I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I download the Bios on Toshiba by writting my Serial Number of my laptop.
I checked first my current bios and it was 1.5 I think. The new one was 1.60. I flashed it on WIN 7 64bit
First it verified, it erased and then it wrote after the wrote process, the laptop did a restart automatically. But after the laptop closed and powered again, It stucked at blank black screen. Fan, CD Rom, Keyboard were working. I think USB too because when I connect my phone to laptop, my phones battery is loading. Please I need help. I'm out of warranty.

What I tried so far:
Pull battery out
Plug Power Cable out
Hold power button about 1 minute
Plug Power cable back
Press Power Button
Solution: Same; Blank Black Screen

Answer:Satellite C660D-1F2 - Black Screen after BIOS Update

I?m afraid something goes wrong with BIOS update and now BIOS is ?screwed up?. Usually in this case you need professional help from Toshiba service but it can be pretty expensive.

On this forum you can find many threads where people have described the same problem. Some of them have been able to fix this. one very interesting thread you can find here . Check it out please.

I tried to update my Bios on my Satellite C660D (psc1YE) notebook last week (big mistake).

Something went wrong during update and now when I switch on I just get a black screen (just LED?s and fan).

After having investigated, the conclusion is I have corrupted the BIOS which now needs to be flashed blind.
So I got hold of a 512MB memory stick, formatted using FAT through windows XP, and used Wincris to create a bootable disk ? having added the bios.rom file (renamed to Bios.wph) which I extracted from the latest BIOS update from the Toshiba site.

My memory stick has three visible files on it ? Phlash16.exe, bios.wph and minidos.
I plug stick into laptop with battery, DVD drive, and power cable disconnected, hold Fn+B down while re-connecting cable?and switch on.

The fan whirs at full speed and the USB stick lights up and then flashes for a minute as if being read. No matter how long I leave on, the fan keeps whirring and the USB light stays on and when I disconnect and re-start ? still a black screen.

I have tried different sticks, (up to 4 GB, with FAT32 format), different boot disk programs (e.g. HP utility) but still no luck.

Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong? I have tried looking for a more recent version of Phlash16 just in case that was the problem, but cannot find one anywhere (mine is 2008 version)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated?even if its just to tell me I am wasting my time because the pc is un-fixable.

Answer:Black screen on Satellite C660D (PSC1YE) after BIOS update

I cannot say you if you wasting your time or not because I don?t know if the motherboard ROM module is OK or not?

In most cases it should be possible to reflash the ROM module again using the crisis BIOS disk but such disk is available for Toshiba authorized service technicians and as far as I know such reflash method is not always the same?

However, in some cases it could be possible that the mobo could not be fixed by crisis disk? this would be the worst case?

I recommend you to get in contact with an Toshiba authorized service provider in order to check this? the guys would be able to use the crisis disk and could test if its possible to reflash the ROM module?
If it would not be possible?well? in such case you would need new motherboard :(
But lets hope you do't need it...

If the motherboard is ?fault? we don?t need to discuss much about it. Your notebook must be repaired.
I presume BIOS chip is screwed up.
How old is your notebook? Is warranty still valid?

Satelitte C660D 15F

Hi guys,

I have a big problem with my laptop. When I started it - from standby mode - two days ago, I heard the computer start normally but the screen remained black. No mater how often I tried to restart, the screen shows nothing, no message no image. The normal operating light on the side remains on but the lights on the keyboard stay off. I can hear the computer run normally (fan etc.).

I tried hitting shift F8 start buttom on the first night and the image was back on the first attempt when I started the machine and everything seemed normal again ! The next days though, I had a black screen once more and the trick never worked again, no matter how often I tried.

Can somebody please help me out of this mess ? Has anyone encountered a similar problem ? How did you solve it ?

My machine is now exactly four years old.

Thank you so much for your ideas ! I really need to access some files on there !

Answer:Satellite C660D 15F - black screen after start

Disconnect AC power supply and remove the battery. After doing this press power button for about 30 seconds and try to reset your machine. Leave it for a while and try to start it with AC power supply only.

I installed the latest bios on my computer Satellite C660D-104 but it has not rebooted.

Where is the place to do a reset?

Under the ram I have no triple x or B499

I can not find, can you help me please?

Answer:Satellite C660D-104 does not boot after BIOS update

BIOS update failed? this means that ROM module (where the BIOS is stored) isn?t flashed properly.
As far as I know such issue could be resolved by flashing the ROM module again using Toshiba BIOS crisis disk.
I guess Toshiba authorized service provider own such crisis disk and could reflash the ROM

Hello to all,

I have a Toshiba laptop which requested to Update into the new bios ,from 1.40 to 1.60 so i pressed Okay, all went well all green at 100% , it restarted and from then i have black screen.

I searched around the internet and i saw many people with the same laptop as mine ,to have the same problem ,i think it's problem from Toshiba (out of warranty product).

I have found that the only bios file that i get from the european site is the 1.60
So i download it , i extract it to use with crisis but inside i see 2 folders

DIS (inside has bios.rom and ec.rom)
UMA (inside has bios.rom and ec.rom)

Don't know what to use, or how do i get it alive ,any help ?

I tried with both folders with all the necessary things.

Yesterday I tried to execute bios upgrade but it got stuck in step 3 (of 27 I think).
I left it as this for more than an hour, nothing happened.

I also tried to cancel it or press CTRL+ALT+DEL but the machine was completely frozen.
It did not react when I pulled out the power cord.

Basically the only thing that I could do was to remove battery that I did. PROBLEM - now the laptop is completely dead. Not like others were saying that it boots. It does not do absolutely anything - even there are no LED lights on when I plug the power cord.

I tried to remove the battery and hold the power button for a while in order to reset the CMOS, but no luck.
It does not react at all.

Do you think it is solvable by flashing the CMOS again (if it is even possible) or do I have to purchase a new motherboard?

Answer:Satellite C660D-117 dead after Bios update

> Do you think it is solvable by flashing the CMOS again (if it is even possible) or do I have to purchase a new motherboard?

It?s difficult to say? in most cases it should be possible to bring the notebook back to life flashing the ROM module (where BIOS is stored) once again using an crisis disk.

I don?t know if this would help you but take a look into this thread:

Otherwise recommend asking an Toshiba service technician for a help

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - shift key causes the screen to go black

> I am disappointed to see the shift key (left) as well as the CTRL key causing the screen to go black intermittently when typing my blog...

What does this means exactly? Pressing SHIFT and CTRL button disable the display and you are not able to see anything on the monitor?
Is this right?

Did you check if this happens using an external USB keyboard too?
If not, I would assume that your keyboard malfunctions and needs to be replaced.

A friend of mine has had a issue with my keyboard. The cursor jumped around and some characters were displayed twice? this could be solved by BIOS update?I?m not sure if your notebook uses the latest BIOS but you could check this too.

So this morning after trying to power up my Toshiba Satellite C660/C660D I was met with a black screen.

The power lights both work and light up, the fans whirl when I power up but nothing ever comes up on the screen, I was wondering if anyone could help here?

It's less than 3 months old.

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D will not boot up (black screen)

To be honest I really don?t know how to help you.
Remove battery, leave notebook for a while and try to start notebook with AC power supply only. Try to do it several times with and without battery. If nothing helps there must be some hardware problem so I recommend you to contact Toshiba service and ask for help.

Warranty is valid so there is no reason to be worried about it.

In last few days I've been getting a blue screen of death with the error "whea_uncorrectable_error", I read something about updating BIOS because the error is probably caused by old version of BIOS. I did the update correctly but as soon as my laptop restarted, nothing was booting.

The fan and the keyboard are working but nothing else. I tried removing the RAM, removing the CMOS battery, pulling the main battery out and holding the power button, but nothing seems to be working.

Can you please help me and tell me how to recover my BIOS?

Answer:Satellite C660D won't boot - BIOS update failed

because the error is probably caused by old version of BIOS.

Old BIOS version does not cause BSOD… … the BSOD appeared during the last day but I guess the notebook worked properly in the past in connection with the old BIOS version... therefore the BIOS could not be the problem here…

However, fact is that the notebook is dead now… probably because the update process has been interrupted due to the BSOD…

From my point of few the EPROM should be re-flashed again using BIOS crisis disk…

Some people has already tried to fix such similar issue using 3rd party crisis disk (use forum search for crisis disk to find similar threads) but this did not work always…

Therefore I think that in most cases only the Toshiba ASP could be able to reflash the EMPRO using the original crisis disk

Have you tried to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor? You should test this and after one hour you can connect both devices again.

In worst case you need help from an authorized service provider. The technicians can try to reflash the ROM module.
Sorry, but I think in this case you can do nothing.

The HDMI, USB, VGA and ethernet ports on the one side of my laptop were not working at all.
I rang the Toshiba warranty number and was instructed to update the bios.

It restarted straight away and came to the Windows log in screen and I entered my password.
After that the screen is just black.

It has been like that for 45min.
How long should it take????????

The light that indicates hard drive activity flashed occasionaly.
How long should I wait and what should I do???

Answer:Bios update for Satellite Pro L750 still on black screen

I think 45min is too long time? I think there is something wrong.
Last time I updated the BIOS on my Tecra unit and this took 2-3min but definitely not longer.

Maybe you should power off the unit and should reboot it once again?.

Good luck

Hello all,
I just applied the BIOS update on my Satellite A300. After the update successful, the system does a reboot. Now when I try to power it up I get no display, I can hear the hear running, the CD Drive reading the DVD, led blinking.

The Toshiba ASP tolled me (phone call) the mainboard should be replaced after a unsuccessful bios update, but it's very expensive for me, :(
Please can you tell me if they are any way to fix it without mainboard replacement? The bios is a Insyde and according to the website the bios has bios [Recovery Technology|]. I guess that the ASP doesn't know that.

Please can you tell me how to start the recovery procedure if it's possible (key combination?),
Any help about fixing the laptop without mainboard replacement will be much appreciated.

Answer:Satellite A300 - After BIOS update black screen

I think the ASP is right and in worst case the mainboard must be exchanged.

You could try to remove the battery and AC/DC adaptor. Wait one hour and then connect the AC/DC adaptor and battery and try it again.

If it doesn?t work you should go to an ASP. Maybe a BIOS reset can solve the problem but this can only be done from an ASP.

This sounds like that during the BIOS update something went wrong. I think the ROM module must be reflashed or in worst case the mainboard must be exchanged.

Anyway, you should contact an ASP for help. The technicians can try to reflash the ROM module and fix this problem.
If you don?t know where is the nearest ASP you can search on the Toshiba website: => Support & Downloads => Find an authorized service provider

My Satellite C650 Windows 7 - won't turn on / boot up afte BIOS update.

Everything was working fine until Toshiba automatic update asked me to download and install new BIOS update which I did. At the same session Windows and McAfee requested updates. I accepted all. After all updates were installed, switched off. Next day when I switched on, I only see black screen. I tried F2, also F12 and recovery disk. Nothing happens!

Any recommendation?

Answer:Satellite C650 - Black screen after BIOS update

It seems that something went wrong during BIOS update and so you can?t start the computer anymore. But I don?t understand why you have done the BIOS update. If everything works properly you can forget this update. Furthermore if you do a BIOS update you shouldn?t run any other updates or programs this could affect the BIOS update.

Anyway, in such case you can do nothing and you need professional help. You must get in contact with an authorized service provider and the guys can help you to refresh the ROM module. On Toshiba website you can find a list of all ASPs: > Support & Downloads > Find an authorized service provider

Good luck! :)

I've updated my laptop to run windows 7 instead of vista a while ago and my laptop was running but the fan seemed to stop working and i found a BIOS update might fix this on this forum. The BIOS update stopped responding part way through and i had to close it. I tried running it again but it kept coming up with an error message. The laptop was running fine but once i turned it back on the next day i found it only loaded to a black screen. My laptop was out of warranty but i thought i'd send it off anyways hoping for a decent price but it came back with a 400 price tag for a replacement motherboard and fitting costs. Does anyone know if these kinds of problems can be repaired without full replacement needed?

Thanks in advanced to anyone who can help :)

Answer:Satellite L300 - BIOS update caused screen to go black

Try this:

Remove the battery and AC, and let it sit for an hour, then try booting again.
Open the Memory cover and remove the second RAM Module (or change the RAM size). This may reset the system and boot.

If that fails, the BIOS may have been corrupted, in which case you will need to send the laptop to an ASP for repair.

I have a Toshiba Satellite (Model no. A200; Part no. PSAE0C-AH308C), and installed Windows XP over a previously corrupted version of Vista (which had 4 partitions, which were corrected, erased, then reformatted into one solid block). Now, I installed all the proper drivers off of Toshiba Canada's support site...

Everything worked, but I wanted to see in Windows (since I just got this computer) if everything was up and running normally before I installed Ubuntu....Then I came to the flash BIOS update. The program is supported in two formats, one for Vista, and one for XP... the one for XP has a higher BIOS version at 5.20 and Vista carries the 1.80 BIOS revision... both of which are marked as being updated by the Toshiba website. I opted to download the later version of the BIOS.

Things went awry as soon as I unzipped the self extracting program. First it said it couldn't find a .dll file (even though it was clearly in there), then what appeared as though it started to flash the BIOS but didn't finish (this was simply what happened when I opened the program)... I think it got to clearing the ROM but didn't get any code in there... Windows had tried to close the program since it was not responding, and I tried to reopen the program... got the same .dll error, but this time the program screen was just gray...

Since this program doesn't flash the BIOS unless the user selects "Flash BIOS" button, I have reason to believe this was a program bug, or a combi... Read more

Answer:Satellite A200 (PSAE0C-AH308C) - After BIOS update black screen

Hello Muhammed

A long story about your notebook and the BIOS update process.

I think your case the best way would be if you go to an authorized service provider. In this case (after a failed BIOS update) you can do nothing. The notebook technicians can try to reflash the ROM-module where the BIOS is stored and in worst case the mainboard must be replaced. The point is that the BIOS chip is soldered on the mainboard and can?t be exchanged and so it?s necessary to exchange the complete mainboard.

About the different BIOS versions on the Toshiba website I must say that it?s depending on the OS that you use. The version 5.20 is for notebooks with XP and 1.80 for notebooks with Vista.

Anyway, go to an ASP and ask for help. I?m sure that the technicians will help you as fast as possible.

Good luck!

So yesterday I got a pop-up message from Toshiba to update my BIOS, so I clicked on it and it started updating but then it said "verification error".

So I closed it, cause I had to restart my computer after a previous update with another program and I thought of trying to update the BIOS after restarting.

But once it restarted it switched off, so I tried switching it back on but the screen is black, the lights are all on(power, batt etc) and the fan is working as well. I tried taking battery out and in again but still black screen.

Could someone please tell me what you think it could be and what I should do.

I also tried with an hdmi plug but it won't recognise it.

Thank you for your help

Answer:Satellite L755-S5349 - BIOS update failed - black screen

I think I?ve got bad news for you.
For me it looks like the BIOS update has failed?
Why? Who knows? maybe some applications which running in the background affected the BIOS update process.

I updated the BIOS on my notebook last evening?everything went smoothly. I downloaded firstly the BIOS package from the Toshiba page. Then unzipped the folder.
I closed all applications which were running like firewall, antivirus software etc?
Then I performed the BIOS update?

Anyway? in cases where BIOS update has failed, you need to get in contact with an local Toshiba ASP in order to fix this? in best case they need to update the ROM module again?

Good luck

- Remove battery and disconnect the AC adaptor
- wait several time about ~30-40min
- connect both parts and try to power up

If this will not help you then you will need to ask the ASP in your country for BIOS refalsh. It looks something went wrong during the update procedure.

in the beginning of December I bought the above notebook as second hand.

The fomer owner told me that after a Windows 10 update (original OS was Win 8) the Notebook shut down and for him it was not possible to get access neither to the operating system nor to the BIOS. He said he had tried it with all known key combinations.

I have to note, that the notebook came with a non-original HDD (a 320 GB Toshiba HDD) and a non-original power supply (Fujitsu AC Adapter with 4.22A/19V).

Back at home I tried myself several ways to get access to the BIOS (pressing F2, FN+F2, F8, F12 and futher more), but I have not been successful.
Connecting the notebook with a external display gave no signal.

I already thought that I got a complete defektive notebook, although the LED on the frontside were glowing, the battery was obviously charging and the cooling fan startet. The DVD drive also blinked after pressing the power button. Funnily enough the "Num Lock" light was glowing green and I was not able to eliminate it.

So frustrated I put the notebook aside.

At Christmas I startet a second try. Again I tried several key combinations (I think the last one was Window key + Power) and sudeenly the "Leading innovation" logo came and after that a message concerning "RTC".

Hi all,First post!  My Dad's Lenovo laptop goes to a black screen when starting up, so is unusable.I haven't seen it in the flesh yet but have started to research things for him and have found that 'black screen' shows up quite a lot for Windows 10 and Lenovo PCs! We were so impressed with my Dad's PC I've ended up with the same model myself:Lenovo YOGA 500 Convertible Laptop, Intel Core i7, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, 15.6" Touch Screen. Also labelled as: Yoga 500-15IBD Laptop (ideapad)  I see some people mentioning hardware failures and others device driver problems with the graphic card etc. but haven't read a definite cause/fix for this so far. I've just found this recent critical BIOS update for this PC which mentions the black screen problem:Software name: BDCN63WW Version 63[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue. haven't seen this mentioned in the forums? Has anyone else used this?If the PC always boots to a black screen I'll obviously have trouble installing this! I'm hoping that it will boot in Safe Mode or I'm going to have some trouble installing it?! I don't know whether to install the BIOS update on my own machine which is running fine - I think I'll wait until I see my Dad's laptop first which will be in a few weeks. Has anyone had any experience of this BIOS update or other comments on this?Thanks. &nb... Answer:Yoga 500 'BLACK SCREEN' - BIOS update: "[Important updates] Fix Win 10 lid close black screen issue"

I'm still wondering about this... I've just updated the Lenovo Companion after seeing it mentioned in another thread. It looks like this s/w is supposed to scan the PC and recommend Lenovo updates - critical and nice to have ones. Initially the Companion was showing a critical update for Lenovo SHAREit and a recommended one for my BIOS. It says I'm currently on BDCN28WW and offered something like v61 and not the 63 I mentioned in my first post? After letting it update SHAREit and re-scanning the BIOS update is no longer being offered and still shows me on v28 ??? I'm not sure I trust this 'Companion' app!My laptop seems to be running fine so I don't want to break it updating the BIOS if it's not required. For all I know my Dad's broken one may be broken because it upgraded?! Does anyone else use/trust the Companion app?And has anyone else seen it change it's mind on recommended BIOS updates? Thanks.

Hi everyone,

I am having an issue with my Toshiba notebook. My model is Satellite A210 - MS508C. I am out of warranty.

Originally, I was having problems turning on my computer. I would push the power button to turn on the computer. Usually, there is a Toshiba loading screen with a bar at the bottom showing the loading process. Right after, there is a Windows loading screen with another bar at the bottom showing the loading process. I was having problems at the Toshiba loading screen. It would load about 75% and then freeze. My computer would not turn on and I would have to manually press the power button to turn the computer off. Then, press the power button again after waiting a few minutes to try to turn the computer on again.

After having this problem for a week, I figured it was maybe because my computer is not as updated as it should be. So I went to the official Toshiba website to their updates page. I started to download the BIOS update.

In the middle of the installation, my computer shut down (turned off) by itself. There was no indication that the installation was complete. I also remembered reading that the BIOS update should restart automatically. My computer turned off itself all of a sudden and did not turn back on. After waiting a couple of minutes, I tried turning it on manually by pushing the power button. There was sound and the blue power button light below the touchpad was on. However, the screen was black and blank.

I've read a co... Read more

There is nothing you can do but send it in... because otherwise your system board is ruined.

In preparation for Win 10 key I updated the BIOS on an E520 using the Lenovo Service Bridge.  Os is Win 7 64-bit.  LSB showed old BIOS was backed up. Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12) New bios LENOVO 8HET44WW(1.26) Now bootup and windows start up are painfully slow.  Further there is a black screen in the middle of the wake up process. How can I undo the BIOS update to revert back to Old bios   LENOVO 8HET30WW(1.12)? Or can anything be tweaked to improve the bootup time?

I recently tried to update my bios (because i got a message from tempro telling my it needed updateing) which has left my laptop C660D effectively dead - blank screen on start up.

I am in the process of creating a crisis recovery disk and the guidance i have obtained from the net tells me I need to extract the .ROM file from the correct BIOS update for my laptop and add it onto the crisis recovery disk.

However when I unpack the Bios update for a Tosh c660D I see there are 2 folders, each with 2 .ROM files in them.

Folder DIS

BIOS.rom (2048KB)
EC.rom (128KB)

Folder UMA)

BIOS.rom (2048KB)
EC.rom (128KB)

The files with the same names in both folders look identifical to one another. but can anyone advise which is the correct ROM I should drop onto the Crisis Recovery Disk

Many thanks

From my point of view its no matter what BIOS.rom file you will take since both looks identical?

I have an Toshiba Satellite C660D-18W, and suddenly i got the message that i need to enter password when i started the computer, i tried to take out the bios battery, no luck, i try to find out how i can reset the bios, still no luck, can someone help me?

Answer:How to reset BIOS on Satellite C660D-18W?

It is not known to me that BIOS password can be set from alone and it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
Fact is that BIOS password can be removed by authorized personal only. As far as I know there are various methods for doing this but it cannot be discussed on public forum.

Contact nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help. They can do this for you.

I was just wondering if the web camera on the Satellite C660/C660D is colour or black and white?
If its colour, how do I change it to colour?

Answer:Satellite C660/C660D - Webcam colour or black and white?

Of course it?s color cam.
It?s a common webcam? Do you have just black/white webcam picture?
In your case I recommend checking the webcam software options.
Start the Camera Assistant software and in the Properties you could find the option called ?Backlight Compensation?. Check this option.
Furthermore in the ?Image? tab you will find some controls like: brightness, gamma, hue, saturation and sharpness. Play around with these settings.

Hi. Does anyone know how to reset the BIOS password for a Toshiba Satellite C660D 19X please? There are a number of very good YouTube videos for almost identical models, but they don't work on this one. The motherboard has changed a bit, and the reset jumpers don't seem to be in quite the same place, if they still exist. This video very nearly has the answer, but it's not quite right for the particular model variant I need:

I think it's very likely there is a similar answer to this problem - it just needs the right person to answer it. Thanks.

Answer:reset the BIOS password for a Toshiba Satellite C660D 19X

You want to reset it, or remove it? Once you enter the original password, there should be an option to do either, but I am not familiar with Toshiba's bios. But you will need the original password.

Hi Guys,

I have a laptop, it is a Toshiba Satellite C660D-15F
Part no : PSC0UE-02R00MFR

At startup it blocks on password (Bios), but the owner does not remember it.
I know there is 2 nodes on the motherboard to jumper to reset the BIOS.
Can anyone tell me what is the label of those nods or give me any solution to unlock the BIOS ?

Thank you very much

Answer:Re: Satellite C660D - how to reset BIOS password at start-up?

BIOS password is very important security feature and we cannot discuss about this on public forum. Why to protect my notebook when someone who steals it can post on Toshiba forum can ask how to remove my protection?

BIOS password must be removed by authorized Toshiba technicians after check if you are real owner.

I don't know the password.

Removing Motherboard Battery
Pressing the Left Shift as it boots
Removing battery, removing motherboard battery, unplugging AC and waiting 30 Mins
Removing HDD
Booting from CD I never get there but I do get "Enter Password"
Crying, begging, threatening torture, bribery.

Backdoor password attempts include... Toshiba, TOSHIBA, Phoenix, PHOENIX, CMOS, BIOS, cmos, bios

Any help or advice is always gratefully received.

Is there a jumper on the motherboard or a set of solders that can be shorted?

Someone must know how to do this? Anyone from Toshiba?

I would update the driver only if I would notice some problems with my notebook.
For example if WLan connection would not be stable; I would update the driver for Wlan card?

But I always follow this advice: never change a running system? you know?
OF course windows updates should be always done to close security leaks?

At least we know there should be some form of recovery possible using the <windows key> and <b key>.

Your BIOS update has two files in it and shortening them to four letters is simple but using a tool provided by one of those BIOS forums it gives five possible names for each of the two BIOS files included in the softpaq. The five names are the same for each of the two files which is what has me confused. HP doesn't give the manufacturer's name for your motherboard which makes it more difficult. I have a HP pavilion dv6-2020EV Note book.
I downloaded an update for Bios "sp50586.exe" from Hp site an extract it. after that a program (Insyde Flash V 3.80.00) Loaded and I pushed start button.
after some time I made mistake an pushed my notebook Power Button. The note book became shutdown and now I see only Black screen.

I performed some actions with HP online guide like pushing Power button for above 1 minute, removing Coin battery, Connecting notebook to another monitor and even removing Hard Disk. I get no reply from machine.

Now the power LED is on, and I can hear sound of DVD Rom when I put a Disc in it. But I can see only Black screen.
also I tried to load Recovery disc of the note book but it could not be loaded.

Would you please Help me. I have no solution. I lost my notebook.

Answer:BIOS FAIL dv6-2020ev:black screen after Bios update

How did HP end the service call-did they offer any further solutions?

Can you direct me to the support page for your model? I can only find it at HP India using Google cache--the actual website seems to be offline. [I want to double check that they were recommending the sp50586 for that model.]

Also, is there a longer model number on the tag on the bottom of the laptop? It might be useful for finding others who have experienced the problem. [There appears to be a BIOS recovery flash option that might work but it is important to have the right version of the BIOS to attempt it.] Since that update is so new there are not many people experiencing the same problems. Your laptop has an Intel processor?

That?s confusing and something is wrong here? Java version 20 is not available. Newest version of Java is version 6 and Update 27. You can download Java 6 Update 27 here:

Uninstalling the old version is not necessary, just start setup file and that?s it.

Then I have two questions:
1.Why you want to update your Java version?
2.Why you can Install the newest one? Do you get an error message?

Answer:Re: Satellite Pro A200 - Screen goes black after BIOS screen

You wrote that you can access the BIOS but have you checked if the HDD is recognized properly? Maybe the computer cannot boot because HDD isn?t recognized so you should check this.

If the HDD is recognized I would try a recovery installation from Toshiba recovery disk. It seems that Windows isn?t able to start and if you reinstall the whole system it should help to get rid of this. Just go in boot menu and select CD/DVD drive as boot device.

Check this!!!

Hi Totius,

That means after the Toshiba BIOS screen nothing happens anymore or have you tried updating the BIOS? Maybe you can explain this again a little bit more detailed.

The problem is in such cases you can?t do much because it?s hardware based problem.

You can try to remove the battery and AC/DC adapter for at least one hour. Then connect both devices again and try to start your notebook.

I have Satellite L40-14H (PSL48E) notebook. I have installed WindowsXP, it worked ok, except the digital keyboard was turned on permanently so I couldn't type a couple of symbols. Hi everyone,

I have exactly the same problem as reported here:

My portable is a Satellite L40-150 (Model PSL48E) It came with Vista and BIOS version 1.60

I updated the BIOS to version 5.50, because I wanted to install Windows XP. The BIOS update process went fine and the computer automatically restarted. Upon restarting, I entered the BIOS (pressing F2 key). I pressed F9 to load default settings and exited the BIOS, saving the changes.

The laptop restarted and the screen is now completely blank. Nothing appears in it.

I tried removing and then reinserting the RAM modules, but it didn't help.

So, I guess the only option is to return the laptop to a service center?

Why is Toshiba doing this? Are they doing this on purpose or what?

Answer:Re: Satellite L40 - Black screen after updating BIOS

>Why is Toshiba doing this?
Doing what?

Why you didn?t leave your notebook to finish the first restart and detect all hardware components properly? To set BIOS to defaults can be done anytime. Why you didn?t done this after WXP installation?
I am afraid you are tight about service. Contact them and explain what you have done.
Please let us know what the technicians told you.

The power button is lit up, and I'm unable to turn it off by holding the power button down. The fans are still not working, so I need to power it down by taking the battery out. I have tried about everything on the help forum and nothing seems to work. Help

Hi there dear Forum membersToday a sad thing happened.I downloaded the BIOS update for my Lenovo S10 - 4333- 28G.After the download finished, the app oppened, but a error messagepop'ed up that about shutting down all the other running programs.I was like: "well, sure ill just close my Firefox..." .... that was when the net-book froze. After 5-10min, I realized that my net-book just had a crash. So I did a reboot (hold down the Power button). When the it was about to boot, the screen was totally black.AS I know how to update BIOS and flash my Android phone I knew this was wrong. My question is: Is there a way to flash back the net-book?I've been googling around, and found a thread that said that a Hard BIOS reset was possible, but the thread was closed so I couldn't ask for further help there. If any one got a Guide for How To do the CMOS reset on the motherboard - or a way to flash it beside the Hard Reset - then please let me know.I miss my baby, the S10 just seem so.... life less...// Schou - Thx in advance

I bought a Satellite A100 - (model psaa8c-0fh00e) about 5 months ago. it was left on over night which is not uncommon and when i came back to use it about 15 hours later it was just a black screen. moved the touch screen and its keys and nothing happened. so i cold boot it and it turned off. i then turned it back on like normal and the notebook turns on but the screen is completely black. it's not even loading the normal Toshiba Bios screen.

Now my question: is if there is any way I can fix this, i am familar with computer and parts. I just don't get this one cause i've never had to reflash the bois or anything like that. I'm just not sure how to turn and i really don't wanna have to take it into a shop, any suggestions would be helpful.

thanks in advance.

Answer:Satellite A100 has a black screen and won't load into the Bios

Hi Conrad,

If your A100 powers on normally (HDD spinning, optical drive LED flickers, fans turn etc.) then I would suspect that your LCD or FL Inverter has failed. You can check this by connecting an external monitor to the notebook to see if that shows the normal display.

On the other hand if there is no activity at all from tour notebook when you power it on then I would imagine you have an internal hardware fault, possibly the main board, which will need to be checked by a Toshiba Authorised Service Partner since the unit will still be covered by the warranty if it is only 5 months old.

Hi all

I have not found any solution to my problem anywhere, so I am trying here.
I was going to update Bios on a Satellite L735-158.
I went to Toshiba?s site, downloaded and followed the instruction... but app. 15 seconds after double-clicking on the batch file... some kind of error sign came up.

The computer "locked" and then the screen died.
When I am switching on and off with the power button, I can clearly hear the computer working (though in a strange way), but the screen is dead.

Can anybody here help?!

Answer:Re: Satellite L735-158 - Screen black when updating BIOS

Obviously the EPROM module where the BIOS is stored has not been flashed properly.
Something went wrong during the BIOS update and the module is damage.
I guess only the update procedure using special BIOS crisis disk would help you to fix the issue.

But in most cases such procedure needs to be done by Toshiba ASP.

You could also search here in the forum for some similar threads about BIOS crisis disk.
Some users where able to solve this using some 3rd party disk but this did not work always.

So probably you last chance to get it fixed is the Toshiba ASP

Can anyone tell me whats happen and how can i resolve the situation please.

Answer:Black screen after updating BIOS on Satellite A200-12X

Hi there,

it sounds like the bios update "shot" your existing bios image. I am not sure how to resolve such a situation but I presume that you have to send your machine to a local authorized service partner for a hardware checkup. Maybe they can solve that problem with putting a new and working bios onto your machine.

Here, check this link out and find the nearest available servicepartner in your country which will help you with your problem:

good luck and nice weekend

First of all hi first post. I have 2 satellite laptops 1 C660 daughters crashed a while a go so she started using mine. Mine C665D now has broken screen can see some of screen. Decided to first try screen swap no go different connectors so swapped hardy rive from 665 to 660 and did clean install win7 pro. Was looking good but had no network driver. Not having another pc only iPads makes it a bit difficult to download driver so swapped Hardrive back download driver for 660 swapped again loaded driver all good working. Reading advice said to update all driver. Started at the top of Toshiba driver page and did bios update. Crash! During install of bios "confuser" shutdown and now will not boot. Push power button both led come on fan starts then just shuts off. Did a little research and it appears the bios flash was not a good option a pity it was on the driver download page, won't happen again. I have tried starting without battery f2 etc but still shuts down. Any help would be appreciated as I am defiantly out of my depth now. Both laptop currently in pieces but I am getting pretty good at the pull down put back together thing, tempted to bin then both but will see if you guys can help.

Answer:Updated BIOS - now black screen on Satellite C660

A bit of an update might help others?
It would appear I need to ref lash the bios. From what I have been reading process as follows.
1 make a bootable usb ( at this step now)
2 download bios. I downloaded wi rear to be able to extract the files. there are 4 files as follows.
1 bios.ROM 4,356 k.b
2 BiosCheck 1 k.b (this is a notepad read me file)
3 ec.ROM. 128 k.b
4 Setup 1389 k.b
Not exactly sure which file to copy over at a guess I would say 1 but maybe all needed?

3 remove hard drive and optical drive
4 remove battery insert bootable usb apparently it is imperative that you hold down the F key kept it in then plug ac power on continue to hold the F button let go after a while ( not sure how long 30 seconds I will try) let F button go. If you have a usb with a light if it comes on it is working, wait until it stop restart system and hopefully you can now get into the rest of the system.
I have got my old Acer laptop out of the Closet fresh installed win 7 was running really slow so spen most of day sorting, was services using 100% cpu, Windows update turned this of and now pretty good to hopefully make bootable usb and put on bios to flash Toshiba.
Fell free to add if I have missed something.

Hi everybody, I really need help on this one.
I've got a Satellite C805D-13G and it was working fine until I decided to install windows 7 on it. I've done an USB key with the OS and changed bios from UEFI to CSM to boot from it. Well, from that point the PC never booted up again. It powers up but it doesn't show nothing (even in the external vga monitor). RAM and HDD are fine.
Is there anyone who can help? i've seen a lot of similar cases on the internet, but I cannot find any solution (already tried to disconnect battery and hold down the power button for 60sec)
Thanks to everyone who will help me sorting this out.
PS Sorry for my english, i'm from italy

Answer:Satellite C805D-13G Black screen after switch bios to CSM

You just need to set the Boot Mode to CSM to install Win7.
If your USB doesnt boot up there may be a problem with it. Try creating the USB again using 'WinUSB Maker'

I bought a Toshiba Satellite C660D a month ago. Everything was going fine, until the FN key no longer displayed the OSD.
I looked on forums and there were various tips in relation to closely similar issues. I downloaded the Value added package again, I looked in the flash card settings and nothing is doing the trick. Could someone help me?

Any advice would be welcomed.

(ps, the functions work, but the display doesn't show anymore.)

Have you tried to restart flash cards?

I'm having an issue with flickering horinzontal lines randomly appearing on the screen for a random duration (during all kinds of situations, web browsing, video playback, high or low cpu usage, etc.). Very similar behavior can be seen on these videos:

The motherboard has been changed already to no avail.
Based on sources around the internet the current best guess for a cause is the advanced power management, which dinamically changes the core speeds (in CPU and/or GPU). Disabling these (turing off PowerPlay, setting Windows power management to maximum performance, etc.) doesn't help though.

The issue's been present for months. 1 single BSOD happened, possibly caused by a directx / display driver issue, not sure if there is a connection.

Still couldn't reproduce the issue (tried universal stress tests, cpu-memory-vga tests, etc.). The issue is very random.
System: Windows 7 prof. 64bit, latest drivers from toshiba website.

Any ideas?

Answer:Satellite C660D-16E - flickering horizontal lines on screen

I?ve checked this first video but I don?t see anything.

On this virtual way is not easy to discuss about such issues but what I want to know is follow:
Have you tried to connect external display and check if the same will happen again?

In my opinion such issues can be result of graphic card malfunction. To find out what the problem can be you need time and more testing. Obtain second HDD, put it in your notebook, install original Toshiba recovery image and test it several days with ?factory settings?.

If the same will happen again and again it must be hardware related issue.

What do you think about that?

I just formatted my yoga 2 pro, downloaded the drivers and ran the Bios Update. I followed the instruction on the read me, ran the .exe, clicked next/ok until the laptop restarted and if I'm not mistaken a red menu with a progress bar showed up. At that point I left and when I came back a few minutes later the laptop was turned on, the screen lighting was on but the display was black, the keyboard backlights were also turned on and everything else was off. The lights on/near the power button that signal if it's turned on and plugged to the AC are turned off. It's been like this for over 30 minutes now, no signs of progress. Has this happened to anyone else before? I'm not very keen on turning off or unplugging the laptop while flashing the BIOS, but at this point there's not much else I can do.

I ran Lenovo Support Center "critical update" on my P50 (Windows 10), which flashed an Intel management system and then ran a BIOS update. The update ran and restarted the machine, but now is showing only a black screen (LED glow, but no graphics) for over an hour. The machine has been docked and connected to power the whole time. The fan is running, and the Power and Esc lights are on steady (no visible blinking). Is it possible it is still updating and I should still not interrupt connected power??I tried the power button after the first hour but received a series of beeps (3+2, I believe) without any visible change. I can't access the laptop's serial number for direct Lenovo support without disconnecting it from the dock...any recommendations are welcome.

Hi all, I've had my Lenovo IdeaCentre K210 for awhile now. About 3 years, got it from a black Friday sale. About a year ago or so, a black screen with a flashing underscore would appear everytime I would restart my computer. I would have to shut it down manually and then turn it back on in order for it to work. I thought this wasn't a problem so I never did anything about it. But now, I recently bought a 10-port USB hub from Plugable and now everytime I turn on my computer, the black screen with a flashing underscore would come on. Like I said before, it only happened on restart but since installing the USB hub, it does it everytime I turn the computer on, which is annoyance now. So, I did my research online and of many things, it's probably something with my USB ports. On one website, it said I should update my BIOS which might or might not fix it. So that brings me to this forum. I found the BIOS flash update on this site but it only says its compatible for Windows XP/Vista. So my question is, will this update affect my system since I have Windows 7? I've searched everywhere to see if there is a Windows 7 BIOS update but to no avail. So is it OK to use this one? It's the 52KT54A update by the way. Also, do you think this solution will fix my black screen problem? What else should I do? I know for a fact that when I unplug everything except my keyboard, it starts up fine. So I know for a fact is something with the USB ports and I just don't know how to fi... Read more

Hi, I have Envy 700-327C with Windows 7. After I update the BIOS which I downloaded from HP site, my monitor is black and no light on the computer. Hi all, I've spent 3 days and countless hours trying to find the solution to a black screen after attempting to update my daughter's Acer Aspire 5742Z from the bios it had to the latest bios available on the site (1.30).  I ran the windows version from windows and I clicked thru the various dialogue windows appearing to be on its merry way.  At one point, the screen went black and after about a half hour it stayed that way so I unplugged it b/c it wasn't responding to the power button nor the ctrl-alt-delete.  I've tried using a usb stick formatted to both fat and fat32 containing the dos version of the bios files and the full contents from a windows 98 startup floppy disk i dusted off from retirement.  I also tried a cdrw and cdr only containing the bios files.  In all attempts, the hdd led and either the optical drive or usb stick led blinked a little before dying out and nothing more.  Please help!  Thanks. coqui

I'm afraid I did something stupid. Accidentally, I updated a one-version-older bios from HP website over the already-installed newest one, since that caused problem after the first reboot. Then it worked fine, but I thought it's better to start everything over...bad idea!
Now after reboot, I have a black screen the system seems (?!) to boot, disk is spinning, but after a few sec I don't get ahead. Not even to the bios menu !!! Scary...I hope I did not screw my motherboard!!!
So far I tried only one thing: unplug the powercord, take out the battery, and after a few minutes I put everything back, boot, but the same: no screen!
What sould I do now?

Answer:Problem after bios update - black screen

As you know now, updating the bios is not something to do casually and especially while out of the country or anywhere with unreliable power sources since the slightest interruption or fluctuation of power can fry your motherboard. Sorry. I guess you'll have to wait to return to US to fix this under warranty or maybe someone else has a better idea.

Laptop froze during bios update. Now black screen when turned on with sound of something running in computer and power light on. That?s bad mate?
This was the worst case which could appear wile BIOS update?.

There are no many things which you could try?
In your case the ASP should be contacted in order to check the machine and the ROM module where the BIOS is stored?

If you are lucky then only the ROM module must be flashed again and the notebook should start again? if worst case the motherboard must be replaced ?.

Hello everybody.

I have been having some issues with my Toshiba Satellite C855D-135 laptop. I had to change my internal hard drive, so I decided to install windows 7 on it (I used to have windows 8 but don't have the CD and I couldn't find the licence key sticker.),
So I went into the BIOS to switch it from UEFI to CSM, but something went wrong at that point and it seems to have corrupted the bios.
I think I have bricked it, but some things still work.

When I turn it on:
- the screen stays black (Yes, I have tried it on a different screen)
- the keyboard doesn't seem to be working (the leds don't turn on when I press caps lock)
- the fan works fine
- cd reader works fine
- When I plug in a USB stick, it flashes quickly once, so that seems to be working
- When I removed the memory bar, the computer did it's series of beeps

- I tried removing the battery, unplugging it and pressing on the power button for ages. (no luck)
- I have tried removing the CMOS battery to revert the bios to default. (no luck)
- I tried flashing the bios on a USB stick, until I realised the keyboard wasn't working and that it was all in vain.
- I tried putting the bios update on a CD, and it spun for a while, but nothing happened in the end. I tried putting these files on the CD:
- C8610.FD (in the Win8 folder)
- C610.FD (in the WIN7 folder... Read more

Answer:Satellite C855D-135 - Corrupt BIOS, black screen, keyboard is not working

Ok, so this weekend I tried replacing the memory, but that didn't seem to make any difference.

I tried flashing the BIOS from a CD again, coz it appears to try and read CDs when you insert them.
I tried renaming C8610.FD to C8610.bin and BIOS.bin, but nothing happened.
I also tried all of the different combinations above, one by one. (Yes, I am a very patient girl! lol)

I was wondering, is there a special way to put things on a CD for it to be bootable?

Hello everyone,

I have a two-year old Toshiba C850D-10W which came with Win7 Premium. After several months of flashing notices suggesting to upgrade to Win10 I decided to give it a go. I was dumb enough not to check whether my laptop would support such upgrade, and I discovered only too late that it wouldn't on the official website.

What happened is that during the installation process, about halfway through (maybe 43%) I got a message saying that the system would restart many times. The problem is, it never got beyond the stage of restarting, and the system is now in a loop whereby a fixed unblinking underscore appears on the upper left corner and stays there for about five seconds. Then the system restarts and the underscore shows up again, and so on forever, no Toshiba logos, no chance to select Safe Mode, nothing. I can enter the BIOS menu and I've tried to boot the system from the back-up DVDs I made when I bought the computer so I could get back to Windows 7 but it doesn't work, the system just doesn't recognise it. The HDD is fine, I've taken it out and opened it on another computer as if it were an external drive and all the files are still there but I can't do anything else.

Any help would much apprectiated, thanks a lot
