Satellite C70D-C-12U Windows Update & Wireless Question

Question: Satellite C70D-C-12U Windows Update & Wireless Question

Hi there,

I was bought the above model of laptop for an early Christmas present which usually sits down in the living room, my old Satellite Pro sat down there with no issues however with this device the wireless signal is very low and I appear to be having it sitting right next to the wireless router (which is located upstairs in my sons bedroom), I wondered if there's any steps I could take to improve the signal?

It baffles me how a new system has such a poor wireless signal when my old Satellite Pro which was 6 years old had no wireless issues whatsoever.

My other issue is from the moment I switched the laptop on (yesterday when it was delivered) the updates on Windows Update are slow or don't start at all, is this an issue or just normal?

I'd appreciate any help or input at all, thank you.

Preferred Solution: Satellite C70D-C-12U Windows Update & Wireless Question

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

It then starts deleting the installation-files, and exits......
Anyone any idea how to solve this, and make the upgrade work ???

Good evening,

I'm sorry to disturb,
but I find myself in a situation to which I find no solution,
that's why I come here asking for some help.

A friend has just purchased the following laptop:
- Satellite C70D-B-307

but the worry is that apparently it is impossible to have access to the HDD recovery to execute the factory restoration.
I try all possible solutions that I find on the web and none of it works.

what to do ?

does Toshiba sell the recovery DVDs that will restore the computer to its factory state?

Thank you very much .

Hello everybody,
the Toshiba Sat C70D-B-317 (PSCLEE01L009FR) is on it's way and I don't have it for the moment but I would like to know if there is a way to add some Ram to this machine without opening everything?
Also, is it possible to change the HD in the future in the same conditions?

sorry, but it's my first PC laptop and as a Mac user I'm completely lost with all these models and different serial numbers.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-317 - Ram upgrade

1. yes you can upgrade your RAM, This laptop has 2 slots with one 4GB standard so if you would you can put one more 4GB. With 2x4 you have Dual-channel and that works much faster than single

I don't know if your HDD can e upgraded. When it's not possible you can always buy a external HDD

I hope i helped you

I have a C70D-A-107 and want to speed up this notebook. Already placed 4gb extra memory so the notebook has now 8gb internal. I doubt whether it is usefull to put in 2x8gb. I think the processor is just to slow. It has a AMD E1-2100 inside. Is it possible to put in another (faster) processor?

Answer:Speed-up Satellite C70D-A-107

The Satellite C70D-A-107 was equipped with an AMD Essentials E1-2100 Accelerated CPU (1,00 GHz, 1 MB L2 Cache)
It’s not the fastest CPU therefore the notebook performance isn’t the best…

But CPU upgrade isn’t officially supported by notebook manufacturer... therefore I don’t think that you will be able to upgrade the CPU…

I read about successful Intel CPU upgrades but did not meet anyone who was able to perform an upgrade with an AMD CPU

I'm looking for a new display for my Toshiba Satellite C70D-A-11K!

Answer:Need new display for my Satellite C70D-A

The Satellite C70D-A-11K was equipped with the 17.3" LED color LCD panel with the supporting max resolution of 1600 x 900 px
You should be able to order such display panel from local Toshiba authorized service provider or you could check some 3rd part online dealers who provide compatible notebook parts…

As I mention above: you should look for the 17.3" panels.

My wive purchase this computer coupple of months ago. It was from the beginning ferry slow on windows 8
The wurst laptop we ever had. We feel robbed of our money.

2 months ago we started with Ubuntu. It Still slow. IS there anybody with the same problems?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-108 is very slow

Hi Marco

I don't have this notebook model and cannot confirm what you wrote but fact is that almost all new notebooks are pretty slow at the beginning. Many applications are set to start with Windows and this, of course, slows down boot time.
Windows updates are also set to automatic so in the background the machine will download and install many updates so this will slow down your machine rapidly.

In my opinion you should install original OS that you got with this machine and optimize it a bit.
Remove all useless stuff, change start-up option and disable automatic Windows updates.
In the past I have noticed that original preinstalled antivirus is also responsible for notebook?s performance so I don't use original preinstalled application but my own version of Avir Antivir and it runs perfectly.

Check all these options and I hope your machine will run much better than before.

Just bought a Satellite C70D with Win 8.1. Everything works (as far as I know until know), except boot from DVD. I disabled in the bios the Secure Boot and changed the boot order to DVD first, then USB and then HDD. The DVD drive starts, but then it skips to the HDD and Windows is started. First time I tried there was a message like "DVD boot not supported" or something like that.
The DVD is bootable, so that is not the problem.
I would like to install Linux Mint alongside Windows.
Anyone solved this problem already?

Answer:Satellite C70D - How to boot from DVD

Update: changing from UEFI to CMS in the BIOS Advanced tab makes it possible to boot from DVD, but Windows won't boot anymore.... Is there any possibility to boot from DVDE and still be able to start Windows as well?

I picked up a brand new c70d-b-10u today from a well known retailer.
I turned it on, set the language, gave a computer name, hooked up to a wi fi and then it asked for Other User Password!

I never entered a password to start with so why is it asking for one?

I cannot get to the shop again until next week and urgently need to get up and running.

Any ideas greatly received.

Answer:Brand new Satellite C70D-B-10U wants a password?

Try to recover the notebook once again using the HDD recovery option.

The recovery procedure would reset the notebook back to factory settings… usually after that no passwords should be set…

So I bought this laptop a few months ago.
For the past few weeks the Laptop stopped playing sound.
I watched a stream in Chrome.

So actually I should be able to see the sound playing in the mixer.
But I wasn't able to play any sound or get any deflection in the mixer.

Then I installed Speccy and as this administration window popped up a sound was played and it worked.

I have no idea why the sound stopped working and why it started again.
Is someone able to help me?

I am using Windows 8.1

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D - no sound, random

The main thing is that you have sound again. It is not easy to say what was wrong there.
Have you installed some updates or anything else that can be responsible for this sound issue?

Hi all,

My grandmother recently bought this Toshiba, mostly i recommend people a Toshiba but this is going to far.

I wasn't aware that she bought a laptop untill she called me and said she needs help because she never worked with such a slow computer as this Toshiba.

So my question is

How much logic does Toshiba has? I mean putting 6GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM ( ok nice for a casual laptop ) doesn't quite fit with a >>1GHz<< processor. for the rest the specs aren't terrible.

Can somebody explain me why this laptop has a 1GHz processor with 6GB of RAM. this doensn't makes sence at all

I've a angry grandmother xD with a crappy laptop so I builded quick a pc for her where so does her work on for now

Hi There,

I have had a Satellite C70D for about 18 months now, but have not used it in the past year as I have been disputing with customer services about the windows licence for the machine as I lost it when I formatted the original hard drive before installing an SSD and they wouldnt send me a copy of it. I have now bitten the bullet and bought a windows 10 licence again. However since building the machine a few days ago, I have been having a couple of issues and as it is now out of warranty, I cannot contact customer support (Who I found unhelpful even when it was in warranty!)

The first issue is when I boot up the machine, occasionally the keyboard will not work, I cannot type the BitLocker pin and I have to remove the battery and press and hold the power button for 10 seconds, this then fixes the issue for a few reboots before it goes again.

The second is that occasionally it will boot up with a red x next to the WiFi symbol, but it detects the WiFi card, usually a reboot fixes this but not always. I have reseated the card and still no avail.

Can anyone shed any light on what may be causing this? The BIOS is up-to-date as are all of the drivers.

Thanks in advance for your help

After a regular shutdown I cannot boot the system anymore.
System starts but does not boot.

Referring to the manual (section 6, solutions of problems) I tried to hit [F12] after power on but nothing happened.
Same when hitting [F2].

My impression is that something failed on hard disk drive.

P.S. system has Win10 installed.

My question is in the subject line. If anyone has done this I would appreciate some tips.

regards Stuart

Answer:Can I replace the HDD in my Satellite C70D-B -00P model with an SSD?

Generally speaking yes, you can do this but problem is that your notebook model doesn't have HDD cover at the bottom side.
To have full access to the HDD the bottom cover must be removed completely but it should be done by authorized service only.

Of course you can try to do it alone but I?m afraid you may lose the warranty.
If possible contact nearest Toshiba service provider in your country, explain the situation and ask for help.

I have 2 issues with my new Satellite C70D-B-32U.
When I put it in sleep mode, it does. But after about 5 minutes, it goes automatically to hibernate. This I don't want. And I don't want to disable hibernate, because I do use it when the laptop is not in use for longer periods. The power settings in control panel do not reflect this behaviour. In the settings, I specified that the laptop should never go to hibernate. Hybrid state is disabled.

And secondly, more importantly. Whenever it goes to hibernate, I can only wake it up with the power button. Not with the (internal) keyboard, not with the usb mouse. I would like an option to wake it from hibernate by pressing any key on the keyboard. In bios power on keyboard is set to on. Is there anything else I can change to have this available?
Actually if issue 1 is solved and the laptop stays in sleep mode, this issue is also solved since from sleep I can wake on a mouseclick which is also fine.

The OS is windows 8.1

I have a Satellite C70D-A-114...

i hardly used it because it was slow

so i wanted to sell it

first i wanted to set it back to factory settings

doing that, in that process i seem to have deleted all files

so now i get message no bootable disc etc.

Tried everything, there is simply no recovery file

So where can i find such a file for free? It's just not normal that it is not on the site.

Answer:Need recovery files for my Satellite C70D-A-114

All you can find for free are all drivers, tools and utilities. Original recovery image (software package) is not for free and if you need it you must order recovery disc directly by Toshiba.

You can order it on

By the way: in user’s manuals document is clearly described how you can create recovery installation disc. I’m wondering you didn’t make it in the past.

Hi All,

I have an Satellite C70D-A-11D ... when I use once the FN Key to do a Print Screen or use the Screen-Zoom on the Space Key...

I am not able to use the Keynumbers 1 to 4 neither the space Key to enter a space between two always change between the bigger screen solution or the normal solution...

I only can change the FN Key again after change the settings in Display settings and after a reboot...
So I cant use FN without a reset with the F1 to F12 Key use and a reboot...

Normaly the FN Key works only if it is pressed...if not the normal Function of the Keys 1 to 4 or F1 to F12 will work if configured in the settings, or not?

What to do?

Kind regards

Answer:Satellite C70D-A-11D Function Key deactivate after use

First of all you can change between the special function key mode (without pressing FN key) or normal (standard) mode (Hold Fn first to use standard F1-F12 functions.)

This function can be changed in BIOS.
In BIOS go to Advanced -> System configuration

Check this option.

I think your notebook has only small stereo speakers and the sound is not the best. I have Satellite S50-B with Harman/kardon speakers and sound is really good.

You can try to change sound options but if you want to have better sound I’m afraid you need external speakers, Maybe BT speakers.

I have buy a Satellite C70D-A-11T and pass it on Windows 7 64 bits Home Premium.
I install all the drivers and I haven't any problems.

When I want to connect it to my TV for first time, I discover there is no sound on the TV.
I try to go on the speaker (near the clock of windows), right click, sound, first tab (I think it is "Playback" in english... I have a french Windows) and my device (TV) doesn't appear.

I come back on Toshiba Support website to download the last driver "HDMI Audio driver" for my laptop, I connect the cable, and it appear in the sound properties. I select it as my default device and the sound come right from my TV.

Great !

But when I restart my laptop (with or without the HDMI cable), the TV disappear from the list in the sound properties, the only one solution to recover the sound is to reinstall the HDMI Audio Driver.
If I start the driver installation with the "advanced" option, I have the list of drivers to install and I see all drivers are already installed, but the HDMI Audio Driver will be upgraded... I install it and it work until the next restart.

Could you explain me why the version of the driver don't stay on the system, and how to make it work without reinstall it everyday ?

Answer:Satellite C70D-A: game lags due to graphic chip?

Well, I?m wondering why you purchased a unit with an internal (part of CPU) graphic chip if you want use the notebook for gaming?

The notebook supports the AMD Radeon HD 8400 graphics which is part of AMD Quad-Core A6-5200 CPU.
Such GPU is similar to Intel HD GPU which is also part of Intel CPUs.

Such internal graphic cards are not really designed for gaming? of course you would be able to run and to play a game but don?t expect too much?

As mentioned, i allready downloaded all drivers for this laptop and installed them, windows is ofcourse up-to-date. Also I let windows search for drivers on the Internet and on the whole drive, but no drivers where found.

Who can give me the golden tip?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-306 - 2 unknown devices in device list

There is a good method in order to find out what drivers are missing.
First of all you should check the DEV (device) and VEN (vendor) IDs

Here is an short instruction how to find this details:

Knowing the device and vendor ID, it should not be a big deal to get the right drivers.

At the other hand you should install also additional Toshiba software (Toshiba System Driver) released for Win 8.1
Please note also that there are two Win 8.1 driver areas: ?Win 8.1 update? and ?Win 8.1 32bit/64bit? categories
In case you would not find all drivers within the Win 8.1 update check also the Win 8.1 32bit/64bit categories.

Hi all,

excuse the new thread but I haven't found any answers anywhere online, just speculation and it's for different models.

So I have a C70D-B-10U, running windows 7 64bit pro. When I formatted it and updated everything, it just kept crashing when trying to play back videos on Windows Media Player. I cleaned the inside and replaced thermal paste, updated to even newer drivers, and started using VLC as my default media player. It rarely crashed BUT it always does when I try to start playing games (nothing heavy - League of Legends). Laptop seems to be doing well with memory tests, no faults detected.

I've read that this could be caused by:
Faulty GPUFaulty BatteryFaulty PSUBad Capacitors on the MOBO

Has anyone had any similar experience? I've reinstalled Windows and it's the same story. If it's a motherboard issue, I guess it would be better to just get a new one?

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-10U no warning crash (power, GPU or capacitors)

Update: I decided to test the RAM and it seems like it can't handle 8GB. Both 4GB sticks work on any slot, but when I have all of it on the machine it crashes. Do you think it is a motherboard issue?

Hi there

Pretty much every time I turn on my laptop I am being asked to enter in the date, it defaults to 1.1.2015. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can overcome this issue? Just to be clear this happens right at the point of turning the computer, i.e. before Windows even starts to load up. It must be date/time settings of the device.

Thanks for your help in advance

ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E (05.2014) won?t to read DVDs anymore. It doesn't matter which one I try it simply doesn't work.
Latest driver is installed.

Answer:ODD on my Satellite C70D-A-11E wont read DVDs anymore

If optical disc drive is installed properly maybe is reading lens dirty. Try to clean it up.

Other way, if your ODD can read CDs but not DVDs it can also be hardware malfunction. The reading lens cannot be calibrated properly and cannot find the right position to read DVD media.

In such case ODD must be exchanged.

Try to clean lens up and check if the problem persists. If yes contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

Would be grateful for any advice to remove the back panel.

I've removed battery, ~16 screws + 1 tiny screw at the optical drive and whilst it does 'unclick' everywhere else, there seems to be something stopping the panel being removed just above the battery compartment and don't want to force it.

Even our IT guys at work cannot work it out.

PLEASE new laptop is very slow so have purchased RAM but can't access the back.

Answer:Satellite C70D-B-30D: How to access back panel after ~16 screws removed

At first I must say that you should not remove bottom cover alone because it will cancel valid warranty. If there is no RAM cover, RAM should be exchanged or upgraded by authorized personal only.

I know every of us think it is easy to do and want to do this alone.
What I know is follow:
2 screws in the middle are fixing the keyboard. What must be removed are 14 screws and small flat screw at the optical drive. That’s all. There is no other hidden screw.

Of course there are also small plastic holders and bottom cover must be removed very gently.

After a restart the same problem comes again a few minutes later.

I thank you in advance for your answer.

I have the Toshiba A350-13A for Poland.
It came with Vista 32 bit system. I would like to install there Windows 7 64 bit.

So I have a question for BIOS update.
In my toshiba model driver section for WIN7 there is only a 32 bit BIOS for OS independent, but in the Vista section there is a 64 bit BIOS.
So shall I stay with the 32 bit BIOS or update to Vista 64 bit BIOS?

best regards.

Answer:Windows 7 - BIOS update question - Satellite A350-13A

Do you have any performance or notebook issues using the 32bit BIOS?

If everything is working properly then leave the 32bit BIOS on your notebook.

I would recommend updating the BIOS only if some serious problems would appear?

I've only noticed today that when I turn up my laptop's volume up to about 28 (even with headphones in), there's this high pitch noise that comes from the speakers. And I'm sure it's the speakers and not anything else.
But the sound is sort of that real ear-killing noise so I can't listen to it for long. It even sometimes sounds like thousands of crickets - a complete nightmare

But with my volume at any level below 28 I can listen to whatever through headphones without the sound bothering me.

Does anyone have any ideas for a solution? I do know a thing or two about computers but nothing about anything extremely technical and I'm not sure if I want to take it apart, unless I really have to.

If you could help me it would be appreciated!

I have a Satellite Pro A200GE-26. It has T7200 core 2 duo, running the vista 32 that came with the computer (now sp1).

Windows update offers me the following optional update: "TOSHIBA - Other hardware - TOSHIBA x64 ACPI-Compliant Value Added Logical and General Purpose Device" but I'm worried because at present under the device manager the computer is listed as "ACPI x86 based pc".

Does anyone know why windows update is offering this to me and whether i should install it?

Thanks for any help!

Answer:Satellite Pro A200GE-26Q: Question about Windows update "TOSHIBA x64 ACPI Compliant Value Added Logical"

This update is offered for all Core2Duo units.
As you already wrote it is optional and you must not install it. If you use original Toshiba recovery image you do not need it for notebook functionality. Do you use recovery image or you have installed your own OS?

Hi All, first post!

I have just recieved notification that their is a BIOS update for my laptop, Satellite P30-145, I downloaded it and tried to install but i get this message "the size of the rom file is incorrect" any ideas?

Answer:Question about BIOS update for Satellite P30-145

Seems Toshiba has published and technical support bulletin document about this issue.
I found this useful Toshiba instruction:

I cannot update my BIOS with the Windows based Phoenix BIOS ZIP-file under Windows XP.
I always receive following error message: The size of ROM file is incorrect.

I hope it helps.

But note; The BIOS update is always risky!!! If you have no problems with your notebook you don?t need to update the BIOS.
The wrong BIOS or wrong BIOS update procedure can damage the notebooks board!
So take my advice and never change a running system ;)

So, my Notebook is not starting, but recovery-procedure is working. Support suggested me to update my Bios.
Ok, since it was easy the last time.

I downloaded the newsest version vor My Satellite M40 (PSM40) (1.70-WIN <= I have an ATI grafics card) and extracted the file.
But then there was a surprise:
Instead of getting the old data structure as written in the Bios update FAQ
1. Extract the zip file containing the BIOS upgrade to a temporary folder.
2. In the temporary folder three sub folders will be generated. "docs", "Update - 3,5' Disk", "Update - CD-R or CD-RW"

I get one file only: Windows BIOS Knockhill10GV170.exe
Extracting this one I get 8 files:
- fdbase.img
- InsydeFlash.exe
- iscflash.dll
- iscflash.vxd
- KPM170.ROM
- Platform.ini

Now my question: How can I create from this a bootable CD-ROM to update my Bios?

Just to know: Downloading an all other things are done on my Desktop-PC since my Notebook isnt booting ;)
I also tried to execute the exe in the hope that it will create either a floppy-disk or CD-ROM, but it says "cfg base address not found"

Answer:Question about BIOS update for my Satellite M40

For BIOS update there are two different ways to do this:
-Traditional way (TRAD) and in this case you need floppy disc
-Windows (WIN) and this update can be done under running operating system.

WIN BIOS update will work if you can run WXP on your Satellite notebook. If I am understand your posting well you try to make Traditional BIOS update but using WIN BIOS update. On Toshiba download page there are two BIOS updates listed and both of them as WIN versions. That means you can update BIOS under running operating system only.

Back to your problem: in the whole story one thing confuses me when you write: my Notebook is not starting, but recovery-procedure is working. Sorry but if the recovery procedure is working do it and you will have clean installed OS.

Please be a little bit more specific about ?notebook is not starting?. What happen exactly when you press power button?

Maybe you don?t need the BIOS update but a compatible and supported CD/DVD drive??? ;)

Not all slimline CD/DVD drives are compatible with notebook due to different master/slave/c-sel settings.

I will try to be very short with answers:
1. If you use WXP on your notebook make BIOS update with version 5.30
2. This BIOS version is offered for days and it is possible that many people already tried it. By the way: before Toshiba release something it is tested and checked.
3. Unfortunately there is documentation about bugs and fixes but the fact is that Toshiba has designed version 5.30 to support WXP functionality on Vista designed notebook models

Yes, this is the right BIOS because it?s also for your model (Satellite 2450-101).

A BIOS update is for a RAM upgrade not necessary. The BIOS has nothing to do with the maximum RAM capacity.
The Satellite 2450-101 supports up to 1GB, type PC2100 DDR-RAM.

I receive a notice that my wireless lan driver needs to be updated. I follow the instructions and find out which device my laptop has (Realtek: RTL8188CE) and download the appropriate software/driver. It appears as a zip file in my downloads folder; I unzip it, and then what?

Reading the Dutch instructions (while I prefer English on the notice saying to download and update the driver) it says to look for a readme file (they are all very old, from 2010, none in 2011). They don't really say anything about what to do. In Dutch it also says to click on SETUP. I find one that is marked as an application, so I double click that.

It runs, then on the screen it says something like: "The software may or may not have installed correctly." So, I click on it to install again. Same thing.

I have had no idea if it installed correctly or not, so I clicked on Control Panel/System/Network Devices (?)/Realtek...... and Right Click to see which version of the Device Driver is there, and it has not changed.

So, what do I do to get this new driver to work correctly?

I have tried this several times and it does not work right. It's getting very frustrating, and there seems to be no way to contact Toshiba support, other than through this forum (which is users rather than Toshiba support, I think).

Please help.

Answer:Satellite C660-15 can't install wireless lan update

Try to install driver using ?old school? method.

Enter WLAN card properties (device manager) > driver >Update driver and browse into folder ?RTL_Driver?. Choose 7x64 or 7x78 folder, depending on OS version you use.

I think it will install the driver.

By the way: if your WLAN works properly you must not install this driver.

I have a Satellite A100-599 with a NVIDIA 7600go graphic card and I have Bioshock like most of you the game crashes because of some problems with the graphic card drivers, no the meantime NVIDIA released some new patches to the Forceware and after I rechecked the Toshiba driver support database I saw a new release in the Display driver list for WinXp.

One of them seems to be from 13/09/2007. I downloaded the drivers, installed them and after I checked the driver details in the Device manager list and to my surprise the details said the drivers are from 2006. I reinstalled the drivers and the same thing appeared. I checked the XML that was in the drivers archive and surprise ...the drivers are really the old ones from 2006. So my question is this: Do you have any Display Drivers for my model that work for Bioshock :D

Answer:Satellite A100-599 - question about display driver update

I don?t know if WE have. I think it would be took some long time to ask every single user: hey, do you have some drivers for blackmodjo? Ah, come on, please. Just a little bit of them... ;)

No, I have a better idea. It?s like cooking a meal. The ingredients: DriverCleaner Pro and the website and .... ta ta ta TAAAA a lot of patience

To get some good "bio"shocked meal just follow this receipt:

Go to
read before you do anything (YES, even before you continue BREATHING) the FAQ-section on that site (RECOMMENDEDRECOMMENDEDRECOMMENDED)
and then download the drivers. Do it, yes...

Then download drivercleaner by searching for it on and THEN, read their Manual before doing anything else (Ok, you can continue breathing..)
After reading their manual you will something like:

1. Starting program, doing something, restarting machine
2. starting in safe mode, starting that program, removing..yadayadayada
3. Installing new driver
3. Playing Bioshock
4... Thanking me and giving me your first born.. ;)

So, by cutting away around 40% of my humoristic stuff and following the constructive technical instructions from me you will be able to play bioshock.

Greets :)

I got an email off Toshiba today telling me there is a value added package update available (TVAP (v1.0.25).
I downloaded it, and unzipped. It contains three options:
2 button, 6 button, no button yet there is no readme etc to tell me what version my P100-160 is.

I addition, attempting to install any of them gives me an error that there are older versions already installed which should be removed first.

Can someone please advise of which I should be using?

Answer:Question about Value Added Package update for Satellite P100-160

I got the same message, downloaded the file, guessed that my P100-160 was 2 button and got the same response. I looked at the Control Panel to see that the Toshiba VAP was indeed already installed, in my case dated 30/12/06 BUT with zero size shown against it. I tried to uninstall which started and then the wizard stopped saying interrupted (by whom??).

So I'm puzzled like you. I think I need this update because power options are not working properly but seem unable to install it. I've been advised to reformat the disc and start again but this would just give me the original image and presumably same uninstall problems.

Do the sad tales i've been hearing about laptop manufacturers never updating gfx card drivers apply to toshiba?

Any info on whether an update for their SLi systems' display drivers is on the horizon?

cheers -

Answer:Satellite X200-219: Question about display driver update?

The fact is that display driver cannot be updated every few days like for desktops. The priority by notebook manufacturers is to care about hardware functionality. Using new drivers the graphic card will be forced to run faster and better offering better graphic performance. The result is mostly overheating and can end with defective graphic card.

In this case the whole mainboard must be exchanged and it costs a lot of money. So, I think nobody can say for sure when the next driver will be available.

Answer:Satellite L50-C - Unable to update Realtek Wireless LAN Driver

This could be program interference, first go into your firmware settings in your BIOS, go to security and turn off secure boot. This can sometimes prevents programs from updating. Then perform a clean boot, follow these directions to do a clean boot
Then turn off your antivirus and firewall completely and perform the update again.

I just upgraded my Satellite U940 PSU6VA-00S002 from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1, and am currently following the upgrade instructions from here . I notice that both the European and Australian Toshiba websites include a "Realtek Wireless LAN Driver" in their list of driver downloads for Windows 8.1 for the Satellite U940:
- European page
- []

However, I have never noticed a Realtek wireless LAN driver on my computer, even before I upgraded to Windows 8.1. I have only ever seen the following Network Adapters in Device Manager:
- Intel(R) Centrino(R) Wireless-N 2200
- Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller (which I believe is a wired LAN driver, not a wireless LAN driver).

So, my question is: should I download the Realtek wireless LAN driver, or is it not appropriate for my system?

Answer:Satellite U940 - Realtek Wireless LAN Driver update

As far as I know first instructions are for EU models so in my opinion you should use drivers and instructions from
At the bottom is list what should be uninstalled with exact explanation. If your notebook has Intel WLAN card I think you must not install Realtek card. After Win8.1 check WLAN card status in device manager. Is WLAN card installed properly (Win8.1 inbox version)?

Answer:Question about 2 years warranty extension update to Satellite A200-1MY

This is right. When you will register the notebook on the Toshiba driver page then the warranty will extend to 2 years.
Maybe you have to wait simply one day till the data was updated.

If the warranty will still show the same state try to update if again!

According notebook specification your notebook doesn't have Blu Ray optical disc drive. It has DVD Super Multi drive (Double Layer). You can ignore this message.

Dear All,

I was happy owner of Satellite P100-437 for already 4 months, but last week i start to have big trouble with my laptop. First, next day after i bought the laptop with Vista, i downgrade my laptop to Windows XP SP2 and everything was fine. I had everything working and i enjoyed my laptop a lot. Last week i checked Toshiba web site for new drivers and i downloaded the new bios update 4.00-WIN and i apply it.

After that started the headache. I suddenly lost my sound, but in device manager the sound card is working fine. Besides, the small light in the wireless switch is disappeared and then the wireless device, also stating in the device manager that is working fine.

I backed up all my data, and reinstall win xp, clean, and i installed the sound drivers and nothing changed, the sound is still missing. Same story with the wireless. Yesterday, i witnessed something else, i attached one external hard drive, which is using usb connection and need also usb power, and suddenly the sound and the wireless come back for while, but interrupting and finally disappeared again.

So, now I wonder what to do and any help on this matter will be appreciated. I work on cruise ships and my laptop there is priceless.

Answer:Satellite P100: After BIOS update 4.00-WIN can not use sound card & wireless

Hello Deniz

I told everyone every time: Please do not do anything while OS runs well!!!

Please remember this. The problem is that your notebook is delivered with Vista OS and BIOS is also designed for Vista. You were very lucky to run WXP successfully and now you updated the Vista designed BIOS again. I am really not wondering you have problems now.

What to do in this situation? It is very good questions. Try to reinstall drivers for sound and WLAN. Maybe it will help. Maybe clean WXP installation. I can not say for sure. I have A200 (also Vista preinstalled) and I believe at the moment I have no interest to update anything. Not yet.

Bye and good luck!

the S stands for Satellite, so you already have the right software, there should be no problems.

After installing the 3G modem & Wireless manager updates of September 29th, my laptop started having troubles waking up from sleep mode. Most of the times I had to hard-shutdown. I currently solved the issued changing options for sleep mode in control panel, mostly by disabling advanced features (hybrid sleep, usb sleep, network adapters sleep). However I'd like to solve the issue definitely as the current options require a longer time to enter sleep mode.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite Pro T130 running Windows 7 64 bit.

Thanks for helping :-)

Answer:Satellite Pro T130 - Sleep mode problems after installing wireless update

Have you installed updates recommended by Tempro?
Can you send us which versions you have installed?

I presume with old versions you didn?t have this problem, right?

I upgraded to windows 8 pro 64bit I'm wondering if Toshiba will update there drivers to windows 8 well all drivers are running fine apart from graphic drivers there is no win 8 driver.
Apart from the windows update it can play games but doesn't like OpenGL.. I emailed AMD about this but no reply. The graphic board is ATI Mobility HD 4500

Answer:Satellite L500D PSLT9E - Win 8 graphic card driver update question - OpenGL

The standard ATI driver shipped with Windows may not support OpenGL so try installing the Win8 AMD driver from the AMD website.

today updated to win 8.1 from a one year old windows 8, everything went fine
Then I followed Toshiba recommendations for updating the tools but despite doing exactly as explained the flash cards(and the functions buttons) are not functioning, they worked perfectly in win 8!

_The only utility that fails to update is PC health monitor,_ the version installed is and the one from support site for win 8.1 is, when trying to install it fails with error message "not support"

When trying to open the installed health monitor there is also an error message "can`t get the bios type".

This is strange and every other utility recognizes the latest bios version 6.70 an the laptop`s details an serial
I tried all I could think about, installed flash card support tool from win 8, enabling and disabling in the bios, even installed VAP for win 8 but no change

Any help would be highly appreciated
Latest system driver and other tools are installed

Thanks in advance

Answer:Satellite P855-108 - PC health Monitor fails to update - Windows 8.1 update

Another strange thing I did not mention-when starting windows a warning appears:
Toshiba Flash Cards

and buttons OK or cancel
what is the reason for stating "testversion"?

I downloaded an optional update for my laptop wireless connection this morning (there seems to be one every month for the Realtek Wirless LAN). My wireless connection now no longer works despite everything. I assume the best thing to do is use the pre installation system restore point?

Answer:Latest Realtek Wireless Update via Windows update

Yes, Realtek are not great @ writing drivers. Good hardware requires good code. They have the same issues with the high def. sound drivers.

Does the BIOS update flash the BIOS or does this require a different file. I updated a Satellite A60 BIOS to 1.9 but am not sure if this flashed the BIOS as well.

If not where could I get a file to flash the BIOS for a satellite A60-106?

Answer:Satellite A60-106: Question about BIOS update and BIOS Flash

Sorry but you question is a little bit confused.
The BIOS update flashes the ROM module. I don?t know what version was installed before the BIOS update but if after the upgrade a new BIOS version appears then the procedure was successful.

The right BIOS and how to update the BIOS information you can find on the Toshiba page.

im thinking of upgrading my M50A-110 from win8 to win10, but i am having some concerns

namely, when i did recovery on my lap top in win8 i chose 'remove everything and reinstall windows' option.

while doing this none of drivers (geforce experience, intel drivers...), nor toshiba utility programs (service station, desktop assist...), had to be installed manually, but were installed as part of recovery.

i love this feature so much that i would like to know what should i do to keep it in win10?

Answer:Satellite M50-A-110: Question about Windows 10 recovery

Have you created recovery media (DVD or USB stick)?
If yes you can do with your notebook whatever you want and make experiments with upgrade and Windows 10.
Using this created media you can roll back your original OS version that you got with your Satellite notebook.

If you don't have it but you still have original OS version please create this media and make recovery image back-up. After Win10 upgrade you will probably not be able to start HDD recovery image installation. Be careful about that.

I've a M70-148. According to the sepcs there should be 2 windows keys, I've got one at the upper right of the keyboard, bit where is the other?
right next to the spacebar, there is an empty key, how can I configure this one to become a win-key?

Answer:Satellite M70-148: Question about Windows keys

I have checked the user manual of the Satellite M70-148 and according to this manual the keyboard provides 2 windows special keys that have special function in the Windows XP. On activate the start menu and the other has the same function as the secondary mouse button. (Please check the chapter 5 in the manual)
These keys you will find in the right upper corner of the US keyboard.
