I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Whilst updating the BIOS the system froze at step 7 of replacing the BIOS code, needless to say the laptop will not boot as the BIOS is now corrupt.

I have the BIOS.BAK but need advice on how to restore the BIOS. I copied the BIOS.BAK to a usb stick and plugged this into the laptop and then powered on the system (I've tried holding down F, F2 and together). I can see that the usb stick flickers initially but clearly does not progress with the restore.

I hope someone might be able to advise how to use the BIOS.BAK file to restore the BIOS.

Hi
I wonder if someone can assist, the compter has bios win-1.90 issued feb 2012, looked today and they have issued new bios 1.70 dated 1/06/2012.

What gives there is no record of 1.90 version and I guess 1.70 is much earlier ??? and if one does a search on web (non Toshiba site) it shows toshiba 1.90 as latest.

Before anyone ask why do I need need Bios, some times have improvements

Thanks
Tony Miller

Answer:Re: Satellite C660/1J2 and new BIOS

I?ve checked Toshiba support page and you are right. Offered BIOS version is 1.70. I don?t know why lower version number is offered as latest BIOS update.

Anyway, check Toshiba page next days. Maybe newest version will be offered.
But let?s be realistic, if your notebook runs well you don?t need BIOS update. If you don?t have some serious problems don?t change anything.

I attempted to update the BIOS from 1.00 to 1.20 yesterday through WinPhlash64 and it froze halfway through the writing process.

I've read online that there is a crisis recovery mode and a Phoenix utility program that can help reflash the BIOS..but for different Satellite models (e.g. A350). I found the guide [here|http://forum.notebookreview.com/toshiba/469337-toshiba-satellite-a350-bios-recovery-phoenix.html].

Does anyone know if this will work and *why* Toshiba don't host the original 1.00 BIOS version on the product page for this particular model?

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Answer:Satellite C660 - BIOS Corrupt

Hello

I can?t say much about Crisis recovery tool for BIOS because everytime I did a BIOS update it worked properly so I never had a problem.

What I can say is be careful with such tools: You could destroy the whole ROM module and I believe nobody has tested this tool on C660 from Toshiba.

Such BIOS recovery can only be done from an authorized service provider because they have special tools from Toshiba I think so in your case I would get in contact with the guys to clarify the problem and they can help you go get rid of this.

Good luck! :)

Hi

I've been using my Satellite C660-1D7 for a year now, and recently I'm having a wireless connection problem with my laptop. I can find the network in my laptop, but it constantly loses connection. It's kinda annoying.

So I tried to update BIOS update, but every time, it showed up ' There is an error occured, please check below items. BIOS version above 200. battery capacity more than 10%. ac is attached.' Well, I've checked mine, and it's 'TOSHIBA 1.40, 2011/1/21'.

Can anyone please help me out?

Thanks,

Have you this problem with battery power supply only or the problem is there when notebook is connected to AC power supply too?

I have a strange problem with a Satellite C660-18C, and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.

This is a friend's laptop that crashed a little while ago. He appears to have tried to reinstall an operating system, although not using the recovery media, which he never made when the notebook was new. He has not managed to do this, so asked me to take a look.

The hard disk is still the original Toshiba disk that shipped with the laptop, although it has been removed and replaced. This was done to do some basic testing on the hard disk, which showed no errors.

If you boot the laptop from a USB stick with a Windows 7 Pro installation image, you get as far as choosing a partition to install Windows on to. It shows "Disk 0 Unallocated Space 232.9GB"

However, it reports "Windows cannot be installed to this disk. This computer's hardware may not support booting to this disk. Ensure the disk's controller is enabled in the computer's BIOS menu."

I have looked in the Bios and I can see no trace of the hard disk. For instance, if you look under "Boot", this list only shows, CD/DVD, FDD, LAN and USB.

It seems to make no difference whether the SATA mode is set to "AHCI" or "Compatibility"

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks

Answer:Satellite C660-18C HDD missing from BIOS

Usually good working HDD should be listed in BIOS (first BIOS page).
There you should see the HDD name and the size.

If first BIOS page does not provide any details about the HDD, then the HDD was not recognized by BIOS and in most cases this means that the HDD is faulty.

If you are 100% sure that this HDD isn?t faulty (for example it works in connection with another notebook), then an HDD controller malfunction could cause the problem?

But I guess it?s an HDD issue?

Hi all ...

I sat and would update the bios for my Toshiba Satellite C660-1TT (PSC1QE-01D006N5)

Sloopy as i was, i left the computer to get some coffee, *obviously one of my kids was there* and pressed some buttons. This resulted in the computer "froze" after a while i had to forced it to turn off.

Now the clock change back time and date every time I boot the computer and i can?t get wifi to work.
I tryed to reinstall the bios again but then get message that i already have the same or newer bios and installation terminated.

Someone who can tell if I can somehow trick the computer into thinking it is a newer version or mabye bring in the older again and then update?

Grateful for any help! Robert

(excuse my bad English)

Answer:Satellite C660-1TT - BIOS trouble

Hi

From my knowledge it?s not possible to downgrade the BIOS in windows mode because you will always get a notification that newer version is already installed.
From my knowledge the Toshiba ASP technician can downgrade the BIOS but only using the traditional (DOS) BIOS version.

But I would recommend testing this workaround.
Shut down the notebook. Remove the battery and disconnect the AC adaptor.
Now leave the notebook disconnected for a longer period of time? I think about 3-4 hours?
Then connect the battery and ac adaptor and access the BIOS pressing F2 while powering on the unit.
Here you should set the BIOS to default (F9) and save the changes.
Now boot the notebook and check how it would work.

Usually the date and time resets because the CMOS battery is empty. But I cannot imagine that this might be a problem here? however, you can charge the CMOS battery running the notebook on mains for 18-20 hours. During this period of time the notebook needs to be ON.

I have the same problem. Latest BIOS version for my notebook is 1.3 but on my is 1.4 installed?! Notebook is 10 days and I can?t work with it.

We have few C660 (PSC0LE) we bought tham on same day and they all have 1.3 and are working perfect. Only my is BIOS 1.4 version and it?s not good at all.

Please my question is how can I flash BIOS with 1.3?

Answer:Satellite C660 - How to downgrade the BIOS?

Hello

Why you have created an additional thread about BIOS? I mean this can be discussed in your other thread too.

Anyway: BIOS downgrade is not possible and can only be done from an authorized service provider in your country. On Toshiba website only the newest version is available so a downgrade is not possible.

Before running an BIOS update tool, you should close all running apps in the background and should disable firewalls and antivirus software too!

Furthermore the VAP (value added package) should be installed on your notebook.
The VAP is an Toshiba tool package which can be found on the Toshiba European driver page.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Changed something in BIOS

Hi costy,

I?m a little bit confused about your posting. What does it mean exactly? You cannot enter the BIOS but Windows start properly, right?

Well, usually you can enter the BIOS if you press F2 key after you turned on the computer. So you have to press only one key to enter the BIOS and not both. Press F2 key several times until you see the BIOS setup.

Hey.

I just bought a new Satellite C660 24 hours ago. I installed all of the updates and programs for the PC to run smoother, but i can't install the Bios 1.50. It gives me an error when I try to install it.
When i go to see the current bios version it say it's in 1.20.

How can this be fixed?

Cheers.

Answer:Satellite C660 - Can't install BIOS 1.50

Hey,

Why you want to update the BIOS? Do you have any problems with your new C660 notebook?
I mean BIOS update is always a little bit risky so I would only do the update if it?s really necessary, otherwise BIOS update is no important and you can forget it.

Just have fun with your new notebook and enjoy it! :)

So obviously tried firing it up again. Blank screen. LEDs fine. DVD drives spins fans working. And one beep where it detects ram. Tried various combination of keys to no avail. So called tosh support.

They quoted 187 if they have to reflash and 275 to replace motherboard.

Hello,
today I found out that somehow I had clocked my processor to just 1.3ghz. I googled that I have to install toshiba value added package. After successful installation my processor started working normally (max 2.8ghz).

Unfortunately it has caused massive overheating of my notebook. While I was downloading bios update(and surfing normal websites) temperature went up to 83?C! I'm just not doing anything it's going really high..(btw. I'm using cooling pad).

I found out that if I update bios(current version 1.5) it might solve/help(maybe) this problem. I downloaded both 1.7, 2.0 versions.

Version 1.7:
when I run it, it just throw an error:

---------------------------
Phoenix WinPhlash64
---------------------------
Failed to retrieve system BIOS information.
BCPSYS block signature was not found.
Error code: -100
---------------------------
OK
---------------------------

Couldn't find any solution for this..

Version 2.0
There is an error occured, please check below items.
BIOS version above 200. (I've got 1.5)
Battery capacity more than 10% (tested it with 8%)
AC is attached. (it wasn't attached)

Huh? I'm totally out. Computer is unworkable if I don't fix that overheating problem.(bios update)

Thanks for any help.

Hey everyone,

I use my Satellite C660 Notebook for some music production and I try to get my extern Presonus Audio Interface working. All is well so far except some occasional cracking noises in the AudioInterface. After fixing some things in Windows 7 that were recommended by tech support from Presonus these noises were still there.
So Tech support then gave me the following advice:

+"There are some power options that can be tweaked in your BIOS that may be causing the noise you are experiencing.+

+CPU Settings Section - Intel SpeedStep set to normal.+
+CPU Settings Section - Turbo Mode set to normal not turbo mode.+
+CPU Settings Section (if applicable) - Processor Operation Mode will have 3 settings, Normal, Fast, Extreme (??). Set it to 'Normal'+

+Power Settings: - C1E Support+
+Power Settings: - C3E Support (if it's there)+

+Save BIOS and restart.+

+Typically overclocking CPU's like the iSeries can cause the CPU power to fluctuate causing issues with noise on your audio devices, it is a new find and we are writing a FAQ that will be available on our knowledge base that will have a detailed description on the reasons why this occurs on over clocking CPU's.+

+Make sure any overclocking settings have been set to normal."+

*So for the first Time I entered BIOS only to find that none of these settings can be made on this Toshiba Satellite c660.*

Or can they somehow still be made? Are there tools, programs,...?

I hope someone can hel... Read more

Answer:Missing BIOS Settings Satellite C660

Hi

If the settings are not available in BIOS, you will not be able to change it or to appear it within the BIOS.

Mostly the Phoenix BIOS would be used by different manufacturers but the BIOS is always modified by manufacturers and configured for each notebook series.
Therefore particular settings are not always available in each BIOS.

I read in the presonus forum about crackling sound using dual core CPUs.
One guy could solve this using another USB port.

So maybe you should test all available USB ports.

Another option could be the usage of external USB hub connected to external power source?now quite sure if this would help to get rid of such noises but its worth a test.

Last but not least you could test this with connected and disconnected AC adapter

Hi all

I was updating BIOS on TOSHIBA SATELLITE C660-13R from windows 7 64 bits. Downloaded driver from toshiba web. Half way the installation laptop freezes. I have left it for 40 mins to run but it did not get back to normal state. As motherboard fan has started to move on high speed I decided to take battery out. In result when I power back my laptop I have 1 beep from the motherboard and black screen.

Can some one help me please ?

Answer:Satellite C660-13R - BIOS update issue

Obviously the BIOS update procedure has failed. Something went wrong during the update process and it looks like the EMRPOM module has not been flashed properly.
This is the reason why the notebook does not work anymore.

Possible solution?
Well, if EMPROM isn?t damage, it should be possible to re-flash the BIOS module once again using special BIOS version and BIOS crisis disk.
Usually the Toshiba authorized service provider in your country should be able to re-flash the module using such crisis disk.

I read also in this forum that some people managed to re-flash the EPROM module using some 3rd party crisis disk found somewhere in the internet? but this did not work always?
So probably the ASP will be your last resort?

However, use the forums advanced search option to find related threads about the BIOS crisis disk? could be interesting for you

Hi

Usually the BIOS update procedure is safety.
But some before executing an BIOS update, all applications and software like antivirus software, firewalls which run in the background should be closed.

However, as far as I know the BIOS flash ROM needs to be flashed/repaired by using an crisis disk?

Good day, fellow Toshiba notebook owners.

I have a little trouble upgrading my BIOS to a "newer" (according to Tempro) version.
I just installed the Tempro application, and it detected that my BIOS needs an upgrade, so I naturally downloaded the "new" BIOS. Everything went fine, but when I tried to install it, a message popped up in the install window:

"*The program will be closed!* There is an error occurred, please check below items. Bios version above 190. Battery capacity more than 10%. AC is attached."

No matter what I do, I get the same error, over and over again. I looked the problem up before I posted this thread, and other people encountered it, but, unlike my case, advices like "Close all background applications", "Charge your battery", or "Make sure the AC is attached" really helped them.

I tried closing everything, my battery is always fully charged, as I rarely disconnect the AC adapter, and, of course, the AC connection issue is not the cause, since it is almost always plugged in.

I checked my BIOS version in +msinfo32.exe+ and it is 1.90 already, but I remember upgrading it months ago (sooner than the release date of this last version), and if, hypothetically, I have the last version already installed, why doesn't Tempro acknowledge it and keeps alerting me over a non-existent issue?

Maybe there is something wrong with Tempro, but I just need to be sure before... Read more

Answer:Satellite C660 - 1C7: BIOS upgrade issue

Hi

Tempro notify you about new uploaded drivers or BIOS?
The Toshiba European driver page provides all the drivers and BIOS files and the latest BIOS version 1.90-win has been uploaded at 04.06.2012 and therefore you received this notification by Tempro software.

Who knows why they uploaded this file once again.. but fact is that your BIOS is up to date and therefore you cannot update the BIOS once again using the one and the same version.

Answer:Satellite C660-1TK - BIOS Update Go Wrong

To be honest you can be happy that your notebook works because many people have had bad luck after not successful BIOS update.

In my opinion you should not ?play? with BIOS updates. At the end you will damage BIOS update and your notebook will not start at all. Maybe you should contact Toshiba service provider and clarify this. Ask for help. They should do it for you. If something goes wrong it will not be your fault.

Be careful with this. It is just my opinion and advice for you. Don?t change well running system.

I don't know what you can do now but check please this thread - https://forum.toshiba.eu/showthread.php?54395

Following instructions there, maybe you will be able to fix the BIOS.

Hi there,

Trying to update one of my employees laptops with bios 1.50 (C660) and it is displaying an error message displaying 3 possible causes. Ac adapter not plugged in (it is) battery is less than 10% (it isnt) and BIOS is more up to date than version 1.50. When I tried the update the laptop was currently running 1.00. So I updated the bios to 1.30 with no problems but when trying to update to 1.50 it still displays the error.

Any ideas? Need to get the bios installed as it seems to fix the typing issues that the laptop has been suffering from.

Thanks

I have a Satellite C660, sub model PSC0LE.

The (CPU) fan constantly surges on and off every minute or so. It is loud, and extremely intrusive / annoying. This is occurs regardless of load / CPU temperature. I have seen references to this issue, and some people have suggested that a BIOS update fixes it.

I have updated my machine to the latest available version (1.40) but this has not fixed it.

I note that this submodel (PSC0LE) doesnt have a BIOS update as late as some of the other variants (there is a 1.8 version for some of the other C660 submodels) and I think the fan issue is resolved in that.

Does Toshiba have plans to fix this on the PSC0LE via a new BIOS, or is there any other way to stop this as it is really distracting.

TIA,
dan

Answer:Satellite C660 - Fan surging constantly- BIOS fix

Try please to reduce cooling fan speed changing advanced power options > Toshiba power saver > cooling method.

For normal usage I recommend you to use balanced power plan and set cooling method to lower level. It should reduce cooling fan activity.

Hey,

So I'm overhauling a C660-2JN, part # PSC1ME-01L00KEN, and having installed a clean Windows I got latest drivers for everything and went to check for BIOS updates.

If you visit the 2JN's page and go to the Driver section there is one BIOS listed: [v1.50-WIN|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_driver_details.jsp?service=UK&selCategory =2&selFamily=3&selSeries=313&selProduct=6019&selSh ortMod=3010&language=13&selOS=null&selType=null&ye arupload=&monthupload=&dayupload=&useDate=null&mod e=allMachines&search=&action=search&macId=&country =8&selectedLanguage=13&type=null&page=1&ID=80880&O SID=-1&driverLanguage=42] .
This is the BIOS that's already installed.

Now, the confusing bit is if I try to find updates via the ["Update your BIOS" page|http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/download_bios.jsp?service=UK&banner_id=BIOS_DOWNLO AD_BANNER] it displays two newer results for the C660 -- 1.70 and 2.00.

I say "for the C660" because the part number of this machine doesn't exist in the bottom drop-down box, so I'm unsure how wide of a search I'm really doing.

I've extracted all three packages and they all use different flashers and have ROMs of different sizes, so I'm guessing the newer ones are for different spec'd machines, but it'd be nice to know (and, hey, maybe list compatible part numbers for stuff l... Read more

Hello Jim

BIOS password is very important security feature so BIOS removal technique cannot be theme for public discussion.
Such information cannot be shared on public forums. I hope you understand what I mean.

As far as I know Toshiba uses several different techniques how to remove BIOS password and I depends on notebook model.
If BIOS password must be removed it can be done by Toshiba service provider. Contact nearest Toshiba ASP in your country, explain the situation and they will help you with this problem.

First of all hi first post. I have 2 satellite laptops 1 C660 daughters crashed a while a go so she started using mine. Mine C665D now has broken screen can see some of screen. Decided to first try screen swap no go different connectors so swapped hardy rive from 665 to 660 and did clean install win7 pro. Was looking good but had no network driver. Not having another pc only iPads makes it a bit difficult to download driver so swapped Hardrive back download driver for 660 swapped again loaded driver all good working. Reading advice said to update all driver. Started at the top of Toshiba driver page and did bios update. Crash! During install of bios "confuser" shutdown and now will not boot. Push power button both led come on fan starts then just shuts off. Did a little research and it appears the bios flash was not a good option a pity it was on the driver download page, won't happen again. I have tried starting without battery f2 etc but still shuts down. Any help would be appreciated as I am defiantly out of my depth now. Both laptop currently in pieces but I am getting pretty good at the pull down put back together thing, tempted to bin then both but will see if you guys can help.

cheers Blowen

Answer:Updated BIOS - now black screen on Satellite C660

A bit of an update might help others?
It would appear I need to ref lash the bios. From what I have been reading process as follows.
1 make a bootable usb ( at this step now)
2 download bios. I downloaded wi rear to be able to extract the files. there are 4 files as follows.
1 bios.ROM 4,356 k.b
2 BiosCheck 1 k.b (this is a notepad read me file)
3 ec.ROM. 128 k.b
4 Setup 1389 k.b
Not exactly sure which file to copy over at a guess I would say 1 but maybe all needed?

3 remove hard drive and optical drive
4 remove battery insert bootable usb apparently it is imperative that you hold down the F key kept it in then plug ac power on continue to hold the F button let go after a while ( not sure how long 30 seconds I will try) let F button go. If you have a usb with a light if it comes on it is working, wait until it stop restart system and hopefully you can now get into the rest of the system.
I have got my old Acer laptop out of the Closet fresh installed win 7 was running really slow so spen most of day sorting, was services using 100% cpu, Windows update turned this of and now pretty good to hopefully make bootable usb and put on bios to flash Toshiba.
Fell free to add if I have missed something.
Thanks

Bought a Satellite C660-22v on ebay which seems to work fine except none of the Tosh utilities are present.

I was going to reload the OS and downloaded the manual which say I need to set the BIOS to default. The previous owner has set the password on it and has told me what it is. What I want to know is, can I do the system restore without resetting the BIOS or how do I get the Tosh utilities?

Answer:Satellite C660 - missing utilities, BIOS not in default

To be honest I don?t understand what do you mean with these missing utilities. Fact is that this notebook was delivered with original preinstalled Win7 home premium. If you have recovery disc reinstall OS and start to use notebook with ?factory settings? that includes all Toshiba tools and utilities. If you want to install some of them additionally you can download them from http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Generally speaking you can do system restore without changing BIOS settings but now when you want to use notebook from other person I think best thing is to remove BIOS password, set BIOS to default settings, reinstall OS and start to use notebook with original ?factory settings?. Later you can configure notebook and change the settings.

Answer:Satellite C660-13r PSC0LE - BIOS update problem

Hi

The BIOS version should be mentioned in the BIOS settings.
Power up the unit, press F2 and check the version there.

Furthermore I recommend settings the BIOS back to default settings.
In BIOS settings you will need to press F9 to get default. Then save the changes and exit BIOS.
Reboot the unit and check how many processes are running in the OS background.

I recommend disabling some not essential processes in msconfig.
There you can go to StartUp tab and could uncheck not needed processes.

My sister asked me to update her laptop (Toshiba Satellite Pro C660-16N; Part number PSC0ME-01S00SEN) from Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) to Windows 8 (64-bit).
So I did.

Then I went to Toshiba's UK website to check if there were any drivers I needed to install for Windows 8. The only one was a BIOS update (to BIOS v1.70). I have no idea what the previous BIOS version number was.

So I run the update application within Windows 8. Phoenix Technologies WinPhlash starts and then halfway through the update, the whole thing freezes.

The trackpad wouldn't move the cursor or anything. I had no option but to unplug the laptop from the wall and remove the battery. The laptop is not under warranty.

Of course, now it won't turn on. It beeps once when I press the power button, but the system doesn't turn on. A couple of minutes later, it sounds one long beep then two short beeps. It then keeps repeating this "one long beep, two short beeps" sequence every couple of minutes.

I have Googled and read website after blog after forum post, but nothing works. The links to the software suggested on these websites/blogs/forums are usually dead, so I cannot try what they suggest.

The most common solution is the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Tool. I have managed to download v1.0.0.4 which is supposed to enable me to make a bootable USB key. The version of this tool that I have downloaded is meant to be for a Lenovo ThinkPad X200. I have the correct BIOS.rom for the Satelli... Read more

Dear all,

I have a strange problem with my keyboard for several weeks already. It performs strangely - lags all the time. In every program or Internet site (in the different Internet browsers) - characters (it doesn`t matter which one) would once appear and on the next time would simply not. Sometimes they just appear several times while I am typing. Sometimes simply nothing appears on the screen. Another test - pushing down one character for a long period of time would appear on the screen, but would stop for a fractions of the second and then would continue again visualizing on the screen. This is really annoying. You simply can not write. If I hold down a different character individully and slowly, I wouldn`t have any problems, but I can not write in this way.

That is why I decided to format my Windows OS today (XP PRO SP3) - no effect at all. No viruses. I tried from the WIndows services to turn them on and off one by one - no effect again.

After following these steps:

Workaround Procedure
1.Press then release the 'Fn' key
2.Press then release the 'N' key
3.Press then release the '1' key

However the C660 doesnt appear to be in the supported list, so you may need to go into the BIOS instead.

That?s really pity? it looks like the ROM module has not been flashed properly.
I think this was a problem related to the hardware since you had problems before updating the BIOS.
I think this affected the BIOS update procedure.

> As the warranty is void I will now buy a bios chip in china and I am now looking for the bios file.
Forget it mate?ROM module cannot be replaced? in most cases the ROM module needs to be flashed using an crisis disk?

Would recommend asking an Toshiba ASP for help and to reflash the BIOS using crisis disk.
This should not be very expensive?

I think several people have posted about this issue here on this forum so it is a great pity that you didn?t check this forum before you have made decision to update BIOS. If you have a bit time check other postings in Satellite C category.

Anyway, what I can say is that you can try to reduce cooling fan speed using cooling method option in advanced power settings.

This should reduce cooling fan speed and your notebook will work much quieter. Set it simply to ?battery mode? option.

Hi

BIOS update requires the VAP (value added package) and all security tools should be turned off.
Here is detailed instruction how to update the BIOS:

You can also check if new OS installation would fix this because this issue could be related to muddled operating system? you know? but firstly try to reinstall the VAP and be sure that you use the right BIOS.

Now you can choose Repair my Computer and then choose HDD recovery.
This would start a HDD recovery procedure which would reinstall the system? during the setup you can set anther admin password.

Of course there are some other methods but as far as I know this requires 3rd party software/tools or Win 7 DVD? so I think the HDD recovery is the fastest solution.

Hi therePosted details below in the Windows XP forum.Dear ReaderAs my old laptop Dell Inspiron 1501 - BIOS 2.6.3 was getting more frustrating, even with a larger hard drive (320Gb), it was showing it's age.I took the decision to install Windows 7 on what had been the XP pro partition on the original 80Gb drive. The partition was formatted via a Sharkoon USB external drive connector and Partition Magic 8.I was fairly underwhelmed with the Win 7 (64 bit) performance, though the install was pretty quick.I pointed the User Documents to the second partition D: using regedit.Programs installed:NOD32 from ESETWinRARLightroom 2.6Microsoft Live CamAdobe FlashSilverlightCamtasiaThen for the problems.During screen recording, the driver for the ATI card kept being recovered. Camtasia stopped recording.Whilst trying to type in to fill a form, the Space Bar kept acting as Enter and Backspace was acting as Alt + Left ArrowSo, I thought, there must be something strange on here, let's check with http://www.malwarebytes.org/mbam.php as I have the paid version. The quick scan detected three items:trojan.agenttrojan.backdoorsomething I couldn't read...because the computer automatically clicked yes and removed them, then restarted itself. It would not restart properly, and kept hanging at the Dell welcome screen with the status bar reaching 100% and nothing happening.I managed to progress to Win 7 by removing all power and restart with F2 to get to the boot options. Then I was unable to login - the w... Answer:Keys acting as if there is something else present. BIOS?

Some updates:I have reinstalled the BIOS from Dell 2.6.3 / Dec 2007 which is the last and the same as the one I had. Each time the machine starts it produces a motherbaord beep and you have to press a key to continue the sequence. When the Win 7 login screen appears, it (almost) immediately starts the login cycle, which can be ESC out of, but says the username / password was incorrect!I manage to get into the system (which I am using to type this on) and apart from the ENTER key not working, all seems to function. CTRL + M sometimes works, but not everywhere! Will investigate the key itself, but another development is more concerning.During the early hours (between 03:00 and 05:00) the machine fan comes on, drive clicks and it shuts down again. It might be it does this after the laptop is closed for a while, or it might be it is transmitting something I would prefer to keep private! I'll look into other scans here on Bleeping Computer and see what else I can do.A pen drive I used also became corrupted and was reformatted, so it is now testing as a ReadyBoost space.Bizarrely Win 7 (ultimate) has actually been a reasonable path compared to Vista (which I dropped and reverted to XP).Issues with graphics playing are possibly driver related as Dell haven't officially sanctioned the 1501 for Win 7, but it was 'built for Vista'.The other thing is the Win 7 was not a Dell supplied upgrade, but a full box copy as a gift.More updates after the scans.LL

Question: Satellite C660

My brother has a Satellite C660-1H6 laptop. Unfortunately his HDD went bad.
I installed a new HDD and reinstalled Windows 7 Home Premium, which was originally installed on the laptop.
Setup accepted his product key and installation went relatively smooth, only problem is that after installing the drivers, I cannot connect to wireless network.
Laptop uses an Atheros wireless card, model AR9285.
Things I tried, following forum suggestions:
-Allocate a MAC address instead of "Not present" to the wireless adapter.
-Changing various drivers, including the one from Toshiba page and some from the Atheros page.
-I installed ALL the drivers, I don't have any unknown device or exclamation mark in device manager
-Installed ConfigFree, Flash cards support utility, Value Added Package, Wireless LAN indicator (some users select that some of these are needed)
-I ran Windows troubleshooter
-I did a factory default reset in BIOS
-Although I did not change the antennas before, I also tested the wireless with the 2 antenna connectors replaced the other way on the wireless card.

Fn+F8 works, I can enable/disable the wireless. I can see a list of available networks, including mine. When is try to connect, it asks for password. My router is using WPA2-PSK authentication and AES encryption. I type the password, it tries to connect, but I get the following error message:
"Windows was unable to connect to XXX" (I replaced the SSID of my network with XXX)

Hi!

My model is Satellite C660-1LD .
I want to add 4 GB RAM to my laptop.

There is now 4GB RAM DDR3 *(1066MHZ)* on my laptop.
Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?

And what frequency my computer will work? (1066mhz or 1333mhz).
What better RAM to add( brand, frequency) you think?

Also the RAM I found is Unbuffered, what it means?

Thank you!

Answer:Satellite C660-1LD - I want to add 4 GB RAM

> Can I add, or is it better to add 4GB RAM DDR3 to the second slot with *(1333MHZ)*?
This depends on your chipset.
If your chipset supports 1333Mhz then the RAM will work with full performance, otherwise it would be clocked down to 1066Mhz.

Hello all,

Yesterday all of a sudden, the laptop screen went blank. Upon turning it on several times, the screen still doesn't turn on. By connecting the monitor to a external monitor via VGA (my TV), the TV does show up the screen, but has several flickering horizontal lines showing, thus obscuring part of the screen (http://i.imgur.com/83RO8xg.jpg - ignore the windows behind, I was testing the sound - and it works).

I have tried several solutions on the web (like removing the battery and AC cable and pressing the power button, and interchanging the RAM card in the slots), and not surprisingly, nothing worked as I think my problem is not similar. Windows 10 just boots to a blue screen with a sad face and a QR code (I don't even know...), while Linux Mint does boot and gives a message of "running without hardware acceleration". I couldn't get any diagnosis on Linux to check if it's a problem on the graphic card or the motherboard, so I am turning to these forums to check if anyone had any similar problem.

Thank you.

I have the very annoying problem of key lag on my laptop which is a satellite C660 1-f-1 .

I've had the laptop for around 3 months and have tried the keyboard settings on all settings to no avail. I paid ?350 for this laptop and I'm getting increasingly aggravated !

I've read that the problem has cropped up with other models and that removing and then replacing the battery helps.. but I can't keep doing that mid conversation or e-mail !

I keep reading about these update download bios but have no idea what that means . Could somebody please explain in a plain English non-tech speak style please ?? !!

Answer:Key lag on Satellite C660-1F1

Hi Helenuk1963

A BIOS update is something that makes the main brain of the laptop smarter but this does not 100% mean it will fix it the normal fix is to run a recovery of the unit via the HDD by pressing F8 non stop on startup and selecting repair your computer then login and select Toshiba HDD recovery but before you do this make sure you have backed up all your data and created recovery disks via the toshiba recovery media creator in the start menu.

if you do want to run a BIOS update best thing to do is call Toshiba direct who can walk you though it and at least if something goes wrong it will be covered.

Hello

At first I must say that your English is good and understandable.
So, back to your problem.

If ?Repair my computer? option is not available in ?Advanced boot options? HDD recovery installation (from recovery image saved on HDD) is not possible.
It can be done with recovery DVD only.

Have you created recovery DVD following Toshiba advice and instruction how to do this?

Since when you have noticed this audio issue?
Have you checked sound card status in device manager? Is sound card enabled properly?
Have you tried to test functionality using headphones or headset?

Answer:Satellite C660-28V - USB hub problem

Hi

I?ve checked specification for your notebook and as I can see your notebook was originally offered with Win7 64bit so I don't understand why you don't use this original version.
You could install original recovery image and just optimize it to your needs.

Ok you maybe want to have Ultimate version and your own OS installation should not be problem because all necessary drivers, tools and utilities you can download from Toshiba drivers download page - http://www.toshiba.eu/innovation/download_drivers_bios.jsp

Of course we don't know what have you installed and how it looks like when you open device manager. Are all hardware components installed and listed properly?

Anyway, what I can say is that all Win7 64bit drivers, tools and utilities are available and you should install all of them.
The right installation order is as follow:
Windows 7 64bit
TOSHIBA Assist
Intel Chipset SW Installation Utility
Intel Management Engine Interface
Intel Display Driver
Intel Rapid Storage Technology Driver
Realtek Audio Driver
TOSHIBA Supervisor Password Utility
TOSHIBA HW Setup Utility
TOSHIBA Flash Cards Support Utility

Realtek LAN Driver
Synaptics Touch Pad Driver

Untl now I didn?t make some experiments with Win8 but I think there should not be problem if you use Win7 drivers.

Create recovery DVD and make test with Win8. If you don?t like it or you will see that there are problems with drivers, tools or utilities installation you can install recovery image again using created recovery DVD.

I think you are the first one with Win8 and it will be nice if you can make short report about all this. It will be interesting to read your experience about it.

If you go to this page https://forum.toshiba.eu/forumdispla...llite-C-Series there is a link at the top to "post new thread", this will allow you to post your own threads.

Clearly your webcam has not been detected, is there any chance that the wires from the webcam are damaged? was the laptop screen replaced?

I tryied to plug in the cable with laptop runing but can't figure out how to set it up.

Any suggestions?

Thx.

Answer:Satellite C660-15R - How to connect TV

Hi MusicInMe,

If you have connected the cable to your notebook and TV, press FN+F5 key combination as mentioned in your user manual to switch between monitors. You can choose between internal monitor, external monitor or both (clone display).

But I would recommend choosing the correct TV input channel first before you press FN+F5 key combination that notebook can detect the external monitor properly.

Hi, my laptop, Toshiba Satellite C660-1RR, is experiencing terrible problems. First, the blue screen (BSOD) will appear, and then, the laptop either shuts down or restarts again and again. Then upon shutting down, it only opens after hours later. When it is switched on, it doesn't last for even 5 minutes.

All the drivers have been installed and re-installed but the same problem still exist.

Please help.

Answer:BSOD on Satellite C660-1RR

Hi

There are different reasons for BSOD errors.
The BSOD could appear due to serious software problems or hardware malfunction.

You can check easily if its software or hardware related problem.
Take your Toshiba Recovery disk and set the notebook back to factory settings.
In case this will not solve the BSOD problem, the issue is caused definitely by hardware problems.

Did you notice a higher internal temp?
I had a similar problem with my 6 year old notebook. Because of the dust, the internal memory modules could not be cooled down and this caused BSOD.
I had cleaned the cooling fans and removed the dust using compressed air spray.

This solved by BSOD problem for a while?

the story goes...
bought a c660 last october 2011 and it failed and was replaced in april 2012 this year.
it now won't boot into windows - it goes as far as the windows logo but after a period, shuts off and retries.
won't go in safe mode - it stops at the same place every time and does nothing until the power button is pressed.

questions -

hardware or software related?
will toshiba give a damn or will they say "out of warranty"?

in my mind toshiba should offer a replacement as a month out of warranty is just not good enough

Answer:Satellite C660 won't boot

On this virtual way it is not easy to say what is wrong there.
My advice: if you don?t have some important data saved on HDD set BIOS to default settings and install OS again using recovery DVD (I hope you have created it).

Please do this and check if Windows starts properly.

I cannot say anything about warranty. You must clarify this with Toshiba service provider.

Hello everybody.
I have a laptop (model in title) that is running into a strange issue. It has happened two days ago: I was trying to turn it on and while I were onto win7 login screen, it suddenly turn off. Apart that fact, that of course is not related to what I'm asking here, when I tried to turn it on again, a white-blinking-dash appears into top-left corner of the screen.

First thing I had in mind: no bootable HDD; basically an error into MBR o something like this?

My first try was to access recovery partition (by pressing F8) but nothing happens. So I've tried also with every possible F{1,2,3,...,12} key but without success. Strange, I've never formatted my laptop, toshiba didn't mount a recovery partition for that model?
Ok, nevermind, as I'm an IT guy and I'm quite skilled, my second try was to create a bootable USB stick with some tool (like partition manager, gparted and so on...) and to boot the utility from there just to check and fix errors (if there are).

With my big surprise, this laptop seems not to be able to boot from USB!

What I've tried:

- Create a stick either with MBR for BIOS and UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Create a stick either with GPT for UEFI (FAT32, NTFS)
- Switch BOOT order in BIOS
- Pressed F12 to select manually USB to boot
- Check for safe mode (that BIOS [1.40] seems not to have that possibility)
- Change to CMS (that BIOS seems not to have that possibility)

So I'm stuck here, wondering why this laptop can't make a normal boo... Read more
