0 to divide the disk into two partitions, c drive (used for program files and stuff; 20 gb), and d drive which i use for all my documents, music, videos and similar stuff...

and now, because of some bad moves i made (installing bad software..lol) i want to reinstall windows. and honestly, i have no idea how to do this. what i mean, i'm not sure which cd to use (i've got two cds when i bought the computer), actually i suppose it's the one with ms one note on it, but how to do it safely without loosing all my data on d drive?

The problem is that i've done plenty of reinstalls on desktop computers when you hava clean instalations, and then i know what i'm doing, but i don't have any experience with bundled windows instalations.

Answer:How to use the Recovery CD on Satellite A100-192 with 2 partitions

Hi

Usually the Toshiba notebooks are delivered with a Toshiba recovery CD.
On this CD you will find the Toshiba image which contains all the Toshiba drivers and utilities.

The question is what image CD you received.
Some people here in the forum have suggested that since January 2006 the Toshiba recovery CD supports another recovery procedure. The new recovery CD does not support the ghost but the RECO surface and it?s not possible to choose the partition for the OS installation.
In such case the whole HDD will be erased and you will lose all your partitions.

I have only a old recovery CD and therefore I can not say if it?s possible to choose the right partition. It was possible on the old recovery cd by choosing the ?expert mode?.

I think you should make a backup of you all important files before starting the recovery procedure.

Hi Guys.
First timer here.
I've been reading some of the Q&A about problems with rebooting the A100 from the recovery DVD.
It seems I have the same problems as keith.

I want to completely start the OS over and my laptop will not boot from the DVD.
Tried the standard f12 boot from cd option. tried the 'hold down C on startup option'.
Both options end with no joy.

The screen appears that says 'loading ramdisk image' , the machine loads, pauses, asks me to wait, then every time the same.
The screen goes black, flashes white very quickly and then loads from the hdd as per normal.

Trying now to hold my frustration and not do anything radical.
I know in the previous Q&A, the topic is considered answered......
any other options?

My next thoughts are to remove/uninstall almost every thing and try and force the thing to boot from the DVD.
have also copied the dvd and tried to boot from the copy, still with no joy.

Are there any other suggestions?

Is it possible to put a partition in the existing drive and boot the recovery dvd into there, then erase the unwanted from the original section of the drive, then remove the partition?

is it possible to shut down all but the essential processes and format the HDD?

is it possible to reset the HDD somehow?

cheers,
Martin

Answer:Satellite A100: Will not boot from recovery DVD

Hello Martin

To be honest it is pretty strange issue. There is one thing I am interesting for:
Is this first time you try to use recovery media for OS installation?

If possible try to obtain Microsoft installations CD/DVD to see if the same will happen.

Anyway I will try to give you answers to your questions.
>Is it possible to put a partition in the existing drive and boot the recovery dvd into there, then erase the unwanted from the original section of the drive, then remove the partition?
This will not work. On recovery media there is recovery image and this image must be installed properly. You can not "recover DVD into there". No way

>is it possible to shut down all but the essential processes and format the HDD?
I would like to know what you understand under "essential processes"?

>Is it possible to reset the HDD somehow?
You can not do this somehow. If you want to "reset" HDD you must delete existing partition or erase whole OS installation. After doing this you must install OS again. All this will be done at the beginning of recovery procedure.

I really do not understand what is wrong there. Please answer to my first question and we will continue this discussion. ;)

Answer:Can I use the Recovery for A100 on Satellite L300?

I don?t think that your A100 recovery disk will run on L300.
Both notebooks are completely different and were equipped with different hardware specifications and therefore the drivers which are on the A100 will be not compatible with L300.

Furthermore I doubt that you will be able to perform the Recovery setup using the A100 disk on L300. Usually you should get an error message.

Answer:Satellite A100 - WXP Recovery DVD Installation via USB

As far as I know it doesn?t work on this way and recovery image can be installed with bootable recovery disc. You cannot so simply copy all files to USB stick and install recovery image.

This should be easy kind of manipulation that can be used on different notebook models. Please note before recovery image installation starts data in recovery image and data saved on mainboard must be compared and if this doesn?t match you will not be able to install recovery image.

ODD for this old notebook model is not expensive. You can find used one on ebay and replace it alone. If you need some assistance we can help you.

Hi,

I own a Satellite A100 with XP on which I want to format my HD and reinstall everything from the original recovery disk that came with my pc. When I insert the recovery disk and reboot, press F12 and boot from CD/DVD, it loads ramdrive, then the screen goes blank and it finaly boot from the HD. So I changed the boot sequence in the Bios to make it boot first from CD/DVD and second HD. Thinking this way it will have no other choice than booting from this recovery disk. Now what is happening is it loads Ramdrive, the screen goes blank and restarts the boot sequence. It's looping on this sequence: ramdrive, blank and restart... and never stops!

Can somebody help me please?

Answer:Satellite Pro A100 - No Recovery CD - Can I use the Toshiba key?

Hi

The serial key which you have found at the bottom of the unit belongs to the preinstalled Toshiba Windows OS and it?s a OEM key which will NOT work with other Windows XP disks.

This mean that if you want to install the Windows XP on this notebook then you have to purchase the Toshiba Recovery disk again from the ASP in your country or you will take a original Microsoft Win XP disk and will use this disk and the key which belongs to this Win XP OS.

You?ve got these two options.

Hi fellas,

My laptop (8 months old) has been crashing (Windows XP) lately and I tried using the product recovery CD but nothing happened (The laptop couldn't boot from the CD, instead it boots back to the login window for WXP). When I opened the CD on the windows explorer, then I realized that it was empty. Is it suppose to be empty?

Though the laptop came with a second CD, "Express Media Player Recovery CD", I believe that will be for recovery of the pre-installed softwares that came with the system.

I guess I can contact Toshiba for another free Product recovery CD (or are they suppose to be two?) as my system is still under warranty.

Please I need a confirmation on this asap.

Hi.

Had a couple of probs with my laptop and decided to recover it using another pc recovery disk.
The laptop I am recovering is a Toshiba a100 549. Unfortunately for some reason I can not find any disks that were originally with it.

The opertaing system is Windows xp. The disks that I recovered it with was Vista.
It loads up ok but goes to a blue screen after approx 30 seconds and restarts. Is there any reason for this and is there anything that I can do.

I think that I may need to get hold of a correct disk and load it on again.
Has anyone got copies of the disks for this laptop and able to send me them. I will gladly pay for them.......

Colin

Answer:Satellite A100-549: BSOD after using recovery from another PC

Hi

Don?t user recovery disk from other PC because this will not work.
You can use an clean Windows OS disk or the Toshiba recovery disk.

Why? Because the recovery disk contains an image. Image is a package containing Windows OS, drivers and other software.
If you would use the recovery disk from another PC then all drivers, tools and software released for this PC will be loaded on your Toshiba notebook.
This can cause the BSOD!

So if you don?t have the Toshiba recovery disk then you should use MS Windows CD!
Necessary Toshiba drivers can be downloaded from Toshiba page!

Answer:Satellite A100-139 - Can I download the recovery disk?

Hi Michele,

Sorry, but you can?t download a Toshiba recovery disk. If you have lost your CDs they come with the notebook you have to contact an authorized service provider to get new disks.
On the Toshiba website you can find a list of ASP?s. You can phone them and e. g. they can sent you the disks.

What Microsoft product key you mean?
The product key on the bottom side of the notebook is an OEM key and belongs to the preinstalled Windows. It can?t be used with a Microsoft disk.

I am wanting to format and reinstall windows back to its factory state as its running really slow. I dont recall on having a recovery cd on buying and was told i just need to push an F key on boot up as recovery files are on hard drive. Is this correct?

Answer:Re: Toshiba Satellite A100-332 Recovery Question

No this is not correct. On this older notebook model Toshiba didn?t offered HDD recovery image. Recovery image is saved on DVD media. When you want to install recovery image using DVD recovery media you can use F button at the startup.

To install HDD recovery (if saved on HDD) there is another way to do this.
So what you can do is to order original recovery media or install operating system using Microsoft installations CD/DVD.

I have got satellite A100-784 but I lost the recovery disk and I want to restore the PC

what should I do?

pleas help me

Answer:Satellite A100-784 - I lost the recovery disk

You should contact the ASP in your country if you want to order a new one.

But if you want to restore only the installed OS then you could use also an clean Windows CD.
After the Windows installation you could download the Toshiba drivers from the Toshiba European driver page!!

When I bought my Toshiba laptop I was given a Product Recovery disc with it.
At first, I thought this was recovery of all of Windows XP (operating system that was preinstalled) but on the back cover of the case it only says "Windows Office One Note"

So is this product recovery for One Note only?

I am trying to reload a Satellite A100 with the recovery DVD that was created when I first started up the laptop when bought it new 11 months ago.

I have changed the boot order so that the DVD is first and when restarting, the drive runs up to speed so it is working

No option is presented to be able to boot from this disc (like the usual "press any key to reboot from DVD")

If I press F8 when booting I get a list of optiosn headed by REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER which is highlighted.
I then press ENTER and get a message "Windows is Loading Files"
The system recovery options are then displayed, keyboard layout, then logon, which I do using an administrator account.
I am then presented with a screen with 6 System Recovery options
- Startup repair
- System restore - restore to an ealier point in time
- Windows Complete PC restore ( from backup)
- Windows memory Diagnostics
- Command Promt
- Restoriing the complete Windows operating system

There are 2 buttons {color:#000000}*_S_hut Down*{color} and *_R_estart*

When I select the last option all I get is another screen with the message
*Restoring the complete Windows oprtating System*

If pre-installed files are damaged you can use the Product Recvoery DVD-Rom to restore them (which is what I am trying to do)

Answer:Recovery DVD created but Satellite A100 will not boot

Hello

Sorry but you have misunderstood something. I will try to be clear now:

- Using recovery CD/DVD you CAN NOT repair already preinstalled operating system. Using recovery CD/DVD you can make clean OS installation only. Please note that before installation procedure starts old OS will be deleted.
- Reading your posting I think you try to use original Microsoft Vista options and not recovery image because when you start recovery procedure there are no 6 different menus

Can you please tell me what is wrong with your Satellite A100? Which files you try to repair? What happen when your notebook starts?

Hey guys,

I'm currently trying to reformat/reinstall Windows on my A100 notebook. There's nothing wrong with it, I just wanted a clean install. I'm using the recovery disc and booting up the laptop via the DVD drive. It reads the DVD fine as I get the "Loading RAMDisc Image" or whatever, and the bars fill up and loads. After that, I see a cursor with a black background and then after a few seconds, the laptop restarts and brings me back to the Toshiba boot screen again. Does anyone know what's wrong?

I've used the disc before and it worked fine. The only difference between then and now is that I partitioned my hard drive into three sections (Windows XP, Windows Vista, Misc File Storage), but I don't think that'd be a problem.

In addition, if using the recovery disc doesn't work, is there another way to wipe the hard drive clean and start fresh? (Ie, reformat the whole computer and reinstall my OS?)

Thanks in advance!

Answer:Satellite A100 - Recovery Disc looping

That happened to my laptop. To fix the problem, I deleted all the non-DOS partitions on the HDD using FDISK, and then ran Recovery successfully.

You can download free DOS boot disks from www.bootdisk.com (choose the Win98SE custom floppy disk, it will have FDISK).

Answer:I want to Remove the 1.5 GB recovery partition of my Satellite A100-786

Hi,

why do you want to remove that partition? Because of additional harddisk space you will gain?? For the cost of a really nice and comfortable recovery system which is really good? Postpone, if your system has some serious problems and you want to recover your machine, what will you do then?

So if you are really sure that you want do it, then make it like following described:

Grab a cd-image of the windows-live-cd "UBCD4Win" (http://www.ubcd4win.com/), burn it to cd, boot it and modify your partitions with it, should work withour problems.

Hi.
I have an A100 from Germany and i wand to change it in English. Were can i get english recovery disk? Can i compile one myself?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite A100: Need English recovery CD instead of German

Hi Philip,

You will need to approach a UK based Authorised Service Partner in order to get a recovery CD in English for you A100.

You will not be able to compile one yourself because the recovery CD contains a 'ghost' image of the complete installation, so unless you already have an English operating system installed you will not be able to create a recovery CD.

You could, of course, obtain a Windows installation CD in English and use that to install on your A100 and then download the English tools and Utilities from the Toshiba web-site.

I am working on a A100-197 that would not boot into ordinary Windows but was able to boot into Safe mode.
I used MSConfig to turn off everything at startup and all non-MS services. No good.
I used system restore. No good.
I scanned for viruses, rootkits etc. None found. No good.
I copied data to another hard drive using safe mode with networking and inserted the recovery DVD.
Went through unpacking and got message telling me to remove DVD - did this and system appeared to freeze.
Hit the exit button and it rebooted but Windows froze (the moving blobs stopped moving). Tried safe mode
but got a message saying that the system installation did not finish.
Tried the recovery again but this time I left the unpacking screen at 100% overnight to see if
it did anything. It didn't. Clicked exit and got the same as above.
Formatted HDD in partition magic and tried again. No good.
Created 5GB FAT32 partition and copied DVD files to FAT32 partition. Tried to run the unpacking program
from DOS. It refused to run in DOS mode.
I'm thinking of linking the hdd to another machine and running RecoUnpack.exe from a working PC to
unpack the image files onto the laptop HDD, but this is crazy - the recovery disc is supposed to recover the
system. What else can I try?

Answer:Recovery disc does not work for Satellite A100-197

Hm,

I would say that you have some serious hardware malfunction. Did you already tried to check the RAM and the CPU??
In your case I would try to run the UBCD4Win (www.ubcd4win.com) and use superPI to see if the RAM is defective.

It could be also another component like the mainboard or something on the mainboard (graphics, sound, some capacitor)

It?s just an suggestion but you could really give my hint a chance. ;)
I would also try an other HDD in this machine, maybe the controller of your old HDD is gone..

Hello, my problem is pretty straightforward:

I won't to recover original configuration of my laptop, but my original, factory PR CD won't load.

It seems to be visible on other computers, comp in question has working disc drive (other CD's and DVD work alright) .

But everytime I try to start it, it tries to read it, after a while there's little *bip* sound, drive does some jarring sound, and everything repeats itself...

Disc cannot be even seen by the drive. It was literally never used, and starts on other PCs, so I doubt disc is dysfunctional...

So I'm not really sure WTH may be happening.

Thanks for any help.

Ok I have 2 problems,

2. I tried to use the recovery disc after I couldn't find explorer, and it loaded and everything, then the mouse came up, then about 3 seconds later computer just restarted. This is strange because I have used the recovery disc b4.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A100 Recovery Disc + explorer.exe

No, because the Recovery Disk contains only a image file and it will be not possible to get only the explorer.exe

> 2. I tried to use the recovery disc after I couldn't find explorer, and it loaded and everything, then the mouse came up, then about 3 seconds later computer just restarted. This is strange because I have used the recovery disc b4.
I don?t know how you have used this disk but you can use it only in one way; you can only boot from such Recovery disk and this will lead to new OS installation and the HDD will be formatted too.

If you want to get the OS working then I would recommend either reinstalling the OS or you could set the OS to the early time point.

Hi All,

I am trying to restore my A100 laptop to factory settings *without* a recovery CD via pressing a sequence of keys while booting (which should fire up the recovery partition located on the hard drive).

The truly sad thing is, I know this can be done as I have done it before butI can't for the life of me remember what that key sequence was nor can I find the article that I initially stumbled on!

I have scoured the web looking for this key sequence and all suggested solutions I came across don't seem to work.

Failed attempts so far:
- holding down 0 when powering up
- various suggested "F" keys: F1, F8, F10
- holding down delete

Note: I guess it may be worth mentioning that pressing F8 does in fact take me to the "advanced windows boot options" screen however I don't have any recovery options.

So yeh, I would *hugely* appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction here as it's driving me insane... the fact that I have done this before makes it that much worse!

As far as I know the A100 series has not been equipped with the HDD recovery partition!
And therefore I doubt that any key combination will start the recovery from partition!

Therefore you only chance to recover the notebook is taking the recovery disk and then to boot from it.
You can also try to install the OS from Microsoft Windows disk and then could install the Toshiba drivers from the Toshiba driver website!

Hi,

I own a Satellite A100-237 notebook which, after a long struggle with various virus and trojan attacks, needs a system recovery. I have a 2-CD Product Recovery package with Windows XP Home edition along with SP2 and all the drivers/tools etc. and the process is supposedly pretty straightforward - albeit I have a serious issue at hand: Partitions.

My 80 GB HD is divided in two partitions: A 60 GB C: for the OS and general use and a 20 GB D: for back-ups of EXTREME PROMINENCE. Now that I know that I can use an "expert recovery mode" to recover my system while keeping the back-ups intact. Now that's actually where the problem steps in.

When I boot from the recovery CD there is absolutely NO OPTION FOR AN "EXPERT" RECOVERY MODE!

I'm simply greeted by a language selection screen. Past that is the option to install Windows XP Home in English or localized version (Turkish, in my case), in both cases the entire HD is wiped out. Next to it are an "Abort" button and a "Settings" button. "Abort", well as the label suggests, shuts the computer down. "Settings" on the other hand is more complicated. You are presented with a window with a nice slider which maxes out at 76 GB - you are supposed to set an installation partition of preferred size. However, in this case the whole HD gets wiped out as well - you get only an installation partition and the remaining space simply becomes "Unallocated". I have tri... Read more

Answer:No expert recovery option on Satellite A100-237?

I have contacted the local distributor and various technical service centers - the response is still the same: "A100 series notebooks are not meant to be used with a partitioned disk, use of a partitioned disk will put the machine out of warranty and you will not be eligible for technical support if any problems arise." They "kindly" offered me another Windows XP license for $170, though. And one service center actually offered me a counterfeit copy of the Windows XP CD - they surely haven't met BSA, I say.

All in all I'm between returning the machine for a refund or just picking a sledgehammer and pummeling it to the ground. The second option seems more appealing as the refund grace period has long expired and they'll probably charge me just to dispose of the machine. A computer I can't use with a partitioned disk is little more than a worthless piece of silicon and plastic.

I guess the only remaining "sane" solution is legal action.

But then I have to use a pirated XP to retain my partitions, which puts me under equal liability.

I guess this problem is unsolvable.

EDIT: I absolutely have no idea how and why I have violated the rules of this forum - hence my post is edited by the administrator. Still, I apologize for any violation. I'm unsurprisingly enraged by the current situation and may have made a mistake. Anyway, my stopgap solution is to stick with a non-genuine XP and purchase Vista when it's out. My A100-237 is out-of-t... Read more

I have a Satellite A100 PSAA8A 19Y03Q laptop that i had bought in australia and i brought it vack to singapore.
Currently I am trying to restore my laptop back to factory default but the recovery disk shows a black screen and a mouse cursor before rebooting each time i tried to recover.

My hard disk and recovery disk is working fine. And i have the original toshiba harddisk that came with computer. (I had cloned the original onto a bigger harddisk)
My disk was working 2days ago and had used it to clear my laptop of junk files. But for a reason i had to restore again.
The recovery disk would not go to the screen to selet the recovery method and would keep rebooting. I tried reformating and cloning the old hard disk today but the disk would not work still (Although the clone was able to boot and work like i had left the old harddisk). I checked the harddisk for errors found none and also ran an windows 7 installation which was sucessfull.
I would not waste any money in going to buy a new recovery disk and harddisk as both are working fine. I also did not mishandle the disk within the two days.

Thks in advance, and i would appreciate an answer.

FYI. i am running the cloned image of the old harddisk

Answer:Satellite A100 - Recovery disk loop

Hey,

> My hard disk and recovery disk is working fine
How you can be sure that recovery disk is working fine?

To be honest the story is a little bit confusing but I think it?s a problem of recovery disk if you have checked the HDD for errors and Windows 7 installation was successful.

You should ask an authorized service provider for help, maybe they can exchange the recovery disk but alternative you can use a Windows disk. All drivers and tools you can find on Toshiba page.

Hi,

I upgraded RAM and HDD on a Satellite A100-803 and when I restore Windows Vista from the recovery disk the process goes fine, but after the reboot windows says that "Windows Setup could not configure Windows on this computer?s hardware".

I think that the problem is the one listed here.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2466753/en-us .

But the problem is that in the BIOS I can't change the RAID setting and during recovery install I'm not able to add the required additional drivers.
The new HDD is a WD 500GB driver (WD5000BPVT)

How can I solve this problem?
Thanks in advance
Pau

Answer:Satellite A100-803 - Vista recovery problem

Hi

First of all I don?t think its BIOS problem.
The notebook does not support RAID.

I think the problem is your new HDD size. You upgraded the HDD with 500GB and its bigger than the original HDD equipped in A100.

The point is that a recovery disk creates automatically the partitions on the HDD but due to different HDD size the partitions size would be different too.
I think you will not have the same problems installing Vista or Win 7 using the Microsoft disk

I gave my young niece my old Laptop A100-596 for Christmas.
It was fully functioning on Christmas eve when I boxed it up, in it's original packaging, but by the time my niece logged on it has lost 40GB of data from the C and E drives - everything from the E drive and the dvd drive had ceased to function!

Now no-one has any explanation for this happening, nor any reason why a laptop which has performed faultlessly for 18months should suddenly decide to lose 3/4 of the data on it, but whatever!

So I now want to restore it to factory settings, but without a working dvd, how? I have all the relevant discs in pristine condition!
In addition, I want to idiot proof it so it can be recovered in the event that nobody or nothing who damaged it this time can't repeat the action.

So I'm thinking that if I partition the hard drive so that the recovery files are only accessible by me with a password, which I will NOT share with any of kids, if they mess it up again, then I will be able to recover it.

By the way even the system restore files have gone, so I can't even roll it back to a working condition!

Any advice?

Answer:How to set Satellite A100-596 to factory settings without Recovery DVD

Hello

You wrote so much and I believe it is the best that we descuss all your questions slowly.

I don't know what do you mean under ?non-working DVD?. Is the optical disc drive defective or DVD media is not readable?

Anyway, the fact is that if you want to have ?factory settings? again you must install operating system using Toshiba recovery DVD. If you don't have it you can make clean OS installation using Microsoft installations DVD. All necessary drivers, tools and Utilities are available on Toshiba support page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > Support & Downloads.

When you use Toshiba recovery media the whole HDD will be erased. Absolutely everything. All partitions and data.
What you want to do with recovery data will unfortunately not work. You cannot copy recovery image and start it from other partition. Not on Satellite A100.

On new A300 something like this is possible because recovery image is stored on second partition in ?HDDRecovery folder?.

If you have more questions please let us know.

What laptop model do you have?

Test the Hard Disk for errors by using DFT.
DFT Download: http://www.hitachigst.com/hdd/support/download.htm#DFT

Download the ISO File and burn it to a CD-R Disc (There is also a Floppy Disk version if that's easier).
Restart your laptop and boot from the DFT Disc.
Choose the "Advanced" Test and let it run (it may take an hour or so).
If you see a red message box, the HDD is faulty.
An error od 0x70 means there are bad sectors and the HDD needs replacing.

STOP:0x0000007B(0xFA335528,0xC0000034,0x00000000,0 x00000000)
I removed memory what I added in the last two years and return the PC into factory stage.
Still, recovery won't finish (it works up to reset).

I'm able to boot into dos with a separate boot disk (dr dos, windows won't boot, even not in the safe command mode) and I did chdsk of the disk and disk is fine.

I never used before recovery disk, the only thing different is BIOS 2.20 instead of 1.50.
TOSHIBA WEB said that if you upgrade BIOS over 2.00 you can not go back to 1.xx

Thank you,

Answer:Satellite A100 - recovery won't finish and stop error occurs

0x0000007B is caused by a problem with the HDD Controller or Driver.

It is commonly caused when Windows cannot find a Driver for the IDE/SATA Controller.
So either you have the wrong Recovery Disc, the BIOS SATA Mode needs to be changed, or the mainboard's IDE/SATA controller has a fault.

Try resetting the BIOS to its default settings.
If the Recovery disc is not the original one that came with the laptop, you may need to get a replacement disc from Toshiba.

Also make sure the HDD is seated/connected properly.

This laptop had the HDD reformatted and I decided to try Windows 7 (beta) which is now installed and operating nicely. I would like to instal the original drivers and applications from the Toshiba recovery disk but I do not want to reinstal the operating system (was XP). Can this be done?

Answer:Satellite A100 PSAA9A - drivers and applications from recovery disk

As far as I know this is not possible because the drivers and applications from the recovery disk are for Windows XP and they are not compatible with Windows 7.
Furthermore it?s not possible to install only special drivers or applications from the recovery disk.

You can download all drivers and tools from the Toshiba website but I doubt that it?s compatible with Windows 7 but you can try it and post here your result.

Hello,

I'm in trouble... I used the recovery CD last week after my laptop developed problems. After the recovery procedure, when i turn on the pc, it loads directly into 'Owner' mode - the internet driver did not load, Norton AV that came with the pc did not load. Basically it's a shadow of its former self!

And when i try and retry the recovery process it does not work...it does not read the disc.
I know that the recovery process did not work properly cos when i look at C: it still shows that 60 Gb of data is present on the hard drive, so the recovery did not clean the hard drive at all.

The only way i can describe it, is that the pc is in some sort of limbo. I can't access the original accounts that i created.

The recovery disc is still okay as i have 'explored' the disc on another computer and it contains all the data.

Please help.

Like you, I can read the DVD in another PC. I wonder if there is a duff batch of recovery DVDs?

I think I'll try installing XP from another installation disc. It'll be a bit of a pain in the neck
because it'll not authenticate with MS, but at least it'll prove whether or not the laptop hardware is duff.

I'll post back here when (if) I get anywhere.

This is the first time I attempted to recover my Toshiba Vista PC.

During recover I got this in the CMD

"C:\boot(something here) Restore Sec. Descriptor. seq. 26 - SACL stays"
"C:\SWStamp.txt Restore Sec. Descriptor. seq 25 - SACL is going away"

1) Is this normal?
2) What does it mean?
3) Did I still do a COMPLETE format?

Thanks a lot guys

Answer:Satellite A100 - weird info messages during recovery process

Hi

During the recover procedure you will see some messages? this is nothing unusual?
Important is that the procedure will not stop but will continue and after some time the Win OS should finish the installation?
Wait a little bit and check if the procedure would finish...

If the procedure would hang, then start the recovery again and boot from the reocvery disk...

Hello friends,

I have Satellite A 100. I was using dual OS - windows vista home edition and Ubuntu. Now I wanted to delete the Ubuntu and so I did the most stupid thing - directly deleting the partition with Ubuntu which had the GRUB files. Then when laptop restarted obviously the Grub bootloader was not there and so computer didnot started or loaded any OS. Then I thought I will reinstall Vista with product recovery CD but the progress reaches to 2% and then I keep on getting Error 1117 a failed to read. I tried so many times without any success. I even tried to install XP but it says Intel boot agent cannot make connection. And it also fails.

Please help to reinstall Vista or XP. I am really stuck and I have learnt a lesson not to fiddle around in laptop when it's not ones cup of tea !!
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks !

Meghal

Answer:Satellite A100: Cannot install recovery after deleting Ubuntu partition

hi meghal,
you successfully killed your vista bootmanager!
this little entry at the beginning of the disk loads up the os loader from vista, it was overwritten by your GRUB installation.

no worry - that's no big deal... reinstall the vista bootmanager or a bootmanager of your choice or do a repair!

how this can be done?!
- the easiest way is to run EasyBCD (search for this, you'll find this one easily)
- reinstall GRUB to get your Vista working (command line is a bit tricky)
- insert vista-dvd and boot into the repair section and reinstall the bootloader

the whole thing can be done in 5 minutes so dont worry.

you can also try to find some howtos in the net... use "reinstall vista bootloader howto" as searchstring... you'll find many...

I tried to run the recovery CD i received on my laptop. the process runs perfectly, (I have only one CD, I don't know if I need a second one). At the end of the process I get the option to insert the second CD, or skip.
Since I only have one CD i press skip.

I am told that the installation is complete and I can restart my system.
So I removed the disc and I tried restarting the system. The system goes to a black screen (on which it indicates that Microsoft is loading) and then hangs. This was the problem I was facing before recovery.

Basically the recovery process has not worked. I don't think I did anything very wrong, unless I need a second CD. What could be the problem?

Help me please!!

Answer:Satellite A100 system goes to a black screen after recovery procedure

Hi

The A100 is a one of the newest notebooks series and as far as I know the Toshiba image was placed only on one recovery CD (DVD).
I think the message and the option to insert the second CDconfuses a little bit.

In my opinion the black screen and the freezing has nothing to do with the Recovery procedure and the new installation if Windows OS.
Due to the fact that this issue happened before you have installed the OS from the recovery CD, I presume there must be something wrong with the hardware.

But it?s very interesting to know if the same problem appears after the clean Windows installation from the original Microsoft CD.

It's worth a try.

Answer:Satellite A100-153: Error message appears during recovery procedure

Hi

I assume you have used you original Recovery CD which was shipped with this notebook. Therefore I don?t think it?s a CD problem but possibly with your HDD.
Did you try to format the whole HDD? Please delete all partitions and format the HDD before OS installation?

If the OS installation will not works or will break up in the middle of the procedure then the hardware should be checked. The A100 is not very old unit and therefore the warranty should be valid. If a new HDD is needed you should get it for free.

Good luck and please report if you know more details?

...this may be a difficult question but i wil give it a shot....

i have a Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAA9E and a recovery disc set.
In the recovery disc for the OS ( win xp MCE ) there are two iso: PEbase.iso and the HDbase.iso.
After some digging in the ne i discovered what a preinstallation enivorment is and a prepared installation(sysprep) .

Now i'm wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

The only real obstacle is that there are some .inf and .sif that refear to the install partition statically and may be helpfull to know what was modified from the original version of xp MCE.

I know the question is not easy but i hope in the expertise of the admins

Hi

> Now I?m wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

I doubt this will function? To be honest I never tested it therefore I cannot say exactly if it will work or not but in my opinion this is not possible?

Newer notebook model are equipped with HDD recovery option but this recovery works completely different. There is an additional menu which helps to start the HDD recovery procedure.

Your notebook supports Recovery Disk and this disk should be used to recover the notebook.

By the way; I?ve got a Norton Ghost Utility. I create my own image using this tool and placed it on the second partition. If something would go wrong with my OS I can restore the whole system using the ghost and the image file from the other partition.

Hi,

I have recently tried to help a friend with recovering data of his Toshiba Satelitte A100 that screen has died.
I thought this would be a simply task of removing the hard drive and putting it a HDD caddie and attaching it to another computer,

This does not seem to work.
I can put the hard drive back into the computer and i can hear the computer boot up and was able to see it with a LCD Screen. I have been able to remove the data this way so we are safe.

My question is why can we seem to remove the drive and see it on another computer?
I assume there must be some interface or format that the laptop may use for the recovery section and so cant be seen as a normal drive.

If I couldnt remove the data because say the motherboard died. Is there any way to be able to see the data on another computer.

Answer:Satellite A100 - data recovery from Hard Disk Drive

Of course you can do that? if you would use an external USB SATA controller (external HDD caddy) you should be able to connect this to another computer.
But if the HDD is faulty, this will not work.

It?s very interesting if an HDD format could helps to perform the OS installation from the Toshiba recovery CD.

I remember something like this happened on my friend?s notebook? It was not able to recover the OS using the Toshiba CD. Finally we found out that some sectors on the HDD were corrupted. The whole HDD format helped and my friend was able to install the Toshiba image.

If you don?t find the recovery disk anymore and you want it to restore the original settings, ask an authorized service provider. The guys can get order a new recovery disk for you.
Do you have the address of the guys?

Alternative you can also sell the notebook without recovery disks. Just wipe the HDD before selling with HDD cleaning tool like Darik?s boot and nuke or another program.

But I think you will get a better price if it comes with recovery disks ;)

I keep on getting the above error code stated in the following format:

ERROR : F3-FFFF-0008
An error has occurred
Please press [OK] to turn the off the computer.

When I try to use the recovery wizard.

I will be grateful if someone can help me on this one.

did you partitioned your HDD after formatting it? Maybe the Recovery Wizard stops because he cannot find a partition to copy the files on?

If not already did, then I suggest you to do this. If you have already a partition, then check which filesystem you used. Maybe the problem lies there?

I am considering buying this laptop or maybe the a100-049.... any thought or reviews by people?

I have heard the A100-998 you can't partition the hard drive... but I just want an overall view of these laptops.

Answer:Need some opinion about Satellite A100-998 and A100-049

If you compare both units you will see that A100-998 has better hardware but is delivered with WXP Media Center Edition and A100-049 is delivered with Vista.

I can not tell you anything about price but maybe is A100-998 better solution. It is important that hardware is good enough und you can order Vista anytime. For about 17euro you can order Windows Vista Home Premium.

About partitions I can not tell you much but I can really not believe that you can not do this. Using delivered recovery media you can create partition (it works if you install OS again).

I am very close to buying one of the above. I know the 049 comes with Vista, the 998 withh xp media which can be upgraded to Vista for a nominal amount.

Firstly, does the 049 come with 64 bit or 32 bit vista, I cannot find the answer to that.

Secondly, the 998 has a dedicated graphics card, the 049 seems to be more of a shared one. I am not a game player but you never know. I do like to burn dvd's, edit a few photos etc. Also aware of hard disk sizes.

Since I can get them at a similar price then that is not an issue, I would just appreciate any opinions with reasons. You may tell me something I had not considered.

A100 049 is here

A100 998 is here

Answer:Need your opinions: Satellite A100-049 or A100-998

Hi

> Firstly, does the 049 come with 64 bit or 32 bit Vista?
In my knowledge Toshiba delivers the notebooks only with 32bit OS (Vista and XP)

It seems the 049 supports a little bit weaker devices: smaller HDD size and graphic card external memory.
But both cards are not shared memory graphic cards. It?s an external memory.

In you case I would choose the 998 satellite. It seems this notebook supports better hardware performance.

Maybe you could find some info in the internet but such details are mentioned only in the maintance manuals and such documents are not for public usage :(

> Due to a BIOS problem I have the option to send my notebook in for repair or change the mainboard by myself.
I would not recommend doing this. Maybe the motherboard is not damage and only the ROM module must be flashed again with special BIOS.

Satellite A100-590 belongs to the PSAA9E and the A100-480 belongs also to the same series. So I assume both motherboards are the same.

Hi! I am considering buying either a Satellite A100-233 or M100-164. I was looking over the specs for each and I found that they are very similar (almost identical except for the screen size). However, I notice that the M100-164 has Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep (mentioned under "Special features") however nothing about Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep is mentioned for the A100-233. Does this mean that the A100-233 does not have Toshiba Enhanced SpeedStep? If so, does that mean that the A100-233 notebook always runs full speed/ full capabilites and never goes into a 'power saving' mode when idle? Doesn't it have anything similar to SpeedStep in it?

Other than that detail, is there any reason why the M100-164 is better than the A100-233? I am tempted to go for the A100-233 since it has a bigger screen, but if anyone could point out a valid reason why the M100-164 is better, then I might change my mind.

Hello there,

I recently attempted to restore my laptop back to its factory settings. However, the recovery cd stopped working after it began wiping my hard drive and is not completing the task. I do not think the cd will work anymore. My computer now has no working OS and is stuck in limbo, the only way it will work is if the recovery is completed the whole way but I need a new cd.
I tried to find the recovery disk here: https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/serial.aspx, but it seems that my laptop is too old and they do not stock the cd anymore.

Is there anywhere else I can find the cd?
And, is it possible to find it anywhere in Canada?

Thank you very much,

Answer:Need a recovery disk for Equium A100-549

Hello

If you have European notebook model you will not be able to obtain recovery disc in Canada.
In my opinion easiest solution for you is to obtain Microsoft WXP installation disc and install OS on your own. WXP is not so expensive anymore.

Buy WXP (SP2) installation disc, install it and then download and install all necessary drivers and all other Toshiba stuff. All you need you can find on Toshiba download page under http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Hi,

I have a bit of a dilemma. The vista sticker on my Toshiba Equium A100-338 has worn out (was like that when I bought it). Answer:Equium A100-338 - Do I have to buy a recovery disk?

Hi!

If you want the factory settings back as the first time you started the notebook you have to buy a Toshiba recovery disk. This disk contains an image of the factory settings and so you can install the notebook in few minutes with all Toshiba drivers and tools.

But I don?t understand why this is ridiculous for you. I mean normally you get on Toshiba notebook with Vista after the first start a message that you should burn the recovery disk yourself. This takes only 10 minutes and you need only one or two DVD disks. I did this on my Toshiba notebook and I think you should take 10 minutes from your free time to do this too.

However, nobody says that you have to buy the disk because you can also use a Microsoft disk and download the Toshiba stuff on the Toshiba page but therefore you need a lot of more time.

Hi all

I?ve had my laptop for a good few years now and I need to use the recovery disk, the problem been is that the disk is all scratched to hell and Toshiba say I have to pay ?29.99 for a replacement disk, which is a bit steep.

My question is does Toshiba have a policy about replacing scratched disks if not than how do I get all the drivers and the pre-installed software back I have no problem with using my parents vista install DVD which is licensed for 3 machines, but I want all the software and stuff that is loaded on the recovery disk.

Any ideas on how I can do this

Answer:Need new recovery disc for my Equium A100-338

When you buy Toshiba notebook (older model) you will get one recovery DVD installations disc.
If this disc is destroyed and cannot be used you can get the new one but it is not for free.

So, you have choice to order new one or to install own operating system.
Recovery image saved on recovery installations disc contains follow software:
- Operating system
- All necessary drivers
- Toshiba specific tools and utilities
- Some additional software as DVD player or antivirus application (trial version)

In my opinion you should install own OS. All drivers and Toshiba tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba support page - http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com

It is absolutely the same as on recovery image. DVD player is not important and you can download for free very good VLC player. As antivirus application I recommend you Avira antivir.
If you have more questions let us know.

Don?t use the Recovery CD from different Toshiba notebook model or series!!!!
The system will not run correctly because the drivers and tools which are preinstalled on the Recovery CD for A100 were designed only for the notebook A100 model and not for M70 or other series!

If you don?t want to obtain a recovery, and you have a genuine Windows copy lying around, then install it, download the appropriate drivers for that machine from the toshiba website and install

Hi,

according to disk management on my Vista Home premium OS my recovery partition is healthy and still there. The problem is I can?t do a HDD restore?

I hit the F8 on boot then repair. I then select keyboard layout and enter my admin/user password.
I then get the list start-up repair, system restore etc. The option I want is restoring the complete windows OS. When I click this option it opens another window saying Restoring the complete windows operating system.. then under that it says .... if pre-installed files are damaged, you can use the product recovery DVD-ROM to restore them.

Under that it says when you reinstall windows all data lost etc.... When I hit OK it just goes back to the previous menu? I don?t have a recovery DVD only what's on the partition. Also I don't have software to create recovery CD's on the system?

Is there anyway I can make the recovery partition work? Thanks for any help...

Answer:Cannot start HDD recovery on Equium A100-027

Which recovery partition? Please don?t mix WinRE partition and recovery image for clean OS installation. That's not the same. WinRE partition can be used for repair but not for clean OS installation.

I?m not 100% sure but I think this old Equium notebook was not delivered with HDD recovery option and recovery DVD was probably delivered.
Have you bought this notebook as new one or maybe as already used hardware?

BTW: you will not be able to create recovery DVD. At this time when the notebook was offered this option was not available.

I've been sent a Satellite Pro A100 with WXP Pro as operating system from my home country. I'm currently in Libya and here are no Toshiba agencies. I developed errors which cannot be fixed and needed to format my Laptop but I don't have the product recovery disc. Anyhow, another friend of mine was sent a Satellite A100-904 with WXP along with it's product recovery CDs, Could it be of any harm if I used his product recovery to restore my Laptop? What would happen if I do?

Need answers please!

Answer:Can I use recovery DVD from other A100 notebook model?

Usually you can use the Toshiba Recovery CD which was designed only for you notebook model.
You ask what could happens if you will use the wrong CD???
Well, nothing will happen. Usually you will get an message that this CD is not designed for you notebook and you will be not able to install the OS.

Answer:Equium A100 - Recovery CD needed

Hey,

Why is your recovery CD expired?
Sorry but I really understand this. Recovery CD can?t expire and it will work always so you can still use it.

If you still need a new recovery disk you can look on Toshiba website. There is a list of all authorized service providers in Europe and the guys can order such a disk for you.

Hi,

Don?t know if anyone can help, I am just out of warranty by one month and I think my hard drive has failed, or I have had a virus that has knocked out loads of files and the PC is always wanting to run scan disk and still getting errors on starting up, sometimes wont even start just goes right back to boot up mode then crash and again and again the same thing.

I have the recovery disk but this is not sorting out the issue, so, if I get a new hard drive will the recovery disk actually load on a new HDD? Why don?t Toshiba just give us the full OS to start with?

Anyone has any answers or similar issues that could help please let me know.

Regards
Dean

Of course you can use recovery media with new HDD. No problem at all! Exchange the HDD and install operating system using recovery DVD. That?s all!
