Satellite A30 recovery stops after 15%

Question: Satellite A30 recovery stops after 15%

Hello
I have satellite A30 notebook. When I tried to do a recovery with the Toshiba recovery CD, it started to format my hard disk I think. But when the progress bar arrives at 15% my computer shuts down. No mater how many times I?ve tried it I does the same thing. Now I am blocked and can even enter to windows.
Can any one help?

Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Satellite A30 recovery stops after 15%

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A30 recovery stops after 15%

Hi Takis,

The most likely cause of this behaviour is a faulty hard drive. When the recovery process reaches the faulty area of the drive platters it will retry several times but will then shut down the notebook.

If you have access to any disk utilities (such as Norton Disk Doctor) you could try a surface scan of your hard drive to check for defective sectors.

Hi

I'm in desperate need of assistance, hope someone can help me here.
On booting up laptop one day I got the dreaded ERROR LOADING OPERATING SYSTEM.

So I bought a recovery disk from the media shop for my laptop.

Now, I've tried all the F8 stuff but this doesn't work for some reason on this laptop.

Anyways, disk arrived and did exactly what it said on the back:
Insert disk and powerdown machine
Press F12 on boot up and select Optical Drive.

Right now when it powers back up, I get the WINDOWS IS LOADING FILES.
Then the MICROSOFT CORPORATION (with the bar above it), once this goes on a few seconds the CD/DVD drive stops and then get a black screen.

It doesn't go any further than that.
Tried restarting laptop without disk in, and all that is coming up then is
DISK READ ERROR OCCURED
Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart

What do I do?????
Can I get hold of the Media Shop and tell them that the disk doesn't work? if so what is their e-mail address?????

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite L300 - Recovery disk stops

Hi!

In my opinion it?s really hard to say what the reason is for this. It could be also an issue with the CD/DVD drive or the HDD.
So have you tested a Microsoft installation disk? You can try it with a XP or Vista disk from Microsoft. If you have booted from it try to format the HDD. Sometimes it?s necessary to format the HDD before you can use the Toshiba recovery disk. On this way you can also test if your CD/DVD drive is working.

If the Microsoft disk is also not working it could be a problem of the HDD. You can check the HDD with a diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test. Google is your friend to find it ;)

Good luck and if you have more questions, please let us know!

After trying to reinstall Windows from original recovery DVD my A80 stop working after 10 minutes from doing this.

I tried again for few more times and the problem is the same. Can't finish the installation, because is turning off every time after 10 minutes or so.

Do you have any ideea why is this happening?
Thanks!

Answer:Re: Satellite A80-135 - During recovery it stops working after 10 minutes

Hello

What do you mean with it stops working? Does the notebook freezes or you get an error message?
Does it happen with a Microsoft installation disk too?

It?s really hard to say what the reason is for this but try to load the default settings in BIOS before you start the recovery.

It could be also a problem of the HDD or RAM. You can check both components with Drive Fitness Test and Memtest86. Use Google to find both tools (freeware).

Dear All,

I order the recovery CDs (Win7 Home Prem. 64) and boot from Disc 1. After DOS box, windows starts but remains then with a black window.

Same effect when booting from harddisc (I try all repair possibilities).

Booting from the recovery CD on another PC works.
Removing the harddisc from the Satellite L755 and booting from the recovery CD works! (of course only until the recovery tool will have access to the harddisc :-) ).
Trying to have access on the harddisc via Linux bootable DVD works - so I have made a backup.

Do s.o. have a idea?
I do not think that a deletion of the win partition and a complete new install fix the problem...

Answer:Satellite L755 - Booting with recovery CD stops

The whole story is a bit confusing for me.
If you have tested all combinations try the last one: obtain other HDD, put it in your L755, set BIOS to default settings and try to install recovery image using recovery discs.

Hi,
I have replaced a hard drive in a Satellite L 50 B. I purchased the recovery usb from Toshiba as recovery from the original disk was not possible.
My usb stick was promptly delivered to the wrong address! After the parcel was returned to myself I began the process and found that it got as far as
Finishing the installation SRS Premium Sound 3D. After a few hours I came to the conclusion that it was not going to progress any further I when into the desktop, updated it to 8.1 to see if the issue was hardware related. This seems to me that it is not. I have repeated the installation and got the same result. I suspect that the image on the usb recovery stick is corupted and so I tried to contact the support centre. They refered me to an automated animation that had no answers for my problem!

I have been at this now for days, and still no closer answer from Toshiba, and felt it was time to ask if anyone else has had this issue and managed to resolve it.

After deleting lots of files with virusses, the C650 was slow. Decided to reinstall wondows 7 from the restore D: partition. Afther formatting C: restore failed.
I ordered Restore Media, USB recieved, followed procedure.
After 3 hours it tels me there is an error 1117. a Retry has started automattically. After 1 hour again Error 117 and the process stops.
I made an image of the screen

What can I do?

Answer:Recovery process stops Error 1117 Satellite C650

What you can do about that? I’m afraid not much.
As far as I know either it works or not and there is no some kind of “workaround”. You cannot force recovery installation to end installation.

Either is recovery image saved on USB defective or your notebook is the troublemaker, HDD maybe.

I presume you have started recovery image installation several times, right?
Does error message occur always after 41% of installation?

Aftre reading the threads I ordered an official recovery disk (35 Euro !!) from the Toshiba service desk, but I got the same errors and messages ...

Any Ideas , what I have to do now?

Thanks !!

p.s I never had those problems with my other laptops .....

Answer:Satellite L300D - Recovery disk stops with error message

Hello

That?s a long story, buddy?

It?s not easy to say what the reason is for this but for me it sounds like that there is something wrong with the HDD. In your case I would format the HDD before you run the recovery disk. You can do this with a Microsoft disk to format the whole HDD. After this try the recovery disk again.

If it doesn?t work you should check the HDD with a special HDD diagnostic tool like Drive Fitness Test. Use Google to find it, it?s freeware and takes only few minutes.

Well, the other day, my L45 froze up, so I restarted it - to find that an OS file was missing.

So I tried the system restore, and it ran until the end where it said it had a problem and closed.
Then I tried the recovery discs. It ran all of disc 1, moved on to disc 2, started restoring, and then stopped at 17% restored.
I tried the discs several more times and it always stops at 17% and gives me "ERROR : 10-FC12-045D" - "Recovery error".

I have looked everywhere for what this error is specific to, but have gotten no results.

Answer:Satellite L45 Recovery stops at 17% - ERROR: 10-FC12-045D - Recovery error

I really do not believe you can find explanation for this error because Toshiba use RECO software for OS installation. My experience says that in such case there are two possibilities: either is recovery CD/DVD defective or the HDD make some problems.

I recommend you to obtain original Microsoft installations CD and try to install clean Windows to see if the installations procedure ends properly. If not maybe is really HDD defective and after 17% there is some defective sector.

Check it out. Anyway I recommend you to contact authorized service provider in your country. They can say for sure what is wrong there.

Hi againThis guide is on using one key recovery backup manually when the function stops woking. For this, you require your recovery partition to be absolutely untouched. Even if you have deleted other partition but this partition stays, you still have the chance to access the backup. LIke before, these steps are also very easy to follow and dont require any professional experiencesNow moving on to the steps,Firstly you will need to download ptedit32.exe, download from here:-  http://www.2shared.com/file/TbV75uyo/PTEDIT32.htmlNow run the application as administrator. You will get this. You have to change the partition type of the oem partition which is 12 by default to 07 as shown belowAnd click save changesNow reboot and you would see a new partition in my computer after rebooting named LENOVO_PARTOpen the partition and you will see 5 folders. Open the OKRBackup  folder and then open the folder named Factory.  In the folder you would see a file named OS.okr . Copy it and save it wherever you want. This file is the image of the operating system and is the same as the install.wim image file which is used in installing windows. So you will rename this file to install.wim. Now this file is usable to install windows the way you normally install it. To use this file, you will have to delete the default install.wim file which is found in the sources folder of the windows setup and then copy the one key recovery install.wim to the sou... It stops after copying 6/6 F:\ZZImg\09820XSP6.SWM to V:\HDDRecovery\SWImg from the first disc (of ten).

When I put in disc no 2 it says on the screen: Could not open split-file 0 F:\ZZImg\09821XSP.SWM for read

What is wrong ? Have tried 3 times and it stops at the same place.

I'm unable to close most browser windows (very occasionally it lets me) - either tabs or windows.
When I press the 'x' I get a dialog box saying Internet Explorer has stopped working. Fair enough, bit of a nuisance but since the last set of MS updates I now get the tabs and windows automatically recovered. This means every time I close a window it recovers it, meaning I never get the window - or tab - closed without using ctrl-alt-del and task manager.
Any ideas greatly appreciated!

So for the past 5 years I've been using the same 3 set of discs to recover my computer whenever it started acting stupid past the point of 20 hour headache. Well, for some reason, CD 1 won't run. I put it in the Cd Drive, and checked if the CD drive was the first one in the boot order (it is), and when the computer starts all I see is a black screen with a txt line on the top left of the screen as if waiting for an input (not like it matters if I could input for some reason the keyboard disables at this moment), and the computer does nothing after that.

Things I can think of to cause this, well, I installed an Aston Shell recently, I haven't checked for security issues in over a month, and I haven't properly cleaned my HD from Adware and Malware in over 2. Any idea's or checks I can produce to try and figure out the problem would be appreciated!

I purchases a new WD 2 tb portable external usb disk for backup with Rescue and Recovery. The initial backup stops repeatedly with this message: "Rescue and Recovery is unable to back up the file " because the file is corrupted or being used by another application." Note that it doesn't give me the name of the file, just the one double-quote sign. If I click "Retry," the backup proceeds. It does this about every ten minutes. I start R&R immediately after a reboot; without starting any other application. I use Microsoft Security Essentials for antivirus. I noted that some with a similar R&R problem found turning off Norton to fix the problem. It's not clear how to turn off Security Essentials. The fact that "Retry" always works causes me to think there really are no problems with the files, but the constant stopping with the need for manual intervention is making backing up almost impossible.

Hello all,

I had to send my laptop in for an RMA, so I made a system image of my drives using the Windows 7 backup utility. I have a single 250GB hard drive which is partitioned into two different drives. My C: had mostly Windows 7 files and some programs while my D: had game installations and was used for general storage. When I received the laptop back (they just had to replace my DVD drive), I noticed they reformatted my hard drive and threw Windows Vista back on the thing, but the partitions still looked to be the same as before.

My system images were stored on a 1TB external drive, so I booted off of a Windows 7 Recovery CD and attempted to restore the C: and D: drives. After 13 minutes in the progress bar reaches about 1/3 of the way in. The hard drive activity light switches from always on to just flickering every couple seconds and no more progress is made. I've given it over an hour just sitting at this spot, but no matter how much time is given, the restore does not progress.

I've tried changing different options in the restore utility (only restoring one drive, formatting the drives to match the images and not), but no matter what I do, I get the same problem. I've also tried running the system image recovery from a Windows 7 disk and from within Windows 7 after a clean install.

Does anyone have any suggestions? When I made the system image, I was told it was successful.

Thank you in advance for any help.

Answer:System image recovery stops partway through

While it is restoring the images, it has to erase what is currently on the drive. I would try the steps in the tutorial below. It will take awhile but it will clean the entire hard drive. Then you can try to restore the image and see if it goes any faster.

No. if you didn?t change partitions structure this should not be the problem.

Question is: does Toshiba recovery disc creator start or not? If you cannot star this tool it has nothing to do with recovery files.
Can you find this file - C:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Recovery Disc Creator\TRORDCLauncher.exe ?

So if I then lose the USB stick could I restore again by holding down zero when powering on?

After changing HDD partitions structure it happens that ?Toshiba recovery media creator? cannot find recovery files. These files are marked with special markers that in your case cannot be found anymore.

I?m afraid now is too late to do or change anything. You are not the first one with this problem. We always write here that first step should be recovery media creation and later you can do whatever you want. You can even delete it.

Now you can just order new recovery disc at https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx

Talk about confusing. Does anyone know how to get a Toshiba C660 working after the HDD has failed and the owner has stupidly NOT followed the instructions to make a recovery disk. Will the recovery disk ( if you purchase one from Toshiba ) rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition and install windows 7 (original OS ) and accept the product key printed on the Windows License attached to the base of the laptop. I have read a number of suggestions but these have been deemed incorrect by others.

Surely Toshiba must have a way of sorting this problem.

Do they read these posts ?

Answer:Satellite L660-12Q - Would recovery disk rebuild the new HDD along with a new recovery partition

Hi buddy?

I don?t think that this is really complicated? I could find all info regarding the recovery procedure in the user manual?

The recovery disk has to be created at the first day of purchase? its recommended to create one in cases something would be wrong with the HDD.

The recovery disk contain an image?. Image is a package containing Win system, drivers, tools and all the stuff preinstalled on the notebook.
You purchased the notebook and the system was already activated so you don?t need the key placed at the bottom of the unit.
Furthermore the usage of recovery disk formats the whole HDD (partitions too) and set the notebook back to the same state like at the first day of purchase.

There is also another option to recover the notebook called HDD recovery. This HDD recovery does not need recovery disk. Usage of HDD recovery would format ONLY the C (system) partition.

I just purchased a brand new laptop and have realised that it didn't come with a recovery disc or a recovery partition on the hard drive.

Just wondering if my hard disc crashes how am i supposed to reinstall windows?
The laptop i bought is a Toshiba satellite L500 and is only a few weeks old.

If anyone could help on the subject would be very much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite L500 - No recovery disc or recovery partition - How to reinstall?

Hi

Normally if I buy a new notebook or other product I read the user manual firstly. So I would recommend that you should the same before you ask different questions.

The point is that you have to create a Toshiba recovery disk yourself. Therefore start the recovery disk creator that is preinstalled on your notebook and follow the screen instructions. I recommend a high quality DVD-R medium to create this disk.

Furthermore you can reinstall Windows using the HDD recovery option. On the second partition you can find this folder that contains an image of factory settings and you can start this feature if you go in advanced boot menu and select ?repair my computer?. This is not a special partition, only a folder where the image is stored.

HDD recovery procedure is the same as Toshiba recovery disk. You get back factory settings too but the recovery disk wipes the whole HDD. The HDD recovery only the first partition.

By the way: Normally you did get this message:

Go to www.memtest.org and download Memtest. Its a bootable Floppy disk or CD that will test the memory for errors.

On My Toshiba Laptop Equium A110-238, bought 2006, the HDD lasted until last week, when it crashed. After replacing the HDD with a 160GB disc (original was 40GB) I started to use the recovery discs to get my system up. I have earlier used the discs (some years ago) for recovery.

I powered off, inserted the first disc, powered on (the CD/DVD was first in boot-seq) and the RAMDISK was created. I selected my language and selected a primary partition of 40GB, and the first disc started to unpack the files. A message came up when the disc had unpacked 100%, informing of number of files and directories that had been unpacked - and asked me to remove the disc - and then press OK.

I removed the disc, inserted the next disc and pressed OK. -- Nothing happened for the next hour. I then repeated the sequence, but without inserting disc number 2 -- same result.

Have I missed something?

Answer:Equium A110-238 - Product recovery stops after 1 disc

Hi buddy,

Theoretically this issue could be caused by new HDD because you wrote that you have used the recovery disks earlier and this worked?
Maybe the new HDD has defective sectors? Who knows?!

In your case I would recommend testing another (old) HDD or test Windows installation using a Microsoft disk.

Hello,

I've got a Satellite P30 since 2004 and it is good.

But since a few month, when I run a lot of applications simultaneously, or when I run applications that needs a lot of RAM or UC ressources (like games or a? or anti-virus in complete analysis), the notebook stop without a signal (sound or message).

Then, when I restart it, I go on a page that ask me for choosing between "without error mode" or "last good config" or "normal start".
Generaly, I start normaly (but the same thing occurs when I choose the others) but the notebook stop before the Windows login page in the same way.
It could occurs 5 to 10 times before the notebook restart correctly.

For information, this problem first occurs when I installed and runed the last Baphomet game. But since that, I've formated the notebook and reinstall it correctly and the problem have seemed to be desapeared. But now since 2 or 3 days, it came back.

Anyone have an idea of what is my problem?

Virus? Internal temperature? Hardware problem? Do I need a BIOS update?

Thanks for your interest and sorry for my english (i'm just french! :p )

Answer:My Satellite P30 stops untimely

Hi

> Virus? Internal temperature? Hardware problem? Do I need a BIOS update?

- Virus -> I don?t think it?s a Virus if you use the Antivirus software which is always up to date

- BIOS update -> would not recommend BIOS update because the notebook ran properly with this BIOS all the time long.

- Hardware problem -> maybe something wrong with the HDD but it?s not easy to say until you will buy a new HDD and will test it.

- Internal temperature -> most likely. In my experience the high temperature causes many strange issues and this sounds like an overheating. Possibly the fans are dirty and dust and debris prevents the cooling module from properly running. In my opinion the fans should be cleaned. The vacuum cleaner is a nice toy but risky because the strong vacuuming can damage the fans. Many computer shops provide professional compressed air sprays which can be used to clean the ventilators.

If it does not help I would recommend contacting an notebook technician for professional cleaning. Maybe a new thermal grease which is placed between the CPU and the cooling modules could improve the situation.

My two-year old Satellite C75-A-14X suffered a major hard drive crash a few weeks ago. My data has been backed up, but I've been unable to repair my PC, and as I hadn't created any recovery media, I bought a system recovery USB stick from Toshiba. I received the USB stick today and attempted to restore my laptop to its factory default settings. I left my laptop to perform the recovery for about an hour or so. When I returned, the screen said that there was an error (I didn't make a note of the error code) and the recovery had failed. Now, when I restart my laptop I get a blue screen with the following text:

"Recovery

Your PC needs to be repaired

A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed.

Error code: 0xc000000f

You'll need to use the recovery tools on your installation media. If you don't have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your system administrator or PC manufacturer.

Press Enter to try again
Press F8 for Startup Settings
Press Esc for UEFI Firmware Settings"

When I press Enter or F8, my laptop remains on the blue screen with the above text. Pressing Esc is the only option at this screen that works. How can I re-attempt restoring factory settings from the recovery USB stick?

Hi,

I have SATELLITE L350D-212 notebook with windows 7 home premium OA.
It started to complain that there was something wrong with the harddisk so I went and bought another harddisk of same size.

I have created the recovery disk when the computer was bought and have backup of all the data in external harddisk.

After I changed the new harddisk to the notebook and tried to boot from recovery disk nothing happens eventhoug I can see that there seems to be everything Ok with the disk.

Any ideas on how to get the recovery to run for the new harddisk?

I have the old harddisk attached as external disk via USB but can't boot from that too. It just stops at some point and says to shutdown.

Answer:Satellite L350D-21 Problems using recovery disks to recovery to new HDD

Usually the recovery disk should format the new HDD but I would recommend to attach the new HDD as an external device to another computer and to format this new HDD before trying to recover the notebook.

Good luck

However i don't think it came with a disc.
Does anyone know how initiate the system recovery on this laptop?

Answer:Satellite U400-146 - How to start recovery without the recovery disk

Hi

The Recovery disk was not provided with the notebook because there was a tool called Toshiba Recovery disk Creator which allows you to create a recovery disk!
Please check if you can create a recovery disk using this tool!

If this is not possible, then you can check if the HDD recovery is available.
For more details check this HOW TO:

I would greatly appreciate advice on the following.

My Sat Pro M70-220 (PSM75E-00D008G3), laptop has 4 partitions created by Acronis Disk Director Suit v9:

C: OS-Win XP Pro SP3
D: Programs
E: Data& Downloads
F: Backups

After booting the laptop into Win XP, I inserted the Toshiba Product Recovery CD into the DVD-RAM drive
and navigated to BMP folder, R:\G_INST\BMP, where I found the file "menu.bmp" which gives 2 Recovery
options:

*1. Recover entire Hard disk*
Warning . All stored data o your computer will be lost.
Factory pre-installed software will be installed.

*2. Expert Recovery Mode Warning:*
This is for PC experts only.
Factory pre-installed Software can be installed onto an existing partition.

My questions are with respect to using the "Expert Recovery Mode" :
- will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions ?
- will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions ?
- what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
- where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

Thank you

Answer:Re: Using Expert Recovery Mode in Product Recovery CD for Satellite Pro M70-220

>will I be able to use the "Expert Recovery Mode" of the Recovery CD to reinstall the Win XP Pro (factory pre-installed software) onto my C: partition, whilst not affecting the D, E & F partitions

Yes, this should be possible. Using the Expert Recovery Mode you should get the Ghost window in which you could select the partition where the OS should be installed. In such case only this partition would be formatted.

> will I be able to format the C: partition, using the "Expert Recovery Mode", without formatting the other partitions?

Yes, theoretically this should be possible.

> what is the exact "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?
As I mentioned above, this mode allows you to restore the OS on a certain partition and only this partition will be formatted.

> where can I find further info on the "Expert Recovery Mode" procedure ?

Hi all

I have a customers Sat M40-197 which was badly messed up with malware so I did a full recovery using the supplied disc which has the product number PMR400490EN0. After restart the system just hangs in normal mode, and on safe mode I notice that the last line logged is Mup.sys but even in that mode the system still doesn't start. I've tried using Ghost in advanced mode not resizing the partition but no matter what I try I can't get it to start.

Before I take what I think is my only option of using a standard OEM XP Home disc and installing using the supplied product key I was wondering if anyone had any solutions to this?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite M40: Recovery procedure hangs on restart after using recovery CD

Hi,

sounds first like some Recovery CD error. I mean it?s possible that the CD is physically damaged or whatever and then some data may be corrupted.

If not then I would assume the following reasons:

- HDD is not properly formatted -> reformat it completely and create one BIG partition
- HDD is faulty -> check the HDD with some special HDD tool from the manufacturer (in most cases you can download it from the manufacturers website)
You can also download "UBCD4WIN" (just google for it) and check your HDD with the integrated tools
- The memory could be faulty -> use the "UBCD4WIN" and check the memory with "PI" or "SuperPI"

Thats it..

I would use a USB keyboard and/or mouse to complete the setup. You need to go online and get the drivers for the components, in this case probably including the chipset. These usually are on the supplemental disk which I believe you said is missing in another thread. It may be easier to download them using a different machine and then bring them over on a usb stick or dvd disk. Or bring over just the network drivers so you can download directly.

Hi,
When I try to start the laptop the Power button gets blue, I hear the CD drive making its tests, the fan starts for 5-10 seconds then stops and the screen remains black all this time. I encounter this behavior when I connect only A/C, only battery or both (AC and battery).

I tried to connect an external monitor and still nothing displayed on it - the BIOS settings are on both LCD and external display.

I disconnected the HDD in order to decrease the power consumption and to eliminate it from the list of possible source of failures.

From time to time I manage to see the POST and then the OS boot loading message on both LCD and monitor but after restart or power on//off I get the same black screen.
I searched on the internet and a lot of people had this sort of issue with different Satellite versions but did not find any solution for it.

Many thanks for any hint.

> I searched on the internet and a lot of people had this sort of issue with different Satellite versions but did not find any solution for it.
Do you really think there is some ?magic solution? for this? It is definitely some serious hardware problem that must be investigated in service with diagnostic tools.

All you do at the moment is right and you can eventually find out what the problem can be but question is: how to fix this? Can you repair manboard? Can you exchange mainboard? What you can do about it?

In my opinion all you can do is to find some cheap already used mainboard, exchange it and hope everything will be OK again. This can be a kind of challenge for you and hope you can fix it. Other way, sell it on eBay and obtain newer piece of hardware.

Sorry but I just try to be a bit realistic.

Maybe overheating! What you think? Satellite M30x is pretty old notebook and maybe it should be cleaned properly. Dust placed on cooling grill stops cooling process and hardware can be too hot.

Suddenly switching off without warning is typical result of overheating.

What you can do to adjust the fan activity is changing the cooling method in Windows Power Management. You can set it from Maximum Performance to Battery Optimized.

High temp could affect the hardware parts like CPU, RAM, GPU

My issue looks like this:

All the USB ports die after several minutes (the time can vary but is getting shorter recently) after booting up. They don't give any error - the USB mouse stops to respond, the USB hard drive gives stops giving "delayed writing failure" or sth like this. They are all visible and OK in Device Manager (WinXP), no problems being reported here. They just stop working. I tried reinstalling Windows. It is not dependent on the OS actually. I can boot for example from a SuSe Linux live CD and the ports will also die after some minutes - they do it on any tested OS.

Now I discovered (GOOGLE usb ports stop working until reboot) that several Satellite M60 users report this problem with their old laptops. Exactly the same - ports die after some time from boot-up and stay like this until reboot. In one case the user written that he bought a cardbus PCMCIA USB controller and the problem continued - the ports on the controller where dying along with on-board ones.

My idea is to try PCMCIA anyway - perhaps it will work in my case (another chip etc. - you never know). And anothr one is to try to connect a USB hub to the available Firewire port. There are USB to Firewire converter plugs - could it work like this?

Does anybody know any solution to my problem or have any opinion about my ideas? I am looking at buying a new laptop, which I cannot really afford right now...

Answer:Satellite M60-132 - USB stops working until reboot

Hello

To be honest I never read about such problems on Satellite M60 but this can happen from time to time because it?s also a pretty old notebook.

My friend is also using a PCMCIA card that provides USB ports on his old notebook. He is absolutely satisfied with this solution because he don?t need every time the USB ports. Just sometimes if he copies some files from USB stick.
Such cards are not expensive, you can get it for few Euro?s and you can buy this card wherever you want, e. g. Amazon.co.uk.

I never heard about firewire to USB ports? This is new for me and I don?t have experience with this.

Problem with my charging/power on my notebook.

Intermittantly, when using the AC power adapter to charge the battery, the battery will charge for a time (with LED glowing amber) then (after no specific time) the amber light will go out, and stop charging. Looking at the battery icon in the desktop tray when this happens shows the notebook to be running on the battery, even though the AC power supply is still attached.

Moving the AC power supply jack in the socket of the back of the notebook makes no difference. It's almost as if the notebook is not recognising that AC adapter is there.

To add confusion, if I use the notebook on AC power alone (i.e remove the battery totally), the power will randomly cut out. This is also intermitant, and happens even if the notebook is not in use.

I have checked the power meter settings, and i have the most up-to-date drivers for the toshiba power saving utilities. i have also replaced the AC power supply and the battery.

Any Ideas?

The best solution is to replace HDD with the same model. On this way you will be sure that everything will be OK. What you need is HDD with IDE(ATA-5) interface. The newest notebooks are delivered with SATA interface.

Hi,

I have a question regarding the ESC key on my Satellite C660. I am very happy with the laptop, however what annoys me is that from time to time the ESC key stops working. If I restart the computer, it functions again. Furthermore, the volume on/off function (FN+Esc) works, so I don't think that it is a hardware issue.

I don't know whether there is a secret key combination to stop the ESC key working which I press unknowingly or whether one of Toshiba's own programs manages the key's functioning.

Can you help me?

thanks!

Answer:Satellite C660 - ESC key stops working

You are right about secret key combination to stop ESC functionality. Something like this doesn?t exist but I also don?t know how to understand this problem.
> ... from time to time the ESC key stops working
What are you doing with ESC key and how often do you use it (for which purpose) to know that sometimes it doesn?t work.

Hi,

I got a Satellite A200-1CK and my CPU fan stops cooling. Not that my CPU is getting not enough cooling. But when I am using my laptop at school to use it for virtualization of OS it gets warmer and the cooler isn't going to spin.

Is the CPU cooler broken or is it just an setting in the bios?

Please check the BIOS settings but on my A200 I can?t see anything that can help.

My laptop crashed (Toshiba L305-s5921 series).
I dont have the recover discs, but I do have the recovery disc for my Toshiba A215 series.

Can i recover my laptop with this disc.

Answer:Can I use the Satellite A215 recovery disk for Satellite L305-s5921

No!

You can not use the Recovery disk designed for A215 because the A215 is simply different notebook model which need different drivers as the L305!

The image on the recovery disk contains the OS, drivers and tools and if you would use different recovery disk then wrong drivers would be installed on the L305 and this can lead to other troubles!!!

Hi all,

here is my GOAL: I want to reinstall the original Windows Vista as it was when we bought that laptop.

My PROBLEM: we never succeeded to create that recovery DVDs (just after the purchase), always gave an error... today and to my surprise, I cannot find any recovery tool from the OS either...

1- At power off/on: I tried the "0" key (as read in internet) but did not do anything special..

2- I tried then from this options menu (after F8 at reboot): REPAIR YOUR COMPUTER
Then (after choosing spanish language and logging as user) I tried to lo launch the WINDOWS COMPLETE RESTORE but it said that no CD/DVD found ....(no current issue with this CD/DVD player = working fine)

3- I tried then the other interesting option : HHD RECOVERY (More or less like this, as I have it in spanish version)...Just a pop-up opened (maybe about the recovery DVDs) but without any buttons to follow the process....

Trickier situation now, isn't it?

4- INFO:
I could find the hidden partition and unhide it. It contains folder and files: a 'source' folder, 'boot.sdi' file if I remember well..and maybe more..
=> I copied them on a USB key and recorded as well on a new DVD (and the image.iso of them as well) and repeat the above points 2 and 3, but nothing changed...(the content of this DVD is read without any problem on another laptop)

Answer:Satellite A100-999: Recovery process (without recovery DVD/CDs) ?

I understand now that these files (in hidden partition) are those used for showing this special menu (after clicking REPAIR MY COMPUTER) with WINDOWS COMPLETE RESTORE, HHD RECOVERY, ...

Is that right?

Then I suppose that I should have a RECOVERY folder somewhere..but I read in some posts that comment type :"the A100 series has not been equipped with the HDD recovery partition"

If not available then, I'm already then on this last-chance-step explained above? this means to order the recovery DVD on [https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx|https://backupmedia.toshiba.eu/landing.aspx]

Hi,

Well, for the first time in 8 years I had to do a system recovery using the disks i created when i first bought my l300-13s using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator.
I had inadvertantly deleted the HDD Recovery partition when i set out to do a clone using a bigger HDD.

What I want to find out is instead of making recovery disks to DVD can i make a recovery USB flash drive?

Thanks

Peter.

Answer:Satellite L300-13S - Recovery USB instead of Recovery DVD Disks?

When you open Toshiba recovery media creator you can see options which media can be created. I?m not 100% sure but I think on old L300 there was option for recovery DVDs only so I think you cannot create recovery USB.

I have updated all the wireless drivers on the laptop. It is running Vista and all updates have been applied.

The wireless connection keeps stopping intermittently. It doent lose association with the access point but pings fail, where another computer associated to the same access point works fine. I have run a pc os linux live version on the laptop and it stays connected no problem. SO it seems to be something windows / vista related but im unsure what. I havent checked the bios to see if there is an updtae, not sure if that would help, but has anyone seen this.

Sometimes its worse than others, and one "possible" thing thaht makes it worse is when there is a higher load of trafiic going through the adaptor, such as a download. Tested the same in the linux setup and it continued to work without problems.

Any tips ideas appreciated.

Thanks

Hi,

In the beginning of this week I bought Toshiba satellite Z30-A-1D0.

My touchpad seemed fine but once in a while the cursor stops working for about 1 minute. I can use the left and right button of the touchpad but I just can't move the cursor.

First I thought that I accidentally had locked the touchpad so I pressed Fn+F9 and the light turned on meaning that the touchpad was locked, then I pressed it again and the cursor was still not moving, it only starts almost a minute after... I've tried to be at alert to what I'm doing in the touchpad but it happens when i'm just moving the cursor.

This happens about 4 times a day and the fisrt time it happened was on the day I bought. And I never used a USB mouse in this computer.

Thanks for your atention to my problem and hope you can help me.

Hi Maz

For me it is not normal but using Vista there are many other things that can be defined as ?not normal?. Now I do not thing on Toshiba specific stuff but on general Vista problematic. But we do not have choice. Vista is here and hopefully it will be better and better.

Back to your question: if I am understand it right you have some problems with ATI graphic driver. Check please ATI properties and ?Catalyst control Centre? and all settings there. I do not know for sure what it can be but please take a look and make some tests.

I hope you will be able to make it working well again.

Now I upgraded to L70-a-K5S and reconnected mouse to this notebook.
After using for a few minutes, mouse stops responding.

If I switch off/on mouse it works fine. Sometimes it wakes up by itself.
I tried to install Logitech software (SetPoint), doesn't help.

When I reconnect mouse back to old Satellite it works fine.

Hi

We have an L450D-119 running Windows 7 64bit.

Occasionally, the keyboard simply stops typing. There is no explanation and no repeatable event. It does not seem to be after any repeatable activity like suspend or hibernate, it just seems to happen. A reboot cures the problem.

It is worth noting that when the keyboard has stopped accepting characters the mouse pad and buttons still work.

This is my second L450D-119, the first was returned with 24 hours for the same reason.

It seems this one has always done it to some extent and the user, not me I might add, has simply seen it as an annoyance and rebooting - clearly this is unacceptable.

My choices are fix it or take it back. So by posting on this forum I am hoping to find a resolution but if nothing is forth coming I shall be forced to take it back and this time it will be for a refund and not exchange.

Thank you for your help and any suggestions

Regards

Answer:Satellite L450D-119 - Keyboard just stops typing

Hi,

Have you installed any keyboard/mouse drivers? (for an external Logitech mouse for example)
Maybe there is a 3rd party driver installed that is conflicting.

Also check the Sticky Keys settings. If you hold down some keys, Sticky Keys may activate. Untick "Turn on Sticky Keys"
Win7: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center\Make the keyboard easier to use

A BIOS Update may also help. You can download the latest BIOS from the Toshiba Website.

Hello, i wanted to know if there is already an update for my problem.

I have the problem, that after going in standby-mode or in passive state (ruhezustand) and reactivating with my P100-194 the fan regulation of the GPU stops doing his job. The fan on the left side does not work any more and so the GPU gets up to 110 ? Celsius (meassured with Everest Home Edition). The environment of the GPU gets up to 104 ? C. Then I have to restart the system to keep it from damage.

After restart the System the fan goes for about 2 minutes with full power and i can feel the temperature of the keyboard going down. 5 Minutes later the GPU still has 85 ?C
I am running the BIOS 2.40 and the problem still consists.

regards,
Gabriel Kn?pfle

Answer:Satellite P100-194: GPU gets to 110C - Fan regulation stops after standby

You must not worry about damage. If the notebook is not defective the hardware will self-controlled and before something burnout the unit simply switch OFF alone. If you check this forum you will see that many users written about suddenly switching OFF and overheating.

If GPU runs with 110 ? Celsius, what is the temperature of CPU and HDD? Have you maybe mixed C and F? The whole cooling method and in which moment which cooling fan should work is controlled by system and honestly I don?t see there any serious problem.

If unit starts to switch OFF itself then we can write about problematic issue.

Hi,
my M40 sometimes stops booting after the Toshiba Screen. It stops and all I can see is the flashing cursor. No Error-Message or something else and normal booting from HDD. Booting from CD (eg. Knoppix) works. This problem only occurs sometimes and isn?t traceable for me.

Best Regards
Spoony

Answer:Satellite M40 - 129 stops booting after Toshiba Screen

Hi Spoony

Unfortunately on this way it is not easy to say why this happen. Every user has individual OS configuration and we don?t know how your OS is configured.

Can you start OS in ?safe mode?? If yes check a little bit what the problem can be. If there is nothing that you can do I recommend you to save all your data and preinstall unit using recovery media. If you do this I also recommend you to create two partitions.

Don?t compare WXP and Linux booting procedure. Like you know Knoppix uses just RAM and not HDD for running.

Hi!

Why when I install Windows XP on my PC overheated and stops in the middle of installing?

Why windows XP run so long, on the other PC that windows loads by 3 times faster!

My PC is Satellite A300D-14P PSAKE8E

Answer:Re: Satellite A300D-14P - XP stops in the middle of installation

If your notebook gets too hot, have you cleaned it?
From time to time you should clean the notebook or let?s say the cooling ventilators.
You can use compressed air spray this could blow out dust from the cooling ventilators. So I clean my notebook if it?s necessary.

And what do you mean with Windows XP runs on an other PC 3 times faster?
Maybe the PC has a faster hardware configuration as the Satellite.
To improve the performance you can do a lot of things: defragment the HDD, remove all not necessary programs, clean the registry, disable some services, check the auto start programs in msconfig and so far.

Hi there.

Will be happy if someone can help with this issue.

I connected my Satellite L750, PSK2YA-04K010 with Windows 7 sp1, (64 bit) to my TV today using a brand new HDMI cable. It worked fine for a while and then the display on the TV went dead. I could still manage to get the display on the laptop to work.

I used Fn + F5 to see if I can trouble get it back to life but it did not work. After a long struggle, I just could not get the TV to work again with HDMI.

I checked to see if I have all the latest drivers and all seem OK. I re-installed the nVidia video drivers and then tested it again. Same thing happened. It work for a while and then died on me again.

I noticed that I have a version 1.5 BIOS but can't find a site where it lists the latest BIOS update.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Hein

Answer:HDMI stops working on Satellite L750

Hello Hein

It is not easy to understand what the problem can be but try please to use other HDMI port on your TV if there are few of them. Use, for instance HDMI 2, enable it on your TV and then use FN+F5 key combination again.

When you press FN+F5 are still several options listed there?
Can you switch on TV again?

My Satelite A30-213 stops almost everytime when I enter an internet site with lots of uploadings. The machine spins in about one minute or so and closes down. I know that my RAM is only 256Kb. Is that why, and in that case, what can I do about it?

Answer:Satellite A30-213 - stops after loading some Internet page

Hello

It is not easy to give a proper answer but the fact is that 256 MB RAM for WXP usage is really not much. I do not know which A30 you have exactly but some of them can be upgraded up to 2 GB RAM.

RAM modules are not expensive anymore and I recommend you to upgrade it to 1 GB minimum. After doing this the notebook will have much more resources and will run much faster.

I have a Satellite C850 only 8 months old and the keyboard just stops working quite frequently. I have to click where I left off and start typing again but a few letters later it freezes again. I have a USB keyboard and mouse attached and it does the same on the USB keyboard as on the laptop keyboard. It leads me to think that it's a driver problem.

I have researched forums and reset to default in BIOS and also tried pressing FN, left Shift, Left CTrl then Right Shift which one forum said works but it doesn't.

Any ideas before it goes in the bin?

Answer:Satellite C850 - Keyboard stops working

Check please if newer BIOS version is available. If I?m remembering well in the past similar issues were fixed with new BIOS version.

Hi,

Very often, when I restart my laptop, and after typing my user password the screen goes black and the system stops loading windows.

And then, without doing anything, if I restart (sometime once, sometimes two or three times) it works again.

Have you made a recovery with the recovery disk? It could be also a problem with Windows and a reinstallation would solve this problem.

What do you mean exactly by system restore?

Did you use the Toshiba Recovery DVD or Toshiba HDD Recovery procedure to set the notebook back to factory settings?
In case you did not try that, I recommend doing this!

Fact is that this recovery procedure should fix the system/software issues and in my opinion it looks more like a software as a hardware problem.

Hello everybody,

I' m using Satellite SA30-203. In last few days, main fan of my computer never stops when the adaptor is plugged. When the computer works with battery, main fan is sometimes -normally- stopping.
I' m not working with a software that needs to much CPU. So, what could be the problem?

Regards,
Tunc

Answer:Satellite A30-203: Cooling never stops when the adaptor is plugged

Hi Tunc

In my opinion the activity of the CPU is not affected just by software that you use but all activities. Many of those activities run in the background and the CPU works constantly. Please don?t forget that the CPU is not the only source who produces a lot of warmness. The graphic card is also responsible for the warmness.

Like you know all hardware components are placed side to side and it must be cooled properly. On my Qosmio F20 cooling fan starts to runs even if the download of some files is active.

Believe me there is no problem. You have a high-tech unit with the newest hardware components and the unit must be cooled properly. I can recommend you to change ?Cooling method? in Power saver utility and set it to ?Silent mode?.

Good luck!

Hi,

I have a Toshiba Satellite A110-180 and when I turn on the computer the fan starts running but it stops in a few seconds and starts again in a while and stops again and starts..... Then the laptop gets heat quickly.

I bought the laptop around 5 years ago so I think that the problem is either the fan or the circuit that controls the fan. Can someone that has had the same problem make me sure that the fan is the problem?

The part number of the fan is ATZHG000500. Does anybody know if a fan with P/N ATZHG000100 is compatible with my laptop or if I can use other fan?

Thanks for your help,

Answer:Satellite A110-180 - Fan starts but stops after few seconds

Hi Wiley,

First of all it?s normal that the fan starts and after few seconds or 1 minute it stops. Depending on the programs that you run the fan start again after few seconds or minutes. So theoretically it?s normal what happens to you.

But if your notebook is around 5 years old you should try to clean it. Therefore I can recommend compressed air spray. This could blow out the dust from the cooling ventilators. It?s very cheap but very useful.
Check this!!

Furthermore I think the thermal grease must be renewed? An authorized notebook technicians can help you and answer if the other fan part number fit in your notebook. :)

The problem started after I disassembled the laptop to clean it up from dust.
As it usually happens a good intention ended up with something bad.

After this operations I have noticed horizontal lines flickering on the screen.
I can't see any regularity, but when I use it lying in the bed it happens seldom, but left on the desk it flickers really often.
When the screen is slightly moved the flickering stops.

Well, I thought that a loose connection is causing the problem, so I opened it and tried to move every cable and every connection I could see.
I even opened the screen display and used some silicon glue gun to stick the cables.

It didn't help, thought I thing for a few days flickering was much less often.

Any ideas on what can be done to fix it?

Answer:Screen flickers but stops when moved Satellite C

Puhhh…. I guess you had damaged something while disassembling procedure…

It could be also possible that a shield which reduces electromagnetic interferences has been removed from some cables or parts…

Sorry mate but it’s really difficult to say why this appears especially after disassembling and opening the notebook at the own hand
