Satellite C660 - Error 0xC000000f while Windows 10 upgrade

Question: Satellite C660 - Error 0xC000000f while Windows 10 upgrade

I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 from window 7 on my Satellite C660 series. After the download I got the above error and the laptop is not starting neither in windows 7 or 10. I have the back-up discs that I made a few months back, apart from the disc that came with the laptop. There is a way to use the discs in order to recover it?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have a Toshiba Satellite C660-2KW.
I would like to know if it's possible to make the upgrade for the Windows 10.

If not, when will be possible to do that?

In case of not be possible to upgrade, what are the "problems"/risks in upgrade for the Windows 10?

Thank you so much.

Answer:Satellite C660-2KW - Upgrade to Windows 10??

You have pretty old notebook model and it will not be supported for Win10.
I presume you have created recovery back-up (recovery media) so you can test your notebook and install Win10 to see how it works.
I don’t know if you can have some big problems but what can happen is that sound will not work properly.

I have older non Toshiba notebook and Win10 was installed successfully. Everything works pretty well except sound.

Test it. Play a bit with it. If you will not be happy with it you can go back to original OS anytime you want.

I want to upgrade to Windows 10, my laptop is aproximidly 2 years old.
I have a toshiba sattelite C660/660D. My question is; can I do that, do i need to get new driverpack for it, where do i get those or will Windows find them by itself?
Is here anyone who has the same laptop as mine and did the upgrade? Would you like to tell me if it's satisfying and working correctly?

Answer:Is it safe to upgrade Satellite C660 / 660D to Windows 10

I performed the upgrade on mine as soon as it became available. I found it worked OK but was a little disappointed with speedor rather lack of perfprmance. One of the options to you is to create a windpws 10 set up disc on DVD which I did. I then did a fresh install of windows 10 and reloaded all my programs. This resulted in a much better working laptop.
From the information I read you have to do the upgraded first as Microsoft will then issue a licence that is kept on their servers that is unique to your machine. When you the perform a re-install there is no need to enter a licence key during setup, just skip that step.

Windows 10 rauns well on this laptop I had no issues with drivers other than the card reader, but Googling found a suitable driver that now works, unfortunately I can't remember where I found it sorry. I think the Windows 8 driver was the one I used.

In November there was a big updated which I had major issues with. The installation of it was causing my laptop to overheat and auto shutdown before it would complete. I do have issues with overheating on this machine despite taking it apart and cleaning out and replacing the thermal paste on the processor.

I had to make a new updated Win 10 setup disc on a different PC and use that to update the Toshiba, but it still got hot during update and came close to shutting down.

Win 10 does run nicely and boots quickly, though I did replace the hard drive under Win 7 to an SSD due to hard drive failure, so that w... Read more

Well, Toshiba have now stated that Satellite Pro C660-2DJ is not capable of Windows 10 Upgrade. This after I found opposite statement on other sites and installed it. I am happy enough, given that I'm using it. Ah there is always a but... the Chicony USB 2 Laptop camera is registered as a device, but with (!) in yellow stating no Driver. I have found a driver for this camera, but under Windows 7 64 Bit.

Would it be very risky to install an old original Driver now that Windows 10 is fine? As a rider to this, I now know there are thousands of folk who were assure that their machines would upgrade to Windows 10 and they are desperate because very little works. Thoughts, anyone?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-2DJ - Windows 10 Upgrade and missing Chicony Driver

Since Win8 Toshiba doesn't offer webcam driver anymore and operating system uses standard Windows driver.
I still didn’t upgrade my Satellite S50-B so I don't know if I will have identical problem on my machine.

I’m really interested if any other forum user has solution for this.

Hello to everybody. I have this laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium (no installation disk given by purchase). Since this morning I experience the following message/problem

Windows Error Recovery

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. If windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, startup repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, chose start windows normally

Launch Startup repair (recommended)

Start Windows Normally

Both options do not work. Furthermore, Windows cannot enter in Safe Mode. I live in Belgium and I don't know what to do. Shall I try with a friend's windows 7 installation disk (from Dell notebook) or I should contact Toshiba directly?

Thanks in advance

I've only had my laptop (Satellite C660-23M) for three months, I started having problems with it about a week ago, including a Blue Screen of Death moment but I got the computer into Safe Mode and did a system restore and it has been fine since then. Then earlier today I got a Windows Hard Drive error, telling me to back-up and then repair or replace the Hard Drive. The back-up is going onto an external hard drive as we speak, so fingers crosssed I won't stand to lose all my data.

I did create a back-up media disc when I first got the laptop but everytime I tried it with validation on, it would fail but at the time, I didn't think I would need it so soon, so just created an un-validated copy and thought it'd be fine (I'm now concerned!).

Do I need to restore my hard drive? If so, how? What caused this? And considering it's only 3 months old, am I stuck with a duff laptop that will continue to break on me??

Answer:Satellite C660-23M Windows 7 Hard Drive Error

In your case I would recommend checking the HDD fitness.
This can be done using the freeware tool called HDD Drive Fitness Utility.
I assume that this software can help to detect some HDD errors.

If the HDD would be affected then you would need to replace the HDD.
Here you can find a nice instruction how to do that:

the notebook seems to be covered by warranty so the HDD can be replaced under warrant conditions means this can be done free of charge?
I would recommend asking the ASP (service partner in your country) for such HDD? they could send you such HDD.

I got the Windows failed to start error. A recent hardware or software ...
Then says you need Windows installation disc to repair.
File: \windows\system32\winload.exe
Statu: 0xc000000f
Info: the selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

I am unable to boot into safe mode or anything like that. I did not download anything recently or change anything. Just tried switching it on one day and got this. I only get the option of F2 or F12

Ok so I used my recovery disc and it went through "windows is loading files" till d end and then Microsoft corporation. It doesn't even ask me for language. Then nothing. Black screen with white cursor. Nothing helps. The cursor moves when controlled with mouse pad but that's it. I can't use ctrl + alt + del or anything else to get out. Please can someone help me with this. I have some documents that I would rather not see go. Are there other options apart from reset to factory settings?
Thanks in advance for your help.

Answer:Satellite L300 and error 0xc000000f

>Are there other options apart from reset to factory settings?
If I?ve understood your posting right you cannot install recovery image.
What happen when you press F8 at start-up? Can you enter ?Advanced boot options??

If you have some important documents saved on HDD remove it and connect as external one to other PC so you will be able to copy all of them to the PC.

What you can do?
Try to obtain somewhere Microsoft installation disc to see if the same problem will occurs again. If you will not be able to start OS installation with this installations disc I presume HDD is ?troublemaker? and you should test functionality with other one.

Maybe some friend of you has 2,5? HDD so you can use it for testing purposes.

At the end I must say that most strange thing in the whole story is that you cannot even use recovery disc for OS installation. For me it is best evidence that there must be some hardware related problem.

I recently purchased a Satellite Pro C660 PSC0MA-01K00V from a online seller with all warranty covered. It came as a usual model would come like but with 6GB RAM. I thought it was a great buy so I bought it.

After it arrived, I looked at the specs on the website and it said the max is 4GB RAM. I dont know what happened. The memory in the machine is 1x 4GB Kingston 1x Samsung (original).

Could you tell me what it is and if I can probaly then even fit 8GB?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 - Upgrade to 8GB RAM possible?

Hi foolman555,

Why you don?t believe the official specifications?

Satellite Pro C660 has Intel GL40 Express Chipset and this chipset is limited to 4GB RAM. That means your notebook supports only 4GB RAM and not more.

But usually 4GB is enough for the most applications and I don?t see a reason that an upgrade to 6GB would be so important ;)

I just wonder to upgrade CPU on my laptop to get some perfomance.
I have done upgrade RAM to 8 gb and 64bit Win7.
Now processor is i3-370M (3M cache, 2.40 GHz).

I'm pretty sure I can upgrade to i3-390M Processor (3M Cache, 2.66 GHz), but it will be IMO pointless.
There is same Cache and just a bit faster clock of CPU:,49020

I need someone to aswer for question: may I fit to this laptop any i5 or i7 without trouble with compability with motherboard?

Sorry for my poor english, but I think You'll get point of my case.

Answer:CPU upgrade on Satellite Pro C660-219

>I need someone to answer for question: may I fit to this laptop any i5 or i7 without trouble with compability with motherboard?
You have to know that CPUs upgrades are not supported by any notebook manufacturer. This means that nobody can say if an CPU would be fully compatible and would not cause any troubles. Such upgrades are own risk.

You could read this Toshiba statement regarding upgrades.
[Is it possible to upgrade the CPU or GPU of a Toshiba Notebook?|]

The point is that even the chipset which is part of the motherboard would support the new CPU, the BIOS could not be fully compatible and the combination of BIOS and new CPU could cause new troubles.

The unit seems to support the INTEL HM55 chipset and from my knowledge the Toshiba Satellite C660/C665/Pro C660 Series is based on a Dual Core/Quad Core Processor ( *Intel Arrandale* processors)

So if you want to search for a compatible CPU, you should check the CPUs belonging to the Intel Arrandale processors family.

Hey guys,

Thanks a lot for taking a look at my post.
I have Satellite C660-108. I'm thinking of upgrading ram from 3 GB up to 8 GB.
I will be very grateful if someone could answer my questions before I make a purchase.

This is a Ram model. I'm thinking of buying.

Kingston HyperX Plug in and Play DDR3 1600MHz CL9 8GB SODIMM Memory Module

I wonder if it would fit to my laptop ?

Also I found this on C660-108

Type : Intel? Graphics Media Accelerator HD
memory amount : up to 1,273 MB shared memory with 3 GB system memory installed, and up to 1,696 MB with 4 GB system memory, (with pre-installed 64-bit operating system)
memory type : shared .

If I upgrade ram up to 8 GB would it mean that my graphics system memory will be up to 3,392 MB as well ?

Thank you so much.

Answer:RAM upgrade up to 8GB on Satellite C660-180

According to Toshiba notebook spec page, the 8GB RAM (2 x 4GB) are definitely possible.
Kingston is a good RAM manufacturer and provide good quality modules.

The RAM modules should support following sepcs:
DDR3 1066MHz (PC3-8500)

The CPU PENTIUM P6100 (2.00GHZ) supports an 1.066MHZ FSB and therefore the PC3-8500 should run at full speed 1066MHz

> f I upgrade ram up to 8 GB would it mean that my graphics system memory will be up to 3,392 MB as well ?
More RAM means a bigger part can be shared with the GPU but this is controlled by graphic card driver automatically.

My son?s laptop got this error yesterday and all day today I have been trying to resolve the issue and have hit a brick wall.
Here is what I have tried so far, It's running vista, F8 recovery safe mode, F12 boot from CD/DVD with recovery discs, F12 boot from CD/DVD with windows Vista recovery (downloaded today) all come to the same end it will start to install files then the screen just goes blank and hangs there until I restart the laptop.

I still have a month warranty left. Is it worth taking back to pc world?
Thanks in advance. Dean

Answer:Satellite L300 shows error 0xc000000f

Hi mate,

This sounds like a hardware problem... I mean if you can?t reinstall Windows using Toshiba recovery disk because it shows some errors it can?t be a software problem.

I think the best option would be an authorized service provider. If your notebook is still under warranty, the repair should be for free normally. The technicians can check the notebook and exchange the defective hardware parts.

Here you can search for nearest ASP: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

I have a Toshiba Portege R830-10Q that I am trying to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

When upgrading it stumbles and goes into a repair loop at 29% which then gives me the error 0xc000000f with no way of rolling back.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Problem with upgrade from 4 Gb to 8 Gb

Well, its definitely possible to upgrade the RAM up to 8GB RAM.
Your case looks like a new RAM isn?t fully compatible or the module could be faulty.

Toshiba says that the DDR3 RAM (1,066 MHz) 4GB RAM PA3677U-1M4G module should be fully compatible.

The module PA3677U-1M4G should be the same like the module from Kingston KTT1066D3/4G
You need definitely an 1066Mhz PC3-8500 204 pin DDR3 SODIMM module.

Hey guys,

I currently own a Satellite C660-28R. When I originally got it, it was pre-loaded with Win7 Home Edition on it. I upgraded to Win8.1 Pro, and subsequently Win10 Pro when that became available.

When I first got the laptop, both the built-in mic and webcam were working. But since updating, I have found it doesn't work. It wasn't too much of a big deal before, but I now have family living abroad and would like to Skype them.

I have gone through all possible options to get this to work;
-I've gone into Device Manager, and checked to see if the drivers were up-to-date (which they were)
-There's no option to roll back the driver to an earlier one.
-I've used several 3rd party applications to try and find a newer driver.
-I've un-installed, and re-installed the drivers.
-I've gone into the BIOS menu on boot-up, and Webcam is enabled.

When I open Skype, the blue LED comes on beside the cam, but no video will show and no sound is picked up.

I have the Toshiba Webcam Application installed, and again, no audio or visual is picked up, although the blue LED is lit.

Please, help me!

Answer:Processor upgrade on Satellite C660

Generally speaking CPU upgrade is not possible. More about that you can read on follow Toshiba document

I also think that such upgrade on newest notebook models is risky and unprofitable. You have new notebook with valid warranty. After upgrade it will be cancelled. You also don?t know how it will works due to hardware construction and cooling system.

At least for that money that you must put into upgrade you could buy other notebook with more powerful CPU and hardware in general.
Sorry but for me this makes no sense at all.

All help much appreciated,
Thanks in advance,

Answer:Satellite Pro L300D-20R: Shows error 0xc000000f when recovered

As far as I know you have to press F8 in order to start the HDD recovery procedure.
Then a new menu should appear where you could choose ?Repair my Computer?.
Then you should choose ?HDD recovery?.

If this is not possible then this would mean that there is something wrong with the HDD or with the partition which contains the HDD recovery files/image.
Maybe this would explain why the booting from CD/DVD drive is not possible.

At the other hand an RAM memory malfunction could be the reason too.
Therefore it?s necessary to check such parts.

By the way; are you able to boot from another bootable disks like Win XP or Linux live CD?

I note the slot above the screen which should house a web cam - is it relatively easy to buy something to fit in there and install it myself (I'm not very technical and don't have a good range of tools)?

Or, is there a reliable add-on camera / mic combination I should get?

I just installed the Tempro application, and it detected that my BIOS needs an upgrade, so I naturally downloaded the "new" BIOS. Everything went fine, but when I tried to install it, a message popped up in the install window:

"*The program will be closed!* There is an error occurred, please check below items. Bios version above 190. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached."

No matter what I do, I get the same error, over and over again. I looked the problem up before I posted this thread, and other people encountered it, but, unlike my case, advices like "Close all background applications", "Charge your battery", or "Make sure the AC is attached" really helped them.

I tried closing everything, my battery is always fully charged, as I rarely disconnect the AC adapter, and, of course, the AC connection issue is not the cause, since it is almost always plugged in.

I checked my BIOS version in +msinfo32.exe+ and it is 1.90 already, but I remember upgrading it months ago (sooner than the release date of this last version), and if, hypothetically, I have the last version already installed, why doesn't Tempro acknowledge it and keeps alerting me over a non-existent issue?

Maybe there is something wrong with Tempro, but I just need to be sure before... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660 - 1C7: BIOS upgrade issue

Tempro notify you about new uploaded drivers or BIOS?
The Toshiba European driver page provides all the drivers and BIOS files and the latest BIOS version 1.90-win has been uploaded at 04.06.2012 and therefore you received this notification by Tempro software.

Who knows why they uploaded this file once again.. but fact is that your BIOS is up to date and therefore you cannot update the BIOS once again using the one and the same version.

Re: C660-1NR

I have lost the use of the function (FN) button.
I have recently upgraded the BIOS to the latest version about 2 weeks ago but did not notice anything wrong until I wanted to turn off the wireless mode last week.

Anybody know what has caused this?

Answer:Satellite C660-1NR - Lost use of FN buttons after Bios upgrade

Did you notice the problems with all FN buttons or only with the special combination FN + F8 which enables and disables the WLan?

Usually the Toshiba Flash Card Support Utility controls the FN buttons so you could try to restart this tool which you can find in All Programs ? Toshiba -> restart Flash Cards

Answer:Satellite C660 - black screen after memory upgrade

Sounds like not compatible or faulty module.
Can you boot the notebook properly using the old modules?
If yes, then the new memory should be replaced with another one.

I recommend Kingston modules? in my opinion they make good quality?

I get error 0xc000000f when restarting and if i try the recovery disk i get error error: 10-FC12-0241
operating system is vista business and laptop is toshiba L300 PSLB1A - 02S008

Answer:Satellite Pro L300 PSLB1A: Recovery disk not working - 0xc000000f error

You mean you cannot boot the notebook using the Toshiba Recovery disk which you have created?

Go to the BIOS and check if the CD/DVD drive is recognized. It should be listed on the first BIOS page.
If the CD/DVD drive is not listed then you should set the SATA mode to compatible and should save the changes.
After that try to boot again from the Recovery disk.

I also searched on the Toshiba European driver page for some info and found some details;

There is a firmware update for CD/DVD drive TS-L633A and TS-L633P.
This Firmware solve "Sometime not able to writing on DVD+R media".
The issue happens only DVD+R media, other kind of media have no problem.

I trialled Lightroom 5 on my Satellite Pro C660 and it worked fine.

I decided to get it, and that week Lightroom 6 came out, so I bought Lightroom 6.

LR6 gets to its splash screen and then stops and Windows7 closes it.
I contacted Adobe and they went onto my machine and identified the problem as being the graphics card and said I need a driver update.

I have been on the Toshiba site and it says that the latest available driver is, which is the one I currently have (and was last modified in 2012).

I have been on the Intel site and their auto-upgrader says the machine has a customized driver so contact Toshiba.
I have looked around the Intel site and tried to install what look to be plausible drivers, but haven't found one which would install.

My setup includes an LG 22" monitor connected to the laptop with the desktop spread across the two screens (laptop and monitor).

Does anyone know what the driver upgrade I need would be or how I can find out?

Answer:Satellite Pro C660 needs graphics driver upgrade for Adobe Lightroom 6

The graphic card driver from Intel page can be used and you can also download the driver directly from the page.

What CPU does your notebook support?
What Intel GPU (chipset Intel HD graphics ******) does the notebook support?

The Intel download page provides Intel driver as an exe or zip package

You need to download and to unpack the zip package.
Then you will be able to update the driver within the device manager choosing the Advanced installation update procedure.

Wow what a catastrophe, this is a windows 7 - 32bit machine Satellite C660 PSC1GA-01E01M stuck in an endless BSOD loop.

The lappy said it was ok to upgrade to windows 10 so... I did.
Now its stuck in a never ending BSOD loop.

So I decided to use the recover option and reinstall windows 7 and then upgrade from there.
After mega downloads of updates and finally got to the stage where there was no updates left to get, I then decided to upgrade to windows 10 again.

Now stuck in a never ending BSOD loop again.

Can someone point me to the driver that's failing, I can get to safe mode ok, device manager has 2 issues

1) is under OTHER DEVICES is a Unknown device
2) is Generic pnp monitor

I have tried Toshiba website for updates to windows 8 32 bit drivers thinking this might be the best step but the links are bad and the webpage says sorry no one home...

Also no network, if I try logging to the safemode with networking, it returns to BSOD screens...

Answer:Satellite C660 stuck in an endless BSOD loop after Win 10 upgrade

Toshiba released an list with all Toshiba models supported for upgrade to Windows 10

Satellite C660 PSC1GA is not listed there and this means that this model isn’t supported for Win 10 and will not get Win 10 drivers.

Nevertheless the Win 10 should run on this unit because it meets the essential hardware requirements.

I guess that the BSOD loop appear due to some drivers which are not fully Win 10 compatible and probably these drivers must be removed before performing the Win 10 update.

To check the compatibility follow this steps:
Right-click the “Get Windows 10 icon” (on the right side of the taskbar) and then click "Check your upgrade status." In the Get Windows 10 app, click the h menu (3 lines) and then click "Check your PC".Now you should see the list of compatibility issues

Also this kind of issue could be fixed by Microsoft update as mentioned in this article:

Hello. My laptop was working fine up until today when I kept getting an error message stating, "System Warning" and reads: "Warning: A problem with the cooling system has been detected. (Next Line) Please turn off the computer immediately, and return it for service."

I have turned the laptop off but was wondering if was possible that the fan may just need a cleaning or something as I didn't hear any problems. If I do need it repaired does anyone know how much it would cost?

Answer:Satellite C660-18C fan error message

We cannot discuss here about costs. It is country specific service and prices are different.
Best you can do is to contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help.

My Satellite C660 CD/DVD ROM drive is not reading CDs. When checking my Device Manager, there is a problem identified:
"Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)".

How do I go about repairing this fault?

Answer:Re: Satellite C660 - CD/DVD drive error code 19

This is a known issue and there are already many threads here in forum about error code 19 in device manager. Toshiba has already released an FAQ regarding this article:

To get rid of this you have to delete the upper- and lowerfilters in Windows registry:

1.Start > Run > Regedit
2.Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
3.In the right pane, delete the "UpperFilters" key, and delete the "LowerFilters" key.

Hello There,

I recently purchased a Satellite C660/C660D everything is fine, apart from one or two minor issues (which this thread is about). Firstly, The laptop was and still is littered with loads of TOSHIBA random software, below is a list:

+TOSHIBA Assist+
+TOSHIBA Bulletin Board+
+TOSHIBA ConfigFree+
+TOSHIBA Disc Creator+
+TOSHIBA Face Recognition+
+TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility+
+TOSHIBA Hardware Setup+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller+
+TOSHIBA Media Controller Plug-in+
+TOSHIBA Online Product Information+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator+
+TOSHIBA Recovery Media Creator Reminder+
+TOSHIBA ReelTime+
+TOSHIBA Service Station+
+TOSHIBA Supervisor Password+
+Toshiba TEMPRO+
+TOSHIBA Value Added Package+
+TOSHIBA Web Camera Application+

Is there a pre made ISO recovery image somewhere or do I have to make my own, because if I decide to unisntall some of these programs I might need it at a later date?

The second issue is with the TOSHIBA Accessiblity application which shows the FN keys, it does not seem to start. It worked the first day then I disabled all TOSHIBA applications from startup and I get the following error: "Registry is missing or may be broken.", I dont know why!

I have tried cleaning the registry, so the registry isnt broken.

*Thanks in Advance*

Answer:Satellite C660 - TOSHIBA Accessibility Error

Hi Humza,

I?m happy to hear that you?re an owner of Toshiba notebook too and you discovered the forum here. We can discuss everything about Toshiba notebooks, that?s interesting :)

I will try to help you to sort this out:

1.Yes, there is a premade recovery image to restore factory settings with all driver and tools on your notebook but important is you burn this image on a blank DVD using preinstalled recovery media creator. You will get a disk with an image of Windows with all drivers and tools => ?out of box settings?. So the same settings as you purchased the computer.

2.I think the FN keys don?t work anymore because you disabled some important Toshiba tools they are necessary for FN keys. For FN keys the startup items ?TOSHIBA Button Support? and ?TOSHIBA Flash Cards? are absolutely necessary so you should enable them and restart the computer.

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. So I updated the bios to 1.30 with no problems but when trying to update to 1.50 it still displays the error.

Any ideas? Need to get the bios installed as it seems to fix the typing issues that the laptop has been suffering from.

I recently bought a Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D for my nephew, We have forgotten the administrator password and we don't have password reset disk is there anyway around this.

Answer:I forgot my administrator password on Satellite C660/C660

I assume you are talking about windows system password and not about BIOS password. Right?
It?s not very big problem if you forgotten the System password but if you mean BIOS password then you are in trouble because the BIOS password can be deleted just by an Toshiba ASP technicians?

So I assume you mean Windows password? so start the notebook and press F8
Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

It looks like an problem with HDD.
Please check if the HDD is recognized in BIOS. Power up the unit and press F2.
Usually this should help to access the BIOS.
At the first BIOS page the HDD should be mentioned? is it?
If not then this means that HDD is dead and needs to be replaced?

By the way: you did not post the notebook model? but if it?s 3 weeks old, then you have to get in contact with an Toshiba service if the HDD would be faulty? you should get a new one free of charge because the warranty should be valid.

Hello all, i am in need of help here.

I have a Satellite C660-26G, 2 days old and a USB memory stick has been removed from the laptop while it was working, and I believe caused some sort of corruption.

The machine starts, passes the logo, and the windows loading bar in white comes along bottom of the screen. It freezes about 1/3rd of the way along, and then throws up an error screen stating the following:

"Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the drive is in use .... and so on ...."

It states to plug it back in and restart the machine.

I have tried this and always the same, i have even plugged it into both ports available, and to no avail, the same problem exists.

Now searching the forum I thought nothing more of restoring to the factory settings as there were no physical discs supplied with the new machine.

Using the reboot and F8 method results in no action and same error in the end.

Bottom of the error screen states;

Status: 0xc00000e9
Info: An unexpected I/O error has occurred.

Please help ???

Answer:Satellite C660-26G - unexpected error after removing USB stick

Whether this issue has any relation to the incident with you USB stick or not (I don't think so since modern OS'es simply aren't so unstable) it still seems your unit is in need of professional attention.
This is not something that is possible to fix without further hardware diagnosis.

I would suggest to call your local support or talk to your dealer about how to get your unit to service.

I have a laptop from a client, that is a Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-239, and i'm having a strange issue.

The original hard disk failed, and as the laptop is out of warranty, we bought a new hard disk, and ordered the recovery media to this model, from our local toshiba repair assistance.

After the setup copied the files to the disk, the imageX fails when restoring the image files with the error:

"the file or directory is corrupted and unreadable".

The hard disk is new, and i tried also with more 2 hard disks, and also with an external cd-rom drive.

I talked with the support from the local repair assistance, and they told me this occurs because the new hard drive ins't compatible with the recovery media?!

One of the new hard disks i tried, was the exact same model than the original hard disk, and the error still occurs, so the hard disk can't be the problem.

Is there any change of the recovery media is corrupted?

Could also be a motherboard problem?

Thank you

Answer:Satellite Pro C660-239 - Error restoring from recovery media

Of course this is possible.
In case the HDD is OK, the recovery media could be corrupted.

>Could also be a motherboard problem?
I don?t think so?. I presume the HDD is recognized in BIOS properly and the error message says something about corrupted directory. I guess the disk directory is meaning and I think media should be replaced.

Having recently set up a new Satellite C660-1ZM running Windows 7 64bit (upgraded from Home Premium to Ultimate) for a friend, the mousepad and USB ports have suddenly stopped working. The drivers show an exclamation mark against them and the error is "code 52" which is related to driver signing. Windows doesn't seem to recognise the driver signatures for the published drivers that came on the machine's pre-installed disc, so the devices don't work. I've updated the drivers (Intel chipset [which includes USB]; Synaptics touchpad) to the latest ones publised on the Toshiba web site - and we have the same problem.

Pressing F8 on boot allows you to select "disable checking of driver signing" in the WIndows 7 boot options, which then enables the drivers and all is well, until you reboot - at which point you have to hit F8 again.

I think that one of the many recent Windows updates has somehow messed things up, but we can't easily prove that. The machine worked fine for a week or so, then the mousepad suddenly quit working around 8th August 2012.

1) Are there valid signed drivers that pass whatever checks Microsoft impose on driver signing, including whatever checks they've potentially just imposed via some recently inflicted update?

2) Does anyone know exactly how to disable the checking of driver signing permanently, so that a reboot will not require the F8 keypress and so on?

Uninstalling the mousepad driver and rebooting gives the ba... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660-1ZM Win 7 64bit: mousepad and USB - "code 52" driver error

Did you receive the error that windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device? Usually this means the error code 52
Since the USB drivers are parts of the Windows OS, I don?t think that this could be an signature issue? I think some files are damaged.

Try to uninstalling/reinstalling the driver and deleting the device and it?s drivers from device manager before reinstalling.
Usually this should help, if not, well try to repair the system.

Power up the unit and press F8. Then choose Repair my Computer.
Now choose the first option which would help to repair the system.

Hello forumers. Yesterday I removed dual booting Linux and after that my Windows 10 won't boot up. I have tried everything. The cmd commands: bootrec /FixMbr; bootrec /FixBoot; bootrec /RebuildBcd; Bcdboot commands and everything. Then I tried Refreshing PC what says: Drive where Windows is installed is locked. Please unlock it.....
Startup repair just scans for a short periood and then says: Couldn't fix the problem. I can't Access normal Recovery options, so I'm using a recovery flash drive. I have tried several Live CDs but none of them won't fix the problem. I can access the UEFI Bios, but idk what to change there. I've searched hours for solution. I don't want to fresh install Windows, unless it's the only option, because it contains importnant data. Please reply

Answer:Windows 10 Can't boot, error 0xc000000f

Maybe there is a better solution, but if your hard disk has enough space, you could try to install Windows 10 again in a second partition. Start Windows 10 Setup and then shrink the current partition at about 15-20GB to make room for the second installation. Then install Windows 10 to the second partition. This should reinstall the Windows Boot Loader and add an entry to boot your old Windows installation as well. See if you can boot to your original Windows 10 installation. If you do, you can remove the boot entry for the new installation (careful to remove the right one!) and then delete the second partition and expand the first to take all space again. Not a convenient solution, but it would save you the trouble of taking a backup and installing all your applications from scratch!

Hey guys, I recently tried turning on my HP Pavillion dv5 laptop with Windows Vista and a Windows Error Recovery screen came up that said: "Windows failed to start. A recent hardware of software change might be the cause. If Windows files have been damaged or configured incorrectly, Startup Repair can help diagnose and fix the problem. If power was interrupted during startup, choose start windows normally." It then gives me two choices:Launch Startup Repair (recommended)Start Windows Normally If I click on the first option it states that I need to insert my windows installation disk, which I dont have. It then say Status: 0xc000000fInfo: The boot selection failed because a required device is inaccessible. If I choose the second option, the screen turns black until a blue screen appears for half a second. It then returns me to the same windows error recovery screen.   I honestly have no idea what to do and would appreciate any help. Is there any way to fix this problem without erasing all my memory or using the installation disk?

When can we expect to be able to download the driver software to enable an upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10?

And, when is Toshiba Support going to have enough staff to take calls within a reasonable time-frame? Sorry but a wit of 10 minutes on a premium rate number is not acceptable!

My C660 needs a new hard drive. It came with Windows 7 home premium pre-installed and I would like to return to that.

If I go to Microsoft to download windows 7 with my product key, it gives an error. I contacted MS support. I don't quite remember what they said but they couldn't help, possibly because it was a manufacturer installed version?

So If I get a new hard drive, how can I return to my previous OS, Windows 7 Home Premium?

Help please?

Answer:Satellite C660 needs new HDD - Windows 7

You can have previous OS (recovery image) if you install it using recovery media (DVD or USB).
I presume you didn’t create this recovery media in the past, right?

If you still can use your notebook and preinstalled OS try please to create this media using preinstalled recovery media utility. More about that you can read in user’s manuals document.

Untl now I didn?t make some experiments with Win8 but I think there should not be problem if you use Win7 drivers.

Create recovery DVD and make test with Win8. If you don?t like it or you will see that there are problems with drivers, tools or utilities installation you can install recovery image again using created recovery DVD.

I think you are the first one with Win8 and it will be nice if you can make short report about all this. It will be interesting to read your experience about it.

I was able once to get to a backup option, but it said it did not have enough space to do a recovery of my 1/5/15 backup.  Since then, I haven't been able to get back to that point. I attempted to use One Key Recovery (OKR) (F2) to rescue/repair my system, but it never took me to any onscreen instructions to select the backup task to restore from.  Instead, I get a picture of a green plant???  What the heck is that? How can I get back to a backup/restore screen?  Can someone please help/guide me as to what I should do in order to use the backup created already in D drive and restore my system? Thank you.

Hi all,

I've seen this problem a lot online, in forums etc., but none of them offer a solution for my situation, the main difference being my 'Product Recovery CD' wont load. Can anyone help!?!?
I have a Toshiba Equium Laptop, with Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit
When i switch it on it goes to a 'Windows Boot Manager' screen.
It reads: 'Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:
1. Insert your windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your lamguage settings, and then click 'Next'.
3. Click 'Repair your computer'.
File: \Boot\BCD
Status: 0xc000000f
Info: An error occured while attempting to read the boot configuration data.'
Before this screen appears I have options to press F2 or F12 only.
I've gone into Bios and selected to boot from the CD (Recovery CD) but it does nothing - no screen to select language etc., appears, nothing. It whurrs & spins a lot but nothing appears. I've even copied a Recovery download onto a USB and tried booting from that, but does nothing also.
It appears I cant access the Product Recovery CD to even reinstall windows
Can anyone shed some light on this problem???
Much apprecited!

Answer:Windows failed to start, 0xc000000f error

That sounds like a BIOS matter.

First, set the boot order of your machine so that it boots from the CD first. When the machine boots up and you see the first screen, hit the <F2> key, the <F10> key and the <F12> keys at the same time. You'll see a screen with the computer's boot order. Use the arrow keys to get to the CD drive, then hit <Enter> and it'll go to the top of the list.

Reboot. It should boot from the CD and get cracking.

On some Toshiba machines you can boot straight from the CD by pressing the <F12> and <C> keys at the same time at the initial boot screen.

Hi there,

I'm posting this thread after getting tired reading all the post everywhere with no specific solution for the problem I've been already facing since last night with all the hopes to get it all done right here guys.. help me plz.!!

well I'm using a Dell Inspiron laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate x64. last night i had like a spyware and unfortunately someone suggested SpyHunter4 software to deal with it. for all those having such experience you may understand that once i restarted the system it went through Grub Loader that i realized later it's a Linux system file which I've never had or installed. anyway i have a flash drive which has a Windows 7 installation files (using it as the Windows 7 setup DVD) which i had to boot from going into Windows 7 Setup--> repair your computer then running the Command Prompt to enter the lines:

in both cases i got the result that it has been done successfully. Now after booting my computer i got the following:

"Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause." telling me to get back to my Windows installation disc and run Repair my computer in order to fix this problem ending that with the lines:

I am submitting a request for help with a windows 10 desktop. I am getting the error from the windows boot manager that my status of this error is 0xc000000f. When I press enter as it gives me the option to enter or exit, my operating system boots up with no problems. I have read on multiple sites this is a more common windows 7 issue and a repair disk should fix it but I have windows 10 and have tried a few of the chkdsk commands. However no luck. I can't boot into Windows. I don't want to have to restore the computer to factory settings and lose all my data. This all started with Windows updates that failed to install. I could not get into Safe Mode and tried several things as I mention below, including using the software of Easy Recovery Essentials, which made things worse. I emailed NeoSmart twice and have gotten no response.

Other than restoring the computer to factory default, is there another option, such as getting the Windows ISO and reinstalling Windows?

Here is what occurred in full detail.

I decided a few weeks ago to download multiple Windows updates. Most of them were installed, but to complete the installation for some of them, Windows said it needed to be restarted. Because I had multiple programs, folders, and files opened, I chose not to restart my computer then. I decided this past Saturday to finally restart my computer so that these updates can be applied. I was closing open files, folders, and programs. This was taking a long time because I had multiple things open and also because the computer was running sluggishly. After having a majority of things closed, I got impatient and decided to hold down the power button to shut off the computer. I turned the computer back on and windows began to apply the updates prior to fully booting up (I'm referring to the blue screen that shows the percentage of an update or updates being applied before one is taken to the desktop). Windows then sh... Read more

now if i hit enter it takes me to choose an os to start OR use a tool now if i choose an os to start is just resets and takes me back to the "windows failed to start" screen and if i run the tool it does not find anything.

i used my pc to make a repair disc but when i put it into the other pc nothing happens and yes i changed the load order in Bios to do CD/DVD first

A few months ago I bought a Corsair Force III 60GB SSD and I use it for my OS and non-game programs (in exception of Crysis Warhead which didn't let me choose the install path). The drive is all very fast and all that (despite me using it in a SATA II board as opposed to SATA III which is still confirmed to be 100% compatible), but about every 1-in-4 to 1-in-6 power-ups, the system spends a few seconds scanning the drives then can only find the 2 WD HDDs and my DVD drive, then coming up with error message 0xc000000f:

The first time I got this error was the day after I installed the drives and set them all up (AHCI mode on, TRIM for the SSD on, Hibernation off, Defrag auto-disabled for the SSD, attempted to update Forceware for SSD which it turned out I already had the latest) e.t.c).

There is a simple TEMPORARY "fix"
I powered down the system, then unplugged the SATA data connector from the SSD and then back in again and powered up

Bingo - it works every time, with the OS and the rest of the system functioning wonderfully but doing this about every 1-in-4 to 1-in-6 power ups is getting very boring.

Does anyone have any PERMANENT solutions to this problem?

Answer:Windows boot error 0xc000000f every ~ 1-in-4 to 6 startups with SSD

Did you try following the instructions in your print screen above? If it's a boot error, Windows 7 does a great job of automatically repairing many of them.

So my laptop Toshiba satellite c660 1np could not boot up, so I read on the internet that enabling fast boot would work.
I did that and it worked.
I wanted to refresh my laptop so I wanted to install windows 7 again.
After formatting my drive and trying to install windows, the error:
windows cannot be installed to this disk. this computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. ensure that the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu.

And then I restarted my laptop and then this came up

I can't enter bios because this screen comes up and now my windows is formatted and I can't install it.

In one sentence: Can't get in bios and can't install windows on my laptop

Thanks for your help

Answer:Error 0xC000000F can't get in boot and install windows

You would enter the BIOS/UEFI before you ever got to that screen, so that part of things hasn't been established yet. However, I would say this has all the markings of a failed HDD. Unless you deliberately disabled something in the UEFI/BIOS config, which seems unlikely considering you're confused about how to even access it, when Windows won't boot you tend to have one of two causes: 1) The filesystem on the drive is damaged beyond any reasonable hope of repair and you need to completely reinstall the OS or 2) the drive is in an early state of failure where it may work perfectly fine for a few seconds, but then fall over.

One other possibility is that since you're trying to install Windows 7, you didn't make a copy of the Win 7 install media for use with a UEFI based system. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think there's actually a separate error message for that.

With luck someone will have another idea that will fix the issue quickly, but I would definitely be prepared for the worst-case scenario of it being a bum HDD. If the unit is under warranty, be sure to make Toshiba replace the drive if it becomes necessary to replace it.

I'm running Windows 7 on my desktop PC, dualbooting with Fedora 24.
Recently, I've had a few blackouts, and my PC was running when one of said blackouts occurred. Now, starting back up, Windows gave me the choice between running recovery mode and starting normally, because of power surges, and I chose recovery mode. I can't remember the specifics of what happened, but suffice it to say it failed, and I rebooted into Windows.
Now I'm faced with a screen giving me an error, namely, 0xc000000f, an error occurred while attempting to read the boot configuration data, and it suggests I boot using my Windows installation disk. I fished it out, and booted to it, started system recovery options. System recovery options searched for an operating system, and said it detected a problem with my computer's startup options, and these were the details:
I selected repair and restart, and immediately I get a "Failed to save startup options." box. After closing it, I'm on the system recovery options menu with an option to restore my computer with a system image and the option to use recovery tools, with a text field below that is supposed to list operating systems, but which is empty. Since I'm an idiot and don't use Windows that much, I have no system image to restore to.
I will point out that through Fedora(which works fine), I can access my Windows partitions, and all my files are fine, it just seems to be a problem with the boot files.

Hello and welcome andesite mate can you get into safe mode?? - power on while tapping F8 if you can try running these
SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f and /r in the command line as per Option2 > in safe mode if need be

SFC usually best run for three scans

This may also be of some help. Persoanlly I ma not a fan of dual boots - had too many issues withthem in the past and just gave them away. If I wnat to run another system I usually swap otu dedicated drives.

In nay case mate do make images when things are right again see this

Hi friends,

I'd like to ask you if my Toshiba Satellite C660-R12 is compatible with Windows XP? I'm not able to find out any information about it.

Thanks for your help

Answer:Satellite C660-12R - Compatible to Windows XP?

Hi wencman,

It?s important to know if you can get all drivers for your notebook model and Windows XP. This must be checked on official Toshiba page: > Support & Downloads > Download drivers

Satellite C660-12R belongs to PSC0QE series and as you can see all drivers for Windows XP are available so installing XP should be no problem. You can download official and pretested drivers! :)
