How to create a partition on a Satellite A200-14D?

Question: How to create a partition on a Satellite A200-14D?

I have a problem with my partitions as I first had on the notebook 2 apparent partitions on the HDD, labelled C:\Vista
(Vista Home Premium) and E:\Data ( 57GB and respective 55GB ). I've decided to format vista because I had some problems with FN key. After using the Product Recovery CD in order to install fresh windows I've relished I have only one partition in total of aprox 115GB. I wanted to have at least two partitions, so I used again the CD to reinstall windows and try to find how I can make a partition during the installation process. After I chose language there was a window saying I can adjust my disk space, so I did, distributing 40GB for the partition where windows should be installed, presuming that the rest of HDD label will be distributed to a second partition.

After I reinstalled and made all updates I had a big surprise seeing that I have only 1 partition with 39GB. Now I used device manager to see what's wrong. I went to the HDD section properties/volume and clicked on populate. there it shows the windows partition of 40gb and unallocated space of aprox 72 GB. My main problem is I need to have that space partitionated and since the Recovery disk does not give me this option is there any other way vista can make a partition with the remaining space? I look forward for some advice please.

Thank you

Preferred Solution: How to create a partition on a Satellite A200-14D?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: How to create a partition on a Satellite A200-14D?

Don?t worry dude? there is everything ok. It seems the partition was created but not activated.
After installation of the Windows Vista please go to the disk management.
There you will find the first partition ?C? and maybe a second or only a free space.

If you want you can shrink the partition ?C? firstly. After this process you can right click on the free space and create a second partition or add the free space to the second partion which is already created.

Good luck and best regards

Hello all
I am a new user and I want to apportion Toshiba hard drive but i can not pls hellp

waiting your response

Answer:Satellite A200-1M6: How to create HDD partitions

I think you want to make different partitions, right?
Well, in that case, you have to use an extra program like Partition Magic or something similar, except you want to reinstall your operating system.
If so, in the installation procedure there is a dialog where you can create partitions. Just follow the instructions given by the setup routine.

But be carefull, all data will be lost if you create new partitions or make a complete reinstall of Windows. So just backup your important files.

I've already got Toshiba A200-1M4.
When I open My Computer, I see hard disks C and E.
Where's hard disk D?

How can I make hard disks (C,D and E)?

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1M4 - Where's HDD partition D?

I presume you have installed Vista on this notebook?
Am I right?

The Vista uses two partitions on the HDD. The C is need for the common Vista OS and the hidden D partition is needed for the Vista restore options and files.

As I said it?s hidden and should be not used!!!

I have just purchased a Satellite Pro A200 lap-top, which was supplied with Product Recovery disks for both Vista and XP.
The Vista licence specifically also licences XP.
Can I set up a dual boot so that I can boot to either Vista or XP ? If so, how?

I would also like, as a third boot, Red Hat Linux 9.
Any comments ?

Answer:Satellite Pro A200: How to create Dual boot; Vista & XP using Recovery CD

Hmmm?. Usually it?s possible to use two or more operating systems on the computer but as far as I know the Toshiba Vista Recovery CD formats the whole HDD during the Vista installation and this will lead to losing of the installed OS's.
I?m not 100% sure about the XP Recovery CD? The newest CD called RECO doesn?t include expert mode which allows choosing between different partitions.

So I presume every usage of the Recovery CD will format the HDD and will erase the installed data. But of course you could try to install both OS and to check if the XP recovery CD allows choosing second portion for the OS installation.

If it will not function it seems that you will need either an original Microsoft XP CD or the original Vista CD to use both OS.

Best regards

At me toshiba a200-1m7... System Windows Vista. HDD it is divided on (C: )-75 GB and (D: )-75GB, but for (C: ) - 75 GB it is a lot of... A question: how to divide it here so - (C: )-30 GB and (D: )-120 GB?

Answer:Satellite A200-1m7: How to change the partition size on C and D

As far as I know you can shrink and create the single partition in the Vista ?disk management?.

The ?Disk management? should be found in the ?Administrative Tools?.
There you could try to shrink firstly the ?C? partition and then try to add the free space to the second partition or you can create a new one.

Good luck.

Answer:Satellite A200-1C3: I lost my files on C partition

Hey buddy?, it?s very strange and mysterious issue? I?ve got a long experience in Windows and computer technology but believe me? the HDD files don?t disappear without any reasons?.

So either you have installed something which has deleted or removed the files or you have deleted it accidentally?

Did you try to set the OS to the early time point?
This procedure mostly helps to reset the settings or to get the early system state.

Check this? maybe it helps

I accidently deleted the 5Gb recovery partition on my Sat Pro A200. I have since recovered it (and the data inside) and have tried to create my recovery disks using the 'Recovery Disc Creator' but it is telling that it cannot find the recovery partition :(

I tried fishing through the ini files for the recovery disc creator to find where it looks for the partition, but couldnt find anything...

One thing i have noticed is that now it is recovered, it appears as an NTFS fs (i think before it was an Unknown FS type??) and has volume label 'HDDRECOVERY'.

Any ideas as to how i can either:

a) trick the recovery tool into using the recovered partition
b) make the partition look exactly like it did before i deleted it, so i can use the tool as is.

Would really appreciate any help - want to make those recovery disks for my vista ultimate before i go dicking around and whacking backtrack on it :)

Answer:Restore recovery partition on Satellite Pro A200

> accidently deleted the 5Gb recovery partition on my Sat Pro A200. I have since recovered it (and the data inside)
I wonder how you have restored the deleted partition. Possibly the recovery partition parameters are not the same as before and therefore the 'Recovery Disc Creator' doesn?t work correctly.

Unfortunately, in my opinion you will be not able to trick the recovery tool if the recovery partition cannot be found.
You can only rename the NTFS FS partition. This can be done in the disk management console.
But I don?t think that this will solve this issue.

It seems you will have to reinstall the whole OS again using the Toshiba Recovery CD or the original Microsoft Vista CD

First of all, I've got a A200 1BP Vista Home Premium and I lost the product recovery disc and I want to create one with Toshiba Product Recovery Disc Creator or Vista's "recdisc.exe".

They both failed as I had a message "No HDD Recovery Area!" which then I looked at the "Disc Management" section and couldn't find any unnamed partition.

There were two Primary Partition which were 1.46 GB "Healthy (EISA Configuration)" and my Vista (C:).
So what should I do? Can I create a recovery partition?
Or can I fix the Recovery Disc Creator? (v.

PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Seriously, I'm out of ideas and I don't wanna lose 50 bucks just to have another copy of PR Disc.

PS2: I used press "0" and "F8" thing too, they didn't work either.
Is there any way I can restore without any discs?

It looks like the HDD recovery partition is missing?
The first partition 1.46GB is created by Vista automatically and the C partition is the system partition? the HDD recovery partition does not seem to be available?

> PS: I recovered my computer many times with my CD, which probably used my recovery partition.
Did you recover the Vista using the Recover disk or what disk did you use???

If you installed the system using Vista Microsoft disk then this was a big mistake because this has deleted the HDD partition?

> Is there any way I can restore without any discs?
Either you will use a MS Vista disk and the missing drivers you could download from Toshiba page or you will order the Toshiba recovery disk? don?t see other solution?

I'm thinking of intstalling Linux to my toshiba notebook, but before I do that I have some questions.

I've noticed that I can do recovery with my recovery dvd, but I also have an hidden partition on HDD.
If I install linux (and change the original partitions) can I still do recovery from recovery DVD I got with my new laptop?
(If I can't what are my options to install linux and still do recovery to Vista later?)

Answer:Satellite A200-10W: Can I recover if I delete the hidden partition

Hi Luka

Yes, you will be able to recover the notebook back to the factory settings if you delete the hidden partition.
In such case you will have to use the Toshiba recovery CD to get the factory settings.
The hidden partition is used by Vista. Vista uses this partition for some backups and repair possibilities.
The usage of recovery CD will format the whole HDD and will also create the hidden partition too.

does removing of the hidden recovery partition void the warranty on the Satellite A200-130?

Answer:Satellite A200-130: Does removing of the hidden partition void the warranty

No, definitely no!

You can delete what you want ;) you can also install a different OS.

You would lose the warranty only if you would open and disassemble the notebook or would try to upgrade non-upgradeable components like CPU for example.

Just for note; you can set the notebook back to the factory settings using the Toshiba recovery CD.

This would create a new hidden recovery partition too.

Hi folks,

I have a new Satlellite A200 and it will not boot up. Tried running recovery CDs but no joy.
Could someone please tell me, if I selected

'Erase Hard Disk' then 'Delete all data and partitions from the hard disk'

would this also delete the computer's internal recovery partition?

I have the recovery CDs but as I said, they don't work and I was wondering if clearing the HDD completely then running the recovery from the HDD recovery partition would help.

Sorry if this is a basic question for you guys! I've read through hundreds of threads, but can't find a definitive answer.

Thanks in advance,

If you mean the hidden Vista WinRE partition then; YES

But don?t worry buddy; The Toshiba Vista recovery CD would format the whole HDD and would erase all partitions but it creates the hidden Vista WinRE partition again on the HDD.

Hello everybody,

I want to format my laptop (Toshiba Satellite A100-192) and make 2 partitions. I known how to use EMP cd+Recovery CD, it`s very simple, but I don`t want to install all the Toshiba programs. I want a "fresh" Windows install.

I read all the messages about Toshiba Express media CD + Recovery CD and patitions on the HDD. I am a little bit confused. Many of you said: "use only EMP cd + Recovery CD" or "do not make 2 or more patitions on your HDD - you can lose the warranty of your laptop".

I have another CD with Windows XP Pro OEM. It`s better to make partitions, install from this cd and after that to install drivers from TOOLSCD???

Of course I don`t want to lose my warranty, please tell me how it`s better to do!!

Sincerely yours,

Answer:Satellite A100-192: Do I lose the warranty if I create a partition on HDD

> Many of you said: "use only EMP CD + Recovery CD" or "do not make 2 or more partitions on your HDD ?

Somebody told you a great story :)

Fact is; you will not lose the warranty after creating partitions on your HDD!
You will lose your warranty only if you will open the notebook and will try to repair something by yourself.

Of course you can use your fresh, original Windows OS. After the installation of the OS you can install the Toshiba drivers from the Tools CD or you will download it from the Toshiba page.

I bought a Toshiba, Satellite P50T-A0EE SLV laptop yesterday with installed Win 8, in Adelaide. First, I realised that only one C:/ partition is available and no additional partition is created for data and for some reason, already 150 GB is used on the C:/ by the factory installed software.

Moreover, checking the disk management, it came up that four primary partitions exist.
One is the C:/, two others are called Healthy (Recovery Partition), and one is the Healthy (EFI System Partition).

As I read up about it, a fifth primary partition is questionable to create, maybe even not supported.
When I just started to launch on C:/ the 'shrink volume' command, much less space was offered to use than it was displayed as free under file manager.

Could someone help, please how to create a separate partition with a reasonable size (600 GB at least from the 1Tb) for data? I would not like to keep my data files on a same partition with windows.

Answer:How to create new partition on a brand-new Satellite P50T-A0EE?

Hi dude,

Before you would start to modify the HDD partitions table, I recommend strongly to create an Toshiba Recovery Medium using the preinstall software/tool called Toshiba Recovery Media Creator.
This software creates either the recovery disks (DVDs) or Recovery USB flash memory.
It?s very important to create such medium in case you would like to go back to the factory state.

After that you could use an open source software like Gparted tool to create the partitions and to modify the HDD partitions table.

Note: the partitions which are already available on the HDD contain the Toshiba recovery image which allows you to recover the notebook from HDD. But this is possible only in case the HDD partitions table has not been modified in the past.

I've bought a new Toshiba Satellite L500-19E with Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). So far, everything's working brilliant.
I've already created the recovery dvds.
Therefore, could I now delete the partition with the recovery programm? I want to use the full space of my hdd and create partitions as I want.
But I don't know how I should do this?
Could you please help me?

Answer:Satellite L500-19E - Deleting recovery partition and create new

If you are 100% sure the created recovery DVDs are ok you can remove all saved data on second partition.
Open Windows Explorer and on the left side where is second partition listed click with right mouse button on it and choose option FORMAT.
Choose Quick format option and click on START.

After minute or two all data will be gone.

Please note: in the future when you want to use recovery DVD for Win7 installation the whole HDD will be deleted and you will lose all your data.
Using recovery DVD you cannot format partition C only.

...this may be a difficult question but i wil give it a shot....

i have a Toshiba Satellite A100 PSAA9E and a recovery disc set.
In the recovery disc for the OS ( win xp MCE ) there are two iso: PEbase.iso and the HDbase.iso.
After some digging in the ne i discovered what a preinstallation enivorment is and a prepared installation(sysprep) .

Now i'm wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

The only real obstacle is that there are some .inf and .sif that refear to the install partition statically and may be helpfull to know what was modified from the original version of xp MCE.

I know the question is not easy but i hope in the expertise of the admins

Answer:Re: How to create an instant recovery partition on Satellite A100 PSAA9E

> Now I?m wondering if it can be so simple to place the .tpa image of the Recovery disc in a partition and install it whit a pe that runs directly from that partition.

I doubt this will function? To be honest I never tested it therefore I cannot say exactly if it will work or not but in my opinion this is not possible?

Newer notebook model are equipped with HDD recovery option but this recovery works completely different. There is an additional menu which helps to start the HDD recovery procedure.

Your notebook supports Recovery Disk and this disk should be used to recover the notebook.

By the way; I?ve got a Norton Ghost Utility. I create my own image using this tool and placed it on the second partition. If something would go wrong with my OS I can restore the whole system using the ghost and the image file from the other partition.

I've got an old Toshiba Satellite P750 (PSAY1A-01Y022). I have just upgraded my memory from 4GB to 8GB, and am planning to upgrade my HDD from 500GB to 1TB. I have ordered the HDD online and am waiting for it to arrive.

I am still trying to figure out how to create the Toshiba Recovery Partition when my new HDD arrives. I am doing the same for an old notebook, which I have manged to get something similar to it's original factory state.

I have looked at the recovery partition but cannot figure out how it was created. It is not NTFS. Does anyone have any experience in creating a Toshiba Recovery Partition on a new HDD?

And help is much appreciated.

Thank you and kind regards,

Answer:Satellite P750 PSAY1A: how to create the Toshiba Recovery partition on new HDD

Recovery partition can be created when you use original Toshiba recovery disc and install recovery image. Before OS installation starts partitions will be created automatically, recovery image copied on recovery partition and then as last step recovery image installation will start.

Some kind of files migration from one to other HDD is not solution.

Only notebook with ?factory settings? will have well working and usable recovery partition.

my Satellite L40 PSL48E came with a Vista recovery partition.
As I despise Vista I bought a replacement drive and installed a new hard-drive and installed XP pro.
I retained the original drive in case i ever had to claim under warranty.

I now find that due to work commitments I have to occsionally use the despised Vista rubbish and wonder if it is possible to create a Installation disk from the partition on the original drive so tha ti can create a dual boot system on my new drive.

I am very reluctant to BUY a new Vista CD since I already have a fully legal copy on a drive which I am not using and I will only use it VERY rarely for this one work commitment.

Any information gratefully received

Thanks Ron

Answer:Re: Satellite L40 PSL48E: Can I create a installation disk from Vista partition

Hmm?. If you have a HDD recovery option then a full image was placed on the HDD and usually all notebook with HDD recovery option supports an Toshiba tool called TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator.

Using this tool you could create a Vista recovery DVD If the Vista OS was damage you could also try to boot the notebook pressing the F8 button.
This would enable a advanced boot menu.
Here you should choose ?repair the computer?

But note; this possibility is only available on notebooks with ?HDD Recovery?

Hi Duncan,

you cannot always rely on images on websites to dictate your shopping experience, as these websites may not have updated their pages in a while.

My suggestion would be to visit a retail store selling the computer model you are after and view the computers there (After making a note of the computer model number you wish to purchase).

However, for your purposes, A200 (last year's model) had a silver keyboard and the newer models (A300) have a glossy black keyboard.

I hope this helps.

I would like to create a bootable partition from an existing Win 7 partition. I have two partitions bootable now. Both Win 7- one with dragon dictate and various software I am trying out (on a 1.5 TB drive) and the other is my regular boot partition on an SSD with the system reserved partition.

I would like to create an exact image of the regular SSD boot partition on the 1.5 TB drive with the existing win7 dragon partition (and other data drives) to do an upgrade to win 8 (avoiding reinstall of lots of additional software).

I have read lots of threads on related topics but haven't seen one that can help with this problem.

I have tried acronis DD 2011 copying the partition but it isn't bootable and easyBCD adds it but it always defaults to the dragon partition when selecting it from the boot menu.

I do have acronis 2011, 2012, and 2013 plus versions as well as 2011 disk director.
Also just downloaded partition wizard but thought I might try a question first. If there is a thread I missed that has the solution, please point me there.

After re-imaging the partition to HD choosing Auto drive letter selection, Active partition and include MBR and Track0, unplug all other HDs, set target HDD first HD to boot in BIOS (after DVD drive), confirm partition is still marked Active then run Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times until Win7 starts with the System Active flags onboard.

If you are including the 100mb System Reserved partition then all of these things should be done choosing it, so that it remains bootable and starts Win7. Otherwise the steps applied to C will cut out the 100mb System Reserved as boot partition.

I am getting this error while installing windows 7 again!
My earlier win 7 got corrupted and i am trying to reinstall it.
I am using USB drive.
I have tried re-inserting pen drive and diskpart method to set the location of the partition.but both solutions are useless!
What can be the reason and what should i do?

Answer:Unable to create a new system partition or locate an existin partition

The problem is all your partitions are Logical.
The bootloader needs to be installed in a Primary partition.

You can delete Partition 4 so it becomes Unallocated space.
Then Windows should be able to create a system partition and install.
Installing in Unallocated space Windows will create 2 partitions, a System Reserved partition for the bootloader and a C partition for Windows.

Or, you could delete Partition 4 and create a new Primary partition.
If you install Windows into that Primary partition the bootloader and Windows will be in the C partition.
You won't have a System Reserved partition.

I like having Windows as the first partition, before any data partitions, but that would be more work if you want to move partitions around before installing Windows.

I bought a fairly new eMachines E528-2325 from a friend. before buying he decided to use DBAN 2.2.6 to wipe Windows 7 and install Ubuntu 11.04, after buying i requested him to reinstall Windows 7 using usb, so he again used DBAN to wipe the computer. Upon trying to install windows he got the error "Setup was unable to create a new system partition or locate an existing partition." We both cannot find a fix to this problem, and we have basic knowledge on computers. Please and thanks for any help.

Answer:Setup unable to create a new partition or locate an existing partition

Hello mrvoid, welcome to Seven Forums!

Boot the Windows 7 installer and do at least a clean to start and a clean all would be best; have a look at the information below and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

To start fresh with a clean installation or clean install with an upgrade version of Windows 7, it may be best to over-write the Master Boot Record of any possible corruption and then use the Windows installer to create and format the partition(s) for installation, have a look at the "#6 clean" option of Method One in this first tutorial linked below. Secure Erase / Wipe : Definition and Methods
DISKPART : At PC Startup

If you want to completely wipe, over-write the entire Hard Disk Drive of any possible malware infection and / or to get the best possible space to do the install to or just for security purposes, have a look at these tutorials. SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation

I have my Windows format disc and I want to create another partition with it. I tried to create one, but it said something like "You have no more space to create another partition because you used up all your space on your Windows primary partition". See, when I reformatted my computer a while back I just created 1 partition for Windows and applied all the space onto that partition.

I was wondering if there is a way I could remove some space off of my Windows primary partition and create another partition with the space I removed. I want to do this so I can put general things in my other partition such as documents, music, etc. and just leave the other partition for Windows and programs. This way, my computer will possibly run faster, etc.

Could someone tell me how to do this?

Answer:I want to create a secondary partition, but I added all space on primary partition

You didn't mention what operating system you have.. that could make a difference... Vista has made it a little easier to do.
I'll assume you have XP.

1.) First defrag your drive.

2.) Then back up everything, because partition changes can easily wipe out your whole drive.

3.) Then, use a program such as Parted Magic, Partition Logic, or Partion Magic to change your partition sizes.
I'm not sure this will help you that much that it's worth doing, but good luck with it.

I have a main partition where my OS resides that is on a 500mb C: dirive. I want to shrink it to 100mb and free the remainder so that I can create a second partition that I will use only for data. I have a 500mb D: drive that is pretty full. I don't want to use the C: drive for data because if I do an image back up it takes too long and if I have peroblems with the operating system I don't want to loose my data. I was also think of installing a second OS on the new partition and make it bootable. I used MiniTools for the first time and it allowed me to shrink the main partition down but when I tried to make the new partiotion in the free space it came back with and error that said I already had four MBR and could not create a new one. The solution to this is to change one of my existing partitions to a logical drive first. Since I don't know what this means and didn't want to risk it I left everythig as it was and decided to ask for help.

I don't know if this is the right fourm for this if its not please let me know.

I'm including a snapshot of what MiniTool shows about my partitions.

After done resizing and restart i can't see any D partition. so i was worried that my data will disappeared. i try to look for it but there is no Drive D even on the easeus or diskpart. the only drive appears was C Drive.

i remove my Linux Mint and its swap (60gb) and thinking that i could get some more free space and do some cmd prompt windows 7 repair fixmbr thing to remove the grub. then i use partition recovery to transfer those missing data from partition D to C Drive. (appears as unformatted)

Are you still trying to recovery your deleted partition or data? The tool for this is Paragon Rescue CD. Rescue Kit Free Edition | PARAGON Software Group - free partition software, hard disk partitioning

The tool to use for cleaning HD then partitioning is free Partition Wizard bootable CD. Back up your files, Boot CD, select 1 for screen res, on Disk tab choose Wipe Disk and apply zeroes to HD to wipe the GRUB which will interfere with Win7 install.

Then use PW CD to Create new partitions, Primary for OS and Logical for Data. Install Linux last following this tutorial to Dual Boot with Windows: Where to install ubuntu in my system?

Hibernate has disappeared recently. I have not just done a disk clean up. I have tried going to the Command prompt and entering powercfg /hibernate on but I get a message saying that the system could not create the hibernation file with a specific error code:0xc0000022.

Any suggestions, please?

Have you enabled hibernation in Vista Power Management?
What happens if you press FN+F4 key combination to enter hibernation mode?

I never had a problem with hibernation mode on Windows and I think its more Microsoft related issue.
Have you searched on Microsoft forums for possible solution?

Answer:Equium A200-1V0: Is it possible to create a new Toshiba Recovery CD

Don?t think that you will be able to create a own Toshiba recovery CD.
In the Toshiba document you can see this info:

?Only those models that come with "Toshiba HDD Recovery Utility" (ie: Tecra A2)?

It looks like the Equium A200 was already delivered with the Toshiba recovery CD and you don?t need to create a new one.
The procedure described above applies to the Toshiba notebook which were delivered without the Recover CD

I want to create a third Partition using Vista's new Partition program.

I have 222 GB space on C:Local disk and 10.4 GB space on D:Recovery
I am currently using about 70 GB (programs & files) on the C:
which leaves 151 GB Free space.

I would like to move all my programs and picture/music/word files over to a new partition, but I'm not sure what size the new partition should be.

Are there any standard procedures (other than backing every file up) that I should follow, as far as partitioning goes?

Do I have to extend or rename anything already existing? Or do I just create a new "simple partition" with that program that comes with Vista?

I sure appreciate any help and precautions you can throw my way.

Just bought a second-hand computer (Equium A200-196) and would like to restore it back to factory settings. Am a little nervous of doing it without any restore disks.

*Is it possible to get a restore CD made from the restore settings already on the computer*, just in case it doesn't work !

Or do I just have to bite the bullet, and go for it ?
Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Equium A200-196 - Create a CD from factory restore settings

Well, if the Toshiba Recovery Disk creator is preinstalled on the notebook and if the HDD recovery image files are available on the second partition, then you will be able to create the Toshiba recover disk.
Furthermore you could also try to recover the notebook using the HDD recover option.

For details check this:

If both would not work, then you can order such recover disk from here:

The front 'logo' LED is enabled or disabled using a BIOS option 'Display Front Logo' which can be set to ON or OFF as you require. Access your BIOS settings (F2 during boot up) and check that this setting is set to 'ON'.

Having just purchased my A200-196 I realise the original 80GB hard drive will soon be inadequate. I want to upgrade before I add too much software. Question is what do I do about the hidden partition 'EISA Configuration'. I guess that if this is not present I will not be able to do a system recovery. I'm not sure if I need to copy (clone) this to the new 160GB drive and if so what utility do I use for the copy. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Answer:Re: Equium A200-196 hard drive upgrade - hidden partition

You are right. Vista OS creates two partitions; one for the OS and one (hidden partition) for the system restore.
If you delete this partition then you will be not able to use the Vista?s system restore functionality?

You should be able to start HDD recovery installation as described in

Everything must be described in ?User?s manuals? document.

WinRe (D:) 1.25 GB free of 146 GB.

My question is: can I shrink Data (E:) by say 30 GB and, if I do that, will that allow me to expand Vista (C:) by 30 GB?

>My question is: can I shrink Data (E:) by say 30 GB and, if I do that, will that allow me to expand Vista (C:) by 30 GB?

I think this is not possible using Windows own settings because E partition is placed after C partition.
If you would shrink the E partition then you would get free space after the E partition and you could not add this to C.

I think you would need to use an external application.
I use GParted

This is a free tool? I think you have to shrink the D partition in order to get free space between C and D. Then you could add the free space to C

When I first got this product, before opening I thought that all the 500gb would go to the first partition, but then I saw that the recovery partition has half of the 500gb just for recovery which is unnessecery.

But I had no problem with this at the time, and used the recovery partition(after saving to a disk) for ubuntu so I could have a dual boot.

But now I've came to realise that the games I'm downloading are taking more and more room up on my C drive. The problem I have is that I can shrink my recovery partition and enlarge the C drive.

Does anyone know a work around?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-225: Shrinking recovery partition englarge C partition

You will need an 3rd party software to shrink the recovery partition and to add the free space the existing C partition.
I would recommend you an freeware tool called Gparted

But before you would start doing this, create a recovery disk!
This is advisable in case you would try to set the notebook back to factory settings using such disk.

I will try to clarify situation on your HDD. as far as I know your notebook is delivered with preinstalled ???Media Express Player???. This is small ???Linux-based??? application and it is installed on small unallocated partition (about 250 MB). Please leave it at it is.

Primary located partition can be reduced for about 40%. On this 40% you leave you can install Vista OS. On this way you will have two operating systems and every time you start your notebook Boot ???manager will ask you which OS you want to start.

When you start Vista installation setup will ask you where the Vista should be installed. Choose please this second partition.

Please report us the results.

Answer:Create partition in W7 HB

Best method with HP preinstalls which have the System Reserved partition is to convert C to Logical, shrink it to add as many adjacent Logical partitions as you want. Use only the Partition Wizard bootable CD:
How to set partition as Primary or Logical.
Partition Wizard Resize Partition Video Help.
Partition Wizard Create Partition Video Help

This keeps the HP tools and Recovery partitions operable. Be sure to make your HP Recovery Disks first to use as a backup to the preferred method of running Recovery from its partition at boot: HP Recover Windows 7 Operating System Using HP Recovery - HP Customer Care (United States - English)

Be aware that HP has the industry's worst load of corrupting bloatware and useless factory utilties which have better versions built into Win7. You should Clean Up Factory Bloatware at a minimum, but most tech enthusiasts choose to Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7

I have a 32GB MicroSDHC card with the following partitions:
a 286MB FAT32 EFI partition
a 15GB ext3 Linux partition
14GB of unallocated space
I want to create a partition in the unallocated space to share between Windows 8 and Linux. I have done this many times on my old laptop's HD, but I can't get it to work with this card.
When I open Disk Management as administrator and right-click the unallocated space, all options to create a new volume are greyed out. DISKPART says the operation is not supported on a non-empty removable disk. (These issues happen in both Windows 8 and Windows 7.)
In Linux I tried creating a new partition (either primary NTFS or FAT32), but Windows doesn't mount it. Disk Management can see the new partition but won't format it (fails with an unexpected error.) DISKPART considers the Linux partition and the new partition to both be Partition 0 and will only select the Linux partition.
Can someone offer any advice on this problem? Thanks!

hey guys i am trying to dual boot opensuse and windows 7, i have windows 7 installed right now. i am trying to shrink the drive by 10 gigs for opensuse but windows disk management says i have no available shrinkage. i would just create a partition in suse install, but i don't want to mess up windows. is there a good reason why i can't shrink it? or is windows just being retarded? o by the way i have 68 gigs of free space on a 320 gig hd so i should have enough space.

Answer:why cant i create a partition?

You will need a third party utility to do this. The built in utility has some limitations with shrinking volumes. Microsoft was unable to provide a full-featured partitioning utility because this would leave commercial products without a market, leading to lengthy and expensive legal problems. This has happened before.

Hello   I want to install XP on my Win8.1 laptop.  I understand I can do this by creating a new partition and using my original XP install disc.  Is there a tutorial to do this for Win 8.1?  I've looked at "Creating and formatting a partition in Windows" but I have a different a Disk Management screen which shows numerous partitions but none designated as unallocated.   Right clicking on the major © partition which is 85% free, lists "Shrink volume" but I don't want to go any further without some idea of what I'm doing.   Thanks

My laptop has only one drive on the hard disk - C:
How can I split drive C: into C: & D:

Please help

Answer:Create a new partition

In most cases, you can use the built-in Windows Disk Management. You would shrink C, which would generate some unoccupied space. Then you would convert the unoccupied space into a new partition. All with Windows Disk Management.

In some cases, you may have to use a third party tool such as Partition Wizard.

But try Disk Management first, using its menus and drop down lists.

what is the reason behind that error .

Answer:Can not create more than 4 partition

If you need more than 4 partitions you have to create everything past #3 as logical partition in an extended partition.

Hi guys ..

This is how it looks in computer management in win 7 ...

healthy OEM Partition 14.75 GB
healthy system 200.MB
( C ) healthy Boot 420.56 GB
Lenovo ( D ) 30.25 GB

My question :
C drive is too large and i need a new drive to store my multimedia files on, i shrinked C but the system refused the new allocated drive cause it said i have the maximum number already.
I tried to extended D but couldnt since its a logical drive.
I thought of deleting one drive but didnt know which one, and i dont want to delete the drive that has the factory backup image on since its hidden .

Thanks ....

A few months ago I built my PC and at that time I created a partition equal to about 50% of my hard drive.capacity. As I recall, I created the partition in BIOS. After creating the 1st partition I thought I would be prompted to create a 2nd partition or see some option to create a 2nd partition, but that was not the case. I now have a PC that recognizes only half of my hard drive. I would like to add a second partition without affecting the existing partition that contains my operating system and all my data, is this possible?

Ok, i was trying to dual boot win7 with eOS and in order to do that i have to create partition and install the other os into the other partition.

I have tried this on partition creating program like EaseUS, paragon partition manager and built in win7 partition creator (Disk management) but i cannot create a partition, no matter how many times i try on win7 disk management program the creating process hangs. It also happened on easeus and paragon. Easeus had boot time partitioning which hanged and created a BSOD and restarted but didn't create a partition. Paragon also just hanged and didn't work.

Before these incident happened i already dual booted with 2 OS and this third time it showed 0MB available shirking space so i defragmented (boot time/normal defrag with smart defrag) and disabled many things like (system restore, paging, kernel dump) and it worked and showed the available space as it should be.

Please help, i have been trying to create partition for 2 days now

Thanks in advance

UPDATE: Recently my chkdsk stopped and showed BSOD

PS: I don't know if this is the right section

Answer:Cannot create partition

Nietailz mate sounds like you have real problems whe it will not run chkdsk - have you tried that in safe mode?
If you can and it comes up with problems - run it again with the /f and maybe the/r switches
Disk Check

If that still does not come up with anything then go with these

download from bleeping computer ? delete any rubbishthese find.
All this is to eliminate a few things.

We may need to go on with other scans for hardware etc

Is there step by step how to create Partition ?
I searched forum but I can't find exact how to do that.
And I don't want to create Partition if it need format everything.

Answer:How I can create Partition ?

try to resize the first or only partition(make it smaller)

Hi everyone,

I can't deal with a specific problem. I bought a laptop and it was partitioned in a bad way. Now there was a pre-created partition D:. I deleted this partition and wanted to create a new partition D: with all the unallocated space. However, whenever I try to create the partition, I get the error message you can see in the attached picture. I read about this and I know about partition limitations. But as far as I understand, I have only one primary partition, which is C:. Even more, there used to exist a pre-installed partition D, it was only after I deleted it that I can't recreate one.
So I guess my question is: What's wrong, why can't I create the partition and what can I do to create it? I know there are some programs I could use, but I would want to stay away from those if there is an easy way to deal with the problem through windows. Also I read something about changing the unallocated space into dynamic space by right-clicking it and selecting the corresponding option, but when I right-click the unallocated space, there is no possibility for that.

Another questions I had is what those two partitions without a letter are and whether it is safe to delete them.

I thank you all for your answers in advance.

Answer:Can't create another partition

You can only have a maximum of four standard partitions on one drive to add more you need to change the type of partition you are trying to make but i would strongly advise you not to do that as it can create all sorts of problems

Instead to recover the space on the drive to make it useable i would extend one of the existing four partitions to consume the spare space

Sometimes manufacturers will put a partition on the drive with recovery options on it in case of problems, this is often instead of supplying windows disks so it may be wise to procede with caution if you are planning to remove any more partitions and do not have any other recovery methods ie win disk or image backups etc

I have to create a 1.5GB partition at the end of my drive (that will be used to reinstall Dell Media Direct at a later time). I'm going to be using a Dell XP reinstall disk to attempt to format and install XP Media Center Edition on my new HD(which is now full of data from a bad cloning).
Can someone explain how to delete the partitions on my drive and create 1 for XP and 1 for the future Media Direct install?

I accidentally formatted my D: partition, but the disk management shows that the partition is still there and "Healthy (Primary Partition)". Do I still need to recover the files or remake the partition?

Answer:Necessary to create a new partition?

Do not do anything else with the drive as you will overwrite any files on there
Try recuva and make sure any files are recovered to another drive not the D: drive.

Question: Create a partition

Hi guys, Im running Winxp and was wondering how I could partition my hard drive. Cuz before i tried the help system where it showed me how to do it visually where you go into the admin control panel or whatever and then disk management and choose partition. Up to that point Im stuck on. I know you can do it in the command prompt, but i do not know the commands to do it.

Answer:Create a partition

You would be best getting hold of a utility such as pq's partition magic - regarding being able to do it at command prompt - this is using a program called fdisk -- best to stick to an nice GUI setup like pq magic unless you are comfortable with terms such as primary, logical etc terms.

I have a 60GB laptop that I am dual booting with linux and windows. They dual boot fine.

The problem is that I only need about 10 GB for Windows and about 10 GB for linux and want to use the rest for data as a NTFS partition.

The partitions are are weird now. I can't repartition the rest of the large partition.

I have already tried to used partition magic and acronic but they both can't reconize the partition type.

Here are some screenshots from Partition Magic

Can someone help me figure out what I need to do for me to get an extra partition out of that 40GB chunk? I think most of the linux stuff is part of that partition.

How can I create a partition on my hard drive? I have a large file [about 2.75 GB] of old data, old family photos, etc. My desire is to exclude this file from all routine virus and spyware scans, because the process takes so long when this file is included. I feel its unlikely bad things will gget into thisnfile bewcause the data is old, and the file isn't opened on a frequent basis.

Thanks, Robt

Answer:How to create a partition??

Hello Rob1960

You cannot create a partition without the use of a third party program like Partition Magic. I do not know of a good free one

Most antivirus programs will let you exclude files from the scan.
Have a look under "Settings"

hello I am installing windows 7, a clean install. I deleted all my partition so now all my 465 gigabytes are unallocated space. I want to create a new partition to install windows on but when I press new and select the space I want the partition to be, it does nothing. How can I fix this?

Answer:Can't create a new partition

Assuming you are trying a custom install of Windows but it's failing to partition the disk, go into the BIOS and see if the drive is recognized. If it is, see what SATA mode it's set too. If it's AHCI try changing it to IDE, otherwise you will have to install an AHCI driver before installing Windows.

What I'm trying to do is divide the existing C: drive and create a new partition. This would be to leave the existing C: drive at anywhere from 20-50 GB and only for the operating system and subsequent uprades and operating system related items.
The remaining space would be used for a new partition drive where items not related to the OS would be, programs, etc. In Computer Management, currently the OS (C:) drive is listed as having 455.71 GB NTFS with 440 GB listed as free. The Recovery (D:) drive is listed as having 10.00 GB NTFS with 6.34 GB free. And it lists something else as having 47 MB. All are listed as healthy. I've tried shrinking the C: drive, but it would only allow me to shrink it to around 360 GB. Any other suggestions on how to accomplish this would be greatly appreciated. Oh.......also in Computer Management all of the space is listed in blue as Primary partition and nothing is in black (Unallocated).
