Preferred Solution: Satellite A80: Issue with Toshiba Control buttons

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Answer: Satellite A80: Issue with Toshiba Control buttons

Did you check the settings in the ?Toshiba Control Properties??
There you will find two tabs. Please check if the option ?DVD Video Control? in the section ?Select Player? under tabs ?Media Apps? is selected.
There you have to choose WinDVD.

I recently bought a Satellite A300-15A ; model: PSAJ4E;

The laptop has 6 Multimedia keys on the top.
As described in the manual, they are supposed to perform the following funtions (left to right): (i am numbering them for convinience to mention them afterwards)
1. Mute/ LED On/Off Button
2. CD/DVD Button
3.Play/Pause Button
4.Stop Button
5.Previous Button
6.Next Button

Can someone elaborate on all the above buttons.

The only function these peform for me are as folllows;
1st Button only switches the LED off/on but does not perform any mute operation with any application (not even Windows Media Player). Even when it performs the LED off operation; only the 6 keys and the bottom 'SATELLITE' display is off; the other LED's (DC in, Powe. Battery, Disk) are still on......what is the problem and how can i start its mute operation so that i can mute the pc with any application running.

2nd button does nothing but open windows media player. What is it supposed to do exactly?

All the other keys do nothing but work on Windows Media Player. They dont work on any other application; be it VLC or any other. How can I make them work on all the media applications......

Please do elaborate and reply with solutions.

Answer:Satellite A300-15A: How does the Toshiba Control buttons work?

3-6 buttons work well also with other applications , all you have to do is to choose an actual option in Application preferences (not notebook's !).

According to the first two buttons, i got the same problems... I found out that older version of Toshiba software had "Toshiba controls" application in Control panel used to change settings for all of these button.. but now it dissappeared ;< I am already looking for any way of changing 2nd button result :) If i found out any other than changing the registry then i'll let u know here :)

@EDIT : Found it in Toshiba Assist / Optimalize/

I have a Satellite A200-1ZF with Vista installed originally.
I removed Vista and install XP. And then installed all drivers and almost everything is working but those keys (power, www, mediaplayer, play, stop, back, next) on the upside of notebook don't work. :/

Only power work properly ...sometimes www and mediaplayer, but rest of it doesn,t work at all.
I have Windows Media Player 9 series. I don't know if it is problem with my drivers or windows media version or something else..

please help..

Answer:Re: Satellite A200-1ZF Win XP & Toshiba Control buttons don't work

Satellite A200-1ZF belongs to the PSAE6E series.
Choose this series in the Toshiba European driver download form.

There you will find a XP BIOS. If you are using Win XP on this notebook then you have to update the BIOS to the XP version!
Furthermore you have to install the Toshiba Controls v.

This tool is needed to get the Toshiba Media buttons working!

Hi ya

Can I make the Media control buttons on my Toshiba L350-10B work with MediaMonkey?
I don't use WMP... I found the application RemoteX from programator Gennady Rakhvalov, but the Mute button doesn't work there.

So is there any way to use the buttons with MediaMonkey?

Answer:Satellite L350-10B - Can I use Toshiba Control buttons with MediaMonkey

Usually the Toshiba Control buttons are configured for Windows Media Player and you cannot configure it with other player software if such player software does not support the needed options.

I use the WinAmp with my Toshiba Control buttons but this function has been enabled it WinAmp itself.

'turn off lights' and 'windows media player' media buttons do not work anymore...
They did a couple of days ago. Not sure why they have stopped working.

When I open media player manually, the *play/pause, stop, previous/next* buttons *do* work, just the *lights on/off* and *media player* buttons don't.
If anyone has had the same problem or knows how to fix it, would be very grateful if you could let me know...

Thank you !!!

I am a new user of toshiba laptops so i bought this pc and I downgrade from Vista home premium to XP SP3 and I have problem with multimedia bar above my keyboard and also I have problem with Function of Fn buttons.
I mean when I pres Fn button and some from F1 to f12 nothing happens.

Please please help??

Answer:Re: Satellite A300-1EB: Toshiba Control buttons & FN keys don't work on Win XP

The Satellite A300-1EB belongs to the PSAG0E series.
So please choose firstly the right notebook series before you will start to download the XP drivers.

After choosing the right notebook model you will have to reinstall the XP drivers.

The Common Module and Hotkey Utility are necessary to get the FN keys working.
The Common Modules must be installed at first.

To get the Multimedia buttons working you will have to install the ?Controls? .
I didn?t find it in the PSAG0E series but in other A300 series like PSAGCE. So check it out!

By the way: SP3 can causes some compatibility issues... so maybe you should remove it firstly!

I have a satellite A105 that came with windows XP media center installed. I decided that I would rather format and put on xp pro.

Now that I have made the switch I can not seem to get the cd player buttons to control iTunes.
Before I switched OS versions, I changed the Toshiba Controls Properties - Buttons Tab to launch Firefox and iTunes.

Doing so somehow meant that if I was running iTunes and I hit the stop button the music would stop etc.
Now that I have re-installed the drivers for the Controls and once again changed the defaults to Firefox and iTunes, they both launch when I hit the internet button or when I hit the music button.

But now if I am listening to iTunes and I hit the pause button or the stop button it launches windows media player!
If I hit |<< or >>| nothing happens at all.
I was happy with the way it behaved previously.

Can anybody help?
The only option it gives me for CD audio controls is windows media player. Can I alter a file somewhere to change this?

Answer:Satellite A105: How to configure the Toshiba Control buttons to start iTunes

I assume you have changed the settings only in the ?Button? tab of the Toshiba Controls Properties.

I think you should check the settings in the tab called ?Media Apps?.

Check if it?s possible to change the settings in the ?CD audio control?.

Now I am using Windows 7 and I cannot find that driver and the keys are not working.

How can I fix this problem?

There are enough threads about similar themes?

2) why you don?t provide any info about your notebook model?

I would appreciate to help me to solve the problem.

Unfortunately I deactivated them with an accidental combination of keys pressing.

How am I able to re-activate these functions?

Thanx for your help.

Answer:Accidentally disabled Toshiba Control buttons Ė How to enable it

I really don?t know how the Toshiba control buttons can be deactivated? ?:|
However, the Toshiba control Utility can be found in the Control Panel.
There you should check the properties and if the buttons are configured correctly.

If this doesn?t help? uninstall the Toshiba controls, download the newest Controls Utility from the Toshiba driver page and reinstall this tool.
Don?t forget to reboot after every single process.

Answer:Toshiba laptops, how can i disable my audio/video control buttons

There is a software program that runs in windows that needs to be disabled - On mine its called Ez Buttons, yours might be different. If you go to RUN and type MSCONFIG - you should see an entry in the STARTUP that controls those buttons - remove it (uncheck it).

Hello everybody

I have Windows Vista 64-bit installed on my Qosmio F30, but the front operation buttons are not working.
I tried to use the Vista 32-bit configuration drivers but when I press any, I receive the following error :"this function not supported".

So please can any one help me to overcome this problem.

Answer:Qosmio F30: Toshiba control buttons don't work on Vista 64bit

You cannot use these Toshiba control buttons (play, pause, etc) because the necessary drivers are not installed.

You will need a compatible Vista Value Added package but it seems that Toshiba page does not provide the 64bit VAP but only 32bit version.
The problem is that the software for 32bit Vista does not function on Vista 64bit OS.

So in my opinion there is nothing to do at this time

I have an A355-S6879 Toshiba Satellite and am trying to find replacement left and right click buttons. I don't need to replace the board under the buttons--just the buttons themselves. The hinge on the left click button has broken, and the craptastic way in which they're made leads me to believe I may as well get one to replace the right as well. The problem is--I cannot, for the life of me, find the parts. I'm sure I'm just searching for the wrong things since I don't really know what these "keys" or "buttons" are technically called, so if someone could throw me a link or suggest an appropriate term, I'd be appreciative.

Why would Toshiba put these buttons on here if they are so hard to configure? or not able to be configured?

I bought a new Toshiba A300-1MX a few days ago.
I had windows XP installed. Service Pack 3. BIOS is version 1.50 (says so in the BIOS).

The problem: My shiny media keys dont work. They just dont respond.
Anyone with any suggestions?

I have downloaded the commute models models driver for XP plus the hotkey utility for XP, and after installing it the FN keys (ESC, F1-5-6-7-10-11) work (altho the F2,3,4,8,9,12 dont work).

Thanks people.

Answer:Control buttons don't work on Satellite A300 with Win XP

Because the A300-1MX belongs to the PSAGCE series you have to choose and download the XP drivers for this model.

I checked the Toshiba driver page and there is a BIOS 1.40 only. So don?t understand why you talk about 1.50 Bios.

Secondly the Toshiba media buttons will function if you would install the Toshiba Controls utility from the page.
Last but not least you need Common Modules to get the FN buttons working.
The single FN buttons like F9 for example need a additional tool like Touch Pad On/Off Utility
The Fn F2 or FN F3 will work if a Power Saver has been installed and hibernation has been enabled.

So as you see you need further tools!

You have to install the Toshiba Vista Value Added Package to get the Toshiba Control buttons functionality.
Also the FN buttons should work after the VAP installation.
The point is that Vista FlashCards controls the FN buttons and the FlashCards are a part of the VAP.

I would also recommend installing the Button Support because it allows you to customize and preset TOSHIBA special button settings

Hello Everyone.

Recently, I've downgraded my Satellite A305D-S6848 laptop from windows Vista to XP SP3. Everything is working correctly and all pieces of hardware report that the correct drivers are installed under the device manager in Windows (no "yellow bang" or anything like that). However, I have noticed that none of my media control buttons along the top of my keyboard do anything any more (with the exception of the mute button which still works). I've been searching through the forums to find a solution to the problem (and I have found a few relevant threads with answered questions) but sadly none of the proposed solutions have worked out for me. Is there anything I'm missing in order to gain functionality of these buttons (additional drivers, software, etc.)?

Any help or suggestion is greatly appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Answer:Media Control Buttons are Unresponsive on my Satellite A305D

I don't know how it works in US but those buttons working well if the ?Toshiba Controls? is preinstalled. This tool is responsible for functionality and settings for these multimedia buttons.

In my knowledge the A105-S361 was designed for US market and therefore if it?s a software issue you should look on the Toshiba US driver page.

I assume you mean the Toshiba Control buttons functionality.
Either the utility was not configured or does not work. In such case I would suggest reinstalling this tool and then after notebook rebooting you could try to install it again.

Hey all,

I have a Toshiba Satellite U400-217, which is a year old.

For some reason lately the light button on the media controls does not seem to work - where it usually would light up the touchpad line and the Satellite writing. The other media control buttons seem to work fine. If I touch the light button, it lights for a second to tell me its been touched then disappears and nothing else happens.
What could be the problem?

I have searched various sites looking for an answer but just can't seem to find any, I even looked for the driver but couldn't find this not even on Toshiba's site - I have no idea what the driver is even called. I also tried turning the laptop off, removing battery, putting battery back in and connecting to charger. With no luck. Help would be much appreciated - I hope someone can offer me information to get it to work! Thank you in advance,

I Have a problem.
I changed windows on my notebook from Vista to Windows 7.

I searched on homepage and i didn't find drivers for Flasch card's and FrontPanel, is not lit :(

Pls Help me !

Answer:Satellite A200-1AE - Need drivers for Flash card and Toshiba buttons

The Toshiba Multimedia buttons are controlled by VAP (value added package).
Since the VAP is model independent, the VAP for Satellite L500 should run also on Sat A200?
Therefore download the VAP for Sat L500 and check how it would works on your A200?

One question:
What do you mean by Flasch card's??
Do you mean the FN buttons or the card reader???

The FN buttons are controller by Flash Card Support Utility which can be downloaded also from Satellite L500 driver area?

Check it!

I was using Toshiba Button Controls (play/pause, stop, back/forward buttons) with Winamp and was perfect (but the FN+f2,f5,f6,f7,f8 and f9 were not working but i didn't mind) on my Satelitte A200.

But two days ago i have updated the BIOS to the newest version and the FN command started to work but the play, stop and b/f buttons are not working anymore (tried with Media Player too).

I have reinstalled the control drivers and is the same thing.

Do you have any idea how could i solve this problem?

Answer:Satellite A200 - Toshiba Controll Buttons stopped working

Have you only reinstalled the Toshiba controls driver or controls software too?
I think you should try to reinstall both applications.

So remove both applications in Add or Remove programs. After this restart the notebook and use CCleaner to remove still existing files from these programs and restart the notebook again.
Then install the Controls driver first and then Controls software.
Usually the driver must always been installed first.

Check this!!

Ok, so I just got this laptop on Sunday.
It has the media control buttons on it, but they won't work.
I've read a few posts about it, saying that I need to download the Control driver..
Well, I spent hours last night looking for it. :\
Anyone have the direct link to it?

Hi all, I'm a newbie to this forum, but I do love my Toshiba products!

I recently got a P300 19P and the touch sensitive media buttons at the top (mute, open media player, play/pause, stop, previous, next) buttons DO work, but only when i tap them something like 20 to 30 times repeatedly. Sometimes they work in just 5 or 6 taps, sometimes, it takes more like 50. What is going on here?

I would have thought it was something to do with windows media player having a lot of songs (only about a thousand to be honest), but that wouldn't explain the mute buttong being irresponsive.

(Windows Vista 32 bit home premium)

The LEDs all work fine though.... :-(

Answer:Satellite P300-19P: Media Control buttons need to be pressed many times

hmmm... seems to have resolved itself now.

When I was trying it yesterday, the laptop had been on for a long time and I had raised the back of it up slightly at an angle.

I'm guessing it just needed cooling down a little and put back on a flat surface.

It was always well ventilated though, and I would expect it to still be all entirely functional even if it was getting fairly hot. Not a good thing, but at least there is a forum post now in case anyone else suffers anything similar.

A note to others. Don't automatically assume that your media keys don't work anymore. Try letting the laptop cool off for a few hours, and then try again, (unless of course you have done obvious software changes like changing OS or messing around with drivers).

Before I've installed Microsoft Office 2003 buttons worked fine. But since I've installed it the internet explorer button executes word, and other ones execute excel. Toshiba Controls configuration is correct (predetermined ones).

I've have deinstalled Toshiba Controls application and installed the new one I've download in drivers section. I have desinstalled office and re-installed and I have the same problem.

How could I fix it, please?

Thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A110-180: Control buttons open wrong applications

Try to configure these controls again.
As far as I know it?s possible to assign any applications to this buttons.
Therefore go to the Toshiba control utility and configure the singles buttons with different programs.

Is it possible to assign different programs and only the excel and word?

Check it

I already try to customize using button support but for media button it doesn't work.
As for mute button, i don't know which program to call....

Can anyone help me with this problem?....

Please, i've tried googling it...., my lappy is Toshiba Satellite U405D S2850.

THX in advance

Answer:Control Buttons not working correclty - Satellite U405D-S2850

>I have this multimedia button error; it does not do anything after i press it. But the light did go off and on.
If you get an error then a software issue might be possible.
In such case it?s mostly advisable to reinstall the responsible software part.

It seems that this U405 is a US notebook model and therefore I recommend visiting the US page to get the right tool/driver.

Reinstall it and check if the buttons would work again!

My problem is the following: I have a Toshiba A300-1ND notebook, and I installed a 64bit Windows Vista on it. I installed all drivers from the Toshiba support page, including Value Added Package, which makes the media keys work, I think.

My problem is that I can not set up the button on the left edge to turn illumination on and off (like on the pre-installed Windows), instead of muting and un-muting the computer.
I tried to use the button setup utility from within the Toshiba Assist program, but I couldn't manage to get it work.

I would greatly appreciate if someone could help me!

By the way, I was wondering, why does Toshiba ship a notebook with 4GB of system memory and a 32bit operating system which can only use 3GBs of that memory (because of the 512mb video memory I believe)? This does not seem very logical to me.

Anyway thanks for your help in advance!

Why not?! There are many people who want to install Vista 64bit (like you) and then the full 4GB would be in use.

> My problem is that I can not set up the button on the left edge to turn illumination on and off (like on the pre-installed Windows), instead of muting and un-muting the computer.

As far as I know you can disable and enable the illumination in BIOS and in Toshiba HWSetup which you could fin in the Toshiba Assist.

There should be a program that displays on the screen the volume level when I change volume and another one that allows me to use the play, forward, backward or stop buttons either with Medial player or with JetAudio.

Where can I get such a program??

Answer:Satellite A100-787: Need driver to use Control buttons and volume wheel

Do you use the original preinstalled Toshiba image?
The Toshiba Vista image contains all necessary drivers and utilities and using this OS everything should functions.

If you have installed other OS like XP then the XP drivers are necessary.
If I?m not mistaken the volume level screen notification does not appears using XP.

Furthermore if you want to use the Toshiba control buttons you have to install the right drivers like Controls, common modules, etc?
The right installation order is necessary and important. Therefore I recommend checking the installation instruction on the Toshiba download page!

By the way; the control buttons are preconfigured and I don?t think that it could be possible to use it with another players like i.e Jetaudio.

I am currently facing a problem with my Satellite U400 which runs on Windows Vista / Bios v3.00.
First of all, the Control Buttons do not work anymore, as when I press them nothing happens anymore. It used to be that when pressed, the LED would go off for a moment and then come back to life.

Now, the LEDs are permanently turned on. Even when the laptop is powered off and the cable is removed.

So far I tried to enable and disable the LED option in the Bios (which enabled and disabled the LED on the touch pad and the Satellite logo, but not on the control buttons). I uninstalled and reinstalled the Value Pack from the recovery CD - no change. I deleted and reinstalled the Windows Devices called: ACPI Fixed Feature Button (thought this might help).

Is there anything else I could do?

Once the problem is solved, I wonder whether the control buttons can be customised. For some reason I don't seem to find the appropriate programme to set those.

Thank you for any input.

Someone has suggested this workaround:
You have to install the control utility firstly, and when install the Value Pack, choose advanced, and uncheck TOSHIBA Button Support.

Of course it?s Vista capable. You have installed the Vista on the Satellite A100-979 and it runs.

The Value Added Package contains several tools and I believe the tool you need for media buttons is there. Simply install VAP and I hope it will works.

I have Satellite P-200 PSPB6 model with Vista Home Premium for more than 1 year.
Up to now there was no hardware problems with it.

Though there exist some software problems, the most important of which is that the notebook fails sometimes to wake up from hibernation mode and as the result of this failure. I am to reinstall from time to time the LAN driver.

But a few days ago, after a massive Vista update (about 40 patches at once) all hardware buttons (for internet, media player, etc.) suddenly stopped working.
In fact, the only button I used actively was the button, launching the Internet Explorer, whereas instead of opening the media player and launching some media file from the corresponding menu much more ergonomic is just double clicking on the name of the file in a file manager like Total Commander.

Well, my first idea was that the drivers for these buttons were ruined as the result of this messy update (I succeded to install all of the updates,
except those for Office 2003, only after 5 partially successfull attempts, at the 6th one!).
There were no signs of bad or missing drivers in device manager.

I localized the corresponding devices in device manager as System Devices ---> Direct Application Launch Button.
There are 3 devices with this name in Device manager (though my notebook has 6 buttons). All of them are declared as "working properly", though none of 6 buttons works in fact.

The second idea was to use Toshiba tools.I found th... Read more

In the last two/three days the speeds of the cursor/pointer and control buttons have dropped alarmingly.

Also the tracker icon in the system tray does not always register that the touch pad is being used, and this is normally when the speed drops away.
The pointer moves across the screen alright, but there is a long delay to highlighting the target or getting any response to clicking the buttons when it is.

I suspect a virus of some type, but having run Norton, Hitman Pro and Webroot Spyware I have not found any. Can anyone suggest a possible cause/cure please?

Answer:Satellite A100-487: Speed of cursor & Button control buttons have dropped alarmingly

Did you notice a full CPU usage rate while the speed of the cursor/pointer and control buttons have dropped?
Sometimes my mouse doesn?t response or moves slowly because the CPU runs with 100% and has to execute many background processes.
Of course, a virus or malware could increases the CPU usage rate to a higher level.

I noticed that Norton does not recognize some Viruses or some unsafe files are not known to Norton Antivirus.
Since several months I have been using the freeware AntiVirus program. It?s nice and for free!

But maybe it?s not a virus issue but only something wrong with the system files and/or drivers.
In such case I would recommend reinstalling the common modules, touchpad driver/utility and Toshiba controls.

In worth case you have to reinstall the whole OS from the Toshiba recovery CD!

Check it out

I've got Toshiba Satellite A300-1TM PSAGCE-08X00GPL.
After reinstalation of Windows (Vista 32bit) everything was fine til the moment when I wanted to turn off backlit of the multimedia touch buttons, those just above the keyboard (above F1-F12).

Mute,play/pause, stop and changing tracks buttons in Windows Media Player were working fine, except the second button - turning on WMP (but it was blinking after pressing).

Some time ago I had those buttons configured in a way that the first one (currently mute) has been turning off backlit, second one-has been turning on Winamp.

I've installed Value Added Package and Toshiba Assist. Now, in Toshiba Assist, after chosing 'Toshiba Buttons' I've got only empty fields.
When I chose Browse and from dir: TBS try to chose any function (e.g. Dimmer-to turn off backlit) it appear in sections Description and Path, I can type something in Option, but nothing appears in a last but most important section: Button Name, there is nothing to chose, blind fields on the list.

Of course after pressing Register there is no reaction when I press any button.
Maybe someone has seen something like this?

Answer:Satellite A300-1TM - multimedia buttons issue

As you know many important options are available in advanced BIOS options. To avoid permanent switching into BIOS Toshiba has designed this small tool HWsetup where you can directly in running Windows have access to some BIOS options. Some of these options are accepted immediately and some of them are active after notebook restart.

Multimedia buttons are designed for comfortable notebook usage and just some of these keys can be ?reconfigured? so that you can use them to start your favourite applications.

To be honest I never tried to configure illumination option because either I want it or not so it is not problematic to make three mouse clicks and do it manually in HWsetup tool.

Fact is that after recovery image installation (Vista) everything must work properly. I cannot explain to you why is everything so strange now but what you can try is to remove some Toshiba tools like VAP, Toshiba assist and so on, restart your machine, set the BIOS to default settings and install all stuff again.

I had A300 too but I used it with Win7 32bit and without some ?special settings?.

I have a Toshiba satellite s855-044 and am having issues with the power. I have looked up on countless forums and have been able to find people with similar issues but not the same. Basically the issue is that it will not turn on sometimes and wont show any symptoms of having power. Here is what i know about it:
1. The issue only comes up when i power off the laptop while it is unplugged.
2. None of the power indicators on the front light up, however when you look at it in a pitch black room it is VERY faintly blinking (indicator for when it is plugged in)
3. It turns back on usually after 10 or so hours of messing around with it. (Pulling plug out and putting it back in. Checking connections inside, etc.)
4. I have 2 batteries as well as 2 power adapters (chargers), trying different combinations of them do not seem to make a difference.
5. I have tried the method of unplugging and removing battery and holding the power button for around a minute, no results from that method.

If anybody could help me out it would be greatly appreciated!

1st. the laptop screen works sometimes. meaning the laptop turns on but the screen is off....but other times it turns on fine. now, when the screen doesnt turn on, i found that hitting it makes the screen appear and im not happy about hitting my laptop, im just trying to get it to work.

2nd. when the screen does work, the laptop gets stuck at the motherboard logo screen and does not move from there.....unless..... you hit it.

whats wrong with the dumb thing? anybody help?

oh and like the thing is, it does function, the screen does turn on and the motherboard logo screen does change but u have to really hit it a few times..... other wise it freezes or the screen wont turn on.... ive ran linux off of a live cd on it so i know for a fact im right.

It is time to have the laptop serviced by a qualified technician, or to buy a new laptop. If you are familiar with removing memory or hard drive, you can try reseating them. The video cable from the LCD panel to the motherboard may be pinched or loose

I've been working on a friends A200-AHC308. It had a few viruses and was currently running XP, so I decided to reformat to XP-SP3. Prior to the reformat I attempted to back up all of his files to a USB flash drive, although the computer had problems recognizing the USB. I figured that the problem may have had something to do with a faulty driver installation so ignored it and continued with the format, having backed up his files on a DVD. After the reformat I am still having the same issue. All drivers are installed properly and nothing in Device Manager is popping up with a question mark. What happens is this: I plug the media in (whether it be an external HDD or a flashdrive) and the computer goes through its device wizard. It does one of two things:
Says the device was installed successfully although when attempting to access it through My Computer the drive does not load (it is present, although when attempting to open it I have no luck).
Says the device is not compatible.

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A200 USB Issue

If you have a second USB flash drive available, plug it into the Toshiba and see if you can read from/write to it.

If you can, it's likely the drive you backed the data up on is either going bad or was corrupted by the virus(es). If this is the case, any attempt at recovering the data should be done with extreme caution. If inserted into and accessed from another PC there is a good chance it will infect it. Go to the virus and malware section of the board for specific scanning and cleaning tips for the drive before you attempt to open or transfer any data from it.

If the second (clean) USB drive doesn't work, reboot the PC with the USB drive removed and try again. If it still fails, go to and download the Beta version of Microsoft's Fix-It Tool. XP SP3 had a few bugs; this tool fixes many of them.

Hope this helps.

I have a toshiba Satellite L855-10P and my webcam was working fine until today when, during a skype video conference, it started showing black lines a bit like static and the quality decreased significantly. I used the webcam application to check if it wasn't an internet issue and the same problem occurred.

I restarted the computer and removed the protective plastic from the webcam and nothing changed. It's a brand new laptop, it's only 2 months old. Is there anything I can do to find out the nature of this problem or should I just go ahead and use the warranty?

**Edit: I changed the quality to 1280*700 and the image had great quality but when I changed it to anything lower than that quality the static came back.

I bought this new, obviously some years ago.
XP Home and all original hardware.
Gave it to my sister about 4 years ago to run to run scientific apps that won't run on anything newer than XP.
In her possession, It was not used on a network---no internet at all.

It's screen went blank but the lights on the front of the case showed it loading/booting up.
So I attached it to an old CRT monitor. As the computer booted the screen filled with a few hundred colored vertical lines but finalized with the regular background, but no icons or start menu. Right clicking on it did nothing.

So I booted to an Acronis Boot disk and installed a known drive image I made 4 years ago that I knew was good. Same issue.

I then installed the factory image from my Toshiba Install disk and, with the CRT attached, it boots up normally with no apparent issues.

I still need to check the wiring connections of the laptop monitor but at least it's still useful with the external monitor.

I'd like to hand this back to my sister with confidence as she uses it at home to do scientific data analysis for her employer.
Any thoughts on what this issue might be, have been?
SysInfo to follow.

The mouse, out of nowhere, starts to go to the right or to the left and there is nothing to do to remove it from the place. Sometimes it stops and others doesn't. This problem prevents us from working. It has nothing to do with the mouse (we tried several) or with docking station because it happens without the docking station.

So, the problem started when my dad told me various recharge lights would not come one. Low and behold after opening it up I noticed the Power Pin within the DC housing was not there, in fact it dropped directly into my hand while I was opening it... So after a great deal of experimentation in trying to fix it... I have given up, if I jiggle it for a little while the lights will come on for a second... Please look at diagram for what I believe is accurate~

The connector just behind the housing... is that a ground? my limited knowledge on, on-board circuitry prevents me from repairing this myself.

if you can visually seek the break, then you know where it should connect in order to repair it. You need not know the polarity. But I don't recommend repairing this yourself unless you are good with a soldering iron. Take it to a shop.

Opened my daughter's laptop this morning and it seems like the LCD has "dissolved" in the left bottom of the screen. There's no identation on the screen or any sign of damage. The liquid crystal just seemed "smeared" or something in the corner. Any thoughts? I'm not a technie so sorry if I don't know all the terminology... I purchased this for her for Christmas at Office Depot so it's only a few months old. Please help! Thanks mucho!

Answer:Issue with Toshiba Satellite Screen

The LCD screen could have been damaged by placing a heavy object on the top of the closed laptop or by bumping or dropping. It doesn't take much... The LCD panel might be under warranty. Its worth checking into. Otherwise, it is expensive to replace. They cannot be repaired

With my new network now up and running, and all devices talking to each other as they should, I probed about in the (VM supplied) Netgear Superhubs settings and discovered I can change the frequency from 2.4 to 5gz which gets me away from local interference.
My iMac, Ipad iPhone and ATV work perfectly with the setting at 5, but laptop flatly refuses to even see the network. I have a new Draytek wireless router being delivered this week and would like to use the higher setting for all devices without having to go into the admin screen and change back to 2.4 when using the lappy.
Anyone had this issue, or suggest a workaround?

Should have added....Laptop runs Windows 7 64 bit, and the network card is the Atheros with the latest drivers installed.

Hello everyone. Nowadays, I see on this forum people are discussing about the CD/DVD issues on L30/L300/L350. I would like to share my experience on this issue and hope everyone shares your experience as well.

My laptop are Toshiba L30 PSL33 and Toshiba L300 PSLB2E. I am lucky that I have no problem with CD/DVD discs/drives as I can read/write/play CD/DVD smoothly. However, I used to have some problems with CD/DVD drive on my notebook. Here is my experience.

1) Make sure there is no other CD/DVD softwares on your computer (except the orginal software from Toshiba). Especially to those who have been used to using Nero. If you have problems, try to remove Nero and test with the one supported by Windows

2) If you still have problems, try to update the firmware of the DVD drive. It can be done by visiting the Toshiba Support Driver site ( Check what drive you have by looking at the Device Manager. Download the newest firmware from there and update your drive.

3) My last solution. If you have Vista pre-installed, try to get a XP version on your computer and do not install any other software. Test/copy a CD by using windows writing tool to see whether the problem is solved or not.

In my opinion. the main reasons you may encournter are: there are CD/DVD drives have XP firmware base and need to be updated so that they can be used in Vista; or there are software like Nero and PowerDVD are causing the conflict between the ACPI con... Read more

My house-mate recently bought a Toshiba Satellite A60 laptop machine. It appears to have a bit of an issue booting correctly.
On 60-75% of boot attempts the result is an error meesage indicating the driver for the onboard ATI display adapater could not start correctly and that the system will restart. On this second reboot the system invariably starts normally.
Any ideas on what could be the issue? Does this machine require a BIOS update?.. or perhaps it is an issue brought on by the patching of the preinstalled XP home with service pack2.

Any ideas gratefully recieved

Hi All,

I have the above laptop, downloaded Windows 10 - then uninstalled it as it made my machine mega slow.

The + and - buttons to alter the volume no no longer work on the laptop unless you press the FN key.

I went into the control panel to change that, did as I was instructed but I still have to press it to get any volume. I rang Toshiba helpdesk and they couldn't solve the issue either.

Also, the volume has to be turned up to at least 50 to get any sound out as you cannot hear it otherwise. Someone said to do something to the BIOS but i have no idea as I am not tech at all.

Any help would be great as I have tried You Tube and online and not had any luck.

Thanks all.

Answer:Volume issue on Toshiba Satellite pro laptop

This could be it:

I set it so that I can press F1 to F12 without holding the Fn key. When I did that then I had to press Fn key to adjust volume with the - + keys that are on the F9 and F10 keys.

Also you may want to open the volume mixer to see if other volume levels are less that the master volume.

Hey I need some help with a Toshiba Satellite C75D-B7230 that I can't seem to get to power up. I thought it was the power switch but that doesn't seem to be the case as I just replaced it and the computer still won't power on. Any ideas what else could be wrong and is it worth fixing?

Power Supply tested with a multimeter to make sure it works is a start. If the power supply is bad then the laptop wont work without it unless the battery has a charge. How did you replace the power switch on a laptop?

can someone please help me out, my touch pad was working fine last week, however when logging back into my machine the device would not work. I have located the device under hidden devices in device manager.

I have attempted to reinstall the drivers but keep getting the error message of the device may not be available, or some drivers may be missing. Any help that can be provided with this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Ok, I am fully aware of the black screen of death issue, which I have along with everyone else who didn't pay attention when buying this comp, but this morning I tried to turn it on and I get a blinking battery light, but nothing else. I took out the battery and tired with just the AC Adapter plugged in, no blinking light, nothing. With the adapter unplugged and the battery in, I still get the blinking light. So I figured it had to be the adapter. I went out and bought a new adapter, but no dice. Anyone else have this problem? Know any possible way to fix this or what's causing it?

Answer:Toshiba Satellite A215 power issue

Bad motherboard... Or broken DC jack. You could try removing the hard drive and see if the notebook posts

Answer:Satellite X200-15k & Toshiba DVD Players issue

I have read about the same issue somewhere in this forum. I didn?t find the thread but I can remember that the Toshiba HD DVD player placed on the Toshiba driver page is only the patch (update).

So you will need the original Toshiba HD DVD which was preinstalled on the system to run the update.
I presume Toshiba don?t want to public the full version due to the copyrights policy.

The switching to the other external device works only if the HD DVD player was disabled. But the playing on both devices is not always possible due to the copy function.

Hope I could clarify this question. ;)

Best regards
